A Seaside Wedding in Mexico That Is All About the Luxe Details

Now this is a couple that knows how to throw a party. That “host a fab wedding in paradise and bring all of your friends + family” kind of party. From their stunning Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort locale to their beautiful florals + decor crafted by the talents at Alquimia Events, they managed to seamlessly weave that laid-back destination vibe with luxe everything. See so much more captured by Quetzal Wedding Photos right here.

From Quetzal Wedding PhotosThis Dreams Playa Mujeres wedding was full on fun!! In their free time Gabe and Briana like to be with their family and friends. They also love to be outdoors, and just overall have a good time. Briana and Gabriel chose the white sandy beaches of Playa Mujeres for the backdrop of their celebration of love. Briana walked down the aisle in a stunning Calla Blanche gown. They were surrounded by their most important people. They chose earth tones and natural hues for their bridesmaids, and the men couldn’t have been more dapper with blue slacks and suspenders to match! They paid close attention to the details! You’ll know exactly what we mean when you see their stylish ring bearer! Briana had a gorgeous second outfit to get the party started. Gabe and Briana surprised their guests with amazing choreography that ends in a high lift above Gabe’s head!

This wedding had it all, but most importantly love. The speeches given by both friends and family members melted the hearts of all in the room. They walked off into the night after was all said and done hand-in-hand, and forever as one. The ceremony was performed at the central garden plaza of the Resort, followed by a cocktail hour which, of course, included a Mariachi Trio and delicious hors d´oeuvres! For the reception they came back to the central garden for the first dance as husband and wife! After dancing the night away they ended up the night with a sparkler send-off to a new beginning!

This Sunrise Elopement Is Giving Us All the Feels

Michelle and Dave’s gorgeous wedding just might go down in history as one of the sweetest days ever. All bright colors and stunning ocean views, they took their five-year engagement and made it official at Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa with just their super cute daughter and their talented photog and coordinator, Melissa Mercado, at their side. It was a day that was all about the LOVE, and we can’t get enough of every heartfelt moment.

From Melissa Mercado PhotographyMichelle and Dave had been engaged for five years when the time was finally right to say “I do.” They had planned a vacation to one of their favorite corners of Mexico – Tulum. Michelle told me this about her original ideas: “We have always wanted something simple. We would like to make our marriage official and celebrate our vows with our daughter in a place we love before we start the next chapter of our life. We really want something simple on the beach, a symbolic ceremony that we can say our vows to each other.”

I offer Elopement Packages that include the ceremony, an officiant, flowers, champagne and, of course, the photography! They’re intimate ceremonies that I tailor to my clients’ desires. We arrange a time and location and then see what magic the universe brings us! We had to change last minute, as the weather wasn’t going to cooperate for a late afternoon affair. But it worked out amazingly as we got to witness an amazing sunrise and felt the universe really blessed this union in all of it’s gorgeous splendor.

I loved Michelle’s desire to have Avery, their 4-year-old daughter, be such an integral part of her day. I loved her flower choices, and love even more that their beautiful family of four was all present on this day (she was a few months pregnant when they said “I do!”).

The Prettiest Boho Wedding You Will Ever See

In the world of beautiful boho weddings, this stunning Dreams Riviera Cancun celebration most definitely takes the cake. All copper accents and gorgeous blooms, it’s a laid-back party overflowing with glam details. Like one heck of a ceremony structure. Soak in every seaside moment from Dawn Derbyshire Photography right here.

From Dawn Derbyshire Photography… From a chance first meeting at Texas Roadhouse, to many shared birthdays, to a sweet Easter egg hunt proposal, Jackie and Tyler had a beautiful romance leading up to their stunning beach nuptials in Mexico. The pair tied the knot at the Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort on a windy, warm, beautiful day, surrounded by family and friends.

Jackie, along with her ladies, got ready at the resort, doing their own hair and makeup. (The bride is an amazing hair stylist, so she and her ladies knocked it out of the park with their hair and make up!) The bridal party wore muted, natural colors and Jackie gifted the ladies with beautiful mixed metallic jewelry to go with each bridesmaid’s dress. After a gift exchange with Tyler, the bride put on her gorgeous dress and headed to the deck for the ceremony.

