Puerto Vallarta Wedding with Handmade Style

All I can say about this next wedding is…beam me up, Scotty. It’s perfection on the beach which is the BEST kind of perfection there is, with this simple and yet totally chic style that I have fallen hard for. Photographed by Jillian Mitchell and styled by Puerto Vallarta based designer Mishka Designs, this wedding is pure bliss. Click here to see lots more details.

This is the wedding of Sara Walker and Nic Santana, styled by a fabulous up and coming wedding designer in Puerto Vallarta, Mishka Designs. Sara sent Mishka this quote for her design description, “Overall, we like earth tones or white with a pop of color. Simplicity, romantic, chic, natural – style , not ornate – style, no sea shells or day of the dead, but like the vibrant colors of Mexican textiles.”

Every piece of design you see was handmade by Mishka and her family (the other half of her business) except for the Star lights. Those she had shipped from Hawaii because it was the only place she could find the exact colors that Sarah wanted! Her husband made all of the wood block table names with the lights in them and her brother-in-law all of the ‘amor’ candle holders. Mishka had wanted traditional Mexican textiles for the pillows, but couldn’t find any within the wedding’s budget so she decided to make her own out of traditional style Mexican dresses that they sell in Vallarta. All of the fans are handmade by Mishka and her team as well. She had the flowers for the bouquet and boutonnieres flown in from Holland and the cake was kind of a fluke. At the last minute there was a decision to put flowers on it and Mishka stepped up. It came out gorgeous!

LOVE...I am a sucker for a beautiful, intimate beach wedding!

To-die-for!! This looks so amazing and lovely. I was a beach bride (altho not in Mexico), and I cannot tell you how hard it is to create a tropical vibe WITHOUT details like seashells, sea glass, and nautical decor. It was totally a challenge and I could never find inspiration boards that showcased what I wanted.

Thrilled to see another wedding featured that highlights beach beauty with bold colors and skips all the typical seaside stuff. BRILLIANT!

What I love most about this is the simplicity. It really made the beautiful things stand out. I'm loving the mod outdoor couches, too! And you can never go wrong with Jillian Mitchell as your photographer...she is exceptional!

  4. Melissa says:

Amazing details... but why no shots of the happy couple?!

  5. I really like the idea of the fans tied to the backs of the chairs. Those could double as programs too!

  6. Rachel says:

I totally agree with April. It is so hard to put together a beach wedding without the cliches! I absolutely love this. And it still has a ton of Mexican style to it!

  7. love the color!!!!!!!!! and so not cliche' amazing!

This is Nic the groom, Mishka did a fantastic job. My wife and I were all about creating a unique experience from the get-go and it started with our invitations and rsvp cards (designed by Letters Lubell http://www.letterslubell.com ). We found Mishka through our planner Kerry, Mishka really got what we were going for and her approach was very professional. I’m not like most grooms and I wanted to be involved, my wife and Mishka included me in the design process (which was cool) and we definitely did not want anything resembling the dead of the dead or sea shells (my family is from Mexico and they never gravitated towards these Hallmark icons). Mishka started her process by getting into the mind and personality of the bride and groom, I thought this was a very important approach to her artistry, like the saying goes “the devil is in the details.” Mishka had me at hello, and when I saw the center piece, she transported me to my childhood, she seamlessly blended an ordinary everyday object (Mexican packaged goods) and took it to the next level making it eco-chic. I would definitely go to my wedding again.

  14. Simply Inspiring!!!

A wonderfully designed Mexico beach wedding!
Jillian's photos capture Mishka's artistry and transport you to the scene.

She is quickly becoming the go-to beach wedding photographer!
