Deep Autumnal Botanicals Under an Epic Sailcloth Tent in Louisiana

I spent five years in the wedding industry as a vendor before meeting Brian. When it came time to plan the design and vision for this celebration, I mainly knew I wanted something unique that felt different from the traditional flow of a wedding weekend since it was technically a “second” wedding for us (more on that below). We ultimately decided to split the celebration into 2 days to allow for both a reverent, more formal, nighttime Mass followed by a seated dinner with a smaller group of guests, but also an afternoon reception. Friday Mass was followed the next day with a larger reception with a live band and a more informal, open-air festival vibe. Brian and I both adore the outdoors and a party while the sun is up (who doesn’t love being in bed by 10 after the age of 30?), so we knew we wanted a daytime dancefloor. I always envisioned having a reception beneath the masts of a sailcloth tent that would allow the sunlight to shine through and the shadows of the iconic Louisiana live oaks to dance upon the canvas top. When Brian’s stepmom offered to host our reception at her property just outside of my hometown, I knew upon the first visit that it was the perfect place to bring this vision to life. From the footprint of the acreage of her home, the floor plan and atmosphere fell seamlessly into place. Having lived all over the world, we wanted to bring the enchantment of being somewhere new together with the nostalgia of home. We shuttled guests in from off-site parking to add to the feeling of being transported into our little daydream of a world that was built with the help of our amazing team of vendors. I often joke that I was born in the wrong era; I am an avid collector of antiques and fascinated by times of old. These influences could be found sprinkled around the event, from antique fixtures and vintage upholstery seating to a renaissance-inspired wall tapestry as the photo booth backdrop and a gold damask valence beneath which guests entered the tent. I was inspired by the elegance of the garden parties held at the palace of Versailles in the 1600s.

Brian and I could be the poster children for the age-old adage, “when you know, you know.” Funnily enough, we never got engaged and were civilly married less than six months after we met. We spontaneously eloped in July of 2023 for personal reasons, two of which were to share an anniversary with his parents (we were wed on their 25th) and to say our vows at a summer home that’d been in my family for decades before it was sold. We exchanged vows in an intimate gathering of a few family members overlooking the Pacific Ocean in La Jolla, California. The ceremony was simple and perfect, but we’d always planned for this second event back home in Louisiana to bring our marriage into the Catholic church and celebrate with our friends and family.

I always dreamt of having a gold veil, and I have long adored Hermoine de Paula’s designs and her team’s incredible handiwork at her London Atelier. In the months before the wedding, we worked together to create a custom heirloom piece that I wore as a veil for our church ceremony and then converted to a cape for the party portion of the weekend. Everything else fashion-wise revolved around this sentimental piece. To complement, I searched for a simple and timeless dress for our Catholic Mass and found the perfect fit in this square-necked, a-line, ivory gown from Revelry. For the party the following day, I wanted something more fun and dance-worthy, and my dress from V. Chapman had all the details I was looking for (and pockets!). My mother-in-law tailored some modifications to their Avery dress to give me the length and sleeves I had in mind, making it truly one-of-a-kind. When the dance floor began to kick off, I changed shoes into bedazzled Betsy Johnson sneakers and then donned a Free People jacket embellished with hand-embroidered patches that read “Still Married” for our sparkler exit. I loved this little detail as an ode to the weekend being the second celebration of our marriage and making it this far already! Above all, I’d say the most special part of my attire was that the veil was complete with our initials and date embroidered amongst the wildflowers. Hermoine de Paula and her team executed my vision to perfection, making it a dream come true for the weekend and even further, a priceless heirloom that we hope will become a tradition for our future family. We hope that our daughters, nieces, or granddaughters can wear it in their special moments for generations to come, leaving their initials and dates in what will one day become a garden of ancestral memories.

Our goal with groomsmen attire for the church portion of the weekend was the same as my dress for Mass – simple and timeless. We wanted the focus of the Mass to remain on the Sacrament and the Eucharist, without anything too extravagant in what we wore that could take away from that intention. With this in mind, Brian chose an ivory tuxedo shirt and jacket with black pants, shoes, and a black cummerbund. His mother-of-pearl shirtlinks and cufflinks matched the ones gifted to his groomsmen, along with his champagne brocade bow tie. For the Saturday reception, he also opted for something more informal and dance-worthy,y as I did, and picked a fun floral patterned blazer with champagne details that complemented my dress and was complete with a pair of retro Air Jordans.

For the girl who can never pick what to eat on a date night, my dream of a wide array of food options came true with a food truck round-up style alcove of eateries serving a range of delicious delights. With friends and family from all over the country (and the world…we had cherished friends from as far away as Australia), it was important to us to showcase the best sips and eats South Louisiana had to offer. We focused on tapas-style portions to encourage a bite of everything! The Southern Spread served up boudin eggrolls, shrimp and grits, grilled cheese flights, and truffle fries. Mr. Buzzy from Barataria Beauties Oyster Co. shucked and served fresh Louisiana oysters on the half shell. The amazing team at Piacere slung Neapolitan-style pies served by the slice (not Cajun, but a nod to my favorite food) and plated an impressive array of artisanal charcuterie boards boasting local honeycomb and jams made by both of our moms. Lastly, for something sweet, it wouldn’t be a Louisiana shindig without a dusting of powdered sugar atop golden brown beignets from under the iconic awning of the Beignet Box. The bar offered guests champagne and a selection of seasonally inspired specialty cocktails, including “The Brian” (a Woodford Reserve old-fashioned), “The Gracie” (an apple cider margarita), and “The Perfect Pear” (a pear vodka martini). Along with these options, we loved having The Tippy Tap, a vintage Italian Piaggio Ape converted to a 6-tap bar, highlighting some of our favorite local craft beers and a variety of wines served in a fashionably memorable style.

