A Colorful Celebration of Chinese and Spanish Cultures at La Venta Inn

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”The Inspiration”]

We love seeing people from a multitude of backgrounds find love, and when two people from different cultures find themselves on the wedding planning journey, we know that they are looking for ways to incorporate who they are separately into who they will be together. This Spanish Chinese fusion wedding was designed by planner Sarah Wang who specializes in Chinese American weddings and is Taiwanese herself. Her goal is to deliver well though-out designs that not only honor the Chinese culture but also partners with other cultures and traditions as she often works with couples that come from different backgrounds. The beautiful grounds and architecture of the Spanish Villa, La Venta Inn, served as the perfect backdrop and inspiration for this Spanish Chinese editorial.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Red is a prominent color for Chinese weddings as they signify happiness, fortune and success. This editorial blends red with an array of colors including fuchsia, burgundy, peach, blush, cream, and gold. These colors paired with Chinoiserie and Spanish Tile tie in the modern and fresh fusion feel of this design.[/field]
[field title=”The Venue”]The venue, La Venta Inn, is a historic Spanish Villa with breathtaking ocean views nestled in the hills of Palos Verdes Estates. [/field]

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

As a fusion wedding, the main goal was to incorporate details that felt special to both Chinese and Spanish cultures. The Chinese double happiness symbol was modernized with a circular design and paired with other elements such as Spanish Tile, Orange Blossoms Fortune Cookies and Chinoiserie patterned fans and vases. We also incorporated foods that hold a special meaning in the Chinese culture; for example, the pomegranate with its many seeds symbolizes fertility, abundance, posterity and virtuous offspring, the longan fruit, which means prosperity and wealth, the tangerine, which means good luck. If you look closely, the blue Spanish tile vellum band on the invitation is the same design on the cake and is inspired by the Spanish tile decorating La Venta Inn’s courtyard fountain. The double happiness symbol is always used at Chinese weddings. The symbol signifies two people/families coming together as one, it’s double the happiness. The character itself consists of two “happy” characters. This symbol is also on top of the fireplace mantel in our tea ceremony scene in subtle champagne gold color. The place settings were also designed to perfection; the paper used for the place holder fortune cookies have an orange blossom design. Orange trees are so prevalent in Spain, it is no surprise that the orange blossom are the traditional Spanish wedding flower. They represent joy and happiness for the newly married couple, and are also symbolic of fertility. This orange blossom pattern was also used as the envelope liner, a feature we credit to the fabulous paper designer on the team. Under the fortune cookie, a menu card that reads “We’re so fortunate to have you,” adds a playful vibe to the luxury feel of the place setting. The seating chart sign is also a play on words that says “We’re your biggest fans” with a shelf full of chinoiserie fans displayed as the backdrop for the table assignment signs, which match our table number. We incorporated fans as the seating chart, but also replaced the traditional bridal bouquet with a flower filled fan as both the Chinese and Spanish culture have a beautiful history with fans. We incorporated tea sets that are not traditional Chinese tea sets to incorporate the Spanish floral design in our color palette of peach, blush, and red. Red envelopes with cash and gold jewelry are very common gifts parents give the couple during the tea ceremony. Additionally, the bride held a hand-painted fan during the tea ceremony that was brought over from Spain in 2022, it is a unique art piece from one of the remaining street vendors in Madrid.

[/field]
[field title=”Favorite Design Element”]Our team’s favorite design element is the floral fan! It embodies both the traditional beauty of Chinese culture and the passionate Flamenco Spanish vibe. It was a pleasure to tie in both cultures with this one detail.

Our florist did an amazing job designing the fan with real flowers to add vibrancy and texture, each flower was hand glued onto a traditional Chinese hand fan with dark red bamboo frames. It makes us feel like celebrating!![/field]
[field title=”Tips To Pull Off The Look”]We highly encourage any blended couple to be open to smart and intuitive design; allowing both of their backgrounds and cultures to be celebrated. By blending both of their cultures, their guests can enjoy what they already know, but also what they don’t – and in the process find the beauty that connects the couple on a deeper level.[/field]

Autumnal Garden-Style Wedding in Virginia

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]The bride desired a classic, simplistic design aesthetic so a neutral foundational palette of ivory tones was chosen. A soft gray/blue hue made up another large portion of the color palette, a favorite of both the bride and the groom. Then, accents of blush pink and golden autumnal colors were layered into the design to incorporate the natural foliage of Octobers in rural Virginia into the palette.
[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]Intentional. Lucid. Timeless. Comfortable. Refined. Romantic. These were the key words that design team, Jamie Lynn Signature Weddings, used to capture the overall vibe the couple wanted their guests to experience. The design was inspired by the couple’s love for nature and the outdoors, and a goal to blend the bride’s minimalism style with the groom’s desire for some vibrancy and unexpected elements. After creating the color palette based on the couple’s preferences, the vision for florals and design details easily fell into place.
[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]From the bride: “Daniel surprised me and took me to our favorite winery in Charlottesville, Brent Manor Vineyards, which is a small local winery owned by a sweet couple. He proposed there and then all of our friends came to celebrate after. We served the wine from their winery at our wedding!”[/field]

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]The bride wore an A-line satin gown, Mikaella, by Paloma Blanca which she found at Raleigh-based shop, Maggi Bridal. She completed her bridal look with a cathedral veil and white Manolo Blahnik closed-toe pumps.
[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]The bride opted to have all of her ladies wear the same style of tulle floor-length gown by Wtoo by Watters in the steely blue shade of “French Blue.” Bella Bridesmaids in Richmond, VA worked with the bride and her wedding designer to select the perfect dress style to complement a lucid, romantic wedding design aesthetic and our color palette. The tulle skirts created the soft, ethereal movement that only added to the romantic vibe of the wedding day.
[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]The groomsmen were dressed in black slim-fit suits to coordinate with the groom’s custom black tux, all with matching black bow ties. The groom’s initials were embroidered on his dress shirt cuffs.

[board_carousel title=”Cocktail Hour”]

[/board_carousel]
[section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Food & Drink”]During cocktail hour, the culinary team from caterer MOSAIC passed a variety of bite-sized hors d’oeuvres such as sriracha honey chicken meatballs, mini spanakopitas and sweet potato country ham biscuits. Guests at the bar were offered a wide variety of Virginia wines, beers and seltzers. The couple made sure to source some wine for their wedding day from the Virginia winery where they got engaged too! At the reception, guests sat down to a first course salad with a lemon vinaigrette, followed by a plated meal consisting of a seasonal duo of tomato basil chicken and herb roasted salmon filet served with roasted red potatoes and broccolini. Guests that had opted for a vegetarian meal were served butternut squash ravioli with brown butter sage sauce. Once dinner had wined down and the couple cut the cake, servers passed slices of the Ukrop’s marble pound cake with vanilla buttercream and the couple’s signature espresso martinis for dessert.
[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]The couple hired Virginia-based wedding designer and full service planner, Jamie Lynn Signature Weddings, to execute the vision for their wedding. Upon touring the venue for the first time, the main design goal became creating a more intimate, comfortable atmosphere within a very large, open space with tall vaulted ceilings. To accomplish this, the designer brought in several twelve-foot tall trees from a local nursery, added bistro lighting across the space, and collaborated with the floral designer to add statement arrangements throughout the room. The gray/blue hue in the wedding color palette was brought into the reception space in the form of velvet linens to create a sense of warmth and depth. The flowers were arranged in a garden-style manner by the floral team, A Morgan Floral. The arrangements consisted of fall foliage, vibrant greenery, cream blooms in varieties such as butterfly ranunculus and garden roses, and accents of pink and mauve with the incorporation of tulips and roses. Other accents included hydrangeas and berries. The ceremony focal point was the lush, yet not overpowering, floral arch which was repurposed to surround the cake table during the reception. Large white urns at the end of the aisle were transformed by appearing on some tabletops to balance with the scale of the ballroom post-ceremony. The 24-foot long head table for the bridal party was adorned with 3 large arrangements and a series of taper candles and votives in the shades “Mauvelous” from Creative Candles and “Antique Beige” from Yummi Candles. The place settings consisted of floral salad plates and classic gold-rimmed dinner plates with sleek gold flatware and cut glass water goblets. The dance floor was flanked by four of the tall trees and bistro lights which created a romantic canopy overhead as guests danced the night away in front of a 9-piece live band.

