From Black Sheep Filmworks“We are excited about our fireworks show! Room drapes, lounge, macaroons, designer tux, TWO dresses, Jimmy Choo shoes, cufflinks, watches, Man Crates, and Kate Spade gifts, the cigar bar, signature cocktail, afterglow menu, hip-hop violinist, and DJ Felli-Fel, but most of all… WE ARE GETTING MARRIED!!!”….These were a few of the many things that Aja and Jason were excited about as they filled in their wedding questionnaire prior to their ahhmazing Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain Wedding fête! They wanted nothing more than to spoil their guests with delicious food, great music and cocktails as they celebrated their new life as husband and wife. Striking, modern design graced everything from the invitations, to the lounge decor, to the macaroon boxes, in hues of black, white and silver. Hip-hop violinist, Josh Vietti, played during the ceremony and cocktail hour, much to the guests’ delight. DJ Felli-Fel emceed the reception, and the dance floor was packed! Aja appeared in her second gorgeous gown during the grand entrance to rousing applause. Tucson experienced a tremendous thunderstorm during the reception, but the skies cleared for a bit, and not even Mother Nature was going to put a damper on the fireworks show. Aja and Jason stood in the rain, under a Ritz-Carlton umbrella, as the sky filled with color. Guests enjoyed an afterglow party, with late night bites, and celebrated into the wee hours. Modern, sophisticated and rather magical…Cheers to the Greers!

3 Dresses, A Dream Chateau, And Happily Ever After

If you’ve got a weakness for designer fashion, just wait until you lock eyes with this wedding. In Asian tradition, the bride normally changes dresses a few times during the day…and we decided to split the day into three portions with a dress for each; the ceremony, the reception, and dancing,” said the bride. Hey Lovely Makeup worked their beauty magic, Jenny Yoo dressed the ‘maids, and the incredible Kayla Barker and Brighter Lights Media captured the fairytale day from beginning to end.

From the Bride…Ever since I was a little girl living in Saigon, I always dreamt about my big day. Back then, when someone got married, the whole village would come out into the street and cheer on the bride on her way to the wedding. I imagined that those girls must have felt like a celebrity with everyone yelling compliments at them and I looked forward to the day it would be me.

When I was 12, my family moved from the bustling city streets to the rolling hills of Texas. The next several years were a struggle for me. I never quite fit in and I longed to leave and move back to a big city but I couldn’t seem to find a way out until 2010 when I tried my chances on Match.com and met Jason who was living in England at the time. We’ve been inseparable ever since. Nobody understands me like he does, and he knew I’d been planning my dream wedding for years. So when we got engaged, he promised me he would make my dreams come true.

In Asian tradition, the bride normally changes dresses a few times during the day. We decided to dispense with the traditional tea ceremony and so we decided to split the day into 3 portions with a dress for each; the ceremony, the reception, and dancing.

It first became real when we took a trip together to Dallas and chanced upon the Carolina Herrera Bridal Boutique in Highland Park Village. I remembered a dress from a previous collection and the moment I tried it on, Jason told me “That’s it, that’s the one, that’s your wedding dress.” Carolina Herrera once said “A wedding dress is both intimate and personal for a woman- it must reflect the personality and style of the bride.” With cherry blossoms embroidered into the front and around the fringes of the veil, paired with the cherry blossom hair-ornament I bought from Japan, my dress makes me feel proud to be Asian and drove our ceremony to be inspired by hanami, the Japanese tradition of dining under the blossoming trees.

For my second dress, we chose a beautiful Dolce and Gabbana dress that Jason had bought me as a gift when he moved to be with me from England in 2012. I love theatre and the arts and the lavish red velvet reminded us of the Royal Opera House. We found a pair of Dolce and Gabbana gold cage heeled shoes to match it and these became our theme for the reception: theatrical reds, golds, and cages filled with roses.

Because Jason is half Spanish, I decided to look for a flamenco inspired dress for the dancing. I searched online and came across a runway piece a couturier in Seville, the home of flamenco, called Jose Cañavate. He had made it as a one off piece, only buying enough material for the one dress, so he spent months trying to get the floral organza remanufactured until one day he happened across a bolt of the original material in a small fabric store in Madrid. In all the dress took a year to make and I completed the look with a Spanish hair comb and Dolce and Gabbana cinderella shoes.

From the start, we planned to have a black-tie wedding so Jason bought a Balenciaga tuxedo, but after seeing my wedding dress for the first time he decided to find something that would represent his English heritage more as well. So he had a morning suit made to measure by Ralph Lauren.

With all the dresses underway and inspirations in our mind, we set about looking for a venue (and a date!) and after searching far and wide we found Chateau Cocomar in Houston to be unique in its old world French exterior and wide open interior spaces gave us the canvas to explore our imaginations.

The event was filled with personal touches and design details. Jason wasn’t just going to make my dreams come true – he went above and beyond. He sketched out many of our ideas for key features in the wedding, including the “bird-cage” we sat under, the centerpieces on the tables, the layout of the venue and he even hand wrote and embellished the place-cards. He also drew and designed my wedding rings himself and had them made by the same jeweler as my engagement ring, Boodles of London. In return I chose his ring, a platinum band from Harry Winston engraved with “Happy wife, Happy life.”

