Greenwich, Connecticut Wedding from IRIS Photography

Say the words “Greenwich, Connecticut” and it’s almost impossible not to let your mind wander to perfectly styled soirees filled with preppy meets classic details and elegant parties just made for dancing the night away.  That’s because in Greenwich, they really know how to throw a wedding… and it’s days like this little gem from the talented team of Stella Day Events and IRIS Photography that prove that point whole-heartedly.  From the pretty blooms from Something Special Flowers to the gorgeous gown from Gabriella New York to all kinds of amazingness from Laura Hooper, it’s a non-stop day of pretty.  See it all in the full gallery.

And a little something extra special from Generic Brand Human?  Yes, please.

From IRIS PhotographyA touch of the Riviera on the CT Gold Coast: Dinner Jackets and Jenny Packham bride’s dress set a stylish tone for this seaside wedding with lots of nautical details for this tented wedding at the Riverside Yacht Club in Greenwich, CT. Abundant paperie and a color palette ranging from pastel pinks to bold oranges, ending with a romantic send-off on a 1950’s wooden Riva Italian powerboat.

From Kerri-Lynn of Stella Day EventsIt’s hard to say what I loved most about this simply stunning June wedding in Greenwich, CT. The couple, Maddie and Dave, both attended Georgetown University and our custommade dance floor was filled with Hoyas all night long! It was clear as day that family and friends are one of their main priorities and the goal was to have a carefree and memorable day.

When the planning began, we realized they would be married on the longest day of the year, so we wanted to make sure the day was filled with lots of bright but classic vibes. From the tablecloths to the signature cocktails – rum punch and vodka lemonade – we were able to mix in the right amount of color and fun while still remaining elegant. We teamed up with Lisa Salley of Something Special Flowers to create a colorful candy bar filled with all orange, pink and yellow candies. In addition to the candy bar, she created centerpieces and boutiques filled with both bright and soft pinks, whites and greens. Laura Hooper of Laura Hooper Calligraphy created the invitations, menus and custom maps of the town of Greenwich that were left for guests when they checked into their hotel rooms at the Delamar.

With the reception being held at the bride’s longtime family club, Riverside Yacht Club, we incorporated a bit of ocean flair. From the men’s cufflinks, to the napkins, to the seahorse ice sculpture and stunning topper to the cake created by Sweet Lisa’s Exquisite Cakes, it was just enough flair to a day already filled with so many details.

Maddie wore a stunning Jenny Packham dress from Gabriella NewYork Bridal Salon, while Dave and the groomsmen wore classic off-white dinner jackets. Dave’s custom suit was made by Lord Willy’s in New York and the bridesmaids looked radiant in their Amsale dresses from The Wedding Library.

Social Décor dramatically changed the look of the already spectacular Northeast Tent. We worked with them to create a cheerful, elegant vibe. In addition to the colorful lanterns , they added a mirrored disco ball over the custom dance floor that sparkled throughout the night. Guests enjoyed a steel drum band during cocktail hour before Hank Lane’s Kevin Osborne Band took over and the dance floor was filled all night.

Maddie’s dad and stepmom got married at Riverside Yacht Club when she was a little girl, so it always held a special place in her heart. When it came to looking for wedding locations, Maddie knew it would be the perfect place to start her future with her now husband, Dave.

As the night came to an end, the couple made a mad dash through sparklers and jumped on an antique Riva Italian powerboat owned by a family friend of the bride that once belonged to JFK.

In addition to all the colors and details, this day was filled with such vibrancy between the couple and their family and friends. It was a very special day to be a part of! Thanks to Iris Photography for these incredible images and Generic Brand Human for capturing all of Maddie and Dave’s special moments throughout the day!

From Lisa Smith of white+white weddings and events…When I moved to Australia, I was blown away by the ache I sometimes felt at missing Europe. A couple of months before it was on my doorstep and now it took 24 hours and an increase in my credit card limit to get back to a sultry late summer evening eating al fresco in the Sicilian hills. It’s not such a bad exchange however. Australia has so many incredibly beautiful spots that can easily hint at a stunning Italian hideaway. Coorabella in Byron Bay is one such private residence that ticks every box and then some. Steeped in spectacular European decor from it’s Italian/Australian owners, the property radiates an exotic taste of Italy like no other. Religious relics are arranged in front of a stag head mural with a dozen mini disco balls hanging from the living room ceiling, out of place yet in their perfect place too. Antique Italian laces drape over wooden tables made for social dining and red roses sit amongst european porcelain heaving with freshly baked rosemary bread and olive oil dressings. The concept for the shoot was to absorb the elements of this stunning property and create a Sicilian soiree that wouldn’t look out of place in Palermo. With dresses from George Wu and The Babushka Ballerina, the girls wore their hair big and bouncy, just like a young Sophia Loren, courtesy of Julie Corbett. A seductive flick at the eyes and flawless faces from Alex Ouston gave the models a seamless finish. Wil Valor, an Australian based tailor made sure the men were suited and booted as if they had just walked off the Tom Ford Milan catwalk. Beautifully rustic florals from Stem Designs and furniture with clean simple lines from Little Grey Station added an Italian pizazz so delicate, that it didn’t detract from the feast provided by Your Gourmet, which had us all mouthwatering from the very beginning. Captured by the very talented Ale and Kimmi, the food was plated onto beautiful duck egg blue wedgewood plates from Magnolia Interiors with cut crystal glass wear and vintage silver cutlery adding a special touch. The most important aspect is that I wanted to bring the moorish influence so often seen in Europe, especially throughout Italy and Spain, into the concept too. It’s an influence that is dear to my heart with stunning mosaic tiling hinting at an exotic bygone era. It was the mesmerising swimming pool that set the tone perfectly for our soiree setting and as the sun dipped over the lush Byron hinterland, I couldn’t have been any closer to Europe if I had tried.

Napa Valley Wedding Film from Hit Maker Films

When a wedding starts off with the Groom doing a cannonball into the pool, you know it’s going to be FUN. Hit Maker Films was there to capture the splash, followed by a day of pure love, infectious smiles and happy tears for anyone who chooses to press play.

