Classic Milwaukee Wedding at Villa Terrace

If you can get past the stunning Bride, or the gorgeous Bridesmaid dresses, or the layers of amber colored vases tucked inside this affair, you’ll see all of those sums coming together to create a truly elegant whole. It’s a wedding with an old world feel all captured by Aliza Rae Photography and you can see so much more right here in the full gallery.

From the Bride… We didn’t exactly have a theme for our wedding – the venues that we chose had so much personality that I wanted them to shine. The ceremony site, Villa Terrace, has a beautiful garden and courtyard which inspired me to incorporate that idea into the floral arrangements and bouquets. Throughout our engagement I had collected all of the amber vases, mostly from different antique stores and flea markets in the Milwaukee area. My Mom and Aunt, both who live in Michigan, also contributed to the collection of vases as they found them. I had an amazing florist who worked with the vases and my vision of organic seasonal arrangements – she made everything better and more beautiful than I could have imagined!
I tried to do as much DIY as I could, from the table numbers and escort cards, to the advice hearts and the invitations- we tried to pinch pennies in as many places as possible, so I taught myself calligraphy to address the invitations that we used Photoshop to make and then printed at home- I learned a lot in the process!
From the get-go I knew that I wanted my girls to wear different dresses. To make sure that they still went together, I decided on gold and then found a handful of dresses online from which they could choose, it was actually a very simple process! They looked so beautiful together and I was happy that each of their personalities and style could come through. For the boys we decided to forgo traditional boutonnières in favor of unique pocket squares. I made them myself and pre-folded them a few days ahead of time so that they didn’t have to struggle with them the day of; I think they looked really great!
Nick and I decided to write our own vows, we wanted the ceremony to be very personal and heartfelt and I think we achieved that. I think each of our vows complimented the other so well and the ceremony was my favorite part of the wedding- which says a lot because our reception was a blast! We danced all night and had such a good time with all of our family and friends- most of who came from our home state of Michigan. We had a fairly small wedding- 85 people, but it was the perfect amount to be able to talk to and enjoy everyone. It was the best wedding I could have ever imagined, especially now that I am married to the man of my dreams!

Snowy Old World Wedding Inspiration

I have to admit – I have been seriously craving summer.  But this gorgeous shoot from the lovely state of Wisconsin?  It has me remembering just why winter is so very, very awesome.  A sweet combination of snowy weather, crazy gorgeous colors and a team of talented vendors (think Kate WeinsteinSugar River Stationers and Laura Timmer), it’s the prettiest way ever to spend your Thursday.  See it all here.

From Kate Weinstein Photo… I am excited to share our Snowy Old World Wedding inspiration shoot with you!

Here in Wisconsin, one thing is almost always certain: if it’s winter, we will have snow on the ground. Towards the end of winter, Wisconsinites tend to tire of snow, but all that white really can be a beautiful complement to a bride’s dress and a winter wedding. I wanted the colors of this shoot to play off the white snow and the blue of Milwaukee’s frozen Lake Michigan, and this muted dusty blue, white, and mauve color palette would be perfect for a snowy and romantic winter wedding.

When I think Old World, I think timeless, European-style elegance, and that feeling was the inspiration for this shoot. BHLDN provided their elegant Cypress gown, luxuriously paired with their Effie fur topper. Lizzibeth contributed the jewels to accent the dress worn by our model Katelyn Kosinski, with hair and makeup by Laura Timmer. The Home Market in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward provided the table, table settings, and many of the props seen in the shoot. Sugar River Stationers created the invitation suite, and the flowers were a mix of hellebores (one of the few flowers that bloom in snow!), ranunculus, spray roses, garden roses, tulips, and privet berry.

Thank you so much for considering this submission, and please let me know if I can provide you with any additional information! Stay warm! xo

Classic Military Wedding at Milwaukee’s Pfister Hotel

So girls. I think you’re going to kind of love this wedding. Because the “there is just something sexy about a man in uniform” theory definitely applies. Add to that a girl fit to be a princess, a stunning ballroom backdrop and oh, maybe some of the prettiest pics – shot by The McCartneys – I’ve ever seen and bam. Love gone wild.

From the bride, Jess…When we were planning our wedding, we tried to always keep in the forefront of our minds that we wanted the day to be true to us as a couple. We wanted our wedding to be beautiful, formal but not stuffy, fun, and joyful. It was also important to us to throw a great party for our guests!

We also wanted to showcase the military aspect of the wedding — having our sword detail participate as much as possible was very important!

Without really explicitly talking about it, I think Dom and I had the same vision for our wedding. We wanted the day to be traditional and classic, but wanted to throw in some personality. It ended up being exactly what we wanted…I felt like an absolute princess, straight out of a fairy tale. I think in the end all that really mattered was that we were finally marrying each other, and finally had the opportunity to start living our lives together. The fact that everything and everyone came together in such a beautiful way made the day that much more special and magical.

We did a little bit of DIY, and had a lot of fun with it! I ordered the Save the Dates on Etsy, but had a couple friends over one night and we hand-sewed a thread from Milwaukee to wherever the guest was living to personalize them a bit. I designed the invitations (and had them printed by an incredible family owned letterpress in northern WI) as well as the menu cards. My parents and uncle made the card box for us, and my parents also made our table numbers. We made a customized calendar for our guest book (now we have everyone’s birthdays!). We also framed a bunch of old family photos to put on display – a touch that was very important to us as we wanted to honor the people in our lives that help to bring us to that day!

