5 Tips to Kick Those Post-Wedding Blues

The adrenaline high of the wedding is over, and the honeymoon you planned for a year was amazing, but that has also come and gone!  To combat the possible post-wedding blues, try some of these tips!

Rebecca Yale Photography

Plan Something Well in Advance
Part of happiness is just the anticipation and the build up to joy! So once all the excitement of the wedding has calmed down, plan a new adventure! It can be something low-key, and just for the two of you, like a weekend road trip or a concert, or it could be a big family vacation! But make it something a few months down the road so you have time to look forward to it.

Establish a Routine
I take such pleasure from establishing a set routine that I get to enjoy doing every week, for me it’s relaxing in a cafe, and your new life as a married couple should be no different! Find something fun you both love to do and do it at the same time, all the time! It’s nice to find a shared activity you both look forward to, like visiting your parents every Sunday or meeting for lunch every Wednesday! Not only does it make you slow down and appreciate the little moments, it makes your new life feel that much more real.

Driven By Decor

De-Clutter Your Life
Honestly, nothing feels better than getting rid of old things you don’t need and don’t use anymore. I know it can be stressful, but ‘out with the old, in with the new’, right? Go through your closet and purge anything you do not completely love or feel represents your best self. What you’re left with is all that you need, trust me! Try to get your partner in on it like a joint project to kick off your newest chapter together!

Weekend Activities
As a couple, it can be tricky to decide what activities happen on the weekend. One person can sometimes overrule the other, even if it doesn’t happen purposefully. To keep things balanced, each of you could write a list of things you want to do and accomplish over the weekend and have it done by Friday night. This way, it clearly depicts what’s getting done from both sides and makes weekends that much more relaxing.

Try Something New
I know I told you to establish a fun routine, but adding in something fresh and exciting each week will keep a little bit of that honeymoon magic alive! Try new recipes, new restaurants, new neighborhoods to explore on the weekends- just try to avoid the mundane. You have plenty of time to turn into an old married couple, spend this time injecting some excitement into your day-to-day!

An English Estate Wedding Anchored In Minimalist Design

I have to admit that once I landed on this bride’s blog, These Four Walls, I spent the better part of a morning perusing her beautifully curated content centered on Scandinavian design. I quickly learned she’s got quite the eye for style and, of course, her wedding day was no exception. Set at the most charming English estate, it’s a celebration anchored in dreamy neutrals with a touch of dusty pink with ultra-romantic blooms designed by Ruby & The Wolf. The bride’s love of minimalism ensured the day struck just the right balance of elegance and simplicity, and we have all the photos straight from the lens of Taylor & Porter.

from the Bride, Abi… We wanted our wedding to be elegant but also relaxed and informal. I’m very drawn to minimalism and pale, muted colors such as white and gray – I run a blog about simple living and Scandinavian-inspired design – so this played a large part in the styling.

The venue was our starting point, and we fell in love with Pynes House, set in the small village of Upton Pyne in Devon, the moment we arrived to view it. So many country houses are dark and cluttered, but Pynes House is flooded with light; it also has 12 bedrooms, which meant we could spend the whole weekend there with close friends and family, and get ready at a leisurely pace on the morning of the wedding. In a strange twist, we have since found out that some of Chris’ ancestors came from Upton Pyne and were married in the village in 1786, so they would have been familiar with the house!

We had no decoration other than lots of flowers and flickering candles, as the venue just didn’t need it. And we didn’t have to think twice about which florist to use – Kirstie of Ruby & The Wolf has been a friend for years, and we love her dramatic yet natural style. She managed to translate our vision to perfection – white and dusty-pink blooms (hellebore, ranunculus, roses, astrantia) and lots of trailing greenery. Our favorite feature was a pair of huge urns spilling with flowers and foliage, which she placed on Perspex plinths in the entrance hall; she also created stunning mantelpiece displays in our ceremony and banquet rooms.

As well as drawing on the setting, we took inspiration from Spain and Italy, where we’ve both spent a lot of time over the years (I used to live in Barcelona, and Chris and I have traveled to Italy together numerous times). We booked a guitar duo to play Spanish music during the ceremony and drinks reception, and our food featured lots of Mediterranean influences; my bouquet also included jasmine, our cake was flavored with orange-blossom water, and Spanish churros were served as a snack on the dance floor.

In addition, I wanted to include influences from my grandmothers, who are sadly no longer with us. I wore my maternal grandmother’s diamond earrings and had a maple-leaf brooch inherited from my Canadian paternal grandmother pinned to my bouquet. My brother, who flew over from Vancouver for the wedding, also gave a surprise native Canadian blessing during the ceremony.

It was Kirstie who first introduced us to Louise from Taylor & Porter, and as soon as we looked through her portfolio we knew we wanted her to photograph our wedding. Her images are beautifully crafted – so graceful and timeless, and infused with natural light. We’re delighted with the results, and they capture the story and feel of the day perfectly.

Our stationery came from the talented Suzanne at The Whistle Press, who created bespoke letterpress designs using calligraphy from Megan Riera. I’d met Megan when I attended one of her calligraphy workshops, so when Chris and I got engaged we commissioned her to create words which we then used across our invitations, menus, table plan and order of events. I hand-wrote matching place cards for the tables.