From Hit Maker FilmsSince Lee’s name sounds like the suffix ‘ly”, he likes to use his name within words like sincereLEE, obviousLEE, and of course JuLEE. From the first moment we pressed the record button we knew Julie and Lee’s wedding was going to be a fun one. How many weddings start off with the groom doing a cannonball into the pool?? They held their wedding in Napa Valley at Mont La Selle formally Christian Brothers Retreat. The day started off with prep as usual with the bride and groom getting ready at separate locations. Then we headed over to Mont La Salle for their first look. They shared a very intimate first look filled with laughs and tears. Next was ceremony, packed with 150 close family and friends. Following ceremony was a real party, when I say party I mean PARTY. These two danced non-stop with their family and friends all night, never taking a breath or sitting down for air. Lastly, they ended the night perfectly with sparklers for a grand send off. We hope you enjoy their jam packed fun day as much as we did!

Maravilla Gardens Wedding from Weddings by Sasha Gulish

Sasha Gulish and stylish weddings go hand in hand. So we knew we should sit down before opening this Maravilla Gardens stunner, but we had no idea just how jaw-droppingly gorgeous it would be. I mean, when you start off with a pair of  Valentino pumps and a Sarah Seven dress, you just know you are in for something good. Featured it in our latest SMP Fashion & Beauty Magazine, this wedding is the gift that keeps on giving. Oh and this gallery is just.that.good.

The Venue… Damien and I are both east coast kids living in LA, who knew as soon as we got engaged, that we wanted an outdoor California wedding. We wanted a laid back ceremony & reception that was easy and fun! I found Maravilla Gardens through a blogger friend of mine. It was the perfect location and they took care of everything including the delicious catering, leaving me with the time and energy to focus on the aesthetics. Being both in entertainment and being a style blogger myself, meant we were surrounded by super creative and talented friends who wanted to help make our day absolutely perfect. Everyone involved with the design elements of our wedding, was a close personal friend (or myself) making it an intimate affair, we’ll remember forever.

Dress & Shoes…I wore a Sarah Seven gown I found at Lovely Bride. After trying on a slew of large princess dresses I thought I wanted, it became clear, once I put on this beauty, that it was THE ONE. Simple yet intricate with a vintage feel. It was also the most comfortable dress and I happily wore it into the wee hours of the night. The shoes were a score the week before the wedding. I had given up on finding “the perfect shoes” which to me were something edgy that I could wear long after our big day. As soon as I “gave up” and decided to go with anything I found, entered a pair of Valentinos that were comfortable and cool, not to mention on sale for 40% off! It was very exciting. My girls wore dresses from Ceremony. I picked out the two colors and let each girl pick what style they wanted. We went for an “old Hollywood glam” vibe with the hair and makeup and they all accessorized themselves to reflect their personal styles.

The Flowers…The flowers were all done by two of my friends and improv teammates, Angela & Stacy. I wanted small bouquets that looked like my bridesmaids had picked them themselves. The location was so lush on it’s own, I didn’t want to overpower it with excess. We visited the wholesale markets in the LA downtown flower district and made prototypes, then a week before the wedding we put in an order. The morning of the wedding, Angela and Stacy picked up the flowers and brought them to our hotel in Camarillo. Together they created all the bouquets and centerpieces and I made my own bouquet. It was perfect and they were beautiful. Not to mention, we saved a ton of money not hiring a florist. More on our DIY wedding flowers here

The Decorations…Having a DIY master/woodworker as a close friend really helps when coming up with decorating ideas for your wedding. My friend C.C. made all the table numbers, the “reserved” signs and the “mr & mrs” signs for our chairs. I printed the menus myself and ordered vintage pencils with our names engraved on them as favors. I loved the look of the pencils but they also had a special meaning because both Damien’s parents are school teachers. A lovely tie in.

The Cake(s) and Cocktails…A friend of ours, gave us amazing advice, he said “Large wedding cakes are almost never delicious, go with a small “wedding cake” and other cakes for dessert.” We did just that. We had a chocolate and vanilla wedding cake that we cut into for the reception then 3 other cakes in Damien’s favorite flavor (carrot), my favorite flavor (coconut) and a crowd pleaser (red velvet). I had a piece of each one and I’ll tell you, they were all equally delicious! For the cocktails, I thought of coming up with two speciality drinks to reflect each of our backgrounds in a quirky way. With that, The Latina (tequila and pineapple with a spicy salt rim) and The Irishman (whiskey and ginger beer with a lime) were born.

The Photography…Sasha had photographed a friend of mine’s wedding and when I saw those photos, I knew I wanted her for our wedding. She has an amazing eye and I absolutely LOVE our pictures. She captures moments and goes way above and beyond typical, posed shots. The photos really captured the amazingly perfect day we had. Plus, she’s the coolest chick around.

You guys, this engagement session from Gemini Photography Ontario is just as adorable as they get. It’s also as beautiful, stunning, romantic (and every other adjective in the book) as they get too. It’s a gallery filled to the brim with love, and one that is sure to inspire any of you cuties looking to add a little sweetness to your next shoot. See it all here.

From Gemini Photography OntarioSarah and Dean took a little cruise on Dean’s parents’ boat and I was lucky enough to capture all of the romance (I was definitely reminded of that one particular scene from The Notebook)! The late summer sun was JUST RIGHT and gave everything it touched a golden hue. After they dipped their toes in the water, they snuggled up by a fire and watched the sun go down.

Veda’s Modern Nursery

Mondays are always infinitely better when our pages are sprinkled with squishy baby goodness. And this baby goodness is especially good because we have a really lovely, modern nursery tour to boot. It’s bright, it’s fun, and, captured by Sarah Kate, it can all be found RIGHT here.

