Wedding Inspiration That’s All About Bringing the Garden Inside

Blooming with beauty, that’s what we’ve aptly named this inspiration from Apryl Ann Photography. Because when you combine the true talents of The Wildflowers and Bows and Arrows, you know you’re in for a terrific treat. Enter peonies as big as plates and the prettiest way to bring the outdoors in for your big day. Get inspired and be sure to see it all for yourself in The Vault!

From Rebecca Marin with The WildflowersIn this dreamy growing garden wedding, we let florals run wild. The flowers, leaves and vines that enveloped the space were as beautiful as they were untamed– a far cry from traditional tightly-bunched white blooms. A palette of cream, yellow, pink, merlot, and tiny touches of green and lavender was present in the flowers, as well as in the cascading Frou Frou Chic ribbon, the naturalistic tablescapes, and the Bonne Nouvelle paper goods.

The bridal beauty looks were undone, effortless, yet sophisticated. The first bride piled her natural curls into a messy chignon, so that the delicate florals and translucent back of her gown could take the stage. The other sported a loose fishtail braid, an ethereal flowing dress, and dewy lips and lids. Little petals and leaves wove throughout their hair as though they had fallen from the arrangements around them. Our brides’ rings, both by Shapiro Diamonds, were modern yet elegant. One boasted an unconventional light-catching yellow diamond that bounced the sun onto a loosely draped bouquet; the second featured a sparkling white diamond in a dainty gold setting. The full effect of these bridal portraits, captured by Apryl Ann Photography, was one of regal beauties who had escaped their big days for a quiet moment among blossoming plants and sun-drenched tile.

Outside, the reception table was shaded by a vine installation mimicking the soft lines of the leafy overhead branches. The florals, by Bows and Arrows, included dozens of tiny vessels, each containing its own arrangement of just a few flowers and leaves. Paired with varying heights of candles, the flowers created an eye-catching multilevel centerpiece. A few blossoms topped the atypical yet playful strawberry cream cake. The neutral gray wooden table and blush-colored chairs, as well as the simple white plates and antique-looking glasses, formed a perfect blank canvas to showcase the florals’ natural beauty. In all, the just-foraged look of the plants and decor created a romantic authenticity that resembled an intimate, elevated estate wedding.

Their Modern Wedding Felt Like the Ultimate Party

This colorful gallery is my ultimate version of happy. For starters, the couple wanted a wedding that felt more like a fun summer party than a formal affair and I’m pretty dang sure they delivered. Many of the details, including the hanging geometric figures were handmade by the duo and the Drunken Pixel photo booth and cheeky paper goods tied it all together. Keep the party going with The Great Romance Photo gallery and film by Memo Collective.

From the Bride…Sam and I started dating at the age of 19, so it would be an understatement to say that I’ve been dreaming about our big day since…Well, forever.

We’ve always envisioned having our wedding at a very modern chic space, and the Fig House fit our vision perfectly. I remember the exact moment we stepped inside The Fig House for the very first time – we felt as if we were being transported into a secret world and instantly knew it would be the “one.” The art-deco design, the colorful mid-century modern furniture, and the open yet intimate setting of the space was everything we dreamed of.

One of the biggest focuses of our wedding was making sure that our wedding felt more like a fun summer party rather than a formal affair. Despite having a guest count of 160, we created an intimate feel, by confining our cocktail hour and dinner to a smaller space, arranged the dinner tables into long rows, and served American barbeque for dinner.

Majority of our décor was handcrafted because we both personally love DIY projects and creating things with our hands. With the help of our amazing wedding party, we handmade key pieces like the hanging geometric figures, personalized place card holders, and dessert forks. The table florals and ferns were hand-picked from the Los Angeles Flower Market and arranged on our own as well. We tried to keep our décor as low-key and as simple as possible because we didn’t want to take away from the charm of the venue.

My favorite moment of the day was our first dance. About 15 seconds into our (slightly awkward) slow dancing, Sam resorted to his silly self and began lip-syncing the lyrics of our song to me to help me feel more relaxed (let’s just say it’s a little overwhelming to see 160 pairs of eyes watching you dance). I remember feeling incredibly happy and thankful in that moment – everything seemed so timeless.

