Elegant Sea-Inspired Wedding Inspiration

Inspired by the colors of the sea, these pics by Ingrid Lepan, captured at her French Riviera workshop, have me eager to book my own getaway to this magical coast. But in order to recreate this ethereal beauty, I’m going to need to wrangle up the talented team of Les Ciseaux De Marie, Nice Plume, Wanderlust Wedding and D’amour Et De Deco, so until I’m able to arrange all that, I’m satisfied to sit tight in this Vault gallery – and may just be watching Pocket-Film’s clip on repeat. Join me this way!

Colors

From Ingrid LepanI asked Vanessa from D’amour et De Déco, for my professional photography workshop, for elegant and refined decoration, that would come close to the colours of the sea, that is why we have a declination of different blues. A harmonious and aerial unity, with the choice of a fluid dress, always keeping in vision this gentleness. Beaulieu was chosen because it is a small town barely known but perfectly represents the French Riviera.

Our next workshop will be announced April 25, 26 and 27, 2016, and more information can be found here!

Tour the Modern Meets Glam Tribeca Home of a Fashion Blogger

Starting with a modern space and a love for classic and glam touches, Arielle of Something Navy teamed up with Joss & Main for a decorating extravaganza in her new Tribeca digs. It’s a mix of cozy neutrals, girly glamour and a shoe wall that just might stop your heart. See it all captured by Laura Moss in the VAULT and be sure to check out Something Navy’s sale on Joss & Main happening now!

The Joss & Main team had the pleasure of working with blogger Arielle Charnas of Something Navy on her new Tribeca home, where she lives with her husband Brandon, her dog Dylan, and her soon-to-be baby girl! Our style squad took over her apartment on day this winter, and gave each room a makeover with items that Arielle had hand-picked from Joss & Main. From the beginning, Arielle was true to her modern meets glam sense of style, but also tried to incorporate functional pieces that would work for her growing family.

How would you describe the style of your home?

Minimalist modern with classic undertones (to exude comfort and cozy!)

Where is your home located and how has that influenced its design?

Tribeca which has influenced it greatly. The building itself is brand new which is the modern aspect and all around it, still stands these beautiful architectural buildings that tie in a few statement vintage pieces around my home.

I love your use of textures in the living room. How did you go about choosing and pairing them together?

I love furry textures since they really soften up a room and they’re perfect for adding that homey-finishing touch.

Which is your favorite room in the house and why?

I love my bedroom — it’s all white, super clean, and just my place of zen.

Tell me a bit about your home office. How does it inspire you? What do you use it for most?

I wanted the office to be chic, yet girly at the same time. I need to feel inspired in there every day so it had to be my happy place where I could be comfortable and have creative ideas flowing. I love the view outside my window that reminds me everyday that I live in the most amazing city! Every morning I go to my office to check emails and do my day to day on my tufted pink chair!

That shoe storage system is beautiful. Tell me a little more about it. Where in the house is it located?

My shoes to me are like art and I wanted them to be presented in that form. My shoes are all in my office — I guess this makes it somewhat of a closet-office space then!

Bel-Air Ballroom Wedding with Shades of Green

I’m deeming this the ultimate cool girl wedding. Set at the Bel-Air Bay Club with portraits among the palm trees, it’s no surprise when the Bride works as a buyer for Urban Outfitters. She and her beau pulled off a celebration starting with a traditional Jewish ceremony and ending with a lush, greenery-covered reception designed by The Little Branch, plus The Butter End Cakery behind their pretty on-theme dessert. Head to the gallery from lots more captured by Paige Jones.

From The Bride… Joseph and I have known each other since high school running in the same Jewish kids from LA circle. Years later we reconnected while at a party in NY. A friend of ours suggested us to chat and well before you knew it were we dating long distance! I was living in LA and he was in Philly at med school. He was the nerdy doctor I had always been waiting for!

