The Sweetest Southern Wedding Filled with Charm

As Kelsey and H.Clay planned their big day they decided to pick the most important factors and focus their time and energy there. First up? An intimate destination wedding. Secondly? Hire a stellar photographer. Enter Sarah Joelle Photography and a romantic Charleston celebration with their nearest and dearest in tow. From the romantic outdoor ceremony, to the al fresco reception, we’ve got it all waiting for you to witness in The Vault!

From the Bride…When H.Clay and I decided to get married (in the midst of medical school) we knew that we would need a non-extravagant day. We sat down and talked about what was really important to us—family and the commitment. We made a decision to focus on what matters most, and I am so thankful that we did.

My favorite part of the day would definitely have to be the first few moments after the ceremony, after we had actually made the commitment. We just were so giddy and excited about what had just happened.

My advice to newly engaged gals (by the way, CONGRATS!) would be absolutely follow your heart. Find the three most important things to you and your fiancé and focus your time and money there. H.Clay and I knew that we wanted an intimate day to focus on one another and our families. We also wanted stellar photography and videography. Don’t get me wrong, there were moments throughout our engagement where I lost sight of these things and began to question an intimate destination wedding. But as soon as our wedding day began I was grateful– Grateful that we followed our hearts (and our guts), grateful that our day was so laid-back and meaningful, and grateful for the sweet moments with our families.

My only other piece of advice to new brides would be—find vendors that you would be friends with! Things will go much smoother when you are on the same page. Carri from Mac and B events was AMAZING and I always felt like I was talking to my girlfriend. Also, our photographer, Joelle was my good friend already and she knew exactly what I hoped for on our wedding day. She captured our giddiness, excitement and love to a T. Most of all, savor every second of your day!

From the Bride… Max and I met among friends in a co-ed soccer league. I noticed him right away. He and his best friend (our future Best Man) were the ringers for the team; usually scoring all the goals. But beyond that he had a great smile, was quick to laughter (and of course had a great soccer physique) and I was drawn to him right away. We were both commuting to the games and because of the distance we often didn’t get to join the rest of the team for group outings and practices. Max asked for my number so he could organize a practice for a few of us coming from the other side of town. Oddly enough, he was the only one to show up to practice. He says he didn’t plan it that way, but I like to give him more credit. Nonetheless, after an afternoon filled with flirtation we were both hooked, and the rest is history.

I had an inclination that the proposal was coming. I couldn’t help but feel it might happen at any time. He said he was carrying around the ring for days and was waiting for the perfect moment. After work one day he asked me to meet him at the Rancho Bernardo Inn for a candlelight dinner on their beautiful Spanish style back patio that overlooks the golf course. After a romantic evening, dusk was falling and he took my hand and led me away from the restaurant towards an outdoor fireplace. The air was cool and we snuggled next to the fireplace where he took my hand and began to tell me how much he loves and cares about me. Before I knew what was happening he was bent on one knee asking me to marry him. It didn’t take me more than a second to say yes to the love of my life.

Max and I have always been inspired by Italian architecture, food and wine. We really wanted to transport ourselves and our guests to Tuscany with the wedding venue and décor. The challenge was that in Southern California finding a Villa is no easy task. We decided on transforming the beautiful Bel Air Bay Club in Pacific Palisades nestled between Santa Monica and Malibu with romantic touches from Tuscany. The Bel Air Bay Club is covered with an elegant stone that has an Old World feel and sits on a hilltop with breathtaking ocean views. We thought that loose florals of ivory, blush and cranberry with touches of olive leaves would lend themselves nicely to the space. We surrounded our guests in candlelight to create a warm and romantic atmosphere. Greenery draped from the rustic chandelier at the entrance to the reception. Guests were given olive bottles with rosemary as place cards directing them to their table labeled by our most loved Italian cities. Each place setting had a personalized menu with olive sprigs and guests could look forward to a spread of beautiful Italian specialties for dessert. We had a special monogram made that we will cherish for the rest of our lives together. This monogram could be found throughout the venue, on the napkins, menu’s, olive leave bags (meant to toss after our vows) and stamped in wax seals on our wedding invitations. The wedding process was extra challenging being that we live in San Diego and the venue is a good two to three hour drive from our home. We often had to make the drive for tastings, floral mock-ups, vendor meetings etc. However, after a day filled with so much romance, love, laughter and friendship we would do it all over again without a second thought.

