Ethereal Early Morning Wedding Inspiration

Today’s agenda? Snuggle up and stay put with these pics by Annamarie Akins. That’s it, and that’s fine with me because we have enough beauty to last all day from this bridesmaid shoot. With dresses from Jenny Yoo and J.Crew and hair ideas that we’re pinning pronto thanks to Top Knot Studio, these pics are majorly boosting our VAULT – don’t miss Handspun Cinema’s film either! Tuesday just got a lot better.

From Annamarie Akins Photography… Is there anything more nostalgic or glamorous than getting ready with your closest family and friends on the best day of your life? We have always loved our dress-up games, spending time with sisters and champagne toasts – so what better way to begin your wedding day! With this shoot we wanted to bring to life the effortlessness of a day spent being pampered and showered in glamour, surrounded by romantic landscapes and friends.

Did we mention the marble? Swannanoa is the epitome of romance and history, with its abandoned mansion made entirely of marble, overgrown gardens and secret hallways, all nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains – swoon! The all-white background was the perfect setting for our champagne, white, and ivory hues. The floral wrist corsages delicately placed on the bridesmaids complemented the lace coverlet that graced the bride’s collarbone. We were in heaven.

Rustic + Romantic Mountain Wedding at Claxton Farm

I’ve got a bit of a photography crush on this talented lady, Perry Vaile, right here, and this North Carolina wedding only feeds the fire. Under the guidance of Asheville Event Co., these two said “I do” with a backdrop to take your breath away and when the rain started to fall, the dancing really took off. See this showstopper and more in our VAULT right this way!

From the Bride… My husband and I celebrated our wedding in Asheville, North Carolina as it was close to our family who were unable to travel, an attraction for family and friends who were traveling, and it’s simply beautiful. We wanted to keep things simple and allow the natural beauty of the area be the backdrop of our celebration. Claxton Farm was recommended by Asheville Event Co. (our planner) and as soon as we saw it, we knew it was perfect. We wanted our guests to be comfortable and Claxton, located in an Appalachian mountain valley with 360 degree views, was strikingly gorgeous while at the same time provided plenty of shelter from the frequent storms that roll through the mountains during the North Carolina summertime.

We were humbled to have friends and family travel from all over the world to celebrate with us. We wanted to honor their effort with good food and a great party.

There was no theme exactly, I just wanted to keep everything simple and elegant. We were able to add a couple of personal touches to the occasion. My husband and I are known to enjoy a little bourbon so I saved bourbon bottles and repurposed them into flower vases at the reception. I folded 1000 paper cranes for our wedding, which according to Japanese legend symbolize eternal good luck. Bless those family members who diligently detangled the strands of paper cranes after a mountain storm swept through the valley 30 minutes before the ceremony. Another special touch was that my father, sister and brother sang “Swept Away” by the Avett Brothers with a bluegrass band during our ceremony.

There were some surprises such as a couple of quick rainstorms during the evening, which gave the night a magical quality – and who doesn’t love to dance in the rain?

Perry Vaile Photography was one of the very first vendors we requested and we were fortunate to have her capture our day. I had spent some time perusing wedding photos and her film photography stood out with its elegance and dreamlike quality. It’s such a blessing to be able to remember the love and joy shared that night in her resplendent photos.

We were very impressed with the professionalism and talent of all of our vendors, especially Liz Tallent of Asheville Event Co. As the wedding weekend came upon us, we were able to hand off all of the details to her, and she allowed us focus on what was important, which was to spend time with our family and friends and enjoy the party. Our wedding was one of the best days of our lives, and we were fortunate to be surrounded by so many friends and family who really know how to have a good time.

Organic Something Blue Wedding Inspiration

If I were to re-do my Fourth of July wedding weekend, this is what I’d do. A day loaded with rich reds and something blues as far as the eye can see. It’s how you take a traditional red rose and give it a fresh, elegant spin, and how a blue cake can steal the show. Planned and designed by LVL Weddings & Events, I’m ready to pin every steal-worthy moment captured by Rachel Solomon in THE VAULT.

