A Typical Sit-Down Reception Wouldn’t Do for This Laid-Back Couple

This right here is my kind of couple. For a normal sit-down reception just wouldn’t do for this laid-back duo. Their choice of celebration? A Mediterranean cocktail party complete with a wishing booth that acted as their interactive guestbook, Brigadeiros in lieu of a wedding cake, Beauty in the Making at the helm, Love in Vintage rentals, and Ozzy Garcia behind the lens. Overall, it’s wedding day perfection. See it all in The Vault!

Whimsical

From the Bride… Daniel proposed to me while we were in Brazil visiting his family on the rooftop of the world famous Hotel Fasano, at sunset. Besides the beautiful scenery of Rio de Janeiro, what made the moment even more special is that we were surrounded by family and friends. I remember all of the girls gathered together to take a photo (pre-planned but unknown to me) Daniel came up and grabbed my hand, got down on one knee and I thought “what in the world is he doing”. I was so surprised that I have no idea what he said after that… but I do remember saying yes!

The wedding was Mediterranean cocktail inspired. I wanted the entire vibe to feel warm, inviting and super laid back. As if we were having a small outdoor gathering at our own home. Everything from the seating layout, to the music and the way we planned the food was designed to encourage guests to explore, mingle with each other and feel the love. It was a very intimate, small wedding so we were really able to focus on laughing with friends and family, enjoying the live music and beautiful Miami night, not an evening fixed around a traditional wedding agenda.

I loved our “wedding aisle” that we walked down, it was a combination of vines that fell from the sky. I also loved the “Wishing Booth”, it was sort of an interactive guestbook. Instead of wedding cake we did Brigadeiros which are a traditional Brazilian dessert (since the groom is from Brazil).

Daniel’s favorite moment was seeing the bride for the first time. And Kelli’s special moment was that kiss at the end when they say “you may now kiss your bride”

An advice for future Brides & Grooms: Don’t stress too much. The best advice I got was from Daniel when I was having a freak out moment leading up to the wedding. I was worried that things weren’t going to be “perfect”. He said to me – “Babe, no matter what happens that day, if it rains, if it snows, if the flowers don’t show up, if spill wine on your dress (almost happened), in the end we will still be marrying each other and that’s all that really matters”. I pretty much melted in his arms when he said that.

How To Bring A Beachy Vibe Into Your Home Without Going Overboard

Typically when I think of coastal, it’s all  driftwood and starfish. Not my cup of tea. But this home to designer and blogger Meredith Rodday of View from My Heels is my favorite kind of tea. Calm and cozy that exudes coastal charm without any blatant ocean paraphernalia. Instead it’s layered with texture and prints, moody blues and that perfect shade of white. And did I mention shiplap? Oh yeah, that too. Check out even more of this New England home with gorgeous imagery by Kate Renyi in the VAULT.

Four years ago we bought a new house that was very well built but that didn’t really feel like our home with our personality. So we decided to add some functionality as well as some design elements that make the spaces more unique to us! I’ve fallen so hard for that laid back California look with lots of white and bright rooms.

Also I’m always inspired by Studio McGee and House of Jade. The goal was to create calm and bright spaces that felt relaxing in the midst of a chaotic (but fun) life with young kids. In the past I’ve always decorated with color but I find as I get older and as life gets busier, I’m increasingly drawn to calm palettes. It’s been a fun departure from the bright spaces of my past!

Our entry had a big double height wall where I tried a gallery wall but nothing ever felt right. I toyed with wallpapering the whole space but I have wallpaper commitment issues (!) so the right choice for us was to shiplap. I did a ton of pinning and googling before figuring out exactly where the shiplap would go.

The natural point seemed to be to match the height of the floors on the second story. I decided to add a picture ledge to the top of where the shiplap ended on that big wall. I love seeing our family photos every morning when I come downstairs! We also shiplapped the front of the stairs to tie it all together.

I thought long and hard about adding shiplap to the entire entry but in the end decided against it – budget was one of them! – and we can also go back and add it at a later date if we want. I had the un-shiplapped walls painted white to match the shiplap and unify the space. It looks so fresh and clean – we love how it turned out!

If you know that we have 4 year old twin boys you had to be wondering, where are the toys? See that gray bookcase thing? That’s where. And also inside the console behind the sofa in the first photo, in the built ins, and on that side table next to the sofa too.

In the kitchen we changed out the island counter and the pendants above the island and the sink. I did a 2″ edge on the counter because I love that thick look. It’s marble and we have to be careful but it’s pretty and so, so much better than the old tan granite. I had already added the backsplash a couple of years ago in preparation for these updates. We also swapped out our old metal counter stools for leather ones to add a little warmth and texture.

