A Modern Mountain Wedding in Summer at North Star Gatherings

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]From the bride: “Original colors would’ve been a lot of cream, white & ivory florals with luscious greenery. However, after choosing our venue we added complimentary soft color palette of soft blush, mauve and champagne (with navy accent to complement the grooms tux), to enhance the stunning natural landscape at NSG. We focused all decor into our florals, and our floral proposal from Floral Wild was beyond perfect! When asked wedding colors I would send the floral inspiration. All ladies chose their dresses accordingly and they nailed it, it looked so stunning!”[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]From the bride: “Being in the mountains is a place we enjoy to escape to. The vision was a classic and elegant, modern mountain wedding. We searched and searched for the perfect venue without the rustic Rocky Mountain vibe. As soon as we came across NSG it was stunning and perfect in every way possible. We booked it before even seeing it in person.”[/field]

Emily and Ted ensured that their wedding guests had a wide range of food options that showcased Maine’s flavors. They included vegan options as well as seafood that was underutilized and sustainably sourced from the Gulf of Maine. Most of the ingredients used in the food were grown on-site or sourced locally.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Beach Plum Floral created stunning wedding florals with a color scheme inspired by shades of blue and green. All flowers were sourced sustainably from local sources, and natural textures were incorporated into the arrangements. The florals were designed without foam or plastic mechanics and included various plants and herbs that could be planted after the wedding, creating a lifelong memory of the special day. The bride was committed to having an eco-friendly wedding, making the use of sustainable materials a crucial element in the floral design. The Sperry sailcloth tent created an enchanting ambiance, elevated by the exquisite embroidered linens from Stradley Davidson Linen Collective, which added a touch of elegance and sophistication to the space. The tabletop rentals from Peak Event Services seamlessly integrated into the overall design scheme, while bespoke paper goods from Ivory Isle Designs incorporated the intricate embroidered pattern from the linens into their paper designs. Peak Event Services added to the atmosphere by providing a new bar and back bar in a coordinating sage green tone, which served as a captivating focal point within the tent. The harmonious blend of linens and rentals transformed the tent into a captivating haven, where guests could revel in the beauty of their surroundings while enjoying the festivities of the celebration.

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]They chose a seasonal, local flavor for their wedding cake – spice cake with maple cream cheese icing – adorned with florals matching the rest of the design.[/field]

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

Nestled along the picturesque coastline of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, the Inn By The Sea was the perfect venue for the wedding of Emily and Ted. The couple had first met as college sweethearts at Colby College in Maine and they wanted to return to where their love story began, surrounded by their closest loved ones. With meticulous attention to detail, the talented team at Kate Murtaugh Events & Design flawlessly orchestrated their fall wedding, resulting in a breathtaking celebration that will be cherished for years to come.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

When Emily and Ted started planning their wedding, they were determined to make sustainability and eco-consciousness their top priorities. They wanted to ensure that their celebration aligned with their values of conservation and responsible consumption. They carefully selected locally sourced and seasonal flowers and plants and selected decorations crafted from recycled materials. They also made a conscious effort to minimize the use of single-use plastics. Choosing Inn By The Sea as their venue was an obvious choice due to the hotel’s commitment to blending luxury and service with environmental preservation. Emily and Ted were inspired by the hotel’s mission to minimize its ecological impact and appreciated its dedication to using local resources. The hotel’s commitment to sustainability wasn’t just limited to its mission statement. Its culinary offerings and indigenous gardens further supported Emily and Ted’s eco-friendly endeavor by providing locally sourced food and fostering wildlife habitats. By choosing Inn By The Sea, Emily, and Ted were able to not only enjoy their special day in a beautiful setting but also reflect their deep respect for the planet and its resources.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

The wedding ceremony took place on the main lawn of the Inn By The Sea, which provided breathtaking views of Cape Elizabeth. The designers aimed to create a space that seamlessly blended with the surrounding conservation lands to ensure that the natural beauty of the area remained the focal point. Beach Plum Floral created a beautiful ground arch using a collection of baskets and vessels, arranged in an artful manner to embrace the couple as they exchanged their vows. This thoughtful design framed the ceremony space and blended effortlessly with the surrounding landscape, enhancing its beauty instead of detracting from it. In a display of sustainability and creativity, these pieces were repurposed later in the evening in front of the band, serving as a charming backdrop that echoed the natural elegance of the ceremony. This seamless integration of design elements added a touch of whimsy and continuity to the celebration, further enhancing the enchanting ambiance of the occasion.

You’ll Love The Garden-Centric Charm At This Point Loma Elopement Editorial

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”The Inspiration”]

The vision was to bring to life an intimate backyard wedding dream, and upon encountering the Cape Cod-style home adorned with its lush walls of greenery both on the porch and patio, one couldn’t help but feel whisked away to the enchanting world of “The Secret Garden.” This nostalgic ambiance guided many design decisions, from the incorporation of a vintage rose motif and blush plates to the selection of nude and earthy tones for glasses, flatware, and decor. We wanted everything on the tabletop to balance the modern upgrades within the private venue while showcasing garden-centric charm. Among the array of design elements, one stood out as a personal favorite—the jasmine-scented candles. These carefully chosen candles added a layer of sophistication and sensory delight, elevating the overall experience and enhancing the ethereal atmosphere of the occasion. In curating the floral arrangements, our aim was to evoke the feeling of freshly picked blooms from a garden, adding an authentic touch to the ambiance.

Chic And Classic Alabama Wedding In The Summer

The wedding colors are Ivory/White, Black, and Gold Accents.

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

There were two specific visions in my head while dreaming of my wedding. First, I did not want people to be able to tell in which year we were married. Second, I did not want to pick details seen on repeat at other events. I tried to stray away from choosing extremely trendy elements, whether it be small details, color palettes, bridesmaids’ dresses, my hairstyle, and every detail in between. I kept thinking about the day that my children and grandchildren would look back at our wedding photos and hoping they would see our collaborative efforts in a timeless way. The design elements I chose stand the test of time and will still be elegant and classy fifty years down the road. I kept thinking back on wedding photos and the overall vibe aligning with classic brides like Jackie Kennedy and Grace Kelly. I wanted every moment to be extremely elegant and classy but also dramatic and glamorous. I opted for an optional black tie dress code, which fit the overall vision I had for the wedding perfectly.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

In the fall of 2016, we met briefly at the University of Alabama. By the end of the semester, we were talking for the first time. We mutually attended the same college church service on Thursday nights, and J.R. played guitar during the worship portion of the service. In passing, we would see each other. Towards the end of the semester, we would both seem to find reasons to linger and talk to each other after the service. The conversations were not flirty because, at the time, I had a boyfriend. We instantly talked about very deep topics, and we felt like we had known each other for much longer than just a few run-ins at church. Our magnetic attraction was mutual and natural. This made it easy for us to want to be near one another. When J.R. went home for Christmas break a few weeks later, he told his mom he had talked to the girl that he was going to marry one day. Fast forward to the spring semester of 2017, I ended that relationship I was in and also joined the worship team for vocals. When I did see J.R. after the rehearsals were over and in between, he was definitely shy towards me and didn’t talk too much. He would, however, always sit near me, and I would catch a few side glances. I noticed the conversations we used to have before Christmas break did not seem to happen as much, and I missed them. One night after rehearsal, I had a 7 p.m. final exam for my English class, so I had to go straight to the exam after rehearsal. That night, I had a courageous feeling come over me to ask J.R. to call out my study guide questions for my exam. We ended up getting to question number two before we got carried away into a long, deep conversation that you usually only have with someone who is going to be in your life for a very long time. It felt different. I lost track of the time and barely made it to my exam on time! A few weeks later, J.R. called me and told me he had feelings for me and wanted to pursue me, not just to go on dates with me, but felt like I was the one who God had for him. It was the first and only time I had ever been told so clearly by a guy what his intentions were, and I respected him so much for the way he handled it. After the spring semester ended, I landed an internship with the Rick and Bubba radio show based in Birmingham. J.R. is from Birmingham, so this allowed us to spend many days together that summer, and we officially began a serious relationship. J.R. proposed in September of 2021. He was living in Houston, Texas, at the time, and we had been in a long-distance relationship for about a year and a half. It was challenging, but we both never had doubts about our future, and both just looked at it as a season that would not last forever. Because of the space between us, the times that he would come to Birmingham were planned well in advance. I had a very busy schedule that summer, so my open weekends were limited. There was an obvious weekend that I kept thinking, “If he is going to propose this summer, this is the only weekend I could imagine him doing it.” A few days before that weekend, J.R. had convinced me he was very sick and went so far as to fake cough and tell me he had an awful virus that kept him out of work. He’s a mysteriously great fake cougher! So, the last weekend I had thought I would get engaged was a no-go. That same week, on Friday at about 4:00 p.m., my best friend showed up at work. It absolutely felt like an out-of-body experience because she lives in Indiana and had driven to Birmingham since 4 a.m., so I really couldn’t believe my eyes. She came with my makeup bag, the yellow dress I had always wanted to wear for my proposal, and letters from my family and best friends. Her arrival left me with plenty of time to get ready, pull myself together, and read the most precious letters from my favorite people. She drove me to the neighborhood where J.R.’s family lives. On the way, she pulled off to a beautiful barn in a grassy field. He was waiting there for me with a new bible with my new name on it. He had written the final letter and read it to me before he asked me to marry him. I have the letter framed and read it all the time. Afterward, we headed to his family’s house, where our family and friends were all waiting to surprise us!

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]

My gown was designed by the tremendously talented Anne Barge. It was fitted with a sweetheart neckline, gorgeous stitching at the waist, and a dramatic pleated bottom with a long train and buttons going down the back. I had always wanted a massive train, so we added a couple of feet to the original dress. The dress originally came in a crisp white, but I knew I wanted to have a dress that wasn’t completely plain at the same time. Anne Barge has an embroidery pattern called “confetti” that I was so drawn to and wanted to incorporate into the dress, but I didn’t want it to overpower the dress itself. My mom and I had an idea of adding the embroidery on the train and back of the dress to add the perfect “wow” factor! Carolyn in The White Room is an angel on earth and hand-embroidered the material onto the back of the dress. They helped me make my dress one-of -a-kind and getting to design part of it myself made me cherish it even more. I chose a long veil with a blusher and included the same confetti pattern that was embroidered on my dress. Everything came together so perfectly, and I could not have dreamt up a more dramatic and classic dress. My earrings were made by SJ Bailey Co., who specializes in designing bridal earrings. We worked together on the design of my pearl drop earrings together and added the smallest amount of rhinestone accents. They complemented the overall look perfectly. I even matched my earrings to my shoes, closed pointed-toe white satin heels with pearl and rhinestone accents by Jimmy Choo. Although I deeply loved all of these details, my favorite accessories were the heirloom jewelry belonging to my mother and grandmother. I wore my mother’s sapphire and diamond band on my right hand; this was a gift from my father on their five-year anniversary. I had admired this ring my entire life, and she surprised me the week of the wedding by getting it sized to fit my finger so that I could wear it on my wedding day. My grandmother’s wedding ring was pinned to the silk on my bridal bouquet, and she got to be with me every step of the way.

