When it came time to pick a wedding venue Georgie and Tim wanted something special. A place not only beautiful – trust me, the Amanusa Resort fits that bill – but also somewhere layered with meaning. In a nod to the Bride’s Indonesian roots and desire for a garden party vibe, they settled on a Bali-set wedding designed by Asmara Weddings and captured by Thomas Stewart. See the whole day here.

We wanted to get married in a place that would not just mean something to us on the day but in the future as well. Georgie’s mum is not only Indonesian, but her mum and dad have just moved to Bali. We wanted a garden party style venue and when we saw Amanusa, it was easy decision. Plus, it’s Bali.

Planning the wedding was interesting to say the least! We planned the whole thing from the States, with the exception of a 4 day trip to Bali. During this time, we also changed jobs and moved to the other side of the States 6 months before the wedding. When you are doing so much via email and Internet searches you really have to trust the people you are working with. 

When they tell you the day goes fast, they are not lying. I think we were both quite taken aback on the day. To have so many loved ones there for you and to see this event you have been planning everyday, actually happening, even better than you imagined, it was almost too much. Someone described a wedding day to us as being like a soldier returning home from war. You can do no wrong. It’s your day to be a hero, so stop for a moment and take the whole thing in.

From Thomas Stewart…Georgie and Tim’s wedding was just epic. I’ve never seen a venue as incredible as Amanusa; at night, the reception looked like a scene straight out of a fairy tale. Despite the heat and crazy humidity, and even despite some random lighting problems during speeches, the day was a huge success. I loved Georgie’s incredible Jenny Packham gown which was super elegant; I also loved the venue styling. The Balinese love their styling!

From The Bride…When we got first got engaged, we knew that we wanted to be surrounded by our closest friends and family on the day of our wedding. After careful deliberation, a destination wedding seemed to best fit that bill. When we asked around, everyone said, “Pick somewhere fun!” As native Californians, we both have a deep love for the ocean. Getting married in Bali gave us the chance to start off our marriage with beautiful cliff top views of the ocean surrounded by our amazing families and friends.

We are blessed to have friends and family who share our love of travel; our friends traveled from Boston, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Australia, and Taiwan to share the day with us. We wanted to everyone to feel like they were on a family vacation, so we started the events with a beachside welcome dinner the night before the wedding and hosted a BBQ pool party the day after.

We wanted our guests to feel like they were celebrating in an intimate backyard party and Villa Bayuh Sabbha turned out to be the perfect venue. The decor and outdoor living spaces of the 5-room estate felt homey and uniquely Balinese. The gorgeous grassy cliff overlooking the ocean gave us the perfect only-in-our-dreams location to hold the ceremony.

Even though the international travel made it a bit tricky to add personal touches to the wedding, we managed to bring two suitcases of DIY items, including all the wedding signage and framed family photos. Instead of a formal sit-down dinner, we wanted to pay homage to our Taiwanese roots and had live-cooking stations (one of which featured a full suckling pig!) reminiscent of Asian night markets. I have a personal love of cronuts, so instead of a traditional tiered wedding cake, the guests noshed on cronuts and gelato.

With everything lit in fairy lights and golden votives, the night simply glowed. We had our first dance lit by sparklers held by our guests encircling the dance floor. The love surrounding us was truly tangible and we will never forget that amazing day.

The more I plan my own wedding, the more a destination fete sounds like pure bliss. In all honestly, one destination I’d never considered was Indonesia, maybe because it’s quite a trek for this New England gal. But after seeing this colorful island wedding from 39 East and The Wedding Stylist? I’m convinced that packing up and heading half way around the world, is sooo worth it. From The Wedding Stylist… Vanessa and James held their wedding at Nikoi Island, Indonesia for an intimate 40 guests. They wanted something fun, relaxing and by the seaside. As they were based in London, this doubled up as a mini vacation for their family and friends.

The wedding ceremony was held in the late afternoon and the area was decorated with colorful ribbons, paper lanterns and garlands. The theme was whimsical and the guests had mini rattan fans, handmade flags embossed with fun quips and bags of airplane-shaped confetti which were cut out from old maps to represent their destination wedding.