Rustic

From Connie WhitlockFrom Being from New York City, Anne and Ryan wanted open spaces and sprawling mountain views for the backdrop for their wedding. Devil’s Thumb Ranch is situated on 6,000 acres of flowering meadows and lush woodlands with the ceremony and reception location at the base of some stunning peaks on the property. As guests arrived, they were immediately greeted by the expansive views. The couple exchanged vows under a floral covered pergola facing open horse pasture and watercolored, lush, blue and green mountains – surrounded by family and friends from all over the country. As guests made their way up to the outdoor cocktail hour, they enjoyed libations and passed hor d’oeuvres while enjoying the views and the perfect weather that day. The reception barn was softened with floor to ceiling draping on the columns, and the head table was a long exposed wood table that sat the entire bridal party. The bride and groom sat on chairs adorned with frames containing childhood photos of themselves. Guests found their seats one handwritten magnolia leaves as escort cards, and sat at round, silk covered tables on elegant crossback chairs surrounding the bride and groom. Large barn doors that were opened during dining allowed for everyone to continue enjoying the views as they ate and danced the night away.

From the Bride… Ryan and I wanted a weekend celebration in a classically Colorado setting – Devil’s Thumb Ranch was a no brainer. Not only is it stunningly gorgeous, most of our guests stayed on the property and were able to enjoy days full of fly fishing and horseback riding. It was really important to us that we maximize our time with friends and family and because no one had to deal with transportation, we were able to do that. We organized a group hike, a welcome celebration at the Pavillion with corn hole and plenty to eat and drink, and of the course, the wedding itself. For the wedding, we wanted it to feel “Colorado” – not like we were somewhere else. It had a rustic elegance and included touches such as Magnolia leaves for escort cards, birch wood as center pieces, and Mountain inspired table names. We also wanted to incorporate a ton of greenery throughout the ceremony and reception space to give a natural and organic feeling. Overall, it was absolutely the best weekend of our lives.

A Coastal Wedding With Lots of Chic Style

Just because you’re on the coast, doesn’t mean you have to go full on “beachy” with your wedding style. Eva Williams Clark of Belle of the Ball let the coast inspire this wedding’s design in stylish, subtle ways and infused the whole space with a romantic, rustic elegant vibe. The results? Perfect. Harwell Photography captured all – see more in our Vault right this way!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/175939170 600 338]

From Eva Williams Clark of Belle of the BallLauren and Michael’s love story began at Auburn University when mutual friends introduced them. The emerald coast of Florida was so much a part of Lauren’s upbringing that it only seemed fitting for it to serve as the backdrop for her wedding. The reception venue was only steps away from their family vacation home so she felt right at home on her wedding day. It was important to the bride that elements of the coast were incorporated without it coming off too ‘beachy’. Pops of green and white floral added a distinctly beautiful freshness to the modern rustic venue!

An Anthropologie Shopping Bag Inspired This Entire Shoot!

I have the unique pleasure of living a stones throw away from Willowdale Estate and let me tell you, that place is seriously special. So much so that a talented team of vendors decided to get together and make said venue all the more enchanting. Because when you add in oil paintings from SMP alumni Jess Blazejewski, the ideas of Esme Isolde, and the lens of Annmarie Swift Photography, you’ve got yourself a wedding inspiration to save. See it all in The Vault!

From the designer, Ghislaine Ruiz of Esme IsoldeLittle did I know, what began as a sweet treat at Anthropologie would soon transform into a source of inspiration for a fine art wedding design. The beautiful combination of colors on the Anthropologie shopping bag simulated a painting of perfectly imperfect brushstrokes, blended just so to formulate what quickly became a design that I could not forget. Deep golden yellow, woven with pale blue, and the softest whisper of translucent grey.

