Marietta Georgia Wedding from Twin Hearts Photography

This darling bride makes me happy.  And once you read her sweet description of the day, you will most definitely agree.  Because even though the weather forecast was a solid 100% chance of rain (yes, 100%!), you would never have guessed it from her uber-bubbly, uber-smiley personality.  And let’s face it, rainy day weddings are the best, anyway… don’t you agree?  Twin Hearts Photography was on hand to capture every love-filled moment and it’s a gallery chock-full of sweet DIY details and a whole lot of pretty.  Join me there for every ounce of lovely.

From the Bride… Navy is my favorite color and one of my many inspirations for the day! Believe it or not, I had a difficult time finding pictures of weddings that incorporated navy without feeling too “nautical.” I wanted an outdoor wedding that brought preppy to the table with a little rustic flair. Many of the details were thought of over glasses of wine with friends and of course, my best wedding planner of all, my mom!

Wade and I got engaged May of 2012 and I couldn’t wait to begin planning! The reception venue is the home of my parents’ very best friends and that was the first thing checked off the list! Next, I wanted to find a dress, because I felt that my dress would influence many of my decisions moving forward. I found the dress at White Dress by the shore (a fabulous boutique in Clinton, Connecticut with the most beautiful location and friendliest staff to wait on you hand and foot!).

The bridesmaids’ dresses were next on the list and while I absolutely love them, the designer (Emma Graham) went out of business this Spring.

So many of the details were projects I worked on over the course of the year or things I borrowed from friends and family. My sister crafted all of the chalkboards and I worked on custom wine labels that I would stick on our many bottles of Chardonnay. Since we were married on Kentucky Derby Day, the flowers were arranged in Mint Julep cups that I collected from friends! I also borrowed the classic Southern blue and white china vases from our friends in Marietta! The Jack Daniels barrels came from a friend’s farm in Nashville. Wade and I graduated from the University of Georgia and he insisted on having UGA as his cake! My grandmother also found a beautiful brooch from her mom that I was so excited to use as a part of my bouquet! The spirit of family and love could be felt throughout the evening!

Keeping in Southern tradition, the food cannot be overlooked! Epting Events truly outdid themselves with short ribs, mashed potatoes and spinach gratin. They put together two small plate stations- one with four different types of salads and the other, a pork tenderloin slider with grits and green beans. Shrimp cocktail, orzo salad with asparagus, tomato and mozzarella… just delicious!

But most of all, I wanted my wedding to feel like a party. Not stuffy or “over planned.” When we received the 100% chance of rain, I just went with it! We bought lots of flip flops so everyone could dance and not ruin their shoes. I had my sister design the chalkboard reminding everyone that it’s 100% going to rain, so just have fun! We went from an outdoor wedding to a clear tent wedding and it was just amazing. You could see the pouring rain hitting the tent and with the lights, it was simply magical. It turned out to be quite a memorable event and everyone stayed until the last song was played by the band! Oh, and the cops were called three times because we were having so much fun!

Savannah Wedding from Morgan Gallo Events + Memories N More

We’ve swooned over a Savannah wedding a time or two on SMP, and for good reason – they are always show-stoppers. Maybe it’s the spanish moss, perhaps it’s the southern charm, but I happen to think it’s the people that are attracted to that beautiful city that truly make it special. People like the ones who fill the gorgeous images by Memories N More at this stunning soiree planned to perfection by the Bride and Morgan Gallo Events. It all makes for a gallery of images too pretty to miss, so make sure you catch them all here.

From the Bride… One of my favorite details from the wedding was our favors. My cousin hand-made soap that we wrapped and labeled. We also had our favorite coffee flown in from my hometown. I also loved what our calligrapher did– hand written escort cards on gold DIY doilys, a sign that read “Love is Brewing” for the coffee favor display, and custom signs of Savannah streets for table names.

Our favorite memory was after we left the reception. Following a sparkler exit, we decompressed in the back of a horse-drawn carriage that took us around downtown Savannah. The day had been unusually warm for December so it was a balmy night for a carriage ride. It was our first opportunity to be alone together all day, so we just leaned into each other, took in the surroundings, listened to hooves on the pavement and soaked the day in!

A little advice to future brides: Make sure you have a protein bar or a banana because at some point during the day, you’re going to need a quick reboot! And… Don’t sweat the small problems or details. All you really need for a successful wedding (and marriage!) is you and your fiancé(e).

Monroe, Georgia DIY Wedding from Holly L. Robbins Photography

When rustic chic details mix and mingle with sweet crafty goodness, amazing things happen.  Amazing things like DIY florals by the bride’s talented grandmother, mason jar filled tabletops and a downright awesome mac ‘n’ cheese bar.  And when all of those amazing things take place at the breathtaking Fair Weather Farms and are captured in beautiful images by Holly L. Robbins, even better.  Because that, my friends, is a combo that makes for one seriously gorgeous gallery.  Join me there for all of the pretty.