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]

My bridesmaid’s dresses were designed by Amsale. They wore black strapless gowns with a fit-and-flare silhouette and folded detail on the neckline. I loved how timeless and dressy they looked. I have always loved the combination of black and white and wanted to incorporate that in their dresses somehow. We had our seamstress create silk ivory bands to go around the waist of each dress, which I had never seen before, and I loved how much it elevated the overall look! My mom was an absolute vision in her ice blue shantung silk dress that complimented her sapphire blue eyes perfectly. She had a vision for the dress – a one-shoulder neckline, fitted silhouette, and a stunning train. Victory Bridals in Florence was able to make my mom’s vision come to life. A sapphire bracelet and a sapphire and diamond necklace tied the look together so beautifully.

[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]For the ceremony, J.R. wore a custom-fitted black and white tuxedo with a black bowtie, cummerbund, suspenders, and black dress shoes. After the ceremony, he exchanged his tux jacket for a white dinner jacket and wore that for our sunset photos and the reception. I absolutely adored the white dinner jacket and it was the perfect element of classic glamour. The groomsmen also wore traditional black and white tuxedos with black bow ties, cummerbunds, and black dress shoes.[/field]

When cocktail hour began, the guests were greeted with hors d’oeuvres consisting of pimento cheese crostini, mini lump crab cakes, and Conecuh sausage skewers. We had an open bar featuring a Yellowhammer as our signature drink, the staple beverage of the University of Alabama, as a nod to where our love story began. I also wanted to have a coffee bar for the guests to give them a little caffeine boost if they needed it before the band struck up because I wanted nothing more than to dance the night away with my family and friends! We opted for a seated dinner with a bread service and wedge salad to start, followed by a dinner of braised peppercorn short ribs, mashed potatoes, and roasted brussel sprouts. Later during the reception, we passed out Chick-fil-A chicken sandwiches as a late night snack, these proved a crowd favorite!

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

From my bouquet to the bridesmaid’s bouquets, to the arch on the altar, and everything in between, I knew I wanted my flowers to be all white. I wanted each arrangement to look very crisp. As much as possible, we used baby’s breath, white delphinium, and stock instead of leafy greenery. The flowers, especially with all of the baby’s breath, gave the entire ceremony and reception an airy, dream-like feel that proved simply unreal. Upon entering the ceremony, the guests were greeted with all-white floral wreaths on the doors consisting of garden roses, hydrangeas, calla lilies, white delphinium, and stock with a monogrammed sash at the bottom. Next, they walked under an arch of baby’s breath before being greeted by ushers. Baby’s breath lined both sides of my custom painted aisle runner and made the room feel so heavenly. My bouquet was solely luscious white peonies with clean cut stems wrapped in a monogrammed silk wrap. The bridesmaids’ bouquets featured a stunning mix of classic white flowers, including garden roses, calla lilies, hydrangeas, white delphinium, stock, and baby’s breath. The mothers and grandmothers carried small bouquets of white calla lilies with crisp stems. Calla lilies have always held a special place in my heart; they are my mother’s favorite flower and also were the ones she used at her wedding. I knew from the beginning of my planning journey that I would include this flower throughout our design. J.R. and my father wore calla lily boutonnieres. The rows of baby’s breath lining the aisle drew your eyes forward to the most jaw-dropping floral arch that encompassed us standing on the altar. The arch was curved in shape, consisting of baby’s breath, white garden roses, and white hydrangeas. I was simply at a loss for words with such a dreamy, textured, and clean color scheme. These different tones of heavenly white made the room feel like it was floating. For the reception centerpieces, we chose to alternate a few different floral designs that all felt cohesive. The room was flipped during cocktail time, so when you re-entered the reception, a long head table sat where the original aisle was during the ceremony. We filled in a lush and long row of baby’s breath down the length of the table. There is something so glamorous about the baby’s breath that continued to take my breath away in every place it was used. On the round and rectangular tables surrounding the oversized head table, we alternated the heights of each centerpiece. A few tables had tall, dramatic calla lilies; a few had tall mixed arrangements with white florals similar to the bridesmaid’s bouquets; and a few had short, wide vases of baby’s breath to match the head table. Equally as beautiful as the arch inside was the circular floral ring suspended over the dance floor on the terrace for the reception. The white stock, white roses, and white delphinium dangled downward, giving it a misty and romantic feel. Baby’s breath from the aisle runner was repurposed to line the top and bottom of the band stage. The high-top tables outside, the bars, and the restroom vanities had medium-sized mixed white floral arrangements and julep bud vase arrangements to bring the vibe of the dreamy florals to every corner of the reception.

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

Diane Olexa from Olexas Cafe is an absolute magician. I was utterly obsessed with my wedding cake, and the best part was that it actually tasted as amazing as it looked. But with the complexity of our design, the magnitude of how jaw-dropping the cake simply took my breath away. It was a solid white and smooth seven-tiered cake. Diane placed sheets of rice paper along the sides and conformed them to meet the curves of the cake. She painted the edges of the rice paper gold, and it was so beautiful it almost looked like crystals popping out of the cake. Words can’t even properly describe how glorious it was. The cake table stood on the white altar we used during our ceremony, with the flower arch in the background. It was the only proper setup for a cake that was so gorgeous! To this day, I have never seen a wedding cake like that.

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

Cahaba River Strings in quartet played our pre-ceremony and ceremony music. The grandmothers and mothers walked down the aisle to “Ave Maria,” and the wedding party walked down to “Canon in D;” My entrance with my father was the traditional “Bridal Chorus.” During the communion, the quartet played “The Blessing.” We opted for a traditional service, and we exchanged traditional vows with wedding rings. Our first dance song was “On My Way to You” by Cody Johnson, who is our favorite singer. My father-daughter dance song was one that will go down in the books! It was “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde” by Travis Tritt. My dad gave a brief speech before we danced, explaining the special meaning behind it. When I was little and was in my car seat in the back of his truck, he would play this song, and we would sing it to the top of our lungs together. It has always been “our song,” and we sang it as loud as we ever have that night! The mother-son dance was “Humble and Kind” by Tim McGraw. J.R. and I shared a last dance as our guests lined up for the send-off to Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” Brother 2 Brother was the band for the evening, and they were absolutely unbelievable! They are the reason nobody left the dance floor all night long!

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

My mom is easily the most talented human being I have ever known. I have grown up watching her complete calligraphy project after project for weddings and commission pieces. She teaches classes for a global audience, has collaborated with Crane Stationery, and even co-edited The Speedball Textbook, 25th Edition. She is incredibly esteemed and admired in her field and is known for her one-of-a-kind flourishing that can be mimicked but never replicated. She has created her own calligraphy scripts and written a curriculum that is world-renowned. I’m not saying this because she’s my mom, but she’s absolutely the best calligrapher there is. She is so precious and would never brag on herself, so I’m going to! It’s honestly hard to summarize her talents in a paragraph because they are truly so immense. Her gorgeous work speaks for itself. We have always talked about how much fun we would have designing my wedding suite and wedding calligraphy my whole life and getting to actually sit down and brainstorm was a memory I would forever cherish. Of course, your wedding invitation will always be so special, but for mine to be handwritten by my mom, who has impacted so many people, makes the excellence of it simply incomprehensible. I had a vision for my wedding, but my mom knew exactly how to translate that vision into all of the paper details for the wedding. Trusting her vision included her creation of our invitation suite, cocktail napkins, rehearsal dinner invitations, bridal shower invitations, aisle runner, place cards, seating chart, and so much more. Her artistic touch was in every element of the entire weekend. She deserves all the praise and recognition in the world! Here are the specific details of our wedding suite: paper is from Arzberger Stationers; the stationer we used is Ledgewood Fine Stationery; the entire suite was hand-calligraphed by Suzanne Cunningham Calligraphy (my mama). The envelope liner was black with a hand illustration of our wedding venue in gold foil by Angelly Nissel, founder and creator of Leslie & Paper. The calligraphy done by my mom was a flourished Copperplate script featuring custom flourishes. Each element of the suite was double thick with a hand-painted gold beveled edge. The details card, accommodations card, map card, and reply card were custom sized by Arzberger Stationers; the map card had a custom-drawn map by Graham Carraway of J. Graham Studios. The wedding invitation featured a personalized guest line so that each recipient got to have their own custom invitation with their name hand-calligraphed on it (one of my favorite parts of the suite!). The crest at the top of the invitation was a custom drawn monogram by Graham Carraway of J. Graham Studios. The vellum enclosure on the outside of the suite was wrapped in gold twine and featured a custom wax seal by ARTISAIRE with our wedding date on it. So many creative juices went into making this suite absolutely spectacular, and it has never been done before. I will cherish this element of the wedding so much; every part of it is intertwined with so much love and care!

[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

After dating for six years, it’s only natural for me to envision our first look many, many times. Actually, experiencing this moment was something I’ll simply never forget. The first look was the first moment that day that it hit me: Our wedding day is here, and it is real. We shared handwritten letters, and the moment was authentic and precious.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]I had always said I wanted my wedding reception to be a big party and wanted the guests to not want to leave the dance floor. It was a priority to book a great band and have the ideal reception set up for that, and multiple people ended up telling me after the wedding it was the most fun they’d ever had. I personally never left the dance floor after the mother-son dance was over, and it was so packed with people throughout the night. Brother 2 Brother was the best wedding band I had ever heard, and there was never a lull in the night or in the music. It was genuinely the best party I’ve ever been to and filled with all of the people we love. My parents surprised us with a live painter to capture the moment of our first dance, and I will cherish that forever. I wish I could go back and do that over again a hundred times more![/field]

Traditional And Modern North Carolina Wedding on Bald Head Island

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

The wedding colors were pink, green, and white.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The vision behind the wedding was shades of pink with lots of lush pink florals and greenery mixed in. I wanted it to feel and match the energy and beauty of the island with the Spanish moss. It was glamorous and pretty but cool. Think NY girl gets married in the South.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]It all started when Aubrey and Peyton met in NYC on Aubrey’s birthday. Peyton asked her to dance at the Niagara bar in the East Village and the rest is history. Peyton proposed on same day they met 4 years later on top of a mountain in Boulder Co. It was Aubrey’s 30th birthday and they celebrated during a ski trip in Breckenridge – it was perfect![/field]

[field title=”Food & Drink”]

Rehearsal food was catered by Salt and Charm. Wedding food was provided by Shoals Club. We had numerous starters; the starter was a crab cake, and the entrees were either grouper fish or short rib. We had custom cocktails that were called “The Peyton”, which was a spicy margarita, “The Aubrey”, which was a vodka pineapple drink, and “The Dewey” who is our golden retriever named after Dewey Beach, Maryland. The famous drink in Dewey Beach is an Orange Crush so naturally, that was the drink!

