It’s official – this couple is too cool for school. The high school sweethearts are probably also too cool to refer to things as being “too cool for school”, but that’s neither here nor there. Their photographer, Amy of Betwix Studio, could not have been a better fit for their fabulous personalities, and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego is just a drop dead perfect venue for this duo. I have serious envy for this couple’s coolness, and you can join me in admiring them in the full gallery.

From Amy of Betwixt Studio…Andrea and Paul’s wedding was held in the quaint beachside city of La Jolla, California at The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego overlooking the La Jolla Coves. The bride & groom were married on their 9 year anniversary! These high school sweethearts planned a day that blended both their loves; art and the ocean. As a graphic design artist, Andrea set the tone of the wedding from the handmade invites and vintage postcard save the dates right down to the wedding florals & diy Scrabble cake topper! Paul started the day with a morning surf session with his groomsmen and they all kept it cool throughout the ceremony in black Vans classics and various teal blue-pattern skinny ties and suspenders. Andrea’s bridesmaids choose various black J.Crew dresses and had matching black beads & chain necklaces tied with silk teal ribbon. The bride wore an Amsale gown from the Spring 2010 Collection, adorned with a custom vintage pearl belt.
The guests were transported to the ceremony in an Old Town Trolley where they arrived to Paul’s friends band, Science Fiction, playing their soothing jazz & contemporary music. The aisles were adorned with burlap runners, black wooden boxes of potted succulents and yellow billy balls and staggered vases of candles & dried black beans. Cocktail hour immediately followed the ceremony where a cigar bar enticed the men!
The reception was held inside the Museum in the Axline Court, where an amazing clerestory lantern lit up the ceiling with strips of light while bringing in the natural moonlight from the open spaces. The guests enjoyed a dessert bar filled with cupcakes in 4 flavors, “presidential pralines” (yes, the actual ones given during the Clinton Administration thanks to Sweet Cheeks Baker, Donna who was their pastry chef!), See’s chocolates, coconut macaroons and of course for the bride’s family, a plethora of Italian cookies. Everyone danced the night away after a delicious meal and the evening ended with some fun sparklers right outside the Museum’s entrance!

Hi everyone, thanks for the sweet words. That day was all kinds of perfect & we will never forget it!
Jenn- I designed the thumb print tree and had it printed along with the sign. Check out my blog if you are interested in any print related materials! http://www.alkemydesignstudio.blogspot.com/
Pam- I LOVED my hanger and found the artist who makes them on etsy. She is a gem. They can take up to 8 weeks to design so order early! www.etsy.com/shop/lilafrances
Mollie- I believe I ordered my matchbooks on a sale at WeddingChannel.com. They have everything under the sun there. Especially personalized items. : )

A really beautiful wedding! Thanks for sharing. Any tips on how to do the applique on the wedding invitations? Specifically, how did you attach everything? Thanks!
Gorgeous wedding! Where did the napkins come from?
LOVE the thumbprint tree. Nice unique touch!
Lovely... TOO COOL ;-p (keep up the great job SMP- since I don't drink coffee, THIS is my morning addiction)
wow, really cool details!
Keriann- those were a lot of work, as you can probably imagine! I think they came out beautiful though and were worth it!
I started with an upholstery fabric pattern I liked and cut out a small floret of the design pattern. I glued an ss30 swarovski crystal to the center. The 3 sinamay leaves in the back were placed first to the white cardstock with a strip of extra sticky double-sided tape. Then went the flower, then I inserted the feather with it's tip having a little glue on it. I then folded over the black outter cardstock liner and secured it with the silver brads to REALLY hold it all in. Nothing ever fell off (as far as I know!). Most of my glue/paper materials were from Paper-Source : ) Gem glue holds the best, too.
Hope it helps & good luck : )
I'm trying desperately to find a sweet yellow cardigan like the one this bride wore. To match my bright yellow Seychelles (or yellow polkadot rainboots in case it rains!) Can anyone tell me where the bride (or bridesmaids) sweet little sweaters are from??
THANKS!
Oh my goodness!! The programs are absolutely stunning! Did you make those yourself? Is there a "how to" guide? Love the simplicty and edginess of this wedding- not to mention the colors. LOVE!!

Teal- I loved that mustard green sweater, too! I found that one at Nordstroms, cropped it short and added sparkly buttons. The girls teal cardigans were from Target. Anthropologie has awesome sweaters too so check them out online!
Diane- I know you & thank you! Congrats on your upcoming wedding : ) Let me know if I can be of any help. Seems like we've got the same inspiration... SMP!!
Oh yes, Sarah- the napkins were also from WeddingChannel.com. They always have sales and coupon codes available so if you're looking for anything personalized, that's definitely your spot! Good luck!

Andrea - congrats on such a fun and beautiful wedding!! Did you rent yours, DIY it or buy it online!? Thanks so much for sharing such a beautiful and unique day - congrats again :)
This wedding has every current wedding cliche in it. Mustaches? check. Vans/Converse? check. Succulents? Check. Cupcakes? check. Chalkboard? Check. I do like the cardigans though.
Their wedding is beyond cool: the colors, the cupcakes, the thumbprints, hangers (ingenious idea! loved it!), and the venue of course! I'm sure it was a wonderful, memorable event. It shows in the photos :)
I love the sewn programs and the wedding invitations. They look handmade and are so cute! I can definitely see the little details that made their wedding so special.
This wedding is absolute gorgeosity with a touch of whimsy!

Where did you get that template for the invitations? I am looking for something similar to that and I cannot find anything. I love the design. Everything about your wedding is beautiful!! Great job! And congratulations!!
Wow, I really am inspired by this article! Everything looks so modern and gorgeous!
I know I'm coming across this a little late, but my sister is getting married and loves your invites. Do you happen to remember where you got the upholstery fabric pattern?
