A Classic Soiree That Will Bring a Smile to Your Lips

This classic soiree at The Stanford Faculty Club has absolutely made my day, because as Alex W Photography puts it, “Mina and Joe’s love for one another is so real and palpable that it’s hard not to have a smile on your face when you’re around them.” And it’s absolutely clear, as each and every photo of their nearest and dearest features the most magnificent grins.

From Alex W. Photography I have been eagerly anticipating Mina and Joe getting married. When I initially spoke with Mina, and she told me that she would be having a timeless Stanford wedding, I could hardly contain myself! I knew that this was going to be a classic affair. What really touched me about these two is how truly in love they are and their focus of the day was on their family.

I spent the morning photographing Mina and her Bridesmaids in the Garden Court Hotel in Palo Alto. The bright and airy suite was the perfect backdrop for Mina’s accessories. We headed downstairs from the suite to the gorgeous lobby for some bridal party photos. Filled with natural sunlight that poured in from the expansive windows, this was the perfect complement for such a great looking group of people. We soon left the hotel and headed out to Stanford Memorial Court. Boasting classic architecture, warm stone columns, and cascading ivy, it set the scene for Mina  and Joe’s first look. Mina and Joe’s love for one another is so real and palpable that it’s hard not to have a smile on your face when you’re around them. We spent the rest of our time there exploring the campus, taking advantage of the golden natural light.

Their ceremony was held at a local church that had the most beautiful window behind the altar that exposed the giant redwood trees outside. We took the bridal party there after the “I dos” for some nature portraits and then returned back to the Stanford Faculty Club for the reception. Mina was carried in Joe’s arms for the grand entrance, by far the best way for a Groom to introduce his Bride. During dinner, Joe and Mina gave heartfelt speeches to their friends and family and shared a song with their parents on the dance floor. Everyone danced the night away, and Mina even managed to surprise Joe with a dance performance of her own. I had the absolute best time with these two and can’t wait to return up North for another Stanford wedding!

This Wedding Captures the Best of the Copper Craze

Inspired by the Arizona landscape, Alli and Josh’s al fresco celebration held in the Country Club at DC Ranch exudes effortless style. The key? A warm, copper palette carried through from the stationery to the floral vessels, plus plenty of succulents expertly incorporated throughout the day by Butterfly Petals. If you’re loving the copper craze as much as we are, head to the Vault to see all the snaps of this desert vibe wedding, captured by Melissa Jill Photography.

From Melissa Jill Photography After two years of spending all of their time off traveling to friends’ weddings, Alli and Josh needed a break! When they finally had a chance to take a real vacation together, they made it count – they took a glorious trip to Belize! Unfortunately, they weren’t the only ones enjoying the beauty of Belize, and though they tried for several days to find a pier where they could be alone to enjoy the view, other people were always around. So when they finally came across a pier with no one in sight one day after breakfast, they were thrilled! They relaxed on the end of the pier, feet dangling over the side, and admired the crystal clear water and blue sky. Josh decided to take advantage of the opportunity. After a lot of conversation and one excited fish sighting, Josh took a deep breath and looked over at Alli. Surrounded by the beauty of the Caribbean and holding a tiny box in his hand, he said, “I wouldn’t change anything about this trip…except to have you as my wife.”

For their wedding style, Josh and Alli drew inspiration from the Arizona desert, creating a clean, modern look with succulents and touches of copper. The Country Club at DC Ranch offered a beautiful desert backdrop for the ceremony, where large succulents in metallic containers lined the aisle. A wooden arch draped in flowers, and gauzy white fabric lent an air of romance. The reception was held outdoors in a charming stone courtyard, where the copper tones of the flatware and centerpieces reflected the warmth of the Arizona sun. The guests dined and danced under the stars.

It was a dream come true to photograph Josh and Alli’s wedding! Not only are they incredible people in their own right, but I photographed Alli’s sister’s wedding nine years ago. It’s such a blessing to connect with a family again and again over the years!

Elegant “I Dos” in Mexico Complete With the Beach + Blooms

Just because the bash is on the beach, doesn’t mean all elegance has to go out the window. Quite the contrary with this seaside soiree in Mexico. With gorgeous blooms by Canteiro, every delicate detail is elevated and the finished results? Simply stunning. Stephanie Brazzle captured them all and we have no doubt that these pics will be gracing your Pinterest pages for months to come.

From Stephanie Brazzle… Being in a tropical place like Playa Mujeres is always very inspiring. The Finest Playa Mujeres Hotel and Spa has lush gardens with fresh flowers in every corner. Feeling the breeze, the sand on your feet, and the sound of the waves; it really brings you back to nature. Amy and Adil are a fun couple to say the least. They work hard and play hard. I knew it was going to be not only a beautiful wedding but a fun wedding. I arrived to the suite that morning to see beautiful flower crowns for every bridesmaid by Canteiro Weddings. The groomsmen were dressed in blue and white attire and the bridesmaids in a pale blush. It was an intimate wedding filled with joy and tequila and perfect amount of sea breeze.

