Married in an Olive Grove at Renaissance Esmeralda Indian Wells

An elegant, garden-inspired design meets a striking desert oasis – the most unexpectedly perfect pair! Today’s gorgeous couple tied the knot under a blooming floral arbor by Lily Roden Floral Studio with breathtaking views of nearby mountains. My Beloved Events brought their modern wedding dreams to reality with every memorable moment – all captured to perfection in the full gallery by Christina Skari!

From My Beloved EventsCassidy and Nicholas’ wedding took place in the town Nicholas grew up in, Indian Wells. They met in law school and immediately had a spark between the two of them.

They are a perfect balance for each other. Cassidy had this stunning vision of what she wanted their wedding to look like.

We came up with a very modern, sophisticated, elegant wedding for them. The balance of feminine touches with the whimsical flowers paired with more of a modern elegant chair and timeless colors as black and white really made her vision come to life.

The reception was under a tent that we transformed to look like you were in dream with the hanging greenery and twinkling lights. It truly was a stunning, memorable wedding.

Easy Ways To Incorporate That “Something Blue”

You’ve heard the saying, “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” but what does it mean and how serious should you be about this specific wedding ritual? It comes from an old English tradition that is meant to ward off the “evil eye”. Whether you’re a hardcore believer or just want to incorporate these items into your wedding for tradition’s sake, we’re here to help! The hardest piece to find is usually the something blue, especially if blue isn’t necessarily in your color palette or ensemble. Here are some super-easy ways to incorporate something blue into your wedding look–for the bold, the basic, and every bride in between.

Shoes

Wearing your something blue on your feet is a fun way to keep the tradition, plus it really opens up your options when you’re shoe shopping. Depending on the length of your dress, you can show them off if you want to or just let them peek out ever so slightly as you walk down the aisle. Another great thing about blue shoes is that scuffs and dirt marks don’t show up on them as much as they do on a white or ivory shoe.

Anastasia Belik

Mani

Blue bridal manis are on the rise and we’ve rounded up a few of our faves for a little inspiration. Don’t be afraid to play with texture or some subtle nail art. Your rings should still be the focal point, but the right shade of blue will make them pop even more.

Melanie Graves

Jewelry

Chances are you were already planning on buying “something new” to wear for your big day, whether it’s some statement earrings or a delicate necklace. So, why not kill two birds with one stone and make it your “something blue” too?

Shannon Moffit Photography

Dress

Colorful wedding dresses are becoming more and more popular, and we love a blue dress! From delicate layers of dusty blue tulle that make it look like you’re floating on air to ornate lace in a vibrant robin’s egg blue, you really can’t go wrong. And if you’re concerned about it not being “bridal” enough, here’s a good rule to follow: If it would be offensive if you wore it to someone else’s wedding, it’s a wedding dress.

Nathalie Cheng Photography

Clutch

You’ll need a clutch to carry your phone, your lipstick, and anything else you may need for touchups throughout the day. Instead of investing in a white or ivory clutch that you’ll likely never wear again, check out these blue clutches that will turn into staple pieces in your going-out wardrobe.

Lynne Reznick Photography

Lingerie

If you’re looking for a way to check your something blue off your box in a more subtle, shall we say, secret way, blue lingerie is the perfect fit! Whether you go all out on an entire set or something smaller like a blue garter, your S.O. will be pleasantly surprised when they get to see a pop of color that’s for their eyes only.

Romantic Lowcountry Vibes for this Charming Spring Wedding

These high school sweethearts celebrated their love with a day that feels like we’ve fallen into a fairytale.  We can’t get enough of the romantic florals designed by Em Creative Florals filling the tented reception, and special details like a canopy of wicker lanterns hanging from overhead designed by Spencer Special Events. Every inch of pretty is beautifully captured in imagery by IVS Photography, take a closer look inside the full gallery.

Matthew and Emily are classic high school sweethearts. They dated throughout their school years, and when it came time to propose, Matthew had a plan. On a trip to Palm Beach, Matt waited until the perfect sunset evening to pop the question. Then, he got down on one knee beside the ocean and asked Emily to marry him.

The pair’s Lowcountry wedding day felt like stepping into a fairytale. Emily wore a chic square neck gown with beautiful 3D floral lace appliqué and a long train that was utterly romantic. After the most charming church ceremony, guests moved waterside to the bourbon bar cart for cocktail hour.

The floral-covered Sperry tent was a statement maker and set the tone for the rest of the night. Dancing was held under a canopy of wicker lanterns and greenery before guests moved indoors to the disco ball after party.

A Perfectly “Lucky” Charleston Wedding Weekend in Shades of Blue & White

This classic Charleston wedding done in blue and white is full of charm.  Anderson Event Design planned a day that delights filled with tender moments and what the bride’s nearest and dearest like to call “Megan’s Luck”- an ode to her positivity. Floral design by Festoon is the exclamation mark on a momentous occasion.  Fall in love with every artful image shot by Rebecca Sigety Photography inside the full gallery.

