Austin Garden Wedding at The Vineyards at Chappel Lodge

Want to know exactly how you get this wedding look without breaking the bank? The gorgeous Bride is breaking it ALL down for us below, including 14 ways they saved money. But first, can we all just take a moment to soak in this tree? With the help of Blue Sparrow Events and Sweetwater Stems, this celebration was the perfect balance of splurges and saves—resulting in this pin-worthy gallery captured by Honey Gem Creative.

From the Floral Designer, Sweetwater StemsWe wanted to create floral designs that were truly unique for Ally and Eric – romantic, natural, and timeless. To achieve a garden inspired look, we used a variety of blooms and foliage – including astrantia, ranunculus, roses, scabiosa, blushing bride protea, butterfly ranunculus, pieris japonica, silver dollar eucalyptus, and bouvardia are just a few of the items we selected. We wrapped the bouquets in a wide, dusty blue velvet ribbon – it was perfect! The ceremony space included hand-tied garlands on the chairs along the aisle, and a stunning floral design on the focal tree. We wanted the design to appear as if it were growing in that space, creating that really natural and whimsical look. The reception took place under a beautiful tent adorned with string lighting. To soften the ceiling and create a more warm and inviting vibe, we added loose and natural greenery to the lights – perfect touch! The guest tables included a variety of designs elements including ceramic compotes, candles, geometric terrariums, and gold metal vases. We could not be happier with the overall design for Ally and Eric. It was truly a magical day, and we are so proud to have been a part of making their wedding day so special!

How the couple met… Eric and I met a little over 3 years ago. I was at Punch Bowl Social at the Domain with one of my friends and we were just about to leave when Eric walked in with a couple of his friends. I immediately saw him walk in and couldn’t take my eyes off of him! He was exactly my type and I knew I wanted to talk to him, so I watched him walk around the bar to get a drink and waited to make eye contact. When we did he immediately came over and started talking to us. I felt an instant connection to him and honestly knew I wanted to marry him right then and there. I also found out that Eric and his friends almost didn’t even go to Punch Bowl that night and it was Eric’s last minute decision to stop by before heading home! I truly believe our paths crossed by a chance of fate.

As he was getting my phone number at the end of the night his phone died and he ended up not saving my info! To my surprise I got an instagram message from Eric the next day saying he remembered where I worked and typed in “Blonde Faith Salon Avery Ranch” on google which took him to the website and our employee staff page. During his wedding toast he thanked my boss for including this page because he was able to find my last name and searched for my instagram to get the rest of my number! When we started talking we quickly found out that we were practically neighbors living at The Domain! We had our first date 3 days later and quickly fell in love. We were brought into each others life at the perfect time and fate truly brought us together.

How he proposed… We were in San Diego visiting for a trip and went to Point Loma to the Sunset Cliffs, which is where Eric Proposed. It was so special, romantic and beautiful, the best day of my life.

From the Bride… Getting ready with everyone was such a fun part of the wedding day! I got ready at the venue with my bridesmaids, my mom and mother in law. It was so nice to be able to get ready at the venue and not worry about driving to the ceremony after getting hair and makeup done. If you can get ready at your venue or nearby I for sure recommend it! Make sure to buy waters, snacks like finger sandwhiches, fruit and veggies! And don’t forget the champagne! I gifted my bridesmaids with a cute box they could put all their items in with their initial on them. In each box I had: Kendra Scott Earrings that matched their dress (if you mention you’re getting the earnings for your wedding party you can get a discount on your purchase depending on how many pairs your buying!), a champagne flute that said bridesmaid, maid of honor, or mother of the bride/groom and a pair of silver flip flops to change into later. I also got them silk robes with their names on them. I wanted to get them robes they could wear again, so I choose to put their first names instead of “bridesmaid”. I choose to get robes that matched the color of the dresses and I got my mom and mother in law dark navy colored robes to match the color scheme! I also had the hangers made with their names on them as well!

Choosing the attire for the bridal party was one of the most difficult wedding planning decisions for me. I knew I wanted neutral colors but that was about it. It was hard to make a decision between mis-matched bridesmaid dresses, the suit colors, and the bridesmaid dress colors! Ultimately after reaching out to my photographer and wedding planner (who are both super detail oriented, and a little OCD like me) they helped me make a decision that would look best and flow nicely in photos. Our photographer explained that darker suits always make the dresses pop! So true! Especially against the white dress. And dark colors for groomsmen tend to photograph better and look more “fancy and elegent” She explained her opinion on keeping the groomsmen and groom in the same colors tends to look more cohesive, rather than having the groom in a separate color than the groomsmen. This made me realize I wanted everyone in the same color palettes, because I am lover of all things cohesive! For someone who has her entire closet color coordinated, I don’t know why I was thinking mismatched dresses would work for me… haha. We ended up choosing black suits for the guys and light grey dresses for the bridesmaids! Each bridesmaid got to choose her own neckline, which I loved. They were able to pick a dress that worked best with their body type, and it still looked “mismatched” but with the same colors!

And now….the DRESS! AHH, I miss my dress. I wish it was acceptable to wear it for date night on the weekend. So, I was never one of those people who thought about their wedding dress before getting engaged! So I had no idea what to get, or what style I wanted. But when I tried this one on…I knew! I would recommend trying on all the different styles of dresses until you find one that you like! One of my favorite moments of the day was my bridesmaids “first look” It was so fun to put my dress on and see their reaction! Eric and I didn’t do a first look, so it was really sweet and fun to do something like this with my girls! I loved the lace detail, of my dress and the long train. I added the lace sleeves to match the lace on the dress, and opted for a long veil with lace to match my dress as well!

We got our invitation suite from Minted.com. It was SO easy to use, affordable, and ships fast! They give you 10 free samples, (we ordered like 30 haha) We wanted everything to be cohesive and simple. We used our wedding website for guests to RSVP, and it was a great way to save money on stamps and envelopes! Since we had a smaller guest count I think it worked great. I think guests found it more convenient to RSVP online rather than sending back a response in the mail. One of my favorite decor elements from the day were these marble escort place cards I had made for our head table and the custom seating chart mirror design. I didn’t do assigned seating for each table, instead I did assigned seating for our head table with the escort cards, and then the seating chart mirror to help direct each guest to their assigned table. It saved the headache of assigning each guest to a specific seat, and they got to choose where they sat within their assigned table.

@haleywynndesigns KILLED it on the escort cards and mirror designs. Another awesome thing is being able to use the beautiful mirrors after the wedding! They were super easy to wipe off after the wedding, and look beautiful in our apartment. I got the mirrors from Home Goods! Our florist created the most beautiful floral arrangements and boutonnieres. I wanted simple bridesmaid bouquets, that incorporated the natural elements of our outdoor venue. We had an elegant, tuscan theme for our floral decorations. Since our ceremony site was beautiful, we didn’t have to spend too much to decorate it. Our florist decorated our ceremony tree with a beautiful floral design, and added beautiful greenery to the top of our tent! We created cohesion by adding that greenery to the seating chart, welcome table, and welcome sign. We incorporated a lot of loose greenery, with simple designs for our head tables. We also had little bud vases with simple roses, and candles throughout the reception tables and head table!