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

The florals were designed by my design planner, Salt Harbor Designs. The inspiration behind them was doing an overhang over the head table of lush pink and white flowers with greenery mixed in. I wanted the greenery to look like moss coming down to fit the theme of Bald Head and the Spanish moss. Salt Harbor nailed it. It felt like we were floating in a sea of flowers! It was so dreamy. The ceremony flowers are classic, with white and green arbor flowers along the aisle. The bridesmaid flowers matched the girls’ dresses with pops of light and dark pink flowers. The decor was traditional modern. We had round tables throughout for our guests with a white Chivari chair. The head table was 1 long farm table covered with a gorgeous BBJ La Tavola tablecloth. The champagne and cake tables were also BBJ La Tavola in white, and then beautiful pink linen for the cocktail tables. The linens matched my wedding dress perfectly, with beautiful applique throughout.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

The wedding cake was three tiers from One Belle Bakery in NC. My inspiration was to surround the cake with the same-colored flowers (pink/white w/ greenery) to go with the overhanging flowers. It sat just in front of the head table and came out so beautiful. My favorite detail was having our dog Dewey’s head pop out of it, along with the little pearl accents.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]We had the same readings and ceremony music as my parents did. We had one family member on peyton’s side and mine to do readings. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

The special details throughout our wedding came from our Invitation suite designed by Ashley D Studio. She created a beautiful monogram for Peyton and me that I used on cocktail cups, napkins, matchboxes, and gifts for our guests. She even painted a beautiful portrait of our dog that we displayed on the bar with the cocktail menu. In addition to the cocktail menu and invitation suite, she helped to create the custom special cocktail menu ft. our dog Dewey, menu’s for peyton and I, and table numbers. MonogramMary created custom napkins for us, and Southern Bee Designs created a custom champagne bottle using our inspiration from our wedding invite.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

We had disposable cameras around the wedding for guests to take photos with. We also had an amazing photo booth with a guest book right outside of it. Our guests would take photos and then put 1 of them in the book and write a message. It was so special!

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

For “find your seat,” we made a special wall with shot glasses that said, “Take a sip, take a seat,” so people could enjoy our favorite shooter with our custom monogram on the shot glass. Guests were able to take them home with them!

An English Garden Wedding With a Tropical Twist at Cutlass Cove

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Blues, white, yellow, greenery[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]Being that Max is from England and Vivian is from Florida, the only proper conclusion was to go with a tropical English Garden vibe for the wedding.[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Vivian and Max met while attending Boston College in 2012. After graduation,
they moved to Los Angeles, where Vivian attended University of Southern California for
graduate school and to complete her fifth year as a collegiate track athlete. Meanwhile,
Max pursued a career in sports working for Los Angeles Football Club.
After a few years on the West Coast, Vivian decided to move back home to
Naples, Florida and launch her own jewelry line, Henri Noël. Vivian is a third generation
jeweler who specializes in creating bespoke engagement & wedding bands, in addition to her core jewelry collection. The family jewelry business was a staple of Vivian’s
upbringing and has been an inspiration to her own custom jewelry that holds
long-lasting value and memories.
For the proposal, Max flew in his two siblings to Charlotte, North Carolina, where
he was living at the time, and had his sister convince Vivian to head to Lake Norman to
model for her (she is a photographer and graphic designer for Casamigos Tequila). By
Vivian’s own admission, she’d do “anything for tequila”, so she was a willing participant.
Upon their arrival at Lake Norman, Max took Vivian to explore the lake while his
sister got in position to photograph the proposal. After a short walk, Vivian turned a
corner to find a gazebo decorated in rose petals. Right there and then, Max dropped
down on one knee and popped the question! Shortly thereafter, Max took Vivian to
dinner, where she was surprised by close friends and family.[/field]

[section title=”The Fashion”]
[field title=”Wedding Gown”]Vivian found her perfect dress early in the process – a Monique Lhuillier lace
gown paired with light blue Manolo Blahnik heels. During a shopping trip with her mom
in Miami, they shared a knowing smile when she tried on this gown, confirming it as
“the one.” Vivian once listened to a podcast once where Monique said, “If your dress is
not filthy at the end of the night, you didn’t do it right”. Vivian connected with those
words as she wanted a dress she wouldn’t want to take off all night but also one that was comfortable to move in. Vivian’s after party dress was a light blue Rachel Gilbert ruffle dress – she wanted to bring a pop of color to the night once she took her wedding dress off.[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]Vivian opted mismatched blue bridesmaids dresses to showcase each bridesmaid’s style, as well as for baskets rather than bouquets for that English garden feel. [/field]

[section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Food & Drink”]The signature cocktail was a ‘Spaghett’, a staple at the couple’s favorite restaurant in Charlotte, ‘Vana’. It mixes Miller High Life with Aperol, mimicking an Aperol Spritz, but replacing champagne with ‘The Champagne of Beers’, another subtle nod to the wedding’s elevated but informal feel.[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”] To help bring their English garden vision to life, the couple enlisted the help of Kehrin Hassan as their wedding designer. She helped the couple throw the wedding of their dreams by putting on a ceremony that felt elegant yet relaxed. Their tented beach wedding included a floral installation with elegant globe chandeliers that could almost pass for disco balls, which helped define the elegant yet fun ambiance. The tables were dressed with classic cutting boards tied in a blue bow. We displayed sliced lemons on top as a nod to Florida and a garnish to the guest’s iced waters. Then, to highlight the groom’s English side, our designer, sourced glass cloches filled with English bread pudding for . On the tables were lemons for nods to England and Florida with lemons and english pastries. [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]A simple white cake with beautiful florals[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]The ceremony was not traditionally seated, but instead included long benches
with accent pillows joined by areas for guests to stand. After the couple said “I do”, the
music immediately kicked in, setting the tone for a night of dancing, highlighted by
Max’s upbeat and choreographed dance with his mother, who herself used to be a
professional dancer.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Given that Vivian’s father is also a jeweler, Max had the perfect co-creator when it
came to the engagement ring. Together, they sorted, color-matched and set each of the
marquise diamonds to create this one-of-a-kind eternity band.

Her accessories were equally meaningful. In her job, Vivian specializes in
refreshing and revamping jewelry styles. She believes each piece of jewelry holds great
sentimental value. Vivian wore a bezel-set diamond necklace gifted to her mom by her

dad the day she was born (she shares the same birthday as her father). She wore
heart-shaped diamond studs, which she felt was the perfect amount of sparkle. Vivian’s
engagement ring is a 2.25ct xxx GIA certified Oval Diamond set in a four-prong head on
a 1.20ct Marquise Eternity Band. The design was made more unique by the marquise
diamond’s horizontal setting in a rose gold band
Her wedding band is a 4.50ct marquise & Emerald-cut eternity band set in 18k
white gold. Max’s band is a 3-piece 18k Gold Trinity Band that represents Vivian, Max,
and their union. As mentioned before, Max is from London, so Vivian put the Union
Jack on the inside of the band along with the words “Today and Always”.
Vivian had 9 bridesmaids, each with their own unique personality. As such, she
allowed them the freedom to choose their own dresses. And since no outfit is complete
without some Henri Noël jewelry, Vivian created an iconic earring that each of the girls
wore in the gold color of their choice.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]Once engaged, the couple decided on Cutlass Cove Beach in Vivian’s hometown of
Naples, FL for the wedding. After seeing the devastation caused by Hurricane Ian six
months prior, the couple was unsure if they could still have their wedding on the
property. Thankfully, however, with the help of close family friends, they were able to
restore the area just in time.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]The couple shook things up in the layout of their wedding. The space was small for a guest count of their size so their planner/designer suggested structuring the cocktail before the ceremony to set the tone for a laid-back impromptu ceremony that would not require seating for all since it would not fit. On their invites, they
told all guests the ceremony would start at 4pm but really they had the cocktail hour
before the wedding ceremony. This allowed the guests to take photos and get a little
loose before gathering around for the ceremony. [/field]

Flora Farms Wedding Weekend Overflowing With Immersive Details

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]We wanted every night of the wedding to feel like a new, immersive adventure for our guests. So we branded the whole wedding theme as CLUB STARK (as if they were going to an all-inclusive resort destination). All of our welcome bag goodies were branded with this CLUB STARK theme, including sweatshirts that we loved seeing everyone wear during the weekend.
Every night had a different color scheme, theme, and version of our wedding logo.

Welcome Party
Mexican Home Fiesta: *orange/hot pink/fruit color scheme*
The Cape Hotel. Staying true to Stark’s credo of creating authentic design experiences, we wanted the welcome party to feel like walking into a home’s foyer for the first time: everyone excited to explore what the weekend had in store. We were inspired by Mexican design & wanted to bring this beautiful culture to our guests, as well as create a comfortable atmosphere to start the weekend – making them feel like they were at home themselves. We created micro vignettes on The Cape’s rooftop with comfortable couches, chairs, coffee tables – and of course rugs! Each coffee table equipped with Mexican design books that acted as our guest books for people to sign as they sit. Collectors of design books ourselves, we’re excited to have these signed pieces as new, memorable additions to our collection. Other fun things include taco bar, mariachi band, twirling tequila girl (dressed in the themed colors) with a dress made of shot glasses for people to take.
GOAL: To create a warm environment for guests to mingle and get to know eachother.