From the Bride… Jeff and I were engaged in February in Temple, Texas and were immediately planning details for our December 1st wedding. At the time we were planning to move back to my hometown in Georgia. We knew that we wanted a intimate wedding ceremony in Georgia that included lots of small family details. Thankfully my mother and sister started looking for venues and came across Fair Weather Farms in Monroe, Georgia. The farm just so happened to sit on land that my grandfather used to farm as a young boy and was exactly the cozy atmosphere we wanted!

Our wedding turned into a large DIY project really fast. The main things that I wanted throughout the wedding were cotton, family antiques, and cheese graters. My grandmother thought I was crazy when I said I wanted cotton and family brooches in the bouquets. All of the floral arrangements turned out beautifully because of her! My father made all of the signs and menus throughout the event and I wrote all of the sayings. My father also made our wedding box out of old wood that we put letters and a bottle of wedding wine to open on a future anniversary. The hammer we used for the box was from my grandfather. All of the cheese graters on the tables for the reception came from family members. It was plethora of family things!

The day of our Fair Weather Farms wedding we had warm weather, even in December. We ended up having our closest family and friends from all over totaling 120 guests… it was small and intimate! I think the most nerve-racking part of the day was our First Look. I gave Jeff a handkerchief that said “In you have I have the love of my life and my closest truest friend.” We were married in the evening with doors open to the house and have never felt more confident in vows! A funny detail of the wedding: I decided it would be better if we nailed the wedding box together, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do it! On the third nail it bent more than halfway over and the entire room laughed! Jeff finished the box after that. Our reception was a big party with amazing food, including a macaroni and cheese bar (my favorite!), fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs, s’mores station and more traditional Southern food.

We couldn’t be more blessed to have such amazing families that were able to pull together our unforgettable wedding. Our photographer, Holly Robbins, blessed us with amazing photos that I still cry like a baby over three months later. Overall our wedding was such an easy going and love filled day, exactly how we envisioned the beginning of our happily ever!

Whimsical DIY Savannah Wedding from The Reason

This Bride? She is one talented little lady. And it only takes a quick peek at all the pretty she produced for her big day to see why I have deemed her one crafty little Bride. She, her handsome Groom and their family and friends made their wedding dreams a reality – and those dreams just happened to be gorgeous. The Reason captured every little dreamy detail, so be sure to check out all the lovely sitting pretty right here in the full gallery.

And there is even more gorgeous from this dreamy day waiting for you in their film by The Reason

Nontra + Stephen Wedding from the reason on Vimeo.

From the Bride… Steve and I live in Los Angeles, but since we’re both from the East Coast we decided to have our wedding closer to our friends and family at home. We had both attended the Savannah College of Art & Design at the same time, although we didn’t meet each other until 2009 in California through mutual friends. We decided to get married in Savannah since the city has special meaning to both of us and is centrally located between our families (mine are in Maryland, his are in Florida and New York). Plus, who doesn’t love historic Savannah as a wedding destination?

When it came time to choosing a venue we were looking for a place with plenty of room and LOTS of character. We found the Georgia State Railroad Museum (formerly the “Roundhouse Railroad Museum”) online, visited the site a few weeks later, and fell in love with the space. The entire property is such a historic landmark to Savannah and had plenty of space for us to have the ceremony as well as the reception. Plus it had the rustic feel we were looking for. Steve and I knew we wanted a crafty wedding, but we also wanted it to be modern and fun through the use of bright colors and type, rather than a vintage feeling. Turquoise is one of our favorite colors, so we went with an ombre’ of blues and greens for the wedding palette.

The rest of planning fell into place pretty easily. I am a Fashion and Graphic Designer, so I had pretty specific ideas for our BIG DAY. Steve just let me run with it, giving input when and where he needed to. Since we were mostly paying for the wedding ourselves, we wanted to do as much of the planning and decor on our own to save money. We had a 14 month engagement and were drowning in fabric and kraft paper the entire time! From screen-printing dish cloths, to folding poof-balls (we made almost 300!), to building cake stands… we did it all and had a blast.

Since neither one of us is very religious, it was important that the ceremony represented us as a couple- laid back and FUN. We wrote our own ceremony which was short and personal. After the cocktail hour the guests were welcomed with champagne sorbet for the reception. The food- a Southern BBQ buffet- was excellent. We had a spread of Southern-flavored cupcakes for dessert: Red Velvet, Coconut, Banana, Apple Spice, and Peach Vanilla. Gifts (which included rock candy, shot glasses, Jordan almonds, and personalized napkins) were wrapped up in a berry basket. The DJ was incredible and the photo booth was a hit. We love to dance and drink, and that’s exactly what we did! It was a PARTY.

Everything couldn’t have happened without the help of our family and friends. My mom did all 75 floral arrangements scattered throughout the reception. Steve’s parents and family friends from New York hung all of our decorations that morning. A friend built and delivered our arbor from South Carolina. It was a wedding built from love and every detail represented us. All of our vendors were amazing and we couldn’t have imagined everything turning out any better. It really was the most perfect day ever.