In addition to his and hers cocktails, I loved the idea of “his” and “hers” details scattered throughout our reception. I spent a lot of time reflecting on our favorite things and how to incorporate them in the design elements in both big and small ways. I am a fine artist with a past career in stationery design, and I minored in art history in college. Countless details from our invitations to our day-of details called back to this. The benchmark of all of our event design began with a painting titled “A Bouquet” by Clara Peeters, dating back to 1612. Peeters was a founding figure in the history of European still life painting, and the meticulous detail of her work has long served as the epitome of excellence I strive to capture in my work as an artist. Her painting began as the backdrop for our elopement announcement/save the date, and then carried its way to the envelope liners in our formal invitation, and it was the first thing guests saw upon entering our tent in the form of a large freestanding welcome wall. From the palette of Peeters’ painting came the inspiration for all of our floral design. I wanted everything to feel like a still-life painting from the Dutch masters era with lots of cut fruit, elaborate vases and vessels, asymmetrical arrangements, and abundance. The honey bees that playfully buzzed around the floral installations at our reception were just an added bit of happenstance that felt kismet to this vision. I sourced antique art from other master painters (some of my favorites in history) to create a custom floral pattern that was present around the reception, from the chiffon ceiling drapes in the tent to the custom vinyl inserts in our cocktail and pizza bars. My love of historical art even found its way into my wardrobe as both pairs of earrings I wore for the weekend were from The Met Collection’s line of jewelry inspired by historical artifacts. The pearl earrings I wore on Friday for our Mass were a design inspired 17th-century Catholic Rosary from the Philippines, and the chandelidangledled Saturday was reimagined from the Tudor era. I wanted even these tiniest of details to mean something for a weekend that meant too much to us. The vintage stamps on our invitation suite were an “ours” detail, including a nod to Louisiana, my hometown of Lafayette, North Carolina, where Brian and I first called home together, a cardinal for my dad, and different vintage aircraft to nod to Brian’s family’s history in aviation. A forget-me-not was also a prominent flower on the front of our info books as a nod to the first gift Brian ever gave me – a pair of earrings featuring a gorgeous pair of pressed forget-me-nots. Lastly, for the “his” decor, Brian is an avid reader and his favorite book series is The Lord of the Rings, a nod to which could be found on our keepsake matches for guests at the bar. The first book he and I ever read together was The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It has been a tradition of ours ever since to read it every New Year, so illustrated collector’s edition copies (one for him and one for me) served as our guestbook. Ultimately, I loved that around every corner of our weekend was a nod to something special about us or our family, and I think that’s what makes the difference between any other wedding and one that feels distinctly you.

My favorite dessert is my grandmother’s classic yellow cake with her homemade fudge frosting. It is one of the first things I baked for Brian when we started dating, and Maw Maw’s specialty quickly became one of his favorites, too. We were lucky enough to have Maw Maw with us in California for our vows last year, and we all made her cake together for the few family members present for that intimate celebration. As an homage to this family recipe and our original nuptials, our cake was a take on Maw Maw’s classic – a hexagonal white cake layered inside with her fudge frosting and iced with a German schmear-inspired, textured buttercream. To make it even more special, it was baked and decorated by Brian’s mom and her two best friends, and finished off with fresh flowers with the help of my niece and goddaughter, Adeline. Instead of a groom’s cake, Brian requested a staple from his childhood and his all-time favorite sweet treat – his mama’s chocolate chip cookies. Over seven dozen of her tried and true recipes were packaged in custom gold-foiled cookie bags and proved a crowd favorite amongst the options offered on our favor bar. Other options for guests on the favor bar were local honey, washcloths knitted by Brian’s aunt, and individual jars of mulled apple cider jelly and blackberry jam, also jarred with love by Brian’s mom, Beth.

So many special, intentional (and unexpected) moments were sewn throughout our church ceremony and the setlist for the reception the following day. To start, we are the third generation on my paternal side to get married in the church where we wed. We unexpectedly lost my dad 10 years ago, and I have always known I never wanted anyone else to walk me down the Cathedral aisle. This was to save space for him and his influence on my life and faith, often joining me for weekly Mass in that same church when I went to the adjoining elementary school for a few years as a child. To honor him further during my processional, our musicians arranged a special string version of The O’Neill Brothers’ harp melody titled “Angels Watchin,” and it was the most beautiful ode to his spirit beside me. As a nod to mine and Brian’s shared Acadian heritage, a Cajun French rendition of Amazing Grace, “La Grace du Ciel”, was sung during communion, and we had the special honor of serving as Eucharistic Ministers – one of our favorite and most meaningful parts of the weekend. Following the presentation of roses to the Blessed Mother, my dad’s best friend and his wife, who served as our mentor couple for marriage preparation, surprised us with a Papal Blessing from Rome, marking our Mass as truly unforgettable for us. On Saturday, Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. and The Zydeco Twisters brought the house down with an endless playlist of soulful sounds, Motown favorites, and party ballads mixed with just the right amount of zydeco to introduce our out-of-town guests to the splendor of cajun music. In place of a traditional father/daughter dance, I worked with the band to surprise my family by calling them to the dance floor and kicking off the party with Wild Cherry’s “Play That Funky Music” in celebration of my dad’s fun-loving spirit, which we all felt present on the day. The surprise was complete with custom tambourines brought out by my coordinators for the dance,ce and the crowd that read “Shake it like Jerry”. I am so thankful to Rockin’ Dopsie for helping me turn this otherwise dreaded “missing” piece of the reception into a reflection of who my dad was as a person…the life of the party. It made it feel like he was truly there with us all, celebrating together!

When planning the details for the entire weekend, intention and sentimentality were our main focus. We wanted to commemorate familial traditions, honor friends and family members who helped mold us into who we are today, remember those who are no longer with us, and pay tribute to the things that make the blending of our two families unique. Heirlooms could be found around every corner…I wore rings inherited from my maternal grandmother on my right hand on both days. Taper candles held by her silver candelabras lit the head table at our dinner aglow. My necklace was a golden locket gifted to me by my dad on my golden birthday. A special bible from the country where Brian was born could be found on a remembrance table at our reception. Traditions run deep in both of our families, and we try to be the keepers of them wherever we can. It’s important to us to continue them so that the legacy of the family who started them may remain alive for the family we will build together for years to come. To encourage the telling of these traditions, we spent the weeks before the wedding gathering family photos from both sides of our lineage…wedding portraits dating as far back as the late 1910s, film photos showcasing the soft smiles of our great-great-great grandparents, and memorial images of siblings, uncles, and godparents no longer with us. We framed and hung them from the trunk of a huge oak tree. It was there that family members from both sides across multiple generations could be found gathered, sharing stories and memories, both recent and distant, throughout the entire reception. We love that these tales and pivotal people were talked about and a focal point (literally and figuratively) at the start of this new chapter of our families’ stories. It felt like watching our roots joining together as one in real time, and it will always be one of our most cherished parts of the weekend.

