Understanding Exactly What It Means to Be a Luxury Wedding Planner – The Why Behind the Price

The editorial team here at SMP recently had the exciting opportunity to interview planner extraordinaire Becca Atchison, Founding Partner & Creative Director at Rebecca Rose Events. She’s spilling all the details about exactly what it means to be a Luxury Wedding Planner – from their typical clientele and the average cost of their services, to words of advice and questions to ask before signing the dotted line. Keep on reading for everything you’ve been curious to know about the luxury wedding world.

Photography by Olivia Suriano

How would you describe the typical “luxury” bride or groom? What are they looking for?

I hesitate to use the term “luxury” to define or describe any bride or groom, but rather to describe a standard of quality that is important to a couple. We all define luxury in a different way and it’s a relative term. That said, when we say that we offer a service to the luxury market, we generally mean that we’re best suited to serve couples and families who value a planning and design process that is incredibly comprehensive, cohesive, and feels effortless, comfortable, original, and truly elevated from start to finish.

Our clients place a high priority on the guest experience, and while it isn’t always about opulence, there is a mutual understanding that we will create a powerful moment of extravagant celebration in their lives. Luxury is never just about the way a wedding looks, or how much is spent to create a certain look. It’s about the way a wedding is felt, lived, and enjoyed. Therefore, our work is highly tailored to each couple’s unique preferences, personalities, hosting style and sensibility.

A couple who seeks the professional guidance of a luxury wedding planner or designer expects excellence and customization. There is often a greater focus on original artistry. We carefully orchestrate a live event that will be filled to the brim with thoughtful touches that elevate the way their guests encounter that moment of celebration. In our view, it’s important that a luxury wedding should exceed traditional expectations, and bring exceptional hospitality to the forefront.

What is the average budget for a luxury wedding?

This can vary tremendously, but it is traditionally accepted that a luxury wedding budget will range from approximately $100k to $500k, and a budget above and beyond $500k are considered “ultra luxury”. Though it’s helpful to have those defining parameters as a starting point in terms of understanding the economic impact of the wedding industry, not every luxury wedding necessarily involves a budget upwards of $100k, and it’s most helpful to consider the investment per guest, rather than an overall figure. Over the course of the pandemic, we saw a renewed focus on creating a luxury experience with a smaller overall headcount. For example, I would argue that a $70k-$80k wedding for 40 guests could be easily be considered a luxury experience, considering that represents an investment of $1,750 to $2,000 per person and is sure to involve an elevated approach to hospitality!

What are some services that go beyond the typical call to action for a wedding planner that you provide?

It’s a fair baseline expectation that any full-service wedding planner will give professional guidance, help source vendor partners, review contracts, create timelines, coordinate with vendors, and oversee the onsite execution of the wedding. That’s a very simple characterization of a complex process, but that’s what any client should reasonably expect from any full-service wedding planner, even at a low level of experience as a baseline.

A full-service planning approach for a luxury wedding is significantly more involved, and much more often described as a concierge style of service. Our clients invest more, but there is also a much greater return on that investment. In addition to logistical orchestration and event design, we also guide responsible budget stewardship.

Each wedding is different, but in general we know that there are some core elements of our approach that will always exceed the bounds of typical expectations of the average wedding planner. Some examples of this include invitation assembly and mailing, comprehensive RSVP management, creation and maintenance of custom wedding websites, etc. Those aren’t service upgrades that we charge for on an a la carte basis. They’re services we provide to all of our clients as part of our overall process. Our company is unique in that we are a comprehensive planning, design, and production company, so we’re also creating original design plans that encompass in-house fresh floral design and onsite installation, graphic design and print production, etc.

Perhaps one other pronounced difference is that we don’t merely pull from preferred lists of vendors. Each and every time we begin working with new clients, we treat that wedding as the individual project it will be, and we do extensive research and vetting to build a custom team of professionals who will be the very best fit to serve our clients and work together to create a cohesive and wonderful experience. In other words – I’m not going to hand our clients a list of ten photographers and say “pick one”. Instead, I’m going to bring  significant time, effort, and expertise to the table and curate no more than two or three selections (sometimes even just one!) that I feel will be the very best options for our clients.

Everything is custom. Every part of our approach is tailored to our clients and their preferences so that we blend our expertise and experience with their wishes and dreams to produce the most exceptional results.

What’s something you wish couples knew when considering hiring a wedding planner?

Comparing wedding planners is not comparing apples to apples! Every company is different. For example, not every wedding planner is a designer, and vice versa. And not every planner who offers event design has an in-house design team. No two planning companies are quite alike, and it’s important to find a person (or team) that you feel a comfortable connection to such that you can see yourself discussing important or sensitive family dynamics, budget goals or concerns, and other details you may not so readily share with even your close friends.

The season of your engagement as you prepare for your wedding is so emotionally significant, and while your wedding celebration should feel personal and joyful, it’s equally important that the planning process leading up to it feels that way too. A planner who has your trust and a good connection with you as a couple, will be able to serve you infinitely better than one who you aren’t able to trust. It’s worth it to spend the time up front really considering the expertise, experience, demeanor, personality, references, portfolio, and conversation/communication style of any planner before hiring one. While pricing is obviously important if you have budget concerns, the adage is true: you will get what you pay for. There is no single more important investment you can possibly make in the success of your wedding and your happiness throughout the process than to select and entrust the right planning team.

Photography by Heather Beerman

What questions should potential couples ask their wedding planner before booking?

Ask about the planner’s processes, and their approach to planning, event design, and onsite coordination. Ask how many people you can expect to work on your wedding day. Ask for references. Don’t be afraid to discuss your expectations and budget parameters candidly. It’s important that you hire a planner who has experience working with the level of financial investment you are preparing to make – whatever it may be, and that works both ways. A planner who typically produces weddings with a $2k+ per person budget is likely not a good fit for a client who has a budget of $700 per person, and vice versa because their knowledge of that level of the market will be lacking.

What would be your best piece of advice for couples when it comes to determining their overall wedding budget?

Unless you truly have unlimited resources at your disposal, the healthiest way to determine a budget for your wedding is to enlist the professional expertise of a wedding planner – even if for nothing other than hourly consulting to help you gain a realistic understanding of what your wedding will cost. The next step is to determine a “do not exceed” amount. Whether that amount is $20k, $200k, $500k, or $1 million, this advice remains the same. That doesn’t mean your wedding has to cost every penny of that amount, but it is incredibly helpful to have something to work backwards from. The alternative is to work upwards… with no end in sight until you hit a figure that feels uncomfortable to you. In theory that may not seem that bad, but practically speaking, it’s a recipe for wasting time at best, disappointment or sacrifice in quality at worst, and the need to backpedal. A father of the bride once told me, “you know what a wedding costs”, but the truth is that he may as well have said that I know what a house costs. There is literally an infinite amount of possibilities, and like buying or building a house – a level of budget expectation is critical if you want to avoid costly investment mistakes that you can’t unwind.

Any skilled and experienced planner can offer you estimates and ranges, and help guide wise decision-making when it comes to making choices that align with your financial goals. But no planner can do that without knowing two critical pieces of information: (a) your estimated headcount and your degree of willingness to adjust that count if needed, and  (b) your expectation for the budget and/or a do-not-exceed number. Without that information, everything is guesswork done in the dark. Start by thinking through those two questions and then allow a seasoned professional to guide you and present you with realistic options.

What are some of your most memorable wedding day details from past weddings?