From Empty Apartment to Killer Bachelorette Pad for under 5K

I think most of us can relate to moving into a new space with nothing but boxes of clothes and a mattress on the floor. But with the help of Shannon Smith of Homepolish this city apartment was quickly whipped into Bachelorette Pad Dreaminess and all for 5K. It’s a study in glam neutrals and art-filled vignettes. See the full tour captured by Laura Metzler right here.

Sometimes transformations are absolutely startling. When Homepolish’s Shannon Smith first walked into Emily Rasowski’s Logan Circle apartment, it was… well, sparse would be generous. The only piece of furniture was a mattress (if you count that as furniture), and various suitcases were strewn about the apartment. She had only been in the space for a couple days, but the need to make it a home was urgent. And they needed to do it all for only $5K.

As it was, the space was not at all appropriate for Emily, who Shannon immediately describes as a “lady boss.” After a long day at the office, Emily needed a sanctuary (albeit a chic one) to come home to. A mixture of calm, relaxing, and adult… somewhat reflective of her extra-work activity of pursuing yoga.

Unsurprisingly, a bright and neutral tone prevails throughout the apartment from the white walls to the white rug and linens. Even the light gray sofa seems to blend in nicely. But this isn’t to say that there aren’t standout features.

The bar cart is framed out in mirrored glass to reflect more light into the space. And as you can see black and white art is throughout the apartment. Believe it or not, it was rather inexpensive, simply printed from Staples and hung in Ikea frames.

A dark sofa was used as a base for the otherwise white room. Marble-like abstract art adds depth to the space, and the glass waterfall table provides a great surface area without taking up any visual space.

A simple white desk is complemented by a lucite chair. Smaller glam objects up the level of luxury in the apartment, but subtly.

In the bedroom, a stark black feature wall highlights abstract gold fish sculptures. Quirkier objects such as a golden cat-shaped wine bottle and a unicorn lamp show how Shannon and Emily clicked. Oh, and don’t forget the black and white yoga photos. As Shannon notes, “It’s art imitating life.”

Now the mattress is lifted off the floor and designated by a beautiful headboard from Joss & Main! #adulting

Chic Garden Wedding With a Must-See Reception Table

It’s pretty darn tough to top a proposal in the French Alps, but sure enough, Rodan and Billy did just that. Their guests were treated to a black-tie garden party including one epic family-style table designed in the hands of 36th Street Events. Intention and heart were behind every detail of the day and Michelle Boyd and Gentry Railsback captured the pretty you won’t want to miss.

From Michelle Boyd Photography… How to describe Rodan and Billy’s day? … Intentional. From start to finish, this wedding day was full of sweet and intimate details. Our sweet bride and groom thought of so many ways to give their guests and families a beautiful, welcoming, and FUN experience, which only highlighted the sincerity and kindness in both of their hearts. Usually when I arrive to photograph the bride getting ready, things can be a bit hectic. But not on this day! I entered into the hotel to see a room full of Rodan’s closest friends simply sitting with their bride, encouraging her, telling stories, and laughing with each other. But it was when Rodan, in preparation for the day, read her vows aloud to her ladies, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room that I realized we were in for a very special day. When we arrived at Laguna Gloria, it felt like we had been transported to a little oasis. Clementine’s floral design embraced the natural greenery of our venue, and enhanced the feeling that we were in someone’s elegant backyard garden. 36th Street pulled off a flawless affair, from the moment guests arrived, until Rodan and Billy departed under the sparklers. From cold custom cocktails to greet guests on our toasty April day, to music throughout every moment of the day, and dinner under twinkle lights and stars – every part of Rodan and Billy’s day was magical!!

From the Bride…

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?

My fiancé and I got engaged on an epic hike through the French Alps and that was where we really fell in love with the immersive consuming beauty of nature. Afterwards, I knew I wanted to be married somewhere lush and outdoorsy to try and recapture some of the visual beauty of where we got engaged. Simultaneously, I wanted a really elegant wedding. I knew I wanted tuxes and gold details in my tablescape. I wanted to keep a lot of those amazing traditional details, so a lot of my vision for our wedding was about balancing the two themes. In the end, I ended up creating a visual mood board that helped me narrow and really bring to life my vision.

What was your color palette and your style vision?

Wanting something lush and yet elegant naturally created some boundaries for what colors I wanted in the wedding. Once I knew I was getting married in Austin, as opposed to some of the other locations I was looking at, I knew I wanted a lot of green. Eucalyptus is also one of our favorite trees so green as base color made a lot of sense. From there white, rose and a deeper dusty blue made sense to give it a romantic and elegant feel. At the very last moment, I decided to include some details of red because in the Chinese culture, red is the symbol of good luck and celebration.