One of the most touching moments of the weekend for me was the chance to honor some of the most special men in my life. I surprised my godfather, brother, brother-in-law, stepdad, father-in-law, and my dad’s best friend with a “father figure” first look before Mass. They each received a letter thanking them for the ways they have stepped up for me over the past 10 years since we lost my dad. From giving financial advice to helping me move to fixing cars and being extra present on the hard days without him, they each got a boutonniere to denote their importance and symbolize the beauty of their influence on the woman I have become. No one could ever fill his shoes, but I know my dad was smiling down, knowing these are the men standing in for him when I need him and hugging me tight when I miss him most.

Unintentionally, the weekend we chose for this celebration fell on the 2nd anniversary of the weekend we met. We were introduced at a Friendsgiving house party two years before our Friday night dinner and spent hours talking. So many hours, we’d both long finished our beers and peeled the labels from their bottles, unwilling to retreat from the connection we’d felt. Ever since, Brian has loved to refer to our relationship as love at first conversation. When it came time to design the seating chart for our dinner set for that same night, exactly two years later, I wanted to bring this story of our first interaction to life in the design. When guests entered the venue, they were greeted by a sign describing this same story and shelves of beer bottles with custom labels denoting their table numbers. My florist, Katie, hand-picked a range of the most beautiful single-stem flowers and showcased them with the bottles acting as a vase. Altogether, the seating chart was one of my favorite design elements of the weekend because it felt like a physical manifestation of the story of our start as a couple and the conversations we hoped guests would share on the evening, gathered together to celebrate our next chapter.

The bride was stunned in a sleek Sareh Nouir gown from Stanley Korshak Bridal. The gown had a show stopping chapel train that featured delicate buttons extending all the way down!

The bridesmaids wore matching gowns from Bella Bridesmaids, each in a soft pink that perfectly complemented the wedding’s color palette. The gowns featured bows on the shoulder straps. The bride’s sister, who served as the maid of honor, stood out in a slightly brighter pink one-shoulder gown.

The evening was catered by The Ashton Depot. The couple selected a delicious 3 course meal featuring a duo entree of beef tenderloin and sea bass. The couple also delighted guests halfway through the reception with a bubble bar for a night of endless champagne!

The wedding was a vision of timeless romance, with pink roses and hydrangeas taking center stage in the floral design. These delicate blooms were expertly arranged by Justine’s Flowers. For the reception, tall, elegant centerpieces featuring a mix of white hydrangeas, pale pink roses, and soft greenery stood atop crystal-clear vases, while smaller arrangements of pink and white blooms graced the tables, adding depth and texture. The combination of these beautiful flowers, paired with romantic candlelight and luxurious linens, created an atmosphere that was both intimate and grand.

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]The five-tiered white wedding cake, created by Creme De La Creme Bakery, featured intricate and dainty details. Each tier was adorned with delicate pipping and fine line bows, and included a hand-painted pink monogram. The bride selected a white cake, with decadent chambord cream cheese filling!

In addition to the stunning wedding cake, the couple also had a charming two-tiered groom’s cake toped with a pickup truck. The groom selected a delicious chocolate truffle cake, with salted caramel filling![/field]

The bride and groom delighted guests with a live guest illustrator, Kristyn, of ACA Event Designs. As a thoughtful keepsake, every guest received their personalized sketch to take home!

The head table was an absolute showstopper, thoughtfully designed to create a focal point in the reception space. Specially sourced pink Ginori plates lined the table to accent the monogrammed linen napkins. Each plate was topped with gold calligraphy place cards.

A Wedding Palette Inspired by a Hampton Summer Sunset at Canoe Place

They wanted it to feel like the Hamptons in the summer, without any overt nautical vibes. The color palette was based on the sunset by the beach. The event began with the effortless feeling of being by the shore in the summer, and transitioned into romantic dinner party vibes. They didn’t want their reception to have a ballroom feel, so we added all the layers of fabric draping and rows and rows of candles and lamps to make it feel intimate and romantic. They wanted the dinner and dancing to feel cool, sexy, and fun. The dinner/dancing lighting and draping was probably the most important detail to the bride, Lexie, and we spent a lot of time creating something truly unique to that space.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]They made sure to have a raw bar and lobster rolls during the cocktail hour as a nod to the shore and their love for seafood. Casamigos is their liquor of choice, so for one signature cocktail they did a paloma. For the second, they did a refreshing cucumber elderflower spritz. [/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Flowers were very important to Lexie, and she wanted it to feel lush and bright for the ceremony and cocktail hour. They had a custom crest done which was used in their invitation and drink stir sticks. The petal bar at the ceremony was a mix of pastels florals in those sunset shades, and was a hit. Lexie loves feminine touches, and Love Shack Fancy is one of her favorite places to shop. You could find little touches of that aesthetic throughout – delicate wooden fans with silk pink bows on the ceremony chairs, custom napkins with a coupe tied with a bow, silk pink ribbons hanging from the ceremony chairs. The only nautical tie-in we did was to Canoe Place itself. Their seating chart featured hand lettering on hand painted canoe paddles. At the top they wrote “Canoe feel the love?” We used a vellum butterfly as a place card on each guest’s menu, as butterflies are special to Lexie and her mom.[/field]

It was like stepping into a painting, and we couldn’t be more excited about how it all turned out!

Our wedding planners made sure every detail, from our flowing table linens to the delicate floral arrangements, echoed the romantic vibes of the countryside. We wanted guests to feel like they had stepped into a storybook, with dreamy outdoor settings and warm, inviting spaces. The entire experience was filled with laughter, love, and the magic of Provence—an unforgettable celebration that felt like a dream come true!

After attending the Ondalinda music festival with friends in Careyes, Mexico, we decided to take a few days to relax at one of our favorite romantic stays: the nearby Cuixmala hotel. We both love animals, and Cuixmala is located on a private nature reserve that’s home to zebras, antelopes, crocodiles, sea turtles, and even jaguars. We have always wanted to see a jaguar in the wild, but it’s incredibly rare! On the day of the proposal, we were driving into Cuixmala and a jaguar popped out of the jungle in front of our car… Brenden knew it was a lucky omen for the evening ahead! At sunset, we headed down to the beach where the hotel had set up a private dinner surrounded by candles. Brenden dropped down on one knee and proposed… Of course, Laura said yes!

