Rustic Carmel Valley Ranch Wedding

Carmel Valley Ranch is simply made for marrying, we all know that.  So take those breathtaking views + rustic, yet completely elegant vibe and pair them up with a talented team of vendors like Coastside CoutureSeascape Flowers and The Hair + Makeup Company and the results are pure magic with a serious side of romance.  See every moment (+ one cute duo) from Carlie Statsky in THE VAULT.

From the Bride… I wanted our wedding to be a representation of who Matt and I are as people; laid back but very much in love. During the stresses of wedding planning, it’s easy to get stuck on making every detail “perfect” but it’s important to come back down to the main theme and go with something that truly illustrates who you are inside and out! We went with a soft, romantic feel with pops of bright colors against muted tones of green, a color combination that has been my favorite since I was a little girl. Seeing our ceremony site for the first time took my breath away. I was looking at my vision, a sheer idea on paper come to life on the most beautiful California summer day, and the best part… there was a groom waiting at the end of the Aisle to marry me.

Chateau Wedding in Brittany, France

A chateau wedding in the gorgeous french countryside reads like a complete fairytale to me. I’m pretty sure I’ve been to this very wedding in my day dreams, and it’s such a treat to see just such a day come to life via the talented lens of Sophie Delaveau. It was a day filled with personality and love, and there is so much more pretty waiting for you in the VAULT.

From The Bride…After being together for 20 years, we had planned our wedding in the west coast of France, in Brittany (Bretagne), to celebrate our love and family, and the 10 years of our son Alexandre who was our adorable ring bearer.

Our marriage gave us the opportunity to celebrate our anniversary of 20 years of love. We wanted to show that, even if life is sometimes difficult, we want to continue to strongly grow old together. We wanted this wedding to be intimate with few people, surrounded by our family and people dear to our heart. We imagined our wedding to be romantic, chic, with beautiful flowers. We love flowers, plants, and gardening. We dreamed about a place with character, old stones and woodwork, a quiet place that can suit both grown-ups and little ones, a venue that could seduce everyone. Brittany is full of beautiful castles and manors, and Manoir du Stang, in La Forêt Fouesnant, was our choice for the reception venue.

We organized everything on our own and we did it as we wanted to do it. Maybe not in a traditional way. For example, Christophe was by my side to help me to choose my wedding dress. He always knows what suits me or not. Even if he already saw me with my wedding dress before, he was so moved when he saw me the first time on our wedding day.

We also had quality vendors who gave us advice and helped us live a unique experience and to have a beautiful wedding day. Mademoiselle Anaïs, our floral designer, immediately seized all our desires, including my obsessive desire for symmetry (my two bridesmaids had the same dress in the same green water color and the same crown of flowers).

From our last vacation spent in the south of France, we found love with Mediterranean plants. We wanted to include these warm southern colors through our wedding day. With Melle Anaïs, we opted for tones of orange, coral, pink and green water. For flowers vases, we chose old gold containers. And we chose the theme of Succulent as thread of our design. This lovely succulent plant was everywhere: in our stationery, in the bridal bouquet, in boutonnieres, in bouquets centers tables, decorating the fireplace in the reception room, etc. For the bridal bouquet, I had a very clear idea of what I wanted. I wanted the bouquet to sublimate my dress, like a jewel, it would be adorned with beautiful colors and beautiful satin ribbons. It also had to be made of flowers evoking vivid memories or closed people, such as peony, my mom’s favorite flower.

Our photographer, Sophie, was so considerate towards us throughout the day, we sometimes felt she was part of our family. Like a real little guardian angel, she was ready to deal with everything and took care we didn’t lack anything (example: tissues, bottle of water, small energizing snack for the bride who began to fail). We choose her because we love her work. Her images are divine, so bright, full of sweetness and tenderness. We are still so happy to have wonderful photos of our wedding day.

It took us a year to organize our wedding according to our desire. We loved this whole period of preparations where we were in contact with professionals from very different worlds. All of our guests loved our wedding day and said it was so US. They were particularly impressed by the venue, by the small details of decoration and especially by flowers. For us, it was really a beautiful and unique adventure made of meetings, discussions and reflections which we had to continually be proactive, patience and above all…LOVE of course!

