How To Choose Wedding Jewelry You Can Wear Again

If you’re on the hunt for wedding day jewelry that you can wear long after the celebration is over, you’re not alone. We know it isn’t always easy to find pieces that can transition from the day to every day. So today we’re sharing the tricks of the trade on how to choose jewelry that works well with your fave cardigan AND your wedding dress. Scroll for our tips!

Shown Above: 1. Dew Earrings 2. Tiffany-Style Engagement Ring 3. East-West Classic Emerald Engagement Ring

ONE: CHOOSE PIECES THAT ARE CLASSIC AND TIMELESS IN DESIGN

We all know that you can’t have an amazing wedding day look without a fab lineup of beautiful jewels, but if you’re tempted to jump on the newest trend’s bandwagon: resist the urge. Trusting the tried and true is always a no-brainer when it comes to wedding day jewelry, and ensures you’ll still be rockin’ that bling in 10 years. Our tip? Stick with a stone you love, like our fave, the Nexus Diamond. It’s a diamond alternative that is super beautiful, plus we’re sort of obsessed with the gorgeous designs you can wear it in. And since they cost a lot less than mined diamonds, you can go bigger with your engagement ring or jewelry. (We love that.)

Shown Above: 1. Simply Bound Bracelet 2. Bound Within Bracelet 3. Marilyn Necklace

TWO: FIND PIECES YOU’LL BE PROUD TO WEAR

Saying “yes” to conflict-free jewelry is never a bad idea, and if your heart soars at the thought of wearing a patented diamond alternative, we say go for it. Not only will you be supporting a cause that is near and dear to your heart on your Big Day, you can proudly show off that bling for decades to come. Worried about losing the sparkle and shine that a diamond offers? Don’t be. Our friends at Diamond Nexus have you completely covered with a stone that acts and wears just like a diamond does, and even grades the same as a flawless diamond from AIG.

Shown Above: 1. Summer Breeze Bracelet 2. Cool Nights Pendant

THREE: CHOOSE JEWELRY THAT WILL STAND THE TEST OF TIME

Choosing a style that is timeless is one thing, choosing jewels that will actually last is another. Because if you truly want to wear those fab earrings at your annual New Year’s Eve bash, stay away from stones that will chip, discolor or scratch. We love Nexus Stones, because they are guaranteed not to… and they’ll even replace them if they do. Yep, investing in pieces that are high-quality and crafted by hand is key, especially if you can have them replaced if something happens to them.

Promotion

Our advice? Don’t reserve your fine jewelry for special occasions… rock that bling any chance you get. And most def start your search with Diamond Nexus’ beautiful line of jewelry and engagement rings for gorgeous diamond alternatives and high-quality jewelry you can actually afford. Visit them now and use promo code STYLEMEPRETTY for 20% off at checkout.*

*Promotion is not combinable with other sales or offers, excludes loose stones and clearance items, and will be valid through September 30, 2017.

Curate a Thoughtful + Practical Wedding Welcome Bag

Your out-of-town guests have literally gone the extra mile to attend your wedding. They’ve doled out extra funds for travel – and probably budgeted a little more for accommodations. All because they love you that much.

Here’s how to put together a bag that says “Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here!”

Jose Villa Photography

Pick a Bag
…or a box, or a basket. Whatever you choose will the base for your gift – and a valuable first impression for your guests. A simple canvas bag is always a great option. It’s a cute carryall for your items, and, the best part, your guests will be able to reuse it when they get home! Customize the bag with a fun slogan or a design with the wedding location. If your location is a beach or a winery, you could get creative with a pail or a small wooden crate.

Write a Note and Itinerary
Tell guests how grateful you are for their love and support on your wedding weekend with a personal letter. (Bonus points for handwritten cards.) Play tour guide! Recommend cute local coffee shops, your favorite lunch spots, and popular tourist attractions. Be a gracious host for guests who left their invitation at home (or aren’t up-to-speed with your wedding website) by including an itinerary for the weekend. Remind them where they need to be and when they need to be there. Ask an artist friend or a graphic designer to whip up a pretty design in your wedding colors for a pop of art in your bag.

Melissa Jill Photography

Shop Local
Give out-of-town guests a taste of the area with snacks from local vendors. Mix sweet and savory options – like potato chips at a Cape Cod wedding or peaches in Georgia. It’s a fun way to introduce them to the city (and keep them from spending a fortune at the mini bar)!

Offer Drinks
Hospitality usually starts with “Can I get you something to drink?” Whether they’re coming in from a long night celebrating, or a long day sightseeing, your guests will want water in their rooms. Save them from buying overpriced hotel bottles by including some in your bag.

Take your hosting game to another level by providing a location-inspired cocktail in your welcome gift. Think: a mini bottle of Jack Daniels with a Coke for a Tennessee wedding. Are you getting married on or near a vineyard? This is the perfect opportunity to include a bottle of their house wine. Your guests will toast you as they’re getting ready for your wedding or rehearsal dinner.