After the ceremony, guests were ushered to the pool side which overlooked the sea (amazing view!) where they enjoyed a variety of drinks including 2 signature drinks, Groom’s choice and Bride’s choice. Escorts cards were placed inside small bottles to make it look like a message in the bottle and each table had a specific seashell picture as its “table number”.

The reception was decorated with lanterns hanging from the ceiling, ribbons were used as runners and the flowers were bright, happy colors to bring out the whimsical feel. This wedding was not only colorful but very vibrant and fun! Place cards were inserted into wine corks and a green orchid was placed beside it. Kilner jars were also used at the reception to hold the table center pieces as part of the deco and also as a play on the groom’s last name.

After dinner, the couple did their first dance by the beach and straight after, a showcase of fireworks poured into the sky to start the after party!

If there is one thing I’ve learned while working at SMP, it’s that crazy gorgeous weddings happen in Bali. I’m talking weddings held on breathtaking cliff sides with brides and grooms who really, really know how to throw a party.  And this beautiful day captured by Sherise Fleming?  All of the above with an extra side of pretty.  See it all in the full gallery.

From Sherise Fleming Photographer… Anna and Aaron’s wedding in Bali was truly something special. By having a destination wedding they were able to celebrate and holiday with their friends and family while enjoying all that Bali had to offer. They described their wedding theme as Modern Vintage with some Balinese aspects.

The couple were married at the Royal Pita Maha, a one of a kind resort located in the spiritually charged village of Ubud, Bali. Guests were treated to amazing views, fantastic weather and great company. The location was chosen after Anna and Aaron had visited Bali during their engagement period. With the help of their very kind tour guide Mully they searched for something different and beautiful, a place where they could have a holiday with their nearest and dearest and even return to in the future.

Anna and Aaron saw each other before the ceremony so once they were wed they could immediately celebrate with their guests. The groom first saw his bride at the bottom of the resort by the Ayung River. We had decided on this location the day before, as it was truly a wonderful spot that was not only beautiful but intimate and private. The Royal Pita Maha had provide us with some amazing locations for photos. The resort is surrounded by cliffs creating a hidden oasis that boasts beautiful water features, well landscaped gardens and amazing villas.

Their Ceremony took place in a glass chapel that was positioned on the cliff side of the resort. This ensured that all guests had a view of not only the gorgeous couple but the rainforest valley that surrounded them. A cocktail hour followed with signature cocktails and acoustic music played by Anna’s sister and cousin.

Traditional Balinese dancers accompanied by a Balinese band started what would be a very special and unique reception. The couple put on a glorious banquet accompanied by wine from around the world (thanks to their close friend that works in the industry). The night ended as it should with everyone on the dance floor.

A few years ago a girlfriend of mine packed her bags to vacation in Bali. What was supposed to be a two week-long journey quickly turned  into a two year jaunt. WHERE TO EAT? The most amazing meal my wife and I had was at the Le Pirate beach club. Truly the most amazing food in a magical place!

NOT TO MISS? Make sure to hire Bali Green Walks if you really want to see the real Bali with real amazing Bali people. They take you to places you would never dream to find by yourself!

MUST SEE? Nusa Lembongan island on a motorbike ride. It is the most beautiful place I have ever seen in my life.

From the Bride… The love story of Jay & Amy hark back to 2004 when they met each other at Sentosa beach in Singapore. Warm sunshine, soothing sea breeze and the blue ocean as the backdrop of where their paths crossed. 7 years later, destiny finds its way back to these two lovebirds in the isles of Greece. Their craziness about each other overpowered the air around. 5 months later, Jay followed his heart, flew to Singapore and proposed to Amy. Her answer sealed their way to happiness and happily ever after.

Why the theme “Breeze from the Aegean Sea”…We fell in love on the Greek Islands where everything is blue and white there. So we wanted our wedding to reminisce the place where our love blossomed. An intimate affair filled only with the people we love most in a beautiful setting for the perfect, unrushed reunion, there is surely nothing better than to have it on the cliff-top overlooking the Indian Ocean. And to have all the decoration and details in blue and white.

We prepared the wedding one year in advance together with my wedding planner from Tirtha Bridal. They helped us with conceptualizing major items such as flowers, stage and decorations. And for the small details i wanted to DIY myself so that i can keep these crafts and pass it on to my future children such as: ring pillow, unity candles, bridesmaids’ corsages, floral crowns, invitation cards, thank you cards, escort cards, table menu. It was so much fun doing them!