From Rebecca Sigety Photography“Megan’s Luck” was a phrase I heard all weekend long. An ode to our beautiful bride’s positive, joyful and welcoming spirit, Megan & Max’s wedding weekend seemed especially lucky. From the most beautiful early fall Charleston weather to the dreamy blue and white coastal aesthetic, each moment of the day was absolutely perfect. I had the pleasure of meeting Megan and Max earlier this year when I captured their beautiful (and brisk!) engagement session among the cobblestone streets of Charleston and the sandy shores of Folly Beach. Along for the ride was their sweet pup, Marty, who doesn’t know a stranger and simply loves everyone he meets! Megan, Max, and Marty’s fun loving and adventurous spirits made for a beautiful session and the perfect opportunity for me to really learn the ins and outs of this sweet couple and their relationship. Megan and Max met working at a start up in New York City. Same floor, but different departments, it didn’t take these two long to realize they had met someone special. When Megan received a job opportunity in San Francisco, it took Max only a phone call to his mom asking for some sage wisdom, to know that he needed to keep Megan a part of his life. Engaged, and now several cross country moves later, these two chose the Holy City as the perfect place to say I Do. Megan and Max kicked off their wedding weekend in absolute style. They welcomed their guests with custom wedding weekend welcome baskets at The Dewberry Charleston to kick off their celebration. But I met Meg and Max at The Dewberry’s Living Room Bar for a quick cocktail before we headed across the Cooper to Mount Pleasant’s Historic Old Village and the charming blue and white The Post House Inn. But I dare not skip over our most adorable mode of transportation. Low Country Valet‘s baby blue bus ‘Dorothy’ was our ride for the evening and the perfect backdrop for some quick snaps before we headed to dinner. The Post House Inn is a charming coastal spot, adored by locals and flocked to by tourists in Charleston’s summers for their fresh coastal offerings and creative cocktails. We started the evening on their open air patio with all the low country favorites – oysters on the half shell, shrimp cocktail and a hamachi crudo that’s simply to die for. The party was abuzz with champagne and Aperol Spritz’ as family and friends reunited to celebrate their favorite duo. Dinner was served in the eclectic and charming Rose Room. The long tables were furnished with the last of summer’s blooms: garden roses, blue bells and perfectly placed greenery as the parents, maid of honor and best man delivered their toasts to the couple. Of course, there was more mention of Megan’s extraordinary luck, but Christine (Megan’s maid of honor), made sure to adorn Max with all of the good luck charms she could find to make sure he wouldn’t feel the least bit unlucky – but it was pretty clear all weekend that Max may have just been the luckiest person in the room.

We woke on Saturday to not a cloud in the sky and made our way to PPHG’s William Aiken House, on King Street in Downtown Charleston. This historic building sits amongst the bustling shopping and dining district on the Holy City’s busiest strip, but once you’re inside it’s walls, you’re immediately transported into it’s magic and immersed in the historic beauty, both inside and outside of the home. Megan and Max chose to continue their blue and white coastal aesthetic throughout the wedding day, effortlessly designed by Anderson Event Design. Megan’s bridesmaids and honorary bridesmaids chose a mix of blue and blue and white floral dresses while the reception space was adorned with blue and white linens and plates, caned hurricane vases and signage and perfectly accented by Festoon‘s neutral floral palette. The ceremony arch was a true showstopper, but perhaps my favorite details of the day were the unique bridal and bridemaid’s bouquets, each organically arranged and the perfect accent pieces to their blue and white backgrounds. After a sweet first look with not just Max, but with her dad AND her bridesmaids, I whisked the couple off and into Charleston’s historic district for every photographer’s wedding day dream!

We spent an hour wandering the historic streets to capture beautiful portraits of just our couple. And in true “Megan’s Luck” fashion, we practically had the city to ourselves with glowy light that rivaled ‘golden hour’. Upon our return, we captured photos with family, their bridal parties and of course, Marty, who couldn’t help but steal kisses from his two favorite humans. And before we knew it, it was time for the main event. Megan and Max’s ceremony was an intimate and joyful affair, tucked into William Aiken’s carriage house lot. They exchanged traditional vows as they stood before their families and friends. And even Marty made a surprise appearance as their ‘ring bearer’ before the couple exchanged rings and their first kiss as husband and wife! They recessed through a celebration of white rose petals and headed off into the literal sunset as Mr. And Mrs. Wilde. After a beautiful candlelit dinner, Megan and Max danced the night away before a grand exit into their classic getaway car. But no William Aiken wedding day would be complete without a quick snap below a custom sign at the classic American Theater next door. I think it’s easy to see that it’s not only Megan that’s the lucky one. Megan and Max are equally lucky in love and I was lucky to be a small part of the amazing team that brought this perfect weekend together! Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Wilde!

Brooklyn Brigade Has Answered The Call–Finally, Suits Designed For Weddings

For men, finding a wedding suit can be hard. Most of us work from home these days and probably don’t have a suit in the closet, or at least one that still fits! And it can be so hard to know where to shop online when it comes to formal menswear. Well, let us steer you in the right direction. If you’re looking for something stylish, but still comfortable, then we have the perfect brand for you–Brooklyn Brigade. Known for mixing vintage and utilitarian details with modern performance fabrics and finishes, they’ve created a collection of suiting separates designed with weddings in mind and we love! Here’s why…

Finally, A Suit That Can Hang

Why is it that as adults, weddings are one of the only times that we get to bust out our dance moves, but for some reason, we’re expected to hold our own in multiple layers and head-to-toe wool? Sweat marks, wrinkles–it’s a recipe for disaster! That’s why Brooklyn Brigade uses stretch knit in their suit separates, performance fabrics with cooling comfort technology for their dress shirts, and puts a stain-resistant finish on their accessories. And both the suits and shirts have odor resistance which is always a plus! Now you can party with the best of them and end the night looking just as good as when you arrived. Walk of shame, who?

Accessorize Like A Pro

As you’ve probably already realized, weddings require a lot of planning, especially when it comes to colors. And because the suits and dresses come from different brands, one of the hardest things to do is coordinate the colors for the bridal party. Thankfully, Brooklyn Brigade has already thought of everything and designed their accessories to match the most popular bridesmaid brands like Birdy Grey, Dessy, David’s Bridal, Azazie, and more! They even make it super easy with a color chart on their website that helps you match up their accessories with the specific color names for each individual brand. Couples can choose from traditional neckties and pre-tied bow ties with matching pocket squares. Brooklyn Brigade also has tie clips and lapel pins, which make great gifts for your groomsmen!

Timeless Options

Brooklyn Brigade offers each three-piece suit in 4 timeless colors: tan, jet black, smoke, and river blue. In a world where we have too many options at our fingertips, we find it super helpful to have a simple selection of classic colors that will never go out of style–you can’t go wrong. If you want to spice up your look, they do offer 8+ colors in their signature dress shirt and 13 colors in their accessories.

Be sure to follow @bklynbrigade on Instagram for plenty of menswear style inspo and sale alerts!

A Romantic Elopement in Sussex With Breathtaking Views of the Iconic White Cliffs!

There’s just something so sweet about elopements… a table for two, an epic view, and a love to last a lifetime. Today’s might just be one of our favorites of all time, inspired by the epic Seven Sisters in Sussex, UK – the setting of this gorgeous day! Planned by Irina Kn, the entire design is the epitome of effortless elegance. Fragrant whites, deep browns and subtle pops of green made for the perfect color palette for the modern arrangements by Fine Stems. To see this seaside beauty up close, head on over to the full gallery by Nina Gorshunova!

