An Intimate Villa Wedding That’s Totally Chic

At a first glance, this wedding is all about the pretty, but dig a little deeper and you’ll notice all of the personalized details. Like the fact that this darling pair incorporated beeswax favors to honor the groom’s family bee farm – or how about the generational pin that the bride wore throughout the day. Thankfully these details are just the beginning because Kristina Adams has captured it all to share in The Vault!

From the Bride… Trends are constantly evolving, and weddings are no different – so our day was not at all the frivolous, glitzy, taffeta adorned event I pictured as a little girl.. And thank goodness for that! My vision shifted to something clean, elegant, and classic, while incorporating subtle personal touches to make the whole thing feel unique and intimate. As a nod to our families, we incorporated bees wax, honey, and honeycomb (with homemade beeswax candle favors, honey in our signature cocktail, and by presenting honeycomb on the passed appetizers) to acknowledge Brian’s stepdad who runs a bee farm in Minnesota. On my side, my mother, grandmother, and I all wore a four leaf clover pin in our shoe throughout the day that has been passed down throughout the generations. The cake topper that we used was also the one my parents had used and saved from their wedding. The location, invitations, and venue all held special significance to us as well, in their own ways representing aspects of the life Brian and I have built together. I run a small business making hand painted wooden signs, so not surprisingly, I hand painted and chalked all the signs that were used at the wedding which were placed around the venue, as well as the events leading up to the wedding day. I worked with one of my good friends (who was also one of my bridesmaids) to design our invitation. She created a small watercolor painting which we had printed on the invites, of ivy leaves similar to those covering the walls of the venue, and swallows which are birds known to return to San Juan Capistrano every year, and a well-known symbol of the city.

An Incredible Mountain Wedding With 12 Guests

There are a million reasons to want a wedding in the mountains, but for McKenzie & Brandon it came down to a celebratory escape with 12 of their nearest and dearest. Nestled in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, they crafted a truly intimate affair with Heather Payne behind the lens. We’re obsessed with the end results and if you have yet to check out their rehearsal dinner, what are you waiting for?

From Heather Payne… McKenzie & Brandon celebrated their destination wedding weekend in the hills of Telluride, Colorado surrounded by 12 of their closest family members at the most quaint venue tucked into the San Juan Mountains called the Observatory at Alta Lakes. The panoramic views were absolutely magical…a photographer’s dream!

The couple pulled together an incredible team to create and execute the intimate event, including Kelly Perry of Philosophy Flowers who was designer and florist. Brown Linen custom-designed all of the paper goods for the event, including a hand drawn picture of the venue and a watercolor pamphlet outlining the weekend’s events. Kelly designed incredible custom pieces including a custom crest (inspired by the crest on their invitations) & bridal bouquet with fragrant white and green creation of garden roses, ranunculas, tulips, local sweet peas, tuberose, pieris, bay, and dusty miller.

Each and every detail included in the wedding held special meaning to the couple. My favorite being an Italian veil that was worn by both the groom’s grandmother and mother at their own weddings. It was my honor to photograph this event and it will be one I will never forget!

Organic, Locally Sourced Florals for a Rustic Chic Wedding

An ultra elegant affair graced with organic blooms (that were locally sourced!) and off-the-rack outfits, Annika and Brandan’s wedding is what we like to call a personalized affair with some flair. From the heirloom floral tucked into the bride’s bouquet, to the outdoor ceremony, we’ve got every bit of beauty from this day captured by Anna Peters waiting for you to favorite via The Vault!

From Anna PetersAnnika and Brandan wanted their wedding day to be stylish, laid back, and fun! They balanced classic touches like these ultra elegant invitations from Kayd Creatives with fresh, organic blooms sourced locally from Beehaven Flower farm. J. Crew was the brand of choice for both the bride and groom! They were able to incorporate so many thoughtful personal elements into the day, including tucking a piece of her great grandmother’s wedding day flower crown into her bouquet and wearing a custom bracelet with a blue stone given to her mother. Guests sipped wine and danced into the sunset, sending the couple off with deluge of biodegradable confetti (a great way to create a spectacular grand exit while being environmentally conscious)!

Bright Blue Steals the Show at this Gorgeous Greek Wedding

From the fashion forward heels to the chic cake by Alliance Bakery, we have a classic city wedding with gorgeous Greek influences making it far from boring. Elizabeth Nord and True Shot Studios captured all the beautiful blues that are quickly taking over our Pinterest feed – see more in our Vault right this way!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/178670612 600 338]

From Elizabeth NordEmily and Chris’s wedding day was full of Greek traditions and elegant details! They had their ceremony at the St Paul of the Cross church in Park Ridge, IL and their reception at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel downtown.