The couple wanted to ensure that they loved their ceremony rain plan as much as their “Plan A” outdoor ceremony concept. With careful planning in advance, the backup option became a ceremony space that the couple was just as excited about, and thank goodness for that since heavy rainfall ended up spoiling the outdoor ceremony plans. The ceremony was moved into the reception ballroom, requiring a room flip during cocktail hour. A large white drape installation blocked the cocktail hour space during the ceremony and created a romantic backdrop. The drape was designed to be pulled back to usher guests through to cocktail hour once the ceremony was over, closed for the ballroom flip, and then reopened by being tied back with velvet blue sashes to welcome guests back into the space for dinner. The wall of drapery was on the opposite end of the ballroom from the cake table installation with the floral ceremony arch, which balanced out the room and made it feel complete.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]The couple’s four-tier wedding cake was created by their favorite local Richmond, VA bakery: Ukrop’s. The design of the cake itself was kept minimalistic with a smooth buttercream texture in a taupe hue and no embellishments so that the addition of cascading, fresh florals on the wedding day could be the highlight. Florist, A Morgan Floral, adorned the cake with lush blooms in the same handpicked garden vibe of the rest of the wedding florals to create a focal point in the spacious reception ballroom. The cake sat atop a blue velvet linen and silk runner, and was framed by the couple’s ceremony arch that was repurposed to create this reception statement piece.
[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]Due to heavy rain the day before and the morning of the wedding, the couple chose to proceed with their much-loved rain plan and held their ceremony inside the venue’s large, vaulted ballroom. The bride was escorted down the aisle by her father to “A Thousand Years” played by a live violin/cello duo. A close friend of the couple was the officiant, adding an air of comfort and ease to the ceremony. The Apache Wedding Blessing and the heartwarming poem: “How Falling in Love is Like Owning a Dog” were readings selected by the couple. The latter especially brought a smile to everyone with the words: “Love makes messes. Love leaves you little surprises here and there. Love needs lots of cleaning up after. Sometimes you just want to get love fixed. Sometimes love just wants to go out for a nice long walk…” Immediately following the ceremony, the white drapery was tied back for guests to venture to cocktail hour while the ceremony space was flipped for reception setup.
[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]The signature cocktail of the night was an Espresso Martini garnished with fresh coffee beans and accompanied by cocktail napkins with an image of the couple’s dog hand painted by the groom’s grandfather. The couple opted to serve these with dessert once the cake was cut.
[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]As guests bid the couple farewell at the end of the evening, metallic confetti streamers popped overhead and rained down on the couple as they left their reception.
It was important to the bride to have a statement seating chart, but one that was still in keeping with the minimalistic aesthetic that she loves. The wedding design team, in coordination with stationer Sara Lane Design, created a large freestanding display with oval escort cards tied to the board with luxurious silk ribbon and finished off with fresh florals and a custom wood monogram.

Abigail and Harrison’s classic mid-century modern wedding graced us with a colorful landscape of a floral fantasy. The wedding took place in the iconic tower at the Claremont Club and Spa Resort in Berkeley California. Impeccably planned to perfection by Diana of Simply Elegant by Diana, this above and beyond beautifully styled wedding was surrounded by sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay and the Berkley Hills. The couple said their I do’s in a glamorous fashion recreating a modern-day love story with an old fashion flare. With combined gathered inspiration from Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris” meets “The Marvelous Mrs. Maizel” the wedding was an amalgam of 50’s & 60’s meets swanky french vibe. The design of their florals was incredibly by Amy Burke, of Amy Burke Designs, was inspired by their favorite painting “The Artist’s Garden at Giverny’ by Claude Monet.” The tower where the ceremony was held was filled with an abundance of florals and vines that climbed the tower walls and arches, giving off a painterly French elegance. Amy Burke and her incredible team worked tirelessly in creating very intricate designs of cascading flower builds throughout the day. The sculptural designs in the tower filled the intimate space with lots of different shades of maple and vine greenery with added touches of blush and bright pops of red. The cappuccino roses and light tangerine Dalias added the perfect balance of bright and soft tones. Abigail and Harrison met in a History class at UC Berkeley in 2017. Harrison had sat in a few rows ahead of Abigail and she had found herself staring at him all semester! The adorable pair actually reconnected after they matched on Bumble later that summer. They eded up on a first date and became inseparable from the start when their love story began! Harrison proposed to Abigail on her favorite bridge on the UC Berkeley campus over Strawberry Creek. On one knee, he presented to her his grandmother’s heirloom family ring encrusted with diamonds that had been in their family for generations. Then! He surprised her with the Tower Suite at the Claremont, where champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries awaited them paired with that breath taking view!

From the florist… “When Abbey and Harrison decided to plan a micro wedding in addition to their postponed larger celebration for October 2021, they chose the Tower room in the Claremont Club and Spa Resort because of their ties to UC Berkeley. In addition to both the bride and groom attending UCB for college, Abbey’s family had hosted several other important moments and intimate parties at the hotel, and specifically in the Tower room/suite itself. So, it felt very fitting that they would choose this as the location for their important, very intimate wedding celebration for themselves and their families. We collectively had been so inspired designing their larger event that we all knew we were going to need to come up with something particularly magical and special for this smaller but no less as important event. Both Abbey and Harrison love to travel, and when designing the look for this event, we decided that we wanted to it to feel like a combination of a European garden and walking on the banks of the Seine through their favorite Parisian street markets. So, we chose a mixture of varying shades of blush, fuchsia, plum and green with pops of bright blue for the Tower ceremony, creating an overgrown garden space that appeared to surround the intimate gathering of friends and family. Garden roses, ranunculus, bougainvillea, delphinium, dahlias, snapdragons, violets and Queen Anne’s lace were arranged into hedges that wrapped around every enclave, climaxing into a loose archway that framed the bride and groom at the front of the ceremony. Parisian-style market chairs and tables filled with cheese and vintage glass cloches covering macaroons added to our overall ceremony décor. When designing the reception space, the couple wanted to have a slightly looser, more family-oriented styling, with both color palette and floral choices that reflected this quieter mood. We chose to fill the dining room’s deck with luxurious velvet linens, cut crystal stemware and a combination of blush and caramel colored blooms and candles that added to the view of the Berkeley city skyline. Knowing that the couple are also lovers of history and language, we surprised Abbey and Harrison with touches of French vintage elements throughout the space, tucked into table décor and on lounge tables that they could discover as the evening progressed. This included glass cloches covering vintage books of French poetry, history and authentic love letters from French travelers. Small dishes of mandarin oranges were also tucked throughout the table décor, as a nod to the groom’s family’s orchards. Loose blooms strung from the underside of stationary umbrellas covering the reception area, stings of market lights, and a vintage-inspired set of velvet lounge furniture completed the dining area décor.”

Abigail wore a sophisticated satin princess ball gown with a full A lined skirt by Maggie Sottero. The gown had the perfect amount of jeweled accents and was paired with a perfect block heel. Harrison looked dapper in his white tux and black bow tie. His retro sterling silver starred cufflinks were the perfect accent to the classic look. Following their ceremony guests enjoyed light horderves and champagne as the couple proceeded for their portraits in the tower then around the gorgeous treelined property. Of course with a view like that we had to be sure to get some stunning drone shots, it was very fairytale like. The Claremont Club and Spa Resort so graciously opened the infamous Hilary Tenzig Room where the couple were invited to the private space for some couples portraits. Named after the first climbers to reach the summit of Mt. Everest, the historical room was filled with mid-century mod decor and incredible paintings that hung on the blue walls. Abigail and Harrison were quite a pair savvy in style and sophistication. They both shared a mutual love for for all things retro, really good champagne and the classic well known author Victor Hugo which made an appearance in his books on the sweetheart’s table along with their love letters written to one another in French amidst the table runner of florals and accents of tangerines in the vintage glass bowls. Under small umbrellas that sheltered the tables from the weather, chandelier-like florals hung for the umbrella tops adding more floral extravagance to the private dining experience. After dinner, the couple cut their gold starred glam cake and danced to their favorite songs of the ’50s and ’60s.

This gathering radiates with an abundance of fun and style, where every detail has been thoughtfully curated to create a truly unforgettable experience. Get ready to embark on a journey where luxury meets comfort, and where memories are woven amidst laughter and love.

Haley and Timothy met at a bar in Montauk. They loved the area so much that they wanted to get married there! Before their ceremony, Haley and Tim handwrote their vows and read them to each other in private. In the shade of a centuries-old tree, they grasped each other’s hands and shared their promises. We love a “first touch” as an alternative to the popular first look! The smile on Tim’s face, when he saw Haley walking down the aisle, was all the proof we needed that they made the right choice for them. Their ceremony, beneath a natural wood arbor, was short but sweet. Destination Haus decorated the area with rattan rugs carpeted the aisle, while clear vases filled with pampas grass lined either side. The minimal, earthy color palette was perfect for the simplicity of the backyard setting. Afterward, Haley and Tim trekked to the Montauk Lighthouse with their photographer! Haley’s grandfather loved lighthouses, so she was committed to taking photos there to honor his memory. She and Tim always smile and laugh together, and All in White captured their dynamic beautifully. Haley gathered inspiration from blogs for the couple’s reception design. She picked Destination Haus because she loved their design and overall vibe. Haley didn’t want a wedding, but Tim convinced her that she’d want their loved ones with them which he was right! She wanted the wedding to feel more like a backyard celebration with their closest family and friends than an actual ceremonial wedding. Which is why they chose the direction with DH with more of a picnic style laid-back feel.