Romantic Palm Beach Vow Renewal

My heart just skipped a beat after seeing this gorgeous vow renewal from Simply Sarah Photography. Not only does it feature an ethereal wedding dress, lush blooms, a romantic setting with an old-world feel and one stunning Trumpet & Horn ring, but it also features a couple whose love will instantly bring a smile to your face. See all the pretty in The Vault!

From Simply Sarah Photography…I recently had the pleasure of capturing Brittany and Ben and the darling love they share.

From The Bride…Nearly ten years ago Brian and I started dating. We had mutual friends in common and we connected through Myspace. We gradually moved from Myspace to AOL instant messenger. We were both 18 years old and still living at home at the time and we communicated solely through IM for about 2 months or so (even though we only lived about 15 minutes away from each other). One night we were talking about our weekend plans and discovered randomly that we would both be going to the same concert in Fort Lauderdale, FL. We decided to finally meet up. I called him when I got to the show and he was already there. He told me to meet him inside and like something out of a movie we walked right past each other while on the phone, made quick eye contact and turned around to say at the same time “Brittany?” “Ben?” … And that was how we met! We started talking more frequently after that and began spending time together. We were young and we took things slow. A few months later we started dating and we dated for three years before tying the knot! We just celebrated our 7 year wedding anniversary on September 20th 2015. I feel that my marriage with Ben is the greatest gift I have ever received. I know there are a million cliche lines I could insert here that have been said over and over again, but I really am so thankful to have found my true match. There are almost no words to describe the feeling that, no matter what happens in our lives, we will always have each other. The peace and comfort that is found in that simple fact is indescribable. “In sickness and in health, in good times and bad, until death do us part.” The vows we made on our wedding day still ring so true. These past seven years are proof of our overwhelming love and commitment to each other. I know in the coming years we will embark on new journeys, make new memories and there may be times that we are faced with difficult obstacles. I believe that when we are faced with those obstacles, it’s how we overcome them that defines our love.

Bouquet Breakdown: Nautical Lake Michigan Wedding

Flowers on their own have the ability to captivate us completely, but add in the mastermind that is The Day Design into the posy equation and you’ve got yourself more than just a handful of pretty blooms. The outcome? We’d easily liken it as an art form. Which is why we’ve asked this powerhouse of petals to breakdown the magic behind this bouquet, below!

[dotted]

Nautical Lake Michigan Wedding

  • 3 White Clematis
  • 7 Helga Piaget Garden Roses
  • 4 Alabaster Garden Roses
  • 3 White Majolica Spray Roses
  • 3 White Anemones with Dark Centers
  • 5 Jasmine Vine
  • 3 Italian Ruscus
  • 2 Gunei Eucalyptus

From The Day Design Becca was a very elegant and chic bride and so her bouquet was a reflection of her. The aim was to combine lots of texture with classic blooms and a few touches that would tie in the rest of her nautical inspired décor. Anyone searching for white blooms will quickly discover that there aren’t many that are exactly pure white, rather most are tinged with a hint of yellow, blush or possibly lavender or green. We sought to bring out the tiniest kiss of pink in her flowers, which was accomplished with the white majolicas (which really have more of a blush cast), the dainty jasmine vine and the edges of the Helga Paiget garden roses, which have the smallest touch of dusty pink around their outer petals.A few anemones were added as their dark centers tied in perfectly with the men’s navy suits. The subtle blue of the gunei eucalyptus tied in with the blue green of the dune grass which was abundant all around. Other accents included clematis and Italian ruscus, as both have very smooth petals/leaves to give your eye a bit of a solid resting place, keeping the bouquet from becoming overly busy, which was a nod to Becca’s appreciation of clean lines. And certainly no bouquet of mine is complete without a long trail of ribbons. These midnight blue silk beauties flowed so delicately in the wind and are a must have for any beachy celebration.

