Romantic, Sun-Filled Wedding At Dos Pueblos Ranch

We feature a fair share of weddings at Dos Pueblos Ranch, each one just as stunning as the last. But this one, folks, is a family affair. The bride’s family owns the property, and together with the help of Lauren Kendle Events and lots and DIY details, they put on one show stopper of a wedding. So even if you can’t feel the California sun, Whitney Turner Photography captured a whole gallery to bask in. Enjoy!

From the Bride… Getting married on my family’s ranch (Dos Pueblos Ranch), where we live and my husband Teddy works, has been a dream since I grew up there as a little girl. And what made our wedding day even more special was the fact that it was such a group effort and DIY event with the help of our amazing friends, family and the coordinator Kendle, from Lauren Kendle Events. She was a true life saver! I feel so grateful that everyone was such a huge part of our day. Right from the early stages of planning, we knew we wanted to make sure that it wasn’t just a wedding, but a day that really represented us as a couple, and one that celebrated the ranch that I grew up on. Truly every detail and every vendor we chose had a connection with us. Our great friend and unbelievable artist, Katie Kramer, designed our wedding invitations with hand painted details of avocados and palm trees to represent the ranch. Our photographer Whitney turner, a very talented wedding photographer, was an easy choice, not just because she is our friend but also because we knew she would make us feel comfortable. Upon a recommendation from a friend, Nico from NLC productions did our flowers, and I knew he would be great the second I met him! He really blew it out of the park and worked with me on incorporating all those little “ranch style” details I wanted. Many of the details came from things we found on the ranch, such as the hawk and owl feathers used for my bouquet and the guys’ boutonnieres, the lavender, and the abalone shells that served as place cards. My brother-in-law built an insane driftwood arch that Nico helped adorn with hanging orchids…so dreamy. A jewelry designer from Santa Barbara, Marit Rae, who is a also a friend, made incredible crystal necklaces for the bridesmaids and matching crystal bracelets for my mother, mother-in-law, and flower girl.   During the ceremony, my cousin Max played a couple of Allman Brothers songs on his acoustic guitar, which was another important detail for us because my husband is big into music. The dance floor was hopping because of music from the band,  “The Rawhides”, who were a huge hit, as well as music from our friend Josh Hartley, who DJ’ed the cocktail hour and provided dinner music. Josh was another easy choice since he understood our taste so well. Another easy choice was choosing Country Catering in Goleta. We had a menu of tri-tip, chicken, salad, and veggies, which is our food of choice when friends come over for a BBQ at our house. The whole venue was incredible, largely because of Bella Vista Lighting. They completely transformed the beach, making it look so beautiful and romantic with lighting over the ocean so the waves could be seen at night. In addition, a suspended chandelier hung between two palm trees and was beautiful. Apart from the vendors, we also did a lot of things ourselves. Teddy built a reclaimed wood bar from wood on the ranch, and an awesome tree stump cake stand. I made a giant driftwood heart that turned out to be a great photo op for guests. I strung an abalone shelled garland for the cocktail hour and hand painted signs to direct the guest traffic on the ranch from ceremony to reception. One of my favorite parts were the stamped blankets with the crest from our wedding invitation, which was an awesome idea from a friend. We feel so lucky that we were able to pull off such an incredible day. The ranch is such a special place to us, making it easy and fun to create the wedding we dreamed of, but we really couldn’t have done it without the help of our family and friends.

From Melissa Montgomery Photography… Norbert and Melissa’s wedding was a mix of vintage elegance draped in colors of purples and greys. The venue was nothing short of spectacular meeting their classy theme all the way that was held at the Shaughnessy Restaurant in Van Dusen Gardens. With a fun wedding party, heartfelt speeches, a slideshow with not a dry eye in the house (including me!) and a bride and groom I felt like I’d known forever, this was one wedding I’ll never forget.

Captured beautifully by Shane Welch Photography every picture perfect moment of this couples’ beautiful Chicago day is waiting for you right here. And on top of it all, Loudbyte Cinematography made sure we could see it all play out on film. From The Bride…Jeff and I are city people with a love for all things Chicago. After we got engaged we knew we wanted a wedding in our favorite city. Our search of venues evolved into finding a spot that would depict our passion for the city and fit with our modern vision.

