9 Questions to Ask at Your Wedding Cake Tasting

The sweetest part of wedding planning is the wedding cake tasting. It’s also one appointment your groom is equally excited about!

While this is the time to debate the champagne-vs-strawberry filling (and I can totally see his point about having a chocolate cake layer), there are a few key pieces of information you need to gather from the baker.


What are my flavor/filling options?
They might not include every flavor and filling option in their preset tasting. Check if they have a list of all their flavors and fillings – and see if they’re willing to mix and match. Is there another flavor you wanted to try? Will it cost extra to add a layer of strawberry cake in the middle?


Do you work with buttercream or fondant?
Some bakers specialize in fondant, some prefer buttercream. And some design with both. If you love a certain type of frosting, you should confirm before signing on the dotted line.


Can you make sugar flowers? Will you work with my florist if I want fresh flowers?
It’s amazing what some bakers can do with a cake! They’re true artists. If you’ve fallen head over heels for a certain design, ask if they can recreate it on your cake. If you’re planning to incorporate flowers or greenery, confirm they’re willing to work with your florist (most will).


Do you have a portfolio I can look through?
This is a chance to check their background and get a feel for their design skills. Make sure the vendor baked the actual cakes in the pictures. You’d hate to fall in love with a picture from Pinterest they’ve never even tried to make!


Are you licensed and insured?
Most venues will require the wedding cake vendor to be insured by the state and the health department. It’s a good idea to check that box early, especially if they’ll be delivering your cake the day of the wedding.


What’s your delivery process?
Ask how much time they need to set up at the reception venue and if they charge an extra fee for delivery. You’ll also want to see if they’ve delivered to that venue before. That way they’ll already know if there are any special instructions (like freight elevators or a catering kitchen for touch-ups) before the day of your reception.


Do you rent cake stands/toppers?
Some vendors include day-of cake stands and toppers at no additional charge. If you need to rent a topper, cutting knives, serving utensils, etc., find out their pricing and when/how they need to be returned. If they have a relationship with the venue (see above), they’ll often work with them directly to retrieve the items.


How can I maximize my budget?
Some vendors price by the serving, some by the layer, and still others by the flavor/filling combination. Now’s the time to talk through pricing – and how to get what you want in the price point you need.


Does the price include the top tier?
A lot of vendors include the top tier (the tier the bride and groom usually freeze for their first anniversary) at no cost. But that’s not always the case. Find out their policy – and whether they’ll include a box to take it home.

Note: You’ll want to order your cake 6-8 months prior to your wedding date. If you or someone close to you has a food allergy, you might also want to do an ingredient check while you’re there. Maybe they’ll throw in a special cupcake for your gluten-free bridesmaid…

This Couple Found Their Wedding Location Serendipitously

Frustrated with the process of choosing a location for their wedding, this couple decided to take a much needed Italian getaway to relax and reconnect. It was during their time abroad that they stumbled upon the gorgeous Lake Como area in a moment that could only be described as pure serendipity – they booked Lake Como’s Villa d’Este and everything else began falling into place. Add to this an incredible team of wedding professionals including Elena Pensini Events and Concierge, Figli Dei Fiori, and Oliver Fly Photography, and this sophisticated, destination affair is something out of a wonderful dream.

From the bride… Nicholas and I visited Italy to get our minds off of wedding planning as we could not decide on a destination for our celebration. After spending time in Milan and Venice, we ended up in Lake Como and absolutely fell in love! The Villa d’Este Hotel is such a magical spot – you instantly feel as though you’re transported back in time. However, it wasn’t until we returned back home to Palm Beach that we knew Lake Como was the destination we had been searching for.

I flew back a few weeks later to scout venues and meet with wedding planners and ended up choosing to stay on property at the hotel. I wanted to keep all the details very simple as the lake has so much natural beauty, and the venue has so many grand features between the famous Mosaic Garden and the Gatsby-like chandeliers. Figli Dei Fiori, a local flower shop in Como, did an amazing job pairing beautiful flowers (lots of lush hydrangea – the flower of Lake Como!) and hundreds of candles to create an elegant and romantic feeling. I designed all the invitations, programs, and menus, incorporating wax seals and calligraphy to mimic the old world atmosphere of Villa d’Este.

I went to almost every wedding boutique in NYC and Miami searching for the perfect dress. I was very close to designing my own when I found my Naeem Khan dress at Ever After in Miami. It was perfect, and I could customize it to have everything I was looking for in a dress!

