From the sweet pre-ceremony love letters to the Groom’s tears of joy at seeing his beautiful Bride to the bridal party’s choreographed dance, Kelsey and Jerry’s wedding day is so full of love and happiness that I wouldn’t be surprised if  your heart burst with joy. Take it all in now!

From Focused Bliss ProductionsBy far, Kelsey and Jerry are one of the most fun-loving and head-over-heels in love couples that we at Focused Bliss Productions have ever had the pleasure of filming.

After dating for seven years, these two tied the knot on a warm sunny day in May at the Quail Haven Farm in San Diego, California. It was a beautifully rustic event with many pops of color in the floral decor, stationery, and even the groomsmen’s bow-ties.

The long build-up to this day welled up so many emotions and tears of joy, especially from their proud parents who could not contain these during bridal prep and the parent-dances. Kelsey and Jerry’s own intense love for one another was reflected across every moment – from the beautifully written love notes for one another to an adorable first look in which Jerry could barely contain his excitement as Kelsey snuck up behind him!

This is definitely one wedding film not to miss, but make sure to bring a box of Kleenex (or two) before clicking play!

From The Bride…Jerry and I have been together for a long time so I had almost too much time to figure out how our wedding was going to look. The main thing that we kept coming back to was how can we make this a fun experience for our guests too. We really wanted to create a once in a lifetime experience where everyone felt welcome and had fun. That is why we allocated a lot of our time to personalizing our stationery, mason jars, napkins, and wedding favors. We wanted refined comfort food that didn’t scream traditional wedding food. Curiocity Catering came through and did an all around fantastic job. Who doesn’t want tacos, mini burgers, and parmesan truffle fries after a successful happy hour?

We are a young couple that don’t really take ourselves too seriously so we wanted a wedding to reflect that. Many of my family members initially didn’t see parts of our vision but we stayed true to it until the end and I couldn’t be happier. I have always been a fan of vibrant colors as well as romantic rustic settings. I knew it was going to be a challenge to combine horses, gold sequins, and floral patterns together but I knew it was a challenge that we could accomplish. Jerry was very involved in the planning process from the get go which I am very grateful for. Without him, some of our most talked about details would not have happened. We started by gathering all of the images I had been gathering on my Pinterest on one page and picking what would be realistic and what else we wanted included. We also wanted everything that we brought in to look like it belonged in the venue.

We took on a huge amount of DIY project but two of my most memorable were making the moss covered table rounds for the guest tables and making my own veil. For the table rounds we took cardboard presentation boards and cut them down to 3 foot diameter rounds and attached the moss with spray adhesive. The moss rounds really transformed the event space and made it more whimsical. For the wedding veil I found a vintage lace on Etsy that matched the lace on my gown. Honestly that was the hardest part. The actual sewing of the lace onto the tulle only took three hours and I was able to make a detachable blusher as well. I highly recommend most brides to attempt to make their own wedding veil. It made the whole wedding planning process more tangible.

We really had a lot of different fabrics used through out the wedding as decor. What I found worked the best for us was using those with vibrant colors as accent pieces like napkins or bow ties, while the more neutral patterns were used for bigger pieces like tablecloths and drapery. That way the bright colors weren’t too overwhelming but they were still there to break up the underlying neutral color pallet of the venue.

The actual wedding day was surreal. I was pretty worried about little details of the day until our first look. As soon as I saw his face I knew that everything was going to be okay. From that moment on it was pure bliss. I have never cried so many happy tears in my whole life. It was a magic day filled with lots of laughter and I won’t have it any other way. It was incredible seeing all of the little touches that we have been working on for the past year come together seamlessly. Yes, we pulled off a vibrant wedding where the bridesmaids were adorned in gold sequin rented dresses and the groomsmen wore floral bow ties. One of my best pieces of advice for future brides and grooms is to go for it. You regret all of the things that you changed for other people instead of being true to yourself.

From The Groom…A critical aspect of the wedding planning process was narrowing down the photographer and videographer choices. As a professional photographer myself, the images and videos that come from the wedding were the most important thing to me. They are truly the only things that last from the wedding planning process. Florals wilt, catering gets eaten, outfits get put in the closet. The things that last are the photos and videos. Because of that I took the time to find professionals that I could trust and provide the quality timeless products that my family will cherish for years to come. I chose Wayne and Angela Photography and Focused Bliss Productions because they create products that are timeless and clean.

