From Tana Photography…

This sweet DIY wedding was held at a small winery in Southern Idaho. The bride, Katarzyna (Katie) is a printmaker/artist and the groom, Dave, is a front man for a local rock band. The bride brought all of the elements together herself for this intimate event for 75 guests. She spent a year preparing the décor and hand crafting many of the items herself. They are a perfectly fitted couple, each one so supportive of the other’s form of art. Katarzyna made her wedding invitations out of her own hand colored etching, as the backdrop, which guests could keep and frame. Including the vintage sheet music she used to line the envelopes, the cost was less than $60 for 60 invitations.

She had been collecting materials for her décor throughout the year for the handmade paper flowers on the tables, the fabric hair flowers for the bridesmaids, fabric flowers on her shoes, flower rings, corsages, boutonnières and spent under $50. Dave’s boutonnieres is part guitar string. Katarzyna sells handmade fabric flower adornments on Etsy at Twigs For Pearls.

From the beautiful bride…I’ve been going out to the ranch in Mackay, Idaho since I was a little girl spending my summers enjoying outdoor activities and horseback riding with the family. A few years ago our family friends got married at our ranch in the backyard and that was the moment I knew I wanted to have the wedding out west. Rich and I are always looking for new things to do together that neither of us have done before and we were so excited to have everyone else experience that by coming out west. We felt so blessed to have so many of our family and friends make it out to Idaho for the weekend. We had so much fun showing everyone around so they could see why we love coming out every summer. Before the wedding we had a bunch of activities set up for everyone visiting with skeet shooting, white water rafting, hiking, fishing, horseback riding etc. The wedding day was everything I had hoped for and more. It was the best day of my life and Richie’s as well.

There were a lot of details that went into the wedding and I loved everything that Judith and the florists helped to bring together. I wanted to have a classy wedding but have a relaxed environment because of the location. I found my dress in Pittsburgh at Tomasina. I went out to find my dress in LA and NYC with no luck. Finally I went to my hometown, Pittsburgh, and it was the first shop, first dress and I knew it was the one. My veil was also handmade there as well. My maid of honor, Meredith, and I got our custom boots made by Rocket Buster which is a boot company based out of Texas. For the bouquets, we had handkerchiefs pinned to the bottom that were from my grandmother, Mimi, who passed away two summers ago. We were all really close to her and I wanted to make sure that she was present on my wedding day.  I had her antique bee pin and handkerchief with me the whole time to remind me. Judith McQueen was our wedding planner and caterer and the two florists we used were Tara Bella out of Hailey and Julie Buckwalter from Mackay. All of the little things that I mentioned they all worked to incorporate into my day. From the delicious food to having a gardenia in my bouquet to having candles on the pond, it was a dream come true. We had majority of our friends and family staying at the Wild Horse Creek Ranch where we also had the Out of Towners Dinner the night before the wedding.

Idaho Wedding Filled with Style, II

I fell hard for this wedding the minute I laid eyes on it…something about the chic, totally unexpected style tucked into a warm and rustic environment. It’s enough to send any girl clear over the edge. Photographed by Stephanie Fay, this wedding is one for the books!

From Stephanie…

This wedding was also very special because it was under a tight budget. They wanted to do everything simple but still very elegant. They hired almost all friends to be vendors at the wedding and everyone seemed to do an awesome job!  Cortney and Scott had a simple bride and groom cake with adorable little birds and the cake was accompanied by various different kinds of pies. The centerpieces were birdcages and various vases containing the orange colored flowers that appeared throughout the entire wedding. The table cloths were a perfect touch to the rustic country feel.

Idaho Wedding Filled with Style

The very coolest thing about this Idaho wedding…is the altar. I have never in my life seen anything quite as unique, quite as showstoppingly gorgeous. Photographed by the forever talented Stephanie Fay, the altar that this couple built is something that I KNOW you guys will be talking about for a long, long time. Plus, the wedding itself is a lesson in all things gorgeous so it was a no-brainer to share it today!

First up, the back story on that ridiculous ceremony space…

The wedding was held at Cortney’s parents house in Fruitland Idaho and was spectacular. Every little detail was carefully thought through. She wanted the wedding to be a rustic vintage theme. Her younger brother Caleb built the entire wood ceremony site. Cortney wanted the ceremony to feel as though the guests were sitting in a rustic church. The windows were evenly placed next to the chairs lining the outline of the ceremony. It felt as though the structure of the building was around you. Cortney had a yellow dresser (alter piece) symbolizing the start of their life together.

I mean…there are no words!! And that’s rare for me, as I can usually blab on and on about anything. I guess this is one of the first times on SMP that I’ve kind of been speechless! More to come in just a bit!

Update…I know that a lot of you wanted me to mention Sara and KC’s wedding as the above wedding wasn’t the first outdoor, wooden chapel that the wedding industry has seen. Sara and KC’s affair was GORGEOUS and I definitely don’t want to take away from that. But I do want to point out that throwing a wedding is often times all about re-inventing ideas and inspirations that are already out there.

Personally, I really hadn’t seen anything like this as I somehow missed Sara and KC’s affair. But, props to such an incredible couple (both couple’s really) for infusing such beauty into their day!