Nick and I did a first look a few days before the wedding and took out a beautiful wooden Riva boat on the lake. I was hesitant to wear my dress and have the groom see it before walking down the aisle, but it was one of the best decision we made!

One of our favorite wedding moments was the first dance. We learned and choreographed a dance to “Fly Me to the Moon” with lots of spins and dips! The biggest surprise of the night was the wedding cake – it was so big, it took 4 servers to carry it out!

From Elena Pensini EventsA sweet couple from Miami, the most glamorous venue la Villa D’Este, and Lago di Como…. I had all the best ingredients to create an exclusive and elegant event. When Katherine asked me my thoughts on a color palette, we agreed that light blue and gold would be the right choice – blue with its elegance and gold with its bright sophistication.

Working with Katherine on the wedding stationery has been an unforgettable experience, as well the exciting exchange of ideas while planning. The wedding was sophisticated as the final result of “mise en place”. Everything was lit by the glow of candles and the spectacular chandeliers of the Impero room. Blue delphinium, velvet ribbon, a touch of china, gold wax monograms, the most surprising wedding cake entrance ever, and lots lots of fun – all of that was Katherine and Nicholas’s wedding at the impeccable and unique Villa d’Este.

Thanks to the great work by Oliver Fly, today, looking at these stunning pictures, I can say we achieved what Katherine told me she was looking for during our first meeting while drinking a cocktail on the terrace at Villa d’Este – “something that POPS!”

This is What a Couture Gown from Tel Aviv Looks Like

With a couture gown crafted by Israeli designer Izik Amir in tow, this London couple met 114 of their loved ones in Puglia for a stunning wedding week. Alfresco everything was on the agenda and the result is a destination celebration set among 100 year old olive groves with planning by Impression Villas & Weddings and images by Nastia Vesna & Maksim Gladky. From the Bride and Groom… We were so in love with Italy and all we could ever imagine from the day we got engaged in Capri was getting married somewhere in this beautiful country! The day itself was always going to be a culmination of summer, bougainvillaea and nothing but complete utter love. We envisioned a modern wedding, not compromising on traditional aspects we knew it would mean the world to us and our families.

The wedding week leading up to the day itself was everything we could have ever hoped for. Bringing together 114 friends and family in Puglia across several events will forever be a highlight of our lives. We began the search for a wedding location early on in our engagement. We knew we wanted something spectacular yet intimate. Stumbling on Masseria Pettolecchia La Residenza was game-changing. It offered an intimacy on the expansive private grounds which was just perfect for our special day. The dazzling villa, which we enjoyed with our bridal party for a week before the wedding, is surrounded by hundreds’ year old olive groves and acres of golden land. The property fits perfectly with our style and vision. It truly was an exceptional find and set the scene for the rest of the planning! We decided on an early evening, black tie wedding. Our vision – modern elegance. We incorporated white and green florals and high low glass vases of floating candles. Finishing with accents of gold, white and touches of black. The vision was sophisticated – but the celebration was light-hearted, relaxed and incredibly fun! The wedding itself started with an upbeat Italian band signing all the favourites and moved on to a DJ taking everyone to the dancefloor until the early hours. Flowers: Speaking of the flowers, those were crisp and elegant. Orchids, white roses, green and white hydrangeas & tulips

Dress: The gown was entirely handcrafted by Israeli designer Izik Amir. It took two trips to Tel Aviv, one to select the dress and the second for final alteration and bringing it home to London. The way it sparkled, the sheer lace covered in thousands of beads, the way it moved, the way it fit – it is undoubtedly the best dress of my life!

Cake: we went with a traditional Italian layered cake. Which almost toppled over when we went to cut it! The cake was complemented with a generous dessert table with an array of delicious sweets and fruit for our guests. Greatest memories:

Bride: my favourite moment would have to be the magic of the vows, the moment I placed Tom’s gold band on his finger while I held his hand. As well as hearing all the wonderfully funny and heartfelt speeches on the night! Groom: Seeing my beautiful wife for the first time on the wedding day! Recommendation:

Everyone will tell you to take a moment and take it all in. Yes, you definitely should! But luckily it really was all unforgettable! But on a practical note, ask your bridesmaids to help manage the veil. Something many brides forget on the day!

Happy Friday, friends! We’re so excited to introduce our newest Blogger Bride, Grace from A Southern Drawl! This Kentucky gal will be taking us through her wedding planning journey in 2018 and we think you’ll love her approachable southern style!

