Rustic Glam Summer Wedding at Evergreen Museum + Library

I’m declaring green and gold my favorite color combo and it’s all due to this wedding right here. Michael and Carina Photography captured one romantic image after another at this summer celebration, where the cute couple, who we met back at their adorable engagement shoot, only had eyes for each other. Thanks to these pretty pics I’m in a fantastic mood this Friday morning – see more right this way!

From Michael and Carina PhotographyThis wedding is just so gorgeous, we had to share it with you! Unfettered greenery bouquets, glittery dresses, a beautifully decorated reception hall and gold accents everywhere. Lauren and Nate really poured themselves into their big day!

Lauren, the bride, is in love with Style Me Pretty; she shared her engagement session with SMP readers. She is so excited about photography and style, it was just a joy!

Gold, navy and green are a match made in wedding-heaven! And this gorgeous bride and groom (as well as the bridal party) absolutely rocked these colors! This wedding was modern, but classic. Fun, but elegant.

Lauren and Nate married at the beautiful Evergreen Museum in Maryland in the garden behind the museum. The stunning museum was the perfect backdrop! They have been inseparable for years and finally said “I do” in front of all their friends and family in the summer heat. We photographed their portraits in an area that reminds of a classic Italian villa. Beautiful architecture and cyan greenery.

Everyone celebrated in a beautifully decorated tent, with white fabric hanging from the ceiling and candles spread out on the farm tables. The beginning of their marriage couldn’t have been any more perfect!

From the Bride… Our love story began in grad school, where we met, and then promptly engaged in a discussion about marriage equality, which came full circle when, two weeks after we got married, everyone in the US received the right to legally marry! That discussion was the springboard for three years of long distance dating and commutes across state lines to spend time with one another while we pursued our degrees and careers. Two years ago, we moved to Baltimore together, we moved into a perfect row-house in our favorite neighborhood. It’s where Nate proposed in a perfect, private moment with just our pup, Lady, looking on.

It turns out that Nate had been planning the engagement for almost a year. He designed my ring himself, working with my mom and a jeweler to bring a picture I had saved a long time ago to life. To add even more romance, the stone in my ring is the stone my dad gave my mom on their engagement. My engagement ring could not be more fraught with meaning, or more special to me.

We got married exactly one year later, and what we knew from the very beginning was that we wanted our wedding to be very personal. We had a lot of DIY elements, like the gold foil invitations, programs and signs that I designed, the hand-painted corn hole set my dad made for us, hand-stamped favors, and decorations we’d collected throughout the year. We also knew we wanted our family and friends to experience Baltimore the way we do. We held our rehearsal dinner at Heavy Seas Alehouse, one of our favorite places in Baltimore, made sure everyone got to taste local beers and Maryland crabs at our cocktail hour, and guests received Berger cookies stamped with a thank you message as a true Baltimore takeaway. Our ceremony was also deeply personal and intimate.

In addition to having our wedding day reflect the things we love, we knew we wanted to frame the personal touches in a natural, simple and romantic setting. For us, the Evergreen Museum and Library was the perfect venue for this. It is a beautifully landscaped and intimate location. To capture the natural and personal feeling in the carriage house where we ate dinner, we used the most beautiful handmade farm tables from the sweetest couple who started Barnes Handmade Tables in York, PA. Their tables are gorgeous, so we decided on classic and simple center pieces of lemon leaf garlands, seeded eucalyptus and a few calla lilies. One of the sweetest wedding gifts we received was from Nate’s stepmother and father, who bought us one of the farm tables as our dining room table.

One detail I knew from the beginning I wanted was for my bridesmaids to wear gold. I wanted them to feel lovely and special, and I wanted their dresses to add a little glitz and glamour to our otherwise neutral and simple palette. I asked them to pick out a gold or champagne dress that made them feel beautiful. They all chose different metallic gold dresses, and they looked absolutely stunning. The guys wore blue suits, with ivory ties, and orange socks – an homage to the Orioles. For my dress, I knew that I wanted something romantic and simple, and I found a beautiful lace Stella York dress which the very talented Luda at Dalinda’s customized with a beautiful sweetheart neckline. I added a champagne sash with crystal detail to add a little sparkle and I wore a pearl pendant that my grandmother wore on her wedding day, in my hair, and sewed a piece of my mom’s beautiful wedding dress into my own, over my heart. The glitzy and romantic attire was balanced by the lovely organic bouquets and boutonnieres which our florist Maryland Bay Blossoms arranged. They were beautifully made, and very simple and non-traditional – just whisps of rosemary, eucalyptus and lavender, and a few peonies for my bouquet.

My favorite part of our wedding day was the ceremony. Even though it was very very very hot, I couldn’t have had a better time. I felt so present, and I couldn’t take my eyes off Nate; I felt so connected.

I thought I would be so nervous walking down the aisle, but my dad made me laugh and smile the whole time. And then when he shook Nate’s hand, he said “Nate, do you see the smile on my daughter’s face? Please make sure she never stops smiling.” It was such a sweet moment.

The whole ceremony was very personal and special to us. We asked our mutual friend whom we both met in grad school, right before we started dating to officiate! Two of our good friends, recently married, read a few beautiful words about love and growing together. My godmother asked our guests to warm our rings, and it felt really special to have all of the people who have been a part of our individual stories, become a part of our story together.

Our recessional song was “Sexual Healing” performed by the Hot 8 Brass Band, which is a funky New Orlean’s parade-style version of the song. We love it, and as we walked down the aisle it made us laugh and smile, watching everyone sing along before they realized what they were singing!