I was keen for my dress to be light, comfortable and easy to wear; I also wanted a sleek silhouette, with no large skirt or fussy details. Charlie Brear’s ‘Payton’ was perfect, and I had it customized with lace cap sleeves and lace scallop edging. It had a puddle train which was supposed to be buttoned up for dancing, but I was enjoying swishing it around too much so it stayed down (I somehow managed not to trip over it!).

The whole day was magical from start to finish, and I wish we could do it all over again. Highlights included the groomsmen’s speech, which had everyone crying with laughter, and hitting the dance floor at the end of the night (for our first dance we chose ‘At Last’ by Etta James, which seemed appropriate given we’d been together for 14 years before getting engaged!). Another favorite moment for both of us was turning to face the room after saying our vows, and seeing all our friends and family together in one place – truly special.

How to Include Your Future In-Laws in Wedding Planning

Ask anyone who has ever been married. When you say, “I do,” you’re making a commitment to the entire family. When you take their last name, you’re taking on generations of family history, traditions, and occasional drama.

You might be new to the family, but, with a little effort, you might just become their favorite child. (Sorry, babe!)

Graham Terhune Photography

Let’s begin with the proposal…

Express Your Excitement
Start practicing your Oscar speech now. When you announce your engagement to your future in-laws, take a moment to thank (and inspire) them. After all, they’re a big part of why your fiancé turned out so well! Channel all your post-proposal feels into telling them how thrilled you are to join their family. No doubt your enthusiasm will be contagious.

Brancoprata

Introduce Your Parents
Who knows and loves you more than your own parents? Whether it’s at the engagement or right before the wedding, set some time to introduce your parents to your future in-laws in person. They’ll have the opportunity to brag about that time you won the spelling bee in sixth grade, and his parents will get to know you on a deeper level thanks to the people who love you most (other than your fiancé, of course). His parents will also get the chance to share their favorite childhood memories. And all that sharing will strengthen your families’ bond.

To bridge any awkward moments, make a mental list in advance of interesting conversation topics. What do both your parents have in common? What’s your future father-in-law’s favorite thing to talk about? Think of recent vacations, hobbies, sports teams, or charities to bring up if there’s an uncomfortable silence.

Talk to the MoB
Your mom has probably been dreaming of this moment for as long as you have. When you were playing dress-up, she was probably thinking about the day you would pick out your wedding dress together. Talk to her about where and when she’s comfortable including your future mother-in-law. If she’s fine with it, you might want to invite your future-MIL to your final dress fitting. Maybe there are some other wedding planning activities – like the cake tasting or bridal shoe shopping – you could involve both moms.

The mother of the groom will appreciate being included, especially if she doesn’t have any daughters of her own. These memories will be forever special to your relationship.

Ryon:Lockhart Photography
Respect Important Traditions
Religion, culture, and holidays can be extremely important to families. Talk to the groom about which traditions are most important to his parents. Dividing holidays is never easy. But knowing what matters most to his family will help you make the right decision as a couple about where and how you spend your time. His parents will appreciate you making the effort to understand and accommodate their priorities with your own. And at the end of the day, that’s what family is all about.

Send Shower Invitations
Make sure you include your future mother-in-law in any appropriate bridal showers or pre-wedding festivities—your bachelorette and lingerie shower can be no-mom zones! Even if it’s out of state, ask the hostess to send an invitation to both your mother and your future mother-in-law. If she can’t make it, she will appreciate the fact that you wanted her there.

Blue Rose Photography

Give a Thoughtful Wedding Gift
Your wedding day is an incredible opportunity to make your future in-laws feel special. They will cherish a thoughtful gift or a heartfelt note from the day you became their new daughter. Take the time to write them a letter, communicating what you value most about your relationship and what memories you’re looking most forward to making. Cover them in love as you prepare to walk down the aisle to their son.

Your future mother-in-law will appreciate any gift that comes from your heart. It will be an emotional day, so consider an embroidered handkerchief with a bible verse, an inspirational lyric, or a personal note to dry her happy tears. (“Thank you for raising the man of my dreams!”) For an extra personal touch, ask the seamstress to sew fabric left over from your wedding dress alterations into handkerchiefs for your future mother-in-law (also great for your mom and any grandmothers as well). A special charm/bracelet or jewelry to match her dress are also thoughtful wedding day presents.

True, in-laws can be tricky. But the most important thing to any parent is that you love their child. It doesn’t matter if you spend 2 or 200 hours with them between the proposal and the wedding. When they know how much you love their son— and that you want to spend forever by his side—they will welcome you into the family with open arms.

A Destination Wedding With a Backyard Vibe

Sarah Rose wanted an intimate destination wedding since she and her soon-to-be husband both worked for the family catering business, so when she stepped onto the grounds of the Fess Parker Wine Country Inn in Los Olivos, she knew she had found her location. The Inn’s homey atmosphere and green lawn provided that quaint, backyard vibe Sarah Rose had been dreaming of. Kristina Adams photographed the cozy celebration, so scroll on, lovelies, to see it all!

