Roasted Strawberries and Cream Popsicles

Summer is in full swing, and that also means—it’s popsicle season. We love the myriad of ways to get creative with this easy-to-make treat, but our favorite might be this roasted strawberries and cream recipe from Fork Knife Swoon.

“Roasting the berries first caramelizes and concentrates the strawberry flavor, as well as cooks away some of their natural liquid, reducing iciness in the final pops,” explains Laura of Fork Knife Swoon. “I layered the maple-sweetened, roasted strawberries with creamy coconut milk, for vegan, dairy-free popsicles, but you can easily use whatever dairy you have on hand; thick Greek yogurt, sweet whipping cream, or even buttermilk, which would add a nice, creamy tang to offset the sweetness of the strawberries.”

Check out Fork Knife Swoon for the full post and more swoon-worthy recipes!

Roasted Strawberries and Cream Popsicles
prep time
20 Minute/s
cook time
20 Minute/s
total time
40 Minute/s
Serves 10Ingredients
  • 1 lb strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 2-3 tsp good-quality balsamic vinegar (optional)
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup (or honey), divided
  • 1-1/2 cups full fat canned coconut milk*
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • small pinch fine sea salt
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Arrange the strawberries in an even layer on a parchment paper-lined sheet pan. Drizzle lightly with the balsamic vinegar, if using. Roast until the strawberries are soft and fragrant, about 20 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes on the pan, then transfer to a bowl (including juices) and let cool to room-temperature.
  2. Add the roasted strawberries and 1/4 cup of maple syrup to a food processor or blender, and pulse a few times to combine. The mixture should still be a bit chunky, with small bites of fruit throughout.
  3. In a separate bowl or measuring cup, whisk together the coconut milk (or dairy of choice) and the remaining 1/4 cup maple syrup, adding more or less sweetener as needed, to taste. Remember that the sweetness will mellow once frozen. Stir in the vanilla and salt.
  4. For blended popsicles: Add the cream mixture to the food processor/blender and pulse until just combined. Divide between 10 popsicle molds and freeze until set, about 4 hours. After 30 minutes, place a popsicle stick in each pop, and continue freezing.
  5. For layered/swirled popsicles: Spoon a tablespoon or two of the strawberry mixture into the bottom of each popsicle mold. Top with a bit of the cream, and continue layering until all the molds are evenly filled. Freeze until set, about 4 hours. After 30 minutes, place a popsicle stick in each pop, and continue freezing.
  6. To remove the popsicles: Place the popsicle mold in a large pot of warm water for 10-15 seconds, then pull gently on each popsicle stick until the pops release.
  7. Note from Laura: Using coconut milk keeps these pops vegan, but feel free to use whatever dairy you have on hand. Greek yogurt or heavy cream or buttermilk are all good choices, but look for full-fat/whole milk options, for the creamiest popsicles.

This Pronovias Dress + Sonoma Vineyard Make for One Seriously Romantic Affair

If your wedding dress is one of the first things you dream about diving into when it comes to wedding planning, I highly suggest you take a looksie at this little Pronovias number. It’s a beaut, and this Bride absolutely rocks it. Not to mention, it was the loveliest choice for this vineyard affair at Gundlach Bundschu in Sonoma. Planned by A Savvy Event and captured by Carlie Statsky, you’ll find loads of neutrals, ivory blooms an al fresco reception overlooking the vines. What are you waiting for?

From the Bride… When we first visited Gundlach Bundschu in Sonoma, we were immediately struck by the winery’s natural beauty. Upon our arrival we were guided through a rustic wine cave lined with barrels that opened up to an unexpected, breathtaking view of the hills overlooking the vineyard with a pond in the background.

We imagined what the space would look like in the spring with fresh leaves on the vines, flowers in bloom and freshly cut grass, with candles placed between each of the wine barrels to illuminate the walkway through the cave. We loved the thought of having our guests walk through a cave unaware of what awaited them on the other side. We would have a live band, delicious food, a wide variety of wine, and a dance floor that was never empty.

We chose colors and details that enhanced the winery’s surroundings. The flowers were shades of white, cream and blush with lots of greenery. The bride’s gown was adorned with lace and floral accents. The groom wore blue and silver. The bridesmaids were in long taupe dresses and the groomsmen in grey suits with midnight blue ties. We decorated the venue with flowers, wooden signs and gold picture frames. We also incorporated aspects of the bride’s Japanese culture, with silver paper cranes and a gold obi with floral embroidery. Our wedding resembled us.

Aly and Jack were traveling throughout New Zealand, enjoying a moment on the beach, when Jack popped the question for her hand forever. The high school sweethearts celebrated 10 years together the week they were married on a June day at Holman Ranch in Carmel Valley, California.

Organic, garden-inspired florals welcomed guests to a stunning ceremony set looking out upon flowing green hills. A live string trio played harmonies synchronizing the day’s timeless celebration, set up by a backdrop of aged oak trees. Golden hour seemed to linger the entire evening.

The glowing couple stole a few moments away, twirling in the vineyard as the setting sun spilt golden streams upon them. “The sunset photos are a moment that stands out to us about the day,” Aly shares. “Slipping away just the two of us, to really soak up what was happening, in the absolutely gorgeous sunset hour, was honestly a memory I’ll hold forever.”

Charmed Events Group thoughtfully curated design and coordination for a classic, timeless celebration of Aly and Jack’s love. A veil of shimmering lights glowed over the dining area. Glassware accented with gold and fresh greenery dressed the full-length dinner tables.

Touches of cloud blue paisley tablecloths picked up the bridesmaids’ blue floor length gowns. Aly and Jack shared their first married dance together to Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud.” “We celebrated the beginning of our forever together honeymooning in Maui,” Aly shares. “We’ll never look back.”

This Bright, Modern L.A. Home is Giving us All the Beach Vibes

Aside from living on the sand with the ocean as your backyard, this home tour is next best thing. It’s California coastal with clean modern lines and cheeky beach decor masterminded by Orlando Soria of Homepolish. What does a perfectly executed beach abode include? Natural rugs, ocean inspired art, blue hues and a surfboard for good measure. See more shot by Tessa Neustadt in the VAULT.

For a client in Los Angeles’s coastal San Clemente area, Homepolish West Coast Creative Director Orlando Soria designed a bright and airy home.

My favorite room in the house was also one of the more difficult to decorate. The library/sitting room overlooks the back yard and is really more of a pass through to the backyard. But I also wanted to make it inviting. We knocked down the wall that originally separated the stairs from the space, thus creating one large bright space.

We even added a little sleeping nook under the stairs (with a twin mattress) that functions as a daybed/reading nook AND a place for a guest to sleep. Like, you know, in case Harry Potter or Cinderella come over. They love sleeping under stairs.

This concrete table was perfect for the space because it brings in a new material and is super durable so the kids can draw or do their homework on it. I’m kinda obsessed with concrete and stone, fyi.

The backyard has a lovely deck that’s just made for champagne guzzling. So we created a simple dining area that interacts directly with the library/sitting room.

The kitchen was original from the 1953 construction and was in desperate need of refreshment. So we went with a modern, minimal, integrated white kitchen.

The biggest splash came from from the backsplash. Sorry I just said “splash” twice. But it’s the beach so I had to. The gorgeous glass tiles from Fireclay (in 1×4 offset “Prickly Pear”) add a beautiful color and texture to the kitchen.