After three years of dating long distance, I decided to move to Philadelphia as a buyer for Urban Outfitters and finally live in the same city as my boyfriend! On a visit home in L.A. for my birthday, Joseph decided to take me on a picnic at one of my favorite spots, Will Rogers State Park. It was quite the picnic, he went all out and to me I was thinking this it was my birthday present. He got food from Huckleberry, was playing Ella Fitzgerald, got chocolates from my favorite Edelweiss and cookies from Tates the cutest picnic basket, you name it he did it! While enjoying the picnic he starts retelling our love story, and I was like what is going on and before I could blink he was on one knee! I didn’t even look at the ring I went straight in for the “YES YES YES” and big kiss. He right away said, “Aren’t you going to look at the ring?” Next, he surprised me with both of our families at the other side of the park, it was the best day ever. Since he proposed to me on my birthday we thought it would only be fitting to get married on Joseph’s birthday.

We both love being around our families and one of my favorite days of the week is Sunday family dinners at home. We wanted our big day to feel like that, but with 150 of our closest friends and family! The Bel-Air Bay Club in Pacific Palisades where my parents live was the perfect setting. On our walk through of the property we fell in love with the grand living room fitted with gorgeous exposed wood beams and decided that’s where we needed to have our party. So, we ditched the traditional ballroom route and opted for a cozy Sunday dinner party type of wedding! We said our “I do’s” at magic hour and well you guessed it, it was absolute magic! Who knew we would get a 78 degree day in November!

We wanted a traditional Jewish wedding under a simple Chuppah adorned with greens that looked as if they were naturally grown. We wanted our ceremony to feel like you were in someones backyard, with a killer view of the ocean, so we kept the aisle simple with lush ferns. I walked down the aisle with a very modest bouquet of astilbe, because I really wanted our loved ones to look at the huge smile on my face rather than the crazy bouquet I was holding!

Joseph and I are self proclaimed foodies, the majority of our best dates involve eating and cooking at home. We thought this should be the tone for our wedding, farm to table! Our theme was a touch of laid back elegance, Provencal garden details, and timeless touches with personality. I did not want to be a bride who selects everything from a book, we had our “stamp” on pretty much every detail of the day! We thought the whole point of having a wedding is to showcase our personalities with the people who mean the most to us! We wanted to make sure that we had a seasonal touch to every detail. Being that our wedding was in late fall, we played on squash, lots of earthy green herbs like mint, thyme and rosemary, and kept the whole look very natural and warm feeling. There were no high pedestal arrangements and chiavari chairs at this party!

Keeping with that theme, our color palette was ivory, vintage brass hints that you would find in the vessels that held our gorgeous florals, and well our star…emerald! We might have gone overboard with greens throughout the wedding, but we didn’t care! I guess we were green with envy over how chic and timeless emerald is! We featured this stunning shade through out our invitation suite, our custom cocktail napkins, and well my jewelry of course!

We wanted the flowers to look lush and overgrown and have a perfectly imperfect look to them. When we met with our florist Meg from The Little Branch, I said to her, “I am obsessed with Ina Garten from Barefoot Contessa and she always says that flowers should look like they were picked straight from the garden” and well that’s what they looked like! I especially loved how she incorporated all of the herbs which was so farm to table! The rosemary in our olive oil dishes was such a great touch! Our tables were set with beautiful vintage sterling silver flatware, vintage pressed glass stemware, Russell Wright granite dinnerware, and La Tavola grey linens.

I wanted to get ready at home with my mom and sister, it just felt more chill. It was pretty cute catching my dad sneaking a glance at us getting our make up done, he seemed to light up when he saw all of his girls together! Getting ready in some of my favorite rooms of our house just made the whole experience so much more intimate for me. I wanted to feel like me on the big day and not look like I was wearing tons of makeup and wearing an up do, its so not me! I am such a jeans and tee type of person, I would just look weird! I enlisted Patrick Ta to do my makeup, he is a wizard at natural glam.

My makeup was me but with the volume turned up and a few lashes of course. We kept my hair soft and feminine. I wanted to have a side part so I could show of the beautiful emerald earrings I was wearing. My dress was from a designer I actually had never heard of, Austin Scarlett. It was as if the dress chose me, no joke the first dress I tried on at Saks in Beverly Hills. I had a clear vision of wearing a crepe silk dress with no frills, I always referred to Caroline Bessette Kennedy!

You hear of “something borrowed” as one of the musts for a bride, I think I took that to the extreme. So much of what I wore was borrowed. The most special of which was my mom’s Jimmy Choo snake skin heels that she wore when she married my dad. I got to walk in the shoes she did when she decided to spend the rest of her life with the man of her dreams. Every time we talk about how I did, she starts balling…it’s kinda funny! My veil was my best friends and my jewelry was my matron of honor’s who is also my aunt! She ended up gifting me one of the tennis bracelets who originally belonged to my grandmother.