The decor for both the ceremony and reception was very bohemian with a subtle industrial vibe. Jackie pulled her inspiration for the decor from a combination of the gorgeous scenery and inspirational images that she found online. Copper chairs, geometric glass terrariums filled with lush flowers, industrial lighting, and a gorgeous raw wood table decorated the existing structure for the ceremony. Before the wedding, the pair said their most anticipated moment of the day was when the bride walked down the aisle and the pair saw each other. The look (and tears!) of joy that were shed were so sweet. Jackie and Tyler kept the ceremony simple and heartfelt, writing their own vows and exiting to the 44 guests throwing rose petals.

After the ceremony, the bridal party headed to the beach for photos. In addition to portraits on the beach, Jackie and Tyler opted to take some photos in the lush palms all over the property. Once portraits wrapped up, the couple headed to their gorgeous beachfront reception. The mixed metallics, raw wood and lush floral elements were continued into the reception decor. Once everyone was seated for dinner, the pair had their first dance to the Red Hot Chili Peppers “Hard to Concentrate,” followed by everyone partying the night away.

A Fashion Blogger Turned Boho-Chic Bride

Ever the laid back Bride, Meggan of Somewhere, Lately, opted to let her planner, Lauren, from Amy Abbott Weddings + Events take the lead on creating the relaxed, boho-chic wedding she was dreaming of. As you can see from the breathtaking photos captured by Anna Gomes and the video by Cinematic Touch, Lauren did not disappoint. From the all-white Show Me Your Mumu Bridesmaids’ dresses to the rustic ceremony arch, every detail was beachy perfection. We seriously cannot pick a favorite!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/231308920 600 338]

From the Bride… Kyle and I decided on getting married in Cabo because we love the beach. I was a very laid back bride and let my wedding planner, Lauren, take the reins. I knew whatever she picked would be gorgeous and had total trust in her. I told her lots of florals, gold, lace, and wood accents for a relaxed, boho-chic vibe. She made my vision come to life, and I couldn’t have been more pleased.

We got married on the beach at Cabo Azul, which is in San Jose del Cabo. It’s private compared to the beach downtown, so you don’t have to worry about beach-goers in the background of your pictures. My grandpa officiated our wedding, which made it extra special. After the ceremony, our guests walked right up to Javiers for cocktail hour, which included a mariachi band, yummy cocktails, and appetizers. The reception was right next to cocktail hour, which made it easy for guests to get around. We started the reception with our first dance and then had everyone come and join us on the dance floor. It was so much fun to get some dancing in before dinner started and really set the tone for the party! Kilometro Band played, and they did not disappoint. After dinner and speeches, we danced the night away. It was a night we will never forget!

Elegant “I Dos” in Mexico Complete With the Beach + Blooms

Just because the bash is on the beach, doesn’t mean all elegance has to go out the window. Quite the contrary with this seaside soiree in Mexico. With gorgeous blooms by Canteiro, every delicate detail is elevated and the finished results? Simply stunning. Stephanie Brazzle captured them all and we have no doubt that these pics will be gracing your Pinterest pages for months to come.

From Stephanie Brazzle… Being in a tropical place like Playa Mujeres is always very inspiring. The Finest Playa Mujeres Hotel and Spa has lush gardens with fresh flowers in every corner. Feeling the breeze, the sand on your feet, and the sound of the waves; it really brings you back to nature. Amy and Adil are a fun couple to say the least. They work hard and play hard. I knew it was going to be not only a beautiful wedding but a fun wedding. I arrived to the suite that morning to see beautiful flower crowns for every bridesmaid by Canteiro Weddings. The groomsmen were dressed in blue and white attire and the bridesmaids in a pale blush. It was an intimate wedding filled with joy and tequila and perfect amount of sea breeze.

A Mint-Hued Beach Wedding Bursting With Romance

A romantic beach wedding is never a bad idea, and Julie and Matt managed to inspire us all with a celebration that merges the two in the sweetest way possible. It’s all beautiful blooms, gorgeous sunsets and mint-hued details transported straight from an English garden to the beaches of Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa. Elizabeth Medina captured every beautiful moment and it makes for one awe-inspiring collection of photographs below.

From the Bride… Thank you to our parents, family, and friends who sacrificed time and expense to travel to Mexico and celebrate with us; it was the vacation of a lifetime! Our Mexico crew has a special bond and we should all go back. Thank you for the constant advice and help on wedding related decisions. Thank you to Elizabeth Medina Photography for capturing the day beautifully and for being a calming presence throughout the day, and to the Dreams Tulum staff who took such good care of us!