Oh goodness, there are so many, and we work very hard to create memorable details at every single wedding throughout the entire event. Sometimes it’s the way the entrée is presented in synchronized fashion. Sometimes it’s the way the lighting is programmed to change at just the right moment to signal a transition for the guests. Sometimes it’s the family recipe we print on a cocktail napkin to share the significance of the hors d’oeuvres being enjoyed.

When we think about wedding day details, we think far beyond the idea of having cute “stuff” for the sake of having stuff. If there’s a print element or floral arrangement, a personalized/monogrammed pillow, a large installation, or anything else of that nature – we want to be sure it is deployed in a way that is thoughtful, cohesive, intentional, and functionally relevant. Stuff is just stuff, but design elements that are created to further a cohesive story are the type of details that make all the difference. Similarly, food and beverage service or live performances that are orchestrated to blend into that story are a game-changer in how a couple, family, or guest experiences a wedding! To us, memorable wedding details are those that are grounded in a cohesive design plan that engages all five senses.

What should couples know about the fees associated with hiring a luxury wedding planner? What does the typical breakdown of what’s included look like?

Fee structures can vary greatly depending on the location, unique business model, and experience level of the planner, but overall it’s important to understand that a luxury wedding planner’s fees will be – and should be – a significant portion of your budget. In fact, it’s a red flag if you find a wedding planner offering to plan and manage a luxury wedding at a price point that aligns with a planner operating in the average wedding market. While each project is different and there is no way to know at the start of it exactly how many hours we’ll devote to any particular client’s wedding, we know from experience that our time will measure in the hundreds of hours – easily 400-500 – sometimes even before we reach the wedding week. Whether your planner charges a flat fee, or a percentage based fee (set as a percentage of the overall wedding budget), it’s reasonable and prudent to expect the final compensation to align with 15-20% of the overall budget. The industry standard is 18%. That can seem high to some at first, but if you consider the amount of time and responsibility required, you will quickly understand that a planner should cost more than the band, more than the photographer, more than most other vendor services. If you’re hosting a luxury wedding, a planner of the right caliber is a tremendous asset to have in your corner and can help maximize and protect your investment in literally every other facet of the wedding. At the end of the day, no single other vendor or entity will pour more time, thought, expertise, or hard work into your wedding celebration than your planner, and nobody else can possibly be as effective an advocate for you or your overall vision.

Maui Wedding in Stunning Hawaii Citrus Colors

From Dmitri and Sandra: “We loved the colors they chose for their Maui Wedding, a Hawaiian citrus palette in peach, yellow, and bubblegum. “

From Dani at Taryn Stark Wyant Event Planning and Design, “We wanted to create something that was soft and intimate, something that added to the stunning venue and view. Stunning lush moments, such as the ceremony arch and the greenery overhead at dinner, really made the space sparkle and had guests whispering wow as they entered.”

From our bride Ary, “My biggest advice is to trust your wedding planner, and even though things may not go as planned- your wedding day will be absolutely perfect because you are celebrating your big day with your closest family and friends in the most beautiful island!”

From our Bride, Ary: “After looking at countless designers and boutiques in NYC, I chose my Reem Acra gown after trying on so many gowns! I was looking for a modern but fun gown that was fun to dance and light and airy enough for Hawaii. I loved the flower appliques that adorned the gown and matching veil.” The wedding shoes were Amina Muaddi and Jimmy Choo.

A magical moment from the wedding day was the freshly chopped coconuts that the couple provided to their guests. They were either infused with natural coconut water or rum from the bar. These coconuts were truly unique. The wedding planners also surprised the couple with specialty branded ones with their names and logos!

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

“The intention in the florals was not to compete with the stunning Hawaiian landscape but rather intertwine a soft garden touch to the day. Wedding day florals strayed away from the typical tropical options you so often see at a wedding in Hawaii and instead went with stunning garden blooms like lisianthus, roses, and zinnias. Greenery was specifically ivy, enhancing that intimate garden vibe in the floral décor.” ~ Event Designer, Dani of Taryn Stark Wyant Event Planning and Design

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

The wedding cake was a simple three-tiered cake with a stunning pop of florals. In a tribute to their Hawaiian location, it was lilikoi (passion fruit) flavored—the perfect complement to their day.

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]”Our ceremony was so special because my uncle was the offiicant. We performed our own vows and it turned so emotional so quickly! The ceremony was in both Korean and English that was very special to our family and friends who attended.
Our favorite moment of our wedding day was listening to our speeches and being able to perform our own vows. Although we were legally married a year and half ago- it felt so special to get married in front of our loves ones again! We waited so long for this day and it felt so amazing to see the results of more than 2 years of planning! I loved going through the reception and finding all the small details that were thoughtfully planned!”[/field]

Ary surprised Leo with an outfit change for her reception. She wore the foxiest bespoke mini by Cult Gaia.

[field title=”Special Detail #2″]”Our reception was so special because of the intimate dining set up that was perfect for our smaller guest count. The long tables adorned with candles and flowers evoked the intimate dinner party feelings I was after. We loved our speeches from our close family and friends! Leo’s family video tribute did not leave a dry eye in sight and it was important to have them a part of our wedding since they were unable to attend. “[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]”Alaina of Lumaca Paper captured our citrus wedding colors perfectly! We wanted to evoke the Hawaiian sunset with our color scheme. We chose Lumaca Paper because it was a sustainable letterpress studio that gives back a portion of sales to replant trees. We chose Papel & Co for our day of stationary. We chose peachy tones and decided to choose a flower laser cut welcome bag tag. They were a perfect addition to our Apolis Aloha Bags!”[/field]

Lush Garden-Inspired Wedding On Top Of A Mountain

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

The wedding colors were light blues and pinks pastels.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]Avita and Brian’s vision for their wedding was a blend of romance and timeless elegance, drawing inspiration from the Regency era. They aimed to create a lush garden setting atop a mountain, adorned with delicate pastel-hued florals, setting the stage for their classic and refined celebration. Gold accents were incorporated into their flatware and china accents, providing a touch of opulence. To complement the soft pinks and yellows of the flowers, a pale blue color scheme was elegantly woven throughout their wedding design. From their stationery to napkins, menu cards, candlesticks, seat card ribbons and even their wedding cake, a consistent pale blue hue added cohesiveness to their decor. As guests arrived, they were greeted with crystal coupe glasses filled with rosé, welcoming them to this enchanting mountaintop affair! The dinner tables, aglow with candlelight, featured individual, hand calligraphed menus, highlighting the care and thought they poured into their day.[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Avita and Brian’s story began with a chance encounter in 2014 at a bar on New York City’s Lower East Side. Their connection was instant, and from that point on, they became inseparable. Five years later, the couple embarked on a spontaneous weekend getaway to Nantucket, A quick getaway, just because — or so Avita thought. After a sunset walk along the seaside cliffs, Brian proposed in front of the historic Sankaty Head Lighthouse with a custom-made, sapphire and diamond engagement ring (Avita’s birthstone). As his IG caption will tell you: SHE SAID YES!

Avita’s wedding dress, a creation by Lee Petra Grebenau, was discovered at Spina Bridal in New York City. Her choice was the enchanting Esther gown, originally featuring floral embroidery, a fitted skirt with peek-a-boo panels along the sides, and a luxurious embellished train. To infuse her personal style into her dress, Avita added layers of tulle to the front and side panels while altering the straps for enhanced structure. She also worked with the designer to create a fully custom, long-sleeved, floral-embellished bodysuit designed for the ceremony, allowing her to seamlessly transition between two distinctive looks within the same dress. During the ceremony, she donned a pair of ivory satin and pearl Badgley Mischka high-heeled sandals, switching to flat Jimmy Choo pearled sandals for the reception. Completing her ensemble were a pearl and gold bracelet borrowed from her mother and classic diamond and pearl drop earrings.

