Southern Backyard Wedding at the Groom’s Childhood Home

Nestled on a sprawling lawn overlooking the bayou, this at-home wedding was one for the books. The 30-person wedding party arrived by boat and guests were treated to handcrafted cocktails and a locally-sourced menu any foodie would love. Justin DeMutiis photographed and a visit to the gallery is an absolute must.

Having met at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Northwest Florida holds a special place in the hearts of Grant and Alex. The ceremony and reception were both held at the home where Grant was raised in Panama City. The Goodwiller home is nestled on a 3-acre lawn overlooking the bayou. This was the home where Grant was raised and was the perfect intimate setting for a wedding with nearly 250 of their closest friends. Guests spent the weekend in Rosemary Beach on the famous Highway 30A, soaking in the sun and sugar sand beaches.

Custom watercolor invitations were handcrafted by Karli Strohschein. Grant and Alex worked directly with Karli to create a custom crest which included aspects of the couple’s personalities.  The crest reappeared throughout the wedding and was later displayed on the dinner menus.

Upon arrival, golf carts escorted guests to the pool house where they awaited the 30-person wedding party as they arrived by boat. As the wedding party entered the ceremony from the dock, the bride, escorted by her mother and father, and wearing the veil of the Groom’s mother, walked down the hill under a canopy of live oaks.

The ceremony was written by the bride and groom and officiated by Pastor Marty Martin, a lifelong family friend. Both mothers led a prayer at the end of the ceremony before the band played The Beatles “All You Need is Love” as the wedding party exited.

Following the ceremony, the guests continued to visit poolside as signature cocktails were served. A spin-off of the French 75, the Thyme Spent on I-75 cocktail contained Sparkling Wine, Old St. Pete Gin, Ocala Blueberries, Thyme, and Indian River Grapefruit, all locally grown and sourced. A 12-foot cypress plank, cut from Grant’s family farm was prepared with charcuterie, Georgia olives, and fresh bread. Guests were also served raw gulf oysters during the post-ceremony cocktail hour. After the cocktail hour, guests danced their way to the front yard for dinner as they were led by a horn and tambourine procession of “The Saints Go Marching In”.

Both Alex and Grant have a strong passion for food and wine. They were thrilled to work with Chef Chris Infinger from G. Foley’s Restaurant in Panama City. Chef Chris locally sources all of his ingredients and worked with Grant and Alex to create a seasonal menu served family style for their guests. The meal started with Florida Corn and Anson Mills muffins and an heirloom tomato salad. The main course was pan seared gulf caught black grouper, cheese yogurt, whipped Florida gold potatoes, and roasted turnips. Guests sat at farm tables and listened to the bride and groom’s custom playlist which included songs from The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and James Taylor.

After dinner, the procession of horns and tambourines led guests to the back patio of the home for an evening full of dancing and live music.

Learn the Art of Scandinavian Style with this Toronto Home Tour

Minimalism is a hard style to embrace. Especially for those who love knick knacks and bright pops of color. I for sure fall in that latter camp. But every single time I spot a Scandinavian style home, I’m all on board. The neutral tones and serene, uncluttered spaces are a total dream. Amy Carrillo knows exactly how to design just such a space. Check out her latest addition to the Scandinavian Team of Allstars with even more shot by The Love Studio in the VAULT.

THE LIVING ROOM

Hope and Luke wanted to keep the look uncluttered and inviting. On their must-have list was a “reading nook”. We scored an awesome Scandinavian-style rocker on Kijiji which goes perfectly with a modern light fixture and some favourite art on the wall.

We framed one of Hope’s beautiful black and white drawings paired with an abstract watercolour print from Minted. The coffee tables black base adds a nice geometric element to the space. The sectional is SUPER comfy! Hope and Luke knew they wanted a sleek silhouette for their sectional so we opted for a refined style in a beautiful light grey fabric.

The sectionals low back also helps make the space feel more open since the entrance opens up to that space. The 2 handmade throw pillows are from a favourite Toronto shop called Bookhou.

THE ENTRY WAY

Since there was no real estate to put a bench, we needed to find a small stool for putting shoes on. We added a vintage milk stool and patterned rug to add some character to the space.