DIY decor was a task that I underestimated. We decided to create or acquire majority of the decor ourselves. We handmade the pennants, the two head tables, table runners, and various other decor items. My father and I hand built our two head tables. This was an amazing experience as we created tables that we are now using as our dining room tables. This bonding experience brought my father and I together. We purchased our own stemware, vintage napkins and bud vases for the tables. We bought all our wine, champagne, and mixers from Bevmo and beer from Costco. Don’t underestimate how much space in your house a whole weddings worth of alcohol, decor and dinnerware takes up. It was all worth it in the end as we saved thousands of dollars make, acquiring and storing everything ourselves. Make sure you call some giving friends who will help with DIY projects and moving heavy things.

The wedding day was wonderful, all of our planning from the prior year made the day go off without a hitch. It was all worth it when we stood up at the archway and kissed. We were married. The guests really enjoyed the experience and could see the effort we put into really present a unique guest experience. We danced, got drunk, laughed and had an amazing time.

Traveling to Italy? Add These 5 Must-See Destinations To Your List

There are only so many gorgeous Italy scenes one can handle before their wanderlust kicks into overdrive, especially if you’ve never been—like moi! If you’re in the same boat and still have yet to check off Italy on your travel wish list, make sure to pin this one jet-setters. Tamara Gruner is not only sharing the pretty snaps from her recent trip, but also giving us the scoop on all the must-see spots.

From Tamara GrunerComing to Italy is always a highlight. Italy is one of our most favorite places to go – it offers everything from beautiful landscapes, tranquil villages, food and wine to impressive Rome and Milan with its architecture and fashion and the cute little seaside villages along the coast.

Tuscany

On our recent trip to Italy we were lucky to experience incredible Tuscany. We were fortunate enough to stay at one of the most impressive villas (now turned into a hotel) in the area – Borgo Pignano. An 18th century villa nestled in the middle of the idyllic landscape offering amazing views of the surroundings. At Pignano one can hold a wedding or just stay here for a very relaxing holiday. The pool at the villa – carved from a limestone cliff – is a place to soak the sun or enjoy a cocktail with your beloved. Add some incredible Italian wine and food to it and you wish you could stay back forever. If you are on a budget and you would like to stay at a bed and breakfast we highly recommend La Fontaccia.

Where to Eat: Borgo Pignano

Where to Stay: Villa Borgo Pignano or for budget at the wonderful bed and breakfast La Fontaccia

Must See: Vineyards and surrounding cities such as incredible Siena

Siena

In addition to the vineyards Tuscany also offers beautiful little cities such as amazing Siena. Stroll around the cute little streets of Siena along side medieval brick buildings until you hit the Piazza del Campo with its impressive Palazzo Pubblico, the Gothic town hall, and Torre del Mangia. Dive into the sweet taverns and restaurants to sip and nip on wine and snacks and salami. Then head out to the Piazza del Campo again and take a 360 view tour on the Torre del Mangia, a beautiful tower from the 14th century from which you have a nice overlook of Siena and its surroundings.

Where to Stay: Villa Borgo Pignano or for budget at the wonderful bed and breakfast La Fontaccia

Must See: Piazza del Campo, Palazzo Pubblico, Torre del Mangia, Basilica of San Domenico, Siena Cathedral

West Coast: Rapallo, Portofino and Cinque Terre

Once you had enough of the beautiful green rolling hills of Tuscany head out to the west coast to the pretty little seaside villages at the Italian Riviera.

Rapallo

If you would like to spend some time at the west coast of Italy make Rapallo your base from where you can take day trips to Portofino and the famous Cinque Terre. Rapallo is a cute little coastal town where you can spend your afternoons at little cafes with views to the Ligurian sea. Explore the little streets of this town and check out the shops Rapallo has to offer.

Portofino

Take a boat tour to the coastal village of Portofino. Once you are there take a little hike up the hill to be amazed by the breathtaking views over Portofino and the width of the Ligurian sea. Up the hill is a little cafe where you can grab a bite to get ready for your hike down to the village. Stroll around the colorful buildings and check out the boats and yachts stranded at the port.

Cinque Terre

You want to see all of the 5 villages of Cinque Terre rugged at the Italian Riviera coastline? Start your day very early to make it all happen. The five villages – Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore – are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A MUST SEE. Enjoy the pretty views up the hills overlooking the cute colorful villages. Stop into restaurants overlooking the Italian Riviera on a beautiful spring or summer day.