The parts that stick out in my mind the most, were walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing Dom for the first time, the entire ceremony (we had so much more fun that we thought we would and were so, incredibly impressed with our priest), the hours of time that we had alone together between the ceremony and reception to just reflect on the day and the night ahead, standing on our little balcony watching guests enter the room (and feeling like a princess, once again!), and our first dance. I guess that is the whole day, but those are the moments that play in my mind as the ‘highlight reel’!

If I were to share advice with future brides, I would say.

1. Have fun with it, and don’t take it too seriously! Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice, but stay true to your choices and opinions and don’t second guess yourself once you make a decision. There are so many options out there, you could drive yourself insane!

2. Make sure that you keep in perspective what the wedding is all about – the love that you have for the person you are going to marry – the wedding is just the gateway to your new life together, which ultimately is WAY more important!

3. Do things together — even though Dom was deployed for 6 months of our engagement, we still make decisions together, which was really important.

4. If you’re going on a honeymoon right after the wedding — don’t leave the honeymoon planning to the last minute (it gets a little stressful!!)

We had the most incredible day of our lives, in every way. We still can’t stop talking about it!!

From the photographer… This beautiful styled shoot is from an Italian Villa that rests on the shores of Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, WI (Villa Terrace). Our concept was for the wedding to be at dusk – such a beautiful and magical time of day, and also so fleeting. We conceived of a small intimate wedding where guests entered the villa and made a wish in the courtyard on behalf of the couple. They then walked into the main house, passing thru eucalyptus vines with their placecards scattered among them. It was then down into the garden for a ceremony lovingly ensconced in one of the arched arbors with hanging candles and bent wood chairs. The celebration was topped off with a intimate dinner at a long feasting table on the terrace.

Classic Wedding at Pritzlaff

This wedding is proof that elegance and simplicity never go out of style – at least in our book. And it’s proof that when you mesh a classic color palette, romantic details and a restored warehouse reception venue – you’re left with a day that’s both untraditional and timeless all wrapped into one. Anna Page is to thank for the oh-so-pretty photos, and you can feast your eyes on every moment right over here.

From the Bride… Charlie and I have known each other since middle school, I even had a crush on him then; but he was more focused on sports than girls. So it wasn’t until the summer of our junior year of high school that our relationship began. My parents invited Charlie’s family up to our lake home in Elkhart Lake, WI. It was a day of boating, sun activities and enjoying meals…but Charlie and I managed to spend almost the entire day getting to know each other down at the beach. Fast forward 8 years, and on that same beach 4th of July weekend, Charlie proposed.

We both knew from the start that we wanted something unique for our wedding; which is why when we first stepped foot into the Historic Pritzlaff building nestled in the Milwaukee’s Third Ward we instantly fell in love with this venue. We loved that this restored warehouse, adorning infamous Milwaukee Cream City brick, was a blank slate and a space we could truly make our own. The Pritzlaff is so unique and provided the vintage, rustic and urban feel we were looking for.

Our wedding day was perfect – it was a beautiful and breezy summer day. Downtown Milwaukee was bustling with 4th of July Weekend festivities and we were surrounded by an abundance of our family and friends.

Our bridal party looked amazing. The bridesmaids were outfitted in soft blush chiffon J. Crew dresses that were flowy and feminine. The dresses were accented with nude heels and Stella and Dot earrings. The guys were outrageously handsome in Vera Wang Black Tuxedos with crisp white shirts and shiny black patent leather shoes. All the attendants looked elegant yet comfortable for a day of radiance and dancing!

Our ceremony was held at the beautiful Old Saint Mary Church in downtown Milwaukee. It was the same church where Charlie’s parents were married 27 years ago. We were so blessed to have my childhood priest and dear family friend as the celebrant. He gave the message that marriage was a lot like dancing and that it will be unique to each of us. He encouraged us and all our guests to dance their way through life. Our guests took his message to heart and we all danced the night away – Charlie and I were thrilled to see the dance floor packed the entire night!

One of my favorite memories from our wedding day was our first look. We were overwhelmed with excitement and emotion and Anna Page captured it perfectly. It brings tears to my eyes just reminiscing about sharing that moment with Charlie. Both sets of our parents just happened to witness this exact moment side-by-side. Again, Anna captured their expressive looks of love and contentment. This memory will forever be etched in my mind

Many people told me to take some time during the wedding day to reflect and live in the moment. We did just that. While guests were being seated we quickly escaped to the rooftop of the Pritzlaff building and enjoyed some of the best views of the city both of us call home. It was a beautiful and peaceful moment and one that I will always treasure.

We worked with Shully’s Cuisine to create one of the most spectacular meals we have ever had. Dinners in our households were an experience and that is what we wanted for our wedding. The evening started off with a fabulous outdoor cocktail hour with a spread of various meats, Wisconsin cheeses and oyster shooters (my dad’s favorite!). Our Tuscan themed dinner cuisine was served family style creating a relaxed and fun atmosphere for all. The dishes were served in waves, starting with a fresh Italian summer salad followed by roasted pork loin, shrimp arrabbiata, chicken marsala, sweet summer pea risotto and roasted vegetable pasta stacks. Guests were able to have it all! Not to mention our decadent red velvet cake by The Cake Lady, served alongside an array of petite desserts. For a late night treat we served an assortment of pizza from our favorite college pizza place – Ian’s Pizza.

Our wedding day was better than I could have ever imagined. We are so thankful for the vendors who helped make our wedding day perfect and are so blessed to have shared this day with the people we love most.

Milwaukee Wedding from Heather Cook Elliott Photography

With the raising trend of Gatsby in wedding decor, I’ve come to really, really love the Art Deco feel. It’s a new favorite for sure, but it wasn’t until I saw this modern deco wedding… an updated version of what we would have seen 80 years ago… that I really jumped in with both feet. This bride is a beautiful genius and she rocked her mother’s wedding gown (with a few modern updates, of course). Heather Cook Elliott Photography captured the big day that has stolen my heart, never to give it back.

