Printable Valentine’s Love Notes

I am kind of the worst when it comes to Valentine’s Day. I know, I know, I shouldn’t admit that – but it never fails, the sweet little heart-filled holiday shows up at my doorstep, and I have nothing to show for it. But not this year! No siree. Because thanks to The Lovely Drawer I don’t even have to leave my house to grab this year’s love note. And if that’s not a win, I don’t know what is.

FromThe Lovely DrawerHello hello! It’s about that time when I whip up some free printable Valentine’s treats, don’t you think? Well, that’s exactly what I’ve done with these mini brush lettered notecards and matching envelopes.

They’re perfect for writing sweet or slushy love notes to the object of your affection this Valentine’s day. Why not use them all and they can open them throughout a Valentine’s breakfast? Any excuse for a scrummy breakfast works for me as you may well notice from my instagram feed.

The great news is all you need is an A4 sheet of card and A4 paper. Simply download the free templates here and print the notecards onto card and the envelopes onto paper.

Cut around the notecards and envelope and then use a scalpel and a ruler to score the dashed line on the envelopes. Fold together and then secure with a little dot of double sided tape or glue. Hey presto your done!

Have fun sending a little bit of love someone’s way. The message on the back…well that’s up to you. xoxo, The Lovely Drawer

Coconut and Passion Fruit Cupcakes

You know what’s funny, I’ve never been a sweets person. Until this very post. Because these cupcakes from Fix Feast Flair? They kind of look insane. In the best possible way, of course. Filled with unexpected, yet ridiculously delicious flavors, this recipe will make anyone on team savory head right on over to team sweet.

From Fix Feast FlairIt’s my birthday and I can cupcake if I want to? Remember when you were younger and birthdays were pretty much the best thing ever? I used to count down the days till my birthday, while simultaneously counting the years. 13! 15! 18! 21! But now, hmm, I think I’d rather not count them anymore. Which isn’t to say I dread adding another year to my total, but rather, it’s just lost that luster. In fact, if I’m being honest, I’ve never really been a huge fan of my birthday. Sure, I’m grateful for all the well wishes and ok, ok, yes, I do get excited when a present or two come my way, but honestly, I don’t love being the center of any day, let alone my birthday. I’m way more excited about other people’s birthdays than my own. So today, let’s celebrate us! All of us. And let’s celebrate with two of my favorite flavors all rolled up into one delicious, compact cake!

Coconut and lilikoi (passion fruit) make my heart sing, and lately, I’ve been craving all things coconut. I blame it on the insanely dreamy coconut sorbet my mom and I shared at Mama’s Fish House last week (while we celebrated her birthday). I think I actually forgot for a minute how truly wonderful that tropical aroma can be (I know, that’s crazy talk). And when it’s paired with the sweet-tart flavors of lilikoi? Dreams. Last year, I baked up a vanilla bean butter cake with strawberry and lilikoi, using my neighbor’s lilikoi curd (it’s amazing, btw) and this year, my dad sent me back to LA with another jar. It was kismet. These cupcakes pretty much had to happen. Feel free to substitute lemon curd or any other curd you prefer, but if you can get your hands on a jar of lilikoi curd, use it!! To fill these cupcakes, I turned to my girl Courtney for an awesome cupcake coring method. I dressed them up with a coconut buttercream, and called it a day. Happy day to us!!

Ps – If you noticed that todays, photos look a little different, it’s because Moses is pretty darn amazing and gave me the best early birthday present a girl could ever dream of: a new camera! So excited to get to know my new Nikon D750. (Thank you, thank you, babe.) Tips and tricks would be much appreciated from any of you Nikon users and lovers out there! xo, Fix Feast Flair

Whimsical + Organic Redwood Grove Wedding

Towering redwood trees, twinkling string lights, a live bluegrass band, bohemian florals and the amazing L’Relyea Events transformed this Northern California private property into the perfect venue for this Bride and Groom’s woodland fairytale wedding. And thanks to Emily Scannell‘s beautiful photos, you can enjoy all the magic in The Vault!

From L’Relyea EventsAmongst towering redwood trees, twinkle lights intertwined, a live bluegrass band and whimsical floral details, this wedding was nothing short of a fairytale. Elise & David tied the knot at her families private estate, which was built out over the course of a year in preparations for this event. This remote & organic property immediately takes your breath away featuring some of the oldest and largest redwood trees in Northern California. With this space, less is more. We went very minimal on design elements and let the natural beauty of the property speak for itself. With wild, organic cascading florals throughout, we created a fairytale dream come true for Elise and David.

