The bold, modern floral print is not only a gorgeous statement piece on its own, but it also provides the perfect balance to the Bride-to-be’s boho look, with her Stone Cold Fox gown and hand-tied, garden rose bouquet by Janna Brown Design. From Janna Brown DesignNashville lifestyle blogger and Bride-to-be, Hunter Schleicher, is the epitome of southern beauty. A Family-Focused Wedding Planned in 3 Months

Andrew and Billy’s wedding planning story is one filled with unwavering hope, the importance of family, and a remarkable amount of love. Due to Billy’s mother’s health, they planned their Tennessee nuptials in just a few short months, and the special day included a tribute to love even in the midst of incredible loss. Ryon:Lockhart Photography captured each moment with such grace and we invite you to see even more in the gallery.

From Andrew… As I think back on our first date at a small wine bar in Los Angeles, I’m not entirely sure what it was that made me fall for Billy so instantaneously on that warm June night. Maybe it was his sea blue eyes and dimples, maybe it was the fact that he was an even more avid lover of 90’s country music than I, or maybe it was our shared choice of a career in nursing. Or maybe it was just the wine. Whatever it was, Billy and I knew there was something pretty incredible between us right from the start.

After just eight months of dating, Billy and I made the decision to make a cross-country move from Pasadena, CA to his hometown in rural Kentucky to live with and help take care of his mom, who was fighting stage IV breast cancer. Unbeknownst to Billy, it was just two days before we packed up the car and headed east that I snuck away to buy rings from a local jewelry store in Pasadena (which I promptly stowed away in the spare tire compartment of my car in a paper bag labeled “lug nuts” – Billy is notorious for accidentally spoiling surprises, so I felt the need to take extra precautions with this one). As Billy’s mom’s health began declining at a more accelerated rate, I moved my planned proposal forward a few months and we dove headfirst into wedding planning almost immediately.

Just a two-hour drive away, Billy and I took weekend trips into Nashville fairly frequently during our time living in southern Kentucky. With an incredible food scene, some of the best breweries and bars in the south, and the best live music in the country, we quickly settled on Nashville as the location for our destination wedding. As our wedding research began, Billy and I knew that we both wanted our wedding to have a country, rustic feel to it. Through an hour or two of online research, we stumbled upon our dream venue: Homestead Manor. Situated about 40 minutes outside of Nashville in a Civil War era manor, Homestead Manor features an on-site, farm-to- table restaurant, an incredible cocktail lounge, a climate-controlled barn for events, and the most delightful event staff a couple could ever hope to work with.

Homestead was the first and only venue we visited, and we booked them immediately. On that same weekend trip to Nashville, Billy and I wandered over to The White Orchid floral design boutique and didn’t hesitate in booking Jerry and Michael as our florists. Since our venue conveniently offered catering from their absolutely delicious, farm-to- table restaurant, we were able to check another important vendor off our list! Next, we turned our focus to finding the perfect photographer. I grew up just one house away from Sarah Lockhart, where she and her sister Andrea served as my parents’ go-to babysitters for as long as I can remember. With Billy’s mom’s health in mind, we left ourselves just three months to plan our entire wedding. With this short of notice, I was certain Sarah and her husband Tim would be booked but I decided to shoot off an e-mail anyway.

Being the absolutely incredible and selfless people they are, Sarah and Tim agreed to fly into Nashville on the morning of our wedding after shooting a wedding in NYC the night before! We were ecstatic. And, sure enough, the photos Sarah and Tim captured during our wedding left us speechless. Our wedding photos perfectly and beautifully captured the happiest day of my and Billy’s lives.

After our move from a bustling suburb of Los Angeles to a rural and remote town in Kentucky, Billy and I found ourselves with a lot of spare time on our hands. We used much of this time to hand-make a lot of the décor for our big day. We designed and constructed the program fans that sat on each guests chair as well as the flower holders that lined the aisle, we repurposed old barn wood into various signs that we then painted and situated around the venue, and we took a stab at some basic carpentry to build three different lawn games for our guests to play during our cocktail hour. The time Billy and I spent together planning and creating pieces that we used in our wedding was an absolute blast and helped keep the cost of our decorations at a minimum.