Hi y’all! Grace here from A Southern Drawl, a fashion and fitness blog based out of Kentucky. I’m so excited to join the SMP Blogger Bride tribe! I started my blog in 2011, while I was in college, and it’s flourished into my full time job. There’s just something so fun and positive about blogging and I love sharing my style with others!

My fiancé, Jordan, proposed on the one year anniversary of when we met. It was already a sentimental day to begin with, but now even more so! He surprised me by proposing during one of my photoshoots — he made me promises that shook me to my core, and I had never felt so loved and cared for.

The proposal was followed by a private candlelight dinner at my favorite restaurant. The magical night concluded with a surprise appearance by my family and friends at the place where we first met!

J and I will be getting married this October in Louisville, KY. The ceremony will be in a local church, followed by a cocktail style reception in a gorgeous museum. I’m aiming for a modern and minimalist wedding to match our venue, as well as my personal style.

We are so excited for what’s in store for us this year and can’t wait to share the wedding planning process with you!

From Karen Hill… Nathalie and Hugo’s Shabbat dinner was held in a brimming vegetable garden at the Cedar Lake Estates, at one long classic farm table in the middle of a vegetable garden in the middle of a campground. Among their closest friends and family, they shared a farm to table dinner and wine under the stars. The most extraordinary part for the couple was to have Nathalie’s grandmother in attendance from Israel. The emotions were grand, so loving, so happy!

Nathalie and Hugo’s traditional Jewish ceremony held at the golden hour on a summer day transfixed their friends and family for a few moments, and the rest of the world crept silently away. It was pure magic when they said, “I will. I do. With all my love,” and then the party began. And what a party it was! In the end, it doesn’t matter where you’re going, it’s who you have beside you – isn’t it? So much joy at this wedding!

See Why This Farmhouse Nursery is Giving Us #ClosetGoals

Count this in my top 5 nurseries of all time. Also on that list is this insanely cute space. Notice a theme? They all belong to mama and wallpaper connoisseur, Raewyn Robbins and her beautiful girls. With the help of designer Margie Doyle, her latest gift to the nursery world is covered in whimsical details, blushing hues and a closet that is straight up enviable. When we were planning the design of our farmhouse I knew that I wanted everything to feel as vintagey as possible, but with a modern, clean twist. For months I poured over wallpapers, hoping to find the perfect one, and finally settled on Perroquet by Nina Campbell. It’s whimsical and old timey, with the perfect amount of warmth.

The first piece of furniture that I settled on was the iron crib from Restoration Hardware. I love how it adds that vintage feel, and is different from anything that I have ever done before. The Bella Notte bedding is incredibly luxurious, and has exquisite detail. The rug I found through a designer friend. It looks like a big giant sweater, and is perfect for playing and reading on the floor with both of my girls.

When designing nurseries I have a few elements that I keep consistent – great wallpaper, a comfy glider, a big pouf to rest your feet (and for kids to play on!), and an organized closet. It can be tough to organize kids rooms, and I feel as though a well thought out and organized closet helps me to keep on top of it. The system is by California Closets, and I found the bins and hangers from Bed, Bath and Beyond. An organized kids closet is truly a game changer for me! I’m an organized person by nature, and I love teaching my kids the value of tidying their room and putting things back in their place.

When planning this room we did so with a queen sized bed in mind. For now we have simply swapped out the layout to accommodate a crib. It was important to me that this room grow with my daughter forever, as we are never, ever leaving this house. Once you swap out the dolls and toys out for more adult accessories, I believe that this room will grow with her from nursery and beyond.

From the Bride… Eric and I first met in college, at UC Santa Barbara, some seven plus years ago. We had just received our midterm exam scores back and as I walked out of the lecture hall, my friend Andy waved at me. I walked over towards him and we began sharing our scores. Andy briefly introduced me to his friend Eric, who received an almost perfect score. Andy then asked me what I scored, and I had to share that I got a 265, which meant a perfect score plus the extra credit (I know, super nerdy). Until this day, Eric would joke about how proud I was to share my score, but I always denied that. We continued to run into each other in college. We had a few courses together and were neighbors in the same apartment complex during our junior and senior years. Despite our regular encounters, we never went out. It wasn’t until after college when we started our careers at the same company that Eric asked me out. We went to Disneyland together for our first date. I still can’t believe we spent 10 plus hours there! Fast forward four years after Disneyland, Eric dropped to one knee right in front of the tulip exhibit at the Broad Museum. He even arranged to have some of my favorite people rush out to surprise me, including my parents, my brother, my closest girlfriends, and even my cousin from Canada. A year after that, we got hitched at one of the most beautiful venues in SoCal!

