Hong Kong Wedding Shoot from Carmen Weddings + Jada Poon Photography

Inspired by chinoiserie and intimate weddings of East Asia, Carmen Weddings teamed up with a group of mega-talented vendors including Jada Poon PhotographyBridelicious and Divine Floreal to craft this dream of a shoot. Think a gorgeous palette of peach and moody blues, the perfect alfresco setting and details that can easily be tucked into your upcoming destination wedding and you have a little inkling of what this photo shoot entails. Have a look at the full gallery for more as well as the film behind the day captured by Allora Visuals below.

From Carmen Weddings… Inspired by intimate weddings and East Asia, Bridelicious and I created this Chinoiserie Chic shoot, which was designed on the premise of multi-cultured couples, by modernising traditional Chinese props and bringing it in line with Western concepts.

Our idea was to show how weddings in this vibrant city can be small and personalised, with an emphasis on DIY details and decorative items that can be easily found in Hong Kong; Bridelicious had birdcages and bamboo steamers painted, napkin rings were made using Chinese motifs and the bride and groom’s chair decoration were made using jade beads. We used a mixture of soft, elegant flowers and bright coral flowers gorgeously put together by Divine Floreal and paired with pops of teal coloured tea tins and bamboo steamers to create a modern and playful setting. Carnations are rarely used in Hong Kong weddings and we wanted to show how versatile and pretty this type of flower could be.

Most of the weddings in Hong Kong are held in hotel ballrooms which can sometimes be stifling, not only for the bride and groom but also the guests. From the outset, our aim was to team up with a venue that is both intimate and beautiful; to create a feeling of being a million miles away from the bustling city. One Thirty One in Sai Kung was the perfect location for our shoot, with the outdoor space as well as the British inspired wooden panelled interior, which added a sophisticated touch. We were also mindful that the shoot was a reflection of Hong Kong talent and therefore, chose mainly Hong Kong based vendors to collaborate with.

We chose this particular dress by Ranee K as she creatively transforms the Cheongsam (the Chinese dress that’s traditionally long with short sleeves) into a gown that can be worn by modern brides who usually seek for more Western-styled wedding dresses. As much as we could, we made sure to tie in the different elements from different vendors together, be it the water coloured invitation suite designed by Kalo Make Art with the dessert table that was deliciously created by Patisseries A Legna.

We were both in awe of Jada Poon’s photography, and her perfection in creating fine art images was exactly what we had in mind. She beautifully captured the details and the fabulous views at this stunning venue, bringing out the best in all the vendors.

From Bash, Please… Both born and raised in the south- her, Alabama; him- Georgia, Beth Murray and Ben Bricken met their freshman year attending the University of Georgia. They remained close friends throughout their four years of college. Upon graduation, Beth moved up the east coast, working on Capitol Hill and then moving on to New York City as a producer for NBC’s TODAY Show. An avid surfer, Ben went (much farther) west- working for Discovery Land Company’s Kuki’o development in Hawaii. He continued to pursue real estate- and chasing surf- ending up in Santa Monica at Douglas Emmett real estate firm. The two kept up through the years and reconnected in Los Angeles, while Beth was on a business trip for TODAY. “We went out for a drink to catch up on life since college and it was like a light switch turned on,” recalls Murray. “We ended up talking on the beach in front of his house until morning and the rest is history.” “We both just knew.” The two got engaged a few short months later- Ben proposed in Rosemary Beach, Florida while they were spending a weekend in the South with his family.

From the Bride… Our hopes for our wedding day was that it would be laid back, meaningful, and fun for our guests. We wanted them to feel the love that we share for each other- and for them too! Having an intimate destination wedding in Los Angeles allowed our friends and family to spend quality time with each other, and also get a glimpse into the place we now call home. The highlight of the day for us was the ceremony- we wanted to make sure not to rush through it- which included custom written vows for us by Ben’s dad, Rev. Reese Bricken. Another surprise for us during the ceremony was an original poem written for us by close friend and author Donald Miller, titled “Generation One.” We wanted the ceremony to reflect our commitment each other, our family and the meaning of marriage- and it really set the tone and the spirit of the entire day. The whole night was straight up magic.