The bench cushion is indoor/outdoor fabric and has already been put to the test with tomato sauce and wiped up no problem!

We added a new pendant (and the not-so-old light was moved into the dining room), table, chairs (and said farewell to our high chairs for some boosters), and built in seat. The built in was a late decision as we were doing the work from the other projects last fall and I’m so glad we pulled the trigger. It changed the whole space. The roman shades are pretty much the only thing that didn’t change but now they look like they belong!

I decided to choose a custom cabinet to fit the space. I wanted a clean look so I went with inset cabinetry and a white quartz top. I had the fabricator miter a 2″ edge which is a good trick and way to fake a thicker counter. I also decided to have no overhang on the counter so it fits the cabinet base cleanly.

The mirror is from restoration hardware and I love the super simple rounded corners. I went with brass for the lighting, mirror, and knobs and chrome for the faucet. The mix of finishes make it feel more interesting and I love the non-matchy matchy look.

We added sconces above each dresser and put them on a dimmer so they give off great ambient light.

The built ins have made such a huge difference not only in terms of storage but also coziness. They are painted dove white by benjamin moore. Hardware is from schoolhouse electric, one of my very faves.

I used the same linen for the bench seat cushion as for the bed and had the seamstress do a french seam for a less tailored look. I love how it came out!

I love how the bed and nightstands came together. The bed I wanted was from restoration hardware but even the lowest headboard height was too high for the window above. Covering it up seemed awkward so I opted for the custom route. I found this guy, jordan, in arizona who make exact replicas of the RH beds (and any other one you might want) in custom sizes. Score! The company is called custom beds and headboards, straight forward enough! Honestly his pricing is fantastic – no more than buying it from RH including shipping and tax. So I quickly scooped up some greige linen fabric and sent it to him to do his magic.

The tufting is well done and the thing is sturdy. I also had a giant 4 foot lumbar pillow made from boho pillow on etsy. The shades and duvet cover were pretty much the only things left over from the old room.

The built in design was heavily influenced by a snap I saw on instagram (have I professed my love for IG lately?!). The only real change we made was to add doors to the lower section – the original was all drawers which looks awesome but wasn’t as practical in real life. I chose kendall charcoal by benjamin moore for the built ins and love the way the dark color pops. We moved our old tv from the family room down here and it works well in the new space. Definitely feels more integrated!

On the wall to the left of the built ins (where the zebra is in photo above and below) I made a grid of oversized clothespins that are hung with command strips – quite possibly my favorite product ever – to show off the boys artwork. It’s fun (and easy) to rotate all of their masterpieces and they love that their work is on display!

On the opposite side of the built ins is a play table for the boys and their friends with a ton of ikea storage. Thank goodness for ikea right? Also I used the same pattern for the roman shades as for the wallpaper. I think it helps unify the space.

Basement and Play Room

Wall Color: simply white, Benjamin Moore | Built in Color: Kendall Charcoal, Benjamin Moore | Built in Hardware: Pottery Barn Boulevard Collection (i think sadly it’s sold out) | Sectional | Wallpaper and Roman Shade Fabric | Zebra | Sofa Pillows: see my IG post here – all sources are tagged and all of them are shops i found through instagram | Oversize Clothespins: see my post here and you will also get a peek at the “before”

After completing the project I invited clients and friends over to check it out and shared it on Instagram. I had a great response which feels so nice after months of hard work and research! It also enabled my business to grow because people could see first hand what my designs look like – a nice side bonus!

Our next projects include the dining room which we’ve made good progress on and the office which has a ways to go. Transformations definitely don’t happen overnight and there’s a lot of ugly – even in designers’ own houses – before the pretty stuff comes!

From Laurie Arons Special EventsElise & Sean are one of the kindest, sweetest couples I’ve had the pleasure of sending down the aisle, and with beautiful taste too. Elise imagined an elegant and romantic day for her hometown San Diego wedding, and the team of vendors loved working with her to bring this vision to life.

The couple were married in a Catholic ceremony at Founders Chapel, before joining guests at their reception at the Lodge at Torrey Pines. We transformed the Lodge’s green lawn into an ethereal garden party, with custom wood structures by Rrivre Works. Mindy Rice Design pulled out all the stops adorning the structure with greenery & flowers, while beautiful light fixtures cast a soft glow over the dinner.

The tabletop was one of my favorite parts of the wedding. Elise & Sean’s wedding was the first to use Casa de Perrin’s Sage & gold florentine chargers, which looked beautiful alongside their gold flatware & cut crystal stemware. Following dinner, guests danced away to Encore, one of the incredible bands from West Coast Music.