Add a Personal Detail
Think of something that’s so “you” and so “your fiancé.” It could be a grown-up coloring book you love with colored pencils, your favorite lip balm and plastic sunnies for the beach, or his favorite brand of golf ball and a tee for the country club. These little things will make guests feel more included and connected to you both on a personal level.

Evita, who co-owns Santorini Glam Weddings, shared one of her favorite examples. “The father of one of our brides produces his own olive oil in Greece. We arranged for him to send us a container of olive oil. Then we filled individual bottles with his olive oil and local herbs. Not only did it cost a quarter of the price, but it was also something special of the couple!”

Cure Their Hangover
Plan ahead for party animals! Add travel packets of pain relievers, so friends don’t regret that last glass of wine. This is a good time to remember items your guests might forget (and hotel rooms don’t provide) – like mints, sunscreen, or bug spray for outdoor weddings. The idea of this welcome gift is to help them feel more comfortable while away from home.

Plan Ahead
Odds are you can’t be there to hand out bags in person. But you should plan now for who can. Some hotels will work with you to hand out bags as guests check in or place them in their rooms in advance. Depending on the hotel, this could be complimentary – or cost up to $7 per bag. So it’s a good idea to ask ahead! If the service gets pricey, you might want to assign shifts to family or members of the wedding party.

Elise Hall Photography

A few final tips: Buying items in bulk will help cut gift costs. This will be especially helpful for destination weddings, where most guests will be traveling. Also, keep flights in mind. It’s more popular than ever to pack a carry-on bag for the weekend. So that cute, but bulky, pool float might get left behind if it won’t fit.

No doubt your wedding welcome bag will be amazing! And your guests will be beyond excited to celebrate with you. Remember, no matter where in world you get married, a personal gesture is always welcome.

Combining the Ease of a Beach Affair with the Elegance of the Big City

Don’t be fooled by this wedding’s beach locale. Despite a toes-in-the-sand location, it is all elegance and glamour straight out of a big city affair. And when you hear that the planked floors and sailcloth tented venue were built just for this celebration, it all makes sense. Designed by Cassandra & Company along with lush blooms by Shawna Yamamoto and the prettiest blue and white tabletop decor by Casa de Perrin, this is a Santa Monica beach affair to remember. Pore over all the gorgeous details captured by Jana Williams right here plus a film by New Classic Films below.

From the Photographer… Los Angeles native Laura Crane and born and raised New Yorker Brian Joseph, came together and simply (and almost instantly) became inseparable. They both knew they were in love after traveling to Australia after only two and a half months of dating. A mere six months later Brian, a stock-market wiz, placed his most important bet on Laura and proposed on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Since many guests would be traveling from NYC, the couple wanted the wedding to feel very “California” and a personal reflection of their life. They decided on a beach wedding at a private club in Santa Monica that’s a short distance from their house, and on a beach where they jog and take in the sunset.

Over the months of planning, Laura and her mother Mary, a fabulous interior designer with an unflappable sense of style, combined seamlessly with Laura’s consummate voice of reason and focus on thoughtful details. The tone of the wedding was set with a custom Save the Date, depicting the couple kissing in the bride’s father’s vintage car parked on Pacific Coast Highway. It was all about creating the juxtaposition of the effortless beach soiree and the elegant, big-city bash.

The venue was custom-built for the event with wide-plank hardwood floors laid on the beach, a billowy sunshade raised over the ceremony area, and two sailcloth tents (one for the cocktail hour and one for the reception) installed right on the edge of the Santa Monica boardwalk. The color pallete of ocean blues, aquas and navy came to life with touches of lavender interspersed. Knowing that the family wanted something stunning but tasteful and with a twist, meant splurging on the Casa de Perrin tabletop elements such as the gold Anna Weatherly chargers and mixed metal flatware, hanging a trio of wreaths made of greenery and flowers over the dance floor, and tying a hand-picked white rose to each lavender linen napkin.

Thoughtful details including a lush wreath with an event timeline, periwinkle macaroons tied with a lavender ribbon at each place setting, an array of options for dessert including two well stocked s’mores fire pits put everyone in the mood to celebrate, and finally a late-night treat of macaroni and cheese balls were passed as the band played their final set. As the evening wrapped up each couple was given a jar of chocolate sauce made from scratch by Laura and Mary, a recipe that has been in Mary’s family for over 60 years. Party-goers then moved up to the club penthouse for the after-party, where they snacked on sliders and mini corn dogs on a balcony with a view of the lights of the Santa Monica pier. The morning after the wedding, Brian and Laura opened up their Brentwood home and hosted over 100 of the wedding guests for a casual farewell brunch.

