Sweet + Stylish Backyard Wedding – Complete with Cowbells!

These two approached wedding planning with a goal in mind: prioritize what’s most important and don’t stress the rest. But that doesn’t mean they let the cutie factor fall by the wayside. From cowbells to ring after the “I do’s” to whiskey bars and fruit tarts, this backyard bash was filled with personal touches galore. Lauren Fair captured them all and we’re loving on all day long – more this way!

From the Bride… Anyone who has attempted to plan a wedding knows that it is beyond intimidating and completely overwhelming. In an effort to prioritize, Michael and I sat down together and came up with the most important things that we wanted from our wedding, no matter what. This list saved us when it came to tough decisions that almost always revolved around money. We could look at this list and decide together that no, the more expensive chairs wouldn’t make our ceremony better, or no, the extra flowers weren’t as important as the ridiculously good band. This list helped save our sanity in the overflow of choices that is wedding planning.

Here was our list:
Involve as much family as possible
Make a big wedding feel tiny, personal and special
Have really, really good music
Spend the extra money on a fabulous photographer and videographer
Stick to the budget (we failed)
Spend time on the ceremony, it’s what the entire day is for

Family & Friends: I was given the advice early on that there are only two times in your life when you can have all of your favorite people in the world in the same place: at your wedding, and at your funeral. Since I don’t plan on being around for the latter, we knew that revolving this event around our loved ones, and including them in every way possible, was going to be what made our wedding feel so special.

My cousin played the ceremony music, a different cousin made our tiny sweet wedding cake, our aunts did the flowers, my great Uncle performed the ceremony, a dear family friend catered the event, another close friend drove all the way from NYC with all of the sound equipment, and my Herculean Mother acted as the event planning machine that pulled it all together. We were beyond lucky.

Making the big feel small: I come from a big family, so a tiny wedding was never in our cards. This didn’t change our desire for the day to feel special, and for every guest to feel like they were a crucial part of the celebration, because the truth is we wouldn’t have been there without them.

To pull this off we wanted people to feel comfortable. We made sure that during the outdoor ceremony there was plenty of water available, and handheld fans that people could grab. We over ordered on food and drink because what’s a party without an abundance of both?

We wanted dinner to feel like one giant dinner party, so we placed all of the tables close together, in various angles, and served the food family style. We put out large pitchers of sangria on every table that paired perfectly with our Spanish style meal.

Michael is a huge fan of whiskey, so post dinner we opened the whiskey bar and allowed people to taste some of our favorites that Michael personally selected.

For dessert we had a large table with different types of fruit tarts, and pies that people could grab on their way to the dance floor, or when they needed to take a break. Around 9:30, individual servings of local ice cream were passed around the dance floor as the perfect way to cool down after breaking a sweat.

The music: You can never, ever underestimate the power of good music. Our friends and family are the kind of people who like to dance, and we didn’t want to disappoint. Months later we are still hearing our guests talk about how wild and amazing the band was. You won’t regret the splurge.

Photography & Videography: We knew once the wedding was over, the photos and videos were all that we’d have left to remember the day. For us, paying extra for someone whose style we really, really loved was worth it. We made sure to tell both teams how important it was to capture the guests, not just the two of us, and they exceed every expectation.

Stick to the budget: Everyone’s situation is different, but we wanted to stick as closely to the budget as possible. Things happen, and unexpected expenses occur, but I’m really grateful that we spent what we did because every penny was worth it, and at the same time, that we didn’t spend anymore.

The ceremony: During the planning it was really easy to get sucked into the details of the bridesmaid dresses, or the type of lights to hang in the tent, or what flowers we would have where. We had to constantly remind ourselves that the point of the wedding was to get married, and that if we achieved that, the wedding would be a success.

We had my sister and Michael’s brother read a blessing that was read at my parent’s wedding. We had my Aunt read a poem that was written by my Grandmother. We chose music that meant something to us, and that family performed. We wrote our own vows. We created a list of what we loved most about one another and had our officiant, my great Uncle, read aloud. There were lots of tears, and lots of laughs, and to us it was perfect.

As a closing detail we ordered 50 cowbells that were handed out to guests. Michael and I got engaged on top of a Spanish mountain with the sound of grazing cows wearing cowbells in the distance. We figured there was no better way to start our marriage than to that sound, with the added cheers of our guests.

A Wedding at American’s First Organic Farm

When Andrew and Lina got engaged, there was no question where they’d tie the knot. The Rodale Organic Family Farm, Andrew’s family estate, was the ultimate backdrop for their summer wedding and they knew just how to dress up the details, giving their rustic celebration a modern spin. With incredible vendors like Cobblestone CateringJackie Schneider Beauty and Rebecca Yale Photography in the mix, every aspect of their big day was something special. More to see this way!

Andrew and Lina met at an advertising agency in 2011 where they both worked. They both still work in the advertising industry, Andrew on the technology side, and Lina on the planning and buying side.

They were married on Andrew’s family estate, The Rodale Organic Family Farm, a truly picturesque spot that has been the venue for many of Andrew’s family members nuptials. The Rodale family were pioneers in organic farming, and the family farm was the first organic farm in America, which is not far from the Rodale Institute, which continues to be at the forefront of organic farming practices. Guests were welcomed to the farm with gift bags featuring organic snacks and beverages along with copies of Women’s and Men’s Health Magazine, publications produced by the Rodale family. In keeping with the spirit of the farm, guests were each given a succulent to take home as a wedding favor.

