Nature’s Perfect Cathedral at Hilton Head Island

“Nature’s perfect cathedral” is how this bride describes her gorgeous, Hilton Head Island venue – Honey Horn Plantation – and we think that’s exactly right. With beautiful bridesmaids dressed in pink and purple hued Jenny Yoo dresses and well-suited groomsmen by their sides, this couple wed beneath the most majestic and iconic Virginia Live Oaks, draped in Spanish moss. With bridal portraits on the boardwalk and the reception under a pavilion overlooking the scenic salt march, there’s so much more natural beauty to behold in the gallery by Amy Arrington Photography.

From the Bride… I feel so fortunate to say that there isn’t one thing that I would change about our wedding day. Honey Horn Plantation provided nature’s perfect cathedral for our ceremony and reception. Luckily, the rain waited until later that night and provided a welcomed break from the heat that built throughout the day. During the planning process, one of the most important aspects for me and my husband was the music. Our band did not disappoint, and they had everyone dancing the night away. I am so glad that we have wonderful pictures to look back at as the day seemed to fly by – a blur of happiness, love, and laughter.

Pops of Citrus for a Fresh Take on a Summer Wedding

We love the fresh interpretation LOLA Event Productions took on this summery, Chicago wedding. Between the bride’s romantic gown with a pretty illusion neckline, the bridesmaids in flowing, peachy dresses, and the pop of citrus throughout the florals, it hit all the right, warm-weather notes. From LOLA Event ProductionsMaddie and Patrick wanted their July wedding at Skyline Loft to be welcoming, fresh, and summery. That’s exactly what we gave them. The day started out at the Palmer House Hilton in the heart of the city. Hair and makeup for the girls, and fresh, hot shaves for the guys. Talk about a morning of pampering!

Photos continued as Maddie and Patrick made their way to the stunning elevator bank of the hotel. It was a perfect backdrop for the sweetest first look you could imagine. The wedding party made their way around town to have a little fun in front of the camera. Finally, they arrived just in time to head up the classic elevator of the Bridgeport Art Center and down the garland lined aisle of the Skyline Loft.

The only things more stunning than the suspended ceremony arbor were the bride and groom found below it. With tons of textural greenery and pops of citrus, the flowers and farm tables created the perfect backdrop for their family style dinner menu. The suspended ceremony piece made the perfect accent for the head table décor during the reception, while the menu provided by Limelight catering was fresh and colorful. Café lights overhead were the perfect finishing touch to the dance floor to truly give the guests the experience of a Chicago summer night.

5 Easy Upgrades for the Ultimate Bedroom Retreat

At the end of the day, nothing beats sinking into a cozy bed and tuning out the world. But if that bed is hard as a rock or a hand-me-down ten years past its prime, all visions of drifting off to sleep can be kissed goodbye. Fear not, my friends, we teamed up with the Master’s of the Best Night Sleep, Leesa Mattress, to showcase simple tricks for whipping your bedroom into a sleep haven. It should be the most calm, serene spot in your home, after all, and with a few easy upgrades it will totally take top billing in the comfort department.

Invest in a Great Mattress

The foundation of a really amazing bed (you know the one that you just can’t bare to get out of in the morning) starts with that mattress and it’s the most important investment by far. You can save on the little accents or DIY your way to a cute side table a la our navy blue sidekicks but when it comes to that mattress? Splurge as much as your budget will allow! The Leesa mattress is the perfect option because it is luxury quality at a seriously great price-point. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that they’re offering Style Me Pretty readers a $75 discount – just use code SMP at checkout.

And if you’re like most savvy shoppers these days, spending time at a mattress store is not high on the priority list. Leesa has you covered in that department too. Buy online and a pretty little box arrives right at your doorstep ready to rumble.

Literally you unwrap and let it fluff for an hour and you are ready to go. No delivery fees, no borrowing somebody’s truck to haul, no crazy lifting and zero chemical smells. That’s because Leesa is made with highest quality American made materials and expertly crafted for your best night’s sleep. Click here to see for yourself what goes in to the making of a Leesa mattress.

The design geek in me LOVES this mattress and the cozy connoisseur in me does too. Not only is it pretty enough to go bare with its iconic 4 stripes but it has the comfort and quality to back up all that beauty. We’re talking a mattress so pretty, you don’t even need sheets.