This Couple Survived a Home Renovation During Wedding Planning

I first need to give this couple a round of applause for their impeccably classic style—gorgeous aren’t they? And second, they deserve mad props for planning such a stunning day, with the help of Events by La Fete, WHILE renovating their home. Say what?! I can somewhat relate as my hubs and I purchased a new home the same month of our wedding. But to handle a renovation during the planning process is wild. And apparently their Big Day didn’t suffer at all—just one look at the imagery from Anna Routh and you’ll see what I mean.

From the Bride… Dixon and I met in Raleigh at Campbell Law School in 2011, and were pretty much inseparable ever since. We both practice law in Raleigh and work two floors apart in our office building downtown. We also live in Raleigh. As if wedding planning isn’t enough, Hurricane Matthew threw us a curveball in early October when a tree fell through our new house (we moved in about 11 months prior). This required 4 months of renovation, during which time we lived in an apartment with our new kitten, Jillian. We feel confident that we can survive the challenges of marriage if we can survive an extensive home renovation and wedding planning simultaneously.

I always dreamed of getting married in the Duke Chapel, and it was really a no brainer when it came time to choose our ceremony venue. I come from a long line (four generations) of Dukies. My parents were married in the Duke Chapel, and I was baptized in the Duke Chapel. Dixon has graciously welcomed Duke into his heart and embraced my love for the University, so he didn’t object to the Chapel as our venue (smart man!). Actually getting married in the Chapel was far better than I ever dreamt it could be. The magnitude of the building itself is enough to take your breath away, not to mention the soul shaking organ. Although most brides are probably most excited for the reception, I was most excited for the ceremony. Needless to say, it exceeded all expectations. Another special aspect to our ceremony was the choice of our officiant, Dr. David Burhans of Richmond, Virginia. He married Dixon’s parents at the University of Richmond Chapel in 1981, and has been very dear to Dixon’s family ever since.

The Washington Duke Inn as our reception venue was also a no brainer, and we really never considered anywhere else. My family, friends, and I regularly frequented the WDI while I was a student at Duke, and it has always felt like home to all of us. The feeling was no different seven years post-graduation, and the hospitality and elegance were exactly what we were looking for in a reception venue. The majority of our friends and family were able to stay at the WDI, which was great since convenience and comfort for our guests was a top priority. The Bull Durham Bar was a big hit for March Madness basketball updates and “after-party” drinks. Friday night’s rehearsal dinner and welcome party at The Rickhouse provided the perfect contrast to Saturday night’s formal elegance. We wanted a venue that was very “Durham” and The Rickhouse was just that with reclaimed wood and exposed brick from old tobacco warehouses in Durham. The venue overlooks the original Durham Bulls stadium, which was a nod to both of our families’ love for baseball. Dixon played through high school, the FOB played at Duke, and the FOG played at UVA. The décor included old family baseball photos, decorated baseballs, cracker jacks, Dixon’s old baseball glove, and a fantastic groom’s cake featuring red baseball threads from Edible Art. Our guests got the full effect, as they were able to catch the end of a live game from the patio. It was the perfect way to kick off the weekend.

From the beginning, we knew we wanted our wedding to be a classic, clutter-free, sophisticated black tie affair. We incorporated cherry blossom trees, candles, orchids, and white hydrangeas for a romantic, elegant, and somewhat unexpected twist. The overall goal was to be able to look back at our wedding photos 10-20 years later and not ask “what were we thinking?” To carry out this vision, our save the date and invitation design featured a navy, gold, and ivory palette, classic engraved script, calligraphy, and a gold beveled edge. Playing off of this color palette, we opted for navy tuxes as a modern twist to a classic staple. Bridesmaids wore floor length light gray dresses, which provided a stunning contrast to the navy, as did the flower girls’ ivory dresses and light gray sashes. Although not intentional (truly!), the wedding party attire complimented the color scheme of the Chapel’s stone exterior in the most perfect way. I chose a sophisticated gown by Austin Scarlett with clean lines and no frills. The Monique Lhuillier sash, Vera Wang veil, and lace Manolo Blahnik pumps provided just enough glitz without compromising the gown’s simplistic beauty.

Katie Dunn’s amazing room layout allowed us to creatively fit a lot of people into the ballroom, while also modernizing an otherwise traditional setting. The table layout provided the perfect framework to showcase Kelly Odom’s cherry blossom masterpieces. Another highlight was the escort card table in the gallery outside of the ballroom. Kelly was able to transform an oversized wooden table with white hydrangeas, acrylic risers, and massive glass candleholders. It was a head turning platform that perfectly showcased the classic beauty of navy calligraphy and traditional white escort cards. We modernized a classic five tier ivory wedding cake with an acrylic base, white hydrangeas, and romantic candlelight to bring the whole look together. The first time I talked to Katie, I told her we wanted a formal, but FUN reception/party. With her guidance, we created just that. There was constant energy throughout the night and the band never took a break, playing a variety of genres to please all ages. Their energy was contagious. The dance floor was packed, shoes were off, and drinks were flowing. It was just as we had hoped. We wanted to incorporate family heirlooms as a special touch. I wore my grandmother’s ring on my right hand and pinned a cameo to my bridal bouquet that was used by three generations of women before me.