From Rachel SolomonInspired by the bride’s “something blue,” planner LVL Weddings & Events created an elegant, organic and romantic shoot, incorporating muted shades of navy and blues throughout the decor and color palette. From the bride’s shoes, to the groom’s navy tux, to the specialty linen napkins and tinted glassware, just the right touch of blue is sprinkled in to create rich wedding inspiration with depth and color. The Country Club at DC Ranch is the perfect setting for our European styling, complete with trailing vines, arches, and covered walkways. The darker hues of the bouquets and centerpieces add dimension.

Nautical Connecticut Yacht Club Wedding

Get ready, lovelies, because this seaside wedding is going to brighten this gray winter day. Then again, I may be a little bit biased—this affair was designed by SMP’s very own, Abby Capalbo. And with a dreamy dress from Everthine Bridal Boutique, yummy bites from Gourmet Galley and gorgeous photos from Ashley Caroline, this day is truly perfect. See it all in THE VAULT!

From The Bride…Steve and I met through a group of friends who played trivia each week at a local brew pub, and after a ski weekend in Vermont and a few helpful nudges from our friends, we began dating. We quickly realized that this relationship of ours wasn’t just about romance but that more importantly we were, quite simply, each other’s best friend. When Steve asked me to marry him in the same spot where we first talked about spending our lives together, I happily said yes.

Steve and I both agreed that we wanted a laid back, relaxed reception with an emphasis on great food and lots of fun things to do! We thought of so many different ideas to incorporate (I am a Style Me Pretty devotee and have been long before Steven and I met!) but when it came time to make major decisions our guiding idea was “did it feel like us?”

As an admitted over-Pinner and detail oriented gal, one of the most helpful things we did was invest in a design board with Abby Capalbo. I had a sense of how I wanted the design to go, but needed help editing all of the ideas. We shared as much of “us” with Abby as we could and she created a document that so perfectly captured what we were hoping to see on our big day. It made communicating our story and ideas a breeze when working with our talented vendors!

I have a long standing love affair with summer in New England, so we chose a venue that really reflected that; when Gourmet Galley sent us our menu proposal, we felt like they read our minds! Steve is the most wonderful, goofy guy and has a serious penchant for puns, so Jen of Jennifer’s Paper really allowed us to infuse plenty of fun into the paper goods throughout the day. Paper ended up being such a huge vehicle for highlighting our personalities (hello, 478,482 nautical puns!) and Jen was so patient and talented at working in every little detail for us. We’d also spent most of our relationship living in Middletown, CT, so it was a no-brainer for us to ask the Middletown cupcake queen, NoRa’s Cupcakes, to drive their truck down for the reception.

In keeping with the personalized theme, we elected to take on a few DIY projects for our big day. For our escort cards, we choose to create a mixed CD as a nod to our first date: he brought me flowers, I made him a mix that he still listens to! We built cornhole boards, repainted additional games to keep a cohesive look on the lawn, and made monkey fist knots for the tables. The monkey fists come with a funny story: I was getting overwhelmed with details and was stressed about the knots; Steve, being the amazing guy he is readily offered to make these for me. I was skeptical but he insisted he give it a try. Upon successful completion of his trial knot, he sent a photo of it to me, along with a rewritten, wedding-centric parody of the “Men of the Night’s Watch” vow from Game of Thrones. He was the self-proclaimed “Watcher of the Wedding.”

We will never forget our beautiful wedding day. Ashley Drago’s gorgeous floral garlands popped on the tables and when Marissa of Gourmet Galley led us into the room we couldn’t stop smiling at how perfectly everything came together! The day was such a happy blur and I’ll never forget dancing and catching glimpses of Steve dancing with my cousins, high school pals and family members running to the photo booth or cupcake truck, or our college friends twirling our grandmothers around the dance floor! Easily our favorite memory, aside from our vows, was sneaking off during dinner to spend some time alone at the edge of the lawn overlooking the water. We felt so blessed to be surrounded by our favorite people and all of the love they shared with us.

Even with a team of wonderful vendors and lots of wedding prettiness, everything pales in comparison to the marriage we are beginning. Steve is truly the kindest, funniest, most wonderful guy and while things are not always picture perfect, I feel so incredibly blessed to have found my best friend and teammate for life.