From the Bride… With my husband being born into the Jay’s Catering family, his life has forever revolved around the hospitality industry. With both of us working for Jay’s, we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our marriage than by having a small, quaint destination wedding with our immediate family only. After a day of venue searching and visiting almost every winery in the Santa Barbara area, my mom and I stumbled upon the Fess Parker Inn, Los Olivos. Hungry, tired, and slightly discouraged from not finding my perfect venue, I walked through the lobby of the hotel, saw a simple green garden, and immediately imagined our perfect “backyard” wedding.

My wedding inspiration came after booking our honeymoon to Greece. I felt a Mediterranean garden theme would fit perfectly in the space. I incorporated Mediterranean blues with some pops of lavender. I used local vendors for my wedding such as the lavender and olive oil party favors from Global Gardens down the road from the venue. Our food was also Greek – Petros catered our delicious dinner.

My favorite memory of our wedding was surprising my husband with a cigar/whiskey lounge at the end the night. I am so happy to have found this venue and cannot wait to go back for more celebrations!

The Perfect Garden Party Affair in Philadelphia

The term “classic beauty” is not only the perfect way to describe this radiant bride but also her entire wedding. Set at the Glen Foerd Mansion, the couple’s Philadelphia venue laid the foundation for an idyllic garden party affair and the every detail followed suit. Lovesick kept the post-vows party going and Emily Wren Photography documented the entire day from beginning to end.

From Emily Wren PhotographyCortney and Greg held their sweet and elegant wedding at the always enchanting Glen Foerd Mansion in Philadelphia, PA. The classic architecture and pristine rose gardens were the perfect backdrop for this spring wedding.

Cortney was a classic beauty in her Corsica gown by Eddie K and a simple yet elegant updo by Nicole Drouillard let her natural and radiant beauty shine. Pops of blue could be found in details throughout the day including beautiful hand painted signs, her dip-dyed cake by Jamie Hollander gourmet, and a few subtle but perfectly placed blue bonnets in the gorgeous bouquets by Devon & Pinkett Floral Design. Her bridal party also wore a beautiful shade of blue which just completed their perfect spring color palette!

During their reception, Greg surprised Cortney by performing an original song dedicated to his new wife, accompanied by all his groomsmen. And as the evening drew to an end fireworks were set off over the water – a perfect end to a perfect wedding day!

When a Wedding Photographer and Cinematographer Tie the Knot

When you are a wedding photographer + cinematographer like this Bride and Groom, finding just the perfect person to capture your own big day is no easy feat. But with the help of Darya Kamalova, stepping out from behind the lens and celebrating their love went off without a hitch. From insanely beautiful portraits to a crazy cool reception at an industrial loft, see what happens when wedding vendors throw their own beautiful day.

From the Bride… In 2008, we met each other at a comedy festival in Hamburg, and we never would have imagined that we were going to spend the next five years together on the road between Karlsruhe and Cologne. After both of us finished school, we decided to study design in Cologne together and at the same time, we found our first flat. While studying, we did an exchange semester in Budapest, traveled around, and started to work as a filmmaker and photographer on weddings. We have seen so many weddings and have been really inspired by them. After eight years and the proposal in Prague, we knew immediately what we wanted. The challenge was to find the right team, so we looked up not only local vendors in Germany, but also abroad. For example, we found our main photographer in Italy. We did many things by ourselves from the invitations to the wedding gown. But we are also happy that we had such great professionals on our side.

We’re Head Over Heels for this Moody, Modern + Glam Wedding Inspiration

If I were to redo the design of my own wedding day, what would I add in? Easy decision. I’d add in pops of red. I can’t get enough of this hue and A Charming Fete executed it oh so right with this styled shoot with help from Borrow Vintage & Eclectic Rentals, La Tavola and more fabulous vendors. Jenny Haas captured the gorgeous blooms, chic stationery, metallic moments and more – dive right into our Vault gallery right this way for it all!

From A Charming Fete… We partnered with Borrow Rentals and Blooms by Plantscaping to design an ultra luxe, edgy, modern wedding inspiration. We pulled in lots of sleek details from blush velvet napkins, black and pinot velvet textures, lucite accents throughout (check out the custom dining table base), onyx flatware, elegant black stationery with sharp metallic gold calligraphy, and mixed copper and gold metals. Working with Lago Custom Events, we showcased some of the best wedding locations in Cleveland including the penthouse terrace overlooking the lake.

The bride was stunning in a mermaid style Pronovias gown with puffed cap sleeve encrusted in gemstones, her jewel covered heels were the perfect match. The groom dressed in chic, tailored black tie.

The florals were all about a rich, deep palette of burgundy reds, pinot and emerald green against blush tones. Lush red peonies and garden roses played off the plates of fresh blackberries and cherries on the tablescape. Blooms constructed a brass-like structure above the dining table to hold a lavish floating floral arrangement with views overlooking the East Bank of the Flats as well as industrial buildings and bridges.

The penthouse ceremony scene was so dreamy, almost like floating on water with no obstruction of lake views. The metal backdrop ceremony structure was custom, created by Borrow Rentals and accented with loads of foliage, peonies and roses.

Other details included an edgy four-tier black cake with a swag of vibrant, jewel tone blooms, an eclectic lounge with custom pieces and vintage rug as well as seasonal cocktail sips.