Classic Southern Wedding at the Chapel from “The Last Song”

I’m a sucker for a good rom-com—the cheesier, the better. And though this wedding ceremony took place in the same chapel where Nicholas Sparks’ “The Last Song” was filmed, there is nothing cheesy about this beautiful day. In a stunning backless Hayley Paige gown, this beautiful bride shined as she said “I do” to her handsome groom. Lucky for us,  Julie Paisley captured all the pretty to admire in The Vault!

From Julie PaisleyThere are some weddings that just stop you right in your tracks. Stunningly gorgeous details, beautiful color palette, the sweetest wedding venue right out of movie – “The Last Song” to be exact, and a bride that is just as sweet as she is beautiful. Robbie adores Kasie and this was a wedding that made my photographer heart so happy.

DIY (Mess-Free!) Kids Painted Valentine’s Day Cards

I don’t have babies quite yet, but when I do, this adorable DIY from Glitter, Inc. will be the first arts and crafts project I do with them. First, if it’s mess-free, I’m game. Second, when the result is this cute? It’s a must-try. And third, how can you beat a smile like this? An all-around crafting win in my book. Get the step-by-step below!

From Glitter, Inc.As a crafty mama, it’s hard not to want to try every arts and crafts project with my baby girl. My mom always made great craft projects with us as kids, and I just cannot wait. But when your little one is only 18-months old, and still learning how to use a spoon (without spilling chicken noodle soup all over her lap, of course), craft projects can feel a bit ambitious. Thankfully, our awesome sitter – who used to work at a preschool – mentioned an adorable, mess-free way to finger paint with your toddlers, and I loved the idea.

We had to try the craft project more than once – the first attempt was an epic fail: for the record, plain white paper does not withstand drowning in a ziploc bag filled with heaps of paint. Still, once we got ourselves a pack of cardstock that could hold up to our paint-filled bag, the project went off without a hitch. I’d call that a mess-free painting success. This really is a perfect “first art project” for toddlers and young kids.

So if you’re itching to make an adorable Valentine’s Day craft with your little ones (babies and toddlers included!), pull up a highchair and get painting!

Materials

Acrylic Paints
Cardstock Paper
Ziploc® Bags
Tape
Craft Glue
Scissors
Glitter Alphabet Stickers (We used gold glitter and silver glitter letters!)
Heart Doilies

instructions

step-1

Place one sheet of white card stock into a zip-top bag. (We used freezer-sized bags so that there was plenty of room for the card stock sheet and for Scarlett to squish around her paint.) Squirt various shades of paint into the bag and be sure to seal closed. Tape the bag to your child’s high chair tray or a table.

step-2

Let your little ones squish and smack away. (You can also experiment with running various objects over the bag – q-tips, toy cars, etc.) Carefully pull their masterpiece out of the bag and allow to dry fully.

step-3

Using your grown-ups-only scissors, cut out your heart shapes from the now-painted cardstock sheets. Decorate and make those adorable Valentine’s Day cards with glue (we glued our hearts to heart doilies for a classic look) and fun stickers.

And there you have it: one simple, mess-free, and adorable way to make valentines everyone will love. Happy crafting!

From Petal Floral DesignI create most of ours and bridal bouquets. it is hands-down my favorite element to a wedding day design. Each bouquet has a personality unique to itself. The morning of a wedding I arrive early, before anyone else is on site, coffee in hand, music turned up, I start designing.

I’ll begin with the bouquet recipe but I learned early on that each bouquet has a personality of its own and I should just let it express itself. I play with the movement of the foliage until the shape and form come into their own. This is always an entrancing process.

This bouquet felt fresh and fun because of the variety that our client Lindsey brought to each stage of her wedding design plan. The bridal bouquet felt less like a repeat design and more like the perfect fit for its moment, complementing the diversity in the ceremony, cocktail and reception flowers.

#SMPWedding101 – Unexpected Elements Guests Love

We plan for every single essential and wedding must-do but what about when Mother Nature decides to arrive with a storm? Or how about the fear of dehydrated guests? Planning for these little details is what Katie Dunn of Events By La Fete does and she’s gathered up some of her favorite unexpected elements that are guaranteed to make your guests fall even more in love with your wedding celebration.