The first piece of advice I got on wedding planning came from my sister-in-law- hire a coordinator! I knew that between moving from New York City to LA and planning a detailed destination wedding in 6 months, that I would need extra help. Paige and Kelly were the perfect fit. The magical, laid back, meaningful celebration we envisioned? Better than we could have ever imagined. P&K made the planning fun- not stressful- and their attention to detail made me feel completely at ease throughout the process. Their fresh eye for beauty and creativity really made the mix of both the traditional and modern aspects we wanted for the wedding flow together beautifully. They kept us laughing and feeling loved throughout the process. From custom paper goods, awesome gift bags, to putting my deodorant on me pre-ceremony (thanks, Paige!), we can’t imagine planning what we did with anyone else.

Max’s photography is a step beyond. His artistic eye is what captivated us from the beginning. I knew the photographer would be with me throughout the day from start to finish, and wanted someone laid back and fun. Max was a perfect fit. Apart from his extraordinary work, his easy demeanor is exactly what any bride would want with them throughout their day.

DIY Farmers’ Market Inspired Floral Arrangement

I’ve become well acquainted with farmers’ markets over the course of the last few years, making it my weekly mission to pick up some local bounty. But the thought of incorporating some of my goods into a beautiful arrangement never really occurred to me. One peek through the gallery, however, and you can consider me convinced. Captured by Erin McGinn and designed by Greenlion Design, be sure to grab all of the tips and tricks below!

From Erin McGinn… Thinking about the rich and vibrant colors right now in New England, Kim Lamothe of Greenlion Design and I decided to photograph a floral piece that could be created from elements discovered at your local farmers market. Being ever inspired by local and sustainable produce for their events, Longwood Venues and Destinations’ Director of Sales and Marketing, Nichole Wardle, invited us photograph the piece in the Island House at Belle Mer.

From Kim at Greenlion Design… Early fall is one of the best times to pop by your local farmers market, and not just for the plentiful fresh produce, but also for thinking outside the box to create a statement floral design. Choosing beautiful and colorful flowers and complimentary fruits and veggies to use in the design makes a fun and lush piece that you can break down and repurpose after your dinner party. Here I chose inclusions like purple eggplant, champagne grapes, and plums along with locally grown bibb lettuce and live herb plants to use in this piece. By keeping things like herbs and lavender in their small pots inside the larger vessel, they provide a great fill and base on the sides of your floral frog, but also can be removed and planted in your garden afterwards.

Farmers’ Market Floral Design Tips

1) Consider incorporation fruits and veggies into your arangements. Think purple eggplant, champagne grapes, plums, lettuce and herbs.

2) Pick immature fruits and vegetables, they make inserting a small wooden pic on to them easy, and the pic will not move or slip. Slice the bottom of your wooden pic with felco’s to easily insert into your floral frog.

3) Place your frog in a smaller container filled with water ( think yogurt container) so you can place live plants around that.

4) Don’t have a floral frog? Use a tape grid on top of the smaller container you are going to put your frog in.

5) Plant the herbs in your garden or send home with dinner party friends.

Unforgettable Moments + About Time

A really great wedding is made up of perfect moments. You know — those ones that make your heart feel SO full it’s almost unreal? For me, those wedding day moments stand out vividly. My dad squeezing my hand right before we walked down the aisle; whispering “we’re married!” to my husband up at the altar; a first dance in front of our 200 guests yet feeling like we were the only two in the room. Those are the moments I’ll remember forever. And at the end of the day it wasn’t the cake or the decor or even the dress that made the day special. It was small, seemingly insignificant, perfectly imperfect moments that all added up to the best day ever.