Pink on Pink Will Set Your Heart Aflutter!

For the Bride who loves pink, this inspiration session dreamed up by Rebecca K. Events and Styling will set your heart aflutter! Lucy Davenport masterfully captured the concept, which combined feminine touches – like the playful glittery shoes by Charlotte Mills – with moments of modern – like the ghost chairs by Hire It. Jump right in to the gallery,  because this one, lovelies, cannot be missed.

From Rebecca K. Events and StylingThe idea behind this inspiration shoot was to create a style that represents the Rebecca K. Events client – a modern, stylish Bride that truly loves a bit of pretty on her wedding day, from gorgeous flowers to elegant place settings, but also wants to have splashes of fun and sophistication thrown in throughout the wedding celebration.

The color scheme for the shoot was inspired by the colors of my brand: blush pink {pretty}, black and white {modern}, and little bits of gold {fun}. I was lucky to be able to coordinate an amazing dream team of vendors for the shoot! Together we created a gorgeous piece of inspiration for a sophisticated Bride-to-be. I knew I wanted to create something pretty, dramatic, and feminine, but I also did not want it to be over-the-top girly. I added in modern touches using clear chairs, white sequin linens, and small dotted runners with gorgeous flowers by Amy from Bo Boutique. The Bride’s overflowing bouquet in shades of pink added a gorgeous, dramatic effect for this London Bride. The stylish setting of a studio was the perfect venue for the entire shoot! The white and brick walls at Loft Studios is perfect for a city couple looking to transform the space for their own unique day. The studio allows a couple to truly change the space into whatever they wish it to be. In this case, we had beautiful, white clean walls with branches hanging that added a touch of color and flowers without being over the top.

I was so lucky to have the wonderful Lucy Davenport shoot the day for us. The images are so beautiful and dreamy having been captured on film. Investing in gorgeous photography on your wedding day is something I always highly recommend to my clients, and Lucy’s work is truly a reference to what I mean.

There were a lot of little personal details sprinkled throughout, which is something I think is very important to any wedding day – not just creating a pretty wedding, but also having meaning behind it. From the stunning wedding cake by Cakes by Krishanthi that included a touch of pink with a huge statement peony, similar to some found in the Bride’s bouquet, to the beautiful London-themed welcome boxes for the guests, to the floral themed personal cocktails on the bar, to the glittery shoes peeking out from beneath the Bride’s wedding dress, to the after party jumpsuit with mini skirt, it was a beautiful shoot for many Brides to get inspiration for their day from!

This Celebration Started with a Surprise Puppy as a Wedding Gift!

This bride’s gift tops the charts in terms of cuteness. As a surprise for her Groom, she gifted him with the sweetest pup at their first look. It will give you all the feels and the celebration that followed is equally as heartfelt. Planned by Sweetgrass Social with blooms by Farm City Flowers, this day will dazzle you with it’s bright bold color and pull you in with its fur baby cuteness. Pore through the sweet images by Rachel Red Photography right here.

From the Photographer…Bethany surprised Warrie with a brand new puppy during their first look! Bethany grew up visiting this private plantation on Fripp Island, South Carolina, every summer as a child and has so many fond, personal memories attached to the property. She decided to add one more by throwing the bash of a lifetime on their wedding day. Sweetgrass Social was in charge of the design and went over the top with a tent lighting system that made the top of the tent look like shadows of trees with spanish moss. The cross at the altar is engraved with every couple’s name who has ever been married on the property.

Classic New Orleans Wedding Complete with an Heirloom Dress

From an antique engagement ring to her grandmother’s wedding dress worn for her first dance, this Bride is all about “Something Old”. And that sentiment fits right in with a New Orlean’s celebration filled with classic details styled by Victoria Austin and lovely NOLA charm captured through the images of Greer Gattuso and lens of Bride Film. See it all unfold, including the perfect Second Line parade, right here.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/222399788 600 338]

From the Bride… The dress I wore for our first dance is actually very special to me. My Grammy was like a second mother to me, as well as my best friend. She is no longer with us, but I was honored to wear her wedding dress and have her with me, in a way, for my first dance. It was a very special moment, not only for me, but also for my mother and her two sisters. (And yes, it is blue, but it really was her wedding dress! I like to think I get my individuality from her )

I think Grammy also inspired my penchant for antiques. We spent months searching for the perfect antique engagement ring and finally found my circa 1890 pink sapphire ring at Erstwhile Jewelry, a boutique store in NYC owned by a fifth-generation jeweler. My wedding band is a reproduction of a Tiffany & Co., also circa 1890, as the original could not be re-sized. I love knowing that my ring had a history before us and that we aren’t contributing to any unethical gemstone mining or trade practices. For our first dance, we knew we wanted a song from the ’50s and finally settled on “When I Fall in Love”, as performed by Nat “King” Cole. We took some dance lessons with the lowly intention of breaking out of our standard “turn in a circle” move, but we ended up having so much fun that our first dance became one of our favorite moments both preceding and during our wedding day. Our favorite moment, however, was exchanging our wedding vows in front of all of our loved ones. We were blessed to have my best friend, Reverend Felsha Foster, perform our marriage ceremony. Felsha has been my best friend since the third grade, so we have shared some amazing memories over the years, but having her unite us in marriage was by far the best. Finally, working with you, Greer, was a dream. Prior to the wedding, Ryan was worried that he would feel self-conscious about the photography and videography, but we hardly even remembered we were being photographed and filmed.