My favorite memory was accidentally waiting until the night before the wedding to write our vows. Of course, I was in a panic, but Matt wrote his down without a sweat. He also managed to calm me down so I could write mine. When we read them to each other during the ceremony, they ended up being a mirror to one another and it was really special to me. I will also always cherish the memory of having dinner on the beach during our reception. We were sipping wine surrounded by people we love so much, with our feet in the sand, listening to the waves and Frank Sinatra playing in the background.

From the Groom… Seeing Julie walk down the aisle was my favorite memory. Even though I had seen her just before that – when we did our first look – when she came around the corner with her dad she looked so happy and beautiful.

Two Beach Lovers Say “I Do” In an Elegant Seaside Wedding in Mexico

When you love the beach as much as Dennis and Mallary, a destination wedding in Mexico is sort of a no-brainer. So these two cuties grabbed their friends and family and left the chilly PA weather for a sun-filled getaway at the Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa. It was an elegant celebration captured by Del Sol Photography with their fave spot as the backdrop. We can’t get enough.

Dennis and I met, got engaged, and spend every free moment we have on a beach. Whether its spending our summers at the Jersey shore or traveling to an island, we are always chasing the warm weather and the closest body of water! For that reason, it only made sense to us to have our wedding on a beach. We couldn’t wait to get away from Pennsylvania in January and celebrate with our family and friends who are so very important to us.

Our wedding was pretty simple. We want to focus on the natural surroundings, colors, and cultures of Mexico. Our colors are cobalt blue and ivory. We had a Mariachi band perform during the cocktail hour and also surprised out guests with fire dancers after dinner!

We chose Del Sol Photography, because we fell in love with the colors and creativity of your photography. Dennis and I hate weird cheesy poses, and appreciate how they captured our candid moments. We understand that its important to have shots that are planned, but we want to look like ourselves and be comfortable! It was extremely important to us to spend as much time at our wedding and with our guests as possible so we had most of the bride and groom, bridal party and family shots taken before our ceremony.

Yoga + Bonfires Make for an Unforgettable Wedding Weekend

This couple wanted their wedding to be an oasis for their guests, allowing their loved ones to connect with others and relax for several days rather than stay for just a few hours and rush back to their busy lives. Rancho Pescadero, which the couple stumbled upon while on vacation in Mexico, was the ideal location for the getaway they envisioned. With the help of the resort staff, their wedding weekend captured by Dev Khalsa Photography was one to remember filled with bonfires, yoga, relaxing by the pool, and celebrating!

Colors
Styles
Tropical

From the Bride… Evan and I are two professionals living in San Francisco. We met the old-fashioned way, through a mutual friend who thought we would have a lot to share with each other. She was right! We love being outdoors and traveling the world together.

We discovered Rancho Pescadero at the end of a dusty dirt road by accident while on a vacation in Mexico a few years ago. I knew it was where I wanted to get married. I really wanted to create a space where people could take some time away from their daily lives, meet or reconnect with other good people, and make new lifelong memories. Having our wedding at this remote oasis allowed people to stay for days and relax rather than a local wedding where people would stay for a few hours and then rush back to their busy lives. With the help of the great staff at the resort, we put together a wonderful weekend of bonfires, yoga, volleyball, laying by the pool, eating, drinking, and celebrating!

Evan comes from the Jewish tradition, and I come from a yoga tradition, and we created our own ceremony that honored both our cultures with two friends officiating and representing each. During the weekend I taught yoga class, and we had yogic chanting during the ceremony, but we also broke the challah bread to start dinner and, my favorite, danced the hora. We also did the lavaan rounds, blessing of the wine, breaking of the glass, and flower petal shower as we exited the ceremony. It was certainly a unique event and a perfect blend of our traditions. My favorite moment was standing under the canopy during the ceremony looking at each other, the whole world seemed to disappear and there was nothing but the two of us in that moment. After the ceremony I felt such a high walking back down the aisle while our friends cheered and showered us with flower petals.

A couple of my favorite details were our place cards and our table numbers. Our place cards each had a yoga posture or meditation and the explanation of its benefits. Instead of table numbers, each table was named with one of the qualities we want to bring to our marriage – Love, Kindness, Humor, Passion, Trust, etc.