Luke really wanted to have a photo of a pineapple in the entryway as it’s a symbol of welcome, friendship and hospitality. Paired with a black and white photo from their wedding, it’s a cute way to say hello to guests!

THE DINING AREA

Since most of their home is white, we wanted to create an inviting nook in the dining area. We created a black accent wall and hung a piece of driftwood to add some texture and interest to the space.

Since it’s a rather small space, we opted for an extendable table and a bench which is great for entertaining.

THE KITCHEN

To warm up the grey and white kitchen, we brought in some wooden accessories as well as some mango wood stools to help ground the space.

THE BEDROOM

To satisfy both Hope & Luke, I wanted to create a bedroom that was gender neutral. Hope wanted a little vanity area so we tucked it into the corner by the window, which is perfect by the natural light.

The white shelf and chair almost blend into the wall so it doesn’t take up too much visual space. We introduced some darker, bolder colors on Luke’s side of the bed which consists of a handsome vintage desk that we used as a side table (thank you Door Number Two!)and an indigo rug to add some pattern. We turned this blank space into a relaxed, Scandinavian-inspired abode filled with art and local finds.

From the Bride…

How We Met
AJ’s Uncle Bob was my High School history teacher and I became life-long friends with his two sons, Mike and Matt. AJ moved in with his cousin Mike shortly after college. It wasn’t until then, that Mike had the bright idea of putting his match-making skills to the test. Our first meeting included a dinner party with mutual friends, Cards of Humanity and AJ accidentally spraying red wine all over the ceiling.

Engagement
Christmas has always been my favorite holiday and a time that we both love sharing with family and friends. AJ proposed Christmas morning, while opening gifts, at my childhood home in Walnut Grove, CA. Both of our families were present and his grandparents from Texas even flew in for the surprise!

Wedding Details
AJ and I both grew up on a chain of islands situated in the Sacramento/San Joaquin River Delta, this was the inspiration behind our seating chart. We had a custom map designed of all the islands. Each guests name tag had their name and their corresponding latitude/longitude coordinates. The guest would find their name tag, go up to the map, follow their coordinates and see which island they were sitting on. Each table was named a different island.

From the Bride… Tim and I always knew we wanted to get married on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland as it was where we had our first date almost 7 years ago. We took our time planning our wedding over 16 months with the help of our family and friends. It was great to have our family fully involved in the planning process and together we made our invitations and the decorations for the ceremony and reception. Our wedding day was better than we could have ever imagined and everything came together perfectly! Our favourite part of the day was seeing each other down the aisle for the first time and hearing each others personalised vows. The vows were really important to us, we wanted them to be personal and to truly express how we felt about one another. A highlight for me was surprising Tim with our two-faced Star Wars cake and the light saber bridal entry. He has always been a massive star wars fan and I knew incorporating that into our day would mean a lot to him. We wanted our day to reflect who we were as a couple and having all these personal touches is what really made our day!

From Matt Rowe PhotographyHaving met Courtney and Tim some time out from their big day (and even meeting their fur-baby), we really felt connected to this endearing couple. They were both so excited and at ease on their wedding day that it was near tangible to account for how present they were throughout their ceremony and special time on our location shoot in the beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland. It was one of those weddings that had everyone smiling throughout the day – from prep to reception- and we have no doubt that Tim and Courtney are a perfect match supported by positive friends and family as they head forth into the future together.

From Robert & Kathleen PhotographersTo hear Lindsay’s family and friends tell it, she knew that Blake was someone special really early on – not long after she had first spotted him teaching tennis at the Bath & Tennis club near her parent’s home. In fact, Lindsay knew how she felt about Blake before he had even realized that Lindsay’s interest in him was not solely based on tennis. But once he did, Blake could hardly believe his luck that he had managed to find a woman so perfect for him – smart, gorgeous and interested in so many of the same things that are important to him. So it’s safe to say that this wedding day was one that all of Lindsay & Blake’s family and friends had been excitedly awaiting. It was even more perfect than anyone could have pictured. There was rain, yes (a lot, at times) but Lindsay and Blake weren’t going to let that dampen their happiness for even one minute. They braved the raindrops for photos, held each other under an umbrella and were delighted when the rain stopped just enough for their guests to enjoy the spectacular view from the Rumson Country Club during their cocktail hour. And when Lindsay and Blake danced their first dance as husband and wife with their friends and family surrounding them on the dance floor – they could see was the joy of all the people important to them surrounding them in every direction. And their guests got to see, first hand, the love that Lindsay and Blake first found on the tennis courts so many years before.