I Married My High School Sweetheart: Here’s Exactly How We’ve Lasted 11 Years!

My husband, Adam, and I are quite the anomaly these days: we’re high school sweethearts. People are always asking me how we’ve made it work for so long, and while I’d love to tell them “we just love each other,” there’s a lot more to it.

I’m the first to admit that marriage—even one between high school sweethearts—takes work. Here’s how we do it.

M2 Photography

WE COMMUNICATE
You’ve heard it said your entire life: communication is key. I’m positive that the person who first said that was married. I’m very prone to shutting down when I’m upset (any one else find the silent treatment beneficial?), but with Adam, I’ve learned that I need to talk to him if we are going to make anything better. And it’s not just bad things we communicate about—we always ask about our days, how the other is feeling, and opinions on life and world matters.

M2 Photography

WE HAVE OUR OWN ACTIVITIES
Our favorite activities are together, but sometimes, in order to appreciate your time together, you need a little bit of time apart. Even if that just means taking a bath while your spouse watches his or her favorite T.V. show—finding a moment in the day to decompress on your own, or with friends, is a great way to keep the relationship strong.

WE APPRECIATE EACH OTHER
It’s easy to fall into a routine when it comes to doing chores or everyday activities, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But if your fiancé is in charge of doing the dishes, give him a little praise when he gets them done. A simple “thank you” every now and then can go a long way. You’ll like feeling appreciated, too, when the thank you is reciprocated.

M2 Photography

WE ALWAYS KISS GOOD NIGHT (AND GOOD MORNING)
This is probably the most cliché item on this list—but it works. No matter how terrible the day or how mad we may be at each other, we never go to sleep without kissing goodnight. Now, I’m not saying you can’t go to sleep angry (I believe that sometimes a good nights sleep fixes everything), but the kiss will keep your spirits high and lessen your chances of waking up in a bad mood. A good morning kiss just solidifies that and starts the day off on the right foot.

M2 Photography

WE NEVER STOP SAYING ‘I LOVE YOU’
We’ve been together 11 years, and we first said “I love you” when we were 15—so you can probably imagine how many “I love you’s” have been spoken between us. But, every time Adam says he loves me, it means something, and even if for just one second, it lifts my spirits. You may already know that your significant other knows your love for them, but saying it can make all the difference.

WE MAKE EACH DAY COUNT
Every day isn’t remarkable once you’re married. In fact, many days can be pretty crummy. But you can also find something special in each of those crummy days. For Adam and I, we try to celebrate the small stuff. Did we save a lot of money during our weekly grocery shop? Did we find an awesome new show on Netflix that we both like? Those things may seem mundane, but if you find a way to celebrate them, or at least acknowledge them, you’ll train yourself to see the good even in the worst situations. And it will strengthen your bond knowing you do that together.

Time doesn’t matter. It’s the love you feel and the love you show that does. Whether you’ve been together a year or 20 years, as long as you try to show a little love each and every day, your marriage will be golden.

7 Cozy + Romantic Honeymoons to Take After Your Fall Wedding

If you happen to be getting married during the fall season you are in luck! In addition to being a majestic time of year to tie the knot, it is also a wonderfully romantic time to honeymoon.

So, if you are preparing to say your vows as the leaves begin to change, here are the best places, near and far, to jet off to with your forever travel partner after the wedding!

White Loft Studio

Barnard, Vermont
It is difficult to find any place in the United States more cozy and romantic than New England in the fall and Vermont is home to some of the most picturesque, tree-lined towns in the Northeast. While most of the state is made up of adorable bed and breakfast spots and historic inns perfect for honeymooners, Barnard, Vermont combines all-inclusive luxury with legendary fall foliage and activities.

A visit to Twin Farms means you can bike or hike through endless golden leafed trees, take a private, twilight canoe ride, snuggle up by the fire with a glass of wine or unwind at the spa. You will also enjoy three meals a day that revolve around local herbs and vegetables, prepared by an award winning chef, because the philosophy here is that the culinary experience is an integral part of the visit, evening cocktails included!

Charleston, South Carolina
While southern charm is certainly not seasonal, autumn combines Charleston’s infamous hospitality with mild and enjoyable temps, clear skies and lots of sunshine. You and your honeymoon companion can spend the days strolling hand-in-hand through the historic streets and arts district, wandering in and out the endless downtown shops, visiting various museums or boating on the beautiful waters.

