This Online Editor Planned the Ultimate Offline Celebration

Most Brides and Grooms plan an after party to keep the celebration going all night. But if you ask me, what this Bride (an editor at Real Simple) and Groom chose to do is so much more fun! After their New York City-inspired I Dos (apple escort cards and a Momofuku Milk Bar cake), they headed to the adjacent bowling alley, where the party continued, Jenny Packham wedding dress and all. See all the fun from Sarah Tew Photography and Crown Street Productions in The Vault!

From The Bride…I met John in a bar while we were both journalism graduate students at Northwestern University. We were friends for a few months, but we didn’t start dating until two days before I moved to London for an internship. We spent that summer exchanging emails, and he finally came to visit me over Labor Day. That kicked off two years of long distance dating—I moved to New York City to pursue a career in journalism, and he stayed in Chicago to work for a start-up that had formed out of his graduate school work. Finally, in September 2011, John moved to NYC.

We both love the city— it’s where we live and work, and it’s the first city we lived in together. It’s where we cemented our relationship and where we got engaged in November 2014, on a bridge in Central Park that we love. We knew even before we got engaged that we wanted to celebrate our wedding in NYC. I felt strongly about choosing a venue that showcased the city, and I fell in love with Current at Chelsea Piers when it was still just a construction site. I loved how it juxtaposed the natural beauty of the Hudson River with the sparkling lights of the city, plus it promised a sleek, modern design with a showstopper of a ceiling. It felt like our favorite parts of the city mashed together, and, as West Siders, the idea of having a wedding on the Hudson River was especially appealing.

Visiting Current in the months before our wedding and watching it morph from a construction site to a venue made it feel like our project. I wanted the space to look both lush and urban. The first element I knew I wanted was a floating Chuppah, with candles and flowers (which Atlas Floral Decorators brought from my imagination to life). I’m Jewish and John is Catholic, so this modern take on the traditional felt like just the right centerpiece for our ceremony.

While the big picture of planning was, of course, important, I really wanted the small details to bring everything together. A few of my favorites: We used apples as escort cards, with paper “leaves” pinned to the top (a nod to the fall season and, of course, the Big Apple). We both love playing games, so we used Jenga pieces as a guest book, asking people sign their names and include their best advice or a memory (we’ve loved playing our custom game in the months after the wedding). And as a journalist, paper details are extremely important to me, so I worked with a designer on a custom, graphical program and a playful menu for the tables.

Rather than having one big centerpiece on the tables, we used several flower vessels, with lots of candles, for visual interest and different points of entry for the eye. I tried to keep the focus on rich, fall colors, with touches of metallic silver. Abigail Kirsch is known for having lots of food, and they did not disappoint. From the inventive appetizers (mac and cheese cupcakes! pumpkin soup shooters!) all the way to the pizza and pretzel cart on departure, our guests left stuffed. We also love visiting Momofuku Milk Bar on the Upper West Side, so choosing their apple pie wedding cake was one of our easiest decisions.

On the day of the wedding, we took photos at The Highline—one more great example of the natural meeting the modern. Our mutual friend, Angela, became ordained for the occasion—she brought us together more than six years ago in graduate school, so it only felt appropriate that she bring us together in this official way. Everyone warned me that the ceremony would be a blur, but for me it was one of the clearest memories from the day—we delivered our own vows and we each had one of our siblings give a reading, which was especially meaningful. Afterward, we danced all night to Element Music’s Radio Underground—my family and friends are big dancers, so finding the right music was a must. And, because we weren’t ready for the party to end, we finished the night by bowling (yes, in my wedding dress) at Bowlmor in Chelsea Piers.

The One Cocktail Every Mommy Needs

I know for a fact there were plenty of things I did to make my mama want to pull her hair out over the years, including getting in cars with boys. Hence why she’d indulge in an extra Kahlua Sombrero on those days. If only she would have known about this concoction from The Effortless Chic and Kara Elise! It’s next level latte goodness that will cure all those Mom-moments you just. can’t. anymore. Don’t Amanda Gallant‘s shots make you want to grab one off that tray? Get the recipe below!