What unique elements or DIY details did you include?

We sprinkled bits of DIY details throughout the wedding process. For our website, we created a Pinterest map of all the fun places to go to in Austin bucked into things like shopping, eating and fun local activities. For our welcome bags handed out to guests at the Welcome Drinks, my mother-in-law made small batch pecan bourbon for a special Texas touch. As for our invitations, I worked for weeks with a talented illustrator / designer to create the perfect crest and designed our invitation to exactly match the tone I was trying to achieve for our wedding.

What was your favorite moment?

Every moment was awesome, it’s so hard to pick one. Obviously the vows and ceremony itself stand out as the most special moment, but after we said “I Do”, our photographer walked us around the venue to the back of the museum where we would take photos and seeing everything come to life – things I had spent months dreaming of and putting together – it was really special and magical. All of my favorite details were there – the beautiful array of candles, plates and eucalyptus, our personalized crests on the programs, the incredibly inventive and delicious catering.

Tell us about your flowers, your gown, your favors, your cake, etc.

It took me a long time to find my dress and even when I found it, I was kind of unsure right up until the final fitting. It was a beautiful gown by Reem Acra from a few seasons back and really perfect and elegant. The reason I had hesitancy was because I always kind of wanted a ball gown and the Reem Acra dress was so far from that. Looking back though, it really was the perfect dress. I kept the other accessories quite simple but ended up doing my hair and makeup in an old Hollywood way which I felt like was just the right amount of glamour to make me feel special on my wedding day but also kept me feeling like me. My fiancé wore a custom blue tux that he took a lot of pride in designing and it was the perfect compliment!

What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?

I would give three pieces of advice. First (and this is from my husband), whenever the festivities start, give your phone to someone else and just enjoy everything. From what was planned to what wasn’t – live the ride. We certainly did. We partied harder and cried harder than I think we could have imagined. Second, brides – don’t ever feel pressured to make a decision. Especially when you’re just getting your feet wet when venue picking. People will pressure you saying 10 other couples are looking at the exact wedding but don’t let them. Make the decision that feels best to you. Lastly, it’s worth it. No matter the stress – this was the very happiest and best day of our life. It all came together insanely better than we could have imagined and I wish I could do it all over again.

The Daily Checklist for Keeping Your Kitchen Eternally Spotless

Our kitchen is one of the rooms I spend the most time in our home. So making sure it stays sparkly clean is a huge priority of mine—but often easier said than done (even with no kiddos yet!). It’s a constant revolving door, from crafting meals to acting as a catchall for mail, magazines and usually my husband’s wallet, watch, keys, etc. To keep everything organized, shiny and in order, here are a few things we do on the daily to make that happen!

Like a classic fairytale, the love story of Elizabeth and Oliver began at a picturesque castle in the European countryside (it’s true)! Studying abroad, the couple met at Chateau de Schengen in Luxembourg and continued their relationship as seniors in college. Before tying the knot, Elizabeth and Oliver shared many adventures and eventually settled in their Upper West Side apartment, which they now call home. The couple celebrated their “happily ever after” with friends and family at the St. Regis Hotel in New York on April 30, 2016.

Throughout the wedding planning process, Elizabeth and Oliver made sure to include details which reflect their personalities: a trolley to accommodate their colossal wedding party, mismatched bridesmaid dresses (a nod to the bride’s love of fashion), a documentary-style live artist, luggage tag favors/escort cards embossed with their favorite travel quotes, a surprise appearance by Mr. Met (the groom is a die-hard NY Mets fan), and they topped it all off with a Momofuki wedding cake!

A Classic San Fran Wedding Done Ohhhh-So-Right

You know what’s better than one amazing San Fran celebration? THREE amazing San Fran celebrations. Think a jazz-infused welcome party, a relaxing spa night and one seriously stunning ballroom wedding boasting rows of sophisticated orchids and uber-sweet details.  See every beautiful moment designed by Mathes and Co. Events + captured by Josh Gruetzmacher in THE VAULT right here.

From Mathes and Co. Events… Mary Lucille and Robert had originally wanted to get married at the bride’s family ranch in Texas, however, scheduling did not seem to work. When the groom’s job sent him to San Francisco, they decided they would hold the wedding in their new hometown and create a destination event for their wedding guests. San Francisco has become such a meaningful city to them that they wanted to share it with their closest family and friends.