Allow me to introduce a movie that celebrates that exact sentiment — About Time. From the creators of Love Actually (aka, my favorite movie ever) comes the story of Tim and Mary, played by Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams. Upon discovering his ability to travel in time, Tim sets out to build the life he’d dreamed by redoing and reliving life’s sweetest moments. But as he eventually discovers, the key to happiness may not involve time travel at all.

Having attended the premiere screening, I can say with certainty this movie will be a forever favorite. It’s that good. And loving the idea of memorable moments sooo much, we created our own special Pinterest board to share your moments that mean the most. So without further adieu, let’s take a peek at the About Time trailer below!

Dana Point Wedding from Allyson Magda + Agape Planning

When classic black tie marries al fresco beach casual the result is nothing short of magical. The juxtaposition of the traditional with the outdoor sunny locale in this wedding is everything I needed today and then some. A great big thanks to Allyson Magda Photography and the beautiful, dog loving couple for sharing the day with us!

From the beautiful bride… My husband and I grew up 15 minutes apart from each other in Southern California, but did not meet until we both attended college in New England. When it came time to plan the wedding, we knew we had to return to our roots and hold the wedding close to our family and friends. Luckily, we fell in love with the first venue we visited – The St. Regis – a beautiful spot by the ocean with a small botanical garden in which to hold the ceremony.

The St. Regis drove much of the detail planning. We wanted to keep things simple, yet match the understated elegance of our ceremony and reception sites. It was important to keep the day low-stress and make sure all of our guests had fun. While we had some ideas about the color scheme and decorations, we knew that we had selected a dream team of vendors (led by the wonderful Agape Planning) to help bring our vision to life. For example, we were able to show our love for dogs by having an animal shelter bring in some darling dogs to join our cocktail hour. We were fortunate to book the very talented Allyson Magda to capture the festivities. Looking through the photos brings a smile to my face every time! We can’t thank our vendors enough for all the hard work they put into making our wedding day a success. They were so fun and easy to work with – I trusted them completely, which gave us more time and energy to spend with our guests!

SMP’s Blogger-Bride Contributor: Meet Devon!

I should mention that today is no ordinary afternoon here on SMP. Not even close. In fact, we’ve been waiting on pins and needles to introduce you to our new blogger-bride contributor, miss Devon Dyer! You might know her as the fashionista behind Devon Rachel, but when a little birdy told us she was rocking some new ring finger bling, we knew a fabulous collaboration was right around the corner. So here’s how it’s going go — over the next seven months, Devon will be sharing the ins and outs of wedding planning right here on SMP; fashion, fitness, design, you name it. All leading up to her Big Day! So let’s sit back and get to know the darling Devon a bit better, shall we?

Hello fellow brides-to-be! I’m Devon and I write the blog Devon Rachel, which follows my journey as fashion and interior design blogger from Texas living in Los Angeles. I moved here a little over a year ago to work for celebrity stylist, Taylor Jacobson, and it was the biggest step I’ve taken in my career and life thus far. I want to follow my dreams—life is short! After learning from Taylor, I branched out on my own and currently blog and style full time. My blog is a place I want others to be inspired, and I want to create the same feeling in my wedding. No person inspires me more than my fiancé, Chandler.

The story of how Chandler and I met is a fun one to tell. We met in the library of Texas Tech University (Wreck ‘Em! Guns Up!). I was frantically studying for one my hardest classes in college. A mutual friend suggested I study with Chandler who was in the same class and noted, “he was pretty cute” so it wouldn’t hurt. I met Chandler, bombed the test and the rest is history.

I should mention one important part of our story. Chandler and I are dating long distance, and have been for over a year. He lives in Texas with my family and friends. Going from seeing someone you love every day to once a month is not an easy task, but Chandler was the one who pushed me to follow my dreams to California. He promised me we would make it work and that he would be there for me 100% of the way. Talk about a better half! His continuous support and love (especially on the nights I’d call crying when I first moved to LA) means the world to me.