From the Bride… I met Blake just about five years ago. I was home from grad school looking for a job and decided to take up tennis again to pass the time. My parents live in beautiful Spring Lake, NJ about a block away from the beach and walking distance the Spring Lake Bath and Tennis Club, where I spent every summer of my childhood. I walked over one afternoon to sign up for a tennis lesson and, unbeknownst to me, meet my future husband. Or at least hear his voice. As I was arranging my tennis lesson, I asked the front desk manager whom I should take from. I heard a voice behind me say “Well you’ll either get the father or the son” and I immediately got butterflies in my stomach. I never knew you could fall in love at first sound. I was in a long-term relationship with someone else at the time, so I decided to go with the father. I officially met Blake a few days later when I showed up for a clinic session at the club. After two summers of flirting with each other we finally got together over Thanksgiving weekend in 2012.
Flash forward to May 21, 2016. After an engagement period of nearly two years, our wedding day was finally here. The forecast had said it would downpour the entire day so that morning I was pleasantly surprised to see that the rain had held off so far. It would rain periodically throughout the day, but that didn’t dampen our spirits. Getting married is so surreal. All my troubles seemed to melt away once I put on my Rosa Clara dress. I could do no wrong – it was as if the dress was made for me. I’m so lucky to have found it thanks to the awesome consultants at Lovely Bride in New York City.
The planning process truly was stressful, though, to say the least. It was very difficult for me to give up any creative control and so I ended up doing most of the grunt work. I had a crystal clear idea of what I wanted in my head, but finding examples online proved challenging. Pinterest and Etsy quickly became my best friends. Things seemed to be on track and this past November I hired an event planner to handle day-of logistics and help me decide on some of my outstanding vendors. At the time I still had yet to hire vendors for transportation, cake, hair, and makeup. Come February, though, it was plain to see that our relationship was not working out. She had stopped returning my phone calls and emails. Whatever was going on behind the scenes was clearly preventing her from doing her job and I unfortunately terminated our contract. Luckily Blake, along with our family and friends, really stepped up during this time and I was able to hire a fabulous day-of coordinator in Kaysie McKay of Backyard Bride Consulting. My florist Kate Duffy and my photographers Robert and Kathleen Trenske stepped up in a big way as well, giving me some great advice. Needless to say, when everything came together on our wedding day, it was a satisfaction I have rarely felt before.
My bridesmaids were absolutely stunning in their mix and match tulle dresses from Amsale, and my gorgeous sister (and maid of honor) just shined in her Adrianna Papell gown. I was a bit apprehensive about the color palette I chose but in the end the risk paid off. Shout out to the Madison, NJ branch of Bella Bridesmaids for placing the orders for us and accommodating my out-of-town girls. And of course I couldn’t be happier with my hair and makeup gals Denee and Miranda. They are so talented and I know every single one of my girls (myself included) felt beautiful that day.
The guys didn’t look too shabby either in their charcoal suits from The Black Tux. Blake rented his three-piece gray suit from The Black Tux as well. This was another risk that paid off. I had heard about The Black Tux from a co-worker of mine. She raved about how great her husband and his groomsmen looked on their wedding day. I was skeptical, but intrigued. The truth is Blake and his grooomsmen are not suit people. And I didn’t want to force them to buy a new suit they would never wear. The Black Tux was the perfect compromise. Everyone looked perfect!
Because we had over 200 guests at our wedding it was very important to me that we incorporate little touches to make each guest feel welcome and appreciated. I curated items from Etsy and Amazon to make welcome bags for each of our hotel guests. I found cute little burlap gift bags on Etsy and ordered blank gift tags on which I hand lettered a welcome message. (Quick side note: I got quite good at “faux calligraphy” as I hand lettered each save-the-date and invitation. For the wedding I finally wised up and hired a professional, MaryKate McMahon, who made the most beautiful placecards and table numbers.) Going back to the welcome bags,  I included gluten-free and vegan snacks so that everyone could enjoy along with an emergency kit (Advil, Tums, cotton swabs, makeup remover, eye drops, gum and more) just in case people overindulged. Finally, each welcome bag included brochures and booklets on things to do in the area. Blake and I love where we live and we were so excited to share this special place with our closest friends and family.