Rehearsal Dinner
White Night: *whites and neutral nature colors*
We wanted to create an earth-inspired, white themed rehearsal dinner on top of this cliffside restaurant. As we had shared the colorful part of Mexico the night before, we wanted to share the earthy-side of Cabo’s beauty. Guests all dressed in white/neutrals. There was a white-washed tablescape with nods of earth-grounding elements like stones and tile table numbers, varied types of white flowers & rattan chandeliers that hungs from on invisible strings so it looked like they were dancing in the sky. Staying true to the Mexico-location, cocktail hour had a tequila tasting station – the couple’s favorite beverage. Keeping each person’s menu from flying away in the wind, a small stone was placed on each piece of paper to hold it down with their name cards. At the end of of the dinner, Chad & Louisa got up – and asked everyone to throw their stone in the ocean and make a wish, as they were getting up to dance. We wanted to bring even more magic. After a dinner and some speeches, a dance party began at the edge of the cliff with a DJ accompanied by a live saxophone player. We surprised guests with a fireworks show off the cliffside which people are still talking about! Warm churros were being served on the dance floor as people partied. It was almost impossible to get people to leave, even when the music stopped playing.
GOAL: This night was dedicated to the love – between Louisa & Chad, family, friends and life.

Wedding Day
Mystical Garden Party: *warmer pastels, lavenders, sunset colors and nods of gold*
Flora Farms is farm to table restaurant where everything comes fresh form the farm and is served farm-to-table. We wanted this to evoke a garden party soiree vibe that felt elegant and elevated, yet whimsical and playful with people dancing all night long. Since we had already had two nights of interactive experiences, we wanted to the wedding day & night to be an ongoing entertaining performance for guests as a thank you to them for being a part of our lives. We started with a warm-hearted, simple ceremony that was focused on personal connection & how grateful we were. The two pilars of this were 1) our dear best friend who introduced us, Lauren, officiating & 2) very personal vows shared. Many small details tied into the ceremony that were little nods to bring our story full circle (mentioned later on). Then after a cocktail hour warm-up, Louisa & Chad came out for 20 minutes of dancing to get everyone acclimated – and then the performances began: We had 2 parent speeches, a surprise Broadway-choreographed first dance (in detail below), a speech from Chad & I, Viva Band performances all night long, we projected a video of our Aspen wedding as a surprised during dinner, had Water Drummers come out shortly after, sparklers and shots come out as we were cutting the wedding cake, glasses and light-up flower crowns given out as people were walking out as a nod to the disco surprise after party, then a great performance by DJ SNBRN to end the night.[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]Why did you pick these venues? What did you most love about it/them?
We wanted an immersive experience for our guests where they felt they were transported into an intimate, magical world away from their everyday. We also loved the idea of having mountain views, as both of us love the outdoors and nature – so Flora Farms was the perfect option.

Today people go to a lot of weddings. Our main goal of the weekend is that this won’t be ‘just another wedding’ and will truly be a weekend our guests will never forget. A chic, unforgettable vacation with all your best friends vs. another wedding weekend. Approaching the wedding ’norms’ in a different way was important to us – looking at every opportunity to surprise & delight our guests. With this in mind, we made a point to include unique mementos at each touchpoint of the weekend to remind guests how much their friendship meant to us. As well, the end all goal was for this to be a weekend that people never forgot. To create a core memory that represented love, inclusion and made people feel life’s joy all weekend.

During quarantine, as Chad & I were building our relationship, we happened to be quarantining with 8 of our best friends in New Jersey. To make the weekends less bleak, we decided to theme our quarantine shared house ‘Club Stark’ – equipped with merch and themed events. With this sentiment, we decided for our wedding we wanted to bring Club Stark to Cabo – so there are several nods to Club Stark throughout the weekend – including custom Club Stark sweatshirts, playing card decks, bags, hats & a custom ‘Club Stark’ barn bar that includes club signs, club matchbooks, custom created rugs and lounges. Wouldn’t be a Stark wedding without custom designed rugs flown all the way to Mexico![/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]After many failed attempts at a friend trying to set us up due to different schedules, we finally met on a party’s dance floor in Tribeca at 1am. Introduced ourselves while dancing, and an hour later the mutual friend said, “Oh wow that’s the guy I’ve been trying to set you up with”. She is a dear mutual best friend who we coined to have introduced us. She was the officiant at our wedding, which made it very special.

Go engaged in Central Park at 7:30am in the morning on a workday (10/19/2021). Chad left after an hour of calling friends & celebrating, but made sure that every hour on the hour a flower bouquet, bigger than the next, was delivered ☺ That night Chad surprised me with a private omakase dinner with two of my best childhood friends at our apartment. That same week we were going to Las Vegas for a couple of events with a group of friends (and only one of my girlfriends). Little did I know, Chad surprised me by bringing and hosting 10 of my best friends and my brother for the weekend to celebrate!

Rehearsal dress designer: Custom Designed by Lauryn Kawasaki + Versace shoes
Wedding dress designer: Customized Ines Di Santo + Gucci Shoes
Wedding Fabric/description: Thin Chantilly lace with 100s of hand-embroidered pearls and mini floral applique detail. Off-the-shoulder, classic long sleeves. See pictures.

How did you know the dress was the one?
I tried on so many dresses and feel my style is very all over the place depending on my mood. Therefore, I knew it’d be impossible to find one specific style I liked. I’m more petite, so some of the dresses I loved would outshine or swallow me when I tried them on – even though I loved the beauty of them so much! Finally, when I tried on this dress I felt it was the one because it was very classic, clean and was a great balance of nods of details and accentuating me.

Any anecdotes from the dress-shopping experience?
I went to over 10 dress appointments to figure out what dress I wanted and was so indecisive! The first time I went to an appointment though was when my mom flew into NYC for a visit. Due to the day timing of the appointment, and it being last minute – it wasn’t possible to get any friends to come last minute. So my mom surprised me by FaceTiming 3 of my best friends into the appointment on her iPad.

CHANGE #1: Post Meridiem Dance Dress – This was actually a top that we made into a dress. I needed to be wearing something short, so Chad could throw me around and upside down several times. I even put on sparkly ballroom dancing shoes!
CHANGE #2: Custom made silk gown with open back pearl detail.
CHANGE #3: Custom 3-piece sequin pant set with special phrases written in amethyst stones – like nods to celebratinos in Mexico, the date of the wedding, and lyrics to the songs of their first dance & the song Louisa walked down the aisle to. Amethysts were a symbol of the weekend overall.

Shoes:
Welcome Event: Aquazurra heels got with Chad in Italy
Rehearsal Dinner: Versace Medusa Heels in pink for theme of the pink tourmaline
Wedding Ceremony/Reception: White Gucci platforms (with mini Italian ‘something blue’ stone)
Wedding After Party: Celine platform sneakers for the after party

[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]Please describe the bridesmaids’ attire. Why/how did you choose their fashion?
I didn’t want to have formal bridesmaids, as wanted all friends to feel included the whole weekend and feel they could enjoy the weekend vacation with few to none responsibilities. Iclose an organic, warm nature color palette that went with the garden theme of Festive Black Tie – and each friend who got ready with me chose their own dress. Everyone’s dress complimented eachother’s perfectly.

Bridesmaid dresses:
Every bridesmaid was able to pick their own dress, but some of the standout designers were Jacquemus, Andrea Almeida, V.Chapman, LoveShackFancy, etc. I loved that everyone got to showcase their own style. My top priority was that everyone felt beautiful and COMFORTABLE in their dress the whole evening. [/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]Please describe the groom’s attire:
The groom wore a classic, timeless Tom Ford tuxedo with a black tie and Tom Ford loafers.
He accented with 1942 bottle cuff links that were given to him as a friend’s groomsmen gift – as a nod to him meeting Louisa on the dancefloor at a party with 1942 in hand.
However, he did change into special padded Gucci tuxedo shoes for the dance portion to have better footing☺

[field title=”Food & Drink”]Please describe your menu. Any special food items you served?
We had a gorgeous 3 course farm to table meal at Flora Farms which is known for fresh produce. We both love farm to table, healthy living – so it was magical to share the beauty of this food with our guests. Also the hot brick-oven pizzas coming out on the dance floor was the cherry on top!
Louisa’s favorite dessert is s’mores – and many have been shared over the years of outdoor adventures with Louisa and Chad. So as guests were walking out of the party, as a car snack, on way to the after party – we handed out s’mores for the road!

Did you have a signature cocktail?
We had 3 signature cocktails. We both love tequila (so worked perfectly with Mexico) and Expresso martinis are a friend favorite to keep up everyone’s stamina throughout the evening. One thing about the Flora Farms cocktails is how gorgeously presented they are! We wanted to highlight this on the wedding night’s cocktail menu, so it was particularly fun designing custom sketches of our 4 signature drinks, to go alongside the cocktail descriptions. [/field]

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]What songs did you use for your processional and recessional? Did you have live musicians or recorded music?
Chad came out to A Thing Called Loved by Above and Beyond (his favorite artist). He always knew he wanted to walk down the aisle to this song as soon as he heard it (even before meeting Louisa).
Louisa came out to I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmoth. This is a special song & memory for Louisa & Chad. Louisa surprised Chad with choosing this song.

What entertainment did you have? Were there any special musical selections?
Welcome Party: We had a Mariachi Band & a Mexican tequila girl dressed in skirt that held shot glasses
For the Rehearsal: We had a DJ & saxaphone player that came onto the cliffside with everyone on the dancefloor
For the Wedding: We had an instrumental trio for the ceremony that played guitar, violin and piano
Viva Band 10 piece band for the stage dancefloor, water drums players, and flew in DJ SNBRN for the after party at The Cape Rooftop. We also played a video of our legal ceremony on a projector at dinner time as another surprise.
VIDEO SHOWCASE: As lovers of skiing, Chad’s parents got married on top of Aspen Ajax mountain 35 years ago in the snow on New Years weekend. As skiing is Chad’s #1 passion, he always shared the same dream to also get married on the top of Aspen mountain. Ski adventures and Aspen are such a big part of our lives, so knowing we were to do the legal portion of the wedding in the US, we followed Stark tradition and did the same. The Weekend of 2023 New Years, Chad & I got into wedding themed ski attire, shared poems and signed our marriage license just the two of us (a a photographer/videographer) – and skied down as married couple! We then went to Kemosabe to get my new initials engraved on a cowboy hat in true Aspen tradition ☺ This is the video we shared at the wedding to honor his parents journey and everything coming full circle.
DJ SNBRN: As we did meet at a rave in NYC at 1am – definitely wanted to throw a memorable after party. So we had SNBRN come to give an amazing set ona rooftop overlooking the Cabo ocean, that had light up CLUB STARK merch and even a face jewelry artist.