This Cocktail Proves Easter Candy and Champagne are a Killer Combo

Easter Candy + Champagne (and some other yummy accoutrements) = Speckled Egg Mimosas.  And that, my friends, is how you do candy as an adult. These pretty mimosas from The Effortless Chic are perfect for left overs from Easter baskets and pretty enough to take center stage for brunch. Top with edible flowers and you’re good to go.

My favorite entertaining recipes are ones that may look fancy and creative, but are actually easy and breezy like this ‘Speckled Egg Mimosa’. The Easter cocktail that looks just as good as it tastes and couldn’t be easier to make!

Speckled Egg Mimosas
prep time
15 Minute/s
cook time
5 Minute/s
total time
20 Minute/s
Serves 4Ingredients
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. water
  • 8 blackberries
  • 1 bottle of champagne
  • 1 bag of speckled egg candies
  • 1 handful of edible flowers for garnish (available at Trader Joe’s and other markets!)
Instructions
  1. Bring the water to a boil and add sugar. As soon as the sugar has begun to dissolve, add the black berries and muddle to break them up and release the color. The ratio of water to sugar in this syrup is pretty diluted. The fruit adds extra sweetness and champagne is already a little sweet on it’s own, so it really doesn’t need much. Allow to simmer for 3-5 minutes then remove from heat.
  2. Once cool, drain the syrup into a glass pitcher through a strainer.
  3. To assemble the mimosas, place three speckled eggs in the bottom of each glass.
  4. Top each glass with about 2 ounces (or one shot) of blackberry simple syrup.
  5. Fill the remaining portion of the glass with champagne and then top with edible flowers!

#SMPWedding101 – Custom vs. Semi-Custom Invitation Suites

Choosing my wedding invites was oh so fun – and oh so overwhelming. The amount of options is mindblowing – and a bit confusing. So you could say we’re pretty happy to have Karla from Written Word Calligraphy here to explain the factors to consider when choosing semi-custom or custom invites. She recently launched a line of semi-custom invitations (can we say gorgeoussss!?) and with years of experience, she knows the 101 on what to keep in mind when making this decision.

First, let’s define…

  • Semi-custom invitation suites retain the general look and feel of the design, but couples have the chance to choose the colors, paper, type of printing, font and calligraphy styles, and determine the content of the wedding.
  • Custom invitations… well the sky’s the limit! Invitations can range from different mediums outside from paper, and the design is unique to your wedding.

Factors to Consider:

1. Style

Define your wedding’s style. Would you like to have a modern feel, or a natural, organic look; is calligraphy your thing, or is it typography and clean text? Each invitation designer has their own style, and they tend to lean towards a certain look for their semi-custom invitation collection. Depending on the look and feel that you are going for, you will be able to select your invitation designer, and see if their semi-custom collection could be a good fit for you. Our suites, for example, play with a lot of neutral tones, with touches of metallic, and organic elegant calligraphy. If you’re looking for a floral watercolor invitation suite or bright colors, then these semi-custom suites wouldn’t be a good fit. But, we have designed our semi-custom suites in such a way that they have the potential to fit into a variety of wedding styles, and with the unique touch of our calligraphy will make each invitation stand out. Some parts of our semi-custom suites are completely custom, such as our map cards – each wedding will definitely have a different map!

2. Timing

Fully custom invitations can take anywhere from two to six months, from design to production to assemblies. Depending on the design, the process can take quite long with presenting new designs and revisions. How far are you from your wedding date? Semi-custom invitations have a shorter timeline because the design process is shorter. Typically, once the content for the invitation is confirmed, it takes about a week to develop the design proof, and once approved, the printing could take three to four weeks, plus one to two weeks for calligraphy addressing and assembly. The entire process could be done in four to six weeks total.

3. Budget

Custom invitations are absolutely beautiful. We’ve had the absolute pleasure of creating some incredibly unique pieces – from embroidered linen folio invitations, to wood engraved wine boxes for Save the dates, to metal etched menus, to linen seating charts, and more! On paper, it really gives you the flexibility to choose all kinds of options, the way you want them to be! But some of these options may come at a bigger price tag than you can afford. Custom invitations, if they’re printed with the same materials exactly as your semi-custom invitations, can go from 30-50% higher in price, or even more. But it’s almost important to note that semi-custom invitations can still be range from $1,000-$3,000 or even more, depending on the options that are selected.

