Elegant Santa Barbara Restaurant Rehearsal Dinner

The night before the Big Day is something to be celebrated. And when you just so happen to have Renny and Reed and Jenna Lam Events there to help pull it off, an intimate dinner turns into something truly special. Wine Cask Restaurant played setting for evening, and the one and only Jose Villa was there to capture every second. From Jenna Lam Events… An intimate group of Joanne and Alex’s closest friends and family gathered to toast their upcoming nuptials at the Wine Cask Restaurant in downtown Santa Barbara. Guests cocktailed in the restaurant courtyard under a canopy of orchid plants, artfully strung by Renny & Reed. Inside, the restaurant was decked in lush arrangements of coral peonies, tulips, orchids and moss. Each place setting featured an aged copper charger set with an immaculately calligraphed menu by the Pilgrim’s Quill and a fiddlehead fern. Guests dined on a 4-course dinner featuring some of Santa Barbara’s finest wines amongst the glow of the tall taper candles.

Ethereal Desert Elopement Inspiration

Great Sand Dunes, graceful calligraphy, and watercolor accents are just a few of my favorite things. And this ethereal desert inspiration? Well, it’s filled with all of them. From amethyst, to unfinished wood, to Flora By Nora accented with stunning silk ribbon, every detail is organic and lovely. Connie Whitlock was behind the scenes snapping up every purple and amethyst hue here!

=

From Connie WhitlockWe took the inspiration for this shoot from the location, the Great Sand Dunes National Park in Alamosa, Colorado. We were inspired by the simplistic beauty, and the raw, natural elements of the park. We chose natural elements like amethyst, unfinished wood, bone (for the silverware), linen, and the silk ribbon. We carried the theme throughout all of the design elements. The stunning and organic feel of the floral design by Flora by Nora included geodes in the bouquet and centerpiece, and amethyst pieces tied into the flowing ribbon that was wrapped around the bouquet. We kept the hair style subtle with a tousled look and the makeup neutral yet stunning by highlighting the eyebrows, keeping the lip and blush in neutral tones with a golden bronze pop of color for the eyeshadow. The invitation suite had torn edges with graceful calligraphy and watercolor accents in deep purple and amethyst hues. The beautiful cake had a simple base layer with accents of purple and bronze. We chose a loose fitting, minimally structured dress with tons of movement. We drove a total of 8 hours to get to the sand dunes and back but it was completely worth it and I loved having the chance to work with some amazing vendors!

Romantic Whistler Winter Engagement Session

I can’t believe I’m saying this but… I’ve fallen in love with winter, all due to this gorgeous engagement shoot from Kim James. With the juxtaposition of the bride-to-be’s Vera Wang (super chic) dress, and her Hunter boots and wool blankets, I’ve basically stepped into my winter dream scene. I’ll be soaking up every single pic since spring is still far away and I’m not ready to let go of this love affair just yet.

From Kim James Photography… Nori and Garet are originally from Texas and they are currently living in LA. They had scheduled a winter vacation to Whistler, British Columbia, Canada and decided it would be great to have their engagement photos taken at a cool destination. The snow and mountains and these two equals one of my all-time favorite engagement sessions. Whistler is a lot colder than LA, but they braved the freezing weather in order to get the shots. Nori wore a stunning Vera Wang dress paired with Hunter Boots and she looked absolutely adorable. It started snowing half way through our session which made for some magical winter images. They are planning a summer wedding back in their home state of Texas.

From the beautiful Bride… Josh and I met in high school and began dating while we were off at separate colleges. We both moved back home to Cleveland after graduation, excited to finally be in the same place. When Josh proposed, we began the wedding planning quickly. I had been dreaming of a modern or industrial affair for awhile, but we couldn’t seem to find the right venue, so we changed tactics. Josh and I didn’t want something very traditional, so we began thinking of alternative venues. It was then we thought of Crop Bistro, one of our favorite restaurants which is located inside of an old bank (think marble floors, bank vault). They do other events, but we weren’t sure if they would host a wedding. As luck would have it, they were willing and available. Holding our wedding at Crop was one of the best decisions we made during the wedding planning. As Crop was already very detailed on its own, we kept the decor more organic with touches of metallics and blush. Being a restaurant, the food was incredible (good food was high on our list of must haves). Our wedding was everything we could have imagined and more. It was like a huge dinner party, complete with our favorite people and their dancing shoes!

While I know there are so many places to find wedding advice these days, I just have a few pieces to share. It is okay to be choosy about your wedding vendors. You only get to choose the right vendors once (and we chose the best!). The whole day goes by so quickly, be sure that you don’t miss it because you are worrying about your missing cake knife (I promise no one will notice!). This day is not just about you, it is also about all the people who have supported and loved you throughout your whole life. Celebrate them too.

