Classic and Romantic Wedding Film

There’s a spark between some couples that’s impossible not to notice when you’re around them, or in this case, watching their wedding video. This video really is an inspiring ode to the love these two people share, so sit back and enjoy 3Ring Weddings handy work. The event came together with the help of B Moore Events, and there’s also a lovely little photo gallery with shots from Lacey For Scobey Photography.

From 3Ring Weddings… Some couples shine, some radiate, and some, like Kofi and Candace, reflect.

When I say reflect I’m not just talking about a sort of introspective posture (although that is very much a part of Kofi and Candace’s life as well). Rather, I’m talking about their ability to reflect good on the other. Kofi and Candace are opposites in many ways. He’s more “A-Type” and she is more “free spirited”. The good that comes from these differences reflects on to the other and makes growth and mutual encouragement possible. Candace backed this up when she remarked; “He’s able to, in a loving and gentle way, focus me in on that potential and then we’re both amazed at the outcome.” Kofi likewise benefits from Candace’s differences. “She lifts me, she encourages me, she supports me and she stands by my side. That support and that encouragement is unbelievable.”

Their goodness certainly has helped each other, but their sense of good doesn’t come merely from the other, it comes as a reflection of their faith – their definition of goodness. Kofi shared; “I think it’s an awesome opportunity being together just to really reflect the glory of God in life all around us, in people’s lives all around us.”

When we release their story we’ll share more about the importance of agreeing on a source for goodness and reflecting that truth onto your spouse. For now we hope you enjoy their trailer. You’ll get to see snippets from their late April wedding that took place at The Foundry and was beautifully executed by Shaundra Moore of B. Moore Events. And I don’t want to forget the shout out to Scobey Photography for always being a pleasure to work with!

Elegant Atlanta Wedding at Callenwolde

It never fails, when I see a wedding captured by Harwell Photography I find myself captivated. I absolutely adore how Jeremy captures moments and details, and when he is behind the lens of a wedding like this beauty planned by Elly B Events, magic happens. His images tell the story of this gorgeous couples’ stunning day, and you can see it all right here.

From the Bride…“And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.” – Kahlil Gibran, On Love (The Prophet)

In college, I read many of the writings of Kahlil Gibran and was captivated by his reflections on love, friendship and the soul. Much to my surprise, in the extra hour afforded by daylight savings during the final party of homecoming weekend, I met a man named for my favorite writer and knew instantly that he was special. It didn’t take us long to fall in love. Years later, Gibran surprised me with plane tickets to attend our homecoming at Morehouse and Spelman College. While at the football game, Gibran asked my dad for his blessing to marry me. When he proposed the next day, of course I said “Yes!”

Although Gibran and I had recently relocated to Philadelphia, we knew that we would marry in Atlanta where our love story began. We wanted to create an intimate, relaxed, and fun affair with classic, easy elegance. Everything started falling beautifully into place when we found our venue. Callanwolde Fine Arts Center is a garden oasis in the city with sprawling lawns and a stunning tudor mansion. Inspired by Callanwolde, we incorporated art throughout the wedding including custom silhouette illustrations for our stationery, live music during the ceremony and cocktail hour, a specially made family photo wall, and hand-cut silhouettes for our guests as favors.

We selected the ampitheater for the ceremony, and it was the perfect backdrop for our celebration. Guests arrived by trolley and the day was warm and bright. I wore a chantilly lace gown by Augusta Jones and a cathedral length veil. Gibran was handsome in a Paul Smith tuxedo. We invited our parents to participate in our union by reading a libation blessing, poem, prayer and charge before we jumped the broom. Guests then walked to the front terrace for the cocktail hour, and we joined our dog, Marvin, in the garden for photos. Marvin was dressed for the occasion and even tried to kiss the bride!

The reception was held in the indoor courtyard draped with layers of white sheers and crystals. The decor included a long floral garland, lush chair swags, bow-tied napkins, and birdcage centerpieces. After dinner and toasts, the lights were dimmed low and spirits were high as we danced with family and friends. Our wedding day passed quickly, but we are thankful for the moments we shared with those dearest to us, and for the memories made as we start our life together.

Elegant White Wedding in Georgia

A Southern classic is something that we fully embrace. The timeless details and charm never get old and if you throw a little y’all in there; well, we’re pretty much done for. But this day goes so beyond that. It’s a palette of all white with hints of metallic that can only be described as pure elegance. And it’s made even more so at the hands of so many great vendors. Artisans like Come + Together EventsBy Tulip and Harwell Photography . See all of their handy-work and the rest of this stunning affair  right here.