At the end of day, it’s considering all these factors and your personal preference when deciding to go with custom or semi-custom. For some couples, having their invitation absolutely unique to them really matters, they want them to be unlike any other. The most important thing is that the invitations you end up selecting will be a beautiful reflection of your love as a couple and of the wedding to come.

Getting Schooled in Pattern Play and the Perfect Pop of Color

Patterns and prints are tough ones. We all have those styles that we gravitate towards but getting them to blend seamlessly in your home is a whole different ballgame. Well Rebecca Yale’s Los Angeles home is a study in how to do it right. As an amazingly talented photographer and creative, she understands the art of balance and proportion and finding that perfect pop of color. Tour her entire home here.

After 10 years of living in New York City I knew I wanted a tranquil space out in Los Angeles with lots of natural light and a peaceful vibe with fun pops of color and patterns.

I commissioned my very talented friend Karla, from Written Word Calligraphy, to turn some of my favorite photographic quotes into works of art, which I hung on a gallery wall above my chair and framed a few more on top of my bookshelf intermingled with some more photos, including my parents and grandparents wedding photos, which we used on a memory table at my sister’s wedding. I love having those photos in my office because they remind me of the true heart and soul of weddings and the gravity of what I’m lucky enough to get to do!

The kitchen has a lovely breakfast nook and picking out the pillows for it was one of my favorite design tasks, because as you’ll quickly see I am obsessed with patterns!

Most of the vases and jars on the shelves are from design stores, but the middle shelf are glass hurricanes that were used as a centerpiece at one of the UNICEF snowflake balls I attended a few years ago. On the other side of the breakfast nook I hung some art prints from Inslee from her Calendar Girls series, which feel so fresh and happy and make me smile whenever I look at them.

The living space of the house is all very open plan, the dining room, living room, kitchen and even my office all flow together, which I love. The house has these gorgeous reclaimed wood beams and they’re such a beautiful and distinctive statement I didn’t want to go too crazy with anything else, but I do love patterns and bright colors so I used them as accents throughout the house.

One of the biggest decorating challenges was balancing meaningful pieces from my travels and from my family with aesthetically pleasing decor items. My favorite items in my house are definitely the ones that mean the most to me, like my grandmother’s map of Paris from the 1950’s or her matchbook collection in an oversized brandy snifter, which I keep next to my matchbook collection in an oversized martini glass. The wood ladder shelves in my living room are a perfect mix of the two, with some fun decorative items I just fell in love with, travel finds, and pictures of my family, mixed with my grandfather’s vintage camera collection and some gifted artwork from friends.

The dining room came with a very distinctive chandelier and I knew I was doing the black and gold Rifle city wall paper in there so I kept the walls simple with a vintage map of Paris and a photograph of my childhood dog I took in high school when I was learning to use medium format cameras. I put a wine fridge in the corner and put the overflow into a large buffet piece, which was another great black friday deal from Arhaus!

The bar cart from Society Social I actually had in my apartment in NY and I just love how versatile it is and what a statement it makes! My favorite pieces on my barcart are my penguin wine opener that I got on my way down to Antarctica and an empty bottle of Veuve Cliquot that I keep on the bottom shelf, which my sister bought for my going away party from NYC and everyone at the party signed the bottle, same goes for the Perrier Jouet bottle, which my friends and I drank my last night in NYC and it’s such a beautiful bottle I had to keep it!

I’ve been collecting art books since high school and have a rather large collection of them so I knew I wanted them to be prominent in my office both as a design feature, and easily accessible, because I’ll often pull some to look through for inspiration. My favorites that I look through most often are in the living room so guests can flip through them too.

Before I even found my house I knew I wanted to do accent walls of funky wall paper. I had seen them in a client’s apartment in the East Village years ago and had been dreaming of doing them myself ever since. As a lover of all things Rifle Paper and Co it was a natural fit to do a wall in my living room and a wall in my guest bedroom with her paper.