I would describe our wedding style as modern traditional. While we didn’t have a “head table”, a bridal party entrance, or bouquet toss, and sent electronic save the dates, we still wanted to have our ceremony at a catholic church.

The ceremony took place at St. James Chapel, part of Holy Name Cathedral. It’s a 90 year old chapel in the middle of Rush Street and is rich with history, and more noticeably its beauty! Our ‘grand exit’ was complete with ribbon bells to preserve the grounds (ribbon bells from esty-LilyAmongThornsBride).

Post ceremony, the city theme was carried through our photo session. Our photographer, Shane Welch, with Shane Welch photography, knew we wanted a unique place that would allow for city views and chose a more remote beach suiting our style located at 31st street. It was rustic, chic, and had perfect views of the skyline and lake. It was very windy that day but it wouldn’t have been a true Chicago wedding without it!

We never thought we would have held our reception at a hotel, but when we saw the ballroom at the Wyndam Grand Chicago Riverfront hotel (formerly Hotel 71), we knew we had to have our reception there. The primary reason we chose this venue was for the panoramic 39th floor views overlooking Chicago landmarks such as, the Wrigley Building, John Hancock tower, and the Museum of Science and industry, to name a few. As an added bonus, the venue had some character; it was Bruce Wayne’s penthouse in the film The Dark Knight. The capacity of 130 guests made it the right size venue for us. We leveraged the beautiful city backdrop as our wedding ‘décor’ and enhanced it with floating candles and minimalistic floral designs from Stemline Creative.

A lot of credit for the day of details goes to many talented Etsy designers; Candycrush events for the sequin table cloths, Tangedesign, for the white sequin bride and groom Chivari chair covers, SimpleandStunning2 for the unique wedding programs, and Birdhouse stationary which designed the “city” vision I had for my wedding invites, which of course captured the city skyline. I was able to print and assemble at home to reduce the costs.

I also put my own creative touches on the wedding. Little details such as, designing and printing the place-cards and personalized water bottle labels (which I proudly taped to each water bottle), as well as, a Fuji film photo guest book station. Alliance Bakery also merged 3 cake design ideas I had in mind for a simple but modern cake which ended up tasting just as good as it looked! A lot of time was spent on some of the little details and the day of coordinators from One Fine Day events executed them better than I could have myself!

Additionally, I was also a beta tester for Appycouple, a wedding website and phone app that allowed us to e-mail our save the dates and have our guests rsvp online which saved us both time and money. Some guests were a little slow to catch on, but it was useful for us to track the responses and number of invites sent. The app also included all of the wedding details including integrated maps & directions for convenience.

All and all, it was one spectacular day and I can honestly say if I had the chance to do it again, I wouldn’t change a thing about my wedding! 5 months after the wedding I got to virtually re-live it all over again with a beautiful film that Loudbyte Cinematography put together for me. It was truly a day we will cherish forever and I’m so happy I have beautiful film and photos to remember it by!

Multicultural Pennsylvania Wedding at the John James Audobon Center

This beauty is two overly gorgeous wedding ceremonies packed into one oh-so-pretty post. Filled to the brim with meaningful tradition and gorgeous style, every image captured by Ashley Bartoletti is not only beautiful, but also filled with love – making this gallery a must see.

From Ashley Bartoletti Photography …Hannah and Sohil had a really special wedding that blended cultural elements with personal, unique traditions. The whole event was held at the John James Audobon Center on a perfect day in August. The couple planned two separate ceremonies with different attire for each. The first was a rich and colorful Hindu ceremony held under a pavilion on property, honoring that traditions of Sohil’s family. After an wardrobe change into a classic lace gown and gray suit, a second civil ceremony was held under a beautiful old tree. Personal touches included sharing their own vows and planting a tree. It was important to Hannah, an environmental lawyer, that their wedding be eco-friendly. All the flowers were from a local, sustainable farm. The flowers for the ceremony were reused for the reception and we’re put together by the bridal party. Cocktail hour was held in a barn on property and then guests returned to the open air pavilion to enjoy dinner dance the night away.

