Enjoy!

From Sara & Rocky PhotographyJenna and Rockett were married at the Dallas Arboretum in April in their beautiful gardens! They are both creatives themselves, so they designed their own wedding to be exactly what they envisioned. The colors, floral, and setting were romantic and eclectic. They made their own invitations, used their “Rockett” marquee letters out of their own office as their cake backdrop, and a friend did all of the floral. The weather was absolutely perfect for an outdoor ceremony and reception, it was gorgeous!

Florida Seaglass Styled Inspiration Shoot

This shoot has my name written all over it. The colors, the stunning seaside setting, the sublte but sophisticated details – it’s almost as though the talents behind this gorgeous inspiration knew the perfect recipe to make my heart sing. Dreamt up and captured by Debra Eby Photography, I think it goes without saying I adore every image sitting in this gallery.

From Debra Eby PhotographyInspiration for this shoot is drawn from the alluring beauty of the coast. Our team of artists designed with an intentional seaglass palette. Gilded accents compliment the hues of blue.

The setting is the sea. A background of gentle waves caressing the shoreline set against a watercolor sky. The ocean has a way of beckoning romance. Using Martha Stewart’s line of glass paint, tiny vases transform into seaglass. Now hosting dripping candlesticks on the tablescape.

There were several art projects that provided small details. For the table number, I transformed a wooden number into a mosaic by gluing pieces of seaglass onto it. The number was then glued on a glass picture frame.

Oyster shells were collected by the shoreline and then hand-painted gold. Meghan, our stylist, fashioned our tablescape using these pieces.

For the closing scene, I had this vision of romantic exploration. As the sun begins dipping over the horizon, our couple steps into the water. Here, they lift white lanterns lighting the dimming seascape.

Vermont Barn Wedding at Lareau Farm Inn

Vermont and barn weddings just seem to make perfect sense. It’s as if they were created just to compliment each other, just like these two lovebirds saying I do below. Their farm fête is packed with personality and pretty, and thanks to Dreamlove Photography you can soak up all the sweetness here.

From Dreamlove PhotographyWhere is the perfect place for two star-crossed mountain bike lovers to tie the knot? At the Lareau Farm Inn of course, in the heart of the Mad River Valley and the epicenter of great mountain biking in Vermont!

These two really spiffed up for their big day, but we managed to get a photo of them on their bicycles so they could remember their other love when they look back at their wedding photos.

Chelsea and her bridesmaids prepared for the day at the Pitcher Inn, a local spot steeped in vintage ski accessories. These two went for a first look at their rustic red barn wedding venue, the Lareau Farm Inn in Waitsfield, and then said their, I do’s” in a lovely field ceremony beneath a rustic tree branch arbor.

Their ceremony was filled wild wildflower bouquets in studded glass vases, and dinner was served by the fantastic local Flat Bread Pizza, conveniently located right next door to their venue. Guests, who were invited to this celebration by gorgeous letter-pressed invitations, were given local maple syrup as favors, and a bridesmaid of Chelsea’s surprised everyone by scooping up ice cream she had found in town earlier that day!

From the Bride…Pick awesome vendors who you feel comfortable with!  There is so much out there and on the web that it can seem overwhelming when initially looking for people to help support your big day.  Have conversations with a few folks, and see what conversations click. Many people make beautiful wedding things, but only some will be able to match your vision and feel like friends as they do so.  We felt like we could converse and laugh with all of the people who were a part of our wedding during the planning stages, and that sense of relaxation really transferred to the wedding day itself.  Because we picked vendors who were masters of their craft but who also had knowledge of how weddings in general run smoothly, everything turned out perfectly!  My husband, who bore the brunt of my freak outs about wedding details in the few weeks leading up to the wedding, will probably kill me for saying this, but looking at the venue on the day of, I felt like I barely did any of the nitty gritty planning (even though I didn’t have a wedding planner)! That was because our vendors were so awesome!! They just made things happen, and happen beautifully!