From L’Relyea EventsThis St. Francis wedding was an autumn evening dream. This Atlanta, Georgia couple invited their guests to join them for a romantic & intimate winery affair. We wanted to play into the time of year by focusing the colors on burgundy, cream and some greenery. It created a elegant yet cozy event as fall took its place in wine country. We added simple yet significant details throughout, from weaving pashminas on the ladies dining chairs for extra warmth, elegant warm florals throughout, up-lights illuminating the vineyards, and twinkle lights to create a romantic atmosphere for the guests to dine and dance throughout the evening.

From The Bride…I met Chad in one of the most exciting and romantic places you could meet your future husband: the office. Ok, so while that isn’t the most exciting of places to meet, the journey we have been through together since our initial meeting and courtship has been an amazing one, filled with a common interest in traveling, enjoying new foods, and living life!

After a dating period of 4 years, it was time for Chad to pop the question. He wanted the proposal to be memorable, but also a surprise. He convinced me he was taking me on a surprise birthday trip, as my birthday fell around the same time as our engagement. Since birthday surprises were not the ‘norm’ throughout our relationship, I was slightly suspicious, although very excited, so I managed not to ruin the surprise.

His trip took us both to the beautiful islands of Turks and Caicos, where Chad had a private catamaran chartered to take us out to an uninhabited island, where he proposed on the beach!

Since the proposal fell in the month of December, and the fall is my favorite time of the year, that left me less than a year to plan, so I knew I would need the help of an expert wedding planning team. With the help of Julia and the l’Relyea Wedding Planning team, my vision was able to come to life from across the country!

I always loved the concept of destination weddings. Weddings that only last a few hours to me just seem too short, and I really wanted to enjoy the company of friends and family from across the country for an extended weekend. Chad and I had visited the Napa Valley/Sonoma Valley region in the fall of 2013, and decided this would be a great spot for a destination wedding. Many of our friends had expressed an interest in visiting the area, but had yet to make plans to do so. This gave them the perfect opportunity to visit the area.

I started working with l’Relyea events in February with a visit to the area to tour different venues. They put together a complete schedule to see 10 venues in just 2 days. Chad and I chose St. Francis for its combination of an amazing view, a beautiful property, and ‘blank canvas’ as you might call it. This would not be a cookie cutter venue, as each detail had to be selected from the chairs and tables to the linens.

The only other trip I made to the area before the big day came in April where we had our engagement session with Mike Larson, visited caterers, tasted cake, and had a walkthrough of the venue. Julia immediately started painting the picture for me as we walked through and discussed where each part of the event would take place.

You’d Never Know a Wildfire Was Burning Just Miles From Their Wedding

Courtney and Tyson had the sweetest celebration ever. Despite the fact that there was a raging wildfire burning just miles away, nothing seemed to derail this duo’s plans on promising their forever. From the dreamy lakeside ceremony to dinner overlooking the valley, every carefully orchestrated detail by Spread Love Events went off without a hitch. Christie Graham Photography captured it all in The Vault!

From Spread Love EventsCourtney and Tyson were engaged just off the lake shore of La Stella Winery in Osoyoos, B.C. and chose sister wineries La Stella and Le Vieux Pin to host their wedding ceremony and reception. Saying their “I do’s” by the lake at La Stella, and then enjoying dinner and dancing under a white marquee tent among the rows of grapes at the nearby Le Vieux Pin. Elegant details, wonderful food, heart felt speeches and a dance party that lasted until the early morning hours. Courtney and Tyson, the way you looked at each other that day, and the joy shared among all your family and friends, reminds us why we love what we do. Thank you for trusting Spread Love Events to plan your wedding, it was such a privilege!

As a Wedding Planner we have the unique privilege of getting to know our clients in a personal way and playing a role in their most significant of celebrations. Throughout this process many hours are spent together dreaming up their vision, navigating decisions, and guiding them towards this special day. Seeing our clients vision realized, and watching them enjoy and celebrate with their family and friends brings us so much joy. On Courtney and Tyson’s wedding day, wild fire smoke blew in moments before their ceremony. Our dreamy vision of a lake-side ceremony and dinner overlooking the valley was changing. And yet it didn’t. Courtney, Tyson and their families didn’t blink an eye. The wind and wild fire had nothing on these two’s love for each other. It was one of the most meaningful celebrations we have been a part of. The love and energy shared, the laughter, tears and amazing dancing, the celebration was real. It reminded us why we do what we do.

A Boho Inspiration Session Fit for a Greek God + Goddess

This inspiration session from Anna Roussos Photography and The Event Co. is the perfect marriage (pun intended) of organic, natural beauty and colorful bohemian glamour. Combining the best elements of both styles — from the natural woods and lush greenery to the pops of color and whimsical reception seating — this editorial has it all. Head to The Vault for all the inspiration you need!

