Why No Two Bustles are Alike and Which One is Right For You

Your wedding gown is probably the most epic garment you will ever wear, and sure, the ornate fabric adds to that effect, but what really makes it a wedding gown? The TRAIN! Like most brides, you’re probably wondering–how do you get the drama of a train without it getting in the way while you’re dancing your heart out at your reception? Do you need a second gown, something simpler, for the reception? Should you ditch the train completely? The answer is not nearly as complicated as it seems. You bustle it – it’s that easy!

PHOTOGRAPHY | Anya Kernes Photography

What is a Bustle

When we think bustle, we tend to think of elaborate Victorian gowns or the padded rumps of Cinderella’s jealous stepsisters. While those are certainly relatives of the modern bustle, they are distant relatives. In the past, bustles were used to accentuate the figure and add detail to a design. Today, bustles are primarily used to shorten the train of a gown through a series of buttons and loops, ties, or hook and eyes, to allow for more mobility. Modern bustles can be eye-catching or understated depending on the look you are going for.

PHOTOGRAPHY | Sally Pinera

Types of Bustles

1. American Bustle

The American Bustle picks the train up and fixes it to the outside of the gown, with the end result resembling a beautiful cascade of fabric that gracefully touches the ground. Depending on the length of your train and the fullness of your gown, multiple pick-ups may be necessary. This style of bustle is fairly simple for your alterations specialist to install and is, therefore, one of the most affordable bustle options. The American Bustle is perfect for gowns that are made from sheer lightweight fabrics and have dramatic trains.

2. Side Bustle

As the name suggests, the side bustle is where the train is picked up and fastened to one side. It is an asymmetrical look, which makes it ideal for gowns that are asymmetrical, to begin with. If done right, the side bustle can make the excess fabric blend with the draping on the gown so that it is barely visible. This is a simple bustle to install and, therefore, costs less than your average bustle.

3. French Bustle

The French Bustle tucks the fabric up under the skirt in multiple points creating a more voluminous look. A French Bustle usually requires multiple pick-ups and is great for gowns made from heavier fabrics or gowns that have shorter trains. This is one of the more complicated bustle options both for your alterations specialist and your bridesmaids (mostly due to the fact that it is hidden under the skirt); this makes it one of the more pricey bustle options.

PHOTOGRAPHY | Pinkerton Photography

4. Austrian Bustle

An Austrian Bustle uses a drawstring-type system to pull up the excess fabric creating a ruched effect. It can be done just at the center back seam or in multiple places on the train to create an ornate draping effect. This bustle is complicated to install but easy to use, putting it on the pricier side.

5. Ballroom Bustle

The Ballroom Bustle is the most complex bustle to install but one of the simplest in appearance. This bustle requires your alterations specialist to install buttons or hooks to the waist and various points on the train of your gown. When each of these points is carefully pleated and fastened in place, the train disappears. Because of the level of complexity, this bustle is on the expensive side. It is best suited for gowns with full skirts made from a detailed fabric (like lace) that can hide the multiple buttons and loops.

6. Wristlet Bustle

This is the bustle that always gives us princess vibes. A wristlet bustle takes the tip of the train and fastens it to a loop that goes around your wrist. It looks magical when you’re dancing, but can get a little heavy after a while. It’s best for gowns with medium to long trains that are made of light-weight fabrics. Because of its simplicity, this bustle option is very affordable.

7. English Bustle

An English bustle is similar to a ballroom bustle, where the excess fabric is ornately pleated and fastened to the gown. The difference is that an English bustle is fastened lower on the skirt where a traditional ballroom bustle is fastened to the waist. This is great for mermaid gowns or really any gown that is fitted through the hips.

8. Train-flip Bustle

If you hate the look of bustles, this one’s for you! Your alterations specialist adds hooks or button loops under the hem of your gown so that you can flip it up and secure it underneath–making it look like you never had a train at all! This magical bustle works best with gowns that have smaller trains and a minimal amount of layers and volume.

Why No Two Bustles are Alike

Gowns do not come with bustles installed, this is mainly because gowns are made to a standard length and will need to be hemmed and bustled to just touch the floor when the bride is wearing it. Because each bride can be a different height and her shoe choice can add even more variation, bustles and hems are both performed when you have your alterations done. While there may be standard styles of bustles, the way they are installed depends on the alterations specialist and the gown itself. It is for this same reason that the pricing for bustling a gown can vary from place to place and gown to gown. One gown may work better with buttons and loops while one is better suited to using ties to fasten the bustle. Don’t worry though–your tailor will make these tough decisions for you. All you have to know is what you like and let the experts do the rest.

Enchanted Amalfi Coast Wedding Filled With Uber Romantic Details

The wedding colors were watercolors: blush, baby blue, baby pink, peach, light yellow, lavender, and green.

Day 1 – Rehearsal Dinner: We started the weekend off with a beautiful rehearsal dinner on the dock at the restaurant Bagni sant-anna. We were surrounded on all sides by the beautiful deep blue waters of the Sorrento coastline with a stunning view of Mount Vesuvius and the sunset. The night’s highlights included speeches from family and friends and then we met up with the rest of our guests at one of the popular nightclubs in Sorrento!

Day 2 – Welcome Boat Cruise The next day, we hosted a welcome boat party for all guests. The boat sailed from Sorrento to Capri and we spent the day sailing and exploring around the bright blue waters of the island of Capri! The day was filled with speeches, an original song/performance written about us by jimmy’s groomsmen, swimming in the Mediterranean, and endless music and dancing! We then sailed home and experienced the most perfect sunset while we danced the night away to our favorite music. It was a very fun and unforgettable day and the perfect way to welcome all our guests to the Amalfi Coast after traveling a ways away to celebrate with us! The wedding day took place in an amazing villa literally in the center of Sorrento but the feeling was like you are in some big Mediterranean garden surrounded by lemon and olive trees. We wanted to have this beautiful garden vibe throughout the night!

