Making the Most of Winter Entertaining

Oh winter. It sure gets a bad rap. But you know what? It’s become one of my favorite seasons to entertain. Think fires, fun cocktails, stick-to-your-bones meals – see what I mean? Not to mention, snow acts as the most perfect chiller for bubbly. So if you aren’t on #teamwinter yet, check out these ways to warm up your festivities even on the coldest day. xo, Abby Capalbo

1. Keep ’em cozy

This is obvious. Being cold, no matter how cute everything is, is not fun. If you are going to have outside entertainment during the winter months, make sure you have plenty of heat sources, blankets, extra mittens, hats, scarves, etc. A little shot of cinnamon whiskey helps too. Particularly when served in cute little mini mugs.

2. Embrace the Chill

Snow is the most perfect cooler for all your beverages. Bonus points? It looks extra pretty too. The one thing you don’t need to worry about while entertaining in the winter? Beverages gone bad.

3. Up the Activities

Snowshoeing, cross country skiing, perhaps a little ice-skating – something to keep the blood flowing is crucial for being making the most of a winter day. But if you are just in your backyard, don’t rule out your favorite summer games like bocce (just use another target ball), croquet, corn hole – and make sure it’s all followed up with some delicious s’mores (we like to serve them on cookies!).

4. Channel your inner Canadian

My hubby and I visited Quebec around the holidays, and our friendly neighbors to the north taught us one very important winter lesson; there is no bad weather, only bad clothing. And it’s kind of true. As long as you are bundled to the brim, it’s amazing how fun it can be outdoors, even on the chilliest of days. We also learned how to make Maple Taffy on fresh snow, and that alone makes us keep our fingers crossed for the next nor’easter.

5. Have a Warm Meal Waiting

This is a no-brainer. Sometimes the best part of being outside in the winter weather is knowing there is a cozy fire, some hot cocoa, and a meal so good you can’t move waiting for you after. I like to stick to the classics – chili, pot roast, or an amazing winter pasta. All things that can cook in the crock pot while we all enjoy our very own winter wonderland.

An Elegant Marquee Wedding by the River at Matilda Bay Reserve

What makes this gorgeous wedding day Down Under so incredibly special? (besides the most precious bride and groom)… it’s the sparkling, crystal and foliage filled reception. Think hanging arrangements, dusty pink blooms from Poppy’s Flowers and twinkling tea lights aplenty – need we say more?! Jasmine Pettersen captured every enchanting detail, all planned by the beautiful bride herself! Peep on over to the full gallery to see the all the Aussie sweetness.

A warm evening in early Autumn on the banks of the Swan river,  there is the clink of silverware and crystal; the murmur of warm conversation and laughter. Candle light shimmers and the fragrance of garden roses, jasmine, tuberose, sweet pea waft on a light breeze.

Danielle and Daniel’s intimate Perth black tie event, thoughtfully planned by the bride herself, was the stuff of wedding reception dreams. Under a clear marquee by the river at Matilda Bay, guests toasted the new couple, then danced the night away to a live band, finishing up with Greek dancing, lead by the relatives of the bride.

Tables were set with soft grey linens, elegant gold cutlery, and fragrant floral centerpieces by Poppy’s Flowers in white, dusty pink and green. A suspended arrangement of green foliage and garden roses above the bridal table, hung with sparkling tea lights in glass candle holders, along with oversized crystal bulbs over the guest tables, gave a light, airy feel to the space.

Earlier in the day, Danielle and Daniel wed in a moving Catholic ceremony, framed by a blush pink arbor, with the river as a backdrop. The couple then crossed the road for some portraits among the Italianate buildings of the University of Western Australia, Daniel’s alma mater, before joining their guests for a sunset cocktail.

Modern Rustic Wedding at Crossed Keys Estate

I had the honor of attending a few weddings this year and every single one took place outdoors—surrounded by the most gorgeous views, just like this fete at Crossed Keys Estate. To me, there is no detail that beats beautiful scenery, except for maybe this Bride in her Berta dress and her perfectly mismatched neutral bridesmaids in BHLDN. SO good. Dive into the full day documented by Bashful Captures!

From Bashful CapturesCrossed Keys Estate is a hidden gem in Andover, NJ, where everywhere you look it’s picture perfect. There’s an adorable red barn, gorgeous outside garden where the ceremony takes place and a beautiful tent for dinner and dancing. It’s one of my favorite venues to photograph and I was so excited when Aubrey and Sean reached out to capture their wedding. They are the most sweetest and genuine couples I have had the pleasure of working with and so honored they chose me to photograph their amazing wedding weekend at Crossed Keys Estate.

Aubrey looked jaw dropping gorgeous in her Berta wedding dress and Sean looked so dapper in his Navy Enzo tuxedo. Their outdoor garden ceremony was so beautiful and it was so much fun photographing everyone at the reception having such a great time. Aubrey and Sean exude in joy through out their wedding day and they really couldn’t get their eyes off of each other! It was truly a perfect day for an amazing couple! Congratulations again to the newlyweds!

A Russian Jewish Celebration at Sunstone Villa

I’m quite certain that Sunstone Villa is the most charming and perfect wedding venue on Earth. It has been the backdrop for so many weddings we’ve featured over the years—but today’s fete, designed by Madix & Co, is one that I know I’ll remember for years to come. The color palette sings beautifully through the blooms from Forage Florals and the bridesmaids’ dresses, while the reception takes it a step further with rentals from Found Vintage Rentals and tabletops covered in La Tavola. Without further ado, here is every gorgeous moment captured by Lynette Boyle.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/296083841 600 338]

From Madix & CoAdriana and Lenny envisioned a blow out celebration, highlighting good food, dancing and their Russian Jewish culture, while also representing who they are as a fun, vibrant, humorous couple who love to travel and have eclectic taste. Working with them to bring this to life, each detail was intentional. The eclectic color palette combining berry, golden and mauve tones against the neutral stone of the Italian inspired villa. Bridesmaids wore a mix of all these shades in dresses by Fame & Partners, while Adriana dazzled in a Galia Lahav gown. The paper goods by Brown Fox Calligraphy also played with color mixed with modern font and a beautiful floral monogram adding more whimsical touches to reflect their style and personalities. Forage Floral brought the palette to life with an eclectic mix of arrangements on the dinner tables, which we paired with twinkle lights, ivory linens and bentwood chairs so everything would pop and become even more vibrant through a long dinner. Combined with a 4 course meal, cocktail hour spread of smoked fish and caviar, dancing throughout dinner, and a silent disco after party, it was a larger than life celebration of love, family, and friends.