From Sarah.. Brianne Denton, of Blue Lotus, had a baby girl! Veda Cortez was born on in September with chubby cheeks and a head full of hair! Mom, a floral designer, and dad, a landscape and aquatic specialist, have such a groovy house and Veda’s nursery is no exception. Brianne handpicked her eclectic array of furniture. The crib, from casa kids, a glider from west elm, an antique mid-century modern dresser, a painting she made herself, an aztec rug from Urban Outfitter, and a handmade changing table from dad! And would you believe her mobile is handmade (thanks Pinterest!) Their pups, Diego and Taco are very pleased with the addition to the family!

From the gorgeous bride… Like most brides, I had been planning my wedding since I was a little girl. My vision began with a colorful Lisa Frank inspired wedding and culminated into a beautiful rustic-chic affair. Even though I had abandoned my Lisa Frank ambitions, the little girl in me still desired a fairy-tale wedding, complete with tiara, and poofy dress. I had to have a poofy dress.

I wanted to feel like a princess.

After my engagement, I began the search for a venue. Initially, I had wanted to be married in my current city of Lexington, KY, right in the heart of horse-country. After searching high and low for the perfect venue, I happened upon the beautiful Coal Reserve in Somerset, KY, only an hour’s drive away. There was a nostalgic appeal as well, since Somerset is my hometown.

I visited The Coal Reserve and was sold. I was blown away by the breathtaking architecture. It was the sort of unique I was looking for.

Since I had been planning my wedding long before my engagement (oh yes, the eager girlfriend!…luckily he was okay with my need to plan), I already had a general idea of who I wanted to make my cake, photograph my wedding, and deejay. It wasn’t until I went to the How Charming Bridal show that I found my floral and event designer.

Vendors secured, I began working out the details. I scoured Pinterest. I liked blogs on Facebook. It was my mother who suggested Style Me Pretty. In fact, my wedding cake was inspired by a photo on this blog. Let me just say, it was stunning.

Inspiration in hand, I had a vision in mind. It was an overwhelming vision but this was THE day. This was the day I had been waiting for, the day I had been dreaming of. This was it. It had to be perfect.

My Matron of Honor and best friend is super-crafty, incredibly artistic, and just all-around talented. I had the vision, she helped me bring it to fruition. Together, we made twenty-eight tissue-paper pom poms and a burlap banner that said, “Mr & Mrs.” We crafted a sign for her son to carry that read, “Uncle Lee, Here She Comes.” Our most laughable endeavor was cutting yards upon yards of tulle for chair sashes. We devised a clever plan in a living room not quite equipped for cutting that much fabric. Operation Tulle Cutting was a success!

Her largest contribution to my big day, being my Matron of Honor aside, was making the dress for my flower girl, her daughter. I sent her several photos of what I liked about different flower girl dresses and described to her what I wanted and she made it! It was the most beautiful dress I had ever laid eyes on. And to have had such a personal touch in my wedding meant the world to me.

This wasn’t the only sentimental touch to my wedding. My husband’s nanny is a seamstress. She did all of my alterations flawlessly and happily. The single thing that will always hold a special place in my heart, however, is my veil. She made my cathedral-length veil. It was when I saw it in her living-room that I was brought to tears. I was going to be a princess and she had helped this happen. It’s a piece of my wedding that I’ll hold on to for posterity and cherish forever.

I poured my heart and soul into my wedding. The week before my wedding was the most stressful week of my life. I was happy, definitely, but my vision had to be perfect! I was watching the weather carefully and rain was being forecast for my outdoor wedding. I was disheartened. In an act of desperation, I posted a message on the local weather guy’s Facebook page (Bill Meck…he’s super awesome) about the forecast for September 21, 2013 in Somerset, KY. I was hoping for a different forecast. Much to my surprise, he responded. He wished me well but said it would be raining.

A not-as-pretty Plan B was devised for the inevitable rain. My fairy-tale wedding was falling apart before me. I told myself that ultimately, it didn’t matter, because I was marrying the love of my life and rain or no rain, this was the important thing. I started searching online for cute umbrellas.

A couple of days before the big day, weatherman Bill Meck commented on the post again. He said that there was a possibility the rain would clear up later in the day but he didn’t want to get my hopes up. I was left hoping.

We rehearsed both plans.

A few days before the wedding, my mother, mother-in-law, and family friend who also helped with day-of coordination, helped me set up at the venue. My mother-in-law ironed the burlap overlays I had purchased on Etsy. My mother and family friend tied fifty-six tulle sashes onto the gorgeous Chiavari chairs. They tediously wired twenty-eight tissue paper pom-poms to every other chair. My vision was being brought to life. I was overwhelmed with emotion.

They helped me tie the stamped circles I had done that said, “Thanks So Much” with the wedding date, to mason jar mugs for the favors.

While they worked on assembly, I wrote the menu on a chalkboard my mother had made from an old picture frame.

Several hours later, our hard work was showing results. I looked at the reception hall in awe. Every small detail had come together perfectly in a venue so appropriately suited for my big day.

The day before the wedding had arrived. I had made a schedule for myself the night before, after making a wire-hanger that read, “Mrs. Cook.” and printing the programs I had designed. This schedule was strict, as I still had much to do before the rehearsal. I still had to buy shoes for our special first dance. We had taken dance lessons and our dance had me twirling. I knew there was absolutely no way I could twirl in five inch heels. I opted for a shorter and wider heel.

I finally had the opportunity to relax while I was getting my nails done. The best part of this, however, was convincing my other half to get a manicure. Watching a man who has never been to a nail salon try to navigate his way around is a reward in and of itself. Perhaps more rewarding is knowing that he did it for me.

The time for the rehearsal had come and emotions were high. The mothers couldn’t stop crying.

The night of my wedding, I obsessively checked the weather online. The hourly forecast had rain ending around 4 pm. I was evermore hopeful, since my wedding was to start at 5:30 pm.

My happiest day had arrived, heralded in by rain and humidity. Makeup was applied, hair was curled, teased, and sprayed. Dresses were put on. My dress was a thirty-minute adventure between my mom, mother-in-law, and husband’s nanny. Luckily, it had been altered so I could step into it. My hair remained fabulous.