Rustic Elegant Styled Shoot

Rustic elegance with a bohemian twist.  It sort of has a ring to it, don’t you think?  Now add in a dream team of vendors that know a thing or two about making the aforementioned come to life and, voila! – a Thursday of pure, unadulterated pretty.  It’s gorgeous stylings + florals from 1956blooms meets a world of lovely from Keepsake Films.  See all of the pretty in the full gallery and the sweet film below.

From Keepsake Films… When I film weddings in Texas, I tend to see a lot of the same thing over and over as far as rustic barn weddings go. My friend Kaylyn at 1956blooms and I wanted to break out of the norm and create a more bohemian styled shoot that was full of natural, rustic elements, but in a timeless, romantic style. We traveled to an amazing location called The Prairie (a bed and breakfast that renovated a farm with shabby chic furnishings) and created a beautiful shoot.

You’ll see our “rustic elegance” theme displayed in the vintage furnishings at the venue, the untamed bouquet (featuring hints of Pantone color of the year, Radiant Orchid), and the ethereal Reem Acra wedding dress. Melissa Harris at The Best Little Cake Shop in Texas crafted a beautiful ruffled cake that Kaylyn topped with fresh florals and an olive branch.

I shot both photos and a short film – the film is pretty dreamy with the golden light and dress in the wind! For the bride who is looking for a light-filled, scenic venue with a rustic but elegant vibe, The Prairie is a perfect place for a wedding.

From 1956bloomsKatherine Anne of Keepsake Films and I spent a weekend at The Prairie outside of Austin, TX. We ate Mexican food the entire time, laughed about our time as college roommates, and created something we love. Everything about The Prairie is so inspiring and I’d jump at the chance to go back. Until then, I’ll watch this film a few hundred times.

Elegant Peony Filled Wedding in Sardinia

Most destination weddings involve going far from home, but for this London couple, destination meant their home island of Sardinia. And who could blame them when home means rolling mountains, the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea, and beautiful peony-filled arrangements form Franci’s Flowers Wedding DesignEmanuele Teobaldelli captured every sweet smile and stunning detail perfectly. See more here!

From Franci’s Flowers Wedding DesignIt’s a great pleasure for me introduce this classy wedding which has held on a sunny summer day in the middle of June. Carlo and Marialuisa live in London and decide to celebrate their big day in Sardinia, where they are originally from. The beauty of Marina Beach was a stunning setting for these photos taken by the talented Emanuele Teobaldelli who perfectly captured mood of wedding. The smiles from the couple were contagious! The bride’s Jenny Packham bridal gown is timeless and fit amazingly with the elegance of groom’s tuxedo. Peonies are bride’s favorite flowers and her smooth gorgeous white and pink hand-tied bouquet added a touch of romanticism to the amazing vintage-inspired gown.

Charming DIY North Georgia Mountain Wedding

Charming is a darling word, but it doesn’t even come close to describing this beauty of a wedding captured by Jeff Roffman Photography. With sweet DIY details tucked in every corner and one adorable couple, this gallery is a whole new level of charming you simply shouldn’t miss. And while you are oohing and awwing over all the sweetness in this gallery, make sure to check out their film from Artworks Wedding Cinema below too…

From The Bride…We embraced the rustic, mountain environment by adding elegance and DIY charm to reflect our love story. Making our big day personal and unique was very important to us. Not only are we high school sweethearts, but John and I dated for 10 years (8 of them long distance) before we were able to make this day happen. Countless friends and family helped to get us down the aisle…and we wanted them to feel special too.

I surprised my mother and grandmother by taking my bridal portraits in the wedding gown they each wore down the aisle. We loved the nod to our Kentucky heritage with the commemorative Kentucky Derby glasses dating back to the 1970’s that we gifted to our guests. Instead of typical table numbers, we elected to have important dates and numbers tell a story on the tables. I’ll never forget the tears flowing when the violin started playing and I took my father’s arm. My favorite moment is still hearing the man I’d been with for 10 years tell me he remembered the first time he laid eyes on me, a detailed story he’d never shared with me before that day.