Classic St. Regis Monarch Beach Wedding

You know we don’t mess around when it comes to important things like The Bachelor. So when this wedding from Jasmine Star hit our inboxes and happened to include a bridesmaid we instantly recognized as Amanda from this season, it was the ultimate win-win. Of course, a day this glam doesn’t happen without a team like A Good AffairLittle Hill Floral DesignsJP ReynoldsElevated Pulse ProductionsWildflower Linens, and so many more. Head to The Vault and see why we can’t get enough. Pssst: we’re live tweeting tonight’s episode, join us here!

From Event Designer and Planner, Natalie Good… Kathryn and Corey are the ultimate fairytale couple. Both of them have the total package- looks, compassion, and huge hearts! We they contacted us, our planner Jayme Vainer was beyond thrilled to work with them to plan their very special day at St. Regis Monarch Beach.

I met with Kathryn and Corey to design their dream wedding day. From the moment Kathryn and Corey walked through the door I felt their wonderful energy. Two people who are so in love with life and so excited for their big day. I knew I wanted to bring a glam wedding to life with a boho twist that I felt expressed their inner hipster.

A color palette of ivory, crème brulee, rose gold, and a touch of blush set the tone for a gorgeous design. We brought in mirrored tables with tabletop candelabras, lush florals filled with garden roses, hydrangea, spray roses, and gold dusted eucalyptus, and bespoke glass votives. The sweetheart table was created with cascading floral garlands and tons of candlelight that lead down to the white dance floor with a custom gold monogram.

Their 250 person wedding was filled with so many friends and party animals I wanted to create a central 20 foot long bar with lounge furniture for all to hang out at throughout the evening. The tiny details from the blush menus to custom glass etched table numbers really pulled the entire design together. Guests found their place cards under a floral tree with hanging candles. Kathryn and Corey walked into the reception and said it was like a dream, we sure felt the same way!

Sweet Rustic Engagement Session at Bluefield Farm

Well isn’t this just the cutest duo ever? These New Yorkers escaped the city and headed to a family farm where they played with chickens and goats, all while wearing some perfectly on par ensembles (thanks to the styling talents of AOK Styling). Ashley Caroline captured it all and our VAULT is now full of this engagement sweetness to inspire us all – more this way!

From the Bride-to-be… For our engagement photos we knew we wanted to go somewhere outside of the city with lots of greenery while also picking somewhere meaningful to us. We picked my aunt and uncle’s farm, Bluefield Farm, a very special place to me where we have spent countless Thanksgivings with the whole family. The farm is located just a short drive outside of NYC and the beautiful flowers and stone walls surrounding the property were the perfect backdrop for our photos.

We wanted to keep our outfits casual and simple, like us. We decided on two different looks with help from Allie who picked out our outfits and brought our vision to life. Our first look was a bit more bohemian and dressed up. My dress was from Anthropologie and Logan wore a button down from J.Crew. Our second look was more casual with me in overalls and a crop top with No. 6 clogs while Logan wore jeans and a tee.

Modern Bohemian California Home Tour

We recently professed our love for Southwest inspired interiors and i think the universe heard our declarations because this California home landed in our laps and it is ripe with those south by west touches we love so much. But maybe even more importantly, it has a two tone tuxedo kitchen! Eek! And the whole thing is all airy and modern with a decidedly boho twist photographed by Daphne Mae. See the full tour in the VAULT.

From Lauren (the home owner)… By mixing modern pieces with bohemian elements, I aimed to create a comfortable yet inviting space for my family to call home. I incorporated bold patterns, and pops of color into a bright and airy space to achieve a design that is cool and clean while still reflecting my individual style.

Editor Picks: Favorite Drugstore Beauty Buys

As much as I love my beauty luxuries (hello, $60 face cream and $50 bronzer!), I can easily say that some of my most-loved products come from the shelves of my local drugstore. There are some true gems on those shelves my friends! And since we kind of love all things beauty around these parts, we couldn’t help but share our faves. Do you have any drugstore beauty addictions? Do tell!