Mary Lucille has a keen sense of design and knew exactly what she wanted the wedding to look like—elegant yet understated, a formal affair where her guests could dine and truly enjoy one another’s company.

Because everyone would be traveling in town, they decided to have a three-day event. Thursday was a more intimate rehearsal dinner at Boulevard Restaurant for immediate family and the wedding party.

On Friday morning, the bridal party and a few close family friends were invited to the Penthouse at the Fairmont Hotel for a Bridal Luncheon. The invitation was entitled “Bubbles and Bathrobes” with loungewear encouraged. Guests were treated to manicures, pedicures and massages while enjoying lunch.

On Friday evening, all guests were invited to the Penthouse at the Fairmont, San Francisco for a welcome party. The menu consisted of family recipes, as well as passed and stationed food. A jazz trio consisting of saxophones and bass played for guests.

The wedding ceremony was held at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church. Fr. Emmanuel Taylor, O.P. presided. The bride was given away by her mother, Barbara Jeanne Murchison Coffman. The bride had five attendants, and the groom had five attendants as well. After the ceremony, guests lined the steps of the church and threw rose petals as the bride and groom departed in a classic Rolls Royce.

After the ceremony, guests rode in San Francisco Cable Cars from the church to the reception venue. A cocktail hour followed, with guests enjoying a raw seafood bar with oysters on the half shell, cracked crab, clams, shrimp and smoked salmon.

When the ballroom doors opened, guests enjoyed a seated 3-course meal with a choice entrée. After dinner, the bride and groom danced to “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” which was played by KJ and the All Stars.

When originally discussing the wedding, the bride had wanted to get married at her family’s ranch in Texas. Because the event moved to San Francisco, we found ways to incorporate the ranch/family in subtle ways throughout the evening. Each of the ivory dinner napkins were embroidered with the “7L” ranch brand in off white. The same logo can be seen around the perimeter of the save the date.

The bride’s family has a beautiful collection of art, and Mary Lucille decided she would like to incorporate some of these pieces into the wedding. We enlisted Samuel Granado Photography to visit both Mrs. Coffman’s home as well as the ranch, and photograph and reprint Mary Lucille’s favorite pieces. All of these pieces were displayed throughout the ballroom/cocktail hour at the event, with a directory of the pieces printed on the back of the menu.

Jackson Durham, a Dallas-based floral company was brought in to coordinate the design and floral of the event. The ballroom was styled with phalaenopsis orchids as well as a gold leafed magnolia, garden roses, peonies, café au lait dahlias, ranunculus, anemones and cattalaya orchids. Kentia palm trees lined the walls of the side of the room.

The bridal bouquet was made of white cattalaya orchids with a thin handle wrapped in an ivory lace over champagne satin ribbon. The bridesmaids carried bouquets of all taupe garden roses cuffed with gold leafed camellia leaves and bound in taupe velvet ribbon. The groom’s boutonniere was made of a gardenia with leaf detail and tied in a taupe ribbon

Printed pieces were important to the bride and groom. Once the reception venue was selected (The Julia Morgan Ballroom) elements of the space were subtly incorporated into the printed pieces. The wedding invitation liner mimics the ceiling of the space, bringing the look and feel of the event full circle.

The bride wore a Vera Wang gown and custom Vera Wang veil. The dress, known as the Hilary, has many intricate layers of Italian lace known as Guipure. Although the dress has a simple silhouette, it was the different layers of detail and texture that drew Mary Lucille to this dress. Her shoes were Jimmy Choo. Mary Lucille changed into a lace sheath dress by Phillip Lim dress and Valentino high heels for the after party.

The groom wore a custom Isaia tuxedo and his father’s shoes for the ceremony. He changed into John Lobb oxfords for the reception.

From Brandi… I would say I was influenced by the land for overall style of the home. Designing a home around the space you are given is always a priority. I would say the who was my 3 year old son who was 2 at the time was a big factor in the way it was designed and decorated.

We love the family room. It’s so versatile. We have great storage under the TV where we store toys and books and puzzles. So this room gets a lot of play time. We also have the built in bench with table where we enjoy breakfast with cartoons. There is also the comfy couch surrounded by family photos and great memories.

We love this house and wouldn’t change a thing. We live in this house, every room is truly lived it And loved! But if I was going to pick one room I was especially happy with it would be Parker’s bathroom. I love the colors and the energy.

I did get a little DIY project from a pallet left over from the locker unit in Parker bathroom. It was just the perfect size for a little day bed so I added 4 red casters and found the perfect foam top for it at a local craft store. It’s pretty perfect.