From Irina Kn… We had the privilege to create a wedding anniversary photoshoot for a gorgeous couple – Filipa Cardoso, a talented millinery artist, and her husband Daniel Vianna. A couple of meetings with them gave us an insight into their relationship and the kind of love they share with each other.

For the kind of easy, warm love they share with each other we chose the breathtaking white cliffs, the Seven Sisters, in Sussex, UK. In the warm embrace of the setting sun they shared a few beautiful moments. As twilight approached they warmed themselves with champagne and oysters at a cliff-top reception for two.

The colour palette for our photoshoot was inspired by the shades of the cliffs, the sea, the sky and the wild flowers at the scene. The invisible yet familiar smell of the sea was an inspiration as well.

For Filipa, we wanted a dress that perfectly highlighted her effortless beauty. Our search ended when we found the perfect dress by Elizabeth Fillmore at an exclusive Browns bride boutique. The outfit and look was completed with elegant headpieces designed by the bride herself. The headpieces added the perfect touch of chic and drama.

Nothing lifts the mood like fresh flowers and for this setup we chose flowers that almost felt they were indigenous to the setting. Fragrant whites, wild browns and hints of green.

The entire set came together beautifully and was captured by us as the couple shared their true, warm love for each other.

The Wedding Logistics Tool That Every Couple Needs–Text My Guests

These days, everyone is so spread out, and you likely have people traveling from all over the country (and possibly the world) to come to your wedding. So, naturally, there’s a lot of communication that needs to happen and it doesn’t all fit on a beautifully calligraphed invitation. Sure, you’ve got a wedding website, but let’s be real, a lot of guests won’t even read it. So, how do you make sure everyone knows where to be and when and any other important wedding-related info? Text My Guests is revolutionizing the way couples communicate with their family and friends about their big day, and weddings have never gone so smoothly! Used by hundreds of weddings each year across North America, their service allows you to preschedule an unlimited number of text messages to your guests. From shuttle schedules to COVID travel updates, you can make sure your guests are in the know in real-time.

[iframe http://www.youtube.com/embed/sqeZ8P65Exg 600 338]

COMMUNICATION IS KEY

In an ideal world, you’d send out your wedding invitations and guests would RSVP long before the requested date and that would be that. Guests would know when they need to book their room for the hotel block and know exactly where to park for the wedding. But, unfortunately, there are often a lot of details that guests overlook and end up floundering over at the last minute, or they end up blowing up your phone with questions. You’ve got enough on your plate, with a wedding to plan. With Text My Guests, you can set up pre-scheduled reminders for all of the important dates so that your guests don’t miss a beat and (more importantly) you don’t need to answer the same questions a million times over. You can also send real-time updates if plans change. Whether the reception moves because of rain or the shuttle is running late, you can keep your guests informed with one text–it’s that easy!

SORT BY GROUPS

One of our favorite features of Text My Guests is the ability to sort your guests into groups. Let your “Bridesmaids” group know when they need to arrive at the getting-ready suite for hair and makeup and let your “Vendors” group know which entrance they should use at the venue for setting up.

INSTA-GRATIFICATION

It takes weeks (sometimes months) to get your wedding photos back from your photographer. Thankfully, you’ve got a ton of guests that will be snapping their own photos. But unless you plan on reaching out to each of your guests individually or stalking your wedding hashtag on social media, you may never see some of these gems. With Text My Guests, your guests can share their photos to your dedicated number in one place so you can have some Insta-gratification.

EVERYONE CAN USE IT–EVEN GRANDMA

With Text My Guests, there’s no app required, so everyone can use it! Yes, even grandma’s flip phone won’t have a problem. And, unlike snail mail or e-mails that can go unread, 97% of text messages are opened and read within 15 minutes of delivery. So you can rest assured knowing your guests are actually seeing all of the important info you send their way.

A SPECIAL OFFER FOR OUR SMP READERS

Communication is key to planning the wedding of your dreams!  Luckily for our SMP readers, you can get 10% of your purchase of this game-changing service when you use code SMP10. High fashion and a little bit country – today’s wedding inspiration is for the rustic chic brides at heart. Alexa Kay Events played with the juxtaposition of clean lines and cowboy hats to pull off an aesthetic that’s sure to inspire. Magnolia Ranch Events created organic arrangements full of locally sourced floral in deep jewel tones. Giddy up on over to the full gallery captured by Jenny Shipley to see all the beauty this editorial has to offer!

From Jenny Shipley… For this editorial, we wanted to harness the natural beauty of Jackson Hole by using rustic features like cutlery with wooden handles, wood paper, and cowboy hats juxtaposed with an elegant, clean-lined table design, a custom-made ceremony wedding dress, and romantic florals. The team captured all that we love about purple mountains’ majesty by using a subtle color palette featuring pops of deep jewel tones.

Warmly hosting the event were the owners of the private estate, Antelope Trails Ranch. Table Design by Alexa Kay Events brought the magical feel of an evening affair to the scene. Our real-life couple was stunningly captured in the great wilderness by photographer Jenny Shipley and videographer Saltrock Studios. Morgan Riley Design brought a delicate art sketch to wedding stationery, and Magnolia Ranch Events brought in a combination of natural and locally sourced florals with deep color to give a pop.

The ceremony dress was hand-made by the Midwest US and Ukrainian designers, Potapenko & Yanchenko. Amrita Beverages craftily and soulfully made a few welcome refreshments for the team on the day of the shoot. XOWyo + Events provided unique deep stone platting, glassware, and cutlery.

A Monochromatic Chic Ranch Wedding In Carmel Valley

What’s not to love about a stylish ranch wedding with pops of shiny disco balls? This Holman Ranch wedding immaculately planned by Coastside Couture is sure to steal your heart.  White blooms from Valley Flores Designs add to the chicness of the day, and you can feel the love and joy shine through the beautiful imagery captured by Alicia Mink.  See all the lovely inside the full gallery.