We will never forget the moment our eyes met as I was walking down the aisle. We purposefully chose not to do a first look to make that moment as powerful as possible – it worked! We experienced a rain shower after the ceremony while finishing up photos. Dixon and I managed to stay dry, as did most of our guests, but it made the tail end of our photography shoot slightly hectic. However, the double rainbow that followed made any weather-related chaos completely worth it! Other favorite memories — Our “sneak peek” of the reception décor before the guests entered the ballroom. It was amazing to see all of our hard work and visions come to life. The ridiculous dance party and amazing band were also absolutely unforgettable. Listening to our loved ones speak so kindly of our relationship and marriage during speeches throughout the weekend was heartwarming.

An Enchanting Wedding at the Island of Gods

Bali is one of my favorite destinations – the pristine sandy shores, the rolling waves in the enticingly blue water, the sunny skies, the green rice fields, and the warm hospitality from everyone I met. So it’s no surprise this enchanting “Island of Gods” was the perfect choice for this Australian couple, who wanted to pay homage to their Indonesian heritage on their wedding day. The gorgeous photos by Axioo speak for themselves, so get scrolling, and if you find yourself packing your bags and booking a ticket to paradise after viewing the full gallery (which also contains their e-session), consider yourself warned.

From AxiooIt’s hard to underpin the secret of a successful wedding. But if one has to choose, it all boils down to one singular factor – the couple themselves. While all credits due must be extended to the vendors or the wedding planner, oftentimes it’s the couple who sets the wheels in motion for the making of an extraordinary wedding. The series of stills you’re just saw is the work of Axioo Bali through the art of film photography. So enjoy that uber romantic and surreal feel, while the groom depicted his own tale of what made his wedding, a superbly successful one.

From the Groom… Bali is an homage to our Indonesian roots despite our well-settled living in Sydney. It holds a special significance to us and the close proximity to our current home also weighed into the decision to have the wedding in Bali greatly. Still, the challenge of preparing a wedding from overseas was immense. It was only through the help of our friends back home and their experience that we managed to pull it off splendidly.

Our strategy was to rely mostly on first hand recommendations and carefully select the vendors who had provided their services to our friends, in one way or another. We trusted that these names were professionals who came highly regarded, and true to form, they delivered and more. The result truly spoke for itself!

The last hurdle of the day was the weather, but Bali is known for having year-round sunny skies. I wasn’t entirely worried about the drizzle that morning, and once it cleared up, it was smooth sailing.

Stephanie and I received the best of service from each vendor, from the venue to our trusted photography service, Axioo Bali. To us, the essence of a Bali wedding is about letting your hair down and having a good time. Thus we prioritized a wedding designed for eating, dancing, and interacting with friends and family. Our communion was a matter of enjoyable and relaxed celebration with our loved ones. And for everything that went so well, we remain eternally grateful to everyone involved, for their time, gifts, and well wishes. It was a wonderful day that was well-worth the hard work, and if given the option, I’d gladly do it the same way all over again.

Our Favorite New Idea: The Getting Ready Brunch

Take two of your favorite pastimes, say: getting ready with the girls and brunch with besties, put them together and voila—you’ve got the sweetest way to prep for your wedding day! Kaitlin of The Every Hostess and Amy Caroline Photography are providing the gorgeous inspiration for us today—from the table set with colorful blooms by Plum Sage Flowers to cutest bit-sized pancakes, a whole lot of pin-able pretty awaits.

From Kaitlin of The Every Hostess… The morning of your wedding day is just as important as the rest of the day. This is the time to wind down a bit, get rid of those wedding jitters and relax with your bridesmaids while you get ready for the big day! As I prepare for my wedding day this summer I have been thinking a lot about how I want these moments to go. I love the idea of a special brunch just for the bride and her bridesmaids to sit down to in their getting ready robes!

Equip with mini brunch bites from Three Tomatoes Catering such as avocado toast, pancakes and a delicious morning cheese board, this brunch is the perfect setting for the morning of your wedding day. For the table setting keep things simple with a soft color pallet of pinks and purples gave the table a girlish feel! I adore these florals by Plum Sage Flowers who perfectly incorporated this color pallet into their design. This brunch is the perfect opportunity to give your bridesmaids a gift for being apart of your special day. I love the idea of a box filled with goodies to spoil your girls from Kismet Crafter. Relaxing bath salts, sandals for dancing later, a water bottle to stay hydrated and a note telling them how much you appreciate them are all perfect items to incorporate.

Focus on being in the moment during this time and enjoy with your best friends! I highly encourage popping a bottle of champagne and a simple mimosa bar!