Now for the part of our story where fairy tale and real life collide head first. Unfortunately, Billy’s mom did not make it to our wedding day. After a years-long battle with breast cancer, she passed away two weeks to the day before our wedding. One of our favorite personal touches in our wedding was the bouquet that Jerry and Michael made for Billy to lay on the seat that we had reserved for his mom: it was comprised of beautiful pastel yellow roses, vibrant bright craspedia, and a single pink rose to symbolize her fight against breast cancer. While the absence of Billy’s mom was palpable on our wedding day, the love and joy that surrounded us on that day made it feel as though she was a part of it all. Billy and I walked away from our wedding hand-in-hand through a path lined with friends and family, their faces aglow with the light of their sparklers. This unwavering love, support, and light surrounding us has yet to fade and will always illuminate each and every step we take together as husbands.

This Bridal Shoot Takes Greenery to the Next Level

There’s no denying greenery is having a major moment and finding its way into more weddings than we could ever count. But when you see just how stunning natural greens can be – from table runners to aisle decor to stationery motifs, cakes, bouquets, and more – it’s pretty easy to see why 2017 brides can’t get enough. *Enter* this inspiration shoot designed by the creative masterminds at Cedarwood Weddings with stationery by Design in Paper. It brings all our green-driven dreams to life, and the fabulous Julie Paisley snapped up every second.

Inspired by vintage drawings of botanical wreaths, our team used layers of natural vines and honeysuckle foraged from our historic estate to bring a magical, botanical feel to this garden wedding inspiration. Delicate and organic touches permeate event decor, with the addition of a few vintage touches like cloches, candlesticks, an aptly titled vintage novel, and a whimsical butterfly or two. The setting and styling are anchored in fresh green hues and pastel buds that make spring such a special season for weddings at our Nashville estate venue.

The timeless elegance of Historic Cedarwood encourages a blend old and new, for the ultimate Southern garden party. An elegantly understated tablescape using cool gray and dusty green hues is complimented by a loosely designed tabletop garland and soft, neutral florals for a modern garden aesthetic. The ceremony altar is crowned by a fresh green wreath and chair backs are connected by a fresh green garland to mimic the wreath motif. An ivy and honeysuckle illustrated botanical paper suite by Designs in Paper and a vine-entwined cake added cohesive detail to the organic, botanical wedding design.

We love the muted ivory tones of the bride’s tulle and lace gown by Hayley Paige from The Dress Theory. The bride (a wedding hair and makeup artist) did her hair in a wispy pull-up that looks as soft and natural as the setting. Her free form bouquet bursts with natural foliage and pops of garden roses, wrapped with the natural twining vine. The entire day was a wonderful collaboration with photographer Julie Paisley and the Cedarwood Weddings event team and vendors.

Untamed Southern Beauty at This Bridal Inspiration Session

What happens when you combine a fashion blogger bride-to-be, a rich, leafy bouquet by Janna Brown Design Co., and Draper Gray Photography at the golden hour? Bridal session magic. From the Bride’s soft waves and and perfectly undone braid to her hand beaded, Rue de Seine gown, to her dewy beauty look (done by her mother aka Carrie Underwood’s personal makeup artist!), we’re in love with this romantic look.

From Janna Brown Design Co.We were delighted to create a pre-wedding bridal shoot for the lovely Hunter Shcleicher, a fashion blogger out of Nashville, Tennessee. Jess, of Draper Gray Photography, aimed to catch the golden hour, and it quite literally set these images aglow. Hunter donned a Rue de Seine gown from The Dress Theory Nashville, complete with hand beaded details. I created lush florals, brimming with cream and burgundy tones, which paired perfectly with the calligraphed details by Julie Ha Calligraphy. Cali Jeffries, of Parlour 3 in Nashville, perfected Hunter’s golden locks with a twisted braid of untamed goodness, full of texture and volume. We’re sure this style will be pinned a time or two! Melissa Schleicher, Hunter’s mother (who also happens to be Carrie Underwood’s personal makeup artist), achieved a dewy glow, the perfect look for an outdoor southern wedding. From Hunter’s rings to her nail polish, we’re smitten with this girl’s style!

Pretty French Blue Engagement Session in Nashville

Today isn’t an average Friday around SMP. Today is a pretty filled celebration of love with one special couple – Katie and Ryan – at the center. These two hired the dream team of Jacin Fitzgerald and Ryan Ray for their East-Meets-West-Coast Southern Wedding and we’re diving into all the events leading up to “I do.” First up – their darling engagement session set in Nashville. Get to know this sweet duo and sit tight for their clambake welcome dinner up next!