Chandler proposed on top of Runyon Canyon in Los Angeles, a place we love to hike that overlooks the city. He told me we we’re taking a picture, and dropped down on one knee as I posed. When the person taking our picture realized what Chandler was doing, he started recording on his phone. So I have actual footage to share with you! I was totally shocked and it was the most magical moment of my life.

I’m so excited to plan this wedding and take you along on the journey with me. From flowers and fitness to bridesmaids and beauty, I’ll be covering my planning process here on Style Me Pretty. There will be stress, but we will get through this! Because in the end, I will walk down a flower filled aisle to marry the man of my dreams and it will all be worth it. So will you, pretty bride! Let’s do this.

Best Dressed Blogger: Mimi Ikonn

When I’m looking for a fab recipe, I turn to Joy the Baker. For a top notch cocktail? Freutcake of course. But when it comes to fashion, the sweet Mimi Ikonn is my gal. The girl is always chic, always classy, and never without a serious dose of style. And you know what? She’s sharing some of her fashion tips today *cue crazy note taking*.

A French Sailor’s Shirt: one of my favourite items in my wardrobe. It’s chic, timeless and effortless. Wear it with black skinny jeans and heels or dress it down with jeans shorts and ballet flats. Either way, it will add class and sophistication to any outfit.

A White Tee: definitely a wardrobe staple. I always pack at least one when travelling. It’s like a plain canvas, you can dress it up with a statement necklace and a pencil skirt or dress it down with a pair of boyfriend jeans and a cardigan!

Boyfriend Jeans: every girl should have at least one pair in her closet! I like to wear mine with flats, heels or rolled up with a pair of ankle booties.

A Colorful Blazer: Add a pop of colour to any outfit by throwing on a colourful blazer. I have to confess, I have too many of them in my wardrobe.

A Denim Jacket: an everyday classic that can be worn almost year round. I like to throw it over a feminine dress or a crop top and a flowy skirt.

Vintage Inspiration from Bonnie Jenkins Photography

Photo shoots like this one make me so, so very happy.  You know the ones.  Those totally gorgeous, totally mesmerizing days of inspiration, all thought up and executed by a dream team of Australian vendors. And this one in particular has left me a bit speechless with a whole host of pretty from Tasleema NighGinger Lily & Rose, Honeycomb Hair Cafe, and One Print Wonders.  See it all in the full gallery captured by Bonnie Jenkins right here.

The intention behind this shoot was to allow some talented local vendors to express their creativity. Set in the beautiful forest of the Sunshine Coast’s hinterland, the model wears a 1940’s wedding dress and is surrounded by nature and pastels. The magnificent property in Eudlo on the Sunshine Coast’s hinterland was such a huge source of inspiration as was the gorgeous model, styling, stationery, florals, hair and make-up.

From Troy Grover PhotographersThis was such a stunning Strawberry Farms Wedding. Loved the waterfall bouquets and varying shades/textures in the bridesmaids dresses! Marissa + David were such a sweet + talented couple. David made wooded games (life size janga + corn hole) for cocktail hour and then serenaded his bride at the reception with a song he wrote just for her. So romantic!

Vancouver Wedding from Just For You Photography + Filosophi Events

I do believe my jaw dropped the moment I laid eyes on this wedding by Just For You Photography. Maybe it was the stunning Claire Pettibone gown or the perfect details planned by Filosophi Events or maybe it was the breathtaking florals from Delovely Creative – it’s all worthy of a jaw-to-desk moment. But I am pretty sure it was this couple’s first kiss as husband and wife that really got me, and with a wedding this pretty, that’s saying something. See all the magic here.

Colin & Alanna are an adorable couple, he’s a musician and she’s an air traffic controller, and both are just the absolute best kind of humans – funny, thoughtful and purely genuine and sincerely kind.

They decided to have a ‘destination’ wedding – they are from Edmonton, Alberta – and chose scenic Vancouver, BC as their location to tie the knot.