I didn’t have a color palette or a style vision; my goal was to let the natural beauty of our location be our backdrop. The color palette that came out of nature was perfect – the fuchsia bougainvillea flowers growing on the property, the driftwood and billowy white cotton canopy for our ceremony, and the soft beige sand and blue water of the ocean. Instead of cut flowers for our centerpieces, we bought potted plants at the local nursery that the owners of Rancho Pescadero planted on the property afterward.

My gown was Ulla-Maija, purchased second hand from another Bride. It was classic, and the soft cream lace with sand colored lining was perfect in the setting. After the wedding, I passed the gown on to another Bride. I really liked this sharing and continuity. If I could give a Bride any advice, it would be to relax and just be present during this special time. It’s not the details that matter, but the experiences you’ll have with friends and family and the memories you’ll keep for a lifetime.

This Is the Ultimate Beach Wedding Inspiration

A little bit dreamy and a whole lot beautiful, this destination wedding inspiration session Crosby + Jon Design at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba is the ultimate in beach weddings. The lavender, aubergine, and mauve color palette effortlessly complemented the natural surroundings, and Tec Petaja worked his magic to capture the whole thing brilliantly.

From Crosby + Jon DesignWhen we first visited Banyan Tree Mayakoba, it felt like a dream. So a year later, when we were given the opportunity to create this special shoot for the property, it truly felt like a dream come true. Our attraction to Banyan Tree is how the property balances nature with luxury in the most effortless way; it is the ideal place for a destination wedding.

Inspired by the property’s zen-like quality, we embarked on the design journey by focusing on the natural setting of the Riviera Maya. The color palette was derived from the soft white sands, pastel skies, and lush mangroves. We knew it was essential to collaborate with a photographer that would understand the aesthetic, and the obvious choice was Tec Petaja. With his limitless talents, he brought his worldly and artistic approach, and each photo seems to capture a dream-state. Tec Pataja seemed to command the sea and sky, blending the colors that can only be created by nature, and light so rare that it somehow seems exclusive to Banyan Tree Mayakoba. Indeed, our destination wedding dreams were realized.

As our Bride, Felicitas Oyhenart, made her way to the ceremony in a traditional Ixchel boat, she wore a taupe tulle gown from Tara Latour, the perfect mix of femininity and texture as she drifted through the romantic waterways to meet her Groom, Joel Cecottimade. Undone sand paths led her to the beach ceremony, where the sky was awash in lavender. For the ceremony, we wove white tulle on a simple teak canopy, with unconventional mixed tufted seating from Archive Mexico. Moni Junco brought her floral prowess to the day, providing a bridal bouquet as lovely as the Riviera Maya dawn with a mix of lavender, blush, and mauve. She added flowing arrangements to mirror each side of the aisle entrance.

For the reception, overhead café lights created a frame for dinner on the sand. We placed a handful of round weathered wood tables on the beach and added a mix of cane-back and bistro chairs. The tabletop, all from Archive Mexico, included vintage goblets of silver and grey, glazed stoneware, and modern rose-gold flatware. Centerpieces of aubergine florals were flowing from etched copper bowls and dainty lavender bottles. A found piece of lavender fan coral started as table decor but became our favorite alternative to the Bride’s bouquet.

Infusing Black-Tie Elegance With Tropical Beach Vibes

For a couple with a shared love of Mexico, getting married at this dream Cabo spot was a definite must. It’s a celebration that has all the makings of a glamorous black-tie affair planned by One and Only Palmilla and florals by Pina Cate Design, but with some seriously gorgeous tropical beach vibes. From Dom Pérignon to fireworks on the beach, watch this Mexico celebration unfold through images by Chris + Lynn and a film by Pink Palm Weddings too.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/214358972 600 338]

This California couple had their destination wedding at a place dear to their hearts for the past 12 years: One and Only Palmilla. One of Los Cabos’ most exclusive luxury resorts, the oceanfront property’s Turtle Beach, historic Chapel, and Agua by Larbi Restaurant were the settings for the bride and groom’s classic black-tie event. The 150 guests enjoyed ocean views, tequila tastings, mariachis, and fireworks to celebrate the couple’s love at this Mexico destination wedding.