Elizabeth

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel – I’m obsessed with this moisturizer! I find that when I wear face lotions that are thicker, my skin becomes bumping and irritated. With this water based gel, my skin is refreshed, smooth and feels amazing all day long! I love applying this day and night!

Oral-B Comfort Floss – As the daughter of a dentist, it’s not too far fetched to say I’m religious about flossing my teeth. And this one right here is soft and minty, making the nightly chore not that terrible at all.

Dove Body Wash – I grew up using Dove and to this day, I find the scent comforting and cleansing – and my skin always feels fab. Out of both tradition and love for the brand, I’ll be using Dove for years to come.

Erin

Essie Nail Polish – a little obsessed is an understatement. I don’t think I’ve ever left the drugstore without adding to my Essie collection

L’oréal Elnett Hairspray – My sister is a hair stylist so my bathroom cabinet is overflowing with great hair products but the one hairspray she swears by is Elnett. And she was right! It’s the only one I use

Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo – I always have this on hand for the twins but I also steal it to use for cleaning all my makeup brushes. It’s super gentle, smells great and costs pennies compared to most brush cleaners.

Melissa

Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara – My go-to daily mascara! I still prefer the brush over any expensive brand I’ve tried. To amp it up at night I sort of use this as a primer and layer over one of my fancier brands.

Bain de Soleil – I have naturally olive skin, so (thankfully) I rarely burn in the sun. However, my legs always tan last or barely at all. I use this stuff on my legs when I’m catching rays in the summertime to get that extra glow.

Biore Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips – Blackheads be gone! I don’t really get overly noticeable blackheads, but I do get oily around my nose area. I use these babies once a week to unclog those pores.

Stephanie

Not Your Mother’s Dry Shampoo – When you’re a new mom and time is scarce dry shampoo is a lifesaver. And a dry shampoo that works super fast without all the residue? Even better.

Big, Sexy Hair Volumizing Hairspray – When I go to the work of pulling out my curling iron, I want to know my style is going to stay in place all day. This hairspray does the trick, and even helps add a little volume.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick – I’m a little black dress and red lips kind of girl, and this lipstick in shade “Cherry Blossom” is my secret weapon. Swipe it on, add some gloss for shine, and it’s instant chic.

Michelle

Revlon Colorburst balm/stain (in smitten) – For a daytime look I love a good lip stain and this one from Revlon always wins a few compliments. It’s the perfect pink yet sheer enough for daytime and provides a layer of moisture.

Maybelline Line Stiletto Liquid Eyeliner – I blame Adele for my cat eye obsession and after years of hunting down the perfect liquid eyeliner I’ve finally found it. The felt tip helps with perfect application and once dried the liner stays out for the entire day.

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream – Sure it’s expensive when compared to your average lotion, but this drugstore buy is literally the best lotion out there. Trust me, my Irish white skin has tested it’s fair share of expensive creams and they all pale in comparison to this jar full of magic!

Gabrielle

Revlon Balm Stain – I feel naked without a little color on my lips, but I don’t always want to go for a super pigmented pop of bright coral or tomato red. The Revlon Balm Stain is the perfect about of color to give my lips that just-kissed color and liven up my face on the mornings I need it most.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser – I’m a bit of a beauty junkie, and one thing I can always justify spending money on? Quality skincare. Thankfully I don’t have to with Cetaphil’s Gentle Skin Cleanser. No matter how many luxury face washes I test out, Cetaphil’s gentle and moisturizing cleanser keeps me coming back.

Before You Sign the Venue Contract, Ask These Questions!

Choosing a venue was, without a doubt, the most stressful part of wedding planning for me and my now-husband. We looked all over and when we finally settled on a spot, there were never-ending questions and confusions for us to tackle. Very few newly engaged couples are used to confusing contracts and policies, so before you sign that precious paper yourself, make sure you cover all of these topics – in writing – so you can proceed with the planning feeling confident and excited about what’s ahead!

Date Availability:

What dates are available during the month(s) you’re interested in? Are there any discounts for non-Saturday weddings? Any discounts for brunch or early afternoon celebrations?