I made all of the signage for our wedding from a template on etsy for $10! Click here for the link. I bought the table number frames from amazon, and bought the other frames and easels from Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Marshalls. Instead of a guestbook that we would never look at again, we had custom wine bottles made for guests to sign! Our photo booth was a huge hit! We had a custom marble backdrop (cue the marble escort cards) and I ordered the cutest photo booth props from Amazon from here and here! Such a small investment, that made the night SO fun!

Our wedding planner was a godsend. Having a wedding coordinator for our wedding was the BEST decision. She took so much stress off of us the days leading up to the wedding and the day of. Our wedding wouldn’t have been nearly as beautiful without her.

Our wedding day was without a doubt the best day of my life. During the wedding planning process I worried so much– about all the little details and in the end, it all turned out better than I could have ever imagined. I was so nervous, up until the minute I was standing in front of Eric at the ceremony site. As soon as I was standing in front of him, all of my nerves went away, and I said our vows with confidence and excitement. I have never felt so happy, and joyous in my entire life.

Here are a few ways we saved money on our wedding:

Veil: Purchase your veil from Etsy or from your seamstress. My veil was about $100 vs $400+ at the bridal shop.

Shoes: Again, my shoes were about $60 from Nordstroms. I wore them for 15 minutes and then changed into flip flops. Theres no need to spend $200+ on shoes that you wear for 15 minutes.

Suits: Eric’s suit and the groomsmen suits were all under $250, and they got to keep them. We got them from a local suit shop in Austin! The Black Tux is also a good option!

Pretty Ceremony Site: We saved a lot of money not having to decorate our ceremony site because it was so beautiful even without any added decorations!

Small Bridal Party: Depending on what you are gifting your bridesmaids, and if you’re paying for part of their hair or makeup, I would estimate spending at least $100 per bridesmaid (and thats low). Having only 5 bridesmaids helped us out with our budget as well!

DIY Table numbers, menus, and other signage: Instead of buying table numbers or menus, I downloaded an etsy template and printed them myself using cardstock, and a paper cutter! It cost me about $20.

Inexpensive Invitations: Minted has great options for inexpensive invitations and they usually have discounts during any holiday! Save money on stamps by personally giving the invitation to people you see often.

Linens: My wedding planner from Blue Sparrow Events said that some people spend about $40+ on each table linen! Ours were less than $30 for ALL FIVE of our guest tables combined and they looked beautiful!

Programs: You don’t really need wedding programs. They get thrown away or used as fans

Guest List: We had about 55 people at our wedding. We kept it small by only having very close friends and family at the wedding. We honestly didn’t invite anyone we didn’t have a close relationship with. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Obviously having a small guest count saves money on food. But also allowed us to have fewer guest tables, fewer linens, less floral decor, less alcohol needed, fewer invitations, and more time to spend with each person and the list goes on. Having a smaller wedding was so great if you can swing it!

Catering: We saved money on catering by having a buffet style dinner and having one entree with a pasta as a “side” rather than having 2 entrees!

Cake: We got a very small cake, enough to feed our guest count perfectly, and didn’t save the top tier.

One location: We had our getting ready, ceremony and reception all in one spot. This saved us money on transportation. We didn’t have to hire any transportation other than our getaway limo for our wedding day.

Bachelorette Party: We choose to stay in Austin for my bachelorette party, which saved on travel expenses for sure!

This Peach Julep-Meets-Slushy is The Frozen Drink We All Need

July marks the start of peach season. It’s a month synonymous with hot days and endless barbecues. In order to beat the heat and wow guests, Michael Fawthrop, beverage director at Noyane in Chicago, is sharing his recipe for the ‘Fo Swizzle:’ think adult dippin’ dots, a peach julep and slushy mash-up.

The cocktail is made with flavored “snow” instead of crushed ice to make sure it tastes better as it begins to melt. This boozy treat turns two childhood favorites into a grown-up cosmopolitan julep. Here’s how you can make it at home.

Fo Swizzle

Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 15 minutes
Total time: 25 minutes

Ingredients
For the cocktail:
1.5 oz Suntory Toki Whiskey
1 Barspoon Ginger Syrup (1 part sugar, 1 part ginger juice)
1 Dash Absinthe
3/4 oz water

For the dippin’ dots:
Peach ice cream or yogurt
Plastic sandwich bag
Small piping tip
Garnish
mint leaves

To make peach dippin dots:

Hand-pipe peach ice cream or yogurt onto two cookie sheets. Use a plastic sandwich bag and a small piping tip to create the dots, then freeze to set. Complete instructions here.

To make cocktail:

In a rocks glass, scoop a large spoonful of the dippin’ dots mix as a base and add the whiskey. Swizzle to mix.

Layer another large scoop of the dippin’ dots and the ginger syrup. Swizzle to mix.

Add another large scoop of dippin dots and this time, add in the Absinthe and water. Swizzle to mix.

Repeat the process until full.

Garnish with the sprig of mint.

A 21st Century Gothic Fairytale at Brazos Hall

This isn’t your typical white-on-white country club summer wedding, ladies and gentlemen… this is oh so much more than that. We are genuinely amazed by the sheer creativity and unique personality that’s pouring out of this stunning wedding. Wild Sky Events and Clementine Botanical Art truly brought every detail of the bride’s vision to life with the 21st century gothic fairytale wedding of her DREAMS! Feather & Twine captured every must-see moment of the day, down to the bride and groom’s adorable pup! Keep on reading to take a peak inside the most jaw-droppingly original wedding ever.

What were your style goals for your day?

From the bride.. We wanted a whimsical, gothic 21st century fairytale vibe. Hence, the black cake, black plates, and fairy garden floral design. I wanted to be that gothic fairy princess, thus I chose minimalish makeup and a braided hairstyle to pair with my Alon Livné White long sleeve dress.

How did you want your wedding to FEEL?

We wanted the wedding to feel super relaxed and fun and non-traditional. We really wanted our guests to not have to worry the entire weekend. Thus, we made sure the hotels, rehearsal dinner, welcome party, and wedding venue were all walkable. We wanted our guests to be well fed, so we made sure to pick out a DELICIOUS dinner menu and have ALL the desserts.

What were special details that you infused that may have been fun for guests or for you guys?