From the photographer… Laura & Tom are musicians, or at least were when they met in the band at Northwestern, but it wasn’t just a taste for good music that struck me on their wedding day, but rather a taste for good everything. They live and work in Chicago – Tom as an actor and Laura as Jack (Jill) of all trades at a startup – and they love their life in Lincoln Square. So of course they brought some of their new home town sensibility with them when designing their wedding in Laura’s home state of Wisconsin.

They are old souls and love the nostalgia of eras gone by so they wanted their wedding day to be very much a mixture between old and new, an updated version of what one might have seen at a wedding in the 20s and 30s. Laura wore her mother’s wedding gown, redesigned but still reminiscent of her mom’s silhouette and their venue – The Wisconsin Club – is a a glorious relic of an older age. Tom sported a pocket watch and all the ladies wore pearls, but hints of modernity struck me, too. Laura’s black sash and hints of neon green and purple chevrons peeped out here and there. They further mixed modern sensibility and design with old world charm in everything from the wispy, romantic flowers to nostalgic art deco wedding invitations.

The Bridesmaids were dressed in J.Crew chic simplicity and the petite wedding party meandered from the wedding cake architecture of the Wisconsin Club to the grand Church of the Gesu where Laura’s cousin presided over their union. In the crisp air of a looming midwestern autumn Laura & Tom headed to the River that reminds them so much of Chicago’s great water way and then back to the Club where tables were named for L Stops. More little surprises worth mentioning: Laura embroidered messages to bridesmaids in their gifted clutches and Laura & Tom performed a choreographed first dance (with lifts!) They served tasty cobblers and pies in lieu of cake and they simply did things the way they wanted – in good taste, in good fun, in good everything.

From the photographer… Christine & Todd already have a long & winding love story that starts with them becoming best friends in college at Marquette in Milwaukee. It took awhile for them to realize that best-friendship would equal partnership, but once it hit home it really hit home. For the last several years they have lived in his hometown of Chicago where Christine worked downtown and Todd commuted an incredible 70 miles to work and back to her because where she is is where he needs to be. Todd played final four basketball at Marquette, professionally in Europe and is taking the lead in spiriting the two of them off on a new adventure as he recently accepted a new coaching position at a university. And Christine is happy to accompany him, even though it might mean passing the bar in a new state.

Christine & Todd, together and individually, are quite possibly the nicest people I have ever met. They both have huge hearts and know – really know – the meaning of family and its importance. Christine’s sister recently found out she has cancer and was undergoing treatment soon before the wedding. Thankfully she was up to the task of being a matron of honor despite the treatment and was by Christine’s side throughout the day. Todd’s birth and adopted family held him up throughout the wedding, as well, as Todd & Christine formed their own loving, time and trial tested family. I

have to write just a bit about the styling of the day as I was consistently struck by how beautiful, tasteful, delicate and inspired everything was from shoes to flowers, to treats, to music and of course to the gorgeous florals. I loved Christine’s two belts, Todd’s classically embroidered cuffs and I could shoot a pink and gold wedding with the stunning architectural backdrop that is the Milwaukee Art Museum every day of the week. My favorite part of the day was when Christine & Todd took a few moments alone amongst the “ribs” of the MAM’s architecture. He lifted her up onto a ledge and moved close to her. She kicked off her Jimmy Choos and just breathed him in. It was magical – just like their story and their love.

Milwaukee Wedding from Erin Jean Photography

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from poring over dozens upon dozens of weddings here on SMP, it’s this: personalization is key to the perfect day. I’m talking about weddings that feel thoughtful and authentic; where, if nothing else, guests can walk away saying, “That was so them.” And this Midwest affair fits that bill to a pretty little T. Erin Jean Photography captured every eclectic-loving detail, and there’s a million more moments to be swooned sitting right here.

From Erin Jean PhotographyMelissa and Ryan are a modern couple.  It’s a love story of photographer meets teacher.  That produces a beautiful wedding.  They had gorgeous details that scream personality.  It was an urban meets vintage affair.  Dream wedding!  The grooms words were, “this is an etsy wedding!”  From the bow ties to the paper elements surrounding the room, it was a handmade affair.

From the Bride and Groom… Like any other couple anxiously awaiting the day they finally get to marry the one person who makes their heart sing, Melissa and Ryan had a definite vision for their wedding day. Luckily for them, that day became everything they had dreamed and more. Their picturesque Milwaukee wedding landed (coincidentally) on the first day of summer, and after heavy rains and thunderstorms pushed through, their big day became one for the books.

Ryan, a musician and history teacher, and Melissa, a photographer and graphic designer, could not have selected a more beautiful venue for the day, historic Turner Hall Ballroom, a local and national landmark, built in 1882. Decorated in an eclectic but simple taste, they wanted the celebration to truly represent them as a couple. Making use of antiques they have been collecting since they’ve met, the assortment of their own vintage pieces merely enriched the distressed, but elegant environment of Turner Hall. The couple wanted to focus their wedding around local and handmade goods that would make their day one of a kind, including the handmade lace wedding dress, paper goods designed by the bride, and antique windows and picture frames painted and labeled with signage and seating arrangements.

Surrounded by the people that mean the most to them, the couple exchanged vows in a succinct ceremony officiated by their good friend, heard music performed by the groom’s bandmates, and dined on a vegetarian meal catered by Beans and Barley, a local vegetarian and vegan-friendly restaurant and market. They also provided the rustic floral arrangements of wildflowers on each table, as well as the delicious vegan red velvet wedding cake. Erin Jean Photography beautifully captured this stunning event.