Guest Counts:

How many people can the venue accommodate? Any flexibility in different rooms/spaces or with different table layouts?

Rental Fees:

What is exactly included in the rental fee for the reception venue space? Are tables, linens, and other necessary rentals included? What are the choices, if any? How much time is included in the rental fee? If needed, can additional hours be added on? For how much?

Ceremony Space:

If you’re interested, is there a space for your ceremony, as well as the post-vow celebrations? Is there an additional fee?

Weather:

If your venue space is outside, what back-up plans are available if bad weather strikes? How are those decisions made?

Catering:

If food and beverage is provided by your venue, make sure to go over all options and pricing before any contracts are signed. Review situations for dealing with not reaching food and beverage minimums and more.

Alcohol:

Is your venue able to serve alcohol? Are there any restrictions?

Wedding Cake:

If food and beverage is provided by your venue, are you able to bring in a cake from an outside source if desired?

Decor + Design:

Are there any guidelines for your decorations? Are you able to move/remove furniture and lighting? Is open flame allowed for candles?

Vendor Access:

For the wedding celebration, when are your vendors able to access the property to begin their work? This is key for your florists, entertainment and more! Additionally, is any on-site storage available for your vendors if needed?

Vendor Options:

Are you limited to a preferred venue vendor list or can you work with any outside sources?

On-Site Team:

Is there an on-site coordinator? If so, what type of guidance and assistance is provided prior to and during your actual celebration? Does your venue provide set-up assistance on the day-of?

Miscellaneous Rentals:

Does the venue provide all weather dependent items – coat check, umbrellas, heating, fans/air conditioning?

Noise:

Are there any area noise ordinances that need to be respected? Does the venue provide any sound equipment? Does it provide extension cord and electrical needs?

Parking:

Is parking available for your guests? Is there a fee? Is there valet? Are there any shuttles, cabs or transportation provided and/or available if needed?

Restrooms:

What is the restroom situation on-site?

Handicap Accessibility:

Are all areas of the venue handicap accessible?

Security:

Is there any security available?

Insurance:

Does the venue have liability insurance? What is covered under their policy?

Deposit + Payment Schedule:

How much is the deposit and what is the payment schedule following? What are the cancellation policies and fees?

Additional Fees:

What taxes, service charges, cleaning fees, overtime, and gratuity is included in the contract?

Once you have all these items covered, request a proposal and review everything in writing before signing a contract! Make copies and have a second set of eyes on all paperwork to protect yourself! Hopefully you won’t have to ever deal with any of these worries, but it doesn’t hurt to be prepared!

Still venue hunting? Get inspired by these gorgeous spots!

Whimsical + Romantic Beaulieu Garden Wedding

Like bees to honey, Beaulieu Gardens invites romance. From the lush landscaping to the secret garden appeal, every twist and turn of this green oasis lends to the perfect celebration of Adam and Corinne. For it was here that they enlisted a talented team to serve up wedding day perfection (hi Paula LeDuc Fine Catering!) and with Jamie Grenough behind the lens, it’s easy to see why they had the best day ever in THE VAULT!

Whimsical

From the Bride… Adam proposed after 9 months in Halfmoon Bay at the Ritz Carlton just as the sun was beginning to set. A hidden photographer captured every special moment as Adam went down on his knee and asked for my hand in marriage. Afterwards, Adam surprised me with an intimate concert at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga. We listened to music all night long under a star-filled sky and amidst rows of breathtaking vineyards. It was the most magical evening!

Prior to our engagement, I had already fallen in love with the wedding pictures of Beaulieu Garden that I found on Style Me Pretty and Pinterest. But it wasn’t until my Husband and I experienced the breathtaking natural beauty of Beaulieu Garden on our first walk through, that we both knew for certain, that this was the venue where we would said “I Do”.

After securing the venue of our dreams, we set out as a team with a goal to find the best vendors who we felt could help us create a wedding that truly reflected who we are as a couple. After an arduous search, we finally selected our amazing team and my husband was by my side for every vendor phone call, linen and floral appointment. Though I must admit, our tasting at Paula LeDuc Fine Catering, was by far our most memorable and tasty vendor meeting.