I remember seeing those 5 villages for the first time in 2011. This was before the villages were hit by torrential rains causing floods and mudslides. Coming back years later, we still saw the effects of those floods and mudslides. Drive carefully since some streets are still not recovered in full shape.

Gold Medalist Shawn Johnson Shares Her Adorable Engagement Photos

You know her as Olympic gold medalist, but this weekend Shawn is taking on the role of “bride” as she weds Oakland Raider long snapper, Andrew East in Nashville. While we’re on pins and needles to see how the big day turns out, let’s a peek at her darling engagement session shot by Wild Native in the meantime. Congrats, Shawn! We know you’ll make the most beautiful bride.

From Wild NativeIf she looks familiar to you, you may be as much of a fan of the 2008 US Women’s Gymnastic team as I was! I remember parking myself in front of the TV in my college dorm, locked in as this incredible group of women competed for the gold!

If he looks familiar, you might be a bigger fan of pro football than I’ll admit I am. In fact, I didn’t recognize this handsome hunk at all before we started taking engagement pictures one sweet springtime afternoon in Nashville. Recently signed with the Seattle Seahawks, sweet Shawn is the only thing this dashing long snapper loves more than sports.

This pair has a redemptive sort of love. Not only an incredible amount of affection and grace for each other, but there is this kindness about them that you can’t help but notice. We spent an entire day together and I was blown away by their warmth and their generosity. They are the sweetest couple I have ever photographed and am over the moon to shoot their wedding.

#SMPWedding101 – 5 Times To Call In the Wedding Pro’s

I was thisssss close to calling in the big guns when planning my own Big Day. I’m not ashamed to admit there were a few close teary calls and while it all came together in the end, if I were to do it again, I probably would ask for some assistance… you see, there are just some situations where no matter how talented you are or how much time you may have, a pro’s advice is priceless. Here’s five situations when it’s just plain smarter to put down the papers and pick up the phone!

1. Large Guest Lists

Having the whole town attend your elegant affair? If there are just simply too many people for you to manage yourself, an extra set of hands (or two, or three) is not only helpful, but practically necessary to ensure everyone’s details can be accounted for.

2. Beyond Basic Destination Weddings

If guests need to book trains, planes and automobiles to get to your gorgeous venue, it doesn’t hurt to have a pro to assist with all those lovely logistics. Delegate however you can!

3. Short Engagements

Eager to tie the knot and not drag out the drama? We’re all for a short engagement (under six months is fast by typical standards) but when everything needs to be rushed a bit more than usual, it’s a wise idea to have a helping hand manage all the quick moving parts.

4. Busy Bees

Is the time constraint not on the engagement period itself, but on your own availability? Consuming 24/7 job? If you don’t have the time to meet with florists and pick out envelope liners, let a pro step in and keep things running on schedule.

5. Party Un-planners

Or maybe you have all the time in the world… but no real interest in debating peonies vs. roses. That’s OK! But to guarantee your wedding doesn’t have the same laissez faire approach, seek out a planner to guide you and get those items crossed off your list so you can go do what you really want during your engagement – spend time with that future partner of yours!

This Bride + Groom Said “I Do” in the Most Unique Location

The next best thing to getting married underwater? Getting married in an aquarium! And for this Southern California Bride and Groom who “wanted to do something that was out of the ordinary,” deciding on an aquarium wedding was as easy as saying, “I do.” From the gorgeous white bouquets to the whimsical ocean-themed candy bar, this wedding definitely has the “wow” factor. See it all from Ryon:Lockhart Photography in The Vault!

From The Bride…The story of how Alex and I met is a simple yet sweet one. Our best friends set us up on a double date and as they had suspected, we hit it off immediately. It didn’t take long to realize that there was a special connection between us and from that day on, it was impossible to find the two of us apart. We survived the trials of a long distance relationship and after almost 4 years of dating, it was time to take our relationship to the next level!

After asking my father for his blessing, it was off to the island of romance Catalina! Upon arrival we were escorted to a private ocean front bungalow which was ready with champagne and decorated with roses petals. After a glass of liquid courage, Alex got down on a knee and asked me if I’d spend the rest of my life with him. I was ecstatic and obviously said YES and the rest of the weekend was a celebration of our love as we started making plans for the big day.