From Coastside CoutureAlex and Maria were married on a perfect June day in Carmel Valley at the stunning Holman Ranch. The vibe was monochromatic chic with pops of black and of course disco balls. Guests were greeted on the ceremony lawn with refreshments and parasols before being seated for the ceremony which was preceded over by two Judges who were friends of the family.

After the ceremony guests mingled in the Rose Patio with a large round central bar. Craft cocktails were mixed by the Bartenders from Pour Girl while guests participated in a giant paint by numbers paining of the Hacienda at Holman Ranch. The seating was inspired by the couples favorite records, a hint at the dance party to follow.

Dinner was a spectacular family style spread complete with interactive paella stations by aradise Catering. The guests shared many toasts before being treated to an epic dessert spread by Edith Meyer Wedding Cakes. After a dose of sugar the group was ready for the dance party in the Carriage House, DJ’d by Maria of Heart Of Gold, an all female DJ company out of San Francisco.

Surrounded by the stunning back drop of Snowmass Mountain, this green and white wedding is simply stunning.  When the couple couldn’t find the perfect archway for their outdoor ceremony, the groom decided to build one himself! Forget Me Knot Weddings planned a day that brought all of our bride and groom’s wedding day dreams to life, and Amy Lauren Floral Design filled it with blooms that will take your breath away.  You’ll fall head over heels in love with the incredible imagery shot by Jacie Marguerite Fine Art Photographer, see it all inside the full gallery.

From the bride… We met as college athletes at the University of Miami, passing by each other in the halls of the athletic department, but never connecting romantically. It wasn’t until the bride became long time friends with the grooms sister, and many years later, when the attraction sparked and fate happened! The timing was just right, I guess. We had a very intimate wedding and so many moments stand out as memorable. Reciting our vows with the stunning backdrop of Snowmass Mountain and the oreo cows that came out to graze was magical. Walking down the aisle literally took our breath away. It didn’t matter which direction you turned, there was beauty everywhere! Also the Groom’s brother, who got ordained just for our wedding, as the minister was so special. We found a way to incorporate all of our family members in the wedding somehow. The brides best friend gave a speech and knocked it out of the park! It connected us all as family and showed how fate brought us all together.

We wanted a wedding in nature. We fell in love with Aspen in the summer time a few years back and wanted to make it a yearly destination for our family. Aspen is also where we got engaged in March of 2020 and thought it was the perfect place to tie the knot! We wanted to have our immediate family there with us so we found a perfect ranch (Patak Ranch) in the mountains that was big enough for the crew to join. We wanted to create the most magical week for everyone and make sure they felt the love that we feel in Aspen too. So we planned a week of fun adventures, had cocktails by the fire, jumped in the pool and did a sound bowl healing meditation in the garden the morning of our wedding. For wedding day, the idea was that we had the ceremony and followed by a grand dinner party! We envisioned neutral colors that only added to the spectacular scenery that surrounded us. We chose a wild flower theme and went with greens and whites that had a splash of pastel oranges and pinks. The table settings were green and clear with a touch of gold and handmade paper menu’s that were custom made for our special day. Our dinner was catered by one of Aspen’s best chef’s and his team on site. We set up a spectacular long table, lined with wild flowers, and ate the most delicious food under a sky full of stars while listening to the sweet voice of a vocalist/guitarist. Dinner was followed by desert, dancing and cocktails by the fire pit. FUN FACT! The groom is so handy and we couldn’t find the perfect archway for wedding day, so he built it by hand!

To honor the brides Liberian culture, we used the West African cloths (lapa’s) in our reception. As we arrived to the reception area, our family surrounded us (as newlyweds) and placed several feet of lapa cloth on the ground for us to walk over together. In original Liberian tradition, it was used a warm welcome home to the village after marriage, and a way to show gratitude for the union.

A Blend of East And West Cultures in Sunny Los Angeles

This beautiful wedding at the Bel Air Bay Club is the perfect blending of cultures.  Done in a palette of peach and green, the couple worked with Somni Events to plan the perfect East meets West celebration- California style.  Whimsical blooms by Lily Roden Floral Studio are endlessly romantic, and every joyous moment and well thought out detail is artfully captured in imagery by Katie Jackson Photography. Enjoy all the pretty inside the full gallery.

From the bride… My husband and I met in medical school, and it was an instant love story. We became friends on a long drive to a group camping trip in Sequoia, and after 4 hours of amazing conversation, we knew that we had found someone special. We knew that we wanted to apply to residency together and get married before we graduated medical school. We were so fortunate to both end up at UCLA for residency, so our wedding was not only a celebration of our love, but a celebration of our graduation, our careers, and the life that we would be able to build together! Since Los Angeles is home for us, we wanted an outdoor venue in Los Angeles that overlooked the ocean, to showcase the most beautiful elements of Southern California. We went to a few places, but when we saw the Bel-Air Bay Club, we knew we had found the perfect venue. My husband is Taiwanese and I am Chinese, but we both were raised in the US. We wanted a western wedding, but we felt that it was important to us to infuse elements of our eastern Asian cultures. I also knew that I wanted a more modern peach and green color palette for our spring wedding, rather than the traditional red. We had to get creative in looking for ways to incorporate those cultural elements into this non-traditional color palette. We specifically looked for a Taiwanese wedding planner who could help us achieve this vision, and Michelle from Somni Events not only had an incredible eye for design, but also was able to speak Mandarin with our family! Our photographer Katie Jackson Photography was also so incredible to work with – we were really comfortable with her from our engagement shoot, and she was able to beautifully capture the light, airy springtime aesthetic I wanted. She also made sure to make time for a separate photoshoot for me in my qipao!