A Romantic Lavender and Blush Backyard Wedding at a Private Home in Montecito

We’ll always be lovers of a good backyard wedding… there’s just something so intimate and romantic about exchanging vows in such a personal place. Today’s wedding from Lacie Hansen Photography with planning by Jill and Co Events is one of those heart stopping, happy-tear filled days that we live for. Lovely lavender bridesmaid dresses, charming fleurs from TOAST Santa Barbara and a Lele Patisserie cake that’s almost too pretty to eat plus dance ’til the wee hours with Bob Gail Music & Entertainment. See all the reasons why we’re obsessed with this magical day below!

Marta and Steven’s Santa Barbara wedding was a friend and family filled affair, celebrating at all of their favorite locations around town.

Living in Santa Barbara, the bride and groom wanted to relax and bring all of their out of town family and friends to get to experience where they live! They started with an engagement party at the brides sister and Maid of Honor’s home in Montecito the year prior.

The wedding was set to take place at the parents of the brides home at the top of Hot Springs Road in Santa Barbara, with the mountains in the backdrop and the views of the ocean. The rehearsal dinner was held at the beloved San Ysidro Ranch for an intimate group, followed by a welcome bash the following day at the brides equestrian barn in Carpinteria. Carrots and apples were placed out for guests to feed the horses, and the wood fired pizza oven turned out custom flatbreads for all guests.

The wedding day was filled with special touches incorporating family. Not only was the bride married on the same lawn where her sister was married, the same family friend who married her parents, her brother, and her sister officiated the ceremony for Marta and Steven. Their beloved dog Merlin acted as ring bearers, with the brides nieces serving as the sweetest flower girls.

Cocktails were enjoyed with a panoramic view of the ocean on a decked pool prior to guests making their way down the candle lined pathway to the tented tennis court for a dinner and dancing. The dance floor was packed all night with only a break while the groom serenaded the bride from the stage. The guests enjoyed brunch at the Biltmore before they made their way home and the bride and groom jetted off to Bora Bora.

Colorado Engagement Session at Piney River Ranch in Vail

This e-sesh is like something straight out of The Notebook, Dirty Dancing and Legends of the Fall. Set at Piney River Ranch in Colorado, Diana and Daniel—who happened to be on the cheer team together at Penn State (no wonder they nailed this move)—called on Lucy Munoz to capture their sweet love and oh, did Lucy deliver. If a mountain engagement is on your wish list, let this one give you all the inspo.

From Lucy MunozThis amazing Colorado engagement session with Diana and Daniel is one that I will never forget. First, let me start off by saying that this couple met when they were on the cheer team at Penn State and they still have their cheer moves pat down. They love the outdoors, so this was a perfect place to go camping with their dog Leo, plus get some fun engagement photos as well. During their engagement session we had all types of weather. At times it would be raining and overcast and then all of a sudden the clouds would part and it would be sunny. Fortunately the weather didn’t dampen any of the fun. It was so beautiful to see how much love is between these two. I laughed so hard during their session that by the time I got in my tent and under my sleeping bag, my side was aching-the good kind of aching. You know what I’m talking about…the kind where you’ve laughed so much you feel content and full of happiness and you wish you could do it all over again? Yeah, that kind.

French Garden Wedding in Omaha at Happy Hollow Country Club

As I sit here wrapped in my favorite faux fur blanket warding off the early winter chill, this July wedding designed by Lovestruck Events is warming my soul. From the Bride’s stunning strapless number to the French garden-style details to the signature ice cream dessert (best. idea. ever.)—it is summer wedding goodness wrapped up into one pretty package captured by The Mullers.

From Lovestruck EventsEmily and Joey were married on a surprisingly cool July day. The bride wore a Monique Lhuiller gown, and the groom wore a custom black suit. We selected various Jenny Yoo floor-length gowns in Serenity Blue for the bridesmaids.

The clear-top tent which was used for both cocktail hour and dancing was the heart of the couple’s french garden-inspired celebration. The tent was draped in gray fabric and featured a six foot wide crystal chandelier. A grand lattice structure was welded on the front of the tent and expertly adorned with confederate jasmine to add to the garden ambiance. The seating assignment display was arranged on linen-backed frames with custom vellum pockets for each escort card. A free-standing bar and vintage furniture lounge created an inviting atmosphere inside the tent.

The dining room inside Happy Hollow Country Club featured light blue velvet linens mixed with patterned blue linen. Gray taper candles and lush blush and ivory centerpieces elevated the tablescape design. After dinner was served, guests moved backed to the tent for dancing, ice cream, and a sparkler farewell.

Interview with the Bride…

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?

I always dreamed of a classic, timeless summer wedding. My fiancé and I love being outside so I knew that I would want some part of the wedding outdoors.

What was your color palette and your style vision?

We decided on a French garden theme with lots of creams, whites, and greens. I was indecisive on light blue or blush for the bridesmaid dresses and finally decided after seeing the color swatches. The light blue worked seamlessly with our French Garden dream wedding.

What unique elements or DIY details did you include?

Our dogs are a huge part of our life and we wanted to have them included in someway. We decided to have cookies shaped like our dogs in the welcome bags. The perfect, sweet way to include them! Another unique element was incorporating our wedding crest inside my wedding gown. We also offered ice cream to cool guests off from the hot July night – complete with a custom flavor Joe and I created (vanilla ice cream with oreos, graham crackers, chocolate chunks, and brownies).

