The Hottest Wedding of the Year – Literally!

Choosing vendors you trust is so important when planning your wedding. Not only are they responsible for bringing your vision to life, but they also keep things running smoothly the day of so you can enjoy your celebration to the fullest. Just ask this beautiful couple. They were in a long distance relationship on the East Coast while planning their California wedding, but their team of amazing vendors – including Koman Photography, Contemporary Catering, and Seniman Calligraphy – created the romantic, al fresco celebration they had envisioned. Then when a car caught on fire in the parking lot during the wedding day, the bride and groom were able to remain stress free knowing Wish Wonder Dream Event Planning was handling the situation. Guests joke the wedding was “lit” – and we have to agree. We’ve got all the pretty for you, right here.

From the Bride…Greg and I met as undergraduates during one spring semester at Cornell University. We were both Biology majors and taking many of the same classes. It turned out that we were also living in the same apartment complex at the time! He introduced himself to me in the parking lot after class one day, but I didn’t think much of it, being oblivious to the fact that we were classmates. A couple months went by until I realized that I had been ignoring him in class every day! I found him on Facebook, messaged him, and thus our relationship began. We bonded over our love of food and wine and had our first date eating our way through New York City.

Greg proposed during a vacation in Napa, one of our favorite vacation spots. We celebrated in our usual style by eating and drinking for the remainder of the trip. Greg is a PhD student who’s been living in New York City for the past few year,s and I am a veterinary student living in Raleigh, NC. Although we’ve been long distance for much of the 5+ years that we have been together, our relationship couldn’t be any stronger.

Since I am from California and we eventually want to settle down there, it only made sense to have the wedding in California. Our vision for the day was a romantic, organic vineyard setting with a touch of whimsy. When we first toured Triunfo Creek Vineyards, there was no question that this venue would fit our criteria. We chose a color palette of blush, sage green, ivory, and gold and kept the reception tables simple in order to complement the natural farmhouse feel. Despite us living in separate states from each other and from the venue, wedding planning came easy with such an amazing team of vendors. Greg and I experienced the entire day without any stress, even when a vehicle caught on fire in the parking lot, and we had to call the firefighters! Our guests like to joke that the wedding was “lit” and that it was the “hottest wedding of the year.”

Since food is so important to us, Greg and I made the menu a top priority. We had SO much fun creating a custom menu with the team from Contemporary Catering. We incorporated some of our personal favorites like French fries with curry ketchup, cheesy grits, and roasted Brussel sprouts. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about the food! We also honored my Korean heritage by incorporating soju into my signature cocktail and providing Korean rice cakes as part of the dessert selection. Our guests got to take home authentic wooden spoon and chopstick sets flown personally across the Pacific by my dad!

The real star of the show was our Corgi (aka Dog of Honor), Winnie. We decided not to hire a videographer and instead put a GoPro on her using a harness. The end footage is hugely entertaining, and it still makes us smile when we watch the video! Not only did Winnie crash some of our wedding photos, many of our guests used her as a live prop for the photo booth.

Of course, the day would not have been as wonderful as it was without the family and friends who were there to join us. We were (and still are) so overwhelmed with all the love we felt that night. My advice to all future brides is to enjoy every second of your wedding day because it will go by incredibly quickly and to focus on the special moments between you and your new husband.

This Inspiration Session will Renew Your Dreams of Becoming a Greek Goddess

Book me a ticket to Santorini, because the styled shoot held at the 2016 Boheme Workshop has convinced me of its incomparable beauty. The team at Stella + Moscha drew their inspiration from the history, art, and architecture of the location, focusing on draping fabrics and creating a color palette complementary to the striking setting. Suzanne Li expertly photographed the beautiful session, so please excuse me while I spend my entire weekend in this gallery.

From Stella + MoschaWe are more than proud to present these amazing images from the 2016 Boheme Workshop that took place in Santorini – a fine art photography experience led by the award winning wedding photographer, Vasia Han, and supported by a fantastic team of young professionals that creates wonderful opportunities for fellow photographers with inspired styled shoots, classroom exercises, and Q+As by internationally renowned guest speakers.

The inspiration for this ethereal photoshoot came straight out of history: The Hellenistic Period took over the Greek art landscape between 232-150 BC. Characterized by motion and transparency in fabrics, movement, and draping effects, this luxurious and sophisticated era was evident in the architecture, paintings, and sculptures – a prime example of this being the amazing Winged Victory of Samothrace. We fell in love with the truly unique gown by Christos Costarellos, which gracefully blend his boheme style with the Grecian art, the creamy peach, blush, and ivory colors, as well as the earthy decor and stationery details, flawlessly photographed by Suzanne Li and translated beautifully the period’s features.