Milwaukee Wedding from The McCartneys Photography

Yesterday on Twitter we asked you (our favorite trend-spotters!) to spill what you’ve been seeing this summer. From florals to patterns to palettes and more. And sure enough, this Milwaukee beauty has a little bit of everything you mentioned: the blush color palette, the pretty peeks of lace, and that soft, ultra romantic look that seems to always be in style. But while this wedding hits just about every trend in the 2013 book, it’s those sweet, bespoke moments that make it stand out among the rest. Set aside some extra time to peruse this gorgeous gallery from The McCartneys — it’s sooo worth a nice, long look.

From The McCartneys… Zainab & Mike have one of the most unique & adorable love stories we have ever heard, and there wasn’t a face without a smile as it was recalled on their wedding day! They both share a passion for traveling & exploring, and their paths crossed when they decided to attend medical school in St. Maarten. Can you imagine a more beautiful place to earn your degree than the Caribbean?!? Zainab, already on the island, received an email from a friend saying that Mike would be arriving to attend med school, just like her! She also mentioned that she had arranged for Zainab to pick Mike up from the airport to show him around, suggesting that they might hit it off! Mike sent a photo so that Zainab would recognize him and, after sharing it with friends, it was agreed that he was very cute! Zainab & Mike immediately had a connection, and it continued to grow as they explored the island and endured med school together.

Having met in paradise, we are certain that their wedding day in Milwaukee was equally as beautiful!! Zainab & Mike’s ceremony included the perfect blend of Persian and Jewish traditions – our favorites being the honey they tasted off of each other’s fingers for sweetness & happiness, and of course the breaking of the glass followed by a loud and heartfelt “Mazel Tov”!

From the Bride… Mike and I wanted to make sure that our guests had an absolute blast, that is what was most important to us. Also, we grew up from very different backgrounds and cultures and have come together as one. It was important to us to incorporate our cultures into the wedding and create our own version of the perfect wedding. This is why we incorporated the Persian Wedding Sofreh, the Jewish chuppah and also the Jewish tradition of breaking the glass. Our vision was for our guests to feel like they were at an intimate and elegant dinner party. We also wanted it to be romantic and soft with a touch of glamour.

We chose our venue by perusing Milwaukee’s wedding photographer’s websites. We picked our location based on how the venues appeared in professional photos. We knew we wanted a space that could host the ceremony and reception. We also knew that we wanted a space with a lot of natural light and elements of nature such as greenery, and water. We looked at 2 venues prior to deciding and I knew this was the one based based on the versatility of the venue and also the amazing views!

Mike and I are both very busy residents and planned our wedding in Milwaukee while living in Tennessee. I couldn’t have done it without my matron of honor, Reggie, helping me all along. We were so lucky to work with Esther from Impressions Florists as she completely transformed all of my ideas and pictures into reality. They were even more gorgeous than I imagined!

My favorite moments were seeing Mike for the first time while we did our first look and portraits before the ceremony, the honey kiss tradition during our ceremony, the whole wedding ceremony and also dancing the night away. During our ceremony, soon after we finished reading our vows, I remember turning back to look at my bridesmaids and saw Lauren, my Matron of Honor, wiping the biggest tear off her cheek and it fell onto her dress. I also loved it that my step-mother and mother shared a tissue to wipe of happy tears during our ceremony, I thought it was very fitting for Mother’s Day.

If I were to share any advice with a future bride, I would say incorporate what is most important to you. Have fun and know that some things may not be as perfect as you planned, however, you, your groom and your guests will have so much fun no matter what and it’ll be perfect!

Milwaukee Wedding from Heather Cook Elliott Photography

I thought this wedding couldn’t get any better and then I saw the s’mores in a jar. I was already overly impressed with the beautiful blooms from Belle Fiori, the venue which is pretty much the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen, and the stunning couple, but those s’mores put me over the edge. I’m a little jealous (okay, a lot) of everyone who got to see this Heather Cook Elliott masterpiece in the flesh. At least there is the gallery!

From the photographer… Diana & Kyle call Chicago home but their lives have wound them all around the country so when it came time to plan their wedding they knew for most guests it would be a destination wedding so they opted to make it a destination wedding for them, too. They looked north to the unlikely city of Milwaukee and found three amazing venues to host their guests and family for the weekend. They wanted to mix and match elegance with urban, beautiful views of Lake Michigan with a little city grit, and most of all their guests from New Jersey, Michigan and all over the midwest.

Diana & Kyle are a fascinating combination of sexy and sporty, comfy and haute. They met playing flag football in Chicago and are generally up for all things sporting but they also love luxe details and places, which explains why they chose to start their day at the newly iconic Iron Horse Hotel where the guys played pool and the girls lounged in wildly printed robes. They moved from there to tie the knot with one of their best friends officiating at the Villa Terrace, an Italianate house museum perched on the bluff above Lake Michigan with views to all things blue. Guests were greeted with lemonade and explored the grounds before the ceremony and toasted the couple afterwards with champagne. At heart though, Diana & Kyle are city people so The Hamilton, a former city garage turned high end cocktail lounge, was the obvious choice for their reception. There they lit the cream city brick walls with candles and specialty uplighting in hues of lavender and fuschia and wowed guests with sweet details like two cakes (his in the shape of a Michigan football helmut – one of their shared alma maters), a decadent dessert assortment, a photobooth, a candy bar and place cards that were really personalized “s’mores in a jar.” They added some family history by decorating the wine shelves with family wedding photos and treated guests to a choreographed, stunning first dance. They designed all the paper themselves and made sure that guests not only ate and drank well but that they partied the night away on a packed dance floor. From sweet to sexy and all around gorgeous, these two had the destination wedding they always dreamed of in places they could never have imagined.

