Modern Americana Wedding Inspiration

What is not to love about this styled modern Americana wedding shoot, photographed by Emily March? Drawing their color palette and vibe from the local Independence festivities in Sonoma, this team of amazing vendors gave red, white, and blue a California cool twist by introducing copper accents, driftwood chargers, and indigo linens. Feeling inspired? Then head to the Vault for more!

Most couples planning a destination wedding in Sonoma are drawn by the world-class wines and breathtaking vineyard backdrops. If they dig a little deeper into the heart of town (or experience just one Independence Day parade – Sonoma’s favorite holiday!), they’ll soon discover the rich culture and vintage charm of this historic locale, not to mention a world of fresh wedding inspiration.

Playing on the red, white, and blues of Sonoma’s beloved Independence Day festivities, we created a timely nod to history with a Modern Americana theme in a palette of indigo, ivory, and copper. Set at the Maysonnave House, an intimate garden venue and cottage built in 1910 just a stones throw from the plaza, we let Sonoma’s heritage provide the roots of our story, while our team of vendors made it current with avant-garde details.

Encore Events Rentals’ copper bistro chairs and flatware glowed against the matte finishes of the place settings and the mali block print indigo table linen. The driftwood chargers referenced the California coastline, just an hour drive from Sonoma, while the minimalist dinnerware from Encore and modern cake stands from Cake Bloom’s newly launched collaboration with local ceramicist, Amanda Wright, offered the perfect juxtaposition of old and new.

In keeping with the theme, Petal Atelier added modern, sculptural details to complement the historic setting with a floral ceremony installation of locally-grown olive leaf, spiral eucalyptus, bay laurel, and delphiniums. Lush arrangements in ivories and blues contrasted our model’s fiery locks, and intricate textural styling using foraged succulents and air plants for Cake Bloom’s wedding cakes made them the focal point of the table.

The stationery suite from Bow and Arrow featured hand-lettered indigo watercolor invites and menus accented with a metallic copper script. In true Sonoma style, a witty chalkboard sign from Vine Country Signs invited guests to try some of its finest on the front porch overlooking the garden because, vineyards or not, this is still wine country, and wine was always part of the story.

Gold + Black Modern Wedding With Geometric Details

When Becky and Aaron began planning their Denver wedding, they wanted a day that truly represented their unique styles. One part modern and one part romantic, they mixed trendy geometric details with organic florals and pretty neutral bridesmaid gowns for a juxtaposition that totally worked. Rachel Havel photographed this lesson in risk-taking style and we think it’s one of the coolest galleries to ever cross our desks.

From Rachel HavelThey say opposites attract, and in Becky and Aaron’s case, that couldn’t be more accurate. Mountain man meets city girl and they fall in love. When Aaron tried his luck with online dating, little did he know that his first online date would be his last? Just a few dates in and Aaron knew he was going to marry Becky. As their relationship has evolved, they’ve both enjoyed getting a taste of each other’s worlds and adventuring in life together. They planned their city wedding for the Spring, where bold shapes and gold & black were met with natural garland & florals. It was the perfect juxtaposition of who this couple is.

A Painted Blue Floral Wedding Gown Adds a Touch of Whimsy

Let’s take a second to appreciate the painted blue floral beauty that is the wedding gown by Kate McDonald Bridal. Between that dress, the colorful and seasonal arrangements by Hana Floral Design, and the mermaid-esque Bridesmaid with her teal gown and romantic braid, we’re crushing hard on this wedding inspiration shoot captured by Maggie Conley Photography. See it all in the gallery!

The pastoral grounds of Mount Hope Farm provided the quintessential New England backdrop for our romantic, spring editorial shoot. This was our prelude to the spring wedding season! Mount Hope Farm has such beautiful, bucolic grounds – even their own set of sweet farm animals! And the weather was a perfect spring day!

We wanted to evoke a feeling of an English countryside but with a casual elegance we find so often of our Brides here in the Northeast. Beth Chapman of the White Dress by the Shore chose a beautiful, painted blue floral dress created by Kate McDonald Bridal. It was a stunning new nod to the neutral palette that is still trending today. Lynda Williams Beauty complemented the look with classic makeup and long locks on our model. The Bridesmaid wore a gorgeous marine green gown with her hair in a fun braid.