Rain Brought This Wedding Inspo Inside + It Couldn’t Be More Gorg

When it began raining during the Lauren Fair Photography Workshop, the team of talented vendors moved the shoot inside the greenhouse at Jardin de Buis and the result couldn’t have ended up more gorgeous. The Bride looked stunning against the ample greenery in her glittery gold gown from Lovely, sweet shoes by Bella Belle, and loose waves styled by True Beauty Marks. Plus, the rainy day created the most perfect lighting when diffused through the greenhouse glass for an intimate and romantic reception. Luckily for us, Lauren Fair shared all the pretty, which proves a rainy wedding day just may be a blessing in disguise.

From Lauren Fair Photography… The grounds of Jardin de Buis in Pottersville, New Jersey transport you to the French countryside in the best way. With dreamy greenhouses, gardens, a reflecting pool, and an orangerie, even the rainiest day is still stunningly beautiful.

This April, we hosted our Lauren Fair Photography workshop at Jardin, and it ended up pouring rain the entire day! With the original shoot planned for outdoors and dinner next to the reflecting pool, we moved everything indoors and ended up with the dreamiest greenhouse inspired photos.

For this wedding shoot, we wanted to use all seasonal and fresh local florals, and it was the perfect time to embrace all the lilacs blooming! Lovely Bride NYC sent us the most beautiful Chosen by One Day gold shimmer gown, and our incredible real couple, Brianna and Chris, were the sweetest, most in-love and wonderful model couple!

We hope this inspires couples to incorporate beautiful color and seasonal elements into their wedding days! To hear more about Lauren Fair Photography’s upcoming workshops, click here.

This is How You Spend the Perfect Weekend in Carmel-by-the-Sea

If you’re on the hunt for the perfect weekend away, Carmel-by-the-Sea is your girl. It is a beautiful mash-up of quaint coastal town in California, meets foodie delights, wine country neighbors and views galore. Tag along with Emily March as she spills her favorite spots for eating, siping, adventuring and resting in this sweet spot nestled between Big Sur and Monterey.

From Emily… There are thousands of quant coastal towns, but I’m not sure any have quite the same charm as Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. I’ve been a few times in different seasons and temperatures, so I can this definitively: this is my favorite place in California! Whether you’re a foodie, wine-lover, photographer or adventurer, you’ll find something to love about this little town nestled between Big Sur and Monterrey.

What to Eat

For the foodie, restaurants abound throughout the tiny streets of downtown. Stop for drinks and fish tacos at Hog’s Breath Inn’s hidden pack patio. Grab a seat by one the outdoor fireplaces and enjoy their succulent-filled gardens. Dinner at PortaBella or Dametra Cafe won’t disappoint and are certain to include a visit by the restaurants’ incredibly kind owner. For a sweet treat, grab some candy at the way too cute Cottage of Sweets. From house-made fudge to old school confectionaries, you’ll find something for every sweet tooth. For a truly exceptional experience, though, you’ll need to head south on Highway 1 to Rocky Point Restaurant. Perfect for a sunny afternoon, sip on champagne and work your way through their appetizers while you take in view of the incredible coastline and famous Bixby Bridge.

What to Sip

If you’re a California wine-lover, a visit to nearby Carmel Valley is a must. Only a 20-minute drive, wine country is an easy day trip. Numerous vineyards and tasting rooms dot the winding road – there are almost too many to choose from! My hands down favorite is Folktale Vineyard and Winery. With fairy tale charm and a fantastic wine list, Folktale is a must stop.

Sit at the 20-foot banquet table in the sunroom, the cozy couch by the fireplace or out on the patio where you can play giant Jenga and enjoy the sunshine. Once you’re greeted with a glass of their sparkling wine (my favorite!) dive into the rest of their tasting menu – don’t forget to order the cheese and charcuterie plate too! Once you’re here, you’ll never want to leave, but if you manage to pry yourself away from their rosé , head over to Georis Winery just down the road for their chardonnay and Meyer Lemon pizza.

What to See

If you’re someone who travels for views, then pictures-perfect Carmel is where you need to be. A quiet early morning stroll puts charming storefronts in the best light. Get lost and discover hidden pathways that lead to secret gardens. Grab a map and give yourself a walking tour of Carmel’s neighborhoods, filled with fairytale-like cottages. For natural scenery, drive south to nearby Point Lobos State Park or take a drive down Highway 1 to Big Sur. Park at an overlook and explore a beach or take in stunning views of rocky cliffs diving into the Pacific Ocean.

Where to Sleep

When you’re ready to call it a day, there’s no better place to spend the night than at Cypress Inn. Located in the heart of downtown, Cypress Inn is perfect for pet owners and dog lovers. 100% pet friendly, your furry pal can join you for your Carmel weekend and make a few of their own friends. If you’re like me and don’t have a dog (yet!), Cypress Inn is the perfect cure for your puppy fever. I mean, you really can’t beat a happy hour surrounded by Australian shepherds and golden retrievers, am I right?

No matter your travel style, Carmel-by-the Sea should be on your “Must Visit” list. Fair warning, though: once you’re home, you’ll spend at least a week trying to figure out how you can get back!