What was your favorite moment? Your favorite crafted detail?

My favorite crafted detail was everything to do with our tent! Dancing took place outside in a clear tent so we could dance under the stars. The inside of the tent was draped in fabric complete with a large chandelier. It was absolutely breathtaking! I also loved the outside of the tent: lush flowers in large plinth and urns and lattice draped in greenery. The entire day was a dream and it’s extremely hard to pick favorite moments because I would say every little thing, but if I had to pick it would be walking down the aisle and seeing Joe at the altar, taking our vows, and dancing the night away in the beautiful tent.

Tell us about your flowers, your gown, your favors, your cake, etc.

Flowers: Flowers arrangements were full and lush with a base of neutral tones and accents of blush. Flowers included: roses, hydrangeas, scabiosa, jasmine vine, camellia foliage, and more.

Gown: I went into dress shopping with an open mind and tried on all silhouettes, designers, and styles. I fell absolutely in love with an a-line, strapless gown made of 100% silk gazar. The skirt is tufted with unique structure and a 5 foot long train. I felt amazing wearing this elegant gown.

Favors: Guests received a gift bag filled with goodies when they checked into their room at our hotel block. We wanted to give a thankful gesture to those who traveled to be a part of our day without breaking the bank. The gift bags included popcorn, nuts, water bottles, and custom cookies shaped like our dogs, along with wedding details and a thank you note.

Cake: We had a five-tier vanilla cream cake with European buttercream frosting and filling. The cake was simple but beautiful with knife-textured frosting topped with fresh flowers and greenery.

What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?

Enjoy every second of the wedding planning process and wedding day. I highly suggest hiring a wedding planner so you, your significant other, and family can truly enjoy every moment of the special day.

With Subtle Nods to Disney, This Vegas Wedding Is the Happiest Place on SMP

What better way to celebrate Walt Disney’s birthday than by sharing this gorgeous wedding from Elyse Alexandria Photography, animated with elements from the Magic Kingdom. I Do Details knew exactly how to incorporate the couples love of Disney in a subtle, elegant way – all it took was a little bit of faith, trust and pixie dust! Don’t forget to let us know in the comments section which Disney “easter egg” was your favorite of the day!

From the planner… Janette and Willy loved rose gold and emerald for their fall wedding, but also wanted a classic, romantic vibe. Initially, they had booked at a different venue, but due to some extenuating circumstances, they had to change locations. When that happened, they added black, white, and velvet to add an extra touch of elegance to coordinate with the new venue.

Janette & Willy also are Disney lovers and Disney is woven throughout their love story. So of course we had to add some subtle elements to the decor. From Willy’s cufflinks to the ceremony processional songs to the cake topper (my personal favorite), every part of the day had a little bit of extra magic. We also wanted to pay homage to their hispanic roots by adding an amazing mariachi band for the guests to enjoy during cocktail hour.

From the bride… Willy and I met in 2005. We kept running into each other, unintentionally. His sister and my good friend wanted to set us up. So we finally talked and decided to hang out. We were friends first and the rest of it just kind of fell into place.

Willy proposed on the Disney cruise for our sons 10th birthday. They asked me for my dessert choice and I was so confused on what they were serving, but then everything made sense when Willy asked “will you be by happily ever after.” He always says he’s Carl and I’m Ellie.

My original vision for our wedding was fairly different than the final version because of the venue change. After we had to change venues, all I knew was that I really wanted everything to be outside, be romantic and have everyone dress up.

And because we’re Disney lovers for years, how we spend our happiest times, it was only fitting to have Disney elements added to our wedding. Everyone knows Disney is our thing, so we had to. I knew I was going to have our favorite Disney quotes and when I started looking at the favors I found those and loved them!

Rehearsal Dinner with Texas Hospitality at Guero’s in Austin

What do you get when you combine a love for Tex-Mex, good music and all of your favorite people in the world (and a few margaritas)? The best. rehearsal. dinner. ever. That’s exactly what this Bride & Groom did, with the help of 36th Street Events, to welcome guests to their wedding weekend. It has a cozy, at-home vibe and by the looks of every image from Brett Heidebrecht the smiles and laughter were proof of a great kickoff.

From Brett HeidebrechtTo open up events for their May wedding weekend in Austin, TX, the bride and groom welcomed all wedding guests to their rehearsal dinner Friday night. The bride, originally from Texas, and the groom, originally from Connecticut, met in California and had guests from all over the world visiting making a weekend of their wedding celebration. For the rehearsal dinner, they wanted to welcome their guests with good food, music, and warm Texas hospitality.

With the help of 36th Street Events, they transformed Guero’s – a favorite local Mexican restaurant with an outdoor beer garden – into a hacienda-style party with dinner and dancing. Margaritas and sangria were served during cocktail hours as country band Aaron McDonnell and The Neon Eagles played and Texas Two-Step instructors gave out-of-staters a dance lesson.

The evening included a Tex-Mex buffet with tables covered in native florals, adding a colorful fiesta-inspired flair to the festivities. Table decor included terracotta ceramics overflowing with fresh pomegranates, prickly pear and citrus fruits, a mix of cactus, succulents, and rich color palette provided by bougainvillea and dahlias. After dinner, dances, and toasts from the wedding party and parents of the groom, the bride and groom surprised guests with freshly-made churros that took them well into the Friday night downtown.

A Timeless Tented Wedding at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

There’s nothing quite like that timeless beauty of a Spring wedding reception underneath a sprawling Sperry tent, am I right?! Add a few arrangements of green and white flowers, white table linens, charming cross-back chairs and there you have it – our recipe for the perfect, classic wedding. With planning from 36th Street Events, floral design by Rosehip Flora and all captured flawlessly (duh!) by Brett Heidebrecht – this perfect day embodies the classic tented wedding of our dreams.

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center was an easy choice for The bride and groom. They fell in love in California and enjoy the outdoors, so bringing their wedding guests to a venue that celebrates and conserves the central Texas native landscape was a natural pick. Despite their love of the venue, it would be a challenging location for their 180 person wedding, and they set out to find a team that could execute the vision for an immersive, indoor-outdoor experience for their guests. 36th Street Events and Contigo Catering were up to the challenge.