The rain stopped, the sun shined brightly. My outdoor wedding was going to happen!

The time had come for portraits of the bridal party. We headed outside for the first-time, for photos, and the cool breeze hit us. Not only had the sun come out but the temperature had dropped to the upper sixties. And it was clear. This was a clear unlike other days. The sky was a beautiful blue and the clouds were a vibrant white. I can remember this vividly as I was walking through the grass with my bridal party because it was the first time I had seen the altar assembled and the chairs put out for the ceremony. I remember how HAPPY I was because everything was so perfect.

After our photos, the guys had their turn. All that was left was waiting; waiting to make my walk down the aisle to my dapper man.

Thirty minutes before the ceremony, I had to be stowed away upstairs so no one could see me. The caterer came up to me and asked me what my husband would be having to drink at the reception. I became emotional because it was the first time someone had referred to my groom as, “your husband.”

My mom soon joined me upstairs. She desperately wanted to give me my something borrowed but we were short on time and I told her not to worry about it. She was insistent. She pulled out of her purse her wedding band tied to a pretty pink ribbon. She began to cry. She told me that her wedding band symbolized so much to her and was so very precious to her and that she very much wanted me to have it as I walked down the aisle and made the same promises she made so many years ago. She told me how good my father had been to her. I had to look away from her in an effort to keep from crying. She tied the ribbon on my left wrist.

I was a mess of nerves. We opted not to do a reveal so I hadn’t seen my groom since the night before. I needed him desperately. It was almost time but the wait seemed like forever. The moments right before my walk down the aisle were surreal. It was a feeling I can’t quite describe. Everything was happening so fast yet so slowly. I can remember panicking and my brother-in-law came up to me. He didn’t say a word. He just held my hand in a silent attempt to calm me. His gesture was heartfelt and one I’ll always hold dear to my heart.

I can remember my father’s expression when he saw me for the first time, as he was preparing himself to walk me down the aisle. My dad doesn’t outwardly express how he feels often. I could tell this was going to be an emotional day for him. He didn’t say it but I knew he thought I looked beautiful. That was all I needed.

Everyone had made their walk down the aisle and were in their places. The doors were closed. It was my turn.

The doors opened and I saw everyone. I was nervous. My father tells that he felt my weight shift a bit on him. I wonder if this is the real reason brides are walked down the aisle by their fathers; support until the day he gives her away.

Then I saw him. I saw my groom and immediately, I was calm. He won’t admit it, but there were tears in his eyes. His composure was definitely affected. I was his princess.

My father kissed me on the cheek and shook my groom’s hand and gave me away. My groom held my shaky hands and mouthed that he loved me.

The ceremony commenced smoothly and beautifully. The scenery was beautiful, the altar was exactly as I had envisioned. The violinist didn’t miss a note and our nearest and dearest were there to witness our vows, to support our journey as husband and wife.

I was happy. I am happy.

We were pronounced husband and wife and I grabbed my groom’s bald head and kissed him! We walked happily down the aisle.

The reception was just as fabulous. We love eighties music and chose, “I’ve Had The Time of My Life” as our song. We did an easier version of the Dirty Dancing dance. He twirled me like a princess.

When I turned sixteen, my father wrote in my birthday card, “but whatever road you choose, I’m right behind you, win or lose.” I can remember being moved to tears by this and ever since, Rod Stewart’s “Forever Young” has held a very special place in my heart. This is why I chose it for the dance with my father.

I didn’t expect to get emotional during the dance. I did well until this lyric played. I broke down. I mean, I really broke down. It was in that moment that I knew I wasn’t his anymore. It was in that moment that I thought about everything that he had done for me, to support me, all the way up to walking me down the aisle.

My groom’s dance with his mother was just as emotional. She was so happy and so proud of her baby. He chose Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me” for their song. He had definitely gotten to his mom’s heart with that song. He twirled her, too, though, and she smiled.

The Best Man and Matron of Honor gave their touching speeches. The Best Man surprised me. As the brother of my groom, we had often disagreed and sometimes argued, but on that day, I saw how he truly felt about me. He had had something written down but then opted to speak without it. He first told a story about his little brother, my groom. It was what came next that surprised me. He explained to the audience how I had stuck by my groom’s side through his back injury and surgery, and how my support never faltered. He got choked up. It was then that I realized that he understood just how much I loved his brother. It was then that I realized I had his approval. He knew that I would uphold my vow to love and cherish his little brother, in sickness and in health.

My Matron of Honor is my best friend but she was my groom’s best friend first, then I stole her away. This made her speech so very special. She said wonderful things about both of us and said it was a perfect day that her two best friends would marry one another.

We cut our gorgeous cake. We drank our sparkling cider. We said our thank yous. We danced some more.

At midnight, we had one last dance to “Everything I Do” by Bryan Adams. We had often danced in our living room to this song.

My wedding and reception were beautiful. All of my planning, all of the hard work, the exceptional vendors I had hired, all of it, had paid off and the results were stunning. More than that though, it was the sentimental things that I’ll never, ever forget. My veil, the speeches, my first dance, my emotional dance with my father, my groom’s love for me…these are the happiest parts of my life.

During the reception, I had stepped outside to take a break from dancing. My father was outside and he pointed out to me a dove nested under the roof of the venue. He said it was a good sign.

I got to be a princess and my wedding day was as magical as a fairy-tale.

St. Louis Garden Wedding from Clary Pfeiffer

I am the biggest, biggest fan of Clary Pfeiffer and it has everything to do with those dreamy, light-filled images of hers. And this couple, gave her so very much to work with in a St. Louis garden inspired wedding woven with pretty touches like peach garden roses whipped up by Wildflowers and a lace dress by Vera Wang that will forever be one of my favorites. So go ahead, grab all the pretty peaks your heart desires right here in the full gallery.