From the Bride… My fiance DJ and I love traveling, spending time with friends and family, college football, testing ATL’s best restaurants and having fun! He enjoys golf and carpentry, while I really like cooking, fashion, art history and yoga.

The inspiration for our wedding day is traditional, southern sophistication (i guess you could say…). My style tends to gravitate towards anything classic and timeless. I am obsessed with any and all black and white wedding photos.

From the Bride… Thinking back to our wedding day, makes me smile ear to ear. After a fourteen month engagement, Robert and I got married on October 5, 2013 at the Atlanta Botanical Garden in Midtown, Atlanta. Robert and I grew up, met, and fell in love in Atlanta. We knew that we wanted to have our wedding in our home town, so our good friends and family would be close by our sides. Fall in Atlanta is absolutely beautiful, and after visiting the Atlanta Botanical Gardens we instantly feel in love with the big outdoor spaces, intimate gardens, and one of kind topiaries.

Our wedding would not have been a tenth of what it was without our outstanding wedding planner, Daria MacGregor, from Circle of Love Weddings. Daria held our hands without being too overbearing, and helped us pick the vendors that most reflected our wedding vision of an elegant intimate night surrounded by our family and close friends. Every bride needs a Daria. Our ceremony was in the Rose Garden, and Robert and I walked down the aisle to music by After Five String Quartet. My favorite part of the ceremony was the white archway covered with ivory garden roses, blush garden roses, blush spray roses, and blush pee gee hydrangea, which was created by Danny Wilson of The Savage Garden.

Walking into the reception, one would have never guessed that we left the rose garden because there were gorgeous flower arrangements everywhere. Thank you thank you Danny! It was beautiful! Escort cards with hanging bells, created by Lisa Hladish of Paper Daisies, lead guests to their assigned seat. We had a sit down dinner, with delicious food catered by Dennis Dean, and a scrumptious wedding cake for dessert, baked by For Goodness Cakes. We could not have asked for a better band that the Atlanta Show Stoppers. Having a groom that is passionate about music made the song selection process one of my most memorable parts of the wedding planning process, and our incredible band played everything we asked for. The Atlanta Showstoppers got our guests on their feet and dancing from the moment they started to play. They even got Robert and myself on stage a few times.

Every detail of our wedding was perfect, and we are able to relive the day through our dazzling photographs taken by Ashley and Graham of Scobey Photography, as well as our marvelous and fun wedding video taken by Chris Bartelski of The Reason I Love. Our wedding day and honeymoon to Italy was without a doubt the best two weeks of our lives, and Robert and I could not be more thankful for all the gracious support from our lovely family and friends.

Kate met Brad during a layover. They had immediate chemistry, but she told him that if he wanted to continue growing what they had, he would have to do it…via handwritten letter. So he did. She got the first letter on Valentine’s Day, and over the course of a move (him to her city) and forty letters, what developed was a proposal, hidden in written code… ‘Since the day we first met I have been captivated by your beauty, personality, and your faith. I’ve been blessed to get to know you in such a fun and unique way. I’ve truly felt like the luckiest man because of your effort and desire to get to know me as well. I am honored that you would want to pursue each other while still holding true to yourself and your promise. There’s been something that I have thought about for a long time, Katherine Anne…” Then, he proposed!!

It gives me chills every time I read it! Words cannot even begin to describe how special Kate & Brad’s wedding day was to us. It was an incredible experience. Nick and I were the only guests and we wandered all around downtown Savannah and Tybee Island. It was a perfect day!

Vintage Indoor Affair in Atlanta

With a sea of al fresco garden affairs flooding our inbox, it’s such a treat to come across a wedding held in the great indoors. This Atlanta gem is not only making a mark in the indoor arena but a true beauty with suspended florals by The Savage Garden, vintage design by Kate And Campbell Weddings and enough pretty images by Scobey Photography to last your perusing well into the afternoon.

From the Bride… Every little girl dreams about their prince charming, their gorgeous wedding, their happily ever after… On October 20, my dream came true.

I woke that morning feeling so calm, at peace, and filled with overwhelming emotions of gratitude. I ordered some hot tea, wrote in my journal, did some soothing yoga, and prayed for a beautiful day.