First dance song:
It was a mix of Brightest Lights by Lane 8 + Every Teardrop is a Waterfall by Swedish House Mafia/Coldplay Remix. Brightest Lights just came out when we first started dating & we’d listen to it all the time so had a special place in our heart.
*During Covid, which was a true test for our 6-month long relationship – we used the time like many making up Tiktok dances. I was always impressed at how good of a dancer Chad was. When it got to wedding planning we didn’t want to do a rehearsed dance unless it was another big entertainment moment for our guests, so we decided to surprise them with a massive choreographed dance. So we hired a broadway choreographer & rehearsed for 5 months prior and surprised every guest with an incredibly dynamic routine of lifts/twirls and more (both of us not dancers). I even had to get another dress specifically for the dance. It was a special time to learn something like that together.

Father-daughter dance song:
MY WISH – RASCAL FLATTS

Mother-son dance song:
YOU RAISE ME UP – JOSH GROBAN

Who walked you down the aisle?
Both of our parents walked us down the aisle. Proceeding us was our niece/nephew, sister/brother, and our cousins (3 flower girls). Louisa’s brother carried our 1 year old cousin, Elliott down the aisle as ring bearer

Did you write your own vows?
We did! It was one of the best parts of the wedding in my opinion.

Did they include any special quotes/anecdotes or readings?
Each were 6 minutes each so shared several anecdotes about how they got to where they are today. The main idea of Chad’s was, “If Louisa didn’t ski, they wouldn’t be together” and how he spent months trying to convince to win him over.

Not only is Chad a love for me, but also a great mentor. Therefore, my vows were in two parts: first, instead of vows, I framed the life lessons I had learned from Chad since we’d met. Then, I wrote a letter to my younger self on my wedding day – letting her know that she was going to meet a man like Chad. Happy to send if want more information!

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Special Touches Incorporated To Surprise Guests – Most Unique Part Of Weekend:
Amethyst Stone Bracelets: Being surrounded by tastemakers daily, Chad is constantly inspired by how designers create meaningful experiences. He wanted Louisa’s engagement ring to be no different, so Chad worked with Kwiat to make something unique. Underneath her center stone he designed a circle of diamonds and pink tourmaline stones. The pink tourmaline is the stone of the month of October – the month they met and got engaged. Set into an orbit, the design represents their never-ending, eternal love, circling each other in the stars forever. Louisa loved the meaning behing the crystal, so they decided to incorporate the stone of their wedding month (Amethyst) throughout the whole weekend. Most notably, as a nod to the ring’s special moment and as a thank you to our close family & friends, each guest at their wedding seat will be gifted a 14K gold-filled ball bracelet with an amethyst charm. We customized suede jewelry holders with our logo & inside put the bracelet, along with a note that shared the story of the ring & a thank you to friends/family being a part of our orbit. As not only is it the stone of February, but amethysts are also to help one nurture healthy, meaningful friendships. Louisa actually made them herself☺ See story below.
The amethyst color (purple) was embedded through the whole wedding too: The purple tones of the wedding day tablescape, the lavender flower being put at each place setting, purple nods woven into Louisa’s welcome party dress, the officiant’s amethyst-colored dress, & the amethyst stones that wrote out personal music quotes, memories and dates on Louisa’s after party dress.
Louisa’s Pink Rehearsal Dress: While everyone wore white on the rehearsal dinner, Louisa wore a custom-designed muted pink dress – as a nod to the pink tourmaline Chad put underneath her engagement ring.
Custom Rugs: Chad is the 3rd generation CEO of his family’s rug company. Seeing rugs are a big part of his family, we designed 2 large custom rugs with their wedding logos and shipped them all the way to Mexico for the wedding day! The inside barn at the wedding (bar + lounge area) was our ‘Club Stark’ for the wedding evening.
Rehearsal Napkins: Chad & Louisa both share a love for music and live concerts – they even met at a dance rave! To nod to this love, each of the rehearsal cocktail hour napkins had a different love lyric of some of their favorite songs. Guests who also shared love for similar artists loved walking through the beachside tables to find all the lyrics☺
Pearls On Wedding Day: As Louisa wanted spiritual meaning to be carried through each piece of the process, she knew she wanted pearls to be incorporate into her wedding day somehow. Pearls represent innocence, beauty, sincerity & most importantly new beginnings – so she felt this was perfectly symbolic for entering a new marriage. Therefore, Louisa added small nods of pearls throughout her whole wedding day ~ little pearls on her dress, 3 small pearls on the ceremony pamphlets, small pearls on the ring bearer pillow, pearl pins in her hair, pearl strands as the straps to her reception dress and matching pearls in her accompanying silk hair ribbon.
Cozy/Love Rehearsal: Going with the warm/love theme of Saturday night, each female guest was greeted with a shawl on their to keep them warm for the dinner by the ocean. Then when everyone got back to their hotel room, there were chocolates waiting for every guest to have as a nighttime treat.
Pilates Class: Louisa loves working out, especially on a busy vacation – so she wanted to bring that feeling you get post workout to all of of the guests. So she hosted a beachfront mat pilates class at The Cape Hotel where over 40 guests came to do pilates today before getting ready for the Rehearsal Dinner festivities.
After-Party Custom Outfit: Louisa wore a custom 3-piece sequin outfit designed for their DJ SNBRN rooftop disco that had little love details about the couple. Ex: The date of their wedding, their initials in a heart, the lyrics to their first dance song, the song Louisa walked down the aisle, let’s party written in Spanish, and more…
Aspen Video: As excited as we were to get married in Mexico, Chad always dreamt of getting married like his parents did: on the top of Aspen’s mountain. So the month prior we zipped into our wedding ski suits – mine an all white Cordova, and Chad’s a custom Tobe accented with a bow tie – and we signed our marriage certificate on top of Ajax mountain. We made an aisle overlooking the same slope as his parents stood on their wedding day 35 years ago. The videographer then skied down with us together – our first run as a married couple. I did a quick change into a western lace Paco Rabanne maxi dress, a vintage Ralph Lauren suede jacket and cowboy boots – where Chad wore a Zegna cashmere sweater, Saint Laurent suede jacket and Louis Vuitton boots. We wanted to be in western theme, as we went to Kemosabe to make hats with my new initials :) The video capturing this experience will be played on a projector during our wedding reception. There’s definitely a sand and snow theme, if you will, to the nuptials.
Dads’ Cuff Links: Both dad’s were gifted customized cufflinks on the eve of the wedding as a thank you present. The next day, they walked down the aisle with cufflinks that were B/W photos of Chad/His Dad and Louisa/Her Dad as kids together.
Custom Matchbooks/Lighting: To stick with the Club Stark bar theme truly feeling like a bar – Chad & Louisa shipped a large light-up CLUB STARK bar sign all the way to Mexico to set the vibe inside the barn area – and designed personalized Club stark matchbooks that sat in a classic glass bar vase. This truly set the tone to make it look and feel like a ‘Club Stark’
Chad’s Watch: Chad was surprised with a new Rolex watch while he was getting ready on the wedding day. It was a watch he had been searching for, for two years with the engraving, “to the ride of a lifetime – your lulu”
Nod To Design/Travel World: As design is a large piece of both their lives, Chad & Louisa wanted to approach guest books in a unique way. So we had Mexican coffee table books as our guest books, that we can treasure forever as aesthetic books in our living room.
Wishing Stones At Rehearsal: On the top of each menu at the Rehearsal dinner, we laid a small stone to hold down one’s name card. After dinner as people were about to get on the dancefloor, Chad and Louisa asked each guest to throw their stone into the ocean & make a wish (as dinner was cliff-side). This moment put people is a warm mood, which they loved!
Car Snack: When leaving weddings, they felt everyone is always hungry. So guests were surprised with S’mores (the bride’s favorite dessert) to eat on the 20-minute car ride home from the after party.
Fortune Telling Parrot: . At the wedding, we had a fortune telling parrot, that gave out love fortunes.
Dance Number: Louisa & Chad secretly hired a Broadway choreographer to choreograph their first dance. They rehearsed for 5 months, and got to surprise all of their guests with many dancing-with-the-stars twirls and lifts! Neither of them are dancers, so guests couldn’t believe it!
Custom Outfits All Weekend: All of Louisa’s outfits for the wedding events were custom made by different designers. It was important for her to have a variety of looks, and have the opportunity to explore different bridal styles. She loved working with different talents to bring these visions to life.
Club Stark Theme: Wanted people to feel like everything during the weekend was connected & taken care of. We wanted it to feel like it was truly a weekend away with your best friends.
Boat Day: Keeping with the theme of wanting it to feel like a vacation, they organized a boat day the evening before the wedding celebrations began! The couple had invited several friends who didn’t know eachother, so we wanted them to have a special meetup to feel comfortable with eachother before the festivities began. This was such a fun evening boating around Cabo. They even got to see whales in the ocean![/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]Five special memories, stories, or details from your wedding day:
A fun memory was the spontaneous dance party in between appetizers & dinner at the Rehearsal. During a speech break, everyone was having such a great time they decided to get up and dance (kids, parents, everyone!) to where we totally got off the timeline by almost an hour! It was all worthit seeing everyone have such a great time living in the moment. Thank goodness we didn’t go over too much and miss the fireworks.
A micro moment for others, but a big memory for Louisa was during her vows how she finally saw Chad cry! Chad is not an expressive/emotional person at all, and for the first time in 3.5 years she saw his shed a tear. Relationship milestone☺
Finally, seeing everyone at the after party dancing in their Club Stark sweatshirts and pajamas was the icing on the cake. As shown above, there were little details curated into every step of the weekend and it was such a surprise to see how everyone actually noticed & appreciated them.
Fun bonus detail about the wedding dance, was it started with a fakeout. We got onto the dancefloor with sparkers blazing and pretended we had no idea what we were doing, just swaying back and forth. Not one had any idea a major choreographed dance was coming.
SNBRN also did a custom intro to his set for us, which was a big life moment.
[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]Did you tackle any DIY projects? If so, what were they?
While not entirely DIY, I made a point to use as many small businesses as I could to bring the weekend to life. I’m a big Etsy fangirl and always treasure the beauty and effort put into the goods sold on the platform. Therefore, I wanted to go beyond the norm when it came to small accents & make things unique and partnered with several independent vendors to bring little details to life. From custom painters, paper artisans and candlemakers, to local bakers, designers, community embroiderers and more – many of the elements came together due to small business entrepreneurs. The items couldn’t have been more beautiful and you could feel the love put into the pieces.
This definitely created more work at several touchpoints. For example, I drove from LA to Tijuana to drop off a car full of handmade candlesticks. Not to mention, we had 8 suitcases and 360 pounds of luggage on their trip to get our tablecloths to Mexico.