The table setting was a collaboration between Russell Morin, Exquisite Events Decor, and Hana Floral Design. We used a whitewashed farmhouse table, regency chairs, and a settee for two. Exquisite Events Decor framed the barn with sweeping white draping as well as a crystal chandelier. Classic gold rimmed chargers, clear stemware, and gold flatware were offset with accents of vintage floral china from Yumiko Fletcher’s (of Hana Floral Design) personal collection. Hana Floral Design created a lush floral tablescape using seasonal flowers with punches of coral, orange, peach, and pale blue. Peonies, sweet pea, fritillaria, hybrid delphinium, muscari, ranunculus, and french tulips were the focal flowers used throughout the centerpieces as well as in the bouquets. The invitation suite mimicked the dress with a floral envelope liner and sweet illustrations of the barn. All of it was captured so eloquently by the amazing Maggie Conley Photography.

A Summertime Staple for Effortless Cocktailing

Summertime was just made for margarita sipping. There’s no question. But instead of slaving away behind the bar at your next shindig, set up this super cute and insanely easy approach to cocktailing. Elizabeth van Lierde is sharing her quick tips for crafting a Margarita Station. I have a feeling, it’s going to be the most popular corner of the party.

From Elizabeth van Lierde… Want to know my number one trick to kicking off a great party? Have your friends make their own drinks! A DIY cocktail bar can be a fantastic way to open up the evening and the best part? It gives you a chance to get all those last minute things together without having to fill everyones glass. Follow below to grab my best tips for putting your own marg bar together for your next gathering!

Set the scene

Grab a bar cart or a simple table from your home that you can repurpose. For this we used my normal bar cart and added in a yellow side table from my patio. Chances are, you already have everything you need to create a “bar” at home! Before setting any party up I always layout what I have from my own crazy closet before I go out and buy everything I think I “need” at Target!

Texture and Color: Think table runners, throw rugs, and textiles. For this we used a patterned rug, a strand of papel picado, and fun baskets and crates. This makes the whole area look super inviting! It’s also a great conversation starter to get your guests moving and mingling a little.

Fowers are never a bad idea!: We added a decorative floral element by purchasing, then emptying (you can save the food in a separate container, or serve it at your party!) and cleaning cans of Mexican food like El Pato Salsa, and repurposing them as vases, with succulents and bright flowers. My go to entertaining decor is always always always fresh flowers! They are inexpensive and always add a pop to any decor.

Fresh Fruit: Lemons, limes, and grapefruit, oh my! Don’t be shy on the citrus. This is a marg bar after all. Cut up tons of citrus fruits for garnish, and don’t forget the salt!

Grab some juice: Make it easy on yourself and grab some pre-made juice. There are tons of organic and fresh options now. For the basics go with grapefruit, lime, and maybe a fruity lemonade if you have kids coming over. Throw them in your best pitchers or mason jars for a fun arrangement.

Did someone say tequila?!: A standard margarita has tequila and some kind of orange liqueur. Stock up on gold and silver tequila and opt for some Cointreau or Grand Marnier! To help your guests along, print out a recipe that you love for some guidance!

A Fort Myers Wedding With French Country Style

“Utterly romantic” doesn’t even begin to describe this Florida lovefest. Designed by Elleson Events with a French Country feel, it infuses a sea of neutrals with effortless elegance and too many beautiful moments to count. Hunter Ryan Photo captured behind the lens and you can start pinning your favorite details right over here.

From the event planner… On a beautiful November afternoon, officiated by the groom’s grandfather, Marlene and John said their vows surrounded by copious greenery.

Although a large wedding (160 guests), Johna and Marlene hosted what felt like an intimate European inspired affair beneath a canopy of trees in the semi-secluded Horse Creek community park.

John and Marlene love spending time outdoors, and their wedding reflected that. Organic, timeless details – from the soft green and creamy white invitations to the garden style peony bouquets, every detail had a romantic, soft, ethereal quality that also exuded effortless elegance.

Above the family-style tables hung greenery garland and glass globes that offered the perfect late night romantic twinkle.

The menu included meat and cheese boards, fruits, nuts, dips, and wine, as well as delectable dessert delights. Perfect for nibbling and grazing, while enjoying the canopy of shade offered by the park’s trees.

A Waterfront Wedding With “East Coast Classic” Style

This wedding is the perfect mashup of all my favorite styles – classic and modern, with just a little hint of nautical romance. It’s what happens when you’ve got a bride like Nicole with a great eye for style plus the ultimate Beach Club setting right by the water. Photographs by Caileigh worked her magic behind the camera we’re deeming this gallery one we never want to leave.