Milwaukee Wedding from Lexia Frank Photography

Okay, my new favorite thing in the world is when two talented designers get married. Why? Because the wedding looks like this. Lexia Frank Photography sent over images that were a swoon at first glance and as I’ve spent my time diving deeper and deeper into the gallery, I’ve fallen more and more in love. It’s the kind of wedding you’ll be in awe over, the kind you won’t forget, and the kind you’ll spend hours obsessing over – in the gallery.

From the photographer … Christopher and Amber’s wedding day was a perfect summer afternoon day in July – warm, sunny with little wind. It made the perfect backdrop for their guests to enjoy the outdoor event on a stunning Spanish-style villa terrace overlooking Lake Michigan. Because of their love of design and architecture (being both designers themselves) they fell in love with the Villa’s artistic tradition and stunning architectural beauty with grand rooms, open gardens and terrace.

Amber wore a Morilee dress by Madeline Gardner carrying a bouquet of Juliet Garden Roses paired with white Sweet Heart roses, white Freesia, and Dusty Miller. While her seven bridesmaids wore Blush colored dresses by Alfred Sung carrying bouquets of white Sweet Heart Roses, white Freesia, white Spider Mums, green Trachelium, Dusty Miller and Queen Anne’s Lace. Christopher wore a cream-colored pinstripe suit by Indochino, with the Groomsmen in light gray suits by Express.

Two of the items the couple decided to put special attention into were the design of the invitations and the rings. With their design background they had very specific ideas in mind, and put them to good use. The groom’s ring is a custom rose gold and brushed white gold double ring. A small piece is left blank, revealing the rose gold band, to signify the never complete aspect of a relationship. It mirrors the couple’s logo (they decided to forgo a traditional monogram for a more modern symbol they felt both embodied their relationship better) that was displayed on the front of the invitations as well as a chalkboard drawing at the reception. It features two imperfect shapes crossing over into one another, with a small piece left open in the middle- again, signifying the part of the relationship that will never be complete and always growing and changing. The groom, Christopher, designed the wedding invitations and branding for the event. Custom envelopes were fitted with wallpaper from the bride’s company’s (Farrow & Ball-Chelsea Papers) collection. The invitation unties to reveal a series of cards and RSVP. The color scheme for the invitations and the wedding was inspired by Farrow & Ball colors “Pink Ground and Pavilion Gray.”

The reception was at The Hinterland, a chic gastro pub and brewery. The centerpieces were composed of crisp green and white flowers to create a very soft and natural atmosphere in context to the restaurant’s collection of rustic wooden objects.

Custom designed cards met each guest upon entrance into the reception. On the front were their name and an illustration of the meal they would enjoy. On the back was their table seating indicated by a color name and swatch from the bride’s company’s line of paint.

The couple ended their night by dancing amongst friends and family to a Jazz Trio at the restaurant and enjoying a taco bar provided by the fine chefs. The couple then flew off to Curacao for their Honeymoon.

Milwaukee Engagement Session from Heather Cook Elliott Photography

Milwaukee is for lovers, at least this afternoon it is. Whether having a glass of wine, roaming the city streets or making sweet music together, this soon-to-be-wed duo is doing it in style and Heather Cook Elliott Photography was on hand to snap all those adorable moments. See the full spread right here.

From Heather Cook Elliott PhotographyShauna and Matt are ideal clients for me – not because they are easy to work with (which they are) and not because they are gorgeous (again, they are) and not even because they know how to bring it accessory-wise (which they do, obviously.) They are ideal clients because, artistically speaking, they scare the bejezus out of me and I do awesome work when I’m outside my comfort zone. They are both graduate students in the arts, living and working in New York and when on our first skype meeting Matt gave me a welcome, well-analyzed, totally lucid and spot on crit of my work, I knew I wanted very badly to work with these two. But in all honesty I knew that from Shauna’s first email in which she described her wedding to be – at the family farm on a late summer night marked by a full moon, surrounded by 60 or so close friends and family.

In town for Thanksgiving, these two arrived at my studio and fell in love with the brick and timber loftiness of the place waxing poetic on what it would be like to live in a space like that back in NYC. So we played at house for awhile, Matt and Shauna doing the things they would do in their imagined loft – playing music, reading, laughing and thinking. I followed their conversation and their shy smiles in studio and out in the city, falling in love with their love along the way. I recently shot their Blue Moon wedding and I can’t wait to share that, too!

Amy and Pete Wedding from Switzerfilm on Vimeo.

From Lexia Frank… It all started at Capital Fitness in Madison, Wisconsin. Pete —a personal trainer—and Amy, a new member, caught each other’s eye from across the gym and felt instant attraction. Flirtatious smiles and small talk eventually gave way to the exchanging of numbers. Since Amy isn’t the type of woman who sits by and waits for a call, the very next day, she called Pete to ask him out, herself.

The pair dated for five years and on a beautiful summer evening, took a walk down to the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Memorial Union. It was the perfect setting; they sat on a ledge overlooking the water and watched a gorgeous sunset. Seizing the moment, Pete hopped down to the rocks below and lowered himself onto one knee, asking Amy to marry him. After her initial shock (“Shut up! Do my parents know about this?”), Amy—of course, gave him the answer they both had in their hearts: “Yes!”