Charleston is also known for its booming and incredibly delicious food scene, which is amped up with different events and festivals in the fall. Choose a central location, like Zero George Street, where nearly everything is right at your fingertips, especially with the hotel’s complimentary bikes. In addition to all that the city has to offer, you’ll enjoy the charm of the restored historic building and downtime with your love in it’s cozy courtyards with views of the harbor.

Napa Valley, California
If you and your new hubby are wine lovers, Napa Valley is an unforgettable place to spend your post-wedding one-on-one time, especially in the fall. Peak seasons for wine country are September through November and March through May, but honeymooning in the later months means you are also there for harvest season.

Heading to the vineyards during the harvest means you not only get to taste seemingly endless amounts of wine in gorgeous settings, but you can also participate in the harvest, stomping grapes and bottling your own wine to take home as a memento. According to Travel and Leisure, Napa also boasts one of America’s most romantic hotels, The Carneros Resort and Spa, so the infamous California locale leaves no stone unturned when it comes to a fabulous fall honeymoon.

Christine Donee Photography

Big Sur, California
Of course, wine country is alluring, but other stunning California locations also have a lot to offer up in the relaxation and romance department, most notably, Big Sur. Heading north and then high above the coast affords you the most picturesque views of the Pacific, optimal stargazing and just the right amount of disconnect from the outside world.

In September and October, days are still warm with cool, clear nights, perfect for spending time fireside and taking in the scenery. Like its Napa Valley counterpart, Big Sur is also home to one of the country’s most romantic hotels, Post Ranch Inn. With cottages that boast floor to ceiling windows for views of the coast and the mountains, wood burning fireplaces and private decks and spa tubs you never need to leave your own personal oasis to experience the best of northern California. However, if you decide to venture out, you can drive up and down the coast in one of the inn’s convertibles- the restaurant will even prepare you a picnic for your journey!

The Alphabet Islands
If you love cooler temps and golden foliage enough to tie the knot in the fall but are still looking for a tropical honeymoon, look no further than the ABC Islands. The Caribbean islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao are magical in that they boast near perfect, tropical beach weather all year round. Aruba, also known as “One Happy Island” due to its spectacularly lucky coordinates that place it just outside the hurricane belt, has the best year-round weather.

With an average temperature of 82 degrees, the most recorded sunny days in all of the Caribbean each year and some of the best beaches in the world, the “A” island will not disappoint if you’re hoping for a romantic week on the beach. For the ultimate combination of public sun bathing and private snuggle time with your boo, book a room at the Ritz Carlton on Palm Beach, the island’s most famous sands, where each room offers a private balcony.

Paris, France
One of the best things about Paris (as if anybody could ever pick just one thing!) is that there is truly never a bad time to visit the city of love. Fall brings with it crisp air, weather that is ideal for strolling the gardens or sitting at an infamous street cafe in a sweater and light jacket.

The city also has an authentic feel you don’t get in the summer months, as the native Parisians have found their way back to the city from their summer holidays. All-in-all the city of love may be even more romantic when cozied up at a cafe with a bottle of wine or sipping hot chocolate while discovering the various gardens, whose fall foliage rivals anywhere else in the world.

Budapest, Hungary
When it comes to European honeymoons, Budapest is not often the first city that comes to mind, but it is a hidden gem with so much to offer. Summer temperatures in this eastern European city can be stifling, but come September and October, the weather is near perfection and optimal for enjoying the famed thermal baths with your newly betrothed.

Autumn also brings with it loads of festivals and music events, so in addition to the breathtaking sight seeing opportunities, you can also enjoy Hungarian wines, musicians and pastries in the streets with your forever travel buddy. Both romance and adventure await!

Could fall be the new wedding season?! It sure has a lot to offer, not only in terms of walking down the aisle, but also when thinking about where you will jet off to for post-marriage bliss. Whatever you decide, there are plenty of options for you to enjoy your autumn honeymoon with your love.

If You Need Convincing to Get Married in Bali, Check Out This Wedding

This Bride’s advice for those considering a destination wedding is right on point: “Absolutely go for it! Most couples comment that the day flies by too quickly, and that they don’t have enough time to take it all in, but with a destination wedding, you can bask in the celebration and the excitement for days.” If you need any more convincing on the glories of a Bali celebration, check out the photos by Terralogical of their special day, planned by Cher Ange Weddings + Events. Plus, Flipmax shared the amazing film, waiting for you below!

[iframe http://www.youtube.com/embed/oj2Bn1Gx4zk 600 338]

From the Bride… We chose to have our destination wedding in Bali in the hope that the celebrations and fun with our family and friends would last longer than the wedding day alone, and we’re happy to report we smashed that brief! We chose Villa the Sanctuary in Canggu, Bali for its spectacular grounds and facilities and also because of its ability to accommodate a select few of our closest family members so they could stay on location with us in pre- and post-wedding day. With poolside cocktails, family dinners, and trips to Finns Beach club, it really doesn’t get much better.