Right after cocktail hour, we danced our first dance to “The Book of Love” by the Magnetic Zeroes. We had danced to this song one night on vacation several months earlier, when it was just the two of us on a covered porch listening to our iPod. We decided then that it was just the right balance of cheeky and romantic for us. After our first dance, our wedding party and parents joined us for a dance to “Luckiest” by Ben Folds. We didn’t have a traditional intro, and this ended up being the perfect way for us to have a special moment for our wedding party and parents with all of our guests looking on.

During dinner, my mom and dad welcomed everyone, and my brothers and Nate’s friends gave toasts. They were funny, and touching, and we laughed and cried and then we ate, and danced, and chatted with friends.

We didn’t want to go the traditional desert route, so we purchased three delicious almond amaretto cakes from a local bakery, and my dad, who is an amazing cook, made traditional Italian biscotti.

We danced and danced and danced after dessert, and I couldn’t have had a more fun evening. Everything about our wedding was so personal and thoughtful and perfect. I loved every minute of it.

Elegant Historic Clynmalira Estate Wedding

To say we’re obsessed with this Bride’s ruffled collar wedding gown is an understatement. It’s perfect for this elegant wedding at a historic estate owned by the Groom’s parents, while pops of yellow through a billy button bouquet and shoes bring a bright and cheery feel to the festivities captured by Mary Neumann Photography. See it all in the full gallery right here!

From Mary Neumann PhotographyIn designing her wedding, Paxton used her talents to create an elegant, lovely, unforgettable day. The day oozed class, from the ruffled collar on her stunning gown, to the navy suits on the Groom and his Men, and even a vintage Rolls Royce – the details were flawless. Add with the Historic Clynmalira Estate (owned by the Groom’s parents!) as a backdrop, this wedding was beyond gorgeous.

The guests included friends from Europe and the most loving of family and friends. In short – the ultimate celebration. Paxton and Matthew are some of the most genuine and lovely people I have had the pleasuring of working with, so that makes this day even more meaningful… a perfect day for the most perfect of couples.

From the Bride… Brian and I met during my second year of college at the University of Georgia. His sister, Emily, and I became friends while living in the same dorm our freshman year and the following year Brian and his parents came down to Athens to visit. After a group dinner where Brian and I met and discovered our mutual love for food, I knew he was special. We spent the next two years in a long distance relationship flying back and forth between Maryland and Georgia. One of our favorite things to do when I would visit him was to go to Annapolis. We would spend hours walking around and sitting on the benches down at city dock and eventually that became the exact place where Brian got down on one knee and proposed over five years later! Between our love for Annapolis and the fact that Brian grew up across the Bay Bridge on the Eastern Shore, where we spent countless weekends, we knew we wanted to get married somewhere near the water. We chose to get married at Chesapeake Bay Beach Club after falling in love with the gorgeous views! There aren’t enough words to describe how incredible our wedding day was and how much it meant to us to have our family and closest friends there to celebrate with us. From the delicious seafood to the Dolle’s caramel popcorn, Smith Island Cakes and country music, our wedding truly captured Brian and I as a couple. One of the most special things for me was that I got to wear the same beaded belt around my dress that my two best friends wore during each of their weddings. All of our vendors went above and beyond to make our day so special and we can’t thank them enough! I honestly don’t think I’ve ever smiled, giggled, or felt as much pure joy and happiness as much as I did throughout the day!

Nautical Navy + Peach Chesapeake Bay Wedding

If you’re a sucker for classic nautical details with a touch of peachy sweet floral goodness, then prepare to fall in love. Captured by Love By Serena on the summer shoreline of Chesapeake Bay, these sweet nuptials (preceded by an even sweeter mountaintop proposal story!) are the perfect blend of classic, preppy, sweet and dreamy, and I can’t stop pouring over every darling detail in the gallery here!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/101958791 600 338]

From Love By Serena… It was November 7th, 2010, and the Baltimore Ravens were taking on the Miami Dolphins at home. JJ went to the game with a co-worker, and after the game, JJ’s coworker convinced him to meet some of his friends for hot wings and a beer at Mothers’ Bar and Grill (aka the purple patio).

Katie was watching the game with friends. She had just moved to Baltimore from Harrisburg, and she was excited to explore this new city! Though she wasn’t the type to go out on a Sunday, her roommates persuaded her to go to the purple patio to meet up with some friends.

After arriving at Mother’s, J.J. and his coworker eventually found a table with his coworker’s friends. It came up in conversation that their new roommate, Katie, would be joining them in a bit. When Katie arrived and sat down right across from him, J.J. couldn’t help but fall in love with her infectious smile.

J.J. and Katie hit it off right away, and they chatted all night. J.J. got her phone number that night and he asked her out for sushi two days later.

After dating for nearly two years, J.J. knew Katie was the one, and bought her engagement ring in early December 2012, but didn’t know exactly how he would propose. He wanted it to be special, and he wanted to get a photo if possible. He had thought about proposing on Christmas, but he figured they would probably be in pajamas which would not make for the best picture in the world! J.J. was stumped, so until he could figure it out, J.J. hid the ring in a cabinet beneath his kitchen table!

J.J. and Katie had been planning to visit one of their favorite couples, Maddie and Billy, who moved from Baltimore to Tucson, AZ in late 2011. In mid-December, J.J. and Katie finally decided to book the flight so they could visit their friends between Christmas and New Years. During discussions with Maddie and Billy, Katie and J.J. had planned to drive up the picturesque Mt. Lemmon at some point during the trip. J.J. determined this would be the perfect place to propose!