From the planner, Jacin FitzgeraldKatie and Ryan were a match in wedding planner/client heaven. Katie is from Cape Cod and Ryan is from San Francisco and they planned to marry in the South. I’m from New England, lived in San Francisco, and had recently relocated to the South when Katie reached out to inquire about my availability. From our very first phone call, I knew these two were special and I couldn’t wait to work with them over their extended engagement.

From their New England meets San Francisco in the South “Clam Bake” welcome dinner to their French Country-inspired wedding day, a nod to travels taken in their favorite place, we wanted to work together to really weave their story through the details without getting too kitschy or cute.

Subtle details were included to really make all of their guests feel welcomed and appreciated while exuding Katie + Ryan’s personalities to a T. Ryan Ray perfectly captured everything from their engagement session to their wedding weekend and we are so excited to share these photos with you today.

The Cutest Picnic-Style Wedding We’ve Ever Seen

Shannon and Tom currently call Brooklyn home but knew they wanted to escape the city for their Big Day. They opted for a casual, picnic-style celebration, and a working farm outside of Nashville was the perfect spot for them. Filled with bright and cheery florals, they brought a touch of whimsy to their rustic setting and Cassidy Carson didn’t miss a beat.

From Modern Vintage… Shannon and Tom are a sweet, sweet couple who live in Brooklyn but were getting married in Nashville. Shannon and Tom truly respect one another and really took into consideration each other’s opinions during the planning process. They laugh a lot and love each other deeply. Shannon and Tom’s venue is a working farm with a lot of gorgeous landscape and character.

They wanted to throw a party that was laid-back and fun with a lot of colors and a lot of dancing! Shannon and Tom know exactly what they like and truly wanted their guests, many of which were traveling from out of town, to have a great experience and a great time. The food and beverage were really important to them so they put an emphasis on a fun menu and local beverages. They had a welcome party the night all the guests arrived and transported them to and from the wedding ceremony and reception the next day.

When it came to the design Shannon and Tom wanted something with a really colorful with a fun, indie-vintage and eclectic feel. They both have great style and great taste so picking out elements for the wedding was really fun. It was a fun departure from the muted colors we see frequently. They had a wide range of colors from yellow to green to pops of pink with bright red being the main emphasis. Shannon’s bridesmaid’s dresses were fun, with one being red and the other having a great floral print. For the ceremony, we utilized the venue’s wood arbor and brought in really fun vintage rugs then paired them with whimsical and bright flowers. They had a bluegrass string band perform the ceremony music. Tom was all smiles as he went down the aisle as was Shannon who was escorted by her mom and her dad. Her stepfather married them in a truly heartfelt and funny ceremony. Did I mention that their music choices were pretty amazing as well? They had songs from The Darkness to The Beatles and Hall and Oates.

We played on the rustic (but air conditioned) barn where their reception was held and paired neutral linens with red and white checked napkins and bright pops of colors from flowers in milk glass vases. We worked closely with Shannon and Tom and the florist to bring in the perfect flowers including amazing red anemones. The dance floor was lit by drop Edison bulbs (I personally can’t get enough of those) and a local indie station DJ kept the dance floor going! The reception had a local menu with food cooked on site, a pie bar, ice cream from Jeni’s ice cream truck and lots of dancing! They had so many thought out, meaningful details from their Instax photo guestbook to their Quinn’s popcorn favors but more importantly, there were so many moments with family and friends who were there to celebrate Shannon and Tom.

A Franklin, Tennessee Love Affair Set Al Fresco

If you’re in need of a little wedding eye candy, this lovely wedding planned by Big Events, Inc. AND this luscious bouquet, also designed by Big Events, Inc. will do just the trick. It’s the perfect way to kick off this Tennessee love affair set al fresco, and Rachel Moore photographed the fun from start to finish.

From event planner Molly Sohr of Big Events … The first time I met with Carli and Alex I knew we would have the best time planning their wedding day. Carli, having been in dozens of weddings in the past, knew exactly what she did and did not want. A HUGE elaborate wedding was the main item she did not want.

Early on in the process, Carli wanted the wedding to feel exactly like “them” as a couple. She wanted guests to experience a non-traditional, exciting, unique day that was just plain fun.

They chose Carnton Plantation via photos online and when they finally went out and saw the venue they knew they had made the right decision. Choosing a May date was the perfect time at Carnton because the garden was in full bloom. The goal vision of their day was for it to be laid back, incorporate their favorite items and keep it intimate.