The owners have had this “Cocktails” sign for ages. We originally tried to find a place for it in a house I designed for them a few years ago. But it didn’t fit anywhere, so we were determined to fit it at the beach house. I added a little edge by accessorizing it with a super cool Ben Medansky sculpture.

The dining room used to be walled off from the kitchen and sitting room. But you know what’s fun? KNOCKING DOWN WALLS WHILE YELLING! So we opened up the whole space making it a lot less choppy and a lot more roomy.

There are large accordion doors at the front and back of the home so the sea breeze can flow through the front and fill the house with salty sea air that flows directly into your mouth as you scream for joy. I also found a dining table and set of chairs that perfectly match that salt air, beach vibe.

The biggest impact in the living room came from the giant framed art above the sofa. They spent a ton on the renovation, so by the time we got to the art, we were on a tight budget.

The solution was to use this beautiful wallpaper from Black Crow Studio, custom framed. (That’s right. That’s not even “art” proper! Sometimes wallpaper is just amazing by itself!) The Restoration Hardware sofa adds a sandy vibe to the living room. Together, it’s like waves lapping up on the shore.

The master bedroom is on the second floor and has a lovely large window that overlooks the beach. The couple has slightly different aesthetics, so I tried to make both of them happy. I balanced their needs by going pretty minimal on well decor and adding in some accessories for table top styling.

I found a spooky ladydrawing at Shopclass, one of my favorite vintage spots in LA. I like to think she’s a good witch, watching over them as they sleep. The CB2 bed has a simple metal frame, but coupled with a pillowy cloud of linens and a giant oversized bench is looks completely luxurious. And can we just take a moment to gaze into the eyes of that dreamy chandelier?

Styling the nightstands was a delicate balance between looking too sterile and being too crowded. I ended up keeping it pretty simple by using a tray from Lawson-Fenning to corral everything and a small sculpture by Ben Medansky to add visual interest.

The guest bedroom is light and bright like the rest of the house, but we needed a bit more color. So I added a teal blanket and a vintage map from Shopclass. The bed and side tables are all from CB2 and the chandelier is from West Elm.

I love a glimmering pillow, so I added this wonderful peacock one .

The guest bathroom on the ground floor got a glamorous makeover. I have a strong and unbreakable love for rectangular tubs so this one (by Americh) made me super happy.

The bathroom is clean and white, but I didn’t want it to feel like a sterile hospital. (I don’t think ANYONE wants that!) So I added in some warmth with accessories from Lawson-Fenning and West Elm.

Inspired by Ocean Waves, This Wedding Takes Watercolor to the Next Level

If you’ve always been obsessed with the watercolor wedding trend, then this Moscow affair is about to blow your mind. The talented team at Caramel and Latte Decor took inspiration from the ocean waves, blue sky and rays of sunshine to create the most wow-worthy watercolor reception backdrop we’ve ever seen. Oh, and did we mention the tables are in the shape of waves too? Yup. It’s safe to say you have to check out the full gallery captured perfectly by Julia Kaptelova Photography! It’s a total dream.

From the Bride… Our proposal story was really amazing! My boyfriend has chosen a beautiful date 21. 12 and one week before that he told me that we need to give an interview to the hockey club where he plays. It was not for a first time, so I didn’t suspect a thing. In the evening of the 21st of December we went to one of skyscrapers in downtown, where a studio was. We met an interviewer, who took us to the 72nd floor, where photographers and videographers were waiting. We answered the interview questions and in the end we were asked to take a couple of photos with a nice night cityscape on a background. For the last shots they asked us to look outside and then suddenly the lights turned off and on the skyscraper in front of us a saw sign saying “Marry me?”.

I was shocked, looked at Vova, he was staying on one knee holding amazing Tiffany ring. I was so excited that heard only “Will you be my wife?” and I replied “Of course!” through the tears. After that flowers, champagne and a huge bunch of balloons was bought. We went outside to make them fly on a river embankment, and that exact moment we released them, on the other side of the river I heard loud rumble of the fireworks! It was unbelievable and I was absolutely happy.

We had chosen the best wedding planner, so had no doubt that our wedding will go great. The team of the professionals carefully selected and prepared every single detail. One of the most memorable moments of getting ready process was our pre-wedding video, for shooting it we went to Crimea, and showed to our guests for a first time during our wedding reception. I’s difficult to choose of favorite moments of the day, whole day was so unique! But probably the most memorable were ceremony and seeing all over families and friends together, being so happy and beautiful! If you’re just planning your special day, my recommendation for you would be to fully dive into this wonderful day, don’t lose a moment!

From Caramel..For the wedding of Alina and Vladimir we had a  floral fantasy with a hint of impressionism on the sea theme, waves, sky and the rays of the sun, coming through the clouds. Searching for modern forms and textures, we have stopped at the smooth wavy lines. The scale form of the art object for the ceremony zone was facilitated by a weightless translucent texture, with accents in the form of flower arrangements emphasizing the basic color palette. In the hall, we chose tables in the form of waves with laconic decor and modern floristics against the background of the view of the mountains as if it was illuminated by thin sunset stripes.

A Chic, Tropical Party Infused With That Iconic Banana Leaf Print

Welcoming guests for a weekend filled with celebrating, this couple did it up with a chic tropical party infused with that iconic banana leaf print we know and love. It served as a fun nod to their upcoming wedding at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and played perfectly with the bright backdrop of The Lombardi House. Chic Celebrations and JL Designs carried that idea of vacay glam throughout the celebration with white blooms and tropical greens, the perfect conversation spots and warm weather treats. Get inspired to throw a fabulous summer party with even more captured by Sanaz Photography right here.

As the welcome party for the wedding weekend of the brother of Be Inspired PR’s Leila Lewis, we pulled out all of the stops to pay homage to the couple’s love for LA. The couple wanted their guests to experience Hollywood – later that weekend, their wedding took place at the world famous Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel!

Lombardi House is a fully restored Victorian-style farmhouse in the heart of Hollywood. It is full of charm, and we wanted to bring that to their welcome party. We stayed with a neutral but bold palette of black, white, and green. The iconic banana leaf print and black and white stripe combo was PERFECT. It added so much personality!

Circa Rentals had the perfect lounges that managed to both stand out so brilliantly yet blend into the space like they were built to be there. In lieu of a photo booth, we created a selfie station with a black peacock chair, and Carissa of JL Designs made it a floral masterpiece. Guests LOVED it!

There were so many things for guests to enjoy – a popsicle stand, fresh rolled cigars, One Hope wines – but the couple’s personality was present in every detail. The groom’s sister surprised the couple with an “heirloom display” – a shelf filled with candles, flowers, and family wedding photos from both sides of their families.

Seeing their parents and siblings on their wedding days as they were about to be married themselves was so special to the couple. The details and custom touches all came together and celebrated the couple perfectly.

Oakland Athletics Baseball Player Khris Davis Marries His Sweetheart at El Chorro

When Khris Davis and his beautiful Bride-to-be set out to find a wedding venue that boasted beauty in and of itself, El Chorro was the perfect choice. Their celebration was filled to the brim with colorful blooms from The Wildflower AZ, complimenting their (already stunning) location—as the Bride coins it, ‘a desert setting with a pop of color’. And I’m saying all the YES to that combo. Have a peek for yourself below and in the full gallery from Jessica Q Wong!