When an Art Director + Brewery Owner Tie the Knot

You might not immediately think of a brewery as a dream wedding venue, but for Kim and Scott, it perfectly fit the bill. As co-owner of Triple Crossing Brewery, Scott wanted to give his bride the ultimate blank canvas to bring her modern design vision to life and the result was a black and white lovefest with lush greenery woven into every detail. Thanks to Kim Stockwell for the photos that prove brewery weddings just might be the next big thing.

From Kim StockwellNestled near the heart of the city, Triple Crossing Brewery is home to craft beers, modern vibes, and Neapolitan brick oven pizzas. When Kim and Scott were planning their summer wedding they decided the brewery would be the perfect spot for their ceremony & celebration. Scott, co-owner of the brewery, gave his bride the freedom to customize their wedding to fit the space as well as her modern-meets-romantic dreams. Kim, an art director by trade, had a vision for the space that she spent months developing.

Their ceremony was industrial yet utterly romantic. The aisle was lit with candles & greenery as the bride & groom pledged their love for one another in front of a custom arch built by the groom’s father and executed perfectly by their floral designer Stephanie Murtaugh. The florals were modern with structured bouquets complemented by romantic, loose greenery. The Vera Wang invitation suite set the tone for their elegant yet contemporary black and white wedding.

After their first kiss as husband and wife, Scott surprised Kim with a barrage of little paper airplanes tossed by the guests as an ode to their love story. When the two first started dating, Kim confessed she didn’t know how to make a paper airplane, in which Scott spent their date teaching her how. From that moment on, every chance Scott had he would put a little paper airplane somewhere for Kim to find as a sweet reminder of their first date. Scott incorporated the paper airplane into his proposal and then spent days before the wedding making little paper planes for the guests to toss at the conclusion of their ceremony.

The celebration continued with an evening of dinner and dancing, followed by a sparkler farewell as the couple set off to their honeymoon in Dubai and Bali.

This Colorful Twin Nursery Was Inspired by a Vacation in South Africa

For Ozzie and Bart, the inspiration for their twins nursery came from none other than a babymoon trip to South Africa. The colors, the culture, the animals…it was all so inspiring, they scrapped their plans for a neutral oasis and turned to vibrant hues. Tour this sweet space shot by Maria Harte, catch a glimpse of little Nadia and Jacob and be sure to carve out some time for the video of the twins arrival. There won’t be a dry eye in the house!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/215746846 600 338]

My husband and I decided to travel overseas to South Africa for our babymoon to unwind before the twins arrived. I won’t bore you with the details, but let’s just say the trip left quite an impression on us. We were mesmerized by all the life, the view, the animals, and the people! As we started to plan for the nursery, our first thought was to create something in a neutral color palette. It wasn’t until we visited a local coffee shop and saw this colorful image of a giraffe with a bird on its nose. That’s where we had our A-HA! Moment. We wanted to bring all the color and life we saw in South Africa into the nursery. We contacted the local Chicago artist of the painting and commissioned two other pieces, an elephant and a hippo. From there I started to splash color everywhere! We tried to DIY as much as possible to make feel even more connected to the room. The ribbon art was custom made using old ribbon I had in my studio. The colorful numbers and pompons on the wall were an interesting hot glue project. The cactus garden gave me a prick or two, but it was all worth it. The last piece to go into the room was the rug which we are absolutely in love with. I know the twins only recognize shapes and patterns as newborns, but I cannot wait for them to feel the joy and happiness we feel when we enter their room every morning.

Where to Go for a Fall Bachelorette Party

September and October are some of the most beautiful times of the year nationwide. Leaves start to change, temperatures cool off, and autumn activities abound. After peak summer travel months, the fall can also be a more affordable time for destination bachelorette parties! Particularly if you and girls don’t all live in the same place or get to see each other very often, this is the perfect excuse to escape and celebrate together.

White Loft Studio

Vermont
Is there honestly anything more spectacular than fall in New England? For the crew that is looking for a more relaxing and low-key celebration, Vermont has everything you could need for an idyllic escape. Either rent a farmhouse or stay at a quaint inn and spend the weekend exploring the “Green Mountain State” while it bursts in shades of oranges, yellow and red. Take scenic road trips to tour the breathtaking fall foliage, visit farms to pick apples, drink hot cider and eat doughnuts, and then wind down by relaxing at an area spa. Check out the picture-perfect towns of Woodstock or Stowe, visit craft breweries in Burlington or hike or bike around Lake Champlain.

San Francisco and Napa
Want wine + culture? First, start in San Francisco during their “Indian Summer” when the city emerges from a summer-filled fog and comes alive during September and October. Do a walking tour of the Mission and Marina districts, see the Golden Gate Bridge and the painted ladies, and then sip rosé outdoors at some of the best restaurants in the country (make dinner reservations as far in advance as possible). At night, check out the bars and clubs in Soma or the Castro to dance the night away!