Advice for other brides is borrowing is better! Don’t limit yourself to borrowing one thing just to stick to tradition. There is no need to go out and buy everything new, if someone in your circle has something you need and it fits your style go for it. Don’t sweat the small stuff, I could have easily drove myself crazy worrying about every little detail being that both Joseph and I are OCD, but we just let our fabulous planner Samantha Scott take the reigns and it was perfection!

From The Bride…Dan and I met through mutual friends in college. He asked for my number and I said no, twice, but the third request was the charm. Luckily, the proposal went more smoothly!

When Dan and I decided to get married, we knew that we wanted our wedding to be something unique; Dan prefers it when things are a bit “outside the box”, while I am inclined toward a slightly more classic approach. Although we live on the Lower East Side, we both grew up outside of the City and wanted to get married in the Hudson River Valley, giving our guests the feeling of a true countryside getaway without having to travel too far.

We fell in love with the first barn we saw; it was a completely blank space in the middle of a hayfield and we loved the idea of being able to make it our own. With the help of La Maison Fête, Matthew Robbins and lots and lots of chandeliers, we were able to transform the barn into our dream space. We wanted to amp up the glam while never losing the rustic charm of the barn. The romantic softness of candles and light furniture contrasted perfectly with the stone walls and the rough hewn beams of the barn. We were able to choose every last detail from the lighting, the chairs, to the silverware, and even the “Luxury Loos”. Based upon our guests’ enthusiasm, every last detail was noticed and appreciated.

Classic Adelaide Wedding with a Modern Twist

Classic with a perfect modern twist, this Gallery On Waymouth wedding captured by Evan Bailey is like taking a peak into this gorgeous couples’ personality. And from the looks of this gallery, I think we could be besties. It was a day full of meaningful details and topped off with a delicious cake made of cheese (see? we’d best friends), and there is even more waiting for you in the VAULT.

From The Bride…When planning our wedding day, we envisioned something that was modern, simple and a great party with family and friends.

With a church ceremony at Sacred Heart College Senior where we first met followed by a reception at an art gallery in the heart of the Adelaide CBD, it allowed us to be creative and place our own special stamp on the big day. Black and white with bold splashes of colour helped us capture that vision and make our wedding classic with a modern twist.

The boys looked great in their black suits from Peter Jackson and the ladies pulled off a mix of white fitted cocktail dresses from Fashion Bunker. This was the perfect pairing with bright pink, dark burgundy flowers that were free structured and modern.

The team at Karen Willis Holmes on High Street Armadale delivered a beautifully detailed strapless sequin covered gown with an accompanying belt.

Our reception was simple as the room at Gallery on Waymouth spoke for itself. The exposed white stone walls against the hardwood floors and vibrant artwork was a beautiful setting for a cocktail reception. We had grouped floral arrangements on the sit down and cocktail tables with the flower wall as our feature. Illume Flowers created a stunning 2m x 2m wall of greenery and dark burgundy flowers to be our backdrop for the wedding cake and dessert table. This was by far the favourite detail to our wedding.

Being obsessed with cheese, we had a cake of exquisite cheeses from Udder Delights in Hahndorf who layered vintage cheddar, creamy brie and a French blue. To accompany the savoury cake, we had an assortment of individual tarts from Swedish tarts based at Henley Beach. DIY was at the forefront of our minds, so much of decorations were done ourselves. We made our own signage for the reception, gift tags for our wedding favours and cards for special comments and well wishes to the newly married couple.

As a parting gift, we offered Yalumba Y-Series piccolo wine bottles to guests as our wedding favour. I once dreamed of having a winery wedding, so this was my little way of bringing the winery to me. Our wedding truly was one large party… Saying ‘I do’ at the alter to hitting the dance floor with our friends made for every special moment to when we became Mr and Mrs Juniper.

As for advice…Be as organized as possible leading up to the wedding. It will allow you to relax that little bit more and enjoy your day! No regrets!