When it came to finding a venue the only thing we were certain about was that we wanted to do something that was out of the ordinary. Knowing that we had a year filled with weddings to look forward to, we aimed to provide a unique experience for our guest. With a spectacular waterside location, the world class Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California offered the beautifully unique atmosphere that we had been looking for!! It also happened to be where Alex took me on our second dates which made the location extra special!!

After booking the space for our June 27th, 2015 wedding we hired Emma Seitz of First Pick Planning to help us plan every detail, asked Lotus and Lily to design our beautiful flower arrangements and brought in Ryon:Lockhart photography to capture it all. With this dream team we were able to take our visions of a classic, timeless and nautically inspired event and make it a reality.

After months of planning the big day had finally arrived. As guests arrived they were greeted with beautiful harbor views and sounds of steel drums before being escorted to into the venue through a special underwater tunnel/entrance which cut directly through the Sea Lion exhibit. Rose petals and candles led the way for our friends and family as they experienced their first animal encounter of the night. The ceremony itself was short and sweet and it took place in front of the breathtaking three-story Blue Cavern exhibit. Guests then move upstairs for cocktail hours and enjoyed refreshments and yummy appetizers while getting a close-up look at their favorite animals and exhibits. We also had animal experts stationed throughout the venue who performed demonstrations with the animals, shared interesting facts and gave behind-the-scenes perspectives of working with the animals.

As it came time to move back downstairs to the reception space for dinner, escort cards sent guests to their tables which were named after sea creatures found within the aquarium. The playful affair featured navy and white stripes, all white flowers, gold accent pieces and the blue lighting created a feeling of warmth, making the huge space feel cozy and welcoming. After dinner our 250 guests danced the night away and indulged in our ‘ocean’ themed candy bar!

To say our wedding day was a dream come true would be an understatement. Alex and I couldn’t have asked for anything more and will treasure the memories from that day for the rest of our lives.

This is How You Weave a Touch of Copper in Your Wedding!

I’ll always and forever be a gold kind of girl, but I’d also be crazy to not love this season’s hottest metallic trend – copper. Think of it as gold’s stylish little sister with just the right amount of edge to step up any wedding palette. Vendors Deborah ZoeShannon GrantRomanticist Studio and Beach Plum Floral Design showed us how it’s done, and there’s lots more inspiration sitting in The Vault.

From Deborah Zoe PhotoWedding photographers, Shannon Grant and Deborah Zoe, along with a super-talented creative team collaborated together on this “Industrial Romance” inspiration shoot geared towards brides planning a modern spring wedding in Boston.

“We really wanted to evoke the sense of two becoming one by combining the soft femininity of a romantic style paired with the hard edges of an industrial space. Styled by Roberta of The Romanticist Studios, each detail was perfectly paired to have a beautiful balanced look, a fitting metaphor for marriage.

It was important to us that the details felt fashion-forward and editorial and that they represented the concept of industrial romance well. We were also enamored with the 2016 Pantone color choices and wanted to weave them into the shoot in a unique way. we decided to pair Rose Quartz and blush along with pops of Fiesta Red and copper accents. It was a color palette that felt fresh and modern to us while also giving a nod to the more feminine and classic colors of blush and pink. Incorporating the metal accents through the use of copper was a fun twist as well.

The shiny escort cards were hand cut from copper plates and lettered with an airy, white calligraphy font penned by Yennygrams. The invitation suite features blush toned paper, muted red watercolors and copper acrylic ink.

Beach Plum Floral installed a dramatic garland made of seeded eucalyptus with pops of bright red anemones, ranunculus, soft blush roses, lisianthus and subtle touches of peach colored Juliet garden roses and incorporated these same touches in the bouquet. The pops of fiesta red anemones and ranunculus were the perfect unexpected touch to these romantic arrangements. Red and peach silk ribbons were cut long to catch the air and float along with our bride.

Voted Best New Venue by the Venue Report, Warehouse XI provided the industrial backdrop with their loft-like, raw white space and natural light. Be Our Guest finished off the space with a romantic and industrial table setting with a mix of soft, organic materials and structured man-made silhouette. The pink tulle from was intentionally left raw and hand crafted with unfinished edges to showcase the linen’s organic texture and lend to it a sense of movement. The effect is as if the tulle is spilling out of the galvanized metal lid and it’s the perfect finishing element. It balances the femininity of tulle with a clean, polished manner.