Not only was I marrying a man that makes me whole, supports me, and loves me… but I was also marrying into a beautiful family. Since day 1, Chester’s family welcomed me with open arms and blessed our relationship immensely. This is truly the best gift God could ever give me. I was blessed with my amazing family and now I have another beautiful family to share holidays with, laugh with, build more memories with.

This whole year of wedding planning was filled with so many emotions…but mostly it was filled with joy and excitement! Because Chester was gone most of the year with the Airforce, my mom was there for every step of the way. We had the time of our lives looking through wedding magazines, pinning ideas on pinterest, trying on wedding gowns, and meeting with different vendors. When it came to choosing our vendors, I not only looked at their portfolio, I also asked myself, “Can I see myself being their friend?” We were blessed with the most wonderful vendors…and had the best time planning my fairy-tale wedding. They brought my vision to life..,.no, they went BEYOND of what I could have ever imagined!!!

The wedding planning was the easy part of the year… the part I had the most difficult time with was imagining myself in the center of attention, saying my vows with confidence and strength. The last thing I ever wanted was to have my voice stand in the way of expressing my love to my future husband. I prayed to God every night to give me strength, to give me full confidence in myself, to stand in front of all of our friends and family and say the vows that I wrote to the love of my life. The two months leading up to the big day, I was anxious, nervous, and filled with anxiety…not because I was doubtful about who I was marrying, but only because of my voice condition.

Finally, our wedding day was here…the moment of truth. Was my Dysphonia going to get in the way of being confident, calm, and happy? God blessed us with a gorgeous Fall sunny day. The whole day was filled with magic, serenity, and pure Love. When it came to walk down the aisle with my dad, I was surprisingly at peace…I was ready to marry Chester. That walk down the aisle was a moment I will never forget. I made sure to walk slowly…I looked around to see my family and friends smiling at me…soaking this moment…I looked up to my dad’s eyes and saw how proud he was of his little girl….then my eyes met Chester’s and saw his eyes light up, tears starting to roll down both my face and his face. My dad kissed my cheek and gave me to Chester. God gave me the strength I needed to say my vows to my love. I just wanted to press pause and really take in all the emotions that I was feeling.

Our wedding was simply… magical.

A day we will always cherish.

A day we will one day tell our kids all about.

“Love is a partnership of two unique people who bring out the very best in each other, and who know that even though they are wonderful as individuals, they are even better together.”

Antique Elegance meets Southern Charm in Savannah

I’m going to try my best to not sound stalkerish when I say I love this Bride in a major, total Project Runway superfan sort of way. Two time contestant, Kate Pankoke, is best known for her super chicbridal ensembles and her wedding is no exception. It’s a full on elegant Southern affair stuffed to the gills with the perfect vintage touches captured by Shannon Christopher. And the dress from Kate’s bridal line, Elaya Vaughn? Pretty sure Tim Gunn would give a standing ovation. See even more right here.

Kate and Zach are high school sweethearts, so this wedding was a long time in the making. They are old souls who love to go antiquing; which is what led them to choose Savannah, GA as the location for their wedding. They wanted it to be very intimate yet still glamorous; with it’s spacious ballroom and dining area complete with stunning crystal chandeliers, Brockington Hall was the perfect venue for this wedding.

The theme of the wedding was Antique Elegance with a Rustic flare. They had mix and match vintage chairs for the ceremony and reception. Kate wanted the flowers to be voluminous but understated, like freshly picked wildflowers from the woods in front of her childhood home in South Florida. Kate and her bridesmaids ordered the flowers from Sam’s Club online and assembled the bouquets and centerpieces the night before the wedding with help from the amazing ladies at Ivory and Beau. The bouquets and centerpieces consisted of white baby’s breath and hydrangea with green fern accents.

The tables were marked with books that were named after the many different volumes of Kate and Zach’s life together. The happy couple was seated with their parents at “Volume VII. Happily Ever After”. The tables were draped in champagne satin tablecloths and accented with antique lace runners borrowed from Kate’s friends and family. The floral centerpieces were placed in large hurricane vases with a base of green moss and tan Manzanita branches. Each table was topped with several interesting antiques that the couple had found during one of their many adventures together.

Kate is a designer and has her own line, Elaya Vaughn Bridal, so she executed the ultimate bridal DIY and made her own gown. Fun Fact, she made it 7 days before the wedding! Kate’s gown is a stunning A-line tulle gown. It has a strapless, structured bodice with a champagne beaded lace overlay. Kate also made her veil that was just slightly longer than her train. Myra Callan from Twigs and Honey gave Kate the gorgeous baby’s breath crystal and pearl headpiece that topped off the look.