As the owner of her own cinematography business, One Fine Day Productions, Amy had been working in the wedding industry for ten years. When it came time to plan a big day of her own, she wanted something unique. She and Pete went with a French-vintage theme that was implemented seamlessly throughout the day; they didn’t want anything too elaborate; just simple little details from another era. The rehearsal dinner was held at Trimborn Farm, an intimate backdrop for a BBQ under the stars. The ceremony was held there as well, in a beautiful clearing between buildings. Guests walked past a vintage truck as they entered the site and then through a pair of old vintage doors made by Amy’s father.

After the ceremony, Amy & Pete welcomed their guests into the barn with kettle corn and lemonade, all in theme-appropriate packaging. The reception was held at Turner Hall Ballroom and was nothing short of spectacular. The cocktail hour, with the French-inspired passed hors d’voures from local eatery Brocach and the French accordion player made for a unique start to the reception. Guests enjoyed dinner amongst stunning displays of vintage details incorporated into the floral arrangements, table linens, glittered table numbers, candlelight and a magnificent head table in the middle of the room.

Amy and Pete’s guests savored chocolate favors from Wisconsin chocolatier Gail Ambrosias. An electric violinist serenading during dinner added a touch of sexy ambiance to the room. The couple surprised their guests later in the evening by pulling back the curtains on the stage to reveal a vintage lounge with mismatched furniture, a photo booth, and an over-the-top dessert bar that included two chefs creating crepes. (Oo, la la!) As the icing on the cake, so to speak, Amy had her grandmother’s wedding gown on display next to the cake for guests to view. The personal touch made the day all-the-more meaningful for the bride and her family.

Amy’s dress was an elegant compliment to her wedding’s theme. She wore a gorgeous gown by Lazaro from GiGi’s in Mequon. Serendipitously, it was the first dress she tried on and she instantly fell in love with it. To make the day unique and personal, Amy designed all of the invitations and paper goods utilized at the reception and ceremony; complete with French engraving scripts, vintage fonts and hand glittered details, the tone was set for the wedding from day one. For addressing invitations, place cards and other signage, the pair used the Blooming Quill, which added an elegant touch to the wedding’s overall ambiance.

Milwaukee Wedding at Turner Hall Ballroom from Emilia Jane Photography

Infusing a whole lot of personality into her big day was a number one priority for this gorgeous bride-to-be.  One that she and her handsome groom happily took on with some fab DIY details, an amazing flea market find and centerpieces constructed by none other than her step-father.  If that isn’t adding your special touch to every last moment, then I don’t know what is.  Oh, and the bride’s heartwarming tributes to her grandparents?  Beyond lovely.  See every moment captured by Emilia Jane Photography right here.

From the Bride… We wanted the day to reflect both of our personalities (which could have been challenging since we’re different in a lot of ways). We made the giant marquee letters and the signs together the week before the wedding and that was wonderful. We don’t get to work together on projects very often since we have such different careers, but this ended up being this great pre-wedding bonding experience. And I was so proud of him when I walked into the venue because it really looked exactly how I pictured it and he was able to just do that.

Other things that I loved were the rug we stood on (I bought it at the Rose Bowl flea market in Pasadena after scouring the internet for what I wanted. I went with a very good friend of mine who couldn’t make it to the wedding and she helped me barter. I love that it’s a memory of a great day with her and also that we’ll have the rug that we stood on while we promised to spend our lives together.), Jamie’s tie clip (with the rug’s coordinates), and the centerpieces made by my stepdad (he really nailed them). Also, I had read in a book that my grandparent’s had kept when I was a baby that what they wanted to see most in my future was me at my wedding. I kept thinking about that when I was planning. That they wouldn’t be there was unexpectedly emotional. So, I tried to create my grandparents’ presence as much as I could. We had pictures of them on or around their wedding day, I wore my grandmother’s necklace and a pair of earrings my grandpa had given to my mom, and carried a purse made from my grandmother’s wedding dress. I actually think their goals for me changed over time because they were also very excited about my education, but ultimately, I did feel like they were a part of the day.

Milwaukee Wedding at The Grain Exchange from Heather Cook Elliott

If you’re the type of person that falls head over heels in love with beautiful wedding gowns (read: each and every one of you), then you are about to have a serious heyday with this breathtaking Milwaukee affair.  Because this stunner of a wedding is not only boasting a plethora of drop-dead gorgeous details and TWO (yes, TWO) glorious settings, but one of the most beautiful Monique Lhuillier creations you will ever lay your eyes upon.  I promise you.  And if this blush-hued beauty isn’t enough to completely woo you, then the entire gallery captured by the ever-amazing Heather Cook Elliott most surely will.  It’s fabulous and you should most definitely join me there for more.

From Heather Cook Elliott PhotographyLacey & Scott live in Chicago but decided to trade their adopted big city skyline for a little old world glitz in Milwaukee. They wanted a light and airy day, full of romantic details and fun, with just a touch of tradition so they mixed grecian-inspired bridesmaid dresses with the kind of glamour only a blush colored wedding gown can speak of. Lacey started the day in that absolutely breathtaking blush colored Monique Luillier ensemble that is easily my favorite wedding dress of the year and ended the night in a traditional red Chinese dress in honor of Scott’s Chinese heritage. Along the way she was accompanied by bridesmaids dressed in white, a reversal of tradition that somehow comes off brilliantly when styled with romantic bangles, head pieces, statement earrings and soft pink, white and black florals.

I asked her how she came to the decision to style her day in such a bold yet softly romantic way. She replied that she was set on blush and white for her color story, but couldn’t find the perfect white wedding gown. On a lark she tried on the blush dress to sort of cleanse her bridal palette and she fell in love. And so did her mom and best friends who agreed to wear white for her.