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]

I had an eye on my dress early on when I was searching online when we started wedding planning. We decided to plan a day of wedding dress shopping in New York City (where I live). The dress I had seen online was available at Kleinfeld Bridal which was our second bridal shop destination planned for the day. I fell in love with a dress at the first shop that was romantic and fun (which was what I was looking for) but it was more trendy and had a cape veil detail. Then when we arrived at Kleinfeld’s, I tried on the Marchesa gown (a collection for Pronovias) that I had my eye on. I loved it so much but was torn between the two dresses. Then, my dad gave me some great advice and asked me the question, “What do you think Jimmy would want to see you in?”. I immediately knew he would prefer the Marchesa gown since it was romantic and fun like I had imagined (the sleeves are so fun!), but the bodice was more classic and timeless, which I knew Jimmy would appreciate. So, my decision was made and we cancelled the rest of the day’s bridal appointments!

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]The bridesmaids were allowed to pick any dress/ brand of their choice. I wanted them to feel comfortable and pick a dress they loved and could wear again. The criteria was to pick any white based floral dress with muted pastel florals. They understood the assignment and everyone looked stunning.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]

This took place around the venue’s stunning pool area with an Italian swing band playing live background music. The aperitif consisted of classic Italian cocktails – Aperol spritzes, limoncello spritzes, negronis, etc. It also consisted of multiple food and live cooking stations – some highlights include mozzarella making, prosciutto cutting, an extensive olive bar and this amazing hanging melted cheese station. The cheese was then sliced and drizzled on toast that was cooking on the grill bellow it (this was a crowd favorite!!). All the food used and cooked throughout the wedding evening was farm to table and made from scratch using ingredients from the villa’s many gardens and groves. The Dinner: The guests then flowed into a covered white wood and glass enclosed reception area. The structure was decorated with lots of greenery, wild hanging plants and bistro lighting. The tablespaces were imperfectly perfect with different height, colored and spaced candles and flowers. We danced our first dance to “say a little prayer” by Aretha franklin, we wanted to dance to something up beat and fun! We ate fresh homemade pasta to start and a local fish for the main meal. However, probably one of my favorite parts of this aspect of the wedding was the speeches. My sister’s speech was extremely sentimental and sweet, which was the perfect contrast to Jimmy’s brother’s speech. Contrary to his officiation duties, no story or joke was safe, so Jeff was able to really let loose and left everyone laughing every second of the way. Then it was my dad’s turn, and he brought the whole crowd to tears. His speech was what every girl dreams of when they picture their wedding day. These three speeches together were the perfect mix of emotions, love, and fun.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]The wedding flowers feature a delicate palette of watercolor hues, including blush, baby blue, baby pink, peach, light yellow, lavender, and green. [field title=”Wedding Cake”]A large rectangular millefoglie Italian wedding cake adorned with berries, perfect for 180 guests.[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]This took place on the stone patio of the villa itself. Our wedding arch was set between two lemon trees and olive trees, so I wanted it to look more natural. The guests enjoyed glasses of prosecco before the ceremony among the venue’s cypress lined pathways and fountain area. The ceremony began with the bridesmaids/groomsmen walking down the aisle to an acoustic version of “tiny dancer” by Elton John played on the cello. Then I walked down the aisle to “your song” by Elton John also played acoustically on the cello. The ceremony was officiated by my husband’s brother, Jeff. This may have been one of my favorite parts of the wedding. He is truly a character and knows of both so well (he went to college with both of us), so he made the ceremony extremely personal, special, loving but also funny and lighthearted. It was perfect.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

Wedding Rings Jimmy found my engagement ring at Erstwhile Jewelry, an antique jewelry retailer in NYC. My engagement ring is inspired by an antique ring design with antique-sourced stones. I wanted something unique and romantic, and it was everything I could have hoped for. For our wedding rings, we decided we both wanted very simple gold bands. We decided to support a local family jeweler near my parent’s home in Connecticut – Addessi Jewelers.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

The Venue: Planning a large abroad wedding was difficult, but my wedding planner Happy Moments Collector made it as easy as it could have been! Finding a venue on the Amalfi coast that could host our large group was no easy task. However, when they found our venue, Villa Zagara, we immediately fell in love and trusted them wholeheartedly. Shockingly, the first time I saw the venue in person was on our wedding when I walked to the wedding venue after doing our first look. I wanted to see the venue for the first time in its full glory and it truly exceeded every one of my expectations! Every inch of the venue embodied our dolce vita/romantic garden party aesthetic perfectly.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]The Weather: I woke up the day of our wedding to thunder and lightning! I couldn’t believe it after the weather had been so perfect for so many days prior. This was a bummer to me, as it would be to any bride, however my Bridesmaids and family were so great about keeping me calm and excited! Every time it thundered my bridesmaids would cheer to drown out the noise as an attempt to keep my mind off of it. This was so funny and sweet of them. However, to everyone’s surprise, the moment I walked out of the hotel room in my wedding dress, as I was walking down for my first look with Jimmy, the sun came out from the clouds and a rainbow formed over the ocean in front of Mount Vesuvius. It truly was the craziest and most magical weather change; we still don’t understand how it occurred. It was such a drastic change that we are convinced it must have been someone watching from above :). After that, there was not a cloud in the sky the rest of our wedding day.[/field]

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]
They chose Provence, France, for their destination wedding. It was a very special place for both of them. Christophe used to spend vacations as a child there and it was there, they had vacationed on their first trip together to France. Marisol had visions of lavender fields dancing in her head. It was the ideal location for family and friends from Europe, a lovely respite for those living in Asia, South and North America to tour Europe.

If they would need to pick 3 words to describe their wedding vision, they would be: Ethereal beauty, romantic and stylish.