Kate, our florist, arranged for us to rent three rectangular farm tables at which sat our bridal party plus their guests. In order to make the people sitting at these tables feel extra special I ordered laser-cut wooden place settings. You will see them in the pictures. I was so pleased with the way they came out and they were such a nice keepsake for folks to take home. Additionally, we set out white pashmina scarves for people to take on a first-come first-serve basis. Since it was chilly outside these came in handy and so many people thanked me throughout the night for thinking ahead.
There were so many amazing moments that happened throughout the day its almost too many to mention! I’ll start with the ceremony. It was so meaningful for us to have our wedding ceremony at Tower Hill Church in Red Bank. This is the same church in which Blake’s parents got married and our organist even played at their wedding. Just after our first kiss as husband and wife, our pastor had us turn and face all of our family and friends. At that point I could see Blake’s mom stand up and as we began to walk back down the aisle everyone else followed suit. I know it meant the world to her that we decided to start our lives at Tower Hill and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
All of the speeches were outstanding. My dad started it off by welcoming everyone and introducing those who had traveled from afar to be with us. He then launched into the most embarrassing origin story about how Blake and I first got together. He was certainly a tough act to follow but our dear friend Theresa was up to the task. Theresa was such an amazing person for my sister and I to be around as we were growing up. She was our live-in nanny and I basically worshiped her as a child. I was so touched by the blessing she gave and so glad that everyone got to meet her.
Blake’s brother and my sister really stepped up their games and delivered heartfelt and hilarious speeches. But one of the most memorable moments of the night for me came during the father/daughter dance. My sister joined the band (the fabulous Billy Stone Band from Hank Lane) and sang “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. She was a musical theater major in college but I hadn’t heard her perform in about four years. She absolutely knocked it out the park.
Other highlights included my cousin walking my mom down the aisle, a contingent of students from Blake’s elementary school coming to watch the ceremony (Blake is an elementary school physical education teacher), the band singing “Read all day” the Taylor Swift parody Blake and his colleagues wrote and recorded to promote Read Across America Day last year (you can watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjf7H8K9r4U), me smashing cake in Blake’s face, and Blake delivering a heartfelt speech to his groomsmen and sister immediately following cake cutting.
These moments were all beautifully captured by Robert and Kathleen Photographers. I absolutely love the amount of candids they took of all our friends and family and you can really re-live the night through the photographs they took.
Finally, I want to shout-out a couple of my amazing vendors, namely my florist Kate Duffy and my invitations designer Amy Zaleski of Invitations Ink. Kate did such a lovely job with the ceremony decorations. I especially loved the urns on either side of the raised platform filled with beautiful green and white flowering branches. She completely transformed the feel of the reception venue from preppy and nautical to romantic and whimsical. The centerpieces on the three farm tables in particular were spectacular. Our wedding save-the-date set the tone and expectations for our wedding and Amy created a wonderful watercolor of the entrance to the Rumson Country Club. We were able to re-use the image on the menu cards. It was perfect. As were our invitations. I was going for a classic, turn of the century look and she achieved it magnificently.
Blake and I will never forget our wedding day. Thanks for letting me share a bit of it with you!