When we moved to California, I understood that none of this would ever have been possible if we hadn’t lived in Texas. We’re proud to call Texas home and decided to show our love and appreciation in the form of a few decorative details for all our guests to see. We have both spend a huge amount of time and effort on this wedding and there has been no shortage of drama; vendors dropping out, moving homes (twice) and even the venue getting flooded a week before the wedding. All of these challenges brought us closer together, made our love stronger and made us all the more proud and happy to see it all come together on the day.

5 Stunning Paint Colors that Will Totally Transform Your Kitchen

With so many gorgeous kitchen paint options these days, it can be hard to pick a favorite. Sometimes we’re all about a classic white kitchen and other days, a dark-hued number steals the show. It’s an ever changing love list. But with a little help from Behr + Home Depot, we’ve rounded up 5 stunning contenders. From just a hint of hue to a bold, statement island, check out 5 paint colors that will totally transform your kitchen cabinets.

Just a Hint of Color

Love the idea of color but worried about committing? Try a pale bluish gray that gives just a hint of hue without giving your neutral loving ways a heart-attack. Get the look with Behr French Silver.

Classic, Crisp White

White is the most classic of paint choices for kitchens and truly works for all styles of home. From modern, to country, you can’t go wrong with a gorgeous white kitchen. Get the look with Behr Ultra Pure White.

A Bright, bold Island

This jade green is just about the coolest island color we’ve come across. If you’re part of that I love color but want to stay classic, consider giving the island a pop of hue. It’s another genius work-around for the color commit-a-phobes. Get the look with Behr Crown Jewel.

Singing the Blues

Navy is having a major moment in kitchens. From islands to full kitchens in pretty shades of blue, this color can still feel classic and stately while adding a splash of excitement. Get the look with Behr Midnight in the Tropics.

The Dark Side

From tuxedo kitchens (uppers in white, lower cabinets in black) to all-out cooking spaces painted the yummiest shade of black, this dark and glamorous trend is undeniably chic. Plus it pairs beautifully with warm metallics like gold and brass. Get the look with Behr Black Smoke.

A Surprise Waterfront Proposal

Get ready to grab some tissues, because this sweet lakeside proposal from Brittany Mahood is sure to get the waterworks flowing. It’s thoughtful, sincere, and totally the kind of love story that’ll make your heart sing, and we’ve got it all waiting for you in The Vault!

From the Bride… Even after three and a half years together, the proposal came as a complete surprise! And as someone that loves surprises, no matter how much I try to ‘expect the unexpected,’ I was still completed fooled.

In a lot of ways Jordin and I different; he couldn’t care less about sports as I paint my face for the Super Bowl, his ideal evening would be spent around a campfire with close friends as I would be in a crowded restaurant on my way to catch a show. He’s enduring and thoughtful, I’m impassioned and affectionate. But when I met him, I knew I’d met a man that was going confidently in the direction of his dreams, as I was with mine.

It was winter in Manitoba, where the snow and ice stay until May, and he helped me get my car out of a snowbank after a party. The next day, I was elated from our time together and tried to think of a clever and coy way to connect with Jordin again. Fibbing a little bit, I texted him saying I had used his get-out-of-the-snowbank trick that morning to free my car from snow piled against a curb. When, in reality, my car was parked on my snow-free driveway. But it worked! We were quickly immersed in each others’ lives, as his younger sister was already a close friend of mine before Jordin and I officially met. They say ‘when you know, you know’ and we knew, undoubtedly.

Having a best friend that’s also an incredible photographer has given me many opportunities to see behind the scenes at shoots, trek through trails to find the best light, and impromtu posing to use the last shots on a film roll. So I didn’t think anything of it when Brittany asked me join her on an overnight trip to shoot an engagement session a few hours from home. As we packed up, she told me about the couple we were going to meet, I was just glad to go on a mini-vacay with my best friend.

When we arrived at Steep Rock, along Lake Manitoba in the early evening, we started to explore the area in preparation for the ‘engagement shoot’ taking place the next day. I kept thinking ‘this couple is so lucky, this place is beyond amazing!’ We walked along the cliffs and the trails, continually saying ‘we can’t believe this place,’ such beauty. Soon we spotted a picnic along the cliffs and thinking it belonged to someone else, I kept walking along the trail but Brittany turned and walked right towards it! After a moment I followed her and finally realized what was going on when I saw Jordin walking towards me, wearing his best suit, playing our song. I’ll never forget the feeling in that moment as my eyes went from his to the ring; it was overwhelming in all the most incredible ways.

Each sense was filled to the brim with pure joy because all my favorite things were happening simultaneously: feeling the warm sun and fresh breeze on my cheeks, catching the scent of Jordin’s cologne mixed with the fresh flowers while hearing the soft waves as the background rhythm while the man of my dreams was sharing his deepest, truest love. If I had all the time in the world to orchestrate every aspect of my own proposal, it couldn’t have come close to this amazing surprise.

The ‘yes’ moment transitioned seamlessly to an engagement session. Brittany and Jordin had taken care of every aspect: beautiful dresses to choose from, complimentary jewelry, nail files and polish, champange! I don’t know how I stopped shaking long enough to put the dress on! Brittany captured the overwhelmingly joyful emotions perfectly, I still get a rush when I relive it through the photos.

We spent the rest of the evening on and in the water, in complete awe of the scenery and how every piece of the plan had fallen into perfect place. Jordin had a rented a cabin nearby, that’s where we crashed at the end of it all and relived each moment together again and again; with wine, laughter and unstoppable smiles.