They transformed the already beautiful center into a garden oasis, showcasing the Texas Hill Country. Guests entered the venue through a walk under sandstone aqueducts, reflecting the history of Spanish Colonial times in the region. Upon entering the central courtyard, guests were greeted with champagne and serenaded with music from a Spanish guitar trio before entering the great hall for the wedding ceremony.

With high ceilings, limestone walls, and floor to ceiling windows overlooking a dramatic vista of wildflower fields, the bride and groom added only an arbor over the altar for a simple, structural backdrop to their wedding vows. Guests could gaze over the bucolic meadow, the perfect bridge between the indoors and the natural splendor outside, as they awaited the bride. Suited to the season, the bride chose an organza Reem Acra wedding gown with a corseted bodice hand-stitched in chantilly lace and overlaid with an off-the-shoulder bolero. In true Texas fashion, she wore custom, caramel colored boots by Luchesse. Bridesmaids wore dresses in champagne-colored chiffon and emerald onyx earrings, keeping with the wedding’s color palette. The groom, in Texas summer tradition, wore a white dinner jacket by Zegna with a boutonniere made of a single white gardenia.

As the ceremony ended, floor-to-ceiling doors swung open, surprising the guests with the sound of a full Mariachi band kicking off cocktail hour. The Mariachi band then led all guests through the gardens of the Wildflower Center, replete with passed champagne, as guests strolled through the displays of native plants on the way to the reception lawn. The garden stroll opened up to a beautiful meadow, where guests were greeted with Contigo Catering’s fabulous array of Texas-inspired hors d’oeuvres and an oyster bar. Guests mingled outside of the 80 ft. Sperry tent with signature cocktails – spicy margaritas and Yankee mules, a salute to the bride and grooms’ backgrounds. Inside the grand tent, 36th Street Events and Rosehip Floral created a natural extension of the venue’s native gardens. Fresh branches and greenery were added to the tent poles to create the feeling of an arboretum inside the space. A wall of live plants was added as a backdrop to the main bar, which served as a natural break between the bar and the dance floor.

Tables were covered in cream linens, and decorated with copper vessel; place settings were kept simple with copper flatware, glass chargers, and personalized menus. Table arrangements incorporated native grasses and seasonal blooms, accented by sumptuous bowls of figs, pears, and grapes. Calligraphy for the invitation suite was provided by the bride in her own handwriting. San Francisco-based Dependable Letterpress realized the bride’s vision for an elegant and personal design, including hand-painted watercolor maps of the venue and the entire weekend’s locales. A collection of vintage stamps, showcasing Texas history and natural flora in the bride’s color palette of cream, champagne, and emerald, decorated the front of each envelope. At the reception, each guest received their place cards with a handwritten note from the bride and groom. Guests were given custom majolica tiles designed by the bride.

The dinner menu by Contigo served up elevated southwestern fare. The bride, who loves to host dinner parties, wanted the dining experience to make guests as feel as comfortable as they would be in their own homes. A plated salad of green bean, zucchini, arugula, peaches, house-made ricotta, and roasted onion vinaigrette was followed by pork shoulder with charred eggplant puree and leek salsa verde. Sides were served family style: grilled corn, avocado, and ancho creme fraiche; duck confit, shishito peppers, and pickled watermelon rind; and a seasonal salad of roasted beets, pickled rhubarb, pistachio, and purslane.

A Romantic Tuscan-Inspired Wedding at Silverleaf Country Club

This gorgeous, multicultural wedding from Rachel Solomon Photography may look like a scene straight out of Under The Tuscan Sun… but it’s actually set in the heart of the American Southwest! The swoon-worthy bride and groom tied the knot with a little help from a rockstar vendor team – Amy Mancuso Events made sure the celebrations went off without a hitch, Juliet Le Fleur wow’d us with her floral design… and the dress, ohhh the dress. It’s safe to say we’re completely obsessed with this one guys!

From the bride… Danny and I met when we were 18 years old. We both received soccer scholarships from Seattle Pacific University and met our freshman year of college. All through college, everyone could see that we had a ‘connection.’ He and I could feel it when we were around each other, but the timing was never right until our senior year when we officially started dating. When we finally got together, all of our friends joked with us and said, “It’s about time!”

I knew he was the one the very first time I laid eyes on him. The thought “I’m going to marry that guy!” ran through my head. I thought it was crazy and blew it off, but I knew after we started dating that he was mine. Even when it has been hard, he does things that remind me of why I want to spend the rest of my life with him.

On our 2-year anniversary of being together, as I walked through the door after work, I was completely shocked to see our whole house decorated with candles and flowers. Danny had a whole speech ready to say to me and then got down on one knee. Of course I said yes!

We come from two different cultures and backgrounds. We complement each other, and we help each other see the world through different points of view. Our wedding brought two different cultures together and united as them as one.

From photographer Rachel SolomonTaylor & Danny celebrated their classic, romantic wedding set against the backdrop of the McDowell Mountains in Scottsdale, Arizona, but by the looks of it you’d think they were in the middle of Tuscany!

Timeless English Destination Wedding at Brympton House

There are some weddings that are so beautiful, they leave me at a loss for words. Or maybe, I have too many words that come to mind, I simply don’t know the best ones to choose that describe the utter perfection that jumps off the page. This one, crafted with the help of A Very Beloved Wedding, falls into that category. You’ll see why in a moment when you scroll through the breathtaking images by Peter & Veronika. And then I can guarantee, you’ll promptly pin almost every single image to your wedding board. Let’s dive in, shall we?

From A Very Beloved WeddingJulia and Florian complement each other in every way. He’s a cautious, strategic thinker, with a pragmatic sense of the world and a loving husband to be. She is a vivid spirit, with a love for beauty, big hearted, and outgoing lady.