On December 30th, the last full day of J.J. and Katie’s trip to Tucson, and the day they had planned to drive up Mt. Lemmon, J.J. shared his plan to propose with Maddie and Billy. They planned to have J.J. to convince Katie to get up on an iconic rock on the mountain for pictures. During the photoshoot, J.J. would bend down on one knee and ask Katie to marry him. Maddie made sure Katie looked beautiful before they left, and Maddie agreed to bring extra cameras.

When they reached the top, JJ and Katie were both nervous. Katie had just been boosted onto this rock with cowboy boots, and she had no idea how she was going to get back down! J.J. was of course afraid of dropping the ring off the mountain. After about 5 takes on the pictures, JJ finally worked up the courage to ask… and she said Yes!

 The rest is history!

Colorful Mansion Wedding in Maryland

Classic and elegant with the perfect pop of color, this Maryland wedding captured by Dyanna Joy Photography is nothing short of magic. From the love this couple obviously shares to their perfectly executed party at the Antrim 1844 Country House Hotel, this gallery of images is an absolute dream.

From Dyanna Joy PhotographyAlexis and Matt promised forever under the sky and clouds, on the grounds of the Antrim 1844, nestled at the foot of the rolling Catoctin Mountain in Central Maryland. Built in 1844, Antrim was once a thriving plantation and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

From the peach and ivory colored roses to the sunset, their wedding day had a warm glow to it. Alexis was stunning in her Allure princess ballgown and cathedral veil. Her bridesmaids were so delightful, both in personality and in their bright orange dresses.

Their was dancing and dinner. Guests enjoyed delicious cake, an open air photo booth, and sending off the bride and groom with a sparkler exit.

She knew he liked her, but he was never quite sure if she liked him back.

Although Lexi and Matt met through mutual friends the summer before their sophomore year at the University of Maryland, it took some time before Matt was able to build up the courage to ask Lexi out on a date.

Matt found himself studying more at the library on campus to be around her. And Lexi acted like she enjoyed playing Settlers of Catan and intramural basketball.

Then one day, a friend of Matt’s mentioned to him, “what girly girl would keep saying yes to playing the game Settlers of Catan with you if she wasn’t interested?” Once Matt heard this, he began to think that he might actually have a chance to be with her.

And when he finally asked her out, Lexi joyfully accepted his request to go ice-skating in D.C. She also later accepted his request of marriage…joyfully.

Romantic Spring Wedding at United States Naval Academy

This Bride claims she’s not a crafty person but I beg to differ. Not only was her wedding filled with fantastically done DIY projects but she also sewed beautiful lace trim to her mother’s tulle veil; that my friends is dedication and skill. This fab style extended to her bridesmaids – all decked out thanks to Weddington Way – and the combination of chosen colors makes me downright giddy. Krista A. Jones captured every shade and these pics are what I like to a call a great midday pick-me-up.

From the Bride… We love the look on people’s faces when they ask us where we’re from and we answer separately, ‘New York City’ and ‘a really small town in South Carolina.’ Meeting each other and falling in love must have been destiny because so many things had to fall into place just right for it to happen. Luckily, my best friend/Maid of Honor knew what she was doing when she introduced us. Her (then) boyfriend attended the Naval Academy and David accompanied him to South Carolina for the USC vs. Navy football game in September 2012. They stayed at our apartment for the weekend and David and I spent hours talking in the kitchen. A year later our friends convinced us to catch up via Sykpe and the next thing I knew, I was buying a plane ticket to visit him in Annapolis.

We wanted the wedding to be reflective of both of our families and cultures – which can be difficult when two cultures and families are so different (I’m Southern and David is a Polish New Yorker). The food really helped pull the cultures together and we even did a celebratory shot of Spiritus (Polish vodka) as a nod to David’s family members who traveled from Poland to attend the wedding.

I was a budget-conscious bride, so I decided to make anything that we needed for the wedding that wouldn’t be suitable as décor in our home. I’m not a very crafty person, but I can get creative when I need to! My favorite DIY project was the ‘Need a Ride?’ taxi signs and business cards that provided guests with information about Uber and local transportation options.

Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to wear my mother’s cathedral length veil on my wedding day. After purchasing my lace and tulle wedding gown, I realized that my mom’s tulle veil was beautiful but definitely needed lace. After finally finding the perfect lace trim, we spent a weekend with the veil laid out in the kitchen floor hand sewing the lace around the edge. It was hard work but totally worth it!

Another special touch was our cake topper. David loves Batman and after seeing a Batman and bride cake topper on Pinterest, I knew we had to have it. One of my best friends from college took up clay molding as a hobby while recovering from cancer treatments and volunteered to make it for us. It was a perfect touch on our cake!

Choosing the Naval Academy was an easy choice for us and dictated which date we chose for the wedding. With only seven months to plan, finding a reception venue was a bit trickier. Luckily, we stumbled upon the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and fell in love. It had the romantic feel we wanted and was the perfect combination of an indoor and outdoor space. Our wedding date was the only date available for the spring and summer, so we knew it was meant to be!

Intimate Spring Wedding at Strong Mansion

I melt for weddings like this one. Why? Because this couples’ love truly seeps through the screen by way of Sarah Bradshaw‘s images. Their Strong Mansion wedding was a perfect reflection of their relationshop and their families love for them (they even whipped up those gorgeous blooms), and you can see every gorgeous detail unfold here.