From the beautiful Bride…Adam and I met in college in 2008. We lived across the street from each other and were friends for about 6 months before we decided that we wanted to be more. The truly great thing about our relationship and the way it formed is that during that year that we lived across the street from each other our groups of friends all became close which always makes things more fun. It also gives us a really strong support system of friends around us. We dated from that year forward until our wedding March 8 of this year. Adam is a Special Forces Medic so he was gone a lot for our dating years but we both feel like it made us a stronger couple in the end.

After 6 years of dating- four of which were long distance- we were VERY ready to tie the knot! My main vision and focus for our wedding was to include as many small and personal details as possible. Don’t get me wrong, I think that florals and good food are super important, but I think it’s the little unexpected things that people really take away and remember about a wedding. Besides that, I really wanted it to reflect who we are individually and as a couple. I am a very hands on person and am drawn to anything that lets me express myself creatively so naturally I decided to style/decorate my own wedding. Everyone said that I was insane but we pulled it off! Luckily, we had a really long engagement- a year and three months. During this time, I collected
all of the decor for the wedding at thrift stores, antique malls and estate sales. I did every centerpiece and reception area with items I had thrifted. I wanted the ceremony to be really intimate so we chose candles over flowers and I handmade the wax catchers. Knowing that myself and my family and close friends had all put our hard work into the day made it that much sweeter. It truly is one of those days that you wish you could relive over and over.

Some people think Adam and I are insane because we opened a clothing store two weeks after we returned from our honeymoon. For the month leading up to the wedding we were wrapping up planning and renovating a store at the same time. Our new store truly has been a labor of love just as our wedding was. It has been so fun to create this store concept together and execute it. I think that taught us quite a few lessons about how to truly work together and rely on each other. If I could give one piece of advice to future married couples it would be to rely on each other and really be interested and invested in what your partner is doing. It’s not going to work if it’s any other way. I also want to add another piece of advice my sister, Lucy, gave me about marriage based on her experience – it’s important to rely on each other completely, but it’s equally important to realize that there are certain things that you can only get from God. Realizing this takes a lot of pressure and resentment out of your marriage.

Boho Chic Maui Wedding

A single look at this couple and you know that they are one of the most beautiful pair we’ve ever had on SMP. But look a little closer. Could it be that they are also the most in love? The joy emanating out of these images completely defines what a wedding can and should be. With photographs from Tamiz Photography and stunning florals by Opihi Love, you have no choice but to pore over the entire wedding right here and of course in the beautiful film by Sunlit Films.

From The Bride…When most people think of Maui, they think of beautiful beaches with white sand and sparkling blue waters of the Pacific, but what a lot of people don’t realize is that Maui has one of the most spectacular countryside’s I’ve ever seen.

We chose my husband’s rustic family farm in Kula, Maui to have our wedding ceremony. The lush rolling hills surrounded by spectacular views of Maui coastline below made for the perfect backdrop to say I do.

We had the great privilege and luck to work with Melissa Padilla of Opihi Love Boutique Rentals and Event design for our wedding. Our vision was one of rustic elegance with vintage touches. Cigar boxes, vintage teacups, dahlias, peonies, proteas, David Austin’s, runuculus, wax flowers, mason jars, candlelight and fire pits decorated the barn and cocktail area.

Our ceremony was an intimate affair with just our closest family members in attendance. Having lost both my parents (my mom very recently to cancer), I was apprehensive about having a big wedding knowing how emotional my sisters and I would be without our mom and dad there. It was Graham’s idea to have a small family only ceremony and dinner and follow it up with a big reception party at a later date and it was the best decision we ever made.

How wonderful it was to be able to get ready in the Monroe family farmhouse. Getting ready with my sisters was a bittersweet moment as my mother’s presence was everywhere, from the buttoning up of my lace Pronovias gown to the crowing of the haiku floral lei, I could hear her laughter and feel her love around all of us.

I had my three nieces as my flower girls, my two younger nephews as my ring bearers, and my two oldest nephews (both of which are named for their grandfathers whom they never got to meet) walk me down the aisle. I know my dad would have approved of having his grandsons step in to walk his last little girl down the aisle. It was magical to have all littlest family members involved and they kept us all smiling and laughing the entire day.