You Might Remember this Epic Dress from ‘Bride Wars’

I truly didn’t think it could get much better than their Florence engagement session, but then I laid eyes on Claire and Tony’s wedding day and went to cloud nine. Claire, a vision in her Vera Wang ball gown (remember it as Kate Hudson’s dress in Brides Wars?!), and Tony, handsome as can be in his Tom Ford tux, treated their guests to an Italian style celebration in California. No detail was left untouched and there’s endless pretty to be seen in the gallery from KT Merry.

From the Bride…

Wedding Gown

Shortly after Tony and I got engaged, I scheduled a bridal gown consultation at Vera Wang to celebrate our engagement and the start of wedding planning with my sisters and mom. I had zero intentions of actually choosing a gown on our first outing as we had only been engaged for a few days and we had yet to set the date or select a venue. However, the moment I caught sight of the Vera Wang gown Kate Hudson wore in “Bride Wars,” I knew I had found the one! A few twirls later, we put down the deposit and called it a day. Since the dress is quite a BIG statement, it was important to us that our wedding matched the style of the dress— elegant, romantic, and classic.

Vision

At the time, we were living in Florence, Italy and we wanted to choose a venue that captured the essence of Tuscany, complete with rolling hills and sunset views. My sisters suggested Clos LaChance Winery in San Martin, California and we immediately fell in love with the vineyard’s Tuscan charm, panoramic views, and California feel. We even booked it prior to ever visiting! The venue provided an elegant, yet easygoing and intimate setting to create our dream Tuscan-inspired wedding.

Color Palette

We chose a classic color palette of white, ivory, and pale blush with gold accents that enhanced the aesthetics of the venue and added a touch of elegance without distracting from the setting’s natural beauty. We are not a traditional couple by any means. In fact, we had three maids of honor and three best men, including our beloved dog, but I was uncertain whether an all-white bridal party would be a fleeting trend or detract from the bride. Eventually, we decided we loved the look of a clean white and ivory color scheme and any other color would take away from the backdrop’s gorgeous views. I wanted all of my bridesmaids to feel beautiful so I asked them to choose their preferred dress style. From maternity to mermaid style dresses, all of my bridesmaids looked incredible in their unique style and I knew there wouldn’t be any confusion over who the bride was with the size of my dress!

Florals

We worked with an amazing florist, Shawna of Flower Divas, who helped transform Clos LaChance from charming to elegant. We were extremely fortunate that our florist was really our pseudo wedding planner, because planning a destination wedding (even if the destination is your hometown) from abroad without a wedding planner is stressful! She was available 24/7, offered advice and suggestions, and brought our vision to life. She did so much work behind the scenes, including contacting five different wholesalers to find creamy white French Anemones with dark blue centers to tie in with my husband’s midnight blue tuxedo for our June wedding! For the bridal bouquets, floral garlands, and centerpieces we used a variety of white, ivory, and pale blush David Austen Garden Roses, Ecuadorian roses, ranunculus, hydrangeas, lisianthus, and French Anemones. We decorated the wedding ceremony aisle with an assortment of overflowing stone urns to create a Tuscan feel. We brought in an arch and covered it in tulle fabric to complement my dress and draped it with white and ivory floral garlands to create a “frame” for our ceremony.

We wanted our ceremony to be personal, meaningful, and entertaining so we opted to write our own vows and asked my brother-in-law to officiate. We had so much fun writing and planning our ceremony and it made our day that much more special to have a family member marry us. It didn’t hurt that we had guests in tears from laughing so hard either! On a last minute whim, I asked our florist to create a customized floral backdrop for our photo booth and it ended up being one of my favorite aspects of the night! We used artificial green ivy mats for the wall and adorned it with fresh flowers in white, ivory, and blush. We worked with Shutterbooth to create a personalized logo for our photo strip, which included our monogram, names, and the date of our wedding. Guests couldn’t get enough of the photo booth, which made for some pretty memorable photos towards the end of the night! For the dinner reception we continued with the white and ivory color palette and selected ivory linens and subtle ivory and champagne pinstriped napkins to create a clean and classic look. We used a mix of high and low centerpieces with gold votive candles, gold framed table numbers, gold letterpress menus, and gold accented chargers, flatware, and glassware to create an elegant and romantic tablescape.