Hair that moves styled a loose and wavy up-do to compliment the shoot’s romantic vibe while Amanda McCarthy Beauty gave our Bride a fresh and dewy glow with just the right amount of pop of pink on the lips. Flair Boston picked the perfect gown to accompany the shoot with a tulle gown by designer Aria.

When it came to dessert, we knew we definitely wanted to include a sampling of a local favorite, Union Square donuts. Not only are they delicious but we’ve noticed unique treats like donuts are a growing wedding day trend! In addition to the donut spread we also wanted to feature cake but in a modern and fresh way. Artisan Bake Shop ran with the industrial romance theme and created two unique cakes, one covered with a metallic copper hand painted fondant and the other was a delicious naked cake, topped with powdered sugar, and draped with the softest blooms.

An Entertainment Editor’s Wedding Brings Joy Back to the Jersey Shore

After her family’s Jersey Shore beach house burned down during Hurricane Sandy, this gorgeous Bride (a Senior Editor at HuffPost Entertainment) and her handsome Groom decided their wedding was the perfect opportunity to “bring happiness back to the shore.” From Leigh’s stunning Rosa Clara Soft gown from Lovely Bride to the vintage glass bottle centerpieces, this day is full of beauty, love and so much joy. Take it all in thanks to InfocusNYC Photography in The Vault!

From The Bride…As I’m looking back on my wedding now, I have a huge smile across my face. Wow, what a journey to get to that one day, and how special it was to see all our hard work come to life.

My husband Will and I met a bar called The Red Lion in NYC in September 2011. While enjoying a night out with my gal pals, I bumped into my friend’s brother and got to chatting. He soon introduced me to a handsome young filmmaker friend (Will) and I felt an instant connection. From there, Will asked me out through email — how weird — and we dated for the next three years, bonding over our shared interest in the Entertainment field. (I am a Senior Editor at HuffPost Entertainment and Will, as mentioned, is a freelance filmmaker.) He proposed at sunset at his New Hampshire lake house in August 2014, with a pear-shaped diamond his dad proposed to his mom with, resetting it for me with a little help from my friends. It was magical, but somehow, our wedding day trumped it all.

I knew that I wanted to get married in September (the month we met) and down the Jersey Shore, where I spent many a summer at my parents’ longtime beach house. Sadly, the house, as well as some of our neighbors’ places, had burned down in a fire during Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and my family lost not only belongings, but a place where hundreds of beloved memories were built. It was a hard few months as my parents decided whether or not it was worth it to rebuild, but after realizing how special it was to all of us, they decided to go ahead and design a modular home. After missing two summers down the shore, the house was ready by Labor Day weekend of 2014, and we were thrilled. I turned to Will and said, “We need to bring happiness back to the shore,” and so we began researching venues.

We looked at a couple of places, but nothing stood out. I began thinking we could just rent a tent and do it up at the beach, but my mom warned that weather was unpredictable and although it sounded beautiful, the risk wasn’t worth it. So, we ended up looking into the Bay Head Yacht Club, which had recently been remodeled after the storm. It was stunning, romantic, nautical and classic. Only problem? You needed to be a member or get a member to sponsor you to have a wedding there. Luckily for us, Will’s uncle happened to have a friend who was a member and he decided to allow us the chance to have the wedding of our dreams.

The BHYC has a ballroom overlooking the bay, featuring a beamed ceiling embellished with sailing flags. It’s amazing. I knew I wanted to stick with the vibe of the room, but bring a little DIY magic to it. I also knew I wanted to play with a color palette of mint, navy and gold — to focus on the beachy side of the location. So, I began collecting old vintage bottles for the centerpieces to replicate sea glass, as well as the classic feel I was going for. I found some in Brooklyn, but amazingly enough, while up in New Hampshire at the lake house one weekend, we stumbled across a man named Gary who collected said bottles as a hobby, digging them up at old farms and in backyards. We purchased 75 of his “babies,” as he called them, and promised him that they’d be put to good use.

And they were. As we worked with our florist, we decided to fill the bottles with an arrangement of flowers featured in my and my bridesmaids’ bouquets — peach garden roses, dusty miller, white sweet pea, white lisianthus and assorted greenery and ferns. I then found old fish netting and cut it up to make smaller pieces for under the bottles at each table, then I decided that some candles would tie it all together. They were simple and unique, and didn’t clash with the BHYC’s ceiling.

