6 Bachelorette Planning Mistakes to Avoid

Hey, ladies! If you’re planning, attending or hosting a bachelorette party in the near future for your engaged bestie – then listen up, ‘cause this one’s for you! Who to invite, who not to invite, how to deal with paying for it all and everything in between, we’re dishing all the advice on everything to avoid when planning the ultimate bachelorette party!

Marni Rothschild Pictures

1. Timing

If you ask us, we suggest hosting your bach when there’s still plenty of time before the wedding! 1-3 months before is the sweet spot for grabbing your girls and celebrating your upcoming “I do’s.” Truth be told, it’s the perfect amount of time before the wedding – the majority of the planning is done, those excited feelings are really starting to rush in, and it gives plenty of time to recover in case the festivities get a little too much fun ;) Just be sure to allow plenty of time to plan the party, because we all know how jam-packed a bride-to-be’s schedule can get before the big day!

2. The Guest List

This one seems like a no-brainer, but it’s worth mentioning, because we’ve all seen some feelings get hurt in the wedding invite department. The bachelorette party guest list should be a small group of the bride’s closest friends who are also invited to the wedding. Anyone who is in the bridal party should automatically get an invitation, but the bachelorette is also the perfect time to include some of the bride’s close friends who aren’t in the bridal party to make them feel special too, besides… the more the merrier, right? Just make sure to run the final guest list by the bride!

3. Unrealistic Expectations

We blame this one on the movies. There is an unrealistic expectation that the bachelorette party needs to be the most amazing, insane, epic experience and if it is anything short of mind-altering incredible it was somehow a failure of a tribute to the bride.

This could not be further from the truth for bachelorette parties in the real world.

It’s important to remember what is most important when it comes to planning a bachelorette party: being together with your closest friends, relaxing and celebrating the last little bits of your single status! That’s it. Everything else – the parties, the Instagram-able moments, the signature cocktails, the matching t-shirts, the swag bags – it’s all just gravy, so do it your way!

It’s also a good idea to keep in mind the cost of the event, whether it be vacation days or a hefty price tag – make sure the activities are within everyone’s budget and realistic for their schedules.

4. Poor Planning

Whatever you decide to do, we can’t say enough how important it is to plan, plan, plan! Decide in advance on where you’re going to go, how you’re going to get there, a list of activities and, of course, how you will get home. If everyone knows all the details, there will be no room for surprises or unhappy guests!

Don’t be a bachelorette party dictator, but there needs to be a leader who sets a schedule before everyone arrives. In advance, you can all talk about what you want to do, have those exciting conversations and do the research, so when you are in the moment, you aren’t trying to decide where to eat as everyone is getting hangrier and hangrier.

Don’t forget to schedule some downtime! Your girls are going to love the fun activities you have planned, but make sure there’s plenty of time to recover, relax and just enjoy being in the moment with your best girls.

Valorie Darling

5. Planning YOUR Dream Bach, Not the Bride’s

If you’re planning a bachelorette party for your friend, the bride, make sure it’s a party she would want. The last thing you want is for her to be uncomfortable or awkward, or even worse, disappointed. Don’t plan the party YOU want, plan the party she wants. If she is more chill, then a PJ-inspired girls weekend with chick flicks and pedicures it is. If she is a wild child, then bottoms up and off to somewhere fun!

The bachelorette party theme or location will really depend on what makes the bride happy and what her ideal party with her friends looks like. Her idea of a party might be different than your idea of a party, and that’s totally okay!

6. Talking About Money Too Late

When it comes to the bachelorette party, the money conversations need to happen right away. Trust us, don’t wait until you’ve already maxed out the credit card for a weekend away treating your friends like royalty when she would have been just as happy with a girls night closer to home.

We totally get it, nothing is as uncomfortable to talk about than money. But if you spend money that you don’t have on your friend’s bachelorette party – that is a recipe for disaster! It is so important that you are honest with your friends about how much you can afford and what will be possible on your budget. They’re your friends – they will totally understand!

Before the bachelorette party weekend, make sure everyone has a money sharing or payment app that allows you to keep track of expenses. When using an app like Pro Party Planner or Travefy, everyone can easily see who owes who how much. It does all the math for you and it sends your friends reminders to settle up. An app like this makes things SO much easier all you, the bride and the guests of honor!

[field title=”Food & Drink”]To set the mood during cocktail hour, we served refreshing Aperol Spritz and bubbly Prosecco, creating an effervescent atmosphere that perfectly complemented the Mediterranean backdrop. For dinner, our culinary experience was steeped in the rich traditions of Italian cuisine, with a sumptuous spread of typical Italian dishes that celebrated the region’s vibrant culinary heritage. From a mouth watering Basil risotto with parmesan sauce and tartare of “Fassona” beef to fresh seafood, our wedding feast was a delicious ode to the heart and soul of Positano.[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Rosalinda Wedding Flowers curated romantic, lush floral decorations with flowers in sunset hues. For the ceremony, the couple chose a stunning terrace overlooking the Amalfi coast, which was adorned with lush flower decorations in vases on white stands.
The reception took place al fresco, with an imperial table for the bridal party and round tables for guests. Light blue table cloths matched perfectly with delicate ivory charger plates and cutlery. Personalised scalloped blush napkins were tied using hand crafted crepe paper flowers in the hues of sunset.

Bright And Pastel Shades Fill This Bridgerton-Inspired California Wedding

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

We wanted the color to reflect the vibrant and regal colors of the Bridgerton era. We have chosen a color palette that includes a mix of bright and pastel shades reminiscent of the Regency period’s opulent and romantic style. – Purple and Soft Lavender, Dusty Blue, Warm Coral, Peach, Blush Pink, and Gold. We incorporate these colors into various elements of the wedding, including the decor, attire, flowers, and stationery

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The The Blushing Details, led by the Carol Keiner, known for her exceptional creativity and meticulous attention to detail, created and planned a modern twist on a Bridgerton-inspired wedding for the couple Angeline and Hamed. With her expertise, she embarked on a journey to infuse timeless romance with contemporary charm, bringing the couple’s dream to life. Carol had a brilliant idea, helping Angeline and Hamed brand their wedding with the assistance of La Design Boutique. Together, they crafted a unique silhouette of the couple, lovingly taken from one of their cherished engagement pictures. This silhouette became the soul of their wedding decor, gracing their cake, invitations, and all their stationery.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Angeline and Hamed are college sweethearts. They like to say the Dalai Lama brought them together after they both attended an event in Inglewood where the Dalai Lama was speaking in 2014. Angeline was covering the event for their college newspaper, and Hamed attended for their college radio station. After they both graduated from Cal State LA in 2016, they spent two years apart doing long distance as Angeline attended grad school in Berkeley. When she graduated in 2018, she and Hamed went on a Europe trip, where Hamed popped the question overlooking the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. During their first year engaged, they spent another year apart as Angeline accepted a job offer in New York City. She came back nine months later, and they immediately tied the knot at the Beverly Hills Courthouse in an intimate ceremony with just their immediate family. Angeline and Hamed are a creative couple, so they wanted to share their interests and their story with their wedding guests in unique ways. For instance, on every table, they had a QR code linking out to a podcast they produced before the wedding that walked through significant songs in their relationship.

Angeline was a vision of timeless beauty in the “Karina” dress by Abella Bride on her wedding day to Hamad. She had found this gown at Bellasposa Bridal, where she instantly fell in love with its regal elegance and intricate details. As the bride, she aspired to embody the essence of a “diamond,” a young lady of the court chosen by the queen herself for her exceptional grace and charm from the series Bridgerton.

Angeline and Hamed’s quest to craft a unique and delicious drink for their Bridgerton-inspired wedding led them to EJ Cayaban, the talented mixologist behind Barkada LA. With an understanding of the couple’s love for the Bridgerton era, EJ set out to create a drink receipt that would be a tribute to the couple’s love story.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Jina Choi of De Flora Event Flowers created the most amazing flower designs for the wedding, from the floral arch, the florals on the gate, and the floating flowers above the long tables in the reception space. Jina used a combination of greenery, roses, and florals that were in season to achieve a beautiful, garden-lush look throughout the wedding space.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

Branding their wedding was a dream come true, thanks to the talented Anna from La Design Boutique. With her artistic touch, Angelina and Hamed brought their love story to life by creating a unique silhouette of one of our cherished engagement pictures. This silhouette became the heart of our wedding decor and gracing their cake with real flower.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

As a couple who works in the entertainment industry (Angeline works as an entertainment reporter for Good Morning America, and Hamed owns his own sound design studio in Hollywood called Melody Gun), they wanted guests to feel like they were in the world of Bridgerton, which is Angeline’s favorite Netflix show. They worked together to make that happen by creating a personalized Lady Whistledown program for guests, Bridgerton-themed drinks and made sure that the string quartet continued to play during the reception.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]The couple opted for a condensed Catholic ceremony, which was officiated by Father Brian Delvaux of the Good Shepherd Church before the couple exchanged their own written vows. To honor the bride’s Filipino heritage, their sponsors draped a veil and cord over the couple and lit a unity candle to signify their union. In honor of the groom’s Iranian heritage, the couple took part in an Aghd ceremony where the officiant, Ali Ghadaksaz, led a sugar and honey ceremony.