The wedding day turned out to be exactly how i have imagined it for the past year. It was so romantic, enchanting and fairy-tale like. Although we had many friends and family with us that day, we still felt like we were in a bubble of our own. If I could, I wish to re-live that day once more!

Visiting Bali has always been on the tippy top of my bucket list. And this stunner of a wedding? It’s only given me MORE reason to believe making it to there is an absolute must. From the Bride… Kevin and I got married in Bali on 28 Juy 2012. The ceremony took place at breathtaking Tirtha Uluwatu Chapel, followed by wonderful reception at JuMaNa, Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts. At the end of the wedding, and even after many months later, our guests would still talk about our wedding, of how meaningful and impressive the wedding was they deemed it to be the best wedding they have ever attended. Soon, through word of mouth many people approached me and asked me to help them with their wedding, And thus, Flying Bride, a wedding concept & design company was born.

THE LOVE STORY: It all started with a ministry to visit a retirement home. We did not know each other at that time, but a common friend that organized the event introduced us. “It was love at first sight”, professed Kevin. The rest, is history.

THE PROPOSAL: Kevin proposed in Singapore, at the roof top of Marina Bay Sands overviewing the magnificent view of the bay and the city. He knelled down on one knee with a diamond on one hand, and asked me to marry him.

THE WEDDING: Every element we used in the wedding was personalized to incorporate our character and taste. There are stories behind the choice of venue, food, etc. to result in a signature wedding that is very much a reflection of us, and our story.

White wedding was the chosen theme. White exudes purity, holiness, and sacredness that brings forth magical feeling to the atmosphere. Rows of white Orchids were tastefully arranged in tall vases by the chapel aisle, which led to the center stage and the main focal point of the decoration. A transparent altar table was beautifully decorated with an array of white Roses and white Orchids, under the umbrella of hanging honeycombs and flying butterfly ornaments.

We wanted to continue with the white wedding theme at the reception however needed a twist to it. Hence, we added cream and champagne color into the palette to bring the guests to experience a more elegant yet warmer ambiance that would reflect the extravagant food and wine, under an intimate wedding experience. A small stage fully decorated with white drapery, hanging crystal and white roses was especially built for the bridal table. Instead of the typical long table, we opted for an interesting arrangement of a sweetheart table.

Traditional tea ceremony is a ritual that is performed to respect parents and other family member. As tea ceremony is rooted from Chinese culture, we wanted red, gold, dark colored wood and some Chinese elements to be the theme of the decoration. Also, instead of the usual indoor tea ceremony, we made use of the gorgeous Indonesian Ocean as their backdrop. The result was breathtaking.

I sort of knew I was going to adore this wedding the moment I read the darling bride’s sweet description.  I mean, any bride that describes her Big Day as a “Love Wonderland” is pretty much awesome in my book. And her wedding?  Well, it really IS a Love Wonderland with a beyond gorgeous setting (hello Bali) playing host to some crazy awesome stylings, beautiful blooms and a Mr. and Mrs. who are so in love, it’s downright contagious.  See it all captured by Angga Permana right here.

On the morning of our special day we woke to blue skies and the tweeting of the birds throughout the valley, our very own Love Wonderland was to become a reality. All the details were handmade by us and with the help of friends and family the perfect setting we had imagined for so long transformed before our eyes. We created an intimate ceremony in a beautiful and special place surrounded by our most loved and together wrote our vows and made our promises within the arms of the sacred Bodhi tree. As a couple, our commitment of love was the most important part of the day and as the heavens opened and the sun shone down, it couldn’t have been a more magical and perfect moment.

A delicious banquet was served and all enjoyed many laughs and tears over stories of the Bride and Groom as we toasted to love and friendship. After dinner, guests were treated to an amazing Kecak fire dance performed by over 100 men from the local village. Staged under the light of the full moon the atmosphere for all was that of wonder and awe as the story un-folded. Dancing and celebrations continued into the night and wish lanterns were released into the darkness of the sky as many hoped for love and happiness for the years to come.

We produced beautiful handmade tea towels for the guests to take home in memory of their time in Ubud and we feel privileged to have shared such a wonderful and very special moment in time with all who were there. The memories will never fade of our most special of days and thanks to our wonderful photographer we have the moments captured in time forever more. Love is to be cherished each day regardless of the obstacles life may bring.