From the Bride… Khris and I got engaged in November 2017 when our son was almost 2 months old. I had just put our son to down for a nap and we were relaxing watching a tv show. Out of the blue, Khris disappeared for a few minutes and came back holding a box and asked me to marry him. I think our son wanted to celebrate, because in true newborn fashion, he woke up about 3 minutes after I said “yes.” We were able to celebrate with our families later that evening.

We are really low key and very untraditional and we wanted our wedding “celebration” to reflect that. We had actually gotten married a month earlier in our backyard, but we wanted a super nice dinner to celebrate with our close family and friends. Reflecting that, we wanted a venue that was beautiful itself without having to do too much work. I’m from the midwest so I wanted to embrace the desert setting with a pop of color. El Chorro was literally the perfect spot for us because its such a beautiful venue with its fireplaces and desert design and has a gorgeous mountain backdrop. Once we saw El Chorro’s setting, we knew we wouldn’t have to do too much, just a few highlights to make it unique to us. I love floral so we decided to make the floral arrangements highlight our style. The florist we worked with, The Wildflower AZ, couldn’t have done a better job. My request wasn’t the easiest of requests either. I didn’t provide a ton of direction, just that I wanted bright colors, like coral, but also wanted to colors accentuating the fall, like maroon. The pieces that they put together were so beautiful and exactly what we wanted. The arrangements worked seamlessly with the venue decor and created the perfect setting for us.

A few unique wedding details we had were…

  • The fireplace mantel floral arrangement is honestly the most beautiful floral arrangement I’ve ever seen. I wanted everyone to take their pictures underneath it and I wish I could have it at home on our fireplace mantel permanently!
  • Khris loves shoes (sneakers specifically) so instead of wearing traditional dress shoes, he and our son wore sneakers with their suits.
  • I loved having one long table for dinner. It really felt like we were all sitting down together to celebrate and was a great way to bring everyone together instead being separated at different tables.

Traditional Elements: We are pretty untraditionally and wanted to make it as casual and “untraditional” of a wedding celebration as possible. I did wear a white dress though.

DIY Elements: Khris and I both have a giant sweet tooth and love doing puzzles. He likes chocolate chip cookies while I prefer sugar cookies. My mom made sugar and chocolate chip cookies in the shape of puzzle pieces as party favors for all the guests to take home.

Our favorite moments of the day… being able to celebrate with family and friends that traveled near and far was the most special part of the day. It felt so wonderful to celebrate our love, surrounded by people who love us. After the dinner everyone came back to our house and we played a giant game of sand volleyball in our backyard.

A bit of advice… when you’re planning your special day, plan it the way you want it. Everyone will have their opinions and advice, but its a day to celebrate your love and you want to be able to look back in 20 years and not regret any decisions. It’s also so easy to get caught up in what you think you need to have to make the perfect wedding, but I think the best weddings are the ones that you can see that the bride and groom focused on their love and didn’t get caught up in all the noise.

If Sleeping Beauty is Your Favorite Fairy Tale, You Need to See This Wedding Editorial.

Can you think of anything more whimsical than a fairy tale-inspired wedding? Specifically, the enchantment that is Sleeping Beauty! Today’s editorial from Tularosa Flowers and Compass Design Events is inspired by the classic story, all while being equally as elegant as it is playful. And what better style venue than a vineyard to realize this look? There are over 170 images in the full gallery from Carrie Mcguire Photography, so make sure to pop over there too for even more.

From Tularosa Flowers… We were inspired by the beauty of the rolling hills covered in grape vines at Callaway Vineyard in Temecula to create a design that felt like the vines were taking over everything. A little bit fairy tale, a modern romance, tons of flowers set against a backdrop of acres of lush green vineyard.

What’s more romantic than the fairy tale story of Sleeping Beauty awakened by her handsome Prince amidst the overgrown rose briar? Dawn Weisberg of Tularosa Flowers envisioned a modern spin on the classic tale with subtle hints of the Gothic fairy tale coming to life in the ceremony design of a deconstructed Medieval Chapel covered in grape vines and overgrown flowers. Michaela of Compass Design Events coordinated the editorial seamlessly to ensure a smooth and productive day for everyone, bringing together all the vendors and creating timelines that kept the shoot on schedule. Enticing Tables fabricated a gold metal Gothic arch created just for the shoot and Tularosa Flowers covered it with wild and vibrant flowers and fresh grapes. Vineyard cross back chairs from Rustic Urban Events were the perfect ceremony chair for a ceremony set up in the heart of the vineyard with limitless views.

Photographer Carrie McGuire captured the sun drenched hills, romantic couple and bold colors of the tablescape engulfed in meandering vines and flowers with effortless beauty. Tabletop rentals from Hostess Haven have the feel of Old World elegance you’d find in a French Chateau with linens and classic Louis XIV chairs from APR Boutique Event Rentals. Of course no vineyard wedding would be complete without wine, so we celebrated the bounty of Callaway with a bold red, a white and a sparkling rose’ and the use of grapes in both the table and ceremony design, something at once unexpected and yet classically European. I’m always trying to surprise and delight in my wedding design, we want to take the bride and groom and their guests on a journey, it’s part of what makes weddings so special, says Dawn.

The design created by Tularosa Flowers incorporates fruit and flowers to evoke the feeling of a still life painting. Using bright colors against the backdrop of verdant green hills of the vineyard, yellow tree peonies, bi-colored foxglove, French tulips, light blue tweedia, rannuculus, fresh green grapes, bright cherries and a riot of boldly colored garden roses, is meant to inspire even traditional brides to embrace the use of vibrant color when paired with an elegant and classic backdrop. The color palette was inspired by an amazing Marchesa Gown, covered in bright embroidery against a background of grey tulle. We used vines that appear to grow directly out of the vineyard and up the table for a decadent lush floral story. The bridal bouquet is like holding a summer garden in your hands.

Love Jenna K created curled handmade place cards that echo the feel of a fairy tale scroll with gold lettering against a grey marbled paper. She also designed a custom stationary suite for the editorial incorporating grapes and flowers into a beautiful crest to compliment the vineyard location. We wanted to blend all of these unique elements into the shoot to really honor the setting and the concept behind the design.

Against this saturated backdrop, the bride, captured beautifully by Carrie is wearing the Celine gown designed by Liz Martinez in an ethereal champagne colored tulle with an underlay of embellished embroidery that gives the subtlest of sparkle, available at En Blanc Bridal Boutique. also from En Blanc, a silk net chapel length veil from Daphne Newman is the perfect compliment to the cathedral like ceremony design. Girl Meets Bongga created a softly natural look for the bride and a loose up do with intricate braid. The groom is dressed in a classically elegant white dinner Jacket from Friar Tux, that hearkens back to dashingly handsome men of a bygone era.

A three tiered cake from Cakes to Celebrate is the perfect accompaniment to a sparkling rose’ from Callaway, a fitting ending to this fairy tale vineyard wedding.