Los Angeles is earthquake country so I didn’t want to hang any artwork above a bed, so wall paper was the perfect fit to give both bedrooms visual interest. For the guest room I used a robin’s egg blue and gold paper in the guest bedroom and a gold and white hand-painted paper in the master bedroom, that I felt looked like a giant slab of marble.

For the master bedroom I found this beautiful peacock colored bed and planned everything around that. I knew I couldn’t hang anything on the back wall and wanted it to make a statement and was so excited when I found this hand painted wallpaper at Walnut, an amazing wallpaper store in the design district in LA.

The ensuite bathroom has a large window that looks into the backyard and I love how jungle-y it feels when its open and I wanted the same vibe when I had it closed so I bought the Tommy Bahama Palm Print fabric he designed for the Beverly Hills Hotel and had a seamstress on etsy make it into curtains for me.

After I put those up I decided to keep going with the rain forest aesthetic with a bamboo tray and terrarium around the bathtub. I hung a photograph I took of my sister swimming in the ocean in Costa Rica and a beautiful print of Cockatoo’s by the very talented artists, Inslee on either side of the window above the tub. The bathroom has these great nook shelves in it, which I filled with delicious candles, which are scattered all over my house. I absolutely love a good candle and almost always have one burning when I’m home.

The day after I moved in El Nino hit LA and it poured non-stop, which reminded me of Costa Rica and I decided my backyard looked like Costa Rica. The house came with the beautiful couch and umbrella and I wanted to make it a fun place to sit so I added the coffee table and the poufs, made out of the same Tommy Bahama fabric as my bathroom curtains.

I realized the best view was looking at the backyard though and when you sit on the couch you’re looking at the house so I found a great egg shaped chair, perfect for small spaces, that fit against the wall between the master bedroom and the living room, which is the perfect place to sit and watch the backyard, which being in the canyons, gets lots of interesting bird visitors. I love succulents and have them all over my house, but the two blue planters on either side of the fountain and the hanging ones above them in my backyard are my favorites. California is in a severe drought, so the fountain is drained, but these planters are a very low-water big-impact alternative.

Elegant Mansion Wedding in Beverly Hills

I adore a laid-back affair just as much as the next person, but give me a classic soiree literally dripping in elegant details and be.still.my.heart.  So this pretty little party from the lens of Carmen Santorelli?  Sort of my everything.  Think gorgeous styling from Casa Siena Design, florals from Nisie’s Enchanted Florist and a Monique L’Huillier gown that is all sorts of awesome. See it all in THE VAULT.

From Carmen Santorelli… I am thrilled to share Shery and Mehdi’s stunning wedding with you! They are such a beautiful couple inside and out and their wedding day was a joy to capture. There were so many perfect details and traditions that really spoke to Shery and Mehdi as a couple and made the big day personal.

The couple chose the stunning Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills as their reception venue. They had both organic elements incorporated in the decor while maintaining an elegant and timeless feel. I loved the white florals with whimsical greenery and gold highlights throughout the ceremony details. One of my favorite elements of their day were the cello and violin players that lined up the entire walkway at the mansion, during their cocktail hour. The ceremony incorporated beautiful Persian traditions, and the dove release has been by far one of the most incredible things I’ve photographed at a wedding. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Elopement in Santorini Island

Santorini may just be one of my favorite places on the planet, so it makes perfect sense to me that this couple wanted to say I do on one of the prettiest islands in the whole wide world. And with the beyond talented Anna Roussos behind the lens to captured all the stunning moments, we are all left with a gallery that is beautiful in every sense of the word. See even more in the VAULT.

From The Bride…After visiting Greece in 2010 I was mesmerized with Santorini. I truly fell in love with the town, the people and the culture, which is very similar to our Latin culture. There is no other word to describe Santorini other than magical. My dream was one day to get married in Santorini and that dream came true when I met Marcelo. We wanted the wedding to be about us and our love so we decided to forgo the stress and elope in Greece. There can still be some stress planning a wedding from many miles away but this was easily gone once we found a wedding planner in Santorini to help our dream come true.

