Vintage Chic Sydney Wedding from Lovers Lane Photography

Holy moly, this Bride has some serious style. When I first laid eyes on her Sergio Rossi pumps, I nearly fainted. And when I saw her Karen Willis Holmes gown, I think I actually did. Her vintage chic style carried through her entire wedding, resulting in one seriously stunning affair. It’s a wedding you simply shouldn’t miss, and it’s all sitting pretty right here.

From the Bride… When people told me that my wedding day would be the best day of my life, I didn’t believe them. But they couldn’t have been more right. It was the most amazing day, and other than wishing it hadn’t been so hot, there is nothing I would change. Except maybe my now husband’s socks which on the day somehow got past my discerning eye. The day we had envisaged so was fun, relaxed, with a rustic (and touch of vintage) edge, which we reflected our personalities. Little details are not really our thing, so this played a part in the minimalist approach we initially took. However I ended up surprising myself and others with how things came together.

My dress was from the beautiful Karen Willis Holmes collection. “Felicity” was a strapless sweetheart neckline gown with diamantes and beaded bust line, with a multi-layered tulle skirt flowing into the train. After trying on what felt like a 1000 dresses over 6 weeks, I went back to the first one I had put on. Nothing could compare. Initially I had wanted to change dresses at the reception, to add a bit of a wow factor. But I was so in love with my dress that I couldn’t bear it. Instead I decide to change headwear. I wore a veil for the church ceremony, and for the reception changed into an amazing headpiece from Stephanie Browne. I had in my mind what I wanted but they didn’t have exactly what I wanted. But I explained my vision and they made it for me within the week (I was a bit last minute with a few things). For my shoes I wanted something I would wear again. And my Sergio Rossi mermaid caged booties were perfect. If Pete hadn’t have turned up on the day I would have gladly married my shoes!

The bridesmaid’s dresses were one of the first things I purchased. I found a magazine picture of a dress I wanted, unfortunately they didn’t have 5 so we were directed to another style on sale. They were perfect and ¼ of the budget we had set aside. So I bought them on the spot, with the Seduce staff sourcing the sizes from all over Australia and arranging for them to be express posted to me. It couldn’t have been easier!

The boy’s suits I made Pete purchase 3 months out from the wedding after he had taken no steps to get them. After that he felt his job was done, until 2 weeks before the wedding when he realized that was all he had. So 2 weeks out from the wedding we went to one shop, and bought 6 of everything (for him and the groomsmen). You know you might be in trouble when the staff are laughing at how little time you have left, however they pulled it together (with a few items arriving the day before the wedding!)

Given my lack of time, and interest, in shopping for decorations, I found most of my stuff online, particularly Etsy. It was my saviour. I spent many a work day perusing Etsy for unique ideas like the chalkboard hearts, cake topper, cootie catchers, and tutus. Organising everything online and via email was a great time saver and so easy. Getting those deliveries at work the weeks leading up to the big day made everything so much more exciting (and slightly stressful when Hurricane Sandy hit and delayed a few things, like the invitations!).

We DIY’ed a few things, primarily to keep the budget down. I had initially wanted a photobooth, but we couldn’t justify the cost. Having trawled through numerous wedding magazines I came across the photo wall idea. So mixing ply and sleepers from the hardware store, wallpaper from eBay and old photo frames from St Vincent De Paul, we made our own. We added photos of our parents and grandparents to the wall around the empty frames to give it the look of a real wall, but to also include the special people in our lives (both past and present) in some way. We had made signs directing people to the ceremony and boat (that we used to transport guests from the ceremony to the reception) to add to rustic look of the day. We also made a chalkboard seating chart (which came in handy for any last minute additions!). This was just an old frame from a vintage store we painted, with a chalkboard sheet from the hardware store nailed to it.

One of the main things that made our day possible was help from family and friends. Our music was our good friend Emma, and her band The Emma Graves Trio. On the day and after, everyone commented on how amazing a live band was and the different aspect it gives to the event than a DJ. Our table flowers were put together by my best friend’s (and MC) mum, Maria Gallery. We gave her the jars and a rough idea of what I wanted, and she put together exactly what we wanted. When I turned up to the reception I was blown away by how beautiful it looked. We chose Lovers Lane Photography as the photographers for our special day, they made us both feel so comfortable as the day can get very overwhelming, and the photos were breathtaking.

