Every now and then, we see a wedding that makes us blush. The kind of blushing you do when you just know that it was so incredibly romantic…so overflowing with total love. And blushing is exactly what we did when we spotted this next little beauty. Held at the absolutely enchanting Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, this wedding will easily make you fall in love all over again and just might make you rethink all of your wedding decisions thus far. With photographs by Studio Castillero, Flowers by Holly Flora and planning by Amber Events it’s a total keeper. Click here to see even more gorgeousness.
I’m from New Jersey and my husband is from Sydney Australia, but since we now call each other home, we couldn’t think of a place we wanted to have our wedding more than where we currently live together….Los Angeles. We chose Calamigos Ranch in Malibu for its utterly perfect natural beauty and decided on a date at the end of August when the weather is still warm, but not too hot and the days are still long, but the golden sunset would glow just in time for our post ceremony pictures
Throughout the planning process, I was a loyal Style Me Pretty reader and thanks to the help of the stunning featured weddings and the oh so handy inspiration board builder at the Style Circle my husband and I were able to craft our perfect wedding. It was a combination of simple elegance and vintage country chic. Flowers were key for our vision and thanks to the incomparable Holly Flora, we were able to create perfect, whimsical tablescapes with wildflowery arrangements in mason jars, tea tins and found glass vessels surrounding mis-matched lanterns and birdcages illuminated by candle-light.
The natural beauty of Calamigos begs not to be fussed with too much, so we chose very simple decoration for our ceremony site….toss petals and a simple chuppah with lots of greenery and white flowering buds. Turning the corner to walk down the aisle and seeing that chuppah for the first time with my soon to be husband standing underneath and the perfect sunlight filtering through the trees was pure magic.
We hunted through flea markets and thrift stores to find unique “found” items to place throughout the venue, such as mis-matched picture frames to hold photographs of our parents from when they were our age and a wooden duck carved from a root who we lovingly named “Fred”. We chose a few DIY projects that we felt added that little “something extra”. We stained oversized clothes pins to hold the table numbers we created from vintage labels and we found a vintage fabric that complimented our florals and used it to wrap the bulletin board we built from a block of wood and some cork for our guest seating chart, propped up on a shabby chic easel from craigslist.
One of our favorite details of the day was its very absence. We chose not to do traditional favors placed at our guests’ seats. Since music is such a huge part of who we are, we identified a charity called the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation that keeps music alive in public schools by donating instruments to underfunded arts programs and made a donation on behalf of our guests. To make this gift more tangible for everyone, we purchased a clarinet and displayed it on our guest book table with a note explaining its significance.
Looking back over the pictures from the oh so talented Studio Castillero and seeing everyone’s smiling faces as they spin around the dance floor singing “I come from a land down under” makes us think back on our day with such joy we know we’ll carry with us for years and years to come.