Step Up Your Sheet Game

But if you must cover that gorgeous Leesa mattress, do so with a bevy of quality sheets. Bed linens come in all colors, materials and thread counts. And they are a fun way to add a splash of color or personality but remember to keep it cozy. Linen is perfect – cool in the summer, warm in the winter and a classic base. Or a high thread count cotton set works great too. Adding a good arsenal to your linen closet will mean your bed is always looking gorgeous and just adds to that dreamy, retreat like feel.

The Pretty Layer

The pretty layer is my favorite layer. Things like a fun lumbar pillow, art and tassel throws will really add a finished feel to the space. It’s those accents that breathe beauty into your bedroom and make it a spot you don’t want to leave. When you have the basics covered, start to sprinkle in the beautiful details and get ready to watch your Master Bedroom get all Instagram-worthy right before your eyes.

Don’t Forget the Little Luxuries

Your favorite candle, a framed picture of your greatest loves, fresh flowers – those things that really make your soul happy belong smack dab on that nightstand. I love seeing my favorite bits and bobbles first thing in the morning and last thing before I go to sleep.

Throw Some Shade

Proper window treatments are key. Light is lovely and all until you’re trying to sleep. So make like a luxury hotel and cover those windows with blackout shades plus drapery for that pretty effect. We live on a lively road and have large, sunny windows so this step was life changing. The second we properly outfitted our windows it was a whole different ballgame.

So are you ready to breath a little luxury and beauty into your Master Bedroom? Start with the Leesa mattress and you’ll be well on your way to hotel-like retreat where the best sleep ever comes with the territory. Click here to shop the Leesa Mattress and try their 100 day risk-free trial.

This Gorgeous Inspiration is Giving us Major Enchanted Forest Vibes

Inspired by a changing of seasons and the prettiest spring blooms, this team of vendors crafted a shoot that is giving us all the enchanted forest vibes. What does that entail you ask? Think lush ombre blooms by Layered Vintage, paired with moody gray tablescape and romantic black tapered candles all crafted by Luna Wild Designs. It also entails two romantic bridal looks with flowing gowns and no shoes required. Get inspired to bring a little wild forest beauty to your upcoming day with stunning imagery captured by Carmen Santorelli.

People ask what season is your favorite and I never reply back with a typical answer. For me, the most beautiful time of year is actually the time between seasons… As Winter slowly melts and gives way to Spring. This was the inspiration behind our collaboration. To capture the new growth of Spring and the subtle hints that Winter had left behind. Luna Wild Design dreamt up a not so typical ombré for a palette with the darker grey hues of Winter moving into cream and ending with a blush pink Spring. This can be seen in the gradual shade changes of the place settings by Hostess Haven and paired florals by Layered Vintage. Our team was able to capture two Bridal looks and tell nature’s story with a transition from dark to light.

The Most Romantic Wedding Inspired by the Couple’s Heritage

When this couple dreamed up their wedding, they knew they wanted their heritage to inspire the day. Boy did their amazing team of vendors execute! High Society Event Planning worked with La Tavola Fine Linen Rental, Casa de Perrin, Found Vintage Rentals, and so many more talented professionals to create a Spanish paradise at Rancho Las Lomas. From the Peruvian blue tiles and hand painted terra cotta to the custom papel picado banner (which was also represented on the invitation suite), every detail was thoughtfully chosen. From High Society EventsFrom the very beginning of the wedding planning process, Marina and Jose knew that they wanted their heritage to play a big role in the overall feel of their wedding. Rancho Las Lomas could not have been a more perfect location to allow guests to feel they had been whisked away to a private oasis rich with Spanish influence. From the bright, festive florals to the integration of Peruvian blue tile and hand painted terra cotta, no detail was overlooked. A personal favorite was the papel picado specifically designed and constructed to display “Jose and Marina” serving as their “ceiling under the stars.” You can see by taking a peek at the top of the wedding cake that it was in fact, the BEST day EVER.