Destination Haus arranged a low table draped in white linens and surrounded it with green–and-white patterned cushions so guests could get cozy as they ate. Then, they arranged a whimsical tablescape with sage green chargers, gold cutlery, and white candles. Bud vases with anemones and garden roses that looked freshly picked were the perfect finishing touch. The couple and their guests dined on seasonal fare from Montauk Catering Co as dusk fell. The warm, family-style atmosphere was just as Haley and Tim had pictured it!

From the bride… A fun side story is that we met at a bar called The Point and had our after-party there where we met! The bouncer that randomly introduced us to each other was actually at the bar that night after our wedding! It was a special ending to the evening. Lastly, I reached out to so many Airbnbs, and Aviva was one of the few that actually said yes! It was such a blessing. A huge thing for us is that we wanted to get married in the town where we met and at a location that wasn’t a wedding factory. We wanted it intimate and special, and Aviva’s house was magically perfect.

Old World Spanish Elegance Meets Modern Style in the Rolling Hills of Ojai

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”The Inspiration”]Inspired by the beauty of a spanish sunset Sadie and Tyler’s effortlessly beautiful wedding, married old world spanish elegance with modern sentiment.

Sadie and Tyler got married during the chaos and uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, which at first prevented them from having a wedding celebration. Finally when they were able to have this celebration it was an intimate yet epic affair.

Vibrant sunset colors were woven throughout their wedding and floral design, and perfectly matched the Spanish architecture, and surrounding orchards of their wedding venue. Floral’s were filled with shades of citrus yellow, terracotta pinks, dusty peaches, and burnt sienna orange.

Just how the sunset turns its surroundings to dark shadows, accent hues of black were used in their design to juxtapose, and bring out the vibrancy of the sunset colors. Black is also a common color for catholic spanish brides signifying the bride’s commitment and devotion to her groom “until death do us part.” On the table modern onyx flatware, black shantung napkins, and an intricate black design on the plates created a beautiful black contrast to the sunset colored floral. The 18th century plates were Babele black by Richard Ginori. On top of the plates were beautiful black and white, handmade menus that mirrored the elegant pattern of the surrounding plate.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Shades of citrus yellow, terracotta pinks, dusty peaches, and burnt sienna orange.[/field]
[field title=”The Venue”]Sadie and Tyler’s celebration took place on a private spanish style villa, nestled on 40 acres of private citrus orchards and vineyards, overlooking the entire Ojai California valley. The colors of the surrounding lemon and orange orchards, terra-cotta tile roof, and adobe accents perfectly fit with the color scheme of their day.

Not only did the orange orchards match with the color scheme, but also the Spanish vibe. For Spaniards, orange blossoms represent joy and happiness for the newly married couple. They’re also symbolic of fertility. [/field]

Angela and D’Arcy have traveled to Hawaii every year since they first met. In fact, Angela loves Hawaiian culture so much she started the first Hawaiian poke restaurant group back home in Edmonton. Following their engagement in Santa Margherita in Italy, they knew they wanted to find a secret garden location that reminded them of Italy yet infused the lush tropical feel of Hawaii. They found just that at Haiku Mill. Their design details were classic and timeless.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Angela and D’Arcy went to Italy on their fifth anniversary. D’Arcy surprised Angela with a proposal in the gardens of the Imperiale Palace Hotel in Santa Margherita. It was then that they both knew they wanted a magical secret garden-themed wedding that reminded them of their proposal location.

The ‘Angela’ dress, is an exquisite custom creation that both incorporates Angela’s love of Italian craftsmanship and infuses sentiment into her wedding. Her close family friend, Angela Valle, an Italian-trained dressmaker, custom-designed and hand sewn every detail of her dress. Using lace flown from Italy, the dress took several meetings and fittings over a year to complete. The beading is intricately done by hand, with every decision jointly made by Angela and her dressmaker. The journey to Angela was just as important as the final piece. The bride surprised guests with a dress change before dinner to honor her heritage. She wowed everyone with her traditional Chinese Cheongsam with traditional gold bangles gifted to her by her mother. Her traditional Chinese dress was custom-made in China during a trip with D’Arcy. Angela was touring D’Arcy around China and showing him the country where her family is from. D’Arcy actually bought this dress for Angela before they were even engaged. He always said, “This is for when we get married!”

One of the couple’s joint passions is food, and having a culinary experience for their wedding was a top priority. It was important to the couple to use locally sourced ingredients to provide guests with a local experience. Chef Brian with Cutting Edge Catering freshly caught the fish for fresh catch, and the Catering Edge team paid attention to every detail from plating to service. Hors d’Oeuvres were served during cocktail hour and featured local Hawaiian flavors. They also had a dessert station featuring a nitrogen ice cream station, serving ice cream made right in front of guests. Later in the evening, there was an open fire and S’more station with handmade marshmallows to roast. Fruit tarts were served made with Hawaiian-grown fruits. The couple incorporated their beloved fur babies into their wedding by naming their signature cocktails after their cats! The bride’s signature drink was a Mochi – a refreshing pineapple mojito, while the groom’s signature drink was a Nori, a coconut Negroni. The bride also did all her own stationery and illustrations, including their adorable drink menu!

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Bella Bloom Maui did an amazing job with this classic and timeless floral design. The main focal flowers were roses, ranunculus, and orchids. The bridal bouquet was a classic white and blush bouquet, while deeper berry tones were incorporated throughout the rest of the design. The bride is actually a Canadian-based florist and Bella Bloom Maui welcomed her with open arms. In true Aloha spirit, they invited her to their beautiful floral studio to design her own bridal bouquet and boutonniere. This was incredibly meaningful to Angela and an experience she will treasure forever.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

A mauve-colored red velvet flavor? Yes, please! Angela and D’Arcy’s custom two-tiered cake features a Hawaiian guava tier and a mauve-colored velvet chocolate tier to fit the wedding colors.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

Angela had a custom 14-karat gold plated locket made by Haiku Lane Jewelry to honor her late father. While her father was not there physically to walk her down the aisle, he was in the palm of her hands as she grasped her locket and held her flowers close. She felt her father’s love as she walked herself down the aisle toward D’Arcy, ready to marry the man of her dreams. Marvin Tevaga provided the most beautiful live music, playing the ukulele and singing “Can’t help falling in Love with You” as the ceremony began. The couple also changed things up by surprising their guests with their first dance as their grand entrance to the reception, with custom choreography to the song “Forever and Ever, Amen”.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

The couple never saw the venue before the wedding day. The element of surprise was very important to both of them. This wedding truly was an enchanted secret garden wedding, as none of the guests knew the location of the venue. Their wedding invitations read “secret venue in Maui, Hawaii.” Forty of their closest family and friends flew to Maui while having no idea where they would celebrate the couple. Angela and D’Arcy had all the guests shuttled to the venue with a personalized “welcome video” for every person. As their guests stepped out of the shuttle, they were greeted by the magic of Haiku Mill; where Old-World Europe meets natural Hawaii splendor. It was truly an unforgettable experience for their guests, and the couple had the most perfect day celebrating with their loved ones.

The Blueprint Wedding for How to Soften an Industrial Space With Blooms

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Blush, cream, mauve, green, dark purple[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]The bride really focused on softening the industrial space of The Foundry. Their florist helped them conceptualize a “meadow” that would bring the organic feeling of the foliage outside the venue, inside. She wanted a romantic, elegant vibe that featured a timeless, neutral color palette enhanced by rich textures. She sourced handmade paper invitations from Bulgaria with deckled edges, wax seals embellished with dried flowers and letterpress printing. Their day-of paper, from the same vendor, included special touches on each menu like details about their featured wine, which was from their favorite winery in Sonoma, CA. As the groom’s family is Italian, the wedding also spoke to a strong Tuscan influence, from the organic florals to the abundant charcuterie at cocktail hour. The ivy and greenery at the Foundry complimented the bride’s design, and allowed her to curate an outdoor custom experience in the heart of New York City.[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Our unique love story is really centered around the pandemic. We met two weeks before NYC shut down and, serendipitously, happened to live seven blocks away from each other. Once we realized that the pandemic wasn’t going away, we decided to essentially quarantine together: we weathered social justice protests, the pandemic and a cross-country move, all of which made us closer and gave our relationship a great foundation. Without that unplugged time, we would’ve never developed a close enough relationship for me to take the plunge and move to San Francisco. Essentially, I booked a trip to the West Coast at the end of the summer and never looked back. Joe proposed a few months later and the rest is history! [/field]