Romantic Winter Wedding

As gorgeous as they are romantic, here at SMP we love winter weddings. Especially when said affair includes Casey Durgin and Blissful Beginnings behind the scenes. A snowy gem complete with New England elements makes the perfect inviting winter escape. A culmination of all things cozy and we’re only getting started, see the gallery for much more!

From the beautiful Bride… This romantic winter wedding following a snow storm features a design palette of white flowers, lace, burnished silver, mercury glass and lots of candles. The space was transformed into a warm & inviting winter escape.

My husband and I both grew up in New Hampshire, but we’ve made the North Shore of Massachusetts our home. We decided to get married in January at St. Mary’s in Danvers, MA, and celebrate our marriage nearby, at Ipswich Country Club. We chose to get married in the winter for a variety of reasons – from wanting our wedding to be just a bit “different,” to needing to getting married during a time period when I could take enough time off from work and school (Dan works in software sales, and I work in marketing and take MBA courses at night in Boston) for both a wedding and a honeymoon someplace warm.

When my husband and I started planning our wedding – we chose to prioritize several key components – a location that had charm and plenty of room for dancing, good people to work with, delicious food, and the opportunity to celebrate with our closest family and friends. In terms of our wedding design and decorations – I wanted our wedding to look classic with touches of vintage.

We knew we were taking a bit of a risk by having our wedding in January in New England — and sure enough, we were hit with a snowstorm just two days before our wedding. When the snow started to come down the Thursday before our Saturday wedding, I literally had 10 minutes to pick up my dress (with the help of my amazing maid-of-honor and her husband, who came to the rescue in their large, four-wheel drive vehicle) before the shop closed for business due to snow. We were nervous about how the snowstorm would affect travel for our guests and parking at the church – but as luck would have it, the storm stopped before the wedding rehearsal and we had beautiful snow covering everything for the wedding day.

When we look back now at our wedding day – we are so happy with all the decisions that we made. We had an amazing day with our wonderful family and friends, and are so thankful for all of the people who helped and supported us along the way.

Rustic + Elegant North Carolina Fall Wedding

If you were to Google “rustic elegance” these photos by The Reason I Love should pop right up. I Do Events combined the two distinct styles to a tee, mixing the Bride’s family farm with a beautiful tent overflowing with white and blush florals. Elegant but not boring, stunning but not stuffy, this is my type of soiree and I’ll be in this gallery, taking notes for my own nuptials, long after lunchtime.

From The Bride… I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia my whole life. Since the age of two, my family had a farm in Highlands, North Carolina where my parents took us to get away from the city life. Whenever I thought about where I would want to get married, I knew it would either be Atlanta or Highlands. I watched my friends from home get married in big churches and country clubs. But when the time came and I got engaged, I knew a big city wedding wasn’t for me. I wanted to get married beneath the scenery of grand mountains surrounded by the greenery of the trees and blue skies above. I was never one with a great sense of style, so getting married in a place that was beautiful all by itself sounded perfect to me. I am the youngest of five children, and my mother always made it clear that she felt strongly about us getting married in churches. So I knew that one day I would be married in a small church in town, and then have my reception at the beautiful place that had been so special to me my whole life. This, I thought, was what I wanted to welcome my wedding guests into. This, I thought, was love and joy. Another thing I knew when I got engaged was that I wanted a fall wedding. North Carolina is stunningly beautiful in the fall, with vibrant colors of red, orange, yellow, orange, and every shade in between. The weather is unbeatable, with most days in the low 70s with a cool, crisp, clean mountain breeze. So that about sums it up: I knew I wanted to be married in a small church it town, followed by a reception on the farm I’d grown up on, in the state I had known as home for half my life, and in a season where heaven never felt closer.

Three unique details that was infused into my décor were:

1. Beauty in Nature – Like aforementioned, I wanted to get married at a place that was beautiful in its own rite. We chose to get married in the afternoon so that our guests would get to enjoy part of the reception with daylight. After making most of our guests drive a good distance, I wanted them to all be able to see and take in the place that was so special to me and worth driving for. Because of this, we spread out the reception in such a way that I hoped guests would get to see varying angles of the farm. The guests arrived and walked through the lower valley through candles in wine bottles, crossed the creek that runs through the farm over a bridge, past the garden where the last of the summer harvest was, and into the cocktail hour. During the cocktail hour, guests could drink and eat while taking in all the beauty around them. From there, guests moved farther across the farm, through a lighted arbor, into the valley where the main reception tent was. We intentionally faced the tent so that it faced the creek. Elizabeth of I Do Events likes to incorporate the five senses into every event and wanted our guests to not only see all the beautiful sights around them, but also hear all of the sounds. The fun part about having a reception start at 530 and end at 1030 was that guests got to see the farm with daylight and at night. Once the sun went down, lighting was set up to illuminate certain features of the farm. One such thing was lights around the rope swing near the swimming pond. Thus, by simply highlighting features of the farm and allowing the sunlight to run its course, I feel our guests got a full spectrum of experiences on the farm that day.