Palm Fronds for the Win at This Wilmington Wedding

This palm inspired Wilmington wedding at Bakery 105 just made my day. The pop of green on the pretty stationery, the velvet ring box, and the bridesmaids’ palm frond bouquets give a modern, summery vibe that’s hitting all the right notes in my book. And those getting ready robes! Seriously chic. Olivia Suriano of Nancy Ray Photography captured it all brilliantly – despite the rain! – so dig into the gallery right here.

From Olivia Suriano of Nancy Ray PhotographyWhen Laura and Eric’s wedding day called for rain, I was not one bit worried. With Eric’s easy going personality and Laura’s exquisite taste and talent for interior design, I knew these two would take the rain and make something incredible out of it!

Their combination or personalities went together seamlessly at their wedding. Eric looked extra dapper in his white dinner jacket, and Laura stole the show in her Sarah Seven gown. Even with all of the beautiful details, these two were so smitten with each other you couldn’t help but just stare at them the whole day. From the beginning of the wedding planning to their big day, Laura and Eric made each of their vendors feel like close friends, and it was such an honor to capture their day!

This Wedding Had a Surprise Performance by Leigh Nash!

In general, no one likes a wedding crasher. Unless of course, that wedding crasher happens to be singer and songwriter, Leigh Nash of Sixpence None the Richer. The groom surprised his bride by flying in Leigh for a wedding day performance as a nod back to one of their most special dates seeing her in concert. Our friends at Focused Bliss Productions perfectly captured it on film, and all that’s left to do is kick back and press play.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/198882389 600 338]

From Focused Bliss Productions John and Cristin met seven years ago in Vermont where they both grew up, so it was only appropriate for them to hold their wedding back in the place that they both call home.

They started the day with their preparations just doors apart at the Hermitage Inn surrounded by the colorful foliage, seasonal pumpkins, and fall decor.

Just before officially tying the knot, John – being the more emotional one of the two – could not hold back his tears and smiles as he turned around to view Cristin in her beautiful dress for the first time outside of the houses where they got ready.

The ceremony following this was just as equally emotional as they exchanged their personal vows to one another at Saw Mill Farms Inn under a picturesque birch arbor that faced a tranquil lake.

To top of the day, they then moved the party to the Hermitage Club, a resort used as a ski lodge during the winter season. Little did Cristin know, but John had a big surprise in store at the end of the night in which he flew in Leigh Nash of the band Sixpence None the Richer to provide a personal performance to them and their guests.

This was very meaningful for the two as Leigh Nash was, in fact, the performer that John and Cristin had seen at their first concert together – which was the same day on which John knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Cristin.

Carving Out a Beautiful Home Office Space in Tribeca

While New York City is notorious for teeny tiny apartments, Mary Orton of Memorandum is living large in her Tribeca digs and with the help of Joss & Main her new home office is a study in all things eclectic and chic. Tour her pretty, pretty space captured by Nicole Gerulat and get the details on her fashion infused inspiration with a fun q & a with Joss and Main below!

Walk us through your new space. What do you love most?

From a design perspective, the space is quite eclectic, which I love. It’s a mélange of masculine, feminine, mid-century modern, art deco, transitional, traditional and even some industrial pieces, with lots of really personal touches as well. I think the balance that is created when pairing competing styles (masculine and feminine, old and new, delicate and bold) makes for a very interesting space, and really gets my creative juices flowing. In both color and design, it’s a true extension of my personal style, so I feel very at home in the room. Sprinkling the office with so many things that I love—whether it’s a Richard Avedon photograph of Katharine Hepburn, my favorite Dickens novels, a collection of my favorite Santiago Calatrava masterpieces or the beautiful masks that my husband and I brought back from our honeymoon travels in South Africa— it makes for a true sanctuary where I can really focus and get things done.

What was your design strategy? Where did you begin?

I think the “where to begin” question is always the most daunting for people, so before solidifying any specific plan for the room, I always think it’s best to find two or three pieces that you absolutely LOVE. They can be as small and random as a brightly colored shoebox or as large and imposing as a cool dresser—anything that you find beautiful and exciting. In my case, I fell in love with this burlwood dining table and oriental rug. Typically, neither would be ideal selections for this office space because the room is too large for the small 5’x8’ rug and the space needed a desk not a dining table! However, by starting with pieces that really inspired me, I was able to get creative. I came up with the idea to layer a larger area rug under the small oriental rug, which worked out beautifully because the it really underscores the central desk area as the room’s focal point. For the dining table, I realized that taking out the extension leaf made it just the perfect oversized desk I was looking for—an area where I can really spread out and be productive. Since the table of course didn’t have any desk drawers, I found a nightstand that fits perfectly beneath the table where I can store pens, extra cords and office supplies.