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]When it came to her bridesmaids outfits, Avita adopted a relaxed approach. She requested that her bridesmaids wear floor-length dresses in any shade of blue, along with neutral heels. The specific style and fabric selections were left to each woman’s personal choice, and the result was beautiful!

Every groomsman donned a classic black suit paired with a crisp white shirt, black shoes, and a coordinated black tie, which was thoughtfully presented as a gift by the groom on the morning of the wedding.
[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]

Brian had his tuxedo tailor made at Giorgenti New York. Crafted from deep navy Italian wool, it featured a black satin shawl collar lapel and matching pants adorned with a black satin side stripe. Beneath the jacket, he wore a textured white shirt personalized with his initials embroidered on the cuff. Completing the ensemble were a black bow tie (because it looks cooler with a tux), black suspenders, a white silk pocket square, and sleek black velvet loafers.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]

To cater to various palettes throughout the night, we included an abundance of food. Cocktail hour featured six different passed hors d’oeuvres, including bacon-wrapped dates with blue cheese, tomato and basil bruschetta, brown butter-seared scallops, duck confit tostadas, house-made hummus on rye bread with toasted pumpkin seeds, and wild mushroom tartlets with Parmesan cheese. For the plated dinner, we started with a spring salad made with a mix of greens, shaved carrots, candied walnuts, dried cranberries, and citrus vinaigrette. Guests had the choice of oven-roasted chicken, seared salmon fillet, beef filet mignon, or a vegan option of tofu and vegetable stir-fry in curry and saffron rice. Late-night snacks during the after-party included passed canapés like crispy mac and cheese, fried cauliflower with truffle aioli, and mini pizza bites. Stationary options featured Maine lobster rolls, wagyu burger sliders, and buffalo chicken sliders. For our drinks: In addition to full bar services, Brian and I opted for two signature drinks. The groom’s choice was an old-fashioned bourbon named the Szab-Old Fashioned, and the bride’s preference was a spicy mezcal margarita named the Spicy Marg-Avita. We welcomed guests into our ceremony with a Lillet Rose aperitif served in coupe glasses and enjoyed Prestige Domaine Carneros Brut Rose during our toasts. For dinner, we selected California-made wines – La Crema Chardonnay and Landmark Overlook Pinot Noir.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Partnering with ARVO floral studio, we aimed for a summery, vibrant palette featuring shades of light pink, dusty rose, and pale peach, with buttery tones for dimension and a pop of brightness. The floral arrangements included ranunculus, garden roses, peonies, magnolias, and sweet pea flowers. We opted for an asymmetrical open arch at the end of the aisle to showcase the mountain scenery and oversized arrangements at the aisle’s start. Lush centerpieces, filled bud vases, and tapered candles adorned the reception tables, creating a garden-like atmosphere inside as well.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

To offer variety, we collaborated with Allison Kern from Lake Tahoe Cakes for our sweets. We chose a classic 3-tiered wedding cake. The top and bottom layer consisted of vanilla cake with a raspberry jam and vanilla cream filling. Our middle layer was a chocolate cake with a dark chocolate ganache. The cake, frosted with vanilla buttercream, had a pale blue base and a piped gold leaf filigree pattern. Our dessert table featured assorted cupcakes, cake pops, macarons, cheesecake, personal strawberry shortcakes, lemon meringues, and tiramisus.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

For Avita and Brian’s ceremony, they opted for a string quartet to welcome guests. Avita walked down the aisle to Kris Bowers’s rendition of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, featured in Bridgerton, as a reminder of Avita’s upbringing and her love for the romantic Bollywood movie of the same name. To conclude their ceremony, the quartet played “At Last” by Etta James – an ode to their long-awaited celebration due to the pandemic. For their cocktail hour, Avita and Brian paid another heartfelt tribute to her heritage by featuring the sounds of a Steel Pan group named Spice Island to entertain their guests. This delightful addition brought a whimsical touch to their event, which was enjoyed by all! For Avita and Brian’s reception, they chose DJ Patrick Diaz to keep the party going! They entered their reception to “Everlasting Love” by Carl Carlton and had their first dance to “Coming Home” by Leon Bridges. They closed out their wedding reception with a traditional Trinidadian tassa drum recessional to clear out the dance floor and get everyone excited for the after-party!

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

Avita’s meticulous attention to detail was a cherished aspect of her wedding planning. She sought to create a unique atmosphere by incorporating personal touches throughout the venue. To evoke lasting memories, she filled the space with her and Brian’s favorite scent, “Santorini,” from a local candle company called Brooklyn Candle Studio, which was present through candles and room diffusers.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

The reception area featured treasured family photos in elegant gold antique frames alongside their photo booth to create new memories. They also opted for a “telephone guest book” with After the Tone so that their guests could leave messages on vintage phones that they could treasure forever. At the children’s tables, cookie painting sets kept the little ones entertained, and a delectable dessert bar showcased the couple’s favorite treats alongside their wedding cake.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]In a nod to Avita’s Trinidadian heritage, each place setting included a homemade hot sauce bottle, created by the bride’s sister and filled with traditional hot sauce prepared by the bride’s aunt. Personalization extended to edible drink toppers and cocktail napkins featuring their wedding crest. As parting gifts, pashminas matching their florals were graciously handed out.[/field]

Interior Designer’s Vibrant San Miguel de Allende Wedding

When I first visited San Miguel on a girls’ trip, I instantly fell in love. Being an interior designer, I loved all the gorgeous architecture and beautiful doors. After dinner, we had gigantic margaritas on each table so we could all share, it was lots of fun.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Flowers were very important. We had different shades of pink in the ceremony area with touches of greenery, framing the black antique door. We love pink, and we wanted to make sure that we had different tones of pink all over the wedding.[/field]

Wild Garden Wedding at San Ysidro Ranch Lush With Thousands of Flowers

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Pink, Orange, Green[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

From Imagine… Our design was a romantic European Old World Royal garden feel with an abundance of flowers in a warm summery palette of peaches and pinks with an accent of green textures. The Casa de Perrin floral plates were selected to convey a feeling that the flowers were growing from the tables in the garden for dinner. An ethereal canopy of twinkle lights enveloped the garden to create an intimate fairytale ambiance. Star-shaped pendants suspended from the arbor over the bridal table and bar were included to present a dreamlike ambiance. One of my goals was to create an evening where all the senses were heightened by the beauty of the setting, the melodies of the string orchestra, the taste of the culinary cuisine, the smell of the fragrant flowers, and the touch of loved ones hugging and sharing in the joy of Alex and Patrick’s marriage. I really wanted to blend the two worlds of the new age couple with the more traditional aspects of their parents to create an evening of enchantment for everyone.

Guests enjoyed an al fresco dinner under the stars—the real ones in the Santa Barbara sky and the canopy of twinkle lights and hanging star lanterns. Two signature drinks were served at cocktail hour, a Blood Orange Margarita and a Blackberry Collins. Dinner was a three-course menu featuring the best of coastal California cuisine with the choice of a seafood starter then SYR’s famous tortilla soup or a burrata salad followed by a choice of halibut, chicken or strip loin.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

The entire wedding was an overflowing vision of a fairytale garden with an abundance of flowers rooted in the earth. The ceremony featured a giant floral structure dripping in a sherbet of roses in pinks, creams, and coral tones. The aisle was lined with a wild garden of flowers that looked as if they’d magically sprung up from the ground leading their way to the ceremony structure. The wild garden continued into the cocktail hour with floral tablecloths and a large central bar also adorned with large floral statement pieces. The unique arched cocktail sign had flowers growing from it, echoing the ceremony, and guests even got to take flowers home with them via the beautiful escort card vases. The reception featured an abundance of flowers in all shapes and sizes and layers upon layers of beautiful floral plates and a sea of twinkling candles. The party carried on into the evening in the Stone House under a canopy of hanging greenery and roses to really set the scene of a magical enchanted space to dance the night away within.