Though the guest list was limited, the bridal party was not! Kate and Zach each had 9 attendants on their side making the bridal party account for over 20% of the wedding! Kate’s side was a little unique, she didn’t understand why she should only be able to choose women to be her bridesmaids, so she had a combination of bridesmaids and brides-men. The bridesmaids wore beautiful lace LBDs from Anthropologie and the brides-men wore the same attire as the groomsmen, Black by Vera Wang tuxes. Kate and Zach surprised the ladies in their party with black crystal drop earrings and the men with black and white polka dot bow ties with their initials embroidered on them.

Zach is Jewish and Kate is Catholic, so they wanted to have a non-denominational ceremony. As a surprise to all of their guests, Zach’s brother, Josh, got ordained and performed the ceremony.
After the ceremony, the guests had a cocktail hour in the library and then greeted the couple for their first dance. The bride and groom danced to “Do You Remember” by Jack Johnson.
Guests feasted on some good old Southern cooking like collard greens, shrimp and grits, and Chicken Pulaski. The cake was a beautiful 3 tiered rustic buttercream creation by the talented team at Tier Luxury Cakes.

Kate and Zach chose to do a Tea Bar for their favors. They had vintage jars that their guests could scoop local Savannah tea into to take a part of the south with them.
After dancing the night away, guests retreated to the porch for a cool night breeze and a final glass of champagne as they bid their farewells and good wishes to the new Mr. and Mrs. Aberman….and they lived happily ever after.

Enchanted Winter Wedding Inspiration

True story – it snowed last week here in little ol’ New England. Snowed! So while this wintery wedding inspiration shoot may seem a bit off-beat for April, let me assure you those flurries haven’t left for good just yet. And let’s be honest, with Kate IncerGracie Blue and Laura Leslie on the job, cold weathered days never looked sooooo good. Have a peek at the gallery and Incer Studio’s film below!

From Kate Incer…

The Inspiration:

This shoot drew inspiration from envisioning a timeless love story between a bride and a groom, perhaps from decades past. Theirs is a love that makes the world stand still if only for a moment. A wintry wedding, whose chilled air beckons you to hold one another tight, is filled with romance and ethereal elegance.

I wanted to include beautiful thoughtful details and highlight gilded accents that provided just the right touch of golden sparkle. Lovely lace, soft furs, shimmering linens, enduring stone, and twisting foliage offer the perfect balance of textures and tell a rich story. Our unplanned star of the shoot – the bevy of swirling snow flurries – created an idyllic frosty dreamland rarely encountered in the South. We embraced this powder white beauty with open arms.

The Location:

Could we have asked for anything more breathtaking? Foxhall Resort & Sporting Club served as the ultimate backdrop for this shoot in all its serene snowy splendor. Stunning views of snow-covered pastures and dramatic landscapes surrounded us. Tranquil woodlands, rolling hills and icy waters flowing through the white fields were spectacular sights to behold. This storybook setting was made all the more intimate with rustic wooden cabins and our candlelit stone fireplace.

Color Palette:

Our color palette included rich gold, blush pinks, deep black, and abundance of white courtesy of Mother Nature.

Attire:

The gorgeous gown from The Sentimentalist, curator of all things lovely, was an exquisite vision in lace by Sarah Seven. This dreamy number epitomized our inspiration of ethereal elegance with delicate lightness and glimmering metallic threads. A downy fur stole made it winter perfection. Our maids donned flirty black frocks; each look had their own signature style, but complimented one another flawlessly. An oversized face-framing bow for one maid and embroidered organza lace for the other. Our groom wore a dashing black tux and bowtie whose fine dots made him even more dapper. His black patent shoes finished off his polished look.

The Details:

I find details to be so important for storytelling and they do so much to bring personalized beauty to a scene. Charm from new and old pieces combined seamlessly. For our picturesque tablescape, blush sequin linens were the foundation for a spectacular array of English vintage china. Beautifully crafted menus, gold rimmed goblets + silver and gold flatware completed our place settings. A dramatic garland of greenery and florals with gold candlesticks amidst flurries of snow made it all oh so romantic and surreal.

Our paper goods suite was artfully designed for our couple and featured black, gold, and ivory.
With a soft spot for signage and making things by hand, I created a cork and paper piece that reads “Together is a beautiful place to be.” The glittery golden text, each piece hand-cut, was made all the more pretty by adding fresh flowers to the sign.Three heavenly cakes shimmered in gold with sweet blackberries, anemones, lisianthus, and wax flower. These golden beauties stood proudly on milky white cake stands in the pristine sugar-like snow.