From Sarah Bradshaw Photography…”I know you don’t have summer plans,” Will (or “Wigi”) said to Jason. “Come work at Calleva with me. It just may be the best Summer of your life.” Jason and Wigi were in the Peace Corps together, and had formed a fast friendship. Wigi and Molly were old friends from home. Molly ALSO worked at Calleva Outdoor Adventures over the Summers. But I’m not sure any of them could foresee the perfect love story that grew out of that quiet little invitation to “come spend the Summer that teaches people to love outdoors. But Jason and Molly… they fell in love quickly. They’re both the kind of people who give and give and love and serve and give some more— Jason is a teacher, Molly is a social worker, and both dedicate their lives to helping kids. They bonded over International travel and humanitarian relief, but soon went from friends to best friends, and then fell in love. Years of dating long-distance, then moving to the same city to be near each other, and then transplanting to a new city together, created a sweet depth to their love. Soulmates, best friends, lovers, and each others’ solid ground— their wedding was a perfect picture of all of that. They married at Strong Mansion on Sugarloaf Mountain, the same mountain where they met and first fell in love. They shared a private first look, during which they wrote and spoke their own vows to each other, then publicly committed to each other before friends and family, and danced the night away. (flowers were done by family)

From Elizabeth FogartyRick and Marina’s wedding at Stone Manor Club was simply perfect. It had the perfect combination of romantic and traditional elements.

Marina got ready with her bridesmaids in their beautiful robes, which Marina actually made! All her details, from her jewelry to her shoes came together beautifully for that timeless bridal look. She picked gold nude shoes to compliment the pink palette of her wedding day. Her bridesmaids wore different shades of pink and coral, which was the perfect twist to the traditional same colored dresses. Both her flowers girls wore pink flower crowns, which was so cute!

Rick was all smiles all day, specially when he saw his bride. It’s so great to see a couple so in love. After their wedding, they went to Paris for their honeymoon.

Organic + Elegant Spring Wedding Inspiration

As we enjoy these last few days of spring and get ready to dive into the vibrancy of summer, I’m personally soaking up as much pastel prettiness as I can. Case in point? This darling shoot from Stacy Bauer and Lauren Niles Events. For those of you newly engaged planning on a spring 2016 wedding, you’ll want to get your pinning fingers ready for this bit of spring gorgeousness!

From Lauren NilesInspired by the gorgeous architecture of University Baptist Church, I chose soft pastels and lush texture to provide contrast to the soaring archways and creamy facade of the building. Since the style of the church reminded me of the beautiful churches I’ve visited in Rome, we styled with European gardens in mind, but were decidedly modern in our approach by mixing crystal pedestals and cymbidium orchids into an otherwise organic tablescape. A mix of white and ivory pillars in mass, lemon leaf garlands, vintage china, upholstered high back chairs and beautiful calligraphy completed this dreamy and incredibly romantic styled shoot.

Romantic Backyard Southern Maryland Wedding

If rain is supposed to be good luck on your Big Day, then what about flooding?! This Bride and Groom – who got married at the Bride’s parents’ waterfront home the day of a massive flash flood – think so! Thanks to quick thinking by Hitched By Heather, this Birds Of A Feather-captured wedding went off without a hitch, and was completed with late night sliders, dancing under the stars, and surprise fireworks!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/113740840 600 338]

From Hitched By HeatherJess and Ray were wed at the Bride’s childhood home. It was a magical day where there were laughs, tears and dancing under the stars, literally. The Bride wore a stunning Vera Wang gown and a smile for days. The Groom picked out a custom made suit that fit him like a glove. Rewind to exactly one year before their Big Day to when I first met with the blushing Bride and those were the very few details that were on her must list.

Through the entire planning process, Jess knew she wanted a light and airy wedding with pops of color and fun. That was accomplished by bright white linens, light gray stripes, pinks petals and natural elements like green grass, blue water and twinkling stars. The real design elements came when arranging the backyard to have a separate ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and dancing section. Four unique areas with room for 200 people. I was up for the challenge.

When getting married at an outside space, the weather can never be trusted. The night before, the entire east coast flooded, including the picture perfect wedding location. After a few hours of moving around, the ceremony location was relocated from a water view, to a garden view. Luckily, the Bride’s grandparents lived right next door and have a beautiful garden that played part as a stunning backdrop.

Cocktail hour was conveniently located under the parents’ wraparound porch and was paired with acoustic tunes and a boat full of beer. Dinner took place under the large pole tent where the Bride and Groom’s favorite foods were served in stations inviting guests to mingle and enjoy the tranquil scenery. For toasts and dancing, guests were ushered to the area beside the tent where the dance floor was located with beautiful lights overhead. The wraparound couch made it possible for guests with aching feet to sit and watch, and still partake in the fun.

The evening was nothing short of magical as it ended with a surprise firework show from the Bride’s uncle. The extremely talented duo, Birds of a Feather, captured Jess and Ray’s day to perfection. Their natural light photography skills were the type of artistry needed to give the photos the same feeling that was had on the wedding day. The love between these two were apparent through their handwritten vows, pure happiness and endless laughs. It was a true honor to help bring this wedding day dream to reality!

From The Bride…We had always distantly known the other from high school on, however it wasn’t until my 2008 fall break at the annual Thanksgiving Eve party that Raymond offered to buy me a drink. He didn’t know it but I saw him scrambling through his pockets for cash he didn’t have on him and soon he was asking one of his friends to borrow a few dollars in order to keep to his promise, and the rest was history. A year later, we couldn’t deny that we were falling in love and we spent the better part of the next 5 years apart as I completed my schooling. We knew we were going to make it official; it was just a matter of when.

Raymond and I got married at my parent’s breathtaking waterfront home in beautiful Southern Maryland. The natural beauty of the landscape speaks for itself so we wanted to keep the décor light and clean — mostly whites with shades of light grey and pink in the dresses and flowers. I am what some might call “basic” and never need a pop of color. The green grass and blue skies took care of that piece! We held our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all within the backyard and while cohesive, they all felt like their own space. To start off the day, my girls and I got ready in a hotel suite overlooking the beautiful Patuxent River while Raymond and his boys got in a few games of basketball and relaxed with the same view of the Patuxent River at a friend’s home. After the ceremony, Ray told me he had broken his hand playing basketball, AFTER I had spent the past 20 minutes squeezing his hands with excitement. And while most couples go on honeymoons the next day, we spent the afternoon at the hospital getting his hand casted.