From the photographer… I was so honored to be able to photograph Nicole & Matthew’s wedding weekend this past September in Mamaroneck, New York at Beach Point Club. Matt proposed to the love of his life, Nicole, exactly four years to the day they had met. She knew he was the one not long that first encounter – he always knew just what to say to make her laugh!

Their celebrations began with a sea-themed rehearsal dinner and continued into an elegant, heart-filled wedding the following day. They said their “I Do’s” by the water surrounded by a 16-person bridal party and their closest family and friends!

[dotted]

From the bride… Matt and I were introduced in passing at a holiday party by our roommates, who were dating each other at the time. It was not until a few days later that Matt was able to convince my roommate, Bene, to give him my number. He quickly got in touch and immediately knew just what to say to make me laugh – soon after, we started dating. Matt proposed exactly four years after the day we had met while overlooking the Chicago River on a walk home from my favorite lunch spot.

Although we were living in Chicago at the time, it was very important to both of us to get married on the East Coast, close to both of our families. After a few trips out to visit venues, it was an easy decision to be married at Beach Point Club, where Matthew’s parents are members. Having spent a good amount of time at the club, we both just felt very comfortable with everyone there and new that any event at this beautiful location would be spectacular.

We were so fortunate to have help and input from so many friends and family members leading up to our big day. Both of our parents were dedicated to helping us realize our dream wedding weekend, our siblings played huge roles in making everything extra special and we opted to include as many of our friends and family members as we could in our wedding party. I had eight bridesmaids and Matt had eight groomsman plus two ushers, which made for lots of excitement, love and support around us on our wedding day. This truly made our entire weekend so special and was definitely one of the key factors in how elated we were with how everything came together.

Something that we spent a lot of time thinking about was the music that would set the tone for our ceremony. We really wanted each song to reflect our taste and personalities, so we decided to stray from the typical wedding marches. We were a little hesitant about this, but the decision led to what we each recognize as one of our favorite memories from our wedding day – my walk down the aisle. Our string quartet played Starlight by Muse and it was just one of those surreal moments when you experience pretty much every emotion possible. It really took our breath away.

Finding Fresh Inspiration in the Beauty of the Italian Countryside

From the smallest detail to the biggest, sweeping backdrop, every single moment shines bright in this European inspiration crafted by Kaleb Norman James. Wanting to add a fresh twist to classic Italian villa celebration, this team incorporated elegant stationery by La Happy, rich colors, luxe fabrics and the juxtaposition of muted pastels. That combo proves to be a gorgeous one. Watch the Italian countryside come to life through the lens of O’Malley Photographers.

From Planner/Stylist Kaleb Norman JamesI spent my summer’s growing up traveling through Italy with my family. From the rolling hills of Tuscany, to the seaside coast of the Almalfi, I always knew that once I started planning weddings, I would return here and combine my love of Italian culture, with my love for weddings. Not to be cliche or predictable, but our inspiration for this styled shoot was truly Italy itself. I wanted the colors to evoke something that felt rich and cultured, such as the intensity of the burnt orange velvet jacket & the embroidery of the vintage gown. But I also wanted to accent with softer, cooler tones, adding contrast, such as the neutral linens & soft pinks in the floral. The combo of the two looks felt reminiscent of the architecture of the buildings and landscape you see here in Florence. Some buildings are a rich red with aged stucco and plaster, while others are next to it are a pale, buttery yellow, covered in climbing wisteria vines. These two feelings seen throughout my travels were where I found my inspiration and what brought everything together. Imperfectly paired, to create an unexpected sense of culture and history. The place settings accomplished a similar juxtaposition, with the use of more formal gold rimmed glasses alongside of rustic, rough edged ceramic plates & bone handled flatware. One of my favorite parts of putting the tablescape together was finding the most of the details in the small shops and market’s directly in Florence. I spent hours wandering through market stalls and linen shops looking for the perfect napkins to accent the tablecloths & just the right locally made trays for all the fruit to sit on. We sourced almost everything for the table locally, to help create as authentic of a look as possible.