Carli’s bouquet was by far my most favorite I have ever seen. I LOVED that she wasn’t afraid to use bright colors, we even used some of her peonies from her garden at home to give a personal touch. They wanted everything to be outside- and weather surely permitted, it was the most beautiful day of spring in 2016. For their reception layout they chose open seating at long farm tables topped with seeded eucalyptus garland with pops of color + lemons tucked in (Carli’s favorite color is yellow) all while dining on “brunch for dinner” concept (which included an omelet bar + mimosas!) under the Tennessee sky. After dinner the guests danced the night away to local jam band Magnolia Sons (Carli + Alex’s favorite band).

The entire day was unique to them, extremely fun and just perfect even down to the weather.

FIVE: AS THE MOST ADORABLE RING BEARER IN THE WORLD

Your nephew is definitely a cutie, but you know what’s even cuter? Having that sweet little guy walk your adorable pooch down the aisle. It’s a double dose of sweetness that will make your entire day. We promise.

Rustic Romance Abounds With This Wedding Day Inspo

We hung out with some boho bridesmaids, had a romantic romp with these lovebirds and kept it simple and chic with this bridal shoot. And now, last but not least, is Jeremy Chou’s Tuscan inspired shoot from The Process Workshop. Rustic and intimate, this shoot captures a couple in love and the beautiful tablescape created by Cedarwood Weddings where they’ll toast to their happily ever after. But enough text – head to our Vault to see the good stuff!

From Jeremy ChouAs fresh and natural as Italian vineyards along the hills of Tuscany, the Cedarwood Weddings design team combined sophisticated and refined alfresco elements to create a dream destination wedding style in Nashville, TN. Bringing together sunny golden hues in peach, apricot, and butterscotch, the rich colored flowers and natural elements are sure to induce a daydream of sun-drenched meadows and rolling hills.

Clean lines reminiscent of vineyard vines in rows inspired simple but luxe table settings with modern gold flatware and pale green linen napkins contrasted by warm wood and tattered edge seating assignments tucked into the forks. Aged Tuscan urns act as statement bases to both the lush asymmetrical centerpiece and natural arch ceremony altar covered in foraged vines and sunny peach and apricot flowers.

The bride perfectly complements the overall aesthetic with a sophisticated long sleeve lace gown, sleek ponytail, and an unstructured bouquet of airy sunny tones finished off with hand dyed silk apricot ribbon from Honey Silk & Co.

A paper suite from Designs in Paper showcases vintage romance with gold foil details, hand torn edges, and a modern monogram gracing the envelope liner. To complete the look, a combed buttercream cake from Patty Cakes atop of gilded base and finished off with vines and blooms.

Simplicity + Sophistication Come Together In Style

There’s beauty in simplicity; we hear it time and time again. But well, some cliches are popular for a reason and this shoot proves just that. It’s Day 2 of our Process Workshop deep dive and this morning we have a styled shoot courtesy of Michael and Carina Photography. With Cedarwood Weddings once again making magic, it’s a treat for tired eyes. See every pretty pic in our Vault right this way!

From Michael and CarinaBeauty is often found in simplicity and inspired by Historic Ceadrwood’s grounds aged stone walkways and rolling meadows, the design team embraces refined natural beauty in a sophisticated palette of slate, white and greenery. A community style table set against the venue’s front hedge is lined with clear acrylic chairs and draped in grey linens. A graceful hand made foliage garland drapes off the table as a nod to the lush green surroundings found on this historic Southern estate. Pure and simple settings selected to focus on clean lines and natural beauty, accented by sophisticated white sage sprigs.

Cedarwood’s historic Southern front porch draped in greenery vines is the perfect clean backdrop for the bride’s portrait session. She is the epitome of refined beauty in her sleek, sophisticated silk gown and romantic updo.

Repeating the clean palette, an invitation suite from Designs in Paper in shades of grey is styled for photos using only simple white petals and glass atop grassy ground. To complete the style a simple single tier cake by Patty Cakes was accented with delicate dusty greens and a pure glass base.

And leading the pack? The unstoppable Julie Paisley. The amount of beauty that was captured there is hard to believe so we’re spending the next two days diving in – kicking it all off is Julie with her boho bridesmaids and some pretty funky, fabulous colors. See it all right this way (and stay tuned for more Process Workshop pretties to come)!