This bag gave way to the idea that a fine hand painted work of art should be the statement piece of the tablescape design, providing an exquisite and inimitable backdrop to a beautifully simple place setting with clean fine lines. The stunning works of art by Jess Blazejewski with their darker hues provided a moody edge to the jovial celebration scene. Set atop with Pottery Barn’s ‘Joshua’ dinnerware, West Elm’s brushed gold flatware, and Crate and Barrel’s ‘Camille’ glassware and textured linen napkins. The Silk and Willow dove runner blowing elegantly in the breeze, anchored with brass candlesticks and the most humble of floral centerpieces nestled in a hand-etched brass vessel. Olive branches chosen for their natural beauty and ability to make a statement all on their own, a symbol of peace centered within a celebration of joy. Sprinkled with all-white blooms, and few pops of golden yellow, allowing the paintings to be the true heart of the spotlight. The Heritage at Home cake with its minimalistic, artistic, and textured design provided a playful ambience for the vivacious wedding party, along with the handcrafted blueberry lemon cocktails. Hidden away within the treasure that is the Willowdale Estate, surrounded by elegant stone walls and ivy covered trellises, the wooden table and cross-back chairs all delivered the intimate cottage-like experience I imagined for such a wedding, where you would savor this special moment and create memories with only the very closest family and friends. The door to the secret garden, a custom invitation suite by Becca Joas, with her willowy hand-lettered calligraphy providing the key to this heavenly bliss. Wrapped up in a translucent vellum envelope, giving you just a taste of the exquisite experience that is to come.

Our bride in the Alexandra Grecco ‘Aurelia’ gown, looking ever so graceful in fine layers of ivory silk and delicate hand-beaded neckline, giving way to the unexpected open back of the gown. Selected for its understated elegance, then made complete with the hair and makeup design of Jenny Luu. My very favorite touch is the pop of red on her lips, as it is unanticipated, fresh, and bold. Complimented by our maid of honor, effortless in a Katherine Bignon two-piece gown, weaving in the pale blue into this bespoke fine art wedding inspiration. Our handsome gentlemen donned in The Black Tux’s ‘The Redding Outfit,’ purposefully chosen for its lighter hue, adding an element of fresh air to the occasion.

This ethereal setting, captured by Annmarie Swift Photography, is near and dear to my heart and by far my all-time favorite wedding design to date. Filled with ingenuity, simplicity, and raw artistic elements, each and every detail was intentional to the very core. A testament that true inspiration can come from anywhere, transform into something magical, and create the most charming of weddings.

Squirrels, Style + Smiles Galore for this Garden Wedding

Even the garden squirrels wanted in on this action! Every single detail was thought of – including an epic “We’re nuts about each other” snack station that had a few unexpected visitors. But who can blame them when a wedding is this good. Thanks to the talented team of vendors including CCL Weddings and Events, Peony & Plum, Borrowed Blu and Found Vintage Rentals, it was pure perfection – and The Great Romance Photo captured it all. Get in on all this action yourself in our Vault right this way!

From CCL Weddings and EventsThey say rain is always good luck on a wedding day, yet it always seems to give any couple a good scare. Luckily Ali and Matt embraced the scare of a little rain and decided to dance it out instead. Little did the couple know while planning their wedding seven months before that there would even be a small chance of rain for their May wedding.

Ali and Matt had always known that Pasadena would be the place they would tie the knot as it was the hometown of the bride. They checked out a few venues, but still were always led back to home. They chose the beautiful property of the Ambassador Mansion for the nuptials in front of 180 of their closest family and friends. It was an entirely outdoor location with a gorgeous garden, amazing architecture and a staircase for the grandest entrance of the bride. A ceremony where the couple was literally surrounded by their friends and family as they stood in the center on a bridge in a garden.

The couple wanted to make sure they added details about themselves throughout the wedding. As guests arrived they served pre-ceremony aguas frescas as a nod to the couple’s favorite beverage. A welcome nut station not only attracted their friends, but also the little critters from the garden.

From the ceremony, to the cocktail hour and reception, each event took place in its own space where the guests could experience different parts of the garden. Guests enjoyed appetizers and some of the couple’s favorite specialty drinks catered from Cynthia Brooks Catering during cocktail hour, while viewing the couple’s “Wall of Fame” of family photos. Their love for tea played a role in their escort cards for the guests as a “Plenty of Love” installation were filled with glass vials of the couple’s favorite tea leaves.