As an Image Consultant trainer, working for more than a decade in the image industry, for Marisol everything related to beauty, fashion and design has always been very important as part of her individuality and self-expression. For this reason, she did not hesitate on finding providers that really connected with her vision, even if it meant flying them in from all other parts of the world. Most of their wedding vendors traveled exclusively for their wedding from Colombia, Spain, South Africa and Poland. [/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]In 2017, former model, fashion stylist and image consultant, turned fashion media entrepreneur, Marisol Gómez and pharmaceutical executive, Christophe Meugnier, met in the most modern way.

As an expat Marisol had lived in Miami and New York. After spending some months in Sydney, Australia, Marisol returned home to visit her family in Medellín, Colombia. With tremendous personal and professional ambition, Marisol, a nomadic soul, had lived outside the country for 18 years and her trips home remained a special part of her annual travels. Fortuitously, October 2017 Christophe was the most momentous visit yet as the serendipitously two crossed paths thru a dating app. Christophe, a French Iberophile, fluent in Spanish, had worked and traveled across Europe, Asia, North and South America. Equally a citizen of the world, he had lived in over 9 countries and at the time was working in Perú, while a short weekend trip to Cartagena was derailed and he found himself in Medellin for a weekend falling in love with Marisol.

Initially, theirs’s was a long-distance relationship, where Chris traveled from Perú to Colombia, every 15 days to see Marisol. She had decided to prolong her stay in Colombia, to have the opportunity to spend more time with Chris. 7 months passed, when they both decided to move together to Bangkok-Thailand for Christophe’s new job opportunity, and Marisol continued to run Style & Image Studio, her own online image consulting training business from the Capital of Thailand.

Christophe proposed to Marisol at a romantic dinner at The Six Sense hotel, on the Island of Koh Samui in Thailand in 2019. A true romantic, Marisol started planning the wedding right away. [/field]

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]Marisol’s dress for the ceremony was designed by Israeli designer, Liz Martinez, who custom made the gown for the Singapore boutique, Truly Enamoured. The original dress had long sleeves, but because it was a garden wedding in the summer the bust and body was altered to a sleeveless, V-neck style. Christophe wore a navy-blue tuxedo that was custom made for him in Bangkok. They wanted their ceremonial attire to be timeless, so that years later they could wear them again and honor their wedding anniversary.

For the lavender fields pre-wedding photoshoot, Marisol designed the dress and had the entire gown made to measure bespoke for her. She hired a print fabric designer to create a unique print (inspired by the flowers of Provence) and then tailor designed the dress, based on her vision. Marisol wanted an ethereal, romantic dress, with flight and movement, that would complement the delicate colors of the lavender fields, which she called “Lavender dreams”. To make it more versatile, she created an extra layer in the skirt, which could be removed for times when she needed to be more comfortable. That same dress was the one she wore for the rehearsal dinner. [/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]

The maid of honor, Marisol’s sister, wore a Marchesa design gown.

A few visual references for the guest wardrobe for each event were shared in the wedding website, aiming to replicate the summer provenzal colors (pastel and vivid colors). [/field]

[board_carousel title=”Cocktail Hour”]

[section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Food & Drink”]After the ceremony, there was a cocktail hour where guests enjoyed Provencal-style appetizers and Champagne under the pine trees.

The wine and Champagne were hand-picked by Christophe’s father (from France) who led wine cellars trip in different regions of France specially to pick the highest quality and most celebratory bottles.

From the Rehearsal dinner in the amazing restaurant Airelles from La Bastide de Gordes to the wedding reception-dinner, they carefully picked provenzal style delicious dishes for their guests to enjoy.
[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Following the cocktails came the dinner and reception held under a magnificent tent designed and erected exclusively for their wedding. They did not want to use a typical tent, they wanted something chic and refined, that would give a romantic and ethereal touch. The idea of creating a structure with hanging veils, a Juliet crystal chandelier in the middle and flowers adorning the space was breathtaking.

They paid special attention to the flowers: “we wanted flower arrangements that look very organic, asymmetric and with movement, something different from the more rigid traditional flower arrangements”. Special attention was placed to ensure that the décor of the reception, ceremony and dinner area would blend perfectly with the beautiful and natural setting of Chateau Talaud’s gardens.
[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]Our wedding cake, was made using local products ingredients by Made in Cake. Our wedding designer created a natural flower decor on it. [/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]
Surrounded by vineyards and cypress pines, Marisol and Christophe said YES through a very special ceremony, in which there were several spiritual rituals with the aim of achieving a connection with the energy of love, which was officiated by Laura Gómez, who is specialist in spiritual unions and traveled all the way from Colombia, like the musicians of the ceremony Daniela Di Mari y Orlando Sandoval, close friends of the couple and who delighted the guests with their heavenly voice and music.

Daniela Di Mari sang in different languages during the ceremony, in English, French and Arameo as we all as Sanskrit mantras. Laura, guided the ceremony through very special spiritual rituals: The ritual of light (the union of two souls through candles), the ritual of the roses (the power of roses evoking the energy of love) and the ritual of love affirmations. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]The initial wedding date was planned for June 2020. However, when Covid arrived of course they had to postpone it. June 2022 felt like more than a few years away. Marisol had carefully selected a best-in-class line up of wedding vendors to help create her ideal affair. The extra two years of planning, gave them much more time to bond over the entire process of creating their dream wedding together with their wedding planner, Yesica Lado from Spain.
[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]Pre-wedding romance began with an epic sunrise photoshoot in the world renown Provence lavender fields. The experience was totally magical, amorous and intimate.