Mark Kintzel, whose known the groom since he was a baby, designed the day with bright summer florals to compliment the beautiful farm setting with pops of pink, red, yellow and orange, which also carried through to the bridesmaids’ dresses and the bride’s shoes. Instead of a traditional photo booth, Mark decked out the groom’s great grandfather’s VW convertible with flowers and vintage suitcases, making for a fun and personal backdrop. Guests were given a copy of their photos to keep and another strip to paste in the guestbook. The bride and groom had a custom snapchat geo tag made for their guests to use during the wedding and collected all the snaps as a digital guestbook as well.

The farm is still a working farm, but the greenhouse was decommissioned and the glass removed to prevent snow cave-ins during the winter, which made for the perfect spot for cocktail hour. Cocktail hour took place in both the greenhouse and the sculpture garden next door and guests enjoyed 3 signature cocktails and oysters while Andrew’s uncle played the accordion. Andrew and Lina share a love of travel and food- he proposed on a hilltop in Greece- and come from diverse backgrounds, which they wanted to showcase throughout. The reception took place in a sailcloth tent and the dinner was a blend of cuisines from all of their travels (Italian, Spanish, Greek, Dominican and Lebanese) and was served family style to bring everyone together for the special occasion.

A Wedding that Fully Embraces Spring

There is a reason Spring weddings are insanely popular and it has a lot to do with the crazy gorgeous flowers. And if you can land yourself a venue like the Farm at Eagle’s Ridge with flowering trees, well then consider yourself blessed by the wedding gods. These high school sweethearts fall squarely in that category and with the crafting of Oleander Floral & Events, their Spring floral infused barn wedding is one for the books. Sneak a peek at more of the romance through the lens of Lauren Fair Photography.

From the Bride…Jimmy and I are high school sweethearts, so when he proposed almost 9 years after our first date, we couldn’t wait to finally promise our lives to each other. We wanted our wedding to feel like a relaxed, effortless, romantic dinner party where all of our closest friends and family could gather and celebrate the love that we had built over the years.

When we first started looking at wedding venues, my only requirement was that the ceremony be outside. We came across the Farm at Eagle’s Ridge and the grounds blew me away. We knew pretty immediately that we wanted to be married there by the water. From then on, everything else fell into place.

We were intentional about working with inspiring, passionate, and just overall genuinely good people. We put a lot of trust into our vendors, which allowed us to keep the planning and wedding day as laid back as possible. Needless to say, we worked with some seriously incredible people. Lauren and Tim of Lauren Fair Photography captured our day with such ease and beauty. Cynthia at Oleander managed to create the bouquet & floral installation of my dreams, incorporating floral elements that I didn’t even know existed. The staff at Jimmy Duffy’s were incredible and so accommodating. Janelle from Janelle on Location made me feel beautiful, but more importantly, like me. Our amazing vendors allowed us to enjoy every second of our wedding day, and for that, we are forever grateful.

I have a handful of moments from our wedding day that I keep close to my heart, but one of my favorite moments was just after our ceremony ended. We had a minute or two to ourselves after the processional, and we held each other finally as husband and wife. My advice to other brides is to keep it simple and easy. Try not to overcomplicate and overthink. Oh and dance. Always dance under the stars with the one you love.

Elegant Christmas Ballroom Wedding

From The Bride… Griffin and I first met at Villanova University in May, 2008. We were introduced by a mutual friend at a local college hangout, the Grog. We hit it off immediately and the rest is history.

The ceremony was held at St. Thomas of Villanova Church. Getting married at Villanova was extremely important to us because it was the place the originally brought us together. There are so many beautiful country clubs around the main line it was so difficult to choose, but after seeing Philadelphia Country Club’s gorgeous ballroom and classic Christmas decor, we were sold. It was a traditional, classic, Christmas wedding and we incorporated a gold pinecones into pretty much everything.

We were nervous that we chose December 5th because of the weather, however, we lucked out and it was a perfect 50-degree day with not a cloud in the sky. It was so nice I was worried my fur stole and the girls’ black watch pashminas wouldn’t be necessary.

Our colors were gold, green, ivory, and navy. We chose colors to compliment Christmas decor. The colors were also incorporated in the navy and green black watch plaid in our wedding party and our niece and Nephew’s attire.

My Mom is an incredible artist so when it came to the fun and creative details, we had a blast. We made gold pinecone Christmas ornaments and attached to the welcome bags, my Mom drew the map of events, decorated flip flops so that everyone could kick off their heels and dance and a close family friend stitched the Mr. & Mrs. stockings for our chairs. The place card table was its own winter wonderland with Christmas tree holders and pinecone accents.

I think it is safe to say the most memorial part for us would be the door opening into the church and seeing one another. A funny moment that we will never forget was my Uncle Pat ripped off his tux jacket and had on a custom shirt with our photo and “Just Married” on the back. Another funny moment was when my MOH tried to fix my veil before we left the church but ripped it out of my hair by accident.

A Summer Cricket Club Wedding With Dusty Lavender Bridesmaid Gowns

Let me set the scene – a summertime soiree set at a Pennsylvania cricket club with bridesmaids dressed in dusty lavender and a bride who’s an absolute vision in her Rosa Clara gown. Pair that with the floral design of La Petite Fleur and invitations by Chick Invitations and you’ve got a wedding made for our pages. Head to the gallery for more pretty captured by Unique Concepts Studio.