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Cezanne Floral designed petite, organic bouquets with blush and greenery tones and just a little depth with pops of dark purple. These small bouquets perfectly complimented the bride and bridesmaids stature and gowns. For the ceremony, the florist created a lot of eye catching texture the floral runners and meadow. Although the ceremony had to be moved inside due to rain, the lush florals still conveyed a warm Tuscan vibe. Meticulously placed floral centerpieces adorned the long rectangular tables in the tent for the reception following. [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]The wedding cake was designed by Nine Cakes and was a showstopper. With three epic tiers, it was the focal point of the cocktail hour. The texture was designed to mimic a Tuscan alfresco wall, and also beautifully complimented the texture of the venue space. [/field]

A Floral-Filled Vision Set on Lake Como at Villa Regina Teodolinda

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Burnt Umber, Pink, Ochre[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]A floral filled vision set the stage for this stunning, yet classic Lake Como wedding. The couple drew off the colours of the villa’s unique palette, bringing in some pinks to pop against the natural Umber and Ochre of the facade. Guests had an uninterrupted view of Lake Como as the couple said their vows in front of their nearest and dearest. [/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Frank proposed during the height of COVID so we didn’t have the option of a getaway. Initially, Frank was planning to propose in Banff since we love being by lakes (which is part of the reason we chose to get married in Lake Como!). However, with COVID, Frank instead proposed at Big Sur, which is one of our favorite getaways in California. He woke up super early to prepare a picnic basket that was in the trunk, and had asked me if I wanted to go whale watching that day at Big Sur. I initially thought it was a little odd, since it wasn’t whale watching season, but was excited to go to Big Sur nonetheless. Once we got there, he had already scoped out a perfect picnic spot where we were sitting on a cliff overlooking the California coast, popped a bottle of champagne and had all of my favorite snacks prepared. I totally blacked out during his speech (which I’m sure was extremely sweet), and when he opened the ring box to pop the question, the box was upside down![/field]

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Elegant florals formed an arch for the ceremony and adorned the tables. Decor was simple yet timeless with taper candles and clean place settings. [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]A traditional Italian cake was served as guests lit sparklers for the first cut and the champagne toast. [/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]There are two moments that stick out from the ceremony – (1) when Frank quoted Taylor Swift in his vows, and referred to her as my “favorite poet”, and (2) when our officiant started by asking us to pause and take a moment to look around at our venue, Lake Como and all our guests who flew so far to be with us in that moment. As we looked around, I think we were both filled with immense gratitude and love and felt fully present in that moment and what it meant to be getting married in front of all our loved ones.[/field]

Guests opened their envelopes to find a photo of them with the couple, marking special memories that they each shared with them. It was a beautiful moment with plenty of tears, laughs and joy. [field title=”Special Detail #3″]Our favorite moment from the wedding day is the post-ceremony boat ride. It was such a beautiful way to take a quiet moment to ourselves after the ceremony, where we could just bask in our post wedding bliss!

This Wedding’s Design Was Inspired by Its Coastal Location!

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]From the bride:
Inspired by the ocean, our color scheme was blues and accents of greens. We knew we wanted to highlight blues given the Bel Air Bay Club ocean view setting.[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]From the bride:
Our vision was an elevated beach wedding – we have both always loved the beach growing up and together as a couple, our favorite memories are ones spent together by the ocean. Also, AJ’s family is from the east coast and having a venue with an ocean view and a sunset over the water especially for those traveling, some to California for the first time, made BABC the perfect spot. While the beach is our happy place and typically casual, AJ and I love getting dressed up and we knew we wanted our wedding day to be black tie attire. We realized during the design process that pearls, both natural and elegant and from the sea, served as the perfect accent for our wedding. Our planner, Natalie Good, made our elevated beach wedding dream come true with her creativity of incorporating oyster shells with pearls for the place-cards, pearls in a glass box for the table markers, and the stunning escort board, which held seat assignments and the phrase, “the world is your oyster, it is up to you to find the pearls” – and your seat! A Good Affair did a tremendous job from start to finish in the design process – their attention to detail is unmatched and they made us feel so supported and at ease because truly everything they create is beautiful. [/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]From the bride:
AJ and I met at Boston College our freshman year and were great friends all throughout college. After graduation, we both moved to NYC where AJ realized that perhaps there was something more than just friendship possible for us. He asked me on our first date in September of 2017 and we have been together ever since – AJ is still the best friend I have ever had! AJ proposed in July of 2020 in the midst of Covid lockdowns while we were living at my dad’s house in Manhattan Beach. One night, AJ and I took a walk on The Strand, the Manhattan Beach boardwalk along the ocean, to my old childhood home and AJ asked me to marry him in the garden. [/field]

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]From the bride:
To begin the search, I visited NWLA Bridal shop in Santa Monica with my mom and dad and the owner, Nadia Williams, had a feeling that the Verona gown by Mira Zwillinger was going to be the perfect dress for me – it was the first wedding dress I ever tried on. I loved the handmaid lace flowers, intricate details, and delicate fabric, but never thought I was going to pick the first dress I tried on. After going to 7 other shops and trying on 70+ dresses, I found myself looking back at my pictures in the Mira gown. If I was going to continue to think about this dress, I knew that this must be the one! I am still so happy about my choice and have to thank Nadia – she is so genuine and made the experience the best place we visited- she has a gift, she knew right away![/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]From the bride:
The bridesmaids wore Jenny Yoo chiffon dresses and each wore a unique style. The blue dress color served as an accent color throughout the entire wedding, with the same color ribbon for the bride’s and bridesmaid’s bouquets, ribbon on the church programs, and the bow on the invitation. I gifted them pearl bracelets to wear to express my gratitude and as a keepsake to remember the day. [/field]

Passed hors d’oeuvres of beef wellingtons, avocado and crab toast points, potato and caviar, and the groom also insisted we have his favorite, pigs in a blanket, which were a crowd favorite! A choice of filet mignon or miso-soy sea bass for the main – all so delicious![/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]From the bride:
Blush pinks and whites with roses, dahlias, accents of blue delphiniums. We had a combination of long tables and rounds with varying types of sized arrangements – the long tables with assorted lows and rounds with larger arrangements. We also had a variety of different tablecloths – ranging from blue and white suede to a pattern that pulled in all the blues and greens. One of our favorite floral displays was a breathtaking fountain with beautiful roses that was a total showstopper. [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]From the bride:
The cake was one of my favorite details – lace intricate flower details identical to my dress adorned the three tiers – it was stunning! The inside was Neapolitan flavor, white cake with fresh strawberry buttercream and chocolate buttercream. [/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]From the bride:
We had a traditional church wedding at St. Monica’s, but it was important for us to have the music be modern and meaningful to us. Our bridal party walked down the aisle to “In My Life” by the Beatles and I walked down the aisle with my dad to “This Guy’s in Love with You” by Burt Bacharach – both played by the organ and instrumental. “This Guy’s in Love with You” was the perfect reminder for me as I walked down the aisle that I was marrying the man I love who was waiting for me! In addition to us both growing up Catholic, Boston College, where we met, is a Catholic Jesuit school. “Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything,” was a phrase from a Jesuit prayer that we incorporated into the mass. We also had “Hallelujah” played in the Jeff Buckley version and we walked out to “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love).” Our mass was 45 minutes – it can be done! We wanted the sacred, special, sentimental ceremony AND the great party. Our first dance was to “Someone Like You” by Van Morrison. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]From the bride:
With 180 people attending the wedding, I knew I wanted to have a special moment with each person who made the effort to be there, but it was going to be hard. To ensure I did, I wrote a handwritten note to each guest that was on their seat waiting for them when they got to their table. I also wanted to incorporate my love of oil painting, so the front of the note had a picture I painted standing in Palisades Park looking at Bel Air Bay Club in the distance. AJ and I spend a lot of time in this park both walking and enjoying the sunset and it has a special meaning for us still to this day. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]From the bride:
Our cocktail hour was magical – on the green lawn overlooking the ocean. We didn’t want it to end! We kicked it off by the two of us pouring a champagne tower for all to gather and toasting with both sets of our parents – one of our favorite moments of the day. We had a piano and saxophone duo for music – AJ played the saxophone growing up and we thought that would be a fun and meaningful touch. To kick off the reception, we had a short dance set before we sat down for dinner and toasts to “get this party started”- we loved our band and this gave a great preview of the best night of dancing of our life![/field]

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

In May of 2021, after a year of being quarantined, Brianna and Alex decided to take a vacation together to Napa Valley, California. They knew it was a place that they love since they visited it before. They were guaranteed a great time given everything that had happened during the pandemic. They had created a jam-packed itinerary to hit all their favorite wineries and restaurants. On the third day, they went to one of their favorite wineries, Castello di Amorosa. When they arrived, there was no one there except the staff. They were greeted by a tour guide, who told them that due to Covid, they are restricting the number of people allowed on the premises. They toured the basement of the castle, sampling wine straight from the barrels and learning all about the history of the winery and the tour guide kept emphasizing the one-on-one experience they got because of Covid restrictions, which is why Brianna had no idea what was to come! They arrived to visit the highest tower. They went upstairs and as they reached the top, there were rose petals everywhere. Alex led Brianna to a table where there were beautiful flowers overlooking an amazing view of the vineyard. This is when he got down on one knee, proposed and she said “I DO”!