Graham picked our ceremony location to be in one of the upper pastures with beautiful views. Wooden benches, chaise lounges, and vintage chairs made up the seating for our small party and two garden chairs were placed in front for my parents so that Graham and I could lay flower leis over them in remembrance.

Taking photos while walking through the beautiful orchards with the talented husband and wife team that make up Tamiz photography, we were able to have a few quiet moments to ourselves while the afternoon sun kissed the coming dusk.

The Monroe’s working rustic barn was converted into a beautiful dinner theater with hanging floral arrangements on rustic wooden planks cascading down to vintage farm tables. Linen table runners decorated with flowers and candles made for the perfect table setting. Miss B Calligraphy created the rustic wooden signs, handmade seating cards and a unique picture menu to highlight the culinary delights of Maui Executive Catering. Pan Asian cuisine with fresh farm to table deliciousness was the perfect choice for our wedding dinner. Fresh ahi poke (a local favorite), sous vide wagyu beef, and homemade green tea ice green (the groom’s favorite) were just some of the dishes that were served to our guests.

A grownups only Scotch bar was found near the firepit and a s’more and hot chocolate bar was laid out for the kids to enjoy as the night wore on.

The evening ended by sending off wish lanterns to carry our beautiful memories, prayers and love to those who could not be there with us that day.

It was such a special day, filled with some of our most special people and we were so happy to share it with all of them.

Elegant Spring Perth Wedding

My love of pink peonies knows no bounds and when I found this bride felt the same, I sort of felt like kindred spirits. She, along with her charming groom, crafted a day filled with personality, elegance and ease…not to mention killer floral moments by Rebecca Grace. The amazing Mustard Seed Photography captured the pretty and this little taste is only the beginning.

From The Bride… We both had strong ideas about what we wanted for our wedding and we were lucky that our strong ideas complimented each other. Everything we loved about each other and our relationship was reflected in the planning and the end, our wedding day. Jason works in IT, he is organised, focussed and is great at breaking down tasks. I work in health, and am mostly organised and focussed. My fiancé worked hard to keep me on track during this time. He turned our wedding into a work project, creating a card wall, each card with a task and associated contact details.

To combine our love for food and the desire for dinner with a view led us to the idea of a Chinese banquet style reception dinner, but with a relaxed, outdoor feel. Heyder & Shears allowed us to design our own 8 course menu and our event manager Zac was with us every step of the way from suggesting wines to sourcing everything we needed to make our guests feel comfortable. Our marquee had clear walls so our guests could take in the river views from the banks of Matilda Bay Reserve. Once it was dark, the city lit up, creating a lovely romantic feel.

I am so lucky to have had such an involved groom. When Jason saw I really wanted letterpress invitations, he designed exactly what I wanted, including a image of the stuffed toy dog he gave me in the early stages of our relationship with a bouquet of peonies (my favourite flower). The picture of the cute dog would feature on our save the date cards, seating chart and the stickers on our favours. Jason designed our guest book, a coffee table book of our engagement photos. We named tables after restaurants or places where we had shared delicious food, and we framed our menus to give them pride of place at the centre of the tables. We spent weekends filling jars with local raw honey, tying place cards which double as thank you cards on the back.

SMP was my go to blog on all things wedding related. I spent countless hours admiring beautifully weddings while gathering ideas to make our day unique.

We could not have asked for better vendors and our amazing family and friends who travelled from across Australia and Asia to help us celebrate our special day. I would not change a thing, even the rain! Our day was perfect, because of all the wonderful people in our lives who love us so very much.

Simply Romantic Summer Backyard Wedding

A backyard wedding is one of those things every little girl dreams of. The white tent, the quiet romance, and the intimate gathering of those you love most. It’s exactly what happened when these lovies settled on a celebration at the Groom’s family home, and Lauren Fair captured the stunning gallery you don’t want to miss.

From Lauren Fair PhotographySiv + Andrew’s backyard wedding was full of simple touches that were elegant, breathtaking and utterly romantic. Their silk + teak tent was so beautiful draped with greens + florals by the talented Oleander Botanicals, and their ceremony lined with wildflowers overlooked rolling hills of Pennsylvania.