This Adventure-Loving Duo Tied the Knot in Greece and It Was Awesome

Let’s talk about just how amazing this destination wedding is, shall we? Because when it comes to drop-dead gorgeous soirees with style for miles, this.is.it.  Think colorful florals from Betty Flowers, black and white striped table linens and one of the most breathtaking ceremony + reception spots everAll planned + designed by the geniuses at Tie The Knot In Santorini-Weddings & Events and captured in beautiful images by Thanasis Kaiafas, give your weekend the pretty it needs in THE VAULT.

From the Bride…David and I met in college—on the very first night of my freshman year, to be exact. Though our relationship wouldn’t seriously begin until a couple of years later, he made an indelible impression on me that night. I instantly recognized in him what was in me too: a pioneering spirit, boredom with convention and a yearning for authenticity, and an untamable creative streak.

After six years of being married-without-being-married, we got engaged, and were faced with the decision of what our perfect version of a wedding would look like.

David is the owner of a mindful travel media company (shameless husband plug; is that a thing?). His obsession since childhood, travel is also his creative medium; the results of his adventures are totally brilliant works of writing and stunning photographs.

I’m a Simplified Living expert and owner of the professional organizing company Live Simply by Annie. I help people to edit and organize their spaces and lives, removing both physical and emotional clutter, and creating beautiful environments and systems that support their wellbeing.

Both of us long ago eschewed convention and the notion that there is a “right way” to live, and choose, instead, to follow our bliss and live our true purposes. Our wedding had to follow suit. It would have to include an element of adventure. It would have to be without fuss and without stress. And it would have to be a stylish affair.

It would need to be a completely beautiful occasion in a jaw-dropping and magical location, with absolutely nothing more than the essential elements, and something that felt unabashedly true to who we are as people and as a couple—what, like that’s so much to ask for?

The realization of that vision was a private ceremony at Canaves Oia Suites in Santorini, Greece, planned and styled to utter perfection by Maria of Tie The Knot Santorini, and captured by our ridiculously talented photographer, Thanasis Kaiafas. (Note: both of these individuals are the reason why our wedding was as spectacular and memorable as it was. We are fully obsessed with them, and cannot sing their praises loudly enough or recommend them more highly.)

At noon, we stood on a private balcony and recited vows, exchanged rings, and became husband and wife; the exquisite caldera view sweeping underneath and all around us.

It was our deepest desires realized, the ultimate marriage of exploration and excitement and essentialism, and so much more joyful than we imagined it could be.

Style Meets Sand for this Destination Wedding in Tulum

I’ve always been a fan of beachy destination weddings but just can’t let go of my love for elegance, and let’s be honest, many times style and sand just don’t mix. However, this Mexican wedding begs to differ. With Destination Weddings Tulum orchestrating and Sean Cook capturing all the chic beach beauty, it’s the perfect mix for my books. See it all in our Vault right this way!

From the Bride… After our first visit to Tulum, we instantly fell in love with the calming energy, delicious food, hospitable locals, and all the natural beauty that makes this Caribbean paradise so unique.

When we began thinking about our wedding, we knew we wanted to incorporate travel and adventure, as these had become a foundation of our relationship. We also knew we wanted something small and intimate, and a place all our closest friends and family would love. Tulum checked all the boxes and helped in making our decision an easy one. The idea of saying our vows surrounded by the white sands and turquoise waters, and then dancing the night away under the Caribbean stars with plentiful mezcal and guacamole sounded like an absolute fairytale to us. So that is what we decided to do!

After lots of research, we found a perfect private property right on the beach, and directly next to one of our favorite hotels, Sanara. The property accommodated exactly the size wedding we were looking for, and provided the perfect intimate setting.

Thinking back on our wedding weekend feels like a dream. As you get older and busier, it seems to be more and more difficult to get large groups together in one place, let alone together on a tropical vacation! We feel like the luckiest couple in the world to have shared this experience with our nearest and dearest. It was everything we imagined and so much more, truly a dream come true.

On the wedding day, my bridesmaids and I met at Sanara for some delicious breakfast smoothies, and then began getting ready in one of the stunning rooms. I love all the natural light, architectural elements, the rustic chic decor, and the beautiful back patio with the claw foot tub. I knew it would be the perfect place to spend the first half of the day getting ready. The boys had lunch at La Zebra right down the beach, and got ready together in one of the homes on the venue property. It was really fun knowing they were right next door, enjoying a relaxing day together just like us.

We decided we wanted to do a “first look” before the ceremony. After months of anticipation, I’ll never forgot seeing each other for the first time. I was so nervous, but as soon as we turned around and saw each other, the nerves melted away.

After the first look, we shot several photos around Sanara and then at Coqui Coqui.

Before the ceremony began, the entire wedding party got together and toasted with a glass of champagne. I imagined I would be so nervous in the final moments preparing to take that walk down the aisle – the walk you dream about your whole life – but standing there with both my parents by my side, with our dearest friends and family together in one of our favorite places on earth, all I felt was pure happiness and excitement.

For the ceremony decor, we wanted to keep things simple and highlight the backdrop of the beautiful turquoise water. We did a palm arch, wood benches, baskets draped with flowers along the aisle, and our favorite part – a table filled with coco frios for our guests to enjoy before the ceremony began.