2. Romance – I always knew I wanted a wedding with an ethereal feel to it. I wanted the decor to be soft, lovely, and romantic. As mentioned before, i wanted our guests to walk away feeling the love Dan and I have together as well as the special love we have for the farm. I really just told Elizabeth and Paul of Rooms in Bloom my color palate and gave them the liberty to design the wedding. We used a soft color palette to communicate a romantic feel. All the flowers were light pinks, peach, and white. The farm has always been a very peaceful place, so we wanted to use colors and decor that alluded to that peace.

3. Elegance and Sophistication – Though I opted out of a black tie city wedding, I still wanted the wedding to be elegant with details of sophistication. The key was striking the right balance of sophistication at a farm. My team executed this perfectly, with satin tablecloths, mercury glass, crystal chandeliers, and a white dance floor. I wanted a country club look in the setting of a farm valley. There were little touches like draping the ceiling of the tent that I think helped give the reception a lot of sophistication and elegance.

My most memorable moment was about midway through the reception. Dan and I were on the dance floor having the time of our lives. There’s a moment where time froze and I just looked around the dance floor at all of our guests dancing. It was in that moment I noticed how packed our dance floor was and how much fun our guests were having. That ultimately is what brides want and what I wanted – for our guests to enjoy themselves. We handed out Dan + Sarah sunglasses and, more importantly, light up tambourines that people just LOVED. Watching others enjoy themselves was such a memorable gift I will never forget.

Our first dance was to a song called “God Gave Me You” by Dave Barnes. Dave Barnes is a good friend of our family’s who I had actually tried to get to come to the wedding to sing live. Meeting my husband Dan was the greatest gift which I will forever be grateful for.

One thing to note was the bourbon bar. The bourbon bar was a huge hit. My husband’s family is partly from Kentucky, and are thus bourbon enthusiasts. We have a playhouse in the valley at the farm that we thought would be fun to surprise Dan with a bourbon bar. I consulted a couple of his guy friends for types of bourbon and recipes and we ended up with the following: 1792, Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve, Knob Creek, Angel’s Envy, and Maker’s Mark. The drinks available at the bourbon bar were mint julips, whiskey sours, old fashioned, and manhattans. Elizabeth of I Do Events had a sign made to go over the doorway that said “Dan’s Bourbon Bar.” We had the bar setup with two barrels and a wooden top and a handsome man in a tux making all the drinks behind the bar. With 25 bottles of bourbon, the bourbon bar was busy all night and shut down early.

There were a couple of things we did ourselves. My sister had gotten married at the farm three years before and had some letters made out of large wooden sticks and covered in lights that spelled JOY. She had propped them up on the valley hill. I chose to hang them from the barn.

I had my something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Old was I had one of my recently deceased grandmother’s handkerchiefs wrapped around my bouquet. I was named after her so I wanted her to represented. My father also passed away when I was two. I had one of his ties and part of my mom’s veil sewn into the under layer of my dress. New was my wedding dress, veil, earrings and shoes were all new. Borrowed and blue was I wore my mom’s original wedding band on my right hand at the wedding. It is a white gold band with sapphires and diamonds.

Elegant Winter Wedding at Highlands Country Club

Born and raised in upstate New York, I know better than anyone that we are bombarded with dreadfully long winters, making it difficult to remember what the sun even looks like. But this elegant wedding at Highlands Country Club reminded me how downright stunning it can actually be. Kat Harris‘s photos made every moment shine, and from the Bride’s gown to these tables, this gallery captured my heart.

From Kat Harris Photography… Natalie and Jim got married in Upstate New York; they have a special place in my heart. I cried multiple times throughout their wedding… so many beautiful moments. They have something rare, deep, and true, something that can only come throughout years of doing life together which they have.

Upstate New York is gorgeous in the fall and winter. Leaves falling, hot apple cider, and rich jewel tones created an intimate and cozy vibe for Natalie and Jim’s wedding. Erin Braun Design did a fabulous job bringing everything together, from old photos of the couple’s parents and grandparents weddings, to hot toddies, to berry accents throughout the reception.

Cheers to Natalie + Jim and to your beautiful journey… thank you for allowing me to be apart of it!