Gin + Lavender Latte
prep time
cook time
total time
Serves 0Ingredients
  • 4 shots of espresso (we used the illy medium roast capsules)
  • 2 cups almond milk
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 tbsp. culinary lavender (plus more for garnish)
  • 4 oz. gin
  • Cinnamon or nutmeg for dusting (optional)
Instructions
  1. Over medium heat combine water and sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and add lavender. Simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and allow to cool for 15-20. Pour into a bottle or jar. This step can be completed up to 5 days in advance and you can use this lavender simple syrup in all kinds of other baked goods or on top of pancakes or waffles! Yum!
  2. Using your espresso maker pull two shots for each glass, add 1 tablespoon of lavender simple syrup, 2 ounces of gin, and fill the remainder of the glass with steamed almond milk. Top with foam, extra lavender, and a light dusting of cinnamon or nutmeg if you wish!

The ‘Something Old’ That Moved This Grandma-Of-The-Bride to Tears

The look on this grandmother’s face? It’s absolutely everything. It’s the reaction to seeing her granddaughter, Shannon wearing the wedding dress she wore 50 years earlier as Shannon walked down the aisle. Emily Steffen captured these sweet moments worth a thousand words and we’re taking cues from this bride and honoring mothers (and grandmothers!) everywhere today on SMP. Mamas, let’s raise a glass to you!

From Emily Steffen PhotographyGrandma’s first glimpse of Shannon as she came around the corner wearing her 50-year-old wedding dress brought her to tears. Her hand clasped over her mouth and her eyes filled with tears as she looked at her husband out of the corner of her eye. Grandma couldn’t get the awe and wonder off her face the rest of the night…she was elated that Shannon chose to wear such a precious piece of her story into the beginning of their own! :)

Shannon and Dave planned a FABULOUS day filled with meaningful traditions, favorite family recipes (YAY for midwestern salads, yum) and loads of love! And Norskedalen was the perfect location for their big day; lush with greenery, tall trees and the most wonderful open space for their outdoor dance party under as the strung lights and twinkling stars in the warm summer night sky!

The Single Girl’s Guide to Surviving Wedding Season

From The Bride…Matt and I met in San Francisco and after a couple of years dating, Matt completely surprised me and proposed while hiking our favorite Muir Woods trail. When we first began planning, we had tunnel vision on all the small details but as the planning continued we realized we needed to determine what we wanted our wedding to feel like. We knew we wanted to create a relaxed environment focused on our love and our guests where everyone could share a few laughs and joyful tears. Once that was determined, we focused on the bigger picture and started hiring vendors that we felt could best help us create that feeling and the smaller details just fell inline. We hired amazing vendors that all had a deep love for their profession and who we felt a personal connection with. Our venue, Cornerstone Gardens, was exactly what we were looking for and was the perfect backdrop for our day, not to mention we lucked out with 80 degree weather in April. Our photographers, Erin Hearts Court, are an adorable married couple who recently moved to Napa and consistently capture amazing images of love and joy. Our caterer, Sage Catering, delighted our taste buds with an engaging family style meal focused on foods Matt and I love. Our Florist, Siren Floral Co, was given free rein to create our floral beauties and her creativity and enthusiasm exceeded our expectations. Our wedding planner and guitarist are both great friends of ours and we were so lucky to have their support. My sister, Courtney, designed the majority of our printed materials from our save the date to menu’s and my older sister, Shannon, did her magic on my hair. I could continue to give praise to everyone who helped us and put in their labor of love but overall Matt and I surrounded ourselves with people we felt would emulate our personalities and make our day a day filled with joy and beauty. Our wedding day was exactly the laid back day we dreamed of and could not have been more “us.” Like most brides and grooms, we wished the day would have never ended and in the words of my husband at the after party “getting married is so fun.”

Bouquet Breakdown: Elegant + Colorful Springfield Wedding

This bouquet makes me all sorts of happy. Why? Garden roses. Lots and lots of garden roses. Oh, and I simply can’t forget those ranunculuses because those are a major fav too. Which is why we’ve asked the ever-so-talented He Loves Me Flowers to share the pretty that went into making this posy and we’ve got it all waiting for you below!