From La Petite Fleur, Weddings and EventsFor their summer wedding at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, Rachel and Logan collaborated with wedding design studio La Petite Fleur (LPF) to create a floral and décor plan that married their chic, garden style with their venue’s regal atmosphere.

The couple thoughtfully considered the emotion and sentiment of each detail as they planned their day— beginning with deciding to blindfold Logan for his ride from the hotel to the Cricket Club, so a true first-look could be captured by the photographer in front of family and friends! Including and honoring their families was so important that they also displayed several generations of family photos throughout the club.

A breathtaking bride, Rachel carried a romantic bouquet of garden blooms, including garden roses, sweet peas, anemones, ranunculus, peonies, spray roses, jasmine vine, and a touch of curly willow— with ivory satin-wrapped stems. And lovely in dusty lavender, the bridesmaids processed through the Cricket Club’s courtyard with bouquets of peach garden roses, scabiosa pods, café au lait dahlias, mauve astilbe, amnesia roses and mini green hydrangea, which were finished with specialty greens and twine-wrapped stems.

Rachel and Logan exchanged vows beneath a birch chuppah, which LPF draped along the top and front with asymmetrical swags of lace and floral garland, which included coral and blush peonies, peach Alejandra roses, sword fern, spray roses, bush ivy, silver dollar eucalyptus and other variegated greens.

And just as personalized hankies (for tears of joy!) greeted well-wishers at the ceremony, a truly special seating chart display welcomed guests as they entered the reception. A carefully-curated collection of vintage plates presented the seating assignments, which had been hand-lettered by Rachel’s grandmother. The plates were perched upon a moss tablescape— complete with cloches and clusters of blooms.

LPF carried the warm, romantic look of Rachel and Logan’s day through the reception with a décor plan that infused the ballroom with an unexpected majesty (a candle-lined entryway staircase), and hints of whimsy (elevated tablescapes) that were balanced by sophisticated touches (lots of gold accents).

As a focal point for the reception décor was the extra-long head table adorned with a lush garland across the front that included spray roses, seeded eucalyptus, feather willow and Queen Anne’s lace. Flanking the garland on the tabletop, were floating candles amidst a ‘hedge’ of birch bark vessels arranged with specialty greens and blooms, including green hydrangea, seeded eucalyptus, garden roses, ranunculus and spray roses.

The look and feel of the reception was significantly impacted by the floor plan, which included a variety of table shapes—dressed in light gold linens— and corresponding, varied tablescape designs. Some long dining tables were designed with elevated floral tablescapes— from which glass orbs filled with tea lights and floating blooms were suspended. Beneath the elevated, lush display was a ‘runner’ of greenery and mercury gold julep cups votives. Other long tables featured a ‘hedge’ of bloom-filled birch bark vessels, brushed gold candle holders, floating candles and mercury votives.

Square tables were also incorporated into the floor plan and were adorned with one of two coordinating tablescape styles. One tablescape featured a gold lantern atop a reclaimed wood pedestal accented with ‘trailing’ blooms, including green hydrangea, roses, spray roses and buplerum. Finishing this presentation was a trio of elements, including a petite gold mercury stand with a coordinating arrangement, and two gold pedestals of varying heights— one topped with a cascading arrangement; the other, a floating candle.

Meanwhile, other squares featured a tall, brushed gold vase with a lush, cascading arrangement of textured blooms including hydrangea, garden roses, ranunculus, spray roses and variegated greenery. A birch bark ‘folder,’ with coordinating foliage, as well as mercury gold julep votives completed the look on the tables.

A Charming Historic Inn Wedding That’s Fit for a Gilmore Girl

If we’re going to discuss fabulous fall trends, then we certainly can’t leave out the beauty of a wedding day at the Moonstone Manor captured by Joey Kennedy Photography. It’s enough to make the Gilmore Girls jealous (and rightly so). Complete with richly hued wildflowers by design blooms and better than imagined details, we’ve got every second of this stunner sitting patiently (and prettily) in The Vault

From Joey Kennedy Photography…Erin’s style really impressed me, I love to see classic and elegant with a fun twist. Moonstone manor was also a fabulous location for an outdoor wedding.

From the Bride…We first met at my dad’s farm in Virginia the winter of 2013 and from there we spent all summer hiking, rock climbing, and camping. It was the best way to get to know each other and fall in love. Nick had secretly reserved my favorite hike, Old Rag Mountain, as the site where he proposed summer of 2014.

When it came to picking a wedding venue we figured since we were both from different states one side of the family would have to travel anyways; so we decided to meet in the middle. We found Moonstone Manor and thought it would be the perfect place for a laid back, yet classy manor wedding.

The first look was definitely the highlight for both of us, as well as a surprise performance (more on that later), but the whole weekend was equally incredible. It was really a chance for our family and friends from all over the world, some we hadn’t seen for years, to get together and have a reunion. Saturday we hosted a big brunch and hung out with everyone at the house we were renting on the Susquehanna River. This made the wedding day even more relaxed and fun since most everyone had had a chance to get to know each other. The day before our wedding Nick and I went for a beautiful hike. It was really intimate and reminded us why we were getting married and how blessed we were to have each other and everyone we love around us.