From Erin Braun Design… When the inspiration for a wedding starts with the most endearing engagement story set at the New York Public Library, then you are bound to have an incredibly heartfelt, romantic, and memorable event. Natalie and Jim’s wedding day was nothing short of magical!

When I first met Natalie she described her vision as glamorous, romantic, and sophisticated with a touch of Southern charm and Victorian influences. She wanted to infuse tons of meaningful details into an elegant, yet cozy atmosphere. The beautiful ballroom, chandeliers, rich mahogany tables, french double doors, an old world Tavern, and a light-filled Solarium at the Highlands Country Club in the breathtaking Hudson Valley was the absolute perfect setting for this wedding. It was one for the books with sparkly details, crisp fall weather, hot apple cider, and a delectable farm-to-table meal. We developed a color palette of rich berry tones – reds, burgundy, and wine with touches of blush, champagne, and gold. Garden roses, ranunculus, and the most beautiful New Zealand red peonies filled the bouquets and tablescapes along with accents of fresh blackberries, cherries, and cranberries. Family vintage candlesticks and books wrapped in handmade gold papers were just a few of the personal touches that helped to tell their story. Three wood burning fireplaces and literally hundreds of candles created the most perfect glow for this oh-so-glamourous wedding!

I will never forget the moment when I revealed the ballroom to Natalie and handed her the bouquet. She just burst into happy tears, hugged me countless times, and said that everything was better than she could have dreamed of and it was the perfect way to start her marriage. There were many more happy tears and moments of sheer joy throughout that day, which were perfectly captured by Kat Harris! It was such an honor to play a small part in Natalie and Jim’s happily ever after and I cannot thank this talented team enough for making it all possible.

From The Bride… A true romantic, Jim worked for months planning the perfect proposal. My favorite building is the New York Public Library, and Jim knew it would be the perfect location to pop the question. In order to get me into the building, Jim told me we were offered a private tour. As we wandered the halls and entered the last room in the building, Jim pulled a book out from the stacks. He had made a gorgeous custom book that told the story of how we met and how life had brought us together. I was in disbelief – and frankly, in shock – of what was happening! After reading the story I turned to the last page and saw a beautiful velvet ring box tucked into the book. When I looked up, Jim was on his knee and had a gorgeous vintage diamond ring in his hand. It was the most incredible day, and we knew we wanted to use this story to inspire our wedding day.

My dream was always to have a beautiful and romantic fall wedding. When we came across the Highlands Country Club in Garrison, NY, we knew we had found our perfect venue! It was everything we were looking for – intimate, cozy, romantic and elegant. Danielle West was our onsite venue coordinator extraordinaire. She was always responsive and attentive to our wedding needs. We couldn’t have asked for a better venue! The food was sublime and the staff were amazing and incredibly helpful. The Highlands Country Club is truly a gem!

To make our vision come to life, we hired the incredibly talented Erin Braun! Erin was the best wedding planner I could have imagined. She was super organized, taking special care with planning every wedding detail, and understood my wedding vision from the start. She knew how important it was for me to have a “detail-filled” wedding. She creatively incorporated the inspiration from our library engagement story and nothing went unnoticed. From the tablescapes, place settings, décor, signs, florals, and cake decor, Erin captured our vision through every meaningful detail and created the perfect day. She also curated the most incredible team of vendors. Through her we were able to secure the amazing Sean Marquand and Gary Hoffman from 74events. They kept our party going all night long! She also introduced us to the amazing duo at NY Ceremony Music. Randy and Topu did a beautiful job creating custom arrangements that set the stage for our ceremony and cocktail hour. Our wedding wouldn’t have come together if it weren’t for Erin. She is one of the most talented and sweetest people that I have ever met and a dream to work with!

We were also incredibly fortunate to work with Kat Harris, the world’s most spectacular photographer! Jim and I consider ourselves a little camera shy, but Kat was able to capture some amazing wedding and engagement photos. She made us feel comfortable and we had a blast with our photo sessions. She knows exactly how to capture the little tender moments between a couple, and she definitely captured ours! We couldn’t be happier with our experience with Kat… we love her!

I was so grateful for the unique save the dates and invitations created by the talented, Lisa Purcell from Art Paper Scissors. Lisa is probably the most patient person that I have ever met. Throughout the process, Lisa made sure to capture our exact wishes for our stationery pieces. We love that our invitation suite is truly unique to our wedding day.

James and I got married on the most beautifully crisp fall day that we could have ever asked for. It was truly a magically romantic day and one that we will treasure for the rest of our lives. Every time I think of our wedding day, I smile. We can’t thank Erin, Danielle, Kat, Lisa and our entire dream team of vendors enough.