From the Bride… John and I had always dreamed about getting married in Cabo since it holds such a special place in our hearts. John and his family have been going to their home in San Jose del Cabo since he was born. Their home shares the same beach as One and Only Palmilla – probably the prettiest stretch of sand in all of Los Cabos! Over the past 12 years, we’ve been fortunate enough to travel down there multiple times a year, building many, many amazing memories. We know that it is a place we will continue to visit and hope to make it as special for our family one day as his family has for us. Everything about the resort is perfection. The expansive views, the beautiful setting, the decor, the food, and most notably, the people – the staff at Palmilla are the most genuinely delightful people I have ever met! One time we walked up to the chapel and I was in awe over how beautiful it was. When we were walking back to the house after, John mentioned to me how he’d love to get married there one day. From that moment, I dreamt of us there with our closest family and friends, making it official – and that’s exactly what we did. It was literally a dream come true. The scenery at the Palmilla is so stunning, I didn’t want to overpower it with too much decor and color. I wanted to keep it traditional, authentic, and real. The ceremony was elegant with the classic chiavari chair setup and floral lined staircases leading up to the chapel. Just enough florals to enhance the already gorgeous chapel setting… When I saw the restaurant Agua by Larbi at Palmilla, I knew I wanted my reception to be there. The indoor area completely opens up to the outdoor area, which is surrounded by palm trees. I fell in love just envisioning twinkle lights above the patio where I’d have a dance floor set up. I don’t think I have ever seen a vision come to life so seamlessly and perfectly as this one did. It was perfect. Make sure you find an amazing planner that is local to the location. If you’re getting married in a different country with a different language, make sure she/he speaks fluently in both language (and well!). I can’t tell you how much more amazing my experience was due to the hard work and efforts put forward by Samantha {my planner at the One and Only Palmilla). She did an incredible job at bringing our dream wedding to life!

Black + White Cabo Wedding With All the Modern Vibes

It might feel strange to describe a wedding design as “sexy” but that’s exactly what this black and white Cabo celebration is. With vows on the beach followed by a reception on the rooftop, the incredible Hotel El Ganzo was exactly what Claire and Eric were looking for in their destination “I do.” Modern brides, consider this gallery by Emma Rose your new inspiration happy place.

From Emma Rose… San Jose del Cabo has always been Claire and Eric’s favorite spot so when it came time to plan their own wedding, they couldn’t imagine a better location to bring all their closest family and friends to celebrate. Located in San José del Cabo, Hotel El Ganzo is unlike anything else you will find in the greater Cabo area. They have created a place that celebrates diversity, creativity, artistry, and sustainability. It’s a place where individual expression reigns and guests can indulge and enjoy Los Cabos like never before.

One of the things you will first notice about Hotel El Ganzo is a unique style. El Ganzo itself actually means “The Goose”, a nod to the property’s long, white, sinewy exterior alongside the catching work of collaborative artists led by Pablo Sanchez-Navarros, who created the space. The hotel blends a modernist style with rustic elements, with clean white architecture juxtaposing in eye-catching ways with warm wood tones and bright accents.

When my second shooter and I arrived, we knew that this was going to be one of the most beautiful and unique weddings we’d ever photograph in our careers.

From the bride… In order to not distract from the beauty of the venue, we wanted to keep our decor and everything else really clean and simple. Our color palette was black and white with some natural wood touches and a bit of gold sprinkled in here and there. Overall, our vision was we just wanted to all of our friends and family to have an amazing time so we focused more on ways we thought would enhance their experience instead of focusing on going overboard on decorations or other details.

Our ceremony was at the beach club at Hotel El Ganzo, on a palm tree lined grass strip that juts out into the ocean. When we saw the location for the first time, Eric and I fell in love with it. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen. Our guests all took boats out to the location and back which we thought was a fun extra touch.

Everyone took boats to and from the ceremony which was fun. We had beers and margaritas for our guests out on the grass for before and after the ceremony which people seemed to really enjoy. Eric’s dad officiated the ceremony which made it all the more special for us. When Eric walked down the aisle with his parents we had a Spanish guitarist playing his parents wedding song, and when I walked down with my dad they played my parents wedding song. I loved the little details like that!

The reception was on the rooftop at Hotel El Ganzo. The view from up there is incredible and we loved the drastic change from the ceremony being by the beach to the reception having a more modern vibe. Everyone got to the reception and took their seats right as the sun was setting, which was spectacular. Our coordinator did a wonderful job with the decor and everything was picture perfect.