For our table numbers, we decided to name each table after a Chinese character. My dad actually helped me come up with a list of characters, which included words like love, happiness, fortune, and family. I asked my good friend to help us design our invitations, and she put together a beautiful rendition of the BABC patio, as well as a gorgeous peachy floral design that I used as the backdrop for the table characters. We thought long and hard about our guest favors, because we wanted those to be personal, long-lasting, and unique. We found an incredible vendor called TangPin Tea, who had a beautiful selection of tea cups, and we were able to personalize these by adding an inscription of our initials and our wedding date to the bottom of the cups. We chose teacups with a crane design, to symbolize longevity and peace, which we hope for our guests and our marriage together. Our guests loved our favors and we got many pictures from them using the tea cups afterward! One element where I did opt for the traditional red was in my qi pao. My husband’s older sisters both wore white dresses for their ceremonies and red qi paos for the reception, and this was a tradition that I wanted to continue. I found a vendor called East Meets Dress that made a gorgeous array of qi paos, and I picked one that was a little more modern. I loved the mandarin collar and the beautiful intricate floral detail on the bodice of the dress. It was affordable, and they make all their dresses to custom measurements! I chose to do my father-daughter dance in my qi pao, which was so special for me and my dad.

One of my favorite vendors was Eat Domi, who made our wedding cake. I had been obsessed with the desserts from Eat Domi for a long time, because they make gorgeous Asian inspired desserts. They’re famous for their profiteroles, which include black sesame, strawberry jasmine, and hojicha flavors. We decided to a chocolate cake with hojicha (roasted tea) ganache, paired with black sesame and strawberry jasmine profiteroles. I can’t even express how incredible these were, and our guests raved about our dessert. We completed the dessert table with a large gold double happiness sign, which made for a gorgeous background for the cake. The double happiness symbol is so important in Chinese/Taiwanese celebrations, and we knew that we had to incorporate it somehow! My husband and I identify strongly with the Asian American experience, and we wanted to showcase that blend of cultures. I wanted our venue and design to embody Los Angeles and California, as this is where we consider home. I think that came through in the Bel Air Bay Club ocean view and the spring-time peachy green palette. I also wanted it to capture symbols from Chinese/Taiwanese culture, such as the table characters and our crane teacups, and show off the amazing array of Asian dessert flavors that exist beyond matcha! My husband and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day! For future brides of looking to blend different ethnicities and backgrounds, you should do whatever feels most true to you! Your wedding can be as traditional or modern as you want, and with the array of products available online, it’s easier than ever to blend the two. However, it’s important to set out with a distinct vision so you don’t get lost in the details and endless options, and it’s always helpful to have a wedding planner and designer who has experience with cultural weddings.

Cliff House Wedding in Maui at Montage Kapalua Bay

Today’s Cliff House wedding at Montage Kapalua Bay is your perfect blueprint for an intimate, tropical fête. Designs by Hemingway brought the entire event to life with suspended installations lush with bouganvillea, shower tree, orchids & accents of roses. The couple opted for creams and soft yellow tones instead of the typical tropic-inspired palette. Wedding Scenes Naoko had the day going off without a hitch, while Sara Olivia was behind the lense capturing every last detail at the full gallery!

From Film Photographer Sara Olivia… Nothing says intimate wedding like a private cliff house overlooking Maui’s most beautiful coastline. This wedding will inspire you with delightful buttercream details, from a pop cycle refreshment bar to local shower tree flowers in season just for the occasion. After a joy filled ceremony with closest family and friends, these two lovers basked in a Hawaiian sunset that’s the stuff of dreams.

From designer/stylist Debbie Hemingway at Designs by Hemingway… I fell in love with this venue the first time I walked down to the cliffside to this charming historical house! Styling a wedding here was a dream come true for me so when Christopher & Mariko booked the property at the Montage Kapalua Bay for their intimate Maui wedding, I started styling the florals for this unique venue.

I designed a hanging floral installation over their long dining table . The suspended floral from the ceiling was a lush dripping garden of bouganvillea, shower tree, orchids & accents of roses spilling over top of rattan lanterns. We kept the design on the table top simple with candles, ceramic matte hand made vessels with dill, ranunculus, & accents of locally grown shower tree blooms in soft yellows, cremes and white color palette.

We curated the ocean front ceremony to blend with the couple’s Cliffhouse wedding reception floral scape with a blooming garden aisle of yellow dill, white Shasta daisies, and Queen Anne’s lace meandering through natural seating for their guests.

A Celebrity Stylist’s Whimsical & Romantic California Wedding

When a celebrity stylist gets married you know you’re in for endless inspiration.  Our bride worked with Details Details to bring her whimsical wedding wishlist to life, and Eucharis Studio filled the fantastic day with wildly romantic florals.  Jana Williams Photography was there to artfully capture every carefully curated detail in her elegant imagery, see the full gallery for a closer look.

From the bride… We met the old fashion way, in a bar in New York City at 4am. He told me I was beautiful, and I told him I liked his long hair. He was traveling for work and I was there for fashion week. We happened to live 5 blocks away from each other in Los Angeles. We were dating for 5 years before he proposed. However, we were engaged in December 2019. A much longer engagement than we had anticipated.

There is nothing I love more than pajamas and in a close second I love matching with the people closest to me. A few weeks before Christmas I was supposed to go out to dinner with friends, but they canceled. I have to say, I was hot on Colt’s trail about proposing. It felt suspicious my friends had canceled and conveniently  my hair and makeup was done. Anyway, Colt asked if I wanted to open an early Christmas present, and of course I said yes. It was matching pajamas for Colt and I which is always exciting. He went into our bedroom to change and we have two dogs. They both proceed to come out of the bedroom in the same print pajamas. In my head it all clicked, I was like omg it is happening. Before he got out here I felt both of their little bodies thinking they were wearing the engagement ring, they certainly were not. I thought to myself, wow! What a missed opportunity. We turn the TV on and start looking for a movie for 10 minutes. Colt finally asks me to check one of the dogs pajamas because it seemed too tight, which it clearly wasn’t. I flipped him over to check and on the chest of his pajamas it said “Will you marry me” Colt then proceeded to pull out the box and it was all happening. Then he said I needed to put on a blind fold and we were going to a second location and to not change out of our pajamas. We ended up at one of my friend’s houses and there was a surprise party with our family and friends. Truly, one of the best nights ever.

We knew we wanted somewhere that was close to LA and had a hotel attached. That way it was like adult summer camp, the wedding weekend running into all of the people you love most. We only looked at Calamigos Ranch, once we saw that big tree with hanging lights, it was on. The venue is beyond whimsical which really lends itself to my overall aesthetic.