Serves 0Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into 8 pieces
  • 5 ounces quality bittersweet chocolate
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup (or an additional 2 tablespoons brown sugar)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 6 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste, based on the saltiness of your peanuts)
  • 1 cup Spanish or roasted,salted peanuts
Instructions
  1. FOR THE BROWNIE CAKE: Preheat the oven to 350F. Grease an 8-inch springform pan and line the bottom with a parchment round.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a microwave safe bowl, combine the butter and bittersweet chocolate. Microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring in between each until just melted. Set aside to cool.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, and sugars until well blended. Add the corn syrup and vanilla and mix to combine. Whisk in the slightly cooled chocolate mixture -- be careful that it's not still too hot, you don't want to scramble your eggs. Whisk in the dry ingredients until just combined. You will have a thick, glossy batter.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth it into an even later. Hit the pan a few times against the counter to release any large air bubbles.
  6. Bake for about 40 minutes (start checking at 35), or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out almost clean, with a few moist crumbs clinging to it.Transfer to a cooling rack and cool for 10 minutes, then remove the cake from the springform pan and let cool completely.
  7. FOR THE SALTY CARAMEL PEANUT TOPPING: In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the sugar, water & corn syrup over medium-high heat Stir the ingredients to combine, the, heat without stirring until the ingredients come to a boil. Once the syrup starts boiling, keep a close eye on it, as once the color starts to turn it can darken very quickly. Allow the syrup to boil until it becomes a dark, amber color -- about the same shade as a copper penny. This will take anywhere from 5 - 10 minutes, depending on your pan and the heat level. If you're using a dark colored pan, you can test the color of the caramel by drizzling a small amount onto a white plate.
  8. Once the proper color is reached, remove the caramel from the heat and carefully pour in about half of the cream. The mixture will spit and spatter, so keep some distance. As soon as the bubbling calms a bit, stir in the remaining cream, add the butter and salt and stir until smooth.
  9. Let the caramel cool for about 10 minutes, then stir in the peanuts. Pour the mixture into a heat-safe bowl and let cool for another 30-45 minutes.
  10. To serve transfer the brownie cake to its serving dish and spoon the peanuts over the top. There will likely be extra caramel, so after spooning all the peanuts onto the cake, spoon a little extra caramel over the top, allowing it to drip over the edges of the cake for a gooey, messy presentation. For a neater presentation, place the cake back into the springform pan after cooling, spoon the caramel peanuts over the top and let set in the pan before serving. Reserve any extra caramel and use at a later time -- ice cream sundaes are a great idea!
  11. NOTES: For a semi-homemade version, skip the homemade caramel and use a prepared caramel sauce instead. This recipe calls for corn syrup, which can be slightly controversial, but it helps add a nice chewiness to the brownie cake. I say that as long as you're indulging, you might as well go for it, but if you prefer you can substitute the same amount of regular or brown sugar in both the cake and the caramel.

Nautical Wedding Welcome Party

We’re about to embark on a day-long indulgence of Jose Villa, and it all starts with a welcome dinner that’s guaranteed to Rock. Your. World. Dressed in nautical design by Renny and Reed and planned by Jenna Lam Events, it’s a mash-up of modern fabrics, bold colors, ocean views, and the perfect affair to kick a wedding celebration off right. Rehearsal dinner festivities coming up next!

From Jenna Lam Events… Joanne and Alex kicked off their wedding weekend with a nautical welcome party at the Coral Casino at the Four Seasons Biltmore. Renny & Reed transformed the patio into a chic lounge space complete with cabanas and deck chairs. We wanted to do nautical in an unexpected way, so we chose classics like navy and white stripes, but gave them an update with modern brass and rope accents. The cocktail bar was adorned with brass porthole mirrors and coral peonies suspended in rope & glass vessels.

We carried the nautical theme to the food, with a giant raw bar featuring all of the couple’s favorite seafood. Since this event also fell on Alex’s birthday, we featured his favorite cocktail, a Basil Hayden Old Fashioned and also surprised him with a doowop group to sing Happy Birthday. Instead of a traditional birthday cake (Alex prefers pie), we presented him with a giant pie cake (turns out, it’s impossible to make a real pie that’s over 2′ in diameter!) so the master bakers at Perfect Endings whipped up a red velvet cake that was a dead ringer for apple pie. Late night, we wheeled around a brass bar cart with all of Alex’s favorite scotches.

Backyard Palm Springs Destination Wedding

If you ask me, this couple had the right idea. With guests traveling from all over Canada and England they opted for a destination “I do” in sunny Palm Springs. Playing up their desert setting they stuck to a light, neutral palette with blooms by Arrangements Floral, and made certain there was good tunes and dancing all through the night. See the day through all Candice Benjamin’s captures right this way.