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

The cake was four tiers featuring beautiful pink sugar flower roses and was surrounded by candles and cascading florals.

Where Trends Meet Tradition in a Pastel Palette at The Guild

[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

Soft and romantic tones of lilac, blush, champagne and buttercream paired with neutrals in taupe, sage and terra-cotta with citrus and poppy touches and gold accents for the first day then transitioned into neutrals of creams, sand, walnut and deep sage with soft tones of apricot, peach and blush paired with Bordeaux, berry and accents of marigold and wood for the second day!

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

{A taste of the good life} Classic Romance with trendy touches where whimsy meets all things fun in a palette of dreamy pastels giving a nod to our couple’s love of sunsets at the beach. Playing to their shared love of trying new restaurants and complimentary careers we created an event that was both fresh in design and beautiful.. infusing warm wood textures, soft velvets and architectural elements to allude to a warm and colorful Moroccan night. We wanted our couple to take in the view of their loved ones sipping on curated cocktails as they were invited to dine among soft candlelight with specialty china and florals sprawled across the tables creating an elegant and comforting atmosphere enjoyed by all. Cozy lounges and unexpected touches helped to tell their sweet love story throughout the night. Hearing the music swell as guests took in all the joy and laughter under festive market lights as the day turned to evening and everyone danced the night away!

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Florals: Ranunculus, sweet peas, dahlias, hyacinth, foxglove, honeysuckle paired with seasonal blooms and fresh foliage.

Guests were greeted with instrumental music and sat down to white and cane chairs and lush florals at the ceremony framing the couple perfectly. Craft cocktails were enjoyed on as guests chatted at the sage green bar in the library and visited at tables draped in camel velvet while yummy passed apps made their way around. Walking into the reception tables were draped in blush linens with runners on long tables in a beautiful embroidered floral pattern. A mix of lilac and sand plates sat on clear and white rimmed chargers with bone and gold accented flatware. Soft blush + lilac napkins sat on top of the tabletop with a watercolor menu and acrylic fruit shaped name card. A blush water goblet, lilac coupe and nude wine glass complimented the setting perfectly. Lilac velvet chairs made for the comfiest of seats while guests sat under market lighting to dine. A cozy lounge made up of an amber velvet sofa, lilac side chairs, blush poufs, and a yellow edge scallop rug allowed guests to hang out and kick up their feet after a night of dancing!

Day 2: A day filled with good food, lots of dancing, and so much love! Guests sat down to long family style tables draped in embroidered white linens with taupe corduroy chairs. Terra cotta plates with velvet green napkins sat upon each plate with guests name on an acrylic gold name card. Camel taper candles, lush florals and wood bowls filled the tables with fresh fruits to add some texture and color. A beautifully draped wood cabana was adored in carnation garlands for the cake to sit under and served as a focal point of the reception space. Mustard velvet and taupe velvet pendants hung above the tables with fresh greenery to bring the space to life. A cozy lounge was nestled underneath the “family tree” where guests could gather amongst the cocktail tables draped in a fun green and white color blocked linen with a bud vase of florals.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]After guests finished their entree’s they were served a Lemon Meringue Cheesecake and Tropical Pavlova before hitting the dance floor at Darlington House!

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Fruits and Vegetables were woven throughout the weekend as a nod to our brides career as a dietician and our groom on his way to become a physician. Bowls of fruits + veggies adorned the tables with florals and candles to create a lush garden like feel. We even created a Farmer’s Market like stand that held fresh pears in trays, baskets and bowls with guests names and tables calligraphed on them for the escort display![/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]Both Jaclynn and Wes shared an immense love for their family and friends and wanted to honor them throughout the weekend! We created a “Family Tree” that held photos of each guest with their table number for the second day festivities. Tuscany-Inspired Wedding At Viansa Winery

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

Ashley and John incorporate natural colors like greenery and earthy tones to complement their vineyard setting.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]This Italian Tuscan-themed wedding, had elements that reflected the rich culture and flavors of Tuscany, yet set right in the hearty of Wine Country. Viansa was the perfect venue with their rolling hills of vines, olive groves, and the most beautiful gardens reminiscent of a Tuscan landscape.

Our couple oped for an outdoor ceremony surrounded by grapevines and the most picturesque scenic views.

Their guests dinned on the outdoor terrace under the most romantic string lights with long family style tables lined with candles.

We wanted our wedding to feel personalized with elements that were sentimental and special to both of us. Of course, we wanted it to be beautiful and we were going for that true Tuscan inspired feel, but more than anything, we wanted this day to reflect us as a couple. The things we love, the people we hold dear, where we grew up, things we have grown to enjoy together and other unique touches that made our wedding unique and special to us.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]It was the most beautiful and romantic proposal, John proposed in my hometown at a winery on the hilltops of the Willamette Valley just before Christmas, which happens to be my favorite holiday!

The proposal was late in the afternoon, just as the sun begins to set over the valley. And it was perfectly planned l just before Christmas to combine the joy of the holiday season with the magic of the moment. There was touch of mist in the air which only enhanced the romantic atmosphere, creating such dreamy and magical ambiance. John lined a path of white rose petals to the most perfect proposal spot.

After the proposal, we got to celebrate with a glass of champagne and soak in one of the most memorable moments of our lives. [/field]

We decided to design the reception space with long banquet-style tables for a communal and intimate feel, similar to traditional Tuscan gatherings. We chose a hand crafted menu featuring classic Tuscan dishes like bruschetta, pasta with truffle oil, and grilled meats with olive oil. Incorporating fresh and local ingredients were important to us and Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa did just that! We created signature his and hers cocktails which added the perfect personalized. HIS: A Spicy Margarita that was flavorful and zesty! A twist on the classic margarita, with an added kick of heat. HERS: A classic and refreshing Italian cocktail Aperol Spritz, of course! Late-night wood-fired pizza was a crowd-pleasing choice for us. We had a wood-fired pizza station right outside the Pavilion along with a Gelato Cart for the most perfect late night treat!

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

A true Tuscan wedding is often associated with rustic elegance and the natural beauty of its surroundings. When it came to flowers and decor for Ashley and John’s Tuscan-inspired wedding, we incorporated elements that reflected the region’s charm, including Viansa’s picturesque landscapes, vineyards, and warm color palette. Ashely and John’s florals were a mixture of roses, peonies, with touches of greenery like olive branches which allowed us to create a loose organic look that stayed very true to the natural beauty of Viansa Sonoma.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

Neither Ashley or John are huge cake people, so offering an assortment of Gelatos and late night espressos made more sense! They did however keep their guests in mind and Fleur de Lisa Cakes designed a 2 Tier red velvet cake for those cake lovers to enjoy!