With such an intimate wedding, it was important to us to incorporate as many close friends as we could. One of our good friends, Shannon, is an amazing DJ, so we ask if he would do our music (BEST wedding DJ ever!) His flawless taste in music made for the most amazing dance party I’ve ever been a part of, and we are eternally grateful! We also decided to have one of our best friends, Chad, officiate the ceremony – and are so happy we did. It really made our ceremony feel so special.

Our photographer, Sean Cook, we did not know before our wedding weekend. However, it became clear immediately that he was going to become our dear friend! Looking back, I can’t imagine having anyone else document our day. He is such a kind, funny, and talented soul. He really was so instrumental in not only shooting photos all weekend long, but helping out with any and everything along the way, and being there to guide us through the day and calm our nerves. He was truly spectacular and we are so thankful for him!

Our wedding coordinator, Barbara from Destination Weddings Tulum, was so wonderful. We told her exactly what we wanted and she made everything happen! Having her and the whole team from Destination Weddings Tulum around for our wedding weekend was extremely comforting and we are so very grateful to them for making our day perfect in every way.

We had cocktail hour around the pool and up on the rooftop deck, which had 360 degree views overlooking the jungle, pool and the ocean. We brought a Fuji Instax camera and set up a guest book table, which turned out to be so fun, and looking back through those photos provides endless memories. We chose local beers and wine, and had three flavors of margaritas available: regular, strawberry basil and pineapple jalapeno. And I’m still dreaming about those pineapple jalapeno margaritas!

The dinner and dancing was held in the open palmed area on the property’s grounds straight off of the beach. We wanted to keep the feel as fun and laid back as possible, big long wood tables with family style “Mexican BBQ” for dinner. Out of all the amazing food we’ve eaten in Tulum, this truly was one of the best meals we’ve ever had! Everything was so fresh and delicious. And so much food! We had tons of leftovers we were able to munch on for the rest of the week.

For dessert, we went with an elegant “naked” style three tiered cake and buckets of our favorite local paletas from Flor de Michoacan. The cold popsicles were the perfect cool treat after lots of dancing. Late night food came out around 10pm, delicious mini sopes and empanadas, so good!

Our amazing photographers set up a Photo Booth right off the dance floor, which turned out to be some of our favorite photos from the night! Apparently margaritas and photo booths go quite well together, and looking back at how much fun everyone was having in those photos is one of our greatest memories.

The decor was inspired by the rustic colonial chic design of Coqui Coqui. Wood tables, brass candle sticks, palm fronds, and white and green florals. We wanted an effortlessly elegant feel, nothing too over done.

Our vision was for there to be as many twinkling lights as we could manage, so we strung bistro lights throughout the palm trees above, hung lighted wicker lanterns, ran candles down the full length of the tables, and placed luminaries all around the property. We also hung white hammocks around the property and created a “lounge” area down on the beach so guests could get extra comfortable.

I spent a long time searching for the perfect dress without much luck. But as soon as I tried on this Inbal Dror, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It wasn’t what I initially imagined, but the beautiful lace, open back, and elegant train convinced me otherwise. And I love the way it turned out, perfectly complementing the location and decor. Joe went with a classic dark blue suit from Suit Supply. For the wedding party, we wanted to keep things classic as well, so we went with darker navy suits for the groomsmen and a mix of white lace dresses for the bridesmaid. After our first dance, I changed in to a different dress from Stone Cold Fox. The lightweight silk and breezy slits made dancing the night away so much fun.

The Dreamiest Springtime Ranch Wedding

Can we just talk about this tablescape? The florals, the candles, the draping, the everything. It’s the kind of table most of us would kill to snag a seat at, and I think we can all agree that Ashley and Justin’s guests were treated to the wedding celebration of a lifetime. Alexandra Kolendrianos planned, TOAST Santa Barbara designed the blooms, and Kristen Beinke photographed the entire event waiting in The Vault.

From Alexandra Kolendrianos… Ashley Dorris and Justin were married at El Montecito Presbyterian Church in Montecito on April 16th. The intimate church was filled with their closest family and friends. The altar took the center stage as they said their vows in front of a gorgeous table filled with lush garlands of greenery, white floral and a multitude of column candles.

After they said their “I do’s”, guests were shuttled to the upper estate lawn at San Ysidro Ranch where they were greeted with plentiful hors d’oeuvres and drinks and a stunning view! Guests mingled to the sound of a Spanish guitarist in the background. All were invited to take individual bud vases filled with floral that included their names and table numbers, tied in silk ribbon, as they made their way to the entrance of the tent.

An incredible 10-piece band greeted the guests into the gorgeous celebration. The tabletops were filled with abundant floral in the white, green and blush tones. Gold candelabras and candlesticks mixed in with taupe candles to create more warmth and candle light to the tent. Each individual place setting included a letter pressed menu and napkins that were tied with hand dyed silk ribbon with sprigs of olive and rosemary.

All guests dined on a decadent 3-course meal, danced to a super high energy band and were surrounded by gorgeous floral, fabric and lighting as they celebrated the union of Ashley and Justin!

Feel like You’re on Vacation from the Comfort of your own Kitchen

If artist and jet setter Gray Malin is involved, we just know the result will be anything but ordinary. And when it comes to his latest home revamp, it’s down right EXTRAordinary. With the help of Homepolish creative director, Orlando Soria, Gray crafted a kitchen that gives off all the fabulous beach club vibes and mixes in some of his signature artwork too. Take the full tour captured by Nicholas Scarpinato right here.