The reception was definitely the main event taking place under a tent frame with white draping and chandeliers above. The best part of it all was the live band from Soultones that played during the duration of the event and brought all the guests to their feet. It was the first time the bride had seen her now hubby dance, and it will definitely not be the last.

From the Bachelor to Gorgeous Love Nest, tour Ben + Lauren’s New Digs

Anyone that’s been through the arduous process of combining couple styles knows, it is no easy feat. Even when you’re the darlings of The Bachelor franchise. Ben and Lauren are spilling the details of cohabitating and making it look gorgeous with the help of Joss & Main. And just when you thought these two couldn’t possibly get any cuter, their little love nest is blowing that cuteness right out of the water.

From Joss & Main Style Director, Donna Garlough…Working with Lauren to reimagine her home with Ben was an absolute delight. She’s passionate about design and décor, and she brought a lot of her own ideas to the table. At the same time, she was open to new suggestions about what could work in her space. What we landed on was a fantastic mix of modern and traditional, romantic and edgy, masculine and feminine. And I think that’s a perfect reflection of Ben and Lauren’s life together in Denver, and how they work together as a couple. It’s not always easy to tell a Bachelor you’re replacing all of his furniture! But Lauren was so thoughtful about wanting both of their personalities reflected in their home’s design, and she wanted him to be happy with the end result, too.

Tell us about your respective styles. Was it difficult to design a space representative of each?

Lauren: I definitely love neutrals, as is evident from this room, and I like mixing more modern pieces with rustic, second-hand finds. With the light and airy colors, I feel like I kind of brought a piece of California with me to Ben’s home in Denver. But I didn’t want to make it feel too feminine—I’m moving into his house, so I tried to keep him in mind as well. In terms of design, Ben took a step back until the end when everything had come together and he could see the full picture.

Ben: When it came to this project, I did try to stay out of it. She’s moving into this house, and I wanted her to feel like this is home. If I was to choose everything, it wouldn’t feel like that. The other part is… I just don’t think about design too much. I had my couch, my futon from college, and my deer antlers above the fireplace, and I was happy with that. I trusted Lauren to take the reins and make the place look better.

Walk us through your process. What was your inspiration, and how did you bring your vision to life?

Lauren: I have a set of watercolors that were painted by a friend—they have a lot of light pastels and these clean-lined, white frames. They really inspired the entire space, and now they’re hanging above our dining table. From there, I just browsed Joss & Main—they have so many great pieces; you can really transform your whole home right from their website. I, of course, picked out way too many items for our very small bungalow home. So I narrowed down my favorites, added them to my Idea Boards, and then the Joss & Main design team was gracious enough to mock them up, pull in finishing touches, and help us zero in on a final look.

Ben: It took the stress off me.

Lauren: Yes, and I don’t think I could’ve dreamt up a more perfect home.

Prior to moving in together, Ben lived here for a year and a half and decorated the entire space himself. What would you say was his worst bachelor-pad offense?

Lauren: Probably his bedroom furniture. It was all brown, and his bedding was brown. Everything was brown.

Ben: I’m more of a rustic man.

Lauren: No, it was like, really dark.

Ben: More of a rustic person, like lodge-y.

Lauren: I don’t hate brown, it wasn’t like a wood brown, it was like a painted brown.

Ben: Brought out the colors in the room.

Lauren: It didn’t have a lot of texture, either. It kind of made me just want to go to sleep, and then just close the door to the bedroom in the morning and not let anyone in there.

Ben: Isn’t that what it’s for?

Lauren: I guess. I feel like it should a sanctuary—peaceful and a place you want to cozy up in.

Ben: Now it is.

Lauren: Before, we didn’t have curtains or a rug. Now it feels a lot warmer than it used to. We layered a couple of rugs, one being a shaggy faux fur style that I love and just screams cozy to me. When it comes to the bedroom, I don’t want it to be overdone, I don’t want a ton of busy decor—I want it to feel like a sanctuary.