My advice for other brides planning a destination wedding is to have fun with it and don’t stress the little details. As long as you’re in this beautiful location with your closest family and friends – that’s really all that matters!

From n.barrett PhotographyMadalyn and Job had a magical wedding weekend in San Miguel de Allende. On Friday, friends and family gathered for the callejoneada, which is a walking serenade through the city, where tequila flows like water. It is a folkloric event unique to Guanajuato, Mexico. Painted papier-mâché replicas of the Bride and Groom dance through the streets with family and friends close behind. It’s the most theatrical and colorful celebration!

The couple was married the next day at the beautiful Villa Xido, a private garden residence just at the edge of town. The home sits on a hilltop overlooking the vast fields of Mexico. The reflection pool is a bonus to the expansive views. The couple did a first look at Casa No Name, a hidden retreat in the heart of town. Then we set out to create the perfect portrait in front of the iconic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel. The ceremony was followed by a cocktail hour. This included signature mango and tamarind margaritas and a full Mariachi band. A tented reception followed complete with first dance sparklers! What a weekend!

5 Things You Shouldn’t Forget When Planning a Destination Wedding

Planning a destination wedding has it’s many advantages… scenery you might not have locally, dreamy weather, a perfect spot to roll into the honeymoon, you name it. But the planning process can also be a bit stressful when your Big Day location is hundreds or thousands of miles away. Take it from the experts at Belmond Maroma Resort & Spa in Mexico—a stunner venue that checks off all the boxes. They’re letting us in on five things you shouldn’t forget while prepping for your destination I do’s!

Pick the Perfect Spot

The location of the wedding venue is one of the most important considerations. A wedding venue may meet all your requirements and must be available on the day that you need.

Plan with the seasons

The weather around the world can change drastically depending on location. Try to find out as much about the weather in the country as possible, as this can easily sway your decision for picking a wedding date. Research is important and working with professionals who can help you navigate your choices EARLY in the process is key, although weather is unpredictable, it is always good to travel to the destination by the same season you are planning your wedding day.

Dress Appropriately, Dress for the Location

Keep in mind your location’s climate when choosing a dress. You can go as elegant or casual as you want, but choose lighter fabrics like chiffon, organza, crepe, silk georgette or tulle. Most wedding dresses are strapless now, which helps keep you somewhat comfortable if you’re getting married in a warm location. But consider a short wedding dress, or one with fewer layers of tulle.

Plan Another Event

Part of the fun of a destination wedding is the time you get to spend with your close friends and family: welcome cocktails or rehearsal dinner prior to the big day, to thank your guests for making the trip. You shouldn’t over-plan for your guests, you need to leave them free time to explore and do their own thing.

Research Local Marriage Requirements

Marriage regulations requirements do vary from country to country. Be sure to check the requirements of the location where you are getting married, as far in advance as possible.

Time Seems to Stop for This Mexico City Bridal Inspo

Flickering candlelight, rich hued blooms, and a picturesque historical venue where times seems to have stopped set the stage for this Mexico City bridal shoot, dreamed up by Aurelia Eventos and Nancy Liu Chin Floral + Event DesignKevin Chin Photography effortlessly captured their vision of a quaint and romantic reception, and we have it all for you right here in the Vault.

From Nancy Liu Chin Floral + Event DesignWhen I was planning my own wedding to photographer Kevin Chin, I wanted a small wedding with one single long table and just a dozen family and close friends sharing a beautiful but thoughtful meal. I pictured a romantic gown that was either strapless or slightly cap sleeved, fresh yet bold accented flowers that were lush and flowey, and light from tapered candles flicking as the sun set in a picturesque villa far, far away from my own urban city life in San Francisco. Kevin also wanted a small wedding with little fanfare as the most interesting part of the wedding is the journey, and a destination wedding would be on heck of a beautiful journey. Though Kevin and I didn’t quite have that dream wedding (blame the parents), we still dream that dream.

Often when I design a wedding, I hope for a client who will take me to a romantic villa in the South of France, Tuscany, English countryside, or rural Mexico, so when the opportunity came to collaborate with Claudia Chapa of Aurelia Eventos on an inspired wedding shoot in Mexico City, I couldn’t stop myself. I should say WE couldn’t stop ourselves, so we jumped in without pause.