As far as traditions go, the bride and groom paid tribute to the bride’s filipino heritage with the guests’ party favors. Each guest received a fan that was made in the Philippines and had the couple’s hashtag on it.

To honor the groom’s persian heritage, they had a Sofreh (see descriton in #1), which had a Quran, Persian desserts, coins and more.
[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]The ceremony was which was decorated with a floral gate, a grand Sofreh Aghd and a floral arch. At their seats was a Lady Whistledown-inspired program and a wooden fan from the Philippines that was embossed with the couple’s hashtag. [/field]

Whimsical Garden Party Vibes in the Heart of Downtown Raleigh

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

All shades of Pink, Yellow (The Groom’s Late Mother’s favorite Color), Light Blue, Lilac & all fun summer colors!!

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The moto for the wedding was “Whimsical Garden Party”. The Bride, Maddie, works in the Wedding Industry herself and had seen over 200+ so when the planning began she knew exactly what she wanted and most importantly what she didn’t want. Color was SUPER important while also being fun and special to us as it truly is a representation as our lives together and our relationship, which was exactly what the entire day was! The little details were also super important to the couple as the bridal has a degree in Interior Design and also works on graphics. She herself custom designed every detail from the table numbers to the invitation suite, the bar menus and the custom Wedding Crest that featured their pup Sully who also made a special appearance on the Wedding Day!

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Maddie and Will were not High School Sweethearts but instead were middle school sweethearts who started dating in 8th Grade and have been inseparable ever since. Last year in Charleston, SC the two planned a weekend trip after Will got back from a very long and intense internship in Pennsylvania and the two had spent months apart from each other. Maddie had been sending Will pictures of rings and places to go in Charleston, which included a pink house which had been all over TikTok! Little did Maddie know that on the second day in Charleston Will would take Maddie to that same house she was obsessed with on Tik Tok and get down on one knee and propose to her with not a ring that he bought but instead his late Mother’s ring that Will had polished and cleaned just for this moment but never had told Maddie. Let’s just say that Maddie was sobbing so much that a pedestrian walked by and asked if she was okay, we told her and she took a selfie with us to show her friends. The photo was so bad that Maddie refuses to show anyone because she had been crying for so long!

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]

Going into Wedding Dress shopping I knew exactly what I wanted and had it saved on my Tik Tok for months before getting engaged as I had just seen Bridal capes make an appearance and I was OBSESSED! The next week I had a trip planned to Austin, TX to see my MOH and best friend and she had planned a visit to a bridal shop while I was there so she could be apart of the dress shopping experience. Little did we know that that exact dress I had saved on Tik Tok and the cape was at that store. I had the whole bridal moment, cried and all, but there was on small issue. My mom or grandmas were there to see the dress and feel the emotions and honestly felt like they weren’t able to be apart of the experience. After many weeks crying and trying to get the dress out of my mind we went back shopping with my mom and grandmas in North Carolina and found a dress that I knew I could somehow transform into the dress I fell in love with. I purchased the dress with a complete vision in my head, took it to the sweetest seamstresses in Raleigh and you could see the fear in their eyes but I had trust and faith in them. After many months of honestly stressing those poor ladies out my dream dress came to life and we even were able to take pearls off of my mothers wedding dress and all them onto the sleeves of my cape and scattered them throughout the cape itself. It truly is a one of a find custom dress just for me and I will never ever forget it! Was truly one of my favorite pieces of the day!

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]

I knew I wanted to be different and allow my bridesmaids to select dresses that were not only a representation of them but that they also felt beautiful in, however, I did make sure to give them some parameters just to narrow down their search. These included no strapless necklines because that was my dress neckline, and they all needed to be pink, as the groom is a die-hard NC State Fan, his one request was that there be no light blue, but that didn’t really happen as the linens and florals featured what he calls “Carolina Blue”. All of the dresses were from Revolve but from different brands/designers.

[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]

I wanted the Groom to stand out just slightly from everyone else so we chose a “blue” that was slightly lighter than the groomsmen attire so that he would stand out just enough to have his own moment and honestly everyone loved it, even the groom. I also wanted the “blue” to have some texture and also be more of a chambray color to really give off the summer wedding feel and match the color palette!

[field title=”Food & Drink”]

As a big foodie couple we wanted to feature a variety of food stations that were interactive for our guests and we truly had so many compliments!! It featured 3 interactive food stations that showcased a variety of tacos and nachos with endless toppings, mini chicken and beef slides with dips and toppings and last but not least, out favorite, the mashed potato and tater tot bar, which was a HIT! After dinner we then allowed guests to join us for our favorite Raleigh sweet treat, Two Roosters Ice Cream and small desserts from our caterer.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Throughout the entire wedding planning process the bride had a ranking of importance of vendors and items, and florals was always the number one priority, which the brides father though was just insane, but he just went along with it. The first thing the brides dad mentioned to her after the ceremony was “okay you were right, the flowers do look fabulous and they make it!”. AT that moment I knew it was worth it because the man who never ever is worried or thinks about the way things look actually complimented and noticed the flowers. Ever since that day every single person or guest who sees a photo will tell you that they are obsessed with the florals and that they have never seen so many flowers in their life and that it just made the event and I couldn’t agree more!

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

Instead of cake, which the couple doesn’t really like, they chose to have their favorite ice cream in Raleigh and ever, at their wedding. The couple is just slightly obsessed with their icecream and you can even find their engagement photos at the Two Roosters Ice Cream storefront on their website, instagram, page and even their newsletters as they were the first to take engagement pictures at Two Roosters. Let’s just saw the workers always know their orders when they walk in! They chose to have their vintage icecream bus and even had custom spoons made for their guests that had their initials on them!!

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

The song my parents walked down the aisle to was their wedding song which they did not know about and was a little sweet surprise for them! The bride and her dad also have a unique and goofy relationship in which they did a choreographed upbeat dance instead of a traditional slow father daughter dance like most and then at the end allowed the crowd to join in the fun and opened up the dancefloor for the night!

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

We incorporated yellow roses throughout the entire floral decor and design as a nod to the groom’s late mother as it was her favorite flower!

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

The bride surprised the groom with a live painting from Jill Danville but little did he know that there were a few surprises hidden in the image as a symbol/to recognize his late mother. Lets just say tears were shed but not only him but the entire family!

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

The Bride and her grandpa handmade all of the lattice pieces together that were used for ceremony backdrop and the seating chart. They spent a weekend together bonding and creating them together and it was so special to see all of the hard work actually on the day of the wedding![/field]

A Whimsical Palette and Snowcapped Mountains at Devil’s Thumb Ranch

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”The Inspiration”]The inspiration behind this shoot was my admiration for the soft etherial look that gardens emit. I wanted to mix that component in with the rustic look of a Colorado ranch wedding venue and make it something unique and beautiful. [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Dusty blue, lavender, blush, and cream[/field]
[field title=”The Venue”]Devil’s Thumb Ranch was the absolute perfect backdrop for this design! This was intentionally set in early June, when the grass is newly green, almost lime green, from being so new and fresh in Spring. The combination with the snowcapped mountains in the background gave it an almost surreal moment straight out of your dreams![/field]

[section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Every design detail was very intentional. I always love creating different looks for the tables and having them fit together cohesively into one polished look. This was no different. For the indoor table, we used a blue floral tablecloth with lavender napkins. The table settings are a little more traditional and clean so it doesn’t feel overwhelming agains the patterned linen. For the outdoor table, I wanted the table to balance out the beautiful blue sky and used a velvet light blue linen. It’s literally the same color as the sky was that day and worked beautifully balancing out the colors! Since the linen was plain, I had a little more fun with the place setting using a patterned charger and plates. Had both tables been next to each other, they would balance each other out wonderfully because the one thing that brought everything together was the soft and etherial flowers! Different hues of pink, lavender and cream against the greenery of the flowers brought the greens from the grass out and in turn is pleasing to the eye. I can never stop starring at this complete look as it was perfect for the venue and the mountain backdrops. [/field]
[field title=”Favorite Design Element”]My favorite design elements were definitely the outdoor tablescape. It just looks so good against the Colorado mountain range. Its as if it belongs there! The lounge was also a fascinating touch to the scenery and the cake trio should definitely make an appearance at weddings more often. The flowers of course help it all pull together nicely in one perfectly cohesive look![/field]
[field title=”Tips To Pull Off The Look”]Don’t be afraid of patterns and color! Play around with it! It’ll surprise you when you actually see it all together! I always like to look at things in person to make sure it’s cohesive so don’t be afraid to do mockups with your rental company or ask your wedding planner for a mockup appointment! [/field]

A Classic Spring Wedding in Taormina Overlooking the Sea

[section title=”The Planning”]