Working with local vendors from afar under the guidance of Vancouver based event planners Filosophi Events, Alanna & Colin created the perfect day which in their case meant elegant but relaxed and down to earth, and with touches of their playful and easygoing personal style. The highly coveted Brix Restaurant in Vancouver served as the location for the whole event, with the ceremony and cocktail hour happening in their signature urban courtyard and dinner inside the brick walled, intimate dining room. Delovely Creative did an exceptional job with the decor and flowers – chandeliers mixed with string lights, chevron runners with contemporary chairs, and ‘wild and crazy’ florals in all type of containers from bottles to vintage trophy cups came together to create a mood that was decidedly ‘Colin & Alanna’.

Musicians from Side One Band played custom arrangements for the ceremony and kept guests entertained through the cocktail hour, and after dinner a candy and dessert buffet featuring desserts from Vancouver’s legendary Cartems Donuterie provided an extra treat for the guests.

The best moment of the day was during the ceremony, when Colin surprised Alanna by serenading her with a song and there was not a dry eye in the house. The wedding was a perfect example of making a wedding reflect your true self and own style rather than just a collection of pretty things.

Loyola University Wedding from Kina Wicks Photography

You know what’s crazy cool?  This Loyola University wedding.  A wedding, lovelies, that happens to combine an uber-awesome outdoor ceremony with a sophisticated meets elegant reception in a ballroom sort of overflowing with pretty.  Think gorgeous pink hues, a stunning bride and groom and a whole host of lovely moments captured by Kina Wicks Photography.  Add in a little romance via nature’s gift, aka, the rain and we have ourselves one entire day of amazing.  See it all in the full gallery.

From Kina WicksHaley and Clayton both have midwest roots with California wings. They decided to come back to Chicago to celebrate their wedding, and did it with a bang! Their classy and sophisticated style was showcased at their venue at Piper Hall at Loyola University. The lake view paired with the classic style of Piper Hall allowed Haley and Clayton to have a wonderful wedding day, even despite the pouring rain! This couple, so focused on the real meaning of the day, pulled off the change of plans without a hitch! Their positive spirits, love for each other, and general easy going attitudes helped us all relax and sit back in amazement. It was their ability to weather the storm that hit them that day that lets us know that their marriage will be able to handle any other storms that come their way.

Gary Guy and Adorne Artistry teamed up to style a shoot with a soft and romantic feel. We wanted to create depth with layers of beautiful fabrics, detailed accessories, and fresh floral arrangements all within a gorgeous outdoor setting. The lavender fields of Lavande in Texas were the perfect spot! Lavande offers an opportunity to escape from the ordinary to an elegant retreat reminiscent of the French Countryside.

Gabriella Pawelek was dressed in three dreamy gowns from BHLDN Houston. Ortensia, with its tiny pearl-draped back; Rococo, showcasing floral embroidery and intricate cutwork; and Arabella, with its dreamy Old-World Lace. The dresses were paired with feminine statement jewelry by BHLDN Houston (Cinematic Earrings, Rosewater Drop Earrings, Reflecting Pools Necklace, Luna Bracelet, Garland of Light Bracelet) and hair accessories created by Jolie téte.

Adorne Artistry created a soft but strong bridal look that is all about the eyes. Deep plums, warm browns and gold tones made Gabriella’s lids smoky and romantic. The strong eyeliner added drama and emphasis. Fresh rosy cheeks and a soft pink lip balance the look. The hair was structural but tousled for a modern vintage feel that is both current and timeless.

To set Gabriella on the same level with the lavender, we created the teepee from several vintage linens found at antique stores and flea markets. Other vintage finds include the rustic metal chair and watering can. Carol from Something Special in Flowers created all of the beautiful bouquets and helped create the vision for the teepee dripping with flowers. The arrangements include stock, spray roses, thistle, seafoam statice, lavender and touches of hydrangea.