The Cake Topping- The cake was a simple sponge cake with white icing. The ribbon around the bottom was the same ribbon we used to decorate the bouquets and the Bodhi tree. The decoration on top was some fresh flowers that were the same as the table decoration flowers. The bride and groom statue was given to us by Dallas’ mother and father having been bought in Germany on the announcement of our engagement and there was also a silver shoe on there that had also been on my grandmother’s wedding cake in the 1940’s.

Meaning of Candles – The candles ceremony was to symbolise the joining of 2 souls. 2 candles were lit individually at the beginning of the ceremony to symbolise Dallas and I as 2 separate souls. 1 candle was left un-lit. We then picked up the 2 lit candles and held them together to light the 1 un-lit candle. We then blew out the 2 original candles and held the 1 candle to represent the joing of our 2 souls and becoming 1 soul together.

Head Piece + Jewelery – I made the feather headpiece to match the feather pieces on the dress. It was to hold on the veil, and add some extra decorative touches to the final outfit. My father helped me to stick the comb to the back so it was a joint effort again! I added a diamond vintage brooch to it to bring together the diamond cufflinks and the ring elements. The beautiful gold jewelery I am wearing on my head is made by one of my best friends ‘Tigerframe Jewellery’ and I decided to wear it on the day as I liked the fact it made me feel close to her as I took my final steps as a single woman.

Wedding Dress – I drew it up, designed it and had a wonderful Italian lady make it for me in Brisbane. I hand made the feather details on the hips myself. It is made of silk and chiffon.

Decor + Design Inspiration – ‘A Love Wonderland’ – relaxed, festival vibe with a vintage and creative twist. Sentimental touches such as the photos of family and friends that couldn’t be there made it feel very special. The decor was all handmade by us – using bits and pieces found at the venue on the morning of the wedding.

At the moment we were pronounced husband and wife! We turned around and everyone began to throw fresh rose petals as the Marvin Gaye song “You’re a Wonderful One” started to play. It brings tears to my eyes as I write about it! We had hugs and congratulations from all and it really was wonderful!

Confession time. I’ve been a little bit obsessed with traveling to Bali ever since I saw the movie Eat, Pray, Love. That’s legit, right? From the Bride…Steve and I both are designers based in Jakarta, Indonesia. We always wanted a laid-back and intimate wedding, where people can sit back, relax and have a great time in the party. So we decided to held our wedding reception in Bali. Being a designer, we are very picky interms of decoration details, dresses, food, and especially photography. I remember the first thing I researched and contact after the proposal was wedding photographer. I was lucky that I found Erika through Twitter. I fell in love with her work the first time I saw her blog. I am thankful to met all the dream vendors that I wanted. Each and everyone in the team was professional and very talented. Janice surprises me with her fabulous works. I had a great time working together with her and Karen. Turns out I have my perfect wedding. Something that I always wanted all this time.  A little bit about my wedding dress, I always wanted a simple, elegant and unique dress. I guess I was lucky that Baron from Tenun Baron, which also a dear friend of mine, offers me a one of a kind fabric with his new experimental technique combined  with my custom designed patterns. His fine and delicate silk woven fabric always amazed me. I can say that he is one of the best textile maker in Indonesia. Now finding a right designer is a challenge, and I think Auguste is the one after all. He understand that simplicity is everything. I love the dress fitting and it is perfect. My favorite part of the day was finally seeing all friends and family gather together in such a lovely place sharing our love together. The inspiration for the decoration and theme was rustic vineyard with a twist of chic elegant.

From Paper Diamonds…Lena and Siang were incredible to work with from the very beginning. They were confident in their decisions and they had the most important thing in mind the whole time, that they were marrying each other. It always felt like no matter what happened, it would be perfect just because of that. Thankfully though, everything went without a hitch including custom building many props such as photobooth walls, silk printed table runners & pillow cases, gilded lights (as seen from a reference image from one of Mindy Weiss’ weddings), coordinating transport for over 100 guests and putting together an amazing team of wedding professionals who shone bright on the day.