There were so many memorable moments, but one that really stands out for me was the wedding morning – the preparation was completely relaxed, allowing me to take in the magnitude of what this day meant. Veuve champagne flowed whilst Beyoncé’s Lemonade album played…my girls and I had a ball. The evening celebrations were the perfect end to our perfect day. Our dance floor was electric and just so much fun, but a particularly special moment of the evening celebrations was the speeches. The emotion, the tears, and the laughter tied together to create a perfect halo of love around not just us, but all of our family and friends.

Although it was our own event, from as early as the morning preparations through to the last song at our evening celebration, both Luke and I felt like VIP guests. It was magical from start to finish. Afterward Luke and I marveled at just how seamlessly the day had unfolded; we were so impressed that it all ‘just happens’ – it felt like a perfectly orchestrated Hollywood movie production. The day moved and turned behind the scenes and was timed to perfection without interrupting us, and we can only attribute this to our phenomenal planner, Karen, and her team. Their professionalism was flawless, and the attention to detail and styling far exceeded our expectations.

My advice for couples considering a destination wedding is this: Absolutely go for it! Most couples comment that the day flies by too quickly, and that they don’t have enough time to take it all in, but with a destination wedding, you can bask in the celebration and the excitement for days.We are thrilled with our decision and would highly recommend it to others.

My greatest advice to others, which was also passed on to me, is that at different moments throughout the day, try to take a minute to stop and look around, to really just feel in that moment. To help you do this, recite in your head little things like… “I’m eating breakfast on my wedding day,” “I’m getting my hair done on my wedding day,” etc. and take time to look at the flowers on the tables and actively take note of all the detail and special moments. Don’t forget to try all the food, sample the cocktails, and be as present as possible. I found it really helped to form markers in my mind and memory, which helps the day not to pass in a blur.

Rolling Vineyards + Rustic Charm for a Santa Ynez Wedding Day

In the words of Beijos Events, “One of our favorite places to style and plan weddings is none other than Santa Ynez. The light is just super magical against the rolling hills and rows of endless vineyards.” And truth be told, I couldn’t agree more. It’s the setting of some of my favorite SMP weddings and Erin + Chris’ day is no exception. Ryanne Bee photographed and Epoch Productions filmed the pretty and it’s a rustic-chic bride’s dream brought to life.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/224405721 600 338]

When Erin contacted us to help her with her special day we were delighted! As a bride, Erin was a master planner. A dream to work with as she was super organized and knew every detail she wanted to execute. With a beautiful venue like Gainey Vineyard on her side, she made plans to make it a super memorable one. Plus, with Beijos to bounce ideas off of and guide her vision, the day was literally perfect. It was overall rustic, which fit the surroundings.

It brought in a pretty dainty vintage vibe in the signage and tabletop but also had a fun edge to it with the catering and band. All of these elements making it very personal to Erin and Chris becoming “The Roses”. The ceremony space was breathtaking underneath a huge gorgeous oak tree overlooking…you guessed it, the beautiful rolling hills and the endless vineyards! How picturesque this place was!

The flowers fit the scene so well too with soft pinks and olive branch touches. The dance party though…wow! Erin was set on her band from the second she got engaged. Flash Plants, the 80’s tribute band was super entertaining, and the crowd was loving it!

From the couple… Before we started conceptualizing the style, we knew we wanted the whole weekend to feel like us, having our personalities and love shine through. We also wanted to give us and our guests a really really really good time and make it a memorable experience! Our ceremony was very personalized, emotional and heartfelt and our reception was just insanely fun! We felt it struck the perfect balance!

Style-wise I feel like, if Joanna Gaines and Kate Moss had a baby, it would be our wedding. The vibe was romantic and vineyard-chic and we had pops of fun, cool personal touches everywhere. We opted for a soft color palette of blushes, pinks and creams, mixing in olive tree leaf green and wood to play up the location, topping it all off with and an eclectic mix of warm metallics and of course touches of rose gold.

The one advice I would give, is to listen to the advice that everyone tells you – coming out the other side, it’s all true! I didn’t want to believe it, but yes, the day flies by; yes, it’s an out of body experience; yes the day won’t be perfect; yes make time in timeline to just enjoy and party and yes, make sure you eat!

Bringing Glamorous Pink Hues to a Texas Greenhouse

A glamorous greenhouse wedding… did you ever think it possible? Add in every shade of pink and the sweetest Bride and Groom and you get this Texas affair. Held The Greenhouse at Driftwood, it marries Louboutins with cacti and an elegant tented celebration crafted by Two Be Wed and all captured by Michelle Boyd. See the full affair right here.

From the Bride… My inspiration came from two words: organically romantic. To me, organically romantic meant effortless, beautiful, cozy, and intimate details. Once I figured out the theme of my wedding that was when all the design aspects fell into place. I first found my venue, The Greenhouse at Driftwood, through a little blurb on Style Me Pretty. It was the only venue my fiance’ and I visited and it just fit my vision perfectly! I also worked with an amazing wedding planner, Ashley Joseph from Two Be Wed, who happens to be my best friend’s sister. Both Ashley and I were on drill team together in high school and I enjoyed getting to share wedding planning with someone I have known for a long time. I have seen her work and knew she would be able to bring life into my vision! She helped me find some incredibly talented vendors and people to help create the most beautiful, perfect day!