After your fill of the city by the bay, Sonoma and Napa Valley are just a quick hour-long drive away. Check in at the scenic Carneros Inn where you’ll get free bikes from the hotel which is the best way to explore wine country. Make sure you book your winery reservations a couple months in advance, as it’s harvest season and one of the most spectacular times to visit the area! Pace yourselves during the day because the valley has some of the best restaurants in the country for a yummy post-wine dinner!

New Mexico
If you want your bachelorette party to be centered around arts, culture and spectacular desert scenery, then look no further than New Mexico. Head to Santa Fe and spend your time relaxing at spas and resorts, touring art galleries, hiking rock formations and shopping at artisan flea markets. Be sure to save room in your suitcases for all the turquoise jewelry, folk art, and Native American home accent pieces! If you can, plan your trip to be there in early October, where you will witness the International Balloon Fiesta in nearby Albuquerque. A festival full of music and art, the main attraction is the dreamy sight of over 500 hot air balloons brightening up the soft desert sky.

Charleston
Visit Charleston for the best the south has to offer: amazing food, nearby beaches, a historic downtown, and tons of southern charm. In the fall the weather will still be warm but not oppressively hot, and you can rent a house either downtown, on Folly Beach or Sullivan’s island or stay in an adorable boutique hotel like Zero George. Charleston is a big foodie town, so make sure to plan ahead for group brunches and dinners to indulge in the southern fare. During the day, take a walking tour of the Holy City and see the adorable houses on Rainbow Row or at Battery Park, or hit the beach and then get ready for a fun night out. Charleston has a lively nightlife scene with tons of bars and clubs perfect for you and your girlfriends to have fun until the wee hours of the night!

The location was so fitting for the two, after living and dating long distance for a year they are finally reunited in San Francisco and together forever! Huong’s beautifully embroidered wedding gown from BHLDN and Derek’s dapper J Crew suit were the absolute perfect match for the stone architecture and golden embellishments of SF City Hall. We spent time before and after the ceremony exploring all the different floors, halls, and grand staircase before we headed for portraits at their reception venue (which was the floral shop that did their florals for the day!) A tiny and super cute floral shop in a San Francisco alley not only crafted their blooms but also hosted their intimate reception after the wedding and made for an amazing backdrop for more couple’s portraits! It was the perfect tie-in for their day and made for a celebration filled with San Francisco elegance and charm!

From Esther Sun PhotographyLocated in a small town, Chateau du Grand-Lucé, is the perfect venue for a celebration outside of Paris. Inspired by the beautiful architecture and landscape of Chateau du Grand-Lucé, we wanted to set an intimate wedding for the couple who appreciates old world charm. Every room in the Chateau told a story and the gardens took you back in time showing off its rich history. We chose a color palette of blue, gray, and white to balance the natural surroundings. We set the dinner under the trees that lined a path leading to the lower gardens. This set up was perfect as the guests could enjoy the view of the Chateau as well as the surrounding gardens.

A Destination Wedding That Totally Embraces Tropical Flavors

Talk about embracing the local flavors. This destination wedding coordinated by VOWS went far beyond your typical Maui celebration and opted for a backdrop at Punakea Palms, a Hawaiian coconut farm. The views are magnificent and the refreshing coconut sips are too.  Take a mini island vacay through the pretty, pretty images by Jana Dillon.

From the Photographer… After meeting through mutual friends, Cristina and Peter found a connection through their adventurous spirits. In celebration of their connection through travel, food and memories, they found Maui to be the perfect location for their wedding to share some of their favorite activities with their friends and family to enjoy together. The couple enjoyed a traditional catholic service at the Maria Lanakila Catholic Church, ending with a beautiful night under the stars at a local coconut farm where they were surrounded by ocean views and the majestic West Maui mountains.

6 Ways to Stop Stressing and Start Having Fun With Wedding Planning

If you’re already in the midst of wedding planning, you know that sometimes it can be quite stressful. Between the constant decision making and the endless to-do lists, you may feel like you’re in over your head more than once throughout the wedding process. But planning a wedding should be fun! Here are six ways to make the planning just as exciting as the main event.

Leigh Pearce Events

Reward yourself for completing tedious tasks
Finally book your florist? Pop that bottle of bubbly! (Note: always have a spare bottle of champagne during the planning process). Or treat yourselves to your favorite take-out while putting your invites together. Having something to look forward to after not-so-exciting tasks will make them much easier to enjoy.

Leigh Pearce Events

Focus on things you love and delegate the rest
“If picking out music stresses you out, assign it to your soon-to-be spouse,” says Leigh Pearce, owner and creative director of Leigh Pearce Events. “If you don’t know a peony from a petunia, ask your mom to tackle the flowers.” Delegating tasks that you’d rather avoid will not only make you happier but let you focus on the things you actually love doing.