Lakemont, Georgia Wedding from Mark Elkins Photography

I kind of live for weddings like this.  Weddings that are the perfect combination of laid-back and whimsical, with a dash of DIY thrown in for good measure.  Weddings that turn simple mason jars into chalkboard-infused cocktail carriers and BBQ and s’mores into the perfect wedding yumminess.  It’s a day that joins one darling duo with the perfect stylings of Sittin in a Tree Weddings and a whole lot of pretty captured by Mark Elkins Photography.  See it all in the full gallery.

From the Bride… I wanted our wedding to be a perfect reflection of everything Chas and I are – laid back and fun- no stuffiness allowed! For us, this meant an outdoor wedding, barn reception, BBQ and s’mores! We had a pretty tight budget, but didn’t want that to limit the possibilities for our wedding, so we took on a lot of DIY projects. Looking back, we might have taken on a few too many projects, but they all came together in the end to help create my dream wedding. I liked the projects so much I even opened my own Etsy shop after the wedding, so I could keep crafting!

The DIY crafts started from the very beginning- we designed, printed and assembled our wedding invitations ourselves. My mom sewed the bridesmaids’ dresses, and even made me a coordinating one that I wore while getting ready! I made the belt for my dress and borrowed my sister’s veil. My hubby Chas put all of our wedding signage together himself, and I painted and finished them. One of my wonderful bridesmaids helped make all of the chalkboard mason jar glasses. Our ceremony altar was built by my dad, and covered in pinwheels my sister and I made. We worked with the preacher to create a ceremony that we felt represented us and our relationship. It was truly a beautiful ceremony.

We incorporated a lot of DIY details for our reception, as well.  I sewed our wedding cake topper and also refinished an antique desk that belonged to my late grandmother to use as our dessert table, which we then topped with some of our families’ favorite desserts! We had BBQ for dinner at the reception, complete with a BBQ sauce bar with different sauces – my mom’s homemade sauce, the delicious sauce from our favorite restaurant (Fox Bros BBQ in Atlanta) and a North Carolina style sauce to represent Chas’ side of the family! Even our rehearsal dinner the night before was a low country boil to incorporate my Louisiana roots! We ended the evening with a s’mores station complete with a bonfire log and sparklers!

My favorite part of the day was our First Look before the ceremony. It was so nice to take a few minutes to see my man and catch my breath before the ceremony began!

Mint + Gold Inspired Photo Shoot from Paige Jones + Gertie Mae’s Floral Studio

It just so happens that mint and gold is my favorite color palette of the moment. I love to wear it, decorate with it, and who wouldn’t love a party planned around it? So the minute this inspiration shoot from Paige Jones and Gertie Mae’s Floral Studio hit my inbox, you better believe I was smitten as a blogging kitten. With details galore and a team of top-notch vendors, I think we can all agree this photo shoot is one for the books.

From Paige Jones CoI had been dreaming up a mint and gold inspired shoot for a while. I loved the color combination and wanted to bring to life a playful wedding scene in these hues. My only other must was an ice cream bar in some way, shape or form. I enlisted Atlanta-based planner and designer Kristine Cholakian of Simply Charming Socials to hash out all the details and together we created something spectacular.

Nestled in historic downtown Marietta, GA, The Brickyard offered the perfect urban backdrop for this inspired shoot. It’s concrete floor and white brick walls are the perfect blank slate. The venue houses a large metal hoop dropped from the rafters, where designers and brides can flaunt their creativity by hanging any number of decor pieces. For this shoot, the geometric shape of the ice cream cone was continued throughout, in both literal and abstract forms. Both plain white and gilded paper cones cascaded in a semi-circle, creating an asymmetrical alter for the bride and groom. Over 200 cones almost float in mid air and frame the couple with a touch of sparkle. Spanning 10 feet wide and 14 feet tall, the scale of the installation was impressive, but yet delicate all the same. The sweetheart table came next, where the focal point was a bright display of floral artistry from Gertie Mae’s Floral Studio. Sherry choose the most eye-catching and colorful botanicals she could find to build this beautiful centerpiece in a geometric gold bowl. The table, provided by rental company Goodwin Events, was dressed with a custom dyed ombre mint linen. Goodwin also offered beautiful gold chiavari chairs with white cushions to tie in the theme. The couples place settings were an eclectic mixed of dishes and glasses and were tied together by a hand-painted striped napkins, courtesy of Simply Charming Socials.