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The town of Taormina, nestled in the heart of Sicily, with its narrow winding streets, vibrant flowers cascading from balconies, and panoramic views that leave you breathless. Taormina is a place where time stands still and love takes center stage. In this picturesque town, Cynthia and Simon celebrated their special day in a truly romantic and timeless way. They chose the stunning Villa Mon Repos, a picturesque villa perched on a hillside overlooking the sparkling sea below. This venue was both their getting-ready location and their reception venue. This elegant villa perfectly captured the exclusive and sophisticated atmosphere they desired. An additional classic and timeless touch came from the ceremony. The religious ceremony took place in the quaint Church of St. Joseph, located in one of Taormina’s most characteristic squares, Piazza IX Aprile. This was followed by a couple’s photo session among the town’s beautiful narrow streets and vantage points. All this under a beautiful Sicilian spring sunset. However, as spring weather can be quite unpredictable, the wedding planner Luana Aloi had a backup plan in case rain decided to join the celebration. And indeed, strong winds swept through town just before dinner was about to begin. The indoor option was quickly put into action to ensure everyone stayed comfortable and dry. Film photography from Sergio Sorrentino, with its timeless quality and subtle hues, perfectly encapsulates the colors and mood of Sicily.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]Bride’s Point of View:
My friend gave me the gift of organizing a girls’ weekend for my birthday. I thought it was very nice since she was already married and had a son. So I was excited to go to Venice together.
For the first night, my friend had booked a wonderful rooftop restaurant. We went up to the terrace to order food and drinks. Suddenly someone tapped me on the shoulder and I looked up to see my boyfriend. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Completely surprised, but overjoyed, I said yes. I learned that my boyfriend had arranged the whole weekend in consultation with our friends. While I went to Venice by train with my friend, my boyfriend and his friend went by car. All four of us had a wonderful weekend in Venice.[/field]

Colorful and Fashionable Colorado Summer Wedding in the Mountains

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]yellows, peaches, fuchsias, oranges, lilacs and hints of blue[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]We envisioned a tented reception being surrounded by the beautiful scenery Colorado has to offer. I wanted everything to feel elegant, yet organic and rustic. We hosted four events throughout the weekend, and I wanted to make sure everyone got to bond and get to know each other! We wanted to do a destination wedding so everyone could experience the beauty of Colorado and have that vacation mindset! [/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Harrison and I originally met at a bar in the Hamptons in 2017, but did not start dating until we were set up by his friend’s wife in October of 2018! We funnily enough have selfies from the first night we met on a friend’s phone that surfaced about six months into dating. Fun fact, I remembered Harrison from the night in the Hamptons but he did not remember me! Fast forward 3 years into dating…Harrison told me he wanted to get tacos for lunch at this spot near our apartment along the water. I was adamant about having leftover turkey burgers because I hate food waste, but he was persistent. When we arrived the restaurant, Harrison looked around and then got down on one knee!!! I was shocked to say the least and got down on one knee too! Our friends were in a bush hiding taking pictures of us from afar and it was all so perfect. I am the ugliest crier and these pictures always make me laugh so much because they illicit so much emotion. The restaurant was a ploy because it was a great photo opportunity right along the water. We walked back to our apartment and our family and friends were waiting inside to celebrate. [/field]

[section title=”The Fashion”]
[field title=”Wedding Gown”]When it came to my dress, I knew I wanted something different. striking, and with floral details, but most of all comfortable. I tried on the Reem Acra Chrysler dress early on in the search at a department store, but it had a white lining and I wanted something more sheer so I kept looking. I was between a few others, but I went straight to Reem Acra and we customized the Chrysler dress with a nude lining to really allow for the flowers and crystals to pop. This was the dress of my dreams and the hand sewn flower appliques and crystals really fit in with the aesthetic of the wedding. The flowers were not perfectly placed which I loved, making it feel organic. I also had a custom veil made with matching flowers and crystals which added to the drama of the dress. The dress is also from their Love From New York wedding collection which was fun because I got to bring a little bit of New York to Colorado! As for shoes, I wanted to be comfortable yet again so I opted for a block heel by René Caovilla. I kept jewelry to a minimum and wore my engagement ring, a diamond tennis bracelet and my day-to-day diamond pave hoops.[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]My bridesmaids each got to choose a dress of a specific color and the brands ranged from Vera Wang, Zhivago, Cinq a Sept and a custom dress by Andrea’s Fashions in Beverly Hills.[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]Harrison wore a custom tuxedo by Alan David Custom with custom Del Toro slippers with our wedding date etched on the sole along with Jan Leslie shark cufflinks (both gifted by my parents and an ode to Montauk where we met) and a limited edition Cartier Santos watch I had gifted him prior to the wedding.[/field]

[board_carousel title=”Cocktail Hour”]

[/board_carousel]
[section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Food & Drink”]Guests were greeted with champagne at the ceremony which set the celebratory mood! My signature drink was a Spicy Margarita with a Tajin rim and Harrison’s was a Gin Basil Smash. Cocktail hour food consisted of pigs in a blanket, lamb chops, shrimp cocktail, vegetable spring rolls, crudité, and a glorious charcuterie station. For dinner, guests were served a pear salad, miso glazed cod or short rib followed by cake and an ice cream sundae bar! At the after party, we had a lot of late night snacks consisting of chicken fingers, fries, sliders and lots of candy! [/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]When it came to décor, I wanted to stray away from the typical white floral wedding and go bright! The Colorado mountains, sunsets and wildflowers are all so captivating and I wanted to embrace that in everything from the flowers to all of the fine details. I wanted everything to feel elegant, yet organic and rustic. We chose a palette of yellows, peaches, fuchsias, oranges, lilacs and hints of blue and decided to run with it and go wild. We worked with Lauren Benson from Four 13 Designs who brought our vision to life with our invitations that featured a watercolor sunset and mountain liner, pressed floral details and a custom leather belly band imprinted with our logo. Lauren went above and beyond with all the wedding details and signage which included a lot of pressed flowers and custom etched bud vases with guest’s names and table number in place of a traditional seating chart. These were wonderful because our guests took them home as a keepsake! The Perfect Petal understood the assignment of a wildflower organic garden party with all the florals from the Chuppah to the centerpieces. My favorite aspect was the flower installation over the black and white dance floor. This was originally supposed to go over the head table, but we decided to move it over the dance floor and I am so happy with that decision! It was so fun to dance under all the flowers and it made for great photos.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]I am gluten and dairy free so I let Harrison take the reins on this one! We had half cannoli and half s’mores and it was a hit. It was decorated with fresh flowers to fit the wild flower vibe.[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]The ceremony was held outside, and we were surrounded by nature, a bright blue sky and everyone we love. The aspen trees were shimmering in the breeze and we were taking it all in. The ceremony was extremely sentimental because we both honored our grandparents with the tallis and Kiddush cups that belonged to them. It was as if they were present. Harrison and the bridal party walked down the aisle to a string version of “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel and I walked down the aisle to a string version of “Learn to Fly” by Foo Fighters. Our dog Georgia was a special part of the weekend and my sister, Matron of Honor walked her down the aisle which was adorable. She was wearing a flower collar that Perfect Petal made for her and stole the show. One thing I was happy about was deciding to read our vows at the ceremony. We were originally going to read them at the Ketubah signing prior with just immediate family and bridal party and shifted last minute. It was beyond special to share this intimate moment with our guests and everyone got a glimpse of our love for each other. After we were pronounced husband and wife, we walked back down the aisle to a string version of “Toxicity” by System of a Down. It was silly because those that know the band were laughing and others just thought it was a beautiful song. We are both very into music and it played such a crucial role throughout the night.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Call us crazy, but we booked this as our venue without ever having seen it in person! We envisioned a tented reception being surrounded by the beautiful scenery Colorado has to offer. We had only been to Vail proper and all of those venues did not allow for a tent. We didn’t want to drag people to Colorado to have a ballroom reception, so we stumbled upon the Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch which allowed for a tent on the grand lawn. We visited a year before in the summer and it exceeded all expectations. We knew we had made the perfect venue choice.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]8 months before the ceremony, we had a Ketubah signing in LA with close family and friends so my grandmothers could sign our Ketubah. My grandma Marilynn on my mother’s side had just been diagnosed with ALS and my grandma Ruth on my father’s side was 97. I am so lucky that they signed our Ketubah because my grandma Marilynn passed away in May and my grandma Ruth passed away 4 days after our wedding at 98 years old. The ceremony was extra special and sentimental and in April, we did our first dance for my grandma right before she passed. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]When the band started playing Blink-182, Harrison and I jumped on stage and started singing with the band for 3 songs! This resulted in me crowd surfing, which I highly recommend! None of it was planned, just pure adrenaline making it seem like a concert.[/field]

A French Garden Inspired This Couple’s Whimsical Summer Wedding

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Inspired by the picturesque backdrop of a coastal Hamptons retreat, Kali and Sam wanted their wedding to radiate with the serene beauty of monochromatic lime and apple greens, ice French blues, and soothing neutral tones. [/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

This multi-day event was a testament to their love inspired by their current life in Texas, their love of summers in the Hamptons, and a deep connection to their Jewish heritage. Every detail was meticulously curated, from the custom bridal gown delicately embroidered to the lavish apple green florals that adorned the venue. The showstopper was the Hidden Garden Oxford head table linen that added an extra layer of opulence to the affair. It was a celebration that seamlessly blended timeless elegance with coastal charm.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]In the heart of Austin, Kali Lang and Sam Raphael’s love story began one balmy September night in 2018. Kali, dining at La Griglia with her parents, crossed paths with their friend Suzy Landa, who saw destiny’s hand at play. Suzy, knowing Sam lived in DC, believed he was Kali’s perfect match.