How would you describe the overall vibe of your kitchen?

I love to entertain, and since the kitchen is always the place to be when people are over, I wanted to make sure it evoked a welcoming relaxed feel. Overall, our home decor style is sophisticated nautical with a heavy emphasis on great artwork in each room.

What came first, the color palette or the artwork?

Typically, I start with the artwork, but with this particular project, I started with the Navarro Round Table. I’ve always loved round tables as they’re so perfect for dinner parties, so finding the right table was the priority for this room. I typically am drawn to lighter colored wood and then spend more time on accessorizing it, but this table really offers a commanding presence with or without accents. It along with the artwork made for lovely palette of grey, browns and navy colors mixed with the two photographs on the wall.

Why did you choose this specific art piece for the kitchen?

When it comes to choosing pieces for my home, I tend to focus on two things: the color story I am trying to achieve and how the artwork makes me feel when I’m in that particular room. In the case of the kitchen, I was working with shades of blue and neutrals, which are both very calming to me. I wanted to continue with that relaxing feeling, so I opted to incorporate a large print of a beach aerial of mine named Ocean Rain, which I recently shot in Nantucket. Then, Capri da Luigi is quite literally one of my favorite beach clubs in the world, so it was an easy choice to incorporate into my favorite room.

We love your blue island! How did you decide on this hue?

When we first moved in we completely redid the kitchen to be navy and white. I grew up spending my summers off the coast of Lake Michigan and am clearly drawn to the water in my work. My husband and I are both naturally attracted to navy blue so nautical was something we could both agree on without hesitation.

Hardest part of redesigning a kitchen?

The hardest part probably is just getting it to where you want it. We moved into our home three years ago and immediately made a few updates; we were happy but certainly not finished. As we all know, unless you’re not hindered with a budget, you simply can’t do it all at once. To me, a house is like a great cake — it takes many layers of time-intensive preparation to present a beautiful final result that feels warm, inviting, and most importantly a reflection of your personal style. With that in mind, after three years of prep, it was time to add that final layer and I couldn’t be more pleased with the finished product.

Best Ever Vacation Spot?

I am completely awestruck by Cape Town, South Africa. It’s truly a beautiful country from its beaches to wildlife to wine country.. It’s a must for anyone’s bucket list. I was so taken with it, actually that I went back in February to explore more and without hesitation I can say that it lived up to what I remembered and then some.

Whimsical Brooklyn Wedding In The Middle of A Hurricane!

With an oncoming hurricane, some logistics had to be reworked a bit for this Brooklyn bash but the smiles and fun loving energy never, ever faded. Cynthia Chung went along with the wild ride, capturing all the laughter that this Bride and Groom brought with them – see our favorite moments below and more in our Vault right here!

From Cynthia Chung PhotographyNew York City got hit with some high winds that weekend because of Hurricane Joaquin but nothing stopped us. With a high energy and fun bridal party, a stylish bride and groom, nothing could dampen our day. We geared up and breezed through Grand Central and had the ceremony indoors at an adorable restaurant – which had an awesome vibe of comfort and cozy. Add in some crazy swing dancing, dinosaur wedding favors, dang delicious dinner, drinks and cupcakes – well, it was definitely a night to remember!!

From the Bride… Miles and I met in Brooklyn, and it’s where our life and love have grown together, so it was the only place we could see ourselves getting married that felt true to both of us. Our vision for our wedding was to have a good party, with good food, good music, and all of our favorite people by our side. Or as I deemed it “just north of an elopement”. What unfolded from that was an intimate affair with a vintage vibe and a lot of sentimental value throughout.

From the beginning the plan was to have a ceremony at a waterfront park in Brooklyn, officiated by one of my best friends, followed by a reception at Le Barricou, a restaurant that was a long-standing date night spot for Miles and I. And then to top it off, a stellar jazz band, because we often enjoy live music together in the city and wanted to share that with our guests. Of course… it wouldn’t have been OUR wedding if things had gone according to plan. Fast forward to the big day, a hurricane might be hitting New York, it’s windy and rainy, and we’re making a last minute relocation of our ceremony to the back of Le Barricou. Stressful… but as my mom put it, I was born during a hurricane and here I was getting married during a hurricane… so “there’s your sign”!

Lucky for us, Le Barricou was incredibly accommodating, and also happens to have a lovely skylight in their back room we could be married beneath. Before we knew it, we were mass texting our guests to show up an hour late at a new location, and the huge balloons that were supposed to serve as markers in the park had now become our altar decorations. And Cynthia, our most wonderful photographer, was quick on her feet in suggesting Grand Central as an alternate place for our photos, where she so patiently guided our quirky and wild bridal party through the masses like the pro she is. I’m so thankful for the people who rallied around us to make the last minute changes and decisions we had to make possible!

Like many brides do, I spent a lot of time on Pinterest – me against the internet – pining after pretty details, but also not wanting to do a ton of DIY projects. In the end we kept it simple. I made menus that had a mad-lib on the back which proved fun for our guests, a friend illustrated a cute wedding map for us, and we spray painted tiny dinosaurs gold to use on escort cards that doubled as favors (because Miles and I have dinosaur nicknames for each other). Beyond that, we relied on the decor of the restaurant and good company to set the mood for our reception, which was perfect for us.