From The Bride… This day exceeded my expectations. It was easily one of the best days of our lives. She captured the image I had always imagined for my special day. I wanted a very organic and elegant feel. At first it sounded strange to achieve, although she put it all together perfectly. Our day was extremely elegant with the black and white design and the black chandeliers but also very organic and natural with the farm tables and greenery. My favorite part of the whole design was all of the greenery and candles everywhere. The candles brought a calm elegance to the atmosphere, which I absolutely loved. All in all the design she and all of the vendors who contributed provided for an unbelievable experience that my husband and I will never forget. Special thanks to Mariel Hannah and Patrick Ang for capturing all the beautiful moments that we will cherish forever.

5 Tips To Making Your Falsies Look Au-So-Naturale

The first few times I wore false eyelashes I wanted to rip them off within the first hour of wearing them. They felt big and clunky and were way too dramatic for my face. Ever been there? Well, beauties, if you’re going for a more natural look (a.k.a. you just want a little extra va va voom) try these quick steps!

Choose the correct lashes for your eye shape. Check out this guide to find your shape.

Curl your false lashes gently before you apply. This will allow them to blend more naturally with your own lashes.

Consider using single falsies instead of strips. Use tweezers to apply single lashes where needed, along your lash line rather than your eyelid or skin. This will help prevent that fake straight lash line look!

Cut your lashes down to a bit longer than your natural lash length if your falsies are super long.

Apply a few coats of mascara after you’ve applied your falsies. This will help blend and lift with your real lashes.

Horse Stable Engagement with an Equestrian Love Story

I’ve always been a sucker for a good love story, and this one is the real-deal. It’s what happens when two horse lovers get set up by the Groom-to-be’s brother, lock eyes for the first time, and the rest is history. Of course, if only felt fitting to plan a horse stable engagement session, and the ever-talented KT Merry told the story through her lens. Read below for more on this couple’s chance meeting, and find every image inside The Vault.

From KT Merry PhotographyRenessa and Kris live on a picturesque farm in Bradenton, Florida where they share their love for horses together running a show jumping barn. When discussing their engagement session one of their top priorities was to have the images truly represent ‘them’. It seemed clear that photographing them on their farm where they started their life together and with all the animals (dogs and goats included!) they love was a must. Being an animal lover and equestrian myself I am always inspired to share a couple’s story and their love of animals. Their session was truly unique to them and such a joy to create! I can’t wait for their wedding celebrations on Valentine’s Day at Ca’ d’Zan in Sarasota, Florida!

Kris and Renessa’s story may seem like a fairytale, and it is. Renessa, a lover of horses, from a very young age always dreamt of riding. At the age of 28, she decided to fulfilled her life long dream and take up the hobby of horseback riding. She stumbled upon a stable located in her town of Naples, FL owned by Steve Di Carlo.

Renessa would spend weekends going to horse shows with Steve, and soon learned that he had a twin brother, Kris who is also a professional rider and horse trainer. One weekend, at a horse show in Wellington Steve received a call from his brother Kris asking him to purchase a new bridle for his new Grand Prix horse while Steve was in Wellington. Together, Steve and Renessa ventured to a local tack shop in search for the perfect bridle. While searching through hundreds of bridles, Steve decided to announce to the tack shop, “We are purchasing the bridle for the horse of her FUTURE husband.” Embarrassed, yet intrigued, Renessa giggled. It was clear that Steve had a plan and was going to play Cupid. When the weekend came to a close, Steve left the bridle in Renesa’s car in hoping that this would be what would bring Kris and Renessa together.

On the way home Steve called Renessa and informed her that she was invited to dinner as his home and that Kris would be there. She immediately was nervous. As dinner time rolled around Renessa jumped in her car and drove to Steve’s house with the bridle in tow. As she walked into the door, Kris and Renessa locked eyes and the rest was history. Ten months later they were engaged to be married, living on a 10 acre horse training facility in Bradenton, FL.

The Easiest 5 Second Hairstyle

As a mom I know all to well the necessity of quick hair. But mere seconds? Yeah that’s speaking my short on time love language. And pretty sure an uber quick yet totally chic hairstyle is universal; kids or not. See how Brittany Messner of Life, Set Sail makes five seconds look insanely fab with this half up style captured by Justine Milton.