A swift call from Suzy to Sam’s mother, Lynne Raphael, set the stage for a serendipitous encounter. Unbeknownst to them, destiny had already been in motion. Days earlier, Kali playfully asked her college friend Graham Shuping about tall, single men in DC. To her surprise, Sam, Graham’s best friend, was the answer.

Their hearts were already entwined when Lynne called Sam. Their first date was a revelation, sparking an undeniable connection. Love blossomed, laughter filled their days, and they embraced a journey guided by fate.

Sam proposed to Kali by the serene waters of Town Lake, where they then celebrated their engagement with family and friends.

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]

Kali’s journey to find the perfect wedding gown was a tale of serendipity and a sprinkle of magic. It began as a lighthearted excursion, with two bridesmaids, Alex and Leslye, and her sister, by her side, visiting the iconic Kleinfeld’s in New York shortly after their engagement. Later, Kali embarked on a more earnest dress-shopping adventure with her mother and sister in Houston, exploring five boutiques over two unforgettable days. Finally, the gown of her dreams unveiled itself at Brickhouse Bridal in Houston. Yet, Kali’s quest for perfection did not end there. Two weeks later, she returned with her bridesmaid and cousin to reconfirm that the chosen dress was the one, adding a touch of custom lace to the back—a detail that would make her heart sing on her special day.

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]

Ensuring that her bridesmaids looked nothing short of spectacular, Kali set four essential parameters for their dresses: a captivating ice blue color, elegant floor-length design, a preference for no strapless styles, and a resolute decision to steer clear of floral patterns or prints. With her vision clear, Kali skillfully matched the dresses with the venue and florals, resulting in a cohesive and visually stunning bridal party. The bridesmaid dresses from Mac Duggal, Show Me Your Mumu, Azazie, and Bex and Co. brought Kali’s dream to life.

[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]In line with the wedding’s classic black-tie dress code, Sam and his groomsmen donned timeless black tuxedos. Aided by their astute photographer, they ensured each tuxedo was expertly fitted, ensuring a sharp and sophisticated look that would stand the test of time.[/field]

[field title=”Food & Drink”]

Family was at the heart of Kali and Sam’s celebration, and they wanted their guests to feel the warmth of that connection. Choosing a Family-Style dinner service, the couple encouraged their loved ones to bond and share stories, just as they had shared many memorable dinners together. Royal Fig Catering, their chosen caterer, sourced the entire menu with organic ingredients locally from the Texas Hill Country, and paired those ingredients with an open bar. The aroma of tender ribeye steaks topped with chimichurri as an entree filled each guest’s nose with the essence of a beloved southern home.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]The wedding was a floral paradise, with lavish arrangements that graced every corner. The couple didn’t want a standard green and white wedding because it didn’t fit their monochromatic French country garden aesthetic. Instead, they chose bells of ireland florals to make the greens much more vibrant and whimsical.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]The wedding cake was a masterpiece inspired by family tradition. It had lemon cake tiers, adorned with fresh strawberry preserves in place of strawberry cream, paying homage to Texas’s rich culinary heritage. It also had a layer of sumptuous chocolate cake with chocolate ganache inspired by the bride’s grandmother’s secret recipe, adding an extra layer of sweetness to the celebration.[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]Love and wisdom flowed throughout the ceremony, with the parents and grandparents of the couple imparting their timeless insights during the Ketubah Ceremony. Vows were exchanged amidst golden hour photos and the jubilant horah dance. A 50+ person conga line to the electrifying tunes of Lizzo brought the dance floor to life.

Their DC friend Kaileen serenaded the couple with “You’ve Got the Love,” creating an unforgettable moment of tenderness. The groom’s best man, ever the prankster, surprised everyone by donning a banana suit when delivering the Bananarchy—a hilarious nod to their shared history.

As the night drew to a close, Kali and Sam shared their last dance as a newlywed couple, swaying to the beautiful melodies of “Diamonds and Gasoline” by Turnpike Troubadours. It was a wedding day filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories—a day that embodied the essence of a coastal dream come true.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Kali decided to give her something blue to her bridesmaids. Gifting each of her bridesmaids a blue eggshell leather jewelry box with their monogrammed initials in a stoney clover style. Each gift was waiting with a handwritten note from Kali for the ladies upon their arrival to the wedding venue.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]Because Kali and Sam grew up in DC, they wanted to give their families a genuine Texas experience. They leaned all the way into southern culture for their rehearsal dinner, with the location, dress code, decor, and of course Texas barbecue for the meal.
[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]The bride’s great uncle Richard (aka Dua Lipa Grandpa) received the surprise of a lifetime going on Jimmy Fallon and meeting Dua Lipa (video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHH69xT4vKw&t=11s)
To pay tribute to his love for Dua Lipa, they had a special moment for the band to play his favorite song at the wedding with a spotlight on him!

California Wedding Weekend at Rosewood Sand Hill

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Christina and her mother chose two different color palettes for our wedding. The cocktail hour was white and blue and the dinner reception was navy base with pops of light pinks, peaches, whites, and greens—brought in by bountiful and lush florals.
[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]Event Info: Christina & Trever’s wedding weekend experience began on the breathtaking grounds of Oakland California Temple with close family and friends. The celebration continued downtown San Fransisco at the iconic GOTTs for a sunny welcome party. A very meaningful location for the couple who started to get acquainted with each other along the stunning docks with views of the bay. The following day guests were invited to the luxurious Rosewood Sand Hill for cocktail hour on the lawn. The rest of the day was filled with heartfelt toasts and they danced the night away.

Design/Vibe/Vision: The Brides mother, Janna, is an interior designer by trade and an avid gardener. They chose a chic garden party theme that was reflective of the Bride’s childhood memories in her parents English home garden. This went perfectly with the Rosewood Hotel grounds and the early summer wedding date in June.
[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Christina and Trever were introduced by friends in San Francisco! Their first date was on the Embarcadero for dinner and an evening stroll. Their relationship grew naturally and easy. To ring in 2023, Trever took Christina on the same walk as their first date down a pier and proposed overlooking the San Francisco Bay!

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]Christina said when it came to her dress it was love at first sight! It was the first wedding dress she tried on and she instantly knew it was the one. She comes from a family of all girls—so for fun she tried on her two older sister’s wedding dresses. Interestingly, while they all have the same day-to-day style they all chose very different wedding dresses. It confirmed that the dress she chose was perfect for her!
[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]Christina’s sisters were her bridesmaids and she wanted them to choose something that they felt beautiful in. The dress theme developed naturally when one of her sister’s found the perfect floral dress in Palm Beach. They then decided to blend patterns and buy dresses from the same designer but not have any of their dresses match.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]Christina and Trever love seafood and the fresh farm-to-table food California is known for. They worked closely with the Rosewood Hotel’s head chef to create a special menu complete with fresh oysters, caviar and arranchini’s. They chose a passion fruit mocktail for Christina’s specialty drink because it reminded her and her family of Hawaii, their favorite vacation place. Trever chose a blood orange mocktail as a nod to his favorite sports team—the Portland Blazers.[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Christina and her mother loved the idea of incorporating hydrangeas throughout the wedding since her garden is full of large hydrangea bushes. They decided to go big with them at cocktail hour! Emily of Flower Girl Em created two large statement arrangements on either side of the bar to anchor it and then again on the escort display table. For dinner, they chose colorful lush floral arrangements on each of the guest tables with sweet peas, pansies and garden roses. They wanted the florals to pop so they decided to go with a beautiful navy linen from BBJ La Tavola and then added white and blue paper goods designed by the bride’s sister to tie everything together.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]Christina and Trever love dessert—but not cake. To do something unexpected, they chose to serve guests three mini dessert tastings—mini lemon tart, chocolate pot de creme and a mini berry crumble.[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”][/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]As a thank you for helping me through life and the wedding process, Christina gifted her sisters/bridesmaids a pinky signet ring with their initials on it. They later gifted Trever and her a book about their love story.