The aesthetic was whimsical, romantic, and fun with pops of color throughout.  It really was all about the details. I knew I had to have black and white check dance floor, at each table we had golden animals that were hidden throughout the table with the tons of candles. Mixed with colored glass vintage dishware which every single piece was different.  The search for “THE DRESS” was a unique one because I did not want to wear all white, but I wanted to still look like a bride. Monique Lhuillier has always had my heart, so going in to try on dresses was a surreal experience, and big love to Mary from Monique who made this so seamless for myself and my mother! I hate to say it, well maybe I love it but my vision from being 5 to 32 did not waiver. I always knew I wanted a dress so big that it would stand on its own with a traditional corset top. This was a hard ask seeing as this would typically fall under a traditional bridal dress. I fell in love with the pattern on Jardin dress but still felt like I was going to miss out on my tulle moment. Funny enough, I committed to my veil prior to picking out the gown, I loved the hand embroidery of the similar print on the Jardin Dress; it was everything I was looking for. On my second fitting with the ever so patient Mary, with a ray of shining light on it I see the dress, The Westwood. However, It has red, blue, pink, and black floral beading on it. I knew this was my silhouette and was told we could make it custom  with the same embroidery from veil but in a smaller scale on the dress. The dress came in a few months later shockingly white with these gorgeous hand embroidered pieces to place all over the dress. Over the course of 3 fittings, multiple opinions, we perfectly hand placed every single piece you see on the dress. We created dimension by going on different layers throughout the dress. I couldn’t have been more happy with how this dress turned out. There was so much love and thoughtfulness poured into this dress. It is something I will cherish forever.

Given the pandemic and all the date changes I found myself waiting for each new collection at Galia Lahav  for my reception dress. I knew this would always be my party. I ended up choosing the Mel gown which embodied pure romance. I knew it was my dress from the moment I laid eyes on it. Funny enough, the sample was not even in stores yet and I ordered it based on the photos. Thankfully, I got the dress and it was even more gorgeous in person. I knew I wanted my after party dress to be romantic with a touch of sexy. The skirt was sheer with a bodysuit underneath to give it a slightly more revealing look. The off the shoulder puff sleeves make any girl feel like a princess, especially on your wedding day.  I am a huge fan of vintage and estate pieces. My engagement ring is from Victor Barbone Jewelry and is from the 1930’s with a gorgeous old mine cut diamond surrounded by emeralds. My wedding gift from Colt was a gorgeous estate ring from the 1950’s with these insane baguettes that we got at Platt Boutique. Given how sparkly my fingers already were, I opted for a classic gold band as my wedding band which is inscribed with a note and our wedding date. Being a stylist picking jewelry is always the icing on the cake, thankfully my mother has an incredible collection of jewelry as did both of my Grandmothers. I knew I wanted something classic and elegant in my ears that had just enough sparkle without being distracting, so I wore her big pearl and diamond wreath earrings which were perfect. I also wore a piece of jewelry from both of my grandmothers, who are no longer with us which was really important to me to have them represented and with me on my wedding day. I had a vintage diamond watch and vintage diamond cuff which completed the look.  I really just trusted my team for the day to execute whatever vision they had for this gown while still looking like myself.  No one does a blowout like Dave Stanwell, for years I watched him create gorgeous hair on my clients that I knew I didn’t need to tell him a thing. The only brief I had to give him was that I wanted to add length, which length is what we had. He is such a visionary that seeing the dress he just came up with the look. Which was a gorgeous blow out with a bit of a bend. He tucked the hair behind both ears and we were done.  The same goes for Alexis Oakley I said I just wanted to look like an elevated version of myself. We stuck to peachy bronze tones which turned out gorgeous. Let me tell you my hair and makeup was intact through the next morning. I am beyond thankful for these two on my wedding day.

I always knew I wanted something non traditional for the ceremony. Colt entered to “Bitter Sweet Symphony” by The Verve. I walked down the aisle with my Dad to “Sussudio” by Phil Collins. I wanted to start the vibe of the wedding off strong and I knew Phil would do the job as it was the soundtrack to my childhood. We did not have any of our bridal party walk down the aisle, but we had all of our nieces and nephews grace the aisle with their presence. My 3 month old niece was pushed down the aisle in a vintage 1950’s bunny stroller that I found on charish. It was darling! My incredible friend and healer Iris Tanz was our officiant, we knew we wanted it quick, sweet, and very us. Iris did an incredible job at really tailoring the ceremony to what we wanted. We really wanted to incorporate something we would be able to keep forever and show our kids that’s when Iris came up with us doing a “Handfasting” which is is an ancient Celtic ritual in which the hands are tied together to symbolize the binding of two lives. We have a gorgeous rope that we are currently having framed in an acrylic box that we will hang in our house.

The guests found their seats by walking up to a wall covered in a Monique Lhuillier  printed Duvet (that matched the hand embroidery I had added to my dress ) to find Maraca’s with their names on them to direct them to their seats. Again, I knew we wanted something non traditional and to maximize the dancing. We had an incredible 12 piece band, West Coast Music – Midnight Special. When Colt and I walked in we had them play a classic, “Everybody” Backstreet Boys to which we invited everyone up to dance for about 30 minutes before any food was served. It was beyond fun and really kept the energy up. We served a grilled little gem caesar salad, Yuzu Seabass or Filet, with a late night treat of happy meals that included original beanie baby toys from the 90’s. Our wedding cake was 5 layers and piped with buttercream, I always admired my parents’ wedding cake growing up, so we recreated it!

Colt’s Best Friend flew in to surprise him from Australia and gave his best man speech. My two older brothers are my best friends, so they did the honors too.  I loved sitting at our table looking around and being surrounded by the people we loved most, it is such a special moment that is rarely replicated. I loved walking in to see our vision being executed perfectly. But overall I think the dancing between courses with the live band really kept the momentum up and it truly felt like a big party!

Beautiful Bold Burst Of Color California Wedding

This bold and beautiful wedding is overflowing with fun.  Done in a burst of vivid blue and orange Lally Events planned and designed a day that spoke to the couple’s heritage and unique love story.  Florals by Revel Floral are a feast for the eyes, and imagery by the oh-so-talented Carlie Statsky is sure to stand the test of time.  See it all inside the full gallery.