The Most Romantic Spot on the Planet Just Might Be…Provence

Does it get any more romantic than a quiet chateau in the South of France? That would be a hard no. For Tamara Gruner’s recent photography workshop, she showcased just how magical a honeymoon in Provence can be. And with design and styling by Weddings of Excellence in Provence and the old world charm of Le Clos Saint-Estève, these images are all the motivation you need to book that post-wedding vacation to the prettiest spot on Earth.

From Tamara Gruner Photography… What can be more beautiful to spend your first days as a married couple in beautiful Provence? We chose the stunning Provencal venue ‘Le Clos Saint-Estève’ for our honeymoon inspiration. Our happy couple arrives in style at their honeymoon location with their cute suitcases. Our bride is wearing a beautiful modern dress from Alyssa Kristin, which matches her stunning shoes from Bella Belle Shoes. Happily, they are wondering around the beautiful estate and can’t hide their love for each other. Our sweet lovebirds are looking forward to a week of relaxing days after their wedding. Upon their arrival they are waking up to sunshine the next day. Our bride is dressed in her gorgeous lingerie made by Veronica Sheaffer. To totally unwind they are having breakfast in bed in their typically Provencal bedroom – a stunner itself! We wish the both of them many more fun mornings in their future life together! What to Sell, Save + Donate After Your Wedding

Whether you’re tight on money after your wedding or not sure what to do with 150 mercury glass votive candle holders, here are some suggestions to help you whittle down what to keep or toss.

AL Weddings

SELL: Your Dress

Take a deep breath. You probably did not see this coming, did you? Hear me out on this one. There is a slim chance your potential future daughter will want to wear your dress. At the time of her wedding, your dress will be outdated, and unless perfectly preserved and stored (which can be pricey) not in wedding day shape.

If you sell your dress now (either online or through a bridal consignment shop), you can likely get up to 50% of the purchase value back! Besides, do you really want your dress to take up precious closet space for the next 30 years? Don’t forget, you’ll have stunning photos of you in your gown. Take the proceeds and buy a gorgeous purse you’ll use every day, or even surprise your new hubby with a weekend getaway!

Michael + Anna Costa Photography

SELL: Your Decor

Wedding decor is one of those things that will cycle in and out of trends over the years. There’s no use saving hundreds of votives, your hand-lettered table numbers, that antique mirror-tuned-seating-chart or even those beautiful batch cocktail dispensers. Have hundreds of leftover bubbles or sparklers from your exit? A beautiful card box? Selling them now on sites like Next Door can help offset the cost of the original purchase. Or, rent them out bigger items through sites like Fluid Market and maybe you can even make some money!

SELL: Flower Girl/Ring Bearer Attire and Accessories

Your precious mini-attendants might have already grown out of their festive duds by the time you get back from your honeymoon! Clean the attire first (kids are messy, you know) and then put them up for sale via kids consignment shops or sites like ThredUp or Poshmark.

SAVE: Your Accessories

Accessories are the perfect (small!) items to cherish and keep. Some easier items to save would be your shoes, jewelry and headpiece! You could wear your wedding shoes on every anniversary, or pass on your beautiful wedding day necklace and earrings to that future daughter (or daughter in law)! Your perfume would be a lovely sensory reminder to save as well.

Marissa Lambert Photography

SAVE: Your Husband’s Suit

I know, I know! I told you to sell your dress, but your guy gets to keep his suit? Not fair. Unless he wore a tuxedo, chances are his suit can be dressed down and worn for other occasions in life. Another wedding, a job interview, a special anniversary dinner are all reasons to bust out the suit again, perhaps without the jacket and with a different tie!

Jenna Bechtholt Photography

DONATE: Your bouquet

Well, you’ve tossed it once, so just keep on tossing it! Preserved flowers rarely keep well, so why not donate it to a guest (your MOH perhaps) or have someone drop it by a nursing home or hospital the next day. If you’d like, keep one bloom and press it between a book.

DONATE: Extras

Extra program paper. Unused seating cards. Half-used DIY/craft supplies. Welcome bags. Donate or recycle all of these. Hopefully, your skilled photographer caught all these details so you can contain them into one big, beautiful wedding album. Trust us, you don’t want to pack and repack these odds and ends as you move from your shared apartment to your starter house to your forever home. Just recycle, throw out or donate whatever doesn’t have a practical use (or extreme sentimental value).

A Dream Elopement With a Champagne Finish!

There are so many ways to pull off an unforgettable elopement but when it starts with vows at San Francisco’s City Hall and ends with bubbly at a local champagne bar? Well, it simply doesn’t get any better. *Cue* this beautiful couple who brought on This Love of Yours to capture their small but sweet celebration including all of the above. Get lost in the gallery and don’t be surprised if you’re officially swayed to plan a non-traditional wedding of your own.

From the bride… With the support and blessing of our family and friends, we were able to have the romantic elopement we had envisioned. We knew we wanted a stress-free day, and it was exactly that! I will never forget the feeling of exchanging our vows. We were so relaxed and able to look into each other’s eyes and feel every word. San Francisco’s stunning City Hall provided the most beautiful backdrop for our ceremony, and toasting with champagne at The Riddler was the perfect way to celebrate becoming husband and wife. We wouldn’t change a thing about our wedding day!