The property is Andrew’s father’s home, so it had a lot of meaning to the family and was the perfect place to celebrate. With an intimate gathering of around 100 family + friends, guests mingled on the lawn as they were served delicious cocktails + hors d’ouveres. The style of their wedding was neutral and elegant, with brass candelabras, delicate florals and most of all, lush greenery trailing on the head table, draped on the outside of the test, and surrounding the pretty white menus. A close family friend got his band back together to play at the reception, which was a huge hit!

Flora Farm 50th Birthday Party

The minute a party is referred to as a hootenanny, you can consider my on board. Not only doe it imply that a whole lot of fun is too be had, but it also means that said fun will be light and frivolous and likely outdoors.Perfect example: this farm inspired 5oth. The secret to its success? Dinner, live music, and wheelbarrows filled with bevvys! With photos from Sara Richardson, there’s more farm fun in the gallery.

From Maria Boehme, the event coordinator… So happy I got to do the first Mango Grove party!!!!! The Mango Grove is the new amazing event area at Flora Farms. It is this amazing space just waiting to be converted into your dream event. Who better to initiate the area than Patrick, the owner of Flora. His wife and co-owner Gloria gave me the inspiration, Hootenanny. She told me to google it, this is what I got.

Colorful Spring Palo Alto Wedding

I’d be willing to bet my bottom dollar that this wedding goes down as a SMP favorite. For starters, it’s the work of Marcy Blum and Nancy Liu Chin (aka, some of the best in the biz) with Stephanie Pool behind the lens. From the bright pink petals down the aisle to the statement bridesmaids’ dresses, it’s a risk-taking spin on traditional elegance that paid off BIG time. Get started in the gallery and don’t miss the film from AwesomeShot Studios.

[iframe //www.youtube.com/embed/qJoneg9xURg 600 338]

From Marcy Blum AssociatesPlanning this wedding for one of my dearest friends’ children (we have been friends for over 45 years) of course held a very special meaning for me. I’ve known the bride and her siblings before they were born, and not having kids of my own, they are my surrogates.

Dana was raised in Palo Alto and now lives with her husband (Rob is from New York) in New York City where her mother, father, and I were raised. The bride and I have very similar taste and style and we lean towards the ‘fabulous’ much to her mother’s chagrin.

One of the challenges for me was to imbue the very elegant but rather masculine and definitely ‘clubby’ Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club with some NYC glitz and glam without eradicating the wonderful California aura that Dana and her family are very attached to. The Club is also a venue that many of the guests are quite familiar with and I wanted to turn it into something that felt very different and very festive to them as well. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the banquet manager Helen Engelherdt (from ny of course :) was 100% with me on this project and made it far easier than it would have been otherwise. We served cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before the ceremony so that we didnâ??t impinge on any members golfing time when we finally set up.

The ceremony on the golf course (an outdoor ceremony was the one non-negotiable from the bride) began with Beach Boy songs performed by an acapella group and continued with a classical ensemble. After the ceremony performed by a friend of the couple, guests entered the ballroom from a different direction than usual. Guests were literally stopped in their tracks by the transformation of the club’s dining room. Using long tables, custom gossamer and gold linens, clever lighting and hanging crystals and blooms from the existing chandeliers, our team had rendered the club ballroom even to those who are there often, unrecognizable.

A fabulous band after dinner was followed by a DJ in the sexy club we had built in the bar.

The entire weekend, starting with a Mexican tasting dinner in Palo Alto hosted by the grooms’ parents and ending with an around the pool farewell brunch at the bride’s parent’s home, was really the perfect melding of wonderful ideas and guests from east and west coasts, exactly as I had wished for.

Strawberry Eton Mess

If you’ve yet to try strawberry eton mess, you need to rectify this immediately! It’s meringue and whipped cream and strawberry goodness all mashed up into one delicious treat. Take a cue from Have A Yummy Day and serve it up in individual jars for a heavy dose of lovely. We love that they’re not too precious, borderline impossible to mess up, and chock full of texture and flavor in the very best of ways.