From the Bride…We always knew we wanted to have a destination wedding. The idea of getting married away from home seemed so romantic and special to us, and we especially loved the idea of all our friends and family getting away for a few days together to not only celebrate our wedding, but to relax and enjoy themselves. We picked Bali because it’s such a magical island with the most breathtaking scenery you can imagine. On a more practical note too, Bali is only a short flight away from our home city, Perth, so it was also very convenient for most of our guests to travel there.

Picking Bali as our destination was one of the best wedding-related decisions we made. We were apprehensive at first, and for much of the wedding planning process, we were concerned that we had made the wrong decision to have a destination wedding and forcing our guests to travel overseas. I think our families were also apprehensive, though they always supported our decision. At the end though, seeing how relaxed and happy everyone was at our wedding, and how in awe they were of the venue, we knew we made the right decision. Our parents already want us to organize another big celebration in Bali for our anniversary! And we picked the Bulgari Resort because we couldn’t get past the amazing views there. Our ceremony venue was perched on a cliff top, and our aisle was a rose-strewn, clear platform floating over an infinity pool. It was spectacular, to say the least.

I’m pretty certain Bali is one of the most gorgeous places in the world to say I do. Unfortunately I’ve never been, but from the looks of these images from Alison Mayfield Studio I think my theory is pretty spot on. Because this couple’s wedding? It’s simply perfection. From the Bride… Shawn and I met when we were working on a project together in Beijing. Since we first met, it has been a wonderful 2 year up until our lovely and fairy tale wedding. Shawn was originally from Shanghai but spent majority of his life in the U.S. and later moved to Hong Kong after business school. While I grew up in Shanghai as well, I spent a significant amount of time studying in London and later working in Hong Kong. We actually lived in the same building while we were in Hong Kong but did not know each other until we met each other in Beijing, the beginning of our magical journey together.

We had many choices for our wedding venue and there were simply too many beautiful and charming places around the world. We knew we wanted a destination wedding at an exotic location where we could share this special moment in our lives with those who are closest to us. With the help of our wedding planner, Tiara Wedding in Hong Kong, we narrowed our wedding venue to the island of Bali. Although neither Shawn nor I have ever set foot in Bali before, we were deeply attracted to Bali because of its exquisite and exotic scenery, rich culture and spirituality, and warm hospitality. On Oct 12, 2012, we held our small and intimate wedding in Bali with our parents and closest relatives. The wedding turned out to be everything we had imagined it to be – it was surreal and time seems to have stood still for the entire wedding. We were truly blessed to have held it on the Island of the God and it was a moment that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Our magical journey together continues!

I’m crossing my fingers and toes that you all haven’t checked out for the weekend just yet because this Bali wedding is deserving of your undivided attention. From Caroline Tran Photography…Natalia and Tata had a gorgeous destination wedding in Bali where they hosted their closest friends and family at the Alila Uluwatu Villas, where their wedding was, and at another nearby local resort.  It was a week of beach time, good food, and good company for all.  People traveled from all over the world to celebrate with them.  They had 3 different ceremonies – a church ceremony, a traditional tea ceremony, and a unity sand ceremony on a beautiful cliff side cabana that floats above the ocean. they also flew in the owner of their favorite juice bar from home to make fresh juices for guests during cocktail hour.  and after the fine dining tasting menu, they had a fresh local fruits bar filled with mangosteen, rambutan, logan, and passion fruit… and then they brought in Naughty Nuri’s for late night snack… the BEST bbq ribs ever! They surprised guests by ending their first dance with pyro.

From the Bride…There are too many favorite moments of the day Here goes… 1. We both do our own vows and we both love how personal this is for us. 2. On our way back to Alila from the church, our wedding car broke down!  Our wedding party had to push us to a safe spot.  We hopped in our wedding party’s van and left the car on the side of the road. 3. I am very close to my dad. And for him to cry is really touching… I love how he surprise us by singing the song that I’ve prepared for our Father-Daughter dance. 4. The speeches and the songs from our friends. 5. Tata never ever wants to sing in public, it’s his thing. Even if we go Karaoke, he will be the one enjoying other people singing instead of singing himself. He took the courage to start our first dance song by singing and by the second verse, he started dancing with me. 6. Our team from the wagyu story is amazing. They helped us so much that some of them missed some moments because they are behind the scene. We can’t thank them enough for all their help in preparing the wedding.