[dotted]

Elegant + Colorful Springfield Wedding

  • 5 stems of Red “Matador” Garden Roses
  • 7 stems of “Quicksand” Roses
  • 3 stems of Red Ranunculus
  • 7 stems of White Stock
  • 6 stems of Deep Red Hypericum Berries
  • 3 stems of White Veronica
  • 4 stems of Italian Ruscus
  • 5 stems of Silver Dollar Eucalyptus

From He Loves Me Flowers… My personal floral design philosophy is that every single flower arranged in a bouquet should have a purpose. Each floral ingredient should either “shine”, compliment, fill, add texture or add movement.  All the elements should blend together harmoniously, creating a floral masterpiece, while at the same time accentuating the bride’s personality and the overall wedding celebration.

When creating the wedding floral vision, I always ask the bride the color scheme, the style and the overall atmosphere for her wedding. As the floral designer, my goal is to create florals that fit, compliment and bring out the best in the overall event and individual person. About 90% of the time a bride doesn’t know what kind of flowers she wants (and she should not have to!) so that’s where I come in. Based on the season of her wedding, her colors, style, atmosphere, etc. I suggest floral options that I feel would be a good fit for her personality and wedding. Based on my suggestions and her feedback, I figure out what she loves! So together we come up with a beautiful mix of custom florals.

Jaelyn’s vision for her wedding was a perfect blend of elegance, romance, and class. Her colors were crimson red and champagne with touches of white and fresh foliage. I knew she loved greenery and loose, natural, flowing bouquets with texture. For starters, we chose garden roses and ranunculus (they are one of the secrets to making a bouquet look romantically spectacular!!) and I also wanted to incorporate the quicksand roses to tie in her champagne color. I accomplished the various texture elements by adding in stock, berries, veronica and two different kinds of foliage. The texture gives a bouquet personality and genuine uniqueness, while the organic foliage gives the bouquet movement and refreshment.  The beautiful thing about Jaelyn and her family was that they trusted me completely. They gave me the keys to creative freedom which I know from experience makes all the difference and as a result, culminated in a stunning, timeless bouquet!

See the Statement Piece That Makes This Home Office Shine

One look at those neon lights and you’ll be in official office envy mode. This bright, bold space is home to blogger Bridentity Crisis and a little sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle (and maybe legos and diapers too). It’s a no boys allowed kind of HQ where neon reigns Queen. See the full space designed by Stafford Bensen for Havenly along with photos by Hallie Duesenberg in the VAULT.

From Kristin of Bridentity Crisis… I knew when we moved into our new house that I wanted a dedicated space where I could work on my blog Bridentity Crisis and feel creatively inspired. And as I was in the process of designing my new website, I thought that my office’s design would be the perfect place to bring the blog to life. The other thing that was important to me was that the space be completely devoid of anything relating to little boys, as I’ve got one 18-month-old and another one on the way! So this space needed to be my safe haven from dinosaurs and diapers.

I partnered with online interior design company Havenly to help turn my simple white extra bedroom into the office of my dreams: girly yet edgy, fun and unexpected. Fortunately, my designer Stafford Bensen knew exactly what I was going for right away and helped to translate my blog’s aesthetic into a bold design, pairing black and white patterns with pops of neon pink. And of course the pièce de résistance is the neon sign bearing my new Bridentity Crisis logo. Now every time I come in here, I literally flip the switch and the bright pink glow instantly puts me in the zone!

And since I’m no longer a bride, I’ve surrounded myself with special mementos to keep me in that wedding state of mind, including a Barbie replica of me as a bride that my mom had made, as well as a caricature version of my husband and I on our wedding day that he commissioned for our anniversary. I also love that the floating shelves showcase sweet pictures of our big day alongside some some quotes that I use to stay focused, especially “I Will Not Compare Myself to Strangers on the Internet”, which is something I think every bride…well, everybody really…could benefit from. I love that this new office space is the perfect place for me to grow my blog while still being just 10 feet away from my mom duties!

#SMPWedding101 – Hosting Your Wedding at a Restaurant

Florals and gorgeous gowns are obvious essentials to a fabulous wedding but let’s not forget the cuisine… the surest way to your guests hearts is through their stomachs after all. We’re big fans of hosting your “I do’s” at a favorite restaurant and L’Andana Grill agrees, and are happily sharing the reasons why you should be saying yes to your go-to dining destination when looking for just the right venue!