This Bride Just Transformed Her Bridal Boots from Cowgirl to Couture

There’s nothing more romantic than tying the knot at the very place your love story began. For this couple, that special place is the groom’s family ranch in Montana. The bride visited the ranch for the first time when she was just fifteen years old (how cute is that?!), now, many years later, they are exchanging vows in the same spot. I mean, it just doesn’t get much sweeter than that. The entire day went off without a hitch thanks to Katalin Green Events. The decor was simple yet elegant, with a classic palette of green, white and neutrals. Take in this breath of fresh air at the full gallery, captured by Orange Photographie.

OH, but before you go any further – watch this can’t-miss film from Robert Michael Films of their Big Day! Just make sure you have some tissues close by for the happy tears that are about to come your way. [iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/302595802 600 250]

From the Bride… My husband Geoff and I were married this past July on his family’s ranch in Southwestern Montana. His grandparents moved there in 1955 and it’s been in the family ever since. Geoff and I met in high school so the first time I visited the ranch was when we were just fifteen years old. Since then we have shared so many fond memories there riding horses, feeding the cows, hiking, camping out under the stars and being with family. It’s a truly breathtaking landscape so when it came time to start planning we couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else. With the closest hotels being 30 mins away from the ranch, it was quite a feat to organize lodging and transportation for all our guests (read: yellow school buses!) But it was all worth it to be able to tie the knot in such a special and secluded spot with the most incredible backdrop of greenery and mountains.

For the ceremony site, we chose one of our favorite spots on the property near a lone willow tree in a hay field overlooking Paradise Valley. Our taste is simple and elegant and we wanted to let the magnificent Montana scenery speak for itself so we stuck with a color palette of white, greens and neutrals for all our details from our invitation suite to our florals and bridesmaids all in white.

We opted for tipi tents for our cocktail hour bar and our pre-wedding ceremony tent where we signed our ketubah and worked in a few nods to the West with locally-inspired cocktails and cuisine such as a “Sage Margarita” and elk satay skewers and the groomsmen all in black jeans and cowboy boots. I chose a romantic lace dress from the Israeli designer Berta and customized a pair of white Madewell ankle boots by having them overlaid with the lace from my dress.

The reception followed just up the road at beautiful neighboring guest ranch where we dined and danced in a sail tent on the lawn. It had been raining the whole week before our wedding, so the grass was unbelievably lush and green for July in Montana, which was such an amazing gift.

We kicked off the week of celebrations by bringing our guests to the famous Livingston Rodeo for an all-American 4th of July and a BBQ rehearsal dinner the following night at the Old Saloon in Emigrant with an amazing Country/Bluegrass band from Jackson Hole.

All in all, it was the most magical week of our lives that we will cherish forever.

A Victoria’s Secret Model’s Canyon Retreat

If you’ve ever been to Mandeville Canyon you know it’s the definition of goals – and this house is no exception! Victoria’s Secret model, Jasmine Tookes, wanted her home to be a retreat and place of rest and relaxation. Jasmine she teamed up with Design Works designer, Robin Strickler to bring her vision to life. Trust us when we tell you that this home is most certainly an escape from reality!

Living Room

Jasmine travels a ton for work, and wanted home that made her completely de-stress and unwind. This living room does just that with the neutral palette mixed with grays, and lots of texture from the light wood and leather touches. The couch is large and super comfortable – and with the additional chairs and stools – its the perfect space for entertaining. We also did a fun tile around the fireplace to add some color and keep the room on-trend and current.

Kitchen / Dining Room

Since the living, kitchen, and dining areas are all one large space – we wanted to break it up and make sure when you’re in each area – it didn’t feel like the dining was spilling into the kitchen and vice-versa. We used a large lighting fixture above the light wood dining table, and pendants above the kitchen island to help separate the areas. The dining space is large enough to host 8 guests – and the seating is cozy so your guests will want to stay awhile!
The kitchen has gorgeous marble countertops and white cabinets – an ideal clean canvas for accessories,  cookbooks, vases, plants, fruit, etc.

Master Bedroom

This room is really Jasmine’s sanctuary – and the four-poster bed is one of our favorite pieces in the home.  It makes a big statement, and Jasmine and our team both agreed it was a must have! The room has a perfect soft blush tone– one of Jasmine’s favorite colors – so we incorporated it into the bedding and window treatments. The side tables are classic – but with a modern and unexpected twist with the leather shelf.

Master Bath

This bathroom truly feels like you’re at a five-star resort somewhere fabulous. The black and white tile against the steel beams in the shower – with the light wood and brass accents – and of course the oversized soaking tub – it can’t be beat!

Office

The juxtaposition of the dark, moody office against the rest of the bright and airy home was intentional. Jasmine gravitated towards darker, more sultry colors and the office served as the perfect space to take a risk with the geometric wallpaper and dark blue walls.

The Story Behind This At-Home Wedding Will Tug on Your Heartstrings

Today, on my two year wedding anniversary, I get to share this couple’s heartfelt wedding, coincidentally on their one year anniversary! For Virginia and Chris a chance meeting on a cruise ship turned into a wedding day at the bride’s childhood home. In the middle of their wedding planning, Virginia’s parents got an offer they couldn’t refuse and sold their house (under the condition that everything took place after the wedding) giving Shi Shi Events the most meaningful venue to build upon. With intimate moments at every turn, Lauren Gabrielle had no shortage of photo opp’s including the bride’s former students singing the surprise recessional song after the ‘I Do’s’, a donut wall and greenery filled chandeliers by Molly Taylor and Co. So as the saying goes, as one door closes, another one certainly opened for these two….

From Shi Shi EventsWe fell in love with Virginia and Chris and their cute ‘how they met’ story the instant we met them. It was only made better by them wanting to have the wedding ceremony and reception at Virginia’s parents’ home. We adore at home weddings for their sentimentality and ultra-personal vibe; building a wedding from the ground up in a place that has so much meaning for the couple is truly a special event. A wedding’s design for us goes so far beyond just the visual elements of the day. We encourage our couples to put emotion and meaning behind all of their choices creating a day that extends past the pretty into true personal and universal meaning for them and their guests. Virginia and Chris’ wedding had meaning behind every turn. It began with an invitation featuring a sketch of the bride’s parents’ home by Momental Designs. With the house going under contract during the process of planning, the keepsake of the sketch became a treasure. On the day of the wedding the couple’s beloved dog, Heidi, made an appearance both sketched on their wedding program and as the “ring bearer” during the ceremony.

Post ceremony, our MOB arranged for some of Virginia’s former students (she’s a school teacher) to sing “You Are My Sunshine” as a surprise recessional. Their little voices were so sweet and it was such a touching moment for our bride! We wanted to play up the message in a bottle piece of their time on the cruise ship since it was the moment Chris sneaked Virginia’s phone number. We took the literal approach with guests’ escort cards being mini-messages in a bottle and a more abstract one with the wave-inspired hand-lettered flourish on their menu board, table numbers and place cards. We also centered their cocktail hour around the home’s stunning pool, adding a water element to their day. For the couple’s first dance Virginia performed and recorded “Can’t Help Falling In Love” as a surprise for Chris. It was perfect; truly beautiful.