And, she incorporated accessories with sentimental value — a diamond necklace and earrings that belonged to Brenden’s late mother, and a topaz ring of her late grandmother’s as her “something blue!”

After the ceremony, a cocktail hour was held in the chateau’s courtyard. A floral-printed round bar was constructed in the middle of the courtyard where guests were served craft cocktails like a Lavender Martini and Hibiscus Margarita, as well as champagne and wines from the chateau’s vineyard. And, canapés with a regional focus — like foie gras cromesquis, potato millefeuille, and roasted Provençal style polenta — were passed. Guests were led to dinner on the other side of the chateau via a “second line” parade with a six-person walking brass band leading the charge — a tradition from New Orleans where Brenden spent part of his childhood growing up, and a special place to the couple. The al fresco dinner setting consisted of long rectangular tables underneath suspended chandeliers adorned with dreamy florals, creating a dreamy and intimate atmosphere. Laura and Brenden made their entrance to the classic French song, “Les Champs-Élysées.” For dinner, guests were served their choice of a Caesar-style lobster salad or roasted eggplant with crunchy zucchini, parmesan, red pepper, and basil cream to start. For the main dish, guests enjoyed their choice of beef cheek croquette with tarragon, carrot cream, and fried broccoli or sea bass with orange butter, fennel, and dill.

The florals were truly the heart and soul of our Provence wedding! We had a stunning mix of soft pink, light lavender, and delicate white roses, all arranged in loose, organic styles that mirrored the wild beauty of the region. Each bouquet and centerpiece felt like a little piece of the countryside—effortlessly romantic and bursting with life! And our talented florist incorporated lush greenery to create that dreamy, whimsical vibe, adding depth and texture to our arrangements. The florals weren’t just beautiful; they also filled the air with the intoxicating scents of lavender and roses, creating a sensory experience. To enhance the fairytale atmosphere, the tables and fountain were adorned with cascading blooms, creating a magical focal point. Every floral detail was thoughtfully crafted to reflect the natural beauty of Provence, making our day feel not just elegant but also deeply personal and connected to the enchanting landscape that inspired us!

After dinner, the maid of honor and best man gave humorous, emotional and heartfelt speeches, and Laura and Brenden cut the wedding cake followed by guests enjoying both the cake and a dessert bar spread. An after party awaited guests in the chateau’s restaurant-turned-disco where they danced the night away to the DJ!

The wedding ceremony was set in the beautiful gardens with the chateau as the enchanting backdrop. The aisle was adorned with blush pink, lavender, and white florals leading up to a breathtaking floral wall, creating an elegant and romantic garden atmosphere. A string quartet played as guests arrived at the ceremony and were served champagne as they took their seats. Once the ceremony began, our wedding officiant (a close family friend) had our guests laughing and tearing up with funny stories, anecdotes, and special memories. Laura and Brenden exchanged vows that they each wrote for each other and finished with a kiss and recessional walk down the aisle as the string quartet played “Love Me Like You Do” by Ellie Goulding, with guests tossing white rose petals. Our first dance was to the song “Volare” by Domenico Modugno. We visited his hometown of Polignano a Mare on a getaway to Italy several years prior, where the lyrics to “Volare” (his most famous song) are strung up in lights around town!

After seeing Diane’s stunning portfolio, we knew right away that we had found our wedding photographer! She was such a delight to work with and so incredibly talented — we were blown away by our gorgeous wedding photos… just looking through them, it feels like we get to relive the joy of that day all over again!

After our tasting at the Parker, we knew guests were in for a treat with the food and drink at the wedding. The Parker is known for their lemonade, and fresh lemons, so we had to included a muddled lemon specialty cocktail to highlight that. The sweet corn ravioli that was selected as the vegetarian meal was almost the main dish for every guest- it is out of this world!

Elyse and Danny love color and we worked hard to find a way to include lots of fun color while still keeping to a clean aesthetic. We landed on all white floral with natural greens included while letting the paper product shine with their colors. Every piece was thoughtfully curated and the final look had the clean and modern look they were going for, while still being fun, whimsical, and romantic.

The bride wanted every detail to evoke a sense of classic sophistication, from the formal black-tie attire to the rich, romantic candles that bathed the room in a golden glow. The vibe was intimate yet grand, a celebration of love that felt personal, magical, and unforgettable. By pure coincidence, their love story began in Aspen. They were in Aspen on a weekend trip with friends when Max suggested they go snowmobiling. Brooke is more of an elite shopper than an elite athlete, so she was caught a bit off guard at the snowmobiling activity – but it’s now one of her most cherished memories. After stopping at one of the viewpoints on top of the mountain, Max got down on one knee, Brooke said “yes,” and proceeded to almost crash the snowmobile into a tree shortly after.

As the night continued into an unforgettable after-party at the Caribou Club, Brooke made her final style statement in a short, sparkling custom dress designed by MadebyILA. Each gown reflected her timeless sense of style while capturing the magic and sophistication of the day.

We brought in gold rimmed plates and glassware with flatware that gave the tabletop a bit of vintage flair. Later, Brooke shared a tender father-daughter dance to Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide, a timeless song that evoked emotion and meaning for the special moment. The night was filled with heartfelt speeches from the father of the bride and groom, the mother of the groom, the maid of honor, and the best man, each sharing love, laughter, and cherished memories.

A Colorful Dream by Wedding the Sea on the Balearic Islands

We drew inspiration from the peaches and vibrant bougainvillea that bloom throughout the island, incorporating subtle hints of green in the stationery and napkin prints. Our vision was for the colors to be vibrant blending and complementing the natural landscape of the island.

Dreaming up the design and vibe of our wedding came naturally to us. With Zach being a restaurant owner and talented chef, and me owning a flower shop in the States, we both knew that we wanted our celebration to be intimate, centered around incredible food, and surrounded by nature. Besides having our family and closest friends by our side while celebrating our love, the two most important things to us were creating a space to share as much love with our guests as they’ve shown us throughout our lives together. Our vision was simple yet heartfelt, and we wanted an intimate celebration that blended our love for delicious cuisine and the beauty of nature into one unforgettable evening. We also wanted our guests to feel truly special, especially since many were traveling from the West Coast to join us in our favorite country, Spain. To make the experience one to remember, we planned for our wedding to start at the beach and end in the ocean. The festivities began with welcome cocktails at a beach club, followed by our wedding at a small private villa. We capped off the celebration the day after our wedding with a boat day, exploring the sea, in Formentera.