The photo booth- getting to look back on all of the goofy pictures was a joy and people were lining up to do it. Also, the neon “The Johnson’s” sign was a real hit: it was a great photo op location and we love our photos with the sign. We now have it hanging in our home! The dessert selection was also a treat: it allowed everyone to sample a plethora of delicious goodies from Feathers and Frosting along with the heavenly carrot cake. I have a HUGE sweet tooth and wanted the guests to enjoy lots of goodies.

Most memorable moment?

The most memorable moment was walking down the aisle and seeing all of our friends and family gathered together with the biggest smiles on their faces. The sun was shining down the aisle, the guitarist was playing my favorite song, and the flowers were perfect, it was pure perfection. Marrying my best friend was the best day of my life.

Any advice to brides?

Start early and front end load. Planning a wedding is stressful enough without procrastinating. The best thing I did for myself was getting the vast majority of things taken care of months in advance- from selecting the vendors (I reserved the venue the day after we got engaged) to buying a dress and getting it altered, do it early so you have less to worry about as the big day gets closer.

Any mistakes you made or things you would have done differently?

I would have spent more time taking care of myself on the actual day. I stayed up to late dancing at my welcome party the night before the wedding, didn’t drink enough water the entire weekend, definitely didn’t get enough sleep, so by Sunday I felt like I had been run over by a truck. It was the best weekend of my life, but I wish I had spent a little more time drinking water. With that said, I’ve never had so much fun and everything was truly perfect.

Blush & Navy Spring Wedding at Brandywine Manor House

Ashley and Chris are a duo after my own heart… their love for Sunday brunch inspired their wedding day celebration at Brandywine Manor House. The barn added a layer of rustic romance, complete with a perfectly blushing palette. Take a peek below to let this sweet day inspire your own, within the gorgeous imagery of Erika Brown.

From the Bride, Ashley Cowan… My husband (Chris) and I are both morning people and LOVE Sunday Brunch. We also love hiking and the outdoors so the beautiful landscape of Brandywine Manor House was perfect for us. The barn offered a natural and rustic setting amidst gorgeous outdoor landscape.

Even though the wedding ceremony could not be outside, we were able to use the barn, lake, trees, and spring growth for the backdrop of our special day.

In the decor, we tried to bring in BRUNCH everywhere we could—coffee beans in the place card display, fruit in the centerpieces, and of course gourmet favorites from the best of both breakfast and lunch, of course! (This included doughnuts for dessert and wedding cake flavors of orange and lemon-blueberry with cinnamon buttercream!)

I wanted the colors to be romantic, light, and airy to contrast the rich of the barn and blend with the beauty of spring. We knew from the moment we booked our wedding, we wanted to secure out photographer who has a special gift of capturing light, romance, and love.

Modernly Elegant Wedding at Inn at Rancho Santa Fe & Brick San Diego

There are some couples you can’t help but stare at, and Aubrey and Ash are one of them. Their sweet California soiree captured by Natalie Bray and planned by Amy Mancuso is just as lovely as they are, and comes complete with one ridiculously beautiful Calla Blanche dress, for starters. Make your way to the full gallery for even more.

From Natalie BrayOn a gorgeous day in Southern California an adorable couple said “I do”. Ash and Aubrey met and it was “love at first site” and a year later they were wed. If you believe in fairytales this is as close to it as you can get. The couple wanted an elegant affair with a modern twist. Colors of cream and green accented both venues beautifully with just the right amount of oooh la la. Aubrey went dress shopping first and found the most amazing Calla Blanche gown. It fit her perfectly and the details were truly jaw dropping. She chose a muted pink tone for her bridesmaids dresses with green and white florals to accent.

The ceremony was outdoors with a lovely circular arch draped in roses and greenery wonderfully by Rae Florae. With the groom’s father officiating, it was an extra special touch for him to wed the two of them. The couple chose a classic Rolls Royce as there grand entrance car to the reception site. It was incredibly fun and elegant to see them arrive in. The guests were very excited to cheer them on.

BRICK was their reception venue and it is a modern venue and was a blank slate for the couple to create vignettes with vines hanging from the ceiling, white fabric draped, and lots of white furniture to accent the color scheme. Truly a beautiful modern design. Everyone had a fabulous time and danced the night way.

A City Escape To The County Cabin

Clean lines, minimalist decor, and bold pops of color make this modern farmhouse, the dream house, for interior designer, Tania Kolesnik and her architect husband, Dustin Coldicott. With the pair’s background, the ‘dream home’ meant open spaces, natural light, and a seamless flow between indoors and outdoors. This design savvy duo made a spontaneous decision to swap city life for the country and have continued to fuel their passions with their business, County Collective. Take a step inside and see how they are officially living the dream!

Just over three years ago my husband Dustin and I traded the city life for a dream to move out to the country to build our own home. We started by purchasing a three acre lot from our now neighbor on a whim in the dead of Winter. With Dustin being in the design and architectural field, we were able to get going on dreaming up the perfect design for our family!

We knew we wanted to prioritize open, communal areas with plenty of natural light and an indoor/outdoor living feature. The house itself is three bedroom and three bath. We loved the idea of building off an idea of honoring the clean lines and simple shape of a more modern farmhouse, but with a Scandinavian twist. We kept everything but the interior and exterior of the house in simple black and white, using unconventional applications throughout the place to inject fun pops of color.

We kept the floors and wall colors neutral throughout the house, however, we decided on a rich cool toned green and blush cabinetry for our kitchen. Pairing it with matte black fixtures and appliances was a great way to keep the space sophisticated and tie in the two colors in a subtle way.

Decor wise, we used pieces strategically to not only divide the space into different areas, but also to bring some of our personality into the space. Balancing the overall room with more natural feeling pieces, like our kitchen table, woodturning stove and our sectional, with vibrant elements like our velvet mustard arm chairs & sleek bar stools is a true reflection of our personal styles.

Without a doubt, one of our favorite features of the space is our retractable glass wall! Once the weather is warmer here in Canada, we love opening up the space to our outdoor living area with ease. We spend most of our times in the Summer on the back porch. We used a composite for the decking material, solid glass rails as to not obstruct the view and monochromatic outdoor furniture for a very relaxed, inviting feel.

Our master suite is a work in progress but a real retreat at the end of a long day. We’ve kept things very neutral, rustic and serene feeling to help us unwind. We’re still trying to finalize art and a few details but are tempted to leave our beloved, color pieces casually resting on our bedsides. I love the undone feeling of the space and how much natural light shines through each morning.

Our master bathroom is by far my favorite room in the house. Even though the space is entirely white with black accents, I love how we were able to make some bold design choices. The full wall of herringbone tiles brings so much interest to the space! We wanted to keep things airy so we designed a glass wall shower enclosure that incorporates matte black framing accents similar to the windows. Our cast iron farm style sink was a chance we took but we couldn’t be happier with how it pulled the space together! Our tub is a dream come true and the muted brass fixtures throughout brings just the right amount of interest to break up the space!