From Anna Roussos Photography… This styled shooting took place at my photography workshop in Athens Greece. When choosing the concept of the shooting me and Anna Sourbati (the owner and wedding planner from The Event Co) wanted to create something colourful & cozy with a dash of boho. Beautiful indoor and outdoor areas of Pyrgos Petreza offered us a great choice of locations. We decided to create an indoor ceremony set-up, outdoor lounge zone and outdoor dinner table set-up. Besides that our attendants had a portrait session with the bride&groom and also photographed some wedding essentials, such as wedding invitation set, diamond rings, flowers and cakes. I want to thank all the vendors for being so professional and inspiring! The One Day Workshop was a fantastic experience for me and hopefully for all the attendants, who left with a huge smile on their faces.

A Garden Wedding in Winter? Oh Yes They Did.

We typically associate garden weddings with springtime. But if you’re lucky enough to live in Florida, like this Bride and Groom, you can have a garden wedding any time of year. It simply takes a vision and vendors like Premier Party RentalsConfetti EventsA+P Design Co., and Showorks Events, and an incredible photographer to capture it all, like K and K Photography. Get inspired in The Vault!

From The Bride…Our wedding weekend was unequivocally the best time Chris or I have ever had. And it truly was a weekend of revelry — we celebrated New Year’s Eve with our wedding party, followed by a wonderful New Year’s Day rehearsal dinner with our families and out-of-town guests, crowned by our wedding day itself. So, my advice to other brides is to prioritize the fun for your guests, and most importantly, to let yourself enjoy that fun as well!

We were married in my sweet hometown, Bartow, FL at my family’s church, and held our reception at a private residence owned by family friends. The gorgeous plantation-style home spoke for itself and we are so grateful for the unique opportunity to have held the reception there!

Our fabulous team of vendors carried out our vision for the day flawlessly. We dreamed of a romantic, organic winter garden wedding represented by a spectrum of jewel tones — amethyst, emerald, wine, and gold. These colors were infused throughout the wedding, included in our linens, paper goods, florals and bridesmaids’ dresses. Our cocktail hour was hosted throughout the house and outside on the patio, while the reception itself was held under a string-light lit tent in the backyard — the beauty of Florida in winter!

Pinterest was a godsend throughout the planning process — I pinned things I loved, from my florals to our wedding cake and groom’s cake, and simply showed them to our vendors. It was my first practical use of Pinterest! As the wedding quickly approached, I became obsessed with personalization — I wanted the day to be unmistakably ours. To that end, we wrote our own vows, made our wedding favors in my momma’s kitchen, and filled the reception space with ‘us’. One of our favorite personal touches was our place-themed food stations. Chris is from Oklahoma, I’m from Florida, and we met in Austin, Texas, so we had three food stations serving food representative of each of those places. Another favorite personal touch was quote cards that we placed on each table at the reception. Chris is an Army officer stationed in Georgia and I work in Washington, D.C., so we’ve spent most of the past year and a half apart and have written at least a hundred letters and cards to each other. We combed through all of them, and had our favorite quotes printed on cards for each guest table. At the last minute, we also incorporated a few DIY projects executed by Chris, like painted metal letters of our now-shared last name, a hand-drawn chalkboard with our hashtag (#happynewakers), and pine-sprig based centerpieces for the cocktail tables.

Two of the most special moments of the day were my first dance with Chris and the dance with my dad. Chris and I instantly knew which song we wanted to dance to, “If It Wasn’t For Texas” by George Strait. I’ll always remember two-stepping across the dance floor with him and hearing the best line of the song, “I wouldn’t be standing right here right now, if it wasn’t for Texas.” We owe everything to the wonderful year we spent growing love in Austin, and it turned out to be a perfect choice for our first dance. Prior to the wedding, I spent an entire evening listening to finalists for the father-daughter song, crying the whole time. I chose “You’ve Got a Friend” by James Taylor and surprised my dad with the choice. It was such a winner to him that we had to cut the dance a little short because we were crying too much!

Lastly, something, somehow, will inevitably go “wrong,” so let it and revel in the story you’ll always have to tell! For us, it was our favors. We chose to make fudge. For years both of my grandmothers made fudge at Christmastime to give out to family and friends, so we decided to combine the recipes and give it a shot ourselves. We must’ve made sixteen batches of fudge, a labor of love mostly by my mom and her best friend. The glitch was the cooling process — the Florida winter temperatures were too warm for the fudge to set properly. So, at 11 pm Chris, our maid of honor, best man, and I packed all the fudge in the car to take to my grandparents’ extra fridges to try again! The next day the fudge still hadn’t quite set up, but we spent hours packaging 200 boxes of still semi-gooey fudge, laughing all the way.