We recently took these photos for our local gal, Lindsay, of Cinder & Sage who needed some visual aids for showing her customers how to use her hair combs…what an odd thing I thought. I never imagined that someone wouldn’t know how to use a hair comb, but unless you are a vintage lover or have ever fastened a bridal headpiece, sure, you probably don’t know.

So on the off chance that you fit into the latter group, let me rock your world!

Apply a texturizing spray (optional)

Tightly hold down the section of hair you want secured

Push the comb back in the opposite direction of your hair (but at the same angle)

That’s literally all! You can pull out a few pieces to soften the look, but chances are it already looks fantastic.

My one tip is that you should have some sort of hair product in your hair, like texturing spray, to give it more grip (though totally not necessary). If you have fine hair, sometimes it’s a bit hard to keep things from sliding out of your hair unless there’s product in it already.

If you want to fashion your comb in the back of your head like in the first photo, just take two small sections from either side of your head and push the comb up into the hair.

And there you have it, a five second hairstyle that looks like it took way longer to achieve! You’re welcome.

That’s where A Vintage Affair Events & Rentals comes in—they have all the tips to get picture-perfect wedding photos. And if you need proof, just look at this gorgeous inspiration session from Callie Hobbs PhotographyBella Lu Floral and Plum Pretty Sugar in The Vault!

A Vintage Affair Events & Rentals‘ Tips for Incredible Detail Shots

Pick a getting ready location with good light, especially if your photographer uses film. We all know that the sunlight is the best form of flattery in pictures – when done right ;) And who’s going to get that better than your photographer? So don’t be shy, embrace that light! If your photographer uses film, it’s a huge help to them, as their photos will come out even better. If the room is too dark, the focus could be off and skin tones will tend to look muddy and dark instead of radiant and flawless. Digital cameras also appreciate lots of light as it too will present a softer more flattering photo!

Have a pretty bridal hanger at the ready! As well as bridesmaids and if needed groom and groomsmen hangers. This is a simple detail that so many people don’t even think about. When it comes time for the photographer to shoot the bride’s dress, the bridesmaids’ dresses or even the groom and groomsmen attire they need to hang it on a hanger (no brainer!). But if that hanger is just one of your hundred plastic hangers – or the flimsy metal hangers you get from the dry cleaner’s – then all the attention goes to it instead of the gorgeous clothes! Ok, maybe not all the attention, but it does certainly take away from the beauty and elegance of the picture. Depending on the theme/feeling of your wedding there are quite a few options to choose from. Some of our favorites include these vintage inspired beauties from Anthropologie’s BHLDN line, or the popular calligraphy elegant hangers with your name written out in the metal like this one. But, before you buy a hanger make sure to ask your planner or photographer if they don’t already have one on hand, because chances are they may have already thought about this.

Another detail that’s often neglected is getting shots of what you’ll be wearing on the big day. This not only includes your dress, but your shoes (are there multiple?), your veil, your bouquet, accessories and of course the ring! Photographers and stylists love coming up with the best ways to show off all these details in pictures. And as a word of advice let your dress out of the bag right when you arrive to get ready so it has time to breathe.

Guys, don’t think you’ve been left out the photographer wants to shoot your details too! Cuff links, boutonnieres, vow book, shoes, watch…all the goods! So before you see your photographer that day, put all these items in a convenient little bag so that when you do see her or him you can just hand that off and they can be on their merry way enjoying photographing the finer details of the day.

Now I might need a whole section just on the invites! Let me start with simply leave time for your photographer to take pictures of them (meaning make sure you have an extra on hand)! You paid to have them made up, printed, maybe even done in calligraphy. They are your fist creative outlet, the first glimpse your guests have into the magnificence that is your wedding. It’s only right to get a lasting memory of them. Also, don’t forget about those other stationery items (programs, table numbers, escort cards). An additional way you can spice up your invite stylings is vintage stamps. Who knows, the stamps you used to send out your invites could be beautiful (if that’s the case use them!), but chances are they could also just be the standard Forever stamp or something similar. Vintage stamps add a certain je ne sais quoi to your photos. There’s a dash of elegance, a sprinkle of delicacy, and a hint of timeless romance to complete the everlasting memory of your stationery. Did I mention you can also find just the right stamps to go with your color theme?! You can find vintage stamps at many of your local vintage and antique stores. Now this next invite styling tip goes a little above and beyond, but can really add some flair to your invitations. If you didn’t get them done in calligraphy for your guests, you can get one set done for yourselves. Adding calligraphy to the envelope is a sweet and nice touch to add to the timelessness of the images. These last few elements may seem to come off as silly or unnecessary, but they add so much more thought into the artwork of the photos. And when you look back at them over the years, you’ll truly appreciate the smaller details that will bring your wedding photos to life as you relive your special day!