The wedding weekend festivities began with a welcome cocktail and dinner at sunset the day before the ceremony at LA BASTIDE DE GORDES-AIRELLES. This dreamy hotel with 18th century décor and exquisite restaurants, has numerous terraces and hanging gardens with panoramic views of the Luberon valley. There they welcomed their 50 guests, including family and friends who traveled from United States, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Spain, Germany, Perú and Colombia. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]The next day on Friday, June 24, 2022, the ceremony and reception took place in the gardens of Chateau Talaud, a beautiful and cozy 18th century French Chateau, located in Loriol du Comtat. Marisol’s family visiting from Colombia, together with the bride and groom were staying at the Chateau. There were large beautiful rooms overlooking the courtyard and garden where they got ready watching the property transform from an amazing estate to a stunning ceremony and event space.

After the bride and groom made their appearance on the dance floor for their first dance, the party started Latin style with everyone dancing, eating, laughing and loving until 2am.

After 3 years of patiently or impatiently planning, 12 hours of romance, flowers, laughter and love filled everyone’s hearts. They wished the night would never end, but the memories and photos and marriage will last forever.

When an All-Star Vendor Team Makes Magic in Tuscany

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Our wedding colors were “Dusty jewel tones” with a key emphasis on dusty lilac – we really wanted to keep it light and whimsical, the venue was so gorgeous we didn’t want to over-power with bold colors. We asked all of our wedding guests to dress in the color palate which really added an elevated vibe. [/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]I really wanted to make it feel extra romantic– being in Italy, in a 1000 year old castle, on a vineyard was so magical and the rolling Tuscan hills in the background really set a scene. I wanted to make sure that for the whole 3-days all of the guests felt like they were part of an experience. Each day was set in a different part of the castle and drew inspiration from the surroundings. I loved an elevated glam but rustic farmhouse cross over which is what we really accomplished through textures and details. Over the pandemic we had loved shows like Bridgerton, we love country music, love wine and food and wanted to incorporate all of those things in the events. Our welcome party was “elevated country chic” theme, we had a cooking class, and wine tasting on the 2nd day available for our guests, then rehearsal dinner with a trivia game about Anthony and I afterwards. [/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Anthony and I met at work and quickly had a lot in common- our love for travel, wine, music, good food, and having our family/friends close. We often visited wineries and had many memberships (and a large collection!). Anthony proposed to me while we were on a trip to Walla Walla (in eastern Washington) at a gorgeous winery with some of our closest friends. Because we got engaged at a winery, we knew we wanted to tie-in wine and a vineyard into our special wedding day. [/field]

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]Surprisingly, this dress was the FIRST dress I tried on. I have always dreamed of being in a Monique Llhulier gown and was able to pick so many classic gorgeous gowns to try on. I picked a few styles which I thought were “different and bold” that were outside of my mental pinterest board of what I wanted to wear. To my surprise I was blown away. My friend immediately started crying. I wanted to make sure it was THE ONE so I tried on what I think were 100s of dresses.. but every time I put this one back on, whoever I was with would burst into tears. It was so wild. I knew that my mom would be the ultimate test of approval and she too did cry. She was the last person to see it on me and it was the last dress I tried on.. I immediately purchased it.

What I loved about the dress was that it was so unique. I didn’t want to wear a veil but I still wanted a dramatic look and the long silk cape just made it such elevated fashion. I’ve always been obsessed with fashion and designed our wedding aisle to be seating more like a fashion show runway versus a traditional aisle. Funny enough, once I said yes to the dress, I knew we needed a gorgeous dramatic venue. The one we had originally picked (in the US) was no longer going to “match the dress” :) [/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]I wanted my bridesmaids to feel just as drop-dead beautiful as they each individually are. Each of them has a different style and different personality that I think really came through with the dresses. I helped curate ideas and wanted each to be in a different color/style/texture. I drew inspiration from a Giorgio Armani runway show where everyone had such different textures and fabrics and it all looked so great together.

combination of Show Me Your Mumu (Jasmine Halter Maxi Dress), Revolve (Sabina Musayev Skylar Gown), Marchesa Notte (Ruched Bodie Tulle Gown and Watercolor Floral Print Ruffle Neck Chiffon Gown), BCBG (Raven Pleated Cutout Gown), Ted Baker (Roger Wool Blend Suit) and Jenny Yoo (Essex Gown)[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]Dressing Anthony for the wedding events was so fun. we worked with a stylist at Nordstrom and with a styling team in LA (stylelab) to create a mood for each event. I loved the look of a white dinner jacket (Armani) with tuxedo pants (Zegna) but wanted to play with textures so we got him velvet louboutin shoes. [/field]

[board_carousel title=”Cocktail Hour”]

[section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Food & Drink”]We were in Italy and obviously went with Italian food. The chef on site at Vicarello deserves a Michelin star — for our wedding meal we had a 3-course meal and served

Starter: Panzanella with Burrata cheese cream
First: Butter and sage tortellini
Main: Steamed salmon with citrus mayonnaise and spinach/ Roasted lamb cooked in milk with Mediterranean herbs