In an effort to make our wedding day symbolic of who we are as a couple, many small and personalized details were incorporated into our special day. A locket containing a bridal photograph of Adam’s late mother was tied beautifully to my bouquet during the ceremony. Our parents performed a blessing of our wedding bands before we placed them on each other’s fingers. A remembrance table of those near and dear to us was included in both the ceremony and reception sites. Adam’s brother composed a personalized hand drawn map of our venue as we wanted to convey to our guests that family is an integral part of our lives. We felt that these personalized details added that special touch that we wanted our guests to experience on our wedding day.

Upon arriving at Beaulieu Garden Private Estate, guests were immediately able to experience the organic details that make this venue the perfect blend of elegance, romance and natural beauty. Each guest entered along a stunning tree lined driveway and then were greeted with their choice of raspberry lemonade or jasmine tea tangerineade as they took a stroll through the rose garden. All were offered parasols to provide shade from the June sun. The ceremony took place outside in the sunken garden overlooking beautifully manicured lawns, lush vineyards and fountains.

In collaboration with Paula LeDuc Fine Catering, our guests received excellent service, custom selected wine and cocktails, and no one went away hungry! After dinner and sunset photos, dessert and dancing commenced! The cake had four delicious white fondant tiers with triple pearl borders and was adorned by organic far reaching hints of greenery, soft blush garden roses, peonies and ranunculus. In addition to our cake, our guests were able to enjoy a selection of mini boston cream pie donut holes, seasonal sorbet cones and made to order coffee. Late night sliders and french fries were provided to guests prior to their departure.

Some of our favorite touches included the grooms vows being beautifully written on a handcrafted scroll, the large tuscan-style chalkboard written in beautiful calligraphy displaying the delicious menu, the gorgeous light spilling over the romantic chandeliers hanging over the reception tables, the BV tapestry reserve wine bottles for guest signatures and the personalized gift cards informing guests that a donation was made in their honor to the Marin Cancer Institute.

While the entire day was unforgettable for us, both my husband and I agreed that the most memorable moment was when we saw each other for the first time as I walked down the aisle with my parents. We both felt overcome by how much love and support surrounded us as we said our vows and became husband and wife. It was truly a very special day.

Romantic Jewel-Toned Winter Inspiration Session

It may be nearly February, but this pretty inspiration shoot from Agape House Studio is going to put you right back in the Christmas spirit. Gorgeous ruby reds and stunning shades of emerald green give every detail—from the lush flowers to the hot cocoa bar to the beautiful tablescape—a sense of rich romance and so much beauty. See it all in THE VAULT!

From Agape House StudioThis styled shoot incorporated deep winter tones to bring warmth to the exposed brick walls of the vintage building. Golds and bronzes were also used in abundance to contrast the deep berry tones. Fresh fruits were used as accents on the tables and in the floral arrangements. The cake was a holiday inspired red velvet naked cake with gold deer accent topper to tie into the deer mounts by the head table. The cake table was an antique sewing machine table provided by Vintage Indulgence. The cocktail tables ties were made of pure greenery bringing some of the outdoors inside.

Ethereal + Serene Garden Wedding Inspiration

The morning of my wedding I was a giant bundle of nerves and oh how I wish I’d seen this Shaw Events prior to my big day. It’s a reminder that we should all take time for ourselves, to sit back and enjoy the adventure, and to savor the sentiment of your special day. Simply put, it’s the perfect inspiration to carry with you as you journey down the aisle, Katie Nicolle captured it all to share in THE VAULT!

From Shaw EventsThis inspiration shoot was created to showcase the emotion of a wedding day that only the bride experiences. We wanted to capture the moments that she has to herself before she becomes a mrs. Often, this time is overlooked by most brides, because of busy schedules on a wedding day, and we agree that this can be some of the most important time to take. As an inspiration for bridal portraits, the bride is taking her quiet time in the garden to have tea and write in her journal, and think about the life changes that are going to happen as she walks down the aisle. She is going to marry the love of her life, and this exciting moment in a woman’s life deserves to be documented in both personal written feelings, and internal reflection.