Romantic Style Inspiration for the Modern, Minimalist Bride

Modern and minimal yet soft and organic, this Bridal inspiration session by Bright & Co. Events manages to find the happy middle between these two seemingly opposite styles. All the details are just so good, but my favorite is perhaps the tablescape. From the one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces by a local artist and thin, dark taper candles, to the velvet tablecloth by La Tavola Fine Linen Rentals and sleek ghost chairs, you won’t be able to get enough! Luckily for us, Lora Grady Photography was there to capture it all, so head on over to the gallery if you’re as obsessed with this shoot as I am.

“Less is more” was the guiding principle for this beautiful inspired shoot in Seattle. We wanted to show that minimal does not mean simply bare with clean lines, but could be combined with raw, organic, and romantic elements to create something fresh. Lora Grady Photography captured the day so beautifully in her light filled photos and really took care in shooting all the details of what we came together to create.

The amazing floral design by Carey of Bleedfoot Florals effortlessly demonstrated both the structure and romance that we were striving for. We really wanted the flowers and tablescape to shine, so we opted for the always elegant ghost chairs as well as skinny candles in clear glass holders atop an ivory velvet tablecloth from La Tavola Linens. This created an amazing base for us to utilize. To really set the place settings apart, we not only used warm toned minimal flatware from CORT Party Rental, but we also paired the flatware with one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces from local ceramic artist Natasha Alphonse.

Libby Tipton handled the stationery for this shoot with expertise. The raw edge pieces paired with the clean lines of the invitation offered just the contrast we were looking for. Not to mention the color green she used for the place cards brought out the undertones of the handmade ceramic pieces.

The Sarah Seven dress from The Dress Theory that out model wore was able to punch the theme home even more. This dress, the “Del Mar” with its modern silhouette and open back, is the epitome of modern romance, and the ring from Trumpet & Horn complemented everything so well.

The icing on the cake – literally! – was the clean white wedding cake from Honey Crumb Cake Studio set atop a barely there acrylic table from Yay! Parties.

This shoot was about blending contrasts seamlessly, incorporating two styles for the contemporary Bride. This team came together and created something beautiful, fresh, and stylish all while maintaining lightness, brightness, and softness.

It’s Complete Romance When High School Sweethearts Wed

From her sparkly hair pins by Davie & Chiyo to the custom, lace off-the-shoulder sleeves of her gown, this Bride new exactly how to create a romantic bridal look. With the help of Weddings by Susan Dunne, this intimate Topanga wedding, photographed by Anya Kernes, was as beautiful as the Bride, who married her high school sweetheart. Want more romance? It’s all waiting for your here.

Romantic

From the Bride… Carlos and I were born in Los Angeles, California. We met in high school while I attended summer school at his school. Thirteen years later, we decided we wanted to make our love official and get married!

There was no question that we wanted our wedding to be outdoors. We wanted it to feel as if we were outside of the city, tucked away in a forest or canyon. We didn’t want to have everyone to travel too far, so when we found The 1909, we knew it was the right venue for us. The venue is a true gem.

The ceremony and reception took place at The 1909 on a perfect spring evening. The ceremony was intimate, and we opted out of having a bridal party. It was such a special day surrounded by our closest family and friends!

The dress that I chose for the wedding was a beautiful lace gown that had satin buttons down the back. It was originally a strapless gown, but I wanted to add off-the-shoulder sleeves to make it a little more romantic. I’m so happy I did! When I tried the dress on, I cried and knew it was the one. It reflected me as a person, and I felt so comfortable and beautiful in it.

I knew exactly what I wanted for our wedding and what all the details should look like. I played off of the venue’s natural beauty. I included a lot of greenery, and adhered to a peach, white, and blush color palette. Guests enjoyed lawn games and cocktails named after our dogs during the cocktail hour. My favorite part was the reception. We had huge long wooden tables that had green Italian ruscus, lemon leaf, and eucalyptus runners. Each place setting had a sprig of greenery and the guests name written on mulberry paper. Our sweetheart table was similar, but we added giant white balloons with greenery running down to add a fun element. The 1909 is so lush that you really do not need much. We had a beautiful al fresco dinner with twinkling lights hanging above us, shared bottles of wine on the table, and the croak of frogs throughout the night! Everything felt natural, not overdone, and intimate. It portrayed us as a couple.

A Wildly Romantic Wedding Under the Tuscan Sun

SMPers, meet Michele and Ryan. They’re a Florida-based couple who decided to take their wedding plans abroad, landing in beautiful Tuscany for a celebration their guests will always remember. They brought on the amazing Italians vendors like Linda Nari and Gattotigre to document their special day and we’ve got every last moment waiting for you below.