Emily began her day by getting ready at her parent’s home in Park Ridge which featured the most beautiful room filled with tons of natural light. Her details were exquisite! Among my favorites were her blue Badgley Mischka heels, classic white and blue stationery, and the traditional Greek eye that the bridesmaids wore on the neck of their dresses. The Greek wear the eye for protection against the evil eye, which is said to cast away misfortune (such as bad luck or sickness) upon a person. Emily also had all of her bridesmaids sign the bottom of her shoe before leaving for the ceremony. According to the Greek tradition, you’re supposed to check the bottom of the shoe at the end of the night and whoever’s name has rubbed off the most is supposed to be married next. The bridesmaids’ bouquets included beautiful white roses and peonies, while Emily’s included a pop of blue flowers. Chris got ready in Rosemont, IL with his family and friends. I loved his navy and white striped cufflinks, navy suit, and crazy colored fun socks!

As we made our way to the church for the ceremony, there were more details waiting! On a silver tray laid a silver chalice with the bride and groom’s names engraved as well as the stefana (Greek wedding crowns). Emily and Chris also decided to include two types of ceremony programs: an English version and a Greek version. The reception was filled with traditional Greek dances such as the 12-step dance and one amazing mother-son dance! The bride, groom, and their guests all took part in smashing plates in celebration of their wedding day.

See How Chic a Brunch Wedding Can Be!

If you think elegant weddings only take place at dusk, you better think again because these two Grooms are about to prove otherwise. They opted for a chic brunchtime “I do” with floral design by KITANIM mimosas a’plenty. Right this way to all the fun.

From KITANIM, a floral design and event company It was an amazing wedding weekend at The Four Seasons Palm Beach. A chic cocktail party rehearsal dinner followed by an elegant all white floral wedding reception brunch to celebrate the happy couple. Steven and Alex chose beautiful white hydrangea and accent greenery to compliment their WOW wedding centerpieces of exploding Open Cut Calla Lilies.

Truly, Steven and Alex make a fabulous couple — and their wedding was truly a reflection of their love and commitment to one another. An intimate guest list of immediate friends and family poured in from Dallas and Miami to watch Steven and Alex say “I do” under a manzanita and orchid detailed chuppah designed by Kitanim Flowers.

The brunch reception was elegant and yet casual chic with waffles and delicious breakfast fare. Guests danced to the beats of DJ Zak Mann, they ate and they toasted the grooms with heartfelt speeches. But, by far, the most exciting part of the wedding was the grooms’ announcement that they are expecting twins. The Four Seasons staff led by Hotel Event Specialist Crystal Prante played along with this surprise announcement and in perfect synch, rolled in carts of blue and pink pastry wedding treats. The crowd exploded with claps and awe gasps. A wedding and twins. All in all, it was a weekend of pure love with lots more excitement to come.

A Magical Wedding Weekend Kick Off in the Mountains

I like days like today. Days where we get to really dive into a weekend long celebration, starting with this rehearsal dinner set among the beauty of the Colorado mountains, captured by Heather Payne. But this is just the beginning; we have the romantic wedding day itself on our Front Page coming next!

From Heather Payne… McKenzie and Brandon traveled to Telluride, Colorado, from New Mexico with 12 of their family members for their intimate celebration. They kicked of their celebratory weekend with an intimate lakeside Italian feast rehearsal dinner inspired by their love of nature and mountain views. The family stayed in a cabin surrounded by the beauty of the San Juan Mountains at the Observatory at Alta Lakes for the wedding weekend.

McKenzie saw the rehearsal dinner as a great opportunity to rock a flower crown and vibrant florals made by Kelly Perry of Philosophy Flowers. The dinner was set up along the Alta Lakes which was a perfect setting with breathtaking views. The table was covered with embossed sky-blue linens and crystal glasses.

The couple and I snuck away into the hills to photograph them surrounded by nature. They found the most perfect tree where the engraved their initials into the bark. It was the most perfect intimate celebration and the photos are priceless.

A Blogger Bride’s Berry Sweet Surprise Bridesmaid Brunch

Hi SMP brides! Shelby here from Pretty in the Pines and today I’m sharing all the details of how I asked my bridesmaids and flower girls to be a part of our wedding day! Since it had been several months since the engagement, I had quite some time to think of ideas of how I would ask all of my best friends and family to be in our wedding party.

I thought about giving gifts and asking separately, or even sending surprise packages and letters in the mail, but I knew that deep down, my best case scenario would be if I could somehow get all of my favorite girls together at the same place at the same time. I not only hoped to pull-off a mini party for all of them, but I wanted to make the occasion as much of a surprise as possible! Once I decided on having a surprise bridesmaid brunch at my favorite venue in Raleigh, Merrimon Wynne, I asked my wedding planner, Stephanie Scholl Events, if she could help with the planning and design of it all!