We really wanted our guests to have FUN in our wedding. We love weddings where people can feel free to relax and find different things to do in between the program. We had organized a photo booth, guest book table, lounge area for guests to relax, sparklers for the kids, and lots of entertainment. My sister is a singer so she sang Debussy as I walked down the aisle and her A Capella group surprised us with a set of songs during the reception. Another incredible group of people completely surprised everyone at the wedding — Nick’s huge family from the tiny island of Malta spent months organizing and rehearsing a dance for us that they performed near the end of the night. Their performance was beyond amazing.

Advice: Don’t be afraid to ask friends and family for help. They were all so helpful the weekend of our wedding and did so much to make the day beautiful.

Hot Pink Is Always A Good Idea

You just can’t go wrong with a wedding at home. Especially when you deck it out from top to bottom with blooms as bright as these babies! Thanks to Fleur De Lis for their talent and mkPhoto for capturing it all, we have a uber colorful (aka uber perfect) Vault gallery to dive into todayright this way!

From mkPhotoMicaela Carrasco and John Gallagher planned a super exciting wedding in a surprisingly short time. They imagined summer outdoor event and when none of the venues they considered offered quite the right combination, they decided to transform their home and yard into the perfect setting. No detail was left to chance and a team of extraordinarily talented and creative minds worked together to create a dream wedding.

The dress, shoes, flower, the home – every detail was stunning. The combination of the back yard sophistication was a pleasure to capture. The wedding day could not have been any more perfect including a quick trip to Longwood Gardens for portraits. Micaela and John tied the knot at home and will always remember their perfect day when they are relaxing on their deck and watching the sunset over the field.

From the Bride… John and I were friends for years and were co-workers. We were both in outside sales and had a strong passion for sales. That common interest among many other shared interests brought us together. We quickly fell in love and knew that we both wanted the same things out of life: family, travel, laughter and excitement. We were quickly engaged during the Christmas Season 2015, our favorite holiday. John proposed in New York City on the Bow Bridge in Central Park.

I was able to plan a beautiful wedding at home in just six short months. I asked a lot of questions and valued vendor recommendations on who to use. My dress was purchased at the Wedding Pavillion and was a Pronovias design. My shoes were Jimmy Choo and jewelry was by Thomas Knoll and flowers were Fleur-de-Lis. The Styled Bride helped with the day of planning and the event was catered by Max Hansen. Claudia Seyler did hair and makeup. Event Quip did the tent and lighting. MK did the wonderful photography ;)

The best advice we could give is that the details make the event. The more detailed you can be the better things will turn out. Let people know what your vision is and ask how to get what you had in mind!

Modern Meets Traditional in This Historic Philadelphia Wedding

If you were to ask me to pinpoint the perfect combination of modernity and traditional, I would direct you to said celebration captured by Rachel Pearlman Photography. It’s basically everything and then some and we just so happen to have it all waiting you to fall madly in love with in The Vault!

From Rachel Pearlman PhotographyA combination of modern meets historic is the best way to describe this stunning summer wedding in historic Philadelphia. Jess and Mark met at the University of Pittsburgh, and once engaged they knew that a wedding in the City of Brotherly Love was not negotiable. Jess is from Philadelphia, so the couple had spent a lot of time in the area and were drawn to the architecture and charm of historic Old City. Once they saw The Downtown Club, founded in 1897 in true Georgian Revival Style, their vision of a neutral color scheme – complete with modern additions- started to come together beautifully. Luxurious details included mixing ghost chairs with golden urns and neutral linens for an unexpected twist. Their cake included cascading sugar flowers dusted in gold. As Mark and Jess were introduced, a canon of rose petals was released on the dance floor. During their ceremony, the couple’s wedding bands were hidden under the chair of a ‘mystery guest’, who was called to act as their ring bearer during vows!

Margartias + Love = the Ultimate E-Sesh

Seeing as it’s the last day of August, we thought what better way to celebrate summer than with a margarita fueled engagement session? Thankfully Alexandra Elise Photography was behind the lens to capture every delicious sip and we’ve got it all waiting to quench your thirst in The Vault!

From Alexandra Elise PhotographyA few weeks ago I had the chance to travel to Scranton, PA to photograph Ashley and Justin’s engagement session to celebrate their upcoming wedding. I love traveling to new locations to shoot because it is incredibly inspiring– from the playfulness in the creek to the downtown romance, this session is truly beautiful. Captured solely on medium format film, the emotion and movement are intimately captured.

From The Bride…Justin and I met in college. I was finishing up my under grad in nursing school and he was completing his masters in administration. We hit it off immediately and spent every day of the rest of the semester together.

Justin proposed in Ireland at the Cliffs of Moher 2 years later at the top of a castle. (Ireland is very special to me because my grandma is from there and I have lots of relatives living there). That day, it was cold and drizzly. We got to the cliffs and I had told him and our friends to go ahead, I had already seen the cliffs and didn’t feel like trekking up the cliffs in the chilly, rainy weather. He somehow dragged me out of the car, got me to the top of the cliffs and he got down on one knee! I was in complete shock and immediately forgot about the weather and how cold I was.

Our life has been an amazing adventure together so far. We have lived in three different states and have seen so many things. We have learned through this that it does not matter where we are, or what we have, but rather being with the one that matters the most, no matter where life takes us.