1. Sweat Proof:

Mother nature can wreak havoc on an otherwise perfectly planned day. To keep your guests from overheating on a super hot day, hand out iced lavender towels as guests enter your ceremony space or late night on the sweaty dance floor!

2. Overhead Protection:

Umbrellas in your wedding colors are always useful if rain is in the forecast OR if its a particularly hot day they can shield guests from the sun. In North Carolina a really hot day also means a good chance for a sprinkle or two, so these umbrellas can serve double duty.

3. Liquid Love:

Don’t forget to have something on hand for your guests to drink before the ceremony begins. Spa water is always a nice addition, especially if guests have been traveling.

4. Welcoming Committee:

Seasonal and local welcome baskets are always much appreciated as guests check into their hotel. If you are getting married in the fall, why not have seasonal pumpkin spice cookies and packets of hot cider. For the spring and summer, fresh fruit is a nice (and healthy) addition! Here in North Carolina, we have a plethora of local goodies that we like to include in welcome bags to give out of state guests a taste of local flavor, including: Krispy Kreme donuts, Southern Season peanuts and Cheerwine!

5. Bathroom Break:

Thoughtful bathroom baskets are a must, especially in the female bathroom! Don’t forget things like phone chargers to include for the on-the-go guest that didn’t have time to recharge before they arrived. Staples should include lip gloss, mints, shout wipes and hair ties!

6. Stylish Signage:

You can never have too many signs! Signs at the food stations, signs at the bar, signs to indicate the timeline of the evening, a sign for the gift card table and cake table, just to name a few. Remember to include a list of ingredients on any food related table so guests with a particular food allergy can be informed.

Napa Valley Estate Wedding at Beaulieu Garden

For me, “Napa Valley” and “incredible al fresco weddings” are pretty much one and the same. And this dreamy summer lovefest planned by Rosemary Events and designed by Nicole Sillapere only further proves my point. Photographed by Samuel Lippke Studios, it’s got all the elements for a storybook day – Vera Wang gown and five-tier creation by Sweet On Cake included. Go get lost in The Vault for a weekend that’s officially off to a perfect start.

From Rosemary EventsJust one day of venue scouting and Brittany & Justin fell head over heels for the beautiful Beaulieu Gardens Estate in Napa Valley. It was the perfect location for their fabulous and glowy evening under the stars.

Joined by 150 friends and family, the couple exchanged vows on a gorgeous summer day under a Chuppah covered with Amaranthus (Brittany’s favorite) in the beautiful sunken garden at Beaulieu Gardens. Guests were greeted with Blackberry Lemonade and Minted Iced Tea then seated in rustic wooden chairs under linen covered cabanas shading them from the July sun.

Justin looked handsome in a classic black tuxedo and began the procession walking in with his Mom. Bridesmaids wore dresses by Love Shack Fancy in complementing fabrics and carried bouquets of peach garden roses with raspberries and thistle. They walked in, accompanied by Justin’s groomsmen, to “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles. Brittany looked stunning in her Vera Wang gown and carried a beautiful bouquet of white garden roses and Amaranthus. Both her Mom and Dad accompanied her down the aisle to an instrumental version of the song from her favorite childhood movie (the one she used to play over and over) “If We Hold on Together”.

Most important to Brittany and Justin was that the ceremony incorporated all the special religious and family traditions representing their respective backgrounds. They worked together with Rabbi Brian and Pastor Larry who created one of the most moving and special ceremonies I have had the pleasure of witnessing. It appropriately ended as the couple walked out through a shower of rose petals to the instrumental version of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy,” by performed by Ever Music Group.

Guests mingled after ceremony enjoying cocktails and delicious bites from Paula Le Dec Fine Catering and jazz by Ever Music Group. When it came time for dinner, they collected seating cards from wooden shutters placed along the beautiful vine covered path leading to the dining arbor.