Wear a cute robe before you put on that oh so special dress. There are a few reasons why you may want to wear a pretty robe or something special while you are getting ready. One of them is the fact that many times you’re getting photos taken while you’re getting ready. It’s fun to look back at those photos and not think “man I wish I would have worn something cuter.” You don’t have to worry about dressing up for those photos, you just get out of bed and pop on a robe and voila! you’re already picture perfect for those photos. Even if you don’t have your photographer taking the pictures of you getting ready you can still don the robe. I know that when I’m dressed a little nicer than just sweats and a shirt I feel prettier. I don’t mean putting on makeup or doing my hair, but just having something other than my frumpy pj’s on helps me perk up and feel incredible like I’m ready to take on the day. It’s your wedding day! You deserve to feel pampered and relaxed while not caring or worrying about what your outfit looks like. With a robe (or even cute PJ’s) it’s cute yet easy.

Have your florist bring her favorite centerpiece to photograph during this time. We love seeing the centerpiece photographed by itself so you can really focus on the flowers. It helps bring the centerpiece to life. When it’s mixed in with everything else, it’s still beautiful, but by itself it’s able to stand out. It’s also hard to appreciate all the flowers that aren’t a bouquet or boutonniere on your wedding day because you’re so caught up in the day (and you should be!). This way you’ll be able to look back on the photo of the centerpiece and truly treasure how beautiful it is!

You guys, I can’t – This engagement session is just TOO cute, I mean will you just look at those pups! Giving true meaning to the term puppy love, Alex & Jake planned the ultimate engagement session complete with a lighthouse backdrop that’ll have you mesmerized. It’s the sweetest lil’ session we ever did see and thanks to Blue Rose Photography we’ve got it all to share in The Vault!

From Blue Rose Photography Alex & Jake met us on a beautiful fall day down in Gig Harbor Wa. They grew up in that area together and it had special meaning to them. We found a cute little lighthouse on a private peninsula and walked around playing on the beach with their two adorable dogs. I really loved the outfits they picked out for their shoot and so I know their wedding will be stylish and beautiful as well. Cant wait for their August 2016 wedding!

Classic + Elegant Black-Tie D.C. Wedding

With Grace Kelly as an inspiration, it should come as no shocker that this Washington D.C. museum wedding is the picture of classic elegance. A timeless color palette of whites, creams, golds and silvers set the National Museum Of Women in the Arts aglow, setting the stage for these high school sweethearts’ big day nine years in the making. See every special moment captured by The Youngrens in The Vault!

From The Bride…We first met in high school. While it may not have been love at first sight (Sam can thank his mullet for that), we grew to become best friends and by the last semester of our senior year, began dating. We were a long-distance couple during college, frequently visiting each other in Chicago and North Carolina, and after graduation, settled back in our hometown of DC.

After dating 9 years, it was not too much of a surprise that Sam would propose; it was just a question of when and how. I was at the beach in Delaware with my family for the week. After arranging the details with my family, Sam drove up midweek and surprised me on the beach as my family walked back from dinner at their favorite BBQ joint. When Sam got down on one knee to propose, there may or may not have been some barbeque sauce still left on my cheek (and ring finger)!

Since we are DC natives, we knew we wanted to get married downtown at a venue that captured the culture and character of the city. Sam’s mother and I had both discussed how beautiful the National Museum of Women in the Arts would be for a wedding venue, and, according to Sam, that made it a done deal.

We envisioned a timeless elegance for the look of the wedding, which is why the colors of the wedding were very neutral- different shades of whites and creams with golds and silvers. I wanted a classic look (with Grace Kelly as an inspiration) but with a modern twist, so I chose a very light blush wedding gown. The museum was so beautiful in and of itself, we wanted the flowers and decor to accentuate that beauty, not distract from it.