Here is the ‘how we met’ story from the groom’s perspective…As the youngest of four in a very active family, it can be rare for us to all get together on the same schedule. However, when my parents told us they were taking us on a cruise in the eastern Caribbean, we all found a way to clear our schedules. ‘McClure party of 10’ set sail in March 2015 on a Holland America ship bound for fun and sun. Being the only single member of the group, I wasn’t expecting to meet someone while with my family, let alone on a cruise ship. On the evening of the 3rd day at sea, I happened to see a strikingly beautiful girl. As she walked through a central gathering area, she had a very confident way about her, yet she seemed very approachable. The next evening, I happened to see the same girl in the piano lounge. I decided I had to talk to her. I pulled up a seat nearby and before I knew it, I had struck up a conversation with a girl named Virginia from Ohio. I soon realized that not only was she beautiful – she was intelligent, driven, and loved to laugh.
For the rest of the trip, I found myself trying to run into her as much as possible. My family “coincidentally” showed up on the same catamaran snorkeling excursion that Virginia and her family were on. By day 5 at sea, our families had merged dining tables and we were one big happy group. By the time we had to say goodbye on the last night of the cruise, I knew for certain this wouldn’t be the last time I saw Virginia from Ohio. Three years later, we are preparing for our wedding and I couldn’t be happier to be spending the rest of my life with my best friend and love of my life.

From the Bride…My favorite part of the day was in between our ceremony and the cocktail hour. Chris and I went to a separate area of my parents home and relaxed just the two of us for 10 minutes. We tried our appetizers, had a glass of champagne, reflected on our day so far and enjoyed each other’s company before the busy-ness of the day/evening continued. These 10 minutes were more indicative of our daily life together – involving relaxation, food, and drinks – than anything else.

It was an absolute dream of mine to get married in my childhood backyard. When we got engaged, we looked at other venues just in case, but deep down I hoped it was a possibility. Thanks to Gina (Shi Shi Events) – my dream became a reality! It wasn’t until after we had officially chosen our home for the venue when my parents were approached by another family that wanted to buy it. With an offer they couldn’t turn down, they accepted (of course under the condition that it had to be after June 30). This moving element added an entirely new layer to the sentiment and meaning of our venue. The last time sleeping in my childhood bedroom was the night before our wedding. Our final memories as a family in the home were from our wedding, and while it was extremely bittersweet, it was the perfect celebration and way to open a new chapter for everyone.

The Secret to Putting a Modern Spin on Age-Old Cultural Wedding Traditions

From the fashion, to the vibrant blooms, to the architecture, to the meaningful cultural details – the beauty of this elopement inspiration from Bonnie Sen in Calcutta is truly limitless. With a little styling help from Bridelan, Bonnie and the amazing team of vendors drew inspiration from the venue, the Raj Bari – a historic elite mansion turned luxury hotel! Trust us, your jaws are going to DROP when you see the breathtaking ceremony location dressed in colorful blooms by Orchid Garden Banquet. Don’t miss the full gallery for some major inspiration!

From the Photographer, Bonnie SenI partnered with Bridelan (an Indian styling company), we went on a Calcutta trail, partly to rediscover my own roots (and Nisha Kundnani’s too, the founder of Bridelan) and partly to bring the Calcutta of our collective consciousness to the contemporary lens. I trained as an architect, so I wanted to marry architecture with fine arts. This elopement editorial is about Calcutta and its decadent beauty. It’s titled Aamar Bari, which is Bengali for ‘My Home.’

As we all know, Calcutta was the British capital of India and is a cradle of culture, films and creativity in all walks of life. The Bengali life is full of nostalgia. Life hasn’t moved on there much and people still live for art, music and cinema. We are trying to capture an aspect of this perspective in our shoot. We took our inspiration from the venue, the Raj Bari, a historic elite mansion turned into luxury hotel on the outskirts of Calcutta. The house is located in the shadows of a local temple, and lots of lush, tropical foliage and even ruins of old ‘Baris’ in that area. The antiques used to decorate the property hint at the East-meets-West history of a city like Calcutta, now Kolkata. I find that my Bengali roots often inform my work and this shoot is by far the best expression of my roots and identity even though I am American and completely multicultural.

We styled two bridal looks by Sabyasachi, India’s most famous bridal designer and couturier and an Instagram legend. The dress is made out of Kantha embroidery, a technique special to Bengal. Being a quintessential Bengali bride she had to wear a Sabyasachi outfit for the ceremony, donning a traditional mukut, or headgear made of sholapith (soft wood, handi-craft of Bengal). In India, brides from Bengal traditionally wear red for the Hindu conjugal ceremony. However, in a departure, we kept it white. Our inspiration was the white wedding dress made in Indian style, paired with red accents of Bengal. Our muse, the bride, is wearing fine uncut diamonds jewelry popularly termed as polki in India, a craft that belongs to Rajasthan but coveted by brides across the country and now even in the States. The jewelry is by Raniwala Jewellers, Jaipur.

The second look is by Naeem Khan, who has an ability to bridge cultures in an elegant and understated way. Naeem dressed Michelle Obama for the Indian state dinner at the White House. We have paired with Indian emeralds and diamonds as a interpretation of East-meets-West. Since this couple is eloping they asked their friend to officiate the wedding, keeping the event well dressed and intimate. The friend is wearing much-acclaimed designer Anamika Khanna’s three piece set comprising a lehenga skirt, cape and crop top. The florals were simple and pulled inspiration from the colors of the environment. Bright fuchsia greeted guests in the main hall of the Bari (villa) and we used those colors to create the tablescape colors and ceremony backdrop.

Colorful flowers are always a must have in any Indian wedding, so many bright flowers were used to adorn the antique rickshaw, and to create the floral arch. The invitations by NYC based stationery designer Niru & Baku were designed to be traditional, yet modern and sophisticated. Instead of traditional red colors as the accent we took inspiration from the terracotta ground to use as the accent color and wax stamps and Fuchsia accents for styling as a nod to the bougainvillea that was growing at the venue. The cake design was inspired by the celebration of the most important goddess to Hindy locals, Durga. The minimalist cake design by the Rogue Cafe was a beautiful blend of cultures. Desert also consisted of local Indian sweets from the best local shops. A welcome basket was provided for guests, filled with local goodies such as Mysore sandalwood soap, local sodas, peanut snacks and a copper water bottle to stay hydrated in.

Redoing A Kitchen For A Family of 6

No matter how hard you might try, the kitchen always ends up being the most used room in the house. After Christine Andrew, of Hello Fashion Blog, and her family moved into their new home, the kitchen needed some work for their growing family. Taking inspiration from their California surroundings, the end result is an ideal space for just about anyone! We chatted with Christine to learn all about her vision when it came to the project!

Tell us a little about yourself and your business?

I started Hello Fashion in 2011 as a means to connect with “the everyday woman” in a relatable, accessible manner over all things fashion, beauty, travel, and more. My blog has expanded to include moments of my mom life, couple’s style with my husband Cody, and most recently our home building and decor experience as we just moved into our first home.

What’s a typical work day for you like?

Balancing mom life and working from home, the 9 to 5 schedule goes out the window. When I have a lot of going on for work, I am usually up by 6:30 to get stuff done before the kids wake up. Now that I’m pregnant, sometimes that doesn’t happen, but it’s always the goal. :) Now that it’s summer and there isn’t a set schedule with the kids, no 2 days are the same. During the day, I’ll typically have a few shoots or meetings, and then after the kids go to bed I try to wrap up everything else that has stacked up on my plate throughout the day. We have someone that helps watch the kids a couple days a week and then other days kids are with me while I work.