From the bride… Our day was 10 years in the making, and was a beautiful celebration of our love. As we thought about how we wanted our wedding to look and feel, we knew it had to be an illustration of who are as a couple and as individuals. From my dress (which was a nod to my Israeli heritage), to the pins of the number 33 the groomsmen wore in honor of Patrick’s late aunt: it all felt uniquely us.

It included elements that tied to our Mexican roots, like the mariachi band that played while the guests arrived and the agua frescas we served following the ceremony. For the ceremony, we wrote our own vows and included our family in the rituals of the ceremony. The chuppah was placed on a small dock that was placed on the edge of the water. I walked down the aisle to “Sabor a Mi” by Luis Miguel, a song that my Oma and Opa (grandparents) would play for me. Our vows took the form of a letter that we read to one another.

We danced the night away, closing the night with a collection of our favorite dance music from the 10 years we’ve been together. Each song was curated by Patrick, marking different milestones in our relationship. We showcased a fun blend of Latin dance songs with our favorite electronic songs all under the twinkling lights over the dance floor. Everyone partied extra hard to stay warm, and brought the energy. It was the day of our dreams.

A Woodland Fairytale Wedding at Nestldown Designed by the Bride Herself!

Happy Halloween, witches and warlocks 🎃 Today we’re sharing a hauntingly creative wedding that’s sure to surprise at every turn! A lover of all things whimsical and out-of-the-box, the bride knew she wanted to do something unexpected when it came to her wedding design. After falling in love with Nestldown, the couple landed on a “woodland fairytale” wedding theme. Let’s just say Lord of The Rings fanatics are about to be obsessed – we’re talking bridesmaids dressed as elves, the officiant dressed as Gandalf, cocktails with a side of treasure hunting, an enchanting candlelit reception, and all sorts of magical treats along the way! We love a bride who has a vision and isn’t afraid to run with it. To see all the epic moments from their day, the full gallery by Stella Yang Photography awaits!

From the Bride… “Yifei, Before you, I never truly believed in ‘one true love.’ But I was so lucky to meet you at the age of 18 and marry you at the age of 28. Looking back, the most romantic thing I can think of is never the beautiful roses or precious gifts. But, still, your everlasting support and companionship.” – I said to my husband at the wedding ceremony.

My husband and I met and fell in love with each other in undergrad school in China. After graduating, we came to the United States together for grad school and finally settled in the San Francisco Bay Area. Although we had to deal with a long-distance relationship for over four years, our relationship has always been stable.

A comedian, Mike Vecchione, said, “The marriages (relationships) that last are a combination of two types of people: One person who is boring, another who is crazy.” We loved this joke and thought this was precisely the description of us! I must be the crazy one. My mind is always filled with exciting and whimsical ideas. I would be super excited about every design opportunity, and my wedding is definitely on the top list. So as you can imagine, I was the one that brought this fantastic idea of “holding a fairy wedding,” and my “boring” husband had “no objection.”

The Venue – Nestldown

Nestldown in our mind is “a wonderland hidden in the forest .” The venue was quite spacious and broad, with a solemn and stately redwood forest as the ceremony area, a lawn next to a Koi pond as the banquet area, a lane entangled by vines as the cocktail area, and a wooden house with a crystal chandelier as the dancing area.

What fascinated us was the magical garden in a medieval style. The wooden house, the sand sculptures of dragons and castles, the vintage chess boards, and the fairy lights around the trees all aligned perfectly with what we had in mind for a woodland fairy wedding. We immediately knew that this would be the place for our celebration after the first visit.

The Event Design

With no professional help, I planned and designed the wedding all by myself as a bride. I had a clear vision of the wedding – a woodland fairy-themed celebration with a combination of elegant and rustic touches. The idea is based on a fairytale I pictured in my head – a royal wedding for a princess elf who lives in the woods. To achieve this, I had the couple dressed as prince and princess, bridesmaids dressed as elves, the officiant dressed as a magician, and I also invited the guests to dress like woodland creatures.

The Floral Design

I imagined that the flower decorations in my wedding would be elegant, colorful, yet wild, and whimsical. All kinds of flowers would be scattered around mosses, creating a scene where woodland elves live. With this unique vision, I met Anna, a very talented floral designer. The floral she designed for me is just as beautiful as I pictured.

In Anna’s words – “The floral design and color inspiration comes from Alice in Wonderland fairytale’s wedding theme. Along with the magical redwood forest background, we incorporate contrast colors – vintage red, copper, peach, and almond paired with light blue, steel blue, and violet, to make each color pop. Various wildflowers, and greeneries with moss-covered centerpieces, paired with vintage candles, bring harmony to the forest background and create this magical fairytale atmosphere. For the flower selection, we chose garden roses, orchids, hydrangea, calla lily, and peony and tropical greeneries to give everyone a whimsical, romantic feeling.”

The Wedding Gown

I have been looking for a unique wedding dress, which must be studded with pearls and crystals without making people feel it is too tacky or luxurious. Also, that very dress must be elegant and vintage while maintaining a touch of cuteness and agility, which would make me feel like an elf and a princess at the same time. It took me a year to visit those bridal shops along the west coast, including regular dress rental shops and high-end customization brands. It was not until I randomly saw the picture online for this wedding gown that I decided that it would fulfill all my imagination.

The wedding dress is breathtakingly beautiful. It is in ivory color, which sets a great vintage tone. The laces on the shoulder girdles are just like twinkling wings. Thousands of shining crystals constitute the elegant patterns on the chest and extend to the long tails on the back. It is such a great combination of elegance and cuteness.

Magician and Elves

My lovely bridesmaids are dressed in the costume of elves. I tried quite a few dresses of different styles and finally set my heart on a single-shoulder emerald dress with long silk ribbons on the back, which, as I saw it, made me think of a retro-styled woodland elf immediately. As for their headwear, I chose emeralds entwined on vines that matched the color of their dresses and added to the overall forestry feel. With the elf ears, they all look like real elves coming from the woods!

To match the theme of the wedding ceremony, I prepared the Gandalf costume and wand for my wedding officiant. So he could deliver his “magical blessing” to us that day.