The Views From This Phuket Wedding Are Insane

From beginning to end, this destination wedding in Phuket is a mashup of best views ever and stunning, romantic details planned by The Wedding Bliss Thailand. One of those insanely gorgeous details that combines all of the above is the ceremony arch circle covered in florals by IAMFLOWER or the sunset cocktails on a private beach. All in all it’s a gorgeous Thailand affair captured perfectly by Blush Wedding Photography.

From the Bride… Andrew proposed during our hike in Sri Lanka to the top of Adam’s Peak. It was definitely one of our most memorable trips and experiences. We wanted to continue this theme through to our wedding by having a clifftop ceremony with a woodsy rustic theme. The Wedding Bliss Thailand and IAMFLOWER worked magic creating a luxurious and unique wedding representing us in the most meaningful way that we are still in awe by today. They created exactly what we envisioned, if not more! Andrew and I deeply value meaningful experiences with family and friends and knew we wanted a more intimate environment for our wedding. The size, quality and luxury of Ayara Kamala was perfect for bringing that aspect of our dream to life. Masha and the Ayara Kamala Resort & Spa team were immensely helpful and attentive. They were also extremely accommodating which made the stay and big day perfect for us and all of our guests. We feel infinitely blessed for everyone who took part in our big day, and sharing such incredible memories that we will cherish forever. Blush Photography beautifully captured the memory and essence of our nuptials that will be lasting and shared with generations to come.

From The Wedding Bliss Thailand… Thailand was a dream destination for Edwina and Andrew, and what can be better than celebrating one of the most important day in their life at such a special place? Keeping a very intimate atmosphere, we set to work on a wedding that would uniquely reflect their personalities, but would also have a timeless beautiful look to it. Inspired by bride’s love of burgundy color, we combined it with neutral hues with lots of natural greenery to create a very organic, woodsy look with romantic flair. A stunning setting on the cliff at Phuket’s west coast provided a great variety of photo backdrops. Ceremony was set at the top of Ayara Kamala resort, while for cocktails we transported the guests down to their private beach, where they enjoyed sunset time with cocktails at casual but elegant beach mat seating. We enhanced evening look of reception dinner by throwing in a bit more prominent splash of color, and propping romantic atmosphere with magical fairy-light canopy. It was a perfect evening!

This Bride Refused to Let a Little Rain Ruin Her Romantic Wedding Day!

You learn a lot during the wedding planning process and our favorite brides are the ones that share that first hand knowledge with other eager to learn ladies. Case in point: this blushing beauty who took a rainy forecast and turned it into a wonderful wedding adventure with the help of Heavenly Day Events. She crafted a letter to other brides who dread the raindrops and her words are wise – read on below and see the proof that rainy wedding days don’t mean dreary pics with The Mill Photography Studio’s gallery right this way!

Colors

From Heavenly Day EventsRain is one of the fastest ways to crush a bride’s spirit. Utter disappointment … the destruction of a vision that has been dreamed of and paid for penny by penny.

Though, as a seasoned planner, I’ve learned one thing: headspace can make or break the experience. Remaining positive is the best way to navigate those frustrating challenges.

Our couple got married in the Texas Hill Country and when rain clouds threatened their day, they made a choice. It was still going to be the best day ever, no matter the muddy dress and noodle hair. They handled things so well that I later asked the bride if she would write a letter to a future bride facing a rainy day and her words are words that all couples could benefit from hearing. It rained the entire day and seeing how beautiful images can be, despite the grim, is a testament to hiring a professional photographer that will go the extra mile.

Before jumping into her sweet letter, I think it’s also important to note that their positivity rubbed off on the vendors. We couldn’t have been more proud to serve them. The photographer was literally laying in a mud puddle to get these images. Everyone was soaking wet and pretty chilly but none of us cared. We just loved that they were having a good time.

Here is the letter.

Dear future rainy day bride,

You don’t know me – but we have a lot in common. We’re both Texans, 2017 brides, we’re both obviously super smart because we both hired Amber and now it sounds like you might get to join the rainy day bride club. I know you might be thinking that it’s not necessarily a club you want to be a part of right now. It’s not what you envisioned, everything is outside, you might be a little concerned people aren’t going to have fun, your dress may get dirty, your Jimmy Choos are going to sink in the MUD – the list goes on.

Just a few weeks ago, on March 4th – I was in your shoes and facing the same predicament. I was getting married at an all outdoor venue and months out (I may or may not have started looking January 4th) it was looking like rain on March 4th. I inquired in Farmer’s Almanacs, I enlisted my wedding party to do rain dances, I tried it all to get it to not rain on our big day but by Wednesday March 1st, it was time to face the music. It wasn’t just going to rain on my wedding day, it was going to POUR. Mother Nature and I simply just weren’t on the same page about how we envisioned March 4th.

Admittedly, I was really pouty about it. That was until that Friday before all of the festivities were about to begin. Chris (my now husband) sat me down in the car and insisted that I pout for the next 30 minutes but after those 30 minutes are up – it was time to move on. He reminded me of all the hard work I had poured into planning this day, that this was likely the only time in our lives when all of our friends and family would be in one location ready and eager to celebrate us, and that while this grand event that we had looked forward to for months hadn’t included rain in our heads, it was only seven hours of rain on our wedding day and according to everyone else, nothing but blue skies ahead for the rest of our lives. So that’s what I did. I sat, and I cried and when those 30 minutes were up, I moved on and decided to choose to be positive for the rest of the weekend. No matter what the weather was, at the end of the weekend, I’d be married to the man of my dreams – and that’s what this is really all about! You’re getting married!!