Take us through your kitchen, what was your vision when designing the space?

I went back and forth between doing color and keeping it white. We really wanted it to feel open, warm, and welcoming. We have 3 kids (soon to be 4!) so we wanted to keep it kid-friendly and casual. We also wanted our house to have a European meets California costal feel, with mixed metals, natural wood elements with white quartz countertops.

What was the most important thing when it came to the design?

I don’t know about most important, but the elements I was most excited for were open shelves, our Italian oven, and a farmhouse sink that overlooked the view of the city below.

Are you a big cook? What are your kitchen must haves?

I am definitely more of a baker than a cook, but when we moved into our house I made a goal to cook more and now that I have more space, I am more comfortable cooking and enjoy it more. The kids are also at an age where they like to help in the kitchen, so it makes it more fun when we can do it together. My cooking must-haves: salt and garlic!

What is your favorite thing about the space?

I love the sink with the view of the city. Now that I can do dishes with a sunset view, I don’t know if I can ever go back!

What, if any, were some of the challenges with bringing your vision to life?

One of our challenges over all was envisioning how everything would piece together. I am such a hands-on, visual person so it was really hard for me to picture the end result without actually walking through the space or seeing the vision before it came to life. We used a designer (@erinhansendesign) and she really helped so much making sure everything flowed! When they first put our countertops in, I thought the color was too gray and was convinced we had to pick out new countertops, but once we got the walls and cabinets painted, I was obsessed with the full effect. You don’t realize how much all of the pieces can play off each other until they are all installed and now the countertops are one of my favorite parts of the kitchen.

What are your favorite places to shop for kitchen pieces? (decor or cookware)

Mcgee & Co – they have that perfect California costal vibe that we love and we got a lot of our kitchen decor from there. I also love Crate and Barrel and you can never go wrong with Target.  Wayfair is also a lifesaver with their fast shipping. And I can’t forget Anthropolgie!

What’s on your home ‘wish list’ right now?

Keeping my house clean, ;) On a more realistic note, we have a lot of glassware but all we need to complete the set are cute tumblers that are both kid and family friendly. I’m also on the lookout for a new silverware set – somehow we lost half our utensils in the move!

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone embarking on a project like this?

Having a designer was a huge help to us since she could visualize the end results better than we ever could have! If that’s not in your budget, take the time to put together a mood board. You can paste all your finishes and decor inspiration into Photoshop or, if you aren’t digitally inclined, print every piece out and add it to a pin board. It’s also important to have a clear budget in mind and prioritize what’s most important to you. Start with the items that you can’t live without first to see where they fall in the budget and go from there. That way you are spending on those items that are most important to you so when you have to compromise due to budget, it’s on those items that are further down your priority list.  If you are building a space with a significant other, ask what their must-haves are. Even though I made most of the decisions and was the biggest voice in the process, I really wanted to make sure I included Cody’s priorities as well.

One thing I wish we had done different – think ahead! Even though we knew we wanted to have another baby, we weren’t pregnant at the time of building so there are little things like having space for only 3 bar stools instead of 4 that you don’t think of until too late. Definitely plan ahead and make sure it’s a space that will fit you and your family perfectly for years to come. But overall I am so excited how the space turned out and can’t wait to make lots of memories here!

Bringing East Coast Hamptons Vibes to a 9-0-2-1-0 Zip Code

Luxe and Beverly Hills go hand in hand but this home tour goes far beyond your average 90210 digs. With the help of Design Works, the space was transformed into a mix of East Coast elegance and California cool. Take the full tour captured by Ryan Garvin that’s bringing the Hamptons to the West Coast.

We previously worked with these clients on their other homes and were delighted when they wanted to partner with us on their Beverly Hills project. The couple are empty nesters who have many children – and grandchildren – most of them currently living on the East Coast.

Their goal for this house was to create an inviting and warm home for everyone to enjoy during the holidays and large family gatherings. This home definitely reflects their East Coast roots with the stylish Hamptons vibe, but also still has a laid-back-luxe SoCal, family-friendly feel as well.

We were able to incorporate some of the couple’s previous furniture, which had a more traditional style – but changing out the pillows and accessories made it purposeful and helped create a more up-to-date feel.

We love the Great Room! This area provides a lot of seating with the sofa, chairs and ottomans – which was a must for their large extended family. It is located directly off of the open kitchen where everyone loves to congregate.

The great room also provides an effortless flow to the outdoor space where the family can entertain, swim, and lounge almost year-round. Having the room positioned between the kitchen and outdoor space really makes it the true heart of the home.

From Rossini Weddings… Our inspirational shoot by Koman Photography took place on the breath-taking shores of Lake Como, Italy at the exquisite Villa Balbiano. Creatively directed and planned by Rossini Weddings and styled by Saint and Sage, this shoot was the epitome of all that is beautiful and glamorous about Italian lakefront weddings.

Unsurprisingly, the Villa was the main source of inspiration for this shoot; we wanted to create ethereal imagery that is light, airy and mixed with an opulent palette of rich textures which we pulled from the fresco wall coverings.

Chiara Sperti created a stunning scene for the tablescape centerpiece with delicate shades of pink and pops of bright fuschia. The table was draped with a silk runner by Allegoria Textile Delights and the candlelight offset the muted colors of the stone fresco walls and architectural elegance. The Elegance tableware range, paired with gold flatware and the pink Rosealine glassware from Table Set Rentals were the perfect companions to the table design.

The bride started the day in delicate French lingerie by The Lace Atelier, and her stunning gown by Musat Brides was accessorized with Bella Belle Shoes, Karlin Anderson Ring and beautiful earrings by Lindsay Marie Designs. Her hair was gracefully styled by the ever-talented Frank Giacone and her make-up perfected by Veronica Tavella. The groom wore a classically sleek black suit by Isaia Menswear.

The three-tiered cake from Qualcosa diDolce was a masterful combination of modern design and romantic imagination, the ornate gold detail complimented the textures of the venue. And providing the perfect addition to any wedding – the prosecco reception was provided by the iconic little pop-up prosecco van Bubble Bar Italia.

Complimenting the venue’s inspiration, a beautiful stationery suite was designed by NicNillas Ink, with a hand-drawn illustration of the Villa, produced on soft handmade paper with bronze envelopes.

Finally, as every Lake Como wedding must soak in the full expanse of the lake’s to-die-for views, our couple sailed away on a luxury Riva boat by Erio Lario, wearing swimwear by JETS and resort wear by Isaia Menswear with chic sunglasses by Finlay London.

Looking for the Perfect Dream Garden Wedding Venue in California? Here it is.

Today’s Bride is here to tell you that Pinterest wedding dreams really do come true. A decade before she say I do to the man of her dreams, she had pinned Beaulieu Garden (one of my personal faves ever!) and little did she know she’d actually find herself living with her love just 50 miles from the venue. Needless to say, today’s fete is her garden wedding dream realized thanks to the help of Alexis at Cole Drake Events, Paula LeDuc and Loop Event Arts. The incredible Joel Serrato captured it all and I truly hope it lands it’s way on your Pinterest wedding board too and inspires your Big Day.

From the bride… Tom and I met in through a mutual friend shortly after I moved to San Francisco in 2013. Over the next few years we would be lucky enough to share our love of travel. I can specifically remember having a picnic in the garden at Versailles and discussing how we could find no greater joy than spending time together in a beautiful, sunny garden.