The most important things for me when I was planning were beautiful photography, delicious food, and a fun band. We basically wanted our family and friends to have a great time! I was so excited to be able to find a photographer that fit my style aesthetics and who happened to be the sweetest person I have ever met! And now, I have the most beautiful pictures to remember our special day. I also enjoyed getting to go on food tastings. My husband was most involved in this aspect (haha) and we also included my in-laws which made for a fun day trip to Austin for tastings! Royal Fig Catering was our final choice and they above and beyond delivered on our day! To this day, our family and friends still rave over the food we had on our wedding day! Our band, The Royal Dukes Band, were incredible and it was so fun to see my closest loved ones dancing the night away!

This season of engagement is so fun and is such a sweet time of having your loved ones celebrate you and your soon-to-hubby’s relationship. So, don’t let all the stress of wedding planning and trying to create a Pinterest-worthy wedding get in the way of what matters most! When it all ends, you won’t remember the details of what went wrong or how you didn’t have that incredible center piece. You’ll remember the important things of marrying the love of your life and having your closest friends and family share in one pretty special day.

My favorite memory would definitely have to be when all the toasts were given. I was standing next to my husband, arms locked around each other, and looking out to see the faces of our loved ones surrounding us. We were under this beautiful tent with string lights and candles were lit all around, and it was beautifully cozy and intimate. People were engaged with the speeches; everyone was smiling, laughing, & crying, and we could truly feel the love in the room. I remember thinking how blessed we were to have these people in our lives and that they traveled far and wide to celebrate our marriage. It was truly a special moment and one that I will remember for the rest of my life!

We wanted our ceremony to be intimate and meaningful to both Jon & I. We had taken a pre-marital course through our church in Houston and most of the course was centered around Ephesians 5:22-31. We wanted to center our marriage and our ceremony around that passage as well. Jon & I also wrote our own vows. My older brother, who was in ministry in California, officiated our ceremony and it was so sweet that we got to share that moment with my brother!

This Shindig is Proof That Turning 50 is #GlamorousAF

To celebrate a big birthday milestone, the owner of Superfine Bakery, Andrea Boudewijn threw a #FiftyAF party and the glamour was through the roof. Pairing the casual atmosphere of a gorgeous backyard with insanely chic details like ghost chairs, white and gold table settings, green garlands and cheeky hashtags too, Wink! Event Design along with The Little Branch Florals and onelove photography captured the spirit of being 50 and fabulous.

When Superfine Bakery owner Andrea Boudewijn asked us to craft her 50th birthday celebration, we knew we had to pull out all the stops. Anyone who has met her knows Andrea’s larger than life personality (and laugh), and we wanted to make sure we echoed that. With the help of Town & Country Event Rentals, we created an outdoor dining space that felt like an extension of her Sherman Oaks home on a champagne-sugar high! A 15 foot high free-standing structure was draped in large Edison lights and breezy chiffon. Summers in the valley are HOT HOT HOT, and we wanted to be able to give guests some relief from the evening sun without forsaking that golden hour glow. Ghost chairs flanked espresso stained tables from Circa Vintage Rentals, and lush tabletop rentals from Borrowed BLU set the stage for the perfect dinner party. Andrea has a love of high contrast, and we were excited to play on that by marrying dark espresso with crisp white and gold. But of course the cherry on top was the lush florals crafted by none other than The Little Branch. Pretty tables and finely pressed napkins are one thing, but it’s not a dinner party without some top notch food and drink! Rosie of Stayin’ Gold Craft Cocktails was at the helm of all things boozy, crafting cocktails for guests all evening long, including Andrea’s signature drink the French 50. This refreshing take on the French 75 featured a few of Andrea’s favorites including sparkling rose and crisp gin. *Recipe, additional photographs and tutorial video available for follow-up feature upon request* Chef Louis Pechan of Hundred Miles LA created the most delicious, summer inspired four course menu including an avocado and herb vichyssoise, lobster with peach hollandaise, and of course, perfectly roasted duck.

“Of course you did,” was the response heard round the table of 30 as Andrea revealed her own birthday cake, made by none other than her own hands. And with that, the night descended into a rose champagne sugar rush that sent Andrea into her 50s in style!

Shades of Purple + Flawless Lighting Make for an Enchanting Wedding

Whatever it is, we’re enchanted and know you will be, too, so head to the gallery and don’t forget to press play on Hampton Road Studios!

Feel Awkward in Front of the Camera? Try These 6 Tricks.

When you’re looking back on your wedding photos, the last thing you want to see is an anxious, awkward version of yourself. Sure, you’ll have some jitters before you take that walk down the aisle, but you don’t want those nerves to translate to I hate being in front of the camera. First and foremost, find a photographer that you feel 110% comfortable with. They should be able to help guide you so you don’t feel so posed! Doing an engagement session for practice always helps, too. Then, make sure to keep the tips on hand. You’re going to rock it, gorgeous.