we had two signature cocktails (and drew inspiration from our favorite show FRIENDS, which also reflects somewhat our personalities as a couple)- “the Monica” was a tequila with lime juice (the way I drink my drink) and “The Chandler: was an old fashioned with blood orange (Anthony’s favorite).[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]To go with the fairy-tale vibe we sprinkled touches of butterflies throughout our decor (on the cake, stationary and some of the table settings). My florist and design team worked together to incorporate our color palate and really made it all look like a dream. [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]Our wedding cake was designed and created to match our theme and was a delicious Chocolate cake with gianduia cream and raspberry geleé. we also had a more traditional Italian Sponge cake with chantilly cream. [/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]My best friend since 7th grade officiated our wedding and we had a string quartet for our ceremony music. Nicky flawlessly delivered a heartfelt ceremony which included quotes from our favorite movies, tears and laughter. To draw inspiration from the show bridgerton, we picked all fun songs and wanted our guests to “name that tune”– our wedding party walked down to Hoobastank “the reason”, I walked down to “Speechless” by Dan + Shay, and we walked out as Mr. and Mrs. to the friends theme song “I’ll be there for you” by the rembrandts. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]First look with Anthony– we had a weather warning all day and were nervous about the rain. We had to call-in for last-minute tenting the night before the wedding and rushed to get everything set. Right as we were about to start out first look we got a few droplets of rain. Not only did Anthony cry, which I knew he would, it was just a magical moment between the two of us. We had about 20 minutes of special time together before we had to be basically shared for the rest of the evening. Those photos of the rain were some of my favorites taken the whole day. As we were wrapping up and got back to the main castle, the sky opened and it started POURING rain which caused us to delay our wedding for about an hour. As soon as the rain stopped, the sky cleared up and it didn’t rain the rest of the evening.. just leaving a perfect (a little warm) afternoon.
[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]All the little details. My team of vendors really did an amazing job pulling together the most perfect details– from the little butterflies in the cake, tied to the butterflies on the invites etc. alongside the gorgeous velvet linen (which we flew in from the US to match), I had no idea what the flowers or the cake was going to look like (I trusted my team to make those decisions) and they were just perfect. We also added a few Persian traditional moments throughout our day — we did a cake knife dance, and I was able to have special moments with my family — including a first-look with my Dad, where he cried so hard![/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]We laughed, a LOT. there was a lot of special tears and a lot of laughter which is exactly how I wanted the day to go. Anthony held up the wrong hand during the ceremony and I put the ring on the wrong finger.. which led to a hysterical video, to jumping in the pool (every night) all with our clothes on at the end of the night. It was a big fun close-knit group that got to enjoy this special week with us.

Organic, Botanical Wedding In Cincinnati’s French Park

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

Dusty blue, navy, primrose, and blush.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

French Park in Cincinnati incorporated this couple’s effortless love of nature at the red brick manor, which allowed for a space to host their event while also enjoying the beauty of the public park. “We both love spending time outdoors – walking our dog, going on hikes, gardening. So we knew we wanted to have our wedding be outdoors. We picked The French House because it was perfect for this as well as being able to have our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception on site. Our wedding planner, Samantha, captured our personalities perfectly and our love of nature and incorporated a lot of these elements into the design.”

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Sentimental in spirit, Shelby and Nick have always loved quiet time spent together. They first met working together at a bar and grill in downtown Cincinnati. Throughout their relationship, the two have enjoyed time spent outdoors with their dog, hiking, and gardening. While their engagement wasn’t flashy, they describe it as being “very us.” Nick proposed with a family heirloom ring from his grandmother while the two were cozy in their living room. It was perfectly sentimental.

The natural woods of the tables and rich browns of decor elements reinforced the earthy color palette of muted yellows, mauves, and blues. As the day moved to the reception, a gorgeous tent was set with long drapey curtains that delicately let in the daylight. An outdoor dance floor was printed with the same watercolor design as their invitations to tie everything together.[/field]

[field title=”Special Detail #2″]”Some design details we loved were the overhead floral display above the head table and the printed dance floor that was a copy of the watercolor in our wedding invitation. Both really completed the room.”[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]”There were so many great moments during the wedding, but spending the morning and afternoon getting ready with our bridal parties and parents was a really special way to start the day. Wildly Romantic All White Wedding With A Reception Under Twinkling Lights

All white with sparkling mirrored details. The bride is a longtime lover of all-white weddings.

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]The vision for this outdoor ceremony was modern glam while keeping it light and airy. We were able to achieve just that using elegantly lush all-white florals and linens atop sparkling mirrored tables and crystal clear chairs. It all came together underneath a romantic sky of twinkling lights.[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

I had a feeling that he might propose during the time frame my parents were in town, and the night we were supposed to have dinner with my family, he told me he was going to pick me up early. He took me to his parent’s backyard, that he had decorated with flowers from their garden. I had always wanted an intimate proposal with no one around, so it felt absolutely perfect. We then went to a nearby restaurant to celebrate with both of our families. Even though the proposal itself wasn’t a surprise, the ring sure was!

Chic Chateau De Champlatreux Wedding Inspiration Done In The Tones Of Springtime

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”The Inspiration”]

The inspiration behind this stunning day at Lauren Fair’s workshop in Paris was a modern twist on the historical French elegance. Truly, one does not need much to make the icon Chateau De Champlatreux shine, but with the help of wedding planner Elizabeth Goal from East Made Co, and florist Floraison Paris, they teamed up and created a visionary masterpiece. From the ceremony site arch to the reception table design, each detail complimented the Chateau, but while making a bold statement.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

The color scheme reflected Spring time tones. The ceremony floral arch complimented the soft dusty Fresh blue tones of the Chateau front door with pastel yellow, purples, and pinks. Where the florals on the reception table mimicked the ceremony but had a hint more richness of pink. A bold pop of pink tones that sat on a soft dusty French blue tablecloth.

[/field]
[field title=”The Venue”]

Chateau De Champlatreux is truly one of the most iconic and historical places sitting outside the city of Paris. As you enter through the grand gates of the property, you are swapped away by the Chateau’s beauty. Once you walk through the lush hallways and grand ballrooms, you are teleported back to the 17th century. One can’t help but to feel as if born into royalty while on the stunning property of Chateau de Champlatreux.

The bride wore a chic princess-cut wedding dress during the ceremony, with short pearl beaded gloves that were wrapped with a black velvet bow. It was the perfect touch to compliment her gown, as well as the ambiance of the Chateau. As the night came to an end, the bride changed into a more form-fitting wedding dress and a second veil that was embroidered with white florals and beads. Both effortlessly chic wedding gowns were designed by Dylan Parienty Paris.

All of the florals that Floraison had arrange were magnifique (magnificent in French)! The soft pastel tones of yellow, pink, and purple, enhanced the beautiful of the Chateau front door. As the floral arch dripped over the couple, it frame not only them perfectly, but the front door as well.