Santa Barbara Wedding Overlooking The Pacific Ocean

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

The wedding colors were French blue, classic navy, gold, muted blush, and white.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The word chic doesn’t really do this wedding justice because it’s so much more than that. It’s a balance between the elegance of Bacara Resort & Spa and the transformative design by Wedding Kate, perfectly captured by This Modern Romance. When Courtney first discussed her vision, she wanted to make certain all elements complimented the venue, being sure not to cover or hide anything. She wanted to make the design feel authentic and intentional, and through sumptuous textures, detailed design features, and a few statement pieces, she achieved it. Courtney was drawn to the delicate French Chateau style and loved the idea of using color and shape to speak that into the design. Wedding Kate thoughtfully developed a plan to showcase the venue’s natural beauty, setting the ceremony atop the bluff overlooking the blue waters of the Pacific. To add a refined touch, she added a custom-built aisle with a harlequin stone pattern, blending the soft floral palette with the sharp lines of the coastline. Courtney was a stunning bride in a classic gown with a timeless chignon and soft, glamorous makeup. She met her groom Sean for I do’s before enjoying cocktail hour overlooking the villas of the resort. An oversized handmade chinoiserie seating chart held cards to direct guests to their dinner seats, which featured stacked gold rim plates and ribbed crystal glassware. The final candles were lit on the terrace beneath the crystal and glass chandeliers. Vines hung overhead to help complete the garden dream, with French touches thoughtfully throughout the tablescape and place settings. Courtney and Sean were showered with love and toasts from their friends and family and, in turn, treated them to a champagne tower, complete with edible flowers. Moving into the party, guests were welcomed by Ben Mallare to get relaxed and party down on the dance floor. The cake was cut, the last song played, and the newlyweds strolled to their villa under a sky full of stars. It’s no wonder Santa Barbara is called the American Riviera; these chic European details sure look good on her.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]After traveling the world together, the couple, based in San Francisco, planned a family ski trip in December of 2021 to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. After hitting the slopes for a couple of days and the weather forecast becoming increasingly intense, groom Sean began to get nervous about his timing. The weather didn’t let up, and he realized he wasn’t going to get a break in the constant barrage of snow, so he gathered their families on the slopes, and got down on one knee to pop the question. Courtney was thrilled and couldn’t have imagined a more romantic place to be able to come back to a relive this special moment. [/field]

Guests enjoyed 30-Day Aged Filet Mignon, Seared Salmon with Thyme Buerre Blanc, and Local Summer Vegetable Lasagna, highlighting the Central Coast’s excellent organic farms and regional cuisine. The menu was expertly paired with a beverage program that included Jordan Cabernet, Brewer Clifton Pinot Noir, and Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc. Showcasing the couple’s favorite local bar cocktails, trays passed old-fashioned and Spicy Margaritas allowed guests to sample what a Friday night as husband and wife would look like. They simply had to name the cocktails after their furry date night companions, who couldn’t be in attendance at their big day.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

From the very beginning, Courtney had a clear vision; she knew she wanted a French elegance infused into her design plan and elements that had never been seen at her venue. From the custom harlequin aisle to the chinoiserie seating chart and the layered silk tasseled menus, French luxury was seen and felt at every turn. Her florals were soft and featured peonies, black-centered anemones, tulips, roses, and a variety of hydrangeas. Her ceremony arch was lush and constructed not to block too much of the enviable California coastline. Her bouquet featured theme flowers with a touch of astilbe to give a touch of delicacy to balance the structure of her dress. We chose textured ribbed glassware for the tables, rimmed in gold. We selected light wood tables and chairs to allow the classic navy to anchor the table setting and bring visual interest to the tabletop. The oversized chandelier in the ballroom was draped in fresh florals, offering a luxurious element to bring depth and whimsy to the dance floor.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

The wedding cake featured tiny, petite, handmade sugar flowers created to look like petals and cover the cake in a natural, organic pattern. The soft color of the cake was developed to include the muted blush tones in the florals. The intricate design was balanced by the simplicity of the cake stand, allowing the detail to shine.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

The string quartet’s sound carried to the hotel entrance, so guests were summoned by romantic sound the moment they entered the valet. The quartet played classical pieces as guests arrived at the Bluff, which overlooks the ocean.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

We used custom art to create the chinoiserie seating chart, adorned by each guest’s name, hand calligraphed and finished with handmade silk tassels. Oversized, the chart was displayed at cocktail hour and stood 8 feet tall by 12 feet wide. The custom artwork featured the couple’s monogram in the center.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

Our champagne tower allowed guests to briefly pause dancing and grab a glass of sparkling to give them the momentum to stay until the last dance. We chose to have our bride and groom do the honors of a celebratory pour, which resulted in cheers and laughs as the champagne overflowed and required a quick sip. The tower was stacked with vintage-cut crystal glassware, a fun journey from the cleaner lines displayed on the dining tables.

A blue and white printed fabric with bird detail was also used on the linens at dinner, and to inspire other details like the seating card display. We used a large iron birdcage to display the seating cards.. and printed birds “picks” were used on cocktail hour menu items. The inspiration for the photo shoot at Villa Del Balbianello on the shores of Lake Como stemmed from its breathtaking natural beauty and timeless elegance. This shoot aimed to blend the essence of love and union with the unique harmony of nature, history, and art that defines this enchanting location.

Lhuillier’s signature blend of femininity and sophistication shone through in the exquisite detailing and graceful silhouette of the dress, perfectly complementing the romantic and luxurious atmosphere of the shoot.

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]The overall vibe for this wedding was to create a formal yet inviting atmosphere to set the perfect tone for an unforgettable wedding celebration. Bash Please brought the vision to life using the natural landscape of Gardener Ranch, the floral artistry of Marigold, and bringing in classic pieces from Theoni Collection and Casa de Parin. The al fresco dining experience and candle lit dinner added to the romantic atmosphere along with the musical talent of the Jensen Singers.

There are also passed appetizers of ahi tuna and mini avocado toast. Dinner included items like a peach and artichoke burrata and sea bass with lemon. And of course, for dessert, an incredibly beautiful and delicious vanilla and chocolate cake designed by Alana Jones Mann.[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Marigold is just an incredible floral artist! The floral design for the ceremony was very organic and blended into the natural landscape of Gardener Ranch appearing as though it was always there. There were wildflower fields created walking into the ceremony and around the altar. This theme also translated onto the seating chart table where Marigold again created a wildflower landscape. Overall everything was just stunning! [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]The wedding cake is amazing!!! A real piece if art! Designed by Alana Jones-Mann who created cake art with her textured floral cake using the wedding day flowers and colors as inspiration. As a fun note the bride surprised her groom the day before with his own grooms cake created by Alana Jones Mann that showcased the Grateful Dead! Everything not only looked amazing, but tasted incredible! [/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]The bride and groom love music! A Modern-Chinoiserie and Romantic Wedding at Stanly Ranch

[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

For Ivy and Ryan’s wedding in Napa Valley, the celebration goes beyond being a mere fusion of different aesthetics; it serves as a poignant witness to the emotional journey from idealism to reality—a perfect embodiment of the union of love and life. The amalgamation of distinct artistic styles, including surrealism, modern gothic, and French chinoiserie, transforms the wedding into a captivating narrative. Surrealistic art takes center stage, emphasizing imaginative creativity and presenting incredible images and scenes that leave a profound sensory impact. The modern gothic style, with its emphasis on curved metallic elements, introduces an innovative vibe that adds a touch of intrigue to the wedding ambiance. Simultaneously, the romantic charm of French chinoiserie seamlessly blends the romance, delicacy, and elegance of French style with traditional Chinese elements like goldfish, lotus leaves, and calligraphy, resulting in a subtle and captivating visual effect. In the end, Ivy and Ryan’s wedding not only showcases the unique qualities of each artistic style but also weaves them together into a unified and harmonious aesthetic masterpiece. It becomes a living canvas that beautifully captures the essence of their love, illustrating the beauty that emerges when diverse elements come together in perfect harmony.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Ivy once envisioned love much like it is described in “Madame Bovary”: “Love should descend suddenly like lightning, with flashing lights and thunderous sounds, like a wild gust from beyond the ninth heaven, sweeping in, overturning lives, stirring souls, like autumn leaves whisked away by the wind, plunging the soul into the abyss.” However, Ryan guided her to solve mathematical problems, telling her that before loving others, one must first love oneself.

