How To Design a Dreamy Bedroom from Scratch for Under 1K Total

Designing any room from scratch can be such a challenging process—aesthetically and financially. Especially a bedroom that’s not so high on the priority list (i.e. you don’t have thousands set aside to make it happen). But let me attest, a dreamy bedroom is SO achievable and with only hundreds my friends. I’m not talking a few simple pieces, I’m talking soup to nuts, these 12 gorgeous items all under 1K total. With $65 left for paint or accessories! You’re welcome.

We Love This Bride’s Something Blue

When your bridesmaids‘ just so happen to be your ‘something blue’, we think that takes sentimental to a new level. Cue this stunning celebration from Shelly Goodman that will give you all the feels, we’ve got it all waiting for you in The Vault!

From Shelly GoodmanReunited after months of long distance with Tim in the U.S. Airforce on the other side of the world, these two had an amazingly beautiful, emotion-filled wedding. Katy & Tim picked the prettiest historic neighborhood in all of St. Louis for the backdrop of their wedding day. Lafayette Park Square is surrounded by black wrought-iron fence and tall, stately, elegant restored homes from the 1800’s. And keeping with restored old beautiful buildings, their ceremony & reception location was at the Palladium, an old historic brick building once part of a hospital.

Katy chose a pastel palette of blushes, whites, and periwinkle. The florals in these hues were so dreamy and the black centers of the anemones were the perfect tie-in to the men’s classic black suits. But Katy’s gown was the real stunner: a sweet, strapless A-line with white floral sheer organza overlaying blush pink tulle and an attachable extending train…simply gorgeous!

From the Bride…Tim and I met at a bible study while attending the same church in Belleville, IL. After a few months of getting to know each other, I told Tim I was interested in dating; however, knowing he was about to leave for a year tour in South Korea (Tim is active duty U.S. Air Force) he wasn’t sure he wanted to start a relationship. It wasn’t until several months later – after I went on a date with someone else – that he admitted he felt the same. We started dating only two months before he left for South Korea (thank goodness for FaceTime!)

While home on a visit, Tim proposed on our one-year anniversary. Planning a wedding on opposite sides of the world was definitely a challenge, but it forced us to work together and we are so fortunate to have such wonderful friends and family who helped us through all of it.

We had already been looking at venues in the St. Louis area, and knew the Palladium was the perfect fit. Nicole Jenkins (the coordinator there) helped us through all of the details. We wanted something romantic and classic, but also modern-feeling. It came together beautifully. Butler’s Pantry catered the passed hors d’oeuvres and dinner for 165 guests – blackened mahi mahi with mango relish and basmati rice, chicken breast stuffed with manchengo cheese and sundried tomatoes, and cheese tortellini. I can’t tell you how many people told me it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding!

After dating long distance for almost our entire relationship (Tim moved directly from South Korea to Tacoma, WA, where I moved after our wedding) we were very excited to start our new life together.

Words can’t describe the joy and anticipation we felt on our wedding day. It is surreal to have all the people you love in one room watching you make such an amazing commitment to your spouse. Someone gave me the advice to stop during the ceremony and look out to all of your family and friends – it is incredible to feel so much love at once.

The entire day was so special to us – getting to spend the mornings with our best friends relaxing and taking photos was so fun! My Hayley Paige for Jim Hjelm wedding dress was the most beautiful thing I have ever worn. It was blush pink tulle layered with printed organza – light and dreamy. It even had pockets and a removable watteau train! I waited months for Tim to see me in it at our first look in Lafayette Square Park and it was an incredibly emotional and wonderful moment.

My favorite part of the day was without a doubt walking down the aisle to my husband. For a moment it felt as though we were the only two people in the room – I didn’t even notice my dress brushed over some candles down the aisle and guests were helping ensure it didn’t catch fire!

We were honored to have our close friend Udell Meyers perform the ceremony in the Joule and then everyone walked over to the Palladium for the hors d’oevues, dinner and dancing.

The reception went by in a blur as we danced, caught up with friends and family and tried thank everyone for coming. I am so glad we chose an amazing photographer and videographer to record the day for us – it truly goes by so fast and now we have the memories to last us a lifetime.

From the Bride… Michael and I met each other in high school but it wasn’t until college that we started dating. We both grew up in Miami but after high school I went to college in Boca Raton and Michael moved up to Boston. As fate would have it, he eventually moved back home to Miami. One weekend while I was home, we reconnected at a gathering of mutual friends. We started dating very shortly after and we dated for almost 6 years before getting married!

Once he proposed, I immediately started envisioning just how beautiful our wedding could be. After visiting the Coral Gables Country Club, we knew it was the venue for us. The gorgeous chandeliers throughout the space were perfect for the elegant, romantic evening we were both hoping for. I instantly could picture marrying my best friend in my dream wedding dress, by Hayley Paige, that I had already chosen prior to the venue search!

We chose a color palette of blush, white and gold. For the bridesmaid dresses, I knew I wanted to go with the mix and match look. Each bridesmaid wore a different blush Adrianna Papell dress with customized jewels by Kendra Scott. The ring bearer and flower girls (our adorable three nieces!) matched the bridesmaids in fluffy white and blush tulle dresses adorned with pink satin bow on the back. The groomsmen wore black tuxes with a blush vest and tie, tying in with the blush theme.