From the Bride, Michele… We first laid eyes on each other when my sister and I went out with her then fiancé and his friends. Ryan made quite an impression when he bought me a whiskey served neat because, “it was delicious.” It smelled and I imagine tasted like something I would clean my floors with. Being a shy guy, he didn’t ask me out that night but kept coming back to chat while keeping it cool and hanging out with the guys. A couple weeks later at my sister’s wedding, we saw each other again. He was shy at first and took a few drinks for him to come out to the dance floor. After a few more drinks, he finally asked me out on a date. He may have had a little too much liquid courage because when we saw each other again the next day at brunch, he proceeded to ask me out again! After only a few dates, he professed he was going to marry me, and he was right!

After I graduated from my Master’s program, Ryan took me on an Alaskan adventure to celebrate. We cruised through many amazing cities, but I was most excited about hiking the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau. We started with a helicopter ride overlooking the glacier. It was breathtaking and we landed to mountains of ice surrounding us completely. Even the guides stated it was the clearest and most beautiful day they had seen. There were bright blue ponds of meltwater so clean we were able to drink directly from it. While enjoying the stunning views on our hike I turned around to Ryan down on one knee. I was completely shocked! Truly one of the best moments of my life (now second to my wedding). He must have been sweating carrying the ring everywhere with him that whole trip!

I started the planning process and as we both live in Boca Raton, I was set to do the wedding in Florida. We visited venues, did food tastings and obtained quotes from multiple vendors. But I just couldn’t shake the idea of spending a crazy amount of money on one night, and it wasn’t sitting well with me. I wanted more time and more memories with my loved ones. In the end, we decided a destination wedding in Tuscany was everything we envisioned. Amazing food, delicious wine, and gorgeous scenery. Yes, please. I spent weeks looking for the perfect spot until finally, Ryan stumbled upon Gabrielle’s beautiful Casale De Pasquinelli near Lucca. It was perfect. It had everything I was looking for and enough room to have our guests stay together. The theme that I always imagined was “Rustic Tuscan”, and I wanted to be surrounded by nature and trees. I had my heart set on saying our vows between surrounding cypress trees and having greenery with simple romantic touches like candlelight. Luckily, Gabriele (the owner of the property) was such an amazing wedding planner for me that everything just came together perfectly and beyond what I expected.

We spent our honeymoon wining and dining around Italy. We started our tour in Florence, then went to Anacapri where we swam in the blue grotto. Afterward, we traveled to Ischia and relaxed at the Regina Isabella Spa and Resort, then we were off to Rome to delve into history. It was a nice balance of relaxation and exploration with endless yummy food and wine.

How to Pull Off Summer Wedding Glamour in St. Louis

There’s no better place to pull off glamour than the city. And when said city is St. Louis, it’s time to layer on the loads of sparkle like this fete planned by Kristin Ashley Events. From the Bride’s oh-so-twirly mermaid dress to glittering tables set in La Tavola Linens, there’s no denying this day is packed with pretty. See more captured by Waldron Photography over in the full gallery!

The proposal… Pat was a nervous wreck. Lisa wound up with a bad cold so getting her out of the house to go to lunch proved to be a much harder task than normal. Thank goodness for Starbucks! And just like that, off we were for a lunch date in Forest Park (where we had our first date) and then a walk with our beloved pup Gunner- one of Lisa’s favorite things to do. We sat on the patio for a quick lunch and then went on a walk. And then we started strolling hand in hand talking about… Life. Soon we turned a corner near a grassy area and Pat pulled Lisa aside and immediately got down on one knee, told her how it all started here at the boat house and he always knew she was the one… Then he asked her to spend forever with him and asked her to marry him.

(A friend from Lisa’s work later popped out of the bushes. I (Lisa) never wanted a proposal photo shoot and always wanted a very private proposal but thought it may be nice to have to have a picture one day of him down on one knee… So he arranged for this photographer-friend to hide out & grab a few shots. It was perfect. I never knew we was there until we were walking back to the car. The pictures we have are priceless)

Later that night Pat set up a very small, intimate engagement party for us with our immediate family members at our favorite neighborhood Italian joint. It was exactly what I wanted. The perfect cap to a spectacular day. Tell us about your beautiful engagement ring and how/why your husband (or the two of you!) chose it.