A Wedding That Brings Gatsby Glamour Outdoors

We love a bride that takes wedding risks – and this lady right here did just that when she booked Kurtz Orchards as her wedding venue before ever setting her sight on it in person. And oh are we glad she grabbed it up when she did because it was host to one glam Gatsby-inspired soiree. Ooh La La Designs and KJ and Co. are key players in making our Monday mighty fine and with Andrew Mark and Raw Media capturing it all, this joy isn’t leaving anytime soon – see it all in our Vault this way!

From the Bride… We can’t tell you how happy we are with our wedding! From the moment we got engaged we knew we wanted a unique outdoor location. When we stumbled upon Gracewood Estates (online) in the winter time we knew it would be perfect. With very few dates left and having never even visited the venue, we booked our date during the winter for the following year in summer of 2015. When we decided to visit the venue on Mother’s Day, not only was Gracewood Estates everything we hoped it would be and more, but picturing our wedding day and showing our families where we would be getting married the following year, made that Mother’s Day truly special for us.

While planning our wedding we knew that we wanted certain vintage and Gatsby-like elements, so we ended up hiring a wonderful New Orleans-inspired band (Patrick Tevlin Band) that really delighted our guests and got them to dance. The men wore tuxedos and the bridesmaids wore cream cocktail dresses to complement the overall gold and cream coloured theme. We really wanted the wedding day to be elegant, fun and light hearted. So we kept our ceremony short and breezy by having it outdoors in the orchard lined with pear trees. Getting married outdoors felt like something out of story book. A few of our favourite moments from the wedding day include spending time with my father on the porch before walking down the aisle. It’s a moment I’ll always cherish. Followed by walking down the aisle to the live instrumental version of a song we always dance to at home. Now every time we hear our wedding song it brings us back to our wedding day and we continue to dance. Waking up in the morning and going outside prior to arriving at the venue was also truly peaceful. It seemed like no one was on the streets nearby as the birds chirped and the sun came out.

Being able to incorporate certain details throughout the day also made everything even more special. I wore my grandmothers necklace for the ceremony and carried a handkerchief my mother gave me when I was younger. Vas gifted me beautiful blue earrings as my “something blue” and I gave him a Hugo Boss watch so that he may wear it and think of the special memories years from now. During the ceremony we also gave both of our mother’s a rose to signify how important they are to us. Throughout the cocktail hour and reception we displayed photos of relatives that could not be with us and I attached my grandmother’s vintage rose pin to my flowers as a way to keep her close to me.

We couldn’t have had such a beautiful day without the help of our wonderfully talented vendors. Our florist Kelly (Ooh La La Designs) was always so helpful and a true visionary when it came to designing the wedding and the overall concept we envisioned. She came up with ideas we hadn’t even thought of and brought everything to life. Our band was a joy to listen to during the cocktail hour as we strolled through the gardens and sat down to dinner. They really made us feel like we traveled back in time to a different era. The decor and the rentals that were used also contributed to making every little detail special and unique for us. Our guests enjoyed being able to use fans and parasols as they strolled through the property.

We are very happy that our photographers were able to capture all of this and more throughout the day, because without them we definitely would not have seen moments like our parent’s laughing and (finally) relaxing after the ceremony or dancing up a storm later on in the evening. We couldn’t have planned any part of the day without the wonderful help of our coordinator Laura Scott (Tula Events) who was with us every step of the day and made sure everything ran smoothly and on time. The lovely ladies at Gracewood Estates also ensured all of our needs were met and went above and beyond when it came time to work on all the details. Our wedding video was also something that meant a lot to us, being able to hear the vows and all the sights and sounds of the day is something that we’ll cherish forever.

One thing we recommend to all future brides and grooms is to not worry about the small stuff. Things happen on your wedding day that may not go according to plan, but in the end, no one else notices and those small things won’t matter. Years from now you’ll look back and laugh.

Our photographers took us away during the sunset and it not only made for some beautiful photos, but it gave us some time to enjoy the fact that we just got married. As we look back on our wedding day we can’t believe that it’s over and we’re thankful for everyone that was apart of it and made it so special.

Inspiration for the Prettiest Floral Bridal Shower with Chinet

Two things that will never go out of style are gorgeous blooms and delicious sweets. Mix these gems together and you have the makings of a stunning bridal shower infused with the easy elegance of Chinet® Cut Crystal® products. For this party we looked to the ladylike beauty of florals, a well dressed table paired with a few DIYs and a pretty takeaway for guests. Read up for simple tips to infuse your next event with elegance and charm.