Bottom line—once you have a few pieces that you’re really excited about, you can fill in the rest of the space around them and the room will really start to come alive and take shape.

Was there anything you absolutely didn’t want?

I wanted the space to be a true reflection of my personal style, and didn’t want it to feel “cookie cutter” in any way. The room is quite masculine, with lots of touches of femininity, but I didn’t want anything “girly.” And, as you can see, I really love color! I definitely didn’t go for the stark look.

It’s clear you have a knack for fashion. How does your personal style translate to the design of your home?

I wanted the office to be somewhat consistent with the decor in the rest of our home, but I also really wanted it to remain a singular, creative space. In the end, I think it is certainly aligned with my personal style which I would describe as a mix of classic and polished with a dash of edge and quirk.

What’s the key to creating a functional, inspiring office space?

Most days, you will find me running from meeting to meeting—speaking with investors and potential collaborators—or having conference calls and team meetings at our Trove offices in SoHo—the hustle is real! But since the work of an entrepreneur is far beyond typical 9-to-5 hours, it’s critical to have a dedicated space at home where I can continue to work. Whether I’m working late into the night or weekend, I designed it to especially to keep my energy up and creative juices flowing, which is why you see pops of color throughout. I definitely did not want the space to feel too retiring. For instance, take the desk: while I was inspired by the striking burlwood and the desk’s sleek lines, I also really wanted something that was oversized where I could spread things out when working, so the small dining table made that dream a reality. Plus, it’s nice to sit down at something substantial that can accommodate my large computer monitor while still allowing for space to review mock-ups with our design team, work on our editorial calendar, write a thank you note, or place a coffee cup (mission critical for the long hours!).

On your blog, you stress the importance of dressing appropriately for your work environment. What is your ideal work outfit?

It varies widely across industry, geography and roles, but for me personally, I’m a blazer fanatic, so my “ ideal” or go-to work outfit often involves a classic blazer and wide leg trousers. I also have more midi dresses than I’d like to admit, and there’s nothing easier or more comfortable than throwing on a classic midi for a long day at the office.

Pulling together a room—easier or more challenging than pulling together a professional wardrobe?

I’m an interior design junkie, so I absolutely love both! However, I think there’s a bit more pressure when designing a room, because unlike your outfit, you can’t just change the whole thing tomorrow! But, I strongly believe that form and function can seamlessly co-exist, whether you’re looking for great workwear pieces, or decorating your home. Find pieces that you find inspiring and exciting, and find creative ways to make them work for you. Especially when it comes to creating your own unique space, as evidenced by this room, I’m all for throwing convention out the door!

New York apartments are notoriously tiny. What are your tips for making the most of limited square footage?

Again, I think it’s all about thinking creatively with the space you have. For instance, due to the fact that I also run style blog Memorandum, I have an inordinate amount of clothing and accessories coming in and out of the apartment. The existing closet space in our home simply wasn’t adequate so to remedy this, I made one wall of my office this sort of exposed closet area where we mounted these wonderful industrial display units to create additional hanging space and storage. So, aside from trying to be the best possible Marie Kondo you can be in simplifying the amount of “ stuff” you need in your home, there are so many amazing storage solutions out there that can maximize space in every nook and cranny of your apartment. You just have to think outside the (small NYC) box.

A Texas Ranch Wedding Done So Right

Nobody knows how to host a rustic ranch wedding like a Texas couple. Just take Sarah and Shane, who planned their winter nuptials set in Dripping Springs. Sarah rocked the perfect gown from Blush Bridal Lounge and guests dined on long farm tables lined with greenery for a seasonal touch. Apryl Ann Photography captured the pretty and you can scroll on for every last bit.