From Boheme Creative Director, Tahnee Sanders… Taking in the Santorini landscape, I could see these ideas everywhere; the repetition of endless white stairs, the clean lines of the Oia architecture, the patterns projected onto the washed white walls through shadow as the sun moved around the island.

A Vintage-Inspired Wedding by the River

Although Susanne and Rich currently call NYC home, they chose a wedding day away from the city bustle and said “I do” in Alexandria, Virginia. With a ceremony next to the Potomac River, their guests enjoyed the best of nature while Elisha of Love Life Images captured the entire affair behind the lens. Filled with meaningful details and vintage-chic style, this gallery is one you don’t want to miss.

From the photographer, Elisha… Susanne and Rich are one of my favorite long distance love stories. They dated for five years while they completed their residencies in different states. Finally, they chose to settle down together in the hustle and bustle of New York City. Despite choosing NYC as their home, they were so excited to come back down to be with friends and family to celebrate their special day at River Farm in Alexandria, Virginia.

Susanne told me how much a wedding by the water meant to her as she always dreamed of being married on the river, and what better backdrop in the Mid-Atlantic than the Potomac! Susanne and Rich were blessed with some amazing weather on the day-of. The wind sweeping off the water and gorgeous clouds in the sky perfectly framed quite a few beautiful moments throughout the ceremony and during their portraits.

They had so many elegant and sentimental details tied into their day. Susanne was wearing her father’s family ring and had the rings of a couple of whom she and Rich admire tied into her bouquet. I just loved all the pastel colors, the vintage teapots, and their ombre cake. The day was filled with breathtaking moments and I’m so thankful that Susanne and Rich allowed me to document their special day.

For this Bride and Groom, it all Started with Ultimate Frisbee

After meeting at their college’s Ultimate Frisbee practice, it was all head over heels love and adventure for this Bride and Groom (minus a quick pit stop in the friend-zone). And that love was celebrated with a stunning Miami wedding by the sea. Crafted by RVL Event Design & Planning and Rodri Studio, it’s awash with classic details in the prettiest lavender shades. Pore through all the breathtaking ocean views and classic details behind this day so beautifully captured by Simply Sarah Photography, plus even more right here.

From the Bride… Joe, my now husband, and I have traveled around the world. We have been to Brazil, Morocco, Italy, Vietnam, Spain and more. We lived in a town in Miami called Coconut Grove where we had a tiki hut in our backyard. We have adopted pets together; I came into the relationship with a hedgehog, Charlie, and we adopted a beagle named Rosie and a fish too. But before all our grand adventures, first came a Frisbee.

Joe and I met at ultimate Frisbee practice in 2009 at the University of Miami, where we were both students. It was casual friendship at first sight. We shared many mutual friends, attended the same parties and played in Frisbee tournaments as far away as Las Vegas together without knowing what was in store. Even after our respective graduations (his in 2009 and mine in 2011), we continued to hang out as friends as we began our careers in Miami. We went on our first date in April 2012 and have had non-stop fun ever since. Falling in love with Joe was the easiest thing I ever did, which was helpful when we had to uproot our lives and move to New Jersey in 2015 for Joe’s career. When the time came to say goodbye to our Miami friends, we knew we had to do so in a big way. While running around getting ready for the going away party, Joe asked me to come help him with something in our backyard. Underneath the mango trees and next to our tiki hut, Joe asked me to marry him – or at least I think he did, because I immediately started crying after he got down on one knee. I couldn’t have dreamed up a more special and happier way to end our time in Miami. Miami was a natural choice for our wedding. It’s the city where we met and grew as a couple. Also, since I grew up in Detroit, MI and Joe in Fairfield, CT, our family and friends are geographically scattered. After about 10 months of long distance planning (shoutout to Ilse from RVL Events for making this possible), our hard work came to fruition. Our wedding day was a whirlwind and I couldn’t possibly choose just one favorite memory. Aside from getting to marry the love of my life, several standout moments include: a group of manatees hanging out in the water during our ceremony, the touching speeches given by Joe’s parents, doing the Jewish hora at the reception, and dancing with all of my friends and family who traveled from all around the US and even Europe to celebrate with us. I’ve never felt so loved as I did on that day and I will carry that feeling with me for the rest of my life! My biggest piece of advice to brides and grooms who are planning a wedding: don’t feel pressured to do every ‘wedding’ tradition under the sun – choose the ones that are special and fun for you. We skipped several traditions like bouquet/garter tosses and cake cutting, but the parent dances and hora were a must! At the end of the day, do what feels right for you both. Also, if you can afford it, hire a planner or at the very least a day-of coordinator. I would have lost it if I had to do all the last minute planning/confirming/coordinating myself and I was so thankful that on the day of the wedding, my only job was to have fun and let my planner, Ilse, know what Joe and I wanted to drink.