It All Started with an Instant Message

This couple? They’re kind of everything. Because not only did John and Amanda’s love story start when they were just youngsters, but the beginning of said romance? Downright cinematic. Fast forward a decade later and this sweet pair proves that their love is stronger than ever. With Maria Lamb behind the lens capturing every second of their celebration, we’ve got it all waiting for you in The Vault!

“To officially ask me to be his girlfriend, he named a star
after me and filled up a spiral notebook with letters

From The Bride…My husband was 16 and I was 15 when we first met. We were playing tennis. He saw me on the other side of the courts and walked up to say hello – “Hey, you’re Abby’s friend Amanda, right?” That was the beginning of late nights instant messaging on AOL (AIM), sending mail on MySpace (pre-Facebook), and leaving notes for each other in between our high school classes. To officially ask me to be his girlfriend, he named a star after me (Walk to Remember?) and filled up an entire three-subject spiral notebook with letters. We then went to Prom, where we had our first official dance.

We are each others’ first-and-only. But like all couples, we’ve also had our struggles. 26/25 year old John and Amanda are very different from their 16/15 year old selves. For eight out of our 10 years together, we were doing long-distance (Los Angeles, New Haven, Maine, New York, Boston). For 1.5 of those years, we took a break (without seeing other people). Our first time as adults in the same city was only two years ago. We are thankful for our journey, a testament both to what God has done in our lives and also our continual perseverance.

John proposed in Napa on December 18th, 2015, by reading me a letter which he wrote in 2006, hardly half a year into our courtship. Although it was only a few months after we met, John wrote that he loved me and wanted to marry me. I think he was smart to never give me that letter 9 years ago, as he might have scared me away! But luckily he saved it, and I will cherish those words forever.

Maria did a great job capturing the vibrancy of our excitement, disbelief, and joy that this day was finally happening. We chose the Poconos because I spent every summer there growing up. We loved the camp theme as it offered our guests the chance to take advantage of the beautiful Pennsylvania outdoors: guests stayed the entire weekend and slept in cabins, while spending free-time zip lining, canoeing, hiking, etc. What sold the place for John was the lack of noise restrictions and that the party could last until sunrise (as opposed to strict 10pm cut-offs at other venues). Also, how gorgeous are the trees! There’s a reason it is called Camp “Timber Tops.”

The weekend started on Friday with a traditional Korean “paebek” ceremony, honoring John’s heritage and our beginnings as both an American and multi-cultural family. The dress is known as a “hanbok” and my favorite element of the ceremony was when John gave me, his mom, and my mom each a piggy-back ride, to signify his responsibility to uphold his future family. Also, family members threw us dates (girls) and chestnuts (boys), and how many we caught symbolized our future children – 2 girls, 1 boy! Finally we ended the night with delicious Korean BBQ and libations.

Saturday was the traditional black tie wedding. The decorations and planning were a collective labor of love led my my mom, along with her team of friends/family who worked hard to make the day special. I can never repay their time and energy, whether crafting the cross for our ceremony, tying hundreds of goodie bags with s’mores, setting the tables with logs and candles, hand-painting our bark signs, etc. My mom saved one surprise for coming back down the aisle – not rice, but rainbow marshmallows!

After we were pronounced husband and wife, we entered the camp dining hall for the reception; this was when it became real, as all of our friends and family who flew in from around the world cheered for us as we danced to “Must’ve Done Something Right.” If there was one thing that surprised me the most about our wedding, it was the realization that it is not all “your” day but where you can celebrate God, family, friends who were there with you every step of the way.

This Couple First Met When They Were Just Four Years Old

You guys, this adorable couple first met when they were just four years old…I mean, how incredibly sweet is that?! Fast forward 25 years later and these toddlers are now totally in love and married in one of the prettiest ceremonies ever. With Eva Lin Photography behind the lens capturing every moment to share, we invite you to witness their new beginning in The Vault!

From The Bride…Would you believe me if I told you that the first time I met my husband is when I was 4 years old? Neither would my 4 year old self! But, fast forward 25 years and here we are…married! RK and I grew up together hanging out at our swimming club in the summer. Between pool games like running bases, sharks and minnows and red rover, we’d see each other from time to time at the club until we were 15…then our lives took different routes. I went to public school, he went to private school. I went to PSU for college, he played lacrosse at Hobart, I lived in Austin after graduating, he moved back to Pittsburgh. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I saw a picture of him at an old friend’s wedding and decided to reach out. A few weeks later, we met at a bar (I took my sister and brother-in-law for in-case-of-emergency-backup) and we ended up having a blast! From that moment on, I realized RK was incredibly special. He’s thoughtful, smart, funny, and his dapper looks definitely don’t hurt either. I truly felt happy being around him and I realized that I never wanted to lose that feeling…or him.

A few months (yes months!) RK and I were sitting on a beach in Cape Cod. He proposed on Little Beach, my favorite spot in the entire world and that day was something I’ll never forget. The sun was out, our emotions were high and he surprised me by flying our family and closest friends to Chatham for an engagement party! We laughed, drank and celebrated the day away and decided that May 14, 2016 would be our wedding date.