And just like that, we were married! I’m confident that it was the combination of beauty and chaos that made it the PERFECT DAY. In the end, everything came together even better than we’d imagined, curveballs and all, and we wouldn’t have had it any other way!

A Real-Life Fairytale Wedding in a French Castle

When Australian couple, Nissa and Nick swooped up their guests for a destination wedding, it meant the adventure of a lifetime. I’m talking a wedding held at a French castle straight out of a classic fairytale. Nissa looked every bit the bride in a Galia Lahav gown, with makeup by Vata Beauty, and the always incredible Greg Finck captured the photographs that are certain to become treasured heirlooms.

From Greg Finck… Nissa and Nick are a sweet couple from Australia who had decided to plan their wedding in the scenic Gascony region of France. This region, between Bordeaux and Toulouse, is full of hidden gems, medieval castles, and amazing wineries.

Château de Lisse was the perfect backdrop for Nissa and Nick’s wedding. The venue is superbly blended with modern luxuries offering a unique opportunity to get married in a French traditional castle, with its own chapel, huge fireplace, beamed ceilings, and hallways adorned with armour.

Nissa and Nick had chosen to surround themselves with only their closest family and friends. The ceremony was held in the castle’s chapel, with beautiful floral design by Le Coeur Sauvage. The cocktail hour was al fresco on the castle terrace, before an elegant indoor dinner. The bride had brought her very own linen for the table, which was beautifully decorated with a flower garland.

A Beautifully Intimate City Hall Elopement

From The Great Romance PhotoWhat happens with a French boy & American girl both get dragged along by their friends to a divey tiki bar in San Francisco? The beginning of their beautiful love story! Emarie & Julien had their first date a few days later on a park bench with a view of the Golden Gate Bride, and most romantically – that is where he ended up proposing almost two years later. Elopements are our absolute favorite thing to photograph, and Julien & Emarie’s city hall nuptials were no different. Surrounded by family and closest friends, the couple said their I do’s in the city where they fell in love. We loved the sweet “little” details: from a handmade bouquet (made by a friend) to Emarie’s pastel blue heels & “borrowed” penny. Not much needs to be done when you’re getting married against such a stunning backdrop!

A Pastel Ballroom Wedding Covered Head to Toe in Florals

When it comes to a wedding, you can never have too many florals. Period. Just take a peek at this glamorous day designed in the hands of Brooke Keegan Special Events wtih White Lilac, and you’ll completely agree. The couple was surprised with this view at their reception, and in the words of the bride, “We felt as if we were entering a storybook. What a way to begin our lives together.” Kudos to The de Jaureguis duo and Cloudless Weddings for beautifully documenting every single bit.

From the Bride…

How did you meet?

Rick and I first met at a mutual friend’s wedding. Rick was the best man in the wedding and I was a guest. After the wedding reception, Rick and I ended up sharing a cab to the after party. We immediately hit it off and exchanged numbers. A few weeks later, Rick asked me on our first date to a Texas Rangers baseball game. Needless to say, weddings have always been special to us!

How did he propose?

Rick is a firm believer in the fact that an engagement should be a complete surprise. Well, he stood by his word. I always told him that when or if he ever proposed to make sure I was looking my best. That didn’t exactly happen, because he always thought it would take away from the surprise. At the time, Rick lived in Austin, Texas and I lived in Houston, Texas. He came in town one weekend to visit and arrived at my apartment before I got home from work. This wasn’t unusual. When I walked into my apartment there was an enormous beautiful flower arrangement on my dining room table. Right in front of the flower arrangement was two bridal magazines. A little post-it note was stuck to one magazine that read “finally”. I turned to him with a confused look as he said “you might need these”, as he got down on one knee and proposed. After the proposal, Rick told me I had one hour to get ready and that he had the entire night planned. As I was finishing up getting ready I heard a knock at my door. It was my parent’s, sister, and brother-in-law. We all went out to dinner to celebrate the proposal!

Tell us about your experience with the planning process?

The thought of planning a destination was very intimidating. Once I saw The Resort at Pelican Hill, I knew it would all be worth it. I could not have planned this wedding without the help of my wonderful mother, my husband, Heather from Brooke Keegan Special Events, and Dodi from White Lilac. Rick and I knew that we wanted our ceremony and reception to be beautiful and run smoothly but we also wanted it to be a lot of fun! Heather’s calmness and sweet-natured personality along with her knowledge of wedding planning helped our special day run smoothly. Dodi from White Lilac has an amazing ability to take a vision and run with it. During our meetings, his excitement about his ideas and plans was infectious. The band Impulse from West Coast Music brought the party. There was never a dull moment on the dance floor and that’s exactly what Rick and I wanted.

How was your wedding day experience?

Our wedding day was perfection. Each of us prepared for the big event separately with our best friends and family members. We decided to do a first look because we knew that neither of us would be able to hold it together if we saw each other for the first time walking down the aisle. We wanted to have an intimate and private moment together before we said our vows in front of everyone. The ceremony was magnificent. The day had been a little overcast and rainy and just before the ceremony began the sun came out shining its rays down on one of the most gorgeous venues you can imagine. We had Ricks long time minister and friend preside at the ceremony which made it very special. The rotunda looked magical draped in the white and cream fabric. The chandeliers glistened in the sunlight. Dodies’s signature rose petals down the aisle made the perfect invitation for me to walk down the aisle with my precious father. A true moment to remember.