A Romantic, Anything but Ordinary Wedding Celebration in Newport, RI Inspired by Modern & Chic Blush Accents

Blush, White, Champagne

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Mackenzie and Rob wanted the day to read romantic, glamorous, modern, and anything but ordinary for Newport. In our first design meeting, we worked with linen colors and built the design scope from there. Blush was a must for Mackenzie. She has always loved the feminine touches, but she wanted it to also read modern and chic. White, blush, acrylic, and silk were the blueprint colors and materials on how their dream was transformed into a reality. White drapery was pulled in to calm down the teak and yellow tones of The Bohlin at the Newport Yachting Center tent. Crystal chandeliers were brought in as lighting and were able to really transform the mood and feeling under the tent, especially as the sun went down. Guests felt like they were in a fairytale with the crystal lights sparkling over them the entire evening. Every little detail was tied in, from the invitations, to the day-of signage. Callidora Letterpress & Design created the most perfect invitations that were a thoughtful peek into the design vision of the day, which was extremely important not only to their wedding planner, Stephanie King Events, for a design concept but also to give a peek into the guest experience for the day. The invitations featured a custom Bohlin sketch, a vellum wax seal, and a modern logo all tied together with a pretty silk blush bow! Walking into The Bohlin it was breathtaking. From the large-scale blush and acrylic signage designed by Wall to Wall Ink. to the long Tuscan tables draped with an Ibiza white linen from Peak, it was a beautiful, thoughtful vision that was executed as designed. The Bohlin as dressed it had never looked before and wasn’t your average Newport wedding. It was ethereal, romantic, and modern. This was exactly what Mackenzie & Rob wanted. For the tablescape, we went minimal with a champagne blush silk runner paired with an opaque sparkly charger topped with a custom menu. The crystal glassware tied in all the glamorous details of the chandeliers and white drapery. Candles lined the tables, and the blush and white florals were an elegant touch. The acrylic chairs were a must to really emphasize the modern style that the couple loved. Stephanie Berenson Photography did an incredible job telling the story of the evening through photos. The couple lived through the event presently with such joy on their faces, and you can see that translates so well in all their photos. – Stephanie King Events

[field title=”Proposal Story”]Robert and Mackenzie met during the summer of 2017 through one of Mackenzie’s best friends and bridesmaids. They had an instant connection, and after 2 years of a long distance relationship, Mackenzie moved back home to Boston to be closer to family, friends, and of course, Robert. In July of 2022, the two planned a romantic and relaxing getaway to the Bahamas to celebrate Mackenzie’s birthday, and Robert knew this was the perfect location to pop the question. After going back and forth with Baha Mar’s event planner exploring all options, Robert decided to plan an intimate and private proposal on a dock, just the two of them, followed by a celebratory dinner at one of the more upscale restaurants within the resort. When the couple returned home to Boston, Mackenzie’s family planned an engagement party with friends and family to celebrate! [/field]

[field title=”Food & Drink”]During cocktail hour, guests were greeted with glasses of champagne, wine, and signature drinks. Passed hors d’oeuvres included fried chicken sliders, lamb lollipops, scallops wrapped in bacon, and a mushroom bruschetta. The incredible raw bar was a guest favorite, featuring local oysters, little necks, and shrimp cocktail.

The formal sit down dinner started with a mouthwatering burrata salad with heirloom tomatoes, Anaheim peppers, and basil pesto. Guests chose between a lemon bay chicken with charred vegetables, a vegetable terrine, or surf and turf featuring a petite filet mignon, butter poached lobster, and a truffled potato puree. The passed late night snack was a tasty chocolate chip cookie with a vanilla milk shot.
[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Florals were delicate and luxe, featuring blush and white roses, white ranunculus, and white snapdragons. The ceremony floral install was a floor arch that quietly hugged behind the couple but didn’t block the ocean view. It gave a luxe addition, but didn’t take away from the surrounding beauty of Newport, RI. The arch was then repurposed in front of the band for the evening and was the perfect touch inside of the tent. [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]The wedding cake was a three tier white clean iced cake with a pop of their wedding logo from their invitation suite. It sat on an acrylic cake stand and was decorated with just enough white and blush roses. [/field]

A Late Spring Wedding in Tuscany with a Touch of Chinese Traditions

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Julie and Peter are a couple in love from the USA with Chinese heritage which makes this weekend special. It started on a Friday with a lively Chinese wedding ceremony. In Chinese culture the red symbolizes joy and happiness which makes it an important colour in traditional ceremonies. The minimal yet impactful use of red in their Chinese wedding added a touch of cultural significance to the celebration.
For the White Wedding, they decided to follow the traditions and chose a palette with all the shadows of pink with a touch of white.[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Love stories are meant to be unique, and Julie and Peter’s tale of romance is a testament to the beauty of blending cultures, love, and breathtaking settings. This dynamic couple celebrated their love with not just one, but two exquisite weddings, one steeped in Chinese tradition and the other in a classic white style. The Tuscan Wedding supported them for one year to make their dream come true. Julie and Peter’s love story is a testament to the power of love, unity, and cultural diversity. Their decision to celebrate both their Western and Chinese heritages speaks volumes about their commitment to honor their roots while embracing their shared future. The scenery at the weddings was nothing short of a fairytale. Borgo di Vignamaggio in Tuscany, Italy, is a place where time stands still. The venue provided a 360-degree view of rolling hills, vineyards, and cypress trees that stretched as far as the eye could see. Guests were treated to the breathtaking Tuscan countryside, a serene and picturesque backdrop that added an extra layer of enchantment to the occasion.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]From Julie:
“Peter knew that I wanted to be surrounded by my friends and family when he proposed so he coordinated to make sure my best friends flew in from all over the country to there in NYC where we live. He had put together a video of all of our moments together since we started dating and at the end told me to meet him on the rooftop overlooking NY where he was waiting. After I said yes, my friends who were hiding surprised me back at our apartment where Peter had organized a omakase chef to come to our house for us to enjoy a dinner together with all of my friends”[/field]

[field title=”Food & Drink”]The menu served to the lucky guests was a great sample for the famous Italian food tradition. During the cocktail hour the guests enjoyed the famous Aperol Spritz, than they seated down for dinner. The Mezzi Paccheri fresh pasta with duck ragout, fried sage and raspberries was served as firs course, followed by a Risotto Carnaroli with red prawns from Sicily and Champagne. For the main course, the guests could chose between Wild sea bass steak with Champagne and lemon and seasonal vegetables
with extra virgin olive oil or Veal fillet with Vinsanto wine sauce
Green beans chives tied and Potato flan truffle flavored. For those who followed a vegetarian diet, an Eggplant Parmigiana on a tomato coulis was available. As they got married in a winery, the wines were provided by Vignamaggio Wine cellar: the Red Chianti Classico Riserva, the white wine Tramonte and a delicious rosé wine Albaluce. To toast with the cake, Julie & Peter prefered the Moscato D’Asti provided by the catering Galateo.[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

The flowers at the white wedding were a sight to behold. Bursting with shades of pink and delicate pastels, the arrangements by I Fiori di Nadia added a touch of magic to the already enchanting atmosphere. The venue was transformed into a floral wonderland, a true reflection of Julie and Peter’s love in full bloom. The florist used different types of roses in different shades of pink that, together with peonies, carnations and ranunculus, created the perfect atmosphere for a late spring wedding.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

Julie & Peter decided for the traditional Italian wedding cake Millefeuille, that was prepared in front of the guests by the talented pastry chef from GALATEO RICEVIMENTI FIRENZE – MILANO The cake was filled with a delicious chantilly cream and decorated with a cascade of almond brittles and wild berries. The newlyweds cut the cake on the notes of Sugars by Maroon 5 while the fireworks lit up the Tuscan sky.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]The music was such an important part of Julie & Peter’s wedding that the bride decided to walk down the aisle – escorted by her lovely parents – on a customized song especially created for that occasion. It was such a romantic moment that everyone who was around will never forget.

As the sun dipped below the Tuscan horizon, Julie and Peter’s wedding transformed into a vibrant party with the help of Wedding music & Lights. The celebration was nothing short of a banger, featuring a talented saxophonist, a skilled violinist, and a DJ who kept the dance floor alive. The vibe and type of music that they loved to dance to was Top 40, Pop, and EDM (electronic dance music) – ideal for a night of dancing and revelry.
[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]From the bride:
“It was supposed to rain the entire weekend but you would never know from the pictures because at every point where we had an event, the rain stopped right beforehand and the sun came out for us. We were so lucky. “

What Every Bride Wishes They Knew About Alterations

Months have passed since you found your dream gown and now it’s finally arrived! The feeling of seeing your gown for the first time (instead of a store sample) can be exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. The scary thoughts come flooding in, “What if it’s not how I remember it?”, “What if it doesn’t fit right?”–this is totally normal, trust us! Your gown is a big deal to you, and it should be, but don’t let it stress you out. The important thing to remember when it comes time to pick up your gown is that it will be different from the sample you tried on. It may be a slightly different color, because it’s new and cleaner than the floor sample. It will likely be a different size than the sample you tried on (whichever size you ordered). Most importantly, it won’t fit you like a glove, it’s not supposed to yet, that’s what alterations are for. So, let’s get into it!