[/field]
[field title=”Favorite Design Element”]If you choose to have candelabras on your table settings, consider draping florals from them. It added a little special extra texture and beautiful to the reception tables. [/field]
[field title=”Tips To Pull Off The Look”]

If you are considering following the trend of wearing gloves at your wedding, I highly recommend it! Truly, it was the perfect touch of elegance and grace, especially adding the bow to tie them to your wrist. If not for the entire wedding day, then why not for a little bridal session during your getting ready process. Gloves are simple, yet add so much beautiful to your wedding look.

A Pink Lover’s Floral Fantasy Wedding

[section title=”The Planning”]

New York Chic Meets Croatian Charm: A Heritage Wedding to Remember

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]The inspiration for the wedding colors was to go beyond the usual fall color palettes of green and orange, which the bride found to be mundane. They wanted to make their wedding more romantic and fuller, so they added touches of pink and maroon to the color scheme. This helped them in achieving a more vibrant and captivating atmosphere, while still complementing the natural surroundings of the venue.[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The bride and groom envisioned their wedding in Croatia as a simple yet elegant affair that emphasized the natural beauty of the venue and their Croatian heritage. They incorporated meaningful details, such as custom candles and food elements, in the décor. They chose a romantic color palette of pink and navy to deviate from the typical fall colors. The culinary aspect, especially through Michelin-worthy food and olive oil favors, played a significant role in celebrating the groom’s profession as a chef and the importance of food in Croatian culture.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

In a heartwarming ode to their love story, Chris orchestrated a beautifully sentimental proposal at the very spot in Prospect Park where they captured their first selfie together as a couple. He thoughtfully arranged for a mellifluous jazz band to set a romantic ambiance, and, unbeknownst to her, he had gathered their closest friends and family who were stealthily hidden amongst the foliage. A photographer was also discreetly present to eternalize the magical moment. It was an exquisite and flawless proposal that was every bit as perfect as their love.

The wedding guests were treated to a gastronomic delight at Luciano Restaurant, a renowned restaurant in Istria. Known for its exquisite cuisine that marries traditional Istrian flavors with modern culinary techniques, Luciano offered an array of delectable dishes. The Michelin-worthy food was not just a feast for the taste buds but also a testament to the couple’s appreciation for fine dining, particularly significant given the groom’s profession as a chef.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

The florals and decor for the wedding were masterfully designed by Maja Starek from Showroom design & Events. With a keen eye for detail and a flair for creativity, Maja curated a breathtaking ensemble of floral arrangements and decorations that effortlessly complemented the natural beauty of the venue. The use of seasonal blooms, lush greenery, and carefully selected decor elements brought a sense of harmony and romance to the space, reflecting the couple’s vision for an elegant wedding with meaningful and understated touches.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

Luciano Restaurant in Istria also had the honor of crafting the couple’s wedding cake, which was a harmonious blend of simplicity and taste. The heavenly vanilla cream cake was adorned with a symphony of fresh mixed berries, creating a tantalizing and visually stunning centerpiece that perfectly aligned with the couple’s vision for elegance and culinary excellence.

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

One of the deeply sentimental reasons that led Stephanie and Chris to choose San Canzian as their wedding venue was its close proximity to the village where Stephanie’s beloved grandmother was born. Her grandmother held an immensely special place in Stephanie’s heart, having been a significant and cherished part of her life. By selecting a venue so close to her grandmother’s roots, Stephanie felt a profound connection and a way to honor and include her grandmother’s memory in one of the most important days of her life. This added an extra layer of meaning and emotional depth to the couple’s celebration.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

In a unique twist on a traditional wedding element, the couple chose an Istrian cookbook as their guestbook. This creative choice was not only a nod to their love for the local cuisine and Chris’s profession as a chef but also served as a beautiful keepsake of heartfelt messages from their guests. Every time the couple explores a new recipe, they’re greeted with these cherished notes, adding a dash of love and fond memories to every culinary creation.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]The wedding reception was held in the venue’s orangerie, which underwent a complete transformation into a captivating space brimming with elegance and romance for the special day.[/field]

Old World Inspired Shoot With a Nod to Pride and Prejudice

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”The Inspiration”]We took inspiration from the Texas Hillcountry sunset and the old world victorian era. We wanted the florals and settings to feel like an old English tea party and wedding ceremony. We incorporated old books, fine china and dainty details to make one feel as if they’re in “Pride and Prejudice.”[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Peach, Mauve, Mustard, Blush[/field]
[field title=”The Venue”]We chose Ma Maison for its iconic greenhouse structure located a few steps from the reception hall. We wanted a venue that felt like the English countryside and had plenty of trees and vines to mimic the look of a forest. The grounds are perfect for an outdoor reception and the surrounding landscaping makes for the perfect backdrop of an English tea party inspired table scape.[/field]

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]The florals and decor was where this entire shoot started. We based everything off the floral color palette. Our main goal was to accomplish a garden feel and create designs with movement. The tea party vignette was inspired by Pride and Prejudice. We used thrifted tea sets, old books and small floral arrangements to create an encompassed picnic scene. For the arch, we wanted it to compliment the dresses and couch to create a cozy, painting inspired vignette. Only garden roses were used in order to mimic the look of a trellis.[/field]
[field title=”Favorite Design Element”]We loved the visual textures we used. Lots of floral patterns were at play in the tea set and dresses. We wanted the shoot to feel soft and feminine and give a nod to our love of old English patterns and designs.[/field]
[field title=”Tips To Pull Off The Look”]Our best tip to execute this look is to balance textures and solids evenly. For our tablescape we chose a solid velvet linen but took pink rattan chairs to create visual interest. When in doubt choose florals, delicate details and vintage inspired furniture to pull off this look.[/field]

How to Cut Wedding Costs in Clever Ways Without Sacrificing Style (That You Don’t Already Know)

Everyone knows that planning a wedding can be expensive. In the age of social media, with lavish styled shoots populating your every feed, it’s easy to find yourself with champagne taste and a canned wine budget. Before you dismay, there are quite a few tricks that can help you cut your wedding costs without sacrificing style.