From Julie PaisleyThe initial excitement kicking off a bride’s wedding day is the joy of getting ready, and we think it should be especially memorable! Inspired by the fun and excitement shared by a bride and her best friends, the Cedarwood Weddings team designed a dream boho bridesmaids bash set in an outdoor living room with vintage airstream backdrop!

A vibrant color scheme of tangerine, burnt red, buttercup, and blackberry accented with romantic bohemian gowns were the perfect complement to rustic hipster décor. A drink station of blackberry bubbly, crushed berry compote and brie, and a funky leather ottoman lounge provided a playful location for free-spirited fun!

The bride rocked a Rue de Seine macramé gown and steal-worthy booties completed with a bright and bold flower crown and texture filled bouquet of roses, pin cushion proteas, ranunculus, scabiosa, sunflower centers, and greenery. Bridesmaids repeating the flower crowns wore dusty purple gowns from Bella Bridesmaids and carried bouquets of pin cushion proteas and mismatched hand dyed silk ribbon from Honey Silk & Co.

A paper suite by Designs in Paper, just as individual and trend setting, included custom watercolor design and rose gold foil inspired by the vibrant and funky floral combinations of the day.

From Julie PaisleyToni and Dennis didn’t want the normal NYC wedding. Even though they call it home, they knew they wanted something different. They decided on a Nashville destination wedding and I’m so glad they chose me for their wedding photographer.

Their wedding had the most perfect boho vibe. Toni’s Daughers of Simone dress set the mood and the styling by Cedarwood Weddings was on par. Their love of family and friends was evident all day and it was a joy to be their photographer. My favorite part of the day was the sunset pictures with the bride and groom. Toni loves the sun-lit images and I’m so thankful the sun made an appearance during their formals. My photographer heart was super happy!

How To Throw a Wedding with Sophisticated Southern Charm

If I had gotten married in the South, I would envision my day to look something like this… layered with elegance, charm, richness and intimacy. To me, that embodies everything a Southern wedding should be, and RMBO Collective, Petal and Pine and Julie Paisley nailed it with this slice of inspiration. What’s your favorite detail? Let us know in the comments below!

From RMBO CollectiveAs a Los Angeles-focused wedding planner and designer for the past 6 years (formerly the co-owner/creative director at GATHER Events), I have gotten to know my LA turf rather well. As I step into my exciting new solo event planning and design venture, RMBO Collective, I am focused on traveling outside my home base and partnering up with the greater special event community across the country. There is so much talent out there!

On a recent visit to Nashville, I was struck by the dynamic of this beautiful southern city—rich in history and tradition, but with a clear eye on modern sophistication. Half expecting to see a honky tonk on every corner, instead I found sleekly designed restaurants, gorgeous coffee houses and modern event venues that would rival any larger city.

Inspired by the contrast of the city, we created a modern, sophisticated take on southern charm. Julie Paisley Photography beautifully captured the aesthetic we were envisioning. With a focus on stark and sophisticated black and white, we added a hint of warm hues of blush and Potter’s Clay, one of Pantone’s hot colors for Fall. Metallic gold details were peppered throughout.

The Cordelle, built in the late 1800s, created the perfect backdrop for our shoot. Located in the heart of bustling Nashville, its exposed brick and 100 year old Hackberry trees tell the story of bygone days. 12th table’s eclectic modern furnishings bring the ceremony, dinner table and lounge spaces into an of-the-moment aesthetic.

Petal and Pine’s abundant textured arrangements feel fresh, organic and unfussy. The modern design and calligraphy of Hew + Co’s paper goods were punctuated with a curated collection of vintage stamps from Verde Studio.

Real-life couple Angela and Rico relived their wedding day as our models. Can’t you just feel the love between them? Our bride stunned in a beaded Bo and Luca gown provided by the incredible Nashville bridal boutique, The Dress Theory. Locks By Leslie created a natural but glamorous hair and makeup look. Rico dazzled in a sleek ensemble from The Black Tux.

Aperitif Events & Cocktails created gorgeous, colorful libations. This one (in the champagne coupe) is a recipe of light rum, lemon juice, rosewater thyme simple syrup, fig puree, muddled raspberry, cyan and egg whites. It’s a perfect fall color in the prettiest shade of pink. Cheers to Nashville!

From Julie Paisley It is always a joy when a planner contacts me to shoot an editorial, especially when it’s at one of my favorite venues in Nashville. I loved this shoot, being able to work with some of my favorite Nashville vendors and connecting with new ones is always a treat. I also loved working with our real couple, Angela and Rico they were amazing!
