Black + Gold Artwork Inspired Wedding Details

Simply put, if it’s gilded, I love it. And if it’s from Lindsay Letters? I have to have it. Her gorgeous lettering and prints always put a smile on my face. So when Gibson Events sent over this shoot inspired by her artwork, I immediately fell in love. From gold leaf treats to clean lines mixed with organic florals from Poppy Lane Design, it’s modern wedding goodness with a twist of chic. Head over to the gallery from Holli B Photography to see it all!

From Gibson Events… It’s amazing what a splash of gold metallic can do. Leave it to Lindsay Letters to find a way to make simplicity striking in her new collection of black and white prints and canvases, all readily available and freshly added to her online boutique this month. I don’t know about you, but there’s something so chic about infusing a mixture of clean lines and eclectic unpredictability, and that’s exactly what we set out to create for this shoot.

Inspired by young love, sweet romance, and the untraditional, we dreamt up a simple reception centered around the bride and groom, leaving room to focus on what matters most: their love for one another. And of course, Lindsay’s stunning artwork. Her pieces were undoubtedly the star of the show and we had such a wonderful time constructing a composited collection of prettiness for our bookshelf backdrop. We’ve put together a straightforward how-to for creating a similarly effortless look in your own home, and now all that’s left is for you to head over to Lindsay’s shop to purchase a few things for yourself.

Other additional elements for the day included fondue for two (complete with edible gold leaf treats), floral clad ladders, and a gallery wall set up by the bride herself, in a tulle skirt no less. We kept the color scheme light and natural, and chose to dress our couple in outfits that left room for the background to truly shine. Our bride wore a short, sheer white dress complete with crocodile embossed booties that had us swooning from the second we laid eyes on them (Rag + Bone can do no wrong in our books). Our groom was dashing in his linen jeans and knit waistcoat, achieving a perfected look of effortless cool.

Designing Your Bookshelves: A How To For The Distinguished Decorator

1. Pick a starting point. a piece you love, and go from there. big or small, this is the piece that holds it all together. From this comes your color scheme, mood, and feel.

2. Multiples. Adding multiples of items (in this case, glasses and cake stands) brings unity to keep from looking disheveled and unintentional.

3. Alternate useful things and pretty things. The shelf should serve as both a space for lovely things as well as a functional space to hold things you love and use.

4. Include items with meaning. Family photo, a cool souvenir from a past trip. Things that bring back good memories and make you happy.

5. Add little bits of life. Including flowers, air plants, and succulents is beautiful for your eye AND for the air.

Elegant and Colorful Wedding in Oklahoma City

Gibson Events never ceases to impress us. We see a lot of color schemes here, but the pops of crimson and green against the subdue blush tones is a new one, and we love it! The arrangements from Poppy Lane are also brilliant and give the overall event a feeling of jubilant loveliness (you can see what I mean in the full gallery). So sit back and enjoy Aaron Snow‘s beautiful photos from the day.

From Poppy Lane DesignOur favorite details are Katie’s blush wedding gown, an 1800’s original pine table for the altar table, and an intimate wedding of 75 guests, century-old landmark for the venue.

The tones were Indian summer inspired… Ivory, blush and light peach with a pop of crimson and greenery.

Rustic ballroom …a primitive farm table with stone urns inside a luxe downtown Oklahoma City landmark, antique mercury vases + gold candelabras with moss spheres and eucalyptus. Landon is a firefighter in Oklahoma City and the bride surprised him with this customized groom’s cake. Katie had a vision to bring new classics into the traditional space. The Venetian ballroom is the original ballroom of the 100 year old hotel. The couple carved aside a few short minutes to enjoy dinner together before heading into the reception… A really intimate detail that allows you special time with your new husband.

The Exchange Christmas Dinner Party Shoot

There’s nothing like the magic in the air the night before Christmas. It’s a special kind of magic that gets us giddy unlike anything else. So when Something Gold PhotographyJuniper DesignsLeslie Herring Events and a crew of fabulous vendors sent over this shoot celebrating the spirit of the season, we knew I’d be just the thing to kick your Christmas Eve off right. Get ready, SMPers. It’s about to get very merry up in here.

Something Gold Photography… This all began when a gorgeous, red velvet, tea-length dress in a magazine caught my eye. It was so elegant, yet trendy. My mind took off and created an elaborate story, and I knew then I had to execute it.

The story is about a stylish couple getting ready to have an intimate Christmas dinner with their close friends. As they finish the beautiful tablescape and place the last few ornaments on the tree, the young man surprises his girl by getting down on one knee for an early Christmas gift. He does so knowing that their closest friends will arrive shortly to celebrate!

When I proposed the idea to Leslie, of Leslie Herring Events, she jumped from her chair and instantly suggested this shoot take place at The Exchange. I could not have imagined a better backdrop to this couple’s urban, yet elegant Christmas dinner party. Leslie brought together some outstanding vendors, giving her styling expertise to help tell the story.

I felt honored as other amazing vendors came on board to help execute this shoot. IES nailed the ambiance with their magical lighting, while Running Wild Catering made a fantastic meal I wanted to eat myself! Leslie and Kelsey at Touies Design created perfection for the wine labels, invitations, gift tags, place settings and so much more!