From Have A Yummy Day… Eton Mess is traditionally served at an annual cricket game at Eton College in the UK. Legend has it that it was invented when a dog accidentally crashed a meringue cake, and what was left was served as Eton Mess. We make ours in vintage glass jars, it looks fabulous when we put these on the table.

Serves 10Ingredients
  • FOR THE MERINGUE
  • 2 egg whites
  • ½ cup caster sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1 ½ tablespoon raspberry purée
  • Red food dye
  • FOR THE ICE CREAM
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • 1 ⅔ cup milk
  • 1 ⅓ cup heavy cream
  • 6 egg yolks
  • ¾ cups caster sugar
  • TO ASSEMBLE
  • 1 ⅓ cup heavy cream, whipped
  • 2 litres strawberries
Instructions
  1. FOR THE MERINGUE
  2. Set the oven to 210˚F. Whisk egg whites, sugar and vinegar in a stainless steel bowl. Put the bowl over a warm water bath and keep whisking until the paste is around 130˚F. Take the bowl off the heat and keep whisking until the meringue cools down. Add raspberry purée and just a little dye. Fill a piping bag with a star shaped nozzle with the meringue and pipe pieces of meringue onto a baking tray covered with a baking paper. Bake in the middle of the oven for about 1 hour. When the pieces of meringue are loose from the baking paper and their bottoms are dry, they are done. Let the meringue cool. Store in an airtight jar in room temperature.

Pour the hot cream mixture over the yolks and pour everything back into the saucepan and stir. Simmer the mixture to 185˚F or until it starts to thicken from heavy whisking. Take off the heat, do not let it boil. Pour the mass into a bowl and let it cool. Sift and use in an ice cream machine. Put the ice cream in the freezer for 1-2 hours.
  5. TO ASSEMBLE
  6. Put strawberries, meringue, ice cream and whipped cream in layers in big jars.

Elegant San Francisco Clift Hotel Wedding

The perfect mix of elegant and intimate, this San Francisco wedding at the Clift Hotel is sophisticated yet sweet. With beautiful all white florals from Erica Rose Design, perfectly edited details by Riley Loves Lulu and stunning photography from Vivian Chen Photography – this gallery simply shouldn’t be missed

From the Bride…The vision for the wedding was something chic and sophisticated, yet intimate. Chris and I met and live in San Francisco, so we wanted the wedding to in the city, in a venue that was indoor, but special. When we saw the Spanish Suite of the Clift Hotel, it almost felt as if it were custom made for our wedding. Between the warm redwood, the sparkling chandeliers and the Philippe Starck chair covers, it was absolutely gorgeous. The fact that it opened onto a tented patio that overlooked the lights of downtown San Francisco made it truly perfect.

We thought the best way to complement this beautiful space was with simple all-white flowers. The baby’s breath garland on the mantle was a highlight–dramatic, yet soft and lacy. We also added personal touches throughout the wedding, such as my late grandmother’s handkerchiefs for “happy tears”, signature cocktails, and personalized menus. One of my best friends is an artist and graphic designer, so we were lucky enough to have her do all the signage and invitations. The room felt so elegant, and yet so warm, which is exactly what we wanted for our 65 guests.

My favorite moment of the night was just looking at Chris’ face while we were getting married–it was actually glowing. It really hit me then how lucky I was to be marrying this man! We worked thoughtfully on customizing the ceremony with our officiant, and it was so special and just felt so right for us. It was truly a magical night.

Chic Modern Wedding in Madison

For those of you that are tying the knot in the gorgeous city of Madison, consider yourself inspired. Because this celebration is everything we love about weddings…it’s chic, it’s intimate, it’s chocked full of tradition, glamour and all out loveliness. With photographs by The McCartney’s and florals by daffodil*parker, this is one wedding that will be bookedmarked for years to come. Click here for more!