The reception, which took place in the Mar Vista Ballroom, was breathtaking. The flowers were incredible. When Dodie said floral heavy, he meant floral heavy!! We felt as if we were entering a storybook. What a way to begin our lives together. Everything was perfect, every detail that you can imagine was there, even better than I had ever anticipated. The staff at Pelican Hill was so professional and helpful. The dinner was served one table at a time with each waiter presenting the guests at the same time with a piping hot course of their choice.

The photographers and videographers captured the greatest moments of the reception without hardly being noticed. The Ice sculpture with our signature drink, the gelato bar, and the cigar bar were perfectly located and enjoyed by all of our guests. The Photo booth was a great place to visit and have some silly fun. The band Impulse had all of the guests on their feet dancing all night long. That in itself was an event not to be missed. The evening could not have been better! After we made out getaway, the guests were served sliders and late night snacks. A perfect ending to a perfect day!

What did you plan for the honeymoon?

We decided on a honeymoon in Thailand. We wanted out trip to include culture, adventure, and relaxation. We started in Bangkok exploring the city and experiencing the culture. It was so beautiful and peaceful and the perfect wrap up for the first days of our lives as a married couple.

Rustic

From the Couple…We were engaged in France and followed the rustic French theme throughout the wedding. I envisioned a soft romantic vibe with a neutral color palette, which fit in perfectly with the backdrop at Arista Winery.

We were introduced by my big sister in my sorority (Tri-Delt at Vanderbilt), Jenn Festa Giordano. Jenn’s husband was friends with Greg, and when he moved to San Francisco, Jenn introduced us. She told me she could see us ending up together, and she was right!

The day was magical. It was everything I dreamed of. Not only was it all so beautiful….it was so much more. It was sentimental, emotional, and full of love. The best part of the wedding was the deeper, spiritual part and feeling love and support from our nearest and dearest.

We are both very close with, thankful for, and grounded by our families. We dedicated our wedding to our parents, who have each been married for over 40 years. We honored our loving grandparents by including a table of photos of their weddings, we know they were there in spirit with us, and they had a ball. The maids of honor were my sisters, the groomsmen were Greg’s dad and brother.

Favorite memories include Dad’s heartfelt toast which brought tears to all 110 guests, and our 7 nieces and nephews who brought that family-ish at home feel. Anyone who knows us knows how much we adore our nieces and nephews. It would not have been the same without those precious faces as our ring bearers and flower girls.

I was inspired by 2 things. First, Greg proposed in France, one of my favorite places in the world. So, of course I wanted a French feel. Second, I always thought I would get married in my parents’ backyard. I love the old-fashioned homey feeling, and the space we used at Arista feels like a backyard. I grew up with huge oak trees and a large grass yard (Winter Park, FL), which looks a lot like the Oak Grove at Arista. The ambiance I was going for was effortless elegance, vintage, rustic, romantic, bohemian, and French. Mom understood my vision and really brought it to life. We used my grandmother’s and great-grandmother’s lace on the cocktail tables, books from my home, and a painting of where we were engaged in Eze for a personal touch. Many of the personal ideas were from my Mom……who is a version of Martha Stewart meets Mother Goose.

We were married at the ages of 38/40 and had attended many weddings. We wanted something different, not the evening country club wedding. I always wanted a day wedding. I love daytime and sunshine. I go to bed early and wake up early. I love afternoons on a picnic blanket int he sun. When Kate Middleton had a day wedding, I realized this was possible. The wedding took place at 2:00 pm.

All the ladies in the wedding party wore ivory/champagne colored lace. My two sisters were my bridesmaids and wore champagne lace dresses from J. Crew. Both mothers wore ivory lace, going against the “don’t wear white to a wedding” rule! I am so glad we broke the rule. All the soft tones of cream and tan looked lovely together. Greg’s groomsmen were his Dad and brother. My father and brother-in-law wore the same suit, which looked wonderful in the photos. Greg really wanted to wear navy, and it looked great on him!

Instead of table numbers, we used words. We thought of twelve words that are important in marriage like patience, laughter, and humility.

The engagement ring is an antique Old European cut diamond. My wedding band includes French cut diamonds, and all rings are from Eric Trabert in San Francisco. Not surprising that all the diamonds are vintage and European!

We knew we wanted a wine country wedding, and we prefer Sonoma to Napa because it is smaller and less touristy. We love spending weekends in Healdsburg, and were thrilled when one of our favorite wineries happened to have an opening. This was a 4 month engagement, and everyone thought we were crazy. I knew if I had Mom, we could pull it off.

When the wedding and planning was over, I really missed the creative process, so I found something else to continue to use that part of my brain. I started a blog called oohlalamode. The wedding planning reminded me how much I enjoy and appreciate flowers, fashion, hair, hosting, lace, decor….all of it!

The wedding day is a memory I will forever hold dear in my heart, not because of the beautiful decorations, but because of all the love that surrounded us. We are so grateful.

From Ooh La La Weddings I think it’s safe to say that from the moment Greg proposed to Neely in France, in front of her parents, Neely’s mother began planning their French inspired wedding. Her first purchase, a set of crystal toasting flutes from the city of lights. I was grateful for the opportunity to be part of the planning process and was completely on board with the vision that Neely and her mom come to me with.