On the wedding day Lacey & Scott skirted from the majesty of the grand Pfister Hotel along the city’s main avenue to an intimate ceremony at a stone and wood church on Milwaukee’s East Side. Scott and Lacey exited in style in a vintage Porsche from her dad’s collection. Petite and white, the car took them to Lake Park’s lighthouse where a few moments alone preceded a perfect reception at The Grain Exchange with its soaring painted tapestries and gilded architecture. We captured their day in all its blushing perfection and were captivated by a little tag on Lacey’s Chinese evening dress. It read: Double Happiness Scott & Lacey. So true.

Milwaukee Ballroom Wedding from Valo Photography

When a blogger becomes a bride, the Do-It-Yourself and Etsy gods collide… and this my friends, is the gorgeously epic result. Soy candles, handwritten signs and eclectic cloth napkins create a home-sweet-home vibe in this vastly grand turn-of-the-century ballroom. Who knew industrial rust and boarded up windows could look THIS chic? I tip my hat to Valo Photography for using such ethereal light to capture Audra’s vision of her perfect day. The stellar photos continue on into the gallery, and I’d suggest checking out the bride’s super cute blog too!

From the Bride… Andy and I fell in love before hundreds of people way before we fell in love for real. Our relationship began as co-stars in a theatre production, and we shared our first kiss and proposal on stage (In the play I proposed to him!) It wasn’t until a year and a half after that stage kiss that Andy had his chance to pop the question in a small California park where he used to play as a kid. Though we met in Vermont, and live in NYC, we chose to get married in my hometown of Milwaukee. We fell madly in love with our venue and it became my biggest source of wedding inspiration. From the moment Andy & I walked into the gorgeous antique Turner Hall Ballroom, I felt like I had been transported to the 1800s when it was first built. The stunning earth tones and rustic charm were the perfect background for the vision that I had imagined.

I knew I wanted a warm, neutral palate with hints of peach and champagne for a romantic, ethereal vibe. I wanted to have a huge part in all the decor so I took on many projects from my little NYC living room. I hand made the burlap and lace table runners, all the distressed chalk board table numbers/signs, the mix-matched cloth napkins, the ring pillow, the flower girl baskets, the “Yay!” flags, the dessert bar banner, the “Mr.& Mrs.” cake topper, and the trivia cards for cocktail hour. My Mom and I made the lovely soy candle favors (Bride’s own DIY tutorial here!) that also served as escort cards, the lace candle sleeves as well as some of the baked goods for the dessert bar. My talented older sister/matron of honor designed elements of the invite, the programs, the menus and all the hand-written signs/tags. My sister-in-law drew the gorgeous tree that we used for our thumbprint guest book.

We were blessed with some wonderful vendors. Simon from Valo Photography was such a joy to have around that whole day. He made us all at ease knowing that he was a pro at this, and his fun personality made Andy & I want him as a new best friend. My two favorite parts of the day were actually the only two things I didn’t plan down to a T: Andy’s vows (which brought most of the guests to tears and blew me away.) And- although Andy has more musical talent than many I know, he rarely shares it. Luckily for me, my wedding gift to him- (an engraved guitar pick,) inspired him to throw together a beautiful performance of “Wild Horses” that he sang during dinner. After months of planning and creating- those two moments are the ones I will never ever forget.

Milwaukee Wedding from Anna Page Photography + freshdesign

We have a beautiful wedding on our hands this morning. One that the Bride perfectly describes as spectacularly classic, and we couldn’t agree more. It is spectacular, and just all out beautiful. It’s easy elegance infused with vintage flair and perfectly picked florals from freshdesign. The result is a gallery that is just image after beautiful image of timeless perfection from Anna Page Photography, and you can devour them all right here.

From freshdesign Engaged at Big Bay Park, on one of Glendale, Wisconsin’s secluded lakeside beaches, Emily and Justin knew they wanted their wedding day to reflect their unique style. Drawing inspiration from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Emily and Justin sought to create an event that was warm, inviting, and timelessly romantic. “[We] wanted the day to seem very vintage, but not kitschy. Just spectacularly classic…with lots of candlelight.”

Completed in 1929, the University Club of Milwaukee is steeped in the rich tradition and details of its time. With such lavish architectural elements as a backdrop, Emily and Justin focused on texture, candlelight, simplicity, and purposeful diversity in design to tell their story. When asked what drew them to the venue, Emily noted, “I loved that it was unlike any other venue; a nontraditional choice for an otherwise traditional wedding. It is such an elegant space and completely spoke for itself; the chandeliers, the art, the dark wood, classic. [We] took one look at the room and knew instantly that was where we were supposed to get married.”

From the seersucker suits and the Swiss dot ties to the period inspired gown, their event had an heirloom quality without feeling dated. Pairing old with new, Emily and Justin chose a varied and diverse floral palette to add an ethereal botanical element. Tufts of moss, dense greenery, and pearls of amaranthus all played a part in creating that mystical garden feel. To keep things fresh, each bridesmaid carried a different bouquet in a complimentary hue while some unexpected varietals, namely thistle, took center stage in the boutonnieres.

During cocktail hour, guests were greeted by a moss encrusted monogram on the place card table, while in the dining area, understated botanical clusters and ample candlelight graced the tables. The cake was deliciously simple, 4 tiers of textured butter cream topped with a traditional bride and groom statuette.

At the stroke of midnight, not a single detail had been left to chance. Perfectly planned to compliment the easy-going elegance and eclectic aesthetic of a care-free couple, Emily and Justin created an unforgettable affair. An affair that captivated guests and carried them to a time not so long gone in a place of enchanted beauty. When asked to recall the most memorable elements of their special day, Emily noted, “The small, special, quiet moments with my family and my new husband. The kind of moments that if I wasn’t paying attention, would be forgotten, but live on in my heart and soul as the most important parts of the day.”