Modern Meets Classic Newport Wedding

You know what I love?  This bride.  A crazy cool fashionista who isn’t afraid to buck tradition and totally rock a stunning silver gown.  And not only does she have some killer fashion sense, she also happens to know how to throw one seriously amazing party.  One that celebrates her gorgeous Belle Mer I do’s with fab paper goods from Lauren Chism Fine Papers, lush florals from Green Lion Weddings and beautiful images from Snap! Photography.  See them all in the full gallery.

From The Bride… As part of a New Year’s Resolution, Peter and I promised to plan a trip together in early 2013. His choice was London and my first choice was Paris, so agreed to visit both cities. I’ve always dreamed of going to Paris, but little did I know this trip would be extra special. Moments before we left for the airport, while I was still frantically packing before heading out, Peter called from the other room. He started by saying he bought me something to take on the trip and before I knew it, he was down on one knee asking me to be his wife. Moments later we were off to London and Paris for what I know call “our engagement-moon”. Fast forward four months after our engagement when we finally started to seek out venues. We took our time, found our dream location and quickly secured a late winter wedding date.

Peter and I love Boston and I always thought we would get married in the city, where Peter is from and where we call home. We looked at a few venues and felt overwhelmed in the beginning so we stopped searching and took a break from wedding planning during the summer months. While chatting with girlfriends, it was suggested we look at Belle Mer, a modern seaside venue with beautiful views and a simple yet elegant setting. Upon arrival at Belle Mer we immediately knew this was our spot and worked quickly to secure a date and start the planning process.

While I never had a dream wedding, décor or inspiration in mind. I did find my dress prior to finding a venue and my dress really helped guide me towards a color palette. My dress, the venue and time of year influenced the neutral and soft palette. After meeting with Kim from Greenlion and describing our desire to have natural materials – wood, lots of candles, pale blush and white flowers our vision really started to come together. Overall, our goal was to have a modern, yet classic wedding.

We both love food and enjoy a good party, so immediately we knew that a cocktail style reception is the direction we wanted to go in. This type of reception lends itself to some flexibility with the room setup and tables, which allowed us to have fun with the table décor. With a mix of high and low tables we incorporated floral vignettes throughout and whitewashed manzinita branches with hanging votive candles to help add some depth, warmth and height to the space. We also had fun with the seating arrangement since we wanted to encourage our guests to “mix & mingle” and spend time on the dance floor. Our theme really involved into a simple and modern seaside cocktail party.

It was important to us that we get married in a Greek Orthodox church and deciding on the location was an easy decision. We incorporated his family and parents into the ceremony by using the candles and stephana they used for their wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony incorporating all of the Orthodox traditions.

The wedding reception was a direct reflection of our personalities and it was so fun to plan and incorporate elements that were important to each of us. Peter was laser focused on food and entertainment and I took on the overall design elements. Peter was able to get his 80’s dance party, which included a Karate Kid montage with a Peter Cetera’s song playing in the background and I had fun picking out all the flowers and table décor and bringing together the details with the help of Kim from Greenlion. Kim really took my vision and helped tie it all together with the flowers and she deserves all the credit.

Our wedding turned out perfectly and we are so fortunate to have worked with amazing vendors that helped make our dream wedding a reality. It was truly the perfect day and we couldn’t have been happier with how everything came together.

Coral Boca Grande Wedding

Have I told you lately that coral-splashed weddings own my heart? It’s true, they do. And when they come hand in hand with the cutest little flower girls, seashells and sand in your toes? I love them even more. Our friends at K and K Photography stood behind every pretty moment that sits in this sweet gallery and it’s all so, sooo lovely.

From the beautiful Bride… All the vendors we worked with were extremely helpful and did a fabulous job of helping us to plan an extraordinary event that our family and friends thoroughly enjoyed. Most importantly Mark and I had an incredibly special day that we will cherish the memories of for a lifetime.

Mark and I really wanted our children to be part of the ceremony so my daughter Tiffany was my maid of honor and his son Max was his best man. My son Zac also stood up for Mark and walked me down the aisle since my father passed away many years ago. Mark’s daughter Olivia and my Goddaughter Sydney also stood up for me. Neither Olivia nor Sydney had ever been flower girls when they were young so that is what they wanted to be in the wedding. This was perfect because we have two English Bulldogs, Bentley and Brutus, who are very much a part of our family so we made them ring bearers and had them walk down the aisle with the girls. I made their tuxes which was the perfect distraction during the wedding planning!