I’d like to think of myself as romantic with a healthy dose of flower child so for our wedding I wanted to create a theme that felt feminine, elegant, earthy and traditional. We picked Longue Vue Country Club for the ceremony and reception. Something about the drive through the lush and windy road that led to a beautiful stone building on top of a hill spoke to me. The mossy stone, the perfectly constructed archways, the beautiful blooming dogwood trees…it felt so right for the theme that we wanted to create. For my gown, I chose a silk chiffon skirt made my Antonio Gual and a custom halter top created by Jen Rocket studio. Because the skirt was such a standout piece, I wanted to create an elegant and classic silhouette for the top and decided to go with a low back halter. Jen saw my vision perfectly and produced a beautiful piece to wear. We kept the colors of the bridal party traditional with black Aubrey Hepburn-inspired Alfred Sung dresses and black suits for the men. Then, for pops of color I included pinks and golds to create a softer look. Flowers for my bridesmaids were leafy green floral with hints of white. My bouquet was bursting with parrot tulips, Iceland poppies, coral charm peonies, anemones, hydrangeas and soft trailing greenery. My flower crown was mostly greenery with hints of baby’s breath throughout. I kept my hair half up but incorporated lots of braids for texture adding a bohemian touch. The juxtaposition of traditional, feminine and bohemian detailing was what created the look that I was going for.

The ceremony was supposed to take place on a stone patio outside but as Pittsburgh weather goes, it rained so we said “I Do” inside the ballroom. We placed giant urns (two at the beginning of the aisle and two at the altar) filled with flowers similar to my bouquet and transformed the dining area into a beautiful floral space. Gold Chiavari chairs lined either side of the aisle and a sturdy gold chandelier hung above us. Music is a big part of my family so for the ceremony, I recorded and walked down to “When The Right One Comes Along” by Clare Bowen and Sam Palladio with my father. I remember feeling so nervous and excited as my bridesmaids headed towards the alter one by one. Seeing RK standing there was the best thing and reminded me how lucky I was at that very moment to be marrying such an amazing guy.

To create a more personal feel, I enlisted the help of Jessi Evans from Orchard Made to design a flag that emulated the monogram on our invitations and hung at the archway where our guests were greeted. Inside, she also created a floral photo backdrop, a banner with one of our favorite quotes and two “here comes the bride” pennants for the ring bearers. These additional pieces truly transformed the space into that soft, romantic and bohemian feel that I was going for.
RK and I decided to do the tradition of cutting our 4 tiered cake before the first dance. The cake itself was stunning! Each butternut cream layer was given a different texture to produce a unique vision for our guests to enjoy. To add something a little extra we placed mini gold and white donuts around the cake. I have a thing for donuts so really this was just a personal request for me to enjoy even more sugar on the big day. Ha!

As the night went on, toasts were given by my father, Max, RK’s best man and my amazing MOH and sister Callie. One of my favorite parts of the speeches were how heartfelt each one was. Love is an amazing feeling and to celebrate with the people you care about most is something so special! As a gift, my father, a talented singer and songwriter wrote me my very own song…it was magical!

After guests enjoyed their meals, our band Jason Kendall Productions got the dance floor moving! I loved laughing, singing and generally having a great time with my best friends, RK and family. My skirt was perfect for dancing, so most of the night I was making myself dizzy by spinning it around!

After hours of fun, it was time to go. Our guests lined up under the stone archway and lit sparklers as we walked to our getaway car, a Rolls Royce Phantom. An overwhelming sense of joy and love filled my entire body as we said goodbye to our closest family and friends. Our wedding was a fairytale and although it was one of the best days of my life, I know there will be many more with my amazing husband RK.

To all of you future brides out there. Enjoy every second of your wedding day! It’s a reminder of how lucky we are to know what it feels like to love and to be loved.

A Romantic Garden Wedding at the Rodin Museum

Something magical happens when two college sweethearts with a love for art wed at the perfect museum venue, as captured to perfection by Alyssa Maloof Photography. Set in the picture perfect gardens of the Rodin Museum complete with a center fountain, lush gardens, gorgeous sculptures and a string quartet, all the beautiful details are waiting for you in The Vault!

From The Bride…Eric and I met five years prior at The University of Maryland College Park. He was about to graduate and leave to go to law school in Philadelphia and I had another two years to finish my Masters. We reconnected a year later and after I moved to Philadelphia we started to think long term. We got engaged shortly after in New York City.

After we got engaged we took some time to look for the perfect venue. We knew we wanted something small and intimate. Once we stepped into the Rodin Museum we knew it was meant to be. Perfectly situated in the center of Philadelphia, with a beautiful center fountain complete with lush gardens and famous sculptures from Auguste Rodin it was the perfect setting for our special day. Plus Eric’s father is an artist and Eric hold his undergraduate degree in art history so it all felt so perfect for us.

The day of our wedding could not have been more beautiful. A variety of flowers were in bloom and the sun was shining bright. Eric and I planned to have a string quartet play throughout the ceremony and reception with a mix of classical and contemporary songs. The cocktail hour was set outside in the gardens where guests enjoyed speciality his and her cocktails. Once inside for dinner, guests enjoyed viewing different sculptures on display such as “The Kiss”. After dinner was complete, Eric and I opted out of the traditional wedding cake and went for a local ice cream company that served tasty and unique flavors for our guests to enjoy. The wedding day was completed outside with lighted candles and ice cream under the stars.