From The Bride…We knew we wanted our wedding to be a fun celebration focused on our love, with all our friends and family! Our friends and family were excited about the idea of heading to La Quinta for a mini-destination- we had friends coming from all over Canada, and a group of family traveling from England. We decided on La Quinta because its a really special place for us, and the date was too perfect to pass up! We have gone to the Coachella Music Festival for many years, and we got engaged while in California for the festival last year. The day before the Coachella festival this year happened to fall on the day of our 10 year anniversary, April 17, and we loved the idea of getting married on that day surrounded by family and friends, where we got engaged, and then continuing the celebration at the festival for the weekend with many of the guests!

When looking for a venue in La Quinta, there was only one that we had our heart set on – Jeff’s parents house, in the PGA West community. From the beginning, I could picture walking down the aisle that wouldlead through the entrance archway, across the courtyard and down towards the pool edge where the ceremony would take place. We got our wish when we found a caterer, New Leaf Catering, and a florist, Luna of Arrangements Floral and Party Design, who confirmed we could make our wedding happen there, and who were willing to take on the challenge of planning a wedding at private residence with a couple who lived in Canada!

We were not set on any particular color scheme, and instead wanted to make sure that our decor fit the beautiful desert setting. That lead us towards flowers in creams, blush, peach and succulent greens, with additional accents in the decor of gold and turquoise. The bridesmaids picked mismatched blush colored dresses to blend with the desert feel, and groomsmen matched Jeff in light grey suits. It was important for us to incorporate elements of our home on the west coast of Canada into the wedding. We made candle holders from driftwood collected from beaches at home for each table, and gifted each guest with a jar of spicy red pepper jelly from Hornby Island, where my family has a cabin. Luna’s team did a wonderful job on the day bringing all the elements together, to make a day filled with love feel magical.

Music was also a really important aspect of our wedding, as we are such music lovers – with input from friends, we made playlists for cocktail hour, dinner, and 6 hours of dancing. Parents and the bridal party walked down the aisle to ‘Falling’ by the Lumineers, and I was walked down the aisle by my Dad to an acoustic version of ‘Yellow’ by Coldplay – a longtime favorite song of Jeff and mine. One of our best friends from home officiated the wedding ceremony, which took place by the pool with a view of the mountains, and included personal vows and a reading by my Mum, Claire. After the ceremony, cocktail hour in the courtyard lead into dinner, again in the backyard space, which had been transformed during cocktail hour. Guests sipped on our favorite wines and a signature lavender French 75 cocktail, New Leaf Catering provided a fantastic meal with a variety of food stations. For our dessert, my Dad made my all time favorite, his famous cheesecake, as our wedding cake for all our guests, in the form of a cake for the head table and a cheesecake cupcake for each guest.

Two of the best MCs we could ask for entertained us for the evening, and heartfelt and hilarious speeches were followed by our first dance, which was such a special moment for us – we danced to an Eric Clapton song as our friends and family surrounded the dance floor holding sparklers. Dancing, sing alongs, lounging on the outdoor furniture in the courtyard, and photos in the photo booth ran very late into the night, which concluded with a whole group of guys including Jeff jumping in the pool for a late night swim! A day after get together with all the guests at my parents the next day lead right into a weekend of fun and music at the Coachella Valley Music Festival. We could not have asked for a more perfect weekend!

Glamorous Ballroom Wedding in Scotland

This rustic glam affair is what daydreams are made of. Think Marie Antoinette mixed with a secret garden. From the DIY’ed silk and velvet trimmed invitations, to the rich raspberry Planet Flowers blooms, to the castle backdrop of one majestic city, Craig And Eva Sanders Photography  captured a gallery filled with romance for days, here!

From The Bride… Our wedding was a rustic glam affair, think Marie Antoinette mixed with a secret garden, It all started with our invitation which was a wonderful DIY effort by myself (the bride) and my mother!

We sourced 100x100mm kraft boxes and had our names gold foil pressed on the front, I designed little miniature letterpress invitations using inspiration from Laduree fonts and again had them gold hot foil pressed for a glamorous effect. We wanted our invitations to be a little bit different, like a keepsake gift for our guests. We searched far and wide for something different, my mother who loves flower arranging sourced specially preserved roses, real roses that have been treated to last for many months if not years. We decided to put them in gold filigree cones with a pin so all our guests could wear them on the day of the wedding – this was so special and tied all our guest’s attire together. These roses were placed inside each individual box alongside the miniature letterpress invitation.

We said our vows in a beautiful ceremony in St Mary’s Cathedral, and celebrated with 200 friends and family in the Sir Walter Scott Ballroom at the iconic Balmoral Hotel – all set against the backdrop of the UK’s most majestic city – Edinburgh (complete with views of the Castle!)