As I began planning for our special day, I envisioned a romantic and chic wedding that would stand the test of time. I wanted the look to be soft and organic but yet classy. I was inspired by foliage and greenery so I wanted to use plenty of it! I thought that a romantic ivory and dusty rose palette would best be complemented by vintage gold and glass accents. I was hoping the result would be a look that is both modern and vintage (even though that seems contradictory). Nonetheless, we loved how everything turned out. There’s no feeling that can compare to seeing it all come to life! The day was just so awesome. The weather was perfect. The sky was clear, the ocean was blue, and everyone we loved was gathered in one place. One of the most memorable things would have to be how much Eric cried during the ceremony. From the moment I walked down the aisle to the very end of the ceremony. He couldn’t stop crying and barely got through his personal vows. Eric is not an extremely expressive person, so to see that much outward emotion from him was something that no one could’ve ever imagined (including myself!). Everyone was sobbing thanks to him.

The planning process was a lot of fun for me because I’m more of a DIY bride. I planned and designed the wedding myself. I even learned modern calligraphy for the invitation addressing and table numbers. My humble advice for the really hands-on bride/couple is that you must try to carve out tasks that don’t require your personal touch. Take some quiet moments to figure out which simple and easy tasks you can assign to your bridesmaids, your fiance/fiancee, or your family and friends. The more you can delegate, the better you’ll feel and the more time you can spend on the details that really beg your attention. Everyone around you is eager, and more than happy, to pitch in. You’re not alone, they all love you and want to help reduce your stress! All in all, have so much fun at your wedding. Let go of small hiccups and don’t dwell on any missed details. At the end of the day, you’re marrying the love of your life in front every person you cherish. Nothing can beat that. Best wishes to everyone that’s getting hitched!

Should You Have a Short or Long Engagement?

The holiday season is a time when many couples get engaged and kick off the wedding planning process. First of all, congratulations on this exciting new season in life! Following the proposal, one of the next steps in the planning process is selecting your wedding date. However, the process is a bit more tricky than simply selecting a day that has a nice ring to it, like 8/18/18.

You need to consider the potential benefits of drawbacks of having a longer engagement, like 18 months, or a shorter engagement, closer to 6 months.

Long Engagements

Pros
Having a longer engagement tends to take some of the pressure off of the decision-making process. The added time gives you the freedom to think more thoroughly through decisions. If you’re someone who wants your family to be highly involved in the planning process this is a crucial bonus since the extra time will help you communicate decisions and direction more fully with others.

Additionally, you have more creative freedom with a longer wedding. Certain decor ideas or special details and projects you dream up may take longer to come to fruition.

Cons
Deadlines can creep up on you because you think you have all the time in the world to plan. During the first few months of your engagement, it may feel like you have all the time in the world for planning. However, before you know it much of that time will be gone and you may end up a bit further behind in the planning process than you wanted to be.

Short Engagements

Pros
The lack of extra time in a short engagement necessitates strong and quick decision making. If you tend to be an indecisive person this may prove to be more of a hardship, but in the end, it will be a huge blessing to work through tricky decisions promptly and deftly.

Cons
The main drawback to a shorter engagement is that many of your first choice vendors may potentially already be booked on your wedding day. If you have your heart set on a certain photographer or a certain venue, a short engagement may be incredibly limiting. However, if you’re open to new ideas and new vendors you may be glad that the field of options has been narrowed down for you.

Another downfall of a short engagement is that many guests may also already have plans or may not be available to come to your wedding. If you’re having an especially short engagement it may not be financially feasible for people to travel to visit you and coordinate taking time off of work. However, if you’re on a tight budget and hope to have a smaller wedding you may enjoy the added bonus of some people being unable to attend.

In the end, simply remember that this is your day and only you and your partner know what length of engagement is best for you. Whether you elope next month or have a celebration two years in the making, your guests will have a blast and you will cherish the special memories for a lifetime.

From the Bride… I’ve always wanted to travel to Mexico and dreamed of getting married on the beach, however, I didn’t think I would ever make this reality until I started planning my big day. As I was growing up, you could always find me drawing pictures of the beach, tropical flowers and palm trees over and over again. After debating back and forth, my fiancé and I decided to take the plunge!