Springtime Wedding in Brooklyn

Spring might be a good nine months away, but the second I locked eyes with this Brooklyn Botanic Garden wedding I’ve been hoping and praying it’d show up a wee bit sooner. With trees in all their fully bloomed splendor, there’s never been a more perfect setting to swap vows, and Rebecca Yale Photography documented the day in gorgeous fashion. Have a peek right here!

From Rebecca Yale Photography Kelsey and Noah’s Spring wedding in the Brooklyn Botanical gardens was a true celebration of Spring and love! After a terrible winter in New York City we felt Spring would never come, but on the day of Kelsey and Noah’s wedding the skies cleared, the sun shined on the newly blossomed cherry blossoms and we were given a perfect Spring day. Kelsey and Noah were married under the shade of a beautiful tree in a meadow in the gardens and then celebrated with their friends and family in the Palm House at Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. The afternoon felt like a joyous garden party and they let the beauty of the gardens and the flowers take center stage, picking up the light pink of the cherry blossoms throughout the day in the details from the bride’s shoes to the groom’s tie.

Light poured in from the glass roof of the palm house giving the laser cut place cards and menus a beautiful dimensionality as it created shadows on the white table cloths. The guests were serenaded by a 3-piece band with oldies, each song hand chosen by Kelsey. Perfectly fitting the garden party motif, the bride and groom gave cans of seeds as a thank you to their guests before making a grand exit through a cascade of yellow and pink rose petals to a vintage yellow taxi.

It was so wonderful to capture genuine moments of love and joy between Kelsey and Noah. I knew they would be so much fun to photograph when we first met and she told me- “We both love the color green, spicy food, and, of course, each other.” Kelsey even had inscribed in Noah’s ring “I love you most” one of my favorite details of the day!

Perth Wedding at Little Creatures Brewery

Scrolling through Angga Permana Photo’s captures you’d never EVER guess every detail for this day came together in just three months. But beauty is a given when you have a beautiful BHLDN wedding dress, peonies-filled bouquets from Twigged Flowers By Tali, and of course, one huge smile across your face. Set it all up in an awesome venue like Little Creatures Brewery, and you have one pretty party. See it all here!

From the bride… I’m writing this from a remote island in East Indonesia in the middle of nowhere, miles away from my husband after being married for only five weeks. I’m due to come home today and thought this is the perfect opportunity to write this long overdue post. We only had three months to prep our wedding. We expected nothing and had prepared ourselves for the worst. The only thing we were sure of was that we wanted to be married and that was all that matterd. The most unforgettable moment on the day was when our Kombi wedding car broke down in the middle of the highway and all the bridesmaids and I arrived at the ceremony venue 45 minutes late. Surprisingly the whole scene did not break me at all. I was calm throughout and I knew deep in my heart that I will marry Patrick on this fine day and this was just a small bump on the road. I walked down the aisle to Jack Johnson’s Angel and I could still remember very dearly all the feelings I had when I walked my way to Patrick. Everyone and everything else was blurry. Patrick’s eyes and smiles were the only things I held on to. It was all very personal and emotional for me. We couldn’t have picked a better reception venue than Little Creatures Brewery as both of us are big fans of their beers. We also love the rustic romantic feeling that the place offers and for Patrick it was a definite long yes as soon as we were shown the way to the open tap bar. Thanks to Tali from Twigged flowers by Tali and Sarah from Heart Strings and Pretty Things who worked beyond their ways to create every single details that I had in mind into a such dreamy day. From my flower crown to each and every table centrepieces to the hanging jars, combined with our DIY items, all these details were put together with love. Every corner I looked somehow spoke of our true personalities. A little tip for all the bride-to-be: during prep period just try and do your best, keep the positive vibe running all the time, be grateful on every small achievement, and remain patient on every trials, in the end, you are marrying the love of your life and that’s what it should only be about.