Food

We are both huge foodies and it was important to us that our wedding dinner was delicious, memorable, and interactive for our wedding guests. We worked with our caterer, CordeValle, to create a customized plated family-style dinner that was symbolic of our time living abroad, but also paid homage to the California region. At the dinner service, guests were encouraged to share, relax, and indulge in multiple servings of dishes prepared with local ingredients that held a special place in our hearts. Cordevalle was able to recreate several of our favorite “food memories,” including a Salad of Endives with Crispy Potatoes, Dijon, Pancetta, and Poached Egg reminiscent of one of our favorite bistros in Paris and Smoked Angus Striploin with a Blackberry Demi Glaze using local California produce. At the end of the night, we offered “Late Night Bites” to our guests that represented our favorite guilty pleasures, such as “In’N’Out” style sliders and fries, Chicago style cheddar and caramel popcorn, and mini doughnuts.

Personal Touches

To add a personal DIY touch to our wedding, I asked my mom to handwrite all of our wedding signage. We collected gold frames for months leading up to the wedding and she used her calligraphy skills and a gold permanent marker to create the table seating assignment, bar, dessert, and guestbook signs. One of our favorite signs was a quote from F. Scott Fitzgerald representative of the “Lost Generation” in Paris where we currently live, which we displayed at the bar during cocktail hour.

Advice for Other Brides

As you get into the final stages of planning your wedding it’s inevitable you will have regrets (venue regrets, vendor regrets, dress regrets, invitation regrets, décor regrets, budget regrets, etc.), but chances are you have already put down a deposit or signed a contract and there’s no turning back now. Just TRY to remember how you fell in love with the idea in the first place, trust your instincts, and remind yourself of what’s really important; you are getting married to the love of your life and you get to celebrate with all of your loved ones!

From Sapphire EventsThe first time that Barclay laid eyes on Lia it was love at first site, but it wasn’t until one year later that they finally went on their first date. As a couple they shared a passion for travel and cuisine. Their relationship quickly progressed as they moved to Italy for 6 months and then moved back to the states but were long distance while Barclay lived in New York for culinary school and Lia worked in Austin. Their first trip as a couple was to New Orleans so they knew that this was the only place that they would ever dream of getting married. The couple said their vows at the Immaculate Conception Jesuit Church in front of their closest family and friends ending their ceremony with a second line to their reception at the Board of Trade. Lia and Barclay had a southern magnolia wedding cake and a croquembouche in lieu of a grooms cake with the same cake topper that was used at Barclay’s grandparents wedding. The couple danced the night away with music performed by Azz Izz and partied in true New Orleans fashion concluding the night with another second line led by Mardi Gras Indians with a final destination of the historic French Quarter.

It’s still officially summer for ten more days. The trees are still green, the sunshine is still gracing our shoulders and that means al fresco parties are still totally game. From Erin James, Editor-in-Chief at Sip NWFor the summer issue of Sip Northwest magazine, we took the summer celebration outside. From setting the scene to setting the table and dishing up the best flavors of the season, we called on local florists, chefs, party planners and mixologists to throw Sip Northwest’s own summertime supper and to get you ready to take your evening meal outside of the indoor box.

From Blue Rose PhotographyThis was such a fun shoot to capture with a great team of talented people involved. Tamara of Simply By Tamara Nicole Wedding Planning gave some great tips on how to have a great summer dinner party. She talks about setting the mood with lighting, using your garden for your table decor, and creating menus to add a special touch for guests. Rebecca Dashow of Urban Bloom gives floral arranging tips and seasonal summer favorites to create an inviting atmosphere for guests. Seattle’s top chefs give their favorite recipes for summer dinners including a Northwest Cheese Plate, Gazpacho, Kale salad, Whole roasted trout, and my personal favorite Rose Panna Cotta (you must make this and try it!). An Engagement in the Heart of Florence

Before we dive into Tony and Claire’s wedding day (coming up this afternoon!) it’s important to hear the love story where it all began. It’s the tale of two Americans who met in college, moved abroad and became engaged while living in Florence. Naturally, they asked KT Merry to photograph their e-session in the city that holds their hearts with their sweet pup, Louie along for the fun.