Something totally DIY – I made all the women’s bracelet gifts! I wanted the bracelets to be the highest quality, yet that was unrealistic. So I found two jewelry vendors – one that made gold-filled ball bracelets and one that made amethyst charms with gold-filled bezels – and I attached the charms to the bracelets at home myself. It was a labor of love and it’s great to see friends/family still wearing them daily.[/field]

A Playful and Vibrant Wedding Celebration Filled With Personalized Touches

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Blue and orange are the bride and groom’s favorite colors, so from the beginning they knew they wanted to incorporate those! Beyond that, they wanted to celebrate their surroundings and bring as much wild and colorful energy as possible to the wedding weekend. [/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

For the wedding weekend, “vibrant, personal, and playful” was the couple’s vision. They wanted to create an atmosphere that covered as much of the grand spectrum of life and their relationship as possible! Bright colors, heartfelt details, regal but personalized attire – they aimed to give a little glimpse into who they are as a couple. And the Fearrington Village team, under the guidance of their amazing wedding planner Gilda McDaniel, did a spectacular job bringing the vision to life! They displayed amazing care and effort in every meticulous detail: floral placements, candles, linens, their memorial table, lights – absolutely everything was perfect.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

The couple met at a fateful New Year’s Eve party thanks to mutual friends, ringing in 2019 – so, they decided to really ring in (pun intended) 2022 with a New Year’s Eve proposal! They designed the ring together at Brillant Earth, and took a trip to Madrid, one of their favorite cities in the world. Even though Liz suspected a proposal was coming, Adam still had one way to surprise her: the timing. He heavily hinted about the importance of their dinner that night but then surprised her with the ring on a casual morning walk through the Retiro park! They did indeed celebrate with the dinner of a lifetime and enjoyed several more days in Spain before returning to NYC for an engagement photoshoot in Central Park, right next to the spot of their first date at The Milling Room three years prior.

Liz wasn’t quite sure what she wanted in a wedding gown at first – but she did know she wanted a cape! She’d seen incredible photos of bridal capes and liked them so much more than classic veils. Luckily, Pronovias had her covered! Liz went to their store in New York City with her mother and Adam’s mother and fell in love with the simple elegance and luminous Mikado silk of their Jory dress, which was chosen for her by her excellent stylist. Said stylist then worked even more magic and paired it with a stunning cape that was originally part of a set with a different dress – it looked magical, so they sold her the cape separately so she could have exactly the look she’d dreamed of. It added just the right amount of whimsy and “fancifulness” (in Liz’s mom’s words) while still being classy and timeless.

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]

Liz chose the Dessy Group for her (six!) Maids of Honor dresses because they have such a range of gorgeous quality gowns in different styles. She wanted everyone to wear the same color (midnight navy), but she wanted the options to be affordable and versatile so everyone could find a style they liked. Navy is one of Liz’s favorite all-purpose, go-to colors generally, so she chose it in the hopes that her Maids of Honor could wear their dresses again sometime!

[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]

Adam’s very first tuxedo was from ChazMaTazz Tux back when he joined his Princeton acappella group; so when the time came to get suited up for the big wedding day, he knew that Chaz would set him up perfectly! Adam opted for a navy blue Ike Behar tuxedo; for the groomsmen, he got them black Bresciani tuxes to match. He also got matching blue and orange Brooks Brothers socks for himself, the groomsmen, both fathers and the reader!

[field title=”Food & Drink”]

The couple first discovered the amazing food and wine at Fearrington Village on a date night relatively early in their (at the time, long-distance) relationship. Awestruck by the caliber of their offerings and truly charmed by everything on their grounds, they knew from that day that Fearrington would be a top contender for their eventual wedding (even then, they were confidently optimistic about getting married). And the Fearrington team delivered time and time again! The menus were spectacular, and words can’t truly do the food proper justice: a festive buffet for rehearsal dinner with the signature hot chocolate soufflé; fantastic appetizers, and a signature cocktail (The Cedar Spectacular: gin, honey, lemon juice, rosemary, and sparkling wine) at welcome drinks; fresh hors d’oeuvres and champagne for cocktail hour; a decadent butternut squash soup followed by short rib, seared trout, or mushroom tarts for dinner… they get hungry again just reminiscing! The team did an amazing job catering to various dietary restrictions, maintaining sky-high standards for every single food item, and pairing it all with some truly special bottles of wine. They can’t wait for another Fearrington dinner sometime soon!

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

The Fearrington Village team has an absolutely stunning array of fresh flowers, so the bride and groom knew they would deliver! But they truly went above and beyond: one of the florists personally grew lantanas (the bride’s favorite flower) in her backyard to ensure the bride would have some in the bouquet! The team did a spectacular job of making every space feel luxurious, natural, and simply stunning.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

Cakes by Kara Millard delivered the couple’s dream cake! It was a challenge through and through: five tiers, alternating between blackout sponge cake with dark chocolate ganache and orange sponge cake with pumpkin mousse; buttercream frosting, without fondant, in a gradient of blue tones; hand-painted florals, along with a crest design and fresh flowers on top. They recognize and celebrate all of the effort that she put into creating this masterpiece! She and the team also made custom cookies with the silhouette of our puppy, which our guests adored.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

Adam’s dear friend and college theater mentor, Glen Pannell, delivered an absolutely showstopping rendition of “Balaenoptera” by the endlessly talented Sir Josh Bennett. It’s a poem about the magnitude and expansiveness of love, and the couple has returned to its words many times in special moments. It was a true gift to hear it delivered with such passion, humor, and spirit in the gorgeous Fearrington Village. Arioso Strings delivered exquisite string quintet music for the ceremony and cocktail hour. Their masterful playing elevated the atmosphere; guests especially loved the groom and groomsmen entrance (“Married Life” from Pixar’s “Up”), the bridesmaid’s entrance (“Tales as Old as Time” from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”), the bride’s entrance (“Ave Maria”, a favorite of both our grandmothers when they were alive), and the recessional (an amazing rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Paper Rings” that they put together in just a few weeks). They were spectacular! The festivities continued with DJ Randy Bennett providing an absolutely phenomenal reception experience. Not only did he provide an amazing assortment of songs across a truly staggering array of genres (Cuban classics, Motown, Spanish guitar, pop-punk hits, millennial dance floor jams, vintage polka, romantic jazz, etc.), he tailored his playlist perfectly to the couple’s own favorites and to the energy in the room. They loved the music for their special dances, too: “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve” by Ledisi for their first dance, “Tradición” by Gloria Estefan for the father-daughter dance, and “Bella Ciao” by Manu Pilas for the mother-son dance). Randy made for an absolutely amazing dance floor, and everyone had an amazing time together in the Fearrington barn.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

Bekah and Christy of Pineapple Street Designs handcrafted all of the couple’s amazing stationery, including their invitation suites, custom crest, table cards featuring some of their favorite cities around the world, and various signage for the day—including a portrait of their dog, Cedar! They did absolutely phenomenal work, including several custom watercolors, and the couple cannot recommend them highly enough.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

Adam and Leanne of Adam Gilbert Films crafted a divine representation of the wedding weekend, somehow managing to not only capture but also elevate countless special moments. They were a joy to work with, seamlessly integrating into the festivities and pulling together footage that will be cherished forever. Their artistry is truly unparalleled.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

Working with Krystal Kast Photography was an absolute dream! She captured stunning moments from throughout the wedding weekend and also did a phenomenal job at Liz and Adam’s engagement photoshoot in NYC. They felt like supermodels with her, and it was a true treasure to have that experience of feeling so special. They’re having such a hard time choosing which of her photos to hang on their wall that they’ll probably wind up printing an entire coffee table book. Truly, Krystal’s work is magic.

The Most Important Last Minute Details You Can’t Forget

There will be so much going on the days before your wedding that it’s very easy to forget some key details – and some things that are not merely a detail. Here is a list of 6 things brides forget, so you can be sure not to forget them yourself!

1. Things you’ll need in your getting ready suite

Hand sanitizer/wipes, tissue paper, drinks, food, and a phone charger. I also highly recommend having some electrolyte replenishing drinks or powder to help you and your squad stay hydrated throughout the day. Also, don’t forget to have your meals as usual! It is a very busy day, but staying fed and hydrated will help you enjoy the day without fatigue and headaches. Pay special attention to water intake if you’ll be sipping on a (few) delicious mimosa(s)!

Hillary Muelleck Photography

2. Marriage License

Believe it or not, with all the excitement and anticipation for the more fun parts of the wedding day, it’s not that uncommon for couples to forget to bring their marriage license to the ceremony site. To avoid forgetting it, have it in a folder and pack it into your wedding day bag the week before your wedding. After the wedding, your officiant will take it with him to file with the county, then you will receive your marriage certificate.

3. Items for detail shots

For your photographer to be able to capture those beautiful detail shots you swoon over online you will need to remember to bring the important items that make a beautiful detail shot. Be sure to bring a full invitation suite with you, order a few extra blooms from your florist, and if you have pretty items that are meaningful to you, such as a pretty family heirloom, a small decorative tray, brooches, a heirloom ring box…Anything beautiful and meaningful that helps tell your story will make those shots all the more special. Most photographers and designers have a styling kit with basic items that can be used for these shots, so if nothing else, be sure to bring your invitations!

4. Cake knife and flutes for your champagne toast!

There is sometimes a misconception about who provides the couple with their toast flutes as well as cake cutting utensils. In most cases, those are provided by you. Some caterers do offer cake cutting utensils, but most couples choose to buy their own so they can choose the design – since those appear on so many pictures – as well as choose beautiful and personalized flutes that you can use again on your special milestones.

5. Prepare tip envelopes

Be sure to prepare any tips in separate envelopes ahead of time for any vendors that require a tip or that you wish to tip because they’ve been amazing. For catering staff, the caterer may prefer you place tips in separate envelopes that can be handed to each staff member, or you may be able to hand the catering manager a single envelope with all the tips. Ask your caterer ahead of time or check your contract, so you’ll have that ready to go.

6. Designate someone to collect all your personal items at the end of the night.

It’s easy to overlook this need, but it’s very important to make sure you assign someone to collect all of your items at the end of the night. Most venues usually need the space clear that same night after the event, so you need to be sure someone is in charge of collecting all of your things and taking it home for you. Between making sure you don’t miss the last dance, saying your goodbyes, and making that remarkable exit, you will be too busy at the end of the night so assign someone ahead of time. Also remember to assign someone to take your dress to the cleaners, if you’re leaving right after the wedding for the honeymoon.