Our daughter Magnolia’s room is a space of her very own! We started the design with a beautiful vintage rug and rattan day bed, but she truly made the rest her very own. We decided on the beautiful woven rainbow wall hanging to ground the space and she was adamant to feature her favorite photo of her & her dad in the space! She loves finding little keepsakes to put on display in her room and it’s been wonderful to watch her cultivate her own sense of style. This fun, not too girly, space is a true representation of all her magic!

Our main living area is the center of our home and where we spend the most time as a family. We also created a space for the kids to feel at home and welcome in our family living area. We love to see signs of them throughout our home and creating a little nook just for them was such a pleasure.

Our home is a place where we can truly be ourselves. It is such a blessing to have a space that feels like a perfect representation of who we are, and our style. Having beautiful beaches, wineries, small makers, endless culture and incredible restaurants just minutes from us has made our move nothing but amazing. We feel so blessed to see our dreams come true before our eyes and the chance to share it makes it all the more special for our family. Since moving out to Prince Edward County we’ve started our very own company called County Collective. We’ve been so thankful for the opportunity to provide design services, retail rental opportunities and host short term rentals in our growing number of spaces!

Indian Fusion Wedding on the Mediterranean Coast at Château De Castellaras

Sita and Edward, you are gorgeous. Your smiles are magnetic and I can only imagine that every single person who celebrated your wedding day with you felt the incredible love that seems to beam from within your souls. From our own virtual experience of this day planned by Lavender and Rose, the view isn’t too shabby—thanks to Caught the Light for getting just the right angles, all the glowing grins and every beautiful moment of this sweet union.

From Lavender and Rose… Sita and Edward’s Indian fusion wedding took place at a hilltop Château on the French Riviera overlooking the Mediterranean coastline. The first time we met the couple we were extremely excited about working with them to create a wedding that represented both of their cultures combined with their love of the South of France.

The wedding day began with a Baraat procession during which the groom arrived into the Château courtyard accompanied by his sister lead by an Indian Dhol drummer. The Baraat represents the joining of the bride and groom’s families and is always a very festive moment in a Hindu ceremony. Instead of arriving on an elephant or a white horse which is often the tradition, Edward the groom wanted to use a classic French car, so a vintage Citroen Traction was chosen for the occasion.

Accompanied by a sitar & tabla duo, the maid of honour and bridesmaids processed into the ceremony area holding intense instead of bouquets. The bride Sita looked absolutely stunning in her gorgeous beaded gown by famous Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee Sita flew out to India with her mother to source her ceremony gown and dramatic ball gown reception dress. Edward worked with London-based designers for his bespoke ceremony and reception attire.

Out team had a lot of fun sourcing all of the accessories necessary for the Hindu ceremony, from puffed rice, honey, fruits and milk to fire wood, bamboo sticks, coins and floral garlands.

The almond green, blush and gold colour palette was present from the ceremony through to the dinner décor and of course the gorgeous outfits worn by the bridal party. With Italian floral designer Mariella Aprosio, we designed an elegant Mandap structure for the ceremony with cascading flowers and greenery with the full intention of moving away from the habitual gold and red colours typically used for Hindu ceremonies.

The ceremony programmes featured a quote from the novel “Tender is the Night”, one of the most celebrated works of Scott Fitzgerald, inspired by the time he spent on the Côte d’Azur during the Roaring Twenties. The invitations, menus and escort card display featured a 20s style peacock motif, as an ode both to this glamorous era during which the French Riviera gained massive popularity and also as a reminder of Sita’s Indian heritage.

Almond green table linens, 20s inspired crystal accessories and tableware were selected to create the atmosphere of a sumptuous garden party with at the centre the “pièce maîtresse”… the top table with white pergola structure and hanging crystal chandeliers.

Upon entering dinner, Sita and Edward’s first dance was executed with grace and skill to the sounds of “Stars Fell On Alabama” performed by the wedding band Lizzy & The Gentlemen. After a 5 course French gastronomic menu, the guests moved to the Château courtyard for the afterparty where they enjoyed a variety of gin-based cocktails inspired by the bride and groom’s favourite gin bars in London.

Sita and Ed were an absolute joy to work with, we have kept in touch since the wedding and have been to London to see them where we enjoyed a delicious Indian meal together in one of the couple’s favourite restaurants Chutney Mary. We hope to see them back in the South of France this summer for their 1 year anniversary.

Ethereal France Destination Wedding at Chateau de Varennes

I do a fair share of stalking my wedding vendor crushes on Insta and two of them, Sinclair & Moore and O’Malley Photographers just so happen to have made this dreamy destination soiree come to life. I’m also quite certain that I watched all the behind the scenes IG stories with @sinclairandmoore of this exact wedding while it was happening. And friends, ohhh, is it charming beyond words. The florals, the “kissing swing”, the dress, the chateau, the ceremony, the getaway car… all. of. the. above.

From O’Malley PhotographersFelicia and Hadley met in Stockholm but it wasn’t long before Felicia left everything she knew and followed her heart to NYC to be with Hadley. Once engaged, with family and friends spread across the globe (she is Swedish and he is Chinese), it was obvious they should hold their celebration in the beautiful rolling hills of France, a gorgeous central spot for everyone to come together and celebrate.

The couple rented out Chateau de Varennes for the week and enjoyed the tranquility of the private chateau, as well as the sun and wine in the surrounding area. The overall theme of their wedding was romantic-ethereal and this feel was achieved perfectly with elements such as custom illustration and calligraphy by Sally Balt of la Happy and lush, seasonal botanicals by Sinclair & Moore. From the floral-adorned getting ready suite to the lush floral ceremony backdrop and “kissing swing”, everything was thoughtfully planned out to create a gorgeous, intimate and celebratory atmosphere for all of the guests. Felicia and Hadley were incredible hosts, throwing various wine tastings and parties throughout the week including a welcome dinner and farewell brunch to see off all their guests the day after the wedding.

One sweet moment on the wedding day was when Felicia’s father said “their love was in the making for centuries” and everyone present knew this was true of the couple. This wedding truly was a joyous celebration of two individuals and families coming together for the rest of time.

When neutral is anything but plain… be still our classic-meets-whimsical loving hearts! This absolutely stunning wedding inspiration, designed by Callista & Company and photographed by The Ganeys (talk about a dream team) hits everything on our wedding wish-list including romantic blooms by another favorite Gather Design Company and a fairytale garden-like ceremony space. The incredibly enchanting and old world venue, Chateau Lill, bodes well with the contemporary design feel and we adore the unique lattice installation behind the head table in the reception space – so beautiful! If you’re looking for a fresh feel to your fall or winter wedding, this is all the inspo you need…

From the photographers, The GaneysThis contemporary chateau editorial was conceptualized and designed by Callista Osborn of Callista & Company and Amy Ly of Gather Design Company.