From the Bride… David and I met at a dive bar in Denver. I had just moved to Denver a few months before from Chicago and my roommates had convinced me to go out on the town. I remember seeing David across the bar and thinking he was handsome. David came up to me a bit later and told me that I looked familiar. I let him probe with questions for a bit but having just moved there I knew it was unlikely we had met before. I thought that it had been a cute pick up line though! Later David told me this was the pick up line his brother had used on his future wife and that is why he had used it. Somehow during our conversation we ended up talking about my favorite ice cream in Denver (salted oreo, so good) and we made a date to get some the next night. Our ice cream date lasted into the morning hours talking under the stars. I called my Mom the next day and told her I had met the man I was going to marry. David and I saw each other the next 10 days in a row and the rest is beautiful, ice cream filled history.

David and I spend a lot of time outside; adventures in nature are a big part of the reason we each moved to Denver. After we got engaged we knew our top priority was to be surrounded by the beauty of the outdoors. While on a visit to St. Louis to see David’s family we were on our way to get….. ice cream (I told you it is big part of our relationship) and we saw the Worlds Fair Pavilion in Forest Park lit up at night perched atop a beautiful hill. We chose it that night as our location and from there prioritized the comfort of our guests, the incorporation of our casual style, and making the nature and the outdoors center stage. Our vision included a more casual garden attire, lots of lush green garden inspired florals, giant palms, and the simplicity of twinkle lights highlighting an incredible terrace overlooking the park. My Mom and I made fan programs, and fabric ribbons to wave for our recessional. We were so pleased that our day really felt like us and embodied our life together, and beyond grateful to share it with the people we love the most.

From Hit Maker FilmsWe loaded up the car and headed back to Monterey for Young and Stas wedding. Their sea side wedding was held at the beautiful Monterey Plaza. The ocean view during their ceremony was simply amazing. Young and Stas have known each other for 13 years, talk about a jumping the gun. Stas proposed to Young in Russian Hill on his way to a charity dinner. He decided to propose at the top of Russian Hill in a small park that Young and Stas used to walk through quite often. Young soon found out there was no Charity Dinner when Stas romantically Proposed. Young and Stas wedding day was filled with love and laughter, were truly lucky to have couples like them and honored to be entrusted to film their big day! We hope you enjoy.

Philadelphia Wedding from La Petite Fleur Weddings and Events

This darling day hits all of my wedding sweet spots… it’s romantic, stunningly gorgeous and chock-full of whimsy.  A bloom-filled paradise crafted by the ever-talented La Petite Fleur Weddings and Events with some of the coolest details you will ever lay your eyes upon.  Think tea cups, vintage books and china table numbers and you haven’t even begun to crack the awesomeness.  See it all captured by Jason Messer and Gene Smirnov right here.

From La Petite Fleur Weddings and Events… Ivy League graduates with a love of rowing and tea, Mary Pat and Karl wanted the history they had been making together to be reflected in their June 15th wedding at the historic Philadelphia Horticultural Center.

It was all about blending the couple’s history and interests with the beauty of their blush palette to create their big day look. To get started, La Petite Fleur pulled from its library of style— mixing and matching mercury and milk glassware filled with lush garden blooms, with the Wixted Family’s heirloom china, tea sets and books (many belonged to Mary Pat’s father in college)— to create a scheme with interest at every turn.

LPF also designed an installation that literally ‘framed’ the head table with hand-created paper poppies, accented with vintage tea plates and frames filled with flowers and fabric.

Mary Pat and Karl, both first year MBA candidates at Yale School of Management, reside in New Haven , CT.

Devil’s Thumb Ranch from Love This Day Events

It can be a tad bit challenging to get back into your routine after a luxurious long weekend, but not for us at SMP. No sir. It just means we can to open up our galleries again and showcase weddings like this Devils Thumb Ranch beauty captured by Jamee Photography and planned to perfection by Love This Day Events. It’s all makes for a collection of images worth celebrating, and you can do so here.

From Love This Day Events … Jen and Mike’s September wedding at Devil’s Thumb Ranch was a perfect blend of southern chic and western flair. These two met in med school in North Carolina but were finishing their residencies in Utah so we mixed a soft, southern inspired design (garden roses, astilbe and dusty miller were the base of the floral design) against the rustic luxe backdrop of Devils Thumb Ranch. Even as a little rain passed over the ranch, Jen and Mike stood at the iconic ceremony site and exchanged their vows. During cocktail hour the clouds lifted and the guests were treated to a rainbow and a gorgeous night. And we had a giant golden retriever in a bow tie. What could be better?

San Andres Island Wedding from Valeria Duque Photography

An amazing way to start the work week?  This darling affair captured by Valeria Duque Photography, or as I like to call it, a destination love fest with pretty pink hues, a darling bride and groom and a little “day before” session magic mixed in for good measure.  It’s basically the perfect combo for a whole lot of pretty and you can see it all right here in the full gallery.

From Valeria Duque Photography… When Salua called me last year to tell me she was going to get married in the beautiful island of San Andrés and wanted me to take her pictures I was jumping up and down with joy! not only is the island a gorgeous locations for pictures (pool like ocean, palm trees, white sand, etc…), but I knew Salua and her now husband, Pocho, from another wedding I shot in San Andrés a couple of years ago and they are both such lovely and fun people!

Things got even better when Salu told me that she wanted to do a pre-wedding session around the island the day before, this might seem like a normal thing to do in the US but in Colombia, it’s a miracle when the bride is okay with being seen by the groom before the wedding.  This was a first for me (and I have been shooting weddings in this country for five years now), so I was really looking forward to this afternoon and my expectations were absolutely fulfilled!! We visited some amazing places, like the old baptist church, and La Loma neighbourhood which is the oldest and more typical part of the island!  Afterwards we went to El Cove, a beautiful rocky beach where the sunset is played at it’s best! We rode around in Salua’as brother’s Vespa and had fun with the rest of the pictures, a sweet detail was the sign that they held reading “quiero todo contigo” which means “I want everything with you.”

It was so good to feel calm and have plenty of time to do all kinds of things, and having all of the couple’s attention on the pictures and what we were doing. Normally at a Colombian wedding, I get 20 minutes tops to shoot the couple’s pictures and they are, more often than not, concerned with whether the guests arrived okay, or the band has set up, etc, etc….