The stone fireplace was enrobed with grand branches whose green leaves peaked out from the veil of snow. Holly’s masterful design made the foliage appear as if it had beautifully sprouted from the stone itself. Our intimate hearth had rows of white candles flickering atop wax-dripped bottles my husband and I lovingly fashioned. This scene could be translated as a sublime ceremony backdrop or the perfect spot for a celebratory toast and kiss by candlelight.

Vendors:

It was an absolute dream being surrounded by such talent! The beautiful work of all those involved was truly inspiring and I am so thankful for their amazing contributions.

Sweet + Small Savannah Elopement

Fall Savannah Wedding

Savannah is a magical city. My best friend, Courtney, was born and raised in the city and brought us all to devour every last inch of her home when we were in college. It’s pure magic and when you layer on a wedding rich in beauty and style, well, the city just comes to life that much more. With photography from Amy Arrington, spend some time in these gorgeous galleries.

From the bride…Fall is our favorite time of the year so October was the perfect month for our wedding. We love the colors and cooler temperatures during this time. Both of us grew up in Richmond Hill, a small community right outside of Savannah. We decided on downtown Savannah for our wedding because of its beauty and history. We knew we wanted an outdoor ceremony and a reception in the same location so the Charles Morris Center at Trustees Garden was the perfect venue. The wedding was a little vintage with a bit of an Asian touch and we wanted it to be fun and a little more laid back.

The ceremony took place outside just before sunset and afterwards our guest enjoyed a delicious southern buffet and dancing indoors. We are so blessed to have wonderful family and friends who helped make our day extra special. They gathered crepe myrtle branches and berries to construct our ceremony arch, cut and polished the cedar slice which served as our cake stand, created beautiful floral arrangements, and made leaves to attach to the apples which served as place cards and parting gifts for our guests. It was a perfect day!

Elegant + Eclectic Farm Wedding Inspiration

If you are in the throws of planning a gorgeous Southern affair, then this shoot photographed by Jess Hunter with design and styling by Martha McIntosh is so up your alley. It pairs eclectic pieces with gorgeous blooms and a beautiful charm that Southern weddings seem to have in abundance. And even if you’re wedding doesn’t have Southern roots, you’re sure to find a little something to love here.

I currently live in Washington state, but grew up in Georgia. This time during my visit home I knew I wanted to put together some inspiration for a Southern wedding-something that would resonate with Southern brides yet have a little different feel to it. This is how this shoot was born. I wanted it to have gorgeous, yet unique florals, along with eclectic elements that you wouldn’t see all the time in the South, while also allowing some traditional Southern elements to shine through. At the same time, I wanted it to be outdoors to have an organic and rustic feel, and the gorgeous farm venue definitely lent those two things which paired great with the elegant and eclectic elements. Southern Vintage helped tremendously with finding the perfect pieces for the shoot-down to a very specific array of tableware-each place setting was different along with the glasses, and chairs. Everything was mismatched-but in a complimentary way to provide visual interest and to keep the eclectic feel. Also, Martha Macintosh decorated one of Southern Vintage’s wagon wheels with greenery which makes a great ceremony or even reception decor piece. The ceremony seating was to die for-a perfect timeless, eclectic blend of old wooden chairs and stately upholstered pieces provides a refreshing option from the same old ceremony seating.

From Tara Guérard Soirée… Few things are more classic and southern than a wedding in the garden. The bride’s parent’s turn of the century Georgian home and it’s surrounding gardens provided the perfect backdrop for the hometown nuptials. The Augusta Symphony Orchestra played Bach and Handel as the five hundred guests took their seats at the ceremony. The family’s silver service was used to present hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour. Servers passed trays of azaleas as a nod to nearby Augusta National Golf Course where the drink is a crowd favorite. Guests dined on Carolina quail, shrimp and grits, beef tenderloin, crab cakes, grilled lamp chops and pan seared scallops. I sought to enhance the garden’s natural beauty using design elements that would traditionally be found in that setting – wrought iron furniture, market umbrellas and black and white awning stripe fabric. Shepherd’s hooks with hanging candles led guests from the cocktail hour to the dance tent and lounge area hidden under a giant live oak. The color palette was based on the blueish-purple hues found in their blooming hydrangeas. In southern fashion, the groomsmen wore white dinner jackets. A six-tier wedding cake, featuring over seventy handmade sugar flowers, was placed in the garden folly at the far end of the property. Bistro lighting kept the main bar lit from above well into the evening. Hot pretzels, the groom’s favorite, and fresh donuts were served late night.