Pick a Theme

For this shower we decided to mix pretty feminine touches with the ease of a more casual place setting. Neutral linen chairs and a gorgeous wooden table got a feminine lift with floral prints, doilies, and piles of pale pink ribbons. We added Chinet® Cut Crystal® premium coordinating tableware for a fuss-free setup to complement this elegant look.

Chinet® Cut Crystal® products make it easier than ever to set a gorgeous, sophisticated table. With their line of fully coordinated disposable tableware, your place settings will be chic and crazy easy to clean up without the stress of having to do dishes. We especially love that part! Plus, you can entertain guilt-free because the entire line is recyclable.

Gussied Up Place settings

Place settings were so easy to customize and quick as can be, with Chinet® Cut Crystal® plates layered on top of custom calligraphy menu doilies on simple floral paper placemats. Pro tip – sneak a bit of double stick tape under each corner of the placemat so they don’t go flying all over the table!

The Prettiest Calligraphy Menu

It’s surprisingly easy to get a menu printed onto doilies! We worked with calligrapher Becca Joas to write up a beautiful menu for our shower (it fit in a 7.5″ diameter circle). Then we printed the menu on clear, full sheet printable labels, cut them out with scissors and popped them onto paper doilies. Placed under Chinet® Cut Crystal® plates, they make for a stunning place setting.

The easiest centerpiece

Let your dessert take center stage! We gathered 7-9 clear raised cake stands (some were even pillar candle stands) to put our pretty desserts on for a real centerpiece statement. Then we wove a pink linen runner through the stands and looped a few spools of pale pink ribbon around the bases – voila! Plus, you’ll save space with no need for a separate buffet table.

A Fun Bouquet Bar

For our Bouquet station, we grabbed the cutest rattan bar cart and filled it with tin flower buckets. Some were white already and a few others we did up with a quick coat of white spray paint. Some of the buckets were tall enough that we needed to fill the bottom with a bit of wet floral foam before we added our stems. You’ll need more stems than you think to fill each bucket so buy more than you think you’ll need.

We made sure to grab a variety of greenery, smaller flowers, and larger blooms to choose from. Don’t forget pretty paper to wrap with, along with scissors and ribbon! A gorgeous oversize sign from Becca Joas was the finishing touch.

Throwing a sophisticated shower with elegance and ease is a whole lot easier with the help of  the Chinet® Cut Crystal® line of coordinating products. Their clear design and elegant swirl pattern perfectly match any theme or décor so you can throw a gorgeous party and leave the hassle free cleanup to them. And if you’re on the hunt for even more inspiration, be sure to checkout Chinet® for the perfect decor, craft and recipe ideas!

Mix-and-Match Style Inspiration For Your ‘Maids

Long gone are the days of matchy-matchy being the only way to dress your bridesmaids. It’s 2016, and when it comes to ‘maid style the options are absolutely endless. Need a little inpso to get you started? Melissa Jill and her vendor crew are here to help. Scroll on for mismatched gowns, insane florals, and of course, a handsome groom for good measure.

Colors

From Melissa Jill PhotographyMore and more often recently, I see brides and their bridesmaids expressing their individuality with beautifully mismatched dresses, hair styles, and accessories. I find this trend so inspiring, and wanted to reflect and encourage it with a photo shoot that incorporated a fresh, youthful aesthetic.

The beautiful gowns, provided by Bella Bridesmaid in Phoenix, were my staring point. We chose an eclectic mix-and-match style to pull together gray and navy tones. The pink and coral shades in the gorgeous florals provided by Carte Blanche Design offset the neutral colors of the gowns perfectly. Together, the gowns and flowers work amazingly to create a fun and fresh color-palette for spring and summer! The hairstyles were crafted by Emily Hughes to be soft but elegant, and Michelle Wright styled the makeup for a natural look that is both flattering and current.

I’m delighted with the way this styled shoot came together into something beautiful and one-of-a-kind! I hope it inspires brides and bridesmaids to play with shades, textures, and styling to create a unique look that is all their own!

Designer Dress. A-List Florist. Celebrity Photographer. This Manhattan Wedding is a Must-See.

No one does a wedding like New York City — just look at this Manhattan affair. With a gorgeous Lihi Hod dress from Gabriella New York, a navy velvet Chanel clutch, lush florals from the talents at Putnam And Putnam, and a Momofuku Milk Bar, this day was as chic and iconic as the city itself. And it was captured to perfection thanks to Trent Bailey Studio. Head to The Vault to fall in love with it all!