[field title=”Wedding Colors”]A mix of warm and cool tones of peach and buttercup with lilac and dusty blue. [/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]Leah’s initial vision was centered around whimsical and colorful butterfly chargers combined with colorful florals for an overall English garden aesthetic. Their chuppah was adorned with gorgeous colorful flowers and both of Leah and Drew’s Rabbi’s married them together, making the ceremony deeply personal and special. The overall aesthetic was a mix of color and eclectic decor with a touch of romance and whimsy. Leah’s vision was executed perfectly and it was a dream day in every way![/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Drew took Leah to the Ritz at Lake Oconee outside of Atlanta as a get away for her birthday. Before dinner on the second night, he told her they were being taken on a tour of the property. As they walked to a golf cart for their “tour”, she quickly realized there was something going on when their tour guide wasn’t telling them anything about the property. Next thing she knows, they were stopping at a bridge covered in rose petals, where Drew walked her to the top of the bridge, got down on one knee and said he all of a sudden couldn’t remember what he wanted to say, but he loves her and wants to spend the rest of his life with her! And the rest is history.[/field]

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]When Leah started researching wedding dresses online, she immediately knew she wanted to incorporate a unique floral element with texture in her dress. She didn’t know if that was in the fabric or in appliqué, but she knew she wanted it to be a spin on a classic to coordinate with their country club venue. When she started to try on dresses, she was immediately drawn to an A-line silhouette with traditional silk fabric. She tried on dresses from Lela Rose, Markarian, and Oscar De La Renta, where she ultimately found elements of each that she loved, but nothing was the one. She had heard great things about Britt Wood at BW Designs Inc. making beautiful custom gowns, so when she couldn’t find her dress, they had a design meeting together. They immediately clicked, and Britt understood her vision of loving a vintage elegant feel, classic A-line cut, with floral appliqué. Britt ultimately sourced vintage silk ribbon flowers and they decided on a scalloped open back for added drama.[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]Leah’s bridesmaids wore all different shades of blue floral dresses. She wanted it to feel organic and mismatched, so to give them guidance she put together a presentation of dresses she loved to give guidance in having blue as the base, but to incorporate a multitude of colors in the floral patterns. She ended up curating most of the dresses each bridesmaid selected, which ended up being one of Leah’s favorite parts of the planning process! [/field]

[section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Food & Drink”]The reception started with a cocktail hour, where guests were greeted with the bride and groom’s favorite cocktail, an espresso martini. Westwood Country Club served all of Leah and Drew’s favorite apps – sushi, pigs in a blanket, shrimp cocktail, and mini lobster rolls. During cocktail hour the string musicians played modern music, similar to what you hear in the Bridgerton soundtrack. After cocktail hour, guests made their way to their tented reception and enjoyed their selection of caesar salad & caprese salads to start, paired with a country club classic & fan favorite, Westwood Cheesy Bagels. For entrees, guests had a selection of sea bass or beef tenderloin and a marble cake with chocolate frosting for dessert. After dinner the guests went into a separate dancing tent where the band, Fat Pocket, played upbeat music mixing oldies with modern music. They had a shot bar accompanied with a shotski to keep the energy and drinks flowing. Leah and Drew wanted their reception to be a lively party with a lot of dancing, and their guests did not dissapoint![/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]English garden party with fluttering butterflies all around! Florals included dahlias, sweet peas, garden roses, hydrangeas, stock, chamomile, and more! [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]Sarah’s Cake Shop created a delicious marble cake with chocolate frosting, designed with delicate florals all around as a nod to Leah’s love for the gardens.
[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]While Leah and Drew had a guest list of over 200 people, they wanted the ceremony to feel as intimate as possible. It started with just family walking down the aisle, with Leah’s niece and nephew as their flower girl and boy. The ceremony incorporated both Leah and Drew’s childhood Rabbi’s, which made it extremely personal and unique to them. They felt extreme love from everyone in attendance! Prior to the ceremony they had a small ketubah ceremony with their parents and their two close friends who were their witnesses. It was an amazing moment where Leah and Drew were able to read words they selected of their commitment to each other in an intimate setting.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Leah has always had an extreme love of flowers. She knew she wanted to incorporate flowers as much as we could, with additional garden details such as butterflies, scattered throughout. Knapp Design Co. custom created a gorgeous seating display with butterflies and flora fluttering about, for guests to find their seats. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]”It is so hard to pick a favorite moment! We truly had the best night of our lives. If we had to pin it down it was probably the Hora or getting on stage to dance with the band and my family.”[/field]

This Couple’s Romantic Garden Wedding Is Full Of Pretty Pink Blooms

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

The bride and groom wanted a bold yet whimsical statement with their florals as a main focus of their wedding day. Green Lion Design incorporated an incredible floral arch of orange, pink, red, yellow, and purple flowers mixed with greenery which was the statement piece of the day and the perfect fit in the intimate stone courtyard where their ceremony took place.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Libby and Dillon are big nature lovers which made Willowdale Estate an ideal location for them to exchange vows. Nestled in the rural woods of Massachusetts is this charming, stone, building with old-world charm. They wanted this to remain a central design element throughout their wedding day.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Libby and Dillon first met in the library at Washington University in St. Louis in 2013 when Libby was a sophomore and Dillon was a junior. Libby went up to Dillon and introduced herself, and thankfully Dillon was smart enough to ask Libby to lunch. Thus, their friendship began in college, but it was not until they were actually living in separate cities that they finally began dating. Both realizing how special the other person was and that distance could not keep them apart, Dillon and Libby began flying back and forth between Chicago and New York while Dillon was in medical school and Libby was a researcher. They quickly made up for lost time since college, whether it was skiing in Colorado, traveling to Singapore for a wedding, or Dillon living in New York for four months while he was interviewing for anesthesiology residencies and Libby was applying to medical schools to ultimately become a head and neck surgeon; they quickly knew that they could not live without each other. In 2018, Libby and Dillon moved to Boston together as she started medical school and he started residency. Through the challenges of work and school, the excitement of exploring Boston and going on trips around the world, supporting each other during the pandemic, and finding enjoyment in the little things in life such as cooking and petting strangers’ dogs in the nearby dog park, Libby and Dillon continued to fall deeply in love. On June 20, 2020, Dillon and Libby went down to the dock at Dillon’s lake house in Maine to go fishing, and to Libby’s surprise, Dillon pulled out the ring that he had hidden in his fishing tackle box. As lovers of nature, Libby and Dillon wanted to have an outdoor wedding. They found the perfect venue in Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, MA with its beautiful courtyard and elegant tent. Dillon quickly began the process of finding the perfect band, which was a challenge during the pandemic without an opportunity to see live showcases. Fortunately, The Connection sounded even better on the wedding day than they did on their website. Meanwhile, Libby began the process of planning every other aspect of the wedding. Fast forward to May 29, 2022; Dillon was tearfully trying to get through his vows to Libby under the incredible flower Chuppah designed by Green Lion Design. After saying, “I do” and indulging in some incredible hors d’oeuvres, they began their first dance in front of all of their friends and family. Despite hours of rehearsing this dance, they almost immediately lost track of the choreography with all the excitement, but thankfully no one could tell that they were improvising as Dillon swung Libby around in circles. In the end, it was the perfect night. Dillon and Libby could not have imagined this start to their married lives when they first met in the library all those years ago.

A gorgeous Anne Barge gown with applique’s throughout the fabric was a stunning fit on Libby. It accentuated her tiny waist while giving volume at the bottom. In the sun, it caught the light in such a way that she looked as though she was glowing and the veil brought the entire look together. It incorporated the same applique design and truly brought out Libby’s joy from the moment she put it on. Her gown showed her true beauty and she looked as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside.

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]Each bridesmaid chose their own black gown that made them feel their best. Libby’s focus on color was kept in her florals and the design of her wedding day and the classic black on her maids was a wonderful balance.[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]

Dillon, our groom, wore a custom tuxedo from Classic Tuxedo in Boston. His perfectly tailored look made all the difference. The cut of his classic black suit paired with a bowtie brought out the formality of the day and was an ideal match for Libby’s embellished gown.

For passed appetizers guests were served chicken satay, Korean BBQ beef lettuce wrap, mushroom spring roll, sesame cauliflower bites, and zucchini fritters. Dinner was started with a farm green salad with a butternut squash soup shooter followed by the main course of cod, braised beef short rib and a vegan mushroom risotto. For dessert, Libby and Dillon wanted something fun and provided cookies by Willowdale Estate (the venue) and cupcakes from Georgetown cupcakes.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Florals were the main detail and focus in Libby and Dillon’s wedding day design. Immediately upon kickoff of their wedding day, the floral arch captured their guest’s attention as the central design element of their ceremony. The rich, bold tones were impeccably designed by Green Lion Design and truly were a work of art. Thinking a bit outside the box and making a color statement is something Green Lion Design did in perfect taste and it was a breath of fresh air. Reception florals added height and kept with a natural elegance and classic feel while bringing the outside into the tent.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

In lieu of a wedding cake, the bride and groom opted for Georgetown Cupcakes for their guests and shared an adorable “cupcake cut” privately with one another. They also had their favorite cookies mixed provided by the venue into the dessert spread for a fun snack to grab and bring to the dance floor.