Speaking of peaceful, what do you find necessary for keeping the peace in small home?

Ben: I think having your own space—I don’t think sharing every space would be healthy or smart.

Lauren: I agree—having your own space is really important when it comes to living together. We don’t have a ton of space in this house, but we’ve still managed to carve out areas we can spend time in by ourselves. I can imagine having two bathrooms would also be important, although we don’t have that. Wouldn’t two bathrooms be nice?

Ben: Yes.

Lauren: I don’t need more space; I just need another bathroom. And maybe a walk-in closet. He moved all of his clothes to the basement so that I could have all the closet space on the first level—it was really nice.

There are a lot of great new pieces in this place—what are some of your favorites?

Ben: I think after seeing everything laid out, my favorites are the couch and the Chewbacca pillows. I also love the marble table—I think it’s classy, it’s sophisticated, and it looks good with a cocktail on it!

Lauren: My favorite piece is probably the chandelier above the dining table. Aside from the watercolor paintings, it’s really what inspired the room. I wanted it to be the first thing you saw when walking in the door. I also love the couch and the pillows. I love all the different textures—I want to go around and touch and feel everything.

Ben: Can I add how cool the bar cart is, too?

Lauren: The bar cart is pretty cool. That was really for you.

Ben: I know it was! I had a bar cart that I made it was cool, but this one’s a lot nicer.

And what about your favorite room? If you had to give just one a symbolic “final rose,” what would it be?

Ben: It would definitely be the living room—it’s bright, it has beautiful windows, it still has the original 100-year-old hardwood floors, and now it has beautiful furniture. This room has a lot of character, and I would say it’s the most special room in the house.

Lauren: I would definitely say the living room—it’s where we spend the most time.

We’re going to have you finish a few sentences for us. First one: Home is…

Lauren: Home is cozy, and where the people you love are. Home is a feeling, not necessarily things—but there are pieces, like a soft throw or comfy sofa, that help make a house your home.

Ben: Home for me is really where I lay my head at night. And I think it’s the place that, like Lauren said, is where your loved ones are.

The best part of moving in together is…

Ben: The best part about moving in together is having the opportunity to learn more about each other than we would in any other capacity. From the small things to the big things, to the fact that Lauren really felt that in order to make this place home we needed some new furniture and her mark on this place. Now, I’m excited to see with the new furniture and her touch on it, how happy she is and how she operates in this environment.

Lauren: It’s really the little things… I think that’s what we missed the most about being on the Bachelor, and then having to hide our engagement. We did some really amazing things on the show—we went on airplane rides and helicopter rides and all that, but we missed the everyday things together. Grocery shopping, cooking, watching movies, getting takeout and just enjoying our home together, those are the things we waited so long for. Now that we are able to do those on a regular basis, it’s been really nice.

The hardest part of moving in together is…

Ben: The hardest part about moving in with each other is the feeling of unsettledness. I was established in Denver, this was my home for two years prior to Lauren. She moved here and started a whole new life. So I think it’s been hard to see through her eyes how new this is. For as new as it is for Lauren to move into Denver, it’s a whole new outlook for me as well. I think that’s probably been the hardest part, just getting used to that.

Lauren: I think it’s not necessarily moving in together, but moving to a new city can be hard. It’s a lot of change in itself—a home, making new friends and being newly engaged. I had my sister and brother back in LA. I was close to my family and now I’m in a whole new place. It’s a sense of starting over, which is exciting and presents a certain challenge that I like, but it also can be a little bit overwhelming sometimes.

This Wedding Was a Perfect Blending Of Cultures

Let me preface by saying this isn’t your average Midwest wedding. In fact, it’s so much better. Senushi and Ryan managed to blend their Buddhist and Catholic backgrounds into one cohesive, deeply meaningful celebration that brought two families from across the world together. A big thanks to Jen Dillender and 3 Strands Film for bringing the day to life on our pages.