Pat designed the ring with the help of our jeweler Rich at Genovese Jewelers. I’m fairly sentimental and always loved my mom’s marquise diamond yet liked the look of an oval engagement ring. So with two completely different concepts, he worked with Rich to create a ring that gave me both. My center diamond is actually a marquise in an oval setting. Equal parts me and sentimental value. I never saw it until he proposed and was completely blown away… Not to mention emotional. My mom’s my best friend and my parents have been married for 37 years. It’s a nice tradition to hold on to.

5 Tips for Packing The Perfect Picnic

Summer is in full effect and with it, endless options to spend the long, warm days. Barbecuing and dining al fresco are all obvious options but did you know July is National Picnic Month?

O’Malley Photographers

Don’t worry if it’s been some time since you’ve packed a basket and hit the greens. We’ve rounded up planners to share their hacks for creating a gorgeous spread and seamless experience. Here’s what they have to say.

Upgrade your culinary experience.
Skip the burger and hot dogs. They don’t travel well and are better served right off the grill. Pack charcuterie, fresh fruit and roasted chicken for a picture perfect meal worthy of Instagram suggests River Roast event planner Hilary Saurer. Avoid boring side dishes like potato salad and instead, bring along colorful options like caprese and fruit skewers. The pre-portioned servings are easier to handle and make clean-up almost obsolete.

Set the tone with pretty packaging.
Maximize packing space, ditch the heavy dining ware and avoid having to clean plastic containers after by using disposable (and environmentally friendly) packaging. Christine Picerno, event planner at Cafe Brauer, recommends Pack’n’Wood supplies. The line has everything from bamboo skewers to mini wood boxes for sandwiches. It’s a simple way to elevate the dining experience from start to finish.

Dress up your set-up.
Take your picnic up a notch by focusing on the details. Bring along flowers which can be laid out or placed in a small vase. A patterned tablecloth or blanket goes a long way in setting the mood (ensure it’s big enough to fit your party, food items and then some). Opt for patterned plates and cups to add a fun and beautiful element to your picnic, says Hilary.

Go mini for dessert.
Stick to the personal portion theme. Individual, smaller portions are trendy, says Hilary. Bring along mini macarons, cookies, tarts and pies for guests to be able to try a little bit of everything.

Beautify your beverages.
Batch cocktails in advance to make packing easier suggests Hilary. A large container makes it easy for guests to share and serve themselves. Consider a glass receptacle for presentation points (think punches mixed with seasonal fruits or floral ice cubes for your drinks).

Make sure your booze-free option is equally as pretty (and tasty!). Christine suggests infusing your waters with cool and breezy flavors like strawberry, cucumber, lemon and/or berries.

And most importantly, don’t forget to leave your picnic spot in the same way you found it. Bring along a plastic bag to ensure you have somewhere to place your waste.

Al Fresco Florida Wedding With a Bohemian Flair

As Windermere, Florida natives, Skylar and Eric knew they wanted a wedding set back in their hometown roots. Looking for an organic, bohemian-style celebration they opted for whimsical watercolor invites, bright pops of color, and an overall casual elegance that made for an unforgettable day. Justin DeMutiis photographed and Brandon Kari Productions caught it on film; the fun is only just getting started.

From the bride… We are both raised in Windermere, Florida so we decided to bring it back to roots! Our wedding was surrounding the Town Hall of Windermere and the ceremony was be overlooking the lake we grew up on. I love the whimsical, botanical feel and wanted an organic vibe that felt more like a celebration than a wedding.

From the bride… Our wedding can be best described as a glamorous springtime wedding! While The Garden City Hotel is a luxurious and royal-looking venue, it was important to me to integrate beautiful flowers and springtime elements. I love everything about the spring, which is why we gave away wildflower seeds as favors, paired with homemade jam made by Etienne’s grandmother, shipped here from her countryside garden in the south of France! And the cherry blossom trees were in full bloom on our wedding day!

Our colors were purple, blush pink, peach, and gold. For our flower, we chose a beautiful array of peonies, tulips, roses, and ranunculus. My bridesmaids carried bouquets of pink peonies and the table centerpieces slightly mimicked my bouquet, which included all the colors of our wedding.

Our ceremony was very romantic, located in a dimly lit room with soft music and candles lining the aisle. Etienne’s best friend from college officiated the ceremony, and guests were handed glasses of champagne as they walked in to be seated.