Reason #1

A restaurant wedding is an easy choice for couples who want the full wedding experience, but who don’t want to sweat the details, since everything, from chairs to chafing dishes to a coat check room, is already in place. Restaurants tend to have their own esthetic and décor that you can play off of, perfect for those couples who aren’t super focused or interested on designing a whole new look for their big day. This can allow them to allocate those funds to other areas of your wedding budget that are more important to them!

Reason #2

Most restaurants have an onsite coordinator that you can utilize. Their insight and guidance is invaluable, as they can assist with not only choosing the best menu for the day but can also with all the details during the day of!

Having this in-house go-to person to help control the flow of the day and manage all the vendors and guests will help allow the couple to relax and enjoy – which is the main goal, right!?

Reason #3

Hosting your wedding at a restaurant means great food that you love! We love when guests book their celebrations at our restaurant because they know and love our cuisine and that can be such a special and important part of their big day. And additionally, guests always remember weddings when they are fed well!

An Insiders Guide on Planning the Ultimate Party

It’s a well known fact that we love ourselves a good party, but planning said party? Well, it’s no easy feat, but thanks to the talented team at Be Inspired PR we’ve broken down the tips what what it takes to take a celebration from casual to crazy fun. Read on below and find even more party inspiration in The Vault!

Decor

Make it eye catching! Have a few really cute areas for people to take great photos in front of! It’ll make it memorable and it’ll look really professional. Also, fresh flowers really bring a space to life…not to mention they smell amazing.

Space

Utilize all of it! Get creative and hang things from the ceiling if you want. Balloon chandeliers (an easy DIY!), projected bar menus and suspended dessert displays are all great uses of hanging space.

Seating

make sure there’s plenty of space for people to sit! Cocktail parties are great for mingling, but heels hurt. Style cute seating vignettes around the event to give your guests a place to lounge.

Food

Pay attention to the time of your event. If it’s during a meal time, make sure you’re feeding your guests! Even if it’s small tray-passed bites, you don’t want guests to leave early because they were too hungry.

Drinks

While a full bar isn’t always necessary, adding a fun signature cocktail to your wine selection will give your guests another beverage option. For your non-alcohol drinkers, an aguas frescas station brings them in on the libations fun. If you place your flavored water next to the dance floor it can also double as a hydration station!

Music

The beginning of parties is always the most calm, especially for evening events. Bring in a small quartet to play some lower key music for your earlier guests to enjoy. As it gets later, start the DJ jams and get everyone on the dance floor!

Dessert

Always have something sweet because a party without cake is just a meeting, right? Make it interactive so guests can pick and choose what they want or even see it being made on the spot.

Party Favors

The best part of any party! Send your guests home with a little gift as a thank you for coming. It can be anything from a sweet treat to a bottle of wine. You can personalize it too so they think of you when they use it!
Documentation

As the host you’ll likely be too busy “hosting” (aka attending to last minute to do’s and mingling with guests) to appreciate the event as a whole. Make sure you have someone there to capture all the excitement on film so you have something to look back on after.

HAVE FUN!

You worked hard on planning your party…Now it’s time to make memories and enjoy yourself and your guests!

A Gold Medal Worthy Wedding Fit for a Five-Time Olympic Champion

When you’re a five-time gold medal Olympian, only the best will do for your big day. And let me assure you, this gorgeous Laguna Beach wedding is definitely the best of the best — a Monique Lhuillier gown, a seaside ceremony overflowing with white flowers and an al fresco reception under the stars. Head to The Vault to see it all captured by John Schnack Photography, who frankly deserves a medal of his own!

From Brian DobbinThe Montage Laguna Beach’s classic style and location embodied the spirit of this couple and gave me a framework within which to style their day.

He, a 5-time Olympic Gold Medalist rower and she in 3rd-year med school, both are driven and disciplined but low-key and relaxed in their personal lives.

They met at UCLA. The Groom’s family is from a small midwest town, very conservative and reserved, and the Bride is a California girl from Emerald Bay whose mother is an advertising guru and father a famous painter. Quite a diverse group!

My goal was to make this quintessential California love story simple and elegant and understandable to everyone and allow these families to blend together easily. My mantra throughout the design process was “feel at home”.

The ceremony location was a no-brainer; the biggest greenest lawn with the biggest bluest ocean backdrop filled with hundreds of distressed French kitchen chairs, entrance and wedding arch made of rough-hewn trees and covered with two truckloads of pristine white flowers by Urban Gardener.