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

Throughout the wedding entrance and in the venue pictures of Libby and Dillon’s story throughout med school and their relationship were on display. It was so clear to everyone present how much they loved one another and how perfect of a fit they are. Seeing images of them in scrubs, hiking, and their engagement session, showcased all aspects of their life on their big day.

Wyoming Romance in the Fields at Brush Creek Ranch

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]With Robin from sunny Southern California and Marco from the Dominican Republic, their sun-kissed color palette of peachy apricots, dusty blues, golden coast yellows, rose gold flecks, and linen ivories was the perfect way to marry the darling duo, bringing their coastal charm to the wild west in Wyoming! [/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]When Robin + Marco came to us just six weeks before their wedding during one of the busiest seasons of all time, we were certainly up for the challenge and got right to designing and bringing their vision to life in a very special way! Robin + Marco’s vision was a romantic candlelit dinner in the fields with chandeliers floating above, light jazz music filling the air, and a decadent five course meal curated by Magee Homestead. They say weddings take a village and we’re so grateful we had the opportunity to collaborate with our creative partners to make their dreams come true in six week’s time!

Modern romance and timeless elegance took to the wide open spaces and western serenity of Wyoming as Robin + Marco said I do underneath gorgeous cottonwood trees lining the bustling creek, the perfect setting for their ceremony with their loved ones in smiling company. The ceremony aisle was adorned with layered vintage Turkish rugs as a nod to the western inspired decor at Magee Homestead with florals growing from the ground up, leading the bride and groom to the circular arch where they shared their vows and said yes to forever!

Guests made their way to cocktail hour and were greeted by two horses hanging out by the lounge, where they enjoyed decadent canapés and cocktails overlooking the stunning views at Magee. Soon thereafter, guests followed the lighthearted jazz music to the dinner reception in the field, and found their seats at the warm wood table dressed with delicate runners, wishbone chairs, and gold-toned chandeliers lighting the space. The tabletop decor intertwined timeless romance with a touch of contemporary effortlessly as the cloud blue colored candles, linen napkins, ivory lace plates, and gold rimmed glassware complimented the modern silhouettes of the rose gold flatware, circular menus, gold compotes, and pendants. It was sheer joy witnessing Robin + Marco and their loved ones laugh, smile, and cry happy tears as their families joined together for the first time. After their impeccable five course dinner underneath the stars, everyone enjoyed a night of dancing underneath the moonlight with samba music filling the air and Heather showing off her best kept secret as quite the samba and salsa extraordinaire! It was a true honor to welcome Robin + Marco to the Calluna family as their hearts touched ours in so many ways. Their wedding weekend is truly one that we will cherish forever![/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Robin shared how they met and their proposal story, “We met in 2005 when Marco came to an open house I was holding as a Realtor in Los Angeles. Following that, we had our first date. It was a disaster. I drank too much, shed a ton of drunk tears and I was sure he would never call me again. It became a joke with my friends on how to ensure a guy will never call you again. It was an epic fail. The worst date I have ever had, hands down. But, 2 days later he called. After this we dated for a year; spending weeks at his John Lautner house above Sunset Blvd (which I fangirled about). Yet, it just wasn’t good timing. We broke up in late 2016, both moved on to long term relationships with other people until Covid hit in 2020. At that time we reconnected via text after I saw in a Los Angeles Times article chronicling the sale of his Lautner house, the Wolff House to Amanda Hearst. I was sure he wouldn’t respond to the text, but he did! We began to speak every day via Facetime until the early part of 2021. Though both now single when we reconnected, we were both weary to give it another try (he more so than I) and just became confidants and best of friends until one day we gave it another go. This time our relationship was better and stronger. We knew each other deeply and it felt like a new experience instead of rekindling the old. We refer to it as a second chance. And fate.

We spent mid 2021 to June 2022 week on and week off with each other. Marco was then living in Montecito and I in Santa Monica with 2 teenage girls in school and 2 cats he was allergic to. Though he came more often to my house because of my kids, he lived out of a bag and a drawer avoiding sitting on any furniture because of my cats. He really put in the work.

In June 2022, my daughter and I moved to Montecito with him, and we got engaged in our most favorite place. The Post Ranch INN, in Big Sur that we had spent many visits together throughout the years. Overlooking the ocean on the balcony of our suite on the clearest most beautiful day. When he asked I jumped into his arms while he was on one knee and the ring nearly dropped over the balcony railing onto the cliffside of the rocky sea.

We have moved very quickly from that point on. Planning a wedding in 2 months. We decided we didn’t want to waste any more time.”[/field]

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]Robin fell in love with a Gali Karten Dress from a previous year collection and shockingly found it on the Still White website and bought it second-hand. Never seeing another being sold second hand and oddly being her exact size. It had never been altered and fit like a glove. Seeing as there just was not enough time to order and fit a new gown it was a miracle! [/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]The bride and groom opted for mix matched bridesmaids dress in blush tones bought at David’s Bridal and Lulu’s online. Each dress was picked out by the bridesmaids themselves, Robin’s sister and daughter.[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]Marco wore a Ralph Lauren white suit fitted by his favorite tailor from the Ralph Lauren Los Angeles Flagship store. The groomsmen were in taupe with custom made suits with blue suede shoes. [/field]

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]We brought all the modern romance to Wyoming with florals all shades of peach and cream by Poppy’s and the decor was a mix of classic and contemporary elements, weaving in some hints of blue with the linen napkins paired with rose gold flatware, linen lace dinnerware, and gold rimmed glassware.
[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]They wanted something simple and chic and as the bride is gluten free, that was a must! They enjoyed a delicious gluten free butter cream vanilla cake made by the pastry chef at Brush Creek Ranch. [/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]Marco wanted as many 80’s references as possible with the song “True” by Spandau Ballet (from the movie Sixteen Candles) during or procession and “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears (as seen in the movie “Real Genius”) during the recessional and “Take My Breath Away” by Berlin as our first dance. It was unique to us.

During our al fresco dinner the Jazz Quartet was a must. Marco spent many years loving smoky jazz clubs in New York and wanted that classy cool vibe.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Robin’s cousin Danny walked her down the aisle being the last man in her Dad’s succession. He wore her father’s suit, keeping a healing stone in the pocket that was held by her Dad just before he succumbed to a long battle with cancer nine years prior. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]Our al fresco dinner under the stars. It was the most beautiful mellow night. Romantic and intimate. [/field]

An Ethereal Wedding Weekend at Banyan Tree Mayakoba

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]To create a cohesive aesthetic, we chose an all-white palette for the ceremony, which allowed the natural beauty of the location to take center stage. As the evening progressed, we introduced blush-toned neutrals to the décor, creating a more romantic palette. This subtle transition added depth and continuity to our design, resulting in a harmonious color scheme that complemented the surroundings and enhanced the beauty of our special day.
[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Inspired by the natural beauty and stunning colors of the location, we created a dreamy and ethereal atmosphere. A spiraled sculpture of white florals served as our centerpiece against the aisle’s oceanic backdrop. We paid careful attention to every detail, even opting for translucent chairs to blend seamlessly with the surroundings and ensure unobstructed views of the altar. As the ceremony came to a close, the soothing sounds of a live guitar player beckoned guests to the boat dock, where they boarded boats in groups of 8-10 for a picturesque cruise to the cocktail hour. Guests marveled at the breathtaking scenery of the Banyan Tree Mayakoba as they arrived at the serene outdoor patio. Refreshing welcome cocktails set the tone for a wonderful evening ahead. After 45 minutes of mingling, the curtains opened to reveal the dining space, a lofty palapa adorned with an exquisite floral display in blush, nude, green, and white hues. Above the bride and groom’s table, an open installation of hanging florals served as a stunning focal point and was mirrored over the band as well, creating a harmonious ambiance throughout the space. The tabletops were equally striking, featuring beautifully arranged floral centerpieces of varying heights in the same delicate color palette. Every detail came together seamlessly to create an unforgettable atmosphere. As the evening progressed, guests continued to revel under the romantically lit palapa. The band kept them moving and grooving as they danced the night away, savoring every moment of the magical celebration. As the festivities drew to a close, guests were invited to take part in a special send-off tradition. Sparklers were passed around, creating a dazzling display of light that illuminated the faces of everyone present. The couple departed on a private boat, enjoying an intimate moment of tranquility and reflection as they sailed away from their wedding. The twinkling sparklers in the night sky provided a beautiful send-off and left everyone with a lasting memory of the enchanting celebration.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]Scott proposed to Jacquie at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, FL.
The couple had met on a golf course so the proposal was destined to be on one as well.
They were on the 17th hole, which had a stunning waterfall backdrop, and both hit their tee shots. Jacquie hit a perfect shot, landing her ball just 3 feet away from the pin. Scott, on the other hand, was so nervous that he barely made it onto the green! Scott proceeded to lead Jacquie up to her ball and she was so confused as to why he was walking to the green. Scott then bent down and marked her ball with the ring and got down on one knee. They burst into tears and embraced in the beautiful moment. But of course, Jacquie still needed to make her putt! After the engagement, she still proceeded to finish the hole. She said yes and made a birdie! They were greeted by friends at the top of the waterfall with champagne and the celebrations began.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]As guests were ferried to cocktail hour, they enjoyed a special surprise – a flute of chilled champagne accompanied by a paper cone filled with popcorn, a request personally made by the bride. This thoughtful touch allowed guests to indulge in a delicious snack while taking in the stunning views of Mayakoba and highlighted the bride’s attention to detail and care for her guests.