The gals from Sugary and Chic Cake Boutique crafted a modern, lavender-wrapped cake with vintage elements. The cake was covered in metallic brush embroidered flowers all hand piped and hand painted. To tie in with the theme of the event, the cake was then enveloped in delicate ruffles of fondant. The entire cake looks to be emerging from gorgeous folds of lavender silk.

Classic Elegance in Osterville from Sweet Monday Photography

Cape Cod and gorgeous weddings go hand in hand, but they enter a whole new level of pretty when this team of talents joins forces. And it’s the kind of pretty you’ll want to sit down with for awhile. I’m talking invitations by the amazing Ruby the Fox, lovely florals from Lilacs Floral Design, and a picture perfect cake from Delicious Desserts all captured by Sweet Monday Photography – it’s image after image of lovely inspiration, and you can take a peek at all the pretty right here.

And you won’t want to miss icing on the cake – this couple’s gorgeous film by Long Haul Films …

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/76072685 600 338]

From Sweet Monday Photography… Lindsey & Mike grew up in the same town, knew of each other throughout school, and went to neighboring colleges but it wasn’t until a chance encounter at a bar that led to a night of dancing which eventually led to a realization that they were soul mates. Lindsey was working in the fashion industry in NYC and Mike was in Boston, but Lindsey soon returned home so they could start their lives together. Needless to say, with so many years of mutual friends and family on hand to celebrate, and all of them passionate dancers, Lindsey & Mike’s wedding was a serious party!

Since Lindsey worked in fashion, we had high expectations for her dress and boy, did she bring it! We are obsessed with her Reem Acra gown that was both traditional but also stunningly modern and unique. The entire wedding party looked fabulous! All the rest of the details of the day took a cue from Lindsey’s dress, keeping with the classic themes of a Cape Cod wedding but with a refreshingly contemporary spin, from the Blue & Blush color palate to the paper suite by Ruby the Fox.

From the Bride… Michael and I were childhood friends whose paths crisscrossed many times over the years – we attended the same middle school, belonged to the same church and even attended rival colleges in Maine. After graduating school, I moved to Manhattan and Michael to Boston, and it wasn’t until a chance encounter when I was home visiting family over Thanksgiving when our paths crossed once more, and as they say, the rest is history!

I have to admit that as a young girl I grew up not dreaming about my perfect wedding, but rather more specifically about the perfect groom and perfect dress! Michael and I were married on Cape Cod on a beautiful, sunny, 75 degree day, and as every bride will tell you, the whole day was a complete blur – but a perfect blur. I married the most perfect man in the wedding dress of my dreams, surrounded by 225 of the most wonderful family and friends – and after that everything else just fell into place.

As a slave to details, I put a fair amount of thought and energy into planning every single detail of our day. As most brides do, I spent countless hours browsing magazines and blogs for inspiration. While I didn’t have a wedding theme per say, the décor and overall design aesthetic was influenced by the romance and charm of “Old World Cape Cod” – from the organic lush and candlelight filled centerpieces by Lilacs, to the adirondack chairs (with custom made pillows to match our invitation envelope liners!) and row boat filled with beer on the lawn for the cocktail hour. While we wanted a formal wedding, we still wanted it to still be youthful and fun. In order to set this tone, we worked with the super talented Megan of Ruby the Fox Designs to create the most perfect invitation suite and day of elements, which were traditional with a touch of whimsy. Sweet Monday Photography and Long Haul Films were the ultimate “dream team” to work with, documenting every detail of our day so beautifully.

I could not have been more in love with my Reem Acra wedding gown. Working in fashion, I knew I wanted something a little different and unlike what I had seen on any other bride – traditional yet unique, structured yet romantic – and to me, this dress accomplished all of that. The bodice of raw silk strips and skirt of layers (and layers!) of tulle and organza simply took my breath away. When I tried it on I couldn’t take it off, and knew it was the dress I was meant to dance the night away in! I also had a bit of fun outfitting the wedding party – all 25 of them! The bridesmaids wore Joanna August dresses in five different shades of blush and nude, and the groomsmen wore Navy Bonobos suits with Brooks Brother’s ties.