Elegant Newcastle Golf Club Wedding

I don’t know about you, but I just so happen to believe that a little unexpected weather on your big day is totally romantic. Take this stunning celebration from Christine Clark as proof. Because even though their newlywed portraits weren’t covered in sunshine, it just goes to show that a little mist can make your pictures all the more memorable. See it all for yourself in The Vault!

From Christine ClarkeMisty elegance. This is how I would describe Frankie and Will’s Seattle wedding. The light misting rain added a soft light, and romantic mood to their beautiful affair. Frankie was the picture of understated elegance in her BHLDN gown and undone hair. Organic florals added a textured, artistic touch, while Will’s dark tux was the perfected sophisticated match. The misty views across Newcastle Golf Club were utter romance and dreams, while bright flowers across the grounds punctuated the muted weather. It was a day full of laughter, sweetness, and joy, set in classic Washington style.

The Bride’s Dress Once Belonged to the Wife of Nat King Cole!

See this beaded vintage dress the bride rocked at the reception? It’s a dress that previously belonged to the wife of music legend, Nat King Cole. It was the ultimate “something old” for a vintage-inspired wedding and set the tone for an unforgettable day planned by Sapphire Events. More (including a must-see cake by Melissa’s Fine Pastries) in the gallery of images from Greer Gattuso.

From Sapphire EventsAfter weeks of rain and dreary days in New Orleans, Elizabeth and Nick said “I Do” on the first clear day of Spring. Being that both of them are New Orleans natives, the two did their first look in the heart of the city, the New Orleans French Quarter. From there, the couple made their way uptown to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for a small ceremony in front of their family and friends. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a cocktail hour complete with a Bubbly bar in the back gardens of the Audubon Tea Room. Upon the completion of cocktail hour, guests entered the Audubon Tea Room they were greeted by pops of the wedding color, light blue, perfectly mimicking the cloudless, Spring sky. The light blue and white lace linens were accented with an array of pink and white flower centerpieces. At the end of the reception, Elizabeth changed into a beaded vintage dress that had previously belonged to the late wife of Nat King Cole. In true New Orleans fashion, Elizabeth and Nick, along with a New Orleans Brass Band, led guests through the Audubon Zoo in a second line to celebrate the start of their lives together.

From Kristin La Voie PhotographyCaitlin and Jason had me all smiles from morning to night with their stunning Chicago wedding! The morning started with a tearful first look with Caitlin and her Daddy, followed by sentimental gifts she gave both her parents. I admit I was shooting it all through blurry, watery eyes. We had the perfect weather for photos at Olive Park, inside their stunning church, and ended at Bridgeport Art Center’s Sculpture Garden. I love shooting in this space, and with this couple and their sweet family and friends, it was even better than ever!

From The Bride…My husband and I just recently got married at a destination wedding in Bali, Indonesia at the magnificent Khayangan Estate on June 3, 2016.

We met at a restaurant in Los Angeles called Fig and Olive when my husband, Max Loong, was in town. He is a TV presenter, actor and host in Southeast Asia and Switzerland as well as a resort owner in Bali called Hidden Hills Villas and has to travel quite a bit for work. I am a Producer holding a Juris Doctorate degree with an emphasis in entertainment. The day after we met he was actually leaving town for work, which allowed us to speak on the phone for 3 weeks getting to know one another.

My initial thought of him was that he was handsome, an exotic mix of Malaysian and Swiss and very confident. I love confidence in a man and that stood out. He also had the most heart melting smile I have ever seen. He says his initial reaction was that he found me very attractive and completely his type, but what made him fall in love with me is my kind heart and how I care and feel for others. That I can’t kill an ant, and literally have to pick it up to put it outside, or when I see an old man sitting by himself I start crying. We also both make each other laugh and can be completely ourselves, goofy and silly around one another, without having to think twice!

Since I was planning the wedding from Los Angeles there were a few challenges. The time difference and different pace at which those in the tropics work being the main issues. I’m a perfectionist and knew that we wanted our wedding to be interactive and have a lot of entertainment elements, so coming up with creative and unique ideas was really important to us. We also knew from the get go that we wanted Travel to be our theme since it was not only a destination wedding, but over the past 3 years travel has been a big part of our lives and still very much is. Lighting is also something that we knew, as producers, enhances the environment incredibly, so we wanted to ensure a lot of lights and candles to set the magical ambience for our family and friends. We came across a vendor that provided this really unique service where they make oversized paper flowers that look like they are growing from the ground. We felt that was a really original idea and different, so made sure that was implemented for a backdrop, against lights, for anyone that wanted a photo op. Planning this wedding was so much work for me. It was done over the course of a year. I am a very detail oriented and know what I like, so spent a lot of time researching, coming up with ideas, and figuring out ways to make the wedding more “entertaining” for our guests, as we felt this is what people remember the most. All in all, they say renovating a home and planning a wedding can be two of the most stressful times of your life, but we did it and are very happy with the turn out. In the end, the time and effort is worth it.