We both took the month of September off to explore France, Spain, and Morocco. We both fell in love with the Balearic Islands of Spain. One of the highlights of our trip was visiting Formentera, and the boat ride from Ibiza to Formentera was breathtaking. We found ourselves dreaming about bringing our closest friends and family to experience everything we had on that unforgettable, love-filled weekend. On the day of our proposal, we spent hours snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters and searching for the best paella Spain had to offer. We also scouted out our favorite beach on the island that day. As the sun set on our last evening there, Zach proposed. Honestly, I don’t think he had a specific plan for where he’d ask me to spend forever with him—he just knew it had to be in a place that felt special, one we could return to time and time again. Ruinart Brut Rosé champagne quickly became a theme of our trip, and the remainder of our European tour turned into weeks of celebrating our love, sightseeing, and immersing ourselves in the beautiful cultures of that part of the world.

I feel so fortunate to have visited Paris, France, and shopped at Metal Flaque, a boutique known for its stunning collection of bridal gowns. With less than six months to plan our wedding after getting engaged, finding a boutique that offered beautiful gowns off the rack was important to me. So I was so excited to find a dress by Inbar Dror, a renowned Israeli designer who is known for her intricate, detailed bridal gowns. The detailing and simplicity of the gown felt like the perfect choice for our special day.

We decided to surprise our family and only told our siblings on the day of the wedding that they would be walking down the aisle with us. We left our tasting with full hearts and happy bellies, knowing they were the perfect choice for our celebration. Fast forward to our wedding day, we kicked off cocktail hour with our favorite tapas that blended our love for Asian cuisine with Zach’s Lebanese roots. Among the passed hors d’oeuvres were dumplings, patatas bravas, and lamb kafta, delicious bites that reflected our love for food from around the world.. We also customized “his and hers” cocktails, one of which paid tribute to our seven-year-old goldfish, Dottie. Dinner was held under the stars on the lawn with string lights, candlelight, and airy, whimsical florals, Dinner was everything we had dreamed of and more. We wanted the meal to feel like one of the warm, flavorful dinners we cook at home. Being half Venezuelan and half Filipino, I wanted to incorporate cultural traditions, so we surprised my dad with a lechon, a roasted pig that was served tableside. Lechon is known to bring good fortune, and I think it did just that.. The culinary team from Zest Ibiza exceeded every expectation, working closely with us to create a menu that embodied the flavors we love. Everything was served family-style, making our dinner feel extra intimate. The Zest team didn’t stop there, they also provided midnight snacks to ensure our guests left with full bellies. They curated a specialty bar menu featuring our favorite liquors, and we ended the meal with mini fruit tarts, espresso martinis, and special birthday cakes. We celebrated not only our love but also my mom’s 60th birthday and a few other family and friends’ birthdays on our wedding night. It truly was a magical night filled with so much love, joy, and celebration for not only us but the ones we love and hold closest to our hearts.

Our florist was incredible. As the owner of a floral shop that handles large-scale and intimate events, I was excited to find a florist who could mirror my design style. I wanted someone who could complement the surrounding landscape without competing with it, and someone as passionate about mixing unique textures and floral varieties as I am. I found all of that with The Floral Studio Ibiza. Francesca truly brought our vision to life! Our inspiration was peachy tones and the natural bougainvillea found all around Ibiza. We wanted her to draw inspiration from the bougainvillea, its movement, and vibrant peach and fuchsia tones. So that the florals felt like they were complementing the surrounding landscape and design. It was also important to incorporate florals with personal significance and symbolism to us. Roses in honor of my grandma Rose, and tulips to honor Zach’s late grandfather. He had a deep love for tulips and would plant hundreds of thousands of bulbs a year.. Francesca and her team also run a flower farm, so using locally sourced, seasonal florals came naturally to her. She took my ideas and ran with them, going above and beyond to ensure that what she created truly reflected our vision for our special day. As a beautiful surprise, she even sourced my favorite flower, sweet peas! She is one of the sweetest and most talented florists. I will forever be so thankful for the beautiful team created for us.

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]We were going to opt out of a wedding cake however Ben, from Zest Ibiza told us about a Spanish tradition of having a smash cake as our wedding cake and we were all in. The symbolism of a smash cake is supposed to symbolize New Beginnings. He crafted the most delicious pavlova where we got to take a rolling pin and smash and serve the cake to our loved ones together. [/field]

We couldn’t pick just one officiant, so we had two of our closest friends officiate our wedding. It was an easy choice, as we knew they would perfectly express our love and gratitude for one another, as well as for our guests who traveled to Spain to celebrate with us. They both brought so much love and a beautiful perspective of what it means to unite and grow together. We also wrote our vows that reminded us reminding on our seven years of courtship. Having them both lead our ceremony was one of our favorite moments, as we admire them deeply for leading by example and raising beautiful families of their own. For the music, we kept the prelude and ceremony classical, and then brought a more Latin and jazzy vibe to the cocktail hour. The Ibiza String Ensemble provided the beautiful tunes.

There were so many special details throughout our weekend, including the escort cards for our guests. Each card featured a sketch of their birth flower, accompanied by a handwritten note expressing our gratitude and love for them. Another memorable moment was our ‘first look,’ where we shared an intimate moment, then another ‘first look’ with our families before our ceremony.

Our ceremony design was deeply meaningful to us. We wanted to feel surrounded by flowers and our loved ones, so we chose a less traditional setup with an open semi-circle on both sides. This allowed our family to be as close to us as possible while we enjoyed the breathtaking ocean view, all while being surrounded by the most beautiful flowers.

We wanted our family and friends to experience our love for Ibiza, so we shared a stunning sunset view as our welcome party arrived at Experimental Beach Club the day before our wedding. Guests enjoyed cocktails and appetizers, setting the tone for the celebrations ahead. The day after our wedding we rented boats from Coral Yachting, giving everyone the chance to explore the beautiful waterways of Formentera with us. A weekend we will never forget.