Post ceremony, guests would be directed to a striking display of the magnetic escort wall. 64 mint colored cones each gently held a single bright bloom and small flag with the guests name. Flowers included poppies, bi-colored parrot tulips, anemones, lilac, ranunculus, baronia, hot meringue rose, and muscari. The idea was to use the already-existing magnetic feature of the venue to create art gallery-like display, that would not only be functional, but visually sensational.  After dinner, guest would enjoy dessert at the Ice Cream Bar. Custom dyed mint panels created a bright backdrop while a beautiful garland of greenery and florals framed gold letter signage. Eatable gold-dipped waffles cones, jimmy-encrusted sugar cones, painted paper cones, and bright ceramic bowls could be topped and filled with a choice of many flavors of artisan ice cream. Countless sprinkle options and toppings galore rounded out the spread. The bride and groom enjoyed a special treat: a sundae of their favorite flavors covered in chocolate syrup with a cherry on top.

Custom paper goods design company Charlotte Lane created a hand-painted invitation suite for this shoot. Watercolored mint triangles and touches of gold splash the paper and incorporate the geometric feel that is carried throughout the event. With hand lettering on both invite and response card, the suite is playful, yet formal. Gold-lined navy and blush envelopes round out the color palate. Real couple and newlyweds Amanda and Brandon played bride and groom for the day. Navy suspenders, a mint striped tie, and bright boutonniere added a pop of fun to Brandon’s gray suit. Amanda donned a short tulle dressed designed by Chaviano Couture, that could only be described as fluffy and flirty. Her ensemble was accented by mint-colored jewelry and shoes. She held a full bouquet of colorful blooms, dripping with mint and gold ribbon. Talented and sweet hair and make-up artist Claudia Mejerle gave our bride a short curly bob with lots of volume, a fresh face with long lashes, and an array of bold lip colors. A fun feature: the bride switched up her lipstick throughout the event, from crimson to magenta to hot peach.

Sweet Meadow Farms Wedding from Godwink Art Photography

I sat with this wedding for quite some time. Soaking up the sweetness surrounding the couple and their stunning style. And getting to do so through the picture perfect images from Godwink Art Photography? Well that was such a treat. Because they laid out this lovely love story in such a fashion that will make even the non-wedding lovers out there get a little giddy, so trust me when I say sitting with this one for a while is time well spent. See it all here.

From Godwink Art PhotographyDayne and Elizabeth’s wedding took place on a 300 acre farm out in Tallapoosa, Georgia. I believe this was the second wedding that the venue has had since opening for events. It is such a beautiful, isolated place. Down a dirt road and over creeks on one lane bridges. You’d never find it without specific directions. Our gps was even lost! But it was so worth it. There was so many DYI details that the bride spent so much time on. Even her bridesmaids pitched in and made signs and corn hole boards for her. And it was all so sweet and classy. Everything was magical, right down to the 1951 Hudson Hornet that a friend of the venue owners allowed Elizabeth & Dayne to borrow.

From the Bride… As you can see through our photographs, everything from the most minute detail to the most grand event was brought together in a harmonious blend of vintage style and glorious natural and earthy elements. We wanted southern charm and grace to exude in all our details and plans. Our selection of Sweet Meadow Farms was a no brainer once we arrived on the property. Melanie and her husband have created a sprawling paradise on the 300 acre farm in Tallapoosa, Georgia. Our families are very down to earth and have always shared a deep appreciation for natural scapes where we share much of our time together. The many treasures found on the property include multiple ponds, willows, bridges, rolling pastures, large oaks, wildflowers everywhere, gardens, fountains, barns, a beautiful farm house, and so much more. It was absolutely a dream venue. The owners of Sweet Meadow Farms were warm, welcoming, and most accommodating.

Located inside the farmhouse is the bridal suite and the groom’s suite with great care and detail taken to create the ambiance of the beginning of our special day to be everything we dreamed. The groom’s suite was so very masculine while preserving elegance from yesteryear. The Bridal Suite mirrored the same ambiance found in the groom’s suite, yet in the most feminine and charming fashion. Melanie has made sure that every detail is covered and that her clients will be catered to the upmost extent.

Melanie and her husband made provisions to drive me in the 1951 Hudson Hornet to the ceremony site in a nearby pasture where I made my walk down the aisle to meet my love under the wise 100 year old oak. It was such a kind gesture and yet another detail that this wonderful couple provided for us. As the entire ceremony and all our guests were beautifully mirrored in the still water of the pond, the quiet spring breeze blew and I gave my heart to the man of my dreams. It was pure magic.

Some of the DIY details that we included were the corn hole game, the hand painted pallet signs with various quotes that we love on them, and the grooms cake (baked by his mother) with the banner, the guest favors that included flower seeds and the sparklers for our exit. I purchased all the vintage style birdcages and the other table decor that our florist, Yona, then filled to the brim with the most gorgeous floral arrangements. We purchased a template off Etsy and printed and put together our invites for the event. Additionally, the groom, groomsmen, and doggy all sported hand crafted ties and suspenders made by the lovely ladies at E.W. McCall.