Our design places a contemporary touch on the old-world charm of Chateau Lill. A clean palette of champagne, ivory, taupe, and umber is accented by the natural greenery surrounding the venue. French linen from La Tavola plus touches of gold are carried throughout, providing a timeless, elegant, yet fresh appeal. With that in mind, cotton paper and embossing was paired with modern fonts within the invitation suite and paper goods by Libby Tipton.

The ceremony space was set up among the vineyards on Chateau Lill’s property. The aisle was bookended by two, lush floral arches. Along the aisle, flowers overflowed as if they were growing alongside the guests’ chairs.

The bride’s Reem Acra gown featured an illusion bodice with intricate lace detailing and the back of the gown featured a elegant bow. Yessie Libby Makeup Artistry created an elegant look with soft waves accented by a floral crystal comb and natural makeup.

Guests entered the reception through a candlelit staircase. With the help of the champagne tower seating chart, friends and family found their places. Amy arranged ranunculus, sweet peas, lilac and roses in architectural yet organic shapes with natural movement and neutral tones. The refined tablescape of immaculately placed glassware, chargers, and flatware was set for the most special of occasions. The four tiered cake, by Honey Crumb Studio, was elegant with a sense of whimsy.

The couple departed Chateau Lill at the end of the evening in a vintage Rolls Royce.

A Modern Gray and Green Miami Wedding at Penthouse Riverside Wharf

Clean, modern and minimalistic – this wedding is all the above and more. The gorgeous bride and groom decided to tie the knot on their 10 year dating anniversary… how romantic is that?! With the help of Roxanne Bellamy and floral design by Anthology Co., the couple’s dream of a modern wedding with subtle Miami flair truly came to life. Don’t miss out on all the stunning details at the full gallery, captured perfectly by Julie Cate!

From the Bride… I was fifteen when I met Kevin. We were both green, full of life, and very ambitious. We officially started dating May 18th, 2008. 10 years later, our love was sweet enough and, to celebrate our anniversary, we got married.

For the wedding, we went back and forth on how we wanted it to look and feel. Because we both grew up in South Florida, we knew instinctively that we wanted to draw inspiration from our surroundings. Lush, tropical greens and an open air vibe topped the list. One of our favorite things to do as a couple is visiting amazing spaces, like the Miami Beach Edition and PAMM and taking in the aesthetics. Both those locations have done an amazing job defining Miami elegance and we wanted to do just that in designing our wedding.

We had an amazing team, hand-picked by Roxanne Bellamy Events, that brought our vision to light. We decided as a couple that we wanted to have our hand in one design element of our wedding so we chose to design our stationery together and absolutely loved the outcome.

From the Planner… Modern + Minimalist is the perfect phrase to describe the aesthetic of Alyssa + Kevin’s wedding. This darling couple have such discerning taste and wanted it to spill over into their event. They chose to incorporate some real Miami flair into their wedding; from a view of the Miami skyline and lush tropical foliage to the nod to the burgeoning art scene to the inherent vibrancy of Miami. I’m always honored to help my couples have the wedding they desire.

A Beautiful Blue and Cream Mountain Wedding at Suncadia Resort

Today, we’re sweeping you away to the mountains of Washington for a classic, intimate wedding captured by O’Malley Photographers with styling + planning by Bridal Bliss and floral design from Kaleb Norman James Design. A ceremony design unlike any other and a color palette that perfectly accents the natural scenery of the mountains – you better believe this wedding is going to absolutely take your breath away! Take it all in here…

From O’Malley PhotographersThis fun and intimate wedding took place in the lush mountains of Washington, overlooking the gorgeous PNW landscape of lakes, mountains and streams. It was the most beautiful setting to tie the knot!

Kaleb, of Kaleb Norman James Design, pulled together Patrick and Caitlin’s vision of getting married at a significant spot to the couple (the grooms family owns a home in the resort) and incorporating the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.

The blues, greys, creams, and greenery that made up the couples color palette perfectly accented the surrounding environment of evergreen trees and deep blue rivers.

With the help of Molly from Bridal Bliss, the couple planned the perfect weekend getaway where their friends and family enjoyed golfing, wine tasting, spas and of course, got to celebrate the union of two wonderful people at the end!

Patrick and Caitlin’s stunning wedding day in the mountains was one we won’t soon forget!

A Gorgeous Mount Hope Farm Wedding Inspired by French Country Décor

Whimsical elegance, seaside romance and New England charm… these are just a few ways to describe this stunning Rhode Island affair captured by the always amazing Sally Pinera and planned by the ever so talented Exquisite Events Design. Trust us, you’ll immediately fall in love with this wedding just like we have! From the bride’s contagious smile and gorgeous gown to the fairytale tented reception covered in heavenly blooms by Flowers by Semia in lavender, cream, misty blue and sandy hues. Don’t miss out on the beautiful words from the bride that will truly make you feel like you were a guest at this gorgeous wedding day! Reveal all the magical details below…

From the Bride, Sierra…Throughout our planning process there was a consistent theme regarding the feel and aesthetic of our wedding – whimsical and elegant. We chose to have just over a 2 year engagement, this was intentional, we wanted to enjoy the planning process and we wanted no detail to go unnoticed. Our décor was rustic elegance. I believe we struck an interesting balance of a New England, seaside setting, with our venue being tucked away, deep within a 200 acre farm, situation on a cove. Our venue was a blank/rustic canvas, yet, we dressed our venue up with a custom tent, which included wood floors, a fabric covered interior and custom lighting. Our colors included a subtle palette of mink grey, lavender, cream, sand, soft greenery, with a pop of misty blues (to match my bridesmaids brilliant gowns!)

I’ve always loved French Country décor, so, our tables and chairs were a nod to warm, old-world inspired rustic décor. We had a mix of round, fabric draped tables with rectangular white-washed farm tables. We had a mix of elegant chairs along with asymmetrical floral center pieces and free-flowing runners with floral surprises running the length of the table. Our florist and planner worked hard to keep an organic theme throughout. We kept stylistic continuity through our color palette and décor; pops of gold with our flat ware, china, chargers and chandeliers; rustic elements with our cork made bars, spruced up with natural greenery; and wine barrel floral entrance pieces, on either side of our tent. A common theme was an appropriate amount of mis-matching and an organic flow to every detail. We wanted our stylistic choices to be soft and unexpected.

The more time you spent in the space, the more you would notice! Ironically enough, we both shared a history with our venue. Being from Rhode Island, I was generally familiar with the farm, but it wasn’t until my college years that I became intimately acquainted with the space. Throughout college I interned for our wonderful wedding planner, Stasia Anthony, with Exquisite Events. During my time with Stasia, I had assisted with one of her weddings at our venue. I immediately fell in love with it! I loved how you could make it your own, yet the natural beauty of the space spoke for itself. The cove felt intimate, secluded, and there were unexpected elements to the space, like their Cove Cabin, where we held our cocktail hour. The Cabin is perched on the cove and is a wooden and stone space with rustic windows and a sizable deck that spills over to a sloping lawn on the waterfront.