He guided her in transitioning from an idealized perception of love to the practical reality, helping her shed uncomfortable high heels for comfortable sneakers, taking off uneasy colored contacts and wearing framed glasses. This transformation shifted love from being passionate to becoming steadfast and enduring.[/field]

The dining experience commenced with a sophisticated Butternut Squash Soup featuring spiced chestnut cream and pumpkin seed oil. For the main course, guests had the option of Olive Oil Roasted Cod with confit young potatoes, clam chowder, herb pistou, Filet of Beef paired with fresh horseradish, potato puree, French beans, or Roasted Brussels Sprouts complemented by malted parsnip puree, red quinoa, and chamomile salsa verde.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]The floral arrangements for the ceremony showcase a variety of materials, merging elements such as mirrors resembling small ponds, wood, tree branches, and fruits. This harmonious combination produces a lush and textured natural garden scene, elevating the overall aesthetic of the ceremony.

In the floral design for the banquet, floral materials like lotus leaves and lotus pods, symbolizing Chinese aesthetics were used. The overall flower arrangement extends upward and gracefully spreads around, creating a natural and elegant atmosphere. Each floral arrangement in the banquet area is distinctive and one-of-a-kind, adding a unique touch to the overall ambiance.

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]At the sign-in table/welcome area, Chinese calligraphy brushes, ink stones, and black tea were set on a black wooden sign-in table. Behind the table, there is a hollowed-out rattan structure, and the red cloth with the characters “Double Happiness” hanging on the rattan frame adds many highlights to this corner.

As guests enter the banquet, they were greeted by a boat adorned with lush flowers, grass, and leaves—a symbol that love, like a ship anchored in the harbor, may need to weather storms and waves while always being prepared for the journey ahead. On the left side of the boat, stands a seating chart with Chinese elements, featuring two playful fish that also appear in the wedding invitation design, creating a cohesive and echoing design theme.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

The ceremony is arranged on Infinity Hill at Stanly Ranch, Auberge Resorts Collection, encircled by a colossal Mobius strip. The Mobius strip serves as a symbol of unity, signifying the profound connection between two individuals in love and embodying the ultimate union and fusion of their love.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]Even with heavy rain that day, it added a misty beauty to the on-site setup, and the final result amazed everyone! Everything was wonderfully harmonious – just as Ivy said: rain or shine, both are God’s blessings.[/field]

An Italian Reverie Inspired Shoot Done In Pantone’s Color Of The Year

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”The Inspiration”]

An Italian Reverie Imbued with inspiration born from Vizcaya Museum And Gardens‘ 18th-century Mediterranean-style Italian architecture, our wedding inspiration is as formal as the gardens in which it takes place and as steeped in romance as our couple’s deep and abiding love. A picturesque palette of soft coral and warm buttercream blends beautifully into the backdrop of this magnificent villa’s romantic gardens. Our paper suite and delicate plaster flourishes are reminiscent of the regal Renaissance and Baroque period architectural accents and busts that our couple discovers while wandering the gardens together after their first look. With a stately air and sheltered by palms, flowering plants, and delicate Spanish moss, our couple will take their vows on the steps of the open-air Casino. Surrounded by a lush floral garden blending seamlessly into the setting, they are framed by a sea of veiled chairs caressed by the wind, perfectly placed on the Garden Mound, ready to host their guests. Après ceremony and while strolling through the expansive parterres, the garden unfolds before them, and guests come upon escort cards tied delicately to a wrought-iron gate, ushering them toward their seats. Calling to mind the grand villas of the Riviera and fountains of Roma, our tablescape finds its place in the Fountain Garden, surrounded by statues and the worn façade of its stone walls. Grounded by regal linen and graced with delicate florals, our table melts into the magnificent landscape as if it has always been and always will be.

The wedding colors were cream, peach, buttercream, dove gray, and a hint of blue.

A Serene Monochromatic Wedding at Nizuc Resort and Spa

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]I chose white, monochromatic flowers to only heighten the atmosphere and make the scene more romantic but still just as serene. [/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]I was so excited to get married at Nizuc because I loved the stone terrace our ceremony took place on, and the beautiful water feature that would be the backdrop of our vows. There is a serenity to Nizuc’s architecture that, looking back, was perfectly complementary to the very profound sense of peace Kagen brought into my life. [/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]About two years after we started dating, Kagen and I took a trip to Santa Barbara. I love horseback riding whenever we go on a trip, so we spent one morning riding in the Santa Ynez mountains. When we got to the top of the ridge, we stopped to stretch our legs and Kagen said he wanted a picture of me looking out…when I turned back around he was on one knee. He proceeded to then make a very good case for our life together, so in spite of the fact that he chose to propose while I was wearing jeans and converse, I said yes![/field]

I went to what felt like a million bridal appointments and tried on more dresses than I could count. While there were so many beautiful gowns, none really took my breath away until I stepped into the all sequin dress by Berta. It was immediately “the one.” I loved that it was pure glamour from head to toe and while it was clearly a wedding dress, I had never seen anything like it. I also felt like all the sparkles screamed “party” and “fun,” which was perfect for big destination bash we were throwing.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]I loved not having a traditional arch but instead sculptural florals around us as we said our vows. I thought Ana, our florist, created such a striking and artful ceremony site and I was thrilled with how it came together.
When we greeted our guests for cocktail hour and I looked out over the dramatic long tablescape, I was truly floored to see my vision come to life. The design Emmily created was so perfectly executed, from the low florals that created a really beautiful sense of movement across the table to the beautiful napkins she brought in from Utah. Everything detail felt extremely polished, thoughtful, and artfully done.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]After dinner, we did a champagne tower, cake cutting, and then proceeded to dancing. [/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]My brother-in-law, Wyatt, married us and gave the most thoughtful, moving speech as our officiant that was incredibly personal. I can’t express enough how grateful I am to have been married by someone we deeply love, who knows us, and who put so much thought and care into making his remarks unique and special to us. Kagen and I read personal vows to each other, and I think we were both really blown away with how special it felt to follow up Wyatt’s remarks with thoughtful vows. If I have any advice to brides, it is to choose your officiant wisely and put a lot of effort into your vows. Both of those things made a hugely positive impact on our day.

After the ceremony, we had cocktails on Nizuc’s Terra Nostra deck, which overlooks a really beautiful lagoon and is just the most romantic, jaw-dropping view. When we greeted our guests for cocktail hour and I looked out over the dramatic long tablescape, I was truly floored to see my vision come to life. I was also blown away by Nizuc’s chef and wait staff, who served everyone an absolutely delicious and hot meal, with each course served all at once. The quality of the cocktail and food was mind-blowing.

During dinner, we had four speeches from our friends and each one was incredibly thoughtful and engaging. We were unbelievably moved. After dinner, we did a champagne tower, cake cutting, and then proceeded to dancing. One last minute add on we decided on was to have live dancers perform about an hour into the party. I can’t recommend enough having dancers or some form of live entertainment for guests when they aren’t expecting it. It really livens up the party and made everyone’s experience super engaging and memorable.