Thanks to social media we were able to find all the vendors we wanted for our day. The most important for us was finding a great photographer to capture the moment for our family and friends. We found Anna Roussos and immediately changed our wedding date just to have her as our photographer. It was totally worth it! Maria from Divine Weddings helped us through every step of the way and even took us to our florist to hand select the flowers for our wedding day. Every detail was planned out. Our wedding day was amazing we couldn’t have asked for more, as it was stress-free and only about us two. It was truly breathtaking, romantic and sentimental sharing this beautiful day with the love of my life in the most beautiful place in the world. The best day ever!!

Al Fresco Charlottesville Fall Wedding

This wedding is the perfect example of why Amore Events By Cody is so wonderful. Not only did she design this gorgeous day and all the stunning florals, but she went above and beyond, helping  the beautiful Bride book hotel blocks, arrange transportation, select a venue, come up with a theme, and, in the Bride’s words “pull my discombobulated vision of what I thought I wanted my wedding to be into the event of a lifetime.” See all the beauty from Gianny Campos Photography in The Vault!

From The Bride…When I look back on my wedding, I’m filled with relief and joy. It was both one of the best days of my life, and it was one of the most stressful times ever. We had originally planned on a long engagement, which got shortened quite a bit (from over a year and a half to a little less than 9 months). I couldn’t have made it through without the support of my amazing wedding planner, Cody Grannis, of Amore Events by Cody. She was my rock throughout the entire process and helped me and my husband step through the entire wedding planning experience. She helped me book hotel blocks, arrange transportation, select a venue, come up with a theme, and pulled my discombobulated vision of what I thought I wanted my wedding to be like into the event of a lifetime.

Luckily enough, we live in beautiful Charlottesville. I’m an alumnus of the University of Virginia, so I couldn’t think of a better place to be wed than at Alumni Hall. I think we were one of the few couples getting married that weekend that were actually from the area! It was a good thing because we were right down the street from both our baker, Albemarle Baking Company, and our caterer, The Local.

Going into this process, I wanted our wedding to have a wow factor, an event that family would gush about for years after the fact. My husband imagined the day to be rich with subtle elegance and class. We both wanted our guests to have an amazing time. I chose the palette for the wedding: burgundy, gold, blush, champagne, and French grey. I wanted it to be a modern take on the colors for a traditional Chinese wedding, which are red and yellow gold, with complementary colors that emphasized Charlottesville’s beautiful fall colors.

When making the seating decisions, we decided to name the tables after our favorite restaurants in Charlottesville. We had our first date at C&O, so we made that restaurant’s name, the name of our head table. Our cocktails were his Manhattan and my Merry Mimosa, which is Gran Marnier added to a traditional mimosa. I wanted real flowers for our wedding, but I couldn’t afford any budget busting blooms. Luckily, my wedding planner is also an amazing floral artist. She made the red berry boutonnieres for the groomsmen and attendants. For the bouquets that my bridesmaids and I would hold, I really wanted lush, vibrant flowers and kind of fell in love with how amaranthus drapes, so my bouquet had some and the other bridesmaids held red calla lilies, dahlias, roses, and many other flowers that I do not have the talent to identify.

Our day came out to be utter perfection. We had fantastic weather, a beautiful venue, and all of our loved ones came to join us in our little city. I got married on the stone terrace right outside of the ballroom where we held our reception. Since it was a gorgeous fall day, we held our cocktail hour right on the front patio of the building. The string quartet played in the corner as our guests mixed and mingled, with yard games available out front for the kids and whiskey tastings for the adults.

In order to better separate the space between the reception and the cocktail hour, I had all of the doors and entryways into the ballroom draped. This was a bit challenging because there is no real door that separates the ballroom from the annex. My wedding coordinator worked with MS Events, and we were able to partition the entry way with drapes and the hang bistro lights behind the curtains, so that as they were drawn back, the lights would get lost in the fabric and create an intimate, romantic atmosphere.

Our wedding party danced out to Hall and Oate’s You Make My Dreams, and then our guests were seated for a plated dinner. After toasts, we offered cake and gelato. We danced throughout the night and ended the event with a sparkler exit. We had an amazing day and shared wonderful moments with all of our guests.