This cabin added variety to the venue, creating a unique setting within the greater space. Scott was familiar with the venue for similar reasons. During his summers while at Brown University, Scott catered a couple of events at Mount Hope. Furthermore, Rhode Island (more generally), and specifically, the Greater Newport Area, holds an important place in our hearts. Scott and I met in Newport and spend every summer in the area with family and friends. We felt truly blessed, across the board, to work with such outstanding professionals. Not only were all of our vendors, professional and detail oriented, but you could tell they are truly masters of their craft. To start, none of our vendors would have been a possibility without the recommendation from our unbelievable planner Stasia Anthony. Stasia and team truly are the “dream team”! They are creative, thoughtful and supportive! I also felt extremely lucky to go through this experience with someone I love and respect, from our previous relationship having worked together.

Our other vendors, The Elements (band), Sally Pinera (photographer), Flowers by Semia (florist), Inkspot Crow (videographers), Peak Event Services (rentals), Newport Tent Company (tent), and Russell Morins (caterer). Our vendors work product really speaks for itself! Our band was absolutely electric! They are not only unbelievably talented but the energy and professionalism they bring, makes you feel like you paid to attend an event! Their range and genres ensures music that everyone will love, no matter the generation or musical taste! Our food ingenuity, presentation and taste was out of this world with Russell Morins. Their service is outstanding, detailed yet unobtrusive.

Our florist Semia really set the tone for the event. Semia is one of a kind. She is so passionate and creative her energy is contagious! Semia has such vision. We also share a style with preferences for romantic and unexpected details! Sally Pinera, our photographer, is extravagant. Everything she shoots is a vision. She has an eye for subtle moments, everything she produces feels intimate and untouched. Additionally, her personality and style are both welcoming and disarming, immediately putting us and our family at ease! Lastly, our videographers were incredible. They have such an authentic style. Their footage but possibly more importantly their editing is outstanding. Their music selection and inclusion of personal moments pays homage to every detail, really capturing the feel of the day! Additionally, no one knew they were!

Classic Wedding at Black Swan Lake Private Estate in Calistoga

Raise your hand if you live for a good proposal story?! Well, if you’re raising the roof, then we’ve got a gem for you today. I’m going to let you read it straight from the Bride in her writeup below, but let me just say it involves the Groom disguising their friends as beekeepers and hiring a professional photographer to document the proposal. Thoughtful, check. Adorable, check. Genius, check. If that says anything about how beautiful their wedding day, planned by Bustle Events, turned out then you know you’re in for a treat. Join us right this way for all the goodness captured by Carlie Statsky.

From the Bride… Napa Valley has always been a special place for me and my husband. After dozens of weekend trips to Healdsburg, Sonoma, and Calistoga wine country became even more special when my husband proposed to me one rainy morning at our friends Ranch. It was a surprise engagement and set underneath a giant oak tree that looked over thousands of acres of vineyards. To my surprise my husband had disguised our friends as beekeepers and hired a professional photographer to witness our proposal. Moments after my husband asked me to be his wife our friends, dressed in bee keeper costumes, transcended down a hill with champagne to celebrate with us. Our engagement was simply magical and so special to us both.

We knew without hesitation that we wanted to get married in wine country. It was important to us to make our wedding a unique experience and as magical as our engagement. We fell in love with Black Swan Lake private estate and loved that the owners only had 3 weddings at the property per year. The weeping willows surrounding the lake and gardens sprinkled throughout the property created such natural beauty. We were lucky to find a planner, Erin Taylor from Bustle Events, to help us navigate through the planning process and help us create the wedding of our dreams. Our goal was to use the raw beauty of Black Swan Lake with a juxtaposition of soft colors and a hint of modern design. It was truly a magical day that is hard to put into words.

My father married us and we sped off in my husband’s vintage Shelby Cobra before joining our loved ones to continue the celebrations. Having live music throughout the night was important to us. From a live violinist during our ceremony and cocktail reception, band to dance the night away, and DJ to kick off our silent disco afterparty our wedding day was filled with dancing, laughter, and fun. Each guests escort card was a box of personally selected white props, such as masks, for our guests to put on during our silent disco afterparty (at black swan lake). It was everything we hoped for and more.

From Bustle EventsJohn and Jenna were such a fun couple to design a wedding for. They loved the idea of giving their guests a new experience at each area. We played of the venues natural beauty by utilizing muted tones of nude, dusty rose, white and cream. Black was used as an edgy accent color.

Charlotte from Charlotte & Daughters created the most gorgeous centerpieces with lots of texture and we added in nude color candles for more warmth on the table. The black menus by The Aerialist Press added the sexy. The soft velvet linens felt supremely luxurious and brought a softness to the space.

30,000 Roses Were Used for this Santa Lucia Preserve Wedding

As described by the Bride in her wedding day story, there were several details that made their day uniquely theirs. From incorporating animals into the celebration and asking their guests to adopt them elephants in lieu of gifts to every inch dripping with roses by Eddie Zaratsian (30,000 to be exact), it is truly a fete like no other. Allison Weddings planned it all, while Larissa Cleveland made sure those moments will live on forever in the form of these images. Oh, and incase you missed it, we kicked it all off with the welcome party this morning!

From the Bride… Michael and I met through mutual friends in 2011 and started dating in April of 2012. Michael grew up in Menlo Park and I in Palo Alto and though we didn’t meet until college it was like we had known each other our whole lives. We shared a love for families, friends, bay area sports teams, snow covered mountains, travel and live music. Over the years we have traveled the world together and also built an amazing life at home in Woodside, CA where we happily live with our dog Bear and six chickens. Our wedding was a dream come true and we are thrilled to have started our marriage in such a beautiful and personal way. We are forever grateful for all of the love, support and hard work that everyone around us put in to making the day such a dream come true.

The Santa Lucia Preserve was the first venue that we visited and we absolutely fell in love with the whole venue, especially the redwood grove where the ceremony took place and the barn where the reception was held. Carmel was also an ideal location for us as it gave us the ability to incorporate some of our favorite things we loved into the other events. Having our rehearsal dinner at on the adorable patio at Casanova, a welcome event on the beach and a wedding in a redwood grove really made our wedding weekend feel personal to us.

We knew that we wanted to make our wedding feel unique to us as a couple and my mom was there every step of the way to help us achieve just that. Flowers are something that both my mom and I absolutely love and she found the incredibly talented Mr. Eddie Zaratsian to help make our dream become a reality. He truly transformed both the redwood grove and the barn into a masterpiece dripping with flowers. The flowers not only looked beautiful but they smelled absolutely amazing and he did not miss a single detail. Everything was stunning from the flowers covering the arch that was built for us to get married under, to the flowers hanging from the ceiling of the barn, to the beams and tables draped in flowers, to the flower crowns and baskets for the flower girls and even the flower collar for our dog Bear were perfect.