From The Bride…After getting engaged, I was excited to start wedding planning but wasn’t sure where to begin. I had no idea what I wanted for the color scheme, decor, venue or any of the major elements that go into a wedding. So after many bridal magazines, and hours spent on Pinterest and Style Me Pretty I finally began to create a vision for our wedding.

Sean and I started by touring wedding venues in Philadelphia. We are both from Maryland but have called Philly home for the past 4 years and knew it was the perfect place. It was an easy decision for us to book the Horticulture Center in Fairmount Park. We loved the outdoor feel of the greenhouse venue and how magical it looked at night with all the hanging lights and candles. A huge plus for us was that their exclusive caterer was Starr Events, since we were familiar with their numerous restaurants around Philadelphia.

Sean and I found Uncommon Events through a recommendation at our Venue and are so happy we did. We used them for planning, design & floral decor. Their creative vision and planning helped to create such an amazing day. I was blown away by the flowers and decor and seeing all the ideas we had come to life. They did such a fantastic job.

Since we were getting married in April, we knew the weather would be unpredictable. We ended up getting really lucky with it raining in the morning then suddenly clearing up right before heading outside to do pictures. The cherry blossoms outside the Horticulture Center also bloomed earlier than normal so we had a gorgeous background for our pictures.

From the beginning of our day getting ready at the Monaco to ending the night with a packed dance floor (thanks to our band!) our wedding was like a dream and one of the best days of our lives. It was absolutely perfect and we’re so thankful that Mary Dougherty and Cinemacake were able to capture all of these memories in such an amazing way!

Forget Gold – This Wedding Proves Silver is Just As Pretty

You first met our girl Abby Silverman and her beau Tom for their Pittsburgh engagement session, and today we’re peeking into their modern ballroom wedding infused with shades of silver. Abby drew her inspiration through countless trips to The Vault and made certain every last detail was styled, chic and personal to them. Check out Michaelwill Photography’s pretty captures and scroll below for more ideas to add a touch of silver to your wedding day.

From The Bride… Tom (the hubby) and I met at Syracuse University in 2008 (almost eight years to the day we tied the knot). Tom, was an graduating senior and I was a outgoing sophomore. Needless to say, when we first met, the idea of getting married was well… not on our minds. However after eight years, countless miles of long distance driving and several apartments between us, we made it official!

Never have I ever felt so prepared and so unprepared for what was ahead of me. However, someone asked me recently what I would change and I couldn’t think of a thing! Sure, there were hiccups along the way, but nothing else mattered when I saw Tom for the first time and I walked down the aisle with my dad (to Kisses and Cake from P.S. I Love You).

Tom and I were very lucky! We had the support of our incredible friends, family and a team of AMAZING vendors who helped to take our idea’s and make them a wedding-bliss reality. Choosing the right team (and I mean it, they are your team) is so important. Getting married in a hotel ballroom has its challenges, but with the help of Hens and Chicks decorating the space to perfection with succulents, peonies, earl gray roses and countless other blooms and Michael Will capturing every moment, it was nothing short of breathtaking.

Some words of advice from a former bride to future brides: Enjoy every moment! Even if that’s spray painting Ikea picture frames silver and realizing you only ordered enough for seven tables (we had 15 tables). Things happen and what really matters is in that moment of chaos appreciate how special and momentous it all is – because seriously – it’s over in a flash … but totally worth the extra car ride to Ikea.

This is the Classic Wedding of Every Bride’s Dreams

It’s not often you find a hotel ballroom with clean lines and modern décor, but Lauren and Sean transformed the space, mixing the hotel’s contemporary style with their love of nature through fresh blooms and vines to give it a vineyard feel. And to incorporate the Bride’s love of horses, lucky horseshoes from her beloved horse were scattered amongst the various floral displays. See all the pretty details (including the Bride’s beautiful hairdo from True Beauty Marks), captured by Emily Wren Photography and Squareware Studios, in The Vault!

From Emily Wren PhotographyLauren & Sean were married in Philadelphia on a beautiful September day in 2015. They tied the knot at Old Saint Joseph’s – one of the oldest churches in Philadelphia, located in the Old City section and filled with old world charm. We then strolled down the winding cobblestone streets and brick row homes of Headhouse Square for some portraits that captured some of Philadelphia’s historic character.

They kicked off the wedding reception at Hotel Monaco, with cocktail hour on the rooftop bar, and reception in the main ballroom to follow. Lauren & Sean are both outdoorsy people; Lauren dedicated to riding her horse and Sean to surfing. They brought this love of nature to their decor, mixing the hotel’s modern touches with fresh blooms and vines which recalled the feel of a classic vineyard. To top it off, lucky horseshoes from Lauren’s beloved horse were scattered amongst the various floral displays.

A Black Tie Wedding Set at a Waterfall!

From Joey Kennedy PhotographyThe Omni Resort at Bedford Springs is a tale of two cites. This venue is half way between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh and even Washington DC. It has colonial charm and being nestled in the mountains gives your guests the seclusion of a perfect weekend get away. The gorgeous gratto feels like an french landscape and perfect ceremony location. Its absolutely one of my favorite venues!

From The Bride…We booked Bedford Springs out of the blue for our first valentines day weekend together and fell in love with everything about it. I secretly picked up a wedding packet book because I already knew it was the perfect place for us when that time came. After Patrick proposed we both knew it was our #1 choice but just had to get our parents on board as they were a little skeptic seeming as though it is virtually in the middle of nowhere! Luckily they loved it too and we didn’t look at one other venue, we knew this was our place. Looking back we know we made the best decision ever, our family and friends raved about it and we could not imagine having our wedding anywhere else.