This week, as your big day approaches, I’d encourage you to do the same. It might sound a little silly – and Amber can be a great shoulder to cry on if you need – but just let it all out. Cry like a baby, pout about it and then leave it behind you and stay positive – because this is the day you’ve been waiting your whole girl life for! When March 4th rolled around it was pouring down rain but I was cool and calm as a cucumber. I knew I was in good hands with Amber and her team (btw, you’ll have to get her to tell you the time she handled a wedding in a tornado). All of the vendors totally picked up on my positive attitude and I really feel like they went above and beyond their already amazing selves to make my day the most wonderful.

Looking back, some of my best memories of that day revolve around the rain – and not to mention, my most favorite pictures. We’ve had friends come up to us for weeks saying that our wedding was the most fun they’ve been to in months and that they didn’t even notice the rain half of the time (that maaaay have been alcohol induced?).

Anyways, that’s my completely unsolicited advice, but it served me well and I was happy to provide it to another soon-to-be fellow rainy day bride. It’s a fun club a few other friends of mine are in as well… now we have a new found laughter about Alanis Morisette’s Ironic :)

And just remember at the end of the day, no matter how nervous or stressed, excited, overwhelmed and all of the other feelings you might be feeling right now, just remember that your very best friend is going to be on the other side of the altar just waiting for you and that’s all that matters anyway. Everyone is there to celebrate you guys – and they don’t mind getting a little wet!

PS.Try to take in EVERY single moment, it will be over before you know it!

Sincerely,

The Bride

Two Designers’ Minimalist Elopement in Joshua Tree

When a graphic designer and fashion design instructor tie the knot, you can expect a stylish affair and that was certainly the case for Dominique and Curt’s big day. They opted to skip the stress and minimize the fuss with a pop-up ceremony in Joshua Tree, California. Dominique stunned in a BHLDN bridal jumpsuit and post-vows the couple celebrated with donuts and champagne. Head to the gallery for even more captured by Gaby J Photography.

From Gaby J PhotographyDominique, a fashion design instructor, and Curt, a graphic designer, met 3 years ago in Philadelphia through a mutual friend. They couldn’t have met at the worst time – Dominique was in the middle of moving to Charleston and Curt was moving to San Francisco later on in the year.

After a couple of dates together, they kept in touch but knew it was too good to be true. On a whim, Dominique asked Curt to visit her in Charleston and shortly after, he asked her what she would think if he moved there. Of course, Dominique wanted him there more than ever but left the decision up to him. I’m sure you can guess his decision!

Dominique and Curt are both avid outdoorsy people and the desert has a small piece of their hearts. They knew they wanted to elope and have a stress free, intimate day just between the two them. Unanimously, they chose to elope in Joshua Tree, CA and have a pop-up ceremony by Flora Pop.

Being a fashion design instructor, Dominique wore a vintage white jumper paired with sparkly Jimmy Choos. Curt wore a minimal floral print tie and tailored suit. They started their wedding day together in their Airbnb relaxing with drinks in their hand and snacking from a charcuterie board spread.

They walked hand-in-hand to their favorite spot in the desert and professed their vows to each other amongst wild flowers and pre historic boulders under a magical sun setting sky.

This Classic Charleston Wedding Features a Water-Inspired Design

These two cuties were evoked the look and feel of water when designing their classic Charleston wedding – we’re obsessed with their unique muse! The cool blue hue makes an appearance from the Bridesmaids’ Jenny Yoo Collection gowns to the table linens, creating a flowing and soothing vibe. We’ve got more of the refreshing palette waiting for you right here, with thanks to the always amazing Dana Cubbage Weddings.

From Dana Cubbage WeddingsI had been looking forward to Ashley and Brian’s waterfront wedding at Lowndes Grove ever since I met them last summer for their engagement session.  I absolutely love these two, and I knew their day would be filled with lots of love and laughter…and I was right!

Ashley and Brian shared a sweet first look before their amazing ceremony overlooking the Ashley River.  The light was pure perfection as they said “I do!” in front of their family and friends – one of my very favorite ceremonies to date! Their water-inspired wedding design featured french blue linens, romantic candles, and flowers in colors that mimicked the sunset.  Once the actual sun set over the Ashley River, the dance floor heated up, and the Bride even took a stage-dive after treating everyone with her awesome performance of “Ice Ice Baby”!  At the end of the night, Ashley and Brian exited through a tunnel of sparklers – the perfect end to an incredible day.

This Mandarin Oriental Wedding Is the Epitome of Classic Glamour

There’s nothing like a glamorous, black tie affair in New York City, and this wedding checks off every requisite box with style: sparkly Miu Miu heels, Bridesmaids in gorgeous Lazaro gowns, Groom in a classic tux by Tincati, overflowing florals by Tantawan Bloom, and sunset views of Central Park. Pretty unbeatable, right? Get ready to be swept off your feet by this wedding at the Mandarin Oriental, captured by Brian Hatton Photography.