From the Bride…My name is Senushi O’Sullivan. Yup, I think my married name adequately describes our union. Ours was a non-conventional story from the very beginning. Ryan and I met on match.com, as children of the 90’s this was something we thought we’d never do ourselves but we couldn’t be more grateful that we did. We spent our savings traveling the world for two months and realized that at both our best and worst, life was always sweeter with one another. The best night and surprise of my life is when Ryan proposed. Then, I started medical school in Kansas City and Ryan started dental school 350 miles away, and we logged many miles and listened to many audiobooks for the next 4 years living apart.

It also meant a 4 year engagement. Four years of pouring over gauzy wedding film photography, paper thin beaded dresses that cost as much as a semester of medical school, and drooling over venues that were originally built for actual royalty. Our union wouldn’t be a traditional Midwestern wedding. I am Sri Lankan, Kiwi, Australian, American Buddhist and Ryan is Irish American Catholic—we weren’t only blending families, we were also blending cultures. Despite all my gushing over the gorgeous wedding blogs and publications, my wonderment wasn’t immune to the absence of minority brides or couples who didn’t also moonlight as catalogue models. Our reception was not in Napa Valley or hosted in a distant relative’s castle.

The first part of our mixed cultural wedding was the Catholic ceremony at the beautiful Holy Family Cathedral. I learned a great deal about the Catholic traditions leading up to the wedding, and it was a joy to attend pre-canna because Father O’Brien counseled us. He also married us, and my Buddhist family members became big fans of Father O’Brien as well.

Hosting a Sri Lankan wedding ceremony in the Midwest was a unique challenge. There are very few people with the very particular knowledge to be a Sri Lankan wedding Celebrant. A family member from Arizona suggested a gentleman in Chicago who performed Sri Lankan weddings, and so we asked him to officiate ours. A friend of Ryan’s family actually built the traditional Sri Lankan platform called a Poruwa, and EverSomething built and decorated the traditional arch component of the Poruwa.

In front of our diverse wedding guests, we exchanged vows in the Sri Lankan tradition—feeding each other “kiri bath” or coconut milk rice, Ryan hilariously attempting to fasten my grandmother’s gold necklace around my neck, my father tying our pinky fingers together with gold thread, and finally my uncle helping us down from the platform as a newly married couple. We then bowed down to both sets of parents and gave them presents. Ryan’s cousin, Cooper, practiced chopping open many coconuts with an axe the night before because he was chosen to perform this task as my Uncle helped us step off of the Poruwa.

It was great to involve both sides of the family in each other’s religious and cultural traditions. We then lit a traditional Sri Lankan oil lamp, which signifies the illumination of our new life together. For the food, KEO restaurant made some of my mum’s Sri Lankan recipes as well as some of their best selling Thai, Vietnamese, and Malaysian dishes.

For the reception space, Taylor and her EverSomething team transformed the add-on multipurpose room of the otherwise stunning 1920s Tulsa Garden Center mansion with swathes of sheer ivory fabric, tapered candles, and Taylor’s beautiful flowers. As with any wedding, there were unexpected hiccups but Hannah Ekblad of Frosted Field Events always found a solution and made sure the day went on as if everything was perfect. Despite the Oklahoma heat, the two ceremonies, and the huge bridal party, Hannah was the absolute sweetest and best coordinator a bride could ever hope to work with.

Although most of Ryan’s family lives in Oklahoma and Kansas, most of mine lives in Australia and Sri Lanka. We were so touched by the fact that people flew from so far to be with us in Tulsa. My 11-year old cousin, Kiara, from Australia surprised us all with her performance of “A Thousand Years,” which she had practiced for months and rehearsed with the band right before the reception started. LostWax was our amazing band, and the dancing started with their very first song.

No one wanted the party to end when they inevitably had to wrap up. Before the last hour of dancing, I changed into a red saree. In Sri Lankan culture, the bride changes into a red going away saree. It was the first saree I had ever worn and was worried it would constrict me from dancing, but I found a way!

Asking Jen Dillender to be our photographer was the best decision we made during the planning process. I agonized over choosing from all the film photographers I fan-girled so hard for. Jen was one of the kindest and most fun artists I met with, and her images are a testament to her raw talent. Even though the wedding is over, I’m still such a big fan of her work and of who she is.