From The McCartneys PhotographyAll along, Amanda & Nick’s four wedding words were “classic, elegant, soft, and romantic” and when their wedding day came around, every element and moment was anchored in this “theme”! As a couple, Amanda & Nick are sentimental, adventurous, and SO in love, which made for a beautiful celebration filled with timeless, elegant touches (and peonies galore!!!). Personal details like traditional Trentadue family Italian cookies, his/her signature cocktails, and beautiful hand-written vows (that left very few eyes dry during their ceremony) are what made their wedding day so special!

In May 2013, Amanda summarized her wedding as follows and she believes their day held very true to these words!: “My four wedding words are classic, elegant, timeless, and romantic. Our colors are “bright neutrals” – white, champagne, and gold (with pops of coral). Our rehearsal dinner will be at the University Club, and both the ceremony and reception at the Madison Club. There will be approximately 150 guests. My favorite flowers are peonies. The girls will wear long champagne chiffon dresses. The guys will wear plain black suits. Overall, I envision a simple, heartfelt ceremony (we’re writing our own vows), an intimate (or as intimate as 150 can be!) reception with lots of white, and one heck of a party. Our taste is simple yet elegant. The venue is almost masculine (an older, establish space with lots of history) so I want to add soft full flowers and touches of gold and coral. Nick and I also love traveling (I collected 5 passport stamps last year and Nick probably collected 10) so I also want to include this passion of ours somehow.”

From the bride…We wanted to stay true to ourselves and make sure the day, and everything in it, meant something to us. It was important to us to keep the event as small and intimate as possible (for us 150 was small!) and to also exchange hand-written vows.

After toying with the idea of a destination wedding for about a week, it was an easy decision to decide that Madison was the perfect location for our wedding. The city we are both from, the place we met while students at the UW, the location of our first home – Madison will always be home and have a special place in our hearts.

I’m not even quite sure how the Madison Club came to mind, but after exchanging a few emails with the staff and seeing some photos, we were almost positive it was exactly what we were looking for and it only took a short first look at the venue to know for sure. The location was ideal, the food was well-known to be really great, and it had the character and feel we wanted.
Rather than DIYing everything, we worked with a fabulous team of vendors who brought our vision to life better than we could have imagined!

I’d love to say the whole day was our favorite moment because it truly was more than anything we could have dreamed, but three moments stand out…

1) Our first look. Taking photos before the ceremony meant that Nick and I would see each other before but we were totally fine with that idea. And actually, having that time just the two of us before the craziness of the day really started was very special – I’ll never forget those first few moments we got to spend together.

2) The vows. It was important to both of us to write our own vows and that decision might be the best one we made for the entire wedding. Hearing Nick’s vows to me was one of the happiest and most blessed moments of my life thus far, and having the chance to read mine to Nick in front of our nearest and dearest meant so much.

3) The moment right after the recessional. After we were pronounced husband and wife we excited the ceremony room for a few minutes before greeting guests at their seats. As soon as we got to that other room, we hugged and started immediately crying because we were both so incredibly overwhelmed with happiness. We were literally so happy we burst (into tears) :)

As for advice to other brides, make sure you stay true to yourselves! I think a wedding should reflect who you are as a couple and be filled with things you love and elements that are important to you.

And, your bridal party matters! They are your support system during planning but also on the most important day of your lives. Surrounding yourself with people who know you and that you can count on is invaluable.

Sweet Peach Wedding Inspiration

Inspired by all things peach, this group of talents set out to craft a photo shoot that marries organic details and a touch of whimsey. It’s ripe with beautiful wild blooms by Dandie Andie Floral Designs, fun whimsical touches crafted by Lisa Ho Studio and a dessert bar from Sweet Table that dreams are made of. Sneak a peek at the rest of this beautiful shoot through the lens of Magnolia Studios.

From Lisa Ho StudioOur vibrant peach inspired wedding is the perfect marriage of organic elegance with whimsical details. Multicolor tones of peaches added understated color which allowed for the bride and her layering of the soft, delicate accessories to stand out against the natural backdrop.

The bride wore three separate gowns, all vintage inspired with shoulder coverage, and a beautiful cape added a unique touch to her ensemble which is sure to provide brides with inspiration for their own weddings! We also paired a long back necklace with the open back wedding gown.