From KT… Two Americans who meet during their final year at Northwestern University followed their work to Italy and found themselves engaged and living abroad in one of the world’s most romantic cities – Florence. To document their love of travel and this adventurous time in their life we photographed Claire and Tony (and their darling lab, Louie!) in the their new home amisdt the history and busy culture that make Florence such a magical place. The birthplace of the Renaissance is the perfect place to begin a love story…

From the bride… Tony and I met in January 2012 during our senior year at Northwestern University. We were at one of the city’s trashiest college bars and I was inebriated beyond recollection and feeling bold. I introduced myself to Tony, who unbeknownst to me was the designated driver that evening, chatted his ear off and quizzed him on my name several times throughout our conversation. Later that night as Tony tried to end his night early as the designated driver, he asked if I wanted a ride back to Evanston, which I misinterpreted as him trying to make a pass and responded, “Um, no! But if you want, you can ask me for my number and maybe we can go out sometime…” Surprisingly, Tony took me up on the offer and asked me for my number. Tony texted two days later and asked to go to Peet’s Coffee on Sunday, where we had our first sober conversation and I decided he was “The One.” We had our first official date on Tuesday, our first kiss on Saturday, and the rest, as they say, is history! In December 2014 Tony and I were living in Florence, Italy and planning to visit my home in California over the holidays. Tony tried his hardest to keep the proposal a secret, but I spoiled the surprise when I “accidentally” stumbled across a text message about the engagement from his mother. However, Tony did surprise me when he popped the question on Christmas Eve in front of all of my family and planned a surprise engagement party with all of our friends and family. We knew we wanted to get married in Northern California, but we wanted our engagement photo session to document our time living abroad in Florence, Italy. Fortunately, our wedding photographer, KT Merry, was in Greece for a destination wedding and we were able to coordinate a destination engagement session several months prior to the big day.

We met with KT and her husband, Chad, bright and early at 6AM to avoid the crowds, catch the sunrise, and hit up some of our favorite spots in Florence. KT and Chad were both so professional, personable, and friendly and made our engagement session such a fun and relaxing experience.

We are so happy we decided to do an engagement session in Florence because it gave us an opportunity to document our time abroad with an amazing photographer in a city that has played a huge role in our relationship and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

A Traditional Southern Cathedral Wedding Bathed in Blue

Meg and Eric’s wedding is basically the most beautiful thing in the entire world. Bathed in beautiful hues of blue and one of the chicest church ceremonies ever, The Happy Bloom has captured it all to share in The Vault and Vitor Lindo has got the entire day filmed and waiting for you below!

From The Happy BloomMeg & Eric decided on a traditional Catholic ceremony for their big day here in Savannah, Georgia. With a ceremony at Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and reception at nearby Savannah Hilton Desoto, this wedding day was built to be beautiful! Donned in Navy, Meg’s girls carried fresh white peonies and roses with blushy taupe ribbon. The boys went with a classic tux, suspenders and a bowtie. This wedding party was dressed to impress! Keeping in line with their traditional values, Meg and Eric opted out of a first look allowing the groom to see his bride for the first time as she walked down the incredible aisle of the Cathedral. The sun had just set while the couple said “I do”. With the whole wedding party behind us, we rushed out to the front stone steps for a fun and exciting round of portraits before the night took over!

From the Groom… We met at our crossfit gym, CFNA. I had just moved here from Ohio after my college graduation for Chiropractic School. I got a part time job at the gym to make a little money while in school. My first day at the gym, I was was standing at the front of the gym and saw Meg carrying/ corralling 5 small kids very easily and I was immediately interested. My first words to her were, “You’re going to make a great mother some day.” Little did I know how much that comment would resound with Meg, but she has since told me how much it did. From there, we slowly got to know each other through our training at CFNA and we both knew we wanted to get to know each other better. So when the appropriate time came, I asked Meg on a date and the rest is history!

Peek Inside a Blogger Turned Bride’s Classic Southern Wedding

You know her as blogger Taylor-Rae over at Style Souffle, and we’ve already peeked inside her girly-chic bridal shower. Today, we’re coming full circle because Kristin Byrum Photography is sharing the images from her wedding, which brought a sense of European charm to the South. Set at the Duke Mansion, it’s black-tie classic in every way and we’re thrilled beyond words to bring these pretties to The Vault.