The wedding decoration was inspired by the colours of the caribbean and the island, every table was named after a part of the island, and the invitation was an illustration of the couple with the line “hasta que la vida nos alcance” which means “till there’s no more life to live.”  On every plate there was a fortune cookie as a present for each guest with customized quotes selected by the bride and groom.

San Andrés is known for it’s beautiful ocean, that’s known as the sea of seven colours, because of the different shades of blue and green that you can see in it, it’s also a natural reservation and it’s coral reef is one of the most beautiful in the world!

Martha’s Vineyard Wedding from Jocelyn Filley Photography

Let’s talk about Martha’s Vineyard weddings for a minute, shall we?  Because this beautiful backyard affair?  It’s the epitome of Martha’s Vineyard perfection, with an extra dose of pretty.  Think beautiful blooms from Tea Lane Farm, a crazy gorgeous tented reception and one heartwarming moment after another captured by Jocelyn Filley.  See them all right here in the full gallery.

From the Bride… James and I met in New York and now we live in London, but I always knew that I wanted to get married on Martha’s Vineyard. I have been going to the island since I was born and James has joined for the past few years. It is the only place where we can both completely unplug and unwind and we wanted to share that relaxing experience, as well as the beauty of the island, with our closest friends and family. We decided to keep our invite list small (under 40) and most of our guests stayed close by in houses that we rented. It was a great way to bring our friends and family from both sides of the Atlantic together!

Having our wedding on the Vineyard made planning much simpler, as we only had two or three vendors to choose from for each category. For me, the highlight of the process was designing and personalizing our invitations, right down to creating a font with my handwriting. We screen printed the invitations in white on kraft paper and included in the package a weekend schedule, packing checklist and detachable RSVP postcard. I had a lot of fun searching on eBay to find vintage stamps that fit our Martha’s Vineyard theme, including a ferryboat, an egret and a Coast Guard tribute, all in the blue-green colors of the ocean. I also designed welcome tote bags for our guests that featured a hand-drawn map of the island. Inside we included snacks (Cape Cod chips, chocolate with sea salt and bottled water), sunscreen, the Vineyard Gazette and a fun beach game (Kadima, frisbee, etc.). I also designed a map with illustrations of all of our favorite places on the island and short descriptions. Instead of a guest book, we included vintage Vineyard postcards in the welcome bags and asked our guests to send them back to us so we would have mail waiting when we returned to London.

Our invitations invited our friends and family to “a relaxed weekend of feasting and sunbathing.”  Even though our wedding weekend was cloudy, we still spent every day at the beach and we certainly feasted in the evenings. We kicked off the weekend with welcome drinks on Thursday night, featuring seafood chowder, lobster rolls and a make-your-own G&T bar. People stopped by as they arrived on island and we danced the night away to the tunes of our friend, DJ Sinton.

On Friday night, we hosted drinks and dinner at Beetlebung farm, a quintessential Vineyard experience that showcased local produce and culinary talent. Our guests sipped Bramble cocktails with blackberries from the farm and nibbled on yummy appetizers, including green beans fresh off the vine and red and yellow tomatoes. We then sat down to dinner in the greenhouse–a pasta course with summer vegetables followed by chicken and whole fish roasted in the outdoor kitchen. We finished with a simple dessert of berries, fresh cream and Chilmark chocolates.

The wedding was held on Saturday at a private home in Chilmark. We set up a tent at the top of the hill, overlooking the water. Mike Benjamin played an acoustic rendition of Van Morrison’s Crazy Love as my parents walked me down the “aisle,” a freshly mown path that sloped down to a small rise where our guests were waiting. We knew we wanted to keep the ceremony short and sweet so we nixed the idea of chairs and just asked our friends and family to gather around us. James and I stood on a sequined Moroccan wedding blanket, a tribute to my grandmother, and exchanged vows that we had each written. Given that I had planned every detail of the day, it was nice to know that I could look forward to at least one surprise. It turned out the big surprise was that our vows were very similar!

After the ceremony, everyone climbed up the hill for cocktails (Moscow Mules and Roasted Orange Negronis), appetizers and oysters. We set up two long farm tables in the tent and I found great pink and orange napkins at Anthropologie to set the color palette. With the napkins as inspiration, Krishana Collins did a phenomenal job with the flowers, creating small arrangements in vintage glass and milk glass containers. Each one was unique and they looked beautiful scattered along white linen runners on the farm tables. The final touch that pulled the tent together came from our wedding coordinator, Emily Coulter. She strung hundreds of peach lisianthus flowers on fishing line and suspended them over the dance floor. As they bobbed on the line, the flowers looked like they were dancing in the wind and gave the tent a magical feeling. By far, the best part of Saturday night was Mike Benjamin and his seven-piece band, who kept us on our feet dancing all night long.

Since most of our guests weren’t leaving until Monday morning, we capped the weekend off with make-your-own pizza night at the Orange Peel Bakery in Aquinnah. Everyone gathered around the outdoor oven, drinking wine and coming up with creative topping combinations. It was a fun and delicious way to end our weekend of feasting!

From KiraKira… Ethereal and light, this Northern California wedding shoot by Jyllian Victoria captures the essence of KiraKira jewelry and handbags.

For the dress rehearsal the bride wears white and black. With a dreamy golden field as the backdrop, the bride to be wears a white lace Milly top carries KiraKira’s black nappa leather and calf hair clutch. The pearl and white sapphire trim Kori studs and white shimmer druzy ring compliment her simple black and white look.

For the outdoor ceremony, the bride wears a simple, airy gown by vintage gown by Pronovias designer, Manuel Mota, and antique inspired KiraKira jewels. The groom wears the Santorini wedding band, inspired by the texture of driftwood. The ivy growing over the branches and barn’s façade and the warm sunlight filtering though the natural canopy lent the ceremony a feeling of enchantment.