We wanted to inspire a feeling of romance and ‘cozy’ warmth inside from the chilly Scottish Autumn weather, so there were scented candles everywhere and we ate our meal by candle light alone. Only opening the window drapes as the sun was setting to reveal stunning views of Edinburgh castle.

I am a petite bride who found it super difficult to find a wedding dress that suited my 5’1″ frame, I ended up wearing a custom altered Elie by Elie Saab gown, Louboutin shoes and a custom made veil. My groom had his tuxedo bespoke tailored too by a long standing Glaswegian tailor Jim Forbes. Our groomsmen wore jet black tuxedos, patent dress shoes and Dessy Topaz satin pocket squares to match the glamorous bridesmaids, who wore Lela Rose draped dresses, glittery shoes and crystal drop earrings. Our flower girl wore the prettiest floral crown to match the bridesmaid’s bouquets, a romantic ivory chiffon dress and fur cape.

Rustic Charm in the South of France

Set in the South of France, this darling little wedding has earned a spot in my heart forever. From the venue with it’s sweet mint shutters and potted greens to the cute-as-ever flower girl to the enchanting ceremony complete with a giant chandelier, La Fabrique à Rêves and Greg Finck Photography have delivered a gallery filled with a simple kind of beauty that’ll keep you coming back for more.

From La Fabrique a RevesWe are delighted to share this beautiful South of France wedding with you! A 3 day event with such an adorable couple. Taken by the gorgeous scenery and surroundings, this couple opted for a stylish but rustic destination wedding in south of France. Le Mas des Comtes de Provence is a XV centuries property with charming old stones, beautifully restored and turned into an idyllic wedding venue in the heart of Provence. At the gates of the Alpilles, Les Baux de Provence or Saint Remy de Provence, this is a remarkable place, ideally located.

After a beautiful and moving ceremony under a glamorous big chandelier hung by a gigantic pine in the centre of the garden, the guests were treated to a cocktail hour in the courtyard of a typical provencal mansion.

We used a palette of pastel color with old rose, hydrangeas and olive gorgeously fitting the setting of the historic mansion where the reception was held. The gypsophila flower garland from the ceremony and all the amazing flowers were perfectly done by our beloved florist Virginie from L’Art qui pousse.

The dinner was held next to the swimming pool where the famous caterer La Truffe Noire served a lobster salad with citrus vinaigrette, followed by a roast duck breast with honey and figs from Provence, that all guests have worshiped.

There are so many things we loved about this wedding and we are so happy that Greg Finck, photographer and MG Image, video artist, were able to offer us fantastic images of that day.

A big thank you to Thaïs & Patrick who have entrusted us with organising and managing this important day and with whom we had a lot of fun throughout the preparations. They form a very close unit and pretty family with their adorable daughter and we wish them nothing but happiness.

Philadelphia Blush Pink Ballroom Wedding

Blush pink is one of those wedding colors that just never gets old, so when this couple chose it as the main hue behind their Philly ballroom affair it only made sense. They brought on the talents of Proud To PlanPetah Bashano and Chick Designs to bring their timeless wedding vision to life, and Hudson Nichols delivered big time behind the camera. See it all right over here.

From The Bride…Brendan and I wanted our wedding day to be a celebration of our love, as well as all of the amazing people in our lives that brought us together. We are so blessed to have two very big and close knit families, as well as many mutual friends since we went to Penn State together. It is definitely a good time crew, and we knew that our reception would be a huge party… so naturally we started with the band! We fell in love with the ballroom at the Philadelphia Cricket Club because of its big beautiful windows that line the back of the room, and the dance floor with ample space to dance the night away.

As for the florals and all of the little details, Brendan did what any good Fiance would and nodded his head yes as I worked closely with my mom, my wedding planner and our florist to craft the perfect Shabby Chic, vintage-inspired look for the reception. We were blown away by the final product and we had SUCH a blast! Though as much fun as the reception was, both of us say our favorite part was seeing each other for the first time as my dad walked me down the aisle- we could not wipe the smiles off our faces. I wish I could relive that day a million times over!!

Elegant Fall Wedding at the New York Palace Hotel

This time every week, I start to struggle a bit, and I bet I’m not the only one. But I’ll share a little secret: dive into an elegant affair photographed by Christian Oth Studios and your stresses start to drift away. This classic NYC celebration, planned by Ang Weddings & Events, did just that and more, and I bet you can’t gaze at these stunning orchid bouquets by Tantawan Bloom and not feel a bit better.