Jes, from Proper Fun – “While creating the romantic ambiance for this incredible celebration, we called upon all five senses to create the most memorable experience. We wanted Katie, Jon, and their loved ones to feel as if they were walking on air. Collaborating with Erica and her team, we were able to integrate the right textures, sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile experiences to produce and harmonize with the existing gorgeous setting looking out over the ocean. We used masses of ethereal textures such as Baby’s Breath and Statice for the ceremony, and we gave the reception a bit more substance by using romance blooms and special artisan details such as homemade candles and linens consisting of modern lace provided by Nuage Designs. We framed the Cake and the Band with elements from the ceremony to keep that airy and ethereal feeling throughout the entire love story.”

Katie and Jon like to stay busy, so they got engaged the same day they closed on their first house! After taking the classic “SOLD” photo in front of their new home, Katie opened the front door to a path of rose petals leading to a light-up marquee sign that spelled out “Marry Me” in their new living room. Immediately after the “yes,” their dog Sloan burst into the room after waiting in hiding, scooping the ring box up in her mouth out of uncontrollable excitement. This day started both their wedding planning journey as well as their journey to building a home.

Food & Drink: When Katie goes out to eat, she typically wants to order one of every appetizer on the menu, so her wedding was no different! With the Newport coastline setting the golden scene at cocktail hour, guests were greeted with northeast-inspired passed hors d’oeuvres ranging from clam chowder sippers with clam fritter dippers & crab cakes to tuna tartar spoons and scallops wrapped in bacon. Guests also enjoyed classic vegetable spring rolls, nim chow rolls, edamame hummus cups, and French dip crostinis with garlic-herb au jus. A charcuterie board & raw bar with oysters & shrimp placed atop a visual-display boat rounded out the cocktail hour dining experience. For drinks, guests were offered one of two signature drinks: a Maple Old Fashioned, selected by Jon, or a Spicy Margarita, selected by Katie. Beyond this, there was a wide variety of spirits, wines, beers, seltzers, and champagne. Dinner started with the local field greens salad, with tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, shaved pecorino, fresh herbs, and a balsamic vinaigrette, all accompanied with bread and butter. Guests selected from the Tuscan chicken roulade with artichoke, sun-dried tomato, basil, & balsamic reduction, the slow-braised boneless short ribs with fresh herbs, caramelized pearl onions, crisp bacon, & bordelaise sauce, or the vegetable napoleon with jasmine rice, grilled seasonal vegetables, portobello mushroom & balsamic glaze. Jes from Proper Fun – “We used masses of German Statice and Baby’s Breath for the ceremony to create a very ethereal effect, and then during the reception we wanted to express pure romance while still expressing that ethereal feeling so we incorporated official romance blooms such as: Peonies, Lisianthus, Hydrangeas, Ranunculus, and Orchids. We didn’t use a lot of greens simply because we wanted there to be a dense cloud-like feeling to the arrangement.”

The tables were adorned with crisp linens, but each napkin was situated with a sprig of lavender tied with twine. Jack and Danielle met many years ago when they attended rival high schools and happened to end up at the same party. Jack asked for Danielle’s number and she gave it – but never heard from him! She mentioned she was with a guy who knew me and needed to talk to me. The next voice I heard on the line was Jack. My engagement ring’s center stone is a sapphire, so I wanted our wedding to reflect the ring Isaac proposed to me with. The day of our proposal, Issacs told me he wanted to go out to a nice dinner and then go up to his parents’ house in Kamas, Utah, to see his sister and her family, who were in town from Texas at the time. When we got up to Kamas, instead of taking me to his parents’ immediately, he drove up this little side road to an overlook where we had one of our first dates. He had set up a blanket with various pictures from throughout our relationship, and then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him right as the sun was setting over the green hills surrounding us. It was perfect, and I was delighted it was just the two of us. We took some pictures before finally heading to his parents where to my surprise, all of our friends and family were waiting for us. It was the perfect proposal for us, and I loved how simple it was and that he had all of our favorite people waiting to celebrate with us after we had our moment.

My wedding dress was a corseted ball gown with no embellishments, a sweetheart neckline, buttons down the back, and just enough train to add the drama that I wanted. I decided to wear a ball gown because I felt it was the most flattering cut for my body type and that it helped me feel my best. I am so glad I wore the dress I did and will forever love how it made me feel like a princess.

Isaac had a custom suit made in Ireland, so I wanted the groomsmen’s suits to compliment Isaac’s suit while being separate from it. The groomsmen wore a navy-blue suit while Isaac’s was a midnight blue suit, which I did intentionally to create more depth in my color palate of blues.

I worked with Culinary Crafts to cater my wedding, and they did the most outstanding job of bringing the detail to the food that I wanted. I think food is one of the things people remember most about a wedding, so it was a priority for me to have amazing, memorable food.

Gold Standard Music took over for our reception and played live music all night long!

Exactly What You Should (and Shouldn’t) Put On Your Wedding Invitations

An invitation to a wedding is kind of like your profile picture on a dating app; it’s your first chance to make a great first impression. Invitations are one of the first wedding details your guests will see, so it’s important that it sets the tone. That being said, there are a few do’s and don’ts of wedding invitations that are important for you to keep in mind as you send them out.

Some may seem obvious, but trust us, you’d be surprised what people forget (or decide) to include!

Here’s what you should put on your invitation

Location (city, state and venue address)
If they haven’t already, people will need to make their travel arrangements when they receive your invite. Specifying the state, city and venue location only makes it easier for your guests to get there smoothly.

Date and start time of the wedding
This is important because it can affect when guests may travel into town. If your wedding doesn’t begin until the early evening, that gives people who aren’t too far away the option to travel that morning. However, if your wedding begins in the early afternoon, guests may want to travel the night before. Be as specific as possible so family and friends can plan accordingly.

Wedding website
This is where people will find even more detailed information that won’t fit on the invitation. Things such as registry, accommodations and detailed information about the timeline for the weekend, such as welcome parties or brunches, can be outlined here.

Here’s what you should put on the outer envelope

First and last names of guests invited
This is especially important if you’re only inviting a few members of a household to your wedding. For instance, if you’re having an adults-only wedding, rather than putting “no kids allowed” on the invite, be as specific as possible on the outside of the envelope about who’s invited so there’s no confusion.
EX) Mr. James Sullivan and Mrs. Julie Sullivan

Name of your guest’s plus-one
If you know the name of the your friend or family member’s plus-one, be sure to include their first and last name. If you don’t know what it is, do some snooping or ask the invitee. They’d rather have you ask for clarification than get an invite with no last name. If they don’t have a significant other at the time the invitation goes out, writing “and guest” will work just fine.