It was the only day of the entire year that the East Coast flooded — and I mean the whole backyard was covered in water that morning. Two hours before the ceremony, my wedding planner, Heather, scrambled to relocate the whole ceremony to a different spot in the yard that had magically dried out. I had no clue what I was walking into with all the last minute changes that had to be made. Heather enlisted the help of our family and friends to recreate the ceremony to be even prettier than I had imagined, without ever worrying me about any of the details. It wasn’t until the next morning that I saw the various pictures of the water taking over the yard and all things wedding, but our amazing photographers managed to capture all of the beauty without anyone ever knowing it had all been covered in water that morning.

From our hand written personalized vows to the cocktail and reception band… from the s’mores bar to the late night sliders… from the dance floor under the stars to the end of night fireworks… our goal was to create a personal feel. We wanted anything but traditional and with the help of our amazing wedding planner, family, friends, and vendors who helped our vision come to life, we had the wedding of our dreams.

My life has vastly changed in the past few years, and while I could’ve chosen to focus on the imperfections, I instead chose to believe in our love and have never been more sure of anything in this world.

Airy Garden Wedding at Aspen Wye River

Confession? Garden weddings are my ultimate obsession. I’m a sucker for pretty pastel hues accented with rustic details and this next elegant affair from L Hewitt Photography hits the spot. From pretty paper goods a la Gus & Ruby, to the bridesmaids’ beautiful Jenny Yoo gowns, it’s all waiting for you in the gallery

From L Hewitt Photography… Christine and Adam’s wedding wedding was held at the Aspen Institute at Wye River. Its grounds lie among sprawling countryside and have the feel of an old handsome plantation or estate, with its tree-lined paths, secret walled gardens, hedge corridors.

I can’t think of anywhere more romantic to wed than Christine and Adam’s ceremony site, nestled within the grove of weeping willows.

The couple worked with the talented ladies of Lemon and Lime Event Design to create an ambiance that was airy and natural for their wedding. The decor featured soft blushes and ivory florals and linens, rough wood for the canopy, twine wrapped bottles, lanterns and candles — all anchored by the glamour of gold painted bottles and chargers.

Many of the table decorations were made for functionality as well as pretty tablescapes. The goal was to reuse many of the things they made for their wedding in their own home. Adam constructed many of the boxes on the tables himself.

In the garden, party lights swayed in the breeze, and guests mingled among statuary and stately trees. Wreathed in clouds, the moon soared overhead as the couple made their way into the tent to greet their friends and family for the first time together as husband and wife.

Bay Country Bakery crafted small desserts for the guests, including doughnuts, which was new for me, and a delightful treat!

Black Tie Baltimore Library Wedding

If you’ve seen “Sex and the City,” you have an idea of how romantic a public library wedding can be. With its stately architecture and Art Deco vibe, the Enoch Pratt Free Library’s Central Branch was a dream backdrop for this stunning couple to exchanges their grandparents’ wedding rings and celebrate becoming husband and wife. Enjoy all the thoughtful touches (including the book cart escort card display!), courtesy of Audra Wrisley, in the gallery.

From Audra WrisleyMelissa and Jack’s elegant Pratt Library wedding was one held on one of the prettiest October days of the season. Their elegant color scheme of classic black and ivory with green accents was chic and perfect for their city wedding in the bride’s hometown of Baltimore. Full of beautiful Jewish traditions, the wedding ceremony was intimately designed under a beautiful floral huppah. The evening ensued with hors d’oeuvres on the library’s balcony, intertwined with the library’s Maurice Sendak exhibit, and later lots of dancing, toasting, and celebrating under the dreamy ceilings of the Pratt Library.

From the Bride… We wanted to have a wedding that was meaningful to us and a blast for our guests, so the Enoch Pratt Free Library’s Central Branch in downtown Baltimore was a perfect location. I love all things literature and Jack wanted to create a special event — a one-stop-shop where we could get married and throw a great party. A functioning library during the week, it makes for a stunning event space, with marble columns, painted frescoes, and a three-story atrium. We held the traditional Ketubah signing in front of a small group of close family and friends in the stately Edgar Allan Poe room before the main ceremony in the atrium. A rabbi I’ve known since childhood married us using our grandparents’ wedding rings, and later we heard special blessings from some of our favorite family members. We love the outdoors, so we kept all of our details in a green, white, and gray palette. There was also a subtle nod to the library’s romantic Art Deco feel in many of our small details, such as the picture frames, invitations, my dress, place cards, and accessories. During the cocktail hour, guests looked out over the main hall from decorative iron windows, and during the reception, they received drinks from the book check-out desk.

One of my favorite memories was when we were taking pictures at the Washington Monument before the ceremony. Jack was waiting for me in a small courtyard, and although we’d decided to have a first look, we hadn’t thought much about it at all. We’d spent so many months agonizing over planning, but that simple moment was an exciting start to a truly beautiful day. Jack loved when we spontaneously got into a second-floor window and got a big cheer from our friends (and some shrieks from our parents). Sharing our celebration with the special people in our lives was extraordinary, and it’s so fun to remember that joy through Audra’s beautiful pictures.