While on the topic of bridesmaids, I knew I wanted to do a mixture of colors for their dresses to create an ombre effect, mimicking the sea glass shades of the bottles. I decided to go with the strapless Donna Morgan Laura dress in three shades — Candy Apple for my maid and matron of honor, Beachglass for three girls and Hint of Mint for another three. (Eight ladies all together.) My mother-in-law is a jeweler — Due Sorelle — and hand-made personalized necklaces for each of my ladies with beads I helped pick out. And to tie in the navy, Will and I decided that a blue tux would be great for the guys. We found one on The Black Tux — midnight blue — and got Will and his groomsmen matching shark socks to tie in the whimsical, beach theme.

For save-the-dates, we bought a wedding stamp from Etsy store Designkandy and hand-stamped it in navy ink on a mint card. We stamped a tag with “Save the Date” and tied it with a gold string onto the mint card. For invitations, we used our stamp again for the envelope, but bought a nautical card from Paper Source. Our RSVP and wedding details were on our website, Zullove.com — #Zullove was also our wedding hashtag as “Zullo” is Will’s last name.

For my dress, I wanted something vintage-looking with a bit of flare. I went to Lovely Bride in NYC and tried on a few dresses but fell in love with the Rosa Clara Soft Ulises gown, which featured sequins and a long, embellished train. I ended up wearing my hair up for the ceremony and down for the reception, sporting a jeweled flower crown by Toni Federici. My shoes were Kate Spade. (Discounted at Nordstrom rack, always a bargain shopper!) I wore my mom’s tennis bracelet and my great grandmother’s ruby bracelet for a pop of color. My hair and makeup were done by Shear Serenity Salon in my hometown of Pearl River, NY — Sam Diliberto has been doing my hair since my junior prom. They traveled down to the shore for the big day, and stayed by my side the entire time, making me look pretty every step of the way.

My bridesmaids, mom, mother-in-law and I got ready at my parents house, while Will and his men got dressed at The Bentley Inn in Bay Head. The girls and I walked up to the beach for some pictures, and my neighbors all came out to greet me! It brought tears to my eyes. When we were done, we got into the trolley from Long Branch and headed to our ceremony.

We were married in a full Catholic mass at Sacred Heart Church. We kept it simple, doing baby’s breath and burlap bows for the aisles and having our “ring-bearers” (our baby nephews) in Janie & Jack seersucker pants and white shirts and our flower girls in Janie & Jack blueberry-striped dresses. (They were obviously the cutest part of the wedding!)

For fun, at the reception, we set up a DIY-photobooth with the help of my sister-in-law, decorating it with fish-netting, banners and fun props. We also had a “message in a bottle” and a decoupage sand castle my friend’s mom made from scratch to be featured on the place cards table. Speaking of from scratch, our cake was made by Mueller’s Bakery in Bay Head. It was a red velvet cake, died mint-colored, with cream cheese filling. The outside was white and mint with an anchor candle as the topper.

We wanted the best of both worlds when it came to music, so we had a cocktail hour band, The Brooklyn Sugar Stompers who cover 1920s Gatsby-style music, and a DJ for reception, Aria Melody DJ. Both were fantastic and I highly recommend them.

Our photographers from Infocus NYC captured our day beautifully. From getting ready to breaking it down on the dance floor, they got every moment on camera. Take a look!

Hear How Lauren Conrad Involved Her Gal Pals in Wedding Prep!

I think we all wish Lauren Conrad was our real-life BFF, and today she’s giving us lots more reason to love her. When asked about her favorite wedding detail from her 2014 nuptials to William Tell, she shared, “We tried to add in little personal touches. You want it to feel special when you have everyone you love there. A few days before, several girlfriends and I baked all the pies for the wedding dessert. It took a while. I cored, peeled and sliced all the apples while watching a marathon of shows, and then we made 50 pies. We were in running shoes, getting it done.

Lauren’s bake-a-thon is exactly the kind of personalization we love, so take cues from LC’s crew and see more fun ways to involve your friends during the wedding planning process. Pie making parties included.

Trés Chic Ways to Dress Like a French Girl

It’s a well known fact that the French have chic style down to a science. Case in point, Daphné of Mode and the City. Her classic French Girl style totally inspires us to incorporate a good silk scarf moment every now and then. So when Keaton Row’s stylist, Ariel Stark, offered up 5 tips for infusing a little trés chic into our own wardrobes, we were all in. Read up on simple ways to give your American closet a healthy dose of french flair.