Simple piano music, bridesmaids in a blush dress of their own choice and bouquets of their own design. My Bride was looking statuesque at 6’ tall in the first dress I discovered at Erin Cole. I knew immediately that this Monique Lhuillier was meant for her.

The groomsmen, (ranging in height from 6’2”-6’5”), were elegant and handsome in navy blue suits and ties.

The best part of the event was The Montage allowing us to be the first client to buy-out studio, their famous fine-dining restaurant with the killer view.

I couldn’t imagine having this group dine anywhere else on property! The ballrooms are lovely but no view, and besides, I had other plans for those!

Once we secured studio and their amazing chef I began to re-design the restaurant into a “house on the Ocean”, removing every piece of furniture and installing antique furniture, carpets, flowers, books, (who’s titles all had something to do with love/marriage/family), cashmere throws, and personal items that make a house a home. Post-ceremony cocktails and jazz took place in the Studio herb garden with simple reclaimed wood bars and tables and the sun and fragrant plants and flowers. Guests lounged on garden walls and hung out in the “house” and the gorgeous bar.

The oceanfront terraces were cleared and we rolled in 22 real antique farm tables and mismatched chairs that carried the theme of “home”. Amazing flower groupings in antique vasesby Urban Gardener, many candles, and strings of Italian garden lights, (on dimmers), set the mood. Sunset on the terrace was spectacular, and a five course dinner was punctuated by traditional wedding shenanigans, moving speeches and wild dancing and much, much laughter.

The #1 Reason Every Mama Should Do a Photoshoot with Her Baby

As we approach Mother’s Day and get ready to shower the most important women in our lives with love, lots of love, this sweet shoot from Miss Figuette is the perfect reminder to stop and smell the roses. Whether you are a new mom, prepping to snuggle in close with your babies, a seasoned vet or celebrating your leading ladies that have made you who you are, don’t forget to capture those gorgeous memories that literally go by at a million miles a minute.

Miss Figuette was born from the desire to capture the bonds that unite the families, free from the nonessentials and focused on what matters the most. We believe in slow living and take that approach to photography, documenting the beauty of the authentic moments on film.

This shoot captures Maria Guedes, a Portuguese fashion and lifestyle blogger and her sweet daughter Pia on a date.

Maria works mostly from home but due to her super successful blog she struggles to have quality time to be with her little ones. This shoot was the perfect excuse to log off for a couple of hours and be on a date with her daughter.

The subtlety of the blissful interactions between them shows the love they have for one another and the beauty of a cosy, slow monday morning.

This is the moment to reclaim time and spend it in whatever ways bring us happiness.

The First Place this Bride Looked for Her Color Scheme? Her Closet!

When it comes to planning your wedding, deciding on a color palette can be daunting, so you’ll want to steal this Bride’s ingenious idea. “To choose a color palette for our wedding I started in my closet…. I took a step back, squinted my eyes and noticed the color I saw the most was fuchsia.” From there, the rest of her fairytale vision came to life in this beautiful day captured by Stepan Vrzala. See it all in The Vault!

From The Bride…Every girl grows up dreaming about her fairytale wedding day. I was no different. I wanted a beautiful castle with a sweeping grand staircase, the perfect sunny warm day, bright colorful flowers and let’s not forget… Prince Charming! My Prince Charming, otherwise known as Jeremy, and I, LOVE to travel, so deciding to have a destination wedding was easy. Picking a location was a bit more challenging. We knew it needed to be a castle (obviously), but wanted our guests to travel to a place they had never been before. We decided on Prague, the beautiful Czech countryside and Chateau Mcely. That’s when the dream of my fairytale wedding started to take shape.

To choose a color palette for our wedding I started in my closet. Isn’t that where all color palettes start? I took a step back, squinted my eyes and noticed the color I saw the most was fuchsia (and black, but we’re going to forget about that part). It’s true, bright vibrant pink is my favorite color. I just never realized it until that day in my closet. Now, what to put with fuchsia? I came out of the closet and flipped through bridal magazines, searched Google and scoured the pages of Style Me Pretty until I found a picture of a bouquet I fell in love with. It featured fuchsia roses and various lighter shades of pink peonies with a touch of green. Right click, save as, color palette complete!