I knew right away I wanted to incorporate peonies (my favorite flower!) into our wedding. We ended up doing a mix of peonies, hydrangeas, garden roses and succulents. Our florist Richard, from the Bud Stop, was able to create a gorgeous arch for our ceremony out of curly willow. He also included some curly willow inside the centerpieces at each of the tables. The florals turned out even better than we ever imagined. For our place cards, we did potted succulents with name tags that doubled as a takeaway at the end of the night.

Dinner started off with a caprese salad, followed by a lime and tequila intermezzo. For the main entree, guests enjoyed steak and lobster with a side of three cheese risotto. Later on in the evening, we offered our guests passed late night bites and had stations available where they could grab some gelato or a coffee. Michael and I made sure to pause for a moment while we were eating dinner and just look around and take it all in together. That’s one of our favorite moments from the night. We ended the night with a sparkler exit and were off for our honeymoon in Italy days later. Looking back now, It all felt like a dream.

I had so much fun planning my own wedding over the past year (albeit, stressful at times!) but it was all so worth it in the end. It felt so rewarding seeing it all come together! It was such a fun night with close friends and family that we’ll never forget. We were lucky to have found such amazing vendors that helped make it such a special day. I hope you enjoyed these moments from our wedding day! It was truly the best day of my life and I’m so excited to have had the opportunity to share it all with you.

Crop Tops + Chic Cakes for the Win!

A wedding dress complete with a crop top and a cake as fun and fabulous as this one? Oh yes I’m lovin’ it. Blue Rose Photography captured these chic details and more at this Washington state wedding that leaves us with major heart eyes. See it all in our Vault right this way!

From Blue Rose PhotographyWe knew after shooting their engagement sessions that this was going to be an amazing wedding. Jake and Alex are so sweet and you immediately feel like you have known them forever. They smile a lot! Which is great for photographers. Alex totally won at styling herself. She wore a crop top Haley Paige gown with a classic up-do and simple but perfectly styled accessories. Jake made bow ties look amazing and the two of them together looked even better. The wedding was laid back and filled with joy and great light. I love that they enjoyed themselves so much and didn’t stress out.

From the Bride… Our wedding truly was a dream come true. Never have we ever felt so much love or pure happiness. If we could do it all over again we would and we wouldn’t change a single thing; not even missing our ‘entrance song’ because we couldn’t get Jake’s bow tie back on. It’s funny – you stress over every detail and try to attain that picture perfect wedding, but on the day of, it just doesn’t matter. When I woke up that morning, all I cared about was seeing Jake. I didn’t care about the table settings or the flowers or even the decorations that took me hours on end to assemble. All that mattered was that I was getting married to my best friend, and we were about to celebrate our asses off with everyone we love. My advice to future brides is to listen when people say things like “don’t forget to enjoy yourself” or “don’t stress the small stuff”, because it goes by faster than you could ever imagine!

3,000 Tulips Lined the Aisle For Their Ceremony!

White tulips and spring weddings go together like PB & J, and this wedding photographed by Luna de Mare delivers that idea…big time. Oak And The Owl lined the ceremony aisle with THREE THOUSAND tulips, not to mention the hanging tulip installation above the couple’s exchange of vows. Floral lovers, you can officially count this as your luckiest day.

From Luna de Mare PhotographyLaura and Nick were wed at the beautiful El Encanto with an oceanfront view, and an old-world classic elegance reminiscent of what one would imagine a garden party would be like with the Kennedy’s summering in the Hamptons. Three thousand white Tulips lined the rectangular lily pond leading ones eye to the arbor where the couple exchanged their vows under rows of upside down tulips, and the California sun bestowing its warm glow. They enjoyed cocktails al fresco until dusk and slowly made their way into the adjacent ballroom where glasses clinked with wine cheer, and culinary delights awaited.

Want to Master Chic Camping? Here’s How.

I remember my first ever camping trip. No joke, it rained the entire first night and I woke up with a slug on my pillow. I was about five so I went with it, but if that happened today? I’d pack my bags and head home. Thankfully, glamping is a thing and if you plan your trip just right, it can be a smashing good time. Just take it from the folks at Camp Sunset—they’re giving us a few tips on how to make it happen. See more captured by Tom Story in The Vault!

You deserve a quality sleeping pad.

It will totally transform your sleep. If you have a spacious tent, a raised camp cot will also make for a super-comfortable night (or a nice nap among the redwoods).

Start planning and getting ready to go a week ahead of your trip.

Designate one corner of your garage or closet as your “camping corner”. Keep all of your camp gear there, and it will be that much easier to find before your next trip.

Take off your shoes before you get in the tent.

But keep them under the rainfly. That way, they won’t get wet if it rains at night.

Plan for happy hour.

You’re on vacation, right? Camp Sunset includes easy cocktail recipes, like Margarita 1, 2, 3, and ideas for quick appetizers.

This will be the meal that you’ll talk about for years to come.

Pick something that’s special but doable, such as pan-seared steak with mushrooms, or one of the other 55 recipes from Camp Sunset.

Know how to tell a good campfire story.

Enjoy this unplugged time in the outdoors, where everyone gets to be the audience- and the star. Get tips and topics in the “Fun in Camp” chapter of Camp Sunset.