At the end of the day, the day was everything I had hoped for and more. And to future brides, my advice would be not to sweat the small the stuff. As soon as you start to walk down the aisle everything else won’t matter at all.

Belmont Harbor Engagement from Kristin La Voie Photography

There are so many, many reasons why I adore engagement sessions, but there is one that stands high above the rest: love.  The kind of love that is reserved for two engaged sweeties and bursts from every single moment of pre-wedding bliss.  It’s a love that fills your entire day with happy, and that’s exactly what these two sweeties are delivering.  Pure, unadulterated happy in every last image captured by Kristin La Voie Photography.  See it all in the full gallery.

From KristinAmanda & Michael are the type of people that will laugh and be silly, and all the while, take amazingly adorable photos without even trying. I love when everything is so effortless, and this duo certainly made that possible. We started at the bell tower at Belmont Harbor just before the sun went down past the buildings for some beautiful sunlight. We headed over the to the beach next while nearby onlookers congratulated the couple and provided some beats for us, just as Chicagoans do. For this fun going couple, the session wouldn’t be complete with a little bike ride along the harbor just as the sunset. Totally swoon-worthy!

Ontario Wedding at Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery from Vicki Bartel Photography

Soft, romantic, perfectly lovely – this wedding from Vicki Bartel is just as pretty as it gets. Filled with perfect blush hues and a sweet as they come couple, it’s hard to deny the sweetness sitting in this gallery. So join me in surrendering to all the pretty packed in this post, right here in the full gallery of images.

From Vicki BartelThey worked together but she didn’t give it any thought at the time. Just wasn’t interested. But a year later, she apprehensively decided to go on a date with him. She didn’t even wear makeup to show the fact, she still wasn’t that interested. Halfway through the date, she wished she did. Because not only was he funny and charming, he was also cute. And they hit it off, instantly. Martyna and Mike are the couple people love to be with and for a good reason. They laugh, don’t take themselves too seriously, and make the best of each situation.

Their wedding vows were exchanged at Sprucewood Shores Winery overlooking Lake Erie. Martyna put together as soft and romantic day with pinks and blush colors. It was a beautiful day celebrating two beautiful people coming together.

Grandma’s Cherry Galette

I’m thinking that this next little number is basically what Summer is all about. The freshest of fruit, simple ingredients, love spewing out of every last morsel. And while this submitter – Cynthia – never got the chance to know her grandmother, her mother always said, “your grandmother could make the simplest of ingredients taste amazing.” So that is exactly what she did with this Cherry Galette.

Cherry GaletteA fresh cherry filling wrapped in homemade pie dough.

total time

Serves 4Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, very cold plus 3 small cubes (about 1/4 of a tbs)
  • 1 lb of pitted sweet cherries
  • 1 tablespoon raw sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbs water
Instructions
  1. Fill a one cup liquid measuring cup with water, and drop in a few ice cubes; set it aside.
  2. In a large wide bowl, whisk together cups flour, sugar and salt.
  3. Dice two sticks (8 ounces or 1 cup) of very cold unsalted butter into 1/2-inch pieces.
  4. Using a mixer, a food processor or two forks, blend the cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Drop in the water until it begins to come together and doesn't seem dry.
  6. Divide the dough in half, and place each half on a large piece of plastic wrap. I like to use the sides to pull in the dough and shape it into a disk.
  7. Let the dough chill in the fridge for 2 hrs before rolling it out.
  8. Pile the cherry in the center leaving a 2” border around the rolled out dough.
  9. Fold the border towards the center. Pleating the dough to make it stick to each other. Be careful not to make thick folds of dough. Work quickly as you want the dough to stay cold.
  10. Cut 3 small cubes of butter and place them on top of the cherries.
  11. Brush the crust border with an egg + water wash and sprinkle with raw sugar.
  12. Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes or until golden.

Red Corral Ranch Wedding from Matthew Johnson Studios

The beauty of blogging for a living is that I can live anywhere in the world I want to.  I could literally pack up my bags tomorrow, catch the first flight out of the desert and, say, set up camp at the Red Corral Ranch, my new obsession and the breathtaking locale for this darling duos happily ever afters.  Sure, they may kick me out after just a few hours, but not before I really soak in the beauty that is this Hill Country paradise.  And if that doesn’t happen, then there’s always the gallery of mesmerizing images from Matthew Johnson, which is moment after moment of pure wedded bliss wrapped up in some of the prettiest details you will ever lay your eyes upon.  See it all here.