While I wanted the scene to have an urban feel, I also wanted to showcase the couple’s love for traditional holiday decorations. Allison, owner of Juniper Designs, exactly understood my vision and created a sumptuous tablescape draped with beautiful greenery, which perfectly highlighted the Christmas spirit. I am so honored to have worked with such talented vendors who came together to tell this story perfectly. Now I’m counting down the days to Christmas!

WIUP + Oklahoma City Wedding from Brett Heidebrecht + Winners!

At the end of the day, my heart lies with the classics. There’s something about the pomp and circumstance of a traditional wedding that truly can’t compare. And when it’s all planned by Embellished Wedding and put to film by Brett Heidebrecht, I’m a total goner. Wrap up your week with a little trip to the full gallery, and keep an eye out for winners below!

From Brett Heidebrecht… Kelby’s style is so elegant. She is one of the most classic brides that I have had the pleasure of working with. She chose everything from the venues to the colors to the details to be classic and timeless. She hired Leslie of Embellished Weddings to help with the planning and design of the wedding day and they worked really well together.

From the beautiful, naturally lit room with lots of marble where she put her dress on, to the perfect light that we had after the wedding for portraits…we were really blessed with a beautiful day.

The day was filled with so many special moments. As a photographer you see so many of these things, but something about the way that Jeff & Kelby shared their first look as she walked down the staircase. It was filled with emotion and that love was so obvious throughout the day including anytime I was reloading film or setting up. I also witnessed one of the best father/daughter dances I have ever seen. So polished and they smiled the whole time.

It was a beautiful day and I hope that it is one that sets itself apart from the average Midwest wedding.

Dinner Party 4 Ways from Gibson Events

I loved the concept of today’s feature from the moment I laid eyes on it. One gorgeous event. Four wildly different lenses. One piece of stunning dinner party inspiration from Gibson Events, 4 photographers to capture it the way that their own incredibly unique eye sees it. It’s genius. Because even if a group of photographers stand in the same spot and photograph the same details, the story that they tell through their images will always be different. It will always be unique to the artist that shoots it. And Aaron Snow, Candi Coffman, Greer Inez & Josh McCullock did just that. 1 Party, 4 ways.

From LindsayAs an event designer I’m frequently asked for recommendations for photographers, and to describe each photographer’s style. I thought it might be interesting to style a shoot and have several photographers capture it in the way they saw fit. My hope was for the result was to have a side-by-side contrast of the same event through four lenses.

We gathered four couples (all former clients from the past year) and got to it. We assigned a couple to each photographer.
It took a pretty awesome looking spreadsheet but we managed for each photographer to have time with their couple alone, with everyone together, to shoot each vignette individually and to shoot each vignette with their couple.

For this shoot we had a specific aesthetic in mind and really lucked into our venue. Luckily the good people at Calvert’s Plant Interiors were willing to trust the vision and allowed us to come in on a Sunday, when they were closed, and basically take over the site.

A huge thank you to all of the vendors who helped pull the day together. We couldn’t be more pleased with the way it turned out!

From the bride… Our wedding took place on a beautiful, yet very hot, summer day on the 9th of July in Oklahoma City.  Eight months earlier, Brian and I took a trip to Amsterdam and Paris. Brian got down on one knee in the middle of a quaint Parisian restaurant and asked me to be his wife.  When it came time to begin planning, I had an idea of things I definitely wanted for the wedding: a live band, a videographer to capture the special moments on film, walking down the aisle in the church I grew up in, a bagpiper, ivory bridesmaids dresses, and a big party!  From there I just filled in the gaps.  My wedding dress really became the inspiration for all of the details of the wedding.  One thing that helped me during the planning process, besides having an amazing wedding coordinator, was the slideshow I made.  I started pulling images of all of the cakes, décor, flowers, etc from different blogs (mostly SMP) and slotted them into different slides. By the end of it, I had a slide for each one and when I went to present this to the wedding coordinator and vendors, it was such a helpful tool.

Brian and I had so many favorite/special/amazing memories from that day.  One special moment that we both found extremely emotional and memorable was writing notes to each other before the wedding.  It was a great way to take a little time and really focus on what that day was all about.  When it came time to walk down the aisle, it really hit me that this was about to happen!  My dad must have seen the nervous/anxious/excited look on my face and said “Don’t worry, I’m right here.”  I will never forget the feeling of walking down that aisle on my dad’s arm.  When Brian’s eyes met mine, all of the nerves began to melt away and I was left with this rush of emotion and happiness.  We loved the feeling of celebrating our love with family and friends.  They all meant so much to us and we wanted each them to leave the wedding saying “That was so much fun!” so we made sure that the band was a focal point to the reception.  We also incorporated neon sunglasses and glow sticks in to mix.  Waiters brought these out on silver platters and they were such a hit.  People loved them!   I honestly would not change one thing about that day.  Brian and I woke up that next morning and looked at each other and said “I want to do that all over again!”

My advice to all of the brides out there is going to be so cliché, and I am sure you all have heard this from at least one person but when you start this whole experience, from the day you begin planning to the minute you walk down the aisle, just remember to soak it all in because it will go by so fast!  It will all be a blur the morning after, so what I did was made sure to take a few minutes during the day and stop to really mentally take it all in.  Don’t get caught up in the stresses and problems that will happen during the planning process.  Try to keep your focus on what this day is really about … celebrating the love and union between you and your husband to be.  And last but not least, have a blast!