The last song of the night was “Mastermind” by Taylor Swift, and just as it began to play soft warm rain started falling. It was truly the most surreal, magical moment. All our friends were still on the dance floor and everyone danced in the rain together as the heavens and T Swift blessed our union. It was utterly divine and perfect.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]My biggest piece of advice for brides is to hire both a planner and a designer, and trust them and their guidance. There were so many pieces of advice that Anastasia and Emmily gave me as we planned the wedding together, and I really leaned on their expertise and was grateful to work with experts who could help me execute my vision but also guide me off the ledge of some of my (looking back) terrible ideas. ;)[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]In lieu of a traditional wedding brunch, we opted to have a pool party instead and this could not have been a better decision. We had the best time continuing the party the next day with a really upbeat pool party, and it ended the celebration on a super lively, fun note. We also had a live saxophonist accompany the DJ for an hour of the pool party, and this ended up being a major hit with our guests. I can’t recommend live entertainment enough as a surprise for guests; it keeps the energy up at each event and I think is a marginal investment in the wedding budget that provides really outsized returns in terms of guest experience.[/field]

Special Ways to Make Your Fam Feel the Love at Your Wedding

There are so many ways to make your wedding party feel appreciated and oh-so-adored throughout your engagement, into your wedding weekend, and long after (because, let’s be honest, you’ll totally live for all the occasions where you can send each of them a new favorite #BFFsontheBDE pic from your wedding). But what about the other very important people in your life? Your parents, grandparents, godparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. etc. Not every family member has to be in your official “I do” squad, and they certainly don’t want you to feel any pressure to include them, either! They’re just very excited to see you get engaged and — we’re sure — they just cannot wait for your wedding day.

So, we put together a few ideas for how to make your fam feel special on your big day — and even well before:

Deliver your nuptials news in a way that’s near and dear to their hearts.

We’ve cautioned this many times before, and we’re not changing our tune anytime soon. When you get engaged, don’t let extended family members and close friends find out through Facebook or through a very convoluted family phone chain. Instead, give them a quick call to fill them in or even send a brief, but thoughtful (and definitely direct, not via a group chat) text message that says “Yay!! So excited to tell you that I’m engaged. I can’t wait to go on this journey, and I hope you’ll be along for the ride!!”

Extend them an invite to all the pre-wedding parties.

Okay, so maybe not the bachelorette bash, if you know it’ll only make things awkward to have your grandma in attendance or you know your little cousin will be feeling ALL kinds of left out for Under 21 festivities. We’re talking about the engagement party, the wedding shower, the bridal luncheon (if you choose to have one), perhaps even the rehearsal dinner reception.

Ask for help or glean some guidance whenever possible.

There’s definitely a line, too, that family members, friends, even close colleagues won’t cross when they know you have a wedding party and fully respect that they’re not in it. No one wants to dole out unsolicited advice or overstep boundaries if they feel it’s not their place, but you could very well have VIPs who’d be a tremendous help in your wedding planning process or big day preparations themselves. So, our advice? Reach out, ask questions, commission your creative cohorts to flex their own talents (be it in calligraphy, floral arranging, musicality, epicurean pursuits, etc.). Not even kidding, they’ll feel so touched that you thought of them and wanted them to play a role in your perfect day.

If your love language is gift giving, you can have a lot of fun with personalized gifts over the duration of your engagement OR curate personal and intentional moments during your wedding day itself. When your guests, the family and friends who might not be in your wedding party, but who you still consider true MVPs, see that you’ve gone above and beyond to let them know you care, they’ll get so many feels (plus, they might just walk away with a memento/takeaway that’s a smidge better than the one the rest of your guests will get… #sorrynotsorry 😉).

Tweak these tips as you see fit!

  • Swap special glass bud vase place card holders (for the closer crew) in for traditional cards at your escort card display
  • Dazzle your grandparents’ tables with photo albums featuring hand-picked photos of you and your family members all laid at your matriarch or patriarch’s plates
  • And let’s not forget our fur fam! They might not be wearing chiffon dresses or studly suits, but your four-legged ride or dies will surely stand out with pet wreathes or pet bowties

It’s YOUR day, of course, but you can still show your favorites (fam and friends) some love that they’ll hold onto for the long haul!

NFL Defensive End & Notre Dame Volleyball Alum Tie the Knot at Notre Dame Stadium

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

Madeline Plumlee and Dean Lowry wanted to showcase the elevated, timeless and traditional space while also incorporating elements of natural beauty, light and romance in a way that felt authentic to them. The couple and their ideal celebration were described with words like “traditional, authentic, light, timeless, thoughtful, intimate, classic, elevated, fun, inviting, romantic, flower heavy, nods to sports, touch of Old World, and natural beauty and flow.” To bring the details to life, we decided on a mid-summer color palette that highlighted the bride’s natural draw toward soft hues of French Blue and a subtle Lilac while mixing with neutral tones and a classic gold that brought further lightness that tied well to the venue and its surroundings. It was important for them to keep in line with a chic and classic aesthetic while adding both personal touches and pops of colorful patterns in their branding and custom monogram, gifts, and guest experience.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

We had so much fun weaving this color palette consistently in each of the event details. The stunning invitation and day of paper goods and signage by Ciarra Claire Fine Art were a truly personal touch, combining hand calligraphy, embellishments, and overall branding that gave a nod to the inspiration found in the locations and the thoughtful luxury of the entire experience. At each place setting, every guest received a unique menu, personal place card, custom bonbons in a shamrock dish, and a monogrammed handkerchief, all of which was assembled together with color, texture and floral garden details. The texture and color in the specialty linens and mise en place pairings brought a true nod to the timeless yet elegant look of the couple’s iconic look. These beautifully captured moments on film by Clary Pfeiffer Photography detail the thoughtfulness of Madeline and Dean’s celebration from beginning to end. The aesthetic beauty was only heightened by the intimate moments between them and the intentional touches added for themselves and their loved ones. We hope this day inspires a timeless yet highly thoughtful and fun approach to luxury celebrations.

Madeline and Dean knew without a doubt that the University of Notre Dame was the perfect spot for their summer wedding. One of the most special parts of the celebration planning process is connecting to the place in which you celebrate, and Madeline and Dean found their “spot” on the beautiful university campus in the heart of the Midwest, not far from either of their immediate families in Illinois and Indiana. Not only is Notre Dame Madeline’s alma mater, but the Basilica and the ballroom at the football stadium are both special places that incorporated Dean’s Irish Catholic family and added just enough athletics for the NFL defensive end and Madeline’s volleyball history. With athletics being such a deeply rooted part of the couple’s life and families, every detail of the space felt like a natural tie to who they are and where they’re headed. We also wanted to ensure that we captured the overall experience of the day both from the couple’s and their guests’ standpoints. This is one of my top priorities as a planner and designer – to work alongside the incredible professional team to provide couples with not only a stunning space, but the ability to cherish the beauty of the moments together both alone and with their guests. From quiet moments at the grotto to the bagpipes leading the way between the iconic Basilica and football stadium, live music, and delicious food – there truly was not a detail spared that the couple hadn’t thought of tailoring to this incredible experience.