Incorporating family and our two religious traditions into our ceremony was very important to us. The ceremony was co-officiated by our cousin alongside our family friend and reverend. We were married under a chuppah that Sam’s mom hand-sewed to include silkscreened photos of our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents on their wedding days. After the cocktail hour in the museum galleries, guests were seated at dinner tables named after our favorite restaurants that had been influential in our 9+ years as a couple (and yes, the head table was “Five Guys” – scene of our first date).

One of our most vivid and happy memories from the day is when, after spending some time taking pictures outside in the August sun following the first look, the bridesmaids dashed over, bringing us some much needed fuel in the form of a McDonald’s burger and Coke.

One of my favorite moments was dancing with my Dad for the father-daughter dance. We took a few dance lessons before the big day, though it felt like I had spent my whole life dancing with my Dad in preparation for this special moment. I loved dancing with all my family, and couldn’t believe it when my grandmother joined us out on the dance floor, just before midnight, for a rousing version of Shout!

Sam’s favorite memory was the spirited ten-minute hora (a traditional Jewish celebratory dance). It has been so great to look back at the pictures and see all of our guests, many who did not know each other before that day, mixed together and hand in hand dancing with us on the museum floor.

Romantic English Garden Wedding

Considering a longer engagement? What if I told you that this wedding right here is what 19 months of planning gets you? Amazing, right?! It’s the ultimate Pinterest worthy celebration complete with a homemade cake, garden romance, and of course endless love. As far as we’re concerned Andy & Emma had the BEST wedding day. See it all captured by the majorly talented Sarah-Jane Ethan in The Vault!

From the Bride… Andy proposed on my 21st birthday. He left me hanging all morning and just before my birthday party that afternoon he approached me with our little girl, got down on one knee and proposed with the most beautiful ring, I was so shocked! Having Poppy there with us made it all the more special for me, together we shared another new chapter in our lives. Four days later Andy continued his romantic streak and we travelled first class to Paris, which was my birthday surprise. We had 4 magical days finishing of my 21st and celebrating our engagement. It was perfect.

Once we had discussed a wedding date there was no question about the venue. Before I had even met Andy I attended a small wedding at Newton Hall and just fell in love with the place. I remember saying to my dad that day ‘This is my dream venue if I get married’ Andy was so easy going he agreed to make an appointment with Newton. We didn’t want anything too formal and Like me Andy loved the unique vibe and felt it was perfect for us. SOLD, this was the beginning of planning my dream wedding.

I used Pinterest a lot when planning the wedding, you can find so many different ideas and styles on there. I created boards to collect things I liked and it helped me vision the look I wanted. The great thing about Newton Hall was that it already had so much character, we didn’t want to take away the unique interior. I made a few bits myself to add a little personal touch. Instead of wedding favours we made mini thank you bags for those who helped us throughout the planning and had personalised activity bags for the kids. Andy’s job was to create the cake, it was a complete surprise to me on the day and he done really well, I loved it and it fitted our theme perfect.

My dress was actually my second bought, oops! I finally found ‘The one’ 6 months before the wedding after doubting my original choice. I chose it from the very first shop I visited back in the early stage of planning. I loved the lace detail on my dress and the tiny buttons that ran right up the back. I also tied a small sequin belt to add a little extra sparkle.

After 19 months of planning our special day finally arrived. Andy was so nervous for the ceremony, it really meant a lot to him. The whole day was just magical, a highlight was our cocktail reception; the nervous part was over, everyone was now relaxed and we were introduced as Mr & Mrs for the first time to all our family and friends and that was a great feeling.

Sarah-Jane Ethan was our photographer. When I first browsed her website I loved the way she captured people’s weddings. Her images were bright and seemed to have that natural feel, which is what we were looking for. Talking to Sarah-Jane Ethan was always a pleasure, she was always so happy and friendly and on the day she made us feel so relaxed. We didn’t want a lot of formal pictures, we wanted our day to be captured naturally with life and laughter. I love the close up shots from around our venue and the finishing touches which make memories of our long planning. I love looking back at our photos they tell the story of our day and how everything fell into place so perfectly.

Rain Couldn’t Ruin this Rustic North Carolina Fall Wedding

This is the best success story for all brides-to-be to keep in mind when weather worries begin! Despite hurricane wind and rain, this wedding went off without a hitch, and with Jacin Fitzgerald Events leading the charge, and help from Tie That Binds and Groove Collection, these two never stopped smiling. Caroline Lima captured the memories in the making, both wet and dry, all in our Vault right this way!