1. Hire a Wedding Planner

Lauren Fair Photography

Now, I know this may sound counter-intuitive. Spend money to save money? Crazy, right?–Wrong. Wedding planners have spent years establishing relationships with vendors and have usually worked out exclusive discounts for their clients. In addition to the discounts that you may be offered, your wedding planner has worked with these vendors before and confirmed that they deliver on their promises, thus protecting your investment. Otherwise, you could be handing over deposits to mysterious vendors that may or may not come through: a risk you don’t want to take.

Part of your wedding planner’s job is to work within your budget and help you allocate it accordingly so that you get the most bang for your buck. They know what options have the highest price tags and what corners can be cut without impacting the overall experience and presentation.

If you find that hiring a wedding planner is simply out of the question budget-wise, many planners offer a day-of or a month-of option. These vary by planner, but most include some vendor recommendations/relations. You are investing so much time and money into your wedding, it is worth this little extra cost to make sure that everything leading up to your big day runs smoothly. It’s important that you and your partner are in the moment and able to enjoy yourselves, rather than worrying about what door the baker is going to use to deliver the cake, etc.

2. Shop Sales

Esther Sun Photography

Whether you are shopping for your gown or your wedding lingerie, make sure to shop sales. If you start shopping far enough in advance, you have a few months that you can wait before you need to make your purchase.

For the gown, you can contact the designer or boutique and inquire about upcoming trunk shows. These will likely be advertised on the events page on their websites. At trunk shows, boutiques usually offer a discount that can be up to 10% off – how amazing is that?!

Shopping sample sales is another great way to save money. These are sales that bridal boutiques have when they need to make room for new inventory. They sell their floor samples at up to 50% off (yup, you read that right) their normal retail price. There will likely be some wear and tear, but most samples are kept in fairly good condition.

3. Shop Pre-owned

Lauren Fair Photography

This option isn’t for everyone, but if you know what you want and are willing to buy gently used items, you can save a lot of money. There are more and more used bridal boutiques popping up, in brick and mortar and online.

Before buying a used gown, make sure you know what size you wear. Each design house has its own size chart; so, look up their specific size chart before you buy a gown. Also, keep in mind that these gowns have been used, so the bride that wore them before most likely had alterations (hem shortened, bodice taken in, etc.). Ask the bride or the boutique to provide the measurements of the actual gown before making the purchase, because they may no longer match the original sizing.

For rehearsal dinner dresses, suits, tuxes, accessories, and even shoes there are many websites that make it easy to buy pre-owned designer goods, some still have the original tags! Some reliable sites are The Real Real and Poshmark.

4. Request a Staycation for Your Bridal Shower/ Bachelor(ette) Party

Jose Villa Photography

Is it just me, or have the parties leading up to a wedding gotten out of hand? It used to be a night out with your closest friends. These days, it’s a week-long exotic trip across the world…plus a drink package. Don’t get me wrong, nothing could be more fun and worthwhile than jet setting with your besties, but when you’re planning a wedding it can feel like one more huge expense. Be real with your friends and family and express that it is important for you to spend time celebrating with them and suggest that you have a weekend together in the city where you live. This will save you the stress and expense of a flight and taking time off work. I’m sure some of them will thank you for keeping it low-key; after all, being in a bridal party isn’t cheap either.

5. Use Your Friends’ Talents

Photographer: We Are Origami

Do you have a friend that’s in the wedding industry? If so, use their talents! They will probably offer you a “Friends and Family” discount or may even gift you the service as a wedding present. Whether they are a hair and makeup artist, a baker, or a florist, don’t hesitate to tap into your own network. You’ll feel better spending the money investing in a friend’s business, and it will make the day even more special!

While there are a lot of pluses to working within your circle, make sure to do your research before you inquire about their services. First, ensure that their style fits your vision. Also, consider how your personalities mesh. It can be tricky doing business with friends and family, you want to make your planning less stressful, not more!

6. Have a Friend or Family Member Officiate

Jeremiah and Rachel Photography

Hiring an officiant can be expensive and often impersonal, especially if you and your partner don’t already have a relationship with a spiritual leader. Instead, select a friend or a family member and ask them if they would be willing to get ordained and perform your wedding ceremony. It should be someone who knows you and your partner and can speak eloquently. Getting ordained is easy to do online, takes just a few minutes, and costs a fraction of what most officiants charge. Plus, you get a personal touch and don’t end up with a complete stranger in the background of your wedding photos–Win, Win, Win!

7. Buy Your Own Alcohol

Photographer: Mike Cassimatis-MNC Photography

This is a great money saver, but it totally depends on your venue; some require that you use their bar. If you are able to supply your own alcohol, you can save by buying your favorites in bulk from wholesale clubs and direct from wineries. This also ensures that you have Dad’s favorite whiskey and your favorite seasonal red, rather than relying on a generic bar package. Another plus, you get to keep the unopened bottles. You can return them and put that money back in your pocket, or you can save them and bring them out for special occasions.

8. Suit Up

Nikol Bodnarova Photography

I love a tux moment as much as anyone, but it is a brave new world and tuxes are no longer mandatory. Men, you are still expected to look your best, but your horizons have expanded exponentially. Suits are becoming a popular substitute for the classic black tux. Thanks to a number of brick and mortar and online retailers, you can choose to purchase or rent your ensemble. If you do decide to purchase your look, suits can be worn over and over again…and to more than your annual charity gala.