Here’s what should go on the reply card

Space for the invitees to write their name
If you’re unsure of the spelling of a guest’s name, this is a great resource to use when making the seating chart or place cards.

Food selection
If you’re having a plated dinner be sure to include all the options guests can order on the reply card so they can mark their preferred choice. You should also leave space for guests to write down any allergies or dietary restrictions they may have.

Space to check yes or no if they can attend
Everyone you invite, no matter if they can come or not, will be sending in a reply card. Be sure to include a YES or NO area to check so guests can let you know.

Here’s what goes on the reply envelope

Stamp
The reply envelope should already be stamped. It’s poor etiquette to make your invitees pay for their own postage.

Address you want the reply card mailed to
Whether you’re collecting replies or it’s a family member, make sure to put the address on the reply card so the invitee isn’t forced to guess where they’re supposed to send it. We recommend not having this address be your work one, you don’t want to be that co-worker.

Here’s what you shouldn’t put on your invitation

Kid-free wedding
Writing out “no kids allowed” on your invitation isn’t the nicest way to let your guests know they can’t bring their little ones. It’s fine if they’re not invited, but it’s important to say so strategically. Instead of printing that, be very specific about who is invited by writing the name of each invitee on the outside envelope.

Your phone number
The last thing you want is giving people the opportunity to call you with questions. Obviously, most of your guests know your phone number, but putting it on the invitation is, well, an invitation for people to reach you at any time. Refer people to the wedding website if they have inquiries.

List of accommodations & pricing
This is information that should live on your website. If you want to include a separate piece of stationery in your invitation suite with these details, that’s up to you, but there’s no need to put it on the main invitation when it would be perfectly appropriate on your website.

Your wedding hashtag

Again, this is a detail that belongs on your website or your Instagram. It takes up unnecessary room and takes the formality of the invitation down a notch.

Overall, excess information that isn’t the wedding venue, date or time, can live on your wedding website.

Growing up British in Dubai, with bridesmaids from five different countries, and marrying an Indian man who spent over 15 years in the U.S., it was inevitable that our wedding would be a beautiful celebration of cultures. We chose Italy as our destination—a neutral venue we both adore for its stunning landscapes and incredible food. As someone obsessed with the ocean, a city on the water was non-negotiable for me. We also wanted a venue that allowed outdoor partying past 11 PM, fireworks, and the ability to bring our chefs for at least one meal. For my husband, serving authentic Indian cuisine was a must. Additionally, we sought a venue with accommodations to simplify logistics for our guests. Our search led us to Puglia, a region we had recently fallen in love with during a weekend getaway. At the time, Puglia wasn’t a popular wedding destination, with limited information online. Over the last 15 months, though, it’s wonderful to see its popularity grow! We decided on a three-day celebration to honor our guests, who traveled from all over the world. The festivities included a welcome evening in a historic square in the city center, a traditional English wedding day at Castello Monaci, and an Indian Sangeet-style party at Chiostro Dei Domenicani. We chose to stay at the Chiostro, as its modern rooms were perfect for hosting our bridal party and close family members.

At Castello Monaci, we served canapés followed by a five-course dinner showcasing the best of Italian cuisine, including burrata, lobster pasta, salt-crusted fish, and lamb chops. Instead of the traditional dessert buffet offered by the castle, we opted for a trio of desserts to be served individually at the table, ensuring a personalized touch while avoiding any potential issues with flies. We used the dessert tables later to serve our wedding cake. For the Indian Sangeet, we flew in MasterChef semi-finalist Arbinder and his team to create an unforgettable dining experience. The Chiostro chefs were incredibly accommodating to them, even assisting in advance to source equipment and ingredients—a monumental effort that was truly worthwhile. The food was nothing short of spectacular!

From Courtney, the bride: The bridesmaid dresses are from Wed2b. I wanted my 2 bridesmaids to feel as confident and as comfortable as possible in their dresses, so while they matched in colour, they had 2 different styles. I chose a deep burgundy colour for my dresses as we were having an autumnal wedding and wanted pops of colour. I also thought the colours would go well with our pink colours flowers we chose, we just wanted as much colour as possible on the day. Both dresses were flowy on the bottom, which meant they kept the ladies cool as we had a beautiful sunny day on our wedding.

From Courtney, the bride: No designer. The groom & groomsmen chose to have the full 3-piece suit, which included a waistcoat that had a pop of blue on the back that they matched with their blue shoes on the day. The groom chose a pink floral tie to match nicely with some of the colours in our flowers, and both groomsmen wore a dark blue tie with hints of burgundy, which meant this tied in nicely with their shoes and bridesmaid dresses. Ben wore cuff links that I had gifted him for the day, which had our initials and wedding date engraved onto them. Ben also wore his watch that I gifted him for his 18th birthday, he wanted to wear it as it’s something special & meaningful.

From Ginevra, the wedding planner: The menu was based on the simplicity of the Tuscan food with a refined touch. The tasty and inviting aperitif was served poolside, set against the breathtaking backdrop of a sunset over the valley. Dinner was a feast for the senses, featuring a pasta course, followed by exquisite ravioli pizzaiola, and crowned with a succulent Chianina beef drizzled with a rich Brunello di Montalcino sauce. Beer, Aperol & Limoncello Spritz were served from sunset till the end of the night party.

From Ginevra, the wedding planner: The flowers used were gerberas, roses, lisianthus, berries, and alstroemeria. The compositions for the ceremony, held in the garden adjacent to the swimming pool, were based on two pedestals on which a pair of Medici-style vases had been placed, according to the bride and groom’s wishes. For dinner, an imperial table had been set up in the courtyard of the 13th century, reproducing the same palette of colours and floral typologies, and had been adorned with taupe candles alternating with elegant and delicate compositions.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t fly out with us all for the wedding, so she wanted to give me special pieces of jewellery for the day, so that I had a special part of her with me. I went for drop pearl earrings and a delicate pearl necklace in white gold. I also wore a fine silver bracelet, which matched the one that my mum wore on the day.

We initially weren’t sure if we wanted to wear full-on gowns, so we took our time exploring different styles. But once we both tried on ball gowns, we realized this is the one time in our lives we could go all out! We chose not to see each other in our dresses before the wedding day, but stayed in sync about which dress we chose. We wanted to make sure the vibes and shades of white wouldn’t clash, and in the end, we felt each dress stood out in its way.