From the Bride… We met at a mutual friend’s birthday dinner at the Four Season’s Bourbon Steak in D.C. The dinner consisted only of our friend Ashleigh, Viktor, myself, and another friend of the birthday girl. The evening was a blur and the connection was like fireworks. Ashleigh likes to say that it was like sitting in on the most perfect first date she could imagine. We were both casually seeing someone else at the time, but we could not shake that chemistry, and so in just one week, we sorted out our other situations and then went on our first date the following week after. Three months later we went on our first trip to the Luberon in the South of France where I met his family, et voila, the rest is history! We felt that Ashleigh was the most appropriate officiant for our wedding considering the story, so she married us.

Viktor grew up in Stockholm with much of his family running a farm near Hedemora, Sweden. He spent all of his holidays and countless family occasions at the farm and in the forrest land of this area. I grew up in Doylestown, Pennsylvania between a Christmas tree farm and a corn field, and have always held the charm of Bucks County farmland close to my heart. Considering Sweden would be a difficult destination for many of our friends and family, Viktor suggested that we find a farm in my hometown to honor our upbringings. The Inn at Barley Sheaf was a perfect location for us. Working in hotels, I have seen many beautiful weddings planned to include multiple locations and venues for the ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, after party, etc. We wanted to create an environment that made our guests feel welcome and comfortable, for an entire day of celebration, without having to travel anywhere. BSF has done a beautiful renovation on their barn space which served both as our ceremony space, and as our after party venue later in the evening. The Manor House hosted a lovely cocktail hour on the patio facing the gazebo, and there is plenty of space for our tent to have the reception. The fall foliage, horses, apple trees and space for croquet and lawn games was an added bonus. Not to mention, the entire wedding party (bridesmaids and groomsmen) were able to stay in the sixteen rooms on site, so it really made for an all inclusive sentiment – like a home away from home for the entire weekend.

Halloween is a very special holiday for us.  I host an annual charity event called Violence is Scary in Washington D.C. to support local domestic violence charities in the city because of my passion for the holiday and the cause. We bought a home on October 31, 2014, exactly one year before the wedding date. We wanted to incorporate the holiday without over doing it, so we had a roaring 20’s/Gatsby rehearsal dinner at the Michener Art Museum the night before, and then decorated the barn for the after party with Halloween themed inspirations and a fog machine (all DIY projects from the Paper Source). The photo-booth had all handmade Halloween themed props designed for the wedding by Manic Moose on Etsy. And the dessert table was a Trick-or-Treat theme, with a variety of delicious bite sized options made be Debbie Croll, my mom. The band learned Monster Mash as the encore song for the evening.

The rest of the wedding was very seasonally inspired with light apricot, marsala and sage at the heart of the theme throughout. There were touches of my favorite, rose gold, wherever metallic appeared. It was a black tie wedding because Viktor thought it would be a fun contrast to have a black tie dress code with a farm background. We had several DIY projects with tissue tassel garland and the bridesmaids carried oversized balloons with peach confetti. The table escort cards were secured to mini Chandon bottles with a sign reading “It’s not a VJ party without bottle service” as an inside joke/tribute to Viktor’s affinity to bottle service at night clubs and bars. We had cornhole boards made each displaying the skyline of Stockholm or Philadelphia, with the bean bags embroidered with our self made monogram AV symbol that appeared throughout the event.

Another contrast that was very important to us was to make sure that both the American and Swedish influences shined through. We had readings at the ceremony in both English and Swedish, the table numbers were displayed with hand cut wooden horses called Dala horses, that represent the region in Sweden where Viktor’s family is from. There were luminaries with the skyline of Stockholm, and we carved pumpkins to spell out the Josefsson for the evening to light the way for guests leaving after the event. There was a trick-or-treat cauldron with candy bags to take away Swedish fish imported from Malmo in Sweden for the guests. We rented a large marquee light of the LOVE statue from Philadelphia which is one of my favorite places in the city. We finished the evening late night with the Say Cheese food truck from Philadelphia because of my cheese obsession, featuring classic Philadelphia cheesesteaks and this was one of the biggest hits of the evening. The processional music for the wedding party was an instrumental piano version of Wake Me Up by Swedish DJ Avicii, I walked down the aisle to the Glasgow Love Theme from Love Actually, and the recessional music was a famous Swedish love song.

Viktor and I both discussed how there were several times throughout the evening where we just stopped and looked around to take in being surrounded by so many friends and family. Especially for Viktor, given that 40 family members travelled all the way from Sweden to attend the wedding. I will personally never forget my father/daughter dance when we waltzed to Sunrise Sunset, and then pretended to walk off at the end, but returned with a pompadour, elvis glasses and a huge foam bob wig to perform The Twist. Another hysterical moment was mid-ceremony when Viktor and I looked at each other, and then over at Ashleigh as she was reading. We both noticed a small spider dropping out of the floral archway directly in front of her forehead but she didn’t see it. We tried to keep our composure, but when we made eye contact again, we burst into laughter mid ceremony. Lastly, I learned part of my vows in Swedish to surprise Viktor, which certainly worked!