From MatthewRed Corral Ranch sits about an hour outside of Austin in the beautiful little Texas Hill Country town of Wimberley. The property has enough guest cabins to allow the wedding party and family to spend the entire weekend at the ranch, which is always a big selling point for the venue. Once out at the ranch couples have numerous spots to pick from for their ceremony, all of which will have Red Corral’s famous peacocks wandering around entertaining guests.

For Katy and Daniel, Red Corral Ranch was the perfect fit since their family is from Wimberley and they had connections to many of the vendors. Wow Factor Floral is a local Wimberley business that I always love working with as a photographer. Whenever we work together their spectacular floral arrangements and bouquets play a part in photographs that become some of the couple’s favorite images from the day.

From PiaAn Austrian couple (bride with Filipino roots) decided to take their wedding and their international group of friends to the destination of their dreams: Thailand. A year before the wedding Mark proposed to Magdalena on their last Thailand holiday, on a rooftop bar in Bangkok with a spectacular view over the city. They split their wedding celebrations in two parts, one taking place in Salzburg, Magdalena’s hometown, for family and close friends. The other half consisted of a lovely get together in Bangkok and a wedding ceremony on Ko Samui, with lots of Thai elements.

To let the special, holiday like atmosphere and celebrations come to life even more, they asked their guests to come dressed completely in white. Being asked whether she didn’t fear “not to stick out in her white dress” the bride just said – no worries, I will stick out on that day! And she did. Magdalenas natural beauty and their relaxed attitude made it such a fun and joyful event, none of the guests are ever going to forget!

Lake Lanier Islands Wedding from Amy Arrington Photography

I get a little too excited when I see a wedding from Amy Arrington, and I’ll tell you why. Her images always tell a gorgeous story, one where even the simplest moments stand out. Her ability to capture a day in that way always leaves me chomping at the bit to get her work on the pages of SMP as soon as I possibly can. The only problem is, it’s basically impossible to choose my favorite images from a wedding as gorgeous as this one, so be sure to check them all out in the full gallery of gorgeous.

From the Bride… From the dreaming stages, my husband and I knew we wanted each piece of our wedding on the lake to be uniquely meaningful. From highlighting our families by placing them on the platform with us, surprising our guests with a show from the Groom’s improv troupe, entertaining the kids with lawn games, creating a family-style table setting, we attempted to create an environment that emphasized what we felt were the key elements of any marriage. The wedding ceremony for us was a celebration of family, community, and faith.

From the beginning, we wanted to maintain a hands-on approach in the design and development of the ceremony and the celebration to follow. We personally created concept sketches, collected each vintage centerpiece, assembled flower arrangements instead of going with a floral boutique, and even built many of the ceremony’s decorative elements. I designed the save the date, the program and other graphic elements, and worked with the lovely Anya’s bridal to personalize my ruched satin and soft organza ruffle wedding gown, deciding to add some sassyness and contrast to it by angling its straight fit and flare silhouette and adding a bridal trim I found on Etsy.

We chose a rustic door as the ceremony centerpiece. This kept our family, community and faith in the forefront because we wanted our new home to have an open-door-policy for all three. My husband, using a painting technique his father taught him, painted and weathered the door with our mint accent color and adorned it with a cross made out of a door handle which we found at an antique store. It only felt natural to include outdoor elements in the design as well, so we created an earthy display for our desserts by having a table top made of planed and varnished sections of tree trunks with wooden barrels for legs. We used salvaged twigs in our DIY flower arrangements, and placed flowers in each bridesmaid’s hairstyle. We kept things fun for our friends and family with the Mongoose Improv show, silly photo booth, gelato and cappucinos, sweet table loaded with delicate desserts created by my aunt and her company Trudle’s Catering, and metallic hand rolled streamers for our send-off. The atmosphere was fun and festive- a perfect blend of the sanctity of the occasion and the camaraderie of those who witnessed it.