Eclectic Textures and Adventurous Colors at McAlister Leftwich House

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Katie and Brad share a love of unexpected pairings of bold, adventurous color, and the palette is a reflection of their sensibilities through and through. We leaned into a spectrum of color including orange, reds, pinks, and also utilized rich green. To balance all of the bright colors, we also used some classic black and white in thoughtful ways. [/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]When Katie and Brad first approached us about planning and designing their wedding, we immediately bonded over Katie’s mood board she had prepared. It was full of bright colors, rich and moody candlelit motifs, and eclectic pairings of textures and shapes. It was the very best kind of design challenge and our mission was to bring her vision to life in a way that was elegant, refined, and still every bit as bold and unexpected as the mood board she presented at the outset. Katie is an avid gardeners, so fresh flowers were incredibly important and we had such fun finding ways to incorporate some of her favorite blooms in unexpected ways. [/field]

[field title=”Food & Drink”]In planning an intentionally intimate wedding with under 40 guests, the cadence and sophistication of the dinner party were of the utmost importance. Guests enjoyed a beautiful five-course plated meal that included an appetizer trio of salmon tartare cucumber slice topped with balsamic caviar, petite prosciutto chicken roulade with honey belle chevre and fig jam, mushroom and gruyere tartlet with balsamic glaze, followed by a second course of arugula and spinach salad, a third course with sesame crusted tuna, followed by herb crusted beef tenderloin, and a dessert course of wedding cake. The meal was decadent, and wonderfully paced to incorporate ample time for conversation, laughter, toasting, and set to the ambiance of candlelight and live jazz music.
[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]If there is one word we would use to describe the overall approach to decor it would be: crescendo! Upon arrival, guests were seated for the ceremony where gold urns with white hydrangea and dogwood branches flanked the ‘altar’ space. Katie carried a bouquet of delicate feverfew daisies, and her bridesmaid carried a simple bouquet of white lilac.

After cocktail hour, everyone transitioned down a hallway to dinner in which they witnessed the full color palette develop and take shape through an ombre progression of color. The hallway was lined with thousands of carnation stems, arranged from lighter champagne and blush hues to resplendent pinks, reds, and wine tones before the hallway opened up into the dinner room where all of the colors sang together in an elegant candlelit display of dinner tables.

Katie shared with us that in her own home, she loves to arrange flowers by single floral type in each vase, so we adopted the same approach, filling the table centers with clusters of flowers arranged by type and color. Floral elements included everything from peonies to tulips, hellebores, garden roses, ranunculus, stock, and sweet peas.

In addition to the traditional dinner centerpieces and expected arrangements, guests enjoyed a few surprises to delight the senses, including edible pansy garnishes in tray-passed champagne, and a colorful explosion of floral elements to highlight the cake display. [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]The wonderfully talented team at local bakery, Louie and Honey’s Kitchen, created a small cake adorned with edible pansies that made for the perfect addition to the reception space. Two cake flavors were offered to guests, including brown sugar cake with salted caramel buttercream and blackberry lemon cake with muscovado buttercream.[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”][/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Instead of a traditional guest book, Katie surprised Brad with a vinyl record of favorite songs, and guests were encouraged to sign the jacket. It was such a fitting surprise for a groom who loves music and has an extensive collection of vinyl. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]The artwork on the stationery suite served to give guests a taste of what they would experience at the wedding. It was a joy to incorporate two of Katie’s favorite flowers – daisies and pansies – via original watercolor artwork. A silk black ribbon tied the invitation components together with a tag to denote the attire would be black tie. [/field]

Quiet Luxury at Villa Corsini a Mezzomonte With “Dolce Vita” Style

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

The couple allowed the venue’s inherent elegance to stand out without the need for logos or excessive decorations. They decided against using flowers in many areas, opting instead to adorn dining tables and hallways with thousands of candles. Choosing long, rectangular tables over round ones added a regal touch to the gallery’s aesthetic. While flowers graced the backdrop of the ceremony, the couple chose to forgo the traditional arch. Recognizing the venue’s natural vibrancy and beauty, their approach aimed to subtly enhance rather than overpower it with excessive decor.

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Glam, Classic, The true ‘’Dolce Vita’’ by Fellini style. Bathed in the soft, golden embrace of the Tuscan sun, Ariella and Matthew’s luxury wedding at Villa Corsini a Mezzomonte unfolded like a radiant symphony of love on the summer solstice. Just as the longest day of the year bestowed its luminous grace, the couple’s choice of a thousand candles cast a warm, enchanting glow, symbolizing their enduring love, ignited on this very day.

The selected menu embraced the essence of Italian cuisine, featuring multiple courses as a tribute to Tuscany. The inclusion of Chianti wine added a touch of authenticity, transforming the dining experience into a poetic celebration of the genuine Tuscan dolce vita.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Ceremony:
Their luxury celebration unfolded amidst the enchanting Italian Renaissance gardens of Villa Corsini in Mezzomonte, where meticulously manicured hedges framed breathtaking vistas of rolling hills adorned with vineyards. Ethereal white flowers and lush greenery were chosen to accentuate the understated elegance of the luxurious villa garden. The decorations, akin to a flowing ribbon, framed the magnificent view of the Chianti Classico hills.

Dinner:

In a departure from tradition, Ariella and Matthew chose to forgo the customary floral embellishments, opting instead to bathe their two long dining tables in the warm, mesmerizing glow of a thousand candles. This decision allowed the room to come alive with a soft, intimate luminosity, allowing the Tuscan hills outside to paint a breathtaking panorama through the gallery’s windows. In that moment, their vision and dream materialized into a reality as exquisite as the love they shared. [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

Underneath the starlit sky in the garden, a grand and round mille-feuille cake, adorned with luscious red strawberries, took center stage. Following this sweet moment, a mesmerizing fireworks display painted the night sky. The villa itself seemed enchanted by the aura of a profound love story.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]The vibrant tunes of the award-winning Aston band, a global ensemble of sonic artists, set the stage for an unforgettable party, infusing the atmosphere with infectious energy throughout the celebration.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

Our Favorite Moment – The sight of walking into the dining gallery, all of our friends and family standing up smiling and cheering was the best moment of our lives. The gallery has Italian frescos covering the walls and ceilings, and we opted to skip flowers and instead decorate our two long dining tables with 1,000 candles to let the room and view of the Tuscan hills shine. It truly was our vision and dream to come to life.

A Fresh Mountain Aesthetic Featuring 2024’s Pantone Color of the Year

The wedding day was as equally emotional as it was impeccably curated, with design choices inspired to create a playful, modern, and fresh mountain aesthetic. The vision for the day was to achieve a romantic, soft, and whimsical vibe – keeping fun, joy, and warmth as the guiding energy of the party. It was important for the ceremony to be deeply personal, intimate, and of the times. A dear friend of the couple officiated and centered the ceremony around love and cherishing those around us.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”] On their five-year anniversary and a frigid Boston day, the bride and groom went to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, where the groom proposed in front of the stunning and iconic courtyard. Afterward, the bride was surprised first by a celebration with both of their families and then by a surprise party with dozens of their closest friends from around the country for a truly unforgettable weekend overflowing with love and joy.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Alongside the brilliant team with The Perfect Petal and Knapp Design Co., we created a color story pairing both pastels and bolder brights to amplify the mountaintop beauty of Vail Village. Bundling wildflowers alongside cosmos and garden roses, pops of light pinks and soft yellows created the chicest garden party vibe that further complimented (and amplified) colorful guest fashion selections. Subtle floral notes continued through hand-painted floral menus paired alongside a fresh light green napkin, dried flower frames that doubled as a guest seat selection, and take-home favors. From The Perfect Petal regarding color palette: “We’ll dive into a wide palette of pastel colors with some pops of brighter colors thrown in. With a variety of different florals, we will achieve amazing texture and a good balance between a natural and modern feel.”

Equally drawn to meaningful moments of music that defined their partnership, sweet lyrical lines like “Your Magic Does Something to Me” (Band is Head and the Heart and song is See You Through My Eyes if you want to credit!) were thoughtfully shared on welcome signage and guest favors, giving a heartwarming peek into their love language. The couple’s first dance was to “Missing Piece” by Vance Joy – a selection that felt fateful when he opened with the song during the concert they attended just a few months before the wedding.

Being in the mountains is the couple’s happy place, so they chose to exchange private vows at the top of Vail mountain before the ceremony in town.