From The Bride… Andrew and I met at Lafayette College when I was a Freshman and he was a Junior, we dated for seven years before he proposed on a crisp fall morning in our NYC home; I’ll skip the details but let’s just say he was still able to completely surprise me after nearly a decade of being together! Fall is a special season for us as it brings back all the memories of when we first started dating. Naturally, this made it easy for us to pick October for our special day. New York City was the obvious option for our location; a city bustling with energy and unexpected romance, and where so many classic love stories have taken place – we were excited to have New York be a part of our story too. We have seen each other through many milestones, and developed close relationships with each other’s families and friends. This made it even more important for us to make our wedding day a magical, loving, and unique moment for everyone.

We decided on The New York Palace Hotel as our venue, with its romantic wrought-iron gate entrance and many intricate rooms, it offered the perfect balance of classic New York City charm and old world romanticism. The vendors we selected were amazing and were able to interpret our vision and emotions with such accuracy, it was as if they could see the snapshot in our minds and translated it to be even more beautiful once it came to life. We cannot say enough wonderful things about our talented and professional event planner Ang Weddings and Events, our floral designer Tantawan Bloom and the team from Christian Oth Studio.

We hosted both the ceremony and the reception at the New York Palace in two completely different rooms. We wanted the ceremony to feel intimate and classic. The chuppa took center stage, and was draped with white, cream and pale pink flowers. For a dreamlike effect candles were hung along the back of the sheer fabric adding a magical warmth that enveloped the entire room; a string quartet played our curated list of songs making the entire ceremony personal, touching, and meaningful to our relationship.

In contrast to our ceremony, we wanted the reception to embody the fun and youthful energy of our relationship, but still remain glamorous and elegant – we did this with crisp whites and pastel colored flowers accented with pops of bright pinks, deep plums, and peach. Oh, and there were candles – lots and lots of candles! Two 12 foot long mirrored tables were covered with taper candles, which created a “wow” factor when entering the room. The centerpieces consisted of roses in various colors overflowing with hanging amaranthus and placed at staggered heights to create dimension and playfulness. Everything was tied together by the impeccable lighting. One of our favorite moments of the day is when we peeked into this room after the ceremony, before joining the cocktail hour.  It was just the two of us, and as we opened the doors we both felt our hearts skip a beat and couldn’t help but grab onto each other’s hands – we were completely blown away with how alive the room felt, it was truly a dream!

The night flew by with a flash of smiles, hugs, and so much laughter and love, but I will never forget the moment Andrew and I had our first dance. We were surrounded by over 200 people, but felt completely alone as we danced through our choreographed steps. We came back to earth during our first turn as we heard all of the bridesmaids screaming and cheering us on, followed by the sound of my father’s heartfelt chuckle – the one that he can’t help but let out when he is truly happy, and we both knew at that moment that this was a night we would never forget. From seeing our parents faces light up with laughter (or perhaps fear!) during the Hora, to the very last moment of the night in the Palace courtyard surrounded by our friends holding sparklers under the beautiful autumn sky, we knew all the nights of planning were completely worth it. We couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with total gratitude and love for our family, friends, and everyone who came together and gave us our very own New York fairy tale.

When a team of wedding vendors decide to get together to enjoy dinner together, there is no shortage of style, gorgeous flowers and picture perfect food to enjoy. Meet the team of experts behind a recent spring dinner party that was hosted at Brooklyn’s newest private dining room, “PDR”. Loren Michelle, chef and owner of PDR and Naturally Delicious, a catering and event planning company based in Carroll Gardens, cooked up the feast.

Dinner celebrated the first of spring with fresh greens, delicious hors d’oeuvres, and a handcrafted PDR Pimms cocktail. A table of nine girlfriends and one French chef, the fiancé of caterer Loren Michelle, sat down to this three course spring dinner. On the menu were: Grilled Asparagus with baby mâché, Scallop Risotto, and Peach & Strawberry shortcakes to name a few.

Wedding and Food photographer Karen Wise thoroughly documented each food dish, and took candid shots of the party. Floral and décor by the talented Tinsel & Twine team featured blooming parrot tulips, orange ranunculus, and cream + yellow colored daffodils. Other flowers + greenery used: forsythia, geranium leaves, kangaroo paw, seedum, white stock, geranium leaves. Elegant place cards were hand calligraphed, and each plate set with a custom made menu designed by Patricia Kim of Fourteen Forty, who also designed and painted the type on the front door of PDR, in gold leaf! Each table setting was accented with a yellow leather tassel key chain by Tinsel. Finally, Courtney Arcese of Love + Brain Films, captured the cooking, behind the scenes and the ambience of the party on video.
Special guests included Shira Savada – photo editor at Martha Stewart Weddings, Jess Levin – founder and CEO of Carats & Cake, and digital content and wedding media strategist Anne Chertoff.