We wanted our day to be a unique reflection of our individual personalities and our tastes as a couple as well as to give us the opportunity to highlight and give back to those who have helped make us who we are. This was an opportunity we cherished and, in the end, we think that’s exactly what we got. [dotted]

5 Tips for a Boudoir Shoot from Je T’aime Beauty

OK, ladies, I totally get it. Even thinking about doing a boudoir session is intimidating. Believe you me, I’m right there with you! But when I see a gorgeous shoot like this one that Je T’aime Beauty sent over? I’m reminded of what a fun surprise this would be for any groom. So, to help us all break out our inner bombshell, we asked the team behind these flirtatious photos to give us a few pointers…

From Je T’aime Beauty… Every bride dreams of looking beautiful for her husband to be and here we show a collection of how every bride wants to feel: happy, in love and having fun. We start with the bride in her wedding gown and show her getting undressed and into her beautiful bridal lingerie. We love how this collection showcases that you can be beautiful and sexy and still have fun! Brides, we hope this inspires you all to show a little sexy, sweeter side of yourselves!

1. Make it personal! Bring your wedding veil, shoes or a favorite item (sports jerseys, hats, white collar shirt) that belongs to your fiance. The familiar items help make you more comfortable during the shoot.

2. Have fun! Most women are not born natural models, but it’s our job to make them feel and look that way. So we tell our clients to just have fun and enjoy themselves!

3. Trust your photographer. It’s important that you find a photographer you can trust so you will feel comfortable being sexy in front of the camera. Trust your photographer and let him or her direct and pose you.

4. Get dolled up! Not only is professional hair and makeup better for the camera but it also makes all of our clients feel more confident for the shoot. Kacee Geoffroy gave our model a smokey eye and voluminous hair which adds to the mystery and sensuality of the photographs.

5. Pamper yourself prior to your session. Touch up your hair color, get a facial (a couple of weeks before is recommended), bikini wax, manicure and pedicure. Treating yourself gives you a feeling of confidence that will only add to the final result. And, most of our clients only do this once, so why not?!

Minnesota Winter Wedding from Paper Antler Photography

So I might be the most unpopular person in the the blogosphere for this…but I’m fully looking forward to winter. Because to be totally honest, I’m the kind of girl who’d prefer cozying up by the fireplace to laying out on the beach any day of the week. Crazy. I know. So when my favorites from Paper Antler sent over this elegant winter wedding in the dead of summer, it felt a little like Christmas morning. And if you happen to be a cold weather lover like me, I’m oh-so-certain you’ll be happy spending this August day right here.

From the Bride… My family’s home holds some of my most precious memories so we chose its country setting to set the tone for our wedding.  We paired this country house inspiration with our reception’s formal lakeside ballroom to create our French Country Formal theme.  The colors were held together by warm cream tones mixed with muted gold, as well as greyed blues and pinks.  We incorporated rich fabrics – a grandmother’s fur, velvet seats in a family sleigh, and brocaded lace.  To bring the “country” into our ballroom setting, we found handcrafted wood farm tables and adorned them with loads of votive candles next to reflective pieces – silver candelabras, gold vases, and mercury glass.  To soften the tables, we introduced full florals – heirloom English garden roses, hydrangeas, peonies and hints of soft greens.

Brooklyn Botanical Gardens Wedding from Aurelia D’Amore

I have to say, I think The Brooklyn Botanic Garden has to be one of the dreamiest venues I ever did see. There, I said it. My love struck proclamation might have a little something to do with this stunning soiree captured so beautifully I could cry by Aurelia D’Amore. It’s a Brooklyn beauty if there ever was one, and it’s all waiting for you right here.

From the Bride…My whole family hails from Brooklyn. We were scattered throughout the borough for years, but over the decades we all slowly moved away, and our ties to it have grown more and more tenuous year by year. So my family was really excited when Aidan and I re-established our roots there by moving to Park Slope in 2009—but they were ecstatic when we decided to get married at the Palm House at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

We had a late-fall wedding, and we spent months panicking about the weather. And then, the night before the ceremony, there was a pretty epic rainstorm (a week later we had Hurricane Sandy, by the way). But that Saturday morning, we woke up to bright, sunny skies: barely a cloud in sight, temperatures in the sixties… pretty much the perfect day. So nice, in fact, that Aidan walked with his groomsmen (and one groom’s lady) from our apartment to the wedding. And later on, during the ceremony, as the sun set into a clear, starry sky in full view of the all-glass Palm House, we knew we really couldn’t have lucked out more.