From the Pop the Cork DesignsThis elegant and romantic masquerade ball wedding inspiration came from a constant dream of mine! We also incorporated a bridal getting ready portion – with this piece of the shoot, our goal was to inspire brides to capture the anticipation, the excitement, and the beauty of those moments before she walks down the aisle to marry the love of her life. There’s something so special and once-in-a-lifetime about those moments before the day begins.

Baltimore George Peabody Library Wedding

Tradition dictates that a bride and groom should marry in the bride’s hometown, and though things have changed (hello, destination weddings!), if you’re lucky enough to come from a beautiful city like this gorgeous Bride, why mess with tradition? Maria Linz Photography captured all the charm that earned Baltimore its nickname—Charm City—and this wedding was full of it! From the Bride’s flawless hair and makeup courtesy of Amie Decker Beauty to the breathtaking setting of the George Peabody library, you’ll want to pin all the pretty.

From the beautiful Bride… Although Mike and I grew up only 20 miles apart, we didn’t meet until we were both students at the University of Maryland. We met in the fall of 2005, and even though we were instantly attracted to one another, didn’t start dating until 2009 (some things take time!). Five years later on a gorgeous October day in Baltimore, we said, “I do!”

I was born and raised in Baltimore, and Mike moved to Baltimore as a baby, so it was important to us that we be married in Charm City. From day one, I knew our wedding reception had to be at the George Peabody Library, and luckily, Mike agreed! I studied ballet at the Peabody Preparatory, and I earned my Master’s degree in reading education from John’s Hopkins University, which owns the Peabody, so the library was important to me on multiple levels. We were married at Corpus Christi Church, an insanely gorgeous gorgeous church that happens to be one of Baltimore’s oldest. We had stumbled upon Corpus Christi a few years ago during a free organ concert at an arts festival, and instantly fell in love with the beauty and intimacy of the small-yet-grand church. It felt like fate when we learned the church was available for our wedding.

On the day of the wedding, we both got ready at our respective family homes, surrounded by friends and family. My matron of honor was my cousin (who also happens to be a best friend, sorority sister, and former roommate), and my four bridesmaids were women who are dear to me for innumerable reasons (best friends, travel buddies, sorority sisters, roommates – these gals wear many hats!). The ladies wore floor-length champagne-colored chiffon dresses, accented by jewelry I gifted them (gold monogram bracelets and gold-and-champagne drop earrings). My junior bridesmaids were my two youngest cousins. Fun fact: my matron-of-honor and I were the flower girls in their parents’ wedding! The little girls wore white dresses with blush accents and bracelets gifted by me (pearls with their initials). I wore Watters’ Ellery gown in ivory with an extended train and a cathedral-length lace-embellished veil. My something old was the diamond in my engagement ring, which used to belong to my grandmother; my something new was the wedding gown and veil; something borrowed were a pearl bracelet and drop earrings from my mother; and blue was the bottom of my shoes.

Mike and his groomsmen gathered at his parents’ home, where they cheered on the Terps football team before putting on their tuxes. Mike’s brother was his best man, and his groomsmen included his three best friends from childhood, and my younger brother. The guys wore black tuxes, and showed their state pride with grayscale suspenders sporting the Maryland state flag pattern.

In the early afternoon, the men piled into their limo and headed into the city for pictures in Mount Vernon place, a garden-filled area outside the George Peabody Library. Shortly after, the bridesmaids and I joined the men downtown for first-look photos and the bulk of the bridal party pictures. Originally, neither of us was thrilled about the idea of doing pictures in advance of the wedding, but the sun sets early in October, and we knew it would be dark by the time our 6pm ceremony was over.

Since we were both raised in the Roman Catholic faith, it was important to us that we celebrate our marriage in a full traditional Nuptial Mass. Our 130 guests filled the church with an abundance of love and support. After the ceremony, we made our way over to the library.

We included many special touches in our wedding reception, including displaying wedding photographs of three generations of family members. We also incorporated card catalog drawers into the floral arrangements, by using them to display escort cards for the guests. In lieu of favors, we decided to make donations to five charities close our hearts. We wanted to incorporate guests in this process, so we had a table set up with five containers and a framed description of each charity and it’s importance to us (a breast cancer foundation in honor of our friends and family, a Lyme disease research foundation in honor of my father, a Parkinson’s Disease foundation in memory of my grandfather, a local reading organization for my passion for literacy, a local soup kitchen that is dear to us). Each guest was given five tokens to deposit in the jars of their choice, and then we made contributions to the charities in proportion with the amount of tokens allotted to each one.

The cocktail hour space (an exhibit hall) and main library were decorated in pink and champagne, with gold accents. The dinner tables featured lanterns with halos of flowers and tall, lush rounds of baby’s breath. As the library is so magnificent to begin with, we were very careful to select florals and decorations that would enhance the library’s beauty without distracting from it.

When I reflect back on our wedding, I am so grateful for the love and joy that surrounded us, and for the closeness Mike and I experienced on that day. The week before the wedding, a friend offered us this advice: “Once you enter the reception, don’t leave each other’s side. Everyone will be so excited to talk to you, that once you separate, it will be nearly impossible to work your way back together.” We took this to heart, and are so glad that we did – it was a bonding experience like no other!

Spring Mansion Wedding at Cylburn Arboretum

Pink peonies are a surefire way to my wedding loving heart and this next springtime affair is overflowing with plenty. Returning to the place where their love story began, these college cuties wed surrounded magnolia trees and merriment. It’s a day filled with beauty and bliss that’ll have you weak in the knees. See the entire as told through the lens of Love By Serena right over here!

From Love By Serena… This spring, I had the pleasure of documenting Amy and Christian’s love for one another. The two of them met while studying at John’s Hopkins University in Baltimore, so it was fitting for them to come back to their place of origin for the big day. They said their vows to one another at the lovely Cylburn Arboretum and we spent a beautiful spring day amongst the blossoming Magnolia trees. It truly couldn’t have been more perfect and a huge thanks goes out to the talented Elle Ellinghaus Designs for making everything run so smoothly!