From the Bride… The more and more I know and experience life and love with Couper, the more I am reminded that God intended life to be profound and humbling in the best way. When I was first getting to know Couper, he entirely surpassed the high expectations I had set for someone I could really live life with forever and he continues to do so in our marriage. I always believed it should be that way, but it’s funny how I am still surprised.

Every day. In so many ways he has proven to me that a life worth living is one that is loving well. Couper is real. He is honest and faithful to no end- even at the times when he would seem to have the right to do otherwise. Marriage has humbled and inspired me in that way- getting to learn closely how someone can do life like he does. He is so impressive in how he carries himself. I have loved living with him- cooking, dreaming, singing, working, dancing, building, drinking, traveling, praying, crying, laughing- with him.

Aside from the part where I became wedded to the handsome red-head in the company of friends and family under the beautiful live oaks, my favorite parts of the wedding are ironically not what I had assumed, mostly because they did not go as planned. Because of rain and a loss of power, my dear friend Lydia sung our first dance song with no amplification. Dancing with Couper to the sound of her voice and the rain beating on the tent is something Couper and I will never forget.

The image of friends and family walking around with their shoes off and mud up to their ankles with big smiles on their faces is one that continues to bless the both of us. I remember driving off the island with Couper and watching the sun go down- thinking how the timing of everything- the sun, the rain, the ceremony, the photos, the people, the reception- could not have been more perfect. We are so thankful to be surrounded by people that would celebrate with us joyfully, regardless of the weather.

Rustic, Elegant Mountain Wedding in Big Canoe, Georgia

Amy Arrington ranks high on the top of my list of photographers I wish could follow me around and captured every single moment of my life. And that really takes no justification other than just staring at this stunning set of images.  Because every moment of this elegant mountain fete is frame-worthy to say the very least, and you can see even more right here.

From the Bride…Our wedding was tucked into the mountains of Big Canoe on a stunning fall day in late September. The skies were clear and the temperature was just right. We wanted the day to be surrounded by nature in an informal, but elegant atmosphere. The mountain view and bright sun set a peaceful yet romantic tone for the whole weekend. Family and friends stayed the weekend in neighboring mountain houses just a shuttle’s ride from the ceremony and reception. The first look was truly special. We met at the top of an old wooden bridge in mid afternoon. Amy and Brandon did an incredible job of capturing our overwhelming joy and emotion. The ceremony took place in a lovely chapel with a series of French doors down each side that were opened to provide an “outdoor wedding” feel. The reception was held just down the hill from the Chapel at a venue with a lodge like interior existing of several large fireplaces and a wide, wrap-around deck. A giant oak tree wrapped in twinkle lights spread its branches over the entire patio. There were candles and baby’s breath everywhere. A low stone wall overlooking a beautiful lake and golf course anchored the scene as well as provided a backdrop for the band. A delicious buffet and cocktails were joined by a 6 piece acoustic band to entertain our guests at the reception. As the sun set, the dancing began. It was truly a perfect day. A celebration that could not have been filled more with love and a setting that defined us.

From  Justin DeMutiis Photography… Jade may have single handedly justified my usage of twitter. About two years ago, I tweeted that I was at a business workshop in downtown Atlanta, and later that night Jade and I connected over dinner. Shortly after we met, Jade referred an absolutely incredible ‘southern wedding’ in Athens, GA. It was a bucket list wedding to say the least. More recently, we worked together in one of the most exciting spaces in Midtown Atlanta (soon to be featured on SMP Georgia). Needless to say, Jade Lee Events (formerly Lovelee Affairs) has been the source of two of my favorite weddings to date.

With Jade’s new brand, we wanted to showcase a soft yet vibrant design that is quintessentially Georgia. What is more ‘Georgia’ than peaches! Jade loves film and I love her floral designs, so traveling to ATL for this collaboration was a no brainer! Not only is Jade a super talented floral designer, but her wedding coordination is flawless. She has already accomplished so much in her first 5 years in business, I can’t wait to see what the next 5 years have in store!

The inside of the 132-year-old house featured the cake and food stations for dinner.

Sean and Amanda both teach music so the ceremony and reception were filled with wonderful music both live and recorded.