PHOTOGRAPHER | Kelsea Holder Photography

1. Do You Need Alterations?

Yes! Alterations can seem mysterious, especially because, in this day and age, many women have never had their clothing altered before. Most clothing, these days, stretches to fit. Wedding gowns are designed differently than your average cocktail dress, many of the fabrics don’t stretch, and this is the number one reason for alterations. You want your wedding gown to fit like a glove, not just for looks, but for functionality. Most wedding gowns have corsets or bras built into them; in order for that infrastructure to work, it needs to fit right.

Height and proportion also fuel the need for alterations. Wedding gowns come hemmed to a standard length that varies from designer to designer. Usually, the standard hems are quite long and most brides will need to have the hem taken up so that you can walk in the gown without tripping over the front. In addition to adjusting the hem, other parts of the gown may need to be rearranged, depending on your proportions. Everyone’s waist and hips sit in a different place, and depending where the waist on your gown is, it may be necessary to shorten the waist on your bodice to make sure the gown sits properly.

PHOTOGRAPHY | Stephanie Gan Photography

2. What Do Alterations Cost?

This is a big question with a complicated answer. The cost of your alterations depends on three factors:

  • What alterations need to be made?
  • How complicated is the design of your gown?
  • What does the alterations specialist you are hiring charge for these services?

In order to give you an accurate quote, the alterations specialist will need to see you in the gown in person. They will likely pin the gown in a few places and take notes on the adjustments that need to be made. This will give them an itemized list of the “alterations”. Then, the specialist will examine the construction of the gown and the fabric that it is made out of. If the construction is very complicated, or if your fabric is very detailed or delicate (like a beaded fabric or a fine silk), it may add to the cost because it will take them longer to finish each step in the alteration. Every specialist has their own way of calculating the cost of alterations, so the cost may be different from place to place–even for the same alterations, on the same gown.

We recommend budgeting around $700 for your alterations. This is on the higher side of the average, but we find that it is better to be happily surprised when your bill is less, than to be blindsided with a bill you weren’t expecting.

PHOTOGRAPHER | Kelsea Holder Photography

3. When Should I Get My Alterations and How Long Does It Take?

You should schedule your first alterations appointment for 1.5 months -1 month before your wedding date (or the day you leave, if it is a destination wedding). This will allow enough time for multiple fittings, if necessary. It’s important to stay in that sweet spot because any sooner and you may risk needing additional alterations due to weight fluctuations; any later, and you may need to pay a pricey rush fee to make sure they’re done in time for your wedding.

To make sure that your spot is reserved, it is important to schedule your appointment as soon as possible. We recommend getting your first alterations appointment on the books as soon as you make the deposit on your gown because the places with the best reputations book up way in advance.

PHOTOGRAPHY | Kat Braman

4. What Exactly Are Alterations?

When you order your gown, you have to select a size (with the help of your bridal consultant). They should take your measurements and recommend a size based on your largest measurement. For example, maybe your bust is a size 4 but your waist is a size 2–in this case, you should order the size 4 and have the waist taken-in during alterations. Alterations exist because every body is different; even bodies with the same measurements can have a different layout (so-to-speak). Rarely does anyone fit perfectly into a standard size. The ideal situation is that your gown is slightly big on you in some places because it is much easier to have a gown taken-in, than it is to let-it-out (which can be nearly impossible).

In addition to adjusting the size and fit of the gown, alterations can also be used to change the gown’s appearance. You can shorten sleeves, add a strap, lower a neckline, depending on the design of your gown, of course. If you do want to drastically change the look of your gown, it is a good idea to consult and alterations specialist before you place the order to make sure that what you envision is possible.

PHOTOGRAPHY | Anya Kernes Photography

5. What to Know Before Your Alterations Fitting

Before you arrive to your first alterations fitting, you should know a few things. You should know what shoes and undergarments or shapers you will be wearing on the day of your wedding (and bring them with you). This will ensure that your alterations specialist gets the fit and hem just right.

Your alterations specialist will install the bustle as part of your alterations. There are a few different types of bustles and they vary in complexity and price, so it’s a good idea to know what you like going into your first alterations appointment.

Payton and Jack’s key design words were clean, warm, intimate, and thoughtful. They wanted a fun, laid-back, and unique wedding day experience that felt elevated. They hosted a gorgeous brunch celebration after a traditional Catholic ceremony in a historic church on Maui’s southernmost coast. Their guest experience was the most important to them as most of their guests were visiting Maui for the first time. Her ‘maids held petite bouquets of garden blooms in the color story of the day, pale pink, apricot, guava, butter yellow and creamy ivory. The reception was held beneath a grand white tent overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Guest tables were a mix of round and rectangle tables. Floral arrangements were chic, romantic, and refined in design, with garden blooms in shades of pale pink, apricot, guava, and creamy ivory in ceramic compotes composed of tulips, spray roses, helebore, astillbe, ranunculas and lisianthus. Payton liked salmon-hued Phalaenopsis orchids for a touch of punchy color. Cocktail hour featured chic floral moments in the lounge area. A Classic Black and White Wedding at Chateau de la Napoule

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Black & white[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]Years before we were even engaged we had dreamed up a fairytale wedding in the South of France together. It was a fantasy we always dreamed about, but I’m not sure either of us thought would be a reality. We kept that dream alive for just short of five years before the wedding took place. In the years that passed we kept an eye on the wedding industry in the area, looking at everything from venues to photographers. At some point we stumbled upon a video of Château de la Napoule that captured us and we both knew it was THE venue.

Despite our persistence, we got engaged during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic and our French wedding seemed a distant dream. A venue trip was planned and we agreed if we could pull a venue visit off without any pain, we would proceed. However Nate then came down with COVID, canceling our trip. We kept our distance and rescheduled our trip, but as luck would have it, I came down with COVID 20 days later, canceling our second trip. At this point, my brother was proclaiming our wedding Franceled, his funny way of saying that our France wedding was canceled. I lost hope of a wedding in France and resigned myself to a wedding in Boston. Nate on the other hand never lost faith. Without his determination, France never would have become a reality.

Two months after our originally scheduled trip, we were finally on a flight to France to see some venues! We had our hearts set on Château de la Napoule, but we did see two other venues while in France to be sure. Our criteria included a water view, a venue that was beautiful standalone without too much decor and ~30 minutes from the Nice airport. All three venues we saw were amazing, and Nate and I actually came away loving different venues. In the end Château de la Napoule did win out. The venue delivered on all of our criteria and brought with it a whole host of history.

Château de la Napoule is an art foundation that allows for private events. This meant we had to bring in everything from sound equipment to lighting. While a massive undertaking, the blank canvas of the venue allowed us to make it exactly what we had always dreamed of – a modern, yet timeless, elegant vibe. We live in a house of neutrals and we knew black and white would be the perfect color palette. We set out to maximize time alongside the water, emphasized the gardens through the château, added twinkle lights and more candles than we could count. Aurélie brought our vision to life and it was truly remarkable! The end result was a dreamy, romantic setting that was perfection down to the smallest details – it was everything we had dreamt of, and so much more. [/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]We got engaged on a weekend getaway in Kennebunkport, ME in October 2021. Before my mom passed away, she had always wanted to see the fall folliage in Maine. Unfortunately she never had the chance, but being a lover of Fall and the changing leaves myself, her desire remained a goal of mine. We had planned the whole weekend, but COVID had derailed our trip in 2020 and then again earlier in 2021. On the third attempt, we finally made it!

Given the trip had already been resceduled twice in two separate years, there weren’t any major alarm bells indicating it would be our engagement weekend. We had tag teamed a several month search and the diamond was purchased, but Nate was working on the setting design solo. I knew he was nearing the end of the ring process, so I did have a fleeting thought that he might ask, but it passed quickly. Offhandledly he had mentioned an upcoming bank holiday disrupted his final payment, a statement I now realize was a white lie to make me think the ring was not yet in his possession!

We arrived in Kennebunkport on Friday afternoon and Nate decided we were going for a walk to see the Bush compound, a spot I was not familiar with. I genuinely thought we were taking a walk to see some beautiful bush foliage and I didn’t question it. We walked for quite a while that night. It turns out Nate was scoping out the spot he planned to pop the question the next day and he didn’t like it! When we had checked into our hotel for the weekend – The White Barn Inn – they had given us a pamphlet with some hot spots circled. After returning to our room to freshen up for dinner, Nate looked at the pamphlet, found & Googled Goose Rocks Beach and then alerted our photographer of his new plan.

We spent Saturday eating cinnamon buns and drinking coffee, admiring the fall folliage on another walk and playing chess at The White Barn Inn. Midday Nate decided we should go to the beach to read during sunset, which seemed like a perfect plan for the bookworms we are. I packed a backpack with blankets and books, something Nate kept telling me was unneccessary, but I couldn’t quite grasp. We headed over to Goose Rocks Beach where we ordered sides and espresso martinis before hitting the beach. Little did I know, our photographer was across the bar watching us and apparently Nate checked his backpack to ensure the ring was there a time or two.