With her hair in a romantic loose chignon, the 18k yellow gold antique cut topaz Santorini drop earrings glitter around the bride’s face and under her floral wreath of ivy and pale purple hydrangea. Elizabeth’s ‘Ivy’ wedding band is a delicate double row of white diamonds set between two 18k yellow gold rope bands. Drawing from the lavender palette, Elizabeth wears on her right hand a rose-de-france rose cut amethyst ring set in 18k white gold.

The bouquet incorporates the serene pastel hues and textures from the natural setting. Grapes, lily pads and chrysanthemums pull in the soft greens and lilacs of the landscape and even the apricot shade of the sunset sky.

The reception, held in an open barn, is a beautiful, nostalgic setting, decorated simply by loosely strung white lights and light streaming through the wood panels. Here the barefoot bride wears a lace dress and adds some sparkle to her look with KiraKira’s white shimmer pave Kori earrings.

The ‘Kori’ collection, meaning ‘ice’ in Japanese, incorporates beautiful shimmering natural geodes and druzy agates. A pave white sapphire trim adds a finished contrast and a little more sparkle to the beautiful raw stones. On her fingers she wears the thin Santorini band in 18k yellow gold and the antique cut mother of pearl Gemma ring which accents the pointelle details of her dress.

KiraKira creates delicate, dreamy and ethereal jewels and accessories for both brides and bridal parties!

Meredith Heron’s Go-To Paint Colors

Allow me to introduce you to the incredible Meredith Heron. As a Toronto based interior designer, this fiery red-head is not afraid to tell you what’s what when it comes to design. And if there’s anyone I trust with the fate of my walls, it’s this girl right here. You may want to take a notes as she spills some of her best kept paint secrets. And feel free to take a closer look at each of these rooms right here!

Meredith Heron‘s go-to paint colors, in short:

#1 – Para Paints St. Boniface: It’s a wonderful mutable shade of indigo. The perfect neutral!

#2 – Pratt & Lambert Seed Pearl: I love this white. It’s the perfect warm (but not overly so) white. I often use this as my wall colour and then layer in other colours, textures and patterns, which always play nicely with it.

#3 – Benjamin Moore Soft White: I love using this colour in dressingroom ceilings as it makes you look even better when you’re getting dressed!

#4 – Benjamin Moore Gray Owl: The perfect gray!

Bitterroot Valley Wedding from Paige Jones Photography

DIY’ing a wedding with 170+ guests is a ginormously brave undertaking and one that proves this Bride and Groom are so meant to be. Together they crafted their heart and souls into this Montana affair. It’s a classic tented wedding in the great outdoors with florals by White Antler Flowers and festivities wrapped in the true essence of easy elegance. Paige Jones photographed all the beauty and you can see even more from the day right here in the full gallery.

My husband, Fritz, and I met almost five years ago at a friend’s birthday dinner. Since then we’ve traveled around the world (proposed to me on a hilltop in Florence Italy!), moved from coast to coast, and both started our own companies – together – and planning our special day was no different. Although at 170+ people, we considered our wedding an intimate event. Our prerequisite is that we knew every guest at our wedding and that those people had been active parts of our lives together. I was in charge of all the aesthetics of the event, while Fritz handled a lot of the organizational work. We opted to not have a planner, calligrapher, or even an event designer so our guests felt as if they were walking into our homes and experienced the details that are unique to us as a couple.

It was somewhat of a DIY event. Fritz coming from a large family, we enlisted his four younger brothers, cousins, aunts, and our close friends to help with the video production, paper suite, flower arranging, hair, dress alterations, our best man and brother singing our first dance to our friend officiating the wedding. I did my own makeup, hand addressed each invite, and had a lot of things custom made on Etsy. Even my dress was a bit of a DIY project. I purchased an off-the-rack 2009 Jason Wu dress that was a little big and a little too much “floof” but I saw my dream dress in it – so I hired an amazing couturiere to reconstruct it into my dream dress. The transformation was really amazing and now I have a unique one-of-a-kind dress. Maybe I will die it to wear again?!

We chose Hamilton, Montana as it’s a city we discovered together, near where I grew up in Idaho. Living in New York, it’s a place we love to escape to the outdoors to satiate Fritz’s love for fly fishing, be one with the great outdoors, and get much needed r&r. I dream of moving there one day and I think after our wedding weekend, Hamilton has a lot of converts! Our guests probably expected a western affair in a barn, but we opted for the Daly Mansion as our venue as it was more our style with it’s Gatsby-like charm. While my vision for the event was “a rustic Gatsby affair” I didn’t tell the guests as I really wanted the event to look natural and modern, rather than costume-y. For the reception music we hired a 17 piece Big Band that played 1920’s jazz, and I am pretty sure it was one of mine and our guests favorite parts about the wedding. We ended the evening with two hours of Motown spinning on Vinyl. The dance floor was packed until we had to leave!

The single western element was a horseshoe that our officiant had blessed for us by the Dalai Lama. We passed to all of our guests to bless them as well. For our guestbook, we ordered a vintage map of the world and had our guests “pick your home and sign your name” as we basically had guests travel from every continent but Antarctica. It will be the start of our vintage map collection. I didn’t really have a color palette but I didn’t want my maids in black as I knew having a black tie event most of the guests would show in black. I wanted to make sure that the decor and color palette was in sync with the Daly and it’s natural surroundings. I am not one to have things too “decorated”.

We were pretty relaxed about the details. One example was our flowers. I had no idea what they were going to look like until I sat down to eat dinner. I used a cut farm called White Antler Farms and could only cut what was in season. I only paid for my bouquet and a few other small details to be done by the owner of the farm as she usually doesn’t do floral design, so I enlisted my husband’s talented aunt to arrange flowers for tables. They turned out beautifully and better than I dreamed of.