3 Tricks I Used To Stay Present On My Wedding Day

If there’s one day where you should be present, it’s your wedding day. It flies by so fast. Savoring each moment allows you to look back on your wedding day years later with vivid memories, but I almost missed it.

Jen Huang

I was standing next to my husband underneath the altar at our wedding ceremony. Our 120 wedding guests sat quietly as we all overlooked the beach and felt the warm breeze roll over Lake Michigan on that warm summer evening. I held his hand as our officiant began his message when my mind started to wander. I quickly caught my wandering mind and pleaded with myself to stay in the moment.

I could have allowed my mind to wander and anticipate the moment we’d be announced as husband and wife. I could have giddily thought about our first dance or imagined how fun our honeymoon would be. I could have missed the special moment I was in by looking ahead.

Sally Pinera

Luckily I was able to take a deep breath and absorb the moment. I wanted to remember the message our officiant gave at our wedding, I wanted to remember the feeling of his hand squeezing mine so tight. I wanted to remember the glance I took as everyone closed their eyes to pray and feeling that surreal moment of being a bride.

It wasn’t my natural disposition to be still but for the sake of the most important day of my life, I used a few tricks and made it work. After two years of marriage, I can look back and say that I have those mental notes and images from our wedding day ingrained in my memory. Follow these three tips and thank me later.

Look Up
I know this should be so simple to remember, but it’s easy to get wrapped up in yourself… after all you are the bride! Remind yourself to look around. Take a peek at everyone seated at your ceremony when you’re at the altar, dance with your wedding guests, just pause and look around the room. This is how mental images are made.

Focus On the Senses
To help myself focus on my wedding day, I tried to meditate on exactly what I was seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and tasting. This forces you to stay in the moment and absorb each part of your wedding day. You’ll remember the sound of your officiant, the look on your spouse’s face when you walked down the aisle, and the joy that radiated through your wedding reception.

Delegate
Allow your wedding coordinator, master of ceremony, or bridesmaid to worry about the day. Hand the schedule over to them before the wedding and let them tell you what’s next. This will help you from being the one to worry about what’s ahead and just enjoy each moment.

It’s not our natural disposition to lose ourselves in the moment, but your wedding day is one you don’t want to blink through. Being present and allowing your mind to not wander will give you lifelong memories of the most important day of your life.

A Timeless Charleston Wedding for a Couple That Met in Grade School

Meeting the love of your life in grade school does not happen very often but for this Bride and Groom, the road to happily ever after began in the fourth grade. Their timeless Charleston wedding is the culmination of puppy love turned forever love with the backdrop of the sweet Southern city where they first met. With a mix of romantic and classic details, like the all white blooms by On a Limb, this heartfelt celebration is one for the books. Grab a front row seat to all the beauty through image after stunning image captured by Michael and Carina.

From the Bride… I met Christopher when I was 9 years old. He sat behind me in Ms. Thompson’s Fourth Grade class. Chris has little memory of me from this time but I remember him as the boy who said volcanoes were going to explode and destroy the earth. Needless to say I wasn’t overly fond of him. Ironically enough, when I moved back to South Carolina at 15, he again sat behind me in class. This time, he left a better impression on me and we’ve have been pretty inseparable since. My sister said it best in her rehearsal dinner speech; that every time she thinks of me in high school, college, or today, she can’t help but think of Chris too. The majority of my high school memories come from time spent at the Kennedy’s house: between the Christmas’ and Easters our families spent together to the chalk board city scape we drew in his room that’s still there today. I can still remember the butterflies I got the first time he held my hand walking up to his house and when he asked me to senior prom on his porch. We fell in love at his parent’s house so there was nothing more fitting than having our reception there.

Chris and I have very different styles and made sure both were represented on our wedding day, feeling the best way to do so was to show our individual styles through the details of the day. Chris wanted the day to be traditional and timeless and I wanted to make sure it had an air of romance and magic. I think you can see both of those in Chris’ black tux and my tulle dress. My favorite combination of the two were the garland lights hanging from the trees over the black and white dance floor. When the day finally arrived I couldn’t help but feel anything but an overwhelming sense of peace. I expected my heart to be pounding as I walked down the isle but it was steady; Marrying Chris was the most natural thing I’ve ever done and nothing could or ever will feel more right.