Having a two year engagement is both a blessing and a curse. It gave me lots of time to plan and even more time to DIY. Our Save the Date is probably my favorite part of our invitation suite. Jeremy and I sat down together at the dining room table one Saturday and we painted a picture of Chateau Mcely. We scanned the picture and had it turned into glossy postcards to send our guests. Our guests loved finding out we were the artists. It added a personal touch right from the very beginning.

Before we knew it, the plane was landing in Prague and the wedding celebrations had begun!

On Day one, we asked guests to meet us under the Astronomical Clock in Old Town Square at 1pm. As the trumpeters finished their arrangement and crowds began to dissipate we started to find one another. Together we walked the cobblestone streets to an old pub where we spent the rest of the afternoon chatting and drinking.

Day two, guests had a leisurely day as they checked into their rooms at Chateau Mcely. We had a lazy afternoon in the sun as we lounged around the natural pool and tossed beach balls. That evening we took a bus to a neighboring town for a chateau and brewery tour. The highlight of the evening was a medieval dinner complete with sword fights and fire breathers!

Day three was about team building and bragging rights. Guests were given colored t-shirts in their welcome bags. They were asked to wear their team t-shirt and meet on the lawn of the Chateau for a Geocaching event. Each team was given a GPS tracking device and raced to be the first to each secret cache. It was exhilarating and competitive. Yellow team went home with gold medals engraved with our wedding logo and the date. After guests cooled down they joined us for our rehearsal dinner on the Chateau Patio. Guests were offered homemade lavender lemonade and Chateau Mcely’s own Nine Flowers Herbal iced tea to sip from mason jars.

The wedding took place on day four. By this time our guests were like family, laughing and joking as if they had known each other all their lives. As the string trio played familiar tunes guests began to gather once again on the Chateau patio. Bright pink hydrangeas, peonies and roses lined the white carpeted aisle. I never felt more beautiful than the moment I walked down the aisle in my Badgley Mischka gown. It was my princess moment. Our florist, Marketa, tied my Grandmother’s ring, given to me by my father, to the base of my bouquet, so that she was there with me on my special day. The ceremony was sweet and made personal with readings from two family members and a unity candle lighting with our parents. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and Champaign on the lawn before moving into the Chateau dining room for dinner. Guests dined on grilled Chilean sea bass, beef sirloin and roasted duck prepared from an old Czech recipe. Mini jars of Chateau Mcely’s wild thyme hand balm were placed at each guests’ place setting as a token of our appreciation. Guests were invited onto the dance floor after dinner. Shortly after, our 4-tier wedding cake adorned with cascading fresh roses and peonies was rolled out by the pastry chef. The cake was the sugar rush our guests needed to keep them fueled for a night full of dancing.

The next morning, the fifth and final day, guests enjoyed a delicious chateau brunch while recounting memorable moments from the previous days. Old and new friends eventually said farewell to each other before departing Chateau Mcely, many continuing their travels to new destinations before heading home.

Looking back on this experience, my advice to future brides would be to enjoy your engagement and be realistic with giving yourself enough time for planning your dream day. There were several couples engaged after us and married before us and I have no idea how they did it without being stressed. It took a full year and a half of planning to put our wedding together. With a full time job and a busy schedule I can’t imagine doing it in less time and enjoying it as much as I did. We met some amazing people in the process who helped make everything come together seamlessly. Katka, Stepan, Marketa, Milli and the staff at Chateau Mcely, thank you!

Before They Even Met, a Friend Predicted This Couple’s Happily Ever After

Before Kayla left for her freshman year at William & Mary, a family friend told her, “You need to meet a baseball player named Ryan. You’re going to marry him.” One beautiful June day, she did just that in a French Country-inspired wedding she designed and coordinated herself. With flowers from Southern Blooms and thoughtful details throughout, Kayla and Ryan’s wedding was a dream. See it all from Kathy Blanchard Photography and Tweed Weddings in The Vault!