The ceremony, not surprisingly, was my favorite part of the night. Our friend Cody, who introduced us seven years ago, officiated, and the three of us wrote the whole thing together. Cody is a fantastic comedienne, and she had everyone laughing and crying throughout, which was perfect. We didn’t want the ceremony to be boring, but we didn’t want to make light of it either. Case in point: for our two readings one was Cody and my brother Jordan (also an actor) performing a classic comedy routine that my cousins first performed on the Ed Sullivan Show in the 60s; and the second was Aidan’s boss, Lewis Lapham, reading a beautiful poem by the thirteenth-century Sufi poet Rumi.

It was all perfect. We used a ring that had been first worn by Aidan’s great-great-grandparents in the 1890s and was used in over a dozen ceremonies in his family since. My two grandmothers and Aidan’s grandmother walked down the aisle during the processional, arm in arm with Aidan’s groomspeople—the oldest and the youngest generations flanking us to remind us of the family who produced us and the future that this wedding was a promise toward. The bridesmaids got multiple catcalls during from the audience as they came down the aisle, and before Cody said a word, there were tears and hysterical laughter from all sides. And Cody knocked it out of the park—she was basically the best officiant/emcee anyone could ever hope for.

Following on the heels of our weather luck, we soon discovered how fortunate we were to have selected the vendors we did, because they were all amazing. Of particular excellence was our photographer, Aurelia D’Amore, who flew out from Los Angeles. Her pictures are gorgeous, and we still can’t figure out which ones to choose for our wedding album– they’re all too good! And our DJ, Taro Baugham, who works with Sugartown Industries, nailed every single section of the night, from ceremony to last dance. For us, after the venue and the ceremony, the music was our biggest priority. We’re both obsessive music nuts, and Taro was extremely patient with us as we handpicked each playlist and requested a ton of must-play songs, and he took the way-too-many songs we selected for dancing and crafted a perfect set. The dance floor was packed all night; it didn’t matter whether Taro played Del Shannon or Phoenix. And watching our grandmothers shimmy with equal fervor to the Hava Nagila as they did to ODB was a real treat.

Our friends and family came from all over: Los Angeles and New York, England and Singapore. And after weeks of planning and worrying, everything went off without a hitch—and we were left with the perfect night that we will forever treasure.

And when I say jaw-dropping, I mean you’ll physically have to pick it up off your desk, because this wedding is just beyond. From the stunning vistas to the gorgeous (totally in love) couple, and everything in between – there isn’t a prettier place to be this afternoon then this gallery of images.

From the Bride…A destination wedding was perfect for us- we love to travel and wanted to appreciate every minute we could with our families who travelled from all over the world to celebrate our marriage in Turks & Caicos.

We had been to Turks & Caicos once before, however neither of us had ever visited The Gansevoort before the wedding. We planned everything in good faith over email and arrived on the island to no unwelcome surprises.

The long weekend was highlighted by a bhangra flash mob at our wedding reception, an intimate portrait session on an uninhabited island in T&C, an impromptu karaoke night between both families and our guests, and the brief, yet peaceful, delicate sprinkle of rain only minutes before our wedding. While I enjoyed planning the creative details of our wedding- the customized fake tattoos, the s’mores bar at our rehearsal dinner, the playlist throughout the night- at the end of the day, it’s easy to get wrapped up in the perfect everything, but still, the most impactful memory from the wedding was the energy and excitement from our friends and family, which we will always remember.

La Jolla Wedding from Sequins and Candy Photography

From the second I saw this sweet couple’s oh-so-fun engagement session, I could not wait to get my hands on their wedding. I just knew their day would be a gorgeous one, and with Sequins and Candy Photography behind the lens, it was guaranteed to be captured beautifully. Well, my suspicions were true, and every last image sitting pretty in this gallery is a must see for sure. See them all here.

From Sequins and CandyNickisa and Kaveh were married at Scripps Seaside Forum on a stunning La Jolla day.. it was breathtaking, crystal clear, 180 degree views of turquoise ocean and gorgeous sunshine. They just graduated Medical School at USD and this wedding was quite the celebration with friends and family. They celebrated with a Persian/American ceremony which included a gorgeous Sofreh. They held many traditions such as dipping their fingers in honey to signify a sweet life. These two celebrated their love in the beginning of the year with me as I shot a sun-kissed, hot air balloon, cupcake eating engagement session that was featured right here on SMP. This doctor-couple only knows how to be awesome.