Garden Party Wedding with a Modern Twist in Austin Texas

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

The wedding colors had some soft blushes and mustard and pops of black here and there.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]With the bride being a wedding planner herself, a primary goal of hers was to keep their wedding authentic to them. They decided on a modern garden ambience, with soft colors, organic shapes and movement. They added trees and greenery into the reception to soften the venue and added warm linens and lighting to add to the space. A few personal choices included exchanging private letters before the ceremony without seeing each other, having her boss officiate their wedding and a few military traditions that were special to her groom, Jackson. [/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Their proposal is Kelly’s favorite memory of their love story. A few months after moving to Austin and working as a wedding planner, it was routine for her to assist her boss, Bianca, on wedding days. She didn’t bat an eye when she asked her to assist with a wedding where the “bride” requested vendors wear cocktail attire. It wasn’t until Kelly opened the doors to the greenhouse when she realized what was happening! Jackson welcomed her, there was music playing, candles and white petals everywhere. After the most heartfelt proposal, he surprised her with her closest friends. It was the most special day and she felt so lucky to have best friends and a boss who would work so closely with Jackson to accomplish the perfect surprise. They later used the same song he had playing during the proposal as the song for her processional down the aisle. [/field]

Kelly wanted to find a modern yet romantic gown. She was looking for something with a soft, flowy texture, a modern shape, and subtle details. The first time she saw a photo of Alena Leena Bridal’s Armeria gown – she knew it was the one! She was covered in chills the first time trying it on. In order to keep the integrity of the gown, her seamstress decided to skip adding a bustle. However, she did not want the train to be ruined on the dance floor – which led her to find a reception gown. Having the opportunity to wear two outfits, she wanted them to be completely different. She chose a sleek, satin gown with a high neck and open back for the reception look.

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]

Bridesmaid’s dresses were a silky soft pink from Revelry.

[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]Getting married in uniform was important to Jackson, however, they wanted him to stand out from a typical military wedding. After some searching, they decided on a less common white and black dress uniform. They discovered the clothier had stopped making this uniform so they worked with them to have his jacket custom made.

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]Another military tradition was their cake cutting. To go with his new uniform, they knew Jackson would be getting a saber. To make it special to their wedding, they had it engraved with their wedding date. Of course – Kelly wanted to balance the moment out with a little romance by surrounding their cake in a bed of flowers. Kelly was brought to tears when she saw the reception space design come to life.[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]They included a few military traditions. First being the iconic saber arch as they recessed down the aisle. Being a romantic at heart, Kelly had their guests also toss petals during this moment. After Jackson’s best man patted Kelly and welcomed her to the Army family, they were able to kick off the rest of the night. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

After he proposed, they decided to create a family crest. They included D, for their last name. Mountains and stars to represent their love for nature and star gazing. Peonies; her favorite flower. This crest was used throughout their wedding day design and was engraved on a signet ring, which Jackson wears as his wedding band.

An All-White Affair at Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio, Italy

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]The bride’s request was to have an elegant and luxe vibe through all areas of her wedding, keeping everything with a natural look to combine the venue look. A touch of gold as added to the dinner reception to match the ceiling and beautiful frescos in the Real Salon of the venue.[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Maria Camila and Giovanni meet more than 10 years ago and from that moment they have always been together. Giovanni has proposed during their holiday on Lake Como so it was of course the choice of getting married with a lake view to remember that beautiful moment.

The first step toward the big day was the save the date, followed by the wedding invitation suite made by Lettera Elle.
In the elegant and refined design, they foreshadowed the delicate colors of the wedding and the absolute essence of the aesthetic (transparencies and gold).

Maria Camila and Giovanni’s wedding at the Grand Hotel Serbelloni in Bellagio was an enchanting affair that showcased their unique style and love story.
Maria Camila had always dreamed of a rehearsal dinner with a touch of Italy, featuring lemons and hints of blue, and they found the perfect setting in a typical Italian restaurant overlooking the picturesque Lake Como.
The narrow cobblestone streets, laundry hanging out of windows, and classic old ladies looking on amused from balconies: what could be more Italian!

On the wedding day, Maria Camila transformed into a vision of elegance with the assistance of The Studio Como. In a stunning total white look by Marchesa Bridal, she radiated grace and beauty as she walked down the aisle.
The contrast between the rehearsal dinner’s vibrant colors and the wedding day’s pure white theme symbolized the transition into this new chapter of their lives.

Their photo session on Lake Como aboard the Riva Ariston was nothing short of magical, with the serene waters and breathtaking backdrop of the Italian countryside adding a touch of romance to their pictures.

The highlight of the evening was the luxurious dinner reception held in the Salone Reale of the Grand Hotel Serbelloni. The opulent setting and elements rented by Memorable Rentals provided the perfect backdrop for a night of celebration and fine dining. To add an element of surprise, Victor Angelov made a special appearance between courses, entertaining the guests and creating unforgettable memories.

Throughout the day, the talented photographer Julia Kaptelova and the the watchful eye of Danilo Grassi Films Diary beautifully captured every moment, ensuring that Maria Camila and Giovanni’s wedding would be remembered for a lifetime. It was a day filled with love, style, and enchantment, set against the stunning backdrop of Bellagio and Lake Como.[/field]

Summer Pops Of Citrus Wedding in the Meadows With a Show-Stopping Seating Chart

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

This couple sparked my inspiration from the moment they showed me their wedding palette – think pretty peaches, vibrant oranges, and pops of pink. It was the perfect palette for a fun, vibrant, citrus-inspired soiree. The venue was filled with natural greenery, and we thought it would be a nice touch to bring in this fun color palette to let nature be our blank canvas.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

I knew I wanted to have some fun with this summery vibe and create a unique design that is whimsical and playful to match how easygoing our couple truly was during the entire planning process. I teamed up with Mandy’s Garden Floral Design, and she shared her idea of incorporating summer citruses into the reception centerpieces. We were all for it—this wedding needed a citrus twist! We added fresh citrus fruits to our stationery design and floral centerpieces and even filled their seating chart backdrop with oranges, grapefruits, and lemons.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Proposal shared in Wendy’s words: I was aware of Anthony’s intention to propose, but he still managed to catch me completely off guard and surprise me. On a random Sunday, Anthony mentioned that he really wanted to go out on a walk because the weather was nice. He also said he wanted to go to the Costco in Foster City since it’s frequented by a food vlogger we watch. I suggested that after Costco, we could walk around the waterfront park nearby. He responded that it was a good idea, and I was proud of myself for suggesting it. Little did I know, that was his plan all along! After Costco, we went to the park and walked along the waterfront area, where he got down on his knee and proposed.

The groom’s last name was Yu, and the bride’s last name was Tang!

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Guests were greeted by a soft, pastel orange welcome sign adorned with fresh citruses and a vibrant ground arrangement. The ceremony aisle was filled with lush arrangements, leading to a beautiful oval floral arch overflowing with blooms and greenery. We repurposed the arch as our sweetheart table backdrop, and the aisle florals adorned other parts of the reception space. The bar menu featured a playful rattan design and showcased their signature drink of choice. Guest tables were a vision of elegance and whimsical: peach chargers, sage green linen napkins, acrylic table numbers in a soft peach hue, a mix of pillar and twisted taper candles, and an array of bud vases and floral centerpieces.

Pastry Atelier PQ made a beautiful strawberry-flavored two-tier cake with a floral painted design in the shades of pink, peach, orange, and sage to match our palette.

Italian Garden Wedding at La Foce Steeped in Rich History

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

White, Black, Green, Creams

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

This Tuscany garden wedding is characterized by its romantic, rustic, and charming atmosphere. The design, vibe, and vision for such a wedding aim to capture the essence of the picturesque landscapes and timeless, classic beauty of Tuscany, Italy.

From the Bride… “Selecting La Foce as our venue was an easy decision—it simply captivated us with its undeniable charm and breathtaking beauty.

Planning a wedding in Toronto presented several challenges. Between the soaring costs of living (and weddings!) and the post-COVID scramble for prime dates extending into 2024, we decided to broaden our horizons. Our search led us overseas to France and Italy, two countries dear to us as we have family residing in both.

That’s when we enlisted the help of our fantastic wedding planner, Charlotte. Based in London, she’s fluent in both Italian and French, making her the ideal liaison between us and our dream destination.

Stefan and I were intent on creating a unique experience for our guests. We sought a venue where everyone could stay together, within a two-hour drive from an international airport, and equipped with amenities that our predominantly North American guests would appreciate—like air conditioning and private washrooms.

La Foce, steeped in rich history and unparalleled beauty, met all these criteria. At the heart of our relationship, Stefan and I share a profound love for history, a deep admiration for prolific European architecture, and an appreciation for stunning natural landscapes. La Foce and the Val D’Orcia region encapsulate all of this and more with their incredibly rich heritage. It felt truly special to intertwine our story with such a historic site, creating memories that we’ll cherish forever.”

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]In the words of the bride, Justine, “Stefan chose to propose during a moment that was quintessentially us – walking our dog, Stark, through the historic St. George campus of the University of Toronto, where I did my MBA. This part of the city holds many fond memories for us, and we’ve always been drawn to its stunning Victorian architecture and picturesque scenery.

Stefan did his best to keep the whole thing a secret, but let’s just say subtlety isn’t his strong suit! He enlisted a friend to set up a surprise – a bottle of champagne and flowers – in front of one of the oldest buildings on campus. She was even stealthy enough to capture the entire event on video.

In retrospect, one of the funniest parts of the day was watching footage of a stranger discovering the hidden setup and snapping photos, literally seconds before we arrived. It was a close call, but it all added to the fun of the day. “[/field]

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]

From the Bride… “My main dress was a stunning piece from Galia Lahav. I first laid eyes on it at a Galia Lahav trunk show, and I instantly knew it would be a top contender. The moment I put it on, I was hooked. The gown was originally designed with stunning, ultra-feminine tuile sleeves, which looked incredibly angelic, but didn’t resonate with my personality and personal style. Throughout my life, I’ve always leaned more towards bold, less traditionally feminine styles. For my wedding, I wanted to add a touch of edginess to my look. The sheer illusion of the gown, coupled with the custom-designed pointed sleeves that were created in lieu of the tuile sleeves, struck the perfect balance between unexpected edginess and the soft romanticism you’d expect from a Tuscan garden wedding.

For my other outfits, I enlisted the help of Canadian stylist Rachel Dunford. She curated outfit recommendations for the welcome dinner, reception dress, and civil ceremony, cleverly incorporating both new items and pieces I already had in my closet. Rachel made sure each look was a perfect fit for the venue, event, and most importantly, me. Her expertise gave me the confidence that all my looks would be spot-on, allowing me to focus my energy on other aspects of the planning process.