Any advise for other couple: 1. There are a lot of inspirations source online, thus the millions ideas you want for your wedding. Start sorting out your ideas early and make a folder on your computer on what you both want. Nothing is more important than your other half. So do talk with him/her what is best for the both of you, and don’t choose to do “ALL of the above.” I am blessed that Tata is the kind of guy that doesn’t mind getting involved in all the preparation. Both of us are photographers, and we decide to not accept any jobs 3 weeks prior to the wedding, which turns out to be quite a headache. For the 3 weeks, we got so stressed that we ended up feeling down. We talked things through and decide on things that is important for us on the day, rather on the millions of ideas that we wanted.  2. No matter how prepared we are for the day, we have to keep in mind that something might not go according to plan. Don’t let this ruin your day. Let go and trust your vendors, they will take care of it. 3. Download a “to do list” app in your phone (ours is Wunderlist) and it’ll help you keep track of what you need to do. And even though the list is long, just focus on what needs to be done today. Don’t even look at the rest of the list that needs to be done tomorrow. This will keep your stress level down. 4. A “third” person might get in the way, be it your parents, your far uncle or your cousin. Somehow they feel like they wanted to help, but the more they help, the more headache you got. Don’t let this get in between you and your other half. If the “third” person went too far, take the time to talk to them and tell them “Thank you for your kind help but it’ll be better if you help me on this rather than that.”

From the Bride… We have always loved the beauty and magic in Bali and decided to get married there as we wanted to create an outdoor oasis for our guests. We wanted the whole wedding to be outside and we wanted to ensure warm weather, in Melbourne Australia it is hard to ensure warm weather.  We found Villa Mathis which we fell in love with and had a wedding planner from Baliku Weddings. 

The day was relaxed, warm, fun and filled with a strong feeling of love.  All of the staff from Villa Mathis and Baliku Weddings had been to the temples to do blessings for us to ensure happiness and good weather on the day. We felt so blessed to be surrounded by such beautiful kind people as well as 53 family and friends. The wedding ended with us jumping in the pool and all the guests being thrown in after us. The wedding was the best day of our lives.

From Studio Impressions… Angie is from New Zealand and Ben is from Wales. They  live in Singapore but chose their regular holiday destination, Bali, and favourite Villa for their spectacular wedding. Angie & Ben came up with the concepts and theme for their wedding and worked with their wedding planner M & M Innovative Concepts & vendors to turn their concept into a stunning reality.  Angie & Ben personally sourced a lot of the props including the tollix chairs, escort cards, tapes and other decorations.  Vision One Bali put all the wiring for Angie and Ben’s lightbulb idea together.  Angie runs a furniture business that collaborates with artists to modern classic furniture into useable art, so the design concepts behind this wedding were completely reflective of the Bride and Groom and the things they love. All the details meant something.

Friends and family flew in from all over the world to join them on their special day.  Angie’s grandmother couldn’t make it from New Zealand so Angie, keen to include her, took a quiet moment to speak with her just before she walked down the aisle. After the ceremony, guests were treated to a sumptuous feast put together by M & M Innovative Concepts. The food was complimented with cocktails designed specially by the Bride and Groom.  It set the scene for a fabulous party that went well into the night.

One of the many highlights was when Ben’s dad, a Welshman, learned and performed the traditional dance of the New Zealand Maori people, the Haka, in celebration of Angie & Ben coming together. When the Bride & Groom took to the dance floor for their first dance, they chose the Calvin Harris song “Feel So Close.”  When the song changed tempo confetti canons fired into the air and set the scene for a dance party to remember. Dancing continued all night as one of the top DJs in Bali, DJ Stu Bali, collaborated with an electric violinist to perform a wild medley of some of the top dance hits.

From Vicki Grafton Photography… Mary and Jeffrey were married in a cliffside ceremony at Ambar Villa, Semara, in Uluwatu Bali. Their wedding was full of Indonesian touches, such as an Indonesian shadow puppet as part of their centerpieces and figures on their paper products. Other unique touches included a photo booth with a cool vintage bike and other Indonesian cultural props, Batik chair ties for the Mary and Jeff’s chairs, custom figures in Indonesian attire for their cake topper, and ginger roots to attach the rings to for the ring bearers to carry. Not to mention the super cute ring bearers in Filipina shirts called Barong shirts.