Their story began many years ago as teenagers. It was in January 2003, when they met at their school ball and she had to leave before midnight like Cinderella. Their wedding was all about them, all about romance and English beauty. Traditional, conservative, intimate, fun, classic, and light. It enhanced the tradition, the elegance and the romance found in Brympton House and in the loving ceremony.

In the middle of the heart of Brympton D’Evercy, a state older than one thousand years, there is one of England’s most romantic houses surrounded by nature – this is Brympton House. The oldest building standing today at the estate is Castle House which is over 750 years old, flooded with natural light and through its arched medieval windows it is the most romantic place to tie the knot.

The history of Brympton D’Evercy begins when the D’Evercy family arrived in England with William the Conqueror in 1066 and was awarded the Saxon Manor of Brunetone. Before the conquest the D’Evercys were noblemen in Normandy and before that almost certainly Vikings.

The color palette at Julia and Florian’s wedding was timeless. We used neutral colors such as grey, crème, white, some pastel and nude, with a few antique sparkles of gold and silver. The timeless elegance of the venue and it’s colors found in it, did the rest to complete the feeling of classic and traditional romance.

The natural beauty of flowers beautifully arranged gave a reminiscence of romance, festivity, grandness, timeless impressions, leaving a great impact in the overall feeling and memories of the couple and their guests. The setting was natural and whimsical. The ceremony took place at the Castle House with flowers as an altar and many candles. It looked like a Cinderella fairytale and Jane Austen endless romance. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a get together with drinks and canapés on the south terrace, surrounded by beautiful nature of this romantic house. That was the perfect time for the wonderful couple shoot. Julia’s dress had the words Something blue stitched on the dress in blue.

After that the guests where lead to the saloon. The dinner was very intimate. Four round tables where displayed with crème tablecloths and grey colored napkins with a printed calligraphed menu. The cutlery was gold and the glasses of thin crystal. The table numbers where placed mini antique easel card holders. The flowers were low presented in compote gold vases in the middle of the table with antique candle sticks of diverse heights.

After the last course, the cake was cut at the Temple of Brympton House. It was displayed on a round table with draped tablecloth. The cake was naked and adorned with several flower elements found in the overall décor. The party took place at the stables with a disco ball and cosy lounge area facilities. The stationery for Julia and Florian’s wedding was timeless and elegant, of fine paper, natural colors and artistic calligraphy. Bespoke illustrations about Brympton House and their Monogram on the wax seal, made the stationery unique.

Contemporary Red Wedding Inspiration at West Edge in New York City

Is it too early to think about Valentine’s Day? For those of you who are saying I do in February, probably not! It’s just a short couple of months away. If you’re tossing around the idea of classic reds, this one is for you loves. And the trick to not going overboard with red? Let your backdrop sing with whites like Simply Sunshine Events and Faye and Renee Floral and Event Design did here. Have a look in the full gallery from Asher Gardner for even more.

From Lindsay with Simply Sunshine EventsIn a neutral yet contemporary setting, we created this look to exhibit an edgy, modern yet minimalistic style with a high focus on textures, natural elements and repetitive design themes. The inspiration for this event design was drawn from the simplicity and complexity of a violin. The soft curves yet strong lines, the melodies it produces… a clean, vibrant and provocative sound. The design sense is a cross between mid-century and Scandinavian sensibilities all the while being softened with organic elements. We did this through the use of lush florals paired with details with slim profiles and refined accents – harder lines relaxed through the use of more delicate textures

We celebrated this inspiration by layering a limited color palette – various shades of white and sultry reds, accented by brass and wood accents for the most impact. By focusing on just a couple of colors, we reveled in the art of restraint while exuding a fashion-forward style.

Perfect Blush and Blue Pastel Wedding at Catalina View Gardens

Stretching vineyards for miles, sparkling ocean views and a bewitching floral appliqué gown – these are just a few of the many beautiful things you can expect to see from today’s stunning garden wedding. Sally Pinera worked her magic once again with these heart-stopping photos. Marisa Nicole Events and City Flowers LA joined forces in creating the dreamiest pastel arbor of all time. Take in all the beauty at the full gallery!

From the bride… Charles and I have a unique love story. Our families have been good friends for two generations – our grandparents were longtime friends and Charles’ uncle is best friends with my dad.

When I was a child, I would often see Charles’ grandparents when I visited my grandmother as they lived nearby. And yet, our paths did not cross until a few years ago when we met online. I felt a special connection and immediate sense of ease during our first date.

As we fell in love and shared each other’s backgrounds, we eventually found out that our families had this long history of friendship. What I thought would be a chance meeting with a boy turned out to be kismet.

For our wedding, I wanted to recreate the feeling of a magical garden that one would find in the beautiful French countryside. Charles and I were so fortunate to find Catalina View Gardens, with its lush bougainvillea, French lavender blooms, verdant vineyard and sweeping ocean views.

Our fantastic wedding planner, Marisa Nicole Events, helped us realize our ethereal, romantic wedding in this fantastic garden setting. City Flowers LA enhanced my vision by creating a gorgeous chuppah overflowing with my favorite fragrant flowers – cream and blush peonies, gardenias, dahlias, and garden roses.

In remembrance of my grandmother, I wore a custom necklace from jewelry she passed down to me, wearing it close to my heart.

We added personal elements throughout the wedding, including our 10-year old pup, Nori, in the ceremony and walking out to the score of La La Land (the city where we fell in love and the first movie we saw in theaters together). At the end of the night, the fireplace was lit and our guests were treated to hot mini donuts fried on-site for them to savor. The sublime Sally Pinera was there to capture all the details of our most joyous day.

Elegant Pink Tuscan Wedding at La Foce in Italy

I’m having a major wedding crush moment over here. This one, you guys—it’s like something out of a fairytale. The sun hits every corner of every image captured by Greg Finck just right, the combo of pinks with a light blueish gray is on point, the entire design by Federica Beni is goals… and can we just talk about those blooms for a sec? La Rosa Canica Firenze nailed it. Have you ever seen a more gorgeous pink bouquet? I wanted to give every single image it’s own board. Thankfully, we’ve got a big beautiful gallery with more.