From Kat Harris Photography… Summer is upon is, and to me that means late nights on patios with friends surrounded by twinkle lights, good wine, yummy food, and lots of laughter. As I recently moved to Brooklyn from LA I am learning there is quite a “Brooklyn Culture”. Brooklynites enjoy all things artisan. I’ve yet to meet a person in Brooklyn that was not a foodie. The Brooklynite is also passionate about local agriculture and American Made products.

For the Brooklyn Bride and groom there is no better place to experience the perfect mixture of a Brooklyn Artisan Wedding other than The Green Building. Local cuisine extraordinaire Loren of Naturally Delicious is a highly sought afterr caterer for the Artisan couple. A lot of her ingredients are locally grown, and all fresh!

Together we created the ultimate summer wedding for The Brooklyn Bride from: restored wooden tables to Brooklyn made vodka for moscow mules, to twinkle lights and exposed brick to a simple yet unique floral bouquet. The Brooklyn Bride is a foodie, she is a a bohemian at heart yet encapsulated by elegance and grace, she cares about craftsmanship, and the quality of her products, and where they are made. And there’s no better time to celebrate than under the warm blanket of a summer night on the East Coast filled with family, friends, good music, impeccable food, and of course twinkle lights!

Classic Vineyard Wedding with a Pop of Color

Loads of color isn’t for everyone but a little pop of hue is a universal language in the color department. It takes this classic white wedding and infuses it with a pretty citrus punch of blooms by Daisy Rose Floral Design and images of the day that have solidified our love affair with Em The Gem. Have a look here for more including polka dot dresses and a wedding gown that dreams are made of.

From The Bride…Brian and I both knew we wanted to get married in the San Francisco Bay Area, and after looking in the city and wine country, we knew that Viansa was the place. The setting there was just gorgeous and the staff, especially our coordinator Cortney, took care of everything perfectly. Brian grew up in Sonoma, so it meant a lot to us to have our wedding in his hometown, close to his family. Our ceremony was outside in the courtyard, and then we moved up to the terrace for cocktail hour, and finished with dinner and dancing in the tent. We loved bringing the bright colors of orange and yellow into our flowers, table settings, and other touches to add some whimsy to the wedding. We also added some personal touches to the ceremony, with our custom vows and a special yoga blessing at the end. We went with mini cupcakes and ice cream cones for dessert vs a traditional wedding cake, and my mom added a family recipe of lemon cookies to top it off.

Picture Perfect Tips for the Newly Engaged Bride with Invisalign®

Newly engaged? Get ready to show your pearly whites, my dears, because a bride will have over 300 photos taken in the time from “I will” to “I do!” So naturally, you’ll need to look your best. We’ve teamed up with Invisalign® and TV lifestyle expert, Justine Santaniello  — who’s tying the knot in November — to share some picture perfect pointers for you and your honey!

SMP: What is the best piece of advice you’ve received before your big day?

Justine: The best piece of advice I have received is to go with your gut and be as decisive as possible. As a bride you have a lot of decisions to make and for me in particular choosing a venue that’s a blank space makes for even more decisions. You have to trust yourself, you know what you like, you know what your aesthetic is, go with it! Consult your fiancée of course, maybe your mother or a bridesmaid but ultimately its up to you. The more decisive you are the easier things will be and you will notice everything gets done a lot faster when you aren’t wasting time going back and forth.

SMP: What is the look you’re going for on your big day?

Justine: The look I want to achieve for myself is very similar to the overall look I want for our wedding. Classic and romantic with a twist of modern. My dress is unlike any other wedding gown I have seen before, very detailed, fitted, textured, and a little sexy. I’m looking to have long flowy, loose curls with a natural yet dramatic look for with my makeup. Overall I want to feel confident and comfortable!

SMP: How did your experience with Invisalign help get you ready for your big day?

Justine: One of the most important things I could tell other brides is to take steps now to make sure you look and feel your best for your wedding day! For me, I wanted to start a skincare routine to get that glowing complexion, I wanted to look fit so I started a light workout routine and I wanted to have the perfect smile so I started Invisalign treatment! And now, my smile is one hundred times better than I even imagined it could be. Since I’ve been in treatment with my Manhattan-based orthodontist, Dr. Gail Schupak my teeth are perfectly straight and that space I have had forever – is gone! The process has helped me take my overall oral care more seriously. I now look at it as any other beauty routine!