From the Bride… Dean and I met through mutual friends towards the end of our junior year at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After a little over four years of dating we got engaged at our favorite spot in Chapel Hill, Merritt’s Pasture. Not long after that, the wedding planning began! We were at a bit of an advantage since my sister has photographed many weddings and has made a lot of friends in the wedding industry. She told us that we had to get in contact with Jacin Fitzgerald, of Jacin Fitzgerald Events. This was the best decision ever! Jacin helped us make our wedding day exactly what we wanted. Not only did Jacin rock from a professional standpoint, but we feel we have made a life-long friend. My parents agree, and several friends told us after the wedding that they were in love with Jacin. She went out of her way to make sure personal touches were put on every aspect of our day to highlight our personalities. We would definitely recommend Jacin to anyone looking for help with their wedding plans and details.

We both knew that our ideal wedding would be outside with a lot of meaningful touches. We searched around North Carolina for the perfect spot. We finally found Lake Eden Events in Black Mountain. As we drove onto the property we knew we found something special. As we were booking, I remember my dad looking over at me and saying “Are you sure? You know there’s no back-up plan here for a wedding this size.” I looked right back and said “I’m sure. I’ve looked at the Farmer’s Almanac, next October is going to be warm and dry.” Ha! Talk about famous last words. About a week out from our wedding the forecast began to take a scary turn thanks to Hurricane Joaquin. Jacin watched it like a hawk and provided a lot of updates. We moved from Plan A to Plan B to Plan C and then all the way to what seemed like Plan J. This probably sounds pretty stressful, but it really wasn’t. We knew we were in good hands.

The wedding day finally arrived! The ground was saturated from a week’s worth of rain, the hurricane winds were raging, and the rain was coming down. A bride’s worst nightmare, right? Nope! Everything went off without a hitch! Our wonderful photographer, Caroline Lima, took the effort to stop at several stores on her way to Black Mountain to gather as many clear umbrellas as she could find. She arrived with the biggest smile on her face and a “Let’s do this” attitude. Everyone was so great throughout this whole process. The staff at Lake Eden went out of their way to make sure we were all happy and comfortable, Jacin was doing her thing and making everything perfect, Caroline and her second shooter (Katherine Miles Jones) had everyone laughing, and our friends and family were the support and troopers that we knew they would be.

Dean and I had our first look in the rain, and despite it also being cold, we loved every minute of it. The rain let up a little as the ceremony began and our friend and officiant, Hunter Scott, gave us the meaningful ceremony we hoped for. Right after we were announced husband and wife there was a brief break in the sky. This was just in time for family formals. Caroline gathered us all and took the opportunity to get all of the family pictures we asked for. Then it was on to the reception. Our reception was exactly the celebration we had dreamed of for months! The food, which was provided by Black-Eyed Susan Catering, was absolutely delicious! The staff was also great and made sure our guests were happy and that the drinks were flowing all night. We met with Cyn of Black-Eyed Susan Catering several months earlier for a tasting and knew we made the right choice. We had such a hard time choosing our menu because everything was so tasty. The band ROCKED the dance floor all night long! Music was very important to both Dean and I so we made sure to take our time to find the band that was right for us. We were so happy that we found Groove Collection and that they were available for our date. We knew they were going to be great, but they blew our expectations out of the water! The dance floor was crowded all night long like we hoped. So many friends commented that this was the best wedding band they had ever heard and we can’t disagree.

We loved every single aspect of our day, despite the weather’s best efforts to rain on our parade. Our friends and family braved the storm and traveled from near and far to shower us with so much love. We were fortunate to have the best team and to have worked with some of the best vendors out there. Tie That Binds created the most meaningful paper products and other design elements that made our details so special. I really don’t know what Mekala of Tie That Binds can’t do. She created perfect invitations, menus, and beer labels (for the homebrews my talented husband made!), among other things that really brought everything together.

We truly cannot express how lucky we were to work with such amazing people. Everyone that played a role in our wedding went above and beyond in so many ways. We are beyond thankful to have had the wedding of our dreams, which was captured so perfectly by Caroline. We will never actually get to relive that day, but the photos come incredibly close to bringing us right back in the moment.