From Greg FinckThis lovely couple celebrated their wedding in the late afternoon of a warm August Saturday, in one of the most magnificent venues in Tuscany, La Foce, surrounded by a small group of loved ones, their strict families and a few friends. We love small weddings since you can feel the intimacy and the emotions more than ever.

Eric a software engineer for a music streaming company and Tamara leads strategy for a start up working in the digital technologies business, met in San Francisco and bonded over their love for travel, cooking and art. They love traveling and wanted to share their passion for discovering new places and cultures with their family and friends. Tuscany was where the couple got engaged. They fell in love with the rolling hills, amazing food and friendly atmosphere of the Italian countryside. They couldn’t not have imagined having a wedding anywhere else.

From the Bride & Groom… When we planned our destination wedding, we did not know where to start but we knew that design was extremely important to us. Eric began following wedding photographers on Instagram and since most of them credit wedding planners and designers, that was a great way to find the aesthetic we loved. After we saw the weddings designed by Federica Beni, we knew we had to work with her. Federica’s attention to detail and the eye for design was what we were was looking for and she assembled a team of the best vendors that made our day better than we could have ever imagined.

From the Bride… Once venue was finalized, I started looking for my wedding dress but although I tried on a variety of dresses, I could not find something that I believe represented my personal style while also fitting into the design of the wedding. Then I reached out to my friend, fashion and lifestyle influencer and entrepreneur Nasiba Adilova who introduced me to fashion designer Prabal Gurung (@prabalgurung). I had always admired Prabal’s style and the values that his brand represents – female empowerment, acceptance and diversity, so I shared the mood board created by Federica with Prabal’s team and they designed the wedding dress to complement the venue and the design of the wedding. During the reception, I then changed into the second custom dress by Prabal Gurung.

From Federica BeniThe unique spaces offered by the venue allowed us to create different atmosphere for each part of the wedding – from the ceremony in the formal Italian garden to the reception al fresco to the dance party by the pool. Besides, in this specific venue, we made sure that guests could enjoy and discover each part of the wedding in a new way and the new space. I worked in this venue several times but each time is a challenge to design a a special event (and most of all completely different from the previous ones) able to reflect the couple’s vision and to be perfectly cohesive with the environment.

Being a late summer wedding, I thought to design a palette incorporating different shades of pink, from dusty rose to Mauve and adding some terra cotta hints for the arrangements of the dinner table, which recall the reddish shades present all around the venue and typical of ancient Tuscan architecture.

I love giving the table setting a unique aspect and in this specific situation I decided to opt for a grey linen table cloth and for a dinnerware with lots of character and textures which make the overall vision so beautiful and result so much from the film photography.

The sculpture in the Italian Garden of the Villa is usually the site used for symbolic ceremonies but having worked there several times, I wanted to create something unique with them. Tommaso from La Rosa Canina was the perfect collaborator and created these arrangements starting from the ground, at different eights and embellishing the sculpture and the altar itself.

Tamara and Eric decided to do their first dance right before dinner, when the sun was going down and the light all around was simply perfect. We had this beautiful dance floor with a surface recalling a white aged wooden flooring perfectly matching with the dinner area where it was positioned. One of the aim when creating some installations, is to respect what is around to low down the impact on the design and this dance floor was perfect!

As many other times we had a great photographer, Greg Finck, who was simply amazing (as usual I would say) capturing perfectly that intimate atmosphere that we wanted to highlight, in the golden late summer light.

The Ultimate Guide To Wedding Favors

Raise your hand if you’re slightly stressed over and stuck on wedding favors? I was. So much so, that I ended up kind-of not doing them! Instead, I wrapped lightweight throws in ribbon for our lady guests to enjoy during our evening summer soiree. But, if I had this little guide handy before the Big Day, I may have been swayed. Not only are we answering all the burning questions about favors—we’re pairing it with a gorgeous shoot from Jen Huang for Box Belle, who make the most darling favor boxes. So many ideas come to life with these little beauties! Take a peek below.

Why do we give wedding favors?

The tradition of handing out wedding favors goes way back. It is actually believed that the first wedding favor was designed amongst the European elite and was knowns as a bonbonnier or a small trinket box that was made of crystal, porcelain or precious stone. Sugar cubes or delicate sweets were tucked inside. As sugar because more affordable, Almonds replaced the traditional bonbonniere contents. They eventually because sugared almonds, also knowns as Jordan Almonds, which represent fertility, longevity, weath, health and happiness. The bitterness of the almond and the sweetness of the coated candy are a metaphor for the bitter sweetness of a marriage.

Do I need to buy wedding favors for everyone?

Short answer. NO. You don’t have to buy anything you don’t want to buy. Longer answer is that it’s simply a nice gesture, particularly when guests have travelled far to celebrate something as important as your marriage. But it doesn’t have to be overly expensive – often just a handwritten note to each guest will more than suffice (although your hand will hurt). And you know? If you are just going to buy something to check the “favor” box, we would ALWAYS suggest skipping it. The only reason to incorporate a favor is to delight your guests and leave them with a lasting memory of your wedding.

What is the “right” dollar amount to spend on wedding favors?

Well duh. There is no right amount. What is right for me, isn’t necessarily right for you. It depends on a lot of things. How much value do you place on having a favor at all, how important are they in terms of your decor, how much of a budget are you working with, how big is your guest list and what might need to be sacrificed to purchase the favors.

Generally speaking? Most couples spend $2-$3 per piece which if you look at national average, generally translates to about 2% of your overall budget.

What should we think about when deciding on a favor?

The first thing is if you have the budget for favors. The second, is what you want your favor to represent. You can think local and create little jars of local honey or jam, you can create a CD with your favorite music, you can send petite succulents wrapped in pretty paper for a boho chic wedding. For a family oriented wedding, consider gifting a family recipe either printed on beautiful recipe cards or attached to a small version of the recipe itself (like these mini pound cakes). For an elegant affair, make your own very chic and simple candle.