The dining tables were a magical backdrop for the extraordinary feast prepared by Paula Le Duc Fine Catering. A continuous golden ribbon stretched the length of each of the long tables and wove through each place setting. Casa de Perrin chargers of Italian glass and 24K set each place, then were finished with a gold flatware, gold napkin, a mix of crystal and Riedel glassware, menus by Tiny Pine Press, a pair of individual crystal salt & pepper cellars for each guest and a golden ribbon monogrammed with each guest’s name. Footed bowls held stunning arrangements of yellow and creme garden roses accented with berries and thistle, spilled with amaranthus. These gorgeous arrangements lined the tables and were accented with smaller arrangements each displaying single ingredients of the larger arrangement and bowls of floating candles. The arbor was twinkling with beautiful gold chandeliers. The pool was aglow with white globes of varying sizes.

Guests ate an amazing Salad of Peaches and Arugula, Salmon on a Cedar Plank served w/ Farro and main course of Bavette Steak. Laughter and toasting followed, Brittany and Justin cut their cake and took the dance floor for a romantic first dance to “Shining Star”. Ever Music Group appeared for a lively Hora dance and then a friend of Justin’s, DJ Chris Fox from Boutique DJs, spun their favorites and kept the dance floor hopping.

It was a magical departure as guests walked through a sea of bubbles and were offered Strawberry Ice Cream Sandwiches as a sweet finish to the party but the fun continued at an after party at the nearby Reddwood restaurant.

The evening was absolutely magical and glowing. What was so incredibly wonderful about Brittany and Justin (and Brittany’s wonderful parents) was the effort they took to make sure that each and every guest felt special and taken care of. The mood was infectious. There was so much love in the air.

1/3 cup mixed fruit: we like the mix of raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries
1 Tsp orange zest, we like using blood orange or cara cara oranges (optional)- its just gives a fresh citrus note
1/3 cup sugar: we like to use organic coconut sugar

For the Cocktail:

1 bottle of Brut, we use One Hope Wine’s Brut

Garnish:

loose edible flowers in pretty pink and red hues

Instructions:

1. In a small saucepan, bring the mixed fruits + orange zest, water, and sugar to a boil. Turn to low and let simmer for 10 minutes. Strain mixture and let syrup cool.

2. Once cooled, pour about 2 tablespoons of the syrup in each glass. Top with champagne and garnish with flowers.

Couer La Creme

Ingredients:

12 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
1 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
2 1/2 cups cold heavy cream
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon grated lemon zest
Seeds scraped from 1 vanilla bean

Instructions:

1. Place the cream cheese and confectioners’ sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and beat on high speed for 2 minutes. Scrape down the beater and bowl with a rubber spatula and change the beater for the whisk attachment.

2. With the mixer on low speed, add the heavy cream, vanilla, lemon zest, and vanilla bean seeds and beat on high speed until the mixture is very thick, like whipped cream.

3. Line a 7-inch sieve with cheesecloth or paper towels so the ends drape over the sides and suspend it over a bowl, making sure that there is space between the bottom of the sieve and the bottom of the bowl for the liquid to drain. Pour the cream mixture into the cheesecloth, fold the ends over the top, and refrigerate overnight.

4. To serve, discard the liquid, unmold the cream onto a plate, and drizzle Raspberry and Grand Marnier Sauce around the base.

Luxurious Parisian Wedding Inspiration

I struggled to narrow down the adjectives to describe this shoot; it’s glam, yet elegant, ethereal yet simply romantic and inviting. Either way, it’s what we call a winner. Captured at The Belle Arte Workshop hosted by event planner Cynthia Martyn Events in Paris by Katie Stoops,  these pics have us wishing upon our lucky stars for an invite (from Seniman Calligraphy, The Wise Creative or Written Word Calligraphy perhaps?) to a French fete as fabulous as this. Just a little forewarning though: the rest of your Friday will be spent in our Vault right here.

From Katie Stoops Photography… This is a styled shoot that came out of The Belle Arte Workshop. The Belle Arte Workshop is a luxury immersive educational retreat for professional wedding planners, stylists, photographers and related creatives. The workshop is a curated and collaborative experience focused on the world of fine art weddings. The first edition was hosted in Paris, France during November 2015 and plans for a second installment are underway for Fall 2016.

This year Kasey and I decided to host a girls afternoon soiree for some of our favorite girlfriends complete with a gorgeous cheese board, all the flowers you could possibly imagine, polaroid cameras, chick-flick movies and Valentine’s Day M&M cookies! It was perfection and a great way to kick of Valentine’s Day week! In fact, we even want to re-create it for Valentine’s Day so we can avoid heading out to restaurants and dealing with an onslaught of people! That seems reasonable, right?