Make it a date night
Instead of picking your music selection at home in your PJ’s, head to a restaurant with live music to get you in a harmonious mood. Making decisions in a happy, upbeat environment will make it easier and may even give you some inspiration.

Get your friends and family involved
If your family is involved in the planning, Leigh Pearce recommends setting a dinner to go through logistics. “Have a seating chart dinner party with your soon-to-be spouse and parents so you can knock it out in just a few hours vs. a million text messages,” she says. You can also enlist your bridesmaids to help with DIY projects during a girl’s night—just don’t forget the wine and pizza!

This Love Of Yours Photography

Turn it into a competition
Challenge your fiancé to a “stamp off” and see who can stamp the most envelopes. Or invite friends over and challenge your besties to a centerpiece-making competition. Whatever you decide to do, there are endless ways to turn the planning into a game, making it more fun for everyone involved.

Remember what it’s all about
Any bride or bride-to-be can attest to the fact that planning a wedding isn’t easy. If you start to feel frazzled, a wedding planner is always a great option. “Having someone to guide you through the whole process will leave room for way more fun,” says Pearce. But, whatever way you choose to organize, never fail to remember you’re planning the best day of your life—and it will be so worth it.

Re-create this Color Palette for Your Summer Wedding

If I’m being completely honest? Yellow has always been my least favorite color—up until today, that is. I might not be a fan of this hue solo, but when it’s paired with mauve, blush and peachy orange, it’s a winner in my book—and perfect for summer soirees if you ask me. With Sweet Emilia Jane at the design helm and J. Lee Photos behind the lens, I challenge one of you to re-create this gorgeous palette for your warm weather day!

This Summery Texas Wedding Knew What Mattered Most

This couple, who have been friends since junior high, knew exactly what mattered most for their wedding weekend. First, they chose a special venue, Perkins Chapel, where the Bride’s parents married 27 years prior. Second, they asked one of their close childhood friend to officiate the ceremony. Finally, they wanted the reception to be enjoyable for their guests, many of whom had traveled all the way from Taiwan and Argentina for this weekend. Stephanie Brazzle Photography was behind the lens during this pretty and summery nuptials, so head on over to the Vault to see the rest of the photos!

From the Bride… Josh and I have been friends since junior high, and I always knew our wedding day would be special because we have shared so many experiences with our mutual friends and family members over the years. When planning our wedding, we weren’t too keen on sticking to a theme. However, we knew a few details would make the day truly memorable – getting married in Perkins Chapel like my parents did 27 years ago, having one of our close childhood friends officiate the ceremony, and making the reception one that would be worth the many hours our guests that had traveled from Taiwan and Argentina.

Since both of our venues (Perkins Chapel and The Room on Main) had a very classic and airy feel to them, I wanted our color scheme and decor to reflect the season and my love for all things summer. Shades of pink and peach popped in our vibrant green florals, and aqua and cobalt were picked up in our Jenny Yoo Bridesmaids’ gowns and the ginger jars that adorned our tables.

While our vendors did a wonderful job of making everything a total vision, I have to say our biggest joy was simply the experience. No detail went unnoticed, and we were able to breathe and enjoy every second of the day we had waited so long for! All of the moments I will forever remember are a perfect reflection of the things we enjoy as a couple. From my giddy grandmother sharing her wonderful jewelry collection with me as I got ready, to Josh being able to relax with his friends and uncles at the Hotel Lumen pool before the wedding, to being able to laugh with my friends as we were pampered by our amazing hair and makeup artists. It truly was the happiest day ever. Both Josh and I agree that there was no better feeling than watching all of our friends and family members break it down on the dance floor, many with silly glow in the dark accessories on their heads and Steel City Pops in hand.

Our summer celebration was everything I could have ever wished for – our favorite people together in one place, enjoying good music and laughing as we started our new life together.

This Might Be the Best Dessert Table of All Time

Where to even begin with this absolutely gorgeous gold and blush destination wedding planned by Italia Celebrations in Rome? The ceremony took place in an ancient cathedral dating back to 340 A.D., the reception was held at a superb castle from the 1300s, and the Bride looked spectacular in her Vera Wang gown. All of this! was expertly captured by Sandra Åberg Photography and Evergreen Film. But the pièce de résistance was the dessert table, featuring a custom designed cake and many decadent confections, all set in front of 24 feet of hanging orchids and beneath two chandeliers.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/214207544 600 338]

From Brenda Babcock of Italia CelebrationsI met Jessica and Joshua over Skype one year before their wedding, and in that time, they never came to Rome. We planned the many details, large and small, over the internet and Skype. Jessica had a color palette at the ready that she was very excited about, and it was a driving factor in the planning of almost everything having to do with the wedding. From the photos you can see how cohesive and coordinated everything was around blush pink, rose pink, rose gold, yellow gold, and ivory.