Overall, it was super fun to wear such a stunning creation that so many people had put in so much hard work and love into making, and it was such a perfect reflection of my personality and style.

I was also super excited to finally show Stefan the dress. We’ve lived together for years and we typically bounce ideas off of one another for our day-to-day style, so having him not see the dress prior to the first look was a big build-up, especially as he had known there was a lot of effort (and stress!) that went into the customization of the sleeves.

His reaction at the first look was perfect – he immediately exclaimed “this is the coolest dress I’ve EVER seen” – that will forever be a core memory for me.”

[field title=”Food & Drink”]Tuscany is famous for its simple yet flavorful dishes that celebrate fresh, high-quality ingredients. Aperol sprtiz and a gelato bar were of course provided to guests. Guests enjoyed the following:
Bruschetta: Grilled bread rubbed with garlic, drizzled with olive oil, and topped with fresh tomatoes and basil.
Risotto with Saffron: Creamy risotto flavored with saffron, a spice often used in Tuscan cuisine.
Bistecca alla Fiorentina: A famous Tuscan T-bone steak, typically grilled and seasoned with salt and pepper.
Fagioli all’Uccelletto: White beans cooked with tomatoes, garlic, and sage, Arugula salad with shaved Parmesan, dressed in olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]A white and green wedding floral theme, especially in the gardens of La Foce, complements the natural beauty and evokes a sense of timeless elegance. Adding chandeliers to the outdoor setting can further enhance the romantic and enchanting atmosphere. The couple chose a unique table formation in the shape of an “X” with a set of abundant, tall chandeliers in the center. Chandeliers seemingly suspended from tree branches adds a touch of glamour.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]The cake was kept small, simple and classic. [/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

From the Bride… “The music throughout the day was a mix of our individual and shared favorite songs. One particularly special aspect of our wedding music was the live performances – my cousin, who’s more like a brother to me, is a professional cellist based in Florence. He collaborated with his friends and colleagues to create an unforgettable musical experience for our wedding.

He generously devoted his time and energy to personally arrange some of our favorite songs for the string quartet. After playing in the ceremony, he handed off his spot in the quartet to another musician so he could join the celebration. His personal touch on the music added a special layer of meaning, not just because he’s family, but also because it allowed us to incorporate unique musical elements into our day.

For instance, I’ve been a huge fan of Taylor Swift for nearly two decades (yes! seriously!). Thanks to my cousin’s hard work and creativity, we were able to include beautiful string arrangements of some of my favorite Taylor Swift songs that we couldn’t find already arranged for string quartets online.

Our first dance was to “And Then Some” by The Arkells, a song that holds a dear spot in our hearts. We first heard it together at a live concert years ago—it was a significant event as we have vastly different musical tastes and had never attended a concert together until then. Stefan has known one of the band members since childhood, so we really had no excuse not to go. I wasn’t very familiar with the band at the time, but the moment we heard this song, we both knew it would always hold special significance for us. In fact, we declared right then and there that “And Then Some” would be our first dance song. And true to our word, it was!”

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]La Foce is a historic estate located in the Val d’Orcia region of Tuscany, Italy, known for its stunning gardens and picturesque landscapes.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

From the Bride… “The most special part of the day, without a doubt, was having all our friends and family gathered in one place. Stefan and I have loved ones spread across the globe, and we belong to several different friend groups due to living in multiple cities and attending different universities and grad schools. So, bringing everyone together to celebrate with us was truly the highlight of our wedding.

It’s a rare and precious experience to have so many people you love in one place, sharing in your joy—it’s a gift beyond compare. We feel incredibly fortunate to have shared this momentous occasion with our favorite people.”

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

From the Bride… “Without a doubt, the best decision we made was to tailor our wedding in a way that truly reflected us as individuals and as a couple.

Instead of following trends or adhering to a specific theme, we examined every element of the day and decided what felt right for us, and what told our story. We didn’t include any wedding traditions “just because,” nor did we succumb to pressure to conform to trends that didn’t resonate with us. For instance, we skipped the traditional wedding cake—a moment we never really connected with—and instead opted for a champagne tower and toast to kick off the dancing.

Our Australian Shepherd, Stark, who is quite literally the center of our universe, couldn’t make the trip to Italy but was very much present in spirit. He was featured in our officiant’s speech, our vows, and even inspired our cocktail hour. We traded the conventional his-and-her cocktails for playful variations based on his personality, dubbing them “Stark the Good Boy” and “Stark the Sassy Boy” cocktails.

By focusing on our intentions rather than themes or traditions, we were able to shape the day into a beautiful blend of all the things that define us—our backgrounds, values, and favorite things. This included honoring Stefan’s Serbian roots with traditional sprigs of rosemary for our guests and selecting a team primarily composed of women-owned and led small businesses from parts of the world that hold significance to us or our heritage. A prime example of this was our stationery, designed and made in Scotland, where my father’s family hails from.

In essence, we crafted a celebration that wasn’t bound by tradition but was deeply meaningful and personal to us. And looking back, we wouldn’t have had it any other way.”

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

From the Bride Cathy… For my birthday, Gavin planned a surprise trip without revealing the destination. When we arrived at the airport, I discovered we were going to Phoenix. We explored the city and visited the Grand Canyon before heading to the border of Utah. That’s when the amazing surprise happened – we arrived at Amangiri, a resort I’ve always wanted to visit but never told him about. We enjoyed stunning views and a luxurious stay. It’s a romantic and special resort located in the heart of the desert. After a lovely dinner, he surprised me with a birthday cake in our room. As I was cutting the cake, he got down on one knee and proposed with a ring he had been carrying. It was a beautiful moment filled with love and excitement, and of course, I said yes!

Cathy chose the Pronovias IXION dress for its simple and elegant design. She especially loves the satin fabric’s beautiful luster, which is not too overwhelming. Surprisingly, she bought the dress without trying it on in-store. She only got to try it two months before the wedding, but it exceeded all her expectations.

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]To respect their culture, couple add traditional Chinese tea ceremony at the wedding day. The couple serves tea to their partner’s parents, addressing them as mom and dad for the first time. The parents, in turn, express their best wishes to the couple. To honor this tradition, bride sourced all the decorations from China, including exquisite tea cups, desserts, and plates. They added a touch of elegance to the ceremony. Bride entrusted one of her bridesmaids to host the tea ceremony, and she excelled, bringing laughter and joy to couple’s parents.

For the tea ceremony, Bride had a QiPao custom-made from China. QiPao is a highly classic Chinese attire often worn by brides during the tea ceremony or wedding. She chose a matching updo hairstyle and a hairpin that coordinated with the color of the QiPao.

Southern Garden Soirée in Seaside, Florida

[field title=”Wedding Colors”]White, Pink, Lavender, Yellow, Orange, Light Blue
Accented with rattan chargers, bamboo chairs and napkin rings.[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]Classic and timeless meets garden-party set on a coastal landscape. The design of Olivia and Ross’ stunning Seaside wedding was the perfect combination of southern garden romance with a splash of spring color. [/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]On a trip to Paris, we were walking along the Seine River on the way to lunch and Ross stopped and got down on one knee. It was secluded enough to be a special and private moment between the two of us. We walked around Paris for the rest of the day, taking pictures and enjoying the city together! Paris is my favorite city in the world and was the perfect place to celebrate our engagement. I knew I wanted to get married in Seaside, FL. My family goes to 30A during the summer, and we have such happy memories there. It meant so much to have all our friends and family come from out of state and celebrate the start of our marriage in such a special place. [/field]

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]I purchased my Suzanne Neville gown at Blue Bridal Boutique in Austin, TX. I found the designer several years ago on Pinterest and fell in love with her romantic and timeless design, especially the floral applique details. I wanted a timeless silhouette with a touch of embellishment, and the floral applique was perfect! [/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]I gave my bridesmaids some general guidelines, like “pastel” and “floral,” but the rest was up to them. It was so fun to give the final approval on their choices. I didn’t want traditional bridesmaid’s dresses and thought it would be more fun for my friends to choose something they feel good in and would wear again! [/field]

[field title=”Food & Drink”]We wanted to incorporate as much seafood as possible since we were on the coast! Bud & Alley’s served mini crab cakes during the Cocktail Hour and one of the entree choices was Pan-Seared Gulf Red Snapper, which is always a treat when it’s available!

Our signature drink was called a “Georgie-rita” named after our Golden Retriever, George. [/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]I asked my planner, Ashley, and florist to draw our color scheme from “seaglass.” I wanted the design to be coastal and classic, but not too beachy. I incorporated a lot of the rattan from our home (chargers and napkin rings) and bamboo chairs to give texture to the overall design. Our florist knocked it out of the park with the flower arch at the Seaside Chapel. It was lush and overflowing with greenery and fresh flowers. Our couple photos in front of the Seaside Chapel with that beautiful arch, are easily our most favorite photos from the photographer’s gallery. We loved the colorful tabletop flowers, too! The florist created beautiful arrangements with pink and orange flowers that ended up being such bright and colorful additions. [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]We decided on a classic buttercream, 3-tier wedding cake with non-traditional flavors. Ross chose fun-fetti for one of the layers. It’s his favorite and he always requests it for his birthday! I chose my favorite flavor, Strawberry. The cake slice colors were perfect because they matched our whole design, and guests loved the unexpected flavors. [/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”][/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]We included our dog, George, where we could. We got him when we first started dating and have raised him together. We named the signature drink after him, had the cutest stir sticks with his picture, the bar sign featured him, and of course, we had a George figurine taking a bite out of the cake!

He was so fun to have around while we were getting ready, as if he knew that it was a big day for us! He even forced himself onto the bus with me on the way to the First Look! He is such a big part of our lives and I couldn’t imagine the day without him.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]I worked with a designer, @chloedesignsthings, on the day-of signage. She made the escort cards, place setting cards, and welcome sign. We incorporated the scalloped edge on a lot of the signage, which reminded me of waves. We used seashells to hold the name cards at each place setting. I also used a coastal-inspired coffee table book, “Escape” by Gray Malin, as our guest book. It’s such a beautiful book to display in our home, with special messages from the day. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]We had a blast on our getaway Beach Buggy! We rented a white Moke for the grand exit, and hung a Just Married sign on the back. The no-mess confetti exit made the best photos at the end of the night. We loved our wedding experience from start to finish- it was perfect. [/field]