We were fortunate enough to collaborate with the amazing catering team, Command Performance Catering. They impressed our guests with a variety of delicious hors d’oeuvres, an eye-catching bread tower, and a lovely buffet dinner. On a day when so much is in flight, we felt so at ease trusting CPC with our guests’ meals. For a fun and personal touch, we followed the tradition of signature cocktails but added our twist. Instead of ‘his & hers’ drinks, we featured ‘hers & hers’ cocktails as a nod to our queer relationship.

We envisioned our florals to enhance and emphasize our wedding colors and overall vibe, and The Little Branch brought that vision to life. They created simple yet elegant arrangements of all-white florals contrasted against vibrant greenery. Our venue, Maravilla Gardens, offered a natural backdrop during every moment of the wedding that hardly needed any extra decor. The cocktail hour overlooked the hills, and the reception was enveloped in a beautiful canopy surrounded by trees and greenery. We fell in love with Maravilla Gardens from the moment we saw it!

Of course, we wanted our cake to look good, but we especially wanted it to taste good! Lark Cake Shop helped us deliver on both fronts. They offered free cake tastings, and we both immediately chose their Chocolate Cookie Cream Cheese as our favorite. Beyond that, they offered gluten-free and vegan cupcakes to allow us to cater to our guests with dietary restrictions without compromising on flavor or quality.

Despite having an American wedding, we still wanted to incorporate our Middle Eastern and Japanese cultures into our wedding. Our Japanese family folded a thousand origami cranes as part of Japanese tradition to wish the newlyweds good luck and prosperity. On the dance floor, our incredible DJ Chris from Elegant Events Entertainment mixed Afghan songs into our playlist. We taught all of our guests how to dance along, and everyone had a blast! We also had a Chai cart from OChai that perfectly blended our cultures by serving hot chai and iced hojicha. As two brides, we also wanted to stray a bit away from some typical wedding practices. We had one joint “Bridal Party” consisting of all our closest friends, and had our best friend, who had stood by us through our entire coming-out journey, officiate our ceremony. At each guest’s place setting, we included a small favor bag with a custom crossword puzzle. During dinner, guests had the opportunity to collaborate and solve crossword clues with trivia about us as a couple or some of our favorite hobbies, adding a playful and interactive touch to the evening.

We specifically sought out photographers that identified as queer and were grateful enough to work with the amazing team at Apollo Fotografie. They found ways to pose us that felt authentic and genuine and captured our romance and connection without overdone gestures like kissing. They made us feel more comfortable as a couple in front of the camera, and we felt like it showed in the result.

One of our guests’ favorite moments was the opportunity to take a photo with us at the sweetheart table before heading to the buffet dinner. This relatively simple idea ensured our photographer could capture a moment with every guest in attendance.

The bride and groom selected Guidi Lenci, a renowned and historic Florentine catering company, to create a memorable dining experience for their wedding. The menu featured authentic Tuscan flavors, including classic pici pasta with cacio e pepe sauce, topped with freshly shaved truffles. Guests were also treated to pear and pecorino ravioli, inspired by the couple’s favorite Florentine restaurant, Trattoria 4 Leoni, nestled in Piazza della Passera. For the main course, a tender beef filet paired with a rich Brunello wine reduction delighted the attendees. Hayden and Robert’s love for Tuscany was evident in their choice of wine. During a visit to the region to explore venues, they fell in love with the scenic beauty and exceptional wines of the Conte Costanti winery. It was only fitting that they selected Conti Costanti Brunello di Montalcino to perfectly complement their meal. The celebration continued with an incredible cocktail hour and afterparty hosted by Guidi Lenci. Guests enjoyed an open bar featuring creative drinks, including Aperol Spritz cocktails served with a dramatic touch of dry ice.

Known for its serene elegance and timeless charm, the villa was carefully chosen not just for its logistical advantages—Stefano’s Italian roots and a guest list that was half local—but also for its striking blend of grandeur and intimacy. The couple, with their shared love for bold aesthetics and majestic architecture, fell in love with Villa Erba at first sight during their site inspection.

This wedding embodied their spirit: a harmonious mix of classic sophistication and vibrant energy. Their ceremony felt like stepping into a timeless film—the gentle lapping of the lake, the whispers of violins, and the radiant bride gliding down a pristine white aisle. As the day transitioned into night, the atmosphere transformed into something electric, with Afro-inspired rhythms and lively music filling the air. Guests celebrated a love story that felt deeply personal and unapologetically joyful.[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]We had planned a family vacation to Paris to celebrate New Year’s Eve, and Stefano suggested organizing a professional photo shoot while we were there. I thought it was a lovely idea and didn’t suspect a thing.

As we stood in front of the Eiffel Tower, our daughter, Avery, held up a sign that read, “Will you marry me?” For a moment, I was completely speechless, overwhelmed by the romance of it all. Stefano got down on one knee, and I realized this was a moment I’d cherish forever. It was truly magical—I never saw it coming.[/field]

Guests indulged in an artisanal mozzarella bar featuring the finest Italian cheeses, paired with gnocco fritto, sun-dried tomatoes, taggiasche olives, and freshly baked focaccia and grissini. The show-stopping pizza buffet and salumi corner offered even more authentic flavors to enjoy.

The plated courses were a testament to elegance and taste, with a liquid parmesan soufflé and caramelized Martin Sec pears, a golden saffron risotto, and a tender Piedmontese scottata fillet paired with potato millefeuille and a rich red wine sauce.

To end the night on a sweet note, an Italian dessert buffet offered a variety of decadent treats, while a sumptuous midnight snack ensured guests had the energy to keep dancing under the stars.[/field]

The groom’s selection, TSPs (tequila soda pineapples), were simple, delicious, and incredibly popular with the groomsmen. For the meal, they offered a classic wedding menu featuring Caesar salad, flank steak, halibut, and potato-au-gratin. The dessert table was a highlight, with homemade Portland Golf Club ice cream, cookies, and brownies. Afterward, they listened to heartfelt and hilarious speeches and toasted with espresso martinis.[/field]

She also crafted boutonnieres and gorgeous bouquets of white spray roses for the bride and peach spray roses for the maids of honor.[/field]