Our inspired design included Mexican tile work, vintage books wrapped with twine, mojito hued velvet ribbon in a spool, romantic lace, and citrus colors. Mexico City itself was a surprisingly wonderful and welcoming backdrop. Often people forget that Mexico, in particularly Mexico City, was greatly influenced by Europe – especially Spain and France. Claudia was our wonderful coordinator and eye on the street, and she searched high and low for a venue in Mexico City that felt like it belonged in a rural, romantic, quaint Mexican village but was in fact in historical, downtown Mexico City. The charming Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana, which holds large wedding receptions, was the perfect venue. We hope you love it as much as Claudia and we do.

A Colorful Tulum, Mexico Lovefest

The weekend is so close I can nearly taste it, and this wedding photographed by Kyle John has me ready to kick back with a cocktail and live like I’m on island time. Set in Tulum – a meaningful location for the couple – this beach affair is everything you want in a destination wedding with Vanessa Jaimes Floral Design brining loads of color, whimsy, and style into the mix. Head this way for even more and consider this a Happy Friday, indeed!

From the bride… Have you ever met someone for the first time and had déjà vu? Jeff and I think this isn’t the first time we have fallen in love, as if we end up finding each other again and again in each life. When we first found ourselves in the same room, neither one of us could take our eyes off of each other. From that moment on Jeff would whisk us away to last minute getaways, calling and telling me to be ready in an hour, never telling me of our destination. It was, and still is, the most romantic and exciting feeling to have someone who chooses to run away with you and only you over and over again. The first time he did this was to Mexico where we spent time in Tulum. Fast forward seven years later and true to form, Jeff surprised me with a last minute getaway to Keystone, Colorado where he got down on one knee and promised to stand by my side forever.

We thought we’d celebrate our commitment to each other at the first destination he ever whisked us away to, Mexico! We wasted no time; my mother, sisters, great aunt, cousin, and myself went to work right away to make my wedding dress from scratch. In my family, it’s tradition that my great aunt, Leila, make all the brides dresses. My only requests were that my dress had ostrich feathers (each put together by my mother, Lesa) at the bottom of the dress and pearls (hand strung by my cousin, Val) draping down my back. So we went to work, hand picking every piece of material from local fabric shops in Colorado as my aunt magically put it all together. Leila had sewn her own clothing tag into my dress with her name on it that my great grandmother had gifted her years before. This dress is special in so many ways, touched by the most important women in my life.

Jeff and I design and repurpose historic homes together sharing a deep passion for vintage style, which played a huge role in our wedding theme. We searched for beach wedding venues and ideas that could incorporate some non-traditional elements to the beach that fully encompassed our love for antiques and vintage décor. Enter owner and founder, Kristee Smith with Fresa Weddings. Every beach wedding photo we loved had one thing in common, they were all designed by Kristee and her team. We felt really lucky to have her as an expert to help coordinate florals, cake, venue, photography, food, hair and makeup, transport, décor and everything else under wedding planning from a distance. The hospitality and food at Akiin Beach venue was amazing, my guests are still raving about the food and staff! Kristee and her team, our photographer Kyle John, hair and makeup from BeSo Brides with Michael and Martina all worked together to create the vision we had and really brought everything to life. We really believe that no one else could have pulled off what we wanted like this group of people did, so we are forever grateful.

Being on a white, soft, sandy beach we were able to add fun details like a shoe valet at the beginning of the ceremony where everyone could ditch their shoes! Even as the bride, I didn’t wear shoes from the moment I got to the venue (talk about happy feet). Dinner and dancing were also on the beach, toes in the sand the entire time, market lights and a full moon. It was truly romantic from start to finish. We also had a cigar bar where someone was hand rolling cigars for guests right on the beach! It was great entertainment during cocktail hour while the wedding party and family were off taking pictures, our guests loved it. The altar and furniture were our favorite design pieces as we wanted something to define the space that would incorporate our vintage flair without taking away from our pretty backdrop of the ocean. Kristee and her florist Vanessa Jaimes designed exactly what we had envisioned! A half-circle garland with driftwood accents, greenery, and white anemones framed our ceremony with every flower more gorgeous than the next. All the furniture was a rich, dark wood, really popping from the white sand with plush, pastel furniture materials and natural brown leather undertones. It was a dream.