I would highly, highly recommend my photographer, Simply Sarah. I was very nervous choosing a photographer sight unseen and I was even more nervous that the first time meeting her would be on our wedding day. However, my fears were totally unfounded and after 15 minutes with Sarah and her husband — I felt like I knew them my whole life! They were professional but still very fun and easy going. She got our photos back very quickly, so we were able to look through them and reminisce about the best day of our lives while we were on our honeymoon!

From Brklyn View PhotographyFrom the very first moment Jessica met John, she knew he was the one. They met at a small bistro in Brooklyn Heights and quickly became exclusive. During their courtship, they spent a lot of time in Montauk, so when John proposed, they knew they wanted to celebrate their marriage in their favorite place in New York. The couple chose the stunning Montauk Yacht Club Resort and Marina for their nautical chic inspired wedding.

Jessica wore the most delicate and detailed Monique Lhuillier wedding dress I have ever seen. The intricate layers of tulle, lace, and silk fit her like a glove. She wore cream colored, crystal encrusted Manolo Blahnik shoes and carried her grandmother’s beaded clutch for her something borrowed. The couple prayed for good weather, and the heaven’s did not disappoint. Crystal clear blue skies and bright sun shined throughout their wedding day, which was the picture perfect backdrop for their outside ceremony. Jessica was moved to tears while reciting her wedding vows and John looked on with pure happiness that he was becoming her husband.

All Who Wander Events coordinated and designed their wedding, creating a seamless flow between events. Ava Flora created stunning wedding flowers for the entire wedding party, ceremony space, and reception. After the ceremony, guests were treated to a sunset cocktail hour outside on the lawn overlooking the water before heading into the Farm Ballroom for the reception. The East Coast Band brought the house down! Every single person danced on the dance floor, and the Bride and Groom were having so much fun that they didn’t want the night to end! I’m so honored and delighted to have been part of Jessica and John’s wedding day. I knew from the moment we met, I wanted to be their wedding photographer, and I’m thrilled to call them friends. Congratulations!

Inspired by Soft Neutrals, this Shoot is Finding Beauty in Simplicity

Soft neutrals are the inspiration for this shoot and a stunning, simple elegance is at its core. Designed and photographed by Retrospect Images along with beautiful, lush florals by Three Sisters, take a peek at not one but three equally gorgeous ways to style a tablescape plus a whole slew of elegant details too (including a lineup of almost-too-pretty-to-eat cakes by Just Delightful Cakery). It’s all sitting pretty right here in the vault.

Inspired by a palette of soft neutrals and delicate textures, this fine art neutral wedding inspiration shoot emphasizes that simple is elegant and highlights the ethereal quality of subtle use of texture and very soft colors. The Barn at Tyge Williams Cellars provided our neutral backdrop, where the light poured into the neutral space of concrete floors and ivory paneled walls. We set our table to be inviting to those who may come to gather- each item thoughtfully place. We then re-styled the same table THREE different ways- a table with a floating arrangement for a more dramatic look, a simple more organic look with a simple arrangement, rustic bread/carving board, and a floor table with pillows outdoors. From the cakes to the gowns to the stationary, we sought to curate ethereal stunning details with the right balance of simplicity and elegance.

Making a Frozen Lake Michigan Look Downright Gorgeous

Get lost in this winter wonderland created by Forever and a Day and captured by Kelly Sweet Photography. Set alongside frozen Lake Michigan, this wedding inspiration session features a layered, flowing Hayley Paige gown and a soothing, icy blue palette, drawing from the beauty of its natural surroundings. Yes, it is as good as it sounds. See it all in the Vault.

From Melissa Mathis of Forever and a DayI was inspired by a photo of a Finland sunrise over the lake. I was captivated by the stillness of the season and the soothing colors that came with it. I wanted this shoot to embody and resemble the calmness that comes with a sunrise. Traditionally, a bride on her wedding day is a reflection of someone who will become the stillness of a family, however large, who has complete control both in slow times and in chaotic times.