On the wedding day I wore two stunning gowns by haute couture designer Inbal Dror. The ceremony dress was a blush corset, fit and flare gown with a long immaculate train that was a classy and sexy look. It had incredible detail on the dress with white lace and light beading. The reception dress was also by Inbal Dror, and it was a long sleeved, white, intricate fully beaded dress with the most incredible design and detail on the back. It had a plunging v neck, with flowy and loose fabric on the front providing an ethereal and elegant look.

Our theme was “travel” and we had some really unique and creative elements that surrounded travel, both Max and I are producers and TV presenter/hosts so wanted to ensure production value on our wedding day. We started off with the invitations to our guests being Passports. On the wedding day we incorporated PAN AM style stewardesses at the “check-in” desk as our guests arrived, where they handed Boarding Passes to each person which designated their Table Seating (named after countries that my husband and I have visited). The Boarding Passes were personalized individually to have the “Departure” country each of our guests were departing from with their “Arrival” all being Bali. Our guest sign in book was two painted floral globes in our color palette with pastel luggage holding vintage postcards that our guests could sign and leave messages for us on. Behind this vignette we had stubs, boarding passes, pamphlets, etc. from all of our travels over the past 3 years hanging from the ceiling. During the cocktail hour we had a very large “Arrival” sign, with various countries on it, designed and decorated to go along with all of our stationery where people were able to rip off the right side of their boarding pass, fill in their information, and drop it into a slit on the large board for a lottery.

We also had fireworks that went off in the middle of our first dance that were stunning to watch as well as a local Kecak dance of 30 performers that suddenly came out on stage once the lights faded to black. The performers were a highlight. Absolutely entertaining and one of the more traditional cultural dances that guests want to see when they are in Bali.

Our color palette was blush, creams, light yellows, white, greenery with a pop of gold. We wanted an elegant wedding with a lot of lights and candles, and most importantly great performances. After all the speeches, cake cutting and dinner, Max and I went on the stage to introduce the transition into party mode and told our guests we had a surprise for them. They were all going to get “shots”. That was the DJ’s cue to play the “Shots” song by LMFAO, where bartenders suddenly walked out and handed glowing shots to everyone as pyrotechnics went off around the stage to signify PARTY MODE!

We had several videos that played throughout the night. One which was our Same Day Edit, that was a stunner (link at the bottom of this email) that everyone absolutely loved and still can’t stop talking about to date. It’s impressive when a company can turn around a beautifully edited piece on the day in just 45 minutes. We had Max’s family provide us a surprise video from all the cousins on their side, and one of the more important videos which is very dear to our hearts is the remembrance video of Max’s father that passed away and wasn’t able to be with us on the day. This was an incredibly emotional moment, as you can imagine, but extremely beautiful to honor him in this way.

The wedding day was spectacular. It was incredible, emotional, beautiful, fun and entertaining all in one. One of the stand out special moments was my brother’s speech. It was the most hilarious speech I have heard in my life. He actually somehow found my diary from when I was a kid and decided to read it openly to our guests, creatively integrating it with our life now. The things that I wrote when I was 7 or 8 years old were hilarious. Of course, mainly about boys! …which led to me finally meeting my incredible handsome husband (still feels so weird to say “husband”)!

We had received SO many compliments on the wedding and that it had all of the elements necessary, which was incredibly flattering to hear. Those words really made us feel great when it came to the end, as it justified all the time and hard work spent leading up to the big day. We actually had 4 events surrounding our wedding, from our Welcome Party/BBQ at Hidden Hills Villas, Chinese Tea Ceremony, the wedding and an all white beach party at Karma Beach the following night.

From Peter and Veronika… While planning our very first Workshop this past spring we found the inspiration for the editorial theme in the venue place itself. With its long and interesting history, the manor house of Brunswick family in Dolna Krupa is forever bound with the name of the greatest composer of all time, Ludwig van Beethoven. He visited the manor and composed his beautiful piano masterpiece Moonlight Sonata here. Ludwig dedicated this song to his secret love of his life, Josephine von Brunswick, to whom he sent several love letters and called her his ‘only beloved’ and ‘my angel, my all, my very self’. It was a truly beautiful story of an unfulfilled love.