Austin Wedding from The Nouveau Romantics + Caroline Joy Photography

This wedding has two beautiful sides. On one end is the laid back, bohemian cool feel of Austin and the other is straight up classic. Think Rivini and garden roses mixed with kraft paper and an oreo cookie tower. All mixed together, it’s pure genius crafted and floraled by The Nouveau Romantics with many a pretty image shot by Caroline Joy Photography. Have a look here for even more of this Scottish wedding, Texas Style.

From the Bride…Barry proposed on a mountain top in Scotland and the breathtaking scenery was effortless in its beauty and romance. Both from Scotland originally, we have been planning our emigration to USA for a few years and we move this August. A proposal in the heart of our motherland was the pinnacle of our dating life together and a fitting farewell to the country. When it came to planning our wedding we wanted to celebrate the start of married life in our soon-to-be new home. We adore Austin’s bohemian, relaxed vibe and wanted to take the opportunity to showcase the city to family and friends. There can’t be many couples lucky enough to have almost ALL of their guests travel up to 4000miles to celebrate with them but every single one of ours made an exceptional effort to be with us. We were honoured by their love and support. Having an intimate group of 45 allowed us to focus the budget on quality and focus our attention on our guests. The ‘destination’ aspect meant we had a week of extended celebrations and activities with guests bonding friendships and sharing the odd poolside BBQ.

Barry and I were confident about how we wanted the wedding to look and feel from an early stage. We wanted to stray away from convention and aspired for it to be authentic, local and organic. We aimed to make our guests feel welcome, appreciated, and most of all have fun! Every single detail was purposefully chosen with great care and attention. When we first visited Barr Mansion we knew it was the place for us. The only certified organic venue in the USA it boasts idyllic grounds, a picture perfect Victorian mansion and beautifully restored barn-turn-ballroom. They served the most delicious organic & locally sourced Texan feast and baked our exquisite cake. We were inspired by the organic, natural beauty of our venue and let the setting speak for itself. We chose a palette of soft delicate colours and decor with an Earthy feel.  We decided to drape fabric to section off the ballroom and hired farm tables to create an intimate banquet atmosphere. Soft drapery hung from the ballroom stage to create a stunning backdrop for our amazing dessert table. We spent months collecting hundreds of clear votives and vases to fill the room with the flickering glow of candles.  We were excited to have the team from Nouveau Romantics turn all of our inspiration into reality on the day. Liz shared our aesthetic completely, was approachable, friendly and not at all demanding of artist control.

Our wedding day, which was exactly 6 years from our first date, turned out to be the coldest  May 2nd in Austin since 1936 but we tried to embrace it with grace. The wind blew my veil straight out my head during the ceremony but my handsome husband wrapped his arms around me to keep me warm and everyone was brought closer together with a little laughter and light. Our ceremony though short and sweet was intimate and personal. We had a special family friend lead us with traditional Scottish bagpipes, my beloved sister gave a heart felt reading & my sweet bridesmaid serenaded us with a beautiful song. We passed our rings around for a warming-ceremony to truly include everyone in our union. The dinner was delicious, dessert table goodies devoured quickly and midnight pizza bar was a welcome fuel for non stop dancing. Special memories for me include a blissful morning of pampering with my unbelievable sisters and mum, the few special moments standing with my dad before he walked me down the aisle and kissing my mum on the cheek before standing with my groom. Hearing my little sister squeal “my big sister is married!!” right after our vows really reminded me of the incredible step Barry and I had just taken together. One of our most treasured moments as a couple was our first look. An intimate moment to collect ourselves and enjoy each other before the ceremony- it was soothing and romantic. Caroline Joy captured some breathtaking photos and this allowed us to enjoy the rest of the evening with our guests.

We are so grateful to our incredible family for their never ending support. We are humbled by their dedication and devotion to our happiness and celebration of our love. We are so happy that we had the courage to take the risk on a destination event. We had the wedding of our dreams that truly reflected ‘us’. All of the hard work was worthwhile as the entire evening was completely enchanting. Looking back on our beautiful photos we feel so grateful for a celebration filled with love, friendship and family. Our very own Scottish wedding in Texas!