From The Bride…Shay proposed during a ski trip to Utah. We were with a group of friends – all of whom were experienced skiers or snowboarders. For me – it was my first time skiing ever. On the first day we went out, I spent most of the time on the bunny hill and really enjoyed it, and bragged to Shay that I wasn’t falling at all and was ready for the real mountain. Shay obliged, but said “if you’re not falling, you’re not trying!”. I was sure that I was just a freakishly good at skiing, and went confidently down the mountain and of course found myself falling non-stop, until the last fall when I felt something happen to my knee. I was sick from it, and all our friends and Shay convinced me that my knee was probably just “bruised” and that we should slowly go down and then we could go home. After finally making it down and some hot chocolate, we drove back through the valley and stopped at a pretty snow covered campsite. I was certainly not in the mood to get out of the car, but didn’t want to be the party pooper and joined the group. Shay and I went off to a beautiful tree and snow canopied clearing, and it was there that he got down on one knee and proposed. Needless to say, it was the last thing I expected after falling down the mountain, but immediately cried tears of joy and said yes! I forgot about the knee until the next day when it ballooned to the size of a cantaloupe. That week I found out that I completely tore my ACL, and needed surgery. Long story short – I tore my ACL and then Shay proposed an hour later. It was definitely one of the best days of my life.

We wanted our wedding to feel unique, personal, and we wanted everyone to have a good time. We started looking the NY area and the Bowery Hotel was the third and final place we looked. It was a no brainer – the space felt really special, beautiful, and timeless. And it was six blocks from our apartment, and there was something really awesome about the fact that our wedding was in our neighborhood. That made it feel distinctly personal.

The design at the Bowery is already amazing, and so we did not need to do much more to dress it up beyond flowers. Putnam & Putnam was our first choice among the florists we looked at, and their prior work was inspiration in itself. Their aesthetic and vision is exactly in line with our taste, and so it was easy to really let them take have at it. Everything was stunning, particularly the candlelit backdrop where we said our vows.

A lot of the inspiration for other details were driven by our shared history. Our wedding DJ was DJ Baby Blu – he DJs at Brooklyneer on Friday and Saturday nights and we always have a blast dancing there. Long before we were engaged we both said to each other that he should play at our wedding. Our wedding cake was Momofuku Birthday Cake – the same cake that I got for Shay for his 30th birthday and we both said then that it would be the cake at our wedding (and it provided inspiration for our friends’ wedding too!). The recessional that the musicians played was from Hans’ Zimmer’s “You’re So Cool (part of the soundtrack of one of our favorite movies – True Romance). Our photographer worked at a friend’s wedding and produced amazing, dreamlike photos for them. My hair and make-up was done by Mala – the same woman who has done my hair (and my sister’s) for the last ten years. Our favors were photos from the photobooth Mashbooth – this was such an easy decision since we can never resist a photobooth.

What also made the wedding really special was our ceremony. Our friend Laura Goode officiated. She is a writer, poet, and filmmaker, and she worked with us and our parents for months to put together a really thoughtful and personal ceremony. She translated our relationship beautifully, and our guests couldn’t stop talking about it. We are so lucky she agreed to help us out.

We are not the most DIY of people – although we did a lot of planning ourselves and Amanda at the Bowery did the rest of the heavy lifting (and she did an amazing job, as did the rest of the staff there!). The most tangible DIY element was the wedding programs – our friend Lucy sent us a template and I played around with it to make it our own, and printed them at Paper Presentation on 17th street. The morning of the wedding I was still threading the programs with the ribbon and had to enlist my mom, sister, and friends to help finish them!

For me, walking through the doors and down the aisle with my father was so surreal. It was absolutely stunning to see our closest family and friends in one room, and to have Shay at the end the aisle. Holding hands and saying our vows was the best part of all. And funnily enough, another favorite moment was when we accidentally forgot to exchange rings so we did so right after the ceremony with our parents and siblings circled around us.

The party was a blast and to this day we keep hearing stories from our friends about their versions of the night. And to top it off, we had our friends drinking a special cocktail named “if you’re not falling, you’re not trying”. Many of them were trying very hard that night.

Advice:
– Try to keep it personal! And it doesn’t need to involve a lot of DIY to be personal if that’s not your jam.
– There’s inspiration beyond pinterest! I actually found Putnam & Putnam and my dress designer (Lihi Hod) on instagram.
– Something will go wrong but you probably won’t know, so don’t worry. It’s beyond your control.
– Have fun with it! It’s only one day and the most important thing is the marriage. Planning is a good chance to figure out how you navigate through some difficult situations together.

Peek Inside a Fashion Blogger’s Bridal Shower Brunch!

To say we’re obsessed with Steph of SS LIFE + STYLE is putting it lightly. She’s one of our favorite ladies in the blogosphere and today we’re lucky enough to peek inside her insanely pretty Toronto bridal shower. Inside the gallery from annawithlove you’ll find dreamy tablescapes, cascading florals, and a dessert bar worth drooling over. Want to get the look? Read on for Steph’s tips to create a photo-worthy bridal shower.