The union between Mary and Jeffery was truly and international phenomena. It brought together heritages from Indonesia, the Philippines, Sweden, England, Scotland, Ireland, and France. Their family backgrounds and international travel has given them an appreciation for cultural diversity and this was shown throughout their ceremony with readings from the Bible, and the Koran, and even the Apache blessing. Mary lived in the Philippians as a child and did her law degree in the Netherlands. Jeffrey, while growing up in the US, has also lived in France and in Senegal while in the Peace Corp. before making the move to Indonesia for work. Mary and Jeff now call Indonesia home.

From the Bride… For our wedding, we decided to bring together our culture (Jeff’s background is Irish, Scottish, French, Swedish and my background is Indonesian & Philippiness) and our interests in the environment and nature.

The ring box with roots, the table number made from the wood log and guest place settings on stone were inspired by nature. While, wayang (shadow puppet), Loro Blonyo doll and Batik represented Indonesian Culture.

Wayang was derived from Javanese word for shadow. Wayang is most often associated with the puppet or puppet theater performance. In every wayang performance, the dalang (puppeteer) will tell stories about good and bad things, a lot of philosophy which is influence by Hinduism epic stories. In our wedding, we chose the characters of wayang – Krisna and Shinta (Love story from Ramayana). You can see Krisna & Shinta wayang in our decoration and symbol of Krisna & Shinta in our wedding invitation & save the date.

We also had a Loro Blonyo statues and a Loro Blonyo cake topper. Loro Blonyo can be translated as inseparable couple. Loro Blonyo is representative of family life between husband and wife as a beautiful relationship in harmony.

Batik is heritage of Indonesian culture. Back in the day, Batik was the highest art, because it’s handmade – haute couture and symbol of status. Nowadays, people in Indonesia wears Batik in any occasion. Batik was a part of the chair ties and other aspects of our decoration.The photo booth also represented Indonesian culture with blangkon (Javanese traditional hat), old bike & Batik for guests to use as props.

The ring bearers wore traditional Filipina shirt called Barong – represented Filipina Culture. I wore a white a wedding dress that designed by American Designer, Sophia Tolli. Also, we tailored our wedding liturgy together with our celebrant who is a Quaker priest. In our wedding cereomony, we took readings from the Koran, the Bible as well as our favorite poets (Antoine de Saint Exupery – Little Prince and Kahlil Gilbran – the Prophet). At the end of ceremony, our celebrant gave “the Blessing of the Apaches.”

From the Bride… A random meeting, 12 years ago, in a car park at the age of 16 is where I met Andrew, and we have been together ever since. From the very beginning Andrew was my rock, holding me up as I watched both my parents pass away from cancer. In our twenties, we survived a five-year long-distance relationship as Andrew studied in Adelaide and I studied in Melbourne. At the age of 21, Andrew proposed, saving his Centrelink payments to purchase the ring. After a seven-year engagement, we finally started planning the wedding. We looked at wedding venues in Melbourne but nothing appealed to us. After a lot of debate, we decided on an overseas wedding in Bali. I found a villa online that we loved and also found a wedding planner who organized all my wishes. Ironically, organizing a wedding overseas was incredibly easy and painless. There were a lot of emails back and forth with our planner. We booked the venue and caterers without seeing or tasting a thing; we just crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. We flew in our photographer and DJ because we felt these two aspects were extremely important in the overall success of the day. We knew exactly how we wanted the wedding to look and feel. We wanted a classic, clean wedding with simple designs and a relaxed atmosphere. White was the main color, and we had natural pops of pastels, which we felt would complement the setting well. We wanted the beauty of the venue, our love for each other and our family and friends, and having a great time to be the wow factors and not table arrangements or decorations.

We wanted the ceremony to be the standout of the day. The aisle was covered in tuberoses, lined with beautiful yellow frangipani and red and white rose pomanders. The canopy was draped in chiffon with white flower tassels on each pole. The bridal party consisted of my two sisters and Andrew’s brother, Michael. Michael walked me down the aisle to “Welcome Home” by Radical Face. We wanted the ceremony to be conducted by our family and friends, not a celebrant. Our celebrant had a very small role in the actual ceremony. My best friend opened the ceremony, followed by 11 readings from family and friends that we had chosen that reflected our beliefs on love and marriage. Andrew hand-made 55 ceremony booklets for our guests to allow them to follow the readings as they were read out. Two weeks before the wedding, I was looking through a box of things that my mother had left for me before she died, and I found a note about love on a scrap piece of paper, which we included in the booklets.