Hosting an Authentic English Tea Party

I am a tea snob, through and through. So you can only imagine my excitement surrounding the idea of an English Tea Party to ring in ones 30th birthday. And it’s now fairly safe to say that my future 30th is officially planned (thanks ladies!) Co-designed and styled by Ashley Baber  for Liz Cook
Photography
, this one is chalk full of inspiration of the prettiest kind. And it’s all right here in the gallery.

From Liz Cook… Every birthday deserves acknowledgement, but the start of a new decade of life is cause for a celebration. I decided for the first time in my life, I was going to throw in the towel and plan my own party to celebrate turning 30. When the stars aligned and the ladies from Cater This! told me about their Authentic English Afternoon experience, I was sold! I love getting dolled up and enjoying afternoon tea whenever possible, so it only made sense to celebrate with something I enjoy so much. I immediately contacted Amanda from Ashley Baber Weddings, my go-to for planning and styling advice. Together, we brainstormed the look and feel and the entire day came together flawlessly. Amanda suggested the perfect linens from La Tavola Linen and chair jackets from BBj Linen and it was love at first sight for me. Mary Ellen from Irvington Spring farm gathered together the most beautiful florals from her local garden and they became the glue that brought the whole look together against the unique backdrop of exposed brick in Tresca on 8th’s upstairs space. Each and every vendor involved contributed to create the lovely, victorian feel of the afternoon.

After guests arrived they were directed to their seats by custom made jewelry bags labeled with each person’s name and stuffed with coordinating coffee cozies and a hair pin. Place settings were adorned with individual menus designed by Jenna from I Can Do that Design. Once seated, our English Afternoon Experience began just as storm clouds rolled in and rain began sprinkling the windows. It felt like we were transported to England for just a few minutes. Perfection.

The first course was a selection of freshly prepared finger sandwiches including a traditional cucumber, chicken salad, and my favorite: the zucchinni sweet bread. The second course included delicious warm scones with clotted cream and preserves. We broke out of tradition to take the third course of homemade cakes and pastries over to the lounge side of the room to enjoy alongside of a group game.

The game I selected, Fish Bowl, is a fun spin on Charades. Guests had so much fun we played it twice! We wrapped up the evening by enjoying the beautiful and delicious ribbon cake designed by Jennifer of La Bella Torta.

Overall, the event was a huge hit and the absolute best way to ring in my 30s!

Fullerton, California Wedding from Alders Photography

This bride has some of the best advice for couples tying the knot… “Always make time to eat cake.” Especially when your cake is this pretty. Alders Photography captured her beautiful wedding and put everything from the ridiculous gorg floral design to the cool lounge furniture from Found Vintage Rentals in a gallery for your viewing pleasure!

Eatery

From the beautiful bride… We met in Fall 2007 during our senior year at St. Lawrence University. On January 13, 2012 we took the Aerial Tramway ride to the top of the mountains in Palm Springs, and Dan proposed with the ring he designed, including South African diamonds cut in California, New York and South Africa to represent where we’re from and where we met.

We wanted an indoor/outdoor space and the Summit House has a beautiful outdoor patio which is where we held our cocktail hour. The reception was held indoors and provided us enough space for eating, dancing and a photo booth. The staff also went above and beyond our expectations!

We wanted to have some bright accents even though we were having a winter wedding so we used navy blue, gray with peach and orange. Dan had a beautiful navy blue suit that he wanted to wear for the wedding. The bridesmaids’ dresses were a graphite gray and we used peach, orange and white flowers.

Dan is from Zimbabwe and his mother was able to bring over fabric from home to incorporate. We made the fabric into pillow cases and they were used in the lounge area during the reception. We also had a fondant poppy and flame lily placed on our wedding cake to represent our home state/country.

Our first look held in the hotel where we all stayed was a special moment before we started our day. The speeches made by Sarah’s father, sister and Dan’s brother were all so touching and hilarious. We quickly went from tears to hysterical laughter!

We would recommend to schedule enough time for getting ready so there is some time to relax before the day gets started with photos, etc. Enjoy each moment and don’t stress about the details on the day! And always make time to eat cake!