From Apryl Ann PhotographySarah and Shane were married in December on a warm winter day in the hill country of Texas. I love their elegant yet understated details of eucalyptus, white vintage china, soft blue bridesmaid dresses, and gorgeous white florals. Sarah’s dress fit her like a glove and their first look was so incredibly sweet! They dined on long farm tables with mixed wooden chairs and danced under cafe lights, and their exit with white confetti is one of my favorites!

The Surprising Detail That Will Pull Your Whole Wedding Together

You’ve thought about the flowers, the dress, the decor, all the details that make a wedding feel special and you. But according to celebrity wedding planner Lisa Vorce, there’s one important detail you’re forgetting — the scent. After all, scent is known to trigger memory, so why not give your day a signature fragrance that will forever remind you of your big day!

Why is it important for a bride to think about scent on her wedding day?

Scent is an often overlooked but super important part of wedding design. The sense of smell is closely linked with both memory and emotions, so selecting a scent that you love for your wedding day can increase emotional bonds between you and your husband-to-be, and your guests. Your signature scent can also kindle happy wedding memories every time you wear it following the wedding day.

When planning her wedding, a bride should think about appealing to each of the 5 senses:

  • the look (from bridal gown to tabletop),
  • the feel (all of the textures of both the décor and attire),
  • the taste (from cocktails to dinner menus),
  • the sounds (from quartets to DJs) and finally,
  • the scent. Selecting a scent, whether with florals, and/or with a personal fragrance, helps to bond that signature scent with the special experiences and memories of the wedding day.

What are your favorite scents for brides today?

Brides should wear whatever scent makes them feel the most beautiful.  That being said, from my perspective, the process of choosing a fragrance is a bit like choosing a dress. It should reflect your personality, and also match the overall theme of your wedding. You should consider the season, the venue, the formality of the event, time of day, etc.

I’ve been recommending Ralph Lauren Collection as a go-to. There are ten totally different, super luxurious fragrances that represent various destinations around the world. Each fragrance is crafted around a singular scent emblematic of the setting it represents. White Lily is perfect for a classic, country-club wedding, Sage is perfect for a wedding in the mountains, and Lime or Orange Flower are amazing for warm-weather destination affairs – Tulum, Palm Beach.. you name it.

What factors should a bride consider when deciding on her personal fragrance for the big day?

Selecting a fragrance is a very personal decision – first and foremost a bride should think about her first reaction to smelling the fragrance – Do you love the scent? Does it evoke pleasant memories or feelings? Another way to think about fragrance is based on the type of bride you are…

  • For the Jetset Bride: This bride is interested in travel, and her wedding is a destination.  The best way to cater to her is to give her something that travels. As a jetsetter, she might be drawn to citrus fragrances that conjure up the sunny scents of the Riviera. Two favorites are Ralph Lauren’s Lime and Orange Flower.
  • For the Romantic Bride: More traditional in her wedding planning, this bride has envisioned her wedding since she was young.  Her wedding will be classic perfection. Romantic brides favor something classic like Ralph Lauren White Tea and Rose fragrances, which hearkens back to a romantic English elegance.
  • For the Urban Bride: Chic and fashion forward, this bride isn’t afraid of playing with color and trends to create a bridal event that is sure to be remembered.  City brides tend to enjoy fragrances with glamorous and robust notes. Two favorites are Ralph Lauren’s Vetvier and Magnolia.

What are some of your favorite flowers to naturally scent your wedding?

There are so many possibilities, but who can resist gardenias? Gardenias are as pretty as they are fragrant, and they bring so much joy to the bride, groom and guests as they walk into a room and experience the visual aesthetic of beautiful white bouquets anchored with a sweet, warm scent. For tropical weddings, Frangipani, or plumeria, is a must. The frangipani scent is a rich, lush floral – as soon as I smell it, I feel like I’m on a tropical island, even if I’m in my studio in Southern California. Alternatively, for more arid, rustic destinations, I might scent the wedding with greenery elements such as sage – sage has a natural, rugged quality that works well in mountainous or desert destination weddings.

What are some unexpected touches any couple can add to their wedding to make it unique?

I say this all the time, but to quote Shakespeare “To thine own self be true.” Couples need to think about and celebrate what makes them who they are. Is it tumbleweed from their hometown in Texas? Butter cookies from their favorite bakery in the Northeast? Did they meet playing volleyball on a beach in Southern California?