As the reception was held in the beautiful barn, at Sweet Meadow Farm, we included old wine barrels, church pews, antique side tables, and a southern style buffet catered by Gabe’s Downtown. The sweet tea flowed while Frank Sinatra sang his way through the night. It was all amazing. [dotted]

Kingsland, Georgia Wedding from Whitney Huynh Photography

The perfect way to infuse your Big Day with bundles upon bundles of personality?  Craft every last moment yourself… with the help of a fab team of vendors and your devoted friends and family, of course. And this darling Kingsland duo?  Well, they did just that, calling upon some uber-talented friends for florals and decor (Gardenia Floral Design), paper goods and live entertainment (Damion Suomi and the Minor Prophets), all while using their own talents to pull off one seriously epic wedding.  See every last moment captured by Whitney Huynh in the full gallery.

From Whitney Huynh PhotographyI love Dawn and Samuel, their wedding and their family! They invited us into their wedding with open arms. We felt so welcome. We made so many new friends and so many new memories.

Several months ago Dawn had contacted me about doing their engagement session… at the Brave’s Stadium. Just what I needed to break the rut of shooting at the same spots around town. We had a blast, and the images are still some of my very favorite.

Dawn and her parents practically planned this entire wedding by themselves with the help of a few vendor friends. I must say, it was everything Dawn and Samuel had imagined and dreamed of.

From the Bride… Samuel is from the furthest Northeast county of Georgia (Rabun) and I’m from the furthest Southeast county (Camden). When we first got engaged, we were lucky enough to have the beautiful mountains or the low country as our options for a wedding location. We decided on my hometown in the end, because of budget and being able to enlist my parent’s help. I know most people think of St. Simons and Jekyll Island when they imagine Georgia low country, but I wanted to show our friends and his family the gorgeous county I call home, which includes places like Cumberland Island and St. Marys. The Shell Cracker House was the perfect venue for the vision we had of a Southern vintage wedding on the St. Marys River.

The most important thing for us was to have a wedding and celebration that was fun and a community effort, like a true traditional wedding. One of the groomsmen designed and letterpressed our invitations, our officiant was a childhood friend, a close friend with a successful floral business did the flowers and decor and the band was that of Samuel’s former roommate. Since I grew up “junking” with my parents, I’ve always loved vintage and antique things, so the entire style of our wedding reflected a romantic, vintage vibe. A lot of the details were either made by hand or refinished by us, including the furniture and peach boxes used to hold our programs and escort cards.

The day came together better than we could have ever imagined. Both our families, immediate and extended, and even random strangers who lived near the venue helped set everything up. The weather was perfect, everyone was smiling with happy tears streaming down their faces, and Samuel and I had a beautiful and personal ceremony that we wrote together. The handkerchiefs we provided definitely came in handy! The party was just as personal with it being kicked off with a Braves tomahawk chop as soon as we were announced; Samuel and I are the biggest Braves fans. We danced and sang the night away with one of our most beloved live bands and celebrated the start of our life together to the fullest. We could not have had the wedding day of our dreams if it wasn’t for the people we love coming together to help us. Our families, friends, vendors and random strangers put together an amazing day that we will talk about for the rest of our lives.

From the Bride… Savannah, Georgia was the perfect choice for Ryan and me. An April wedding with the season’s new blooms, the cobblestone streets, historic homes, old-world charm and romance at every turn… one can only feel at home and yet this was our destination wedding.

Together with our family and closest friends we exchanged our vows in the ballroom of the historic and beautiful Mansion on Forsyth. The graciousness and Southern hospitality of the staff made the occasion that much more special. As the doors to the ballroom opened and I made my way with my brother down the aisle, carrying my father’s class ring pinned to my bouquet, I felt nothing but surrounded by love. That was by far the best moment of my life.

We especially appreciated how beautiful Forsyth Park was for our photo session and time for reflection. The majestic oak trees with their hanging spanish moss were the reason why we fell in love with the city.

As the sun began to set, our family and friends gathered on our wedding trolley, that would take them to our reception at the Harper Fowlkes house. The venue was intimate and romantic, just as we had planned for. Each place setting was set with a thank you to our friends and family and a fresh peach adorned with a name scroll, a hand made personal touch from the bride, me. Our wedding coordinator, Adair, did an amazing job executing the vision we had planned for our wedding. From our floral arrangements, to the bowls of overflowing peaches scenting the air, the candle light against the crisp white linens and chevron napkins, our signature truly shined through and I saw my dream become a reality.

Dining and dancing with our loved ones continued well into the evening and then the fireworks (well at least they felt like fireworks). Actually large hand held sparklers held by all of our loved ones lined the entire street and made an archway as we dashed hand in hand towards the waiting car, blew a kiss and began our journey together as one.

Oh and by the way, did I mention it was our five-year anniversary?

Georgia Riverfront Wedding from Buffy Dekmar Photography

There is a LOT I love about the gorgeous state of Georgia, but what I love the most is the untouchable style it seems to possess. It’s that dash of old-southern charm, that sprinkle of lace and that perfectly timeless way the fine residents of that state seem to approach any soiree. It’s how all of those things come seamlessly together to create a flawless fête like this one designed by Weddings & Whimsy by Jodie and captured by Buffy Dekmar Photography at Rivermill Event Centre. Where the prettiness tries to take center stage, but it’s the love and family that beats it to it. See the entire day here.