At first, we thought we wanted bright pops of color until we really started visualizing our dream wedding. Of course, we had to play around a bit on Pinterest and Instagram. After a while, we started to notice we were pinning and saving photos with a lot of soft shades of blue and grey. So we did a complete design overhaul and couldn’t be happier. The soft but vibrant colors of Cabo and Playa Grande Resort, and the sand, ocean, amazing rock formations, beautiful architecture and waves played a big part in our wedding and really inspired us.
We also threw in a few pops of lime green to please my now-husband and major Seahawks fan.

Our ceremony and reception overlooked the ocean, a perfect and relaxing way to share our most precious moments with our loved ones. With the waves as our backdrop, I wanted to do something a little different than I typically would and also had my bridesmaids and flower girl dress in white. We wore bottomless sandals for the ceremony as we walked through the sand and later with teal heels for the bridesmaids and silver gemmed heels for my daughter, the flower girl and me. The groom and groomsmen all wore grey Sperry boat shoes, something we searched high and low for for the perfect style.

I was also lucky enough to tie in some of my favorite Seattle vendors from working in the wedding industry into my destination wedding! One of my all-time favorite photographers, Blue Rose Photography shared our big day with us, and I knew the images were going to be exactly what I’ve dreamt of. The paper goods from Mint Afternoon were absolutely stunning from the place cards to the menus and bar sign. DJ SpamIAm was on point in keeping the guests constantly impressed by the music choice and were all nonstop dancing. Then there were the hand-dyed table runners from Gather Design Company that I absolutely adore. We tied this all together with the help of my sister and planning manager from Simply by Tamara Nicole.

Take a Peek at a Wedding Inspired by Ralph Lauren’s Iconic Style

This backyard wedding in Greenwich looks like it walked straight off the pages of a Ralph Lauren editorial. Between the bride’s stunning family home, the black watch tartan and gray wool linens, the elegant florals by KD&J Botanica, and the abundance of warm and cozy candle light, True Event created a celebration that fully embraces the designer’s iconic, timeless style. From Sarah True of True EventFor the design, we were inspired by Ralph Lauren. We worked really closely with the mother of the bride (Leigh Carpenter) to create a space that was reflective of the personal style and taste not only of the family, but also of Alex and Avery (the bride and groom) as a couple. We created a warm, inviting, and elegant space that was an extension of their family home and the backdrop for a fabulous party.

Leigh and Avery wanted to create a winter wonderland by incorporating both elegant and organic details. We brought in black watch plaid and custom-sewn gray wool linens to dress the tables, and Katherine and her team at KDJ Botanica outdid themselves with the abundance of florals, candles, and greenery used throughout the space. Using all white florals mixed with foliage, magnolia leaves, and berries set the perfect backdrop for a winter wedding. We also included accents of silver mercury glass, and KDJ Botanica built the custom birch bars to tie in some natural elements – the perfect blend of elegance and organic detail. A mix of texture, pattern, florals, and lots and lots of candlelight made then tent feel very intimate and warm even though it was a large enough to hold over 200 people.

Heavy gray muslin fabric was draped around the perimeter poles by the talented team at Social Decor, and individually strung glass pendants provided a mirror-like reflection on the ceiling over the dance floor. It created the perfect “starry night” on the evening of the super moon.

In the cocktail space, we brought in a gorgeous mirrored bar from Reserve Modern (PEAK Rentals), and luxurious forest green velvet linens really made a statement against the white birch floor. The silver pendant lanterns helped to finish the space and make it feel like an extension of the Carpenters’ home. During cocktail hour, guests mingled in and out of the house where the doors of the living room opened up into the cocktail tent. An incredibly talented, lively pianist played festive tunes that set the tone for an incredible evening. The common sentiment throughout the night was that this was one of the best events guests had attended. We thought about the five senses while we were planning and hit on each one of them for the wedding, which truly created a memorable experience for all in attendance.

From the florals to the linens, from the custom crafted cocktails (ice cubes filled with cranberries and mint) to the live music, from Marcia Selden’s seasonally creative, passed hors d’oeuvres to the signature oyster shuckers with trays around their necks walking around during cocktail hour, there was always something happening to wow guests throughout the evening. We cannot forget to mention the surprise disco ball dancers from Shien that helped to lead guests from cocktail hour to the dining tent and get them on the dance floor for each dance set throughout the evening.