“I envisioned a berry-themed brunch because, after all,

it was a party thrown for all of the ‘sweetest’ ladies in my life.”

[dotted]

As soon as I could coordinate the same date for everyone, I met with Stephanie Scholl Events and told her about the theme and vision I had in mind. I envisioned a berry themed brunch because, after all, it was a party thrown for all of the ‘sweetest’ ladies in my life. I also have a love for all things blue and it was the perfect opportunity to incorporate my favorite color and to use these teal berry baskets to fill up with small gifts for the girls. Luckily, Raleigh has some pretty talented vendors for occasions like these and Stephanie Scholl Events was able to bring the vision to life so perfectly! I sent out an invitation that invited them to a “summer brunch” (and made sure not to make it too obvious) that later followed with a lot of “what should I wear?” texts.

At 11:00 on the morning of the brunch, each bridesmaid and flower girl arrived to the house (by this time, some of them were pretty suspicious of why they were there) and I could hardly contain my excitement! This was one of the first times where I had all of my closest women in my life in one spot and the feeling was indescribable! We sipped on delicious drinks made at a mimosa and berry bar while catching up with each other as we waited for the rest of the girls to arrive. As soon as everyone arrived to the house, we sat down at the table and I gave each girl their gift, a watercolor “Will You Be My Bridesmaid?” print by Sage Paper Co., and a handwritten note complete with all the feels! I gave a toast about why we were all there and it didn’t take long before the room was filled with tears. Some of these girls I had known since college, high school, and some my entire life, but I couldn’t get over how wonderful it felt to have them all there together.

The baskets for each bridesmaid were filled with cookies by Oak City Cookies decorated with our wedding date, a bottle of Speak Wines, and a bridesmaid emergency kit from Pinch Provisions! It also included a pair of Moon and Lola earrings, a favorite candle of mine (hello, CCapri Blue Candles), and a cosmetic pouch from Paper Source! My two flower girls felt like princesses in their flower crowns and they were too cute exploring the house in their matching outfits they showed up in that morning! One of them asked why there weren’t any boys invited to this wedding, thinking that was the actual wedding, haha!

We ate the most delicious brunch by Belle’s Catering, complete with a biscuit bar, mini chicken and waffles, berry parfaits, and mini quiches. We finished off the meal with dessert by one of my all-time favorite Raleigh bakeries, The Cupcake Shoppe. I’m talking lavender French macarons, mini blackberry chocolate mousse tarts, vanilla bean cheesecake pops, and mini blackberry cupcakes. It was berry dessert heaven! The room was absolutely magical and even more beautiful than I envisioned it would be. The style had a simplistic but elegant feel with neutral and classic furniture rentals by Cottage Luxe and berry branches intertwined with gorgeous florals by Serendipity Designs. Although the décor was beautiful and just my style, the house was filled with SO much love and that made it so special. In fact, each aspect of the entire day was so special and it got me very excited for the next 10 months leading up to the wedding. Thankfully, I have a pretty amazing photographer friend and sorority sister, Megan Kerns Photography, who was there to capture the entire morning! Next step: find bridesmaid dresses!

A Wedding All About “Rustic Meets Modern”

Set at Ojai Valley Inn, this wedding lives at the style intersection of rustic and modern. Think long farm tables paired with sleek Eames chairs for an unexpected look captured by Michelle Beller. Take a peek in The Vault and see why this day is giving us #weddingenvy in a serious way.

From the Bride… Matt and I met 7 years ago through mutual friends while I was visiting Los Angeles, I would say it was love at first sight but we needed a weekend in San Francisco (where I lived at the time) a family vacation to Hawaii and weekend at Coachella to truly call it love. We didn’t do the long distance thing for long, I moved down to LA just a few short months after meeting. We currently live in San Francisco with our 9-year-old chocolate lab (also named Sophie, I kid you not, you could call it fate).

I always envisioned a small wedding but I knew shortly after meeting Matt’s family that that was not a likely story. Much the reason I fell in love with his family, they are big and loving and there is no one they could leave behind. So we did our best to keep the intimate feel, Ojai was perfect not only because Matt’s two sisters had both married there 8 and 9 years prior! But also because there is no place more quaint, romantic and exudes that boho vibe.

Our wedding was beyond magical (everyone says that but there is no better way to describe it). We did our best to bring some creativity to the traditional, which meant having our wedding party dance down the aisle and we couldn’t have added the fun and beautiful final touches from the menus to the secret note inscribed escort cards without Lotus&Ash.

A very special moment for us was when our sophiebear (the dog) couldn’t stand sitting with the rest of the guests and insisted that she join us under the chuppah. She knew it was a special moment and that she had to be a part of it.