For this inspiration, I chose a light blush gown with a large layered skirt to mimic the flowing water. The bride’s hair was styled into a messy fishtail pulled to the side, and her makeup was subtle, made up of red-browns, peaches, and pale pinks. Lastly, I designed the bride’s bouquet to be full of texture with a flowing ribbon, not wanting to overpower her gown. I also wanted the the main focus on the bride, capturing her more as an individual, rather than a pair.

I added a simple tablescape comprised of gold chargers, china, and flatware. A touch of baby eucalyptus was added to each place setting to give it texture. The last added aspect was the hot cocoa bar with several toppings, which blended perfectly with the cold, snowy backdrop.

From Wendy Laurel Photography… Flowers are the theme of this amazing Maui desintation wedding. From the amazing florals in the bride’s hair, to the tables, to the different bouquets, it was a tropical floral dream. The wedding was at a gorgeous home on the side of Maui’s volcano, Haleakala which provided for breathtaking views of Maui as well as a lush green setting. Tropical local flowers — sourced from three local businesses and arranged by the the bride’s sister — made for a lush feel for the unique bouquets as well as the table and reception decor. The brides’ furry “brothers” were part of the ceremony and the family photos. All in all a dreamy location for a lush and tropical Maui wedding.

Boho Garden Wedding With Endless Style

It might seem intimidating to design a bohemian chic wedding day, but for Caitlynne and Joseph, it was all about letting the garden setting speak for itself. “We kept everything minimal and natural, so we didn’t disrupt the natural beauty of our surroundings,” Caitlynne said. With the prettiest pink protea and dahlias filling her bouquet, she looked every bit the boho garden bride, and you can see even more from the day by Ether & Smith waiting in the gallery.

From the bride, Caitlynne… Neither of us grew up with a vision of the “perfect wedding day” in our minds, so we focused on creating the “perfect typical day.” A Friday evening spent with all of our closest friends and family, with lots of dancing, yummy burgers, and our favorite donuts! We both love the outdoors, so getting married outside just seemed natural.

As far as decor, we wanted to blend in, not stand out. So we let the garden speak for itself. We kept everything minimal and natural, so we didn’t disrupt the natural beauty of our surroundings. And I’m not so great at giving advice, we’re all so different! But we didn’t get caught up in what is expected out of a wedding, we focused on what we wanted out of a wedding.

A Wedding Celebrating All the Good Stuff… Food, Family and Fall

When this couple approached Salt Harbor Designs to plan their big day at The Atrium in Wilmington, they shared their priorities were to embrace “food, family, and fall” – and that’s exactly what they achieved! They served a delicious, family style dinner and tons of desserts (including both cake and pie!) at long, communal tables featuring floral arrangements in classic, autumnal hues. Theo Milo Photography tells the story of the day from behind his lens, and we have it all for you in the Vault.

From Salt Harbor DesignsWhen Bret and Brooke decided to plan their wedding in Wilmington, they wanted an event that embraced food, family, and fall. They were married and celebrated afterwards at The Atrium in downtown Wilmington. Brooke is part of a traditional Italian family, so the couple decided to serve their guests a huge family-style dinner and more dessert pies than their guests could ever eat. Guests dined at two long, communal tables that were filled with candles and vases of orange and burgundy flowers. After dinner, the family danced and sang the night away, ending the evening with late night hot dogs before parading to their after-party a few blocks away. Brooke is a well-know patron of misfit animals, volunteering at shelters and serving as a foster parent for many abandoned pups. Rather than favors, the couple gave a donation to their local animal shelter.

Intimate Fall Wedding with a Family-Style Dinner

Fall brides, take note because this wedding is one day that’s guaranteed to inspire. With a decidedly autumn color palette and a picturesque natural setting, the bride and groom were able to wed in style with the amazing Rebecca Rose Events by their side. Ally and Bobby photographed the entire day, and these pretty captures are only the beginning. More this way!

From Rebecca Rose Event… Though they now live in Los Angeles, the bride and groom selected their venue, The Southeastern Center, for Contemporary Art, not only for it’s significance to them (the bride is an artist herself and used to teach at SECCA!), but also for the opportunity to exchange vows in front of the beautiful sprawling kudzu that they love! She grew up in Winston-Salem, NC so returning to the Southeast during the beauty of the fall season was a no-brainer.