After we finished our drinks we headed over to the beach to read. I was insistent on setting up our blanket, but Nate told me to put the backpack down so we could walk by the water first. As we started walking he wrapped me into a big hug and started his proposal speech. It’s rare that Nate uses my full name, so once he dropped that I immediately knew what was happening. Nate likes to joke that I made the actual proposal quite hard on him – being way too giddy to listen and awkward with the amount of emtions he was sharing. I blacked it all out, but remembered to say yes! Nate had planned a weekend with all of my favorite things and found a way to bring my mom into the weekend, even though she could not be there physically. Everything about it was perfect![/field]

My brother and Nate’s mom accompanied me to three trials and while the dresses were gorgeous, none were IT. I felt as though I liked a dress 80%, but wanted to change the other 20% to make it perfect.

Cue Bre, my amazing custon dress designer! My brother told me he knew I would work with Bre from the second we got to her studio – I lit up differently than I had at any other bridal boutiques. Bre’s sample dresses were airy and whimsical and everything I wanted. I had trust in her from day one, so much so that I put all my eggs in one basket and had her design all three of my dresses – welcome, wedding and dancing dresses.

Pretty quickly after trying on Bre’s samples my main dress vision fell into place. I landed on an A-line dress which felt perfect for our venue. I wanted texture and ended up leaning in heavily on pearls, incorporating them head to toe – pearls in my hair, on earrings, my bodice and my shoes.

I knew I wanted my dancing dress to be fun and a little flashy and Bre helped me strike a perfect balance between sophisticated and party. We used a lightly glittered tulle and added beads and appliqué to really make it pop.

Bre was incredible. She was able to take my inspiration photos and my nonsensical thoughts and somehow turn them into the dresses of my dreams. Bre and I went on a real journey together throughout the near year-long process and I couldn’t have asked for anything better – she was patient and honest and beyond talented. My cousin’s veil – my something borrowed – rounded out my wedding wardrobe. I felt like a princess and I’m looking for any excuse to wear my welcome and dancing dress again – it’s just a matter of time![/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]My biggest concern for my bridesmaids was that they felt beautiful! With this in mind, they were all asked to pick their own black dress. The onyl requirement was that they felt great in it and were excited to wear it! Shoes, accessories, hair and makeup were all up to them as well. Without coordinating, the girls ended up picking some really gorgeous dresses, all of which had some texture that tied together perfctly and they all looked amazing together. [/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]In keeping with the elegant vibe, we went with a simple black and white tuxedo for the groomsmen. Nate opted to modernize the look by pairing it with a black loafer, a personal favorite.[/field]

[section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Food & Drink”]One of the first things Nate and I connected on during our first date was our mutual desire to have a slow-paced, multi-course meal, often with wine pairings. When planning the wedding we knew almost immediately that we wanted to approach our wedding the same. Since guests would be traveling a long way, we also knew we wanted to immerse them in the culture and really show them what we love about France, the food being a big piece of that.

Our cocktail hour consisted of a variety of passed canapés, an oyster bar, a risotto display and a shrimp and scallop station. When Aurélie suggested a five course meal, inclusive of a cheese course, for the reception, we knew she understood our food goals! We capped it off with our version of late night McDonalds burgers and fries which we had served to us on the dancefloor to keep the party going strong.

We served champagne pre-ceremony and had an open bar from cocktail hour until the party ended at 3AM. Our bartenders were incredible and kept the energy going all night long! They were great with our guests, slinging drinks with ease, serving up shots, mixing in a few tricks and even letting our guests help out. We had six signature drinks, but our two favorites were the Giannobile & Tonic and the Espresso Lambertini. Lastly, our specialty coffee bar gave us and our people enough fuel to keep the dancefloor going until 3AM! [/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Florals were a piece of the puzzle that we had a lot of ideas swirling around, but not a lot of conviction other than wanting texture throughout the blooms. We were so thrilled when we really got to know Élise and Sébastien with Lettre à Elise Events. We had a few calls with them, but we really fell in love when they met us for our venue runthrough nine months before the wedding. Their energy and passion was palpabale and their creativity invaluable – Élise and Sébastien offered unique ideas ranging from florals to candles to setuo floorplans. After that initial in-person meeting we mutually agreed that Élise and Sébastien had our full trust and could do as they pleased in coordination with Aurélie. From the welcome reception to the wedding, they completely blew us away! They were such an essential piece of our wedding planning – we truly could not have done it without them![/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]As a couple who simply cannot leave a restaurant without perusing the dessert menu, we knew dessert would hold a special place at our wedding. Years before we were even engaged Nate was planning the short & sweet speech he would give at the wedding, strategically timed to be right after the cheese course wrapped up. His main goal, aside from thanking our guests for making the trek, was to ensure everyone took a moment for dessert. We’re a couple that firmly believes in a second stomach for dessert, but funnily enough, neither of us really enjoys cake. We opted for a sweets table showcasing some of our personal favorites, as well as tapping into the local loved options – mini crème brûlée, chocolate covered strawberries, macarons and croustillant au chocolat. Paired with our coffeebar, it was the dessert display of our dreams![/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]Wedding Party Entrance: Wildest Dreams by Taylor Swift (string quartet version)
Bride Entrance: Love Me Like You Do by Ellie Goulding(string quartet version)
Recessional: I Like Me Better by Lauv (string quartet version)
Couple Entrance: Verge by Owl City
First Dance: Iris by Goo Goo Dolls (piano version)[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Nate and I did a pretty even 50/50 split on the planning – we were both invovled in every step of the process, but we did take bigger roles in various pieces of the puzzle to cater to our biggest interests. Since Nate surprised me with the proposal itself, I knew I wanted to surprise him with something during the wedding. Fireworks were the first thing that came to mind! Aurélie and I very quickly got to work on the surprise, covering everything inclusive of the soundtrack to accompany the display.

Somewhere along the way Nate actually had the grand idea himself, but Aurélie and I were already equipped with a sotry – the château did not allow fireworks, not to mention they were out of budget. Nate bought it, but did mention his disappointment on the topic a few times.

Fast forward to the wedding, Nate thought we were going outside to take a few sparkler photos before heading to the dancefloor. Imagine his surprise when the fireworks began! Laurent, our cinematographer, captured the moment – audio and visuals – perfectly. Nate and our guests were blown away and it was truly a magical fireworks display. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]We knew we wanted to do something to remember my mom, an obvious void, on our wedding day. But we also knew we didn’t want to do this in a way that was subtle, known to us, but not everyone. We decided to save a seat for my mom in the front row as a symbol of her presence. Élise and Sébastien came up with a poetic idea to make the chair “taken by nature”, with flowers growing on it. We opted to add yellow flowers, both mine and my mom’s favorite color. I also had a piece of my mom’s wedding dress sewn into my custom wedding dress. Both were great reminders that while my mom wasn’t there with us physically, she was certainly there in spirit. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]Pretty early in our planning process Nate decided we would have a wedding monogram / logo. Crème de Papier did an incredible job bringing a unique twist to the standard wedding logos you routinely see – we loved it! So much so that we did our best to incorporate the monogram in as many places as possible, with the most unqiue place being a spotlight version of the monogram on the château’s tower. When it finally grew dark, it was amazing to see our string lights and plethora of candles joined by the monogram. It really elevated the courtyard and created anothe ‘wow’ moment for us and our guests. [/field]

A Marine Biologist’s Ocean-Inspired Wedding at Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Organic blues, greens, beige & ivory[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]Our wedding was influenced by my love for the ocean, as a marine biologist I wanted to find an upscale version of a coastal inspired wedding incorporating ocean details throughout. St. Michaels was the perfect charming town for this setting, Tyler and I escaped the busy city of DC several times and found the crabs and river views to be exactly what we needed for our getaways. The ceremony, cocktail hour and reception were all at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, which had excellent views of the water and historical maritime pieces that brought the whole look together. [/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Tyler proposed January 2022. He had conspired with my sister and told me we were going to pick her up at the airport, but in reality we were headed to the Inn at Little Washington for perhaps the best meal of my life. We stayed the night there and in the morning took a drive on the Shenandoah National Park skyline and proposed at a beautiful outlook. After the proposal, when we got home, I was shocked to see my closest family and friends (even some who flew in from across the country) for a surprise engagement party he had planned. The proposal setting Tyler chose was perfect, national parks hold such a special meaning to us and our relationship. We met during the start of the pandemic and we drove to many parks to hike and spend time with one another in the outdoors – a place we both feel most comfortable. We recently returned from our honeymoon in Tanzania where we spent seven days hiking to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa and one of the seven summits so our adventure continues! [/field]