The weekend unfolded more perfectly then I ever could have imagined, with my all-time favorite moment being our first look, followed by our first dance to “Never Knew Love Like This Before” (Stephanie Mills). I remember thinking that it was pretty darn miraculous that I got to marry this incredible guy on this beautiful summer day surrounded by such amazing friends and family, and I can’t thank everyone enough for helping to make it the best day of our lives.

Fall Wedding Round Up

Fall is my favorite season, and with absolute good reason.  Not only is it a drop-dead gorgeous time of year (red + orange + gold always equals magic), it makes for some seriously stunning weddings. I’m talking weddings that are chock-full of fabulous autumn details (ahem, hot cocoa bar) and warm and cozy accents every which way you turn (one word: pashmina).  So today?  Well, we’re dedicating our morning, noon and night to those cool weather soirees with a little look at some of our Fall faves.

We’re kicking off our day of pretty with this Long Island City affair from Firefly Events and Mademoiselle Fiona, because, well… it’s just that darn beautiful.  And this fall-hued bundle of blooms?  Exquisite.  See so much more right here.

Did someone say hot cocoa bar?  Because this pretty little Chicago affair from Julia Franzosa happens to be boasting one of the most stylish hot cocoa set-ups I have ever seen.  Think chocolate covered spoons meets cinnamon sticks meets a whole lot of yummy whip cream.  See it all right here in the full gallery.

The perfect way to kick off a lovely Autumn event?  Some pretty paper goods that just scream “Fall chic.” Pretty paper goods like these ones from Papier Fabrik, which just so happen to be a crazy gorgeous mix of vibrant colors and oh-so-beautiful calligraphy.  See every last detail (and the entire mesmerizing wedding) captured by Jillian Modern Photography right here in the full gallery.

When vibrant blooms like this come my way, I tend to get a little speechless.  Because bright pops of orange, red and yellow are the pure definition of fall perfection.  And when they are showcased in a bouquet as stunning as this one created by Felicity Banford Flowers, it’s an entirely new level of awesome.  See the entire soiree captured by Lilian Haidar Photography right here in the full gallery.

I’ve already mentioned my love of Fall color palettes, but you can’t even begin to speak about this beautiful garden wedding without paying homage to the pretty, pretty hues filling every last beautiful image captured by Olivia Leigh Photographie.  It’s like a Fall-colored explosion, lovelies… and it’s amazing.  Join me in the gallery for sooo much more.

From the photographer… Katelin & Matthew met in high school and have been sweethearts ever since, their wedding was a true union of families and there were many, many beautiful candid moments. The day was as perfect as it gets with classic glamour setting the stage for a memorable day. The bridesmaids were brilliant in their own style of dress, in a nude tonal range. We planned to visit the spot where Matthew proposed, the gorgeous Southport harbor, with Katelin’s family’s antique Bentley as a backdrop. The Lawn Club provided an ever-changing and elegant setting with its Georgian architecture and Art Deco/Colonial Revival Interior, a photographer’s dream. Katelin dazzled when she transformed her Monique Lhuillier dress by taking off the duster, revealing a chic sheath. The photo booth & incredible band had guest frollicking from room to room in a whirl of joy. Understated with impeccable gradients of rose, guests loved the cake and the fun cake ceremony! A sparkler exit was the perfect romantic end to a memorable day.

DIY Superhero Halloween Costume

The things I would have done for this exact costume as a little girl. That cape? The stuff my childhood dreams were made of right there. And the best part? No sewing involved. I confidently give Jen Rodriguez and Mirelle Carmichael moms of the year for creating these getups. See all of this adorableness and more, in the gallery!