The Bride Entrance of the Ceremony

What particularly attracted me to Nestledown was the long and twisted steps to the ceremony area. Those rustic steps traversed across the redwoods from the high end. Walking down from the top of the steps, you could overlook the entire ceremony area, hear the beats of the music and smell the aroma of soil and vegetation. It is such a long walk that it could help you prepare before the big moment. I chose the orchestral version of Merry-go-round of Life as the background music for my entrance. It came from Howl’s Moving Castle, my favorite animation, which never fails to make my eyes fill with tears.

The Cocktail Hour Activity – Treasure Hunting

When the ceremony ended, there was a special cocktail reception, for which I designed a game called “Hunting for the Golden Feather.” Every guest was given a piece of old craft paper printed with a treasure map (I made a hand-drawn fantasy map for Nestldown). 5 places of treasures are marked on the map. Guests could follow the map to find the golden feathers. Those who found all the treasure would be rewarded with a special gift.

The Reception by Koi Pond

The evening party was held on the lawn near the koi pond. The guests could find wooden boards engraved with their names on vintage oak tables decorated with flowers and mosses.

I switched to a princess-styled off-the-shoulder blue dress when we entered for dinner. It is lighter than my wedding gown, so I can sit down and enjoy my dinner.

The food from Wylder space is terrific and tasty. My favorite one is the salad they brought rainbow beet napoleon layered with goat cheese, drizzled in the balsamic reduction sauce, and garnished with arugula microgreens. It brings a feeling of dining in the woods.

The Wedding Cake

After dinner, we moved on to the sweetest session of that day, cutting our wedding cake, which Trizia designed. The two-layer cake featured a fresh and elegant taste of earl gray tea. On top of the ivory cream surface were mosses, butterflies, and flowers made of sweets, creating an intoxicating atmosphere of forests and fairy tales while bringing the highlight for the ceremony.

The First Dance

The first dance was the most exciting session of the ceremony. We chose La Valse De L’Amour, the Waltz to which Cinderella and the prince danced when they first met. Neither of us knew anything about dancing, so it took us nearly three months to learn it. Every night after returning home from work, we watched the video and practiced once and once again. Constant discussions and explorations granted us tiny progress bit by bit. What an unforgettable memory!

The Grand Exit

For the grand exit, We prepared fairy-lights-decorated transparent balloons for each guest. Then, surrounded by lights and crowds, my husband and I walked onto a vintage car and bid farewell to my guests, bringing the wedding we had planned and expected for a year to a beautiful end.

These Crystal Pieces From Waterford Are Absolute Registry Musts

These days, people are getting married later in life, and (don’t let your grandma read this) most couples live together way before saying, “I do”. So, it makes sense that registries are changing with the times. It used to be that you registered for what you needed for your new life as a married couple, but now, since you’ve already been adulting for a while, you get to register for what you want (lucky you!). But with so much on your plate it can be hard to know exactly what you want so we’re here to help. There’s one thing that should be on every couple’s registry–crystal. And when it comes to crystal, it doesn’t get better than Waterford.

Why Crystal?

What makes Waterford crystal a registry must? Well, first of all, it’s gorgeous. But the most important reason is that it’s an investment–quality crystal like Waterford will last you forever! Think of it as investing in a designer piece instead of disposable fast fashion. In a world where we are leaning into sustainability, the key is investing in quality pieces that can withstand the test of time, be it clothing, home furnishings, tableware, or even decor. And what better way to lock down some staple pieces than to put them on your wedding registry? Fact: everyone loves giving crystal and everyone loves getting crystal. It’s a win-win!

What To Register For

When you think Waterford crystal, the first thing to come to mind is probably champagne flutes or wine glasses, but there are so many other ways to use Waterford crystal–and not just in the kitchen. Here are some of our favorite ways to use crystal throughout your home…

Kitchen

Let’s start with the obvious, the kitchen. From glasses to decanters there is no shortage of ways to use Waterford crystal in your kitchen. And while it may feel like you should only break it out for special occasions because it’s so pretty, that’s simply not true. First of all, crystal is stronger than glass, so crystal glasses are actually less likely to break. Also, life is short so why not live every moment beautifully? Break out your crystal champagne flutes for brunch with your besties and serve your favorite go-to wine out of a crystal decanter into matching stemless crystal wine glasses. Give your store-bought cake a glow-up by popping it onto a crystal cake plate for every birthday. And last, but not least, every counter needs a Waterford crystal fruit bowl, even if you fill it with your favorite non-fruit munchies (no judgment here).

Bathroom

We spend so much of our time in the bathroom getting ready, so why not level up your bathroom decor game with some beautiful yet functional pieces? Before you start your skincare routine, pop your rings onto a crystal ring dish for safekeeping. Then, brushing your teeth will never be the same after you pour yourself a glass of purified water from your crystal pitcher into a matching crystal tumbler. It’s the small things that make all the difference and if those pretty little items boost your serotonin even a little bit before you head off to work, then they have done their job.

Dining Room

You don’t need a physical room anymore to call it a dining room, this is just wherever you eat your meals, be it an eat-in kitchen or a bartop table. And how you decorate said table is the ultimate sign of adulting. Ditch the salt and pepper shakers you’ve had since college and invest in a beautiful Waterford crystal set. And think of how impressed your friends will be after they crash at your place and wake up to your favorite go-to hangover cure and a giant cup of coffee served with a stunning Waterford crystal cream and sugar set. So chic, so grown.

Living Room

When it comes to crystal pieces, the living room is all about entertaining and decor. Every living room needs a Waterford crystal vase (or two) for a fresh flower arrangement (and yes, babe, get yourself the flowers even if you’re not entertaining). A tall vase is great for on a mantle and a low vase looks perfect on a side or coffee table. Now it’s time to stock the bar cart. You’ll need an ice bucket, cocktail shaker, whiskey glasses, and a few decanters for your favorite liquors.

They chose tones to accent the colors of the beautiful new venue in town. Shelby chose the bistro chairs to go along with the whimsical garden theme.

The candles in the reception hall stayed on all night to create an intimate party where they shared wine and ate dinner together at the long communal tables.