Rhythm Collective kept the energy high throughout the night, and guests never wanted to get off the dance floor. As the night went on, we flipped the cocktail tent to the after party tent by creating an ice lounge for guests to continue the party. Bringing in furniture that was clear like ice, mirrored tables, and white couches created a snow effect. We also had a custom ice luge made that was reflective of the two mountains the bride and groom skied growing up – it was a piece of art! The festivities continued well into the morning as a DJ played tunes to keep the party alive.

Working alongside Leila Brewster and Elysium was a pure joy. They captured the detail of the design, the energy, and the emotion throughout the night perfectly. It is hard to illustrate how magnificent the details were, but in looking at the pictures and video, you can get a glimpse of what it was like to be a guest at Alex and Avery’s wedding.

This Is What It Looks Like When the Bride Designs Her Gown

There are so many delightful details we could talk about at this Linden Place wedding by Glass Event Planning, and we could spend the entire day staring at the gorgeous gallery and film by STUDIO 1208. But there’s one special touch that has absolutely taken our breath away – the bride’s bespoke gown! As a womenswear designer, she knew creating her dream wedding day look from scratch was the only option for her, and the finished ensemble is absolutely everything! From the bride…TJ and I were on the same page from day one about the kind of wedding we wanted, as we have always loved the idea that weddings bring together all of the people you both love most in the world for one moment of celebration. There truly isn’t any other event in life that has that same impact. In recognition of that, we envisioned an intimate affair that was incredibly personalized, aesthetically beautiful, and most importantly, a celebration of our relationship with all of the people who have loved and supported us throughout our lives.

As a womenswear designer, I am particular about all of the small details and style lines within a garment. It only took one afternoon of dress shopping to confirm that designing my dress and having it custom made was my only option. I wanted something classic yet unexpected and designed a two-piece dress consisting of a bodysuit made from a blend of vintage laces (including a unique, linear Valentino lace that I found at Sposabella Lace in NYC) and a skirt made from a heavy crepe, which created both a tailored fit and a fluid drape. I have always loved the drama of a cathedral length train but don’t love the reality of a bustle, so I designed two separate skirts. With a quick change between ceremony and cocktail hour, I achieved a cathedral length train without a bustle!

I knew that making three unique pieces would be a major undertaking, so I enlisted the help and support of two close and talented friends (who also happen to be clothing designers) in order to bring my vision to life. My best friend and bridesmaid, Aynoucka Maynard, worked through every detail of the bodysuit with me, including embellishing the lace by hand with delicate crystals and pearls, while my close friend, Karen Thai, coordinated the creation of the skirts in LA and flew to NY for fittings to ensure they were perfectly tailored to my figure. As the finishing touch, Aynoucka also created an embellished silk belt for each skirt that had a slightly different color and embellishment to differentiate between ceremony and reception. My dress is everything I had ever dreamed of and a genuine collaboration of love as well as a one-of-a-kind piece that I will always be grateful for and cherish forever.

My gold after party dress is from House of Harlow 1960 and was a last minute find from Revolve Clothing that I instantly fell in love with and new would be the perfect touch for our sparkler send off!

From Elizabeth of Glass Event Planning Linden Place is nestled in downtown Bristol, Rhode Island, and was built in 1810 by the second wealthiest man in the United States. It was also a filming location for the Great Gatsby. It houses a chandelier from Buckingham Palace and the largest in-home spiral staircase in the United States.

The ceremony took place in the beautiful rose garden. We wanted to create an intimate experience even though the gardens were open and beautiful. Our inspiration was a “secret garden” within a larger garden. Delicate gold chairs were clustered in intimate groupings surrounded by beautiful “mini-gardens” that wound through the back of the beautiful Chameleon Chairs. We created an intimately curved aisle to mimic wandering through a secret garden to get to the alter.

The reception took place in an intimate carriage house on the grounds of Linden Place with wood floors and an exposed beam ceiling. As guests entered the grand carriage house doors, they immediately were greeted with a roaring fire which was the focal point of the room. Tables were placed thoughtfully to keep the sight line clear upon entering and viewing the fireplace. The ceiling was adorned with an 8 ft wrought iron chandelier, and white drapery tied back with thick black velvet bands cocooned intimate dinner tables along the perimeter of the carriage house.