All of those particular experiences and traits can be added to the wedding to make it unique: Tumbleweed makes great art in a cocktail lounge set up. Favorite cookies make the best welcome gift for guests. And a volleyball game with hand painted t-shirts that say #bride or #groom makes for a super fun activity preceding the wedding.

When it comes to selecting your wedding theme or style, where should you start?

Again the bride needs to start with who she already is. She can start by looking inside her closet. What colors and textures does she wear? Or, she can look at her favorite room in her apartment or home. Does she reside in neutrals? Does she gravitate towards bold, jewel tones? Is she surrounded by beautiful object d’arts or lush, green houseplants? All of these things translate into wedding design – just on a much bigger scale.

What are some wedding trends you’re loving right now? Some you’d like to see disappear?

I honestly would like to see the word “trend” disappear from our vocabulary. Your wedding day is the day to be who you truly are – it’s about you. So, even if the latest Hollywood starlet just celebrated her wedding bohemian style on a beach in the Caribbean, if that isn’t your vibe, go with what makes your own heart sing. I love when my brides or grooms say, “Oh this is SO me!” Sometimes we will have the bride or groom surprise the other with something that is uniquely them. For example, we will work with the bride to stock the After-Party with jars of the groom’s favorite cookies or candy from childhood. The groom walks in to the After Party — with mood lighting and a great beat by the DJ, and then sees his favorite candy and cookies in the lounge vignettes – and it is just so much fun. That is what celebrations should be about – celebrating the most unique, special attributes of both the bride and groom!

A Blushing Pantone Themed Bridal Shower

The design lover in me can’t get enough of this perfectly hued shower. Crafted around Pantone’s famous color swatches, LA Party Stylists infused everything from the tablescape to the cookies with the prettiest palette.  And with Vanessa Tierney behind the lens, all that rose quartz and serenity are coming to life with image after lovely image. See even more of this poolside soirée right here.

We created a pantone themed bridal shower luncheon that incorporated pantone color swatches throughout the entire party: linens, custom chair pads, glassware, napkin tassels, and balloon garlands. For the party favors, we created custom notepads in the pantone colors with each guests names in calligraphy on the cover that doubled as a placecard and party favor. Each place setting also included a pantone color nail polish for each guest to take home. We also had a pantone theme dessert table featuring pantone paint chip cookies and more! For entertainment, we had a scent bar where each guest was asked to create their own scent and each bottle was wrapped in a custom label.

From Bliss ProductionsWhen was the last time you bought a little something for yourself just for the heck of it? Maybe it was a new pair of shoes or that purse you have been eyeing for months. Whatever it was, that little splurge made you happy, and even the sensible voice in your head agrees that you made a good purchase.

When planning a wedding, brides often feel the pressures of making their wedding day unique and special on a budget, which will sometimes mean having to compromise one thing for another. But just like buying that designer purse, brides should invest in something for their wedding that makes them happy, something that they have always dreamed about, a statement piece that gives their wedding that wow factor.

A statement piece could be anything from a stunning accent wall to an impressive dessert table or even a horse drawn carriage. This piece should encompass the overall theme of your wedding and show off your personality. It is the perfect additional touch to making your wedding truly unique! This piece will not only be special to you, but it will also blow your guests away by the time and thought that went into creating it. It will make for a great topic of conversation and an even better backdrop for all of those wedding pictures. After all, who doesn’t want their wedding photos to end up on Pinterest?

The most important thing to remember is to have fun with your statement piece and make it yours, that way it will really be worth the splurge.

9 First Dance Songs You Haven’t Heard A Million Times

Finding the perfect first dance song is no easy task. It can feel nearly impossible to avoid the clichés you’ve heard again and again, but luckily we’ve got Boston Common Band here to share a few ideas you’ve probably never considered. Think of this as your personal guide to first dance songs—with a twist.

From Boston Common BandOver the past year, we’ve seen the start of a new trend where brides and grooms have asked us to write a new arrangement of a fun pop song. For example, we’d play the song slowly for the first verse and chorus, then kick it up to a more upbeat version of the song to close it out.  It’s an excellent way to get that traditional first dance feel and also get your guests excited to start dancing with a little surprise tempo change!
