West Virginia Wedding at The Greenbrier from Christian Oth Studio

There are often weddings that appear in our inbox that just seem too perfect to be true. Too beautiful. Too romantic. Too magical. But when we find out that they are indeed as true as can be – they are the type of weddings we jump out of our seats for. This morning we get to see just such a wedding unfold through the devastatingly gorgeous images snapped up by Sue Kessler of Christian Oth Studio. Apparently when you mix a nearly perfect wedding with a talent like Sue, you get a feature where each and every image is frame-worthy, and you can see them all right here.

From the Bride… Julian and I met in March 2010, and after a whirlwind year together, he proposed at the Australian restaurant we met at in New York, The Kingswood, in April 2011. We were a bit all over the place on where to get married. We did an “engagement-moon” in Anguilla and considered a beach wedding. Julian is from Australia, so we thought about a destination wedding there. I am from southern West Virginia and grew up loving the Greenbrier. We both loved the idea of getting married in my home state and having a traditional but fun destination wedding, so we decided the Greenbrier was a perfect fit for us. It is located in a little country town, but when you drive up, you see this gorgeous, stately resort in the middle of the mountains. I kept the ornate quality of the resort in mind with everything we did.

My mother and I put our heart and soul into the welcome bags. She especially wanted to make sure our guests knew how honored we were to have them there. We wanted them to reflect both my Southern upbringing and the fact that Julian is Australian. My good friend Aimee Rudic helped me design the boxes containing several elements: Sweet (cake pops), Southern (homemade corn muffins and jam), Salty (pretzels and snacks), and Sinful (American and Australian chocolates). We gave each guest a bottle of Australian wine from our friend’s vineyard, coupled with water bottles reminding guests to hydrate and an emergency kit filled with essentials.

Throughout the weekend, our guests went white water rafting, golfing, attended the falconry academy, enjoyed the infinity pool in the mountains, rode horses, visited the famous now-declassified bunker — the options were nearly endless with something for everyone. Friday afternoon, my mother hosted a fabulous southern bridesmaids’ luncheon — black and white table striped linens with turquoise napkins, pink peonies, the Greenbrier’s famous chicken salad and peach soup. The men had a groom’s golf outing and lunch at the Greenbrier’s Sporting Club. Friday evening, we had a welcome dinner for all of our guests on the beautiful Old White Golf Course at the Howard’s Creek Lodge. It was a mix of the South and a little bit of Australia. We served a buffet of Southern comfort foods like pulled pork, fried green tomatoes, and cast iron fried chicken. It was a fun and relaxing start to the weekend.

On Saturday, we had a traditional Southern celebration. The first time I saw Julian was a moment I will never forget — he looked so handsome in his tux! I carried white peonies, and attached to my bouquet were my something old and blue — vintage cameos that belonged to both of my grandmothers. We did one of our portraits in the historic Victorian Writing Room. We held the ceremony on the resort’s Presidential Lawn. My father gave me away, and my uncle married us. We wanted to make the day fun for everyone, so we served champagne and lemonade pre-ceremony and kept the celebration going with a cocktail hour on the Spring Room terrace with a jazz band, followed by the formal reception in the ballroom. It was a dance party from start to finish, complete with a Michael Jackson moves contest between one of our guests and the lead singer of the band. Chicken biscuits were served at the end of the night. Recently, the Greenbrier added a casino to the resort — very 007. Our guests ended their night (and every night!) having a ball there. It was a perfect weekend.

Summer Wedding In West Virginia From Atrendy Wedding

Planning a summertime wedding with an outdoor reception would be a daunting task to many. Downright impossible in some parts of the country. But for this couple, it was literally a dream come true. The fact that their family has property in West Virginia, there’s a quaint little white church right down the road, and they had the wedding planning expertise of the lovely ladies at Atrendy Wedding in their back pocket .. it pretty much becomes a piece of cake! Ummm, or rather, a-piece-of-home-made pie. Kelsey Thompson’s images capture the many settings throughout the day – to perfection. See the full set in our gallery.

From Anne at ATrendy WeddingEmily & Andrew’s daydream-worthy wedding will always be a favorite of mine. Set in quiet Baker, West Virginia, the family’s property was the perfect location for this one-of-a-kind event. We were fortunate enough to have unusually perfect weather in the midst of August which allowed the guests to fully enjoy breathtaking outdoor space. The day started with a horse-drawn carriage ride for Emily & Andrew to a little white chapel. After the ceremony and during the cocktail hour, guests mingled in the front lawn of the family home while the banjo-playing bluegrass band sang nearby. A quick ding of the cowbell (courtesy of Emily’s father!), guests were ushered into the stunning tent lit by hanging candles and accented with gorgeous & lush flowers. The band played for hours and guests were treated to late night slices of homemade pie and ice cream cones.