Materials1 yard pink stretch liquid lame (cape)
1 yard metallic gold sequin fabric (lining, belt and cuffs)
McCall’s M6616 pattern used for the belt and cuffs, and as a guide for the cape.
3 ft pink grosgrain ribbon (for cape tie)
1/2 yard pink silk tulle with gold dots (tutu)
1 yard pink netted tulle (tutu)
20″ elastic (tutu waist)
2 gold glitter foam sheets
1 pink glitter foam sheet
1/4 yard interfacing
Velcro
Fabric glue
White long sleeved shirt
Gold lame leggings and large gold bows (found here)

instructions

step-1Follow the McCall’s Pattern for the cape, belt and cuffs.

step-2Glue the interfacing to the sequin fabric to reinforce the belt and cuffs, and glue on velcro to fasten them.

step-3Fit the elastic around your child, and note how much you need. Glue the elastic at that point and trim the excess. Cut 2″-3″ wide strips of the 2 different types of tulle and loop them around the elastic to make the tutu.

step-4Cut stars out of the gold foam sheets and use fabric glue to attach them to the white shirt.

step-5For the ’emblems’ on the capes, cut a large diamond out of the gold foam sheet. Trace the diamond on a piece of paper, then draw your child’s initials on the paper to fit inside the diamond shape. Place the paper over the pink foam and cut out the initials. Glue initials to the diamond and then glue the emblems to the cape.

New Jersey Country Club Wedding from Christian Oth Studio

As far as I’m concerned, there’s nothing more classic than a country club affair. It’s like the “little black dress” of venues that just never goes out of style. But what makes this wedding shine a wee bit brighter is the talent stacked behind it. I’m talking the motherload of all vendor mashups — Rountree FlowersBrilliant Event PlanningCeci New York and The Left Handed Calligrapher, just to name a few. Christian Oth Studio captured the day to perfection, and we’ve got all the goods waiting right here.

Our gorgeous and unbelievably kind bride, Liz, wanted a perfectly sophisticated and contemporary wedding, but above all she wanted her family and friends to have the best night they could possibly imagine. While we were planning the happy couple’s special day, we worked closely with Liz was to create a fun and memorable day for those who are most important to her and Chris.

The couple could not have asked for a more idyllic day. The sun was beaming and there was a light summer breeze as guests arrived at their late afternoon ceremony. Liz, who looked ethereal in her lace-applique adorned gown, walked down an aisle lined with fresh hydrangeas and following their traditional ceremony guests headed to Rumson Country Club for cocktails and the couple’s lively reception. Nods to the couple’s current home, New York City, could be found all throughout the evening. During the chic cocktail hour, family and friends picked up escort cards that included tables named after the couple’s favorite NYC spots, snacked on delicious hors d’oeuvres and sipped cocktails complete with New York Giants and Yankees drink stirrers and coordinating blue and white striped paper straws. Their signature cocktail was the Rumson Club’s very own Southside, which is a drink that they traditionally serve in big, ivory mugs. Liz and Chris chose to serve it this way at the wedding, too, as it’s one of their favorite parts of golfing at the club.

After cocktail hour, guests headed to the fabulous tented reception and were greeted by a map that was custom made to look like a subway map with paths to the couple’s favorite spots that served as the table names. Guests took their spots at tables decorated with an array of crystal vases filled with lush flowers in pastel hues and welcomed the newly married, and not to mention completely adorable, couple while the song “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore played. In between dancing and eating, a slew of thoughtful speeches were made by the bride and groom’s family and friends, most notably Liz’s father who gave an unforgettable speech that included him singing a Frank Sinatra song to his beautiful daughter. Liz, being the thoughtful bride she is, wanted everyone to have an enjoyable comfortable and fun night, as exemplified by the cigar bar that guests could get hand-rolled cigars from, the colorful pashmina scarves that were provided to guests so they could stay warm as the sun set and the unique personalized sunglasses family and friends could wear while they danced the night away. Before Liz and Chris’s memorable night came to an end, guests made sure to grab their favors, bags of mini classic NYC black and white cookies baked by a Brooklyn bakery, and a sparkler for the sparkler send off. The bride and groom departed their reception as family and friends showered them with light, love and happiness.