SMP: What is the top tip that your bride friends have given you before you walk down the aisle?

Justine: I’m so lucky to have friends that have recently been married or are engaged as well, so they are my go-to’s for all questions and concerns. The piece of advice that sticks out the most is to really take in the moment while you walk down the aisle and to walk slowly! Make sure to memorize his face looking at you as much as possible, hold on tight to whoever is walking with you, and take in the fact that everyone in that room is there for you and to celebrate you!

Modern Masculine Birthday

We’ve featured many, many, manyyy feminine, glitzy, glam, over the top girly affairs. But what about the poor men in our lives? One peek at Pinterest and you’ll notice immediately that they tend to get left in the dust. But not if Bough&Annex is on the scene! Dominique threw together the most epic of all epic 30th birthday parties for her sweet husband, complete with a gallery filled with photos from Peter Delgado!

From Dominique… Planning a party for a guy can be pretty hard. If you scour the internet, few examples of tastefully done parties for men can be found. For my husband’s 30th birthday I wanted to plan an event that brought together some of his favorite things – clean, simple Scandinavian inspired design, good friends and great food. Our home was the perfect venue. As a couple, our design aesthetic is simple and clean – we prefer to let the sun do the decorating. The living room has floor to ceiling windows with a tree lined view. The wraparound deck was a great gathering place to enjoy the beautiful San Diego weather and sunset.

For the food, I contacted Chef Joshua Alkire – a premiere private chef in the San Diego area. I described my husband’s tastes and then told him to go for it. He sent me the menu weeks before and I didn’t change a thing. The menu was impeccable and all of the guests were blown away. Instead of a cake (John isn’t a big sweets fan) – we did a sugared scone with fresh peaches and mint infused creme fraiche – it was delicious and we all had to resist sneaking a bite while singing “Happy Birthday”.

Green Fresh Florals provided stunning arrangements for our piano and for the appetizer area. Each one was full of succulents and beautiful structured flowers – everything clean lines and modern.

One of my most favorite elements of the party were the menu cards that also did double duty as favors. Handcrafted by Peg and Awl, each one was made from reclaimed wood and vintage leather and included a chalk pencil. In my own simple handwriting, I wrote out each item from the menu. I loved being able to include personal elements throughout the party. I also hand wrote the place cards and tucked each one into a fresh cut succulent as the holder.

The flatware was from Crate and Barrel and the chargers DIY. They started out as black, but I wanted a concrete look so we sprayed them with a stone finish and then a gray color.

Vintage glass apothecary bud vases were filled with bright white flowers in the center of the table. My husband cut and stained the wood for the center piece and I added the succulents and candles. When the lights went down, it felt so intimate and warm.

We laughed and talked long into the night. Gathered together around a familiar table, it felt like the perfect way to celebrate 30 years. Simple moments often make the best ones.

Rustic Bohemian Gage Hotel Wedding

This boho Bride’s approach is spot on: You have to remember that there are NO rules when planning your wedding. Don’t feel forced to plan anything you aren’t into. Your wedding should be a reflection of you and your husband. Her wildly pretty fete planned by Beau Tied Events, is exactly that. It’s so them. And without actually knowing them, all it takes is one look at the gallery from Heather Curiel to know that their day? It reflected every bit of their love.

From the beautiful Bride… Getting married out in Marathon was a dream. It felt so good to be in the peaceful atmosphere of west Texas. The Gage Hotel was the perfect backdrop for our intimate wedding of 34 guests. All festivities were held at the Captain Shepherd’s house (owned by The Gage). Joe and I, along with our friends, occupied The Captain Shepherd’s house. I got ready there, we had the ceremony/dinner in the courtyard, and partied late into the night! It was so nice to stay put in one place. I never felt rushed or worried about what everyone was up to.

You have to remember that there are NO rules when planning your wedding. Don’t feel forced to plan anything you aren’t into. Your wedding should be a reflection of you and your husband. I loved that we had a small wedding! I felt like I really got to connect with my friends/family that made the journey. From going on a morning walk with my girlfriends to relaxing with champagne on the big porch balcony to laying in the middle of the road star gazing with guests… it was all so magical.