We didn’t want a traditional reception. We are both young and like to have fun, and we wanted the reception to reflect this. We wanted all the formal proceedings to be short and over with at the beginning of the night so the dancing could begin. Our first dance was to “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers. Our friend taught us a minute’s worth of steps before our family and friends were invited to join us on the dance floor, and that is where they stayed for the rest of the night. When we sent out our invitations, we asked guests to list three songs that they wanted to dance to on the night, and with their help, we were able to collate songs and give them to our DJ. At midnight, our friends and family joined hands to make an archway, which Andrew and I walked through with a parasol that said “Finally Married” and had Australian beer cans attached to it. We walked to our room on the other side of the villa, changed into our bathers and came running back outside and jumped into the pool with friends. We just didn’t want the night to end. Our wedding reflected us and what we wanted perfectly. I still can’t believe that was MY wedding.

From the Bride… Cam and I got married in magical Bali. We have been together for about 7 years now. Cam took me on our first holiday together to Bali in 2008, and we both fell in love with the magical landscape, from the black sand beaches of Seminyak and the green rice fields in Ubud, to the uninterrupted, cliff-top views of the Indian Ocean at Uluwatu and the beautiful and ever-so-friendly Indonesian people. We knew from that moment that if we were to get married it would be on this indescribable land. We shared the day with 45 of our closest family and friends.

From the Bride… Having been born in Indonesia, raised in Singapore and now living in Australia, we felt the need to return home to celebrate this rebirth as a married couple. Glenn was born in Irian Jaya, the eastern-most state with its beautiful virgin beaches, crystal waters and abundant marine life — a Mecca for underwater photographers. Angelin comes from Palembang in the western corner of this great archipelago. Hence deciding on beautiful Bali in central Java was a symbol of our union between east and west.

We chose the southern most tip of Bali island, Uluwatu, to celebrate this occasion due in part to the calmness of the vast Indian Ocean backed by the serenity of a magnificent sunset. This serves as a symbol of the end of our single hood and beginning of our life as one being. Tirtha Bali was the perfect place for this union. Having an outdoor wedding, we were indeed blessed with the great weather, and most of all, the attendance of our loved ones and close friends. The pictures speak for themselves. It was a celebration in the truest sense, and everyone felt a buzz in the air that night. The location, the time, the setting and the people involved all blended together, giving it a magic as we have never experienced before. And kudos to Tinydot Photography and Simplemotion video, who were able to capture those precious moments for eternity!

From VISIONARI San Francisco… Melissa met Kelvin a few years ago through her sister, Vanessa. What started out as a group of friends hanging out eventually led to a romantic relationship between the two of them. They enjoy traveling together and during their trip to O’ahu last March, Melissa and Kelvin asked Evonne and Darren Wong of VISIONARI San Francisco, who were living in Honolulu at the time, to do a sunset portrait session of them at Ala Moana Beach Park. During the photo session, Kelvin was so caught up in the moment that he spontaneously decided to get down on one knee and asked Melissa to spend the rest of her life with him, even though he didn’t have the ring on him! Needless to say, Melissa said yes, and they celebrated with a lovely dinner at Mariposa at Neiman Marcus!

Bali was where Melissa and Kelvin had their first vacation together and is a favorite destination for both of them. Also, they have both always wanted an outdoorsy wedding near the beach or ocean. Given that most of their family and friends live in Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia, Bali became a natural choice for their destination wedding. The ceremony and reception were held at the breathtaking Khayangan Estate in Uluwatu, which has a 180-degree view of the Indian Ocean. Guests from all over the world – London, Sydney, New York, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia — were in attendance. Melissa wanted the decor to be somewhat formal yet timeless, so she opted for black and white as her wedding colors. Sinly Anfeny of Bali Paradise Wedding did a great job planning the entire wedding weekend, starting with a welcome dinner on the beach on Friday evening, flowing to the wedding day on Saturday and ending with a brunch/pool party on Sunday.