Summertime Waterfront Wedding in Maryland

Exchanging vows on the shore of the Potomac river is romantic in and of itself, but add in an aisle lined with heirloom rugs and you’ve got yourself one dreamy affair. This laid-back outdoor soiree is picturesque in every sense of the word. From the barefoot Bride grooving to MyDeejay tunes, to the natural backdrop, Vicki Grafton Photography snapped it all in the gallery!

From Vicki Grafton PhotographyEllery and Michael said their vows in early September on the shore of the Potomac river in St. Mary’s Maryland. Their aisle was lined with rugs collected by the groom and a beautiful tree provided shade and the perfect backdrop for their ceremony. Overall, Ellery wanted a laid-back outdoor wedding where she could spend the whole day barefoot in the grass and celebrate with her family, friends and their pup.

From The Bride… Michael and I went to the same high school but did not meet until we were both out of college. He proposed on a hike on the top of a mountain in Vermont (I won’t talk about how he somehow got lost on the trek). We wanted our wedding to be a fun and beautiful party for our family and friends to help us celebrate the important event. We are both from Maryland, right outside D.C.. We thought finding a venue that was naturally picturesque, while still in Maryland, would be perfect.

We wanted it to be simple, casual and fun to match our personalities. I went barefoot the whole evening! We are both quite competitive, so we played “hand over hand” on a bat to determine who would say our vows first. Michael’s family business, C.G. Coe & Son, provided the gorgeous hand-made rugs to use as a stage for our ceremony and the Potomac River gave us an attractive natural backdrop. We did most of the decorations ourselves, and Butterkup Flowers provided the gorgeous flowers and helped put it all together. It was everything we wanted it to be!

Elegant Oxon Hill Maryland Garden Wedding

You don’t have to be at an English manor to have a gorgeous and elegant garden wedding. With a team that includes talents like Karson Butler Events, Amie Decker Beauty, and MyDeejay, this couple was able to achieve that English garden wedding feel at a beautiful Maryland manor. Formal, but not stuffy, this pastel-hued elegant affair is what garden party dreams are made —the proof is in the gallery.

From the beautiful Bride… Taylor and I met our first year at Duke University and were friends for a year before we started dating in the fall of our sophomore year. We bonded over our mutual love of Duke basketball and Durham. I actually spend a large chunk of my childhood in Durham, but Taylor and I didn’t meet until college.

Our first date was absolutely fabulous. Taylor planned the entire evening. It was parents weekend at Duke so he knew that all of the good restaurants in Durham would be booked. He chose a small, nice Creole restaurant in the next town over. We had a lovely meal, then went to see a funny movie on campus. After the movie was over, we went to the Sarah P. Duke gardens to enjoy the beautiful November evening outside.

He also planned an elaborate evening to propose, but it ultimately fell through. On our 5 year anniversary, he booked a dinner reservation at Acadiana, a nice Creole restaurant in downtown DC—in keeping with the spirit of our first date— and then he made reservations at the Columbia room, a speakeasy in DC that I had been dying to go to. He had even picked out the exact spot on the walk between the restaurant and the bar—a small, quaint park. Alas, the ring that he had selected which was supposed to be delivered from the jewelry store in New York City, but the jeweler was flooded by hurricane Sandy. Since he didn’t have the ring, he didn’t propose that evening. Instead, he proposed two weeks later, once the ring had arrived, after an impromptu dinner at one of our favorite restaurants downtown: Zaytinya. We had a lovely dinner and were about to go next door to Proof for a drink before heading to a small party at a friends place nearby. We sat down for a few minutes outside the Portrait Gallery and he asked. We dated 5 whole years before we got engaged!

Taylor and I loved the idea of a backyard gathering but elevated. We wanted to keep it elegant but not too fancy. We picked our favorite colors, (mine is green, his is blue) and then we added the blush pink to make the evening feel light. We were going for was “rustic chic.” We wanted to take the casual and chic elements of a garden party, with elements inspired by the French countryside.

We knew wanted an outdoor wedding, and ironically, we chose the venue mostly because we weren’t required to have a tent and because if it rained, we could move everything inside. Oxon Hill Manor had beautiful gardens and overall, a wonderful brick patio with an incredible view of the Potomac. We loved the iron gate leading to the gardens too.

My favorite detail was the flowers which my mom helped me pick. I love dahlias and roses so we went with those as our two primary flowers. The lambs ear was a great way to add softness and get a bit of blue in the arrangements. All of them turned out beautiful and had a great mix of light pink and green. I also loved the toile napkins; they really brought the look together. The mix of stationery was another one of my favorite parts. The chargers and table runners were a way to make the wedding feel like a garden party. One other detail that I was very happy with was the color of the ceremony chairs. We went with a brown wood to keep it rustic.

The hanging floral arrangements were a way to make the unwanted tent less sterile. They turned out to be one of my favorite elements of the reception space! They made the space feel more intimate.

Taylor and I wanted something sweet—we love desserts— and something that meant something to us. The take-away cookies came from a bakery down the street that we both love. We wanted to include something from a local business.

My favorite moment was the first look. We decided to do the photos ahead of the ceremony so that we could spend the rest of the evening with our guests. I hadn’t imagined the first look being as overwhelmingly emotional as it was. Taylor’s eyes were closed as I walked to meet him in the garden.

We loved working with Karson Butler as our planners for the wedding and they made the process so painless for us. Taylor and I keep saying that having planners that understand your taste and vision is the best money to spend on a wedding. In the end, it was the best party of our lives and that was exactly what we were hoping for!