And there is more gorgeous Georgia goodness sitting pretty in this film from Dekmar Films

Kendall + Zach | Super 8mm Wedding by the River from Chris Dekmar on Vimeo.

From Buffy Dekmar… Kendall and Zach’s wedding was a beautifully simple, southern affair, set beside an historic Georgia mill on the river (Rivermille Event Centre in Columbus, Georgia). The theme was subtly rustic, infused with soft pinks and bright spring greens. The bride and groom wanted to keep the vibe very relaxed and fun, and they accomplished that goal with a fancy rendition of barbeque, a s’mores bar, and a DJ that knew how to have a good time. The bride’s parents surprised the couple with a big, spherical lantern that rose behind the trees at dusk and slowly went higher in the sky as the night went on, like moonlight through the pines.

From the Bride…Zach and I were introduced by a mutual friend the first semester of our first year in college on a blind date. From the first minute I met him, he had me laughing and smiling; after two weeks, I knew he was the man I was going to marry. Within a year of dating, he proposed to me at a get together at our mutual friends’ house. We held off on getting married for 3 years so I could finish up school, so, needless to say, I had plenty of time to plan the wedding and research (AKA Pinterest) little details I wanted to make our wedding “ours”.

Zach and I had always agreed on having an outdoor wedding with a rustic, homey, Southern feel to it. After everything was said and done, we wanted our guests to come to a celebration of our love, rather than a wedding. We wanted to incorporate all the things into our celebration that we felt made for a great Southern night with friends: great company, tasty food, awesome music, and, of course, a good fire or two. We made sure that every aspect of our wedding would contribute to the feel we aimed to achieve.

I would love to say that I came up with every idea that was made into reality for our wedding, but I would do my Mother and our wedding planner, Jodi, a disservice to take any of the credit. I communicated everything I mentioned above to Jodi and my Mother, and they took all of my ideas and turned them into a gorgeous affair that I couldn’t even dreamed of putting together by myself (especially with finishing up college, working, etc!). And, I would be doing Zach a disservice if I didn’t mention that the fire-pits with rocking chairs and s’mores were his idea. We kept the simplicity that we wanted and costs low by using mason jars, lanterns, and candles as smaller centerpieces with lower-cost flowers that made a big statement. I actually picked Zach and his groomsmens’ boutineers out of a field at our farm. And, instead of sending out elaborate invitations, we kept them simple and plain, so we could direct more of our budget towards food, drinks, the venue, and photography (the things that people remember after the wedding is over).

The best decision we made in planning the wedding was definitely hiring Jodi, our wedding planner. Jodi took care of EVERYTHING, and the day of the wedding, my Mother and I were able to relax and take in the day without having to worry about little things. If anything went wrong on our wedding day, the whole wedding party was completely unaware of it, because Jodi had it taken care of. The second best decision we made was choosing a venue that included a wedding coordinator, food, drinks, tables, chairs, etc in their options, as well as an inside option just in case the weather didn’t cooperate. It cut down on a lot of leg work, and definitely made planning the wedding easier. The third best decision we made was arranging for Zach and I to have a private 15 minute meal immediately after the ceremony. We were able to relish the moment, eat the fabulous food we had picked out, and spend some alone time with just the two of us before we joined the ceremony and spoke with all our guests.

Our entire wedding day was everything that we wanted it to be and more, so it is difficult to pick just one favorite memory from our day. I personally would have to say my favorite memory from the day was dancing with my new husband, all our best friends, and family the entire reception. I love to dance at weddings, so I made sure to make a point to do plenty of dancing at my own wedding!

Fort Valley Wedding from We Do…Wedding Photography

When rustic meets romantic at the breathtaking Pineola Farms, it’s cause for an all-out celebration here on SMP Georgia.  A celebration in honor of stunningly beautiful details, heartwarming moments (see: tying the knot… literally) and a cute-as-can-be duo joining together for all eternity.  Basically, a full day’s worth of amazing, all captured in lovely images by We Do…Wedding Photography.  Ready to dive into all of the festivities?  Join me in the gallery for sooo much more.

From We Do…Wedding Photography… A wonderfully romantic wedding.  The groom and his father made the engraved stumps at the end of the aisle.  The bridesmaids each wore a different dress that they personally chose.  The bride and groom decided to tie the knot-literally. Each had a rope and tied a knot instead of sand or a unity candle.

Fall Wedding in Georgia from Rustic White Photography

Some people wake up and need a big, steaming cup of coffee before they can really start their day. I wake up and need a good dose of pretty. And today? We are getting that dose by way of this seriously stunning Georgia soiree from Rustic White Photography. With a Bride so lovely she doesn’t look real, in a gown so gorgeous, it looks like it was made just for her – each image has me more in love with this wedding than the one before, so get your extra dose of pretty this morning right here.