Mind Your Posture

It’s SO easy to forget proper posture! I’m not just talking about slouching—when you’re feeling anxious you can also look too stiff. You want to be relaxed and poised. Before you begin bridal portraits, give yourself a minute to stretch out a bit and literally shake off the nerves. When your photographer is snapping away, make sure to work those shoulders. Your shoulder position can completely change the look of a shot. Push them back for a seriously classy look like the one above. Or, hike them up with your chin to the side for a flirty look.

Look Back

Try the walk-away-and-look-back! It’s easy to get so focused on the lens in front of you that you start to feel less natural and more ahhhh what do I do now?! Your photographer should have plenty of ideas to capture these more organic shots, but the ‘look back’ is always a stunner.

The Sexy Stare

Looking directly into the lens can be one of the most awkward shots. Some of us can’t pull off the sexy stare, but rather end up looking straight up angry. Sound like you? Try doing the subtle smile. Positioning of your hair and face can help, too. Rather than looking straight into the lens, move your head slightly to one side and then bring your eyes back to the camera.

Get Moving

Motion is a great way to allow your photographer to capture the more natural side of you… not quite a candid shot and not quite a still bridal portrait—but that beautiful somewhere in between. Twirl your dress, walk away or toward the lens or run your hand through your hair. All of the above make for amazing snaps.

Laughter is the Best (Wedding Photo) Medicine

We love a good laughter shot! I personally always wonder what the couple was talking about, or what the photographer said when the shot happened. Pretend as if you’re just on a regular ol’ date and keep the conversation going. Those are the kinds of shots that embody the true you.

Practice, Practice, Practice

As mentioned above, an engagement session is a great way to loosen up before the Big Day and get used to being in front of the camera—but you can also practice at home! Try some of the tips above in front of a mirror to get even more comfortable for your debut.

Bringing Bright, Happy Hues to a Modern Ballroom Affair

For this Bride and Groom, a favorite getaway spot proved the perfect backdrop for their biggest day ever. The enchanting Belmond El Encanto in Santa Barbara came to life with the prettiest pops of colorful florals by Camellia Floral Design, elegant paper goods by Copper Willow and fresh, modern details planned by Danae Grace Events. See it all unfold through the lens of Michelle Beller with even more right here.

From the Bride… Living in California, Itai and I always found Santa Barbara to be our getaway oasis. When we got engaged, we instantly knew Santa Barbra was the only place for our wedding. We had fallen in love with the Belmond El Encanto for its enchanting and picturesque setting that is truly out of a fairytale. We knew we wanted the celebration to be fun and festive, and it was important for us to show our guests how special each one of them is to us. I love details, and planning all the special touches that made our wedding truly “ours” excited me. From the welcome bags printed with a map of Santa Barbara and filled with our favorite snacks, to socks made especially for the groom, his dad, and my dad, to guest books commemorating our wedding locale and honeymoon, to my stunning, bright pink bouquet wrapped in my grandmother’s handkerchief, to monogrammed MWI napkins representing my Southern background, and to party favors created from Itai’s mom’s artwork, I relished in making every detail memorable – for us and our friends and family. When I first sat down with Danae Pearce, with Danae Grace Events, my wedding planner, she instantly understood my style and dream design. We really wanted to create something that complimented the El Encanto and its gorgeous ceremony site, including a wisteria-lined lily pond and brick courtyard. Our inspiration became “a timeless, elegant, romantic affair with breathtaking details” full of florals and pops of color. The color palette for the ceremony was blush with pops of pastel tones as it reminded me of spring and romance. For the ballroom reception, we transitioned to bright, vibrant colors accented by greenery and gold tones. Danae was able to capture our inspiration in every fashion. On the day of the wedding, as my dad and I approached the bridge covered with rose petals built over the pond to serve as our aisle, I looked into Itai’s eyes and my heart was full. A bridge covered with rose petals was built over the pond and served as our aisle. The sun shone; it was 75 degrees; gorgeous flowers in shades of blush and pink surrounded us in all directions; and we could feel the love and support as we said our vows in front of those who mean the most to us. After the ceremony we all moved into the ballroom for dinner and dancing. When I walked into the reception, I had never seen prettier, more vibrant florals in my life – Camellia Floral Design had created a floral extravaganza. Our loved ones feted us with memorable toasts, and then the dancing began and went late into the night. The entire evening was everything Itai and I had hoped it would be – elegant, jubilant, and great fun! It was the perfect way to start our forever after. Thank you to Michelle Beller, Artisan Productions, and Eventpaintingbyagnes for capturing the beauty, fun, and love for us to remember and cherish for many years to come!