We knew that we wanted to have live music at our wedding but we also wanted to do something a little less traditional. We found The Hackensaw Boys, a string based band out of Virginia and decided that they would be the perfect fit for cocktail hour and they would even lead the guests on the walk from cocktails to the reception. They were a huge hit that everyone loved including us!

A love for animals is something that Michael and I share and being able to incorporate some throughout our wedding events was really a highlight. My bridal shower was African Safari themed with goats, alpacas, monkeys, alligators, a pig and even camels which Michael road in on. For the wedding day, Santa Lucia Preserve was nice enough to organize having a horse named Teddy come to take pictures with me before the ceremony. We also knew that we wanted to have our own dog (Bear) be a part of the ceremony so she walked down the aisle as the dog of honor. Fun fact: Michael’s rehearsal day activity with his groomsman was golf mine was goat yoga.

After dating for six years we were fortunate enough to have most of the “essential” home items that newly engaged couples need. Therefore, in lieu of gifts we asked our guests to adopt us elephants at The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is incredible elephant orphanage that we fell in love with when we spent time there in 2017. They rescue and rehabilitate orphaned elephants with the intention of reintegrating them back in to the wild. We had the pleasure of experiencing their newborn nursery in Nairobi as well as their location in Tsavo East where the elephants begin the transition to becoming wild again. The experience was incredible and we were honored to be able to make a small contribution to such an amazing organization. My bridesmaids decided to adopt me the orphanage’s resident blind Rhino, Maxwell, as my wedding gift. The orphanage in Nairobi gave Maxwell a forever home because his blindness would prevent him from ever being able to successfully integrate back in to the wild. I have always loved animals (especially ones in need) and this gift could not have been more perfect.

Welcome Party by the Beach at Casanova in Carmel-By-The-Sea

Babes, we’ve got quite the statement celebration coming up this afternoon (teaser: it involves 30,000 roses). Yes, thirty THOUSAND. But the pretty welcome party that preceded is what we’re kicking things off with today. Beach games, comfort food and plenty of smiles to go around, all captured by Larissa Cleveland and planned by Allison Weddings—what better way to start a wedding weekend?

An Unforgettable Wedding Weekend At Jumby Bay Island Resort

The SMP team recently took a little girls trip where we were lucky enough to attend an amazing wedding weekend set in one of the most beautiful, tranquil and undisturbed places in the world – Jumby Bay Island! The island is reachable only by boat and once you arrive, you are left completely breathless by the sparkling sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and the most luxurious resort in all of the Caribbean. Sounds pretty stellar huh? Yeah. It is. So grab your bags and come join us as we take you through the day-by-day itinerary of our wedding weekend at Jumby Bay Island Resort – aka the best destination wedding venue EVER!

Thursday:

It’s the start of the weekend and we have finally arrived to the resort! We were literally blown away when we saw our rooms (well, I guess we should say our ESTATE). Private Residence Morning Glory is a fabulous colonial style villa set in eight private acres of abundant tropical gardens. So, basically, heaven on earth. It offers four suites in the main house, two private cottages, an ocean view, an infinity pool and a private gym. As you can imagine, the interior was just as breathtaking as the estate itself. Later this weekend – the ceremony and reception will both be held at Private Residence Morning Glory’s private white sand beach.

To end the first day in paradise, we attended an amazing welcome dinner at The Estate House, where we enjoyed the most delicious cuisine combining classic fare with modern island flavors. Let’s just say that was one meal we’ll probably remember for the rest of our lives! Foodie couples who are looking for a place to host their wedding weekend event that is as beautiful as the food is delicious – The Estate House is the perfect combo.

Friday:

It’s officially the day before wedding day and to celebrate the upcoming nuptials we enjoyed a day full of the most fun island activities! We started off the morning with yummy smoothies and fresh fruit (the best kind of breakfast) at The Jumby Bay Veranda and after went on an exciting snorkeling trip! After admiring the beautiful marine life of the island, we had a bite for lunch and sipped on some tropical cocktails at The Pool Grille. It was the best way to start the day!

Later that night, it was time for the rehearsal dinner! It was such a unique experience unlike any other rehearsal dinner we’d been to. It started off with cocktails and passed apps at one of the Estate Homes, then we traveled to another Estate Home for the dinner portion of the night! It was pretty out of this world. Fun fact: Private chefs are assigned to each Estate Home, so when you book a home for you and your wedding guests, you have a dedicated staff for the entire weekend!

Saturday:

TODAY IS THE DAY! And boy was it a good one… We began our day getting wedding-ready with morning yoga, coffee and breakfast at The Jumby Bay Veranda. Then later, we decided to try out The Jumby Bay Spa, voted the “Caribbean’s Best Resort Spa 2018”… safe to say it lived up to it’s reputation. The spa treatments combine the use of modern therapeutic practices with ancient healing remedies of the West Indies and African cultures. We all got the Shiro-Abyanga Massage, it was truly a spa experience that can only be had at this one-of-a-kind resort.

The wedding ceremony and reception were sooo incredibly beautiful. They were both held on our private beach of the Private Residence Morning Glory. It was such an intimate and special location to celebrate such a beautiful occasion.

Sunday:

We knew this day had to come eventually, but truth be told, we woke up on Sunday so sad knowing that we had to leave this perfect place! It ended in the most lovely way possible, with a farewell brunch at the private farm on the island. We sipped on fresh mimosas and farm-to-table cuisine, wishing the weekend would never come to an end. We are already so excited to go back to this magical place! Whoever is having their destination wedding weekend at Jumby Bay Island Resort and will kindly send us an invite – consider our bags packed!!

Luxury Airplane Hanger Wedding Complete with a Jet Exit

We’re only two months into 2019, but I’m going to go out on a limb (or should I say wing?!) and say that this fete will claim the most unique wedding venue of the year. When other venue options fell through for Nealy and Adam, they looked to a private airport hanger at Clinton National Airport—and oh, does it wow my friends. Anne-Claire Allen guided their vision through a whimsical design and precise planning, for what I’m was a wedding the guests are still talking about (and will for years). Have a look at Kayla Barker‘s images to experience it all for yourself.

Anne-Claire Allen

From designer and planner Anne-Claire AllenTransforming a 23,000 square-foot raw, private airplane hanger space is one way to create a jaw-dropping and unique wedding, but sure isn’t an easy task! Nealy and Adam knew that they wanted to find an unusual wedding venue in their Central Arkansas hometown, but finding a space that hadn’t been overused or that was too traditional was quite the feat! After several venue options fell through, Nealy and Adam finally received approval to utilize the private airplane hanger connected to the Clinton National Airport! From there, the true planning and design began!