The sweets table was designed to resemble a peach stand at a farmers market which included colourful chocolate covered oreo cookies, and glass candy lollipops with real flowers inside. The hand painted stationary added a personal, homemade touch which tied all of the natural and peach elements together.

As a person that doesn’t like to be further than walking distance to the ocean at all times, this stunning seaside shoot beautifully styled by Pearl & Godiva and captured by Alexander James is basically my idea of perfection. From Pearl & GodivaThis is one of my personal favourites and I am so excited to be able to share it with you. We do hope you love it as much as us. As this was such a divine project to work on.

Well I stood before the ocean in the middle of the night
And because I loved her so I asked her then if she would be my wife.
And then I closed my eyes and waited, and listened for an answer
Until she kissed my feet and whispered,

From the Bride...When I was just 16 years old my Mom and Dad came to be the proud new owners of a wild, undeveloped piece of property near Sulphur Springs, Texas. We could only access a small fraction of the property by vehicle and had to explore the rest by foot. The land was overgrown by vines with thorns, trees with thorns, bushes with thorns, weeds with thorns, and just about every creature of wildlife you could imagine would live in East Texas – all breeds of birds, deer, skunks, armadillos, snakes, insects with varieties of bites and stings; it was a rugged piece of land, but it was our piece of the country. We spent our weeks in Rockwall working and attending school, but we spent our weekends in Sulphur Springs. My mom and dad, my younger brother and myself devoted our blood, sweat and tears to that land until it started to look habitable. Roads were laid, creeks were bridged, lakes were dammed, and that little piece of untamed wildlife became our haven where we spent quality time around the campfire, on horseback, and simply being together as a family. It wasn’t long before Mom and I were discussing the idea of hosting my fictitious wedding at their new home in Sulphur Springs – the Running Six Ranch.

Six years later while in college at the University of North Texas, I met Max Buck. He and I were both music majors – he played double bass and I played clarinet. We were in the same band for many semesters before we spoke to one another, but I had always noticed the red headed fireman playing bass from across the room. We were performing a concert one fall night in 2009. As the members of our ensemble were headed out to the stage, I dropped every last page of my music on the floor. It was a huge mess and I was panicking, but Max the fireman came to my rescue. He stopped to help me gather my things, we hurried through a brief introduction, and then we were rushed on to the stage to begin our concert. It was several weeks after that before we spoke again. When Max stopped me during rehearsal one day and asked for my phone number, I was giddy with excitement. I gave him my number and we agreed to meet for dinner the next night. After our first date it was once again several weeks before I spoke with Max. Something about this prolonged period of absence drew me to him, and I was still interested when he finally called me back. After that, we saw each other as often as we could. We had only been together a short six months when he left to pursue his Masters at the University of Maryland in the spring of 2010 after we both graduated with our bachelor degrees from UNT. Soon after Max left the state to further his education, I accepted a job in Lubbock, Texas teaching his school band. We were worlds apart it seemed, but were bound and determined to make our relationship last. After two and half years of long distance phone calls and flights, I accepted a job in the Dallas area and moved back home. After only having been there a few months, Max surprised me with an impromptu visit, a nice dinner in the city and a walk by the lake. At the water’s edge he took a knee and asked for my hand in marriage on August 25th, 2012 – this day would have been my grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary. Max moved back to Texas in December of that same year, and we started planning the dream wedding at my parentsâ?? home in Sulphur Springs.

The property was now home to horses, donkeys, cats, dogs, a beautiful horse barn and my parents’ new house. It had become a beautiful haven in East Texas. Though we had a long engagement it seemed as if the months flew by, and May 3, 2014 was here before we knew it.

The wedding day couldn’t have been more perfect! After a year and a half of planning, the Running Six Ranch was transformed into a fairytale for an evening of celebration, love, laughter, music, good times, friends and family. Our friends and relatives from around the country gathered in our small piece of paradise to celebrate the beginning our marriage. It truly was, and still is, a dream come true.