Classic Burge Plantation Wedding

My favorite thing about the south? The weddings. That southern hospitality all intertwined with lace and elegance and a slow kind of love that only the south has perfected. And the tented reception. There isn’t anything quite like the Southern tented reception (especially when Peachtree Tents & Events is involved). Amy Arrington Photography has filled our hearts with joy and our galleries with sweet love.

Colorful Southern Wedding in Palmetto, Georgia

On the outside this wedding is gorgeous; a seamless blend of color and charm crafted by Gloriosa Design with coordination by A Flawless Event. But once you pull away those pretty layers and really get cozy with this wedding, you’ll see that it has soul. It’s a beautiful dedication to the Bride’s father and a celebration of family and love perfectly documented by Harwell Photography. Click here for more.

From the Bride… Sean and I met through a mutual friend who swore we would love each other – and she was right! We were quickly inseparable, but marriage seemed like something that only grown ups do, and weren’t we just kids? But everyone grows up eventually, and after 5 years together, we were engaged under our favorite tree on our block in Brooklyn.

The engagement came on the cusp of a move to Atlanta. My father was ill and I wanted to spend time with him, helping him at home and with his company. We decided to marry in Georgia since we had relocated down here, and I’m so glad we did. Our wedding weekend at Serenbe was a getaway not only for for our friends and family from New York, but for our loved ones who lived in Georgia. We kicked the weekend off with a welcome party on Friday night by the Inn pool, and we ended with a lovely brunch on the wrap-around porch on Sunday morning.

Serenbe was the only venue we seriously considered – we fell in love with the town immediately, even on the rainy December day that we visited. And we knew that we wanted to marry beneath a beautiful tree like the one we were engaged under. Serenbe had just the tree in the middle of a meadow.

Though we were marrying in a pastoral, idyllic small town, we started our relationship in the biggest city in the US, and we wanted to capture that aesthetic sense as well. We hadn’t suddenly become cowboys since our move – but we knew a beautiful spot when we saw one. So, in terms of the planning, we tried to marry with our graphic, bold, mid-century modern style with the natural, soft setting at Serenbe.

We started with the invites. We worked closely (though cross country!) with our talented letterpress designer, Sara at Constellation & Co. As inspiration, we sent her pictures of the graphic, typographic art we have throughout our home. She came up with the dynamic and bold invite design. Pro tip: We really hit our stride once I provided her with the exact text I wanted on my invites – she was able to take the words “in a field, under the trees, down south” and run with it, typographically. And the color inspiration came from colors we had around our home. We had Constellation & Co create a wedding certificate for us, which all of our guests signed as witnesses to our wedding. (We also used Zazzle to print our custom postage stamps, featuring photoshopped versions of our dog Hank!)

Speaking of colors, I never really settled on a “color scheme.” Though our invites and other paper goods provided pops of color, I didn’t want to limit our colors to two or three. In this case, we worked with Gloriosa Design to come up with a floral design that would work for us, and be seasonally appropriate. Gloriosa created a design scheme that was bold and pop-y, but also fitting with the very natural setting of our venue. They provided rentals that met our mid-century furniture aesthetic with the farmhouse style, including an awesome cream couch that was set in the middle of a field for extra seating during the reception!

My dress was easy. Ever since I’d seen Jenny Packham’s designs on Kate Middleton, I knew I wanted to look feminine and breezy on my wedding day. I purchased Packham’s “Willow” from Kelly’s Closet in Atlanta.

We chose our DJs after attending their monthly dance party in East Atlanta called “Keep On Movin’!” Though our DJS are based in Nashville, they come in once a month with an extensive collection of Motown, Stax, and lots of oldies. Sean and I don’t claim to dance very well so we decided to select entertainment that we loved enough to dance anyway! I walked down the aisle to Dr. Dog’s “Heart It Races” and Sean and I had our first dance to “Excuses” by The Morning Benders.

My dad passed away 7 weeks before the wedding. In the time leading up to his death, we asked ourselves if we wanted to move the date up, have a small ceremony – we didn’t know what we wanted or what he wanted. But my dad was secure with the fact that Sean and I would marry, that we had done our hardest work to create a strong and stable relationship, and he told us that that was enough for him. My mother and brother walked down the aisle with me, and my brother gave a speech in my dad’s stead. He and I even did a dance together, to me and my dad’s song, “I Love You More Today Than Yesterday,” which was a happy surprise for me!