The perfect venue. The perfect details. The perfect wedding.

They say when you know, you know… and for this darling duo and their search for the perfect seaside venue, that statement couldn’t have been more true. Because the second they stepped foot into the Montauk Yacht Club, they knew THIS was the place they would host their incredibly thoughtful + classic day. From their beautiful invites from Bella Figura to their popcorn place cards to their heartfelt moments all captured by Brklyn View Photography.  See it all in THE VAULT right this way.

From the Bride… Since the beginning of our relationship seven years ago, Brian and I have shared a love of visiting lighthouses. When we arrived at the Montauk Yacht Club during our venue search and saw that they were not only just down the road from the famous Montauk Lighthouse but that they had their own small lighthouse featured in the middle of the hotel, we knew we had found the perfect place.

As we began our planning, we decided we wanted our wedding to have three things; all of our activities at one location (from the rehearsal dinner to the ceremony to the reception to the day after brunch), a getaway feeling for our guests so they could properly unwind, relax and celebrate and finally bursts of both of our personalities throughout. We often read during our research that after picking the venue, everything else is simple – and it happened exactly that way for us. The venue search was a bit stressful, we saw many places, but neither of us felt a connection to any of them until we arrived at the Montauk Yacht Club. It was our third venue visit that day (the other two were disappointments) and the last one we had scheduled – and luckily we walked in and felt it – that connection. After that, as they say, all the pieces fell into place.

We were able to create a three day weekend for most of our guests (we both have very big families so more than half the wedding was invited to the rehearsal dinner) which allowed everyone to relax and take advantage of the Montauk Yacht Club’s numerous activities – from spa services to water sports. This made us so happy. One other big advantage of having all our events at the same location all our guests were staying at was that it eliminated any transportation or driving for the whole weekend. We think this allowed everyone to relax a little bit more knowing they didn’t need to worry about any logistical issues.

We let our personalities shine through at every opportunity we could over the weekend. We wanted our wedding to be unique but more importantly, we wanted everyone to feel like they knew us a little bit better as a couple when they left. We started this with custom ceremony programs that featured a timeline of our relationship, highlighting major and memorable moments as well as a breakdown of our relationship by the numbers – showing how many movies we had ever seen together, how many birthdays we had celebrated together and so forth. It continued with Brian’s father officiating the ceremony and us reading our own vows to each other. We felt like it was like no other ceremony we had ever been so, and it was very much ours.

The cocktail hour featured a playlist curated by Christianna as well as a few of our favorite foods including two different types of hot dogs and macaroni and cheese. The wedding began with guests picking up their place cards which were fastened to the front of small boxes of popcorn – Brian’s favorite snack and heading to their tables which were marked with pictures of both of us at the age of their table number. Throughout the reception we included more personal touches like a cigar table featuring my father’s favorite brand and our mothers’ signature cookies and our favorite frozen yogurt, 16 Handles, for dessert.

As we look back on the day, I still cry when I think about the ceremony and Brian remembers how happy he was that our personalities shined through so much. If we can give one piece of advice to couples planning their own weddings it would be to remember that your wedding should reflect you both – from your favorite colors, the hobbies you share, and even the hot dog recipes you both love. Make it yours!

Not into Orange? Try these alternative decor ideas for a Chic Halloween

Of all the colors in the rainbow, orange is probably my least favorite. Thus, making halloween decorating a bit challenging. Do you fall firmly in the non-orange loving camp too? If so, pore through these alternative decor ideas filled with metallics and pastels that get into the spirit of Halloween without a lick of orange. And we promise only half of them are pumpkin related.

From Sally PineraI had the pleasure of photographing Pollina and Phillip’s engagement session in the beautiful rolling hills of Santa Ynez. Pollina’s makeup was dewy, natural and simplistic. We wanted to highlight such an inviting and warm beauty that Pollina has. For Philip, we paired chambray shirt and olive chinos for a relaxed look. Love was so evident and tangible with these two. We can’t wait for their wedding!