3 Tips for Curating A Cohesive Wedding Design
Not sure how to bring all of your gorgeous wedding design ideas together? We totally get it.
Between wedding shows, magazines, blogs and Pinterest, there is a TON of inspiration out there. Wedding design can be so daunting and is an area of the planning process many brides struggle with the most. Keep your cool over peonies and place settings as we show you how to have fun (yes FUN) with your wedding design (and save you a few pretty pennies along the way as well)!

Pinning Down Your Pinterest Board
The first step in wedding design is making sense of that Pinterest board you have been swooning over since before you said YES to forever. In most cases, Pinterest boards are a beautiful mess of mixed messages and inspiration. Before you start booking your dream team to execute the wedding of your dreams, you need to lay the groundwork for your design. Is there a consistent color palette, theme or vibe amongst your pinned images? Find the common thread and weed out the rest to keep things fresh and cohesive.
TIP: Be sure to check out the “suggested pin” area next to your Pinterest board for additional inspiration that is in line with your vision!

Mastering Your Mood Board
Now that you have made sense of your Pinterest board, it’s time to put those ideas into a mood board to help translate your vision to vendors. First, pull out color palettes, patterns, and fonts from your favorite images. Then, curate your board down to 10-15 images your design vendors will love you for.
TIP: Don’t be afraid to bring several styles into your mood board! The perfect balance in event design will include a mix of contrasting styles (whimsical with industrial, rustic with romantic, etc).

Breaking Down Your Budget
One of the biggest mistakes you can make when planning your wedding is booking vendors before breaking down your budget. Before you jump into what you want, you need to prioritize what you can actually afford to avoid disappointment. You will find that floral, paper, and rentals dominate your design budget, so be sure to find the magic number for each of these three areas. Once you have the budget set, you can present to vendors (along with your perfected mood board) to make collecting proposals and quotes a snap.
TIP: Be sure to work with your vendors to make your vision work within your budget. Remember that your vendors are experts at what they do and may have alternative ideas for an even more gorgeous outcome.
Remember that event design is a marathon…not a sprint. Take your time and evaluate all options, but don’t overwhelm yourself with too much inspiration. Once you’ve nailed down the details, stop fussing, trust your instincts, and get ready to ooo and ahhh on the day-of.

A Gorgeous Celebration Centered Around Food, Family and Friends

For this Bride and Groom, crafting a day centered around food, family and friends was at the top of their wedding must haves. With the help of A Savvy Event, that wish list became a reality with a celebration built around their Greek and Italian backgrounds set against the beautiful outdoor backdrop of Gundlach Bundschu Winery. From breathtaking family style tables to the most gorgeous portraits, have a look at Anna Lord’s images for the full celebration.

From the Photographer… Nora and Dean… I can’t say enough about them. They’re humble, sweet, incredibly beautiful and their wedding day was filled with special touches for their guests and combined both of their cultures: Italian and Greek. It was really important for the both of them to create a day that intertwined their love of food, family, friends, and each other. Their wedding festivities began at the Nativity of Christ Greek Orthodox Church followed by the reception at Gundlach Bundschu Winery. Nora had mentioned to me that she wanted to ensure that the tables during the reception had the classic Italian look of sharing a meal together; and I think it all turned out perfectly. Their closest family and friends celebrated together amidst the endless vineyards. Something extra special from their day was a surprise that Nora had for her groom. She played the violin for 10 years and Dead had never heard her perform… And has been asking her since they met! Following the introductory toast, she surprised him by playing ‘Love Me Like You Do” by Ellie Goulding with the string ensemble. It was a beautiful moment to be a part of!

Modern + Minimal Bridal Style in the Land of Fire + Ice

Iceland is definitely having a moment, and with its otherworldly landscapes, it’s easy to see why. So when this bridal style editorial landed on my desk, I was swept away. The minimal look of the Bride – with her long, straight locks by Angelica of Nika Vaughan Bridal Artists; dewy, natural makeup; and modern, sleek Sarah Seven dress – created delicious contrast against the stretches of black sand and the impressive lava rocks. Needless to say, gallery by Kyle John Photography will transport you to the the land of fire and ice.

From Linn P. WheelerFor a while it was our dream to do an editorial bridal shoot in Iceland. We had all these ideas, and when the opportunity finally arose, we struck. We did a series of four editorials, each portraying a different aspect of the Icelandic nature that is so vast and different than anything we have ever seen before. As we drove around the island, we would be stunned by how the landscape would change drastically within a few miles – lava fields covered in moss would be resting beneath dormant volcanos, sharp cliffs would rise above the fjords in stark supernatural formations and immediately be contrasted by rolling hills covered in sweeping grass surrounding trickling brooks that would turn into massive waterfalls. To us, it is the most beautiful place on earth.

This was the first shoot in our series of four. It focuses on the softness found in the Icelandic nature, the interplay between these rolling grassy hills and the stunning young woman inhabiting these hills, became a modern and minimalist homage to great classics, a la Wuthering Heights. We wanted our Bride’s look to be simple, clean, and youthful – a reflection of and complement to the natural elements that she is in. We wanted her to appear like an inherent part of the landscape, and the landscape a part of her past, present, and future story as well.