Each detail was thought out by our amazing Samantha Sackler Productions Team. They produced the simple yet elevated dinner party aesthetic that we were dreaming of. From walking down the aisle to the beautiful birch wood chuppah that was surround by the mountains, to the gorgeous rustic cocktail reception that overlooked the reception space. I can recall one of the most intimate moments was being introduced as Mr. & Mrs. Schwab. Walking into the eclectic reception space and seeing our vision come true. We were surrounded by our loved ones in this breathtaking space. SSP designed such a beautiful space with natural woods and modern touches that brought our wedding to that next level feel. Keeping the with simplicity and natural feel of Ojai Valley Inn, we danced the night away under the disco ball.

5 Reasons You Should Definitely Do a Babymoon

Now that I’m in my second trimester of pregnancy, things are becoming more and more real. Like, wait a minute—you mean I won’t be able to just head out the door for a mani whenever I feel like it? Or go on a spur of the moment date with my hubs? Yeah, that parent-to-be reality is hitting us, which is exactly why we’re taking a cue from this dreamy babymoon sesh captured by Maitha Lunde and seriously considering a babymoon. Plus, tips on why you should too if you’re expecting!

Maternity Session

Taking a babymoon is a great opportunity to do a maternity session and capture those sweet bump moments. Memories that you’ll cherish, look back on and someday show your child or children the sweet months that led up to their arrival into this world.

Bonding

Life doesn’t stop or slow down and give you time to catch up when you get pregnant or have a baby. Each of those nine months will feel long and quick at the same time and you’ll realize that you still haven’t had that special time to bond and talk about all of your dreams for this baby as a couple. Or, look back at your memories as two. Forcing yourself to take a babymoon is making the time to do that—to bond, to converse, to dream, to reminisce to share your worries and fears, to share your excitement and happiness and give each other the credit that you deserve for your strength in this journey.

Because, you deserve it.

Take it from someone who just went through the physical and emotional challenges that the first trimester brings. Creating a human is tough business, not only on the mama-to-be but her partner too, who picks up the extra slack when nausea and fatigue take over. Treating yourselves to a little vacay before baby comes is SO deserved and will give you that extra boost you need before the real fatigue of sleep deprivation sets in.

Don’t Worry, Be Happy

Sure, you’re going to have babysitters, family and/or nannies to call on when you need a night out or want to take an adult-only vacation down the road. But will you ever take a kid-less vacation again without feeling like you left a piece of your heart at home or have little worries about those sweet babes in the back of your mind? Probably not. And that’s totally OK and a part of being a parent. But take this last mindless getaway while you can!

Why NOT?

In my opinion of pregnancy thus far, it is WAY harder than planning a wedding. And we usually treat ourselves to a honeymoon after a wedding, right? So, don’t feel guilty if a babymoon sounds selfish just because it’s a semi-newer concept. It’s not. You’ll get a few traditional people who look at you like, what the heck is a babymoon? But you don’t even have to call it that if you don’t want to. Just tell those eyebrow-raisers you’re taking a well-deserved vacation before baby arrives.

From Maitha LundeI’ve shot in the Amalfi Coast several times now as it’s becoming a very big destination for couples. Khatu & Darren contacted me because they were booked to have their babymoon in Positano, Italy. They were interested in a style maternity session. Khatu, a Vietnamese style blogger and a recent graduate from School of Fashion Design in Boston, Massachusetts made her own dress just days before! Her powder blue gown blended effortlessly into the Tyrrhenian Sea. During the summer it gets super busy. The first time I met them was at 4:30 AM, just before sunrise. I wanted to avoid the heat and crowd as I didn’t want to risk of having a crowded beach at sunset. Positano is pretty hilly so I kept the location simple as to not distress Khatu and her swollen legs. We had perfect weather and I think the location really suited the stylish couple and their last memory of being just two.

From Still55 Photography… Caiti and Jack are amazing people. They both attended Elon but didn’t start dating until they met in New York. Jack proposed in Dumbo on a bench that overlooked the Manhattan Skyline. Once engaged they decided to host their wedding at the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk VA. Caiti’s family has ties to the area and she absolutely fell in love with museum when she visited it. Mainly the architecture, she adored the stone archways, muted grays and neutral tones and the grandeur of the imperial columns that the museum showcased. She incorporated those elements into the overall design of her wedding. Blending both her style and the existing features of the space together to create a elegant cohesive space for her family and friends to enjoy.

Caiti was no stranger to blending things together, in fact she wound up taking pieces from three separate dresses to create her very own dream dress! With the help of talented ateliers and many fittings she wore a one-of-kind on her wedding day. Another one-of-kind item introduced itself at the cocktail hour, Jack’s father is a Coca-Cola Exec and had custom glass bottles created for their wedding. The outstanding team of vendors all helped bring to life the wedding of their dreams! All in all we couldn’t be happier for these two, they truly are great people and we wish them the very best in the life ahead.