Upon arriving at the cocktail hour, guests were immediately welcomed with a delicious specialty passionfruit cocktail. The carefully curated menu featured a mouthwatering variety of passed hors d’oeuvres, each one more delicious than the last, as well as a lavish raw bar and carving station. For dinner, guests were treated to a refreshing tropical salad, followed by a choice of fresh fish or beef.

And of course, no celebration would be complete without dessert! Guests were wowed by the live construction of a traditional Italian wedding cake, featuring layer upon layer of moist vanilla cake, whipped cream, and fresh berries. Later in the evening, guests indulged in an abundant dessert station on the outdoor deck, featuring an irresistible assortment of sweet treats. And for those who craved something cold and creamy, a fresh gelato cart offered a refreshing end to the perfect evening.
[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]The bride’s vision was to create an enchanting contrast between the lush tropical environment and the blooming garden-style florals. Our design team artfully combined natural elements, such as rattan, raw silk, and fringed placemats, with loose, organic blooms to achieve the desired effect.

The two previous evenings of the 3-day wedding weekend were lively beach-themed celebrations, featuring bright pops of colors, unique photo opportunities, and even custom coconuts adorned with the couple’s initials.
[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]As part of the bride’s desire to keep an Italian tradition alive, the wedding cake was created in real-time during the reception. A skilled pastry chef meticulously assembled several layers of moist vanilla cake, luscious whipped cream, and fresh berries to create a visually stunning (and delicious!) masterpiece. Adding to the festive ambiance, a selection of classic Italian tunes played in the background, culminating in a lively and energetic remix of the tarantella.[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

After the officiant took his place at the altar, the unmistakable opening notes of Dr. Dre’s iconic “Still D.R.E.” filled the air, played elegantly by a skilled string trio. The groom confidently strolled down the aisle, his sleek tuxedo perfectly complemented by the upbeat melody of the song. The unexpected music choice added a touch of modernity to the traditional ceremony and reflected the couple’s unique personality and style. The two maids of honor and the best man walked down the aisle to Beethoven’s 5 Secrets by the Piano Guys. The strings swelled, and it was time for the bride to make her grand entrance with her father… There was not a dry eye in the house!

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Jacquie and Scott welcomed guests with a fiesta party the first night, and a golf tournament – “The Last Swing Before The Ring” – the following day. The couple loves to golf and wanted to experience the resort’s famous course, El Camaléon, with their guests before the big day. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]Jacquie and Scott celebrated their rehearsal dinner at The Shack Beach Club at sunset. Our bride and groom and their guests sipped fun cocktails and enjoyed the local cuisine. Fire dancers and glow-in-the-dark water drummers kept everyone dancing.[/field]

Guests left voice messages on a rotary phone instead of a guest book, which the bride and groom listened to after the celebration – and still have to this day!

A Fashionable French Affair That Makes All Of Our Destination Wedding Dreams Come True

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

Couple wanted bit of pop of purple dress for the outdoor shoot with flower blossom and the view of Eiffel Tower. For the rest of the day from Jardin des Tuileries, Louvre museum to the Hotel Alfred Sommier, couple wanted to have warm tone overall to blend with rest of scenery.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The couple wanted to have a cozy wedding where each other’s families could talk and relax. And we wanted to make a wedding where we would be grateful to our parents who raised us, not ourselves. Due to the corona virus, my family in Japan could not come except my mother, but the number of new families increased and it was a very happy ceremony. For the venue, I searched for a chic place with French decorations (atmosphere like a castle).

The couple picked family owned venue / hotel, Hotel Alfred Sommier, that would offer family style mansion that has elegant, calm and discrete environment. Located in the mansion’s large dining room and canopy, it can be connected to the Salon doré with its beautiful Louis XV decorations. It opens on to the private garden and can also be extended into the garden if the weather permits. The cane medallion chairs and Alfred Sommier’s monogram on the Gien tableware convey the feeling of attending a family dinner.

Luxurious Fall Wedding in the Hills of Chianti at Castello Di Meleto

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Wild & Romantic Fall Colors – Wine reds, burnt orange, ombre yellows framed with organic fruits as supporting palette (Plum, grapes, pomegranates)[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]The way we have always described the long-awaited celebration to guests would be a Tuscan affair where we would wine and dine to the best Chianti had to offer against the backdrop of the castle vineyard with the evening spread out against the sky – and with our hearts full, dance away the night under the Tuscan stars to the bride’s favorite vintage French jazz band.

For the ceremony, the highlight is the arrival of the bride and father of bride driving up the hill in a vintage white car in a long cypress lined road, tooting their horn to the fanfare of the guests’ fanfare and cheers. Against the backdrop of two French vintage jazz singers and the band crooning La vie en rose and an Italian garden setting on the hill overlooking the castle and vineyard, the bride walked down the aisle with clouds of white florals framing the scene. The design was stylish and organic to complement the lush Italian fauna, with two aged trees framing the view of the castle as the couple exchanged their vows. A special moment would be guests participating in the warming of the rings, where they passed the wedding bands around to imbue their well wishes and love into them before the rings are exchanged against the Le Moulins de mon Coeur song. As the couple were declared husband and wife, the bride throws her bridal bouquet back to the wedding party before getting into the vintage car, driving into the sunset against Ella Fitzgerald’s From this moment on.

As guests stroll down the cypress lined road to the herb garden overlooking the vineyard hills, the reception is the beginning of savory indulgences – with the appetizers made fresh on the scene – including live carving of prosciutto, stations of Italian hams, cheese and passed around carpaccios. Each food station was designed with vintage décor (Record players) and organic elements such as herb plants with waiters dressed in crisp black and white suits. Guests sip on their herb-infused cocktails against bossa nova and jazz acoustic pieces by the band.

For the dinner reception, the bride had decided on a less traditional design with a red and white antique patterned table cloth with white framed plates and mother-of-pearl cutlery, which accentuated the fruits and wild fall floral pieces on the tables, specially designed by Fluida Designs, a floral and landscape artist. There were a few special design choices the couple made: A special design element was the seating chart were green leaf-shaped cards that were hand calligraphed and placed on individual fruits that reflected the region and season. Guests also received a burgundy colored luggage tag as gifts that stated ‘And so the adventure begins’, hung on their chairs to bring home with. The bride chose to have a canopy of fairy lights to add an additional magic flair to the terrace lawn by the castle – to truly capsulate ‘Dining under the Tuscan stars’. The couple opted to have the Milliefoglie, a traditional Italian wedding cake made of crispy layers of pastry, fresh strawberries, raspberries and cream, made live in front of the guests which provided a very memorable moment. Guest have gushed that this was the best wedding cake they have eaten. The groom also specially requested to have a gelato cart where fresh Italian gelato would be served to guests for dessert. And as promised, after the couple twirled to their first dance, guests danced away the night to the bride’s favorite vintage french jazz band (Gatsby Follies by Jazz around midnight, who flew over from Paris and was decked out in full flapper dresses and suits). A unexpected surprise of the night was the after party DJ who guests have expressed as one of the best wedding DJs they have been treated to.

For the day after fancy pajama farewell party, the location was in a secluded garden area where guests were treated to a bohemian chic themed set up – filled with balloons, velvet sofas and lounge chairs, carpets and cushions. Guests were asked to dress up in their fanciest and most colorful pajamas – silk, feathers, pearls, etc. They milled around to the castle’s self-produced wine, live Italian barbecue against the backdrop of the playlist custom curated by the best man. Guests wrote their well wishes for the couple on the balloons, and before the end of the night, the couple released them to the night.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]Kim and Yao met in international orientation and started dating in the freshmen year of college (They were college sweethearts). They have bonded over their love for food and travel – and have been meticulously checking off their bucket list food and travel destinations around the globe each year. Yao surprised Kim with a proposal in Tokyo in November 2018. It was unexpected for Kim as she has always insisted that the proposal, whenever that happens, must be private with no audience (she’s easily embarrassed clearly). Given the trip was planned to the detail by her and they were traveling with another friend, she thought there would not be a chance it would happen then.