Bottom line, is to think about the part of you, your relationship, your wedding theme, the season (christmas ornaments are adorable for Winter weddings) or the location that you most want to share. That will leave a lasting and memorable impression on your guests.

How can I make my wedding favors unique and not something guests will just toss or forget about?

Favors people often toss: mini bubbles, small picture frames with you inside, anything that is difficult to transport, anything with your name on it, anything that belongs in a set (think coasters, wine glasses, etc), anything that feels like a trinket – plastic bottle openers, etc.

Here are my general rules: If you can eat it, drink it or (maybe) plant it … it’s going to be a WINNER. Everything else is a bit of a risk.

The best? Donuts, warm chocolate chip cookies and ice cold milk, local jams/honeys/maple syrups, olive oils, Cold to-go Champagne (or any alcohol for that matter), local confections, cocktail making kits, you get the drink. I mean drift.

After choosing the favor itself, it’s the personalization that will ultimately make the favor feel like it’s a natural and organic part of your wedding. A beautiful watercolor wrap over a bar of chocolate, a family recipe tied to a bottle of olive oil, Limoncello packaged up with your unique formula on the label, a beautiful backdrop that invites people over to see what you’re gifting. You can print out your own labels to add to purchased favors or you can start from scratch entirely and get your girls together to make, bake, craft, stick and tie.

Any great favor companies online that you would recommend?

I honestly think the best favors are homemade. Even if your wedding cost a zillion dollars. Or if your wedding planner actually home-makes them. The purpose of a favor is to thank your guests and much like thank you cards, you can always order them but those that are crafted with TLC will always mean a little bit more.

That said, Etsy is a great place to find goods that have that handmade feel that favors beg for. Read reviews and make sure you can get them in time b/c most everything is indeed…handmade. Oriental Trading and Beau Coup and all of the other favor sites have gems tucked inside, you just have to be willing to do a little digging.

Local Farms, Farm Stands, Wineries, Breweries & Restaurants are sometimes willing to help and often have great prices. Amazon’s marketplace is probably the single best place to find good deals on really cool favors. Garden supply and Home Improvement stores sell inexpensive plants and seeds. Local bakers, donut shop owners, confectioners and chocolatiers will sometimes sell you wholesale priced goods or just above.

Questions to ask yourself before committing to a wedding favor:

-What is my overall budget for favors including shipping, packaging, personalizing, filling, extra pieces etc.
-When in the evening should we give out favors – if they are on the dinner plate or at the place setting, no one has to physically ensure that your guests receive them but you run the risk of guests forgetting them. Setting them up on a small table near the exit with a planner or friend ensuring that every guest receives one is another great option.
-Will my guests use/love this because if not, it might be a waste.
-Does the favor tell the guests a little something about myself?
-IF you have guests that travelled, will they be able to get the favor home easily?
-How can I personalize the favor and make it fit within the look, style and feel of our wedding?

Colorful Brunch Wedding Inspiration at The Farm at South Mountain

Spring and summer brides (and grooms), I know you’re out there. Planning away and waiting for the warmer months to arrive. And while it may feel like there’s one too many slices of festive holiday inspiration going around, we’ve got you today—with this fresh, bright and colorful dose of pretty from Leslie D Photography and Konsider It Done. Blooms from Sarah’s Garden, so poppy you could almost eat them, a table set in La Tavola linens, an outdoor ceremony setting graced in golden sun, and so much more.

From the Designers/ Planners, Kris & Tyler Zeman of Konsider It DoneWith the popularity of brunch weddings on the rise, brunch was the leading inspiration behind this shoot. Vibrant and natural colors was the second. For the cost conscious couple, brunch weddings pose the best compromise of on-trend and on-budget. For the same reason brunch weddings have become such a craze, we predict they’ll remain a wedding mainstay for years to come. Because really, who doesn’t love brunch? A pop of color, bubbly, breakfast food, and love! Best served before noon.

From the can-I-drink-them-all cocktails, to the towering crepe cake, and the stunning floral arrangements, we can’t get enough! Bright pinks, oranges, yellows, and greens… A palette inspired by, and then surrounded by delicious foods. No detail was left untouched and Leslie of Leslie D. Photography captured it all perfectly on film.

A local favorite for their farm to table cuisine, The Farm at South Mountain also provided the quintessential oasis in the desert for the shoot. A one of a kind luscious green, botanical ambiance in the middle of the desert – it was the perfect backdrop for the day.

Sarah’s Garden brought the brightest of the bunch, creating eye popping combinations of color that graced the luscious tablescape and a ceremony arch that could have stolen the show.

Set atop the luxurious Nuovo Peach linen from La Tavola, was the original inspiration for the entire design. The new blush Olivia linen, we used for the napkins. You heard that right – the entire design was sprung from the napkin print. Every standout needs the right backdrop, and we couldn’t be happier with how the napkin and the linen support each other in this design.

These days, you don’t need everything to be custom to be extraordinary, and the semi-custom paper in this shoot from Foil & Ink perfectly demonstrates that. We love an option that saves some money, and still includes detail like watercolor and can include gold foil, embossing, and cotton paper. Classy and budget friendly, the winningest of combinations.

With such a bright table, bursting with floral and food, we had to phone a friend for some complementary textures and colors. Both Event Rents and The Confetti Studio answered the call, providing accents in spades. Adding natural elements like wood chargers, breadboards, and bowls, paired with ornate crystal glassware, we kept comfort and classy in harmony. Linen and wooden chairs supported an off-white plate combo featuring stunning detail, flanked by vintage flatware. All in, we can’t picture a more brunch-worthy combination.

Is it even brunch without a good cocktail? Couple of Bartenders doesn’t think so. Matching the colors and textures perfectly, they complimented each seat with a unique cheers-worthy and potent creation.

And the food. Oh the food. Brunch wouldn’t be brunch without more tempting food than one should ever eat. And since this was brunch, we tossed out the traditional cake for a towering stack of ombre colored crepes, by Dessert First by Veronica. “I hate donuts” said no one, so cake donuts and jelly filled donut holes joined the spread, helping ensure no sweet tooth was left behind.