When, after five years of dating, it came time to plan their wedding, there was no question that it would be a black-tie affair, and have the feel of another time. In fact, Taylor-Rae and Justin had just the place in mind: a historical mansion in their hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. The property had the exuded the European charm they had in mind.

On July 4, 2016, the couple exchanged self-penned vows under an arbor adorned with topiaries, trailing ivy, camellia foliage, white hydrangeas and soft blush peonies. Set under a large oak tree, a string quartet filled the gardens with melodic, traditional tunes. The processional was, “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri, the bride entered to Pachelbel’s “Canon in D,” and the newlyweds recessed to Bruno Mars’ “Marry You.” They shared their first dance to “First Dance” by Corey Smith. Following the ceremony, guests gathered in the grand foyer where they enjoyed good conversation over specialty cocktails and butler passed hors d’oeuvres. With a nod to the Italian theme, the couple chose Peach Bellinis as the signature beverage that evening, along with an open bar serving an assort of wine, beer and liquors. Upon arrival, out of town guests were greeted by a wooden box filled with cheese and crackers, decadent chocolates, champagne, almonds and a pocket size cigar tin. A “wedding-recovery kit” containing mints, mouthwash, aspirin, and an Emergen-C pack were discretely hidden in a “happily ever after” satchel too.

Taylor-Rae showered her bridesmaids with hand-crafted robes from Piyama, an Australian boutique, and beautiful monogrammed pendant and pearl earrings to wear down the aisle. Her own getting ready robe matched her attendants’ but was all-white with delicate lace details befitting of a bride. Following cocktail hour, guests found their seats with the help of a hand-calligraphed lucite seating chart that was suspended in one of two archways that bookended the canopied courtyard where dinner was served.

At the plated dinner, each place was set with white Anthropologie china, gold flatware, and a calligraphed menu with the couple’s crest at the top. Centerpieces consisted of an array aged whitewashed terra-cotta vases in a range of sizes, filled with white and soft blush flowers including gardenias and sarah bernhardt peonies, Juliet garden roses, sweet peas, and hydrangeas. The arrangements were full of green ivy and camellia foliage for texture.

The three-course dinner began with “Watermelon Wedge and Arugula Salad”, followed by either Grilled Airline Chicken or Cold Water Salmon, Shiitake and Mushroom Risotto, and a dessert of delicious wedding cake & limoncello imported from Italy. The three-tiered almond cake was covered first in cream cheese frosting and then fondant, and topped ivy and minimal floral details based on the European elegant theme. Following dinner, and the cake cutting, guests gathered in the grand ballroom for bridal party introductions and an evening of dancing to the national live band, Sol Fusion.

Rustic Chic + Regalality = This Ranch Inspired Wedding

We should probably start by saying we’re completely obsessed with this cake and it’s totally cute topper. So, we think it’s safe to say that Brittanie and Brett’s wedding totally takes the cake. From their rustic chic ceremony, to the fun cocktail hour snacks like churros dipped in vanilla milkshakes, chicken and waffles, and soft pretzels (!!) this is one celebration that we’re seriously smitten with. Captured by Anna Delores Photography we’re falling in love with every bit of it via The Vault!

From Anna Delores PhotographyBrittanie and Brett were looking for a secluded Santa Barbara-area estate to hold their wedding as a little escape for guests coming from all over California and beyond. But Brittanie didn’t want the details that guests might be expecting from a ranch wedding, so balanced the rustic vibes of Whispering Rose Ranch with modernly elegant details. Brittanie and wedding planner Vanessa Noel Events put together a neutral palette of nudes, blushes, mixed metallic, and classic white, with lots of lush greenery. Specialty lounge furniture (at both the cocktail hour and reception space) from Archive Rentals, potted plants and beautiful floral design from Stella Bloom Designs, and a variety of vintage rugs at the ceremony and reception sites glammed up the horse ranch. The combination of bohemian and classically elegant elements was an unexpected spin on the typical country ranch wedding. The property is also host to a local population of deer, which provided a fun photo opp for the newly married couple! Field to Table offered guests fun cocktail hour snacks like churros dipped in vanilla milkshakes, chicken and waffles, and soft pretzels.