From Brian Hatton Photography Lidia and Anthony were married on September 26th, with their wedding ceremony and reception at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City. Anthony is a real estate developer, and he and Lidia met as she was considering getting an apartment in one of his properties. He got wind of who was coming by for a showing and insisted on giving the tour himself! The rest is history.

The whole day took place at the Mandarin Oriental overlooking Columbus Circle in Manhattan. I love shooting in this spectacular space every year, not only for all the service and luxury of a 5-star hotel but also for the unparalleled views from the ballroom and bridal suite. Before the ceremony itself, Lidia and Anthony opted to do a first look just outside in the circle, and then we all hopped in Sprinter vans to head out for pictures at Lincoln Center. Then it was back to the Mandarin Oriental for the ceremony overlooking Central Park as the sun went down. The Bride and Groom were surrounded by flowers, and the Bridesmaids even had differing but complementary bouquets.

Tantawan Bloom is one of the very best florists and event decorators in New York City. They turned the Mandarin Oriental’s ballroom into a magical white wonderland. The whole day was filled with fine details and stunning visuals. The invitations were especially gorgeous, with each guest receiving a silk-covered bifold imprinted with gold leaf.

5 Unexpected Places to Find Great Wedding Decor

When you’re planning your wedding, there are so many great places to find décor. From online shopping on Etsy to department stores like Bloomingdales to your own neighborhood wedding shop, there are a ton of cute items to be found. But did you know that stores like Target and HomeGoods also sell great (and affordable!) wedding decor?

If you’re looking for more options, look no further. We picked some of our favorite unexpected wedding stores.

Lauren Kinsey Fine Art Weddings

ANTHROPOLOGIE
Many of you may already know that Anthropologie has its very own wedding output called BHLDN, selling gorgeous wedding dresses and bridesmaid gowns. But did you know they also sell décor? If you’re lucky enough to have a BHLDN inside your local Anthropologie store, go and check out all they have to offer. If not, mostly everything is online as well.

We’re lusting over this cake serving set and these floral place cards.

TARGET
We all love Target. And now, you have an even better reason to spend your Saturday afternoon wandering through the aisles. From balloons to favors, you can almost outfit your entire reception (and bachelorette and bridal shower) with Target wedding items.

We’re picking up this bachelorette banner and these table numbers on our next Target run.

AMAZON
While not quite a store, this online mecca has unlimited options for your wedding. Looking for something unique that you can’t seem to find anywhere? Check Amazon! Need something quick and don’t have time to run to the store? Check Amazon! Looking to buy wedding favors in bulk? Yup, you guessed it, Amazon!

We’re loving these love balloons for a bridal shower and these chair signs for added fun during the reception.

MICHAELS
The popular craft store is a great option for the DIY bride. At Michael’s, they sell everything from accessories for the bride to invitations, and they even have their own line of décor from wedding pro, David Tutera.

We love his gold hurricanes, perfect for table decorations and this bride hanger that also comes in bridesmaid, making a perfect gift for you and your favorite girls.

BETSI EWING STUDIO

HOME GOODS
Home Goods is great for decorating your home, but if you look closely, you’ll find that they actually have a ton of wedding items and all at super affordable prices. You can get creative and find things like card boxes and sweetheart chairs, or jet right to their wedding aisle, where photo albums, chair covers, table numbers and more fill the shelves. And while we can’t show you our favorites online (they only sell items in store!), this blog post might help you get inspired.

When Your Fur Baby Serves As Honorary Flower Girl

We first met Jacqueline and Zach (plus their adorable pup, Sansa) last fall with their Malibu engagement. We knew right then that their wedding day was going to be something special and they certainly didn’t disappoint. Think coral peonies, blushy pink bridesmaids, and a lush outdoor setting made for a springtime affair. But the most adorable moment of all? Sansa’s trip down the aisle as honorary flower girl. It’s hands-down one of the sweetest weddings you’ll ever see with incredible photography by Rebecca Yale.

From Rebecca YaleJacqueline and Zach were married on a sunny spring day at the beautiful Quail Ranch, just a short drive from Los Angeles. The day was planned to perfection by Leslie of Encore Events with bright pops of color from Unique Floral Designs.

The bridesmaids all picked their own dresses in tones of blush (a perfect example of mix and match dresses done right) and they were joined by the bride and groom’s puppy as the honorary flower girl who even walked down the aisle and sat front row as her mom and dad said their I Do’s. No detail was left untouched and guests enjoyed a pre-ceremony citrus water or iced-tea from the beautiful citrus water station set up by the ceremony before finding their seats.

After the ceremony guests enjoyed cocktails with the bride and groom’s 2 signature drinks and hors d’ouerves before being welcomed to the other side of the house to a beautiful dinner and dancing party surrounding a gorgeous old tree decked out in lights. Leslie brought in a beautiful pop of color using blue water goblets paired with gorgeous gold chargers and gold cutlery on the tables and mixed the round linen tables with a few rectangle farm tables giving the reception a beautiful dynamic appearance. Each table was marked with a slab of hand calligraphed stone with the table number, which was tucked under the gorgeous peony, rose, ranunculus and greenery filled centerpieces.

The bride and groom had their first dance as the golden light shone through the trees and then the groom surprised his bride with a serenade in front of their guests. The couple danced the night away with their friends and family and guests ended the night with their delicious cake + sweets bar.