Kira opted for a delicate place setting that would show the natural beauty of the farm tables. The stunning clear glass charger was rimmed in gold and accompanied with gold flatware. Each guest at the head table had a personal, calligraphy place card on hand made, torn paper with the custom “D” wax seal crest. It was tucked inside a little bunny card holder, a nod to the couple’s nickname for each other (they call each other bunny).

Kira has a love for dessert above all else. She wanted a room that was dripping with all of her favorites, floor to ceiling, like a dessert dream come true. We sectioned off part of a tent to create a secret room that would be revealed after dinner. Giant swags lined with crushed velvet were pulled back to reveal a dessert dream. A crystal chandelier provided a soft glow among tons of candlelight. The vision was a totally white space with the only color coming from the beautiful desserts and vintage platters. Desserts included sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, miniature cupcakes, chocolate pudding cake, s’mores, a variety of cheesecakes, chocolate tarts, nearly 100 french macarons dusted in gold and blush, two wedding cakes, a french macaron tower, and 100 mini pies in four different flavors. Each dessert was served on a vintage china plate, and guests sipped coffee from delicate vintage china cups.

A Stunning Celebration of Love Found Via Dating App

An open air garden affair complete with gourmet donuts? Yeah, we’re all in on this one. It’s an alfresco celebration of love found via dating app with planning by Sarah Park Events, florals by Poppy Design Co., really good food courtesy of Contemporary Catering, lots of beautiful imagery at the hands of Kurt Boomer, and a so-sweet film by Etcetera Productions.

From Sarah Park…Gloria and Tommy met in the most modern of ways on a dating app called Hinge. At the time, Gloria was a medical student and Tommy was traveling on business in Los Angeles. After exchanging messages for a very long week, they met in person for the first time on a red-eye flight to New York City. From their first date in New York City, their love grew from their shared love of good food and traveling through much of the gorgeous backdrop of California and even an eventual move to the Midwest. Two years later, it was only fitting that Tommy proposed in the beautiful Joshua Tree National Park. They married on September 2, 2017, in the stunning Malibu mountains and celebrated with their closest family and friends. When planning their wedding, they kept the many cities that highlighted the milestones of their relationship in mind and made sure there was plenty of delicious food for their guests.

5 Tips For Keeping Your Groomsmen Happy

On your wedding day, your bridesmaids get a ton of attention. But what about the groomsmen? Here are a few ways to make sure your guy’s guys feel the love on the big day as well.


Give them a gift they’ll remember.
Have your groom pick out gifts his crew will love and actually use, whether its shot glasses, socks, or something personalized. Brides tend to put a lot of time and effort into their bridesmaids’ gifts — make sure the groomsmen gifts aren’t waiting until the last minute.


Keep them fed.
Don’t forget that it’s a long day for everyone involved in the wedding party. While the guys get ready, make sure they’re treated right by ordering in breakfast and some special drinks, like craft beers or bloody Mary supplies.


Consider ditching the rented tuxes.
Tuxedos are super pricey and often don’t fit well. They can also offer a logistical concern if you have groomsmen who are traveling in from out of town. Think about asking them to wear simple suits instead of getting dressed to the nines. Brides always consult their bridesmaids on bridesmaids dresses, but how often are the groomsmen considered when it comes to what they’ll wear?


Make sure they’re given a plus one.
You no longer need to give every guest attending your wedding a plus one, and often brides skip the “plus one” idea to lower costs and avoid having awkward strangers they’ve never met at the most important day of their life. But your groomsmen are the most important people in your groom’s life, and they’re often making large sacrifices — both in time and money — to be a part of your wedding. They should be invited to bring a guest, even if it’s not a long-term relationship.


Give them almost total free reign on the bachelor party.
Of course, as a person in a relationship, you have every right to request certain things be kept off the table. But try not to interfere too much and trust your groomsmen to throw your man a party he’ll remember.

Heavenly Day Events took this Bride-to-be’s four month engagement and ran with it… and delivered tenfold. From the Bride… When Erik proposed, we knew we didn’t want to wait long to get married and it was the BEST decision we made. I tend to be very Type A, which I think helped us doing it so quickly. Not only did I want to hurry and get things checked off our wedding planning list, but since it was a four month engagement, I didn’t have time to re-think everything and keep trying to do things differently.