Jeff says his favorite part of the wedding was all the kissing we did during our photos on the beach (My poor mother was front and center for this as she helped hold props for the photographer, sorry Mom!). My favorite moment was seeing Jeff for the first time standing at the alter as the first man I ever loved held my hand and walked me down the aisle to him. Our advice for brides and grooms would be to create a wedding that is exactly what the two of you want and to stick to it. Enjoy every moment, it goes by so fast!

This Mexican Destination Wedding Is a Foodie’s Dream

As a self-proclaimed foodie, I’m seriously wishing I had been invited to this intimate celebration by Marweddings in Punta Mita, Mexico. Guests were greeted with a welcome basket containing local sweets when arriving at the oceanfront home, and that was just the beginning. On the day of the wedding, decadent appetizers were passed around during cocktail hour followed by a four course dinner, a decked out dessert table, and a late night treat – tacos and churros! Elizabeth Lloyd Photography captured the delicious day, and you can see it right here.

From MarweddingsTaylor and Daniel knew from the beginning of the planning process that they wanted an elegant wedding at a beautiful oceanfront home in the privacy of Punta Mita. They loved Casa Majani instantly, and the planning started while visiting this Villa. Food, drinks, and entertainment were a must for the couple, and they offered the best available in the area.

Upon arrival, guests had a beautiful welcome bag including a bottle of tequila, blown glass tequila shot glasses, salty snacks, a variety of Mexican local sweets, and a comfortable beach blanket in their rooms to enjoy their vacation. The wedding itinerary included welcome drinks with a bonfire at St. Regis and a rehearsal dinner at a Kupuri private beach cub. Men played golf while women enjoyed the variety of treatments at the spa.

On the wedding day, a quintet of strings welcomed guests with traditional instrumental, romantic Latin music. Guests were greeted with aperol spritz and margaritas. A Spanish duet of guitars invited people to take their seats for the intimate oceanfront wedding ceremony. Daniel’s tears and Taylor’s laugh during the ceremony were the sweetest moments of the night.

Going into the reception, a tequila and mezcal sommelier entertained guests during cocktail hour while waiters passed marinated octopus carpaccio tostadas with arugula and suckling pig tacos with smoked tomatoes and pork rind sauce. At twilight, guest sat at beautifully decorated tables with silk runners, black calla lilies, and black tulips – an uncommon combination for Mexico. Daniel gave the most romantic and respectful thank you speech to Taylor while bursting into tears.

Soft Mexican music was played during the dinner courses. The Bride and Groom offered an exquisite four course Mexican gourmet dinner with wines from Valle de Guadalupe and some exclusive Magnun wine bottles they brought from their own collection. Some of the most selected tequila brands were offered throughout the night including Don Julio 1942, Clase Azul plata, and José Cuervo Reserva de la familia. A romantic first dance was followed by everyone joining on the dance floor, and the sweet dessert table offered a personal recipe from the bride and the traditional tres leches from Mexico. Later in the night, guests enjoyed tacos and churros… after unbuttoning their shirt collars.

This Seaside Ceremony + Reception are #DestinationGoals

Kicking back with a tasty cocktail and playing beach volleyball sounds like the perfect way to spend a sunny morning and for Evan and Shiann, it also happened to be the kick-off to their crazy cool wedding day. Yep, this awesome couple soaked in some Vitamin D before walking down the aisle and it was as laid-back and beautiful as their entire celebration at Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa. Soak in every moment captured by J.M. Hunter Photography here in THE VAULT.

Evan + Shiann opted out of the traditional hometown wedding and went for warm beaches and clear waters instead. With a relaxed morning of volleyball and cocktails, this wedding was everything a beach wedding should embody. With not much focus on the details and more focus on the two, it was a very emotional ceremony dedicating themselves to one another.

Like any other wedding there is always some form of speed bump along the way and weather, of course, was a big factor on their day. During the summer months Cancun and Tulum get hit with a lot of rain storms. This isn’t a few sprinkles here and there, but rather a downpour and high strong winds that can come and go in the blink of an eye. There was a very high concern from the day-of coordination about having the reception and dinner outside. However, Shiann and Evan were determined to have their reception the way they envisioned it and took the chance anyways. I am so glad they did because immediately following the ceremony came shots of tequila and and an intimate dinner with sand between their toes accompanied by an ocean breeze. It was beautiful.