Jessica and Joshua were married in one of the most spectacular cathedrals in all of Catholicism, Santa Maria in Trastevere. The church is one of the oldest in Rome, and the foundations date back to the year 340 A.D. although most of what you see now is from the 1200s, including the jaw dropping mosaics. The wedding was officiated by Cardinal George Pell from the Vatican, which was a great honor. After the ceremony, the couple made their getaway in a 1960s Jaguar convertible two seater with a vintage Vespa escort leading the way.

The reception was at Castello di Torcrescenza in Rome. It is a beautifully preserved castle from the 1300s where the Count and his family still live today. The castle is already beautiful, but we took it up a few notches. All the dinner and buffet tablecloths were sequined in shades of blush, rose gold, and yellow gold. The favors were small, hand-painted ceramic boxes wrapped in custom made blush pink sateen pouches, which sat beautifully on rose pink colored Richard Ginori plates.

The pièce de résistance was probably the stunning dessert table. A 24 feet wall of hanging strands of orchids, two chandeliers, a fabulous custom designed cake, cake pops, cookies, and all sorts of fancy confections came together in a way that would have made Marie Antoinette proud.

Blush pink and twinkling lights were the inspiration and order of the day. And what a day it was! Tanti auguri (best wishes), Jessica and Joshua. May this be the beginning of a very happy lifetime together.

There are several key factors that come into play when you’re trying to achieve dreamy e-sesh captures… finding a photographer you love and feel comfortable with, curating your style, and scouting that perfect location. The latter being what this sweet couple made the trek for, from Texas to California. They of course, nailed the fashion and beauty with TEAM Hair and Makeup and chose to work with the incredible Rebecca Yale to boot, so the results are dishing out all the heart eyes.

From Rebecca YaleAlex and Chris came all the way from Texas to California to photograph their beautiful Spring engagement session in the beautiful rolling hills of Santa Barbara and Santa Ynez. Alex chose four incredible outfits, a mix from casual to gowns to perfectly suit the gorgeous backdrop of Central California. We began the session in the Santa Barbara botanical gardens exploring the redwood grove and fields of white flowers. Next we headed over to Santa Ynez to photograph in the beautiful Sycamore Allee among the giant live oaks at Kestrel Park.

Tips For Styling The Perfect Patio for Summer Nights

Summer’s in full swing but maybe you’re like me and you haven’t gotten around to fully setting up your outdoor space. It may be mid-July, but there’s still enough time to create a dream oasis to enjoy the remaining long, warm summer nights.

For guidance, I tracked down Liz Klafeta, Founder and CEO of BANGTEL, after attending a party at one of her properties where guests couldn’t stop talking about the uniquely styled backyard. Here’s what she has to say.

Begin with a theme.

“Choosing a theme will help you pinpoint a certain style,” says Liz. “It’ll also help you fill in the design blanks more easily.” Liz explains how choosing a Southwest Style for her Logan Square location in Chicago created a space where guests wanted to hang out in (a must if you love to entertain). Picking a theme allowed her to choose statement decor pieces that includes a real teepee from an Indian reservation that guests can’t help but Instagram.

Can’t settle on a theme? Think of what you have in your home and consider your patio as an extension of that look. Still stuck? Guide yourself by color. “You can never go wrong using black and white with pops of red,” adds Caitie Smithe Jisa, Walter E. Smithe designer. “It’s a timeless, stunning look.”

Esther Sun

Next up is the lights.

Globe string lights are a favorite for Liz. “It totally transforms the yard and mood,” says Liz. “Lighting is everything, especially at night.” Be cognizant of the distance from the outlet to the connection. If you want to avoid a running line of extension cords or don’t have an outlet nearby, consider battery-operated lights.

Don’t forget the floor.

Add dimension to the space by livening up the flooring (which pulls your eye to a different part of the space) says Liz. An outdoor rug (like this one) does the trick but consider something more creative like a design painted right on (think Aztec motif, colorful geometric shapes or keep things simple with alternating lines of color). If you’re looking for something that’s all weather, a vinyl rug is a great option.

When He Found Her

Plan for plants.

If you want to avoid continuously buying plants year round, consider buying fake ones. Cactus and agave plants look great and the plastic option frees up your budget to spend on decor. They also hurt less than the real thing, should you bump into the prickly plant. They look amazing and last a long time says Liz.

Let your personality dictate your furniture choices.

When it comes to buying outdoor seating, Caitie recommends asking yourself ‘how do you like to entertain?’ If you prefer large gatherings then maximize seating. Outdoor sectionals are perfect option for this she says. For intimate gatherings with a small group of friends, pick up something circular like a cocktail table or fire pit to bring everyone together. If you love a table and it’s too small, don’t be afraid to buy two pieces and assemble as you see fit. It’s what Liz did to create seating for 12, and according to the experts, the following weeks are the perfect time to snatch up marked down items.

Ruth Eileen

The most important part is to have fun mixing and matching items that fit your style and how you entertain. The perfect place is wherever good friends and laughter gather.