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]My little niece Caroline was in town over the 4th of July, so one day we made an impromptu dress shopping appointment at the Love Couture in Maryland. It was my first (and only) appointment. When I put the dress on, Caroline said “it looks like a shell in the front!” I simply couldn’t take it off and couldn’t wait for Tyler to see it so it was easy to say yes to the dress. Amie Decker, my amazing hair and makeup artist helped me incorporate a gold and pearl shell clip in my hair to bring the shell theme back into the look. I also had a second look, a fun and flirty dress Untamed Petals that let me really party on the dance floor! [/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]I really wanted a print for the bridesmaid and bridesmen so they could look coordinated with the print on their dresses and the print on the ties. I found someone local in Annapolis, Smith and Quinn who makes incredible prints for weddings with different cuts so everyone can choose their own style. Plus the fabric was perfect for summer, its light and almost feels like running clothes! The Zianna Love print was the fun pop of blue I was looking for. [/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]Tyler and I went to Alton Lane to design a custom tuxedo together! It was a lot of fun designing little details and hidden customization like the inner lining having a print with a scuba underwater scene and our wedding date sketched in, so he’ll never forget ;). [section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Food & Drink”]To kick things off, we had our favorite daytime drink, an Aperol Spritz, passed as guests arrived at the outdoor ceremony, we discovered them traveling Italy and felt like its the perfect refreshing and colorful drink to start the celebration. The cocktail hour was in an adorable boat shed with antique boats and italian lights strung across the wooden ceiling. It was fitting to have some fresh oysters to complete the vibe. We chose Chesapeake Chefs, a local caterer that uses fresh, in season ingredients and really helped us in find a menu that would be healthy, fresh and have unique elements like fried sage and oyster mushrooms to make it a more farm to table experience! [/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Our wedding planner Carolyn Lasako from Kari Rider Events and our florist Crimson & Clover, really brought the coastal vision to life, with a sophisticated yet playful blue heron print on the linens and floral details that mimicked sea creatures and driftwood and candles that pulled it all together. Guests were snapping photos of the tablescape noting how different elements were than what they had seen before, which is not an easy task! For the bride & groom chairs, my mother surprised me with antique buoys that she hand wrote our names and date on, they now hang in our kitchen and are such a special memory for us. [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]My husband and I aren’t cake people and huge travelers so we thought it would be fun to skip the cake and go for some macarons! We did our engagement photoshoot with Audra Wrisley in Paris and it was such a great trip that we wanted to bring in a little Parisian flair to our desserts. For the toast, we coupled the macarons with espresso martinis which we had mini ones passed to the guests as well (a little extra caffeine for the after party!).

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]We both had our uncles read at the ceremony 1- Love in Action, Romans 12:9-18 and 2- “Unending Love” by Rabindranath Tagore (Audrey Hepburn’s favorite poem of course!). We also wanted to have our own vows to one another, it was the number one thing the guests talked about – saying there wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd! While it was a lot of work to write them, I was really glad to have our own words as the foundation and start of our lives together! Van Morrison is a classic for our relationship, we always have him playing in the house – we chose “Real Real Gone” for the procession, “Into the Mystic” as our entrance, and Tyler surprised me with our first dance as “And It Stoned Me” he always calls me by my maiden name “Stone” so it was a cute play on the words of the song. I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention the highlight of the Bachelor Band’s playlist was “Sweet Caroline”, where the entire party circled around my little niece and sang our hearts out to her, which has become a tradition for our family weddings! [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]The welcome table had a grouping of photos of those who could not be with us, our grandparents, uncles or close ones that were there in spirit. This was particularly important to us as Tyler had lost his father to cancer right before we met and we wanted him to be a part of this special day even if from afar. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]For my bridal party I wanted to do something special and wanted to hand pick earrings that they could wear on the wedding day. I customized each earring to match their style while keeping all to gold and pearl like my own earrings and hair piece. For the two men in my bridal party, I gave them gold pins. One was in the shape of a fish and the other a stingray. For my adorable little nephew Kipton who was the ringbearer, he got a small gold shark pin and our flower girl, my niece Caroline had Jennifer Behr pearl butterfly clips in her hair and a small butterfly necklace (her favorite animal). While it was a long process to find the perfect pieces for everyone, it was worth having everyone receive something unique to them. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]Our getaway plan was to be carted away at the end of the night in a golf cart, so my bridal party surprised me by decorating the golf cart with fish netting and tin cans off the back. My friend Dani Roddy is highly creative and artistic so it made the exit so memorable and was right on theme! [/field]

Strikingly elegant in its alluring simplicity, Alyssa’s gorgeous gown was created by luxury wedding dress designer Made With Love. Designed by Carla Jenkins, the Australian company describes itself as having “revolutionized the bridal world by creating beautiful and modern dresses for everyday, natural beauties” and being “known for our daring V necklines and plunging low backs as well as our luxurious French crepe dresses.” The top half of Alyssa’s sleeveless gown was graced with a white, floral lace pattern, with the lower half extending in a smooth, satin-like fall trailing a seemingly gossamer train. The dress both complimented her already radiant presence and showcased the “effortlessly chic,” unique skill of Made With Love.

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]Seamlessly harmonizing with the color theme, the differing—yet all sleeveless—bridesmaid’s dresses alternated between dusty mauve and sea foam green with the Matron of Honor in sparkling rose gold gown. All blended beautifully and held fresh bouquets inspired by the in season flowers of the region. The one bride’s man wore a neatly tailored beige suit and a blush dress shirt. The bride’s attendants exemplified the light and uplifted glee felt when summer has just begun.[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]Similar to their counterparts, the attire of the groom’s attendants smartly matched in color, theme, and style. They wore well-tailored beige suits and light green dress shirts, along with peach-hued boutonnieres. The one groom’s woman wore a stunning, sleeveless blush dress and held a brightly arranged bouquet. The groom’s attendants also represented the joy of summer’s early rays and looked effortlessly cool in their mismatched sunglasses.[/field]

Local caterer, Traiteur Ruth Williams, provided the incredible cuisine for the evening while her husband, Alan, was the bar manager and sommelier. It’s no secret that France is the country for foodies but Ruth really confirmed that during this wedding. Starting with butler passed canapés at the beginning of the evening; the food seemed never-ending. Starters included tomato and pesto tarts with burrata and fresh greens on the side. Entreé’s were a choice between Sea Bass and Steak with blistered tomatoes and the perfect sauce to compliment each drizzled on top. The highlight of the evening for many guests was the dessert charcuterie boards that were lovingly distributed on the farm tables which included traditional French pastries that were all, of course, incredible. One more surprise delight was a late-night charcuterie table filled with a variety of French breads, cheeses, meats, and spreads. Of course, Alan was there with wine recommendations to compliment the charcuterie table because there’s nothing like the perfect French wine to go with a meat and cheese table. Am I right?

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Florals by Flavia Dausoa-Dautel—of La Maison Dautel—abounded around the farmhouse, ceremony center, and reception area, with roses and other romantic buds exuding hues of pink, white, peach, and leafy green. Planted as table settings, centerpieces, surprise splashes of color, and ceremony bouquets, these blossoms aligned beautifully with the color theme and early-summer aura of the special day. The décor could not have blended better with the blooms: Largely arranged outdoors; warm lights were strung about, giving everyone a soft glow from above for dinner. A delicate white array of seats awaited all in attendance for the ceremony out in the olive tree grove. The reception spot was woven with long wooden farm tables and matching chairs. The farmhouse itself had a natural stone exterior, punctuated with sea foam shutters aptly uttering a similar shade as that of the artfully knotted napkins.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]Right after sunset, everyone lit sparklers and gathered around a glittering champagne tower (in lieu of cake-cutting). All manner of individually sized desserts appeared on tables during this time in the forms of fruit tarts, French macaroons, and chocolate delicacies. Lastly, a tall, four-tiered wedding cake arrived, lightly covered in an ivory icing and tastefully dappled with roses and blooms.[/field]

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

The Farm in Provence—nestled in the south of France where the joyous event occurred—was full of vibrant charm that day. Not only is this a historic and charming property, but it’s a quiet escape from the busy hustle and bustle of Nice, France, located just an hour away. Prior to their wedding day, Al and Alyssa arranged a tour of the local perfumery factory, Fragonard. Grasse is known for its established and successful perfume industry. While it’s a small town in the French Riviera, it offers a lot of charm and sweeping views as it’s elevated on the hills North of Cannes. Swimming in Grasse’s summer glimmers, the enchanting locale felt especially lit up for the festivities on June 24, 2023.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

The end of June is when the lavender fields are blooming in the Provence region of France and we knew we could not miss this stunning photography opportunity. Two days before their nuptials, Al and Alyssa met their photographer, The Gawnes in a lavender field. This sounds so simple and beautiful, but let me tell you, it was filled with many, many Google map location shares, a couple of confused U-turns, and an epic adventure in the French countryside, all with a time constraint to get Al and Alyssa back to Grasse in time for dinner with newly arrived family…but once everyone found each other amidst the purple blooms and rolling green hills, they all knew it was worth it. The pre-wedding lavender field shoot was one for the books.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

The Welcome Dinner was hosted at a restaurant called Le Paddock located next to an equestrian center and stable. It serves to notch traditional French cuisine and views of the horses and practice arena. The decor is upscale and modern, complete with a glass wall of wine bottles and equine-inspired modern art.