Milwaukee Wedding at Cuvee from Kelly Sweet Photography

We are prettying up your lunch hour with the nuptials of two lovebirds as seen through the lovely lens of Kelly Sweet Photography, and trust me when I say, we take prettying up seriously. One peek at all the sweetness below will feel like we waved a wand of lovely over your afternoon – the rustic glamour, the traditional touches, the loft setting – and ta da! All of the sudden you’re afternoon is as pretty as this party. See it all here!

From the Bride… Kacey and I met in college and then proceeded to have a long-distance relationship that spanned half the continent for the next two and a half years. After four years of dating, Kacey proposed and the wedding planning began! The ceremony location was easy for us. We were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa, a beautiful German church built in the late 1800s that Kacey and I both attended during college. The reception location took a bit more effort to find, but we fell in love with Cuvee in Milwaukee’s Third Ward. The exposed cream city brick walls, old wooden floors, loft space and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the main street had the rustic, glamourous look we were going for. It fit seamlessly into our color palette of taupe, blush and gray. The bar and dining room were in two separate rooms, which allowed us to play with the decorations. We didn’t have a wedding coordinator, so we designed all the décor and paper goods ourselves. Many of the projects were DIY, and I must thank my mother, aunts and mother-in-law for their help – it certainly could not have been done without them!

For the cocktail area, we went with simple, rustic flower arrangements in vintage, brown bottles and let the beauty of the venue do the rest. In the dining room, we had loose arrangements of peonies, hydrangeas and roses in vintage blue mason jars that I collected over the previous year from antique shops and flea markets. These sat on burlap squares with mercury glass candles surrounding them for a bit of shine. But the highlight of the dining area was probably the dessert table – something I had wanted from the beginning!

Both Kacey and I are history buffs, and we were so honored to have meaningful family heirlooms be such a large part of our wedding. My veil was my mother’s, and my purse was a spectacular beaded bag from the 1930s given to me by my great aunt. Kacey’s wedding band was passed down from his grandfather, and the beaded butterfly appliqué on my bouquet was actually a piece from my great-grandmother’s wedding dress from 1918. So much help from our family and friends went into making this day possible. My mom and aunts helped with so many of the centerpieces and decorations, and even my dad and brothers pitched in to help tie antique keys onto the escort cards. It truly was a group effort from both of our families that helped make our day perfect. Even the rain couldn’t dampen our spirits — a frantic dash from the park to the venue made for great photos and stories!

Milwaukee Wedding from Emma Freeman Photography

A sweet love-story (dating back to high school!) brought this bride and groom together for their classically-chic nuptials. Emma Freeman Photography snapped up all of the thoughtful, personal details of this fall fête held at the beautiful The University Club of Milwaukee. Lovelies, there’s even more inspiration in the full gallery!

From the Bride… My favorite teacher in high school was Mrs. Schneider. I had her for Chemistry and AP Biology. She was inspiring, motivating, cared about her students, loved her job and loved her family. She talked about her kids in class. She had a son, Jack, who was a couple years older than me, and a daughter, Betsy, who was a year younger. I ended-up getting a mall job during high school and working with Betsy. I met Jack, just once, when I was hanging-out with Betsy at the Schneider house. I thought he was cute … or so my journal entry from that day told me when I looked it up five years later…

Five years after I graduated from high school, my best guy friend, Ryan, asked me to go to Betsy’s wedding as his date, just as a friend — he wanted someone to dance with. It was at Betsy’s wedding that I met Jack for the second time. I guess I couldn’t resist an adorable man in a tuxedo. We totally hit it off, and I spent the night dancing with Jack, not Ryan! Five years after that, after a long-distance relationship between Chicago and Vermont, and my move to be with Jack in Vermont, Jack proposed in our hometown in Wisconsin. He proposed in my parents living room in front of my screaming parents. It was perfect! We knew we wanted to get married in Milwaukee, where our relationship first began. Jack was in medical school in Milwaukee, and I would travel up on weekends from Chicago. We had a list of favorite places, and we wanted to incorporate some of our favorite things about Milwaukee into our wedding.

We wanted a September wedding — warm days and cool nights. The purples and greens of fall were our colors. We wanted a venue with old Milwaukee charm and chose the University Club of Milwaukee for its beautiful brick exterior and view of Lake Michigan. The beautiful St. Hedwig’s Church is blocks from Jack’s medical school apartment and has the quintessential long aisle to walk down! The dress had to fit the classic feel of old Milwaukee and the elegance of the reception venue. I chose a strapless, lace, fit and flare gown with a slight sweetheart neckline. The men looked dapper in tuxedos and black bow-ties and to give their look some color, all wore purple argyle socks. Pictures were taken all around Milwaukee. The place where we wanted to capture moments the most was at our absolute favorite coffee shop, Alterra on the Lake. It was a place we frequented all the time and we have their beans delivered to us in Vermont! It made for a sentimental and beautiful spot for a few photos. No matter the location of the pictures, our photographer, Emma Freeman, managed to capture the most amazing shots throughout the day. The day wouldn’t have been the same without her expert eye and attention to detail!

Guests walked into cocktail hour to the music of a local Celtic group fiddling and fluting and were able to look at old wedding pictures of our family members. The flowers were amazing — some tables had high centerpieces with hanging candles, and others had low centerpieces in beautiful mercury glass vases. It was the perfect setting to enjoy great food, listen to touching toasts and dance the night away. Our wedding day was the best day of our lives, and looking back, I wouldn’t have changed a thing!