Elegant Ballroom Wedding

Having dreamt of her wedding since childhood, this beautiful Bride knew exactly what she wanted her Big Day to entail. The vision? A romantic-glam fall fête at the Belvedere & Co. Events overflowing with elegant details. Dyanna Joy Photography was on hand to capture every moment of merriment and you can see it all unfold, here!

From the beautiful Bride… I had dreamt about my wedding day since I was a little girl, even more so than most little girls, because my mother was in the wedding industry and I was surrounded by bridal gowns every day! But I must say, our actual wedding turned out to be more amazing than my wildest dreams.

We knew that we wanted a fall wedding, so we settled on Thanksgiving weekend because I have cousins in the US Naval Academy, and they were an integral part of our wedding. It was a chilly weekend in Baltimore, but we hardly noticed. The sun was shining and that’s all that mattered! My Allure dress was the centerpiece and inspiration for the rest of our wedding planning. I loved the Swarovski crystals and beading, and the soft flow of the English Net skirt. My vision was set on a romantic-glam theme with an elegant vibe.

We chose to have our wedding ceremony at The Baltimore Basilica. My family is Roman Catholic, and the Basilica is the most iconic church in Baltimore, as well as the first cathedral in America! We felt blessed to be able to have our ceremony in such a sacred and beautiful church. My grandfather gave me away, and sharing that moment with him was the most special experience of my life.

I fell in love with the ballroom at The Belvedere as soon as I laid eyes on it. It was glamourous, yet not over-the-top. I wanted a ballroom with spectacular chandeliers, and the chandeliers in the Charles Ballroom’s could not be beat! We loved the combination of plum and gold, and the ballroom complemented those colors perfectly. With the 1930’s vibe of the iconic landmark, I really wanted the reception to feel elegant, timeless, and classy. I incorporated lots of softly-lit candles, gold sparkling placecards, and neutral uplighting. The flowers were a mix of purples, greens, and whites; matching the bridesmaids bouquets. The gold candelabras were a must, and I fell in love with them as soon as I laid eyes on them! The head table was something that we truly loved; it was amazing to be surrounded by our family and bridal party and let them know how much they mean to us.

The most important thing to us about our reception was for the dance floor to be packed all night long– and it was! My family is Italian, and adding some Italian elements to our reception was very important to me. Dancing to The Tarantella was our favorite part of the reception!

From Dyanna Joy PhotographyIt was the day after Thanksgiving. Christine was flawless in her Allure princess style wedding gown, as if she was born to wear this dress. On this day, she was the center of the universe and everyone revolved around her, admiring her beauty, her grace, and smile.

White and purple flowers were delivered, champagne was poured, and Justin couldn’t take his eyes off his bride in white.

The sun had set and it was time for the ceremony. Christine walked down the lengthy, awe-inspiring aisle, holding on to the arms of her grandfather. And when she finally made it to the front, Justin was there to take her hand, as he will be for the rest of their lives, whether it’s to ask her to dance or to help her out of a car. Her hands will always be safe in his.

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed drinks, dinner, and dancing at the Belvedere Hotel.

Golden Chesapeake Bay Beach Club Wedding

One look at this cozy Chesapeake Bay Beach Club and it’s stop-you-in-your-tracks stunning. I mean, just look at this cake! Proving that winter weddings are some of our favorites, this piece of pretty is filled with all things sweet and a love with sharing. Stacy Bauer captured every minute of their romantic affair and it’s waiting for you here!

From the beautiful Bride… In April 2014, Evan proposed. I was so excited and naturally went into planning mode immediately. I always thought that I would get married on a warm sunny day in the Spring or Summer. I imagined the beautiful greenery, bright sunny skies and dancing under the moonlight. Since I was unable to to plan a wedding for that Summer in a matter of months, I realized that I also didn’t want to wait a year or more to get married the following Summer either.

Before I knew it, I was considering a winter wedding, which was that sweet spot amount of time that I wanted to spend planning, about 9 months. The idea of a winter wonderland wedding started to appeal to me and I soon started looking up beautiful icy color motifs and bright white flowers. I dreamed of snow. I wanted to stay away from anything Holiday related, so was sure to avoid anything red, green or tartan.

Checking the weather leading up to the wedding was a nerve wracking experience. It went from unseasonably warm, to bitter cold and finally, 100% chance of cold rain, the entire day. My sweet friends and family repeated the old adage of “rain is good luck on your wedding day” to me as I moved onto acceptance that it would be a cold rainy mess.

The morning of the wedding it was indeed very cold and very wet, but I was more excited to marry my best friend than to worry about the weather forecast.

The wedding was located on the Chesapeake Bay with huge windows overlooking a beautiful misty view of the Bay Bridge. Guests scurried in holding gifts and umbrellas for shelter. The ceremony was held in front of a huge fireplace with beautiful gold floating and pillared candles lit and a large white wreath on the mantle. The reception had a long banquet style table where our closest family members and friends sat with 8 round tables surrounding it. We had alternating gold sequin runners that reflected the warm candlelight from all around. The tables were high-low, some with simple green and white floral arrangements with gold bird confetti scattered on the stark white table cloth; others with dramatic sweeping tree branches with tea light candles hanging from them. The reception was filled with good music, food, laughter and warmth.

The warm feeling I had always dreamed of had come true and I am convinced that the rain made it feel all the more cozy and inviting. Being surrounded in a beautiful candlelit venue, with all of our family and friends made us feel all the more content and happy to be under one roof. In the end, I never had my warm sunny Spring wedding I always envisioned; we had something better.