Our cocktails and food were all inspired by the 20’s and what could be sourced locally. The cake was a spin on Fritz’s favorite cake as a child – dirt cake.. you know the cake with oreo cookie crumbles and gummy worms? Our cake maker landed on a sophisticated spin and made a gluten free top tier for me and other GF guests. We also had sweet and savory pies with salted caramel ice cream delivered around 9:00 PM to fuel guests to keep them dancing until 11:00 PM. I was surprisingly zen on our wedding day. Zero nerves and felt overwhelmed with happiness. Some of my favorite intimate moments were the first look, seeing my bridal party all dressed up in their gorgeous dresses, especially those adorable mini maids, and the crazy wind that picked up during our ceremony and swept away my veil. It was all so romantic and magical and a happy day I will always remember.

Whimsical

From Tracey Buyce Photography… Mary and Drew met in their church and the vicar who introduced them married them. Drew proposed on a cross country road trip on top of a cliff at Big Sur.  Mary, who trained formally as a fashion designer in London, runs a business in the UK called Party Pants that hosts knicker-making classes for hens (or bachelorettes) to quite literally stitch before they hitch and create their very own bespoke knickers.

The most important aspect to Mary & Drew on their wedding day was to have the wedding in a very special place where nature had been uninterrupted and where they would keep going to for the rest of their lives.  The location was deep in the Adirondack wilderness – a perfect location overlooking nothing but nature and pristine Goose Pond. It took over a month to build the platforms and infrastructure to set the stage with multiple tents that would indeed be a village when completed. The view from the boardwalk style deck was picture perfect.  Mary painted maps that were in all of the guests’ hotel rooms so that they could find the wedding site.

Mary trained as a fashion designer in London and so she naturally made her dress for her wedding day. It took seven months to make; five months perfecting the pattern and toiles (there were 65 pattern pieces in total) and then two months to sew! The lace alone took 3.5 months to be spun in France and once delivered to London she layered the lace over masses of cream silk crepe, fine crepe lining and a tulle underskirt. Mary said “it was amazing to be in complete control and to play with details, alter and work with the cloth in a relaxed way (starting early took the pressure off!) and finish with exactly the dress I initially drew up in my head.” Mary’s wedding dress epitomized her style with romantic tumbling lace juxtaposed with the structured duchess silk bands that wrapped tightly round her corseted top.

The bridal party was all the nieces and nephews of the bride, seven flower girls and three page boys. Mary made all of their outfits.

Mary’s countryside upbringing with shopping trips to London influenced the designs to be whimsical yet chic and refined like the rural/urban worlds. Mary designed and created the flower girl dresses similarly using super soft pale cream cotton, ballet pink silk linen sashes and then adding the all important detail in the top stitching, the covered buttons and She even made Drew’s morning coat.

The ceremony took place in a quaint chapel made of stone and glass and could not-have been more perfect. The ceremony was simple so the bones of the stone structure built in the 1930’s would not be interrupted with too much fuss. Fresh roping of variegated and Italian pittisporum wrapped the wooden porch to the west of the chapel as well as the iron rails below the high alter. The pulpit and stairs were lined with lush blooms of peony, garden roses, jasmine vine and David Austin roses. Pots of maiden hair ferns were set at the entrance as well. The hooks in the church that once held lanterns were ornamented with spheres of gypsophelia hung from vintage canvas strapping.

Their get a away car was Drew’s first car that he bought when he was 16!

The reception had tables with two distinct styles.  The farm tables were topped with a hemp runner and hand made drift wood lanterns, these were scattered on the tables with twine wrapped votives and assorted small vases with lush blooms. The chargers were made of woven rattan and each place setting had a cream tea towel as a napkin tied with ribbon. The chairs at these tables were custom made for the event, dark cherry finish with a ladder back. Each seat had a custom made cushion with a lofty 1.5” insert that were tied onto the chair.  The round tables were draped to the floor in bleached burlap lined cloths with an overlay of white swiss dot hemstitch linen overlays. The flowers were designed in a combination of vessels both enamelware and porcelain, layers of flowers cascaded from them in hues of white, cream, mint, and blush. Each guest had a charger of white porcelain with a taupe boarder topped with a white swiss dot hemstitch linen napkin. The chairs at these tables were also custom made but had an X back on them in the same beautiful cherry finish.

The head table was a massive yards or baltic ivy with blooms that cascaded off of the table and on to the floor. Above the tables were wreaths of birch and blue berry had assorted size round bubbles with votives in them dancing over head.

The room was opened to the elements and soft breeze of Goose pond. Barcelona lights were draped in the ceiling in a whimsical pattern to illuminate ceiling of the tent while it was washed with blush lights to enhance the effect of sunset.

Belvoir Castle, England Wedding from Catherine Mead Photography

After spending more time than I care to admit with these images from Catherine Mead, I am fully convinced that this wedding was a real life fairytale. It was a weekend full of what dreams are made of – an english garden wedding, a black tie reception and a farewell brunch so beautiful it deserves a much lovelier name (complete with a helicopter send off). There is no question this Bride and Groom are set for happily ever after, and you can see why right here.

From Catherine MeadA wonderful three day wedding in an English castle in the middle of England’s rolling countryside. The guests checked into their 19th Century castle bedrooms, ahead of three days of celebrations. The wedding commenced on Friday night with a welcome rehearsal dinner for close friends and family members in a candlelit grand ballroom.

Saturday’s celebrations were split into two parts, the wedding ceremony in a beautiful ancient chapel hidden away within the walls of the castle, complete with vaulted ceilings and a choir. Guests then retired to the gardens for a drinks reception amongst resident peacocks and their young.

All of the guests then retired to their rooms to prepare for the evening’s Black Tie dinner in a secret part of the Castle, usually reserved for the owners. After dinner and speeches, a cannon was fired on the terrace to announce that the evening festivities would continue down in the vaults of the castle.

Dancing below ancient armoury & swords, amidst a neon lit saxophonist, Ibiza’s top DJ Dan Healy and an impressive cocktail bar, the castle experienced some 21st century partying until sunrise!

Sunday greeted its guests with a goodbye brunch on the terrace, complete with archery and resident falconry. As a complete surprise to the bride, the couple bade farewell to their guests as the bride’s new husband whisked her away in a helicopter to start their honeymoon in style.