Our friend Jessica Halliburton created a beautiful ceremony for us and we married, yes, in a field, under a tree. It was a dreamy 20 minutes of my life! (Incidentally, we opted not to have a wedding party. Everyone we invited was dear to us in some way or another during our 6 years together – we didn’t want to pick teams! I loved this decision: everyone that wanted to be involved was involved, and there were no hurt feelings.) After our wedding ceremony, Sean and I went off to have a private picnic during cocktail hour: it was nice to get away and catch a few breaths before dinner. Dinner was awesome, by the way. Gloriosa made unbelievable fried chicken, green beans, mac and cheese, prime rib, etc etc etc. For dessert, we had a small cake AND banana pudding AND apple crisp!

As the reception was winding down, we all went outside and let off about 20 lanterns. This was a really neat activity – all of our guests worked together in groups to get their lantern aloft and everyone cheered each time one took off! We went straight in to an enormous bon fire that lasted until the early morning. It was truly an incredible day!

Rustic Vintage-Inspired Wedding

Say what you want, but I’m ready to profess my love for a wedding. I’m not quite sure what put me over the edge… if it was the stunning blooms from Gertie Mae’s Floral Studio, the perfect palette to complement the Georgia fall colors, or the ridiculously perfect love that The Reason was able to capture (pretty sure it was the latter), but I simply adore it!

From the stunning bride… Taylor proposed to me on November 23rd in the church I had always dreamed of getting married in. We celebrated our engagement with friends and family that night in the Clubhouse, where we eventually celebrated our marriage almost a year later. Picking the venue was the easiest part of our wedding planning process, and we couldn’t have been happier with our decision. The Big Canoe Chapel and the Clubhouse at Lake Sconti provided the perfect location for our fall wedding. Since it was a destination wedding for both sides, we were able to make a whole weekend out of it and truly enjoy every moment! The bridal luncheon, rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception all took place in the Big Canoe community.

We both agreed that we wanted our friends and family to walk away from our wedding night thinking, “That was so them.” We aimed to create a romantic and vintage feel, while still keeping it simple and elegant. The overall lodge-like feeling of Big Canoe in addition to the rustic farm tables adorned with burlap and lace runners, barn wood boxes filled with ivory flowers, pillar candles, and a caramel apple favor (something I have wanted for my wedding since I was a little girl!) brought our vision to life. Instead of table numbers, we used letter flashcards from the 1940’s. My grandmother used the same flashcards to teach me how to read when I was little! My incredible stationery designer, Talie from Paisley Papers, made individual letter seating cards to match with each guest’s name to help them find their seat as they walked past Gertie Mae’s stunning floral wreathes to enter the reception. The laurel leaf also became a theme within our reception which stemmed from the beautiful hand drawn laurel on our invitations, also designed by Paisley Papers.

In addition, my dress was something that ended up going hand in hand with my wedding vision. I had seen Modern Trousseau’s “Ainsley” gown on their website, and I fell in love with the vintage lace over the latte colored satin. I thought it would be perfect for a fall wedding. Unfortunately the dress was not sold anywhere in Atlanta, and after trying to settle for other dresses, I drove to Nashville to give it a try. My mom, sister, and I all agreed it was “the one!” I couldn’t wait to put it on on my wedding day, and I love how the look came together with the cathedral length veil and my hair and makeup done by the wonderful Raney O’Keefe. Taylor was against anything involving a bow tie or cummerbund, and therefore we decided on his grey suit and navy tie. The suits eventually inspired the grey in our stationery, which I loved!

We not only desired for our wedding to look like us, but we wanted it to feel like us! One of our biggest goals was good food and a good party. We were not only happy with the outcome, but we were blown away! We were so happy that we decided to do a family style meal because everyone had a chance to sit down and enjoy themselves. The meal consisted of buttermilk fried chicken, prime rib, mashed potatoes, and grilled vegetables (a true southern supper!). The cakes were from a bakery in Athens, Georgia, and we ate cake from that same bakery on our first date together. It was another detail that was true to our story. Everything was delicious, and we still have friends telling us today how good the food was!

As soon as dinner was over, the dancing began. Time flew by as we were surrounded by 200 of our favorite people having an amazing time! Even the waiters and waitresses started dancing, and no one paused until the DJ announced it was time for our grand exit. We left in a dreamy white vintage Mercedes that The Reason captured in some of our favorite photographs from that day! We will treasure the video and photos for a lifetime. We are so glad to have had so many amazing vendors contribute to creating a flawless event and the happiest day!