9. Have Your Ceremony and Reception at the Same Venue

Savan Photography

If you’ve always dreamed of getting married at your quaint childhood church, chances are, space may be limited and this may not be an option for you. But, if you are more flexible with your venue, look for a place that has the look you are going for and enough space for both a ceremony and a reception. You can even speak with your wedding planner about arranging a “flip”.  A flip is when your wedding planner and their team take the ceremony space and transform it into a reception space while your guests are enjoying cocktail hour. By having your ceremony and reception in the same location you save on venue rental fees (set up, clean up, booking, deliveries, etc.), decoration expenses, and don’t forget…transportation. Transporting your guests from one venue to the next can prove to be quite expensive and confusing. If you can eliminate a trip between venues, your wallet and your guests will thank you.

10. Do Your Own Hair and Makeup

Brett Heidebrecht, Photography

This is something that I recommend, but cautiously. I only recommend this if you want something simple that you are confident you can execute alone. If you do decide to go this route, make sure to try out the look ahead of time and watch some tutorials on how to make your hair and makeup last throughout the day. If you do decide to hire a hair and makeup artist, you can save money by skipping the touch-ups after the ceremony.

11. DIY with Caution

Ruth Eileen Photography

We have all seen wedding DIY gone wrong, so if you do decide to DIY, please, do so with caution. Save it for simple projects like assembling favors or escort cards.

12. Buy, Don’t Rent

Ashley Rae Photography

When it comes to tablescapes and decorations, the bill can add up quickly. Rather than paying the rental fee, purchase the pieces you want in bulk for the same price as the rental, and resell them later. For this tip, think chargers, tablecloths, runners, candelabras, and other decorations.

For dishes, silverware, and glassware, I recommend using the ones supplied by your venue or catering company. You don’t want to spend the days after your wedding doing dishes.

13. Order your Wedding Invitation Suite Online

Photography: Honey Gem Creative | Invitations: Minted

Wedding invitations are your first opportunity to make an impression on your guests. There is a growing trend of intricate invitation suites with hand-pressed paper and artisan calligraphy. While this appeals to our insatiable desire for beauty, it can come with a hefty price tag. Thankfully, if custom calligraphy is out of your budget, there are several websites that offer customizable printing packages and some even have calligraphy font options that look like the real deal.

Bee Lavish provided antique, mismatched, floral patterned china which paired well with the head table’s floral meadow runner. Our favorite arrangement would have to be the head table. We incorporated local blooms from Texas farmers to bring in the whimsical wildflower look while also keeping the design romantic and cozy. [/field]

A Classic Blue and White Wedding on Martha’s Vineyard

Nestled in idyllic Martha’s Vineyard, a truly heartwarming classic blue and white wedding unfolded. The magic woven into every detail spoke volumes about the incredible Plan It Martha’s Vineyard team, who effortlessly turned dreams into reality. Courteney and William’s wedding on Martha’s Vineyard is a must-see. Their love story is what really makes this couple so special. Courteney & William both grew up spending Summer in Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard. William lived across the street from Courteney’s best friend, and that’s how they met.

After dating long distance for several years, William proposed in Jackson Hole and had her whole family waiting to celebrate the happy news. They decided to get married, where it all began, back on Martha’s Vineyard at the Edgartown Yacht Club.

From the couple’s dog, Tugboat, being featured in their invitations from Happy Menocal to driving off in William’s grandfather’s vintage navy blue Mercedes and their nautical-inspired blue & white details, you’ll love every magical minute.

We are thrilled to share the exquisite wedding of Taylor and Mark, a celebration that unfolded with elegance and charm at the breathtaking Rava Winery. As avid travelers and lovers of the Central Coast, it was only fitting for this delightful couple to choose a venue that holds a special place in their hearts. With their shared passion for wine tasting and Mark’s background in agriculture, the winery served as the perfect backdrop for their joyous occasion. From the very beginning, Taylor and Mark wanted to ensure that their guests, who had traveled far and wide to join in their celebration, felt truly welcomed and appreciated. The festivities commenced with an intimate rehearsal dinner held at Rava Winery, showcasing the versatility of the venue by utilizing a different area of the property. This thoughtful gesture set the tone for the entire weekend, creating an atmosphere of warmth and togetherness.

In keeping with the winery theme, every detail of the wedding exuded subtle nods to the couple’s shared love for this enchanting location. The wedding invitation featured a custom illustration of the winery, elegantly serving as the liner, while also making appearances on the wedding ceremony programs. These artistic touches beautifully captured the essence of this winery wedding, making it a truly personalized experience for Taylor and Mark’s cherished guests. To bring a touch of glamour to the event while honoring the winery ambiance, we curated a design aesthetic that harmoniously blended sophistication and natural elements. Lush florals and acrylic signage infused the celebration with an air of elegance, while textured linens and wooden accents on the chairs introduced a soft and organic feel. The result was a stunning visual tapestry that seamlessly combined the best of both worlds. The ceremony itself was a sight to behold, set against the backdrop of the iconic Rava fountain.

As guests mingled during cocktail hour, Taylor and Mark delighted them with unexpected elements of fun and excitement. Light-up letters spelling out their last name added a personalized touch, while a horse bar trailer brought a unique and whimsical flair to the gathering. As the sun began to set, the reception unfolded in the grand event space, transformed into an ethereal wonderland draped in billowing white fabric. Softness pervaded the room, creating a romantic atmosphere that enveloped guests in its embrace. A focal point of the evening was the massive floral hoop suspended over the dance floor, a captivating sight that left everyone in awe. Against this backdrop, a 12-piece band set the rhythm for a night of joyful celebration, complemented by delectable cuisine and exquisite wines that delighted the senses. Taylor and Mark’s wedding at Rava Winery was a true testament to their love for each other, their cherished guests, and the beautiful Central Coast. Every aspect of the day was thoughtfully curated, resulting in a magical experience that will be remembered for years to come. It was a celebration that seamlessly merged their passion for wine, their devotion to each other, and the desire to create unforgettable memories surrounded by those they hold dear.