Everything worked out just the way it was supposed to. Our dream team came together beautifully. Hailey, at Heavenly Day Events, recommended Rosemary Catering and I cannot begin to tell you how delicious the food was and how easy it was working with them! Numerous guests told me that it was the best wedding food they have ever had. Hailey and Rosemary’s took over all the details since I was an out of town bride. My whole wedding was planned with one trip to Austin and came together better than I could have imagined. I believe this all was possible because of Heavenly Day Events… they have a great working relationship with the vendors so it made it pretty painless to pull everything together (thanks Hailey!!!).

We wanted our wedding to be a laid back, fun experience for our guests. When we saw Laguna Gloria, we knew this would be the perfect setting as it gives you the ability to take your guests on an adventure. We were able to have our ceremony in an area with the most beautiful backdrop, send our guests on a short walk to a beautiful area under a gazebo for cocktail hour, then on another short walk to the reception – this allowed them to look at everything Laguna Gloria has on their grounds so they can enjoy where they are currently, without the desire to see what else is on the property.

My biggest planning tip to future brides is to pick where you want to spend your money and go with that – for us, we chose to spend it on FUN and to let our guests know how much we appreciated them traveling to celebrate Erik and I. I didn’t spend a fortune on my dress, as I knew that I would only wear that once and I was able to find my dream dress with my dream price tag. We put that money towards Sarah Kate (world’s BEST photographer in my humble opinion), a great venue, great food and drinks, and great music… things we will always remember. Our whole goal was to make the wedding an amazing experience for our guests, which is why it was easy to listen to Hailey. I knew I had the perfect team and they were in my corner.

Wrap a Tree With Gorg Blooms + We’ll Love You Forever

Where do I even begin with these two – everything about them makes me smile. From their impeccable wedding-day style to their ceremony beneath the tree wrapped in blooms by Big Day Event Design + Styling to the tender moments between just the two of them so beautifully captured by Cecelina Photography, this is one for the books.

From the bride…Damian and I met just over six years ago, whilst I was visiting a good friend in Brighton. After two years long distance, I made the move and relocated from Newcastle Upon Tyne to Brighton on the South Coast. We truly have not looked back. Damian proposed on the May 3, 2015, on a beautiful private terrace overlooking Regent Street, at the Hotel Café Royal London over my favourite thing – afternoon tea! Our engagement was long because we really wanted to enjoy the moment and have lots of time to plan our most special day.

From the offset, we knew that we wanted a destination wedding in a location that was not too far for guests to travel. Whilst holidaying on the Cote D’Azur, we decided to visit a few potential locations. From the minute we stepped foot into the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat, we knew that we had found the one. Although a hotel, it feels more like a palace. We immediately fell in love with its fresh and contemporary yet classic style. I had dreamed of a garden wedding yet Damian hoped for sea views, and this beauty ticked off all of our boxes whilst oozing a whole lot of old school French Rivera glamour. We knew our guests would love the glass funicular down to the Club Dauphin, too!

We agreed that our day should be intimate and meaningful, inviting just 35 of our immediate family and dearest friends. It was a priority for us that each and every guest felt incredibly important and special. Sundari, The Wedding Stylist, helped enormously with this. Each guest was welcomed to their hotel room with a beautiful welcome box full of French treats, curated to perfection by Sundari. She designed our crest and used this to make our day more personalised than I could have dreamed of, from stationery and gold foil napkins to water bottle labels and tissue pockets for our guests during the ceremony.

The luscious and pristinely manicured gardens provided the perfect ceremony backdrop. I had envisaged the ceremony under a beautiful tree decorated with florals. Big Day Design and Sundari certainly brought this vision to life – the florals truly took my breath away throughout the day. We had our friend, Becky, act as celebrant, since she was the reason we had met. We worked together to ensure that the ceremony was meaningful and special, and our guests were seated to almost encircle us, helping to create the intimate vibe.

The speeches were hilarious and warm-hearted, and followed the cocktail hour and music by the incredibly talented acoustic duo, Becky and Belha. We then lead our guests down to the Club Dauphin via the funicular. The table setting was beyond beautiful and made my heart skip a beat! As we sat down for dinner, each guest opened a personalised, hand-calligraphed letter from us – cue the tears! Dinner was superb, and the staff at the hotel were outstanding throughout our day. We then danced the night away under the stars, to the fabulous beats of Thomas Dusseune. Our day could not have been more perfect.

During the planning, I regretted not hiring a wedding planner; however I now feel immensely proud that I organised such a detailed and incredible day. I spent countless hours researching every single, tiny aspect, but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. We are so very grateful that Cecelina Photography captured our day so perfectly to give us such precious memories.