From the Bride… We had a sunny afternoon wedding in November, with a reception at an historic Southern home, so I wanted to take advantage of the beautiful colors and textures of the season; hence our eggplant, crimson and yellow color scheme and burlap table runners. Because it was in the afternoon, I hoped to create a casual but elegant atmosphere. My gown and my bridesmaids’ dresses were long, soft and flowing, but not overly formal. I developed a bird theme, which was mostly inspired by our favors, which I found on Pinterest before we got engaged! They were homemade bird feeders made by my mom, mother-in-law, myself and my grandmothers. We also had a bird-nest on our cake, head table, and bird table number holders. Distressed bird houses found at a fabric store and miss-matched antique vases in our color scheme scavenged by my mom and me from local antique markets (and our basement) gave our reception a rustic and colorful look.

Many of my ideas came from Pinterest, including our favors, our advice tree (a bare tree where people could hang notes or marriage advice), my cake, putting pictures of our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents’ weddings around our reception, many of our favorite photographs, and my dress. All of the bridal and bridesmaid/mother jewelry was purchased from Etsy.com. Each bridesmaid wore a necklace with a silver bird charm, a pearl, and her birthstone. Much of my bridal ensemble was made by my mom and myself. I was inspired by a beautiful but expensive designer gown on Pinterest and decided to mimic it. I found a soft, simple dress and designed sheer cap sleeves with Swarvoski pearls and rhinestones which my mom was able to make for me! Each stone was sewn lovingly by hand. I made my garter and my headpiece, and my mom made me a simple veil for the ceremony that could detach from my headpiece. My mom also had a very special handkerchief made for me; it was one of my great-grandmother’s hand-made hankies with the name of every woman in my family tree, as far back as we could find, embroidered on it. I wrapped it around my bouquet.

Traditionally, groomsmen match the bridesmaids and the groom matches the bride, but we went for neutral (black) vests for all of the men, but gave my husband a purple tie, while the groomsmen and dads were in champagne and silver. My husband’s pop of color looks great in pictures! The groomsmen also got an extra dose of nerdiness and humor with another Pinterest-inspired idea of wearing super-hero t-shirts under their suits, making for some entertaining pictures.

Some of my favorite memories were the dances I did with my husband and father. Both were very nervous about their moments in the spotlight, so only about a week before the wedding, I choreographed both dances. Having choreographed steps made both guys less nervous and they ended up having a blast! Not to mention our guests loved the personal touch of the dances.

One of our money-savers was the fact that we used bird houses and a small bud arrangement on every other table instead of large bouquets on each table; we also used the bridesmaid bouquets to decorate the head table. We found the burlap for 40% off at JoAnn fabrics, and my mother cut all the runners herself. We also used an antique Hudson, a car rebuilt and owned by my bridesmaid’s father, as our getaway car, and her dad was kind enough to be our chauffeur!

Auburn, Georgia Wedding from Julie Anne, Wedding Photographer

These two are adorable.  We knew that from the very second we spotted their kissing booth engagement session last June.  Yes, I said a kissing booth engagement session… sooo cute.  So when the oh-so-talented Julie Anne, Wedding Photographer sent along their stunning Auburn wedding, well, we couldn’t wait to share it all with you.  A breathtaking day literally bursting with romantic touches, it’s mesmerizing florals from Twolips Boutique meets a stunning Carl House setting meets all kinds of crazy gorgeous pink hues.  See every last love-filled moment right here.

From Julie Anne, Wedding PhotographerSamantha and Jared had a beautiful pink and sage wedding at Carl House in Auburn, Georgia. Their wedding featured harmonious couplings of romantic blooms from antique hydrangeas adorned with a rose petal aisle to the perfect pairing of a ranunculus & scabiosa pod boutonniere. The focal point of the ceremony, second only to the bride and groom themselves, was the custom-made rustic trellis dripping from splinter to nail head with floral graced garland. The motif encapsulated romantic whimsy by featuring soft pink lisianthus and pale ivory stock that molded into the brick backdrop to the point where you couldn’t tell where one stopped and the other began. The bouquets were truly something to swoon over with the pinks, whites, and ivories that little girls the globe over dream for on their wedding day. Crowned with the always lovely silvery green softness of dusty miller and lambs ear, the bridal bouquet was a masterpiece in and of itself. To keep the wedding feeling intimate, they decided on a smaller bridal party. Sam’s Maid Of Honor was dressed to the 9s in her sage J.Crew chiffon dress.

The Carl House is one of the most picturesque venues and is just outside of Atlanta. Regardless of the time of year, everywhere you look is just another moment waiting to be captured. Built in 1903, Carl House is situated on four manicured acres that are surrounded by over 30 acres of the original pasture land property giving Carl House a plantation atmosphere. The bride and groom’s favorite part was the rustic barn for which Sam begged for an image with the beautiful horses.