Contrast your shoe height with your hemline

Ever notice how French women always look appropriate for a given occasion—never too provocative or overly conservative? The key to this always-on-point style of dressing is contrasting your shoe height with your hemline. If you’re wearing a mini skirt or dress, dial down the sex appeal by donning flats such as loafers, oxfords, Chelsea boots, or sneakers. If you’re wearing a skirt or dress that hits at the knee or lower, opt for high heels. The contrast between heel height and hemline will ensure that you’re never showing too much, or looking overly covered up.

Invest in your future closet

American women are often focused on trends—this is the land of all things bright, shiny, and new, after all! French women, however, see developing their personal style as a journey and when they find something that works—for their bodies, their budgets, their lifestyle—they stick to it unapologetically. If you know you feel and look great in a leather jacket, save up and invest in one that will last for years. Invest in clothes for the long term so you’re always building a closet you love

Keep it (mostly) classic

No woman can live on basics alone but French women realized early on that a little touch of the unexpected goes a long way. You already know that French girls love their simple basics—fitted tees, relaxed trousers, a good trench, etc. But, a true Gallic girl keeps things interesting by mixing her classics with a graphic headscarf, a statement shoe, or a bold pop of color or by introducing a playful print to a classic silhouette. Keeping your look 90% classic with just 10% flare is the perfect equation for an outfit that is both timeless and personal.

Embrace navy

Of course, French girls love the color black (don’t we all), but they also know that swapping out your neutrals to fit the season keeps you looking fresh and modern. Give your black basics a rest for spring and summer and sub in some navy separates for an elevated look.

Add a scarf

Whether it’s a cozy wool version for winter or a sleek silk number in the summer, the right scarf is an invaluable accessory for any French woman. It’s a one-size-fits-all accessory that adds elegance to any outfit.

This At-Home Engagement Session Will Give You Major #RelationshipGoals

This light, airy engagement session is just my cup of of tea because as Cari Zhu Photography said, “When they look back on their photographs years from now, their at-home session will mean so much more to them than anywhere else.” But the most special part isn’t the fact that it’s at-home, it’s the love letters the Bride- and Groom-to-be exchanged and read to one another. Sip on all the sweet moments in The Vault!

From Cari Zhu PhotographyI can’t even tell you how much I loved shooting this session. This was the first engagement session I’ve shot at my couple’s home and I’m absolutely in love!!! I’m always thinking of new things to try with my couples. My goal for an e-session is not only to achieve authentic and beautiful imagery, but also to create a memorable experience for my couples. I honestly feel like we really nailed it this time!

As much as I love a beautiful outdoor location with water, trees, wind, and that beautiful sunset glow…it’s still hard to beat capturing a couple in their natural state, simply enjoy living and being together. I know when they look back on their photographs years from now, their “at home” session will mean so much more to them than anywhere else.

To make things even more personal, I asked them to write each other a short love letter before their shoot and had them read it to each other…hence the teary eyed bride-to-be! At first they were skeptical – they claim to be non-sentimental people, but I think I’m slowly converting them. Sean even admitted in his letter that it was a great reminder for why they were having the shoot in the first place.

From The Bride…I met Sean in first year university when I went to visit my best friend (and now maid of honour) at her residence. Right after she introduced me and throughout their friendship during university I would keep telling her “you should date him – he’s cute!” but good thing she never took me seriously or followed through on my advice…

Over the years I would see Sean here and there when I was in Toronto visiting my best friend. The thought of dating would never have crossed my mind in a million years as we were both in relationships and living in different cities (me in Waterloo and him in Toronto). But five years later we saw each other again at a friend’s bbq when we were both single and everything just took off from there.

There’s so much that I love about Sean beyond the physical attraction. I love his intelligence and intellectual curiosity, his ambition and goals of self improvement. I love that despite all of his talents and achievements, he’s one of the most humble and modest people I know. He approaches life with a laid back, calm and logical attitude and always manages to make me feel better in a difficult or stressful situation. We share similar life goals and interests like being active outdoors, playing sports or being accountants! But most importantly everything is better when we’re together – I laugh more, have more fun and am a better person because of him. He’s the yin to my yang.