While designing this wedding, our focus was to have an elegant, approachable summer soiree in the country. The palette of deep lilac & light purple with hints of soft green was refreshing and welcoming and complimented the natural setting perfectly. I must say, the most unique aspect of the weekend was location, location, location! The bride’s family has deep roots in Baker, WV and that history was truly felt throughout Emily & Andrew’s special day. As planners, we try our best to create the most perfect day for our brides & grooms and we often times go to great lengths to bring in beauty to blank spaces. I feel like I got lucky with this one – the beauty of her family’s property was the perfect backdrop.

Vintage Wedding by Justin and Mary, III

I knew you guys would go bananas over this wedding. The wedding itself is gorgeous…but really, with this one, it’s all about the bride. She is insanely gorgeous and will no doubt inspire a ton of you to add a little bit of vintage beauty to your wedding style! And there is no one better to have photographed her than Justin and Mary Marantz. They captured that sweet, demure fierceness that I have fallen totally in love with.

And if you love them as much as I do, make sure to vote for the Marantz’s to with Top Knots on PDN Mag’s current contest!

From the bride…

For our escort cards, I purchased various peacock, 1950s and complementary themed postcards from the Etsy sellers listed above. I then used my home printer to print the name of the guest and table number onto labels by Martha Stewart. The labels were fixed to the postcards and framed in simple frames purchased from a chain store. I asked Colleen of rockabillybebe (Etsy seller) to design the table numbers to match some of the escort cards. I loved the 1950s vibe and the contrasting colors of the card against the rest of the reception decor. She was a pleasure to work with!

justin and mary marantz

The bride took a relatively simple, traditional invitation design and added a single peacock feature to each tied together with a white ribbon. SUCH an incredible way to add a bit of glamour to your paper suite without spending a fortune!

Vintage Wedding by Justin and Mary, II

Justin and Mary are the best. That’s just the only way I can think to properly introduce them. They are loved by photographers and brides alike (and bloggers, of course) so when I get to feature one of their picture perfect weddings on SMP, I always get a little more excited than usual. Which says a lot seeing that I am always “jumping for joy” or “squeeling with glee.” And this wedding just happens to be about as good as it gets.

justin and mary marantz

The wedding was held at the Fisher Chapel United Methodist Church in Romance, West Virginia with a reception following at the Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences. The bride rocked an adorable tea length gown and had each of her bridesmaids wear a different peacock accent…a necklace, a headpiece and a belt. The brides headpand was inspired by Castle Bride couture by Kristin Fox Vintage and the veil was purchased on Ebay.

So much more goodness coming up from Justin and Mary Marantz in just a bit!

Vintage Wedding by Justin and Mary, I

I gave you a little sneak peek of this gorgeous wedding earlier today, but it’s time to get to the really good stuff. I first saw this wedding while shooting a From Inspiration to Reality feature with Justin and Mary Marantz. All of the vendors stood around the camera gushing and gushing and gushing about this stunning bride and her amazing sense of style. I basically begged to feature it on SMP and I am so happy that we finally get to do just that!

From Justin and Mary

The wedding was actually in Romance, WV! I know….it doesn’t get any better than that. The theme was an Audrey Hepburn/Going to the Chapel type of wedding. Rachel’s dress looked entirely different when she bought it, and she had a tailor chop about four feet off of it, take it apart and put it all back together again to make it the incredible tea length one she ended up with!

justin and mary 3

Rachel actually wore two pairs of shoes that day: some insanely fierce vintage Christian Louboutins for the ceremony and some sassy red Kate Spade’s for the reception. The jewelry for the whole shebang was from Tiffany’s. Terry also sent over a HUGE Tiffany’s amethyst ring that morning for Rachel to wear as her something new. Terry’s band had to be specially made for him because he broke his knuckle when he was younger. So they came up with this James Bond worthy hinge ring with a secret release. It’s the only one like it in the world and had to be rushed in the day before the wedding!

justin and mary

SO freaking gorgeous it’s almost hard to believe. We have some incredible details coming up next, along with a full vendor and source list so that you can start booking right away!

Vintage Wedding by Justin and Mary Marantz

We are putting the finishing touches on today’s featured wedding, and are running just a touch late, but I wanted to share with you the one, absolutely breathtaking shot that literally made me jump up and down like a 10 year old who just spotted the most perfect Christmas present ever. For anyone that loves Audrey Hepburn, you might need to brace yourselves…ns