Gardens are like epic romance – grand and intimate all at the same time. They represent a balance that is similar to the way I feel balanced when I am with Tom. As someone with very traditional taste, I also love the fact that Gardens are timeless and can make you feel like you are transported to any period in time. It was no wonder I had seen a Beaulieu Garden wedding on a Pinterest board 10+ years prior and had thought it was the perfect place to get married. Little did I know that by 2017 I would not only be engaged to the man of my dreams, but I would be living in San Francisco just 50 miles from Beaulieu Garden and Napa Valley. Serendipity some might say!

Napa as a destination was not a tough sell. Both our families live in California and all of our east coast friends from college would never turn down a trip to world class wine country. It only took the drive down the tree lined drive way for Tom and my Mom to be sold on the magic of Beaulieu Garden, too. There is something so whimsical about the property. It feels both spectacularly dramatic and comfortably familiar all at the same time. Like being at a close friends house, if your close friend lived on a European estate! It also feels like a true secret garden, tucked up against the hills like you’d hardly realize it was there.

With the venue as the main inspiration, all we needed were a few fairy god mothers to make this romantic secret garden come to life. This is when we met Alexis from Cole Drake Events and the fabulous team from Paula Le Duc. I told Alexis on that first day that I wanted the wedding to feel effortless like “magical garden fairies came and set the table.” So, we set off on the most important piece of that- flowers. After scouring Instagram and Style Me Pretty, I discovered Anna of Loop Flowers. Anna had me at “Hellebore” which quickly became the inspiration for the color palette and esthetic. Anna and Alexis were huge in making our vision come to life.

Tablescape was the next biggest piece. My mother threw beautiful parties when I was growing up and we wanted it to feel like one of hers- unique with color and unusual with texture. As if everything came from the pantry collection at an old English estate. The vintage silver flatware and floral vessels, the patterned, stitched table cloth, and the colored goblets all felt owned and collected. I especially loved the iron chairs and sweet twinkle lights because they felt like they were permanently in the garden, adding to the feeling of effortlessness. Anna also installed an incredible masterpiece of hanging floral and floating votives over the head table to really add that “magical fairy touch.” For escort cards I found vintage brass keys as if to give every guest a key to the secret garden where dinner took place. These were laid amongst a collection of potted plants and ferns- just like you’d find a hidden key under a pot in your own garden.

Guest were welcomed by a beautiful hand painted silk sign (by Meredith Law) and a fresh lemonade as they were brought into the garden. The ceremony was a dream. I remember finally reaching Tom as the wind picked up and played through the trees like music. Colored fall leaves floated down like it was actually raining love and laughter often erupted from the crowd. Our guests waved blue ribbon wands (that I hand made) to send us down the isle with mess free whimsy! In lieu of formal guest books, I had our guests sign a collection of my favorite cook books and coffee table books. I still enjoy finding a surprise note when I am cooking today! As an alumni of the Cornell Hotel School, my expectations for food and service are often high and Paula Le Duc far and beyond exceeded all expectations throughout the entire event. I still dream of the Braised Short Rib Beggars Purses that were served at cocktail hour.

With endless emails, phone calls, meetings, and inspiration research, we spent a year of planning this incredible day. The day is over before you know it and all you have to relive it are the photographs. This is why selecting a photographer you trust is arguably the most important decision next to “I do.” Alexis can attest to my indecisiveness around this important decision up until she connected me with Joel. Joel has a way of putting you at ease which allows him to capture you as the real couple you are. He doesn’t just capture images, he captures feelings and experiences. I can still look at his photos today and remember exactly how I felt in that moment. He captured the soul of our day and a big piece of our hearts! Tom had never really had professional photos taken before, but after our trip to Solvang to shoot our engagement photos with Joel- Tom felt so incredibly comfortable and Joel had turned him into a pro!

To keep with the idea of timelessness, we chose simple silhouettes for my dress and the bridesmaids and classic tuxedos for the boys. We wanted to look back on photos and feel as though the wedding could have happened yesterday. While weddings typically place so much emphasis on the bride, we wanted Tom to have a big moment, too. He switched into a white dinner jacket for the reception which was a big hit!

The night ended with dancing, unforgettable photos against the flower wall, and passed espresso martinis which are a favorite of ours. Guest were sent off to the after party with house made chocolate covered pretzels for a sweet and savory end to a sweet and savory night.

Registry talk.

A registry is essentially a curation of all the items the couple wants and needs for their new life together. So if you’re looking to gift them something they’ll love and use throughout the years, this is your best bet. (You BFF has, after all, been dreaming about having her own KitchenAid for years!). Want it to feel more personal? Pair your selection with a sweet message (I can’t wait for a baking day with you!) to make it feel all the more special.

Still want to give them something physical that’s not already been scanned for? Going off-registry is okay too! (Just be sure to browse their registry ahead of time to make sure it’s in sync with their style.)

The cash debate.

We’ll get this out there right away: giving cash is A-Ok. That said, it’s a bit more of a complicated option than, say, giving them a dish set off their registry. Here’s why: While an amount can be seen as particularly generous to one couple, it may be perceived as stingy to another. If you know the couple well, you should be able to dodge this scenario. However, if not, consider going with a gift card to one of the stores they registered for.

Spending sense.

Speaking of cash, knowing how much to shell out can depend on a few things (which no longer includes the price-per-plate etiquette!). These include your relationship with the duo (are they a close BFF or a distant cousin?) and the location of the event (NYC vs. a more laid-back setting). With this mindset, you can ensure a close pal holding a more casual affair will still be gifted appropriately compared to, say, your v. classy coworker’s wedding.

The below guide from Zola.com lays this out nicely:

  • For coworkers or distant relatives: $50-$75
  • For friends or relatives: $75-$100
  • For besties, immediate family, or people in the wedding party: $100-$150+
  • If you get a plus one on your invite, opt for 1.5-2x more
  • Suggested: If the wedding is in a big, urban city: $150-200+

Bridal party etiquette.

Calling all members of the bride tribe! There are a few things to note. Like, you should be buying a gift for both the shower and the wedding, going in on a group item with the other ‘maids is fine, and you may be expected to expense other small things that pop up.

However, before you begin sweating over the finances (we get it, it can be a lot!) consider this option: If you’re in the wedding party, an expensive selection isn’t expected. If you’re already paying a hefty fee for flights, hotels, dresses, the bachelorette party and more, getting the couple something small and meaningful (like a personalize scrapbook or frame of you two) is just as good as a high-end item in their book. Now you know!

Going all in.

We’ll be frank, newlyweds loveee receiving their coveted, big-ticket items. So rather than opting to take out a loan to do so (kidding!), it’s a terrific idea to band together with a few friends on one more pricey item. (Hint hint: Bridal party, this is a great option for you!)

Timing is everything.

Traditionally its been thought that you have up to one year to present the happy couple with their present. However, we’re here to tell you this custom has changed. Thanks largely in part to online registries and faster shipping (looking at you Prime!), the new timeline you should abide by is up to two months after their wedding. And if you’re really looking to hit the sweet spot on timing, send your selection about two weeks before their wedding (straight to their residence, of course!).

Year-round registry.