The bride’s maternal family is from Colombia and the couple thoughtfully incorporated some beautiful touches of cultural tradition to their celebration. Guests dined on a family-style menu designed to feature tapas and paella that was served with wine and then danced into the wee hours to a variety of musical genres, including lots of salsa!

Romantic + Moody New York Castle Wedding

Stefanie and Ted are entertainers by nature, so they saw their wedding as an opportunity to treat their guests to a day they’d never forget. From the castle setting all the way to the karaoke afterparty, they made sure not detail went unnoticed, and we have all the images captured by Olya Vysotskaya.

From the Bride… Ted and I met online, which is such a crazy thing to say because I feel like I’ve known him my whole life! We are obsessed with entertaining and take it very seriously. Needless to say that when it came to planning our wedding (the biggest entertaining night of our lives!) the pressure was on to make sure that our guests would have the best time while still adding in all of the adorable touches that make us…well, us!

After our first venue fell through, we decided to get back on the horse and start looking at places not in New Jersey as we had originally planned. We borrowed a friend’s car and we headed into unchartered territory – Long Island! The first place we went to was a complete bust. We left deflated and were ready to call it quits. I reminded him we had one more venue and it was SUPER close so we should just suck it up and go. Low and behold we wind up at Oheka Castle. I don’t even think that I took one step inside before I told Ted “This is THE ONE”. Once inside it was a done deal.

As for the big day itself, it’s just like everybody tells you – it goes by way too fast, is a total blur, and it’s the most fun day ever. The wedding went off without a hitch and the love that was all around us was inspiring.

Of course, being the entertainers that we are – we couldn’t end there! If there is one thing I love its karaoke! Everybody I know said that the karaoke was by far the most fun thing they’ve done for a wedding afterparty. It got people dancing, singing and in an all around party mode! Once our time was up people hung out in the back courtyard of the castle and one of our friends even ordered pizza for us and the staff. We stretched out the night as long as we possibly could because we just never wanted it to end

These brides added their pop of color with amazing shoes that undoubtedly stole the show! Take a peek at our favorite way to rock your “something blue!”

8 Things They Never Tell You Will Happen When You’re Expecting

You can take the birthing, breastfeeding, and parenting classes and learn valuable information to guide you through the craziness that is motherhood – but we are unveiling eight things they don’t warn you about! Pregnancy is such a precious time and we want to make sure you know everything. And we mean everything!

EVERYONE WILL HAVE AN OPINION…. ABOUT EVERYTHING.

Although it mostly comes from those with good intentions, everyone has an opinion or suggestion for you. Whether it’s deciding between a home birth or hospital birth, breast feeding or bottle feeding, baby name options, and more, you will quickly find out everyone has a strong opinion. You should listen but at the end of the day you have to do what YOU want and feel most comfortable with!

SAY GOODBYE TO YOUR PERSONAL SPACE!

Trust us, you will need to turn into a security guard for your own body. From family members, to friends, to strangers on the street, you will have people grabbing for your growing baby bump without warning!

YOUR BODY IS GOING TO CHANGE, BEYOND YOUR BUMP…

Your boobs will look great, but they will be extremely sore. Your hair might seem to be growing inches overnight! Your skin will change — for better or for worse. Your feet may swell and get much bigger. Oh, and your sense of smell will be on overdrive. Try to embrace it all, that’s all you really can do!

IT MAY TAKE TIME TO BOND WITH YOUR BABY

Don’t get discouraged if it takes time to bond with your new little one. For some of us, it can take weeks or sometimes even a few months to feel that attachment. Don’t stress, you are a wonderful mom!

YOU’LL WORRY – A LOT!

It’s natural to worry, especially when this is your first pregnancy, but worrying will be your new favorite hobby for the next nine months. Is my baby healthy? Will my baby be cute? Am I ready for this? Should I be eating this? Am I going to have stretch marks? Just to name a few!

YOU SHOULD BE DOING PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES

Just trust us, this will only help you during birth and after! Here is more information from Fit Pregnancy.

PEOPLE WILL SAY AWKWARD THINGS ABOUT YOUR BODY

Again, this is all in good intentions but people will say some weird things about your body. It’s such a beautiful & crazy process so you can expect some beautiful and definitely crazy comments!

MOTHERHOOD WILL LEAD YOU TO SOME OF THE BEST FRIENDSHIPS

It’s an amazing thing to be able to bond on a similar experience and all us moms are in this together! Find your tribe, but also don’t be afraid to befriend women outside your typical circle. We all have something to learn from each other.