The Sonata itself also inspired the color scheme of our editorial. Moonlight tones of serenity, grey, royal blue, black, silver and gold were used with the decorations, flower arrangements, calligraphy and also with the dress. It made everything look magical, just like the moonlight sky!

From Ponk Rentals… When Veronika mentioned that the manor house where the workshop was going to take place is reportedly the place where Beethoven composed his moonlight sonata we immediately started to think silver, silver grey and shades of blue and completely reworked the mood board. Our aim was to create a rich decor that would complement the strict forms of the building, which is a rather fine example of classicist architecture, but would yet be delicate and fragile to convey the eerie atmosphere of a moonlight reflecting on the water surface. We used Victoria Ghost chairs because they perfectly unite these two aspects and did not take away focus from the manor and the decor, vintage silver charger plates and flatware, very exquisite platinum rim champagne glasses and silk runners from Orchidee de Soie in different shades of blue and grey. Napkins were made from a very fine batiste to add more lightness to the whole scheme. From the beginning we wanted to create very rich florals to acknowledge the manor’s rose garden reputation. One of the countesses was known as “Rose Countess” and had a rosarium with more than 6,000 roses and a complete collection of north countries roses. Flowers were in different shades of white only and it work well with shades of grey, silver and blue accent of the decor and a beautifully faded nude paint on the manor house. The bright green leaves of a fig and kiwi trees we used in the flower arrangements were the only vibrant aspect of the whole concept to bring it alive.

From Martina Lyons… My inspiration was the Chateau love story and “serenity” itself. It is just a beautiful word. It is exactly the color that I imagined. With a drop of beautiful moon gold dust on handmade serenity blue paper it is a perfect amount of romanticism. And all the love coming from Ludwig van Beethoven´s love letter to his Josephine, his Immortal Beloved…

You Would Never Guess that 3 Kids Live in this Home!

With twin toddlers, the sea of brightly colored toys is a real struggle. I’m constantly looking for inspiration on how to hide the fact that we are single handedly keeping Fisher-Price in business. This home definitely gives me hope. Designed for a father of three, it’s cozy and welcoming but with a seriously stylish edge. See how Lexi Westergard Design made this design savvy house a home with even more in the VAULT.

This is a home that I designed for a single dad and his 3 kids. He wanted a home that was very kid friendly and a place he could hang out with his kids. They are a very active family that loves to be outdoors. The dad use to race cars for a living.

He literally had about 7 pieces of furniture that was coming from his previous home. So we wanted to make sure it feel like he collected pieces over time and didn’t look like a stale model home. My client had a front room that he wanted to make into a hang out for his kids and their friends. It is a long and narrow space so we broke it up into two sections.

A place for them to play video games and watch movies, then a place for them to play board games or do home work.

Because it is the first room you see when you walk into the house we wanted to be kid friendly while still looking good.

The breakfast nook already had a built-in banquette, we painted it white to lighten up the space. We also added trim and custom roman shades.

The family room is off of the kitchen and the only requirement was to have a leather sectional. We painted the fireplace to lighten up and added trim around the windows.

We wanted the master bedroom to be a place for relaxing. We achieved that by having a neutral palette with some blue(which if you ask me blue is a neutral)

We also painted all the trim white to brighten up the room. The master has french doors that go out to the backyard and there is gorgeous preserve behind their house, so we added a chair for reading and relaxing.

The boys share a room, they love the beach and spend the summers in California. So we wanted a room that had a beach vibe without being too theme-y.

The wallpaper is a very cool abstract wave pattern and was the jumping off point for the design. We adding some coastal accessories and some baskets for storage.

For the little girls room we wanted it to be fun and whimsical. The Caitlin Wilson wallpaper was the perfect starting point. With touches of purple(her favorite color) and gold to pull it all together.

The Coziest Fall Engagement in New York City

You’ve seen the interior design work of Veronica Valencia over on SMP Living, but today she’s stepping in front of the camera as a New York bride-to-be. Love Ala captured Veronica and Kris’ adventures through the city, and if you ask me this gallery is all the cozy, autumn inspiration you’ll ever need.