How to Discover Your Wedding Style

Hi bridal beauties, it’s Angela with Saffron Avenue here to bring you some tips on how to narrow down your wedding style. As you know there’s a wealth of inspiration at your fingertips these days – from blogs to magazines, and of course Pinterest. Being a new bride bombarded with inspiration can be a bit overwhelming, so I’m sharing how I was able to edit down, filter through the pretty and fall in love with my wedding style.

WRITE IT OUT First things first – write down a list of words that describe your style and who you are as couple. Think beyond just the wedding, think about how you dress, how you decorate, where you shop, and how others would describe you. Are you traditional, modern, boho, vintage, rustic, funky, adventurous, southern, etc? Not only that, but think about what makes you unique as a couple, like your engagement, hobbies, pets, etc., anything that play a part in your wedding design.

PICK A PALETTE | Now think of a few colors that you are drawn to and palettes that might represent some of the adjectives or words listed above. To help search for color combinations I recommend looking at Design Seeds, Creature Comforts and even through abstract art like Kristy Gammill. Anything that may help you narrow down your selection or give you palette ideas.

When choosing your palette make sure to keep it around 5-6 colors and around 2-3 focal colors. Introducing too many colors may cause confusion and inconsistency throughout. That doesn’t mean you can do various shades though, we all love ombre. Just make sure to pick colors that make sense and can be incorporated throughout the wedding.

PIN YOUR FAVES | There’s endless amounts of ideas and inspiration on Pinterest so I would actually recommend creating more than one Pinterest board. This will not only help you but will also benefit your wedding vendors. First, create a ‘Wedding Style’ board. This can include your color palettes, wedding style, bridesmaid dresses, flowers, fashion, jewelry, etc. This board is one to show your vendors so they can get a clear idea of what style you are going for, typically by just scrolling through they should get a sense of your style and palette.

Next, create a “Wedding Ideas” board. Since a lot of ideas found on Pinterest may not blend with your style or colors, it’s smart to separate it into a different board. For example, let’s say you are having a rustic outdoor wedding but you found a photo in a ballroom with an escort card that you loved. It could be confusing if you put it under your wedding style board since it clearly isn’t that rustic style, but it if’s in your Wedding Idea board you can pin it and put the description as to why you liked it.

BUILD A BOARD | If you are anything like me, you’ll want an inspiration board. I do this all the time for my branding clients and did it for my own wedding to share with my vendors and my wedding party. I took my color palette and my wedding style photos and popped them into a inspiration board. If you are wondering how to do this you can use the “Build a Board” here on Style Me Pretty, or if you are familiar with Photoshop or Illustrator you can create your own board too.

CREATE A BINDER | Once you narrow down your palette and style you can start pulling together an inspiration binder. I love having something I can carry around and share. So feel free to pick up some fabrics, paint chips, ribbons, and card stock that can be added to your binder as additional pieces to show or give to your planner, florist, invite designer, etc. With that you can start tearing pages from wedding magazines for more inspiration and even sketch out your ideas. Not only will this help the design process but it will also be a keepsake for years to come!

I hope all of these tips help you narrow down your wedding style and give you a great place to start with the design process. Make sure to have fun with it too!

Montreal Engagement Session at Macdougall Manor

We adore engagement sessions around these parts. And when they are as adorable as this one from Camille Marciano, well then we flat out love them. From the fun prop styling to the cute-as-can be couple themselves, this gallery is simply as sweet as they come, and you can soak it all up right here.

From The Bride…Andy and I met a few years back when we were both starting our first student summer job. At the beginning, there were shared glances and shy smiles. But then, Andy managed to steal my phone number and that is how it all started. After a few dates, ice creams, the fifth Harry Potter, the first movie Transformers and Andy handing me a rose from a bended knee, I became his girlfriend.

That summer turned out to be the most magical and carefree summer of our lives.

For our engagement photo session, I wanted to recreate this whimsical and youthful atmosphere of when we first met. Camille, our photographer, has made this possible by creating pictures that are simple, yet incredibly joyful, luminous and romantic.