In the end, we found ourselves reflecting on the brunch wedding trend and thinking to ourselves that it’s popular for a reason. Surround by the most quintessential love event (wedding) and the most nom-worthy of foods (brunch), what could go wrong? Cheers to the perfect couple. Weddings & brunch, that is.

Fall Fiesta Bridal Shower for Blogger Bride, Gabi!

Yes, indeed… let’s taco ’bout it! If you’re my kinda gal (and obviously Gabi’s kinda gal), you love a taco/Corona situation so naturally I was blown away by this super fun bridal shower idea, planned by Kelly Golia! In a departure from the more traditional bridal shower, guests were greeted with bright pops of color and an autumnal spin on this tropical vibe. You can go ahead and consider me obsessed with these fun pics by K. Engel Photography

From Event Planner Kelly GoliaMy dear friend Gabi (a SMP Blogger Bride) is getting married (!!!), and I recently got to serve double duty as bridesmaid and event designer as we planned her taco-inspired bridal fiesta! Gabi loves tacos, so it seemed like the perfect treat to inspire her special day. The entire day was captured perfectly by Kendra of K. Engel Photography, and florals from Bloom 52 brought the tented backyard soiree to life.

Each guest was greeted by their name handwritten beautifully on terra cotta pieces by Molly Grace Makes, and had a blast participating in a DIY flower crown bar (another brilliant idea by Katie of Bloom 52)! A build-your-own taco bar from Loco Taqueria was as yummy as it sounds, and we topped off lunch with homemade churro-flavored mini cheesecakes in honor of the bride-to-be’s favorite dessert.

A taco wall by yours truly displayed taco samples, and the cherry on top of the entire space was the flawless balloon installation by Boston Balloon Factory. While tacos were the main inspiration for all of the decor, we wanted to stray from the typical “tropical” theme that usually is associated with our favorite food. So we swapped monstera leaves for pampas grass and straw flower to give the day a more fall-like flare.

And can we talk about those dahlias? Sourced locally and perfection in every. Single. Way. I absolutely love how the warm, colorful petals complemented the blue and white striped linens so wonderfully (another Gabi staple – the girl loves her blue and white stripes!). And when even the food becomes part of the decor, like the way the color of those corn chips tie in so seamlessly, you know you’ve got a real fiesta on your hands. It was a perfect late September day for our sweet bride, and we can’t wait to celebrate her wedding day in November!

The Prettiest Mountaintop Wedding We’ve Ever Seen at San Sophia Overlook

Don’t mind us, we’ll be staring at this wedding captured by Hannah Mayson wishing we got an invite ’till the end of time. If you’ve never heard of the San Sophia Overlook before – then you’re in for a treat! An abundance of greenery and white blooms by Dahlia Floral Design lined the aisle as the bride stunned in her Ines Di Santo dress and cape(!!). There are a million things to love about this mountaintop dream planned by Meehan Fee – but if we had to choose just one… it’s the bride’s infectious smile.

After meeting in passing during their college years, Shelton had always had an eye on Alissa but it wasn’t until a few years post grad that he finally asked her to dinner. You could say dinner went well, because that same night he decided to introduce her to his sister and brother in law to get the family ‘stamp of approval.’

Everyone quickly fell in love with Alissa’s vivacious personality and constant smile.

Alissa chose her Ines di Santo wedding gown because she first fell in love with the drama of cape. With bridesmaids in varying shades of blue, they matched the foggy mountain scenery perfectly.

With so much of their relationship history pegged back to family trips to Telluride (and a surprise proposal on charming Main Street!), Alissa and Shelton decided it would be the perfect place to bring their friends and family for a week of celebrating, hiking, fly fishing and golfing.

After the wedding ceremony on the mountaintop, guests took a gondola down to happy hour at the Peaks Resort where they saw the most stunning sunset. Dinner was very classy, with elegant florals and gold rimmed plating.

To spruce up the dance floor area, Meehan (of Telluride Unveiled Wedding Planning) designed the ceiling to be a focal piece of the room, with greenery and lanterns suspended above.

Romantic and Refined Estate Wedding Inspiration at Kestrel Park

If you’re like me and are obsessed with the quaint charm and utter romance of the english countryside (The Holiday anyone?!), then you’re about to fall in love with this Kestrel Park wedding inspiration from Natalie Choi Events. We were shocked when we found out Kestrel Park is located in Santa Ynez… yet another win for the Golden State! A slate blue and peach color scheme gave the floral arrangements by The Loved Co feelings of warmth and tenderness. Every photo captured by Nathalie Cheng Photography is oh-so dreamy. Read on and prepare to be swept away…

Romantic, warm, and intimate are all words that come to mind when I think about Nathalie Cheng‘s photography and Kestrel Park in Santa Ynez was the natural setting to showcase it. The golden hills, charming barn, and English countryside-esque estate of Kestrel Park was the perfect backdrop for this romantic and refined wedding inspiration.

In order to reflect the natural beauty of the lush ground at Kestrel Park, I selected a simple but elegant gown from Alexandra Grecco that featured delicate floral appliques for our bride. Her hair was effortlessly swept up into a low updo, and her natural beauty was accentuated with a makeup look that focused on making her skin look flawless.

Our dapper groom was outfitted in a smart tux, and the simple elegance of our couple was reflected in the invitation suite created by Plume Calligraphy with handmade paper and flowing script.

Their dinner table was set with elements that reflected our organic and romantic design: wooden dinner plates, lace-patterned chargers, and vintage pressed glassware placed atop velvet napkins and a pale blue linen tablecloth. Lush, whimsical florals in peach and honey tones arranged by The Loved Co. adorned our bride and dinner table.

The dove grey cushioned cane-backed chairs added a nod to colonial European style, completing our intimate dinner presentation. At sunset, our couple headed to the golden hills surrounding the estate, and our bride changed into a flowing pale blue gown by Leanne Marshall which glowed in the warm light.