From SS LIFE + STYLE… Hosted by my mother Voula, we celebrated my bridal shower at my favorite restaurant in Toronto, Colette Grand Café, on a sunny spring morning in April. I couldn’t help myself but to get involved with planning my shower (even though it isn’t always customary to do so), but any excuse to plan something pretty with my favorite vendors and I am in! Blame it on the blogger in me, but creating and styling pretty vignettes is just pure happiness! Since our upcoming wedding will be all black and white, this was my time to have fun with feminine details and a rose palette.

Upon arrival, guests were greeted with mimosas – fitting for a bridal brunch! The light poured in to the windows of the pavilion on the gorgeous sunny morning, illuminating the room.

Each guest was seated at long harvest marble tables, laced with calligraphy place cards and customized menus to match the invitations created by Paper & Poste. The florist, Lisa Gray of Sweet Woodruff, created a gorgeous tablescape of candles, peonies, garden roses and foliage. I love that Lisa of Sweetwoodruff pulled inspiration for the décor from the invitations created by Paper & Poste – including my love for blooms, rose gold and grey. We took advantage of the beautiful bouffet wall unit inside the pavilion and incorporated it into the décor, styling my favorite photos of my fiancé Neal and I, printed in black and white to personalize the space. Lisa brought the shelf to life with gorgeous, elaborate arrangements in rose gold vases, which gave it such a lush feel.

Tips for Creating a Photo-Worthy Bridal Shower

Fresh Blooms | Flowers are a must! It makes any vignette that much more photogenic and adds natural beauty and fragrance. How to incorporate it: centerpieces, giveaways, cake topper, flower crowns, garlands – go wild! No one will ever say, “there were too many flowers” because there is no such thing! *Wink*

All in the details… | Paying attention to the little details like place cards, menu etc. can really personalize your event. Take up a calligraphy class with your bridesmaids and make a fun night out of creating your shower place cards, or find cute a printable online!

Just the Right Light | Choose a venue or space that has a lot of natural light and windows for your event. This will aid in better photography and make all of your décor and hard work look gorgeous!

Something SweetYour cake or sweet table can be used just as much as part of your décor, as it is to feed your guests! I have always loved naked cakes and macaron towers, but you can include any kind of sweets (maybe it’s homemade pies with cute toppers, or cake in a jar with glitter spoons etc.). I kept all of the sweets white to fit in with the décor and personally reflect my style, and requested my favorite flowers to decorate around them. They weren’t just something to eat; they were also pieces of art to look at!

From Sweet Woodruff… We wanted the look to be soft, sophisticated and feminine so we started with a simple and muted colour palette of white, blush and grey. We incorporated natural oatmeal and blush colored linens to complement the beautiful French Bistro setting.

For the tablescape we scattered delicate glass and rose gold bud vases filled with soft romantic spring flowers like lilac, peonies, roses and pieris down the table.

To complete the look we layered lush garden-inspired arrangements in the bookshelf as a focal point.

Guests enjoyed a delicious three-course brunch – a choice of quinoa pudding or salad for appetizer, followed by a choice of lemon ricotta pancakes, omelet or grilled turkey club on a pretzel bun. A sweet ending included fresh fruit and fine petite cakes. Following this was a delightful moment with the firecracker candle on the gorgeous “naked cake” created by The Wedding Cake Shoppe. We went with a carrot cake with cream cheese icing – my favorite, accompanied by delicious vanilla macaroons, plucked off the two towers on the sweet table made in-house by Colette.

In between foamy latte sips, mimosa clinks and brunch chatter – my mother, who invited my mother-in-law and myself up with her, so sweetly thanked everyone for coming and offered a bit of wisdom with a toast. My mother (also known as my “momager” – thank you, Kris Jenner) has been with me every step of the way in my wedding process, always making it enjoyable and helping me put together all the details. The shower was our day to just relax and soak it all in.

My groom-to-be, Neal, popped in at the end, with beautiful roses for both of our mothers and myself – a gentleman always! Sweet Woodruff also set up a beautiful “flower market” inspired station for guests to take away as gratitude, tied with a thank you note from myself, created by Paper & Poste. My love for blooms (especially Parisian flower markets) runs deep and I wanted to lace this through every detail of the shower, from the invites to the tablescape to the giveaways.

It meant so much to me to have all the women I love in one room, taking time out of their day to shower me. I felt truly grateful, especially to my sweet friend, Anna of annawithlove photography (who is 7 months pregnant at that!), for capturing the day for me in such a beautiful way.