Inspiration was built off of the bride’s epic Monique Lhullier gown that was adorned with rose appliqués as a nod to the lakeside home she grew up in that was covered with roses. After months of planning, the removal of six private jets and three full days of setup, guests were invited into a never before seen wedding venue that transported guests to a magical space full of 20-foot trees, a custom dance-floor and lounge seating risers, an enormous hanging floral chandelier, an epic bar with signature drinks and an excellent Southern-style food throughout the evening.

With a large gospel choir, multiple speciality culinary items, a dress change into an icy blue gown by Elizabeth Fillmore, personalized macarons and even late-night fishbowl drinks, surprises awaited the lucky 400 guests every hour! The JamWOWs band from Dallas, Texas kept everyone on the dance floor until finishing the evening with an acoustic serenade as the hanger doors pulled back to reveal the couples getaway jet. The band’s horn section escorted the couple in true second-line fashion to the runway where they were flown off to their honeymoon as their friends and family cheered in celebration!

Modern Seattle Wedding at Great Hall at Union Station

As O’Malley Photographers explains, “Gorgeous. Grand. Modern. These were a few words Stephanie chose when describing her wedding day…”. Set at the iconic Great Hall at Union Station in Seattle, that’s exactly the vibe of this fete planned and designed by Kaleb Norman James Design. You can almost hear the laughter echoing in this magnificent space, and through every image—here in the full gallery.

From O’Malley PhotographersGorgeous. Grand. Modern. These were a few words Stephanie chose when describing her wedding day at the iconic Great Hall at Union Station in Seattle. Steven and Stephanie are a fun-loving, gorgeous couple and their day reflected just that. The couple incorporated many traditional Nigerian elements as a nod to the groom’s heritage such as “Chin Chin” on the dessert table, traditional Nigerian clothing for the groom’s family (they all used a “family fabric” from Nigeria to have custom outfits made), and a “money spray” where the bride and groom are “showered” with money on the dance floor. Their favors were a sweet nod to Stephanie’s grandma—cookies that she would bake for Stephanie growing up with their story and recipe card. These traditional and memorable elements paired with jaw-dropping styling and florals created by Kaleb Norman James made for a truly grand and memorable day.

A Hauntingly Romantic Wedding at the Graylyn Estate

We love when a bride and groom think outside the typical blush pink and green wedding box and opt for something a little more wild! With a bit of help from Rebecca Rose Events, this gorgeous couple absolutely nailed their “hauntingly romantic” wedding theme. They tied the knot at Graylyn Weddings in front of 400 (yup, 400!) of their closest friends and family surrounded by lush arrangements of fluffy blooms in rich, bold hues. Just waittt until you see the reception captured beautifully by Perry Vaile Photography. We’ll give you a little hint: HANGING. CAKE.

From Rebecca Rose Events… When we first met Hannah and Travis and asked them to describe the way they wanted their wedding to look and feel, their answer gave us chills: “hauntingly romantic”. If something is “haunting”, that means it really stays with you… So we set out to create a sensory experience that was inviting, romantic, and that would leave an incredible impression.

This sweet couple has style in spades. They’re both accomplished hair stylists and and it was such a joy to design for these two artists who appreciate the power of aesthetics! Together we worked to incorporate elements of classic beauty and add in just the right amount of edginess.

Flowers were a huge priority for both the bride and groom, so we incorporated lush, fluffy blooms such as hydrangea, garden roses, and peonies that were rich in color. We paired wine, blush, and soft champagne tones with black and deep grey taper candles and chargers, along with black chargers and gold flatware. There was no shortage of texture or intrigue!

he invitation suite included letterpress and gold foil imprint, as well as custom watercolor illustration, and a unique velluto fabric backing on the invitation card (the same type/texture of fabric used on the tables at the wedding.) We used the suite to introduce a peek at all of the wedding elements guests would experience. The more interesting an invitation suite, the better the turnout… And well, that adage held true, as over 400 guests attended the wedding to celebrate Hannah and Travis!

The ceremony was held on the majestic front lawn of the historic Graylyn Estate, with the manor house in the background. The couple exchanged vows just before sunset and then everyone enjoyed cocktail hour inside the manor house. After cocktail hour, a plated dinner was service inside a large custom tent on the back lawn, followed by dancing and late night snacks under a separate tent.

I can’t quite remember where I recently read this, but it’s something my husband and I agreed was such a fantastic idea. The premise is to never stop dating—to prioritize time together. Every two weeks you go out on a date, every two months you go on a weekend adventure or getaway and every two years you go on a vacation (no kiddos allowed!). Now, I know what you’re probably thinking—this might not be feasible financially, or if you have very small babies, but the concept can easily be adjusted to your own lifestyle. For example, with recently starting a business, my husband and I aren’t in a place financially to hire a baby sitter every two weeks and go out to dinner, let alone take a weekend getaway every two months—but, we are dedicating two hours every week to ‘us’ time even if we can’t go out, we’ll have a movie night! And at least every two months we’ll plan to hire a sitter and go out to dinner. Regularly dedicating time for each other has had such a positive impact on our relationship.

Embrace the Challenging Seasons of Marriage

Unless you’re the .05% of couples who are utterly perfect (truth: that doesn’t exist!), you’re going to have challenges. You may go through seasons of marriage where it feels like you’re on completely separate pages. During these times, it’s easy to point the finger, to place blame and to push one another further away. My husband and I have had a handful of these disconnected seasons in our 13 years, most times around big life events that shook us to the core (deployments, losing jobs, time away for work, becoming parents, etc.). But every single time, (and as cliche as it sounds) when the storm was over, we always came out better on the other side. As we’ve grown and become wiser, we’ve learned a few ways to weather these stormy seasons…

  1. Always look within first and in turn, put one another first. This works every time.
  2. When you find yourself putting blame on your partner or saying something negative, follow that up with a positive… even if it takes you a few days.
  3. Empathize with your partner and validate their feelings.
  4. Show appreciation, on. the. daily. I can’t say this one enough.
  5. Work on your effective listening. Let each other talk for 3-5 minutes without saying a word. It’s transformative.

If you’re going through a particularly challenging season, a marriage counselor or therapist is hugely helpful and not something that should be surrounded with shame. It’s also not a “last resort”. Having done a couple months of counseling with my husband, we looked at it like taking a course for marriage! Those couples who can acknowledge their weaknesses and work on them, are usually stronger for it. There are also counselors out there who offer video appointments (which is what we did), making it easier if you have busy schedules.

Don’t Stop Writing Love Notes

Plain and simple. Never stop telling your partner exactly why you love them and how much you love them. Never stop wanting to see a smile on their face, never underestimate the power of a bathroom mirror post it note, a random Tuesday card, a 3-page long love letter.