From Kathy Blanchard PhotographyKayla and Ryan are an amazingly sweet and gorgeous couple who were married on the veranda at Congressional Country Club on a gorgeous day in June. Congressional is such an amazing and grand venue, but has a Spanish touch due to the architecture of the building, with the lovely terra cotta roof and iron detailing. Kayla got ready in the guest room on the top floor over looking the back of the club. She and her bridesmaids were able to relax and have their makeup and hair done while viewing all the preparations going on below. Ryan was also getting ready at the club in another room set aside for the groomsmen. The weather was perfect as these 2 said I do with about 200 guests in attendance. They had their ceremony under an amazing archway of old doors and spectacular flowers that Pat’s Floral design had created for them. They then had gorgeous cocktail hour for their guests as the sun was setting. Kayla and Ryan took a golf cart around the grounds to get some amazing photos from the side of this incredible building to the 18th hole with a spectacular view of the club behind them. They then joined the rest of their guests for a gorgeous reception with stunning details including mercury glass vases with pink roses and soft blooms as well as silver candelabras and warm candlelight. They finished off their place settings with a wisp of lavender on each plate. The reception room of Congressional is just stunning with wood details on the ceiling and grand fireplaces at either end. They danced to the music of Millenium an incredible band. They finished off the night with wedding cake and a dessert bar including oreos – the couples favorite cookie. They had used oreos in their engagement pictures as well! So happy for a gorgeous couple so in love.

Kayla and Ryan met on the first day of freshman year at William & Mary. Ryan and (best man) Brett went knocking on Kayla’s door hoping to meet some new friends, but really were just star struck in how gorgeous Kayla’s blue eyes were. After an hour of Brett talking and Ryan not saying a word, Kayla asked for his number…Ryan’s number. Little did the guys know, but Kayla’s family friend back home told her before heading off to college, “You need to meet a baseball player named Ryan Williams; you’re going to marry him.” Kayla and Ryan became close friends over the next year and half; practicing their dirty dancing moves in the dorm hallway and having regular 3 hour conversations late at night because they didn’t want to say goodnight. They finally realized true love was staring them back in the face, so on April Fool’s Day (I know, not the best date choice, but we’ll never forget it) of 2013 Ryan proposed to Kayla. Twenty of their closest friends and about 100 strangers on a campus tour stopped to cheer them on and celebrate. 15 months later, on June 14, 2014, the couple got married and now live happily ever after in Northern Virginia.

Kayla and Ryan’s wedding was so unique, fun, beautiful, loving, timeless…just classic. The day of the wedding was gorgeous with blue skies, sun shining and not a cloud in the sky. Kayla and Ryan exchanged vows in front of about 200 family & friends. The ceremony took place out on the back veranda of Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD, under an amazing archway made out of doors and old wood topped off with gorgeous flowers from Southern Blooms. During the cocktail hour, close family posed for pictures followed by romantic pictures of just the couple on the grounds of CCC. The dinner reception took place in the main Congressional ballroom and the decorations were stunning! The band Millennium led an acoustic set during dinner, which turned into a jam packed dance floor party for the rest of the night.

Would like to give special recognition to the bride herself for designing and coordinating every detail of this wedding. Her attention to detail did not go unnoticed – all the way from the French country/rustic color scheme, to the beautiful table decorations, and even a fun coloring book for the kids table. The couple received numerous compliments from the vendors on how elegant this wedding was and they continue to hear from friends & family how this was “the best wedding ever.”

Planned In Only Two Months, This Pretty Pink Wedding is Perfectly Sweet

Props to anyone who plans their big day in a matter of months, but those that pull of it off super stylishly too? Well I bow down in your honor – and that’s exactly what I’m doing with Justine Milton’s pics right here. This winter wedding is elegant, chic and oh so sweet, and considering it was planned in only two months, it’s even more impressive. Let our Vault motivate you right this way!

From Justine MiltonCindy and Johnny had two months to plan their wedding. With the vision in mind of a clean and elegant design showcasing hints of tradition, Cindy decided to go with a soft neutral colour palette of gold, blush and ivory. Wanting to expand on the theme of a winter wedding, Cindy went with ivory glitz linens that resembled the look of snow and alternated tables with a soft blush linen. On the wedding day, Cindy and Johnny got ready at one of the pinnacle downtown hotels and they were able to capture bridal party photos and special moments between the bride and groom among some of Calgary’s historic downtown architecture. The wedding day itself was filled of personal touches of reading aloud each other’s vows in their candle filled ceremony and having an intimate dinner and dancing with close friends and family.