St. Simons, Georgia Wedding from LeeAnn Ritch Photography

I’m a true believer that a little dusting of rain makes any wedding day just that much better.  A bit more dreamy, a bit more cozy and a bit more romantic.  Not that these two St. Simons sweeties need any help in the romance department, because after literally growing up together (they met at the age of 10) and spending their teens and early 20’s as “just friends,” they realized that the “comfort” they had always felt with one another was more than that… it was true love, instead.  And to celebrate their meant-to-be? Well, they enlisted the help of Darryl Wiseman Flowers, EastCoast Entertainment and LeeAnn Ritch Photography, a team sure to take any dreams and turn them into reality.  See it all in the full gallery.

From the Bride… Nick and I met at the age of 10 when our families moved into the same neighborhood. Through middle school and high school we had the same group of friends, but it wasn’t until our best friends started dating each other that were we “forced” to be together more. Though we went to different colleges (I attended Ole Miss and he attended LSU), we remained friends and saw each other every summer when we would come home from school.

It wasn’t until after college, once I had moved to New York to start a career, did Nick and I started looking at each other as more than friends. It was a very natural progression, made slowly over time, as we were in different cities. There was something comforting and very natural about falling in love with an old friend. After three years in the Big Apple, I returned to Georgia, our hometown, to be back with my friends, family… and Nick. Our families blended immediately – made easier by the fact our parents were already friends within the community. It just fit.

On the day of our wedding, we had 14 of our best friends standing next to us – 12 of whom had attended school with us both since the age of 10. Needless to say, it was impossible to have a “bride” or “groom” side at the church, as many of our guests had known us both since grade school. It seems weird to say ‘I have already know my husband for 19 years,’ and still feel so young. Looking back, there was always a comfort I felt around Nick – even as a child, before I understood what it meant, I knew somehow that we would end up together.

St. Simons Island Wedding from Lyndi J. Photography

Three ingredients that guarantee a stop-you-in-your-tracks wedding: a stunning St. Simons Island location, a plethora of fab DIY details and an adorable bride and groom.  And this beautiful seaside celebration?  Well, it has all three.  Set against a breathtaking backdrop of sandy beaches and crystal blue waters, it’s fun-filled moments (beach balls, anyone?) meets a whole lot of Southern sweetness meets some seriously lovely blue hues.  Care to kick off your weekend in the full gallery captured by Lyndi J. Photography?  Yep, me, too.

From Lyndi J. Photography… A private residence overlooking the marsh on St. Simons Island, GA is where this entire day’s beauty unfolded.  In the true form of Southern hospitality, every detail was thoroughly thought out, all the way down to the Sweet Tea.  Kelly, the bride, spent countless hours creating all the DIY details – from aisle decorations, to menus, to boutonnieres.  In lieu of a formal favor, Kelly and her groom, Jared, adopted a sea turtle, Gracias, from the Georgia Sea Turtle Center.  Instead of bubbles or rice, beach balls were tossed in the air as the bride and groom walked back down the aisle.  Every aspect of the day was a reflection of the couple and their love of family and the ocean.

Augusta, Georgia Wedding from Ashley Seawell Photography

I’m a girl who loves tradition. It warms my heart, and is one of the many reasons classic weddings like this beauty captured by Ashley Seawell Photography make me weak in the knees. It’s timeless perfection – with the Bride’s gorgeous lace veil and elegant bridal style – and it perfectly proves why a classic soiree will always hold a big spot in my wedding-loving heart. See it all here.

From Ashley Seawell… Rebekah and John invited their guests to celebrate in the bride’s hometown of Augusta.  Their meaningful ceremony took place in her home church and a lovely reception followed at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art (the bride was actually their director at the time of her marriage).  This art museum was the perfect choice for their desire of a thoughtful and intimate reception.  Peonies and garden roses were used throughout the day.  After the couple’s engagement, Rebekah’s family collected vintage dessert plates.  They were a beautiful addition to the cake table and will continue to serve as an heirloom for their family.  [dotted]

Savannah Wedding from Something Pretty Photography

Sometimes the simplest, most intimate of weddings speak the most to me. I absolutely love the idea of them. Where the meaning of every thoughtful touch can be explained to your guests across the dinner table, where toasts turn into lovely conversation involving everyone and where each of your guest feels like the most important guest. Something Pretty Photography brought just such a fête with this sweet Savannah soiree, and it’s safe to say, I’m smitten. From Something Pretty Photography… Lauren and Adam’s wedding was a second wedding, and it was a very intimate small family affair that was just perfect.  I loved how almost everything had traces of her grandmother throughout the entire day–she wore her jewelry and her fur (which was monogrammed inside with her initials), she had a beautiful painting at the wedding that her grandmother had painted and we went after the ceremony to shoot portraits at her grandparents old house in Savannah where she had spent a lot of time as a child.  It was really perfect..a simple, sweet family affair that was classically beautiful.