Together the three of us, along with a great team of local professionals, succeeded in bringing a touch of France to Sonoma County. Neely selected a color palette of whites and greens with natural accents. Their wedding included a personalized ceremony and heart felt toasts, darling vintage and rustic lounge vignettes, flower carts with fresh lavender, farm tables with burlap runners draped in fresh olive branches and rosemary garlands, and bistro chairs reminiscent of that of a Parisian sidewalk café, and of course what French themed wedding is complete without a macaron cart? The night ended with a 1949 white convertible Packard as a surprise get away car…and specialty Krispy Kreme donuts from the mother of the bride for her new son-in-law!

However, the most important part of the couple’s wedding day was sharing it with family and friends. Neely and Greg have such a beautiful love story and heritage; seeing their families come together along with their vision for this day was
truly special.

From Aimee Lomeli DesignWorking with you and your Mom was a delight. You always wanted to keep the style timeless and classic while using an eclectic mix. Designing with the details that told your story was a fantastic, such as the cart. Oh, and I loved creating baby’s breath garland for the entrance.

From Caitlin O’Reilly PhotographyNeely and Greg hosted a rustic, European inspired wedding in the heart of wine country. Neely and Greg have a little mix of city and country in them and certainly a lot of love for Europe. They were engaged in France and incorporated special French inspired touches to compliment their love of wine country. I particularly loved the use of olive branches down the center of the farm tables and the bunches of lavender that lay across the darling flower cart as guests entered the dining space. Cocktail hour had gorgeous lounge furniture and cute side tables with books about travel and art. And of course, the Patisserie cart was a must! Decadent little desserts atop the cutest cart made everyone smile! But probably the most memorable moment for me from this wedding was capturing these two as they stood in the middle of a lavender field as the setting sun glistened over their shoulders.

From the Mother of the Bride… This experience was pure joy. Neely knew exactly what she wanted her day to look like and never wavered. Each day leading up to the wedding, we shared an early morning phone call (East coast to West coast), and these special conversations will forever be held in my heart. We each brought different gifts to the planning process which made the end result — her wedding day — everything she imagined. Neely’s nickname is “sunshine,” and she was a radiant bride. Neely and Greg have invested in deep friendships throughout their lives. And on their wedding day, it was a gathering of family and friends that resembled a beautiful bouquet of flowers hand picked from their garden.

From Arista WineryNeely and Greg’s wedding was like something out of a dream. Not only was every little detail scrumptious but the bride and groom themselves were (and are) some of the sweetest we’ve ever had the pleasure of working with! We cannot wait to watch as Neely and Greg continue to live their love story, and we feel honored that they chose to start their journey of marriage at Arista.

From Justin Fone ProductionsWhere do I begin with Neely and Greg’s wedding? Was it the picture perfect setting in the lavender field? Is it the timeless beauty of the newlywed couple? I believe what stuck me the most about Neely and Greg’s wedding was the outpouring of love, care, and thoughtfulness that was mutually shared between each and every person at their wedding. It was an honor to be able to bask in such warmth!

How NOT to Break the Bank on Framing

I remember the very first time I had something professionally framed. My wallet gave me the eye roll—and it wasn’t even a large piece! It was a simple 8×10″ with matting. Since then my financial relationship with framing has been on the rocks, but I’ve come to learn that it doesn’t need to be. With a few resources at hand, you can put your fear of framing at rest too (and save loads of moolah in the process).

All the Inspiration You’ll Ever Need for Your Vow Renewal

You know what’s better than saying “I do?” Saying it again. And if you’re looking for inspiration for your very own vow renewal, Simply Sarah Photography is delivering it in epic proportions with this stunning Alys Beach shoot featuring some of the sweetest details ever. It’s a talented team of vendors (hello, Molly Mckinley, Lindsay Coletta and Fig and Flourish) all coming together to show you just how awesome tying the knot is… twice. See it all in THE VAULT right here.

From Molly Mckinley This vow renewal was inspired by the crisp lines and classic colors of Alys Beach and the way it contrasted with the darling couple’s soft style – the bride’s chiffon dress and large lush bouquet and groom’s pale blue jacket. Blush, green, and ivory florals accentuated the already lovely architecture, while softening the overall feel.

These images tell the story of a young couple who after one year of marriage, decided to escape to Alys Beach, Florida to celebrate their love with a small vow renewal. While walking through the beautiful courtyards of Alys, they reminisced on the last year together. They stumbled upon vintage postcards in a local boutique and addressed them to their loved ones back home. At the end of the day, they shared a picnic and a few glasses of Rosé, then disappeared up the stairs of their cottage for the week.  See more from Simply Sarah Photography here

From Luna de Mare PhotographyRich in cultural details, this Cambodian wedding set inside the Japanese Garden in Long Beach, was full of rich tones and intricate ceremonial traditions. The bride and groom had a total of five wardrobe changes throughout the day, each adorned with beautiful golden details. Age long traditions were recognized and rituals were performed to perfection, as they relished each with smiles on their faces throughout the festivities of the day. As the morning ceremonies concluded, Sothea and Richard changed into traditional American wedding attire and wed under the same Mandap draped with florals, and held their reception nearby where Cambodian courses were served throughout their night.