The aforementioned friend had made an excuse that night when they got into Tokyo from Kyoto that he had to meet with his colleague in Tokyo for drinks – and would join them later. Yao brought Kim to a hotel bar they loved in Tokyo – at the Andaz Tokyo on Toranomon Hills that had the perfect 360 view of Tokyo night lights. Kim and Yao had stayed there a couple of times when they have visited Tokyo before. As they ordered drinks, Yao disappeared strangely for a long time on the excuse of going to the bathroom, before the hotel manager approached Kim and handed her a room key. She thought he mistook her for someone else and tried to deny vehemently to a flustered manager that she was not a guest there.

The flustered manager eventually blurted out her name and told her to follow her. At that point, Kim thought something was suspicious as he brought her to the door of a room and ran away, leaving an amused Kim standing outside. As she knocked, Yao opened the door and swept her inside to the words of ‘Would you marry me?’ in perfectly cut out letters on the bed – and photos of their travels over the years hung around the room along with champagne and flowers. Yao shared that this was the exact room they stayed in when they first visited Tokyo together – overlooking the Tokyo tower. And with the Tokyo tower lights glistening behind, Yao dropped on one knee, brandishing a ring. Frankly, at that point, Kim had blanked out and did not remember a single word of Yao’s speech (he swears it was a beautiful speech and he did not make her sign away her life savings). After she said yes, they had a champagne toast – and went back to to the rooftop bar to find their friend (who was in on it the whole time and helping decorate the room) to celebrate.

There were many hilarious moments that proved Kim was completely oblivious – Yao had carried his backpack the whole time on the trip (with the ring in it) which was extremely uncharacteristic. Kim had suggested taking a later train to Tokyo from Kyoto, which both Yao and friend had vehemently objected to. Kim had texted Yao while she was waiting in the bar when he disappeared, to which he texted back a poop emoji to keep her from suspecting anything. Their friend was hiding on the floor of the hotel room right around the corner to ensure Kim did not run into him when being brought to the room. Luckily, in the midst of laughs and fun, she said Yes and the rest is history.

A Modern Chic Tropical Destination Wedding In Jamaica

The enchantment of a tropical paradise meets the sophistication of modern chic design at this destination Jamaica wedding. Set against the breathtaking island backdrop, this celebration is the perfect mix of style and fun all artfully planned by CM Events and Design. A captivating color palette of white and vibrant green, elegantly complemented by touches of black accents, makes every detail exude timeless beauty. From the exquisite photography by Hana Gonzalez Photography to the awe-inspiring floral arrangements designed by springvale floral, prepare to be captivated by the harmonious fusion of natural splendor and contemporary style. You won’t want to miss a single second of this love story inside the full gallery.

We had a resort chic gathering at the Tryall Club for all wedding guests who were in town to welcome them to Jamaica! Branded coconuts sparked the initial inspiration behind the entire vibe of the party. It was important for me to incorporate Jamaican elements to display our heritage and culture. This could be seen in the items we chose for our welcome bags, games, and entertainment. For our bags, we picked some of our favorite Jamaican snacks and beverages- savory – banana chips, sweet- tamarind balls and a Jamaica staple – ginger beer. We also incorporated some of the games we grew up watching our family play- dominos and ludi. We customized the ludi board game to make “home base” for each player a location that was sentimental to us- Michigan- where we met, NY- where we got engaged, Jamaica- where we will be getting married, and Bali where we will honeymoon. The dominos were also customized of course! Lastly, we loved the idea of a steel band but didn’t want to have one on our wedding day so we thought it was perfect to have a steel band perform for the welcome. We asked guests to come in their best resort chic earth tones attire for a nice aesthetic touch. Each guest was greeted with welcome cocktails and amazing views.

For the wedding, we wanted a blend of tropical elegant modern design, high style, and relaxed luxury. I never imagined having one color dominate my entire wedding day. I loved the colors in nature on the island so we selected greens, whites, and natural materials as our base design details. I’m a true island girl so the theme was a given. We went with white florals with tropical touches of palms and local flowers like white ginger and white anthuriums. We loved how all the details aligned with our vision, especially the overall florals, parasols, fans, bar sign, and seating chart. The seating chart was a super proud moment. It was a combination of my planner Candice’s idea and my crafty side that brought it to fruition. It said “If you can take the heat, find your seat”. This also became another ode to Jamaican culture given the spicy jerk seasoning as jerk chicken is an extremely popular dish in Jamaica.

Other Jamaican elements we incorporated were Jamaican fruits like June plums and breadfruit that were on display around the bar and Jamaican inspired cocktails. We also served authentic Jamaican dishes in an elevated way. The DJ played dancehall and all the favorite songs our friends and family from the Caribbean love. My wedding dress happened to be the first dress I tried on at the second bridal shop I went to. I immediately fell in love with it. When they put the veil on it was a done deal. I noticed when looking at dresses online I was drawn to dresses with floral elements. The 3D flowers in my dress and matching veil completely sold me. I loved it so much I had them make our cake to match! Jordan wanted a modern but timeless look so he decided on a double breasted ivory suit jacket. To honor his childhood friend, Pepe, who passed away from sickle cell disease, It was important to him to wear Pepe’s wishbone pin. His groomsmen and childhood friends having been passing it down for each special occasion and it was now Jordan’s turn to wear it proudly.

Lush Garden Wedding at Hycroft Manor in Vancouver

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]The couple’s love for Hycroft Manor was evident from the start. [field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]The garden-style lush floral arrangement was dreamy, fresh, and elegant, just like the lovely bride, Grace. It also tied in well with her wedding dress. The first dance in front of all their loved ones before the dinner reception was a beautiful moment that brought tears to everyone’s eyes. [/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Proposal story from the Bride: On 12.25 Christmas, 2019, it was supposed to be our friend’s birthday celebration. I thought the plan was to surprise the friend but it turned out to be a coverup story for Gene’s proposal to me. Gene played piano “Innocent – Castle in the sky” which is one of my favourite. There were “25 things I love about you” slide show with our most previous memories, his speech, flowers, champagne, cake and our best friends who helped to make this happen. I never felt so happy but crying so hard at the same time XD
I learned afterwards that the nights he said he had to stay late for work, the game nights with his friends, were actually spent preparing for the slide show and practicing piano (like, practicing hard since he hasn’t played in many many years XD)[/field]

An Airy End Of Summer Wedding In Tuscany

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

The palette was the following: pale pink, burgundy, grey, green, and purple.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

From the bride and the groom: Some of our favorite memories are sitting around the dinner table with friends and family, and sharing stories over food and wine. We wanted to extend that experience into our wedding night by having all of the dinner tables connected with local wine grown from the vineyards of our Venue and delicious Italian food. We wanted a venue where our closest friends and family could stay on site with us, and we could spend the entire weekend surrounded by love. Waking up and meeting everyone for a warm breakfast or optional yoga made the entire weekend feel so relaxing and peaceful. Daniela and team helped us take our vision and bring it to life. They worked with the florists and light designers to enhance the natural beauty of the Venue’s grounds and ensured that all of our guests felt welcomed and comfortable throughout the three-day event.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

From the bride and the groom: Chris and I met while living in New York City. One weekend while I was visiting my mom, she asked if she could introduce me to her friend’s son, Chris, who lived only about ten blocks away from me in Manhattan. Once we met, we fell quickly for each other and have been together ever since. It was a few dates later when we realized we had actually grown up only a town over from each other and may have never crossed paths if our moms didn’t introduce us—the weekend that Chris was going to propose also happened to be around the time that my dad was planning on retiring from work. I suggested that we throw a surprise party for my dad, and my mom stepped in to plan it. I spent the entire day thinking I was distracting my dad to not ruin the surprise for him, and my only job was to drive him to the party with Chris. When we arrived at the restaurant, my dad disappeared, and Chris walked me over to an archway outside the restaurant. He proposed under the archway, and after I said yes, all of our family and friend immediately started running out of the restaurant, cheering. Chris had planned the entire surprise, including having some of my friends fly in to celebrate. Inside the restaurant, Chris’ mom and sister decorated each room with photos and memories of us. (We had a party for my dad a few weeks later when he retired!)

Eggplant ravioli dressed with aromatic herbs pesto sauce, sweet tomatoes, Bufala mozzarella DOP, and basil leaves were served as the first course. For those guests who didn’t eat meat, the couple decided to offer a champagne and lemon seabass fillet on a bed of vegetable filangé or zucchini and zucchini flowers savarin on an ewe’s cheese velouté served with a stuffed zucchini flower for the vegetarian guests. The main courses were served with the following side dishes: sage-flavored roasted potatoes, steamed asparagus dressed with extra virgin olive oil.