The good news about a couple’s registry is that it serves as the perfect way to pick something out for all of their celebrations throughout the year. From Christmas to birthdays, their scans are all fair game (and some of the best opportunities to ensure the new Mr. and Mrs. cross off all the items they’ve been eyeing!)

These Are Your Bridal Suite Must-Haves According to A Wedding Photographer

As a photographer who spends hours upon hours with the bride getting ready, I have seen more bridal suites than I ever thought I would. Some are gorgeous and perfect for photos while other suites might as well be a dungeon with zero necessary amenities. Photographers can only work so much magic if there’s a bad bridal suite and if you love stunning getting ready photos, these are your bridal suite must-haves to achieve that! In addition, you’ll learn exactly what essentials you should have in your suite.

Windows, Windows, and More Windows

Windows probably weren’t the first thing you expected to be on my list of bridal suite must-haves. As a photographer, it’s one of the most crucial elements to achieving beautiful light and airy images.  I always encourage brides to choose a suite that has at least two windows in order for the light to be ideal.

If your venue’s bridal suite doesn’t have windows, stay far away and choose a hotel room instead! Hotels with light, neutral colored walls and carpets or hardwood photograph will yield the cleanest look. When booking the hotel room, request a suite with at least two windows or even a corner room. You’ll be so glad you did!

A Designated Corner for Wardrobe Items

The amount of time photographers spend cleaning up shoes, makeup, and clothing from bridesmaids, moms, and the bride can really cut into the time they have to photograph you. To avoid this, designate one closet or corner, ideally far from pretty window light, for clothing, accessories, food, etc. Not only will your photographer appreciate this, you’ll also end up with little to no clutter in the background of your photos!

A Full Length Mirror

Hopefully your suite already has a full-length mirror, but if not, make arrangements to have one brought to the room. You’ll absolutely want to take a peek at yourself from head to toe before leaving your suite for photos. I actually changed in a spa bathroom at my venue then walked into a gorgeous hallway for zipping up photos. It wasn’t until I caught my reflection in my hotel hallway window at the end of the day that I realized I never saw myself head to toe. I really wish I had thought to do that! Don’t forget like I did!

Snacks and Water

Hydrating and eating properly on the morning of the wedding day is a must! Whether you’re up for a full breakfast and lunch or simply little snacks or protein shakes here and there, you should never go into your photos and ceremony without eating. Plan to have healthy, low-sodium foods that are higher in fats and protein in your bridal suite. Healthy fats like avocado will help you feel full much longer than toast, for example, and low-sodium foods will prevent bloating.

Not only it is important to eat, you should also hydrate with water throughout the wedding day. The earlier you start drinking water (i.e. days before the wedding), the better you’ll feel and the more clear and bright your skin will be. Especially if you’ll be consuming alcohol throughout the day, hydrating with water is a must!

A Fabric Steamer

Wrinkles don’t make for flawless photos of anybody’s gown and nobody wants to try out the steamy shower trick on the morning of the wedding day. Enlist somebody to bring a fabric steamer to your bridal suite and have a bridesmaid or family member steam your gown and your bridesmaids’ gowns. This ensures the dresses are pristine before leaving the suite!

Champagne and Music

Whether you want tranquil spa music or exciting top 40 pop music playing in your suite, have a bridesmaid bring a small speaker so your room isn’t too quiet. In addition, I recommend buying a bottle or two of your favorite champagne to enjoy responsibly while getting ready. Champagne toasts make for really adorable bridesmaid photos and I recommend requesting these from your photographer!

A Home That Nails the Bright and Airy Aesthetic

Imagine a modern home getting all nice and cozy with farmhouse vibes and you’re on the right track. This space is a light, bright, shiplap heaven designed by Jessica Dolan of 2540 Love and captured by Alyssa Rosenheck (who also has some major styling skills might I add). Take the full tour of this Kentucky home where every nook and cranny just gets better and better. #ThatKitchenThough

From AlyssaAs an interiors photographer and stylist, I love helping my clients produce and find the right balance of layering accessories for the lens! We added character with a few vintage rugs and beautiful throws and her kitchen came to life literally when I envisioned greenery for her beautiful open shelves! This is what I like to call proof of life… I sprinkle it throughout the homes I shoot!! This was a very light, bright, and fun collaboration with designer, Jessica Dolan of 2540Love.com. Plus, on shoots and leading up to the big day teamwork is the foundation of true success and this is what Jessica and I embodied. I am thrilled to share some of her design choices per room that will really resonate with everyone who gravitates towards achieving a bright and airy aesthetic for their home.

LIVING ROOM: All the interior walls were removed in the living room as well. White shiplap replaced drywall to create a neutral backdrop while providing interest and texture. We chose a natural fiber rug layered with a vintage rug, 2 leather bench seat sofas and a custom built coffee table for this space. We layered buffalo check, mudcloth and other patterned pillows on the sofas which provide visual interest (and comfort) without being too matchy matchy.

ENTRY: The front door was changed to a 4 light wooden door to allow as much natural light as possible. The coat closet was removed allowing more space in the master suite located on the other side of the wall. The carpeted stairs and wooden handrail were removed and replaced with white oak hardwood treads finished with a custom European oil finish and custom metal railing. A door was added under the stairs to take advantage of the storage space.

SITTING ROOM + OFFICE: In this space we removed all the walls and added custom built ins painted the same white as the shiplap throughout. We also replaced the fireplace mantle with a custom built raw white oak mantle and painted the brick fireplace the same white.

We layered a vintage rug in the office space and added a custom made desk with West Elm office chair. In the sitting room we chose 4 swivel arm chairs in a sturdy linen weave fabric, a round, marble top coffee table and a cowhide rug.

DINING ROOM: There was no true pantry in the kitchen so after eliminating the wall between the kitchen and dining we opted for a whole wall of pantry cabinets in the dining space. A white and brass cone pendant, round white oak table and easily wipeable white chairs were chosen for this space.

KITCHEN: We wanted everything to stay light and bright throughout the home but didn’t necessarily want an all white kitchen. We chose navy for the custom built base cabinetry and honed Carrara marble countertops. We then went with classic square subway tile, modern brass hardware and custom white oak floating shelving to bring a bit of fun and whimsy to this classic kitchen.

MASTER BATH: The Carrara marble hexagon floor tile used throughout the bathroom and shower add dimension and texture to this serene space. Classic hardware and mirrors were chosen to mix metals and compliment the brass chandelier and sconces.

MASTER BEDROOM: The master suite boasts an upholstered sleigh bed with white linen bedding topped off with a striped wool pompom blanket purchased at a local boutique.

From JessicaOriginally the house was a cape cod style with a low roofline, flat facade and red reclaimed brick. We added a shed dormer in the bonus room and arched front porch entry to add dimension and interest. The reclaimed brick was painted Sherwin Williams Pure White. The shutters were removed and cedar lintels added above the windows. The interior architecture of the main level was classic 70s with a small foyer with coat closet, carpeted staircase and separate living room, family room, dining room and kitchen. There were two main level bedrooms with a shared hall bath in between. We wanted to completely update every nook and cranny of this 1970s home. Opening up all the main living spaces was ideal for this family of five and allowed us to incorporate functionality and the beauty of natural light. Each zone was created to flow right into the next allowing conversation to carry from space to space.