From the bride, Veronica Valencia… I think about my life before Kris and then I think about my life after Kris and the only way to accurately equate that transition is to night and day. When we met, that is truly when my life started. A workaholic interior designer, working in the television industry was what I lived for. So when I was offered the opportunity of taking a job on a four month design show in New York, I went. I remember it clear as day. Landing on a red eye at JFK I drove into Jersey where our production offices were. Kris immediately ran out and introduced himself to me. (Apparently he fell out of his chair when I walked by his office, but you didn’t hear that from me ;) He was kind, with a huge smile and a NY cap on. He listened to Frank Sinatra when he drove our crew to the subway. He was patient and had this excitement in his step…. An energy that I unknowingly, completely gravitated towards more and more every day. He was special.

32 days after meeting, we fell in love. It only took 32 days. Kris born and raised in the Bronx is the epitome of a New Yorker. He had recently purchased an apartment in Manhattan, his whole life in the city… And then I happened. He leaped. We both leaped. With both feet in the air, we took a chance on each other.

Cut to 4 years later, Kris and I have created a life on both the East and West Coast that I do not take for granted. When we met, the crazy creative in me had all of these ideas and dreams, and the business savvy, practical Kristopher and I merged forces. We started our version of a modern day design company. We honestly just wanted to do life together. I don’t think it mattered what career path it was. Working towards our future was the main priority, whatever that was destined to be… And we haven’t stopped. We live together. We work together. We problem solve together. We celebrate and dream together. We evolve together. More importantly we love together.

PROPOSAL STORY

After Kris and I worked on a TV show in Atlanta last summer, my family had decided on taking a long over due family trip to New York. We were so excited to introduce our families and show my parents around our neighborhood.

I’m not going to lie, him proposing during this trip definitely crossed my mind. When my family arrived, I obsessively thought about it, however a day in Central Park and 3 days into the trip nothing happened. So, I stopped thinking and started to enjoy all of the moments we were creating….. Then BAM! In the middle of Manhattan, in his high school church, with only my family, he walked me up to the alter and popped the question. The church is SO beautiful. It honestly felt as if we were in a different country! With incredible Neo-Baroque architectural details, St. Francis Xavier Church was founded in the 1800’s and designed by an incredible Brooklyn based architect. The designer in me was even more overwhelmed! You felt the history. You felt the love. You felt it all! I cried and was so overwhelmed with emotions.

Every thing was kind of in slow motion from there. My siblings were in on it, my mom wasn’t so she fell to her knees crying, we all died of laughter and then my dad took us all to a Mets/Dodgers game. We ended the night with a private party at the Frying Pan, a 1920’s, previously abandoned 133 foot boat overlooking the Hudson River. We celebrated till the sun came up with our New York family! Magical is an understatement.

ENGAGEMENT SHOOT

Kris and I are around cameras and photographers a majority of the year and we know the importance of documenting moments. Having someone special capture us in our element was #1. Ala Cortez of Love Ala has been a long time, dear friend of mine. The goal for our engagement shoot was simple. We wanted to spend it like any other weekend. Wake up at the crack of dawn (who am I kidding! I like my sleep)… Well for this special day we woke up before the sun came up, got ready and went about our typical Sunday. We wanted to spend this special day, doing exactly what we do every Sunday. Only this time we have our talented friend capturing every moment.

Our NY home is one block from the High Line and whenever we are in town, we spend every weekend walking this elevated garden path from Chelsea to the Meat Packing District. We love to stop at The Standard Grill and have a cup of coffee to start the day. Next we walk through the cobble stone streets of the West Village where Kris worked in his early 20’s. He has the most memorable night life stories….. I swear he is the best tour guide, but then again I’m bias.. The quaint downtown streets are beautiful and have so much character! Lastly, we always 100% end our mornings and start our afternoon at easily the #1 brunch spot in Manhattan…. COOKSHOP! We are so obsessed, it’s a problem. It’s always our first and last meal when we come in and out of New York. Capturing moments here were important to us because they embody the essence of Kris and I.

We love traveling, we love road trips, we love brunching and cocktails and we love being around a bustling community. I am certain there is nothing better than enjoying conversations with loved ones, over a sizzling plate of huevo rancheros, accompanied by spicy margaritas and bloody marys that remind you of how amazing life can be.

One may think the shoot seems staged, but it truly was us in our element. I look at them every day and it tickles me with excitement in anticipation of our future. I can’t wait to be that old couple showing our grandchildren all of the fun we had as young adults. Maybe it will inspire them to go and embrace each day like their grandparents did in “the good ol’ days”. Maybe it will show them that true love does and always will exist.
